De 1947 à 1950, l’Office National du Film du Canada produit une série de 4 films thérapeutiques intitulée Mental Mechanisms suite à l’initiative de psychiatres du Allan Memorial Institute (Département de psychiatrie de l’Université McGill & de l’Hôpital Royal-Victoria) souhaitant introduire l’image mouvante à leur expérimentations en thérapie de groupe.
