# Rebirth of New Masses

"Rebirth of New Masses: Gold Now Editor; June Issue is Lively," by A.B. Magil Review article from the pages of the Communist Party's Daily Worker reviewing the new June 1928 issue of The New Masses — originated as a successor to The Liberator and its forerunner, The Masses . The issue marked a move to the editorship of CP loyalist Mike Gold (née Itzok Isaac Granich, 1894-1967) and tighter party control over the political line of the magazine, which initially tried to replicate the liberal-radical alliance that was back of the original Masses . This piece is accompanied by art by Hungarian-American artist Hugo Gellert. Published in the USA between 1923 and 1978 with no notice of copyright in original publication, public domain. Scanned by Martin Goodman as part of the Riazanov Library Digitization Project.
