The Red Raven Library #21 \[1905-06-03\]. ("Captain Kidd In New Orleans; Or, The Pirate Scourge Of The Rigolets") The Red Raven Library was a dime novel published by The Winner Library Co. (an imprint of Street & Smith) which focused on "Stirring Tales of Old Buccaneer Days." 37 issues were published in 1905 before it changed its name to Paul Jones Weekly . Instead of pirates, the focus was now on fictional adventures of John Paul Jones , a real-life naval hero of the American Revolution. 19 issues were published before it finally folded in 1906. From J. Randolph Cox's The Dime Novel Companion : "THE RED RAVEN LIBRARY: Stirring Tales of Old Buccaneer Days *The Winner Library Co. *(Street & Smith's), Nos. 1-37; Jan. 7-Sept. 23, 1905. Weekly publication. Size: 8 x 11 inches, 32 pages. Price: 5 cents. Colored pictorial covers. Continued as Paul Jones Weekly. Written by *Thomas C. Harbaugh and *John DeMorgan under the pseudonym of *"An Old Salt." Stories of three boys, *Thaddeus Fergus, Oliver Wade, and Simon Van Twiller ("Simple Simon"), aboard the ship The Red Raven on the trail of Captain Kidd and other pirates. There may have been some attempt to emulate the British Red Rover Library by copying the title logo, but textual comparisons between the two publications reveal no other borrowing or reprinting."
