# CIP & ONIX: The Future of Bibliographic Control?

Karl Debus-López presents background information on the Cataloging in Publication Program as it enters its fortieth year. He reviews new developments that position the program to meet an objective of the "On the Record" report to provide enhanced access to information through greater use of publisher supplied data and subject terminology. He also discusses new developments in the Electronic Cataloging in Publication Cataloging Partnership Program that will foster greater collaboration between the Library of Congress and partner libraries with expertise in specialized subject areas. David Williamson demonstrates the Library of Congress' new ONIX/MARC converter that allows automatic creation of descriptive metadata from ONIX records supplied directly from the publisher. Caroline Saccucci discusses the pros and cons of using the ONIX/MARC converter as part of a cataloger's daily work.
