On this episode of Foxworth Thursday, Bomani Jones and Dominique Foxworth break down Bam Adebayo dropping 83 points in a historic performance—but will anyone remember it like the legendary scoring nights from players like Kobe Bryant? The guys debate how impressive the game really was and why context matters when we talk about huge scoring totals. Later, the Baltimore Ravens reportedly backed out of a trade for Maxx Crosby, leaving the Las Vegas Raiders in a strange position after the deal collapsed over a failed physical. Bomani and Foxworth explain why the situation looks messy—and why the Ravens might have changed their mind after seeing Crosby’s medicals. They also discuss why Daniel Jones landing another big contract says a lot about the quarterback market, the surprising reunion between Geno Smith and the New York Jets and why the league might be overloading the schedule with new games—including a possible Thanksgiving Eve matchup. [0:05] Speaker 1: Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the right time. A wave original.
[0:10] Speaker 1: My name is Beaumont Jones. Thanks for listening wherever you
[0:12] Speaker 1: get your podcast. Thanks for watching us on YouTube. Subscribe, like,
[0:16] Speaker 1: rate us, review us, give us five stars. You only
[0:19] Speaker 1: give us four stars. I'm inclined to believe you are
[0:21] Speaker 1: a hater. It is Foxworth Thursday.
[0:25] Speaker 2: Oh, yeah. Yeah.
[0:27] Speaker 1: Dominique Foxworth, what's going on?
[0:29] Speaker 2: Tuesday night, the ridiculous night in sports, man. I just
[0:35] Speaker 2: thought I was going to be chilling in New York,
[0:36] Speaker 2: hanging out, having a good time, then watch a little
[0:40] Speaker 2: bit of tennis, watch a little bit of Wimby versus
[0:43] Speaker 2: the Celtics, and then shit fell apart. I'm watching Bam
[0:46] Speaker 2: out of Bayou against the Wiz, and then the Max
[0:50] Speaker 2: Crosby thing happens, and all the emails that I sent
[0:54] Speaker 2: in show preparation for get up the next morning, worthless.
[0:57] Speaker 2: Wasted my time doing research to prepare for that.
[1:00] Speaker 1: And y'all wind up in a wild thing with Get
[1:02] Speaker 1: Up On That because I see what they got to do.
[1:04] Speaker 1: They got to get some basketball people on deck. They
[1:06] Speaker 1: got the football people on deck. And then we just
[1:10] Speaker 1: going to see.
[1:13] Speaker 2: That baseball, they try to squeeze baseball in there.
[1:15] Speaker 1: Oh, that's right.
[1:16] Speaker 2: Apparently the manager of the USA team don't understand how
[1:19] Speaker 2: to make it to the out of the pool stage
[1:21] Speaker 2: into the knockout round.
[1:23] Speaker 1: Oh man, I felt so bad for him. Somebody gave
[1:25] Speaker 1: him some bad information. And so he thought that they
[1:28] Speaker 1: was in and then they wasn't in. And then they
[1:30] Speaker 1: went and lost to Italy. They went and lost to
[1:35] Speaker 1: the fighting Tyrico in that game. And so the world
[1:40] Speaker 1: baseball classic is interesting because it's only a very small
[1:45] Speaker 1: number of countries. that should really be participating in this.
[1:49] Speaker 1: That like actually have the manpower to do this. It
[1:52] Speaker 1: is the United States. It is the Dominican. I guess
[1:56] Speaker 1: Puerto Rico gets to compete as itself. Venezuela, you guys
[2:01] Speaker 1: can participate in this. But that's really just about it. Brother, otherwise,
[2:05] Speaker 1: they just be making shit up to get these cats
[2:07] Speaker 1: on these seats.
[2:08] Speaker 2: I mean, Japan, right?
[2:10] Speaker 1: Oh, yeah, Japan. Japan and South Korea, right? They could
[2:13] Speaker 1: put this together. But I saw that Jose Contreras' son,
[2:16] Speaker 1: Jose Contreras, who, by the way, is from Cuba, his
[2:19] Speaker 1: son is 17 years old and he plays in the
[2:23] Speaker 1: Atlanta metro area and he played for Brazil. I can't
[2:27] Speaker 1: think of a single Brazilian baseball player off the top
[2:31] Speaker 1: of my head.
[2:33] Speaker 2: Don't Klay Thompson, brother, play for the British team?
[2:37] Speaker 1: Wow, that's interesting.
[2:38] Speaker 2: The basketball, Clay Thompson.
[2:40] Speaker 1: That's right. Bahamas. They're really doing some colonial games in
[2:47] Speaker 1: order to make this happen.
[2:48] Speaker 2: I mean, the U.S. team doesn't seem to care all
[2:51] Speaker 2: that much. But I can't imagine that any of these
[2:55] Speaker 2: other countries really care. I think we got some cool
[2:58] Speaker 2: moments when it's like we got Otani pitching to Trout
[3:04] Speaker 2: Like last, like we had some cool moments, but overall,
[3:08] Speaker 2: and so it's surprising that the ratings actually are like
[3:10] Speaker 2: better than you would expect. I guess we just like
[3:13] Speaker 2: anything patriotic right now. Maybe. I don't know.
[3:16] Speaker 1: I think it's a cool event in large part because
[3:19] Speaker 1: for Americans, you get to watch people have fun playing baseball,
[3:23] Speaker 1: which you have never seen before. Like those Dominican cats,
[3:29] Speaker 1: them cats from around there, once you see them play,
[3:31] Speaker 1: it's just a whole different situation. It is a totally
[3:35] Speaker 1: contrived event. I bristle at the idea of playing for
[3:39] Speaker 1: your country. You are playing on the American team in
[3:43] Speaker 1: this shit they made up. You know what I mean?
[3:47] Speaker 1: This is not... If you're really doing it for your country,
[3:52] Speaker 1: you'll be like this. You understand what I'm saying? You're
[3:55] Speaker 1: going to have a hat that's flat on the top
[3:57] Speaker 1: if you're really doing this for your country. This is
[4:00] Speaker 1: just an event that they put together.
[4:02] Speaker 2: So you say it's totally contrived. I agree with that.
[4:05] Speaker 2: But how many years does something have to go on
[4:08] Speaker 2: before it's not totally contrived? Because isn't everything totally contrived
[4:12] Speaker 2: in the beginning? Aren't all leagues totally contrived?
[4:14] Speaker 3: No.
[4:15] Speaker 1: What I'm saying is the contrived part. is the idea
[4:19] Speaker 1: that this is about something bigger.
[4:21] Speaker 2: Oh, okay.
[4:22] Speaker 1: Yeah.
[4:22] Speaker 2: Right?
[4:22] Speaker 1: Like, it's the America team.
[4:25] Speaker 2: Yeah.
[4:25] Speaker 1: And they playing, right? Playing for your country. Mike Piazza,
[4:32] Speaker 1: when he did this, he was playing for Italy because
[4:35] Speaker 1: they needed some people on the Italy team. I have
[4:38] Speaker 1: no idea how many of them cats on the Israel
[4:41] Speaker 1: team are actually Israelis or... you know, from somewhere in
[4:45] Speaker 1: America and putting on for Israel.
[4:52] Speaker 2: I mean, there are good games. So I'll enjoy watching
[4:58] Speaker 2: my kids compete. It's because I know who the good
[5:01] Speaker 2: guys are and I know who the bad guys are. And, like,
[5:03] Speaker 2: I have some stake in it, you know? Like, my
[5:06] Speaker 2: team is the good guys. And the same thing when
[5:07] Speaker 2: you watch a team that you care about. It is hard,
[5:10] Speaker 2: which is why a lot of people gamble. It's hard
[5:12] Speaker 2: to get into games with two teams that you're not
[5:15] Speaker 2: moved by or players that you don't know or care about.
[5:18] Speaker 2: That's the secret shortcut to this is you turn it
[5:22] Speaker 2: on and you know who the good guys are. You
[5:25] Speaker 2: know who you're rooting for and you know who you're
[5:27] Speaker 2: rooting against because it makes it pretty clear. So that's
[5:30] Speaker 2: a little bit of the cheat code because I'd be
[5:32] Speaker 2: much more willing to watch that than it's just like,
[5:35] Speaker 2: a random regular season baseball game that i don't care.
[5:38] Speaker 1: About oh usa all right let's go team no no
[5:41] Speaker 1: you're right all that's fair there are some stakes they're
[5:42] Speaker 1: there but no it's a fun event i i can
[5:44] Speaker 1: see why people watch it right like i i get
[5:48] Speaker 1: that let me tell you what i don't get and
[5:49] Speaker 1: i really don't get this you tell me if i'm
[5:52] Speaker 1: tripping here last show we did with danny parkins we
[5:56] Speaker 1: talked about how daniel jones is out here asking 50
[5:59] Speaker 1: million dollars a year when the Colts were like, you
[6:01] Speaker 1: will take this 37 and you will like it. But
[6:03] Speaker 1: it actually turns out they were not saying you will
[6:05] Speaker 1: take this 37 and you like it. They came around
[6:08] Speaker 1: right after we had recorded that, and they are giving
[6:10] Speaker 1: Daniel Jones a two-year deal, $ 88 million base, $ 50 million
[6:14] Speaker 1: guaranteed at signing, $ 60 million guaranteed for injury, maximum value
[6:19] Speaker 1: for $ 100 million. And you watch these things more closely
[6:24] Speaker 1: than I do. Daniel Jones looked like, to me, something
[6:28] Speaker 1: we've seen many, many times. which is somebody gets in
[6:30] Speaker 1: a new situation and gets off to a hot start,
[6:34] Speaker 1: and then everybody was like, wait a minute, man, it's
[6:35] Speaker 1: Daniel Jones. And then he went back to playing like
[6:38] Speaker 1: Daniel Jones before he suffered an Achilles injury. So this
[6:43] Speaker 1: is a world where somebody's falling over themselves to give
[6:45] Speaker 1: him $ 50 million, and the Arizona Cardinals are willing to
[6:49] Speaker 1: eat $ 30- something million to tell Kyler Murray, who I'm pretty
[6:53] Speaker 1: sure is a better player, to go away.
[6:55] Speaker 2: $ 60 million to tell Tua to beat it. Right. Who's
[7:02] Speaker 2: had a better season. Maybe you wouldn't argue he's a
[7:04] Speaker 2: better player, but at least has had a better season.
[7:07] Speaker 1: When did Daniel Jones turn into a guy you pay
[7:09] Speaker 1: $ 50 million to?
[7:10] Speaker 2: Yeah. Far be it from me to knock anybody for
[7:15] Speaker 2: getting their money. However, this seems like a situation where
[7:18] Speaker 2: the circumstances have worked in his benefit. It's Kirk Cousins-esque.
[7:24] Speaker 2: And that the circumstances work to your benefit in such
[7:27] Speaker 2: a way. But it's not even fair to Kirk Cousins
[7:29] Speaker 2: because Kirk Cousins has put together a longer stretch and
[7:33] Speaker 2: more impressive career than I think Daniel Jones has at
[7:37] Speaker 2: this point.
[7:37] Speaker 4: Yes.
[7:37] Speaker 2: And before you even get to the Achilles part, the
[7:40] Speaker 2: Achilles part matters because that is one of the few
[7:43] Speaker 2: remaining injuries that make us nervous long term, right? So, like,
[7:48] Speaker 2: ACL doesn't really make us nervous that much long term.
[7:51] Speaker 2: And at one point, that was it. There's a few
[7:53] Speaker 2: injuries that's like, all right, let me be a little hesitant. Yeah,
[7:57] Speaker 2: you know, like we haven't really seen it in football.
[8:00] Speaker 2: I know Jason Tatum's back in basketball, but like Aaron Rodgers,
[8:03] Speaker 2: that wasn't great, guys. Like Kirk Cousins came back. That
[8:07] Speaker 2: wasn't great, guys. But I don't even think that it's
[8:11] Speaker 2: the fact that it's Achilles that jumps out. It's the
[8:13] Speaker 2: fact that it's Daniel Jones and that he also broke
[8:17] Speaker 2: his leg last year. And I don't remember the last
[8:21] Speaker 2: time Daniel Jones had a full, I guess he got
[8:24] Speaker 2: a contract extension. That was the last time he had
[8:26] Speaker 2: a full healthy season, right? And so you combine the
[8:30] Speaker 2: fact that he's never had a great season. He's had
[8:35] Speaker 2: maybe one fully healthy season. That is not the type
[8:39] Speaker 2: of player that you want to, that you necessarily think
[8:42] Speaker 2: that you have to extend. But I guess that's why
[8:46] Speaker 2: they put him on a two-year deal. It's a result of,
[8:49] Speaker 2: I think, Ballard, the GM there, feeling like his back's
[8:52] Speaker 2: against the wall. And Daniel Jones, if he takes his
[8:57] Speaker 2: transition tag and is like, I'm not signing it until
[9:00] Speaker 2: week one, I'm not going to do anything, that puts
[9:03] Speaker 2: you under the eight ball. And for what reason? Why
[9:05] Speaker 2: not trade away whatever you got and give whatever contracts
[9:10] Speaker 2: you need to give to give yourself the best chance
[9:13] Speaker 2: to demonstrate to the newer decision makers at that organization?
[9:18] Speaker 2: that you are the right guy to stay here for
[9:21] Speaker 2: a few more years.
[9:22] Speaker 1: Man, they love giving Daniel Jones, just finding a reason
[9:27] Speaker 1: to get that boy some money. Same thing with Sam Darnold.
[9:29] Speaker 1: People are just like, hey, man, if you just give
[9:30] Speaker 1: us the opportunity, man, we'd love to give you a
[9:32] Speaker 1: bunch of money, right? I mean, it all worked out,
[9:34] Speaker 1: I guess, in the way for him. But with Daniel Jones,
[9:37] Speaker 1: we talked about this. I'm like, it's Daniel Jones coming
[9:38] Speaker 1: off an Achilles. Daniel Jones, who needs to run. Like,
[9:41] Speaker 1: it's been established that he needs to have them DeAndre
[9:45] Speaker 1: plays put in there for him in order... for you
[9:48] Speaker 1: to get it, right? Like if you just treat him
[9:50] Speaker 1: how he look, it ain't gonna work out so well,
[9:52] Speaker 1: but you throw some apostrophe plays in there for him.
[9:57] Speaker 1: You know what I'm saying? And then some address. gets
[10:00] Speaker 1: opened up and you could do a little bit more.
[10:04] Speaker 1: Anthony Richardson asked for a trade and if I'm the Colts, No, buddy,
[10:08] Speaker 1: you staying right here. We ain't fully gave up on
[10:11] Speaker 1: you yet. They may need him next year. And if
[10:14] Speaker 1: Daniel Jones can reach the point to be a $ 50
[10:15] Speaker 1: million quarterback, don't tell me it's over for Anthony Richardson.
[10:19] Speaker 2: Yeah, and obviously I haven't done.
[10:21] Speaker 1: I refuse to give up, by the way.
[10:22] Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. I was going to breeze by
[10:24] Speaker 2: that because he hasn't given you much to be excited.
[10:28] Speaker 1: Neither had Daniel Jones for his first two years as
[10:32] Speaker 1: the NFL starter.
[10:33] Speaker 2: That's fair. It could come around. It might. But what
[10:36] Speaker 2: surprised me is that they weren't in on the Kyler
[10:39] Speaker 2: Murray situation, especially given Shane Steichen's history. I'm surprised. I
[10:45] Speaker 2: would be surprised. And I haven't talked to Shane Steichen,
[10:47] Speaker 2: but I'd be surprised if Shane Steichen was like looking
[10:51] Speaker 2: at the available quarterbacks and then go upstairs to Chris
[10:54] Speaker 2: Ballard's office and said, let me holler at this guy.
[10:57] Speaker 2: Because we remember Shane Steichen got this job because of
[11:01] Speaker 2: what he was able to do in Philadelphia. with Jalen Hurts.
[11:05] Speaker 2: I'd be shocked if he looked at Kyler Murray combined
[11:09] Speaker 2: with Jonathan Taylor, Warren, that tight end that they have
[11:13] Speaker 2: is awesome, a very good offensive line. They extend Pierce.
[11:17] Speaker 2: I'd be shocked if he wasn't like, hey, go give
[11:20] Speaker 2: Kyler Murray that $ 1 million. But Kyler might have just
[11:24] Speaker 2: been like, nah, these Vikings got what I need.
[11:28] Speaker 1: Or Shane Steichen called his old coworker.
[11:32] Speaker 2: Yeah.
[11:32] Speaker 1: Jonathan Gannon.
[11:33] Speaker 2: Fair.
[11:34] Speaker 1: And was like, what's it like working with Kyler Murray?
[11:37] Speaker 1: And he was like, how much time you got?
[11:40] Speaker 2: But I agree. That's a possibility.
[11:43] Speaker 1: I'm just saying that's a hypothesis. I'm not saying that's
[11:45] Speaker 1: a good enough reason.
[11:46] Speaker 2: No, it certainly is a hypothesis. But I'm putting myself
[11:51] Speaker 2: in his shoes. And I've heard a lot of the
[11:53] Speaker 2: same things that Jonathan Gannon might tell Shane Steichen. And
[11:58] Speaker 2: my job on the line. I'm looking at Daniel Jones
[12:01] Speaker 2: in a boot. And I'm possibly considering Kyler Murray moodless.
[12:10] Speaker 2: Kyler Murray... Humbled, possibly.
[12:14] Speaker 5: Maybe we got a new Kyler Murray that want to
[12:17] Speaker 5: show something.
[12:18] Speaker 2: I'm going to bring Kyler Murray in for that $ 1
[12:20] Speaker 2: million and say, look here, Kyler, I don't know about
[12:23] Speaker 2: none of that. I don't care. We're going to ball
[12:27] Speaker 2: out this year because you know what happens after this year?
[12:29] Speaker 2: If you ball out, massive extension. If I ball out,
[12:33] Speaker 2: massive extension. You and me, Kyler, I don't give a
[12:37] Speaker 2: damn about this. This is the speech I'm giving them.
[12:38] Speaker 2: I don't give.
[12:39] Speaker 5: A damn about none of that. You and me, we're
[12:41] Speaker 5: going to get a two bedroom apartment. We're going to
[12:45] Speaker 5: get up at five in the morning together. We're going
[12:49] Speaker 5: to carpool our.
[12:51] Speaker 2: Narrow asses to the facility together.
[12:53] Speaker 4: We're going to live, watch film and work together. It's
[12:57] Speaker 4: going to be one year of hell. For you and me,
[13:01] Speaker 4: I'm going to hate it too. When Call of Duty
[13:03] Speaker 4: come out, I'm with you. I'm going to give you,
[13:07] Speaker 4: I'm going to evac you. If you down, I'm going
[13:09] Speaker 4: to revive you in Call of Duty.
[13:11] Speaker 2: We together. I'm not going to like it. You're not
[13:13] Speaker 2: going to like it. But you know what? Come January,
[13:17] Speaker 2: February time, You and me, we going to get paid.
[13:21] Speaker 2: You can go somewhere else. I can go somewhere else.
[13:24] Speaker 2: It don't matter. But we need each other right now.
[13:27] Speaker 2: I would try to sell that to Kyler Murray if
[13:29] Speaker 2: I could.
[13:30] Speaker 1: Y'all about to be the meme. He about to be
[13:33] Speaker 1: the meme of Brother Man Coach. Now bring me my money.
[13:39] Speaker 2: Exactly. Going to do the Roy Williams strut right into
[13:43] Speaker 2: the ownership office.
[13:45] Speaker 1: We gots to get this bread, dawg.
[13:48] Speaker 2: Hey, man, you can tell them.
[13:50] Speaker 1: You've written about it. You've had to, let's get this
[13:52] Speaker 1: money seasoned.
[13:53] Speaker 2: Oh, yeah. Yeah. I've told you and I've written about
[13:57] Speaker 2: how it was probably the closest I've ever felt to
[14:01] Speaker 2: depression because it was not fun. I got traded right
[14:05] Speaker 2: before my contract year. And I was like, holy, it
[14:09] Speaker 2: was a realization. And it's different for Kyler Murray. He
[14:11] Speaker 2: was the number one overall pick. His money was different
[14:13] Speaker 2: than mine was. But at that time, it was like,
[14:16] Speaker 2: holy shit. All that I've dedicated my life to, right now,
[14:22] Speaker 2: it comes down to this season. Either I play poorly
[14:26] Speaker 2: and I got a couple hundred thousand dollars in the bank,
[14:29] Speaker 2: which ain't bad. A couple hundred thousand dollars in the
[14:31] Speaker 2: bank in my mid-20s, no professional experience. Damn it.
[14:37] Speaker 4: Or.
[14:38] Speaker 2: got some M's and life looking pretty bright. That's a
[14:43] Speaker 2: lot of pressure. Then you get traded and you live
[14:45] Speaker 2: it out of a hotel room and it was miserable.
[14:48] Speaker 2: I wasn't watching shit but film and only Sonny in
[14:51] Speaker 2: Philadelphia trying to force myself to get a laugh. That
[14:54] Speaker 2: was it. Off my broke ass laptop.
[14:57] Speaker 1: You helped teach something that's very important. I always say
[15:00] Speaker 1: focus is a skill, right? Focus is a resource and
[15:05] Speaker 1: We always talk about the contract here. They'd be like, yeah,
[15:07] Speaker 1: he's doing that because of money on the line. Yes
[15:08] Speaker 1: and no, right? Obviously, we as humans cannot always tap
[15:15] Speaker 1: into the utmost focus for whatever reason, right? Sometimes it's
[15:18] Speaker 1: different than others. Like sometimes in the gym, you lift
[15:20] Speaker 1: a little more. Sometimes you throw it up 30. Sometimes
[15:23] Speaker 1: you throw it up 20, right? It just goes that
[15:26] Speaker 1: way sometimes. But that got to make that focus.
[15:33] Speaker 2: That got to is a cousin of can't go back.
[15:37] Speaker 2: There's nothing stronger than can't go back. I'm not saying
[15:39] Speaker 2: that I had the can't go back coursing through my veins,
[15:43] Speaker 2: but I had the got to coursing through there. And
[15:45] Speaker 2: that's pretty damn strong. And yeah, I read a book
[15:48] Speaker 2: a while ago called Scarcity, and it talked a lot
[15:51] Speaker 2: about like the benefits and the drawbacks of like feeling
[15:55] Speaker 2: that pressure and that scarcity. But yeah. We're people, man.
[15:59] Speaker 2: You can't simulate. It's something we talk about all the time.
[16:02] Speaker 2: You can't simulate real desperation. You can't fake that. We
[16:07] Speaker 2: read articles. Maybe they're true. Maybe they're not. Like moms
[16:10] Speaker 2: getting superpowers when their kids in danger and lifting up
[16:13] Speaker 2: cars and shit like that. I don't know, but I
[16:15] Speaker 2: know that shit feel different sometimes. And I believe it.
[16:19] Speaker 1: Let me tell you what I believe in that mom
[16:21] Speaker 1: superpower type stuff. It was the NFC Championship game. I've
[16:25] Speaker 1: talked about this on the show before. If you've never
[16:27] Speaker 1: seen it, look it up. My head, I maybe made
[16:31] Speaker 1: it a little bit more hyperbole in watching it, but
[16:34] Speaker 1: when you watch it, you'll still see what I'm talking about.
[16:36] Speaker 1: So in the year of our Lord, 2009, Adrian Peterson
[16:39] Speaker 1: had a real problem with fumbling, right? They just kept
[16:43] Speaker 1: taking the ball out of his hands, which seems impossible
[16:46] Speaker 1: for a man whose greatest known feat is his handshake, right?
[16:50] Speaker 1: But for whatever reason, people kept making him fumble. And
[16:54] Speaker 1: in that NFC championship game, I want to say he
[16:57] Speaker 1: had multiple phones, but the last fumble he had, he
[17:01] Speaker 1: recovered it himself. And it looked like the equivalent of
[17:06] Speaker 1: what if somebody jumped from the bottom of the pool
[17:10] Speaker 1: and landed on their feet? with just one jump, not
[17:13] Speaker 1: even pulling themselves off the wall. Agent Peterson understood now
[17:17] Speaker 1: was not the time to lose a fumble. It is
[17:19] Speaker 1: one of the most incredible things I have ever seen
[17:22] Speaker 1: in my life. And it would not have been the
[17:23] Speaker 1: case in week two. It would not have been the
[17:25] Speaker 1: case in week seven. It happened right then and there.
[17:29] Speaker 2: I've told this a bunch of times, but you know this,
[17:32] Speaker 2: that was one of the differences that I thought that
[17:35] Speaker 2: I saw in and Ray Lewis in any other play.
[17:38] Speaker 2: You can point to all the special things about him,
[17:40] Speaker 2: but one of the differences that I saw in him
[17:42] Speaker 2: was somehow the level, like my most important can't go back,
[17:52] Speaker 2: everything's on the line, high pressure, that level of focus
[17:56] Speaker 2: and intensity was that fool's baseline.
[18:00] Speaker 4: Pfft.
[18:02] Speaker 2: Like, I don't know if he got higher than that
[18:04] Speaker 2: for other, like, high-intensity games. I couldn't really tell because
[18:08] Speaker 2: it felt intense. Like, when we were in the playoffs together,
[18:10] Speaker 2: it feels intense. I wasn't on the Super Bowl team,
[18:13] Speaker 2: either of his Super Bowl teams, so maybe it was
[18:15] Speaker 2: higher then, too. But I know that I looked at
[18:18] Speaker 2: him before every random game and was like, at this
[18:22] Speaker 2: point in your career, how you care this much right now?
[18:26] Speaker 2: You can't fake it, man. You can't fake it. It's
[18:28] Speaker 2: something about... And that might be... Some other players might
[18:30] Speaker 2: be like that. And maybe he takes it to an
[18:32] Speaker 2: even higher level when he knocking out Eddie George in
[18:35] Speaker 2: the playoffs. Like, it's possible. But it's a special amount
[18:39] Speaker 2: of focus.
[18:40] Speaker 1: That's Michael Jordan.
[18:42] Speaker 3: Yeah.
[18:43] Speaker 2: Same thing. And to your point, that focus is a resource.
[18:45] Speaker 2: You're right. Like, some people, it's the same way to, like,
[18:47] Speaker 2: speed is a resource. Of course, you're going to run faster,
[18:50] Speaker 2: sometimes slower sometimes. And some people start at a higher point. Like,
[18:54] Speaker 2: some people... has some issues with attention, that man can focus.
[18:58] Speaker 1: That's what I'm saying. We clearly recognize that there's only
[19:01] Speaker 1: a certain endowment in this because people spend all kinds
[19:03] Speaker 1: of money on dope.
[19:04] Speaker 2: Oh, yeah, for sure.
[19:05] Speaker 1: So they can get it back. You know what I'm saying?
[19:08] Speaker 1: There's a whole industry based around I can help you focus.
[19:12] Speaker 2: I get it. Yeah, I was listening to some podcast
[19:16] Speaker 2: this morning about politics and was talking about how power
[19:19] Speaker 2: is a combination of resources and will. is like the
[19:25] Speaker 2: the calculation that makes power and i was thinking about
[19:28] Speaker 2: that in a sports context or an athlete's context and
[19:31] Speaker 2: the will is kind of the focus part to some
[19:33] Speaker 2: degree is like and that's the can't go back so
[19:36] Speaker 2: like yeah there's there are some things that are different
[19:39] Speaker 2: that you can't create and like yeah the resources are
[19:41] Speaker 2: whatever you have physically yeah but that doesn't like we
[19:45] Speaker 2: all know great athletes that didn't figure it out didn't
[19:47] Speaker 2: make it anywhere that will something strong, man. Yeah, man.
[19:53] Speaker 1: By the way, since you mentioned the Ravens, man, what
[19:55] Speaker 1: the hell they up there doing, dog? I sent a
[19:57] Speaker 1: text to Mina and I asked the question. We used
[19:59] Speaker 1: to have a word for what the Ravens did, but
[20:02] Speaker 1: we never replaced it with something more politically correct. So, like,
[20:05] Speaker 1: what kind of giving did they engage in? And if
[20:07] Speaker 1: one word– if– One word to refer to it is
[20:10] Speaker 1: Caucasian given. Would that be offensive?
[20:15] Speaker 2: Yeah. At this time, I wouldn't mess around with it.
[20:19] Speaker 1: Nah, I wouldn't do that either. I don't recommend anybody...
[20:23] Speaker 1: I don't think nobody should make that point. But, you know,
[20:28] Speaker 1: European strings attached, maybe? I don't know.
[20:31] Speaker 2: I like that. Yeah, I like that.
[20:32] Speaker 1: You know what it's like the Ravens did?
[20:34] Speaker 2: The Ravens is like.
[20:35] Speaker 1: When you accidentally send a text and it's hanging in
[20:37] Speaker 1: the air and you really don't want it to go through,
[20:38] Speaker 1: but you got to turn the whole computer off. All right?
[20:42] Speaker 1: You got to turn the whole phone off.
[20:43] Speaker 2: That's what they did.
[20:44] Speaker 1: They turned the whole phone off. And then when it
[20:49] Speaker 1: came down to it, somebody was like, oh, they ain't
[20:51] Speaker 1: tell you? Mm-hmm.
[20:54] Speaker 2: You ain't heard? Huh. Oh, they ain't tell you. It's hilarious.
[21:01] Speaker 1: You know, that's when everybody else is bullshit. When everybody
[21:04] Speaker 1: ain't tell you. It ain't that motherfucker looking like a triangle.
[21:10] Speaker 1: Looking like recycle, reduce, reuse. Everybody just pointing around at
[21:15] Speaker 1: each other.
[21:17] Speaker 2: It's bad, man. As the time has gone on, it
[21:20] Speaker 2: feels like the NFL world is all looking at the
[21:25] Speaker 2: Ravens funny. Right? Yeah. And I still stand by the
[21:32] Speaker 2: fact that I think that the outcome that they would
[21:35] Speaker 2: have preferred is a fully healthy Max Crosby. I think
[21:39] Speaker 2: he's that good. I think they would have preferred to
[21:42] Speaker 2: have gotten him for the picks that they sent away
[21:45] Speaker 2: at whatever level they expected. but I also think it's really,
[21:49] Speaker 2: it's very reasonable to think that the circumstances changed. So
[21:56] Speaker 2: we say pass fail for the physical. And this is
[21:58] Speaker 2: how I explained it on my show is like, we
[22:00] Speaker 2: say pass fail. Like there is like, there's some absolute
[22:04] Speaker 2: to it. Like it's a light switch. Like it's something
[22:07] Speaker 2: that all people would say. I understand like, no, the
[22:10] Speaker 2: pass fail line for a physical moves based on your circumstances.
[22:15] Speaker 2: So like, if I am getting you for league minimum,
[22:20] Speaker 2: what I would require for you to consider you pass
[22:24] Speaker 2: is lower, right? If I'm looking to draft you number
[22:28] Speaker 2: one overall, then what I would require would be higher.
[22:34] Speaker 2: If I am giving two first-round picks to get you,
[22:37] Speaker 2: it's going to be higher. If a suitable replacement, we discover,
[22:44] Speaker 2: is a little less expensive than we... than we thought
[22:48] Speaker 2: what I would require for your knee to look like
[22:51] Speaker 2: goes up a little higher. And that like, it's one
[22:54] Speaker 2: of those conspiracy theories that is, is so like logical
[22:59] Speaker 2: that it feels less conspiratorial. It was like, Oh, Trey
[23:03] Speaker 2: took a minute for Trey yesterday.
[23:06] Speaker 1: It's, it's, it's the fact that they did not try
[23:09] Speaker 1: to change the terms of the deal.
[23:11] Speaker 4: Yeah.
[23:13] Speaker 1: That's what we, they, yeah. Like if they had been like,
[23:15] Speaker 1: all right, I take this down to a one and
[23:16] Speaker 1: a three, Right. But they didn't do that. They was like,
[23:21] Speaker 1: you know what? No, no, no, no, no.
[23:24] Speaker 3: We good.
[23:24] Speaker 1: We good. No, no, no, no. It's OK. I just
[23:27] Speaker 1: here's my receipt. Can you put it back on my card? No, no, no.
[23:31] Speaker 1: I don't want no store credit. I want no store credit.
[23:34] Speaker 1: I want I want that back on my card.
[23:37] Speaker 2: They asked you, what was the problem with it? You're like,
[23:43] Speaker 2: I don't know the knee. You know what it is?
[23:46] Speaker 1: That's actually now we got even better. They tried to
[23:49] Speaker 1: take back an open box. You know with the open
[23:54] Speaker 1: box anything is possible. They took the open box. They
[23:59] Speaker 1: were like, yo, I need a refund on this open box.
[24:01] Speaker 1: They're like, yo, but it's an open box. You can't
[24:03] Speaker 1: do that. Yeah, that's fine, but we need a refund.
[24:05] Speaker 1: We looked inside and it's broke. But you knew it
[24:10] Speaker 1: was an open box.
[24:12] Speaker 2: But this is, as we search around for the perfect analogy,
[24:18] Speaker 2: where the Raiders get into a tough situation is they
[24:25] Speaker 2: gave them max on consignment. They didn't get paid. Because
[24:30] Speaker 2: then that's the thing, the store, once they got your money,
[24:33] Speaker 2: you come back and they're like, it's open box. Oh,
[24:36] Speaker 2: I'm not going to give you the money. You go
[24:37] Speaker 2: ahead and rip it out the register. The Ravens never paid.
[24:41] Speaker 2: They called the credit card company and said, cancel that.
[24:44] Speaker 2: Cancel that before they can process it. Cancel it.
[24:50] Speaker 1: The Ravens just over there like, we're going to get
[24:53] Speaker 1: him out of here, but he don't want to be
[24:54] Speaker 1: here no more. At least they don't have to put
[24:57] Speaker 1: him back in uniform. At least they didn't do this
[24:59] Speaker 1: at the trade deadline.
[25:00] Speaker 2: The worst part, I think, for the Raiders is that
[25:04] Speaker 2: they are in a much worse position than they were before. Like,
[25:09] Speaker 2: had they never even gotten into this agreement with the Ravens,
[25:13] Speaker 2: Max Crosby's value would be higher and they could get
[25:17] Speaker 2: one of those. So Max Crosby's value is depressed now.
[25:19] Speaker 2: So they got the deal got reneged and they got
[25:23] Speaker 2: back a less valuable piece. And the Ravens went on
[25:27] Speaker 2: to get back their picks that are still just as
[25:29] Speaker 2: valuable as they were before and a replacement for the
[25:35] Speaker 2: position that they that they needed.
[25:37] Speaker 1: Well, let me ask you this. What do you think
[25:39] Speaker 1: of all these people that are now... We hear people
[25:43] Speaker 1: talk about the Ravens like it's a clown show, and
[25:46] Speaker 1: I had spent the last two and a half decades
[25:48] Speaker 1: people talking about it's the best running organization in the league.
[25:52] Speaker 2: That was what bought them some goodwill with me, at least,
[25:55] Speaker 2: was like, that sounds absurd. The Ravens don't do that.
[25:59] Speaker 2: The Ravens don't. That ain't how the Ravens operate. Ozzy? Nah,
[26:04] Speaker 2: that ain't what they would do. But it feels like
[26:07] Speaker 2: it doesn't take much. Um, I tell, uh, yeah, I
[26:11] Speaker 2: definitely can't tell this story on here, but one of
[26:13] Speaker 2: my college coaches told a story once that, um, stuck
[26:17] Speaker 2: with me. It was called Pierre. He called it Pierre,
[26:19] Speaker 2: the bridge builder.
[26:20] Speaker 1: And, um, I know similar analogs about that one. I
[26:26] Speaker 1: think I've told you before, but yeah. Does it involve
[26:30] Speaker 1: a goat at some point?
[26:32] Speaker 2: It doesn't, but yeah, the same sort of thing.
[26:34] Speaker 1: Yeah, the version I heard involves a goat.
[26:36] Speaker 2: Yeah, this was in the early 2000s, and we were
[26:40] Speaker 2: hyper-masculine football players. So he went with something that... that
[26:46] Speaker 2: those type of people would find incredibly offensive at that time.
[26:50] Speaker 2: I don't think it would work. The GOAT might be
[26:52] Speaker 2: more offensive now, but back then, he wanted you to
[26:55] Speaker 2: know that the thing that you would most hate to
[26:59] Speaker 2: be considered... In 2001, you it, because you did it once.
[27:03] Speaker 1: You get caught one time.
[27:04] Speaker 2: Yeah, that's the.
[27:05] Speaker 1: That's what you will be forever.
[27:06] Speaker 2: That's the essence of the story. Pierre the Bridge Builder
[27:09] Speaker 2: was the greatest bridge builder. He built lots of bridges,
[27:11] Speaker 2: and everyone revered him as being a great bridge builder.
[27:13] Speaker 2: Then somebody caught him doing something once, one time. And
[27:16] Speaker 2: from then on, nobody called him Pierre the Bridge Builder.
[27:19] Speaker 2: It reminded me of my homeboy at elementary school named P.P. Gregg.
[27:23] Speaker 2: Man peed on himself just a couple times at elementary school.
[27:26] Speaker 2: He did a bunch of other things. Still call that
[27:29] Speaker 2: man P.P. to this day.
[27:30] Speaker 1: Yeah, there was some dude that was allegedly in high school,
[27:36] Speaker 1: caught in the bathroom playing a solo.
[27:38] Speaker 2: Yeah.
[27:39] Speaker 1: I don't even know if it actually happened, but he
[27:42] Speaker 1: was J-O-B until the end. It had wore off by
[27:45] Speaker 1: the time Reunion came around. They called that man J-O-B.
[27:50] Speaker 1: I don't even know what J-O-B stood for. His name
[27:52] Speaker 1: was J-O-B forever.
[27:54] Speaker 2: I mean, that's the best possible outcome because... At some point,
[27:59] Speaker 2: it becomes a nickname and nobody knows what it comes from.
[28:03] Speaker 2: And just hope that they don't ask the origins. Because, like, P.P.
[28:06] Speaker 2: Gregg eventually just became P. Like, he went to P.P.
[28:09] Speaker 3: Gregg.
[28:10] Speaker 2: We called him P.P.
[28:10] Speaker 1: Gregg.
[28:10] Speaker 2: Then it was just P.P. Then eventually it was just P.
[28:13] Speaker 2: No P's in his name anywhere to be found. Sooner
[28:16] Speaker 2: or later, where P at? Where P? Like Swaggy P. Yeah,
[28:19] Speaker 2: the man P.P. 'd on himself a few times in
[28:23] Speaker 2: the third grade. P.P. Gregg forever.
[28:26] Speaker 1: All right, coming up next, we got more with Dominique Fosworth,
[28:30] Speaker 1: including the most amazing full circle story in the NFL that.
[28:33] Speaker 2: I can remember.

[31:57] Speaker 1: Did you ever think that you would see a time
[32:00] Speaker 1: where Geno Smith and the New York Jets would be reunited?
[32:09] Speaker 2: I mean, it had to be a last resort, man. Like,
[32:11] Speaker 2: if I was Geno, I would do all things possible
[32:14] Speaker 2: to avoid giving people the opportunity to revisit that story, man.
[32:19] Speaker 2: Or any of it.
[32:20] Speaker 1: And, okay, it's very difficult for me to judge Geno
[32:25] Speaker 1: on what happened last year with the Raiders because it
[32:28] Speaker 1: was such a disaster what was going on with that team, right? However,
[32:32] Speaker 1: Aaron Glenn didn't appear to do a much better job
[32:36] Speaker 1: last year than Pink Carroll did. OK, he also has
[32:41] Speaker 1: done a terrible job of dealing with the media. Like,
[32:43] Speaker 1: I don't think Aaron Glenn is being extended with so
[32:45] Speaker 1: much courtesy this year. And your black head coach bringing
[32:51] Speaker 1: in the black quarterback that the fans hated. Whether they
[32:55] Speaker 1: were being fair or not is not the point. This
[32:59] Speaker 1: seems like a situation that is not it doesn't seem
[33:02] Speaker 1: conducive to success for anybody involved. But I'm also not
[33:05] Speaker 1: sure that there was going to be a better quarterback
[33:07] Speaker 1: that the Jets could get.
[33:09] Speaker 2: That's the thing. I'm not sure how I would classify
[33:13] Speaker 2: Jets fans on the spectrum of informed fans or not,
[33:17] Speaker 2: or educated fans. And not like traditional education, just like
[33:23] Speaker 2: how much they know about the football world. Because I
[33:27] Speaker 2: think if they are, they are welcoming Geno Smith. I
[33:33] Speaker 2: think it seems obviously that you do not have a
[33:36] Speaker 2: franchise that or a situation right now that is advantageous
[33:42] Speaker 2: to a starting-level quarterback. And Geno Smith seems to be that.
[33:48] Speaker 2: So maybe they'll be upset or not welcome him or
[33:52] Speaker 2: have a short kind of fuse with him because of
[33:56] Speaker 2: their history with him.
[33:58] Speaker 4: But.
[33:59] Speaker 2: I don't know who they think they were going to
[34:01] Speaker 2: get that's better than that, given the situation right now.
[34:05] Speaker 1: Yeah, no, it's just if he had not played for
[34:07] Speaker 1: them before, I don't think I would view this in
[34:10] Speaker 1: the same manner. Now, have you seen the run-through of
[34:12] Speaker 1: all the quarterbacks since Geno's first start with the Jets,
[34:15] Speaker 1: all the quarterbacks that they started before they bring this
[34:17] Speaker 1: back around?
[34:18] Speaker 2: I haven't, man.
[34:19] Speaker 1: Okay, I'm going to run through the names, and I'm
[34:21] Speaker 1: not going to really stop. I'm just going to run
[34:23] Speaker 1: through them, and I'm going to be curious if you
[34:25] Speaker 1: have the same observation at the end that I did.
[34:28] Speaker 1: And keeping in mind, we're talking about the versions of
[34:31] Speaker 1: these players as they were with the Jets, okay? Matt Sims,
[34:36] Speaker 1: Michael Vick, Ryan Fitzpatrick, Bryce Petty, Josh McCown, Sam Darnold,
[34:42] Speaker 1: Trevor Simeon, Luke Falk, Joe Flacco, Zach Wilson, Mike White,
[34:48] Speaker 1: Josh Johnson, Chris Streveler, I've never heard of him, Aaron Rodgers,
[34:54] Speaker 1: Tim Boyle, Terod Taylor, Justin Fields, and Brady Cook. You
[35:00] Speaker 1: know what I feel like they all have in common?
[35:03] Speaker 1: I'm not sure any of them, while with the Jets,
[35:05] Speaker 1: except for 2015, how many of them were actually better? Like,
[35:09] Speaker 1: if at the same time they were there, the Jets
[35:11] Speaker 1: had had Geno Smith, they probably would have been better off. Like,
[35:14] Speaker 1: you look at the run of quarterbacks they had post-Geno,
[35:16] Speaker 1: and it's like, you know, the same way they keep
[35:18] Speaker 1: talking about Sam Darnold, if.
[35:19] Speaker 2: They had just waited and given him a little bit
[35:21] Speaker 2: more time.
[35:23] Speaker 1: Apparently, they should have had Geno Smith as the quarterback
[35:25] Speaker 1: for 13 years.
[35:26] Speaker 2: I mean, that's my point, is I think they know that.
[35:29] Speaker 2: That's what I'm saying. It's like, I don't know how
[35:31] Speaker 2: smart they are as football fans, but if there's someone
[35:37] Speaker 2: in this marriage or this connection, because it's multiple parties,
[35:41] Speaker 2: that should feel appreciative, it's the Jets fans, the Jets organization.
[35:49] Speaker 2: He's the one that comes in, I think. And even
[35:52] Speaker 2: coming off as bad a season he's had last year,
[35:54] Speaker 2: I think most people... attribute that to what was happening
[35:58] Speaker 2: around him. He's the one who I think might have
[36:02] Speaker 2: had more options. I actually think that the Falcons, given
[36:06] Speaker 2: that they went with Tua, probably should have been, I
[36:10] Speaker 2: guess the left-handed thing mattered more than I thought it should.
[36:13] Speaker 2: They probably should have been thinking about Geno.
[36:16] Speaker 1: They also got Tua for minimum wage.
[36:18] Speaker 3: Right.
[36:19] Speaker 2: Fair.
[36:20] Speaker 1: Geno ain't showing up for no minimum wage. Honestly, I
[36:24] Speaker 1: think the Raiders should have kept him.
[36:25] Speaker 2: Yeah.
[36:26] Speaker 1: Like, there's no reason for Geno not to be your
[36:28] Speaker 1: starter next year. Like, I don't, there is no, you're
[36:32] Speaker 1: not trotting John Elway out there. You're not trotting Andrew
[36:34] Speaker 1: Luck out there, right? Like, you're not trotting out a
[36:37] Speaker 1: quarterback that I feel like is like, oh, we got
[36:40] Speaker 1: to hurry out and get him on the field for
[36:41] Speaker 1: the fans. I feel like they're drafting a quarterback that
[36:43] Speaker 1: you could definitely be like, hey, post up for a
[36:45] Speaker 1: little bit, big dog. We'll get back to you.
[36:49] Speaker 2: Yeah, I think Geno's definitely, well, I guess you have to,
[36:52] Speaker 2: he might also just be so pissed off and annoyed that,
[36:58] Speaker 2: that he's just scoring and maybe they're not looking to
[37:00] Speaker 2: deal with that. But the idea that he was happy
[37:04] Speaker 2: and comfortable with going to the Jets suggests that he
[37:08] Speaker 2: was not like thinking, oh man, this is my chance
[37:12] Speaker 2: to make it big. I can't stay around here and
[37:14] Speaker 2: help transition as a quarterback, right?
[37:17] Speaker 1: Yeah, no, this is... I talked about this a little
[37:20] Speaker 1: bit with Parkins, but it's very interesting. This is a
[37:22] Speaker 1: year where there feels like there's been more mobility than
[37:25] Speaker 1: ever for just kind of regular dudes. I feel like
[37:28] Speaker 1: Kyler Murray, even Geno Smith, I watch Alex Smith get
[37:32] Speaker 1: traded repeatedly. And the point I'm making is, and I
[37:35] Speaker 1: guess Geno Smith was traded, though it was for like
[37:37] Speaker 1: a six-round pick or something like that. But I feel
[37:40] Speaker 1: like these are quarterbacks that are a little bit too
[37:41] Speaker 1: good for somebody to just be able to get like this.
[37:45] Speaker 2: Is that because just the quality of quarterback has gone up?
[37:49] Speaker 2: Or do you think that this is like an aberration?
[37:56] Speaker 2: These type of guys in the rankings of quarterback always
[38:00] Speaker 2: were available to move around, but this batch of quarterbacks
[38:04] Speaker 2: was also never this talented?
[38:08] Speaker 1: Yeah, it's a good question because it was a couple
[38:10] Speaker 1: of years ago. It felt like everything was wrong in
[38:13] Speaker 1: quarterback world.
[38:14] Speaker 2: You know what I mean?
[38:14] Speaker 1: Like I can never keep up on whether or not
[38:16] Speaker 1: we had a golden era of quarterbacks or hard times.
[38:20] Speaker 2: I mean, it's only so it's so few places, only
[38:23] Speaker 2: 32 teams. If you get a batch of five to
[38:26] Speaker 2: six young guys that come in and you maintain like
[38:29] Speaker 2: four or five old guys, then the league is flush.
[38:33] Speaker 1: Yeah, well, look, Trevor Lawrence finally got his shit together, right?
[38:36] Speaker 1: You know what I'm saying? Baker Mayfield ain't above no more.
[38:39] Speaker 1: Sam Darnold, that happened. You know what I'm saying? It
[38:43] Speaker 1: just takes a couple of turns. Don't let J.J. McCarthy
[38:45] Speaker 1: get his shit right.
[38:46] Speaker 2: Yeah, and I mean, the J.J. McCarthy draft, not including him,
[38:50] Speaker 2: three really good guys. And getting a new coach in
[38:53] Speaker 2: Chicago has helped with Caleb. That's right. Yeah, we got
[38:56] Speaker 2: three really good young guys. Then Stroud, who... And then
[39:00] Speaker 2: he's a little bit on thin ice, but, like, he's
[39:02] Speaker 2: a legitimate starting quarterback. It's just like we had– and
[39:05] Speaker 2: it's also quarterbacks playing longer, I think, too. We had
[39:09] Speaker 2: a long stretch of guys that– I don't know. I
[39:14] Speaker 2: guess it's a surprise to me how fast it feels
[39:17] Speaker 2: like we switched over to, like, the Mahomes, Allen, Lamar guys. Like,
[39:24] Speaker 2: they're getting real close to old guy.
[39:28] Speaker 1: They are. And it's going to be different because we
[39:30] Speaker 1: went through this run where we had super old guys, right?
[39:33] Speaker 1: We had Brady, Breeze, Manning play forever. That's not really
[39:39] Speaker 1: how this works.
[39:41] Speaker 2: It's not how it used to work. I mean, I
[39:42] Speaker 2: guess the question is, is that how it works going forward?
[39:45] Speaker 2: And And Brady, Breeze, Manning are different types of quarterbacks.
[39:48] Speaker 2: So you could make the argument either way, that science
[39:52] Speaker 2: is better, take care of your body is better, so
[39:54] Speaker 2: they'll play longer. But you could also say these quarterbacks
[39:57] Speaker 2: play differently than those quarterbacks, so maybe they won't be
[40:00] Speaker 2: effective as long as those guys.
[40:01] Speaker 1: I don't know. I feel like the rest of these
[40:03] Speaker 1: cats seem to be still falling apart. You know what
[40:06] Speaker 1: I'm saying?
[40:07] Speaker 2: They are.
[40:07] Speaker 1: I want to run this by the people right fast.
[40:10] Speaker 1: It appears per ESPN has this report and per a memo,
[40:15] Speaker 1: That the owner, Steve Tish, and I think he got
[40:20] Speaker 1: a couple siblings, they own a big piece of the Giants.
[40:23] Speaker 1: So we have referred to Steve Tish as co-owner of
[40:25] Speaker 1: the Giants for a very long time. Anyway, if you
[40:29] Speaker 1: hit Control-F on Tish, he come up in them files, right?
[40:35] Speaker 1: And he came up because the girls was complainin'. They
[40:39] Speaker 1: thought that this was just about a little bit of
[40:40] Speaker 1: bitterness and maybe they go, you know, do the thing
[40:43] Speaker 1: and then maybe he'll put them in a movie. But
[40:45] Speaker 1: it turned out that he was wooking penub in all
[40:47] Speaker 1: the wrong paces. And he kept trying to hang out
[40:51] Speaker 1: with them and they didn't like that. Anyway, it appears
[40:55] Speaker 1: that the Tishes want to put their stakes of the
[40:58] Speaker 1: team into the trust of their children. Epstein strikes again.
[41:05] Speaker 4: Yep.
[41:07] Speaker 2: Everywhere man everywhere like there's nothing obviously that it feels
[41:12] Speaker 2: like there's something around the league that's going to happen
[41:16] Speaker 2: there like they're not doing that for fun like I
[41:19] Speaker 2: imagine that Steve Tisch would have rode this out there's
[41:24] Speaker 2: like my assumption is there's a penalty coming there's a
[41:26] Speaker 2: decision being made that's why these steps are being taken.
[41:30] Speaker 1: So yeah but it's just like up it's crept up
[41:35] Speaker 1: it's here It's here. You got caught up. Got caught up.
[41:40] Speaker 1: You got caught up. Last thing. What you think about
[41:44] Speaker 1: the NFL exploring playing a game on Thanksgiving Eve?
[41:53] Speaker 2: I believe that oversaturation is a thing. Ask the NBA.
[42:01] Speaker 2: I also recognize that If I had something that people
[42:05] Speaker 2: was willing to pay a billion dollars for, I'd figure
[42:10] Speaker 2: out how to make new ones all the time. If
[42:13] Speaker 2: I had a widget that people was like, I give
[42:15] Speaker 2: you a billion dollars for, I would chop that thing up,
[42:19] Speaker 2: step on it so many times, cut that thing, twist
[42:22] Speaker 2: it and reverse it and sell it to them again.
[42:24] Speaker 2: I can't blame them for doing it, but as someone
[42:29] Speaker 2: who's not going to make any more money off of this,
[42:32] Speaker 2: I recognize that. God, like there was part of the
[42:36] Speaker 2: reason why I think the NFL has taken over this
[42:38] Speaker 2: country as far as a media product is concerned. Part
[42:41] Speaker 2: of the reason is because of the value and exclusivity
[42:46] Speaker 2: and the event to eventization of every Sunday, every Monday,
[42:50] Speaker 2: every Thursday. I know we got a long way to go,
[42:53] Speaker 2: but we add 16 to 17. They talk about an
[42:56] Speaker 2: 18 now. We got Christmas. We got all the holidays.
[43:01] Speaker 2: They got some shit on Netflix. They got it on
[43:03] Speaker 2: Hulu and Peacock. And now they want to take Thanksgiving Eve,
[43:07] Speaker 2: which ain't even a thing. I ain't never heard nobody
[43:10] Speaker 2: say Thanksgiving Eve before in my life. But yeah, it's
[43:14] Speaker 2: hard to argue with the finances of it. This is
[43:17] Speaker 2: about the transition that happens for many great art forms
[43:23] Speaker 2: from art to capitalism. Not that this hasn't been deeply
[43:27] Speaker 2: enmeshed in the capitalism in a long time, but it
[43:29] Speaker 2: does feel like the more you just sell, sell, sell,
[43:34] Speaker 2: the cheaper it all becomes.
[43:36] Speaker 1: Yeah, my issue is it's a Wednesday night game. You
[43:40] Speaker 1: mentioned the NBA. I think a mistake, at least to me,
[43:45] Speaker 1: it seems like a mistake the NFL is making. They
[43:47] Speaker 1: don't feel like it matters. But the difference between the
[43:51] Speaker 1: NFL and the NBA is that the NBA is a
[43:53] Speaker 1: player's league. And the NFL is not. The NFL is
[43:55] Speaker 1: a franchise league. It is a brand league. But the
[43:58] Speaker 1: players at some point do matter. And what we've seen
[44:01] Speaker 1: with the NBA as a result of the style of
[44:03] Speaker 1: change is the changes of style of play is that
[44:07] Speaker 1: the players physically cannot withstand it.
[44:09] Speaker 4: Right. Right.
[44:10] Speaker 1: Like we are seeing their bodies break down and therefore
[44:12] Speaker 1: we see less of them and we complain about it
[44:14] Speaker 1: when they try to do the things to protect or
[44:16] Speaker 1: anything else. NFL ain't a game that allow for no
[44:18] Speaker 1: low management.
[44:19] Speaker 2: Right.
[44:19] Speaker 1: The stakes are too high. The margins are too thin.
[44:23] Speaker 1: You cannot do that. But all these things they're doing
[44:26] Speaker 1: with the games are just making it more and more
[44:28] Speaker 1: likely to people get hurt. And we've had those stretches
[44:30] Speaker 1: during this season when you get down and it's the
[44:32] Speaker 1: bye weeks and it's not that many teams playing. And
[44:35] Speaker 1: then you start looking around and these cats just aren't
[44:37] Speaker 1: out there. Like there are stretches of the NFL schedule,
[44:40] Speaker 1: like really. And it's really around this time of Thanksgiving
[44:44] Speaker 1: when you start putting these games and all these different
[44:46] Speaker 1: days and what they start diluting and where I think
[44:49] Speaker 1: they're making a strategic mistake when they do this. What
[44:51] Speaker 1: they are diluting is the day Sunday. Yeah. Like, what
[44:56] Speaker 1: makes y'all shit so much different than everything else is
[44:58] Speaker 1: y'all got this whole day that's loaded with stuff. And instead,
[45:03] Speaker 1: you put a little bit here, you put a little
[45:05] Speaker 1: bit there. It's like Major League Baseball. And I think
[45:07] Speaker 1: NFL is going to do this, too, where opening day
[45:09] Speaker 1: is not opening day because you started your season in
[45:11] Speaker 1: Japan two weeks early, right? And you start diluting the– like,
[45:15] Speaker 1: opening day of baseball used to be a thing– that
[45:17] Speaker 1: I cannot explain to people what it is now because
[45:19] Speaker 1: they diluted it so far. So if I'm the NFL,
[45:23] Speaker 1: I get that you can get a little more bread
[45:24] Speaker 1: by doing this, but I would be trying to figure
[45:26] Speaker 1: out how do we protect the sanctity of Sunday? And
[45:30] Speaker 1: to me, that's not what they're doing here unless they're
[45:32] Speaker 1: going to put bums in that game.
[45:34] Speaker 4: Yeah.
[45:34] Speaker 2: I mean, I think that I agree with you. And
[45:38] Speaker 2: the quarterbacks being healthy matters more than anyone else. Like
[45:41] Speaker 2: it's rough when they do those promos and it's TJ
[45:44] Speaker 2: Watt and Miles Garrett. showing up on a Thursday night game.
[45:47] Speaker 2: Like it's a much harder game to sell. The problem
[45:50] Speaker 2: is they still get numbers that dwarf any other thing
[45:54] Speaker 2: that is on TV. So like, there's nothing about, they
[45:57] Speaker 2: have so much breathing room considering that the NBA numbers
[46:02] Speaker 2: get them an absurd number from TV networks. They have
[46:06] Speaker 2: so much breathing room that they're not feeling the pain
[46:08] Speaker 2: of this. And I think that the argument that I
[46:10] Speaker 2: would make if I were them for why this doesn't
[46:13] Speaker 2: change Sunday is, is there's something different about the one-off games.
[46:17] Speaker 2: The one-off games don't change the fact that Sunday is
[46:22] Speaker 2: a deluge, and that's the fun part, right? That's the
[46:26] Speaker 2: event part of it, is that, like, yeah, you get
[46:28] Speaker 2: one game on Thursday, you get one on Monday, we
[46:30] Speaker 2: might give you one on Christmas, we might give you
[46:32] Speaker 2: one on Thanksgiving Eve, but you know when you're going
[46:37] Speaker 2: to get, when you're going to drown in football? Every Sunday.
[46:41] Speaker 1: Yeah, I guess that's it, man. But this is, It's
[46:45] Speaker 1: the Mark Cuban, you know, hogs get slaughtered. But that
[46:49] Speaker 1: was 10 years ago. It looked kind of shaky 10
[46:52] Speaker 1: years ago.
[46:54] Speaker 2: It did. Honestly, I'm not sure. I think the big
[46:59] Speaker 2: risk for the NFL, as crazy as this sounds, is
[47:02] Speaker 2: not all these little things that we're thinking about. The
[47:04] Speaker 2: big risk for the NFL is that they become so
[47:09] Speaker 2: expensive that they reduce the amount of buyers that are
[47:13] Speaker 2: in the market. And they lose their leverage because what
[47:18] Speaker 2: they are selling only, only three companies can afford, which
[47:23] Speaker 2: I guess maybe that's why they chop it up.
[47:25] Speaker 1: That is something I had not considered until you just
[47:27] Speaker 1: said it, that I think is very important, which is
[47:29] Speaker 1: with all this media consolidation, man, it's only about to
[47:31] Speaker 1: be three people out here.
[47:33] Speaker 2: And so no matter how, like imagine a concept that,
[47:37] Speaker 2: so here's a good idea. Let's say, let's use the
[47:40] Speaker 2: analogy of the NFL selling diamonds, right? That's awesome. If
[47:47] Speaker 2: you live in a neighborhood where everybody got money and
[47:51] Speaker 2: want to buy diamonds, if the NFL is trying to
[47:55] Speaker 2: sell diamonds, but they on the corner, it don't matter
[48:02] Speaker 2: how beautiful your diamonds are if your customers don't got
[48:05] Speaker 2: the bread. And so they're going to get to a
[48:07] Speaker 2: point where, and I'm sure they're aware of this.
[48:11] Speaker 1: I don't know why you're so sure of that.
[48:14] Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm not sure. And with the media continuing like currently,
[48:18] Speaker 2: like media is being allowed to consolidate more and more.
[48:21] Speaker 2: It's like that is the real risk of the NFL
[48:24] Speaker 2: runs from like a business like strategy standpoint is they
[48:28] Speaker 2: have to find a way to make sure that there
[48:32] Speaker 2: are enough bidders in the market that aren't colluding in
[48:36] Speaker 2: any way. that can keep buying this shit as it
[48:39] Speaker 2: keeps going up. Because I don't think the value of
[48:41] Speaker 2: the property is going to go down before we end
[48:44] Speaker 2: up with two media companies that look at the NFL like,
[48:46] Speaker 2: all right, come over here for 30 bucks, go over
[48:49] Speaker 2: there for 31 bucks. That's all you got.
[48:52] Speaker 1: What a time, man. What a time. Also, in case
[48:56] Speaker 1: you guys didn't know, this is going to surprise you,
[48:58] Speaker 1: but Iran will not be participating in the World Cup.
[49:04] Speaker 1: Just in case you were In case you thought they
[49:07] Speaker 1: might show up as the plucky underdog.
[49:12] Speaker 2: The World Cup is in North America this year. Yes.
[49:15] Speaker 2: Which I think if you read the comments, hard to push.
[49:20] Speaker 2: back on what they said.
[49:20] Speaker 1: Yeah, let me ask you this, man. Can you imagine
[49:23] Speaker 1: what would happen if somehow Iran came over here and
[49:25] Speaker 1: they made it to the quarterfinals? Can you imagine if
[49:30] Speaker 1: it was like Iran in the United States playing in L.A.
[49:36] Speaker 2: Hold on. How we get to the quarters? If we
[49:42] Speaker 2: was in the same pool, I guess it's already the
[49:45] Speaker 2: groups have already been decided. But, yeah, if we ended
[49:48] Speaker 2: up in the quarters, like, that would be dramatic.
