# Collection MFDI - Bhor Holo, Dor Kolo (It is Dawn, Open the Door)

BHOR HOLO, DOR KOLO. The first in a series of commercial films made for Bengali audiences, Bhor Holo, Dor Kolo ("It is Dawn, Open the Door") introduces the "model couple" and the evil money lender who are the key figures in the "melodrama with a message series." The value of literacy training and shady loans and land deals are at the core of this episode. Cinema is a major entertainment medium in Bangladesh, and films are popular with all social classes. A certain basic format is popular and familiar: glamorous stars in the lead roles, melodramatic plots, music, and dancing. This movie came to filmcollectief through Media for Development International. MFDI is an American 501(c)3 non-profit agency which has been operational now for 15+ years. It relates closely to Media for Development Trust (MFD) a Zimbabwean registered charity (W.O. 21/89) set up in the late 1980s, and also to Media for Development International / Tanzania, a branch office established in 2004 in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. The three are sister agencies. MFDI / USA supports the others, and they work together in film, radio, and TV productions as well as distributing African social message videos. Note: the 16mm copy was a duplicate-copy and is slowly turning red. With color-manipulation we have made the best of it.
