# 1994 VHS • Redbook Tai Chi Workout 60 FPS

Redbook Tai Chi Workout is an instructional video hosted by instructor Doria with participants Jenna and Wendell, presenting the Yang style of Tai Chi, described as the most widely practiced style worldwide. The program is structured in three sections: centering exercises, five fundamental postures from the 13 basic Tai Chi forms, and a closing energy settling sequence. Doria opens by explaining the foundational concepts of Tai Chi, including the yin-yang principle, the Dan Tian (the energy center located two to four inches below the navel), and Qi (life energy). The first section introduces abdominal breathing with the tongue on the roof of the mouth, the horse stance with feet a foot and a fist apart and toes pointing forward, ankle and wrist warm-up rotations, and a series of joint-loosening exercises designed to prepare the body for the posture work. The five postures taught include ward-off, roll-back, press, push, and pull-down from the Yang form, demonstrated with weight shifting in the bow stance and explanations of energy line concepts. Doria consistently emphasizes the integration of attention and movement, the importance of directing energy through fingertips and pressing lines, and the meditative quality that distinguishes Tai Chi from conventional exercise. The closing segment, described as distributing and settling energy, involves slow weight shifts and arm pulls in both bow stances while focusing on drawing energy from the earth and returning it to the sky.…
