# 1991 VHS • Shalom Sesame: Aleph Bet Telethon - Discovering the Hebrew Letters 60 FPS

Shalom Sesame: Aleph-Bet Telethon is Show 9 in the eleven-part home video series co-produced by Children's Television Workshop and Israel Educational Television. The episode opens with all 22 letters of the Hebrew alphabet disappearing from Rechov Sumsum: street signs go blank, books lose their print, and newspapers contain no text. Jerry Stiller arrives on the street as himself to help Kippi Ben Kippod restore the missing letters by hosting a telethon. Stiller and Kippi work through the complete Aleph-Bet, soliciting letter pledges from special guest celebrities including Nell Carter, Tracey Gold, Anne Meara, Jeremy Miller, Itzhak Perlman, Joan Rivers, and Melissa Rosenberg. Additional segments feature Carroll Spinney as Oscar the Grouch calling in from a replica of the Sesame Street set, Ernie performing an Aleph-Bet story, and Cookie Monster delivering a rap about healthy food. The telethon format is a self-contained comic premise that drives all 22-letter learning content. A disclaimer on the original VHS notes that the on-screen telephone number is fictitious. The episode was produced by the American Friends of Rechov Sumsum with support from the Charles H. Revson Foundation. Running approximately 37 minutes.
