# WTEN 11pm Newscast (January 20, 2001; Partial)

From January 20, 2001, a weekend news show aired on WTEN in Albany, the area's ABC affiliate. This was the day George W. Bush was inaugurated as president, and stories about the event air during the A block. Commercials airing during this and the preceding Ice Skating Championship can be seen here: https://youtu.be/-si0g-Say5E Walt McClure anchors the news filling in for Steve Ammerman, with Melissa Sander (the grape-stomping lady) doing a weather forecast shortly before the tape ends. Also includes a report on Bush's inauguration from Lisa Sylvester (then with ABC News, now at WPXI). Sports anchor John Spadafora appears on the talent bump, but his segment wasn't included. All of these people are no longer at WTEN; McClure and Sander both left in 2005 during the LaSpina saga, with McClure to WXXA, Sander to WPSG's ill-fated "WakeUPNews." Steve Ammerman bounced around from weekends, to mornings, to lead anchor position in 2007, followed by mornings again in 2011 before leaving in 2012. The graphics were done by VDO, and were based off similar graphics used at Fox O&O WJBK in Detroit. This was the original version of the package, having debuted 3 months earlier in 2000. Obviously I've spoken about it before, but WTEN kept the opens for a remarkable 11 years (ditching everything to go HD in 2011) while putting in in-house jobs on the L3's and backgrounds. For the time however, this was definitely a slick look for WTEN and really worked in their favor. Primetime News by…
