# 2004 VHS • US Geography for Children 60 FPS

A children's educational video covering the United States West region, presented through animated segments, live-action host sequences with two child hosts named Miguel and Alicia, and a recurring food segment with Chef Jeff. The Pacific States covered are Hawaii, Alaska, Washington, Oregon, and California; the Mountain States section covers Idaho, Wyoming, Montana, Colorado, and Utah, with additional coverage of the Sierra Nevada, Cascades, and Coast Ranges. Natural features covered include Mount McKinley at over 20,000 feet, Yellowstone as the first national park with Old Faithful, Yosemite, giant sequoias and coastal redwoods reaching 360 feet, the Great Salt Lake, Death Valley as the driest and lowest and hottest location in the US, and Hawaii's Mount Waialeale as the wettest. The Grand Coulee Dam on the Columbia River represents hydroelectric power; the Oregon Trail brought 200,000 settlers westward; the Gold Rush of 1848 introduced the 49ers. A profile of California smokejumper Jesse Gonzalez explains the job: parachuting at 1,500 feet carrying 70 pounds of gear. Chef Jeff prepares regional foods from tuna and pineapple in Hawaii through salmon and king crab in Alaska, oranges and almonds in California, clams and apples in Washington and Oregon, and bison burgers and Idaho fries in the Mountain States.
