# Tiger River: An Adventure Serial - Arthur O. Friel (1922) (FIXED)

Scan of the original four part serial which was published in the pulp magazine Adventure (July 20, 1922; July 30, 1922; August 10, 1922; August 30, 1922). Tiger River was first published in book form in hardcover in 1923 by Harper & Brothers, the year following its serialization in Adventure . In 1971, it was reprinted in paperback by Centaur Press as part of its "Time-Lost" series of reprints of pulp fantasy & adventure stories, with cover art by Jeff Jones. Centaur Press was co-founded by legendary SF & fantasy small-press publisher Donald M. Grant. Arthur O. Friel's heyday was the 1920s and 30s and his work appeared almost exclusively in Adventure magazine. Perhaps his best known work was a series of novels set in the jungles of Central and South America concerning the adventures of three soldiers-of-fortune named Roderick McKay, Meredith Knowlton and Tim Ryan. They had served together in WW1 and now were out looking for adventure. The second book in the series was Tiger River (1922) in which the boys, accompanied by the Peruvian bandit Jose Martinez, head up the Tiger River in search of Inca treasure. Along the way they free a tribe of enslaved Indians forced to work in gold mines and return home with a vast quantity of gold. It's a fast-paced, highly entertaining read marred only slightly by the casual racism of the times.
