[0:05] Speaker 1: Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the right time, a wave original.
[0:09] Speaker 1: My name is Beaumont Jones. Thanks for listening wherever you
[0:11] Speaker 1: get your podcast. Thanks for watching us on YouTube. Subscribe, like,
[0:15] Speaker 1: rate us, review us, give us five stars. You only
[0:17] Speaker 1: give us four stars. I'm inclined to believe you are
[0:20] Speaker 1: a hater. You know what time it is. NFL football
[0:25] Speaker 1: is back. Baby, look, understand, I am one of these
[0:27] Speaker 1: people that's a little bit disheartened about how this country
[0:30] Speaker 1: has just become football all the time. It's like it's
[0:33] Speaker 1: the only sport that we care about. I think you
[0:35] Speaker 1: guys look like fucking morons when y'all be sitting around
[0:38] Speaker 1: watching that fake football, that preseason football, right? And, you know,
[0:42] Speaker 1: you be betting on it. You watch the Pro Bowl.
[0:44] Speaker 1: I think that's crazy. Week one, man, I went over
[0:47] Speaker 1: to my buddy Nick's house. He got like five, six
[0:49] Speaker 1: games on. We over there posted up. eating wangs baby
[0:53] Speaker 1: it was a great time i i i have to
[0:56] Speaker 1: say i was i was kind of thrilled that we
[0:58] Speaker 1: got this football back right i don't even necessarily know
[1:01] Speaker 1: what it is that you do with the football you
[1:03] Speaker 1: know nick you might need to pull up one day.
[1:05] Speaker 2: Oh yeah i mean i i've i've seen i've been
[1:08] Speaker 2: to football at nick's house he is uh he's locked
[1:10] Speaker 2: in for 10 hours he's not moving.
[1:12] Speaker 1: He's locked in for 10 hours. And I have to
[1:13] Speaker 1: tell you, this is the first time it was so
[1:15] Speaker 1: much going on. Like, normally I can find the game
[1:18] Speaker 1: I care about, lock in, and go from there, right? Like,
[1:21] Speaker 1: I like watching football with Nick, one, because it makes
[1:24] Speaker 1: it better for coming on this show because he knows
[1:27] Speaker 1: a zillion things. We're having conversation. Like, we're giving ourselves
[1:30] Speaker 1: things to think about. Yeah, it's basically it, right? Like,
[1:33] Speaker 1: it's a really cool thing to be able to go
[1:34] Speaker 1: back and forth with him about what's going on because
[1:37] Speaker 1: he knows so much at all times because, you know,
[1:40] Speaker 1: he'd be putting money on stuff. It takes you to
[1:43] Speaker 1: a different place in terms of watching the game. But
[1:45] Speaker 1: there were actually enough interesting games early that it was difficult.
[1:50] Speaker 1: But the game that we got to, obviously, it was
[1:53] Speaker 1: all a buildup for Ravens and Bills on Sunday night. Now,
[1:59] Speaker 1: Ravens and Bills, for the last few years, a game
[2:02] Speaker 1: like that, it's been.
[2:06] Speaker 3: The consolation bracket, right?
[2:08] Speaker 1: And not really in a bad way, but it's been
[2:11] Speaker 1: the consolation bracket, right? Like, it's kind of who gonna
[2:15] Speaker 1: finish second to Usain Bolt in the 100-meter final at
[2:18] Speaker 1: the Olympics. That's just what it's been. It's been the
[2:22] Speaker 1: Chiefs and then everybody else.
[2:24] Speaker 2: Mahomes pulling up to the three-point contest like Larry Bird.
[2:26] Speaker 2: Who wants to come in second?
[2:30] Speaker 1: Mahomes throwing some pass behind his back, over his shoulder,
[2:33] Speaker 1: then just walking out, pointing his finger to the sky
[2:35] Speaker 1: because you know that thing is going in. That's exactly
[2:38] Speaker 1: what it's been for these years. Last night was different.
[2:41] Speaker 1: And we'll talk about part of why it was different
[2:43] Speaker 1: coming up in a little bit. But this matchup does
[2:47] Speaker 1: not feel like the consolation bracket. anymore right like this
[2:50] Speaker 1: feels like a different kind of battle this is every
[2:55] Speaker 1: year feels like the best chance for whatever team is
[2:59] Speaker 1: not the Chiefs now obviously um the Ravens having that
[3:05] Speaker 1: chance to beat the Chiefs at home uh in 2023
[3:09] Speaker 1: January 2024 and they did not win it that one
[3:12] Speaker 1: really felt like their best chance and that they just
[3:16] Speaker 1: gave it up like they had the game At the crib,
[3:19] Speaker 1: which up to that point, Patrick Mahomes ain't playing no
[3:21] Speaker 1: games on the road before that season, right? They had
[3:24] Speaker 1: the game at the crib. And it wasn't that same year.
[3:26] Speaker 1: Didn't Buffalo have Kansas City at the crib run and
[3:30] Speaker 1: then they lost that one?
[3:31] Speaker 2: Yeah, because that was the year they went 11-6 when
[3:36] Speaker 2: the receivers were all double agents.
[3:38] Speaker 4: Right.
[3:38] Speaker 1: And so he went to everybody's house and was just like,
[3:40] Speaker 1: not yet, fellas. Not yet. Like, y'all think this is
[3:43] Speaker 1: y'all's chance. This isn't y'all's chance. And then they walked through. Okay.
[3:46] Speaker 5: Okay.
[3:50] Speaker 1: This is not a game I don't feel like where
[3:53] Speaker 1: you come out of it talking about one quarterback won
[3:57] Speaker 1: and one quarterback lost. Now, obviously, Josh Allen in that
[4:01] Speaker 1: 16-point run they put on at the end was just unreal.
[4:07] Speaker 4: Just.
[4:08] Speaker 1: big old... I just don't know. I'm trying not to
[4:12] Speaker 1: use curse words, but that's all... The problem with trying
[4:14] Speaker 1: to describe Josh Allen.
[4:15] Speaker 2: That big MF-er?
[4:16] Speaker 1: Yes. That's all I have is some form of that, right?
[4:19] Speaker 1: It's not even just that it's curse words. It's the
[4:21] Speaker 1: big dollar ones that you can't... But that's all you
[4:24] Speaker 1: can do with a dude that big throwing the ball
[4:27] Speaker 1: like that, and he was putting it right on the
[4:29] Speaker 1: dot for this Cats fan. Like, it was... And in a...
[4:32] Speaker 1: We got to get it right now. This is our chance.
[4:34] Speaker 1: This is all we got.
[4:35] Speaker 2: And they.
[4:36] Speaker 1: I mean... They should not have won that game. Baltimore
[4:41] Speaker 1: lost it, but they won it. Like the drives that
[4:44] Speaker 1: they were running, Baltimore's defense is going to have to
[4:48] Speaker 1: be a little something different, obviously, than it was. And honestly,
[4:51] Speaker 1: Buffalo's defense is also going to need to be a
[4:53] Speaker 1: little something different than it was. But that was the
[4:57] Speaker 1: big fella. You know what he is? Here's what he is, right?
[5:00] Speaker 1: He's a big old galoop. That's a big galoot. The
[5:05] Speaker 1: problem is when he talks, he doesn't sound stupid. Like
[5:08] Speaker 1: you think of a galoot is kind of big and stupid,
[5:11] Speaker 1: but he is. That's what we need to start calling
[5:13] Speaker 1: Josh Allen because he doesn't really have a nickname yet, right? No.
[5:16] Speaker 1: What if we just say the big galoot? When's the
[5:20] Speaker 1: last time we called somebody a galoot?
[5:23] Speaker 2: I didn't know they were still making galoots.
[5:24] Speaker 1: Well, no, no. They're clearly still making them. We just
[5:27] Speaker 1: began to identify them as something else. You're like, oh,
[5:29] Speaker 1: I didn't know they made Datsuns anymore.
[5:31] Speaker 3: No, they're called Nissans now.
[5:33] Speaker 1: Like that's all that is. Got it. The big loop
[5:35] Speaker 1: was moving down the field and making that happen. Look,
[5:40] Speaker 1: Baltimore had a game where Lamar Jackson averaged 11 yards
[5:45] Speaker 1: in attempt through two touchdowns, ran for 70 yards in
[5:49] Speaker 1: another touchdown. Derrick Henry ran for 170 yards. Your team
[5:53] Speaker 1: ran for 240 yards and your quarterback played well. and
[6:04] Speaker 1: you stopped the run and you lost. Hey guys, there's
[6:12] Speaker 1: really only one place for you to look under those
[6:15] Speaker 1: circumstances and that place is the dude with the headphones on.
[6:23] Speaker 1: Have a factoid here that Ryan has put in our
[6:25] Speaker 1: document for you guys to know. John Harbaugh in his
[6:30] Speaker 1: coaching career has blown 17 second-half double-digit leads.
[6:39] Speaker 4: 17.
[6:39] Speaker 1: That is the most by any coach since at least 1991,
[6:43] Speaker 1: because they ain't been counting, but for so long. Now,
[6:49] Speaker 1: part of that, of course, is a function of the
[6:51] Speaker 1: fact that John Harbaugh has been coaching literally since the
[6:57] Speaker 1: Bush administration. The second Bush, just, you know, don't you
[7:01] Speaker 1: think we're being unfair? but he'd been out there since
[7:04] Speaker 1: the Bush administration. Some of y'all don't even want to
[7:08] Speaker 1: think about what it was like when he was the.
[7:11] Speaker 3: Coach, because they was putting you out of your house.
[7:16] Speaker 3: Was that too far?
[7:19] Speaker 1: Did I take it into tragedy at that point? Okay,
[7:23] Speaker 1: Ryan ain't even jumping in to say nothing about it.
[7:27] Speaker 2: I was thinking about what my wife was like when
[7:29] Speaker 2: John Harbaugh started coaching.
[7:31] Speaker 1: I'm just saying, if he was driving down the street
[7:32] Speaker 1: and being like, damn, they're not going to finish building
[7:34] Speaker 1: that house? They're just going to stop in the middle, huh? Shit. Okay.
[7:39] Speaker 1: But he's been there for a long time. But at
[7:41] Speaker 1: the same time, I do think he has been shielded
[7:45] Speaker 1: by the presence of Lamar Jackson. in times and ways
[7:48] Speaker 1: that very often when a team like this has not
[7:50] Speaker 1: gotten to the Super Bowl over this time period and
[7:53] Speaker 1: they have the quarterback, you get a new coach. Like
[7:56] Speaker 1: that by now ordinarily would have happened. We are now
[8:00] Speaker 1: in year eight of the Lamar Jackson experience. Keeping in mind,
[8:05] Speaker 1: they was going to cut bait with Harbaugh in 2018
[8:09] Speaker 1: until Lamar Jackson came in and saved his job, right?
[8:15] Speaker 1: They look tight.
[8:17] Speaker 3: At the end of that.
[8:18] Speaker 1: Now, do I think you can blame Harbaugh for, you know,
[8:24] Speaker 1: Hall of Fame running back Derrick Henry fumbling when he did?
[8:28] Speaker 3: No, I don't think that you can put that on
[8:30] Speaker 3: the coach.
[8:31] Speaker 1: By the way, speaking of Derrick Henry, I know you've
[8:33] Speaker 1: probably seen this number from somebody else. I know you
[8:36] Speaker 1: may have seen somebody else make this point, but Derrick
[8:38] Speaker 1: Henry last season had the sneakiest all-time great season that
[8:42] Speaker 1: I think an NFL player has ever had. Because Saquon
[8:45] Speaker 1: Barkley had all those yards. Did you know Derrick Henry
[8:49] Speaker 1: ran for 1,900 yards last year?
[8:51] Speaker 2: I did not. Last night, he got into the top
[8:57] Speaker 2: five all-time rushing touchdowns.
[8:58] Speaker 4: Yes.
[8:59] Speaker 2: And a stat that was also going around is he
[9:03] Speaker 2: still hasn't rushed for more yards than he did in
[9:05] Speaker 2: high school. I've seen that number going around because he
[9:10] Speaker 2: has like 12,000 high school rushing yards.
[9:12] Speaker 1: Ain't nobody stealing a check quite like Derrick Henry's high
[9:18] Speaker 1: school coach. They wouldn't watch no film. They wouldn't cook
[9:22] Speaker 1: it up.
[9:22] Speaker 2: No.
[9:23] Speaker 1: What are we going to do today? I don't know, guys.
[9:26] Speaker 1: What do you think? Maybe we could just give the
[9:29] Speaker 1: ball to Derek again.
[9:31] Speaker 2: He's sneaky. He's sneaky become like the Kareem Abdul-Jabbar of
[9:34] Speaker 2: running backs.
[9:35] Speaker 4: Yes.
[9:35] Speaker 2: Like a dominant high school, college, and now pro into
[9:40] Speaker 2: a sec. Like he's 40 and running back years, but
[9:43] Speaker 2: still looks 22.
[9:45] Speaker 1: Well, that's what I was going to say that I
[9:46] Speaker 1: think is so crazy is that I think it is
[9:47] Speaker 1: perfectly reasonable that this year is a Saquon Barkley regression year, right?
[9:52] Speaker 1: Like you run for 2,000 yards, you take all the
[9:55] Speaker 1: carries that it takes Uh, Barkley is now, and I
[9:58] Speaker 1: want to say going into year eight or something like that. Yeah.
[10:00] Speaker 2: He's the same draft as Lamar.
[10:02] Speaker 1: Yeah.
[10:03] Speaker 4: Yeah.
[10:03] Speaker 1: Like that's about the time that you have a regression
[10:05] Speaker 1: for running back. It's unreasonable to expect him. And by
[10:08] Speaker 1: the way, in week one, it looked like the sort
[10:09] Speaker 1: of thing that was possible. Hey, Derek Henry is a
[10:12] Speaker 1: lot older than him and just ran for 1900 yards
[10:18] Speaker 1: on six yards, a carry, and then just came out
[10:21] Speaker 1: here and started the season with 170 yards. like all
[10:25] Speaker 1: that hyperbaric chamber stuff and everything else he's doing, apparently
[10:29] Speaker 1: it's worth the money. But guys, he gave up the
[10:33] Speaker 1: booty at the end of that game, much like Mark Andrews.
[10:37] Speaker 1: He gave up the booty in the last time they
[10:39] Speaker 1: played that game in Buffalo, where this stops being a
[10:43] Speaker 1: discussion about the quarterback and really does become a discussion
[10:46] Speaker 1: about why does your whole team seem to get tight?
[10:50] Speaker 1: Or is it your whole team? Like, is that a
[10:52] Speaker 1: fair characterization? The quarterback has certainly looked to be tight
[10:56] Speaker 1: over time and we have certainly chastised him and given
[10:59] Speaker 1: him the hell that you deserve when you are a
[11:01] Speaker 1: guy with as many receipts and the stripes that Lamar
[11:03] Speaker 1: Jackson has and you come out there and you look tight.
[11:05] Speaker 1: But after a certain point, man, and it's everybody and
[11:08] Speaker 1: you put up 40 points on the road and you're
[11:11] Speaker 1: up and you lose, this goes back to the coach.
[11:16] Speaker 1: Like to me, if I'm running that franchise, This is
[11:21] Speaker 1: the make or break year for Harbaugh. And look, he's
[11:26] Speaker 1: been there forever, man. Sometimes it's just time for you
[11:29] Speaker 1: to go. It happens. I can't say that the team
[11:33] Speaker 1: doesn't respond to him because they seem to, right? They
[11:36] Speaker 1: made the changes with the offense. As you've asked Lamar
[11:40] Speaker 1: to step up and to become a better passer, more
[11:42] Speaker 1: sneaky stats. Lamar Jackson last year had 41 touchdowns, four interceptions,
[11:47] Speaker 1: and ran for over 900 yards. I'm sorry. We're going
[11:54] Speaker 1: to answer the questions about everybody else before we start
[11:57] Speaker 1: putting it back on that guy. Even if, like I say,
[12:00] Speaker 1: and it's an important point, Lamar Jackson is not the
[12:03] Speaker 1: reason that the Ravens lost that game, but he is
[12:07] Speaker 1: not the reason why they won that game. The other guy,
[12:11] Speaker 1: he is the reason his guys won the game, right?
[12:14] Speaker 1: And if they'd lost, he wouldn't have been the reason
[12:15] Speaker 1: because he also had an incredible game. Like I find
[12:19] Speaker 1: it to be so much more interesting, at least for
[12:21] Speaker 1: the type of job that I have to be able
[12:23] Speaker 1: to come off of a game like that. And what
[12:25] Speaker 1: we don't have to do is trying to find a
[12:27] Speaker 1: way to blame or chastise the two excellent quarterbacks who
[12:32] Speaker 1: played excellently. Like we don't have to do that. I
[12:37] Speaker 1: will say this though, Ryan, Buffalo going to need to
[12:40] Speaker 1: figure out how to run the ball. Like, we're just
[12:43] Speaker 1: going to jump on Josh Allen's back and he's going
[12:45] Speaker 1: to do everything? I will say this for the Ravens.
[12:48] Speaker 1: It took them a while to build it up, but
[12:50] Speaker 1: it never felt like that was their plan on purpose.
[12:52] Speaker 1: These last couple years, it's felt like this is what
[12:54] Speaker 1: Buffalo has just decided they're going to do.
[12:56] Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, like, they've found a way to make
[13:00] Speaker 2: him a more effective runner, but their receivers still look
[13:03] Speaker 2: like non-playable characters. James Cook is good, not great. I mean,
[13:07] Speaker 2: at least... None of them are really hit, but the
[13:09] Speaker 2: Ravens have put a lot of talent, a lot of
[13:12] Speaker 2: draft capital into that receiver position. And then, of course,
[13:14] Speaker 2: they go out and get Derrick Henry last year.
[13:16] Speaker 1: Yeah, I will say this, though. They put a lot
[13:17] Speaker 1: of capital into that, but if you run through this
[13:19] Speaker 1: box score, if there's something that needs to worry you
[13:21] Speaker 1: about them, Zay Flowers looks like the guy that they
[13:24] Speaker 1: said he was going to be when he got drafted, right?
[13:26] Speaker 1: He looked like that. But they are looking for what's
[13:31] Speaker 1: left of DeAndre Hopkins to get it done.
[13:34] Speaker 3: Two catches for 35 yards.
[13:36] Speaker 1: Rashad Bateman... So I don't know if you ever listened
[13:40] Speaker 1: back in the day when me and Shannon did the
[13:41] Speaker 1: radio show, and everybody's got that guy. Like one of
[13:44] Speaker 1: them for me was Kristen Michael, but the defining one
[13:47] Speaker 1: for me was Darren McFadden, but this is the year
[13:49] Speaker 1: that he puts it all together.
[13:51] Speaker 2: That checks out.
[13:52] Speaker 4: Yes.
[13:53] Speaker 1: Rashad Bateman, he is a guy that I promise this
[13:57] Speaker 1: is going to be the year he puts it all together.
[14:00] Speaker 2: Kyle Pitts is mine.
[14:02] Speaker 1: I had that feeling while I was watching snippets of
[14:03] Speaker 1: that game. It started looking like it might be, right?
[14:06] Speaker 1: It started looking like it might be. Mark Andrews didn't
[14:09] Speaker 1: give him anything in this game. So they have made
[14:13] Speaker 1: the capital investments. They signed Odell Beckham a couple years ago,
[14:15] Speaker 1: but what was left of Odell Beckham? They they've tried
[14:19] Speaker 1: flowers seems to be the one that has panned out,
[14:22] Speaker 1: but somebody is going to have to give it because
[14:24] Speaker 1: we're at this point now where their quarterback is one
[14:26] Speaker 1: of the greatest quarterbacks who has ever played. He is
[14:28] Speaker 1: a hall of fame quarterback. Like Josh Allen is still
[14:31] Speaker 1: hall of fame trajectory. Lamar Jackson with the receipts that
[14:34] Speaker 1: he's got his hall of fame. Josh Allen, I think
[14:35] Speaker 1: is going to be there.
[14:36] Speaker 6: Right.
[14:36] Speaker 7: Yeah.
[14:37] Speaker 2: But like he's one MVP or one Superbowl appearance away
[14:40] Speaker 2: from being a lock.
[14:40] Speaker 4: Yes.
[14:41] Speaker 1: Like, like this is where they, this is where they are.
[14:44] Speaker 1: The dude in the cap is, is going to need
[14:47] Speaker 1: to figure out how to get this done. Because if
[14:50] Speaker 1: he doesn't, they're going to look like they're squandering this.
[14:52] Speaker 1: And Lamar is more than a runner. And I find
[14:58] Speaker 1: most impressive about him as runner is that he takes
[15:01] Speaker 1: very good care of himself, right? Like he's not running
[15:04] Speaker 1: like Cam Newton used to run, where Cam Newton is
[15:06] Speaker 1: running like a fullback, right? It's not that.
[15:10] Speaker 2: However, no, Mars has figured out like he gets out
[15:13] Speaker 2: of bounds. He gets down. Yes. You never really see
[15:16] Speaker 2: him take a contact injury. He gets sick all the time.
[15:20] Speaker 1: Yes.
[15:20] Speaker 5: Yes.
[15:21] Speaker 1: He has the worst immune system of all time.
[15:23] Speaker 2: But he's never you never see him like almost carted off.
[15:26] Speaker 1: I just think we need to keep in mind that
[15:28] Speaker 1: his primary football advisor at every turn has been his mama.
[15:35] Speaker 1: That's not a bad thing. I'm just saying that if
[15:38] Speaker 1: your mama is giving you the most football advice, you're
[15:40] Speaker 1: going to be getting out of bounds and you're going
[15:42] Speaker 1: to be sliding. You know what I mean? Let me
[15:44] Speaker 1: tell you what your mama don't give a damn about.
[15:46] Speaker 3: No extra yard.
[15:47] Speaker 1: Not with her baby. She might be thinking that Derek
[15:51] Speaker 1: Henry need to go out there and get an extra
[15:53] Speaker 1: yard or Mark Ingram needed to get an extra yard.
[15:56] Speaker 3: But you need to get your black ass down.
[15:58] Speaker 1: Right. But he doesn't take those big hits as a runner. However,
[16:06] Speaker 1: We saw this specifically with Cam Newton. This is the
[16:08] Speaker 1: greatest example. He had the career arc of a running
[16:11] Speaker 1: back because of all the miles that he had. You
[16:15] Speaker 1: want to get this gentleman to do it like Lamar.
[16:17] Speaker 1: This is really the time because we don't have a
[16:19] Speaker 1: great answer for how long this is going to go.
[16:20] Speaker 1: It is not, in all likelihood, this is not going
[16:22] Speaker 1: to be a 17 or 18 year career. And that's
[16:24] Speaker 1: not a slight or an insult to him. That's just
[16:26] Speaker 1: not how it works with guys like this. If you
[16:28] Speaker 1: decide you're going to do this and play this type
[16:30] Speaker 1: of quarterback, you're not going to have a 20 year.
[16:32] Speaker 1: It's not going to be that. Just not. And with
[16:35] Speaker 1: the athleticism fades for him. He'll still be able to pass,
[16:39] Speaker 1: but it's going to completely change the dynamics of how
[16:41] Speaker 1: he plays. This is the window to get this done.
[16:44] Speaker 1: All right. Either John Harbaugh gets it done or John
[16:48] Speaker 1: Harbaugh going to be sitting behind a desk as the
[16:50] Speaker 1: new Jimmy Johnson. Just you watch.
[16:58] Speaker 5: All right.
[16:58] Speaker 1: Now I had mentioned and made the point that that
[17:01] Speaker 1: game did not feel so much like the consolation bracket.
[17:05] Speaker 3: Between the Bills and the Ravens as it had before.
[17:08] Speaker 1: And the reason for that is very simple. The Chiefs
[17:12] Speaker 1: did not feel like champions in that game that they
[17:15] Speaker 1: played in Brazil against the Chargers. They did not. I
[17:20] Speaker 1: think big takeaway from that game, though, is there is
[17:24] Speaker 1: no quarterback whisperer quite like Jim Harbaugh now is there.
[17:28] Speaker 1: I don't know why. I don't know how, but there
[17:31] Speaker 1: is not.
[17:32] Speaker 2: And when Justin Herbert is at the peak of his powers,
[17:35] Speaker 2: I mean, when things are working for him and he's
[17:37] Speaker 2: hitting those throws and he has time, I get why
[17:41] Speaker 2: the nerds love him so much.
[17:42] Speaker 1: I mean, he's the king of the eye test, right?
[17:45] Speaker 7: He is.
[17:47] Speaker 1: Like, I made a point once that John Elway is
[17:50] Speaker 1: the best eye test quarterback in NFL history. And I
[17:54] Speaker 1: still believe that to be true. And people were like, well,
[17:56] Speaker 1: what about Aaron Rodgers? Aaron Rodgers has an eye test arm, right?
[18:02] Speaker 1: But getting off the bus, just seeing the dude in pants,
[18:07] Speaker 1: ready to go play. And you could be like, well,
[18:09] Speaker 1: people would hit me back with that. And they're like, well,
[18:11] Speaker 1: John Elway is 6'3, 220 or whatever. Well, Aaron Rodgers
[18:15] Speaker 1: is 6'2, 220 or whatever. Is it that big a difference? Look,
[18:18] Speaker 1: I don't make the rules, dog.
[18:20] Speaker 2: Aaron Rodgers didn't get drafted to play baseball.
[18:23] Speaker 1: Aaron Rodgers got, let me tell you, no matter how
[18:25] Speaker 1: much of a jerk people thought Aaron Rodgers was, that
[18:28] Speaker 1: same version of John Elway, whom people thought was a jerk,
[18:31] Speaker 1: wasn't nobody letting that slide to know number 25. You
[18:34] Speaker 1: just weren't.
[18:35] Speaker 2: John Elway wasn't sitting behind, wasn't sitting for two years.
[18:37] Speaker 1: Wasn't happening. Wasn't happening, man. Like, but if you, like,
[18:40] Speaker 1: that was the guy. Big, strong, he had, like, perfect
[18:44] Speaker 1: physical mechanics in the arm, and he could run and
[18:47] Speaker 1: all of those things. Justin Herbert fits very similar characteristics.
[18:51] Speaker 1: In fact, his eye test problem is that he's a
[18:53] Speaker 1: little too much of something, which is too tall because
[18:55] Speaker 1: he's about 6'6. And generally terrible haircuts. Like, you know,
[19:00] Speaker 1: there's that. But you get it. He's athletic. He's got
[19:04] Speaker 1: that arm. Somebody told me a story when that draft
[19:07] Speaker 1: was coming up. And because that was the draft with
[19:12] Speaker 1: Tua winning that draft. Was it Joe Burrow, Tua, and
[19:16] Speaker 1: Justin Herbert?
[19:17] Speaker 2: Yeah, those were three of the top six.
[19:19] Speaker 1: The 2020 draft, right. And somebody said about the Chargers,
[19:21] Speaker 1: they were like, and they talked to somebody in the organization,
[19:23] Speaker 1: they're like, all right, so we're going to take a
[19:26] Speaker 1: black dude this year. Like, for whatever reason, they had
[19:29] Speaker 1: concluded they were going to take a black dude. And
[19:31] Speaker 1: somebody was like, well, what about Herbert? They were like, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah,
[19:35] Speaker 1: close enough. That was what was relayed to me about
[19:40] Speaker 1: what they were doing with that team.
[19:42] Speaker 2: That was the year Tyrod was the starter.
[19:45] Speaker 1: That's right.
[19:45] Speaker 2: So they clearly committed organizationally.
[19:48] Speaker 1: They did. So that's like... now of course this story
[19:51] Speaker 1: may not have been a real relay because they had
[19:53] Speaker 1: a black coach at the time like when hugh jackson
[19:54] Speaker 1: was the coach people were assuming that they were just
[19:56] Speaker 1: gonna get a black coach and i was like you
[19:57] Speaker 1: don't know any black quarterback i'm like you don't know
[19:59] Speaker 1: anything about Hugh Jackson, who's like building for granted quarterback
[20:03] Speaker 1: is Carson Palmer, right? Like you guys have this wrong,
[20:05] Speaker 1: but I just say all that to say, that's the
[20:07] Speaker 1: athleticism that Justin Herbert is giving you. He looks and
[20:10] Speaker 1: can be whatever quarterback you want to be. The big
[20:13] Speaker 1: reason why quarterback whisperer, Jim Harbaugh took that job was
[20:16] Speaker 1: because of Justin Herbert. And when you think about it,
[20:19] Speaker 1: Jim Harbaugh is the guy who drafted Colin Kaepernick, who
[20:21] Speaker 1: was a very good football player for a decent period
[20:25] Speaker 1: of time. And they are very physically similar. Colin, of course,
[20:29] Speaker 1: is just a different level of runner. But when you
[20:31] Speaker 1: think about it, kind of tall, you know, tall, spindly
[20:34] Speaker 1: in some ways. Like, he's that guy. And he looked
[20:38] Speaker 1: like that guy in that game against the Chiefs. And
[20:42] Speaker 1: the Chiefs, after y'all told us that it was going
[20:44] Speaker 1: to be different, looked a lot like the Chiefs of
[20:46] Speaker 1: last year, where it's Patrick Mahomes throwing to some dudes
[20:50] Speaker 1: that they would have picked up in front of the
[20:51] Speaker 1: Home Depot.
[20:53] Speaker 3: Like, y'all doing anything today?
[20:54] Speaker 1: Y'all want some work?
[20:56] Speaker 3: All right, come on down there.
[20:57] Speaker 1: Xavier Worthy, who... If you're going to be a football
[21:05] Speaker 1: player that weigh like 20 pounds less than Beaumont Jones,
[21:09] Speaker 1: you got to be able to make them kicks from
[21:11] Speaker 1: 60 yards.
[21:12] Speaker 3: You understand what I'm saying?
[21:13] Speaker 1: That dude got hurt because he ran into his mans.
[21:17] Speaker 1: That's all that happened. He's just not that big, right?
[21:21] Speaker 4: And.
[21:21] Speaker 1: We have seen kind of smaller guys who can make
[21:24] Speaker 1: it happen that way, but he's not a bowling ball
[21:27] Speaker 1: type at his size. He's just really, really fast and
[21:30] Speaker 1: a good football player, but he's just not that big.
[21:33] Speaker 1: Rasheed Rice is now out on suspension. Travis Kelsey, he's
[21:43] Speaker 1: not young.
[21:45] Speaker 2: Older than me.
[21:47] Speaker 1: Okay, there we go. I couldn't quite remember. Was he
[21:49] Speaker 1: 36 now? Yeah.
[21:50] Speaker 5: Yeah, like.
[21:53] Speaker 1: Yeah, I shouldn't say it that way. But, yes, he's
[21:55] Speaker 1: an old man. Like, to be out here still playing
[21:58] Speaker 1: the football, he is an old man.
[22:00] Speaker 2: Still playing the football in a three-point stance.
[22:03] Speaker 1: Yeah, that's a great point. They don't have a great–
[22:09] Speaker 1: Kareem Hunt, by the way, he's still in the league all-star.
[22:13] Speaker 1: They're still giving him the ball. They tried to get
[22:16] Speaker 1: a running back when Edwards had Laird the other day.
[22:17] Speaker 1: You know who their leading rusher was in this game
[22:19] Speaker 1: on Friday night?
[22:20] Speaker 2: Patrick Mahomes?
[22:21] Speaker 3: Patrick Mahomes.
[22:21] Speaker 1: Patrick Mahomes. By a wide margin, I will note, Hollywood
[22:28] Speaker 1: Brown had a catch for 49 yards, Ryan, and the
[22:30] Speaker 1: rest of the catch is nine for 50. Like, this
[22:37] Speaker 1: is not encouraging what they're breaking out here in a
[22:40] Speaker 1: very tough division.
[22:41] Speaker 2: And the thing that they didn't look like last year
[22:44] Speaker 2: and the year prior is their defense looked really bad.
[22:48] Speaker 1: Indeed. And their defense has looked excellent at points. Now look,
[22:52] Speaker 1: maybe what we're talking about here is the Chargers are
[22:56] Speaker 1: really good and the Chargers may have the best coach
[23:00] Speaker 1: in that division. I think we would all agree at
[23:01] Speaker 1: this point that that is the best coached division in
[23:04] Speaker 1: the history of coaching in divisions, right? The only guy
[23:09] Speaker 1: that hasn't won a Super Bowl is Jim Harbaugh.
[23:13] Speaker 2: That's it. Might legitimately have, could possibly have four coaching
[23:17] Speaker 2: Hall of Famers.
[23:18] Speaker 1: I think that when all is said and done, they
[23:22] Speaker 1: will all go into the Hall of Fame. Andy Reid,
[23:25] Speaker 1: I think, is a no-brainer. I think Sean Payton, hey, man,
[23:30] Speaker 1: you win a Super Bowl with the Saints. That's like
[23:32] Speaker 1: when LeBron James won that championship in Cleveland. I understand
[23:34] Speaker 1: why he think that count for four or five. That's
[23:38] Speaker 1: against all laws. Right fast, I'm going to just say this.
[23:41] Speaker 1: They had a game on Sunday between the Saints and
[23:44] Speaker 1: the Cardinals, and I was looking in the crowd, and buddy,
[23:47] Speaker 1: I can't imagine caring enough about the Saints, the Cardinals,
[23:51] Speaker 1: or football to pay money for that.
[23:56] Speaker 2: Kyler Murray, Spencer Rattler doesn't get your butt in the seat?
[24:00] Speaker 1: Hey, Kyler Murray looked pretty good in that game, I
[24:02] Speaker 1: would have to say. I will say this for Spencer Rattler.
[24:04] Speaker 1: I don't want to make this about me, but I
[24:08] Speaker 1: think you'll understand where I'm coming from. I feel bad
[24:09] Speaker 1: for Spencer Rattler in the sense that he is still
[24:12] Speaker 1: having it held against him. the way that people perceived
[24:15] Speaker 1: his behavior in a docu-series that was done when he
[24:18] Speaker 1: was in high school. And I just think the idea
[24:22] Speaker 1: of holding against, I don't think it's fair to hold
[24:24] Speaker 1: it against anybody what they were in high school when
[24:26] Speaker 1: they're a sophomore in college. Like, you go to college,
[24:28] Speaker 1: you get to start over. You get to be a
[24:29] Speaker 1: whole new person. I was at the Super Bowl this year,
[24:33] Speaker 1: and Spencer Rattler, we were at some party. I think
[24:36] Speaker 1: it may have been the New Heights party. And we
[24:38] Speaker 1: were there, and he just stopped and saw me and
[24:40] Speaker 1: was like, Hey, Bomati Jones, Spencer Rattler, how are you?
[24:43] Speaker 1: And he took his hand out. And the thing that
[24:45] Speaker 1: struck me about that, Ryan, is if there's anybody that
[24:48] Speaker 1: don't need to introduce himself, it's Spencer Rattler.
[24:51] Speaker 2: You know what I mean? He's been, especially to someone
[24:53] Speaker 2: like you who follows recruiting, he's been in your life
[24:55] Speaker 2: for nearly, because he was a big, big time recruit.
[24:59] Speaker 1: He was that guy. I mean, he's the number one guy, right?
[25:01] Speaker 1: But the thing for me was, I was like, huh.
[25:04] Speaker 1: you don't need to introduce yourself to somebody who were,
[25:06] Speaker 1: I actually took that as, that's not the guy from
[25:09] Speaker 1: the docuseries. This is a level of humility, which also
[25:12] Speaker 1: for me was, I'm an old man because I'm like, wow,
[25:15] Speaker 1: he seemed like such a nice young man. I now
[25:18] Speaker 1: have these thoughts when I see people that has nothing
[25:20] Speaker 1: to do with what it is that we were talking about.
[25:22] Speaker 1: But for the Chiefs, here's what's crazy about the standard
[25:25] Speaker 1: that the Chiefs have gotten to. They have won their
[25:27] Speaker 1: division nine times in a row, right? Keeping in mind
[25:30] Speaker 1: that this takes it back to the Alex Smith days.
[25:33] Speaker 1: They've won the division nine times in a row. I
[25:36] Speaker 1: believe the only road playoff games my homes has played
[25:39] Speaker 1: was that year where they had to go to Buffalo
[25:41] Speaker 1: and they had to go to Baltimore, right? Like that's,
[25:44] Speaker 1: that's it for them going to play role playoff games.
[25:46] Speaker 1: This run has been so unreal. If they fall down
[25:51] Speaker 1: to winning a wild card or simply winning that division,
[25:55] Speaker 1: but not getting the number one seed, it's going to
[25:57] Speaker 1: feel like the wheels are coming off, right? Um, Which
[26:00] Speaker 1: makes it difficult for me to have a really great
[26:02] Speaker 1: grasp on how good they are at a given point
[26:06] Speaker 1: in time. Because the standard that they're held against is
[26:10] Speaker 1: truly unlike any standard that I can think of, right?
[26:13] Speaker 2: It's seven straight AFC championship games.
[26:16] Speaker 1: The Patriots did this, right? Like they're the only team
[26:20] Speaker 1: that I can think of in that way. But the
[26:24] Speaker 1: thing about the Patriots was even when the years were coming,
[26:26] Speaker 1: the Patriots weren't great. We only had one time when
[26:29] Speaker 1: we thought it was over for the Patriots and it
[26:32] Speaker 1: was 2014. Against the Chiefs. And they had that game
[26:34] Speaker 1: against the Chiefs and they got their doors blown off.
[26:36] Speaker 1: And I'll never forget, man, me and Dan Levitard sat
[26:39] Speaker 1: up there on television and we buried them. We were like,
[26:42] Speaker 1: this is what it looks like when it all falls apart, yada, yada, yada, da-da-da-da-da, da-da-da-da-da.
[26:49] Speaker 1: Four months later, Malcolm Butler made the interception at the
[26:53] Speaker 1: goal line and they won the Super Bowl again. And
[26:55] Speaker 1: it was just like, oh, never mind. It's kind of
[26:58] Speaker 1: like how we said Steph Curry was better than LeBron
[27:00] Speaker 1: and then they took the 3-1 lead and we didn't
[27:03] Speaker 1: start saying anybody was better than LeBron after that. Like,
[27:06] Speaker 1: we was petrified of going in that way. That's what
[27:09] Speaker 1: it was with the Patriots. But with the Chiefs, They
[27:14] Speaker 1: don't look like those guys, man. They don't look like it.
[27:17] Speaker 1: And Mahone, I don't know how much of this is coaching.
[27:21] Speaker 1: I don't know how much of this is the quarterback.
[27:23] Speaker 1: But as Brady declined, and the decline was obvious. And
[27:27] Speaker 1: in 2014, if you were watching, he did not look
[27:29] Speaker 1: like the same guy. He somehow got it back together.
[27:33] Speaker 1: But he didn't look like that guy at the time.
[27:35] Speaker 1: But I never felt like Tom Brady was reduced to
[27:40] Speaker 1: nickel and diming all the time.
[27:42] Speaker 3: Like truly to get it done. Although I guess at
[27:44] Speaker 3: the end, it felt like that.
[27:46] Speaker 1: But the part that's striking me about this is how
[27:49] Speaker 1: are you guys still nickel and diming it with the
[27:51] Speaker 1: greatest quarterback I've ever seen?
[27:53] Speaker 3: And you're never going to convince me it's because he
[27:55] Speaker 3: can't do it.
[27:55] Speaker 1: Because when he did have to dial it up, man,
[27:57] Speaker 1: he made some big, deep throws, right? Like I think
[28:00] Speaker 1: it was at Hollywood Brown, that big one he made
[28:03] Speaker 1: rolling right flush out of the pocket where Khalil Mack
[28:04] Speaker 1: was on his keister and he got it done. It's
[28:07] Speaker 1: not like we're seeing flashes. He hasn't gotten worse, but
[28:11] Speaker 1: they have. And they got to figure this out real
[28:15] Speaker 1: soon because the truth is, as much as I say it,
[28:18] Speaker 1: you know, if they just get to be a wild card,
[28:20] Speaker 1: we'll think the sky is falling. Missing the playoffs is
[28:23] Speaker 1: totally on the board. And one thing that's going to
[28:25] Speaker 1: be tough for them this year, while we talk about
[28:27] Speaker 1: the coaching, I don't know how many of you watched
[28:30] Speaker 1: parts of this game or saw any of it. And
[28:33] Speaker 1: I don't blame you if you did not. The Raiders
[28:36] Speaker 1: are not going to be good because I think their
[28:38] Speaker 1: defense is not going to be good. But Geno was amazing.
[28:45] Speaker 1: Gino with Chip Kelly? I just say that to say,
[28:50] Speaker 1: the wins that you felt like you could count against
[28:52] Speaker 1: the Raiders, 2023 notwithstanding, Chiefs fans, those wins you thought
[28:55] Speaker 1: you could count against the Raiders, you can't. This is
[28:59] Speaker 1: going to be a tough go for them. And that
[29:01] Speaker 1: is why Ravens-Bills doesn't feel like the consolation bracket doesn't
[29:06] Speaker 1: feel like it right now. That felt like a battle
[29:09] Speaker 1: between the two teams that are going to be playing
[29:10] Speaker 1: in the AFC Championship game. We'll see how confident I
[29:14] Speaker 1: feel about saying that later. But even now, I can't
[29:18] Speaker 1: believe I'm saying that about what the Chiefs have been.
[29:21] Speaker 1: And that is that's how they looked in Brazil, which
[29:24] Speaker 1: is to say kind of like boo boo.
[29:32] Speaker 3: Brian, we got some DraftKings action.

[30:59] Speaker 2: let's get to some other action that happened in NFL
[31:01] Speaker 2: Week 1. Tough loss for your Lions. They go down
[31:04] Speaker 2: 27-13 to the Packers. Goff sacked four times. But that's
[31:10] Speaker 2: your team. Bo, what happened?
[31:12] Speaker 1: We got a problem. We have a very big problem.
[31:16] Speaker 3: And the very big problem is, what's the center's name?
[31:19] Speaker 1: Ragnow? Frank Ragnow?
[31:20] Speaker 2: The one that retired?
[31:21] Speaker 1: The one that retired, yeah. Can somebody go to his
[31:24] Speaker 1: house and get him to bring his ass back? Because
[31:26] Speaker 1: the interior blocking was abysmal. Look, Michael Parsons was giving
[31:32] Speaker 1: Sewell a bit of the work. Yes.
[31:34] Speaker 2: And he played not even half the snaps.
[31:36] Speaker 7: Yeah, yeah.
[31:36] Speaker 1: Like, that was a thing, right? And the Packers might
[31:40] Speaker 1: be the best team in the NFC. Like, either Michael
[31:43] Speaker 1: Parsons or Rashawn Gary is your other guy coming off
[31:47] Speaker 1: the edge, right? Like, there's a thing going on. And obviously, offensively,
[31:50] Speaker 1: they look good. But I thought the Lions defensively, I
[31:53] Speaker 1: felt okay about that, right? Like, I do think... A
[31:58] Speaker 1: big problem for the Lions last year was pass rush.
[32:01] Speaker 1: And there wasn't enough of that. They did a great
[32:04] Speaker 1: job stopping the run though. Like they decided they were
[32:06] Speaker 1: going to stop Josh Jacobs and they did that. And
[32:08] Speaker 1: it wasn't like the Packers were out there putting up
[32:10] Speaker 1: video game numbers, right? Like that's not what happened. But
[32:14] Speaker 1: what did happen to me for the Lions is they
[32:16] Speaker 1: can't run because they can't get a push up the middle.
[32:20] Speaker 1: And if that's going to be the case all year long,
[32:23] Speaker 1: they're cooked. Like, this isn't going to be about Ben Johnson.
[32:26] Speaker 1: This ain't going to be about Aaron Glenn. This ain't
[32:28] Speaker 1: going to be about none of that. You've got to
[32:30] Speaker 1: get that push because what they have at quarterback is
[32:33] Speaker 1: the rich man's Kirk Cousins. And what I mean by
[32:36] Speaker 1: that is if everything is good around Kirk Cousins, I
[32:38] Speaker 1: think it was Scott McLuhan used to be the GM
[32:40] Speaker 1: at Washington made this point. If everything's good, everything's great
[32:43] Speaker 1: around Kirk Cousins, you can win some things. And I
[32:45] Speaker 1: think what we saw by the end of Kirk Cousins
[32:47] Speaker 1: time in Minnesota was if everything's great around him, you
[32:50] Speaker 1: can get to the division round of the playoffs.
[32:52] Speaker 2: There's a reason the Shanahan disciples got Kirk Cousins, their guy.
[32:56] Speaker 1: That is correct.
[32:57] Speaker 2: For 10 plus years now.
[32:59] Speaker 4: Right.
[32:59] Speaker 1: But you could only get it so far with Jared Goff.
[33:03] Speaker 1: You make everything great around him, and you can at
[33:06] Speaker 1: least get to a Super Bowl. I've seen it happen, right?
[33:10] Speaker 1: You could probably win a Super Bowl if you did
[33:13] Speaker 1: everything great around him. That interior offensive line situation is
[33:19] Speaker 1: the opposite of great, right? And so if they can't
[33:22] Speaker 1: solidify that run game that was such a big deal
[33:25] Speaker 1: for them last year, no, no, no, no, no, no.
[33:27] Speaker 1: You don't have a quarterback who can overcome. That's not
[33:30] Speaker 1: the kind of guy that you got. And you've got
[33:31] Speaker 1: a mentality of a team that requires you to hit
[33:34] Speaker 1: people in the mouth. Y'all going to need to start
[33:36] Speaker 1: hitting some people in the mouth. Otherwise, they're going to
[33:38] Speaker 1: miss the playoffs. And it's going to really stink because
[33:41] Speaker 1: I'm actually invested in this. Like, I have moments like
[33:45] Speaker 1: when Brian Branch, they called that, Brian Branch made that
[33:48] Speaker 1: interception and took it back to the house. And then
[33:50] Speaker 1: they called those two penalties. Dude, the mood swing I
[33:53] Speaker 1: had from when he got in to seeing all the flags,
[33:57] Speaker 1: I was just, This is not.
[33:59] Speaker 2: That's how you know they got you.
[34:02] Speaker 1: That was exactly how... Look, I fully knew they got
[34:05] Speaker 1: me when J-Mo threw that goddamn interception last year during
[34:09] Speaker 1: the playoffs.
[34:10] Speaker 2: They just locked him up, too. He's going to be
[34:12] Speaker 2: in your life for a couple more years.
[34:13] Speaker 1: Whose idea was that? You can't give him no money
[34:16] Speaker 1: up front. What are you talking about?
[34:19] Speaker 2: You got... Some people have to be on one-year deals forever.
[34:23] Speaker 3: For life.
[34:25] Speaker 1: For life.
[34:26] Speaker 2: I think the thing that I think is interesting to
[34:28] Speaker 2: me that you pointed out is you talked about the
[34:31] Speaker 2: identity of that team. And Dan Campbell is on that
[34:33] Speaker 2: Marshawn Lynch run through MF's face. Yes. That is his
[34:37] Speaker 2: whole philosophy of coaching. And again, when you're struggling center
[34:41] Speaker 2: guard guard, that's not going to be as much.
[34:43] Speaker 4: Of an option.
[34:43] Speaker 3: Bad news, man. It's bad news.
[34:45] Speaker 1: I'm nervous.
[34:46] Speaker 4: I'm nervous.
[34:46] Speaker 3: I'm really, really nervous.
[34:49] Speaker 2: All right.
[34:50] Speaker 1: But at least there's the Bears.
[34:51] Speaker 2: Yeah. Next week, you got the Bears and Ben Johnson
[34:55] Speaker 2: coming back.
[34:56] Speaker 1: That's that schedule, though. They're we're going to test the
[35:00] Speaker 1: resolve of this team, because if you go look at that,
[35:02] Speaker 1: they got like the Bears and the Browns. I want
[35:04] Speaker 1: to I think they get the Bears, the Browns in
[35:06] Speaker 1: the line and the Giants. And then other than that,
[35:09] Speaker 1: it's like Vikings, Ravens, Chiefs.
[35:15] Speaker 2: Yeah, I think they have the AFC West and, you know,
[35:19] Speaker 2: obviously their own division, which might be the toughest in football.
[35:21] Speaker 1: Well, they have their own division. Oh, they got to
[35:23] Speaker 1: play the Bucs? So, yeah, here's what we're looking at now,
[35:25] Speaker 1: just so you know for my guys. Bears at the Ravens.
[35:29] Speaker 1: Browns at the Bengals. Okay, you know, okay. At the Chiefs.
[35:35] Speaker 1: Bucs at home. Vikings at home. At the Commandos. At
[35:39] Speaker 1: the Lions. I think that's when they get, no, the
[35:42] Speaker 1: Bucs not then. Home for the Giants. Thanksgiving against the Packers. Yeah,
[35:50] Speaker 1: the bye is after the bucks. I'm sorry.
[35:52] Speaker 3: Can we talk about something else?
[35:53] Speaker 2: All right. Speaking of people making new destinations, Aaron Rodgers
[35:59] Speaker 2: playing for his new team. He threw for four touchdowns
[36:01] Speaker 2: in a 34-32 win against the Jets. After the game,
[36:04] Speaker 2: he took a bit of a victory lap. Let's take
[36:06] Speaker 2: a listen.
[36:07] Speaker 8: You spoke about the meeting with Aaron Glenn on McAfee
[36:11] Speaker 8: a few months ago. Beating him, is there significance in
[36:14] Speaker 8: that since he basically told you to your face that
[36:17] Speaker 8: he didn't think you.
[36:18] Speaker 4: Were right for that team? Yes, that's what he did.
[36:22] Speaker 8: So there's significance in beating him for you?
[36:24] Speaker 2: I was happy to beat everybody associated with the Jets.
[36:29] Speaker 5: Hey, man.
[36:32] Speaker 1: We all acknowledge that Aaron Rodgers is a bit of
[36:33] Speaker 1: a grump. Can't blame him for that one at all.
[36:37] Speaker 1: They did make him fly across the country to fire him.
[36:41] Speaker 2: To break him up with him, yeah.
[36:43] Speaker 1: That did happen. They made him get on the plane
[36:46] Speaker 1: to shit can him. They could have easily got on
[36:48] Speaker 1: the plane to go to his house to shit can him. No,
[36:50] Speaker 1: they brought him in and they canned him. And look,
[36:53] Speaker 1: they both look to be better off without each other.
[36:56] Speaker 1: I felt like that it may have been the best
[36:57] Speaker 1: Justin Fields game I had ever seen. Like he looked
[37:00] Speaker 1: more like a poised, composed, ready to do it quarterback
[37:04] Speaker 1: than I think that I had seen him look In
[37:06] Speaker 1: his time.
[37:07] Speaker 2: They're just leaning, they're leaning into his strengths. It looks,
[37:09] Speaker 2: it looks like he's playing at Ohio State.
[37:11] Speaker 1: But look, the best era, the best version of Justin
[37:13] Speaker 1: Fields that we had seen is the one that ran
[37:15] Speaker 1: for 1,200 yards.
[37:16] Speaker 2: Okay.
[37:17] Speaker 1: Yes, he had the two Russian touchdowns, whatever. 16 for 22,
[37:21] Speaker 1: 218 yards, a touchdown, no picks. That's 10 yards in attempt.
[37:24] Speaker 1: And he, it looked different. Like this was I watched
[37:28] Speaker 1: that game with my man, Josh. He is a Jets fan.
[37:31] Speaker 1: And I have been watching Jets games intermittently with him
[37:33] Speaker 1: for the last nine years. And I've never seen him
[37:36] Speaker 1: this happy about the Jets. And that was in a loss.
[37:39] Speaker 1: Right now, of course, that fumble on that kickoff felt
[37:42] Speaker 1: very familiar to him.
[37:44] Speaker 2: Yeah, that's the world he resides in.
[37:46] Speaker 1: That was Jetsy. That was real Jetsy. Like, Ryan, that
[37:49] Speaker 1: reminds me. How long have you been living here?
[37:52] Speaker 2: I think we moved here the same year. So eight
[37:55] Speaker 2: or nine years now.
[37:56] Speaker 4: Oh, yeah.
[37:56] Speaker 1: So this is football season nine for you. There are
[37:58] Speaker 1: two football teams in this city. It is year nine,
[38:00] Speaker 1: and we've seen one good football season from the local teams. Yeah.
[38:05] Speaker 3: That year, the Giants won a playoff game.
[38:06] Speaker 2: With Daniel Jones.
[38:08] Speaker 1: With Daniel Jones.
[38:08] Speaker 4: Yes.
[38:09] Speaker 1: Like that is, that is, by the way, somebody looked good.
[38:11] Speaker 1: Somebody looked pretty good on Sunday.
[38:13] Speaker 2: Someone looked good in a new spot.
[38:14] Speaker 1: Yep. But he all, he looked good in part because
[38:17] Speaker 1: the other team looked bad. They looked like they was
[38:20] Speaker 1: going to fire their coach week one. But anyway, Aaron
[38:23] Speaker 1: Rodgers was dealing Jack. Like there were moments where it
[38:26] Speaker 1: still looked like this new version of Aaron Rodgers, but
[38:28] Speaker 1: that was four touchdown passes and he looked good. Like
[38:32] Speaker 1: if he can look anything like that for the rest
[38:35] Speaker 1: of the year, like maybe this is his last hurrah
[38:38] Speaker 1: and ain't no telling what, what's the word I'm looking for?
[38:40] Speaker 1: Homeopathic remedies that he might've, you know, come across in
[38:44] Speaker 1: the off season. If he's going to look like that
[38:46] Speaker 1: and we got on the Steelers, like you, you, The
[38:48] Speaker 1: best quarterback you could get was Aaron Rodgers. This is
[38:50] Speaker 1: what you were playing for. Okay. Hey, if he looks
[38:53] Speaker 1: like that, they go win a playoff game for the
[38:57] Speaker 1: first time since, yeah, they ain't won a playoff game
[39:02] Speaker 1: since Obama.
[39:03] Speaker 2: Yeah, it's been a long time. And you assume Mike
[39:05] Speaker 2: Tomlin's not going to be giving up 32 points every
[39:07] Speaker 2: weekend and week out.
[39:09] Speaker 1: No, no, but hey, man, that's them New York Jets, baby. Like,
[39:14] Speaker 1: we'll see what it looks like at the end of
[39:15] Speaker 1: the year, but hey, man, my man A.G., you know
[39:17] Speaker 1: what I'm saying, is my man, H-Town, Northside, no less.
[39:21] Speaker 1: If Eric Lynn got the Jets looking like this, hey, man, shoot,
[39:26] Speaker 1: he keep that going fireman ed might even vote for
[39:28] Speaker 1: zoron well let me tell you if there's anything that
[39:31] Speaker 1: i can say with confidence about fireman ed he does
[39:34] Speaker 1: not live in the five.
[39:35] Speaker 2: Even if he did Even if he somehow, you know,
[39:42] Speaker 2: trekked from Staten Island to... That's exactly what I was
[39:46] Speaker 2: about to say. If he is in one.
[39:48] Speaker 1: Of the five boroughs, I know exactly which one it is.
[39:52] Speaker 2: I promise you he was not casting a vote for
[39:55] Speaker 2: Big Z.
[39:56] Speaker 1: No.
[39:59] Speaker 2: All right. Anyway, last story here. You alluded to this.
[40:02] Speaker 2: The Dolphins got blown out by Daniel Jones and the Colts.
[40:06] Speaker 2: They lost 33 to 8. Daniel Jones... The Colts became
[40:09] Speaker 2: the first team since 1977 to score on every possession,
[40:14] Speaker 2: according to ESPN research. Tyreek Hill noticeably upset on the sideline. Bo,
[40:19] Speaker 2: your thoughts.
[40:20] Speaker 1: One, I don't know how long they can allow him
[40:22] Speaker 1: to stay on that team. Like you and I were
[40:25] Speaker 1: just talking about the unceremonious end for Howard Stern.
[40:28] Speaker 2: Yeah.
[40:29] Speaker 1: And the truth is, if you are serious, you people
[40:31] Speaker 1: who have never worked in radio don't quite get this.
[40:34] Speaker 1: But this is the truth, man. If you are serious
[40:36] Speaker 1: and you decide that you're not going to bring Howard
[40:38] Speaker 1: Stern back, it can't be no farewell show.
[40:42] Speaker 5: No.
[40:42] Speaker 1: You're going to hate that show. That farewell show is
[40:46] Speaker 1: not going to be pleasant.
[40:47] Speaker 2: It doesn't matter how many people buy serious to listen
[40:50] Speaker 2: to that farewell show. It's not going to be worth it.
[40:52] Speaker 1: Broke people act a fool on their last radio show,
[40:57] Speaker 1: let alone a man with hundreds of millions of dollars.
[41:00] Speaker 1: You just can't let some people stick around while they're grumpy.
[41:03] Speaker 4: Right.
[41:04] Speaker 1: This is just the nature of the business. Tyreek Hill,
[41:07] Speaker 1: who they did not make the captain. Everybody seems out
[41:10] Speaker 1: on him. Y'all had to get rid of him. Like
[41:12] Speaker 1: bringing him back is a little bit crazy, given what
[41:15] Speaker 1: the circumstances are. And it's week one. He's on the
[41:17] Speaker 1: sideline looking like this. They've gotten beat by 25 points
[41:22] Speaker 1: three times in the four years that McDaniel has been there.
[41:27] Speaker 1: I think most of us like him. We would like
[41:29] Speaker 1: to see it go well for him. But that experiment
[41:31] Speaker 1: seems to have run out of rope.
[41:34] Speaker 2: You know, there's nothing wrong with being the offensive coordinator
[41:37] Speaker 2: for the 49ers or the Lions next year.
[41:39] Speaker 1: That is correct. Now, the problem, of course, here is
[41:43] Speaker 1: some of this is Mike McDaniel. But his wagon has
[41:47] Speaker 1: been hitched to a guy that I feel very confident
[41:50] Speaker 1: saying just ain't got it. And that's Tua. Like, I
[41:54] Speaker 1: just don't. If everything with him, if everything is going right,
[41:59] Speaker 1: he can do it is not simply about the surrounding talent.
[42:02] Speaker 1: It's about like the execution. If everything is running on time,
[42:07] Speaker 1: he's got this for you, right? Otherwise, not so much.
[42:11] Speaker 1: And that's before we talk about, you know, maybe out
[42:14] Speaker 1: here trying to kill him. Like we haven't even gotten
[42:18] Speaker 1: to that point, but that was... That was a staggeringly
[42:22] Speaker 1: embarrassing performance to come out of the gate.
[42:25] Speaker 2: For a team that the rumors were the vibes are bad,
[42:29] Speaker 2: the vibes are bad, the vibes are bad. And then
[42:31] Speaker 2: you get blown. The door is blown off you by
[42:34] Speaker 2: Daniel Jones.
[42:35] Speaker 4: Yeah.
[42:36] Speaker 1: And look, the rest of your division, the Patriots, they
[42:38] Speaker 1: didn't win against the Raiders, but I still think a
[42:40] Speaker 1: lot of it came out like, eh, could have been worse.
[42:42] Speaker 4: Right.
[42:43] Speaker 1: The Jets, not too shabby. Miami could not have been
[42:47] Speaker 1: worse could not have been worse but at once it
[42:50] Speaker 1: couldn't have been worse but also didn't feel like an
[42:52] Speaker 1: outlier performance.
[42:54] Speaker 2: Right it didn't feel I didn't feel like we're a
[42:56] Speaker 2: game where everything goes wrong you have bad fumble luck
[42:58] Speaker 2: you know you're driving like you you referenced you know
[43:00] Speaker 2: drop a kickoff or something but it was just they
[43:04] Speaker 2: they they did not it's never good when you're quitting
[43:06] Speaker 2: week one hey man.
[43:08] Speaker 1: Did you know that Zach Wilson is wearing number zero.
[43:12] Speaker 2: No, I did not. He's still in the league.
[43:16] Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah.
[43:17] Speaker 1: At age like 26, right?
[43:18] Speaker 4: Right.
[43:18] Speaker 1: Look, I don't like that they let people go willy-nilly
[43:23] Speaker 1: with the numbers. That feels like an old man take,
[43:26] Speaker 1: but it's chaos. I don't dig that.
[43:29] Speaker 2: We live in a society.
[43:30] Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
[43:31] Speaker 5: Right.
[43:31] Speaker 1: I don't dig it. And I think the, can they
[43:33] Speaker 1: wear a number zero? Nah, I don't think we should
[43:35] Speaker 1: have allowed that unless you were like, Jim Otto, double zero, maybe, right? Like,
[43:39] Speaker 1: I wasn't here for this. But, Wearing number zero is
[43:44] Speaker 1: not quarterback behavior. You understand what I'm saying? Like, I
[43:48] Speaker 1: don't think showing up to the press conference wearing all
[43:51] Speaker 1: the funny looking clothes is quarterback behavior either. Like, I
[43:54] Speaker 1: think the quarterback is a different role. You can put
[43:56] Speaker 1: yourself in a different way. If you are wearing number zero,
[44:00] Speaker 1: that's personal foul behavior.
[44:03] Speaker 3: You understand what I'm saying? That's commissioner's list behavior.
[44:07] Speaker 1: Like, number zero is for wild cards. you're not supposed
[44:12] Speaker 1: to be no wild card. Like that's, you know what
[44:14] Speaker 1: that is? That's a number for characters.
[44:18] Speaker 2: And Zach Wilson's a lot of things. He's not a character.
[44:20] Speaker 1: He is not a character. No, no, no, no, no.
[44:22] Speaker 1: He is not. Or at the very least, even if
[44:25] Speaker 1: you are a character, like Cam Newton didn't go full
[44:27] Speaker 1: character until after he was somebody's quarterback.
[44:30] Speaker 4: Right.
[44:30] Speaker 1: The quarterback is not supposed to be a character. I
[44:34] Speaker 1: saw Kyler Murray wearing some funny looking pink pants coming
[44:37] Speaker 1: in the studio and I was in the stadium and.
[44:39] Speaker 3: I was like, hey man, It's not quarterback behavior, brother.
[44:43] Speaker 3: That's character behavior.
[44:45] Speaker 2: All right, Bo, we've opened up the voicemail line, you know,
[44:52] Speaker 2: to anything and everything. Got some good submissions this week.
[44:56] Speaker 2: Let's take a listen.
[44:57] Speaker 4: Hey, Bo.
[44:59] Speaker 6: I'm a childless man like yourself who's a little older,
[45:04] Speaker 6: younger than you, but still a little on the older side.
[45:07] Speaker 6: My friends are now starting to finally have kids. I
[45:11] Speaker 6: don't interact with a lot of children in my current
[45:15] Speaker 6: state in life. However, I feel like kids are ruder
[45:21] Speaker 6: than they used to be. And I was wondering if
[45:24] Speaker 6: you felt the same or if it's just like every
[45:27] Speaker 6: generation thinks the younger generation is a little ruder. It's
[45:31] Speaker 6: mostly that they just cut in front of me. I
[45:33] Speaker 6: don't know what it is, but I feel like with
[45:36] Speaker 6: this group of children more than others, adults are just
[45:39] Speaker 6: kind of invisible to them.
[45:43] Speaker 3: That's an interesting question. Ryan, there was a lot of
[45:50] Speaker 3: subtle shade.
[45:51] Speaker 2: Yeah. I don't know if you're saying kids are ruder
[45:55] Speaker 2: or parents are worse.
[45:56] Speaker 1: No, I'm talking about all that shit before.
[45:58] Speaker 3: You know, I'm a little on the older side.
[45:59] Speaker 1: You know, not as old as you.
[46:02] Speaker 2: I didn't think we had. I think I took that
[46:05] Speaker 2: personally situation.
[46:06] Speaker 1: Yeah, I was just kind of like, oh, OK. Like,
[46:09] Speaker 1: I guess I'll answer your question. I don't know, man.
[46:12] Speaker 1: You got to remember, kids love me. Like, I am.
[46:15] Speaker 1: I don't know why. I am everybody's favorite uncle type
[46:18] Speaker 1: of situation with kids. And they might be a little
[46:21] Speaker 1: ruder than they used to be, but you know what
[46:23] Speaker 1: they still are? Kids, right? You give them that look,
[46:27] Speaker 1: they still know what that look means. Like, and especially
[46:30] Speaker 1: if they ain't never really got it before, it really
[46:33] Speaker 1: hits them from a stranger grown up that they kind
[46:37] Speaker 1: of know a little bit, though. They respond. Oh, yeah.
[46:40] Speaker 5: Hey.
[46:41] Speaker 1: Because they know what they're not supposed to be doing. Like,
[46:43] Speaker 1: that is one of my favorite things about, like, kids
[46:45] Speaker 1: before they're old enough to talk. Like, Ryan, your son's
[46:47] Speaker 1: about two. You know exactly what I'm talking about. They
[46:50] Speaker 1: know when they're not supposed to be doing something. Yes.
[46:52] Speaker 1: And when you catch them in it and just give
[46:54] Speaker 1: them that look like, you know you're not supposed to
[46:57] Speaker 1: be doing that. You see it wash over them like.
[47:00] Speaker 2: My son is not old enough to be rude, but
[47:02] Speaker 2: he's certainly old enough to know when he's not supposed
[47:04] Speaker 2: to be doing stuff. Yes. Mostly because he thinks it's funny. Yes.
[47:08] Speaker 1: But they give that. Peek around the corner. They still
[47:13] Speaker 1: do all of that stuff.
[47:13] Speaker 2: They got the smart, yeah.
[47:14] Speaker 7: Yep.
[47:15] Speaker 1: And when you give them the A, they chill out.
[47:20] Speaker 1: And sometimes they chuckle and laugh about it. Like, I
[47:23] Speaker 1: remember the first time with Nick's daughter. She was small
[47:25] Speaker 1: enough for that. She did try to run some of
[47:27] Speaker 1: that game on me. Because, of course, she would think
[47:28] Speaker 1: she could run game on me. I'd give her the world.
[47:30] Speaker 4: Right?
[47:31] Speaker 1: She tried to run that game on me, and I
[47:32] Speaker 1: just looked at her like... What did you say? And
[47:34] Speaker 1: she was just like, okay, tried it. Just see if
[47:38] Speaker 1: it will work.
[47:38] Speaker 2: Well, here's the thing. When they're two and you're the grown-up,
[47:42] Speaker 2: you've got to be the winner in that situation.
[47:44] Speaker 1: Yeah, that's the thing. You can't be outsmarted.
[47:45] Speaker 2: You can't be outsmarted. You can try not to be
[47:47] Speaker 2: outsmarted by a two-year-old.
[47:48] Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah. Last thing, you can't negotiate with terrorists. Just
[47:53] Speaker 1: throwing it out there.
[47:55] Speaker 2: All right, here's our next one.
[47:57] Speaker 5: What's up, folks? This is your boy, Javon. Coming out
[48:00] Speaker 5: of the southwest side of H-Town by way of Louisiana,
[48:03] Speaker 5: Lake Charles, I-10 by 10. Don't stop inviting. You already
[48:07] Speaker 5: know what it is. Man, I got a question for you.
[48:10] Speaker 5: I know you grew up in the mid-90s in Houston
[48:13] Speaker 5: on the north side, but what are your thoughts on
[48:17] Speaker 5: screw music? I've never heard you talk about it. Maybe
[48:21] Speaker 5: you have before, but I'm just curious. Do you like it? Like,
[48:24] Speaker 5: what do you think of it? Like, do you still
[48:26] Speaker 5: listen to it? You grew up in an era where
[48:28] Speaker 5: that was basically coming about in Houston. So I'm just
[48:31] Speaker 5: curious your take on screw music. And, you know, if
[48:35] Speaker 5: you like it, how do you feel it represents Houston?
[48:37] Speaker 5: Appreciate it, man.
[48:38] Speaker 4: Love the show.
[48:40] Speaker 1: Hey, Rice, a little bit of you, a little bit
[48:41] Speaker 1: of me, right?
[48:42] Speaker 4: Oh, yeah.
[48:43] Speaker 1: Coming from Lake Charles to Houston. Of course, my part
[48:46] Speaker 1: of Houston and his part of Houston are damn near
[48:48] Speaker 1: as far from each other as Lake Charles and Houston,
[48:50] Speaker 1: but that's a discussion for another day.
[48:52] Speaker 2: That's like Manhattan and Brooklyn.
[48:54] Speaker 4: Yes.
[48:54] Speaker 1: So, yeah, the screw thing got popping when I was
[48:57] Speaker 1: in high school. Like, I want to say Pimp the
[48:59] Speaker 1: Pin came out when I was in 10th or 11th grade.
[49:03] Speaker 3: Like, I know it's 95, and those of you who
[49:04] Speaker 3: are not from Houston.
[49:05] Speaker 1: Draped up and dripped out, know what I'm talking about.
[49:08] Speaker 1: Three in the morning, got the burner out the stash spot.
[49:11] Speaker 1: That joint, right? Um... Not for me. Not for me.
[49:18] Speaker 1: And the reason it's not for me is actually like
[49:21] Speaker 1: fairly simple I think it's obvious if you listen to
[49:23] Speaker 1: screw a couple things one I don't I ain't never
[49:27] Speaker 1: said no lean right like the the the setting for
[49:30] Speaker 1: this music is just always been a bit lost on
[49:34] Speaker 1: me um but there are things like You chop and
[49:38] Speaker 1: screw to write Slow Jam, I'm with it. Like, there
[49:41] Speaker 1: are songs that you can chop and screw that I'll
[49:43] Speaker 1: go for. My thing with Screw Tapes was.
[49:50] Speaker 1: It was an absolute and total lack of quality control.
[49:56] Speaker 1: They let anybody get on these songs, rap it, they
[50:00] Speaker 1: be like, man, he freestyling. I would hope so!
[50:03] Speaker 4: Yeah!
[50:04] Speaker 1: If you took the time to write that down and
[50:07] Speaker 1: edit it, what are you talking about, right? And so
[50:09] Speaker 1: they let anybody in there on them songs talk about anything,
[50:14] Speaker 1: talk about nothing. So when you get cats that can
[50:16] Speaker 1: actually rap and get on it. And so when the
[50:18] Speaker 1: Swisher House stuff started coming out and they had more
[50:20] Speaker 1: cats that could rap, I'm like, okay, I can see
[50:23] Speaker 1: what's going on here. But it was just... It also was,
[50:27] Speaker 1: and this is for me, and this changed over time.
[50:29] Speaker 1: The Mixtape Messiah series, when Commillionaire came out there and
[50:31] Speaker 1: was like, hey man, we got to step the game up.
[50:33] Speaker 1: And you look at how much better rappers from Houston
[50:35] Speaker 1: are now than they were then. That was a much
[50:38] Speaker 1: more impactful piece of media than I think anybody gives
[50:41] Speaker 1: you credit for because it was like, look man, the
[50:42] Speaker 1: rest of the country out here laughing at us. I
[50:44] Speaker 1: don't know if it was going that far, but as
[50:46] Speaker 1: somebody who knew him back in the day, I knew
[50:48] Speaker 1: exactly where he was coming from.
[50:49] Speaker 3: I knew what he was into.
[50:50] Speaker 1: I knew all that stuff, right? I totally get it.
[50:54] Speaker 1: But For me, it just got to a point that
[50:58] Speaker 1: as I'm listening to it, that I understand that locally
[51:02] Speaker 1: there is a bit of a rejection of what was
[51:05] Speaker 1: considered to be quote unquote hip hop versus rap because
[51:08] Speaker 1: of the rejection that Southerners felt from those people toward
[51:12] Speaker 1: their culture and toward their music. Like, you know, it's
[51:15] Speaker 1: the Pimp C line, these country rap tunes. But let
[51:17] Speaker 1: me tell you what Pimp C had, incredibly high quality control. Right? Like,
[51:22] Speaker 1: that was in place there. And so for me and
[51:24] Speaker 1: them Screwtastes, they were just cranking them bad boys out.
[51:26] Speaker 1: Because they were like, man, these cats don't care if
[51:27] Speaker 1: anybody can rap. Just give them some beats, and that'll
[51:31] Speaker 1: do the job. And me, as somebody who did like
[51:34] Speaker 1: all that hip-hop and was into different stuff, I just
[51:37] Speaker 1: wanted the music to be a little bit better. But
[51:39] Speaker 1: when it was good, it was good.
[51:42] Speaker 2: All right, here's our next one.
[51:44] Speaker 8: Hi, Bo.
[51:45] Speaker 7: Enjoy the show. Just wondering from your perspective, at this
[51:48] Speaker 7: point in their respective careers, Whose rap legacy is more salvageable?
[51:55] Speaker 7: Is it Kanye or is it Drake? You asked me,
[51:59] Speaker 7: both of them have taken so many self-inflicted L's, it's
[52:02] Speaker 7: impossible to see how any one of them would be
[52:07] Speaker 7: able to get back on the winning track of any way.
[52:11] Speaker 7: And I don't see a path either way. So, in
[52:15] Speaker 7: your opinion, who do you think has the better shot?
[52:18] Speaker 3: Nah, brother, I don't think anybody's winning this contest.
[52:22] Speaker 1: One, especially for Kanye, he's too old. He's too old,
[52:26] Speaker 1: and I don't know how he could put together anything
[52:28] Speaker 1: dope enough that the people that are out on him
[52:32] Speaker 1: would care to check it out. I don't think he
[52:34] Speaker 1: has anything left, and I need to be careful because
[52:37] Speaker 1: I haven't listened to anything he's made in seven years,
[52:40] Speaker 1: at least at this point.
[52:40] Speaker 2: It's been a long time.
[52:41] Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah. I think the last thing I checked out
[52:44] Speaker 1: was the record he did in Wyoming, the Ye Joint.
[52:48] Speaker 1: And so I was just like, all right, hey man,
[52:50] Speaker 1: it happens.
[52:51] Speaker 3: Sometimes you ain't got nothing left, right?
[52:55] Speaker 1: With Drake, I don't know if he can get it back.
[52:59] Speaker 1: Like part of what he had was a bit of
[53:00] Speaker 1: a vibe or as the kids say, an aura. I
[53:03] Speaker 1: don't know if he can get it back, but he's
[53:05] Speaker 1: also 39 years old. Like he might have to go
[53:08] Speaker 1: away for a long time and come back with like
[53:10] Speaker 1: one of them, like the LL Cool J album that
[53:12] Speaker 1: just came out that he did with Q-Tip. Like look man,
[53:14] Speaker 1: the old dudes all came back and wrecked shop this year.
[53:17] Speaker 1: They all came back at Rep Shop. LL Cool J,
[53:21] Speaker 1: you know, the Clips joint ain't my favorite, but they
[53:23] Speaker 1: came and they did it. And there's other examples of
[53:25] Speaker 1: these cats that came back around. That Raekwon album, not
[53:28] Speaker 1: my favorite, but not bad. I still need to listen
[53:30] Speaker 1: to the new Supreme clientele. But people of that generation
[53:33] Speaker 1: came back and made a lot of really good records.
[53:35] Speaker 1: But these are guys that go back to a time
[53:37] Speaker 1: where the thing that was most important was how good
[53:39] Speaker 1: you could rap. And Drake is a really good rapper
[53:42] Speaker 1: when he's on it, but it was the vibes, man.
[53:45] Speaker 1: Like that's what he was selling as much as anything
[53:47] Speaker 1: else was vibes and lifestyle.
[53:49] Speaker 3: People don't believe in no more.
[53:50] Speaker 2: And like you said, we talked about these people are old.
[53:54] Speaker 2: Rap's a young game. And, you know, after 10, how
[53:58] Speaker 2: many of these great rappers last past 10 years, right?
[54:02] Speaker 4: Yeah.
[54:02] Speaker 2: 10, 15 years. I mean, and that's how, I mean,
[54:04] Speaker 2: how far Kanye and Drake are going back.
[54:06] Speaker 1: Yeah, look, man, Drake, let's say, Drake has had a very,
[54:08] Speaker 1: very long career. Like, the expectation that you could keep
[54:11] Speaker 1: this going at this point is asking for a lot
[54:14] Speaker 1: out of this dude. But, hey, man, once people stop
[54:17] Speaker 1: believing you, it's hard. Only man to come back from
[54:22] Speaker 1: us not believing him was Rick Ross. It's hard to
[54:26] Speaker 1: come back from that. And people just don't believe it.
[54:30] Speaker 1: And I don't think that he matured in a way where, look,
[54:32] Speaker 1: his base, man, people 40 years old now. And they,
[54:36] Speaker 1: only people that still want to hear what Drake used
[54:38] Speaker 1: to be or what Drake has become is suckers.
[54:42] Speaker 2: All right, here's our last one.
[54:44] Speaker 4: What's going on, Bo? It's Jamal from D.C. Not sure
[54:48] Speaker 4: if you came across this yet, but Starz has a
[54:50] Speaker 4: documentary about Magic City. And so I'm just curious to
[54:54] Speaker 4: see If you have any interesting or podcast appropriate stories
[54:59] Speaker 4: about about times that you may have been to Magic City.
[55:04] Speaker 4: Long time listener. Appreciate it. Keep it up.
[55:09] Speaker 1: The first time I went to a gentleman's establishment, I
[55:11] Speaker 1: was 18 years old and I went to Magic City
[55:14] Speaker 1: and I didn't know anything like that was possible. The
[55:18] Speaker 1: second time I went to Magic City, I was 21
[55:20] Speaker 1: years old. And I spent the last $ 35 I had
[55:24] Speaker 1: to my name at Magic City. I should stop there.
