# The Sports Plus: After School Program

"In the summer of 1997, four community-based organizations teamed up to pilot the Sports PLUS After School Program(Positive Learning Using Sports) in the City of Lawrence, Massachusetts. This exciting literature-based youth development program illustrates the profound impact that community partnerships can have on children. The story of Sports Plus is a story about real teamwork. It's a story about being active thinkers and players. It's about sparking a love of reading and opening new worlds and possibilities. And it's a story about fostering strengths in order to build a sense of future."
