# Haunted Cry of a Long Gone Bird

Richard Wheeler at age 60 decided to kayak the historic migration route of the extinct great auk to see if the bird would be able to survive today if it hadn't been hunted to extinction. He finds much evidence of declining stock of cod and other commercial fishes. He looks at remote villages dependent upon fishing and knows humankind has not learned to stop pushing species to extinction.
