# 1995 VHS • Rockabilly Slap Bass 60 FPS

Rockabilly Slap Bass is an instructional upright bass video taught by Lee Rocker, co-founder of the Stray Cats, produced by Homespun Tapes. The tape opens with a performance of That's Alright Mama and an introduction to slap bass history, tracing the technique to Bill Black, Willie Dixon, and early rockabilly and blues players. Rocker then demonstrates the four core right-hand techniques in sequence: quarter note pull, eighth note pull-and-slap, the dotted shuffle feel, and triplets, with guidance on bass setup, string height, and action. The second half covers left-hand technique including chord theory, major triad arpeggios, chromatic approaches, and blue notes, followed by a demonstration of how to combine slap techniques over a slow blues progression in an original composition called Big Blue Train performed with his band Lee Rocker's Big Blue. The tape closes with a section on studio and live bass setup, covering microphone placement, pickup types, steel string selection, and the Jaggers Danish strings used by Rocker.
