IF ANYONE CAN HELP FIND THE FULL RECORDING PLEASE LET ME KNOW! A powerful statement made by the late Hawaiian activist and scholar Dr. Haunani-Kay Trask during a 1990 appearance on the public access television show Island Issues . During a segment, a caller stated, "This is America, you know. I mean...", to which Dr. Trask responded with the widely circulated statement: "Let me just say something to this caller. This is not America. This is Polynesia. Our country was stolen. That's one of your problems. You're ignorant, woefully ignorant. But you all need to learn about Hawaiian history and about where you are". This interaction has been shared widely online in recent years across platforms like TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube, often in short clips or "reels," bringing renewed attention to her message about Hawaiian sovereignty and history.
