# Valerie Harper's Story (2013)

In March 2013, actress Valerie Harper revealed that she was suffering from leptomeningeal carcinomatosis, a rare, terminal brain cancer, and that she had just months to live. She decided to live the rest of her life to the fullest, chronicling her illness in this documentary -- which aired the same week that she began a stint on " Dancing with the Stars ." The title " Valerie's Story " intentionally refers to " Farrah's Story ," a horrifying 2009 chronicle of Farrah Fawcett's battle with cancer. Unlike Fawcett, Harper handled the situation with grace and optimism, which probably explains why she survived until 2019. And doubtlessly because this doc was less sensationalistic than Fawcett's, it received a fraction of the ratings and has largely been forgotten.
