[0:05] Speaker 1: Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the right time. A wave original.
[0:09] Speaker 1: My name is Beaumont Jones. Thanks for listening wherever you
[0:11] Speaker 1: get your podcast. Thanks for watching us on YouTube. Subscribe, like,
[0:16] Speaker 1: rate us, review us, give us five stars. You only
[0:18] Speaker 1: give us four stars. I'm inclined to believe you are
[0:21] Speaker 1: a hater. We will get to the Sharon Brown story. Sorry,
[0:25] Speaker 1: we did a lot of pre-recording last week and then
[0:28] Speaker 1: that shit happened. So, you know. Shouldn't have left you
[0:31] Speaker 1: without a dope beat step, too. However, it just works
[0:33] Speaker 1: out that way sometimes.
[0:34] Speaker 2: Uh, Shrung Moore.
[0:38] Speaker 1: You know who I was mixing him up with, Ryan? I.
[0:41] Speaker 3: I.
[0:41] Speaker 2: You said they, uh... Senator, the old, the Senator from Ohio.
[0:45] Speaker 1: Yes, I was. Yes, I was. I was visiting him
[0:48] Speaker 1: up with, how does he say it? Sherrod?
[0:51] Speaker 2: I think, yeah, it looks like Sherrod, but I believe
[0:54] Speaker 2: it's Sherrod.
[0:54] Speaker 1: Yeah, I think he goes with Sherrod. And I wonder, like.
[0:57] Speaker 2: They don't make a lot of either of those.
[0:59] Speaker 1: Right, and when Sherrod, like, became a thing, was he
[1:03] Speaker 1: sitting around saying y'all are saying it wrong?
[1:07] Speaker 3: Right?
[1:07] Speaker 1: Like, it means he's just insisting. Like, no, no, no, no, no, no, no.
[1:11] Speaker 1: It is Sherrod, not Sherrod. And somebody was like, hey, Rob,
[1:15] Speaker 1: what you say, bro? I ain't even really understand you
[1:18] Speaker 1: like that.
[1:19] Speaker 2: It depends on what parts of Ohio he was in.
[1:21] Speaker 1: Yeah, I have so many questions because I also feel
[1:22] Speaker 1: like his Sherrod precedes the proliferation of Sherrods in the
[1:29] Speaker 1: larger society.
[1:30] Speaker 4: Right?
[1:32] Speaker 1: Or perhaps when he was born, I guess somebody thought
[1:36] Speaker 1: it was He had a different daddy. You know what
[1:39] Speaker 1: I mean? Many things are possible. Anything can happen. Anyway,
[1:44] Speaker 1: it is Sherold Moore. You are correct. And I'm glad
[1:47] Speaker 1: I had funny jokes to make off of that. Otherwise,
[1:50] Speaker 1: we'd have had to re-rack and start it again. However,
[1:53] Speaker 1: we're here.
[1:54] Speaker 3: Here we are.
[1:54] Speaker 1: We're rolling. We'll get to that. And now I have
[1:57] Speaker 1: to put on my solemn face because Patrick Mahomes has
[2:00] Speaker 1: a torn ACL. Best quarterback I believe that I have
[2:04] Speaker 1: ever seen and seen. One that I don't have the
[2:07] Speaker 1: greatest interpretation of his play this year, but I'm just
[2:09] Speaker 1: not inclined to believe that out of nowhere he became terrible.
[2:12] Speaker 1: Lamar Jackson is creating a similar conversation, although he don't
[2:20] Speaker 1: play good. I don't understand that either. But either way,
[2:24] Speaker 1: with Mahomes, it's a torn ACL. It happens. Basically, they
[2:30] Speaker 1: weren't going to win that game. They're not going to
[2:32] Speaker 1: go to the playoffs anymore. So almost in a way,
[2:36] Speaker 1: it wouldn't have mattered if they were 13 and 0, right?
[2:43] Speaker 1: Mahomes has his ACL. All of this is moot. It's
[2:46] Speaker 1: a wrap on you guys. You're done. They try to
[2:49] Speaker 1: garden a miss you out there. Like, come on, man.
[2:51] Speaker 1: It just ain't going to be. Now, obviously, you don't
[2:57] Speaker 1: want your quarterback to suffer a major injury. But I
[3:02] Speaker 1: think it's very interesting to consider at times, like, ACL
[3:05] Speaker 1: still sounds like ACL. You know what a torn ACL
[3:08] Speaker 1: is in a lot of ways? A torn ACL is
[3:12] Speaker 1: a lot like the word millionaire. Okay? And here's what
[3:16] Speaker 1: I mean by that. Millionaire at one time meant someone
[3:24] Speaker 1: who had $ 1 million or someone who made $ 1 million
[3:29] Speaker 1: a year, however you want to put it, right? Okay. However,
[3:34] Speaker 1: What a million dollars means is much different now than
[3:41] Speaker 1: what it used to mean. It used to mean you
[3:44] Speaker 1: had a much more of a staggering sum of money
[3:47] Speaker 1: because inflation, da, da, da, everything else, right? So like
[3:51] Speaker 1: people who are millionaires now, the word in technically speaking,
[3:59] Speaker 1: May mean the same thing, what a million dollars is,
[4:02] Speaker 1: but in the actual function of it, not quite. But
[4:04] Speaker 1: when people call somebody a millionaire, they still mean it
[4:08] Speaker 1: like they did back in the days of Daddy Warbucks, right?
[4:12] Speaker 1: They say it the exact same way, they mean it
[4:15] Speaker 1: the same way, but a million dollars ain't the same.
[4:17] Speaker 1: Torn ACL is very similar in the sense that while
[4:21] Speaker 1: it is a lot of injury, just as a million
[4:24] Speaker 1: dollars is still a lot of money. But Robin Leach
[4:30] Speaker 1: ain't showing up on your house for no one million dollars.
[4:33] Speaker 1: And there's a little bit less doom and gloom around
[4:36] Speaker 1: the idea that you have a torn ACL.
[4:39] Speaker 3: Right.
[4:40] Speaker 1: I think it is fair to assume that at some
[4:44] Speaker 1: point next season, Patrick Mahomes will be back. I think
[4:49] Speaker 1: it would be silly to try to rush that process, right?
[4:53] Speaker 1: You don't need to get yourself on no Robert Griffin
[4:56] Speaker 1: all in for week one situation. Go ahead and take
[5:00] Speaker 1: your time and take this opportunity to look around the
[5:05] Speaker 1: place and ask yourself, What kind of changes is it
[5:09] Speaker 1: that you need to make? Because maybe y'all need to
[5:13] Speaker 1: make some changes. And I say that because, Ryan, how
[5:17] Speaker 1: many of them went 15 games last year?
[5:20] Speaker 2: Yeah, they went 15-2.
[5:21] Speaker 1: They went 15-2, and they went to the Super Bowl.
[5:24] Speaker 1: And yes, they got their clocks cleaned in the Super Bowl,
[5:27] Speaker 1: and it was a bit of a cliffhanger season, but
[5:30] Speaker 1: They won 15 games last year. And I think most
[5:34] Speaker 1: of us believed that they got better.
[5:36] Speaker 2: Right.
[5:37] Speaker 1: After last year, coming into this year, the advanced numbers,
[5:40] Speaker 1: like we talked about this DVOA, they were top 10
[5:42] Speaker 1: DVOA team, but they lived at the margins last year.
[5:45] Speaker 1: And this year at those same margins, it was going
[5:48] Speaker 1: in the opposite direction. And that makes it somewhat difficult
[5:50] Speaker 1: to evaluate how good you are or are not, right?
[5:55] Speaker 1: From where I'm standing. I do think, and you tell
[5:57] Speaker 1: me if I'm wrong here, Chris Jones is a thank
[6:01] Speaker 1: you for the memories. We're going to play a real
[6:02] Speaker 1: long video when you come back and play against us
[6:05] Speaker 1: for another team, one that you will try to seek
[6:07] Speaker 1: out in your own division because you're going to be mad.
[6:10] Speaker 2: Right.
[6:11] Speaker 1: Right. Like Chris Jones, Denver Bronco. I don't know anything
[6:14] Speaker 1: about the cap or anything else, but that's the kind
[6:16] Speaker 1: of stuff that happens. Right.
[6:18] Speaker 3: Right.
[6:19] Speaker 1: They're going to have decisions to make about him. Travis Kelsey.
[6:22] Speaker 1: This has to be over. Right. I mean, I don't
[6:25] Speaker 1: think he's been bad this year, but I don't know.
[6:28] Speaker 1: How much money you can keep pumping into this? I
[6:30] Speaker 1: don't know how much more he's going to want to do. Like,
[6:32] Speaker 1: you think he want to come back and play with
[6:33] Speaker 1: no guard to miss you?
[6:34] Speaker 2: And he's got, let's say, other things he can do.
[6:37] Speaker 1: He does. He does. Matter of time before he and
[6:42] Speaker 1: Klay Thompson get a podcast together. Clay Johnson, you see
[6:48] Speaker 1: that where Megan Stallion put that video up of her
[6:51] Speaker 1: picking out his clothes for him and then putting that
[6:54] Speaker 1: thang on him and then he showed up in those clothes.
[6:56] Speaker 1: I'm surprised that he even still comes to the games.
[7:01] Speaker 2: Right like again again someone with better options.
[7:05] Speaker 1: Yo he is in and i look good good for
[7:08] Speaker 1: all the people involved i want to be very clear.
[7:10] Speaker 2: About everyone involved seems very happy.
[7:12] Speaker 1: Yeah but clay thompson in particular look like that kind
[7:15] Speaker 1: of like i'm in college love right right like it
[7:18] Speaker 1: hits you for the first time and college love can
[7:21] Speaker 1: definitely have you skipping classes I don't know how much
[7:26] Speaker 1: longer she's going to keep on rapping.
[7:28] Speaker 3: All of this.
[7:29] Speaker 1: But I look at him in particular. I don't even know.
[7:32] Speaker 1: And y'all ain't even good. I'm sorry. You want to
[7:36] Speaker 1: talk about going through the motions in practice. Especially with
[7:41] Speaker 1: that dumpster fire that they've got over there.
[7:45] Speaker 2: Oh, yeah. Who wants to go to work and hang
[7:47] Speaker 2: out with Jason Kidd?
[7:48] Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah. When nothing's going the way that it was
[7:51] Speaker 1: supposed to. You see, what's his name?
[7:53] Speaker 5: Lively?
[7:53] Speaker 1: He got hurt.
[7:54] Speaker 2: Yeah.
[7:55] Speaker 1: So, like, all the reasons we thought they might be
[7:58] Speaker 1: able to make, you know, make something out of that situation.
[8:01] Speaker 2: They're going to trade Anthony Davis. Yeah, it's... Yeah. I
[8:04] Speaker 2: don't know. I think... The Mavericks and Klay Thompson have
[8:09] Speaker 2: agreed to a contract buyout for X amount of numbers.
[8:12] Speaker 2: Feels very March-ish.
[8:13] Speaker 1: Yes, although it's entirely possible that Klay... None of this
[8:17] Speaker 1: bothers him.
[8:18] Speaker 2: Yeah.
[8:19] Speaker 1: He could be... He might just be showing up to
[8:21] Speaker 1: work like, oh man, we lost again.
[8:22] Speaker 2: Yeah.
[8:23] Speaker 1: Shucks. Shucks.
[8:25] Speaker 2: I'm going to go back to my very famous, very attractive,
[8:29] Speaker 2: very talented wife who's also... A very good cook on
[8:32] Speaker 2: the side.
[8:33] Speaker 1: And my four championships rings that I've already acquired.
[8:36] Speaker 2: And my nearly $ 300 million I made playing basketball.
[8:39] Speaker 1: Why does he still come to work? I don't understand
[8:44] Speaker 1: why he still comes to work. Patrick Mahomes might be
[8:47] Speaker 1: itching to get his ass back, though, but that's neither
[8:48] Speaker 1: here nor there.
[8:49] Speaker 2: Talk about a spouse who might start a podcast.
[8:51] Speaker 1: I'm just saying might. I don't know nothing that's going
[8:55] Speaker 1: on in their life, right? I've seen enough of Klay
[8:57] Speaker 1: Thompson to know what's going on there. Patrick Mahomes, I
[9:00] Speaker 1: have no idea. I'm just throwing up the possibility that
[9:03] Speaker 1: you might be out here putting in work, right?
[9:07] Speaker 2: Aggressively attacking his rehab.
[9:09] Speaker 1: Yeah, here I was talking about he ain't going to
[9:11] Speaker 1: get back for week one. You never know. He might
[9:14] Speaker 1: be like, No, I'll be back for OTAs. Who's to say?
[9:19] Speaker 1: We got somebody we'll talk about a little bit later
[9:22] Speaker 1: that apparently, you know, didn't want to be home that
[9:25] Speaker 1: bad himself. But they got to figure some stuff out, man.
[9:29] Speaker 1: All right. Like the Chiefs are in a situation now.
[9:32] Speaker 1: And it's not just simply that they have to figure
[9:33] Speaker 1: some stuff out. They have the opportunity to do it.
[9:37] Speaker 1: This can happen where you get something a little bad happens.
[9:40] Speaker 1: And now, you know, sometimes it is that somebody will
[9:44] Speaker 1: go in and they'll have one surgery. But since they
[9:49] Speaker 1: in there for the first surgery, like go ahead and
[9:51] Speaker 1: be like, OK, well, since you're going to be laid up,
[9:53] Speaker 1: why don't we go ahead and do this scope on
[9:55] Speaker 1: your ankle, too? Right. That happens sometimes. feel like that
[10:01] Speaker 1: is the situation the Chiefs are in this is a
[10:03] Speaker 1: question that my good buddy Charlie Kravitz brought up while
[10:06] Speaker 1: we were talking both bouncing things I was preparing for
[10:09] Speaker 1: our various shows but Kravitz made a very interesting point
[10:11] Speaker 1: about this Kyle Shanahan over there making it happen with
[10:16] Speaker 1: Matt Corkle Jones. They got a receiver they spend like
[10:21] Speaker 1: $ 30 million a year on. They just got rid of him. Like,
[10:26] Speaker 1: he doesn't even play. Christian McCaffrey's gotten old. George Kittle
[10:30] Speaker 1: is whatever age he is, whatever. But you hand Kyle
[10:33] Speaker 1: Shanahan whatever, Kyle Shanahan will cook up an offense for you.
[10:40] Speaker 1: Andy Reid has... perhaps the best quarterback of all time. And,
[10:48] Speaker 1: I mean, we generally agreed that what they had going
[10:51] Speaker 1: on at receiver was pretty good coming into this year,
[10:53] Speaker 1: especially after they got Rasheed Rice back, right? Like, remember,
[10:56] Speaker 1: we thought that anything that we thought was short with
[10:59] Speaker 1: that offense, well, once he came back off of that suspension,
[11:02] Speaker 1: we're looking at it like, oh, okay, cool. Well, now
[11:04] Speaker 1: they're going to be straight, right? Like, I felt good
[11:06] Speaker 1: about seeing Thornton. Like, they had speed. They had guys
[11:08] Speaker 1: that could at least get down the field and get open.
[11:11] Speaker 1: They're not able to generate much offense. They're not able
[11:13] Speaker 1: to run the ball. This game against the Chargers, they
[11:15] Speaker 1: couldn't run the ball. How much of that is scheme, right?
[11:22] Speaker 1: How much of that is not a question of how
[11:24] Speaker 1: good the coach is. It's a question of how good
[11:28] Speaker 1: of a job the coach is doing, given what they had. Mike,
[11:33] Speaker 1: now's the chance and opportunity for them to do the
[11:36] Speaker 1: math on all of these things. because worst case scenario
[11:44] Speaker 1: just showed up man like like this is the thing
[11:47] Speaker 1: we're at that time of year in the nfl where
[11:50] Speaker 1: now the guys are dropping like flies um and we're
[11:53] Speaker 1: not at the point of the 17th game of the
[11:55] Speaker 1: season but i mean i think some of this does
[11:57] Speaker 1: wind up being cumulative year over year or whatever but
[11:59] Speaker 1: every additional game of football you play is another chance
[12:02] Speaker 1: for a catastrophe right that's just kind of how how
[12:05] Speaker 1: it goes uh michael parsons that sounds like an acl
[12:09] Speaker 1: tear um Ryan, they say in all the things they
[12:13] Speaker 1: say when they know it's an ACL tear, but they
[12:15] Speaker 1: just hope it gets hope with that MRI.
[12:18] Speaker 2: You look at Adam Schefter's Twitter and it's Micah Parsons,
[12:23] Speaker 2: coach commenting on Micah Parsons, does not look good. Sean
[12:26] Speaker 2: McVay on Devontae Adams, does not look good. Puka Nakua
[12:32] Speaker 2: walked out of that game. He ended up coming back. And,
[12:35] Speaker 2: of course, you know, what happened with Micah and– Patrick
[12:38] Speaker 2: Mahomes today.
[12:39] Speaker 1: Yeah. Devontae Adams. I was watching that play as it happened.
[12:41] Speaker 1: It looked like it's that old sniper.
[12:44] Speaker 6: Yeah.
[12:44] Speaker 1: Right. Like he just went straight down. Like this is,
[12:49] Speaker 1: can your team hold up? Right. That's just, that's just
[12:53] Speaker 1: really what this comes down to now from this point
[12:54] Speaker 1: for the rest. And if you're in a position where
[12:57] Speaker 1: you lose your best player, Now you really check some things, right?
[13:01] Speaker 1: I'm going to say this, though. I know the Cowboys,
[13:04] Speaker 1: they play the Vikings. We recorded before that game because
[13:07] Speaker 1: we don't really care that much. But I tell you,
[13:09] Speaker 1: it's a high possibility that Jerry Jones is going to
[13:11] Speaker 1: say the wrong thing. You know, so I like I
[13:16] Speaker 1: will tell you people right now, it's 823 Eastern Time
[13:20] Speaker 1: when we are recording this. So if Jerry happened to
[13:23] Speaker 1: say something like, well, you know. We were a little
[13:26] Speaker 1: bit fearful of something like that.
[13:27] Speaker 2: We will talk about it on Tuesday.
[13:29] Speaker 1: Yeah. That is why we decided to trade him. I
[13:33] Speaker 1: don't know that he's going to say that, but it's
[13:35] Speaker 1: totally in the cards that I can look like a psychic.
[13:38] Speaker 1: And he says the exact same thing that I'm talking
[13:41] Speaker 1: about right now. Jerry, don't be remembering that anybody is
[13:44] Speaker 1: out here listening to him, paying attention to the words
[13:48] Speaker 1: that he says, right? It could happen. Um, But also
[13:53] Speaker 1: there's this possibility, Ryan, let me get you back on
[13:55] Speaker 1: this because I'm curious what you think here. Chiefs been
[13:57] Speaker 1: doing this for 10 years, man. Right. Like even in
[14:00] Speaker 1: the presence of the greatest quarterback we've ever seen, maybe
[14:06] Speaker 1: this is how a run is supposed to end.
[14:09] Speaker 2: Yeah. I mean, you look, obviously you make the AFC
[14:12] Speaker 2: championship game 17 years or seven years in a row,
[14:15] Speaker 2: excuse me. They've been making the playoffs every year from 2014.
[14:18] Speaker 2: Obviously some of that predates Patrick Mahomes, you know, in
[14:22] Speaker 2: the Alex Smith years, I think Kelsey was probably had
[14:26] Speaker 2: a piece in all of that. Yeah. So like you look,
[14:29] Speaker 2: I mean, the cumulative effect, they've essentially played an extra
[14:32] Speaker 2: season's worth of games over this last half decade. And
[14:35] Speaker 2: that has to have a wear and tear on everyone
[14:36] Speaker 2: on that building.
[14:37] Speaker 3: Yeah.
[14:38] Speaker 1: Like whatever it is, it's going to be the next
[14:41] Speaker 1: stretch of this run. So I think the Brady years
[14:43] Speaker 1: are the Patriots. I feel like we can break down
[14:45] Speaker 1: into three stretches. And the stretch is really, the inflection
[14:51] Speaker 1: point is Randy Moss.
[14:52] Speaker 2: Right.
[14:53] Speaker 1: Right? Like, there is, to me.
[14:54] Speaker 2: On both ends. Right, right.
[14:56] Speaker 1: It's before Moss, during Moss, after Moss. And during Moss,
[15:02] Speaker 1: to be fair, is only if, like, what is it,
[15:04] Speaker 1: a three-year stretch? Yeah. Like, 07, 08, 09, and then
[15:07] Speaker 1: 2010 is when they traded him to the Vikings.
[15:09] Speaker 5: But.
[15:10] Speaker 1: Those are the different runs. That middle one has the
[15:13] Speaker 1: 17-1 season or 16-1, however it turned out. Yeah, 18-1.
[15:18] Speaker 1: There we go. That run had the year where Brady
[15:21] Speaker 1: gets hurt, right? But then even in 09, he came back.
[15:24] Speaker 1: He was really good. That team was one thing. It
[15:28] Speaker 1: was built around another paradigm where they did not have
[15:31] Speaker 1: any great receiving threat. You had very good Troy Brown,
[15:34] Speaker 1: for example. You had Deion Branch. And then after, it
[15:36] Speaker 1: is the tight end era. It is Rob Gronkowski, the
[15:39] Speaker 1: stretch with Aaron Hernandez. It's basically when they just started
[15:41] Speaker 1: throwing the ball to the white boys.
[15:42] Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, you're not even mentioning Wes Walker or
[15:45] Speaker 2: Julian Edelman. Yes, yes.
[15:46] Speaker 1: Chris Hogan, remember him? Chris Hogan, yes.
[15:49] Speaker 2: Danny Amendola.
[15:50] Speaker 1: Gunnar Olszewski.
[15:53] Speaker 3: Right?
[15:53] Speaker 1: That's just when Belichick had the Google alert, right? Just, hey, look,
[15:59] Speaker 1: there must have been a nonprofit, like a placement organization,
[16:02] Speaker 1: like the one that puts poor black kids into prep schools.
[16:05] Speaker 2: Right.
[16:05] Speaker 1: Like somebody had to be like, no, if you just
[16:07] Speaker 1: sit down and interview him, you'll see what we're talking
[16:09] Speaker 1: about and we'll make it work. But whatever the run was,
[16:13] Speaker 1: that run is done.
[16:15] Speaker 5: Right.
[16:15] Speaker 1: I guess we would call that the it's really kind
[16:17] Speaker 1: of the Travis Kelsey era, as you know, you're correct
[16:20] Speaker 1: in the Alex Smith part. Right. Like Kelsey's kind of
[16:22] Speaker 1: the bridge. But obviously we're talking about Patrick Mahomes. Right.
[16:25] Speaker 1: But if we say it's the end of Kelsey, it's
[16:27] Speaker 1: the end of Mahomes. This is going to be the split. Look,
[16:31] Speaker 1: you got tickets to sell and everything else, but you
[16:33] Speaker 1: don't put him back on the field until like you
[16:35] Speaker 1: put him back at the end of next season. So
[16:37] Speaker 1: he's not starting like when Paul George broke his leg
[16:41] Speaker 1: and they brought him back for eight games at the
[16:43] Speaker 1: end of one year because there was no reason to
[16:44] Speaker 1: come at the top of the next year with him.
[16:47] Speaker 1: Like with all that, whatever was apprehensive or whatever wasn't solid,
[16:50] Speaker 1: like go ahead and work that stuff out now. But
[16:52] Speaker 1: if this is the end of that run, that's what
[16:55] Speaker 1: five Super Bowls. three championships, a 5,000-yard passing season, three MVPs.
[17:02] Speaker 2: Yeah. With maybe the greatest tight end of all time.
[17:07] Speaker 1: With possibly the best tight end in the history of
[17:11] Speaker 1: the Kansas City Chiefs, maybe.
[17:14] Speaker 2: Oh, interesting.
[17:15] Speaker 1: Oh, no, no. Look, and this is no knock to
[17:18] Speaker 1: Travis Kelsey. You could make the argument that Travis Kelsey
[17:23] Speaker 1: is the fifth best tight end in the history of
[17:26] Speaker 1: of the AFC West.
[17:29] Speaker 2: Gronk?
[17:30] Speaker 1: Oh, no, no, no. AFC West. Antonio Gates. In no
[17:35] Speaker 1: particular order.
[17:36] Speaker 2: Antonio Gates.
[17:36] Speaker 1: Antonio Gates.
[17:37] Speaker 2: Shannon Sharp.
[17:38] Speaker 1: Shannon Sharp. Kelly Winslow.
[17:40] Speaker 2: Tony Gonzalez.
[17:41] Speaker 1: Tony Gonzalez. Dave Casper is also in the Hall of Fame,
[17:44] Speaker 1: for whatever it's worth. I don't have the same frame
[17:46] Speaker 1: of reference on him. That's just to say that is
[17:49] Speaker 1: the division of great tight ends.
[17:50] Speaker 2: Yes.
[17:51] Speaker 1: That's all I'm saying.
[17:51] Speaker 5: Is there.
[17:53] Speaker 1: Antonio Gates... had a hundred something touchdown catches.
[17:57] Speaker 2: Yeah. I mean, his stats look unreal. And I mean,
[18:01] Speaker 2: and I mean, obviously like people like Shannon was unbelievable.
[18:04] Speaker 2: Winslow was unbelievable. Like those are, or you said it's
[18:07] Speaker 2: a conference of great tight ends.
[18:08] Speaker 3: Yeah.
[18:09] Speaker 1: But this is the thing I'd say about Gates. That's
[18:11] Speaker 1: a bit different relative to all of them is that
[18:13] Speaker 1: Gates was a number like Shannon sharp was a threat
[18:17] Speaker 1: as a tight end. Antonio Gates, I feel like for
[18:21] Speaker 1: the entirety of his run was basically the number one receiver.
[18:24] Speaker 3: Right.
[18:25] Speaker 1: I don't recall a Tyreek Hill on the Antonio Gates watch.
[18:32] Speaker 1: He was that guy, right? Let's say 100-something touchdown catch.
[18:37] Speaker 1: We talked about Phillip Rivers. The idea that Phillip Rivers
[18:40] Speaker 1: is going to the Hall of Fame, if he does,
[18:41] Speaker 1: Antonio Gates is a significant reason why that could happen.
[18:46] Speaker 1: But no, this would be an unreal run that they
[18:50] Speaker 1: have had, right? Like, just nuts. It is kind of
[18:55] Speaker 1: whack that it would end with a Patrick Mahomes ACL tear,
[18:58] Speaker 1: but I don't think he's done.
[19:00] Speaker 2: No. Quickly, there are always seven receivers with more touchdowns
[19:05] Speaker 2: than Antonio Gates.
[19:05] Speaker 1: Yeah, that's what I'm saying. Like, I think people miss a.
[19:10] Speaker 2: And one of them we're not allowed to name on
[19:11] Speaker 2: the show. Oh, yeah, yeah.
[19:14] Speaker 1: No, no, no. It's not like... Like, look, just to
[19:16] Speaker 1: be clear on tight ends, to me, there's two lists.
[19:19] Speaker 1: There's the list that has Gronk on it.
[19:21] Speaker 2: Yeah, we haven't said the word Gronk yet.
[19:24] Speaker 1: And then the one for the rest of you.
[19:26] Speaker 2: Yeah.
[19:27] Speaker 1: Like, Travis Kelsey is a better tight end to Rob Gronkowski. No, man. Like,
[19:34] Speaker 1: don't let my buddy Nick get y'all out here lying
[19:36] Speaker 1: to y'all selves. And if it's not Nick that's got
[19:38] Speaker 1: you saying that, stop smoking crack. Ryan, I want you
[19:47] Speaker 1: to jump on here with me because you can... vouch
[19:50] Speaker 1: for the truth in this. I was telling you about this.
[19:52] Speaker 1: So we have recorded all of our episodes for the
[19:56] Speaker 1: week by Wednesday, right? We had some travel situations to
[19:59] Speaker 1: deal with and stuff like that, so we got everything
[20:01] Speaker 1: recorded early. Thank you guys also for checking out the
[20:04] Speaker 1: interview with Alex Stapleton, director of the Diddy Doc, right?
[20:07] Speaker 1: We appreciate y'all on that. So anyway... Gerard Moore. Was
[20:11] Speaker 1: it Wednesday night? Wednesday?
[20:14] Speaker 2: It was Wednesday. Yeah, Wednesday evening.
[20:16] Speaker 1: Yeah, Wednesday at the 4 o'clock hour. We have time stamps.
[20:19] Speaker 1: It was Wednesday at the 4 o'clock hour that word
[20:21] Speaker 1: got out that he had been fired. And I immediately
[20:26] Speaker 1: started hearing some wild stuff, right? People immediately. And when
[20:31] Speaker 1: I say I was hearing, I'm not saying it's like
[20:33] Speaker 1: I'm some kind of journalist, but it was enough. that
[20:36] Speaker 1: it was like, oh, wow, there's stuff going on here, right?
[20:40] Speaker 1: So I was getting a call from all the networks
[20:43] Speaker 1: all day long to CNN on Thursdays like, yo, can
[20:45] Speaker 1: you come on and talk about this Michigan coach? And
[20:47] Speaker 1: I'm like, hey, man, I don't really got that much
[20:50] Speaker 1: to talk about, but I'm going to be honest with you.
[20:52] Speaker 1: I'm hearing that a lot might come down the pipe,
[20:54] Speaker 1: so I'm going to pass on this. And they're like, well,
[20:57] Speaker 1: here's our reporting. I'm like, yeah, I don't think– I'm
[21:00] Speaker 1: going to just not talk about none of this.
[21:03] Speaker 3: Yeah.
[21:04] Speaker 1: It's five days since I said that. And I personally
[21:08] Speaker 1: feel like now it's finally appropriate to talk about this. Like,
[21:13] Speaker 1: I'm so glad that there was nothing that was offering
[21:16] Speaker 1: me any pressure to talk about this before because we
[21:19] Speaker 1: needed stuff to happen. And the thing that I didn't
[21:22] Speaker 1: expect to happen was that he was going to be
[21:25] Speaker 1: arraigned in the white jumpsuit in a rubber room.
[21:29] Speaker 3: Right.
[21:29] Speaker 2: I mean, he took his arraignments. On Zoom.
[21:32] Speaker 1: On Zoom.
[21:34] Speaker 2: Yeah, like it was 2020.
[21:37] Speaker 1: It's over, right? Like, after this is done, we will
[21:43] Speaker 1: never see his face again. Think about this. He doesn't
[21:50] Speaker 1: turn 40 until February, okay? He got a dream job,
[21:56] Speaker 1: and his entire career is over. before he turned 40
[22:03] Speaker 1: years old, right? Now, Ryan, I feel this is a
[22:08] Speaker 1: time where it's glad, you know, I got you here
[22:10] Speaker 1: with me and that we are of somewhat different cultural backgrounds, right?
[22:13] Speaker 2: Right.
[22:14] Speaker 1: Because we can just acknowledge that for all parties involved here,
[22:18] Speaker 1: the story is made more salacious by the fact that
[22:22] Speaker 1: he risked it all behind some young white woman that
[22:24] Speaker 1: worked in the office.
[22:26] Speaker 2: His assistant. Yeah. Yes.
[22:28] Speaker 1: This is still, uh, a hot button issue in America, right?
[22:36] Speaker 1: It don't get people killed necessarily, but it still hits people, right?
[22:43] Speaker 1: And that is squarely where we are in this. I
[22:48] Speaker 1: don't know how it's going for the white delegation, but
[22:51] Speaker 1: I can tell you for much of the black delegation,
[22:54] Speaker 1: the fact that this gentleman is lost it all behind
[22:57] Speaker 1: that particular white woman in that particular station in life
[23:00] Speaker 1: is not going over well with the people. I do
[23:05] Speaker 1: not know what he will have to do to get
[23:08] Speaker 1: sympathy from the folks. But as of right now, he's.
[23:11] Speaker 2: Got a long way to go.
[23:12] Speaker 1: He's got a, he's got a, he's got a long,
[23:13] Speaker 1: he's got a really, really, really long way to go
[23:16] Speaker 1: to get the sympathy. I, um, I'm not going to
[23:21] Speaker 1: tell that very good joke that I have in mind
[23:24] Speaker 1: because I just don't need the misinterpretation and the aggregation.
[23:27] Speaker 1: But yes, he has a long way to go to
[23:29] Speaker 1: get back because he lost it all behind this. And
[23:34] Speaker 1: that was before we started hearing that he's that guy.
[23:41] Speaker 1: What guy? That guy, right? The guy that get caught slipping,
[23:47] Speaker 1: living in a college town, sleeping with the woman that
[23:49] Speaker 1: works in the office. Like, that's not a really uncommon story.
[23:54] Speaker 1: It's a bad idea and it's wrong. But there are
[23:57] Speaker 1: also a lot of romances that start with similar sorts
[24:00] Speaker 1: of stories, right? Like, I don't think people are that
[24:05] Speaker 1: terribly offended by the idea that he had a relationship
[24:09] Speaker 1: with somebody in the office. But with the understanding that
[24:12] Speaker 1: if you get caught, You know, you got to deal
[24:15] Speaker 1: with whatever comes.
[24:17] Speaker 2: It's an industry that leads itself to that situation.
[24:19] Speaker 1: Yes, it is. Yes, it is. For a number of reasons,
[24:22] Speaker 1: for what it's worth, right? However, when the people find
[24:27] Speaker 1: out that apparently you be hitting them up on the
[24:29] Speaker 1: OnlyFans and you were exchanging messages with the woman off
[24:33] Speaker 1: the OnlyFans during the national championship game, per her telling,
[24:37] Speaker 1: per her telling, just throwing that out there, and.
[24:43] Speaker 1: Clearly this man has a problem. Right? He has a
[24:47] Speaker 1: problem and then he went and bust up in this
[24:50] Speaker 1: woman's house, allegedly, with a knife, allegedly, threatening to do
[24:55] Speaker 1: harm to himself, allegedly. Meaning that there's a great chance
[25:00] Speaker 1: that he's going to jail behind this. Like, not forever jail,
[25:05] Speaker 1: but I don't... It seems totally in the cards that
[25:09] Speaker 1: he could wind up going to jail for this. I've
[25:11] Speaker 1: never seen any I can't name anything like this. I
[25:16] Speaker 1: have nothing comparable that comes to my mind in terms
[25:21] Speaker 1: of what a... Every term seems corny, like fall from grace,
[25:26] Speaker 1: whatever it is. All of these things just seem absurd
[25:31] Speaker 1: to bring up. However, if it makes them feel any better,
[25:38] Speaker 1: you're not going to go down alone because... If any
[25:43] Speaker 1: of you have ever dreamed of being the athletic director
[25:45] Speaker 1: at the University of Michigan, I think you'll have a
[25:48] Speaker 1: chance to put in an application, right? And I believe
[25:52] Speaker 1: that you'll have this chance to put in an application
[25:54] Speaker 1: because apparently a man that they knew might not have
[25:57] Speaker 1: been all the way straight, they fired him for cause
[26:00] Speaker 1: and only the athletic director was there with him. Now,
[26:04] Speaker 1: I'm going to give Ward Manuel the benefit of the
[26:05] Speaker 1: doubt here. What if... He felt like he knew this
[26:10] Speaker 1: person and that he was afraid that things could get
[26:13] Speaker 1: worse if there was a lot of people around. And
[26:16] Speaker 1: he thought that that was the best way to manage
[26:17] Speaker 1: the situation. I'm going to just tell you like this.
[26:22] Speaker 1: I done seen people walked out of the office after
[26:26] Speaker 1: getting fired for under far less combustible circumstances than these. Okay.
[26:32] Speaker 1: I've seen people make the argument that they should have
[26:35] Speaker 1: had mental health professionals there when he got fired. I'm
[26:38] Speaker 1: going to be honest with you. My imagination is not
[26:40] Speaker 1: that good. I never would have thought about that. Right.
[26:43] Speaker 1: Like I just I mean, it makes sense. I'm not
[26:45] Speaker 1: saying I'm not saying I don't hear you. I'm saying
[26:47] Speaker 1: that I personally never would have thought about that. But
[26:50] Speaker 1: some big motherfucker to wrap him up. You know what
[26:52] Speaker 1: I'm saying? If things get a little wild, somebody like,
[26:54] Speaker 1: you know, because Sherrod Moore ain't small. He played offensive line.
[26:57] Speaker 1: You know what I'm saying? They got to be somebody
[26:59] Speaker 1: with a strength coach at ain't no way in the world.
[27:01] Speaker 1: I would have done that by myself. No, sir. Could
[27:05] Speaker 1: not have been. Anyway, Ward Manuel chose to do that.
[27:08] Speaker 1: And then that man ran out of there, ran up
[27:09] Speaker 1: in that little white girl's house with a knife. You're
[27:12] Speaker 1: not you're not keeping your job after this. I just
[27:18] Speaker 1: want to know this. Ryan, what was that? The Wall
[27:22] Speaker 1: Street Journal? Were you sending that link with the article?
[27:24] Speaker 2: Yeah, the 24 hours.
[27:26] Speaker 1: Yeah. And I just want you to hear with me,
[27:28] Speaker 1: because I don't think I'm going to get this wrong,
[27:30] Speaker 1: but just to make sure I say to get this right,
[27:32] Speaker 1: this is a very important detail. They had done in previous...
[27:35] Speaker 1: This is not the only investigation, by the way, that
[27:37] Speaker 1: they have done of Jerome Moore and his dealings with
[27:42] Speaker 1: women in the office, on campus, or whatever it is.
[27:45] Speaker 3: But....
[27:47] Speaker 1: They had done an investigation about his relationship with this
[27:49] Speaker 1: particular woman. And they had been in a relationship from
[27:52] Speaker 1: 2022 to 2024. And they didn't find any evidence. And
[27:59] Speaker 1: the biggest reason they didn't have evidence is because she
[28:01] Speaker 1: said no and he said no. And I don't know
[28:04] Speaker 1: exactly what powers they have. They can ask people to
[28:07] Speaker 1: turn over phones. I'm sure the company issued phones they
[28:10] Speaker 1: can or whatever. But I don't know exactly what they
[28:12] Speaker 1: could do. But they said their investigation said that there
[28:15] Speaker 1: was nothing to it. And then, out the blue this week,
[28:21] Speaker 1: this woman calls up and decides to confess her sins.
[28:25] Speaker 1: That's what the article in the Wall Street Journal said, right?
[28:29] Speaker 1: Am I expected to believe that she just decided to
[28:33] Speaker 1: do this out of nowhere? I'm not saying that it
[28:36] Speaker 1: changes anything about the outcome, right? Or what there is
[28:40] Speaker 1: to say about more. What I am saying is, I
[28:44] Speaker 1: would like to know why that decision was made. Because
[28:51] Speaker 1: what's that line, Ryan? Just because you paranoid don't mean
[28:54] Speaker 1: they ain't out to get you. Because they got, he
[29:00] Speaker 1: is got.
[29:01] Speaker 2: Right.
[29:03] Speaker 1: He is as got as got has ever been. That
[29:08] Speaker 1: just seems to be an incredible turn of events. Like
[29:10] Speaker 1: who knows what it is that happened. In the 911 call,
[29:14] Speaker 1: the woman said that Moore had been stalking her right
[29:18] Speaker 1: that is what what she said in the call um
[29:23] Speaker 1: maybe that if that's the case right maybe that led
[29:26] Speaker 1: to her calling and saying hey do this thing that'll
[29:30] Speaker 1: fire that dude I don't I don't know I don't
[29:32] Speaker 1: understand this but the fact that this just happened out
[29:34] Speaker 1: of nowhere something tells me we're going to find out
[29:38] Speaker 1: a lot did you see they're going to do an
[29:39] Speaker 1: investigation on of the whole... Yeah, everyone's getting.
[29:42] Speaker 2: It's going to be... I think it's going to be
[29:44] Speaker 2: more than just the AD.
[29:46] Speaker 1: I think it'll be more than just the AD, but
[29:49] Speaker 1: how thorough an investigation do you really think that this
[29:53] Speaker 1: is going to be?
[29:54] Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean... Let's put it this way. They've been
[29:58] Speaker 2: doing a lot of investigations in that building recently. Yeah.
[30:00] Speaker 1: So this is one thing, though, I think about with Michigan, though.
[30:02] Speaker 1: And I'm curious your thoughts on this. So I've seen
[30:07] Speaker 1: the this is a, like, deeply corrupt program sort of arguments.
[30:14] Speaker 1: And I get that. But, right? I feel like these
[30:20] Speaker 1: things don't have that much to do with one another.
[30:23] Speaker 2: Right.
[30:24] Speaker 1: So one thing that was interesting with Connor Stallion, the
[30:27] Speaker 1: reason that Moore got suspended behind that is that he
[30:29] Speaker 1: deleted text messages before he turned his phone over, but
[30:32] Speaker 1: then he came off of those text messages and there
[30:35] Speaker 1: was nothing incriminating in them.
[30:38] Speaker 3: Right.
[30:38] Speaker 1: They had that weird thing with the dude that was
[30:40] Speaker 1: stealing signs, and I'm sorry, it was wrong, but it's
[30:43] Speaker 1: so funny that I can't find myself getting to that place.
[30:47] Speaker 1: This right here, I don't know how exactly this ties
[30:51] Speaker 1: in with the idea of a corrupt program right like
[30:54] Speaker 1: this is weird things happen in offices like i don't
[30:58] Speaker 1: yes so i guess this is what i don't know
[31:01] Speaker 1: how many offices have a circumstance like this and what
[31:05] Speaker 1: is the likelihood under those circumstances that somebody tells or
[31:08] Speaker 1: that something is actually done somebody in a boss-like capacity
[31:12] Speaker 1: is having a relationship with a subordinate i feel like
[31:16] Speaker 1: it's more likely that people let that slide than it
[31:20] Speaker 1: is that people enforce it. That's not to say that
[31:21] Speaker 1: they shouldn't.
[31:22] Speaker 2: But that's what, yes.
[31:25] Speaker 1: Yeah, so I don't find that to be an example
[31:27] Speaker 1: of a uniquely corrupt culture. within your within the athletic department.
[31:33] Speaker 1: You know what I mean? Like, I'm not sure that
[31:35] Speaker 1: that's the argument to make here, but that's what it's
[31:38] Speaker 1: going to be.
[31:39] Speaker 2: Right.
[31:40] Speaker 1: That's what they're going to have to overcome. And maybe
[31:43] Speaker 1: Michigan is trying to do a truth and reconciliation before
[31:46] Speaker 1: the public. And they're going to go through all this
[31:48] Speaker 1: shit and they're going to tell everybody everything that was wrong.
[31:53] Speaker 1: But I didn't think that they were stupid. Right. Call
[32:00] Speaker 1: me cynical, but that doesn't seem like the smartest thing
[32:02] Speaker 1: to like, these are not people of great honor. Okay.
[32:05] Speaker 1: So I don't know what investigation is going to be.
[32:07] Speaker 1: I don't know what they're actually going to do. You
[32:09] Speaker 1: remember when the dolphins had the bullying situation and they
[32:11] Speaker 1: put together the blue ribbon committee and that committee still
[32:14] Speaker 1: ain't never had no meeting.
[32:15] Speaker 2: Yeah.
[32:16] Speaker 1: Like not one. Like, but they can't just win the
[32:19] Speaker 1: press conference here. Like that's not going to work. I
[32:21] Speaker 1: do think that now that they've said it, they're going
[32:23] Speaker 1: to have to come up with something. But consultants generally
[32:28] Speaker 1: are people you pay to tell you to do what
[32:30] Speaker 1: you already wanted to do. This, no matter who the
[32:35] Speaker 1: investigation is, this is an example of the consulting business.
[32:38] Speaker 1: That's what they are going to have. They're going to
[32:41] Speaker 1: run through this and they're going to come back and
[32:44] Speaker 1: be like, you know what? It's actually not as bad
[32:45] Speaker 1: as we thought. It's crazy, right? Like, yeah, yeah, yeah.
[32:48] Speaker 1: You know, but we wanted to go back here and
[32:50] Speaker 1: make sure everything was okay. Yeah, yeah. We're going to
[32:53] Speaker 1: be fine.
[32:54] Speaker 3: Yeah.
[32:55] Speaker 1: Like, It's actually funny, Ryan. As we talked about this more,
[32:59] Speaker 1: I had in my head envisioned, because I don't do
[33:03] Speaker 1: it like I did it when I was a youngster
[33:05] Speaker 1: in this business, but I like a little dark humor.
[33:09] Speaker 1: I feel like I have a fairly sophisticated understanding of
[33:12] Speaker 1: the edge and where you can stand and talk on
[33:15] Speaker 1: these things. I will say that this case has tested
[33:23] Speaker 1: at many points. My question of Is this funny? Not
[33:30] Speaker 1: so much the macro. The big, is this funny? Because
[33:33] Speaker 1: that actually is not. But there's little funnies along, little
[33:38] Speaker 1: potential funnies, I think, that I had seen along the way.
[33:41] Speaker 1: And in my edgy brain, I was like, yeah, I'm
[33:43] Speaker 1: going to get in here. Maybe we going. No, I
[33:45] Speaker 1: started feeling less and less funny. The more I thought
[33:48] Speaker 1: about him sitting there in that rubber room.
[33:51] Speaker 3: Yeah. Right?
[33:52] Speaker 1: I was like, oh, this isn't. This, no, no, no.
[33:54] Speaker 1: This isn't.
[33:55] Speaker 5: No.
[33:56] Speaker 1: No, it's not.
[33:57] Speaker 2: Like, this is.
[33:59] Speaker 1: Can you imagine if this were a story about a
[34:01] Speaker 1: coach that we were more familiar with?
[34:03] Speaker 2: No. This was A1A1 from Wednesday, like, really until that
[34:11] Speaker 2: home story is ACL.
[34:12] Speaker 1: Yeah, but imagine if this was, and I'm just throwing
[34:16] Speaker 1: a name out, right? Imagine if this was Jimbo Fisher.
[34:20] Speaker 3: Right?
[34:20] Speaker 1: Like, I'm not even talking about Nick Saban, right? I'm
[34:22] Speaker 1: not even talking about, like, Dabo or, like, a super
[34:25] Speaker 1: famous coach or Kirby Smart. Just somebody that, oh, I
[34:29] Speaker 1: remember him, right?
[34:30] Speaker 2: Right.
[34:31] Speaker 1: Imagine it's Jimbo Fisher that did this.
[34:36] Speaker 3: What?
[34:38] Speaker 1: Like, we don't even know who this guy is, and
[34:41] Speaker 1: he has America captivated.
[34:43] Speaker 2: Right.
[34:44] Speaker 5: Right?
[34:45] Speaker 1: Like, actually, who is the coach that you would be
[34:49] Speaker 1: the most shocked?
[34:52] Speaker 2: Kirby's up there. Kirby's up there. Did you see the
[34:58] Speaker 2: Nick Saban quote going around?
[35:00] Speaker 1: I did not. What was it?
[35:02] Speaker 2: Let me pull this up. I want to make sure
[35:03] Speaker 2: I get this right. It's about, you know, Nick Saban's.
[35:08] Speaker 1: Oh, from the book?
[35:09] Speaker 2: From the book.
[35:10] Speaker 1: Oh, I do know that quote. If you can send
[35:14] Speaker 1: the screen cap to me, I will read it word
[35:17] Speaker 1: for word because this story has been denied. And, um,
[35:22] Speaker 1: so what?
[35:24] Speaker 3: Yeah.
[35:24] Speaker 2: So what? It's funny.
[35:25] Speaker 3: Yeah.
[35:25] Speaker 1: We, we like it better. And he's basically, he's in
[35:28] Speaker 1: the locker room with the dudes at LSU. And honestly, man,
[35:31] Speaker 1: this is the kind of story that like this, this like,
[35:34] Speaker 1: maybe this is a man that you let raise your son,
[35:36] Speaker 1: you know, help your son become a man. Like he,
[35:38] Speaker 1: he hitting them with some true gang.
[35:40] Speaker 2: Right.
[35:40] Speaker 1: And he was talking about dealing with women and, you know,
[35:43] Speaker 1: these young boys in college. And I do remember that
[35:46] Speaker 1: before this excerpt, there's something where he's like, he's, He's
[35:49] Speaker 1: using like the P word in his discussion of like
[35:52] Speaker 1: talking about dealing with women. He's just, you know, he
[35:56] Speaker 1: hitting them with some true game. And he says here
[35:58] Speaker 1: that ultimately you never want to sleep with anybody who
[36:01] Speaker 1: has less to lose than you do. So ultimately, if
[36:05] Speaker 1: I'm ever going to sleep around on Miss Terry, it's
[36:08] Speaker 1: going to be with Hillary fucking Rodham Clinton.
[36:13] Speaker 2: Now that's funny.
[36:15] Speaker 1: That's hilarious. That's, that's, That's because somebody put together an
[36:19] Speaker 1: AI video of Nick Saban telling that to Sherrod... Sherone Moore. Sorry, sorry.
[36:26] Speaker 1: I was about to call him Senator Moore. It's the
[36:34] Speaker 1: holiday season, and it's time to make dreams come true.
[36:37] Speaker 1: To make these holiday favorites, it takes a team of
[36:40] Speaker 1: talented people, from actors to editors to props people to
[36:43] Speaker 1: sound crew and more. And when it comes to building
[36:45] Speaker 1: such a team, whether it's for the entertainment industry or

[37:34] Speaker 2: All right, Bo, let's get to some more stories from
[37:42] Speaker 2: the weekend. Phillip Rivers actually played. They almost beat the Seahawks.
[37:47] Speaker 2: He was 8 for 27, 120 yards, touchdown, and an interception.
[37:52] Speaker 2: But what was your biggest takeaway from seeing the 44-year-old
[37:56] Speaker 2: returning to the NFL?
[37:56] Speaker 1: All right, man. As long as he didn't die. All right?
[38:01] Speaker 1: But I watched a couple drives, and he is a
[38:04] Speaker 1: Larry Holmes all-star, man. Like, he's looking flabby as sick.
[38:09] Speaker 1: So the thing about, I feel like the guy that
[38:11] Speaker 1: comes back at this age is typically either going to be, like,
[38:16] Speaker 1: in your mind. Or like when you do the movie.
[38:19] Speaker 1: Like a Kenny Stabler type that you imagine who's just
[38:22] Speaker 1: been smoking cigarettes and drinking Miller High Life, right? And
[38:26] Speaker 1: then they call him and he's like, all right, you know,
[38:27] Speaker 1: I'll come out here and play a game like smoking
[38:29] Speaker 1: a cigarette on the sideline. Or something like Jack LaLanne type. Right.
[38:33] Speaker 1: That's just like, you know, an incredible shape. It always
[38:36] Speaker 1: ready for it. Dead ass in the middle is Phillip Rivers.
[38:39] Speaker 1: It looked like he ain't never done a push up
[38:41] Speaker 1: in his life. Right. Like I work out for playing
[38:43] Speaker 1: football by playing football. He always had that funny shot
[38:46] Speaker 1: put motion and everything else. But he was always a
[38:49] Speaker 1: highly entertaining watch. Right. He talked cash shit out there
[38:54] Speaker 1: to people, and he got it done, man. You know,
[38:57] Speaker 1: only invariably for the Chargers to blow a late lead,
[39:01] Speaker 1: and all his efforts were for naught. And what do
[39:04] Speaker 1: you know? All he did today was a far less
[39:07] Speaker 1: entertaining version of that right there, because it was not
[39:12] Speaker 1: a fun watch. It wasn't a sad watch. It was
[39:16] Speaker 1: really insulting to Riley Leonard. I think that's the best
[39:20] Speaker 1: way that I could put it. It was just kind
[39:22] Speaker 1: of confusing why he was even out there. That's probably
[39:26] Speaker 1: the best way that I could put it. It was
[39:28] Speaker 1: just confusing. But he had this... ahead at the end,
[39:31] Speaker 1: only for them to give up a field goal and
[39:34] Speaker 1: to lose the game.
[39:36] Speaker 3: It is.
[39:38] Speaker 1: Are we at the point where we ask some questions
[39:40] Speaker 1: about the Seahawks? Cause this game should not have been
[39:42] Speaker 1: this close.
[39:44] Speaker 3: It is.
[39:45] Speaker 2: I cannot i could not take my eyes off of
[39:48] Speaker 2: it i i with all due respect i just disagree
[39:52] Speaker 2: i thought really it was strangely compelling i understand like
[39:59] Speaker 2: if the idea of like secondhand embarrassment like not being
[40:02] Speaker 2: able to watch but it looked like a mix of
[40:05] Speaker 2: like like someone like, you know, like a backyard football game, right?
[40:10] Speaker 2: Telling stories about how they were all 20 years.
[40:14] Speaker 7: I just couldn't get anything out of it. Cause the
[40:16] Speaker 7: balls was taking so long to get there. He was
[40:18] Speaker 7: throwing the lollipops over there, Jack. Like it was just,
[40:21] Speaker 7: and they weren't like snatching them and running them back. Like,
[40:24] Speaker 7: I think that was the thing is like, if he
[40:26] Speaker 7: was going to be bad, I needed to be all
[40:27] Speaker 7: the way bad.
[40:28] Speaker 1: Like he needed to be on some Peter man. He
[40:31] Speaker 1: ain't give us none of that. It was just kind of,
[40:33] Speaker 1: it was nondescript. rip it was he might be back
[40:37] Speaker 1: out there he got that's what i'm saying riley letter
[40:41] Speaker 1: nope don't want to make that joke riley but riley
[40:43] Speaker 1: letter should be very upset if they were to to
[40:47] Speaker 1: to do that um i just i was surprised to
[40:52] Speaker 1: see people my age who were saying how they were
[40:56] Speaker 1: like root I guess I don't view myself the same
[40:59] Speaker 1: way that these other middle-aged people view themselves. Right.
[41:02] Speaker 4: Like, Oh, I did not find it inspirational. I found
[41:06] Speaker 4: it very, very funny. I did not find this inspiring
[41:08] Speaker 4: at all. I was not rooting for him. I thought
[41:11] Speaker 4: this is stupid.
[41:13] Speaker 2: And I'm just, I.
[41:14] Speaker 1: Was, I turned in to Adrian from the Rocky movies.
[41:18] Speaker 1: Like you can't win.
[41:19] Speaker 3: Yeah.
[41:20] Speaker 1: I'm just hoping he doesn't get turned to dust.
[41:23] Speaker 2: Oh man. That's great. All right. Uh, In not-so-great football news,
[41:27] Speaker 2: the Rams beat America's team 41-34 in a shootout we
[41:30] Speaker 2: mentioned earlier. Devontae Adams went down with a hamstring injury.
[41:33] Speaker 2: Puka Dekua left with an injury. Bo, your thoughts watching
[41:38] Speaker 2: this game?
[41:38] Speaker 1: Yeah, man. Dropping like flies. Like, I actually, it was
[41:41] Speaker 1: a game that reminded me why I chose this as
[41:44] Speaker 1: the team to rule for. Even with them not winning.
[41:46] Speaker 1: They go, man. Like, they're down so many dudes already
[41:50] Speaker 1: going into this game, right? Down both safeties. I think
[41:52] Speaker 1: this is the most recent development. And that was just
[41:55] Speaker 1: a at least for the first three quarters. It wasn't
[41:57] Speaker 1: as great at the end. This was an incredible game
[42:00] Speaker 1: to watch. It was highly entertaining. Jared Goff played really,
[42:04] Speaker 1: really well. But, you know, looks like the Lions are
[42:09] Speaker 1: not going to make playoffs this year. And you know what?
[42:14] Speaker 1: Like I said, it's cool. Me and Nick, I'm going
[42:16] Speaker 1: to go to his house during the playoffs and we're
[42:18] Speaker 1: just going to be over there hating. we're just gonna
[42:21] Speaker 1: be hating for a muff that's all we're gonna be
[42:24] Speaker 1: doing right but hey man it's dropping like fly season
[42:27] Speaker 1: like i mean you just look around everywhere you go
[42:30] Speaker 1: man everybody's dropping like flies there's gonna be a lot
[42:33] Speaker 1: of this is just who can hang who can persevere
[42:37] Speaker 1: but that's where we are.
[42:39] Speaker 2: All right uh going to college football now kalen the
[42:42] Speaker 2: boar says he is not leaving alabama he said in
[42:44] Speaker 2: the statement uh We have an incredible opportunity in front
[42:47] Speaker 2: of us, so my sole focus is on Alabama football
[42:49] Speaker 2: and our preparations to play Oklahoma. I have not spoken,
[42:53] Speaker 2: have no interest in speaking with anyone else about any
[42:57] Speaker 2: other job. I'm fully committed to this program and look
[42:59] Speaker 2: forward to continuing as the head coach of the University
[43:02] Speaker 2: of Alabama. Beau, were you surprised?
[43:04] Speaker 1: I thought that that was a very strong, strident, while
[43:10] Speaker 1: simultaneously challenging, Legally non-binding statement.
[43:14] Speaker 2: Sounds like he's negotiating for an extension.
[43:16] Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah. Those reports are coming out about it. I
[43:21] Speaker 1: just want to see how he feels after this game
[43:24] Speaker 1: against Oklahoma.
[43:25] Speaker 2: Same.
[43:25] Speaker 5: Right?
[43:26] Speaker 1: Which could go either way. It's going to be blazing
[43:29] Speaker 1: hot for you if you don't. Now, I will say
[43:31] Speaker 1: this also. Something that I think is interesting about the
[43:34] Speaker 1: playoff that isn't quite discussed. Because I've seen people make
[43:36] Speaker 1: the argument. Because Alabama lost four games last year, I
[43:39] Speaker 1: want to say, and they have lost three games so
[43:41] Speaker 1: far this year. That means in all likelihood they're going
[43:43] Speaker 1: to lose four games this year.
[43:45] Speaker 2: Almost certainly, yes.
[43:48] Speaker 1: One thing this playoff does is add to the number
[43:51] Speaker 1: of good teams assured to end their season with a loss.
[43:58] Speaker 1: And nothing makes your season feel worse than ending it
[44:03] Speaker 1: with a loss.
[44:04] Speaker 5: Right?
[44:05] Speaker 1: That's a thing. And that's kind of what's happening here.
[44:08] Speaker 1: Like if they were just going to the Capital One
[44:10] Speaker 1: Bowl and got to score up against Wisconsin. Well, not
[44:13] Speaker 1: Wisconsin this year, but, you know, somebody like that and
[44:16] Speaker 1: come out of there with a dub. I think this
[44:18] Speaker 1: might have gone over a little different. He better win
[44:20] Speaker 1: this game against Oklahoma, basically, is the thing that I'm
[44:22] Speaker 1: saying right now.
[44:23] Speaker 3: Right.
[44:23] Speaker 1: Again, the monster has not been revved back up. But
[44:27] Speaker 1: we looked at that contract, right? It's like 70 something
[44:29] Speaker 1: million dollars to buy him out. It's like three if
[44:31] Speaker 1: he leaves.
[44:33] Speaker 2: So it's something impossible.
[44:34] Speaker 3: Yeah.
[44:35] Speaker 1: Like if he leaves on his own, it's something like
[44:37] Speaker 1: $ 4 million. Like I, and I respect Alabama on that front. Like,
[44:41] Speaker 1: like we ain't going to keep you here except here.
[44:43] Speaker 1: They are apparently negotiating this extension. Cause they know that job. They,
[44:48] Speaker 1: they know they got a crazy job. And if I'm DeBoer,
[44:52] Speaker 1: I guess the problem right now at Michigan is that
[44:54] Speaker 1: they in the midst of chaos, but I would definitely
[44:56] Speaker 1: listen to what they had to say.
[45:00] Speaker 2: Absolutely. All right. And moving to the NBA, uh, semifinals
[45:03] Speaker 2: of the NBA Cup. The Spurs upset the Oklahoma City Thunder.
[45:07] Speaker 2: Wimbyama made his return to action. He had some words
[45:11] Speaker 2: for SGA after the game. Let's take a listen. I'm
[45:14] Speaker 2: just glad to be part of something that's growing to
[45:18] Speaker 2: be so beautiful and so pure and ethical basketball, you know?
[45:28] Speaker 1: Okay. Did you watch this game?
[45:30] Speaker 2: I saw clips. I did not see the game.
[45:32] Speaker 1: Okay, me and my brother watched this game. Victor Wimbanyama
[45:36] Speaker 1: played seven minutes in the first half. His plus minus
[45:41] Speaker 1: was plus 20. It was unreal watching the one-man impact
[45:49] Speaker 1: that he had on this game.
[45:50] Speaker 2: Against the overwhelmingly best team in the NBA.
[45:53] Speaker 1: Overwhelmingly best team in the NBA. He hates them.
[45:58] Speaker 2: Okay. He hates them and he hates Chet.
[46:00] Speaker 1: He hates Chet, number one, right? Like Chet's missing free throws.
[46:03] Speaker 1: He's clapping at the, you know, he hates them. But
[46:07] Speaker 1: that clip right there about ethical basketball, that's him talking
[46:10] Speaker 1: about the Thunder and how the Thunder be cheating, right?
[46:13] Speaker 1: Now the Thunder have a very interesting approach when playing
[46:15] Speaker 1: against him, which is he's seven feet five and they
[46:17] Speaker 1: just try to take his rock every time he dribbles.
[46:20] Speaker 2: Right.
[46:20] Speaker 1: As soon as he dribbles, Caruso's going for it. I
[46:23] Speaker 1: would not be surprised to find out that the Thunder
[46:25] Speaker 1: practice the peanut punch in practice because they just they're
[46:28] Speaker 1: just going for the ball. They go for the ball
[46:30] Speaker 1: like you do when you're too young to be playing
[46:33] Speaker 1: basketball against the age level of people that's out there.
[46:35] Speaker 1: And that's the only hope you have is to try
[46:36] Speaker 1: to take the ball like that's what they're doing. But
[46:40] Speaker 1: he doesn't like them. And it's so great because with him,
[46:47] Speaker 1: maybe they could challenge the Thunder. The Thunder, I think,
[46:50] Speaker 1: are going to win 70 games this year. There's a
[46:52] Speaker 1: good chance they could break the wins record. There are
[46:55] Speaker 1: teams that could challenge them. Denver, I think, can give
[46:57] Speaker 1: them a challenge. We're going to see what Houston ultimately is.
[47:00] Speaker 1: But this one right here is the rivalry, right? And
[47:03] Speaker 1: what they did, and I'd say this also about Knicks magic,
[47:05] Speaker 1: but it's very important, that NBA Cup felt like something.
[47:09] Speaker 1: Like in watching that game, it felt like a big game.
[47:13] Speaker 1: I don't know if that's tied to the event or
[47:16] Speaker 1: is simply tied to the way that these teams feel
[47:18] Speaker 1: about each other. But these teams feel a way about
[47:21] Speaker 1: each other. And it starts with the fact, I was
[47:23] Speaker 1: talking to my man Jason about this. He made a
[47:25] Speaker 1: great point. He was like, can you imagine how unserious
[47:29] Speaker 1: Victor believes that Chet is?
[47:31] Speaker 2: I can only imagine.
[47:33] Speaker 1: Right? Like, Chet out here on his B-rad. Victor goes
[47:39] Speaker 1: to hang out with the Shaolin monks. And y'all tried
[47:43] Speaker 1: to say he was better than me? Oh, my goodness.
[47:47] Speaker 1: It's going to be like just for a long time
[47:49] Speaker 1: with these teams. I love it.
[47:57] Speaker 2: All right, Bo. Voicemails. A lot of good ones. Here's
[48:00] Speaker 2: our first.
[48:01] Speaker 3: Hey, Bo.
[48:02] Speaker 6: This is Tony from Las Vegas.
[48:04] Speaker 2: Long time listener.
[48:05] Speaker 6: First time caller.
[48:06] Speaker 3: I know what you do.
[48:06] Speaker 6: So I've been listening to you guys long enough to
[48:10] Speaker 6: know the original story of Lawrence Fishburne.
[48:12] Speaker 3: So.
[48:13] Speaker 6: leads me to a question because it kind of reminds
[48:15] Speaker 6: me of your disdain you have for Lane Kiffin. So
[48:18] Speaker 6: the question I have is, who do you like, who
[48:21] Speaker 6: do you dislike more? Lawrence Fishburne, Lane Kiffin, Stringer Bell,
[48:29] Speaker 6: or the New Orleans Saints? Thanks for your time, bro.
[48:32] Speaker 2: Keep doing what you're doing.
[48:37] Speaker 1: You know, the best part about Stringer Bell not being
[48:39] Speaker 1: a real person is I don't have to respect his humanity.
[48:42] Speaker 1: That allows me to lean all the way in. I'm like,
[48:46] Speaker 1: you know what, though? Once you put Lane Kiffin in this,
[48:48] Speaker 1: it's a little bit of a tougher call. My issue
[48:51] Speaker 1: with Lawrence Fishburne, I don't know if he a bad person, necessarily.
[48:55] Speaker 1: I just felt like, for those of you who don't know,
[48:57] Speaker 1: I was working at Press Junket once in the year
[49:00] Speaker 1: of our Lord, 2003, at the, I believe it was
[49:04] Speaker 1: the Beverly Wilshire Hotel. And the way Press Junket works is,
[49:09] Speaker 1: they do it two different ways. Oh, no, it's Anyway,
[49:13] Speaker 1: you put a bunch of reporters in one room or
[49:15] Speaker 1: at one table, like six or seven. It's like for
[49:18] Speaker 1: a movie cast, you rotate the cast around to the
[49:20] Speaker 1: table so it's like a bunch of mini press conferences
[49:23] Speaker 1: and this allows you to you know get more work
[49:25] Speaker 1: done going around the room and so i was there
[49:28] Speaker 1: to do an interview with somebody else And they sat
[49:31] Speaker 1: Lawrence Fishburne down at the table. And so I wasn't
[49:33] Speaker 1: really paying no attention to him. And he tried to
[49:35] Speaker 1: call me out and make me ask him a question.
[49:37] Speaker 1: And I did. And it was a good question, too.
[49:39] Speaker 1: I don't remember what it was. And that jerk was just.
[49:41] Speaker 2: Like, no.
[49:43] Speaker 1: And just tried to play me in front of all
[49:44] Speaker 1: these people. It was white people, too. Like, I just
[49:46] Speaker 1: didn't really believe that that was appropriate behavior coming from him. But,
[49:50] Speaker 1: you know, the world got him back.
[49:57] Speaker 3: Right?
[49:57] Speaker 1: But that was just one day. You know what I mean? Like, that's,
[50:00] Speaker 1: you know, I can't say that I don't approve of
[50:03] Speaker 1: what he stands for. Like, I don't approve of what
[50:05] Speaker 1: Stringer Bell stands for or what Lane... Stringer Bell is
[50:09] Speaker 1: the answer. Stringer... I feel like Lane Kiffin and Stringer
[50:17] Speaker 1: Bell got a lot in common, though.
[50:22] Speaker 2: It's going to be an interesting year. All right, here's
[50:23] Speaker 2: our next one. What's up, Omani?
[50:25] Speaker 3: This is Cordae from the Bay. Uh....
[50:29] Speaker 5: It's a follow-up to the voicemail you played.
[50:32] Speaker 3: No, I'm not adopted.
[50:34] Speaker 5: This was my grandpa's idea. I know you from Houston, Texas.
[50:38] Speaker 5: My grandpa's from Dallas, Texas. I don't know if that
[50:42] Speaker 5: got anything to do with it, but also my grandpa
[50:44] Speaker 5: looks like James Brown except he's 6'2 and a truck driver. Yeah.
[50:49] Speaker 1: You got a perm?
[50:52] Speaker 5: So after we– so it was his idea to all
[50:55] Speaker 5: of a sudden start going– to Yosemite, and we hadn't
[50:58] Speaker 5: went in years. So we decided, oh, let's go when
[51:02] Speaker 5: y'all all are 18. And that's when we missed the bear,
[51:07] Speaker 5: stuff like that. That was the last time my family went,
[51:10] Speaker 5: because my mom was like, I ain't dealing with this
[51:12] Speaker 5: stress again. But my dumb self, my dumb self, went
[51:18] Speaker 5: the next year with some non-black people and woke up
[51:24] Speaker 5: one morning to the sound of bear. Again, but I
[51:28] Speaker 5: was in my tent, and I was with some non-black people,
[51:33] Speaker 5: and they was like, Bear, let's get out. I was like, no, wait.
[51:37] Speaker 5: Waited like two minutes. I was like, no, let's wait again.
[51:40] Speaker 5: I was like, let's just wait. Precautionary. Then we eventually
[51:45] Speaker 5: got out of our tent, and when we got out
[51:47] Speaker 5: of our tent, someone yelled, hey, good thing y'all didn't
[51:52] Speaker 5: get out of y'all's tent, because the bear was right
[51:54] Speaker 5: in front of y'all's tent. And that was the last
[51:58] Speaker 5: time I went to Yosemite.
[51:59] Speaker 2: That's Cordae from the Bay.
[52:02] Speaker 5: Yeah.
[52:03] Speaker 1: So those of you Cordae from the Bay last week
[52:05] Speaker 1: told us a story about how he was fortunate. He
[52:07] Speaker 1: went to take a walk, shall we say, and while
[52:10] Speaker 1: he was gone, the bear had come and they was
[52:11] Speaker 1: at Yosemite. And I was trying to figure out what
[52:13] Speaker 1: was going on with these black people at Yosemite. And
[52:15] Speaker 1: he gave the answer. And then he just said that
[52:17] Speaker 1: he went with some non-black people to Yosemite. And he said,
[52:19] Speaker 1: what happened? And, um, I will just tell you, tying
[52:23] Speaker 1: back to the conversation we were having a little bit earlier, um,
[52:27] Speaker 1: if my spotty senses are correct, and he's talking about
[52:29] Speaker 1: he was out there in the woods with these non-white people,
[52:32] Speaker 1: if the bear had ate him, they'd have put him
[52:34] Speaker 1: in one of them memes that I've been seeing going
[52:37] Speaker 1: around with Sherrod Moore. Who else? They put Mel Tucker
[52:42] Speaker 1: in the picture.
[52:43] Speaker 3: Who else?
[52:44] Speaker 1: Who else they have in there? But if you had
[52:46] Speaker 1: got ate by a bear because you was in the
[52:49] Speaker 1: woods with some non-white people, I get the feeling you'd
[52:53] Speaker 1: have been on the same list.
[52:56] Speaker 2: All right, here's our last one.
[53:00] Speaker 3: Hey, Bo, first time, long time from the wild to
[53:03] Speaker 3: northern Michigan. I met my wife in the wilderness of
[53:09] Speaker 3: northern New Mexico at the World's Largest View Camp in Cimarron,
[53:12] Speaker 3: New Mexico. And so I was not walking with my cousins,
[53:16] Speaker 3: but I was walking with my future wife into the woods.
[53:20] Speaker 3: And we were doing things that young people do when
[53:23] Speaker 3: they get away from, you know, Nature taking its course. And,
[53:29] Speaker 3: you know, bears are known for two things. One is,
[53:34] Speaker 3: you know, terrible eyesight and an excellent sense of smell.
[53:40] Speaker 3: So I can just imagine what this bear saw on
[53:45] Speaker 3: the ground, writhing and also smelling, probably something like it.
[53:51] Speaker 3: And I looked up and I saw this big old bull,
[53:54] Speaker 3: the bear. come walking up towards us. And I got
[53:58] Speaker 3: right up, had to protect my lady, threw my overalls on,
[54:02] Speaker 3: and I started yelling and screaming, and, hey, bear, get
[54:05] Speaker 3: out of here, as is the custom when you see
[54:07] Speaker 3: a bear such as that in your area. And I'm
[54:10] Speaker 3: waving my hands, and that old boy just kind of
[54:13] Speaker 3: stopped and made a different direction. He did not change pace.
[54:18] Speaker 3: He was not scared. He didn't care about me at all,
[54:22] Speaker 3: but he knew that that he needed to just keep walking.
[54:28] Speaker 3: And I was a lucky man that day, that's for sure.
[54:31] Speaker 3: Thank you.
[54:33] Speaker 1: Ryan, the last thing I expected was that voice, and
[54:37] Speaker 1: everything kept getting even more and more unexpected. It built
[54:41] Speaker 1: to such an amazing crescendo of defying expectations.
[54:46] Speaker 2: He just threw in, went to the world's largest youth
[54:49] Speaker 2: camp as an aside.
[54:51] Speaker 8: Yes, yes, yes, he did, he did. And also, I
[54:56] Speaker 8: don't think he knows what kind of walk. Hey, shout out.
[55:02] Speaker 1: To you, Big Dog.
[55:04] Speaker 2: He was having a great time.
[55:06] Speaker 1: You was making it happen. But shout out to you
[55:09] Speaker 1: also for throwing all your overalls. That wouldn't have been.
[55:13] Speaker 2: He's at extremely northern Michigan. I'm assuming that means the
[55:16] Speaker 2: upper peninsula. And I don't know if you know about
[55:18] Speaker 2: that place.
[55:19] Speaker 1: Oh, yeah, yeah, I look. That is one of those
[55:22] Speaker 1: I need to look up, like how that works.
[55:26] Speaker 2: Yeah.
[55:27] Speaker 1: But wow, that was an amazing story. I appreciate that, man. Hey,
