# Wasp or Hornet - Nature's Natural Pesticides

A Quick Guide by http://nearbywild.org.uk

Hornets have been on the increase in recent years. They are bigger than common and German wasps but are generally less aggressive. Both genera are members of the subfamily Vespinae.

Both help to maintain a natural balance by catching caterpillars and other 'pest' insects which they feed to their larvae in the nest. To feed themselves, adult Vespinae can only suck liquid food such as nectar and also a liquid that their own larvae feed to them.

Factual errors present in the video: Hornets are, scientifically, a subset of wasp, not a separate taxonomic group.
