# WIKITONGUES- Ljóni speaking Icelandic

Icelandic is spoken by around 330,000 people, primarily in the Nordic island nation of Iceland, where it is the only official language. An offshoot of Old Norse, Icelandic has been a literary language since at least the 12th century CE, when the earliest known texts were written. An Indo-European language of the Germanic family, it shares close similarities with Faroese, Norwegian, English, and 45 other languages.

Good morning, today i'm going to speak icelandic and about icelandic. Icelandic is difficult and complicated and there's a lot in it that confuses icelanders and foreigners. Uhmm there are some difficults words like gills (in icelandic tálkn) that is very difficult to say. Gills, if you're not born in Iceland and raised. Oops. There is uhmm, there are words like inlet which decline (decline as in the verb for declension) a lot and are modified a lot. (0:32 to 0:43 he lists declensions and different sayings of the word fjord/inlet depending in wich context you're using the word) And then there are irregular words like mare and sheep, here is a mare, about a mare, from a mare, to a mare. Or something, who knows? Then there, there is the blessed extension manner in past tense. I came, i came, i would come. I won, i won, that i would win. I must, i had to, that i would become. (I'm sorry if none of this is making any sense, this is just how some icelandic words decline and are changed :/) Uhh what else is…
