[0:05] Speaker 1: Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the right time, a wave original.
[0:10] Speaker 1: My name is Beaumont Jones. Thanks for listening wherever you
[0:12] Speaker 1: get your podcast. Thanks for watching us on YouTube. Subscribe, like,
[0:15] Speaker 1: rate us, review us, give us five stars. If you
[0:18] Speaker 1: only give us four stars, I'm inclined to believe that
[0:20] Speaker 1: you are today's guest from the ringer tailgate and the
[0:23] Speaker 1: press box of the fastest 10-year-old in America, 1988, Joel Anderson.
[0:28] Speaker 1: What's going on, big dog?
[0:30] Speaker 2: Man, I'm glad to be here, man. How you doing?
[0:33] Speaker 1: Look at you accepting the reality of the situation.
[0:37] Speaker 3: I'm not going to be abated. So I got two things.
[0:42] Speaker 3: I'm trying to figure out the direction I want to
[0:44] Speaker 3: go right now.
[0:46] Speaker 1: You got to figure out how you want to be
[0:48] Speaker 1: a hater.
[0:48] Speaker 3: Yeah, well, I'm just trying to figure out what kind
[0:51] Speaker 3: of show I want to have today, man.
[0:53] Speaker 1: Pick one.
[0:56] Speaker 3: I came in here actually empathetic for you, man. I
[0:59] Speaker 3: was thinking about Bomani when he was like 21, 22
[1:03] Speaker 3: years old, and he really wanted to go see one
[1:07] Speaker 3: of his favorite artists, James Brown. James Brown's in town, man.
[1:10] Speaker 3: He's really looking forward to going. He had nobody on
[1:13] Speaker 3: his roster, so he couldn't go. He missed out, and
[1:17] Speaker 3: then James Brown didn't live to make it too much longer,
[1:20] Speaker 3: and he never got to see James Brown. It's just
[1:22] Speaker 3: sad that you didn't have nobody you could take.
[1:25] Speaker 2: To the James Brown show, man.
[1:28] Speaker 1: What are you talking about?
[1:29] Speaker 2: Yeah, man, you tweeted it the other day.
[1:31] Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah. No, I said I didn't know nobody wanted
[1:33] Speaker 1: to roll with me. That was a little less about
[1:35] Speaker 1: the roster than going to see James Brown. It's just like,
[1:38] Speaker 1: anybody want to go see James Brown? That was wild.
[1:42] Speaker 2: It was just sad. I just felt sad that you
[1:44] Speaker 2: didn't have nobody to want to go with you.
[1:46] Speaker 1: Let me tell you how dedicated this motherfucker is to
[1:48] Speaker 1: being a hater. You realize what a stretch and how
[1:51] Speaker 1: difficult it was?
[1:52] Speaker 2: That's not a stretch. No, no, no.
[1:53] Speaker 1: Do you realize how difficult it was to try to
[1:54] Speaker 1: turn that story around? about something literally over half my
[1:59] Speaker 1: life i.
[1:59] Speaker 3: Was just thinking about sometimes that's a part of life
[2:02] Speaker 3: you just i'm just like man as you know i
[2:05] Speaker 3: was thinking about the missed opportunities and you know you being.
[2:08] Speaker 1: Well if i was but if i was living like
[2:10] Speaker 1: you was living when i was living like you was
[2:12] Speaker 1: living when you was in oklahoma you'd have had somebody
[2:14] Speaker 1: to roll with you to the james brown concert who
[2:16] Speaker 1: you know might even look like she married james brown.
[2:21] Speaker 2: All right, so I also want to say something about it.
[2:25] Speaker 1: You might want to go to the happy places.
[2:27] Speaker 3: I was just going to say also, I was going
[2:29] Speaker 3: to say, man, are you cheating?
[2:33] Speaker 2: Are you cheating?
[2:34] Speaker 1: Uh-uh.
[2:35] Speaker 2: You're not cheating?
[2:36] Speaker 1: Uh-uh.
[2:39] Speaker 2: You sure?
[2:42] Speaker 1: You're 0 for 2, Joel.
[2:43] Speaker 2: You're 0 for 2. All right.
[2:45] Speaker 3: Well, I mean, you don't get to decide. The people
[2:49] Speaker 3: will decide, not you. But anyway, it's just sad that
[2:53] Speaker 3: I have to come here, coming up with material to
[2:56] Speaker 3: kind of keep you off of me because I just
[2:57] Speaker 3: know how else you were going to be.
[2:59] Speaker 2: You didn't even, I mean, my name.
[3:02] Speaker 1: That material is not keeping me off of you. That
[3:05] Speaker 1: material is telling everybody how correct I am. But rather
[3:10] Speaker 1: than talking to my good friend, who simply is a hater,
[3:14] Speaker 1: let's talk about somebody that I actually fucking hate. man
[3:18] Speaker 1: right like like like it's okay i need to stop
[3:21] Speaker 1: saying that i hate this dude because i don't know
[3:22] Speaker 1: him and it's lane kiffin and i was gonna say
[3:24] Speaker 1: i've never spoken to lane kiffin but i have spoken
[3:27] Speaker 1: with lane kiffin before because we had lane kiffin on
[3:30] Speaker 1: hq that same year he got fired on the tarmac
[3:33] Speaker 1: we had him because because we used to get like
[3:36] Speaker 1: the the coaches from all the conferences used to go
[3:39] Speaker 1: up to bristol and they would do the car wash
[3:40] Speaker 1: and they would go through and do all the shows
[3:42] Speaker 1: And so the Pac-10 coaches up there one day, they'd
[3:44] Speaker 1: all pull up in their polos. You know what I'm saying?
[3:47] Speaker 1: And so Lane Kiffin comes on and we do the
[3:49] Speaker 1: interview with that jerk. And then we get to the
[3:53] Speaker 1: place where it's time to, you know, for Poppy to
[3:55] Speaker 1: ask a question. And so we reset and I forget
[3:58] Speaker 1: what question Poppy asked, but you know, Poppy has this
[4:01] Speaker 1: very thick accent and he asked the question and Lane
[4:03] Speaker 1: Kiffin stops and goes, Hey, speak English.
[4:08] Speaker 2: Oh my God.
[4:10] Speaker 1: Yes. So anyway, I have spoken to Lane Kiffin, and
[4:14] Speaker 1: that is what happened. Wow. Yeah. Anyway, now Lane Kiffin
[4:19] Speaker 1: coach at Ole Miss. At least I think he'll still
[4:21] Speaker 1: be coaching at Ole Miss by the time you guys
[4:23] Speaker 1: hear this. They say they're going to make an announcement
[4:26] Speaker 1: after the Egg Bowl about what's going to happen with
[4:28] Speaker 1: Lane Kiffin's future. And the only thing that I can
[4:30] Speaker 1: conclude thus far is Lane Kiffin just messy, right? That's
[4:35] Speaker 1: the only way to put this. He's just messy. We
[4:37] Speaker 1: got this word out. that LSU has said they're going
[4:41] Speaker 1: to offer $ 25 million to NIL on top of a
[4:43] Speaker 1: $ 90 million contract, which is the kind of thing that
[4:46] Speaker 1: your agent puts out there to tell Florida that they
[4:49] Speaker 1: own the clock, because this is exactly what Trace Armstrong
[4:52] Speaker 1: did with Tom Herman in 2016. With LSU as the
[4:55] Speaker 1: bait to get the number up, you know, to get Texas,
[4:58] Speaker 1: they weren't even about to get the number up. It
[5:00] Speaker 1: was hurry up and fire Charlie Strong because y'all ain't
[5:02] Speaker 1: even did that yet, right? But this is the game
[5:05] Speaker 1: that gets played. And so, Either Lane goes to Florida
[5:09] Speaker 1: or Lane goes to LSU or Lane stays at Ole Miss.
[5:13] Speaker 1: To me, the messiest thing that his little messy ass
[5:16] Speaker 1: could ever do was go to LSU because of how
[5:20] Speaker 1: messy LSU is as a top-to-bottom situation. Like, he's a
[5:24] Speaker 1: fool if anything is at all close and he chooses
[5:28] Speaker 1: to walk into the madness that is LSU in this moment.
[5:33] Speaker 3: Man, you know, first of all, for a second, is
[5:37] Speaker 3: that Situation that you described on the Levitard show, man.
[5:42] Speaker 2: What was it called?
[5:43] Speaker 1: Highly questionable.
[5:44] Speaker 2: Highly questionable. Yeah, okay. My bad. It was highly questionable
[5:47] Speaker 2: with Dan Levitard, you know. But anyway.
[5:51] Speaker 1: Hey, what? What are you doing?
[5:53] Speaker 2: Okay, just slow down. Let me just make the point here, okay?
[5:57] Speaker 1: Let me slow down. I'll ask you, what were you doing?
[5:59] Speaker 1: And now you're telling me to slow down. You need
[6:01] Speaker 1: to slow down.
[6:01] Speaker 3: Wow.
[6:02] Speaker 1: Wow.
[6:03] Speaker 2: I was thinking of the Ta-Nehisi clip when they replayed.
[6:07] Speaker 1: Wow, that's really racist.
[6:08] Speaker 3: That's really racist. Yeah, that's going through my head. I
[6:10] Speaker 3: was like, wow, that's really racist.
[6:13] Speaker 1: I was hot.
[6:14] Speaker 2: Did y'all run that?
[6:15] Speaker 1: Y'all didn't run that. Yes, we did. Yes, we did.
[6:17] Speaker 2: Oh my God.
[6:17] Speaker 1: I don't remember that. Yeah, we ran that. And it
[6:19] Speaker 1: was one of those things where like, like, I guess
[6:22] Speaker 1: this happened to white people sometimes when people say some
[6:24] Speaker 1: wild shit to black people and the black person be like,
[6:26] Speaker 1: oh man, that happens every day, dog. Dan seemed to
[6:29] Speaker 1: take it in stride.
[6:30] Speaker 2: And I was like, Yeah.
[6:32] Speaker 1: You know, like, I'm new here. You know what I'm saying?
[6:34] Speaker 1: I'm about ready to ride for the homie in this moment.
[6:37] Speaker 2: Yeah.
[6:38] Speaker 3: I just, anyway. Oh, man. Well, no wonder you feel
[6:42] Speaker 3: that way about him. I mean, he's not a likable person.
[6:44] Speaker 1: No, no, no, no, no. That's on the list. Part
[6:48] Speaker 1: and parcel. I feel this way about him because he's him.
[6:52] Speaker 1: I hate the way that he walked, the way that
[6:54] Speaker 1: he talked. I hate everything about Lane Kiffin.
[6:59] Speaker 3: It's kind of crazy because, man, the thing is, if
[7:01] Speaker 3: he could stay at Ole Miss and you can just
[7:02] Speaker 3: kind of keep the hate distilled in one place. I
[7:04] Speaker 3: don't have to read a sheet. I don't hate LSU.
[7:10] Speaker 1: Right now, I don't hate LSU. I don't hate Florida, right?
[7:13] Speaker 2: Right.
[7:15] Speaker 1: So before we get back to late, Kevin, I want
[7:16] Speaker 1: to talk about this part right fast because you're a
[7:19] Speaker 1: great person to talk about this with. And I don't
[7:20] Speaker 1: know if you saw this, but Stephen A made the
[7:23] Speaker 1: point on first take that– I saw this. the brothers
[7:26] Speaker 1: don't want to go play in Oxford, Mississippi, that they
[7:30] Speaker 1: would rather go to Baton Rouge or they would rather
[7:33] Speaker 1: go to Gainesville. Paul Feinbaum took offense to that with
[7:37] Speaker 1: the whole, you know, the South is different argument and
[7:40] Speaker 1: so forth and so on. Raul, I will say this.
[7:42] Speaker 1: Have you ever been to Oxford?
[7:45] Speaker 2: I've been through it. I've not stayed very long. Okay.
[7:48] Speaker 1: So I have not been to Oxford.
[7:49] Speaker 2: Okay.
[7:50] Speaker 1: But Oxford, as I am told, is not so bad.
[7:55] Speaker 2: Yeah.
[7:56] Speaker 1: Right, like Oxford, the town. Stephen A. putting that in
[7:59] Speaker 1: the context of the town, right? It's kind of like,
[8:03] Speaker 1: but for white people, like white people in like Baton Rouge,
[8:05] Speaker 1: looking at Baton Rouge, kind of like, yuck. But young
[8:08] Speaker 1: black person. Yeah. Baton Rouge sounds right on top. I
[8:13] Speaker 1: got this right here. I got that over there on
[8:16] Speaker 1: the other side of town. Oh, okay. So I got
[8:19] Speaker 1: Southern and I got LSU.
[8:20] Speaker 2: And New Orleans ain't that far away.
[8:22] Speaker 1: Right, right, right, right, right, right, right, right, right. Yeah.
[8:25] Speaker 1: I could understand somebody making the argument that Oxford is
[8:28] Speaker 1: a place they would rather be than Baton Rouge, or
[8:32] Speaker 1: saying that they don't believe that Oxford is a town,
[8:34] Speaker 1: racially speaking, is necessarily that much different, like in terms
[8:37] Speaker 1: of animus or whatever, than Baton Rouge. I would get
[8:40] Speaker 1: that point. However, I think what Stephen A. was saying
[8:43] Speaker 1: is reflective of men of a certain age, and I
[8:46] Speaker 1: would say in this category, while Stephen A. is older
[8:49] Speaker 1: than you or I, we are men of the same age,
[8:52] Speaker 1: and that's the age that remembers. Oh, right. That's the
[8:55] Speaker 1: age that remember that there's no circumstance under which I would.
[8:59] Speaker 1: You're not going to fool me. You know what I mean? Like, right.
[9:02] Speaker 1: There's no circumstance under which I would ever, if I
[9:04] Speaker 1: was a father, approve of my kid going to play
[9:09] Speaker 1: at Ole Miss.
[9:10] Speaker 2: Right.
[9:10] Speaker 1: As long as they insist upon being called Ole Miss. Right.
[9:13] Speaker 1: There's no way that that would ever happen. There's no
[9:17] Speaker 1: way that I would ever go for that.
[9:19] Speaker 3: I could understand if people disputed whether or not this
[9:22] Speaker 3: was a generational thing, because I do wonder how Black
[9:27] Speaker 3: kids growing up in this generation feel about Ole Miss,
[9:29] Speaker 3: because they weren't confronted with the signs that we saw.
[9:32] Speaker 3: The first thing that I remember about an Ole Miss
[9:35] Speaker 3: game was seeing Confederate flags flying in the stands.
[9:37] Speaker 1: And how wild it is that they would even put
[9:39] Speaker 1: that on TV.
[9:40] Speaker 3: Yeah, man, that was a big part of the pageantry
[9:43] Speaker 3: of the stadium in those days, right?
[9:44] Speaker 2: And I mean, just from the colors.
[9:47] Speaker 3: to the iconography, to the mascot itself, it is a
[9:51] Speaker 3: real hard sell for Black people of a certain age.
[9:54] Speaker 3: And those people are parents now. Parents and young grandparents.
[9:59] Speaker 3: And so when their kids are going to school there,
[10:01] Speaker 3: there probably are those people are saying, Hey man, you
[10:03] Speaker 3: sure that's something you really want to do.
[10:05] Speaker 1: And schools have to deal with that long legacy. Like
[10:09] Speaker 1: the back and forth that we have about Texas football
[10:11] Speaker 1: is in line with this, right? That if you are
[10:14] Speaker 1: of a certain range and differences, like I say, My
[10:17] Speaker 1: people did not grow up in Texas. Yours did, right? So, like,
[10:20] Speaker 1: that means something different in that regard. But for those
[10:23] Speaker 1: people who are of a certain age, University of Texas
[10:26] Speaker 1: is not a place. It took a long time for
[10:28] Speaker 1: them to overcome that. And as bad as Texas was
[10:30] Speaker 1: on race, they might as well have been goddamn University
[10:33] Speaker 1: of Houston compared to being Ole Miss, right?
[10:37] Speaker 3: Yeah, because the funny thing about it is that Texas,
[10:39] Speaker 3: in terms of, like, policy or whatever, it may actually
[10:41] Speaker 3: have been a little bit worse because they're the ones
[10:43] Speaker 3: that came up with the LSAT.
[10:44] Speaker 2: Like, they're the ones. Right. You know, they came away
[10:46] Speaker 2: and they were the.
[10:47] Speaker 3: I mean, again, I mean, this is sort of a
[10:49] Speaker 3: victim of circumstance, but they had the last all white
[10:51] Speaker 3: national champion in college football.
[10:53] Speaker 2: Right.
[10:54] Speaker 3: But I mean, I don't think it was probably the
[10:56] Speaker 3: most racist place. But the thing about Ole Miss is
[10:58] Speaker 3: not only that it have that legacy of segregation.
[11:02] Speaker 2: In the fight over desegregation, but they just held on
[11:04] Speaker 2: to the fight for so long.
[11:06] Speaker 1: Into the 21st century.
[11:09] Speaker 3: That even Tommy Tuberville had to tell them, can you
[11:12] Speaker 3: guys please put those flags down because it is hard
[11:14] Speaker 3: to get people here.
[11:15] Speaker 2: It is hard to recruit here.
[11:17] Speaker 1: They had to trick them into getting rid of the flags.
[11:20] Speaker 1: And for people who don't know, the only reason they
[11:23] Speaker 1: stopped waving those Confederate flags, and it wasn't really big
[11:26] Speaker 1: Confederate flags, it was little ones. And what they outlawed
[11:30] Speaker 1: were the sticks.
[11:31] Speaker 2: Yep.
[11:32] Speaker 1: And they deemed that the sticks were a safety hazard.
[11:36] Speaker 1: And that's how they were able to get people to
[11:37] Speaker 1: stop waving the Confederate flag at games. But this is
[11:41] Speaker 1: the part where I feel like people are dishonest and
[11:43] Speaker 1: disingenuous on this matter. So why do you think Ole
[11:47] Speaker 1: Miss isn't as good as the schools around them? You
[11:50] Speaker 1: see what I'm saying? Like, because look, on its face,
[11:53] Speaker 1: Florida obviously is a great job. But Florida is a
[11:57] Speaker 1: weird job because Florida is really three states in one.
[12:02] Speaker 1: North Florida, Central Florida, and South Florida. you still have
[12:06] Speaker 1: to recruit nationally to win at Florida, right? LSU even,
[12:11] Speaker 1: you still have to recruit nationally to get it done.
[12:12] Speaker 1: But with Florida, Florida has the advantage of being in
[12:15] Speaker 1: the middle where like in Miami, for example, Miami and Tallahassee,
[12:18] Speaker 1: that's not a drive. No, not at all. It's like
[12:21] Speaker 1: six hours, but like it's- You wouldn't want to do it. Yeah,
[12:24] Speaker 1: they're in totally different places. You're not going to have
[12:25] Speaker 1: that much luck getting North Florida kids to come down
[12:28] Speaker 1: to play at Miami and vice versa, right? I mean,
[12:31] Speaker 1: there are obviously examples like Devontae Freeman and Dalvin Cook,
[12:34] Speaker 1: going from Miami to Florida State. But you get what
[12:35] Speaker 1: I'm saying is that it's geographically a funny, you're not
[12:39] Speaker 1: just getting every player you want out of the state
[12:41] Speaker 1: of Florida. Absolutely. Just to go to the University of Florida.
[12:43] Speaker 1: It's not really how it works. Ole Miss, you got
[12:46] Speaker 1: access to Memphis, right? Mississippi has a lot of football players.
[12:52] Speaker 2: Isn't it shocking?
[12:53] Speaker 3: Were you shocked at how close Memphis is to Ole Miss?
[12:55] Speaker 1: 45 minutes away.
[12:57] Speaker 3: I'm thinking it makes it even worse in my eyes
[13:00] Speaker 3: because I'm like, oh, they've always been close to Memphis.
[13:03] Speaker 3: They could have been able to tap into that, but
[13:05] Speaker 3: why do they think they've not been able to tap
[13:06] Speaker 3: into Memphis all these years?
[13:07] Speaker 1: Well, it's so funny. No, they know why they have it.
[13:09] Speaker 1: First of all, they weren't trying that hard.
[13:11] Speaker 2: Yeah, right.
[13:12] Speaker 1: Somebody once made the point to me about the state
[13:14] Speaker 1: of Mississippi that The greatest running back in the history
[13:17] Speaker 1: of the state of Mississippi. Probably the second– I'm going
[13:22] Speaker 1: to say the greatest quarterback in the history of the
[13:24] Speaker 1: state of Mississippi and the second greatest quarterback in the
[13:26] Speaker 1: history of the state of Mississippi and the greatest wide
[13:28] Speaker 1: receiver in the history of the state of Mississippi. None
[13:33] Speaker 1: of them went to Ole Miss or Mississippi State. And
[13:35] Speaker 1: I am talking about Walter Payton, Brett Favre, Steve McNair–
[13:41] Speaker 1: And Jerry Rice.
[13:42] Speaker 2: Yeah, man.
[13:42] Speaker 1: Now, I've been told that Jerry Rice got an offer
[13:45] Speaker 1: from Mississippi State, but they were running the bone. I'm
[13:48] Speaker 1: not exactly sure. I think Emory Ballard was coaching then,
[13:50] Speaker 1: so I'm not exactly sure. But none of those other
[13:52] Speaker 1: guys got offers from the big schools. Ole Miss was
[13:55] Speaker 1: so racist that you didn't offer Walter Payton.
[13:58] Speaker 3: I mean, isn't it still not true that Jackson State
[14:01] Speaker 3: has more Hall of Famers than Ole Miss and Mississippi
[14:04] Speaker 3: State combined?
[14:05] Speaker 2: Yeah.
[14:05] Speaker 1: It's got to be because they got five.
[14:06] Speaker 3: Yeah, right. So I was like, I mean, if you
[14:08] Speaker 3: just want to know, like, for those people, that's also
[14:11] Speaker 3: the thing.
[14:12] Speaker 1: Hold on. I think Mississippi Valley might have more.
[14:16] Speaker 2: They might.
[14:16] Speaker 1: Because Mississippi Valley got two.
[14:19] Speaker 2: See? Yeah.
[14:20] Speaker 1: I mean. By the way, and the two are Deacon
[14:23] Speaker 1: Jones and Jerry Rice.
[14:27] Speaker 3: I mean, that's some, I mean, just think about, I mean,
[14:30] Speaker 3: things have really changed culturally in our country. But think
[14:33] Speaker 3: about how racist you are to have not gotten any,
[14:35] Speaker 3: gotten on any of those.
[14:37] Speaker 1: People, man. Think about how racist you are that Alabama
[14:43] Speaker 1: was like, nah, dog. Y'all better get with Dwayne. Right.
[14:47] Speaker 2: Yeah.
[14:48] Speaker 1: Yeah.
[14:48] Speaker 3: I was like, man, can y'all please cool out some
[14:51] Speaker 3: of that stuff? South Carolina got in line. a little
[14:54] Speaker 3: bit before Ole Miss on that front, right?
[14:56] Speaker 1: By the way, Ole Miss with Patrick Willis just got
[14:58] Speaker 1: their third. Okay. But they have three. One's name is
[15:02] Speaker 1: Bruiser Canard. I mean, all players that I assume, they
[15:06] Speaker 1: went in the Hall of Fame before, you know, the
[15:08] Speaker 1: New World Order came into effect. Deacon Jones, I think,
[15:12] Speaker 1: is like a dual. Like, he went to South Carolina
[15:15] Speaker 1: State and he went to Valley. I believe that's what
[15:18] Speaker 1: the story is with him. South Carolina State, by the way,
[15:21] Speaker 1: has four.
[15:22] Speaker 2: Damn.
[15:23] Speaker 1: Yeah. South Carolina State has four. Jackson State has four.
[15:28] Speaker 2: Four, right.
[15:29] Speaker 1: Grambling has, I want to say six. No, gross. I'm probably,
[15:33] Speaker 1: Grambling has four.
[15:35] Speaker 2: Grambling only has four.
[15:36] Speaker 1: Okay. I thought it was more than that, but Grambling
[15:38] Speaker 1: has four. Southern has three. Texas Southern has two. Mm-hmm.
[15:46] Speaker 1: We can go on and on on this. But anyway,
[15:48] Speaker 1: people are not honest about this when it comes to
[15:50] Speaker 1: Ole Miss. Stephen Goffrey had the line once. Basically, it
[15:53] Speaker 1: was something to the effect of, Ole Miss wonders why
[15:56] Speaker 1: it's not as good as Alabama, just like Texas wonders
[15:59] Speaker 1: why it's not as good as Oklahoma, as if the
[16:01] Speaker 1: answer isn't staring you directly in the face. Y'all was
[16:04] Speaker 1: late to the game. And so to me, Ole Miss
[16:08] Speaker 1: should not be a job that you feel like you
[16:11] Speaker 1: have to leave to go to LSU for. or Florida.
[16:15] Speaker 1: It shouldn't be.
[16:16] Speaker 2: Like, to me, if Lane really got- The blackest state
[16:18] Speaker 2: in the union.
[16:19] Speaker 1: Right, right. And look, now that the money in the
[16:22] Speaker 1: SEC is what it is, I do think that they
[16:24] Speaker 1: have a younger alumni base that's got some bread that
[16:28] Speaker 1: they can throw around. You're no longer fighting off, in
[16:32] Speaker 1: large part, what you and I have just been talking
[16:34] Speaker 1: about in terms of historical legacy, except for the fact
[16:37] Speaker 1: that's the only reason why you wouldn't be as good.
[16:41] Speaker 1: You know what I mean? So I see why a
[16:43] Speaker 1: cat like Firebomb is sounding the way he does. For example,
[16:47] Speaker 1: Ole Miss has had a black quarterback in the last
[16:49] Speaker 1: 20 years, which I cannot say about Georgia.
[16:52] Speaker 2: Man, I guess since Shockley.
[16:55] Speaker 1: And look what it took for him to play.
[16:58] Speaker 2: Yeah, man.
[16:59] Speaker 1: Justin Fields couldn't get on the field.
[17:02] Speaker 2: Did DeJuan Mathis go there? Am I making that up?
[17:05] Speaker 2: Is DeJuan Mathis the kid that went to Georgia?
[17:08] Speaker 1: He did, but I have to say. I watched that
[17:10] Speaker 1: young man play. He was wild up. He was real
[17:18] Speaker 1: wild up. Like I understood what had gone down there.
[17:23] Speaker 1: But yeah, so Ole Miss is a weird, it's an
[17:26] Speaker 1: interesting discussion about Ole Miss, but Ole Miss should be
[17:29] Speaker 1: a job that's good enough to stay at. Like you've
[17:31] Speaker 1: demonstrated that you can win a living, you've demonstrated that
[17:34] Speaker 1: right now you can win 11 games at Ole Miss.
[17:37] Speaker 1: You've shown that. You should not have to leave that
[17:40] Speaker 1: to go to LSU or to Florida, neither of which
[17:44] Speaker 1: I would argue in the last five years has been
[17:46] Speaker 1: as good as Ole Miss.
[17:47] Speaker 2: No, not really. No.
[17:48] Speaker 1: Right? And look, and I also say this about Lane.
[17:50] Speaker 1: I think Lane's overrated. I think that we still treat
[17:53] Speaker 1: Lane like he's a child, like he's not 50 years old,
[17:56] Speaker 1: like Lane just needs to turn the corner. How many
[17:58] Speaker 1: chances is Lane going to get? He's had so many
[18:02] Speaker 1: good jobs. Whichever one of these jobs that Lane gets
[18:05] Speaker 1: will be the third best job that he's ever had. Damn.
[18:08] Speaker 2: That's right, because he had USC and he had.
[18:11] Speaker 1: The Oakland Raiders. Yeah. By the way, Al Davis was
[18:15] Speaker 1: right about that boy.
[18:16] Speaker 2: Yeah, that's true.
[18:18] Speaker 1: He's an embarrassment. He had Tennessee. Tennessee was a good job.
[18:22] Speaker 1: And he embarrassed them. And he embarrassed them just like
[18:24] Speaker 1: Al said he would. Embarrassed USC so bad, they fired
[18:27] Speaker 1: him on the sideline. Well, they made the decision on
[18:31] Speaker 1: the sideline. They fired him on the tarmac.
[18:34] Speaker 3: See, man, you really be driving in with the tarmac
[18:38] Speaker 3: shit because you love to talk about how you got.
[18:39] Speaker 2: Fired on the tarmac. I love it. I love it.
[18:43] Speaker 1: I love it. Well, you have to remember, and for
[18:45] Speaker 1: those who don't know, in the year 2013, they're standing
[18:49] Speaker 1: on the side, like they are getting boat raced by
[18:53] Speaker 1: Arizona State. I want to say they gave up something
[18:56] Speaker 1: like 600 yards. They may have given up like 60 points.
[18:58] Speaker 1: Like it was, it was really bad. And so as
[19:00] Speaker 1: the game is going on, they're showing these clips of
[19:03] Speaker 1: the athletic director on the sideline, huddling up with somebody.
[19:07] Speaker 1: And it's like, Hey guys, I think he's going to
[19:10] Speaker 1: get fired after this game.
[19:12] Speaker 2: It stops today.
[19:13] Speaker 1: It stops now. It stops now.
[19:16] Speaker 2: It stops now.
[19:19] Speaker 1: But they didn't even wait till the next day. They
[19:22] Speaker 1: fired him. The plane landed and they fired him right
[19:27] Speaker 1: then and there. He has also gotten fired preparing for
[19:31] Speaker 1: a bowl game. Not just any bowl game. The national
[19:34] Speaker 1: championship game. Because Nick Saban felt like this guy was
[19:37] Speaker 1: acting like too much of a clown. and not preparing
[19:40] Speaker 1: for the game and focused on his next job. And
[19:43] Speaker 1: fired him.
[19:43] Speaker 3: How much of this is you bringing up old shit? Because,
[19:47] Speaker 3: I mean, look, man, I'm just going to... gonna be
[19:50] Speaker 3: open to the idea that i don't think lane kiffin
[19:53] Speaker 3: is an elite coach right but i do think there
[19:56] Speaker 3: is an argument to be made that it was really
[19:58] Speaker 3: tough to win at fau he seems to be the
[20:01] Speaker 3: only person that has done that in recent memory Ole Miss,
[20:06] Speaker 3: for whatever people say about it now, nobody thought about
[20:08] Speaker 3: it the way that they think about it right now
[20:10] Speaker 3: before he got there. He's shown proof of concept. Those
[20:12] Speaker 3: are places that are not really easy to win. But
[20:15] Speaker 3: I also think that he's gotten some breaks in those places.
[20:19] Speaker 3: He got the tail end of Alabama. LSU has not
[20:23] Speaker 3: been operating the way that it should be operating. Arkansas
[20:26] Speaker 3: is not really a threat to them. So you know,
[20:29] Speaker 3: he had an opportunity to feast in a way that
[20:32] Speaker 3: a lot of other guys aren't. And then now he's
[20:33] Speaker 3: going to have to compete against Texas and Oklahoma and
[20:36] Speaker 3: Georgia is good now. So I think that that job
[20:38] Speaker 3: is going to look in three years. If he's not there,
[20:41] Speaker 3: it's going to look a lot different. I think that
[20:42] Speaker 3: he could continue to be a nine to 10 win
[20:44] Speaker 3: year coach at Ole Miss to your point.
[20:47] Speaker 1: I don't know. Yeah.
[20:47] Speaker 3: I'm not sure if the lane thing works at LSU
[20:50] Speaker 3: for all the reasons you said, like LSU appears to
[20:53] Speaker 3: be a mess.
[20:54] Speaker 1: They just, and they just had a coach that people
[20:57] Speaker 1: don't like.
[20:57] Speaker 2: Right. Right. That's right. Right.
[21:00] Speaker 3: Well, I mean, that's the thing, because, you know, my
[21:02] Speaker 3: co-host Van is an LSU fan and he talks about,
[21:06] Speaker 3: you know, men win at LSU, not just coaches, men
[21:09] Speaker 3: win there. And I'm like, so what about Lane Kiffin
[21:13] Speaker 3: do you all like then? Like, does he fit the
[21:15] Speaker 3: archetype of the guy that you want to have as
[21:18] Speaker 3: the face of your program? I just don't feel like
[21:21] Speaker 3: I mean, to the extent that people worry about culture.
[21:23] Speaker 2: Fit, that's the thing. I'm like, does he really fit there?
[21:26] Speaker 3: Florida feels like it's in third place right now, but
[21:30] Speaker 3: it feels like that would be the best fit.
[21:31] Speaker 2: Yeah, it feels like that would be the best fit
[21:32] Speaker 2: for him.
[21:33] Speaker 1: Well, hold on. When did they get in third place?
[21:34] Speaker 1: Because when this all started, they were in first place.
[21:38] Speaker 1: He is the spiritual successor to Steve Spurrier. And I
[21:42] Speaker 1: do think, though, that this is something that is important,
[21:45] Speaker 1: that different places want different styles of play. Yes. And
[21:51] Speaker 1: simply winning is not enough, right? LSU, they want to
[21:55] Speaker 1: run the ball. They don't necessarily want to run the
[21:58] Speaker 1: ball every play. Like, obviously, they were pretty happy with
[22:01] Speaker 1: Jordan Jefferson, Justin Jefferson, Jamar Chase and Joe Burrow, right? Right.
[22:07] Speaker 2: But it got to look like that.
[22:08] Speaker 1: But they want to run the ball. They had a
[22:09] Speaker 1: first-round pick at running back. Like, they want to run
[22:12] Speaker 1: the ball, right?
[22:12] Speaker 2: Kevin Falk, Kendall Cleveland.
[22:14] Speaker 1: Yes.
[22:15] Speaker 2: Cecil Collins.
[22:16] Speaker 1: Cecil the Diesel.
[22:16] Speaker 2: Cecil the Diesel Collins.
[22:18] Speaker 1: Justin Vincent.
[22:19] Speaker 2: Yeah, Justin Vincent.
[22:20] Speaker 1: Yeah, bro. Don't kill you if you want to go back. Yeah, man.
[22:23] Speaker 3: They wanted Fournette, who is the quintessential LSU, you know,
[22:27] Speaker 3: running back, right?
[22:28] Speaker 2: Like, yeah, that's what they want.
[22:30] Speaker 1: They want to run the ball. Florida wants to play
[22:32] Speaker 1: Lane Kiffin football.
[22:34] Speaker 2: Yeah, man.
[22:34] Speaker 1: Lane Kiffin football with no Nick Saban to tell him
[22:37] Speaker 1: to run the ball can go off the rails at
[22:39] Speaker 1: LSU fast. The other thing is I don't feel like
[22:42] Speaker 1: Lane's demonstrated himself to be a guy that's going to
[22:44] Speaker 1: get the defense right. He might get the defense right,
[22:47] Speaker 1: but you're going to need to– you're going to need
[22:50] Speaker 1: to cut a big check and like hope that, and
[22:52] Speaker 1: too bad for them, Dave Aranda did not get fired, right?
[22:55] Speaker 1: Like hope that Dave Aranda gets fired and moves comfortably
[22:57] Speaker 1: into a world that I guess if it doesn't exist now,
[22:59] Speaker 1: will exist soon of the $ 6 million top flight defensive coordinator, right?
[23:04] Speaker 1: That gets to be head coach of the defense.
[23:06] Speaker 3: Allegedly, according to reporting, he's shown a willingness to have
[23:10] Speaker 3: Coach O on his staff, even if he go back
[23:12] Speaker 3: to LSU, allegedly.
[23:14] Speaker 1: Look, people think I'm joking. Ryan is tired of me
[23:18] Speaker 1: saying this. the best coach for LSU to hire, just
[23:22] Speaker 1: while y'all get this shit settled down and figured out,
[23:24] Speaker 1: without question, is Ed Ozeron.
[23:27] Speaker 2: You said just get them back in a room together.
[23:28] Speaker 2: It's like, hey, man, just look. They're going to be
[23:29] Speaker 2: over for the house.
[23:30] Speaker 1: Look, it's only going to be about three years, right? Like,
[23:33] Speaker 1: get Ed. Ed will get you the players that you want.
[23:37] Speaker 1: Ed will get it done, right? You got to give–
[23:40] Speaker 1: what happened to Ed was, and he's right about this,
[23:42] Speaker 1: Ed had the brain drain happen to him, right? Lost
[23:44] Speaker 1: Joe Brady, lost Dave Aranda, and, of course, Ed lost
[23:47] Speaker 1: his wife and was trying to holler at the ladies
[23:50] Speaker 1: at practice by bringing their sons in.
[23:52] Speaker 3: He told the old girl at the gas station, apparently,
[23:57] Speaker 3: what that got to do with me.
[23:58] Speaker 2: She said she was married.
[23:59] Speaker 1: He's like, what's up now? But his thing was not–
[24:03] Speaker 1: I talked to somebody. No, it was what it was.
[24:05] Speaker 1: What's that matter is what he said. And I talked
[24:08] Speaker 1: to somebody who made a very good point in defense
[24:09] Speaker 1: of Ed Ogeron on that. Ed Ogeron is such a
[24:12] Speaker 1: maniac that he really might have wanted to work out
[24:14] Speaker 1: with her. Like, it is possible. But he's like, maybe
[24:20] Speaker 1: he want to work out too. This is what it
[24:24] Speaker 1: could be. But you said... You said before the show
[24:28] Speaker 1: you had a defensive lane. Was that a little meager
[24:30] Speaker 1: bit that you just offered the defensive lane?
[24:32] Speaker 2: No, the defensive lane is that there's no good way
[24:34] Speaker 2: to do this.
[24:35] Speaker 3: And part of the problem is that the schools are
[24:38] Speaker 3: being extremely stupid by, and I was just thinking about this,
[24:42] Speaker 3: why are they firing their coaches so early in the year?
[24:44] Speaker 3: Because Florida falls apart now. Florida, the thing that I
[24:49] Speaker 3: always said about Billy Napier and that staff, I was like, man,
[24:51] Speaker 3: them boys play hard for him. They may not play well,
[24:53] Speaker 3: but they play hard. And it looks like they've just
[24:55] Speaker 3: kind of given up. And LSU last night was struggling
[24:58] Speaker 3: with Western Kentucky. They couldn't even put up 20 points
[25:02] Speaker 3: against Western Kentucky, man. So I'm like, why are they
[25:05] Speaker 3: firing coaches so early? Why are they punting on.
[25:08] Speaker 1: The year so early? But you know why they are.
[25:11] Speaker 1: It's early signing day. The early signing day was a useless,
[25:17] Speaker 1: terrible decision.
[25:18] Speaker 3: Yeah, because you're not going to be able to take
[25:19] Speaker 3: advantage of it anyway under these circumstances.
[25:23] Speaker 2: Right.
[25:25] Speaker 1: But you can't... We started seeing this move to these
[25:30] Speaker 1: early fires. That is when we saw it happen.
[25:32] Speaker 2: Who was it, like Willie Taggart? He was one of
[25:34] Speaker 2: the first I remember.
[25:35] Speaker 1: The Willie Taggart-Chad Morris year was a year of that.
[25:39] Speaker 1: But it got to be like... We need to be
[25:41] Speaker 1: able to start like clearing this out for whatever the
[25:44] Speaker 1: future is going to be on that. And I, I
[25:47] Speaker 1: agree with you that firing these coaches a month into
[25:49] Speaker 1: a football season is preposterous. Yeah.
[25:52] Speaker 3: You told the kids, you told the kids that the
[25:54] Speaker 3: season doesn't matter anymore. You've given up. What are they
[25:58] Speaker 3: supposed to think? Their coach isn't there anymore. They got
[26:00] Speaker 3: a substitute teacher for the rest of the year.
[26:03] Speaker 1: Yeah. And they're, they're not just doing it. They're doing
[26:05] Speaker 1: it and they don't even know where they're going to
[26:06] Speaker 1: get the money from.
[26:08] Speaker 3: Bro, they don't know where they're going to get the
[26:10] Speaker 3: money from. Okay, here's the thing. You fired Billy Napier,
[26:13] Speaker 3: and we've known you were going to follow Billy Napier
[26:15] Speaker 3: all this time. Why can't you be like Virginia Tech
[26:17] Speaker 3: and already have your coach.
[26:18] Speaker 2: By now then?
[26:19] Speaker 3: If it was going to be this anyway, like you
[26:21] Speaker 3: were going to be coming down to the stretch, and
[26:23] Speaker 3: if that guy turns you down, you're going to have
[26:25] Speaker 3: to go to plan B.
[26:26] Speaker 1: Why didn't you just wait? But to be fair, Virginia
[26:29] Speaker 1: Tech did not think that they were going to be
[26:31] Speaker 1: lucky enough to see James Franklin get fired. And while
[26:34] Speaker 1: there are many legitimate criticisms of James Franklin to be made,
[26:39] Speaker 1: The difference between James Franklin and Lane Kiffin?
[26:45] Speaker 3: I would rather have James. I feel like James is
[26:48] Speaker 3: going to be straight no matter what.
[26:49] Speaker 1: Well, I will say this, though. There are more criticisms
[26:52] Speaker 1: of James Franklin as a game day coach than there
[26:55] Speaker 1: are of Lane Kiffin.
[26:56] Speaker 2: Yeah.
[26:56] Speaker 1: There are more criticisms of, and this is the big one,
[26:59] Speaker 1: James Franklin as a developer of quarterbacks or perhaps a
[27:03] Speaker 1: ruiner of quarterbacks, depending upon who you talk to. than
[27:07] Speaker 1: Lane Kiffin. Lane ain't ruling no quarterback. He may make
[27:09] Speaker 1: it a little bit too easy and you get fooled
[27:11] Speaker 1: by what you got there. But no, but they got
[27:13] Speaker 1: Virginia Tech relative to the weight class that they are in.
[27:17] Speaker 1: They made a great hire.
[27:19] Speaker 2: I mean, the program at Penn State was solid.
[27:22] Speaker 3: If the big thing is that they couldn't beat Ohio
[27:25] Speaker 3: State or they were throwing into the end zone in
[27:28] Speaker 3: the semifinals and didn't beat Notre Dame and that was,
[27:31] Speaker 3: you know, they didn't come up in the semifinals. What semifinals?
[27:37] Speaker 3: The college football semifinals.
[27:38] Speaker 1: The whole country semifinals. Yeah, the whole country. Yeah. Yeah,
[27:41] Speaker 1: the whole country. Yeah.
[27:43] Speaker 2: Bro, they could have played in the national championship game
[27:45] Speaker 2: last year.
[27:46] Speaker 3: They could have played. It was that close, right? And
[27:50] Speaker 3: I just, you know, Penn State, they fired James Franklin.
[27:56] Speaker 3: It all fell apart. I guess they, you know, like
[27:58] Speaker 3: you said on here, they were tired of him. They
[28:00] Speaker 3: didn't want to go on. They were ready to move on.
[28:02] Speaker 3: But okay, has it helped you? Like early signing day
[28:05] Speaker 3: is pretty soon here. Where's your guy?
[28:08] Speaker 2: Where's the guy that you had? If you're going to
[28:10] Speaker 2: fire James Franklin, you should, I mean, you should upgrade, right?
[28:15] Speaker 1: That's the thing, right? And I applaud the coaches that
[28:18] Speaker 1: looked around and said to them, like Baylor did with
[28:20] Speaker 1: Dave Aranda. They looked around and they're like, yeah, no,
[28:24] Speaker 1: not right now. Not right now. I mean, I think
[28:27] Speaker 1: North Carolina is ultimately going to punt the Belichick decision.
[28:29] Speaker 1: They're just going to make him get, what's his name,
[28:31] Speaker 1: out of there. Lombardi. Yeah, Lombardi just going to have
[28:35] Speaker 1: to get out of there. But, you know, it's some
[28:37] Speaker 1: other jobs where I think they've looked around. I don't
[28:39] Speaker 1: know if Florida State can afford to bring Norvell back
[28:42] Speaker 1: just because the milk done gone so bad. But they
[28:45] Speaker 1: ain't got the money, so they might not have a chance.
[28:47] Speaker 1: USC clearly is stuck on this.
[28:50] Speaker 2: Yeah, man.
[28:51] Speaker 1: I feel like that is a failed experiment.
[28:54] Speaker 3: I want to see Lincoln another year because he's going
[28:58] Speaker 3: to have the number one ranked recruiting class coming in.
[29:01] Speaker 3: It does seem like this is the year that you
[29:04] Speaker 3: can kind of see, okay, he finally has a defense.
[29:07] Speaker 3: If he can keep Danton Lynn, the defensive coordinator, and
[29:10] Speaker 3: they can build on that and they bring in that
[29:13] Speaker 3: number one ranked recruiting class, I.
[29:14] Speaker 2: Kind of feel like USC is in position. The only
[29:17] Speaker 2: game that they.
[29:18] Speaker 3: Lost this year that you really are like, why did
[29:20] Speaker 3: y'all lose that game, is Illinois. And the dynamics of it,
[29:24] Speaker 3: traveling early, playing out there, the travel and everything, I mean,
[29:27] Speaker 3: that's just going to be part of it. But I
[29:28] Speaker 3: feel like that wasn't, That's the game.
[29:31] Speaker 2: It's like, ah, damn. They would have been in the playoffs.
[29:33] Speaker 1: They're going to forever hate that. I mean, I guess
[29:36] Speaker 1: it was a decision that they had to make, but
[29:38] Speaker 1: that Big Ten... I think going to the, interestingly enough,
[29:43] Speaker 1: I think going to the Big Ten made Oregon somehow
[29:47] Speaker 1: a better looking job. Yeah. Made USC a worse looking job.
[29:52] Speaker 1: And I don't know what to say about Washington. You
[29:55] Speaker 1: know what I mean? Like, it's just a, and turn
[29:57] Speaker 1: UCLA into Northwestern. But I guess UCLA has kind of
[30:02] Speaker 1: been Northwestern for the last 30 years, but I don't,
[30:05] Speaker 1: I just don't. I think that argument about those flights
[30:08] Speaker 1: is real and there are more flights to be had
[30:11] Speaker 1: for them. than there are for other people. The problem is,
[30:13] Speaker 1: what Lincoln doesn't get is, ain't no time to whine, baby.
[30:17] Speaker 1: Ain't nobody trying to hear it. And they're sick of
[30:19] Speaker 1: his shit, but I think they're stuck with him for
[30:21] Speaker 1: another year.
[30:22] Speaker 2: I mean, I think they're stuck.
[30:24] Speaker 3: I mean, you may be right that that may not
[30:25] Speaker 3: be as great a fit as people thought, but I
[30:27] Speaker 3: feel like next year, it'll be really sort of the
[30:29] Speaker 3: pivot year for him. It's like, this is his Franklin year.
[30:31] Speaker 3: It's like, all right, you got your number one rank.
[30:33] Speaker 3: I think Maiava is a junior, too, so he'll get
[30:36] Speaker 3: to come back next year, too. I think they'll be okay.
[30:40] Speaker 2: I mean, I would say.
[30:42] Speaker 3: That move to the Big Ten, because it was like, well,
[30:45] Speaker 3: USC had the West Coast on lock, bro. And it's
[30:47] Speaker 3: just like, well, now that everybody's open out here, and
[30:49] Speaker 3: it's like, well, Oregon's got more money, the program, the
[30:52] Speaker 3: proof of concept. It's like, if it's all going to
[30:55] Speaker 3: be far away, I might as.
[30:55] Speaker 2: Well go up there, you know?
[30:57] Speaker 1: Yeah, and I think that's the other part, too, is that,
[30:59] Speaker 1: and this is the thing I felt when Texas A &
[31:03] Speaker 1: M went to the SEC and why it was so
[31:05] Speaker 1: bad for the Big 12. That just meant that Alabama
[31:08] Speaker 1: was coming in and getting Texas players. But Texas A &
[31:11] Speaker 1: M wouldn't get no Alabama players.
[31:13] Speaker 3: Right.
[31:13] Speaker 1: You know what I mean? Ole Miss was coming in
[31:15] Speaker 1: and getting Texas players because the door had been open.
[31:18] Speaker 2: Oh, they got that tackle out of Allen.
[31:20] Speaker 3: Remember the year that Hugh Freeze and them, they feasted
[31:23] Speaker 3: on dudes.
[31:24] Speaker 2: They feasted on cats out of Texas.
[31:25] Speaker 1: His final three, I want to say, were Ole Miss, LSU,
[31:28] Speaker 1: and Alabama. But that's the point I'm making is that
[31:32] Speaker 1: I think that California became more, and I need to
[31:34] Speaker 1: look at what's actually happening, but I would assume that
[31:36] Speaker 1: California got a lot more open to the Big Ten
[31:39] Speaker 1: in a way that Ohio didn't. did not get that
[31:41] Speaker 1: open to USC. But we're going to take a break
[31:44] Speaker 1: right fast. Coming up, we're going to talk a bit
[31:46] Speaker 1: more about the rivalry games coming up, one of which,
[31:49] Speaker 1: the one that Ryan Day probably should win. This show
[31:54] Speaker 1: is sponsored by BetterHelp. Shorter days don't have to be

[33:35] Speaker 1: we're back with Joel Anderson. I mean, Ryan didn't go
[33:38] Speaker 1: in this time, right? Ohio State is going to beat
[33:42] Speaker 1: Michigan this time, aren't they?
[33:44] Speaker 2: I think so. I mean, have you seen Michigan play
[33:46] Speaker 2: this year?
[33:47] Speaker 1: I have not seen them play this year. I mean,
[33:50] Speaker 1: they're not good from what I've been able to believe.
[33:52] Speaker 2: They're not an entertaining watch. You know what it is?
[33:55] Speaker 1: Even with that quarterback.
[33:57] Speaker 2: Yeah, they're just not.
[33:58] Speaker 3: I mean, I feel like he hasn't developed in quite
[34:01] Speaker 3: the way I expected him to this year. And I'm
[34:04] Speaker 3: just like, well, maybe they don't have a great receiving core.
[34:07] Speaker 1: Right.
[34:07] Speaker 2: So that's a big that's a big part of it.
[34:09] Speaker 3: Like they had a freshman emerge recently, Andrew Marsh, but
[34:11] Speaker 3: they're still sort of limited on the edge. And so
[34:14] Speaker 3: it's like the big thing for them will be next year. Like,
[34:16] Speaker 3: all right, what does he look like? What does he
[34:17] Speaker 3: look that receiving corps look like? But they just I
[34:21] Speaker 3: don't I feel like they got to fight to get
[34:24] Speaker 3: to 21. And if Ohio State is in the right
[34:27] Speaker 3: frame of mind and Ryan Day is about his shit,
[34:30] Speaker 3: they should blow Michigan out.
[34:31] Speaker 2: But I stopped that last year too.
[34:37] Speaker 1: There's a big button and you cannot lie. There it
[34:41] Speaker 1: is right there. So I did not realize that Michigan
[34:44] Speaker 1: had gone nine and two so far this year, because
[34:46] Speaker 1: I just talked to Michigan fans and they are ready
[34:48] Speaker 1: to rush Ron Brown out of there. They, you know,
[34:51] Speaker 1: and this happens, but this often happens, but look, they're
[34:54] Speaker 1: nine and two. The losses have not been bad. Um,
[34:59] Speaker 1: I mean, the margins were not great, but the losses,
[35:01] Speaker 1: I would argue, have not been bad. I don't think
[35:03] Speaker 1: they've beaten too many people this year. I think that's
[35:06] Speaker 1: the argument to be had. And all of this is
[35:08] Speaker 1: why Ryan Day might want to make sure they go
[35:10] Speaker 1: out here into the big house and put up some numbers.
[35:15] Speaker 3: I mean, man, the thing is, though, so what do
[35:17] Speaker 3: you think? If he loses that game somehow, inexplicably, okay,
[35:22] Speaker 3: and then goes on and wins the national championship, I just,
[35:27] Speaker 3: I don't know, and I guess I would want to
[35:29] Speaker 3: hear from Ohio State fans how they would feel about that,
[35:31] Speaker 3: because I know it's frustrating to them.
[35:32] Speaker 2: Like, it's not, they don't feel the same.
[35:35] Speaker 1: They would much rather win that game than win a
[35:37] Speaker 1: national championship.
[35:39] Speaker 2: You think so, this year? For real?
[35:41] Speaker 1: Let me ask you a question.
[35:42] Speaker 2: This is serious.
[35:43] Speaker 1: Ohio State won a national championship in 1968. Yeah. They
[35:49] Speaker 1: did not win another national championship until 2002. Nobody criticizes
[35:58] Speaker 1: John Cooper for not winning a national championship. Nobody criticized
[36:03] Speaker 1: Earl Bruce for not winning a national championship. There is
[36:07] Speaker 1: credit given to Jim Trestle for winning a national championship.
[36:10] Speaker 1: But what Jim Trestle really gets credit for is beating
[36:14] Speaker 1: Michigan over and over. It is a that is a
[36:17] Speaker 1: one game job. But what is interesting about Ohio State
[36:20] Speaker 1: is I've always felt the people in charge are still
[36:22] Speaker 1: fairly reasonable people. And if you are doing OK at
[36:25] Speaker 1: the other stuff, you can keep your job while you
[36:29] Speaker 1: keep losing. So it's not like Ryan Dale get fired
[36:31] Speaker 1: if they lose to Michigan. Just telling you, the national
[36:34] Speaker 1: championship does not soothe that pain.
[36:38] Speaker 2: That's true. I guess you're right.
[36:40] Speaker 1: Yeah.
[36:40] Speaker 3: I mean, the funny thing about it is that it
[36:42] Speaker 3: was I feel like this was a very recent memory
[36:45] Speaker 3: that people were getting sick of Jim Harbaugh because they
[36:47] Speaker 3: were underperforming and losing to Ohio State.
[36:50] Speaker 2: And Ryan Day only had like one or two of
[36:52] Speaker 2: those wins maybe over him. And so it kind of
[36:56] Speaker 2: flipped on him.
[36:56] Speaker 3: But I just like, I think if you have a
[36:59] Speaker 3: great coach, and maybe I'm talking about what I would
[37:02] Speaker 3: want to see in the world if I was Ohio State.
[37:04] Speaker 3: Because it feels like if I was an Ohio State fan,
[37:05] Speaker 3: I'd be really happy, man. My roster is so talented.
[37:08] Speaker 3: The season is not very dramatic.
[37:11] Speaker 1: We're great.
[37:11] Speaker 3: We're always playing. Like you said, we've got a one
[37:14] Speaker 3: or two game season. And we know we're going to
[37:15] Speaker 3: be good other than that.
[37:16] Speaker 2: Isn't that interesting? Don't you want to cherish that and
[37:19] Speaker 2: hold on to that for as long as you can?
[37:21] Speaker 1: Yes, but I think this is the disconnect. They don't
[37:25] Speaker 1: think the coach has anything to do with that. They
[37:29] Speaker 1: think that, and I think they're right.
[37:32] Speaker 2: They've got an argument.
[37:33] Speaker 1: We could get somebody else to do this. Their argument
[37:38] Speaker 1: is that it's not that hard to find a coach
[37:41] Speaker 1: to win at this rate at Ohio State. Now, while
[37:43] Speaker 1: they might be right, the counter argument is this. the
[37:47] Speaker 1: two coaches that they've had in the course of the
[37:49] Speaker 1: last 25 years who have done this are two of
[37:53] Speaker 1: the greatest coaches of all time. Yeah. Wait, like no,
[37:56] Speaker 1: no matter what it is we say about urban, urban
[37:58] Speaker 1: is a bad dude, man. Like, I mean, and urban
[38:02] Speaker 1: is a bad dude.
[38:03] Speaker 3: I mean, look, I was like, if LSU somehow just like,
[38:06] Speaker 3: fuck it, let's just get urban and they could convince them.
[38:08] Speaker 2: I would be scared.
[38:10] Speaker 1: I would be scared for like four years.
[38:12] Speaker 2: Yeah. For four years.
[38:12] Speaker 1: Yeah.
[38:13] Speaker 2: Yeah.
[38:13] Speaker 1: After that, But like for four years, you're absolutely right.
[38:18] Speaker 1: And look, Trestle, Trestle got, Trestle, Trestle did work, man.
[38:22] Speaker 1: He did, man.
[38:23] Speaker 2: They were very good.
[38:24] Speaker 1: It's not my kind of, it ain't my kind of football. But,
[38:27] Speaker 1: but Trestle, Trestle did work. But no, they just think
[38:30] Speaker 1: we're just going to get somebody else. Like we don't
[38:33] Speaker 1: need you to get this done.
[38:36] Speaker 2: I suppose.
[38:37] Speaker 3: I mean, you know, Ohio State has better reason to
[38:40] Speaker 3: say that than anybody else in this country.
[38:42] Speaker 2: Like, even Oklahoma can't say that. No.
[38:45] Speaker 3: Ohio State, the only time I've really seen them not
[38:47] Speaker 3: be good in my lifetime was that year Luke Fickle
[38:49] Speaker 3: had them.
[38:50] Speaker 1: And even that year, there were circumstances. Yeah, there was
[38:54] Speaker 1: a drill prior to school.
[38:55] Speaker 2: Yeah, right.
[38:56] Speaker 1: Prior to coach. And all this happened in February. Right.
[38:59] Speaker 3: It was a mess of an offseason. And so they
[39:02] Speaker 3: really kind of punted on that year.
[39:04] Speaker 1: But, yeah, man. And then the next year they went undefeated. 12-0. 12-0.
[39:07] Speaker 2: So that's what I'm saying. Like, I just, I don't know, man.
[39:14] Speaker 3: I feel like Ohio State is going to win this
[39:16] Speaker 3: game and it's going to be right with the world
[39:19] Speaker 3: in order.
[39:19] Speaker 2: And then it'll be like, all right, man, Sharon, you
[39:22] Speaker 2: on the clock. Like, next year it'll be your black
[39:25] Speaker 2: ass on the line.
[39:26] Speaker 1: But what was your caveat? What was it? said all
[39:30] Speaker 1: this just a minute ago? Oh, yeah.
[39:32] Speaker 2: I thought that last year.
[39:33] Speaker 1: I thought that last year.
[39:34] Speaker 2: I thought it all last year.
[39:35] Speaker 1: And by the way, that national championship don't mean nothing
[39:38] Speaker 1: right now based on that.
[39:41] Speaker 3: That's a fair point. They say that they were not
[39:43] Speaker 3: going to fire him last year, right? If it had
[39:46] Speaker 3: only been a 14. No, I'm talking about Ohio State.
[39:50] Speaker 1: Yeah, no, that's the part I think.
[39:51] Speaker 2: People don't get. If it had been a 14 playoff,
[39:52] Speaker 2: they said they wouldn't fire him. But the feelings would
[39:55] Speaker 2: have been so hard.
[39:56] Speaker 1: No, that's the thing. They're not going to fire you.
[39:59] Speaker 1: Alabama doesn't fire you.
[40:01] Speaker 2: Yeah. You leave. That make you say you can't stay.
[40:05] Speaker 1: Yeah. Not even make you say you say they don't
[40:08] Speaker 1: have to. I guess the the big you big thing
[40:11] Speaker 1: make you say it. But you look around yourself and
[40:13] Speaker 1: you're like, no, man, I just don't. I don't I
[40:16] Speaker 1: just don't think I want to do this. Like at
[40:17] Speaker 1: some point, Caleb DeBoer is going to look around and
[40:19] Speaker 1: just be like, no, like like if somehow he he
[40:22] Speaker 1: get his ass beat this week, which I don't think
[40:24] Speaker 1: is humanly possible. But I quit. I quit before I
[40:27] Speaker 1: got back to my car.
[40:29] Speaker 3: So there's two interesting things about this week. Did you
[40:31] Speaker 3: see there was a report, and I think it's called
[40:32] Speaker 3: the Center Times, reported that Kalen DeBoer is the top
[40:37] Speaker 3: target for Penn State?
[40:39] Speaker 1: Yeah. Every good job should call and see.
[40:43] Speaker 2: Yeah, I was like, hmm, that actually kind of makes sense.
[40:46] Speaker 1: It might be your lucky day. Well, I don't know
[40:50] Speaker 1: enough about Alabama, like if they got their money game right,
[40:52] Speaker 1: if they got the alignment that you need to do this.
[40:55] Speaker 1: Because if you don't, hey, man, you need to look around.
[40:58] Speaker 1: I mean, Nick Saban almost left for Texas, and Texas
[41:02] Speaker 1: blew it. They had it, right? And look, and everybody
[41:06] Speaker 1: talks about what a hassle that job is. And Nick
[41:09] Speaker 1: Saban looked at Alabama with all the winning that he
[41:12] Speaker 1: was doing. And was like, no, no. Hey, look, man.
[41:16] Speaker 1: Bear Bryant had one bad post-integration year. He quit his
[41:21] Speaker 1: job and died a month later.
[41:23] Speaker 2: Yeah, died a month later. I know, man.
[41:24] Speaker 1: Yeah. Died a month later. But it is rivalry week.
[41:27] Speaker 1: We've talked a bit about these games. Lane turned out
[41:29] Speaker 1: to be a richer topic of discussion. But Texas, Texas
[41:34] Speaker 1: A & M play. Yeah, man. This appears to be
[41:37] Speaker 1: the best Texas A & M team of all time.
[41:42] Speaker 2: Wow. That's a, man, you know what?
[41:45] Speaker 1: I mean, it's actually not that long a list to discuss.
[41:47] Speaker 2: So, like, 91?
[41:48] Speaker 1: Here's the way I'm going to put it. You remember
[41:51] Speaker 1: that time A & M had a good offense and
[41:52] Speaker 1: a good defense? Because those Slocum teams were just all
[41:57] Speaker 1: wrecking crew, all defense. Bucky Richardson, Lance Pavlis, like, other
[42:01] Speaker 1: media quarterbacks.
[42:02] Speaker 2: But you know what it was? It was like, Dante Hall. Yeah,
[42:05] Speaker 2: they were.
[42:07] Speaker 1: But then they'd get to those cotton bowls against Notre
[42:09] Speaker 1: Dame or whoever it was, and they couldn't score no points. Like,
[42:13] Speaker 1: they were clearly a tier below. That's not the case
[42:16] Speaker 1: right now. Now, they almost got handled in that game
[42:18] Speaker 1: against South Carolina. Now, look, I don't root for Texas anymore,
[42:22] Speaker 1: but I'll hate A & M to the day I die.
[42:24] Speaker 1: And I don't really hate them. I just don't think
[42:27] Speaker 1: very much of them. That's a better way to put it.
[42:29] Speaker 2: You don't want to see them happy. It's kind of
[42:30] Speaker 2: funny to see them frustrated.
[42:32] Speaker 1: It's more than kind of, right? There's no way for
[42:36] Speaker 1: them to get back down to eight wins, which is
[42:38] Speaker 1: generally what the Texas A & M season is, is
[42:40] Speaker 1: eight wins. Keep in mind, a school that hasn't won
[42:42] Speaker 1: a conference championship since 1988. 1998, yes. Put some respect
[42:44] Speaker 1: on Chip Parker's name. Sorry, 1998. But a few things
[42:46] Speaker 1: brought me joy, like last.
[42:46] Speaker 2: Year, that game that they had been waiting 13 years for,
[42:48] Speaker 2: their opportunity to play.
[42:48] Speaker 1: And look, That's a game that Texas is not supposed
[43:02] Speaker 1: to have any chance at winning. It's the same way.
[43:05] Speaker 1: Bill Curry really got run out because he lost that
[43:08] Speaker 1: first game that they played in Auburn in like 50 years. Right, right.
[43:12] Speaker 1: There was no chance that Alabama was ever going to
[43:15] Speaker 1: win that game, right? Like there's just some games you're
[43:17] Speaker 1: not going to win. The environment is going to be
[43:20] Speaker 1: such that you have no chance of winning that game.
[43:23] Speaker 1: That's what that was. And for those who don't know,
[43:25] Speaker 1: They had historically played the Iron Bowl at Legion Field
[43:28] Speaker 1: in Birmingham, but that was really an Alabama home game
[43:31] Speaker 1: every year. And so for years, Auburn had fought, and
[43:34] Speaker 1: they finally got the game on campus for 1989. They've
[43:37] Speaker 1: been playing the game on campus basically since. They got
[43:39] Speaker 1: the game back for 1989. Alabama was not going to
[43:42] Speaker 1: win that game. Alabama went into that game 10-0. They
[43:45] Speaker 1: lost it 10-1. They lost the Sugar Bowl to the
[43:47] Speaker 1: national champion Miami Hurricanes 10-2. They basically ran Bill Curry
[43:51] Speaker 1: off his job immediately after, okay? I thought that they'd say,
[43:55] Speaker 1: no way Texas A & M can lose that game.
[43:57] Speaker 1: They haven't played this game since 2011. They've wanted this
[43:59] Speaker 1: game so bad. Self-esteem of that entire university is relative
[44:02] Speaker 1: to what it is, the University of Texas. And they lost.
[44:05] Speaker 1: And I don't even remember it being close. They just lost.
[44:10] Speaker 2: That was a good Texas team, though, man.
[44:12] Speaker 1: Yeah, I hear you, but you hear me, right?
[44:16] Speaker 2: Oh, I hear you.
[44:17] Speaker 1: So now the game is back at Austin. It's the
[44:19] Speaker 1: first time this game has been played in Austin in
[44:21] Speaker 1: 15 years, right? Texas still, look, they're not the team
[44:27] Speaker 1: people thought they were going to be.
[44:29] Speaker 2: No.
[44:29] Speaker 1: I would argue that Arch is much better than he
[44:31] Speaker 1: was to start the year.
[44:33] Speaker 2: Absolutely.
[44:34] Speaker 1: And they still got boys. Like, A & M should
[44:38] Speaker 1: win this game. And if A & M doesn't win
[44:40] Speaker 1: the game, they're probably still in the playoff. And it'll
[44:42] Speaker 1: be funny if they lose.
[44:44] Speaker 3: A & M is good, but they're not so good
[44:47] Speaker 3: that you look at them against Texas and say, oh,
[44:49] Speaker 3: they should be able to handle them. Like, they're going
[44:50] Speaker 3: to have to fight. Like, that is going to be
[44:52] Speaker 3: A very difficult game for them.
[44:54] Speaker 1: I mean, they almost lost to a bad team.
[44:56] Speaker 3: Also, I mean, the thing, the knock against A &
[44:59] Speaker 3: M and its conference schedule this year is that they
[45:01] Speaker 3: have not played any of the good teams. Like, they've
[45:03] Speaker 3: only played teams at the bottom half of the league
[45:05] Speaker 3: so far. So we don't know what it's going to
[45:08] Speaker 3: be like. I mean, I guess they did square up
[45:10] Speaker 3: against Notre Dame earlier in the year.
[45:12] Speaker 2: And really, I.
[45:14] Speaker 3: Mean, they got kind of lucky in that game, but
[45:15] Speaker 3: they squared up and Notre Dame looks like one of
[45:17] Speaker 3: the best teams in the country right now. So they should,
[45:20] Speaker 3: they've got a lot of talent, but it's just like, man,
[45:22] Speaker 3: even when Texas looks bad, you're still like, man, they've got,
[45:25] Speaker 3: you know, they still got talent on the defense. Like,
[45:28] Speaker 3: and you tell me about this. We haven't talked about
[45:30] Speaker 3: this with you. Texas has never had anybody like Colin
[45:32] Speaker 3: Simmons in my entire life. Colin Simmons is one-on-one for Texas.
[45:36] Speaker 3: They've never had that guy before, right? Anthony Hill is
[45:41] Speaker 3: really good. They've got a great secondary. They've got a
[45:43] Speaker 3: lot of talent over there.
[45:44] Speaker 2: Okay.
[45:46] Speaker 1: I'm just sitting here thinking about this because you're right. Like,
[45:49] Speaker 1: Simmons is... So you mean specifically from a defensive end?
[45:54] Speaker 2: Yeah, from a defensive end. Arakpo is the only... The closest... Sergio.
[46:01] Speaker 1: When they had Arakpo and Sergio at the same time,
[46:04] Speaker 1: it was.
[46:05] Speaker 2: They were nasty.
[46:07] Speaker 3: But I just feel like Colin Simmons is going to
[46:10] Speaker 3: be top five pick guy. He's going to be one
[46:14] Speaker 3: of those defensive end guys or one of those pass
[46:16] Speaker 3: rushers that the league is going to scoop up.
[46:18] Speaker 1: Yeah, I think that's fair. Yeah, because I would say
[46:21] Speaker 1: just as a defensive player, right?
[46:23] Speaker 2: Yes.
[46:24] Speaker 1: Derrick Johnson is way high on the list.
[46:28] Speaker 2: Would Derrick Johnson change?
[46:29] Speaker 3: I feel like, again, before that, my image of Texas
[46:33] Speaker 3: linebackers were like Tommy Novus.
[46:35] Speaker 2: You know what I mean?
[46:36] Speaker 1: But it's also just a state that doesn't produce linebackers. Yeah, yeah.
[46:40] Speaker 1: Like Derrick Johnson, the best linebacker in the state prior
[46:45] Speaker 1: to derrick johnson like when you put it all together
[46:47] Speaker 1: it's jesse armstead and there's a lot of years between
[46:50] Speaker 1: jesse armstead and derrick johnson and we don't really have
[46:54] Speaker 1: that much to talk about post derrick johnson it's just
[46:56] Speaker 1: a state that doesn't produce linebackers for whatever which seems
[46:59] Speaker 1: weird because it's a state that produces running backs.
[47:01] Speaker 3: So many great athletes yeah you would think i'm forgetting
[47:04] Speaker 3: somebody yeah i mean like the royland bradley's all those
[47:06] Speaker 3: guys like they were good in college but they just
[47:08] Speaker 3: never you know they didn't become the nfl guys we
[47:10] Speaker 3: expect mike singletary though h town legend that is true
[47:13] Speaker 3: you know um I just, my thing about them, though,
[47:18] Speaker 3: is that I just, I don't know, man. I think
[47:21] Speaker 3: Colin Simmons is just kind of a one-on-one, like not
[47:23] Speaker 3: Andre Wadsworth, but just like in the vision of all
[47:26] Speaker 3: the elite defensive ends we've ever seen before. The other
[47:29] Speaker 3: guy that I'm thinking of, too, on defense, though, that
[47:32] Speaker 3: you didn't mention, but I know you will, you will
[47:33] Speaker 3: remember when I say his name, Earl Thomas. Earl Thomas
[47:36] Speaker 3: was the kind of guy that Texas had never really
[47:39] Speaker 3: had before either.
[47:40] Speaker 2: Earl Thomas as Texas as Ed Reed.
[47:42] Speaker 1: Yeah, you could say Earl is the, I'm trying to think, like,
[47:45] Speaker 1: better defensive players that Texas has had. Like, how far
[47:49] Speaker 1: do I need to go before Earl to get to
[47:51] Speaker 1: one as good as Earl? Because we're taking Arakpo off
[47:55] Speaker 1: the list, for example.
[47:56] Speaker 2: Okay.
[47:56] Speaker 1: I mean, I'm saying, but, like, I think Earl was
[47:59] Speaker 1: a better player than Arakpo was. And that's as a
[48:02] Speaker 1: redshirt sophomore. We only got two years of Earl playing there.
[48:05] Speaker 1: We're talking about Earl. Like, this list is like, we're
[48:08] Speaker 1: looking at Arakpo. Earl was a better player, I think,
[48:11] Speaker 1: than Sergio. Kendall was.
[48:13] Speaker 2: I mean, bro.
[48:14] Speaker 1: Yeah, Earl was that dude.
[48:16] Speaker 2: Yeah, man.
[48:17] Speaker 3: I mean, all the great Texas guys now have all
[48:20] Speaker 3: happened within our lifetime. And it's like a new thing because, again,
[48:23] Speaker 3: as we mentioned earlier, kind of the Ole Miss shit,
[48:26] Speaker 3: them guys went to A & M.
[48:27] Speaker 2: They went to Florida State. They went to Oklahoma.
[48:30] Speaker 1: They went to Miami.
[48:31] Speaker 3: They went to Miami. Yeah, Texas didn't get those guys.
[48:34] Speaker 3: And that's why I'm like, oh, Colin Simmons is the
[48:36] Speaker 3: kind of guy that we were growing up. it'd have
[48:37] Speaker 3: been like David Warren. Like he would have gone to
[48:39] Speaker 3: Miami or something like that. You know, I guess now.
[48:43] Speaker 2: You know, LSU.
[48:45] Speaker 1: Yeah, it started turning interestingly with McAvick. And then Matt
[48:48] Speaker 1: Brown was just kind of like, hey, man, like, I can't,
[48:52] Speaker 1: I can't keep it. Stop asking me to keep answering
[48:54] Speaker 1: for them other white men. You know what I'm saying? Yeah, right.
[48:56] Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah. They let him into Dallas.
[48:58] Speaker 3: He talked his way into Dallas Carter, man.
[49:00] Speaker 2: You know what I'm saying?
[49:02] Speaker 1: Matt got game, boy.
[49:03] Speaker 2: Have you ever, have you ever been to an A &
[49:05] Speaker 2: M Texas game?
[49:06] Speaker 1: Oh, no, I have not been in either of those stadiums.
[49:10] Speaker 1: I remember I moved when I was 16. I haven't
[49:12] Speaker 1: been back in a long time.
[49:14] Speaker 2: Oh, dog.
[49:15] Speaker 1: Well, first of all, I'm not really trying to go
[49:18] Speaker 1: to Kyle's station ever.
[49:20] Speaker 2: Again.
[49:20] Speaker 3: I think you need to spend a Saturday in Kyle Field, man.
[49:24] Speaker 3: I really do. I've done it a few times, and
[49:27] Speaker 3: I was there in like 97. So that was the
[49:31] Speaker 3: last one before the bonfire, right?
[49:33] Speaker 2: The bonfire was in 99.
[49:34] Speaker 1: 99, okay. Yeah, so then that's right.
[49:38] Speaker 2: Because, let's see, the game the next year, 98, was
[49:40] Speaker 2: in Austin. Yeah. Okay.
[49:42] Speaker 1: Can you fight? Because if you can fight, we can go.
[49:46] Speaker 2: I don't know if I can fight anymore.
[49:48] Speaker 1: We're going to find out, I think.
[49:50] Speaker 2: You'll be okay.
[49:51] Speaker 3: You'll be okay. You'll be all right. Those are actually
[49:55] Speaker 3: your people. You know what I'm saying?
[49:57] Speaker 2: They right down the street from you. They are.
[49:59] Speaker 1: They really are. Look, man, my high school is a
[50:01] Speaker 1: Baruda White High School. Aggie War Hill was the... I'm
[50:04] Speaker 1: very familiar with the archetype, and it's interesting because I
[50:06] Speaker 1: don't dislike them. but you get them around a hundred
[50:10] Speaker 1: thousand others.
[50:11] Speaker 2: It's a, it's a, it's an interesting play.
[50:13] Speaker 3: I just think it's a, a very unique environment in
[50:17] Speaker 3: college football. And like, I mean, I don't know if this,
[50:19] Speaker 3: and people, A & M fans tell me if there's
[50:21] Speaker 3: still a thing, the stadium would shake, like the press box.
[50:24] Speaker 1: Would shake because of the, it's got a.
[50:26] Speaker 3: It's, It's got some pageantry, man. I think it's a
[50:28] Speaker 3: big part of it. And it's a good place to
[50:30] Speaker 3: watch a game. But Texas isn't quite the same, but
[50:33] Speaker 3: Texas is still a fun place. That game in and
[50:35] Speaker 3: of itself is something that you need.
[50:37] Speaker 2: To go to.
[50:37] Speaker 1: Well, look, you and I have talked about this. We've
[50:39] Speaker 1: talked about doing a Texas-Oklahoma. We've talked about doing a
[50:42] Speaker 1: Texas-Texas A & M. The difference between you and I,
[50:44] Speaker 1: of course, is you are married with children, so it's
[50:46] Speaker 1: a little more difficult for you to carve out space.
[50:49] Speaker 1: But come make it happen, big dog. I'm down. If
[50:51] Speaker 1: you're down to make it happen, I'll make it happen.
[50:54] Speaker 2: I want to do this.
[50:55] Speaker 3: I think I want to do the OU Texas thing, though.
[50:58] Speaker 1: That'll be easier because it doesn't interfere, have like a
[51:01] Speaker 1: holiday wrapped around it. Let's say we're going to do it, 2026.
[51:04] Speaker 1: People listening right now, let's go ahead and, you know,
[51:07] Speaker 1: because I'm saying, man, I'll do it.
[51:09] Speaker 2: Okay.
[51:10] Speaker 1: Please believe that. I'll do it.
[51:12] Speaker 2: As long as I get enough heads up, I can
[51:14] Speaker 2: do it. And man, yeah, bro.
[51:15] Speaker 1: Yo, your heads up is 10 months. I'm saying right now.
[51:18] Speaker 2: Yeah, okay.
[51:18] Speaker 3: Then I'm going to ask. Okay, I'm going to ask.
[51:21] Speaker 3: I'm going to ask. Have you been to the State
[51:22] Speaker 3: Fair in Texas?
[51:24] Speaker 1: I have. It's been a... I have been once. It's
[51:26] Speaker 1: been a very, very, very long time.
[51:27] Speaker 2: Oh, bro. Oh, so fine.
[51:29] Speaker 1: But you know what I hate as you just talk
[51:30] Speaker 1: about having to ask your wife if you can make.
[51:32] Speaker 2: This trip is.
[51:34] Speaker 1: No, I mean, no, because you're married. I mean, it's life.
[51:36] Speaker 2: I get it.
[51:36] Speaker 1: Like, I'm not saying that with judgment, but I admit
[51:38] Speaker 1: for us, we're not going to have time. Maybe we'll
[51:40] Speaker 1: try this another time to talk about... I'm going to
[51:42] Speaker 1: talk about this maybe tomorrow. I'm going to talk about
[51:44] Speaker 1: this on Monday. That is Newsy and Lizzo and dignity
[51:49] Speaker 1: and the distinct lack thereof.
[51:51] Speaker 2: Man, bro. Look, man.
[51:56] Speaker 3: I think with the lizard thing is that you can...
[51:59] Speaker 3: hate somebody so much and be so done with them
[52:01] Speaker 3: that you're just willing to humiliate yourself.
[52:03] Speaker 1: You're willing to burn yourself, set yourself on fire in
[52:05] Speaker 1: the same process.
[52:06] Speaker 3: I hate you so much that, yeah, right. I'm going
[52:08] Speaker 3: to shoot you and kill myself.
[52:09] Speaker 2: You know what I'm saying?
[52:10] Speaker 1: Look, I'm going to just drop this line right now
[52:12] Speaker 1: and maybe I'll drop it later when I talk about
[52:14] Speaker 1: it at another point if I talk about it at
[52:15] Speaker 1: another point. But I need everybody to understand this. I
[52:17] Speaker 1: can't remember if I said this in the chat or not.
[52:19] Speaker 2: Okay?
[52:20] Speaker 1: But fellas, that story about that time that your girl
[52:24] Speaker 1: cheated on you and you took her back and then
[52:27] Speaker 1: she cheated on you again. that story is not going
[52:30] Speaker 1: to play for you. There's no way that you can
[52:35] Speaker 1: dress this story up. There's nothing that you can put
[52:38] Speaker 1: in this story. And that's what this Ryan Lizard guy
[52:40] Speaker 1: does not understand. There's nothing that you can do to
[52:43] Speaker 1: the story about the time that your girl cheated on
[52:46] Speaker 1: you and you took her... women can perhaps tell that
[52:49] Speaker 1: story and be like man see they ain't shit right
[52:52] Speaker 1: yeah girl they ain't shit that's not especially not no
[52:56] Speaker 1: woman 20 something years younger than you bro this is
[52:58] Speaker 1: not this is not uh i'm not trying to judge
[53:01] Speaker 1: hold on the woman you left your wife and.
[53:05] Speaker 3: Kids well that's the thing like you're just not going
[53:08] Speaker 3: to be a sympathetic figure in the middle of all
[53:11] Speaker 3: this bro i mean it's I can imagine that this
[53:13] Speaker 3: is tremendously humiliating and that like to go through the
[53:16] Speaker 3: world with people knowing that about my life, that would
[53:19] Speaker 3: be really hurtful. But like, bro, you're just not the
[53:21] Speaker 3: person that people care about in this situation, man. Like
[53:23] Speaker 3: you just are not, like nobody did you wrong. Like
[53:25] Speaker 3: this is what you signed up for.
[53:27] Speaker 1: And so for people who don't know what happened, we'll
[53:29] Speaker 1: get through this right quick. Ryan Liz is a famous
[53:32] Speaker 1: political writer. This woman, Olivia Newsy, is a famous political writer.
[53:35] Speaker 1: They used to be together. A man left his wife
[53:38] Speaker 1: and kids for her. She is much younger than him.
[53:40] Speaker 1: Like 20 something years. Yeah. Anyway, she she's like early
[53:43] Speaker 1: 30s now.
[53:44] Speaker 2: But 31, 32.
[53:45] Speaker 1: Long and short, she had done a profile of Robert F.
[53:48] Speaker 1: Kennedy Jr. and fell in love with him. And her
[53:53] Speaker 1: man caught her. Yeah. Somehow, some way. And so she
[53:56] Speaker 1: got pulled off of she had to get pulled off
[53:59] Speaker 1: the covering election stuff because, you know, she had a relationship.
[54:02] Speaker 1: She said was not sexual. Not really the point. And
[54:06] Speaker 1: so she has written this book that talks about all
[54:09] Speaker 1: the stuff that she'd been doing. And now her ex-boyfriend
[54:12] Speaker 1: is now writing his stuff about the stuff that she
[54:15] Speaker 1: was doing. And it's just turning this big old messy
[54:18] Speaker 1: thing that also involves Keith Olbermann because she used to
[54:20] Speaker 1: date Keith Olbermann. And the dude Ryan Lizzo wrote in
[54:23] Speaker 1: his newsletter about how Olbermann had given her $ 15, 000 worth
[54:26] Speaker 1: of Cartier jewelry and Tom Ford dresses and everything else.
[54:30] Speaker 1: And my favorite part of this is Keith Olbermann being like, brother,
[54:33] Speaker 1: I was with her for four years and I was
[54:34] Speaker 1: making a lot of money. what you think I was
[54:37] Speaker 1: supposed to do, dog? He was like, it ain't tricking
[54:41] Speaker 1: if you got it, homeboy.
[54:42] Speaker 2: It ain't tricking if you got it, yeah.
[54:43] Speaker 1: He's like, yeah, I put her through school. Yeah, you
[54:46] Speaker 1: put her through all this. He was like, do you
[54:47] Speaker 1: know how rich I am? Do you understand what my
[54:50] Speaker 1: paper is?
[54:51] Speaker 2: Oh, he's like, you sound broke. That's me. You sound broke.
[54:55] Speaker 1: And I ain't gonna lie. My attitudes about spending on
[54:57] Speaker 1: women definitely changed. That's my pockets deal. Yeah, right. Right?
[55:02] Speaker 1: But he was just like, no, this is what it is. Like,
[55:04] Speaker 1: I can't. And this is true. After you get to
[55:06] Speaker 1: a certain point, there's some things you have to do.
[55:08] Speaker 1: You ain't got to do them all. But oh my God,
[55:10] Speaker 1: it was just so bad. But this dude has written
[55:12] Speaker 1: out all these stories and none of them make, they
[55:14] Speaker 1: all make him look like a first class sump. A
[55:17] Speaker 1: first class sump. And these other cats is like, I'd
[55:19] Speaker 1: rather be a trick than a sump. Yeah, man.
[55:21] Speaker 3: I mean, just makes you look like a sucker. But again, man,
[55:23] Speaker 3: love will make you do crazy things, man.
[55:25] Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah.
[55:26] Speaker 3: You know, I think that I don't, you know, I
[55:29] Speaker 3: don't know the particulars here. I don't know these people.
[55:32] Speaker 3: I've never spoken to them before. But I imagine, man,
[55:34] Speaker 3: you know, you probably, again, this is kind of like
[55:36] Speaker 3: the Belichick situation. he probably never thought he was going
[55:39] Speaker 3: to see a young naked body again. And he got
[55:41] Speaker 3: to do it. And now it's hard to let it go.
[55:43] Speaker 3: So he's just like, all right, baby.
[55:44] Speaker 2: All right, come on home. I'll take you.
[55:47] Speaker 1: The only thing I would say about Belichick, though, is
[55:49] Speaker 1: Belichick seemed a whole lot happier with his woman than
[55:51] Speaker 1: this Ryan Lizard got seen with his.
[55:52] Speaker 2: Oh, yeah, man.
[55:53] Speaker 1: Hey, man, y'all say whatever you want about Bill Belichick, man.
[55:55] Speaker 1: The part I keep coming back to is I ain't
[55:57] Speaker 1: never seen this man look that happy. Oh, bro. I
[55:59] Speaker 1: keep telling you about when I saw him pull up
[56:00] Speaker 1: at that pop-up at the Super Bowl, you could tell
[56:03] Speaker 1: him he ain't had the baddest thing in the room
[56:04] Speaker 1: and Sierra was in that room. Look, bro.
[56:08] Speaker 3: They clowning him for going to that adult cheerleading competition thing.
[56:11] Speaker 2: He's exactly where he wants to be.
[56:13] Speaker 1: Yo, I was like, when I saw that, that's when
[56:15] Speaker 1: I was like, you got it, big dog.
[56:17] Speaker 2: Yeah, man.
[56:18] Speaker 1: You got it. Like, that was really kind of you.
[56:20] Speaker 1: You know what I'm saying?
[56:21] Speaker 2: Oh, baby, I'm going to support you, man.
[56:23] Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah. Like, I was like, like. It sound like
[56:27] Speaker 1: you're doing what you're supposed to do in this game? Yeah, man.
[56:29] Speaker 2: This is a relationship. This is her little activity.
[56:32] Speaker 1: I think that was the part that got me. It
[56:34] Speaker 1: was like, isn't that what you do?
[56:36] Speaker 2: Yeah. She goes to his games.
[56:38] Speaker 1: I thought that's what love was. And clearly this cheerleading
[56:41] Speaker 1: stuff is very important to her because she still does it.
[56:44] Speaker 2: I mean, man. I mean, you can't.
[56:46] Speaker 3: Cheerleading is a very involved activity. Like, you can't just, like,
[56:49] Speaker 3: fuck around and do it every night again.
[56:51] Speaker 1: Yeah, I saw that, and my thought, honestly, was good
[56:53] Speaker 1: for them.
[56:54] Speaker 2: Yeah, man.
[56:54] Speaker 1: Everybody just wants to just talk so bad about him.
[56:56] Speaker 1: I'm like, hey, man, this man looks really happy, and
[57:00] Speaker 1: she seems very capable of making her own decisions. Yes, look, bro.
[57:04] Speaker 1: She's capable of making her own decisions and some of his.
[57:08] Speaker 3: I can understand if his family is perturbed, and there's
[57:11] Speaker 3: reporting around that.
[57:12] Speaker 2: Yeah, I saw that.
[57:13] Speaker 3: But it's just kind of like Look, man, sometimes you
[57:16] Speaker 3: got to let people find out for their self, man.
[57:18] Speaker 3: You know, you're not going to talk him out of
[57:20] Speaker 3: loving her. He's going to have to fall out of
[57:22] Speaker 3: love with her.
[57:23] Speaker 1: Right, right, right, right. That's Joel Anderson. Check him out
[57:25] Speaker 1: at the Ring of Tailgate. Check him out at the
[57:27] Speaker 1: Press Box. Or occasionally check him out on my show,
[57:30] Speaker 1: Hating On Me, In My Face.
[57:33] Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, you started it. And so I think
[57:36] Speaker 3: everybody can see that again.
[57:37] Speaker 1: All I said, no, the only thing I said was
[57:39] Speaker 1: that you be hating. And then you immediately started hating.
[57:42] Speaker 1: That is not starting it.
[57:45] Speaker 2: I kind of feel like it is, but that's fine.
[57:47] Speaker 1: I called a hater a hater, and the hater started
[57:50] Speaker 1: hating it.
[57:51] Speaker 3: I'm just glad I could spend time with you, brother.
[57:53] Speaker 3: You know what I'm saying? I'm proud of you, all
[57:55] Speaker 3: the work you've been doing. You've been doing a great
[57:56] Speaker 3: job this year. More shows for me to listen to.
[57:58] Speaker 3: I'm going to say things like that. You know what
[58:01] Speaker 3: I'm saying? What did my mother used to say about me?
[58:03] Speaker 3: Because she called me a contrarian as a kid. And
[58:06] Speaker 3: she'd be like, I'm going to redirect your energy.
[58:08] Speaker 2: You know what I'm saying? So I'm redirecting your energy
[58:10] Speaker 2: right now.
[58:10] Speaker 1: I'm just going to say right quickly. When a mother
[58:14] Speaker 1: calls her child a contrarian, it's because he's too young
[58:18] Speaker 1: for her to say asshole.
[58:19] Speaker 2: In front of him.
[58:21] Speaker 3: I probably, I mean, I was, as my aunt said
[58:23] Speaker 3: to me when I told her that my son was
[58:25] Speaker 3: the freest Anderson that ever lived, she was like, well,
[58:28] Speaker 3: you were pretty free too.
[58:30] Speaker 2: And I was like, fair enough. Fair enough. I'm getting
[58:33] Speaker 2: it back.
