# 婦人新報 1908.01.25 No 129

Fujin Shimpō (婦人新報, “Woman's Herald”) was the main organ of the Japan Woman's Christian Temperance Union (日本キリスト教婦人矯風会, Nihon Kirisutokyō Fujin Kyōfūkai), launched in 1895 to replace the Tōkyō Fujin Kyōfū Zasshi (東京婦人矯風雑誌, 1888–1893). Publication was suspended in 1944 due to wartime paper shortages and resumed after Japan's surrender. The journal's social-reformist campaigns — especially against licensed prostitution, and later in support of women's suffrage — repeatedly brought it into conflict with the Japanese police and the threat of censorship.
