# The Delta Burke Show (1992-1993)

Following her abrupt dismissal from Designing Women, Delta Burke (briefly) dyed her hair blonde and headlined a short-lived sitcom on ABC. Burke starred as Delta Bishop, a housewife who left her husband (Kevin Scannell) and moved to Nashville to pursue her dreams of becoming a country singer. She found herself bunking with cousin Lavonne Overton (Gigi Rice) and her annoyed husband Buck (an unknown Bill Engvall), and got a job at a bar where Patsy Cline once performed. Also seen were Earl Holliman as Darden, the owner of the bar; Beth Grant as Thelma, Lavonne's beautician boss; Nancy Giles as Connie, Delta's coworker; and later, Joe Urla joined the cast as Delta's lecherous agent; and Elizabeth Wilson starred as Delta's mother. There were issues from the start, beginning with the fact that Burke was not comfortable singing. Additional pressures were put on her since she was at the front and center in every episode -- but she was surrounded by a great cast of costars who helped to elevate the material. There was also occasional appearances by country music stars, including Willie Nelson, John Schneider, and Tanya Tucker -- plus Reba McEntire provided the show's theme song, "Climb That Mountain." Unfortunately, the network never gave the show a chance to really blossom, and they destroyed continuity by airing episodes in random order (one week Delta was blonde, the next she was brunette!). To rectify the network's idiocy, I've reorganized these episodes in production order.
