# Down to Earth (1984)

Decades after her death, a 1920s flapper (Carol Mansell) returns to play maid and nanny for a motherless 1980s family in an effort to earn her heavenly wings. This is the very first sitcom produced by TBS (back when it was named W TBS). It's also notable for being the second show in which Dick Sargent (" Bewitched ") replaced the original actor (this time, it's TV dad Stephen Johnson, who only appeared in the first season). The show co-stars David Kaufman, Kyle Richards, Randy Josselyn, Marla Rubinoff, Ronnie Schell, and Lester Fletcher. One of the most memorable aspects of the show was the overlong theme song that summarized the plot, co-written by the show's co-creator, Sam Harris, the then-recent winner of the first season of Star Search ( a 1980's precursor to American Idol). Back in the days of Valentino We know A maid named Ethel was so bright and alive (Wack-a-doo, wack-a-doo, wack-a-doo!) But she was struck down by a trolley! Golly! Said goodbye in Nineteen-twenty-and-five. (Too-d-aloo! Too-da-loo!) Ethel in heaven awaited patiently To earn her wings and be An angel fancy free. 60 years later, the opportunity To help a family Came (Boo-boo-boop-be-doo --23 Skidoo!) Back down to earth to teach the Prestons Lessons Richard, Lissy, Duane, and Jay Jay too! Now she must be a 1980s Lady Down to earth, it's so angelical! Down to earth, it's quite a spectacle!
