[0:05] Speaker 1: Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the right time. A wave original.
[0:09] Speaker 1: My name is Bobani Jones. Thanks for listening wherever you
[0:11] Speaker 1: get your podcast. Thanks for watching us on YouTube. Subscribe, like,
[0:16] Speaker 1: rate us, review us, give us five stars. You only
[0:18] Speaker 1: give us four stars. I'm inclined to believe you are
[0:21] Speaker 1: a hater. It is that time of week that we
[0:23] Speaker 1: have a guest join us. And the first time that
[0:25] Speaker 1: we've had somebody go full asshole and put on sunglasses
[0:29] Speaker 1: for right as the show started, right before. He doesn't
[0:32] Speaker 1: have pink eye. You know what I'm saying? He doesn't
[0:35] Speaker 1: have a sty or anything like that. But Adam Lefkoe
[0:38] Speaker 1: just decided he wanted to be a little cooler than
[0:40] Speaker 1: the rest of us.
[0:42] Speaker 2: It's 99 degrees out there today, Bo.
[0:44] Speaker 1: It is 99 degrees out there. And I'll tell you.
[0:46] Speaker 2: I can't do it. I can't do it. I've always
[0:48] Speaker 2: wanted to be the guy that says I can't do it.
[0:50] Speaker 1: I'm going to tell people something Adam and I were
[0:52] Speaker 1: talking about coming in on this. Okay. So I'm having
[0:55] Speaker 1: a sofa delivery today. Um, the plan for me on
[0:59] Speaker 1: getting the sofa delivered was actually that yesterday I was
[1:03] Speaker 1: going to go pick. Okay. So the thing was I
[1:05] Speaker 1: bought the sofa on Saturday and they said on Sunday,
[1:09] Speaker 1: the moving company would call me and I'm like, cool.
[1:11] Speaker 1: That means that you'll deliver it. on Monday. But on Sunday,
[1:14] Speaker 1: the moving company did not deliver. I called the store
[1:17] Speaker 1: and they said, you'll hear from them on Tuesday. Or
[1:20] Speaker 1: at least I thought she said that I would hear
[1:21] Speaker 1: from them on Tuesday. I'm like, damn, if I ain't
[1:23] Speaker 1: even going to hear from them till Tuesday, ain't no
[1:26] Speaker 1: telling when they're actually going to bring the stuff. And
[1:29] Speaker 1: so I had to go to my, what do you
[1:30] Speaker 1: do when you don't live in New York situation? Like
[1:33] Speaker 1: who got the trucks? So I went on one of
[1:35] Speaker 1: the car rental apps to get a truck. And I
[1:38] Speaker 1: was like, yo, I'm not paying $ 200. And then it
[1:40] Speaker 1: dawned on me, There's a whole company called U-Haul that
[1:45] Speaker 1: exists for this very purpose. And U-Haul is one of
[1:48] Speaker 1: the rare things where the price everywhere else is the
[1:51] Speaker 1: same as the price in New York City. $ 19. 95 for
[1:55] Speaker 1: the day plus miles. I said, cool. I'm going to
[1:57] Speaker 1: get to U-Haul. I'm going to go down. They're going
[1:59] Speaker 1: to put the couch in the cargo van. They got
[2:02] Speaker 1: the nine-foot cargo van. They're going to put that in
[2:05] Speaker 1: the van. And then I'll drive back up here. And
[2:07] Speaker 1: then I'll have somebody meet me. We'll take it upstairs. Boom.
[2:10] Speaker 1: That's what's up. Man, I called to set that up.
[2:13] Speaker 1: And Buddy says, well, actually, we're already here on Monday.
[2:17] Speaker 1: He says, well, we're actually already. Oh, he called me.
[2:19] Speaker 1: That's right. He called me. And he's like, all right,
[2:21] Speaker 1: but we've already got the couch. And I'm like, man,
[2:25] Speaker 1: how do I get out of this? Because I'm going
[2:26] Speaker 1: to save like a couple hundred dollars by doing this myself.
[2:29] Speaker 1: And then I looked at the weather and it was
[2:30] Speaker 1: already 80 something degrees at nine o'clock in the morning.
[2:34] Speaker 1: I was like, nah, homie, you got it. No chance.
[2:38] Speaker 2: A few things here. Number one. I can't imagine you
[2:43] Speaker 2: doing well driving a U-Haul.
[2:45] Speaker 1: It's a cargo bay.
[2:46] Speaker 2: You like trying to like back into a spot with
[2:50] Speaker 2: a huge vehicle. I just don't trust it. I don't know.
[2:53] Speaker 2: You have no reason to feel this way. Having hung
[2:57] Speaker 2: out with you before, I just like, I know that I,
[3:01] Speaker 2: I think that you've outlived moving your own furniture. Oh, absolutely. Yes.
[3:07] Speaker 2: You are a, let me hire some European.
[3:10] Speaker 1: Men to move a sofa into my. Yes.
[3:13] Speaker 2: Like, dude, sweating and like trying to back around a corner.
[3:18] Speaker 1: But no, no, no. But this is the thing about
[3:20] Speaker 1: going through U-Haul that I hadn't thought about. For the low,
[3:23] Speaker 1: low price of $ 7, they give you the dolly.
[3:28] Speaker 2: Get out of here, bro. You're not wheeling a dolly.
[3:31] Speaker 2: I don't see you doing this.
[3:32] Speaker 1: Me and my brother moved a chair on Saturday. If
[3:36] Speaker 1: you called me and you're like.
[3:37] Speaker 2: Hey, can you move a couch? I'd be like, Bomani,
[3:39] Speaker 2: you've made too much money.
[3:40] Speaker 1: I agree with you. On a general basis, you are correct.
[3:43] Speaker 1: But I thought it was going to take them like
[3:47] Speaker 1: a week or so to bring this couch. And I
[3:50] Speaker 1: was like, okay. I mean, moving the chair wasn't that hard.
[3:53] Speaker 1: We ain't have no dolly. But I called an Uber XXL,
[3:57] Speaker 1: which I did not know existed. What? What?
[3:59] Speaker 2: Yes.
[4:00] Speaker 1: They have an Uber XXL and I learned it existed
[4:02] Speaker 1: because the Uber XL was not up to the task.
[4:05] Speaker 1: And so I was able to move these chains in.
[4:08] Speaker 1: That was no problem. You know what I'm saying? I
[4:10] Speaker 1: think you got a misunderstanding, man. I'm still salt of
[4:13] Speaker 1: the earth. You know what I'm saying?
[4:16] Speaker 2: But if you're really salt of the earth, you wait
[4:19] Speaker 2: out the couch and you bring over a chair and
[4:21] Speaker 2: that's your couch for the eight days that you don't
[4:24] Speaker 2: have one. We don't need to be entertaining people. We're
[4:27] Speaker 2: Watching sports, eating food on our lap on a chair.
[4:31] Speaker 1: That's salt of the earth. This is all I'm saying.
[4:35] Speaker 1: I had it in me to move a couch on
[4:38] Speaker 1: a dolly. That I felt like I could do.
[4:41] Speaker 2: Coming up next, Week on Waves.
[4:43] Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah.
[4:43] Speaker 2: Bomani Couch Moving Olympics.
[4:45] Speaker 1: That's right. What I feel like you out here doing
[4:47] Speaker 1: is you out here projecting your bourgeoisie attitudes and putting
[4:51] Speaker 1: them off on me, a real one. You know what
[4:53] Speaker 1: I'm saying?
[4:55] Speaker 2: I did. I spent weeks in Paris for Roland Garros
[4:59] Speaker 2: and it impacted me. One, I saw a move happen
[5:02] Speaker 2: right outside my hotel. where they set up a truck
[5:05] Speaker 2: and a conveyor belt and they moved this person's furniture
[5:09] Speaker 2: into their third bedroom, third floor apartment in like 40 minutes.
[5:14] Speaker 2: And I was like, why is that not a thing
[5:16] Speaker 2: anywhere else? Why are we all using elevators and dollies
[5:21] Speaker 2: and strapping things to our back? And the other thing
[5:23] Speaker 2: that really resonated with me was we got to the airport.
[5:26] Speaker 2: I was getting picked up by a car and the
[5:28] Speaker 2: guy looked at me and my wife and my baby
[5:31] Speaker 2: and all of our bags and went, oh, no, no, no, no, no.
[5:34] Speaker 2: And I said, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. We had
[5:37] Speaker 2: gotten a van, but the vans in Europe are not
[5:40] Speaker 2: big enough. And I just realized Americans live very different.
[5:43] Speaker 1: We do.
[5:44] Speaker 2: And I wasn't ready for it.
[5:46] Speaker 1: They are much more compact about space. Like New York
[5:49] Speaker 1: is more compact about space than the rest of America.
[5:51] Speaker 1: But those other places that are somehow actually they feel
[5:53] Speaker 1: more crowded. than new york city does not necessarily like
[5:57] Speaker 1: more people or like that avalanche but still just like
[6:00] Speaker 1: a little uh a little more crowded right this actually
[6:04] Speaker 1: dawned on me and i'm gonna get back to your
[6:06] Speaker 1: trip to paris and a rich people thought about moving
[6:08] Speaker 1: right quick before we talk about ashley's boy do you
[6:12] Speaker 1: ride the subway yes okay okay just making sure.
[6:15] Speaker 2: Not all the time I wouldn't do it today.
[6:18] Speaker 1: I do most of the time slash all of the time.
[6:21] Speaker 1: But today is.
[6:22] Speaker 2: So on a 99 degree day.
[6:23] Speaker 1: But today is a medical emergency. Like this is a little.
[6:26] Speaker 1: I opted out of going to do yoga at a
[6:28] Speaker 1: studio yesterday because I was just like, I'm not going
[6:31] Speaker 1: back outside. I made this mistake once. Yeah.
[6:34] Speaker 2: If it's hot, I'm not using the subway at all.
[6:36] Speaker 1: Yeah.
[6:37] Speaker 2: Yeah.
[6:37] Speaker 1: Yeah. And I'll.
[6:39] Speaker 2: Bro, I'm not trying to sweat and get stared at
[6:42] Speaker 2: and like bump into people. And then someone's trying to
[6:45] Speaker 2: sell me a candy bar. And then there's a drum solo.
[6:48] Speaker 2: Like sometimes, bro, like you talk about the Uber. Those
[6:52] Speaker 2: are the days where I'm going to go for an
[6:53] Speaker 2: extra $ 9. I'm going to get an Uber Black. Yeah.
[6:56] Speaker 2: And I'm going to really soak this in.
[6:58] Speaker 1: It's way more than an extra $ 9. But number two,
[7:03] Speaker 1: the richest thing I've heard of people doing in New York,
[7:06] Speaker 1: a mutual friend of ours used to work with a
[7:08] Speaker 1: very rich person. Um, and the very rich person lived
[7:12] Speaker 1: in a tall building. And what happens is those people
[7:15] Speaker 1: there sometimes, and this happens, I mean, this, this has
[7:19] Speaker 1: happened to me, but it's happens a lot in New
[7:21] Speaker 1: York buildings where you're, the hallways are too narrow for
[7:25] Speaker 1: them to turn the corner with your couch coming out
[7:27] Speaker 1: of the elevator. And so you have to make a
[7:29] Speaker 1: decision about how you want to do it with the couch.
[7:31] Speaker 1: And that will cut your couch in half for you
[7:35] Speaker 1: and then come put it back together. Or they'll figure
[7:38] Speaker 1: out like where it is under the stitching that they
[7:40] Speaker 1: can split in half and do all this. But the
[7:42] Speaker 1: real rich people, they got them couches that's made out
[7:45] Speaker 1: of one piece, right? You can't do that. Them jokers
[7:49] Speaker 1: get cranes.
[7:51] Speaker 2: Bezos just did this.
[7:52] Speaker 1: Yeah, you get a crane to hold your couch and
[7:56] Speaker 1: then they swang that bitch over the balcony and put
[7:59] Speaker 1: it there and then they bring it in.
[8:02] Speaker 2: One day, Bo, we'll be that lucky.
[8:04] Speaker 1: Yeah.
[8:04] Speaker 2: Crane couches.
[8:05] Speaker 1: Yeah. Like, that's what they do, right? And so they
[8:09] Speaker 1: swing that thing over there. Now... My next thing is,
[8:15] Speaker 1: as we get to you having gone to cover the
[8:17] Speaker 1: French Open at Roland Garros, I watched you on television.
[8:21] Speaker 1: You did a good job, and everybody that was watching
[8:24] Speaker 1: you said you did a good job. Like, they out
[8:26] Speaker 1: here killing other people doing television, not Lefkoe. No, sir.
[8:30] Speaker 1: Lefkoe and them got all the props, and then I
[8:32] Speaker 1: just realized you got a job that lets you take
[8:35] Speaker 1: your queen to gay Paris.
[8:39] Speaker 2: That was nice. That's a good sell. However, when you
[8:42] Speaker 2: take your wife and your baby to Paris for 10
[8:44] Speaker 2: days and there's no nanny and there's no grandma and
[8:46] Speaker 2: there's no grandpa, and by day seven, she walks to
[8:50] Speaker 2: the set with the baby and looks at me and goes,
[8:52] Speaker 2: I need something. I need some help right now. And
[8:55] Speaker 2: you're like, I have 15 hours of live television to do,
[8:59] Speaker 2: but give me the child.
[9:00] Speaker 1: You ain't bringing a nanny?
[9:02] Speaker 2: No.
[9:02] Speaker 1: What?
[9:03] Speaker 2: See, like now we're talking rich. That's rich, rich.
[9:06] Speaker 1: You got the free trip to Paris.
[9:10] Speaker 2: You got the free trip.
[9:11] Speaker 1: You had the free hotel. Like I hate to spend
[9:13] Speaker 1: your money.
[9:14] Speaker 2: It was the first trip. And I think we needed
[9:17] Speaker 2: to see, cause again, like you said, like you're going
[9:20] Speaker 2: to move a couch. We're going to take care of
[9:22] Speaker 2: our child, you know, but until you're four, until you're
[9:26] Speaker 2: turning that corner, until you're on day seven, you don't
[9:29] Speaker 2: realize what that's like. And it's wild. Well, I realized
[9:33] Speaker 2: it was amazing. It was amazing.
[9:34] Speaker 1: Among the nanny community. She is shitting on you, brother. Like,
[9:40] Speaker 1: one of the perks of the nanny life is the
[9:43] Speaker 1: occasional trip to the fly place.
[9:45] Speaker 2: Oh, no, you're absolutely wrong. She got paid to sit
[9:47] Speaker 2: at home and do nothing.
[9:49] Speaker 1: I think she'd rather gotten paid to go to Paris.
[9:52] Speaker 2: I don't know.
[9:53] Speaker 1: I think she'd rather gotten paid to go to Paris.
[9:55] Speaker 2: She's uh from saint vincent so her and her sisters
[9:59] Speaker 2: and brothers were partying i hear.
[10:00] Speaker 1: You i hear you i'm just telling you i feel
[10:03] Speaker 1: like when she gets around the other nannies they're like
[10:05] Speaker 1: you didn't go you didn't get to go to paris.
[10:07] Speaker 2: There well listen tnt has rolling arrows for 10 years
[10:11] Speaker 2: so hopefully they're listen like that's the cool part of
[10:15] Speaker 2: the job is man am i going to be doing
[10:17] Speaker 2: this every year for like the, my child's childhood. Like,
[10:22] Speaker 2: is he going to get like yearly trips to Paris? Um,
[10:26] Speaker 2: but no, the, the funny thing is this, um, I
[10:29] Speaker 2: have always been on the other side where a sporting
[10:31] Speaker 2: event goes so well that all of the broadcasters get
[10:35] Speaker 2: credit for it. And I'm not saying I didn't do
[10:38] Speaker 2: a good job, but what I'm saying is it was
[10:40] Speaker 2: really cool to be on the side where Alcaraz and
[10:43] Speaker 2: Sinner like fought for five and a half hours and
[10:46] Speaker 2: in a top five match all time. And people afterwards
[10:49] Speaker 2: were like, TNT did a great job. And I'm like,
[10:53] Speaker 2: we never give the athletes credit for making broadcasters see, like,
[10:58] Speaker 2: we're always like, wow, what a call. And it's like,
[11:01] Speaker 2: all right, well, that was the catch. You know, like,
[11:03] Speaker 2: or that was, you know, the miracle at the Meadowlands.
[11:06] Speaker 2: So I want to say thank you to center and
[11:08] Speaker 2: Alcaraz and Coco golf for giving us some awesome stuff.
[11:12] Speaker 1: I'm trying to remember what else was going on the
[11:14] Speaker 1: day of that center Alcaraz match, but I saw people
[11:16] Speaker 1: tweeting about it, but I never got around to like,
[11:20] Speaker 1: you didn't watch a single second. No, I didn't. I
[11:23] Speaker 1: found out it was, they played.
[11:24] Speaker 2: For five and a half hours and you weren't like.
[11:26] Speaker 1: No, but that's what, but that's what I think happened.
[11:28] Speaker 1: I think I found out about it. Something else was
[11:31] Speaker 1: going on. And this was in the course of me
[11:32] Speaker 1: moving and all of this stuff. Right. So cut me
[11:34] Speaker 1: some slack. But it was one of those where it
[11:37] Speaker 1: was like, oh, it's been going on so long. I mean, damn,
[11:39] Speaker 1: I already missed it. And then it went on for
[11:41] Speaker 1: like another hour and a half type situation.
[11:44] Speaker 2: It's what was really cool to be a part of
[11:47] Speaker 2: is it was cool to be a part of a
[11:49] Speaker 2: sport that everybody went, man, Rafa and Federer and Djokovic
[11:54] Speaker 2: are all done. This sport's going to dip like the NBA.
[11:57] Speaker 2: Once they lost MJ, there was a dip. You know,
[12:01] Speaker 2: we do this with all sports. Tom Brady lost. And
[12:04] Speaker 2: then for these two dudes to come along and go, oh,
[12:08] Speaker 2: they're going to carry it for the next two decades.
[12:10] Speaker 2: And this is the first time they've ever faced off
[12:13] Speaker 2: in a final. That's cool. It's kind of, it felt
[12:15] Speaker 2: like a seminal moment for the sport itself.
[12:18] Speaker 1: I think that a sport like tennis is always going
[12:20] Speaker 1: to be okay in that regard because nobody really like,
[12:24] Speaker 1: There are those great players who stuck around forever, but
[12:26] Speaker 1: not redefining players. Like no game is really quite as static.
[12:31] Speaker 1: There aren't as many rule changes that you can make
[12:34] Speaker 1: to change. The equipment changes over the years, of course,
[12:37] Speaker 1: with the big one. But we're so far beyond the
[12:39] Speaker 1: shift from wooden rackets to the graphite for that, like
[12:42] Speaker 1: to really even count or to be the thing. It
[12:45] Speaker 1: is the game that it basically always is. And then
[12:47] Speaker 1: there's just somebody that's way better than everybody else. And
[12:50] Speaker 1: when two people are really good at tennis and they
[12:52] Speaker 1: play against each other in tennis, it's really, really interesting
[12:55] Speaker 1: to watch, right? And the French Open makes it better
[12:57] Speaker 1: because once you have the advances in the technology, the
[13:02] Speaker 1: long rallies, the French Open still gives you the long rallies.
[13:05] Speaker 2: It gives you those. And I, dude, so again, learning
[13:08] Speaker 2: a new sport is crazy because when you've been in
[13:12] Speaker 2: sports for 20 years, you kind of think you know
[13:14] Speaker 2: a lot. And then you start watching the tennis channel
[13:17] Speaker 2: every day and you're watching clay court season. And I'm learning,
[13:21] Speaker 2: you know, all these Sabalenkas and Svianteks, these names and
[13:26] Speaker 2: where they're from and all that. But then like they
[13:29] Speaker 2: just started playing on grass. They're getting ready for Wimbledon.
[13:31] Speaker 2: And I put on a match and I went, oh,
[13:33] Speaker 2: this is a different sport. Like it's a completely different sport.
[13:37] Speaker 2: All the players that were really good at clay are
[13:39] Speaker 2: not great on grass. And so I feel it's cool
[13:44] Speaker 2: to be learning something for the first time. Like I
[13:47] Speaker 2: always watch tennis, but like you don't really study it.
[13:51] Speaker 2: And I think I had been in NBA and NFL
[13:54] Speaker 2: world for so long, it felt nice to actually learn again.
[13:57] Speaker 2: It's good for the brain.
[13:58] Speaker 1: I feel that. Now, let me ask you, speaking of NBA,
[14:01] Speaker 1: you are a resident Philadelphian, which I only have a
[14:05] Speaker 1: problem with if it's baseball season. God, I hate the Phillies.
[14:08] Speaker 2: Who's your team? Braves?
[14:10] Speaker 1: I grew up with the Braves. Yeah.
[14:12] Speaker 2: Man, what a shitty year for you right now, huh?
[14:16] Speaker 1: I have a relationship with the Braves now where if
[14:19] Speaker 1: it's going well, I'm here.
[14:21] Speaker 2: If not Bryce Harper, the original Caitlin Clark of baseball.
[14:24] Speaker 1: Anyway, no, no, no. I actually find the Bryce Harper
[14:26] Speaker 1: story to be so interesting because we were all so
[14:30] Speaker 1: sure that he was going to be a jerk. And
[14:31] Speaker 1: it really turned out to be the opposite case.
[14:33] Speaker 2: And he was great.
[14:34] Speaker 1: You know, like like we were. There's no way any
[14:37] Speaker 1: of us thought that after the Sports Illustrated cover when
[14:40] Speaker 1: he was in high school and all of that stuff.
[14:42] Speaker 1: there's no way possible that anybody could have thought that
[14:44] Speaker 1: he would turn out to be the personality archetype that
[14:47] Speaker 1: he actually is. Like a player perfectly made for Philadelphia.
[14:52] Speaker 1: None of us, none of us would have had that.
[14:56] Speaker 2: It's not to transition for you, but there are things
[14:59] Speaker 2: that young people do that we unfairly criticize them for,
[15:03] Speaker 2: for a while. And Ace Bailey's doing that right now.
[15:07] Speaker 1: That is. So I think all of us thought going
[15:10] Speaker 1: into this draft, whoever gets the number three pick, They're
[15:13] Speaker 1: going to take Ace Bailey, right?
[15:15] Speaker 2: Take him.
[15:15] Speaker 1: But one thing that happened that is amazing, they told
[15:18] Speaker 1: us he was 6'10 and he's 6'7 and a half.
[15:22] Speaker 2: Brother, they were telling us he was 6'11.
[15:23] Speaker 1: Yo, first of all.
[15:25] Speaker 2: I covered early on Alabama Rutgers. It was like game
[15:29] Speaker 2: two or three. I was in studio. And one, I
[15:33] Speaker 2: watched Dylan Harper and I went, this is Cade Cunningham 2.0. Like,
[15:36] Speaker 2: this guy's incredible. But then every time Ace Bailey took
[15:39] Speaker 2: a shot, I went, and he's 6'11. And he's 6'7 1⁄2.
[15:43] Speaker 1: Right. How did nobody call bullshit on this? The difference
[15:48] Speaker 1: between 6'7 1⁄2 and 6'10, 6'11, is nuts. But that's
[15:52] Speaker 1: what they told us. And I will say this, though.
[15:55] Speaker 1: He sure felt like he was 6'10, those few times
[15:58] Speaker 1: I watched him play.
[15:59] Speaker 2: He looked really long, yeah.
[16:00] Speaker 1: He, so there are people who believe that he is
[16:05] Speaker 1: intentionally taking his draft stock to get to whichever team
[16:09] Speaker 1: that he wants to get to. And I've heard a
[16:10] Speaker 1: couple of teams. I don't think it's responsible.
[16:11] Speaker 2: New Orleans and Washington.
[16:14] Speaker 1: Okay. So yeah, New Orleans is the one that I heard.
[16:16] Speaker 1: That's crazy.
[16:17] Speaker 2: Right.
[16:17] Speaker 1: If you're, if you're playing, if your plan is to
[16:19] Speaker 1: get to New Orleans, I can kind of see it.
[16:22] Speaker 1: If your plan is to get to the Wizards, I
[16:23] Speaker 1: can only assume that you guys are losers.
[16:26] Speaker 2: Right.
[16:26] Speaker 1: Like, why would you? Why would you? What? I'm 44
[16:30] Speaker 1: years old and the Wizards haven't won 50 games in
[16:33] Speaker 1: my life. I've been doing that bit right there for
[16:38] Speaker 1: 15 years. No correction for 18 years. And I've never
[16:42] Speaker 1: had to stop. I think they got to 49 one time.
[16:45] Speaker 1: But he I admit this also. There is a certain
[16:50] Speaker 1: level of assumption that I make about how good Mr.
[16:54] Speaker 1: Bailey is. based on the fact that he has convinced
[16:57] Speaker 1: all these people to call him Ace. What's his actual name? A-I-R-U-S,
[17:01] Speaker 1: I believe.
[17:05] Speaker 2: A-I-R-U-S.
[17:07] Speaker 1: Yeah, let me look this up. You get everybody to
[17:10] Speaker 1: call you a name like Ace, then I'm like, A-I-R-I-O-U-S.
[17:14] Speaker 2: Dude, we called Daniel Gibson Boobie his entire career.
[17:17] Speaker 1: Yeah, but see, that's different though, right? Boobie is clearly
[17:20] Speaker 1: what your mom and your people called you and then
[17:21] Speaker 1: somebody went home and- Could have been Ace. No, but Ace.
[17:25] Speaker 1: I'm trying to think of other nicknames like- That's like
[17:28] Speaker 1: when they call you Shaq. You're something if they make
[17:32] Speaker 1: the decision to call you Shaq. You're a big guy,
[17:34] Speaker 1: if nothing else, if they decide to call you Shaq.
[17:35] Speaker 2: So you're saying the nickname, the name Ace, you have
[17:39] Speaker 2: to be a top three pick.
[17:40] Speaker 1: Got it. That implies that you a beast for real.
[17:43] Speaker 1: You know, like those people who named their kids. Actually,
[17:46] Speaker 1: it's going to be kind of funny. These people who
[17:48] Speaker 1: named their kids King Ace.
[17:50] Speaker 2: You're an asshole.
[17:51] Speaker 1: No, I didn't do it on purpose. It dawned on
[17:53] Speaker 1: me as I started. I didn't do it on purpose. No,
[17:55] Speaker 1: but King and Prince are different spaces, right?
[17:57] Speaker 2: My son's name is Prince.
[17:58] Speaker 1: Yeah, Prince is a different space. But when you go
[18:00] Speaker 1: all the way to King, right? Because look, when you
[18:03] Speaker 1: name him Prince, he's still a prince, right? Like he's
[18:06] Speaker 1: still in this space. When you go all the way
[18:08] Speaker 1: to King, that motherfucker better be a beast.
[18:11] Speaker 2: Well, you know, our second child, which we haven't created yet,
[18:14] Speaker 2: but we might go Lord Lefkoe.
[18:16] Speaker 1: That's what I'm saying.
[18:17] Speaker 2: Really?
[18:17] Speaker 1: That's what I'm saying. Like, once you go there, you
[18:20] Speaker 1: are telling this kid, the expectations are very clear.
[18:23] Speaker 2: Yeah, honestly, I don't. After calling the first one Prince,
[18:26] Speaker 2: I don't know where I'm going on the second one.
[18:27] Speaker 1: Yeah.
[18:27] Speaker 2: Because I can't be like, this is Prince and this
[18:29] Speaker 2: is Todd.
[18:29] Speaker 1: Yeah.
[18:30] Speaker 2: I can't do that.
[18:31] Speaker 1: See, to me, once you go with naming the kid Prince- Okay.
[18:35] Speaker 2: How did this turn into this? We're focused on age.
[18:38] Speaker 1: Okay, I'm just saying. All I'm saying is this. Prince
[18:40] Speaker 1: sounds like you may never have to get a job, right?
[18:42] Speaker 1: King sounds like you're the ruler of the world. There's
[18:45] Speaker 1: space between those two things, right? Naming him Prince actually
[18:49] Speaker 1: makes you king, right?
[18:52] Speaker 2: Quick aside. Have you heard of the Mariners catcher Cal
[18:57] Speaker 2: Rowling's nickname? The Big Dumper? Oh, I did.
[19:02] Speaker 1: Nah, can't be.
[19:02] Speaker 2: Incredible. Yes, I knew you didn't know. For those that
[19:06] Speaker 2: don't watch baseball, I'm watching a lot of baseball right now.
[19:08] Speaker 2: Kyle Rowley leads major leagues with 32 home runs. He's
[19:11] Speaker 2: on pace for 67. He's a freaking catcher. And his
[19:14] Speaker 2: very popular nickname is The Big Dumper, which a teammate
[19:18] Speaker 2: gave to him because you know why.
[19:20] Speaker 1: Nah, buddy. We're not taking that out of the locker room.
[19:23] Speaker 1: Or excuse me, the clubhouse. Sorry.
[19:26] Speaker 2: I was going to say, but now the nickname has
[19:27] Speaker 2: taken on a life of its own. Even his mom said, hey,
[19:30] Speaker 2: I'm not really a fan of it, but it's so popular.
[19:33] Speaker 2: Now you're getting known for your butt. You're the big dumper.
[19:36] Speaker 1: You got to come up with another one. You got
[19:37] Speaker 1: to come up with another one because your partners ain't
[19:39] Speaker 1: even supposed to know that. Baseball dudes are kind of weird.
[19:44] Speaker 1: Baseball is... like that is.
[19:48] Speaker 2: Yeah baseball made me think of this do we look
[19:51] Speaker 2: back at some of these nicknames with a little bit
[19:53] Speaker 2: difference now the big unit you know randy.
[19:56] Speaker 1: Johnson i admit that even then i was kind of
[19:58] Speaker 1: like huh what are we what are we going for.
[20:00] Speaker 2: Here oscar robertson the big oh.
[20:07] Speaker 1: I see i see the vision And.
[20:09] Speaker 2: Then I still think the name that has cracked me
[20:11] Speaker 2: out my entire life is Magic Johnson, but that's just me.
[20:15] Speaker 1: Look, okay, this is another great point in line with
[20:18] Speaker 1: what I was saying about Ace. Now, granted, they didn't
[20:20] Speaker 1: start calling Magic Johnson Magic until college, but the point
[20:24] Speaker 1: of how cold Magic Johnson is is we just call
[20:27] Speaker 1: him that. We don't even act like it's weird. We
[20:31] Speaker 1: just call him that. Who's that?
[20:32] Speaker 2: Magic.
[20:33] Speaker 1: You know how good you have to be for us
[20:35] Speaker 1: to be like, yeah, you're Magic. We didn't walk around
[20:37] Speaker 1: calling Jordan Ayer Magic.
[20:41] Speaker 2: He had a few good nicknames. The Black Cat.
[20:43] Speaker 1: The Black Cat is.
[20:45] Speaker 2: But yeah, okay. So my thing with Ace, and I
[20:48] Speaker 2: thought as a Philadelphia fan, I was very offended when
[20:52] Speaker 2: he turned down the workout and the interview when apparently
[20:56] Speaker 2: they had reservations. So, you know, man, tough get at
[20:59] Speaker 2: the Continental in Philly or the Four Seasons. But then
[21:03] Speaker 2: also threw out the first pitch for the Mets the
[21:06] Speaker 2: same weekend. That, to me, was diabolical. For him to
[21:11] Speaker 2: be like, Daryl Morey, I'm not meeting with you, and
[21:13] Speaker 2: now I'm wearing the blue hat of the New York
[21:15] Speaker 2: Mets was crazy. I just feel like he doesn't fit.
[21:22] Speaker 2: Once it came out that he wasn't 6'11, then you
[21:25] Speaker 2: start looking at the advanced analytics, and the advanced analytics
[21:29] Speaker 2: community doesn't like him at all in terms of assists
[21:32] Speaker 2: and athleticism and all this stuff. Then I just started going,
[21:36] Speaker 2: these are the actions of someone who knows the Sixers
[21:39] Speaker 2: are likely not going to take him and are trying
[21:42] Speaker 2: to say, you know what? I don't even want to
[21:45] Speaker 2: go there. So for me, it seems more defensive than aggressive.
[21:51] Speaker 2: I don't know. I mean, the Sixers, how can you
[21:53] Speaker 2: trust anything they do? But at the same time, you
[21:56] Speaker 2: talk about him wanting to go to Washington. The Pacers
[22:00] Speaker 2: aren't going to have Halliburton next season. The Celtics aren't
[22:02] Speaker 2: going to have Tatum next season. The Knicks don't have
[22:05] Speaker 2: a coach right now. No one trusts the Cleveland Cavaliers
[22:08] Speaker 2: for anything. Orlando is now a top three team in
[22:12] Speaker 2: the East, according to Vegas. And I'm sitting there going,
[22:15] Speaker 2: the Pistons are 19-1 to win the East. That might
[22:18] Speaker 2: not be crazy. And then meanwhile, you got a maybe
[22:22] Speaker 2: healthy Embiid who won the MVP last If Paul George
[22:26] Speaker 2: comes back to life in year two, you got Halliburton,
[22:29] Speaker 2: you got McCain, you got all these guys, and you
[22:32] Speaker 2: add Ace Bailey, Ace Bailey can learn from Paul George. Like,
[22:35] Speaker 2: it's a really good situation if you're Ace Bailey. You
[22:38] Speaker 2: got a coach that won a championship. It's just people go, well,
[22:43] Speaker 2: Philly's going to Philly. Like, it's a really good spot
[22:45] Speaker 2: for Ace, but I just don't want the guy that's
[22:50] Speaker 2: shorter than we thought he was, slower than he thought
[22:53] Speaker 2: he was, and doesn't show up to workouts. Like, I just,
[22:56] Speaker 2: that guy doesn't have a good track record in my mind.
[22:59] Speaker 2: Because Anthony Edwards didn't go work out for teams. But
[23:02] Speaker 2: then I put on Anthony Edwards at Georgia Highlights last night.
[23:05] Speaker 2: And I went, oh, no, no. He didn't have to
[23:07] Speaker 2: go to work out.
[23:08] Speaker 1: No, no.
[23:09] Speaker 2: This is a different guy.
[23:10] Speaker 1: Yeah, he's in the Deion Sanders. Where are y'all picking? 18?
[23:12] Speaker 1: I ain't going to be there at 18.
[23:14] Speaker 2: I'm not going to be there. There's a difference. Ace
[23:18] Speaker 2: is not that. That was different.
[23:21] Speaker 1: Here's my Ace Bailey advanced statistic. And it's also a
[23:25] Speaker 1: Dylan Harper advanced statistic. You're telling me that we're looking
[23:30] Speaker 1: at two to three top picks in the draft and
[23:34] Speaker 1: y'all didn't make the tournament.
[23:37] Speaker 2: Like, I don't know.
[23:38] Speaker 1: I don't know. I don't know. Bingo. I don't know
[23:41] Speaker 1: how either one of them shakes that because we tried
[23:43] Speaker 1: to write that off with Ben Simmons. And yeah, I.
[23:46] Speaker 2: Think Markel Fultz.
[23:47] Speaker 1: Yeah.
[23:47] Speaker 2: And to be fair, Anthony Edwards was less under 500,
[23:50] Speaker 2: but that was different.
[23:51] Speaker 1: Yeah. But I also think, and I think I felt
[23:53] Speaker 1: the same way about Fultz. Like we never saw the
[23:55] Speaker 1: Fultz that people were talking about that got us in.
[23:58] Speaker 1: But with Simmons, to be fair to him, what doomed
[24:02] Speaker 1: him is probably not what made them a team that
[24:04] Speaker 1: didn't make the tournament. Right. Like what ultimately caught up
[24:06] Speaker 1: with him. But these two guys, it's two of you.
[24:10] Speaker 1: How in the world two of you get to play
[24:12] Speaker 1: at the same time? And y'all didn't make the tournament.
[24:15] Speaker 1: I don't care if you're Rutgers or not. Why the
[24:18] Speaker 1: hell did y'all go there anyway? I know, but.
[24:21] Speaker 2: Same reason AJ DeBanso went to BYU.
[24:24] Speaker 1: No, that's still... That is the low-key.
[24:26] Speaker 2: Their games will be on TNT this fall.
[24:29] Speaker 1: That is the low-key amazing story of the year that's
[24:31] Speaker 1: coming up. How do you say his last name again?
[24:33] Speaker 2: I think it's DeBanso.
[24:34] Speaker 1: Okay, so it is this young man. I can't remember
[24:37] Speaker 1: where in Africa he is from, but he's an African cat.
[24:41] Speaker 1: And he went to high school in Utah because the
[24:44] Speaker 1: dude that owns the Jazz floated the bread for him
[24:47] Speaker 1: to go to high school there.
[24:48] Speaker 2: Shout out Ryan Smith.
[24:49] Speaker 1: Yeah, Ryan Smith, yes. And then he's also the guy
[24:52] Speaker 1: that owns their hockey team. But anyway, then they got
[24:54] Speaker 1: him to go to BYU because watch out, BYU is
[24:57] Speaker 1: going to be a player in this NIL era because
[24:58] Speaker 1: that church got cash. So... They got him to go there.
[25:02] Speaker 1: And obviously the plan for Utah is to try to
[25:06] Speaker 1: then draft him. But that's not really the draft of
[25:08] Speaker 1: the lottery doesn't work that well. So how is Ryan
[25:11] Speaker 1: Smith going to figure out how to get the full
[25:13] Speaker 1: payoff with his investment?
[25:15] Speaker 2: Just to clarify, he was. grew up in Massachusetts. Now
[25:19] Speaker 2: he is of Congolese and Jamaican origin. His father grew
[25:22] Speaker 2: up in France, but he is a Boston kid.
[25:25] Speaker 1: Okay. Thank you. That is a, wait a minute.
[25:27] Speaker 2: I just want to clarify.
[25:28] Speaker 1: So he got a Congolese Boston accent.
[25:32] Speaker 2: Congolese Jamaican.
[25:34] Speaker 1: Yeah.
[25:35] Speaker 2: What a combo. And now he's been hanging out with Mormons.
[25:38] Speaker 1: Yes. I don't know. I can't, I got so many
[25:42] Speaker 1: questions about that.
[25:43] Speaker 2: My, my pair, my father and mother-in-law. When they came
[25:48] Speaker 2: over from Nigeria to go to school, the first place
[25:51] Speaker 2: they moved to was Utah. And they were there for two,
[25:54] Speaker 2: three years. And they said it was like, look, Nigerian
[25:58] Speaker 2: people love everybody for the most part. But they say
[26:02] Speaker 2: the people in Utah were the nicest people ever. I
[26:05] Speaker 2: don't think I told this story before, but when my
[26:07] Speaker 2: wife's oldest brother was born in a Utah hospital, there
[26:10] Speaker 2: was a line around the corner of doctors saying, And
[26:14] Speaker 2: my wife's parents were in line and one of the
[26:16] Speaker 2: doctors came and got him and said, you shouldn't be
[26:18] Speaker 2: in this line. And they were in the line because
[26:20] Speaker 2: none of them had seen a black newborn before.
[26:22] Speaker 1: Wow.
[26:24] Speaker 2: And it was like 40 doctors and nurses. But of course, like,
[26:27] Speaker 2: you know, Nigerians, they were like, of course, everybody wants
[26:30] Speaker 2: to see our child. He is the chosen child. Like
[26:34] Speaker 2: this child is the greatest. That's why they call their
[26:37] Speaker 2: kids prince.
[26:38] Speaker 1: They have never seen brilliants. Yes.
[26:40] Speaker 2: Like this.
[26:42] Speaker 1: But.
[26:43] Speaker 2: It's looked at. I had a great time at the
[26:46] Speaker 2: Salt Lake City All-Star game. I mean, you can't really
[26:49] Speaker 2: go out till two, three in the morning, so you
[26:51] Speaker 2: can't live that life. But I thought it was fun.
[26:53] Speaker 1: I have had multiple people tell me that the wildest
[26:56] Speaker 1: night of their lives were in Salt Lake City.
[26:59] Speaker 2: That's scary. I will say this. The one player that
[27:02] Speaker 2: I would take after Cooper Flagg and Dylan Harper that
[27:07] Speaker 2: I'm not really seeing people talk about. It's the BYU
[27:11] Speaker 2: kid that's not going to be there, which is Agor Demmon.
[27:14] Speaker 2: He's like this 6'9 point guard. Go on the YouTube,
[27:18] Speaker 2: watch the highlights. Because I have to do March Madness,
[27:22] Speaker 2: and so you watch a lot of college basketball, and
[27:24] Speaker 2: I just watch this 6'9 point guard stopping and hitting
[27:29] Speaker 2: threes and diming. And I would take, that's my guy.
[27:32] Speaker 2: I think it's important to have a guy. You know,
[27:35] Speaker 2: you can argue about the Ace Bailey's and stuff, but
[27:36] Speaker 2: who's your guy? My guy's Agor Demmon.
[27:39] Speaker 1: I can be honest with you, brother.
[27:41] Speaker 2: Never seen him.
[27:41] Speaker 1: You could have told me BYU had a three-legged, red-headed
[27:44] Speaker 1: Chinese point guard, and I'd have had no clue whatsoever.
[27:51] Speaker 1: I'm familiar with that dude who plays for Florida.
[27:56] Speaker 2: Walter Clayton Jr.
[27:56] Speaker 1: Here we go. Yeah, Pops. That is a very Pops name. Walter?
[28:02] Speaker 2: Yeah, it is a tough one. It does. It sounds
[28:06] Speaker 2: like a fake name that you give it a name.
[28:08] Speaker 1: Honestly, his dad is too young to be Walter Sr. Like,
[28:12] Speaker 1: his dad should be a junior or a third if
[28:15] Speaker 1: we're still out here cranking out Walters.
[28:17] Speaker 2: In our profession of broadcasting, how do draft experts avoid
[28:23] Speaker 2: all blowback for being wrong all the time?
[28:27] Speaker 1: A recognition that it's a very difficult job.
[28:30] Speaker 2: But then they get called experts. So how do we
[28:34] Speaker 2: simultaneously go, no one can be good at this, and
[28:36] Speaker 2: then be like, and now, our expert.
[28:38] Speaker 1: I'm just saying.
[28:39] Speaker 2: How do we do that?
[28:40] Speaker 1: Ty Cobb was the all-time leader in batting average at 367, right?
[28:45] Speaker 1: This is more like a batting average sport than it
[28:47] Speaker 1: is a free throw percentage sport that we're talking about.
[28:50] Speaker 1: That is the argument.
[28:53] Speaker 2: Because that made me think of Mel Kuyper. who went
[28:56] Speaker 2: very viral this year for arguing about Shador Sanders, who
[29:01] Speaker 2: I kind of feel like is suffering the same fate
[29:04] Speaker 2: as A.S. Bailey from this.
[29:06] Speaker 1: But getting horrendous advice from whoever's telling you what to do?
[29:10] Speaker 2: Number one. But I also think, number two, you and
[29:14] Speaker 2: I have both worked for websites that were, it was
[29:17] Speaker 2: very important for clicks. Yes. And as soon as a
[29:21] Speaker 2: draft would end, it would go, okay, here are The
[29:26] Speaker 2: first round mock draft for next year. And because we
[29:30] Speaker 2: worked for those websites, we knew, well, this is a
[29:32] Speaker 2: bunch of crap. Like, who knows? Like, they're just taking
[29:35] Speaker 2: the top ranked sophomores or juniors right Shador was listed
[29:40] Speaker 2: as a top two pick. Ace Bailey was listed as
[29:43] Speaker 2: a top three pick before their seasons began. And I
[29:47] Speaker 2: feel like they had it in their heads the entire season.
[29:50] Speaker 2: I'm that guy. So I'm going to go through the
[29:52] Speaker 2: draft prospect as the guy from a year ago. And
[29:57] Speaker 2: people were like, well, why would you think this? Well,
[29:59] Speaker 2: because the entire off season and beginning of the year,
[30:02] Speaker 2: you called me a top three pick. I think these
[30:06] Speaker 2: bullshit mock drafts, these way too early mock drafts that
[30:11] Speaker 2: we know are nonsense is impacting the youth. That's what
[30:15] Speaker 2: I think.
[30:15] Speaker 1: I think there's something to that, right? And this is
[30:17] Speaker 1: the generation that comes up with star lists, right? So
[30:19] Speaker 1: like you come up as whatever star guy. Now, of course,
[30:22] Speaker 1: Shadurah Sanders should know I came up as a no
[30:24] Speaker 1: star or a two star or three star or whatever
[30:26] Speaker 1: it was, right? So these things can only have so
[30:29] Speaker 1: much credence. But we got to go make a little
[30:32] Speaker 1: money right fast. But when we come back, If you
[30:35] Speaker 1: listened to the last time Adam Lefkoe was on here,
[30:38] Speaker 1: he's going to turn the tables on things. Find out
[30:40] Speaker 1: what I mean on the right time. Let me tell
[30:44] Speaker 1: you about Z Biotics pre-alcohol probiotic. Z Biotics pre-alcohol probiotic
[30:50] Speaker 1: drink is the world's first genetically engineered probiotic. It was
[30:54] Speaker 1: invented by PhD scientists to tackle rough mornings after drinking.
[30:58] Speaker 1: Here's how it works. When you drink, alcohol gets converted
[31:01] Speaker 1: into a toxic byproduct in the gut. It's a buildup
[31:04] Speaker 1: of this byproduct, not dehydration, that's to blame for rough
[31:09] Speaker 1: days after drinking. Pre-alcohol produces an enzyme to break this
[31:13] Speaker 1: byproduct down. Just remember to make pre-alcohol your first drink
[31:17] Speaker 1: of the night. Drink responsibly and you'll feel your best tomorrow.
[31:22] Speaker 1: Summer is here, which means more opportunities to celebrate the
[31:25] Speaker 1: warm weather. Before that backyard barbecue brew, glass of pinot
[31:29] Speaker 1: watching the sunset at the beach, or cocktail by the campfire,
[31:33] Speaker 1: don't forget your Zebiotics pre-alcohol. Drink one before drinking and
[31:37] Speaker 1: wake up feeling great and ready to take on the
[31:39] Speaker 1: next day in all that summer has to offer. Go

[33:24] Speaker 1: That's Cash App. We are back with, I always say
[33:29] Speaker 1: Adam Lefkoe, but I forget he a one-name star over
[33:31] Speaker 1: there at Turner. When I went in- I'm back.
[33:33] Speaker 2: You can do Adam.
[33:34] Speaker 1: You can do Adam. Thank you for permission, sir. I
[33:37] Speaker 1: appreciate that. When I did the alt cast with you,
[33:39] Speaker 1: which I was.
[33:40] Speaker 2: Very- You're a Beaumont-y.
[33:42] Speaker 1: That's different though. Well, no, it's not. Anyway. Yeah, yeah.
[33:46] Speaker 1: You're not wrong. How often do.
[33:48] Speaker 2: People call you Mr. Jones? I mean, at the bank-
[33:54] Speaker 2: They better say Mr. Joe.
[33:55] Speaker 1: We all let that sit. We all let that sit.
[33:58] Speaker 1: They either made it really funny or even more obnoxious.
[34:01] Speaker 2: Yeah, you know that if you show up to the
[34:02] Speaker 2: bank one time and they're like, hey, Bomani, and you're like,
[34:04] Speaker 2: are my funds okay?
[34:05] Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, like, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa. Now, here's
[34:07] Speaker 1: the thing about it. They either call you Mr. or
[34:08] Speaker 1: they don't call you nothing. You know what I'm saying?
[34:10] Speaker 1: Like like they're not they're not hitting you with the
[34:13] Speaker 1: intermediate step in that. But I did the all cast
[34:16] Speaker 1: with Adam Lefkoe and Vince Carter and Chris Haynes. And
[34:20] Speaker 1: I was really disappointed. I was hoping that we were
[34:21] Speaker 1: going to do it again this year for no other
[34:23] Speaker 1: reason than it paid by the game. And it was
[34:25] Speaker 1: a lot of fun.
[34:26] Speaker 2: You were you were making.
[34:26] Speaker 1: Oh, God, it was so good. But it was such
[34:29] Speaker 1: a great time. Like, I really enjoyed that. I was
[34:30] Speaker 1: very disappointed that we did not do that again.
[34:35] Speaker 2: There was a lot of changes this year in media.
[34:38] Speaker 1: Well, there was that, right? And I'm still not sure
[34:41] Speaker 1: if Chris got over it when they asked me if
[34:44] Speaker 1: me and Chris Hayes did a podcast, what it would
[34:46] Speaker 1: be called. And I was like, oh, the Beaumont Jones Show.
[34:49] Speaker 1: I don't think he thought that was nearly as funny.
[34:50] Speaker 2: As I did. But yeah, I have questions for you.
[34:56] Speaker 2: I have 50 questions for you.
[34:57] Speaker 1: All right.
[34:58] Speaker 2: And I just need you to pick a number one
[35:00] Speaker 2: through 50. And I'm going to go through, it's called
[35:02] Speaker 2: Lefkoe GPT. It's random questions that I may or may
[35:06] Speaker 2: not have eaten a cookie and thought about that I
[35:09] Speaker 2: thought you would enjoy.
[35:10] Speaker 1: All right.
[35:10] Speaker 2: So whenever you're ready.
[35:11] Speaker 1: My mother's birthday was yesterday, the 23rd. So I am
[35:14] Speaker 1: going to go with 23. Okay. 23. I like that.
[35:17] Speaker 2: 23 is my Gen Z question.
[35:18] Speaker 1: Oh, no.
[35:25] Speaker 2: I don't know if you saw, but after the title,
[35:27] Speaker 2: Oklahoma City partied for reported 8 to 10 minutes. Reporters
[35:31] Speaker 2: were saying it was the most subdued locker room they
[35:34] Speaker 2: had ever seen. J-Dub took his first ever drink of
[35:38] Speaker 2: alcohol and called it disgusting. Recent studies say that Gen
[35:43] Speaker 2: Z drinks 20% less than millennials. Are the championship ragers
[35:48] Speaker 2: a thing of the past?
[35:49] Speaker 1: So I found that to be interesting. Also, I, as non-drinker,
[35:54] Speaker 1: was like, huh, good for you kids, right? Like you
[35:57] Speaker 1: guys are not getting pressured into this because that's a
[35:59] Speaker 1: very easy thing that can happen. Are the championship ragers over? Nah,
[36:05] Speaker 1: because I don't know if a team this young, like
[36:08] Speaker 1: this isn't necessarily going to be a thing. Like I
[36:10] Speaker 1: want to see how the zoomers- Is.
[36:12] Speaker 2: This not the canary in the coal mine to show
[36:14] Speaker 2: us what these kids, like you just think when they
[36:16] Speaker 2: turn 26, they're going to start drinking?
[36:18] Speaker 1: Well, no, I think that the next year, if you
[36:21] Speaker 1: get a team with a few more grownups, it'll start
[36:23] Speaker 1: looking a little different. it is entirely possible that as
[36:27] Speaker 1: things go on, as life goes on, them boys start
[36:30] Speaker 1: turning to the bottle a little differently. You never know
[36:35] Speaker 1: how it's going to play. But what I thought was
[36:37] Speaker 1: most interesting was Alice Caruso being the only person that
[36:41] Speaker 1: knew how to open a champagne bottle. And I think
[36:44] Speaker 1: that this is a function partially of Zoomer and partially
[36:47] Speaker 1: of We live in Oklahoma City. This stuff just doesn't
[36:51] Speaker 1: come up in our world. Apparently, I don't know what
[36:54] Speaker 1: they spent all night doing, playing Fortnite and, well, I
[36:58] Speaker 1: won't say that other part, but playing a lot of Fortnite.
[37:01] Speaker 2: After Coco Gauff won the finals in studio and they're going, hey,
[37:08] Speaker 2: we're probably going to get Coco Gauff in the next
[37:09] Speaker 2: hour or two for an interview. Oh, amazing. I had
[37:13] Speaker 2: a runner go and get us seven bottles of champagne
[37:16] Speaker 2: and my idea was should we just do an NBA
[37:19] Speaker 2: locker celebration with Coco and I'm sitting there with like
[37:22] Speaker 2: Jim Currier and Chrissy Everett they're like we're not getting
[37:25] Speaker 2: sprayed by champagne I was like okay never mind never
[37:27] Speaker 2: mind but then when she came in I said here
[37:30] Speaker 2: you go and she goes I've never popped a bottle
[37:32] Speaker 2: of champagne before and I was like really so I
[37:36] Speaker 2: taught her how to do it she popped it and
[37:38] Speaker 2: then she went I've never had champagne either and Cause
[37:41] Speaker 2: I'm 21 years old. And the last time I won,
[37:44] Speaker 2: I was 18 years old, the U S open. And
[37:47] Speaker 2: that was her first time. And I'm like, it's just
[37:50] Speaker 2: not a, you know, man, when we were 19, get
[37:53] Speaker 2: closing on 21.
[37:53] Speaker 1: Well, did you ever drink at all? Yeah. I had
[37:56] Speaker 1: my run. I had my run.
[37:57] Speaker 2: So you had the anticipation of drinking.
[38:00] Speaker 1: Yeah.
[38:00] Speaker 2: They don't even have that.
[38:01] Speaker 1: Yeah.
[38:02] Speaker 2: They're not interested.
[38:03] Speaker 1: That is. Yeah. That I did think that that was
[38:06] Speaker 1: a fascinating thing to watch. Just the idea that they
[38:09] Speaker 1: were just kind of like, no, we're going to do this.
[38:11] Speaker 1: They didn't go to Vegas. That shocked me because I
[38:15] Speaker 1: was certain that they would be on the first thing.
[38:18] Speaker 1: I would have been on the first thing smoking. The
[38:21] Speaker 1: only team I could think of that wasn't on the
[38:23] Speaker 1: first thing smoking was the Mavericks because they were already
[38:25] Speaker 1: in Miami and they just went and bought out Lyft.
[38:28] Speaker 2: Those are the ones that I think about are the
[38:30] Speaker 2: Mavericks at like a club in Miami. I also am curious.
[38:34] Speaker 2: I saw, and I guess it's always been like this.
[38:36] Speaker 2: There were like a lot of reporters in the locker
[38:38] Speaker 2: room that are like, you know, they go there expecting
[38:41] Speaker 2: to get champagne. Like they're the ones reporting that it
[38:43] Speaker 2: was lame. Yeah. I believe that there should be like
[38:46] Speaker 2: 20 minutes of no media. And if, but like maybe
[38:49] Speaker 2: there's cameras in the corner so we can document it.
[38:52] Speaker 2: But like, I would also have a hard time partying
[38:55] Speaker 2: if like, I don't know, like an older reporter was
[38:58] Speaker 2: there being like, how is this? Like, I wouldn't want
[39:01] Speaker 2: to party.
[39:01] Speaker 1: Wow, what a meme you just made there. But their collective, like, athletes'
[39:06] Speaker 1: collective ability to act like nobody's watching is amazing. Like
[39:09] Speaker 1: the whole, hey, we're playing in front of 20,000 people
[39:11] Speaker 1: and acting like nobody's watching. Like that is a crazy
[39:13] Speaker 1: thing to me generally that they are, you know, that
[39:15] Speaker 1: they could be able to do. But I also think
[39:17] Speaker 1: what happened in the rationale behind a lot of the
[39:19] Speaker 1: criticism from the reporters about that People who do drink
[39:23] Speaker 1: are made very uncomfortable quite often by people who do not.
[39:27] Speaker 1: And the people in there and we we work in
[39:29] Speaker 1: a hard drinking industry right they them kids not drinking
[39:33] Speaker 1: make a lot of people look at themselves like damn
[39:38] Speaker 1: what kind of life am i living because i didn't
[39:39] Speaker 1: even win the championship but i can't wait to go
[39:42] Speaker 1: get fucked up after we get out.
[39:43] Speaker 2: Of here i've never thought about it you are right
[39:47] Speaker 2: People in broadcasting and media love to get that drink
[39:50] Speaker 2: after work. And then they show you a completely different
[39:53] Speaker 2: side of themselves.
[39:54] Speaker 1: Yes.
[39:54] Speaker 2: And you're like, wait, this is who you are? Wow.
[39:58] Speaker 1: I had no idea. Yeah.
[40:01] Speaker 2: And in fact, I kind of like the other version.
[40:04] Speaker 2: I do have a follow-up for your question number 23,
[40:06] Speaker 2: because I think it gets to a bigger point. We
[40:10] Speaker 2: had people criticizing Tatum last year for not being original
[40:14] Speaker 2: with Kobe and Halliburton was getting some hate, I guess,
[40:17] Speaker 2: about like the D Wade stuff. This goes back to
[40:21] Speaker 2: this Gen Z. I'm watching graduations where people are putting
[40:24] Speaker 2: the chat GPT logo on their cap, just like admitting
[40:27] Speaker 2: that they use it. Are we also experiencing the death
[40:31] Speaker 2: of originality in sports? And is it their fault or
[40:35] Speaker 2: is it just like a copy and paste situation?
[40:38] Speaker 1: Like, will we ever get it back? No, I don't
[40:40] Speaker 1: think we'll get it back. And it's not just sports.
[40:41] Speaker 1: I just saw a trailer on TV the other day.
[40:44] Speaker 1: They're remaking I Know What You Did Last Summer. Right.
[40:49] Speaker 1: It's not like we're just like knocking off the dust
[40:51] Speaker 1: off classics and like giving a new spin on something. Right.
[40:54] Speaker 1: Like you could always break out Othello, for example.
[40:57] Speaker 2: Right.
[40:57] Speaker 1: Like, you know, like you've always got that. No, we
[41:00] Speaker 1: are some total like when they when they brought back
[41:03] Speaker 1: the great. But who are the chefs commercial for Snickers?
[41:06] Speaker 1: I can't tell if they brought it back as an
[41:10] Speaker 1: homage or they were just like they won't. They might
[41:13] Speaker 1: not even know. That this is what it was. But
[41:16] Speaker 1: everywhere across the board, I look at it in the
[41:18] Speaker 1: creation of all these things. Have you watched the studio,
[41:22] Speaker 1: the Seth Rogen joint on Apple TV?
[41:25] Speaker 2: I haven't, so I can't add.
[41:26] Speaker 1: Okay, so there's a running theme, and I'm not ruining
[41:30] Speaker 1: anything by saying this, but a running thing about it
[41:32] Speaker 1: is that studio owns the intellectual property for the Kool-Aid man.
[41:39] Speaker 1: And so it's all about making a Kool-Aid man movie
[41:42] Speaker 1: and how valuable it is that you have the IP
[41:45] Speaker 1: for something like the Kool-Aid man. But everything is knocking
[41:49] Speaker 1: the dust off of something that was already done. So
[41:51] Speaker 1: like the thing with Tatum, I didn't get I didn't
[41:54] Speaker 1: get on Tatum that hard because I was like, if
[41:56] Speaker 1: you live on your phone and live on the Internet
[41:59] Speaker 1: and on the Internet, people speak in meme. Then when
[42:02] Speaker 1: it becomes your time, you are going to speak in
[42:06] Speaker 1: a meme because that's what gets the people going when
[42:08] Speaker 1: you do it on the internet.
[42:09] Speaker 2: I want to ask question number one because it all
[42:13] Speaker 2: goes with this. I have noticed a few sports media
[42:16] Speaker 2: personalities that are suddenly posting on X long and thorough
[42:21] Speaker 2: takes that have all the qualities of of a word
[42:24] Speaker 2: for word chat GPT generated response. I'm not gonna say
[42:28] Speaker 2: their names now. I will show you the tweets afterwards.
[42:31] Speaker 2: Should these people feel shame for not sharing original ideas
[42:35] Speaker 2: on a social media platform that's all about that, or
[42:39] Speaker 2: are they using a tool to refine their ideas?
[42:41] Speaker 1: No, you fucking dork. You can't come up with a
[42:44] Speaker 1: take by yourself. First of all, it ain't gotta be long.
[42:47] Speaker 2: Right?
[42:47] Speaker 1: There's nothing dumber than giving away for free in long
[42:50] Speaker 1: form on the tweets in the first place. People ain't
[42:53] Speaker 1: got no attention span for all of that. No, those
[42:56] Speaker 1: people should be ashamed of themselves. I did not know
[42:59] Speaker 1: that this was a thing.
[43:00] Speaker 2: I've noticed it. I sent it to our friend Nick
[43:02] Speaker 2: Wright yesterday, and he was like, how can you tell
[43:05] Speaker 2: that this is ChatGPT? And I said, well, one, they
[43:08] Speaker 2: use an em dash, which is like this elongated dash
[43:11] Speaker 2: that only ChatGPT uses. And I said, also... I was like,
[43:15] Speaker 2: people think a chat GPT or AI is just going
[43:18] Speaker 2: to use like a million different styles. It has a
[43:21] Speaker 2: very defined writing style.
[43:23] Speaker 1: Yes.
[43:24] Speaker 2: And so anytime I see someone say something like, it's
[43:26] Speaker 2: not a plant, it's a forest in the making. Or
[43:30] Speaker 2: it's not an issue. It's just something that hasn't been
[43:32] Speaker 2: worked out yet. That's like the chat GPT cadence. And
[43:36] Speaker 2: I've noticed some people, like if you look at their
[43:39] Speaker 2: tweets from like three months ago compared to now, it's
[43:41] Speaker 2: a completely different person. And, but I don't see anybody
[43:46] Speaker 2: calling them out and I don't want to be the
[43:47] Speaker 2: one to do it, but I definitely think it's a,
[43:50] Speaker 2: how do you, how do you use something that is
[43:52] Speaker 2: all about, let me put my opinions out there. but
[43:55] Speaker 2: you need to have a computer generate what you think.
[43:57] Speaker 1: What low self-confidence, right?
[44:00] Speaker 2: I think it is.
[44:00] Speaker 1: Cause that's the point for me too. I mean, and
[44:04] Speaker 1: you know, I can neither relate nor empathize with low self-confidence.
[44:09] Speaker 1: I just don't. I don't. Somebody else got to help
[44:12] Speaker 1: make you feel better about that. I was trying to
[44:13] Speaker 1: talk to somebody once about having more self-confidence about themselves.
[44:17] Speaker 1: And then in the end, I was like, damn, no,
[44:18] Speaker 1: you was right. You were actually the one who was correct.
[44:22] Speaker 1: Here I am over here giving you too much credit, right?
[44:24] Speaker 1: Like this was really your fault. But no, we should... Wow.
[44:28] Speaker 1: I just had no idea anybody would engage in such dork.
[44:31] Speaker 2: I'll send you some and you can stay on the lookout.
[44:33] Speaker 2: And if you want to bring back your old account
[44:37] Speaker 2: where you just like crap on people.
[44:38] Speaker 1: I just might. I don't work at ESPN anymore. I
[44:41] Speaker 1: could probably do this. And I want to throw this
[44:44] Speaker 1: out there also about like the AI generated scripts. You know,
[44:46] Speaker 1: I watch a lot of travel videos. I watch them
[44:50] Speaker 1: for travel and I watch them when, you know what
[44:52] Speaker 1: I'm saying? So that is great. They're beautiful and visual.
[44:56] Speaker 1: You know what I'm saying? Like, you know, it does,
[44:58] Speaker 1: it does the thing. So anyway. There's a lot of
[45:01] Speaker 1: AI generated scripts with the AI generated voice. And I
[45:05] Speaker 1: noticed it because I was watching the video. I forgot
[45:07] Speaker 1: about what the place was. And the quote unquote woman
[45:11] Speaker 1: was talking about being the protagonist in your own vacation.
[45:15] Speaker 1: And there's no way anybody who actually talks is referring
[45:17] Speaker 1: to somebody as being a protagonist in their vacation.
[45:21] Speaker 2: And I just think it's important because like, okay, since
[45:27] Speaker 2: my son is one, I talk to my wife about
[45:29] Speaker 2: this all the time that like he is going to
[45:31] Speaker 2: enter a world where people don't have original thought and it's,
[45:35] Speaker 2: it's almost, it's so easy to create, but everyone's going
[45:40] Speaker 2: to be creating the same thing that like we have
[45:42] Speaker 2: to treat it like our son has an opportunity to
[45:45] Speaker 2: differentiate himself by being very original. Like I think being
[45:50] Speaker 2: super authentic and original is going to be a huge advantage. Um,
[45:54] Speaker 2: but it's going to be hard cause it's at one click,
[45:57] Speaker 2: you can get a five page paper written. That was
[45:59] Speaker 2: never a thing. Dude, we were using the Dewey decimal system, right?
[46:02] Speaker 2: Like we were putting together bibliographies. Like you had to,
[46:05] Speaker 2: you had to really write, um, one last on this.
[46:08] Speaker 2: It is question number 39. With thousands of hours of
[46:11] Speaker 2: Stephen A. Smith footage online, how far are we away
[46:15] Speaker 2: from AI being able to convincingly replicate him?
[46:19] Speaker 1: Oh, brother, Saturday Night Live didn't do the worst job
[46:23] Speaker 1: of it with Jay Pharoah.
[46:25] Speaker 2: But we're reaching a point now where I feel like
[46:28] Speaker 2: you could probably type in Oklahoma City beats Indy. Here's
[46:32] Speaker 2: the stats and all that. Give me five possibilities that
[46:35] Speaker 2: Stephen A. Smith can say, and I think one of
[46:37] Speaker 2: them is.
[46:37] Speaker 1: Going to hit. Ryan says Stephen A.I. Smith. Somebody is
[46:41] Speaker 1: going to do this and they're not going to pay us.
[46:43] Speaker 1: They're not going to pay us.
[46:44] Speaker 2: Because, dude, there's so much footage of him that all
[46:47] Speaker 2: of his mannerisms, his face, his sounds, his intonation. Like,
[46:52] Speaker 2: I think the people that are on camera the most
[46:54] Speaker 2: are at the biggest possibility of being replicated.
[46:56] Speaker 1: Well, I will tell you this. There are people. I
[47:00] Speaker 1: know one of them. I will not tell you who
[47:02] Speaker 1: it is. But there are people who are suing the
[47:05] Speaker 1: AI bots. behind the idea of like, I checked this
[47:10] Speaker 1: once for myself and somebody could probably, you could do
[47:12] Speaker 1: it for you, I'm sure. But you can go into
[47:13] Speaker 1: Chad GPT and it's like, give me a take on
[47:17] Speaker 1: this in the style of Bomani Jones and it'll do it.
[47:20] Speaker 1: And I have to tell you, I did not feel honored.
[47:23] Speaker 1: I felt like Chad GPT really doesn't know who I
[47:27] Speaker 1: am or what I'm about by the time I got
[47:29] Speaker 1: to the end of it. But people can do it.
[47:31] Speaker 1: So there are people who are suing these companies because
[47:33] Speaker 1: they're like, yo, you're allowing people to plagiarize me. which,
[47:37] Speaker 1: by the way, is absolutely 100% correct in what they're
[47:41] Speaker 1: telling you. But with Stephen A., oh, yeah, absolutely going
[47:44] Speaker 1: to be able to pull this off, especially as he
[47:47] Speaker 1: has dedicated himself to being out there, unlike any person
[47:51] Speaker 1: I can remember, like ever. All right.
[47:54] Speaker 2: I just asked ChatGPT for Bomani Jones' thoughts on ChatGPT.
[47:59] Speaker 2: Here are three possible quotes it generated. Are you okay
[48:02] Speaker 2: with this? Does it make you feel uncomfortable?
[48:03] Speaker 1: Let's do this.
[48:04] Speaker 2: Look, ChatGPT is basically Wikipedia with charisma. It'll give you
[48:08] Speaker 2: an answer before you finish the question, but you better
[48:10] Speaker 2: double check it like a cab driver in a new city.
[48:13] Speaker 1: Yo, that's perk. That's not me.
[48:17] Speaker 2: I'm impressed and terrified at the same time. Machines can
[48:20] Speaker 2: spit out hot takes on command, but can they crack
[48:22] Speaker 2: a joke that lands after a bad call in game six?
[48:25] Speaker 2: That's the real Turing test.
[48:28] Speaker 1: Yeah, one more.
[48:29] Speaker 2: If all you do is copy and paste an AI script,
[48:31] Speaker 2: you're not adding seasoning to the gumbo. You're just reheating leftovers.
[48:35] Speaker 2: The culture moves forward when someone stirs the pot, not
[48:38] Speaker 2: when they press send.
[48:39] Speaker 1: Now you see what I was saying? You see what
[48:42] Speaker 1: I'm saying? That's kind of.
[48:43] Speaker 2: What you just said. But it added a gumbo reference.
[48:48] Speaker 1: They were like, what if we make it just a
[48:51] Speaker 1: tiny bit racist? Yeah, just to touch. In fact, I'm
[48:57] Speaker 1: now curious how many other black people's names that you
[49:00] Speaker 1: could put in there and they would spit it right
[49:02] Speaker 1: back out and say the same thing. You know, like, wow. Wow. Wow.
[49:13] Speaker 2: Hold on. I'm going to get something really quick, including race,
[49:19] Speaker 2: including race. and culture. I wanted to ask it, what
[49:23] Speaker 2: percentages did you do for the style, like when you
[49:27] Speaker 2: generated that? So a rough percentage breakdown for Bomani Jones
[49:33] Speaker 2: input sources is, It's saying that communication and style took 40%,
[49:38] Speaker 2: saying you're conversational but sharp, wry humor layered structure, you
[49:42] Speaker 2: prefer analogies and extended metaphors. 25%, it took a cultural context.
[49:49] Speaker 2: Phrases like, quote, seasoning the gumbo reflects cultural references rooted
[49:53] Speaker 2: in black southern vernacular and tradition. Man, this is insane.
[49:59] Speaker 1: Number one was correct. Number two was where they started
[50:01] Speaker 1: going a little walkie.
[50:03] Speaker 2: Yeah, they were like, we looked at where he was
[50:05] Speaker 2: from and we gave those things. Oh, man.
[50:09] Speaker 1: All right.
[50:11] Speaker 2: Ask a number.
[50:11] Speaker 1: Okay, okay, okay. Shout out to Shea Gilders Alexander. He
[50:17] Speaker 1: wearing number two, right? Let's go with number two.
[50:20] Speaker 2: Number two. We just had a team built through the
[50:24] Speaker 2: draft by an OCD but incredibly effective GM led by
[50:28] Speaker 2: a 26-year-old that takes a lot of grief about their
[50:30] Speaker 2: style of play, surrounded by supreme death and poised to
[50:34] Speaker 2: compete for championships for years to come. I'm not talking
[50:37] Speaker 2: about the Oklahoma City Thunder. I'm talking about the Philadelphia Eagles.
[50:41] Speaker 2: Sam Presti and Howie Roseman. Are we in the golden
[50:45] Speaker 2: era of the nerd GM?
[50:48] Speaker 1: So what I find interesting about the comparison... between the
[50:52] Speaker 1: two of them is I think that Presti is a
[50:59] Speaker 1: pretty good, like get in the weeds and get them right.
[51:02] Speaker 1: So it did not take anything to say Kevin Durant
[51:05] Speaker 1: at number two. in that draft. It took something to
[51:08] Speaker 1: decide to take Harden at three. It took something to
[51:10] Speaker 1: take Westbrook, I think it was at four or five
[51:12] Speaker 1: or whatever it was.
[51:14] Speaker 2: Right, we don't congratulate him for taking Chet at two,
[51:16] Speaker 2: but in the same draft, he took J-Dub at 13.
[51:19] Speaker 1: Correct, right? He gets that. Howie Roseman is like, wow,
[51:24] Speaker 1: you're so big and fast. Why don't you come play
[51:28] Speaker 1: for us, you big, fast person? Physical outliers. And then
[51:33] Speaker 1: add Jalen Hurts.
[51:35] Speaker 2: Cooper Dejean and his drafts, like he got the center
[51:39] Speaker 2: to replace Jason Kelsey and they haven't missed a beat there.
[51:43] Speaker 2: I mean, so you're saying that you're not as impressed
[51:45] Speaker 2: by how he arose.
[51:46] Speaker 1: No, I'm saying no, no. I'm saying they do it
[51:47] Speaker 1: in different ways. Right. I appreciate not overcomplicating this. Like, hey, guys,
[51:53] Speaker 1: I hear they got a lot of really good stuff
[51:55] Speaker 1: at this store called Georgia. Why don't we go shop
[51:59] Speaker 1: at Georgia? Like there's no need to make this more
[52:02] Speaker 1: difficult than it necessarily has to be.
[52:03] Speaker 2: J-Dub went to Santa Clara. Right, right.
[52:05] Speaker 1: He's out here getting physical outliers. We have a team
[52:09] Speaker 1: full of freaks. That is, we'll work the rest out later,
[52:13] Speaker 1: but we got a team full of freaks. And so
[52:15] Speaker 1: that's where Howie on one level is a jerk. I mean,
[52:18] Speaker 1: not a jerk, a nerd. But on the other level
[52:20] Speaker 1: is Al Davis. Like these are all a bunch of
[52:22] Speaker 1: guys that Al Davis would take.
[52:23] Speaker 2: I will say though that Having covered the NBA for
[52:28] Speaker 2: so long, everybody used to marvel at the fact that
[52:31] Speaker 2: Sam Pressy was given so much power and time that
[52:36] Speaker 2: there were so many years when you're playing Poku at center.
[52:39] Speaker 2: Like these guys were winning 12 games, 15 games. And
[52:43] Speaker 2: they were really playing the young guys. And the comments
[52:46] Speaker 2: around the league were, man, what other GM would be
[52:48] Speaker 2: allowed this kind of runway? And I think they've both
[52:52] Speaker 2: been given runway and they both have owners that go,
[52:55] Speaker 2: whatever you want to do, I'm going to make it happen.
[52:58] Speaker 2: I just, look, we live in New York. I'm watching
[53:00] Speaker 2: what happens with the Knicks. And it's one of these
[53:03] Speaker 2: is not working, a meddling owner that doesn't want to
[53:06] Speaker 2: deal with it. And the other one giving your really
[53:08] Speaker 2: smart GM advice. ground to work with does i.
[53:11] Speaker 1: Think the owner in oklahoma city has a self-awareness about
[53:18] Speaker 1: who and what they are and what they have to
[53:20] Speaker 1: be to win right um i also think what seems
[53:24] Speaker 1: very clear is that sam prestey can articulate the plan
[53:29] Speaker 1: and if you can articulate the plan You'll go from there.
[53:32] Speaker 1: But it's like, look, we're not going to be able
[53:34] Speaker 1: to get free agents. Right. This isn't going to be
[53:36] Speaker 1: that kind of place. What we're going to have to
[53:38] Speaker 1: do is we're going to have to get young guys
[53:40] Speaker 1: who like to be around each other. And then when
[53:42] Speaker 1: it's time to get a veteran, I need to have
[53:44] Speaker 1: an operation so competent. That when those guys get here,
[53:48] Speaker 1: they're like, no, I only got to be here for
[53:50] Speaker 1: six months out the year anyway. Okay, that's fine. I
[53:53] Speaker 1: can do that. And so he was the Wunderkent when
[53:55] Speaker 1: he got the job. I want to say he was
[53:56] Speaker 1: in his 20s when he got it. He nailed Durant,
[54:00] Speaker 1: Jeff Green, Russell Westbrook, James Harden, Serge Ibaka in successive
[54:05] Speaker 1: first round picks. Um, yeah. So, but even the idea
[54:09] Speaker 1: that he got so much time, I don't think that
[54:11] Speaker 1: really holds. So 2020, after they traded Chris Paul and
[54:15] Speaker 1: they got the picks and stuff that they got from him,
[54:17] Speaker 1: they were really only down for two years. Then after that,
[54:20] Speaker 1: they went 40 and 42. And then it's been these
[54:22] Speaker 1: last two years.
[54:23] Speaker 2: Dude, the Eagles fired Doug Peterson two years after winning
[54:26] Speaker 2: the Super Bowl.
[54:27] Speaker 1: Fair, fair, fair.
[54:29] Speaker 2: Like, in sports, like, I vividly remember Stephen A. Smith
[54:32] Speaker 2: going on TV and being like, when are we going
[54:34] Speaker 2: to start questioning Sam Preston?
[54:35] Speaker 1: I remember him saying that, and I was like, stop it. Well,
[54:38] Speaker 1: when's he going to get a championship? Stop it.
[54:41] Speaker 2: Yeah, and it's like he has any pull. But a
[54:44] Speaker 2: lot of teams and a lot of fan bases— don't
[54:47] Speaker 2: even allow one down year or two down years. Well,
[54:51] Speaker 2: you know, if the chiefs had a down year this year,
[54:53] Speaker 2: they're going to start asking, you know, do they need,
[54:56] Speaker 2: what's his Andy Reed, you know, moving on and blah, blah, blah. Like,
[54:59] Speaker 2: like we just don't have patience. So I thought the
[55:01] Speaker 2: patients that they showed, and then you get to go
[55:03] Speaker 2: to your owner and go, I know I need to
[55:05] Speaker 2: pay 85 million for Isaiah Hartenstein.
[55:09] Speaker 1: Yeah.
[55:10] Speaker 2: And they're like, really? And they're like, you need to
[55:11] Speaker 2: trust me, man.
[55:12] Speaker 1: I think there's one other thing. I think there's one
[55:14] Speaker 1: other thing. the self-awareness that I spoke to, they happy
[55:21] Speaker 1: they got a team. True. Like, I don't think they
[55:26] Speaker 1: get enough credit for the game they ran to get
[55:29] Speaker 1: that team, by the way. I know the people in
[55:30] Speaker 1: Seattle don't like it, but the idea that they got
[55:33] Speaker 1: a taste of that team for those two years and
[55:34] Speaker 1: were like, all right, cool. So David Stern says he
[55:37] Speaker 1: want to show them who's boss and we're going to
[55:40] Speaker 1: get a team. And they pulled it off and it
[55:42] Speaker 1: made the team good. I mean, they were a television
[55:45] Speaker 1: draw for much of a decade-long period.
[55:49] Speaker 2: You just made me think of an incredible concept for
[55:51] Speaker 2: the NBA. Instead of the NBA saying, Maybe we'll put
[55:55] Speaker 2: a franchise in Seattle. Maybe we'll put one in Vegas,
[55:58] Speaker 2: Mexico city, Paris, London. What if it's a competition where
[56:03] Speaker 2: it's like, it's like, let's see how good of a
[56:06] Speaker 2: fan base you would be. You know, like we're new
[56:09] Speaker 2: or like, like Oklahoma city got that tryout and they're like, man,
[56:13] Speaker 2: the crowd's packed every game. And it's like a college atmosphere.
[56:17] Speaker 2: Let's see if you got, let's see what you got.
[56:20] Speaker 2: I would love.
[56:21] Speaker 1: Let me tell you, my mom was from Oklahoma City.
[56:22] Speaker 1: I cannot begin to tell you how happy she is
[56:24] Speaker 1: about that championship. She has not lived in Oklahoma City
[56:28] Speaker 1: since the year of our Lord, 1960. Really? Yeah, and
[56:33] Speaker 1: it's like it just happened.
[56:35] Speaker 2: Wow, that's amazing.
[56:36] Speaker 1: Yes.
[56:37] Speaker 2: All right. Let's hear another.
[56:39] Speaker 1: We got one more, one more. We up there. We
[56:41] Speaker 1: pushing the time. What you got? One more, one more.
[56:44] Speaker 1: I'm going to say, as I said, I'm 44 years old.
[56:49] Speaker 1: Let's go with the faux faux.
[56:51] Speaker 2: Okay. If we were to do an WNBA-NBA jam combo,
[56:59] Speaker 2: you would have teams like Anthony Edwards and Nafisia Collier.
[57:02] Speaker 2: You'd have teams like Jalen Brunson and Brianna Stewart. But
[57:05] Speaker 2: how many jerseys would the white lightning combination of Caitlin
[57:09] Speaker 2: Clark and TJ McConnell sell? And that team name would
[57:13] Speaker 2: be the Midwest Fundamental.
[57:17] Speaker 1: TJ McConnell, he was this close. This close to that
[57:20] Speaker 1: jersey retirement. Your guy, TJ McConnell, the only true process survivor.
[57:25] Speaker 1: The only guy that had no business in the NBA
[57:28] Speaker 1: and then figured out a way to make it happen.
[57:30] Speaker 1: He turned the ball over seven times in game seven,
[57:32] Speaker 1: by the way. Just want to throw that out there
[57:33] Speaker 1: for people who weren't aware. Don't talk about that. Wow.
[57:36] Speaker 1: They're going to sell a lot of jerseys that are
[57:38] Speaker 1: going to fit you the exact right size.
[57:42] Speaker 2: Oh, great. Got to tuck them in.
[57:44] Speaker 1: Yes, it's going to be those. I mean, everybody in
[57:46] Speaker 1: the state of Indiana will have one.
[57:49] Speaker 2: Everybody. Follow-up questions. I've thought about places I'd love to
[57:53] Speaker 2: see Kaitlin Clark play basketball. Number one, I think, is Rucker.
[57:59] Speaker 2: I always go back to the Kevin Durant clip where
[58:02] Speaker 2: he's hitting all the threes. I just think there's something
[58:05] Speaker 2: beautiful about Caitlin Clark walking into the rocker and then
[58:08] Speaker 2: like turning everyone into a fan by the end of it.
[58:11] Speaker 1: Well, I mean, you're not saying what I'm about to say.
[58:18] Speaker 1: I'm going to say it. I just want to be
[58:20] Speaker 1: very clear. It's me, not you. They just looking for
[58:23] Speaker 1: a reason to fall in love with a white girl
[58:25] Speaker 1: on a regular basis, let alone one that could hoop.
[58:30] Speaker 1: It don't take much for the white girl to win
[58:32] Speaker 1: the brothers over. It does not take very much. She
[58:35] Speaker 1: would not be going in there fighting against my skepticism.
[58:37] Speaker 1: It would be very, very welcoming. My people, generally speaking,
[58:40] Speaker 1: we are welcoming. White people just want to be nice
[58:43] Speaker 1: to us a little bit. But she come out there,
[58:45] Speaker 1: I'm just telling you, put a lot of them factors together, yeah, yeah, yeah.
[58:49] Speaker 1: She'll be the queen of uptown. Queen.
[58:52] Speaker 2: I didn't even think about that. My second one was
[58:55] Speaker 2: San Quentin. I would love to see.
[58:58] Speaker 2: Caitlyn in like a, in like a maximum security prison,
[59:01] Speaker 2: but like, again, wins everybody over.
[59:04] Speaker 1: Yo, like that's her, like giving back. You know what
[59:07] Speaker 1: I'm saying? Like she going in there hooping with the
[59:09] Speaker 1: hooping with the inmates we.
[59:10] Speaker 2: I think the warriors played in the prison like the
[59:12] Speaker 2: last five.
[59:13] Speaker 1: Years yo i would i would i would pay money to.
[59:16] Speaker 2: Watch caitlin's doing step back.
[59:18] Speaker 1: Yes yes but i tell you this though that whole
[59:20] Speaker 1: thing would she be like pushing people and walking away
[59:22] Speaker 1: don't do that there Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah.
[59:24] Speaker 2: Can't do that.
[59:24] Speaker 1: No, no, no, no. You got to stand on your two.
[59:26] Speaker 1: You might get some respect like really doing it, but
[59:28] Speaker 1: being passive aggressive is not something that they have a
[59:30] Speaker 1: lot of respect for behind bars.
[59:32] Speaker 2: All right, let me get this in. This was number 21.
[59:34] Speaker 2: I was hoping you were going to pick it. You didn't.
[59:37] Speaker 2: Go out with one. Have lunch with your parents. Smoke
[59:40] Speaker 2: with one. Aaron Rodgers, Mayor Eric Adams, Stephen A. Smith.
[59:46] Speaker 1: Okay, so it's go out with one.
[59:47] Speaker 2: Go out, drink it, go out. Well, partying with one
[59:50] Speaker 2: because you don't drink. Have lunch with your parents and
[59:53] Speaker 2: then a cypher, a smoke sesh.
[59:55] Speaker 1: Okay. I'm not. I would have to bring Aaron Rodgers
[1:00:04] Speaker 1: around my parents. Wow. I know too much about how
[1:00:09] Speaker 1: my parents, my father in particular feels about Eric Adams,
[1:00:13] Speaker 1: the archetype and Stephen A. Smith, the broadcast personality that
[1:00:18] Speaker 1: I cannot do. Um, and so then we got knocked out.
[1:00:22] Speaker 2: So you're going to be sitting there and you're, and
[1:00:23] Speaker 2: he's gonna be like, so then when I did Iowa.
[1:00:25] Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. I think they can,
[1:00:28] Speaker 1: I think they can make that work. I brought weird
[1:00:29] Speaker 1: white boys over to the house before. I ain't brought
[1:00:32] Speaker 1: no whole lot of brothers over like Stephen A. Smith
[1:00:34] Speaker 1: or Eric Adams. Um, So you're smoking with one and
[1:00:39] Speaker 1: you're going out with one, Eric Adams and Stephen A. Okay,
[1:00:42] Speaker 1: I'm definitely going out with Eric Adams. I bet that's fun.
[1:00:47] Speaker 1: For all my criticisms of Eric Adams, he knows the
[1:00:50] Speaker 1: spots and the spots. This man just said the other day,
[1:00:53] Speaker 1: because as we're recording this on Tuesday, so it's election
[1:00:56] Speaker 1: day for the primary in New York City. Eric Adams
[1:00:59] Speaker 1: did something where he said, how he was the first
[1:01:04] Speaker 1: mayor to party off Dykeman. who says that like who
[1:01:11] Speaker 1: holds that he was on the breakfast club that one
[1:01:13] Speaker 1: day they gonna say that ball hit a brother with
[1:01:15] Speaker 1: the earring was doing it who says these things about
[1:01:19] Speaker 1: being the mayor what are you talking about so yeah
[1:01:22] Speaker 1: i would go kick it with did i just oh
[1:01:25] Speaker 1: no so you're you're smoking with steven no no no
[1:01:28] Speaker 1: no i'm going out with steven a i'm smoking with
[1:01:30] Speaker 1: eric adams.
[1:01:31] Speaker 2: I don't why don't you want to smoke with steven
[1:01:32] Speaker 2: because i don't.
[1:01:33] Speaker 1: Think steven a wants to smoke with us.
[1:01:35] Speaker 2: Well, he has to. It's part of the rules.
[1:01:37] Speaker 1: Okay, so that would mean it is.
[1:01:39] Speaker 2: Yeah, how would that session go?
[1:01:40] Speaker 1: It's absolutely on the board that it would be Stephen
[1:01:43] Speaker 1: A's first time getting high, or at the very least
[1:01:46] Speaker 1: getting high as he would kicking it with me. And
[1:01:49] Speaker 1: I don't want to I'm not trying to I don't
[1:01:51] Speaker 1: need to be a pioneer in that regard. I'll go
[1:01:54] Speaker 1: out with Stephen A. Smith. Yes, that would that would
[1:01:57] Speaker 1: that would that would be.
[1:01:58] Speaker 2: Could you imagine like it is his first time and
[1:02:00] Speaker 2: then someone's like, let me fire up a door dash.
[1:02:03] Speaker 2: What is Stephen A. getting the munchies for?
[1:02:06] Speaker 1: Oh, I know exactly what he get the munchies for.
[1:02:08] Speaker 1: Everybody knows what he get the munchies for is the
[1:02:10] Speaker 1: thing that it's been reported many, many years ago. He
[1:02:13] Speaker 1: is about those cheesy poofs, man. What? You know the
[1:02:17] Speaker 1: whole cheesy poof thing with Stephen A. You can Google that.
[1:02:20] Speaker 1: I'm doing it now. Somebody saw him at a game
[1:02:23] Speaker 1: eating the cheesy poofs. They're like, oh, it's Stephen A
[1:02:25] Speaker 1: with cheesy poofs. Stephen A will walk around the Seaport
[1:02:28] Speaker 1: studio with a styrofoam bowl full of cheesy poofs. He
[1:02:31] Speaker 1: clearly keeps a bag of them in his office or
[1:02:34] Speaker 1: somebody re-ups them.
[1:02:35] Speaker 2: The balls?
[1:02:36] Speaker 1: Yeah, like the generic Cheetos.
[1:02:40] Speaker 2: Cheesy poofs. Not cheesy poofs, that's from South Park.
[1:02:43] Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, but I'm saying, yeah, no, but like Cheetos,
[1:02:47] Speaker 1: but not Cheetos.
[1:02:47] Speaker 2: Cheese doodles.
[1:02:48] Speaker 1: There we go.
[1:02:51] Speaker 2: He loves cheese doodles?
[1:02:52] Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
[1:02:54] Speaker 2: Can you imagine? And then Stephen A grabs the J
[1:02:58] Speaker 2: and it's like all over his fingers.
[1:03:01] Speaker 1: Yeah, he don't know the rules. You know what I'm saying?
[1:03:05] Speaker 1: He don't know the rules.
[1:03:07] Speaker 2: A just-smoked Stephen A crushing a tub of cheese doodles
[1:03:10] Speaker 2: is like the funniest thing.
[1:03:11] Speaker 1: This actually reminds me, by the way, I had a
[1:03:13] Speaker 1: Hall of Fame session at the Super Bowl one year
[1:03:15] Speaker 1: that I may have told you about. But either way,
[1:03:17] Speaker 1: somebody with way more money than I made the declaration like, hey,
[1:03:21] Speaker 1: everybody got their own, right? He was not here for
[1:03:26] Speaker 1: the communal spirit of it all. If you ain't got
[1:03:28] Speaker 1: no weed, take your broke ass home. That is what
[1:03:31] Speaker 1: that Hall of Famer said.
[1:03:33] Speaker 2: To be honest, when you were talking about moving your
[1:03:35] Speaker 2: couch in the very beginning of this, moving your own
[1:03:38] Speaker 2: couch is the guy that goes, let's just pass it.
[1:03:41] Speaker 2: And then the guy that pays to get his couch
[1:03:43] Speaker 2: moved goes, no, no, no. You're good.
[1:03:46] Speaker 1: You're good. Ladies and gentlemen, this is Lefkoe, comma, Adam.
[1:03:52] Speaker 1: That's the middle ground. Lefkoe, Addo. What are you doing
[1:03:56] Speaker 1: this summer? Because basketball is over. Tennis is over. French
[1:03:59] Speaker 1: Open is over. Yep.
[1:04:02] Speaker 2: I'm definitely going to go to the U.S. Open now
[1:04:04] Speaker 2: that I'm a tennis guy.
[1:04:05] Speaker 1: We got to go. I guess I got to find
[1:04:08] Speaker 1: somebody to roll with me, but we got to talk.
[1:04:10] Speaker 1: I'll be there for sure. We got to get all
[1:04:12] Speaker 1: our agencies and the likes in line so we can
[1:04:14] Speaker 1: go hang out.
[1:04:15] Speaker 2: And then I'm getting ready for baseball. I'm going to
[1:04:18] Speaker 2: be doing baseball with TNT, which I'm excited about.
[1:04:21] Speaker 1: And.
[1:04:22] Speaker 2: A very corny kind of answer, I'm just being a dad.
[1:04:26] Speaker 2: You know, dude, when you travel a lot, you have
[1:04:29] Speaker 2: these incredible thoughts. You're like, man, I just want to
[1:04:31] Speaker 2: take him to gym class. And then after an hour,
[1:04:34] Speaker 2: you're like, this is the hardest thing I've ever done
[1:04:36] Speaker 2: in my entire life. Just hanging out with Big P,
[1:04:40] Speaker 2: pushing P.
[1:04:40] Speaker 1: Yeah, I got to go. Now that he's mobile and,
[1:04:44] Speaker 1: you know. He's talking. That's what I'm saying. I got
[1:04:46] Speaker 1: to come hang out with the little homie. I only
[1:04:47] Speaker 1: got to kick it with him a little bit.
[1:04:48] Speaker 2: Well, Monty, the one thing that I think you would
[1:04:50] Speaker 2: love about having a kid, because I think you'll have
[1:04:53] Speaker 2: a smart kid, is stunting on other parents with your
[1:04:56] Speaker 2: kid's intelligence. And so Prince, my wife, since the age
[1:05:00] Speaker 2: of three, has been reading like neurology books and stuff.
[1:05:03] Speaker 2: So he can tell you the heart has four chambers.
[1:05:05] Speaker 2: The strongest is the left ventricle. The biggest part of
[1:05:08] Speaker 2: the brain is the cerebrum. And he can spell his
[1:05:11] Speaker 2: name and all this stuff. And he's like one. And
[1:05:13] Speaker 2: so we'll be at the playground and there'll be times
[1:05:16] Speaker 2: where I'll feel like someone's being rude. Like they're not
[1:05:18] Speaker 2: sharing the swing or they're not controlling their kid. And
[1:05:21] Speaker 2: I go... Prince, what creates protein in the cell? And
[1:05:25] Speaker 2: he's like, ribosomes. And they're like, what the fuck? And
[1:05:29] Speaker 2: I'm like, eat.
[1:05:30] Speaker 1: It, mom, eat it. This is pretty amazing, though, I
[1:05:33] Speaker 1: have to say.
[1:05:35] Speaker 2: Oh, well, it's all credit to my wife, because what
[1:05:37] Speaker 2: I've taught him is that when he dunks the ball,
[1:05:39] Speaker 2: he says, boom, shakalaka. And that after you spell eagles,
[1:05:43] Speaker 2: you say go birds. So we've taught them very different things.
[1:05:46] Speaker 1: OK, I need to ask Nick what exactly he taught Deanna,
[1:05:49] Speaker 1: because my favorite thing when Nick and Deanna is Deanna
[1:05:52] Speaker 1: walking in the room, although Deanna is certainly not a
[1:05:54] Speaker 1: child anymore, but walking in and saying, Daddy, who do
[1:05:57] Speaker 1: we want to win today? which I looked at him
[1:05:59] Speaker 1: and said, yo, you got to tighten this up, man.
[1:06:02] Speaker 1: You can't. It can't be this, homie.
[1:06:09] Speaker 2: That is a sign right there.
[1:06:10] Speaker 1: It can't be this. Right, but check out about Turner
[1:06:12] Speaker 1: Sports covering baseball and the likes. My brother, I appreciate you.
[1:06:15] Speaker 1: I will talk to you soon.
[1:06:17] Speaker 2: Always a pleasure, man. Thank you.
[1:06:18] Speaker 1: All right, man. And ladies and gentlemen, thanks so much
