# 1997 VHS • The Living Edens: Manu - Peru's Hidden Rainforest 60 FPS

Manu National Park occupies a vast stretch of the upper Amazon in southeastern Peru, one of the most biodiverse regions on earth. This PBS and Reader's Digest World co-production, underwritten in part by Allegra and the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, follows the park through its wet and dry seasons. The species roster includes harpy eagles with seven-inch talon spans, howler monkeys, scarlet macaws, giant otters known locally as river wolves, hoatzins called stinkbirds for their fermented-leaf diet, and leafcutter ant colonies of two million cultivating underground fungus gardens. The documentary's main narrative arc follows a harpy eagle chick from hatching through its first months of flight. Giant otters, with fewer than 80 remaining in Manu at the time of filming, receive extended coverage. The tape ends with a PBS promotional segment and contact information: 1-800-828-4PBS and pbs.org.
