Bomani Jones breaks down a wild NFL Sunday, starting with Jalen Hurts and the Philadelphia Eagles after another frustrating offensive performance. Bo explains why Hurts can execute when everything around him is working, but questions whether he can elevate the Eagles when injuries and mistakes force the quarterback to overcome adversity. Download the PrizePicks app today and use code BOMANI to get $150 instantly in Lineups if you win your first $5 Lineup! https://prizepicks.onelink.me/LME0/BOMANI Then, Bomani turns to Josh Allen after the Buffalo Bills’ loss to the New England Patriots. Meanwhile, Drake Maye and the Patriots pick up a potentially season-saving win. Also, Patrick Mahomes looks like Patrick Mahomes again as the Kansas City Chiefs survive the Las Vegas Raiders, while Bomani explains why the Raiders may be better than their record suggests. Plus, Bo discusses Justin Herbert and the Chargers’ protection problems, the undefeated Vikings’ offensive concerns, Lamar Jackson and the Ravens, Bryce Young’s improvement with the Panthers, the struggling Texans, Cam Ward’s bizarre situation with the Titans, and yet another rough day for the New York Jets. Later, Bomani reacts to the growing controversy surrounding Indiana Fever fans and the WNBA, including comments from Fever GM Amber Cox and the league’s handling of fan behavior. He explains why complaints from WNBA players can’t simply be dismissed and why the situation surrounding the Fever could become an even bigger issue next season. Bo also discusses John Gruden’s appearance at a political rally, Vivek Ramaswamy’s awkward viral moment, and the nine albums that have had the biggest impact on his life — featuring Prince, OutKast, A Tribe Called Quest, Public Enemy, Juvenile, Bill Withers, The Wailers, Raekwon and David Bowie. [0:04] Speaker 1: Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the right time presented by PrizePix.
[0:09] Speaker 1: My name is Beaumont E. Jones. Thanks for listening wherever
[0:10] Speaker 1: you get your podcasts. Thanks for watching us on YouTube. Subscribe, like,
[0:15] Speaker 1: rate us, review us, give us five stars. You only
[0:17] Speaker 1: give us four stars. I'm inclined to believe you are
[0:20] Speaker 1: a hater. It is a lot of NFL to talk about.
[0:24] Speaker 1: We'll also get to that one thing I said I
[0:26] Speaker 1: wasn't going to talk about no more, but it got
[0:28] Speaker 1: interesting again. But anyway, Ryan looked at me terrified when
[0:32] Speaker 1: I mentioned that, like you did not know that I
[0:33] Speaker 1: had planned for us to talk about that one thing.
[0:36] Speaker 2: You know, like, That one thing could be lots of things, unfortunately.
[0:39] Speaker 1: You know the one I'm talking about.
[0:40] Speaker 2: I do know the one you're talking about.
[0:42] Speaker 1: But it'll be cool. It'll be cool. You know, like
[0:44] Speaker 1: every now and then I got to change my mind
[0:46] Speaker 1: about something. I'm sure nobody's going to like it. But
[0:48] Speaker 1: you know what? I'm going to do it anyway. Speaking
[0:52] Speaker 1: of nobody liking it, I'm here to talk to you
[0:55] Speaker 1: Rams fans and Eagles fans. You didn't like that, did you?
[1:00] Speaker 1: I mean... The Rams won. You certainly like to win, right?
[1:04] Speaker 1: Nobody wants to lose. Good for you, Rams. You have
[1:07] Speaker 1: to feel better about that. But I just want to
[1:09] Speaker 1: throw out there that three-time Pro Bowl quarterback, Matthew Stafford,
[1:14] Speaker 1: he's doing those Stafford-y things. I don't know. He does
[1:18] Speaker 1: Stafford-y things. When he is on, he is on. And
[1:21] Speaker 1: by the way, he brought it home at the end
[1:23] Speaker 1: in a way that's going to become very relevant to
[1:26] Speaker 1: our discussion a little bit later. But man, he was
[1:28] Speaker 1: out there on some Whiskey Tango Foxtrot. We'll get to
[1:32] Speaker 1: the king of Whiskey Tango Foxtrot, Josh Allen, a little
[1:34] Speaker 1: bit later. But for right now, that was... The interceptions
[1:38] Speaker 1: that he threw in that game were bad. Like, that
[1:41] Speaker 1: was a game that the weather was such that everybody
[1:43] Speaker 1: has an excuse for whatever they want the excuse to be. Because, duh,
[1:48] Speaker 1: you're trying to throw a football in the rain. You're
[1:50] Speaker 1: playing on the road. It's a one o'clock kick. All
[1:53] Speaker 1: of those things. But three-time Pro Bowl quarterback Matthew Stafford
[1:56] Speaker 1: is always going to give you a chance to take one.
[1:59] Speaker 1: He gave them at least two. At least. Right? The
[2:04] Speaker 1: other thing about that game, though, and this is where, Ryan,
[2:07] Speaker 1: I think you'd agree, the Eagles are, I think, a
[2:08] Speaker 1: far more interesting situation coming out of that game. Like Rams,
[2:12] Speaker 1: you got to win. Aaron Donald couldn't play because, you
[2:15] Speaker 1: know what, we just kind of, I don't know if
[2:17] Speaker 1: forgot is the right word, but I guess ignored would
[2:19] Speaker 1: probably be fine. Aaron Donald, oh, dog. I think I
[2:24] Speaker 1: told you the other day I was watching a game
[2:26] Speaker 1: and they referred to Jadeveon Cloudy as the old veteran.
[2:31] Speaker 1: You know, that's same draft class that we're talking about there, right?
[2:35] Speaker 1: Like that's an old guy who hadn't played in a
[2:38] Speaker 1: couple years. Ryan didn't even put him on a plane.
[2:40] Speaker 2: No, didn't even take him to Philly.
[2:43] Speaker 1: No, no, no, no, no. So he's old. Miles Garrett
[2:46] Speaker 1: is not playing. This is just not what anybody thought
[2:48] Speaker 1: it was going to be coming into this season. Puka
[2:51] Speaker 1: back from being hurt, and you know he's going to
[2:53] Speaker 1: get hurt again because he just liked that. You know
[2:55] Speaker 1: what I'm saying? I honestly don't know how he doesn't
[2:57] Speaker 1: have to wear a helmet just walking around on the street.
[3:00] Speaker 1: Just one red or something that y'all scratched up on
[3:02] Speaker 1: the top of it. You know what I mean? Just
[3:05] Speaker 1: on the streets. Just in case he gets the urge
[3:07] Speaker 1: to do some dumb shit. I just don't know why
[3:09] Speaker 1: they don't do that just to play it safe.
[3:11] Speaker 2: You don't think they put him in that helmet when
[3:14] Speaker 2: he goes on those podcasts and says those things that
[3:17] Speaker 2: he likes to say?
[3:18] Speaker 1: Yeah, hey, I'll tell you this, though. He would have
[3:20] Speaker 1: got some help. He would have looked into some things,
[3:23] Speaker 1: so perhaps that will change his outlook.
[3:26] Speaker 2: I hope so.
[3:27] Speaker 1: The Rams really hope so. Right. But the Eagles. Number one,
[3:33] Speaker 1: Ryan and I have talked about this. As far as
[3:36] Speaker 1: I can tell, and we live in a city with
[3:38] Speaker 1: a metro area of what, 20, 25 million people?
[3:41] Speaker 2: Somewhere around there.
[3:42] Speaker 1: There is no more robust economy of Former players, fans,
[3:49] Speaker 1: whatever it is, talking about a team like there is
[3:53] Speaker 1: around the Eagles. Like, they feel like, what if Alabama
[4:00] Speaker 1: was in, like, Philadelphia? Right? Like, it's not quite as...
[4:05] Speaker 1: Their standards aren't as high. Obviously, the Eagles are still
[4:08] Speaker 1: a little bit happier just to be there. But, you know,
[4:12] Speaker 1: as I've learned, like, the internet is a place that
[4:13] Speaker 1: people go to be unhappy. And... I don't feel like
[4:17] Speaker 1: you stay in Philadelphia because you don't like being mad.
[4:21] Speaker 3: Right.
[4:21] Speaker 1: I just feel like this is just what they do.
[4:23] Speaker 2: That is about their cruising altitude all the time.
[4:25] Speaker 1: Yeah, just kind of a steady level of... They seem like...
[4:29] Speaker 1: What's the thing about people? They say about people in
[4:31] Speaker 1: the North that they are not nice, but they are kind.
[4:33] Speaker 1: People in the South are nice, but they are not kind. Like,
[4:36] Speaker 1: they seem to be very kind-hearted people, and if you
[4:38] Speaker 1: needed some help or whatever, they'd come do something for you.
[4:41] Speaker 1: I personally learned a lot about Philly and have nice
[4:44] Speaker 1: things to say about it because in the opening scene
[4:46] Speaker 1: of Rocky, Rocky listened to Summer Madness by cooling the gang. Like,
[4:49] Speaker 1: I'm just saying, I think those people are probably cooler
[4:51] Speaker 1: than they get credit for. But did I send you
[4:53] Speaker 1: that clip of the news broadcast with the fans?
[4:56] Speaker 4: No.
[4:56] Speaker 5: Oh, man.
[4:57] Speaker 1: It was one of them Philly stations. And the news
[5:00] Speaker 1: went to talk after the game, right? And it may
[5:02] Speaker 1: have been the station that the game was on, right?
[5:04] Speaker 1: So they're immediately rolling the Eagles content.
[5:06] Speaker 4: Yeah.
[5:07] Speaker 1: Okay. That woman was on the mic you would have
[5:12] Speaker 1: thought that the federal building had got blowed up. Like,
[5:15] Speaker 1: there was just a level of sadness in her tone,
[5:18] Speaker 1: and then she gets to talking to the people, and
[5:20] Speaker 1: they just can't wait to get on TV and just
[5:22] Speaker 1: talk about how mad and sad they are about what
[5:25] Speaker 1: it is that the Eagles did or did not do
[5:27] Speaker 1: in the course of that game, right? And look, it
[5:30] Speaker 1: comes back to Hurts, and I feel bad for Hurts
[5:33] Speaker 1: in this sense. Hurts is the appropriate term because apparently
[5:37] Speaker 1: playing for the Eagles really hurts because everybody's hurt. Except
[5:41] Speaker 1: for Lane Johnson. He just, some came up. Yeah. He
[5:45] Speaker 1: couldn't play.
[5:45] Speaker 3: Right? Right.
[5:47] Speaker 1: But everybody's hurt. Saquon Barkley, you get out there, another guy,
[5:50] Speaker 1: sneaky old Saquon Barkley. He gets out there, he pulls
[5:54] Speaker 1: his hamstring. So he's out of there. Devontae Smith, he
[5:58] Speaker 1: gets hurt. They were throwing passes to gentlemen with whom
[6:01] Speaker 1: I am not really that familiar. I know who Zach
[6:04] Speaker 1: Ertz is, and that's part of the problem. Because he's
[6:07] Speaker 1: been playing for 40 years.
[6:09] Speaker 2: Yeah, a Cooper, a Lemon, and a Wicks.
[6:11] Speaker 1: Yes, yes. Now, that being said, people who are filmy
[6:15] Speaker 1: will tell you that Those guys might have been running
[6:18] Speaker 1: around wide open and not receiving passes from Jalen Hurts.
[6:24] Speaker 1: Bottom line is, it's been over 90 minutes of game
[6:28] Speaker 1: play since the Eagles converted a third down.
[6:34] Speaker 2: They had a, they were, it was third down, third
[6:37] Speaker 2: and goal. They were up 10 in the third quarter
[6:41] Speaker 2: and they lost.
[6:43] Speaker 1: How does this happen? Did you see that dude down
[6:46] Speaker 1: on the show with Acho and them losing his ever-loving
[6:48] Speaker 1: mind talking about the Eagles?
[6:50] Speaker 3: No.
[6:50] Speaker 1: But the point that he made was their average starting
[6:55] Speaker 1: position on their scoring drives was the plus 26. Right?
[7:00] Speaker 1: I remember looking up at a point in the game,
[7:03] Speaker 1: and it was two turnovers and no points off of
[7:06] Speaker 1: the turnovers, I think was what it said. Right. You
[7:10] Speaker 1: got to get a third down. I don't care how
[7:17] Speaker 1: bad everything is around you. Your quarterback should be capable.
[7:23] Speaker 1: Your quarterback who can run, by the way, should be
[7:26] Speaker 1: capable of getting you one. One would think. That's not,
[7:33] Speaker 1: I'm not, I don't feel comfortable blaming Hertz for what
[7:35] Speaker 1: didn't happen because there was so much that was going on. Right.
[7:38] Speaker 1: But I will say that there was great room for
[7:42] Speaker 1: him to play better. He didn't have to play a
[7:44] Speaker 1: lot better. a little better would have done it. And
[7:48] Speaker 1: if he had played a little better, it still would
[7:50] Speaker 1: have been bad. But he could have played a little
[7:53] Speaker 1: better and they could have won the game, right? And
[7:56] Speaker 1: he didn't. And part of that is because there's a
[7:59] Speaker 1: limitation to how good he is. Now, if every, again,
[8:02] Speaker 1: every team that I've watched him be successful with had
[8:05] Speaker 1: one thing in common. Everybody else was better than him
[8:09] Speaker 1: or at the very least as good, right? Like I
[8:13] Speaker 1: watched him play with them Alabama teams. I watched him
[8:16] Speaker 1: play with Oklahoma. Those squads were loaded. Not everybody can
[8:22] Speaker 1: do this. If you give him a loaded team, he
[8:24] Speaker 1: can help you get to loaded results. But we also
[8:27] Speaker 1: saw 2017 where you gave him a loaded team where
[8:30] Speaker 1: Devontae Smith is the number three receiver and Jalen Waddell
[8:32] Speaker 1: is the number four and had to bench him at halftime.
[8:37] Speaker 1: In this game, Your quarterback that makes money like he's
[8:41] Speaker 1: the quarterback should at the very least get you a
[8:44] Speaker 1: third down. That's all we're asking for here is a
[8:47] Speaker 1: third down conversion. And he can't do that, right? Now, again,
[8:54] Speaker 1: their line is not what it was, dot, dot, dot,
[8:56] Speaker 1: everything else. But they have a quarterback. Here's what you
[9:02] Speaker 1: can't do with him. Overcome. Right. You could perhaps execute.
[9:07] Speaker 1: But you cannot overcome.
[9:09] Speaker 2: And it's obvious you can't overcome.
[9:10] Speaker 1: For better or worse.
[9:12] Speaker 4: Right?
[9:12] Speaker 1: For better or worse, he cannot overcome. And this is
[9:17] Speaker 1: a team that right now looks like they need a
[9:19] Speaker 1: quarterback that can occasionally help you overcome. And they don't
[9:25] Speaker 1: have that. Now, to be fair to them, I say
[9:28] Speaker 1: that I don't think anybody came out of that game
[9:29] Speaker 1: feeling good. Ryan, I ask you this question sincerely. Let's
[9:32] Speaker 1: just stick with the NFC for now. Who feels good?
[9:40] Speaker 2: The 49ers.
[9:41] Speaker 1: I do think they feel good, though. They were not great.
[9:44] Speaker 2: No.
[9:45] Speaker 1: That's the first time they played a real live NFL team. Yes.
[9:48] Speaker 1: And I didn't... Well, no. They played the Rams, but
[9:51] Speaker 1: the Rams.
[9:51] Speaker 2: Yeah, and not in America.
[9:53] Speaker 1: The Rams made horrible decisions along the way.
[9:55] Speaker 5: Yes.
[9:56] Speaker 1: I guess the Seahawks don't feel bad.
[9:59] Speaker 2: The Bears feel good.
[10:01] Speaker 1: Yes. But, yeah, they're 3-1, and they don't have their quarterback.
[10:06] Speaker 2: Well, yeah, three wins with three different starting QBs.
[10:08] Speaker 1: That is correct. They feel good, and, I mean, I
[10:11] Speaker 1: know the Giants feel good. But they have to.
[10:17] Speaker 2: I mean, similar on that... That team, I texted you,
[10:22] Speaker 2: we're never going to have a good football team in
[10:24] Speaker 2: the city.
[10:25] Speaker 1: Dude, the Giants is like, it's like if you looked
[10:30] Speaker 1: in your bank account and there was money there that
[10:34] Speaker 1: you knew wasn't supposed to be there. You know what
[10:38] Speaker 1: I mean? Like, you can spend it if you want.
[10:41] Speaker 1: But you might go to jail for that.
[10:43] Speaker 5: Right?
[10:43] Speaker 1: Like, hey, you know that's not your money. Right. Who
[10:45] Speaker 1: knows that? Also, I don't know if you saw this.
[10:47] Speaker 1: Did you know Camp Scataboo is doing commercials for the
[10:51] Speaker 1: Farmer's Dog?
[10:52] Speaker 2: I did not know that.
[10:53] Speaker 1: And so if you don't know what the Farmer's Dog is,
[10:55] Speaker 1: the Farmer's Dog is a dog food company. And it's
[11:00] Speaker 1: like high-end dog food. Yes. You know, like it's craft
[11:05] Speaker 1: dog food. Is that what we're looking for?
[11:07] Speaker 2: Organic dog food.
[11:08] Speaker 6: Yes, yes, yes.
[11:08] Speaker 1: This is where we are. And it's Scataboo with that
[11:11] Speaker 1: ridiculous haircut and it's showing him feeding the dogs and
[11:14] Speaker 1: he's down and he's, you know, playing with the dogs
[11:17] Speaker 1: and mushing their hair and their fur and all of
[11:19] Speaker 1: that stuff. And I watched that and I was like,
[11:21] Speaker 1: oh my gosh, he's not getting any sleep in North Jersey.
[11:25] Speaker 1: That dude is in North Jersey. Putting in work.
[11:30] Speaker 2: Having a great time.
[11:30] Speaker 1: He's at the dog park. Just watch what happens. Watch
[11:35] Speaker 1: what happens. Not even playing fair. No chance. Shout out
[11:41] Speaker 1: to you, Dallas Cowboys. Because it was about to be
[11:44] Speaker 1: real ugly. They lost that game. Right.
[11:47] Speaker 3: I mean.
[11:48] Speaker 2: Talk about QBs who teams that don't feel good. The
[11:51] Speaker 2: Houston Texans, 0-4.
[11:52] Speaker 1: Yeah, we'll get to that.
[11:53] Speaker 2: We'll get to that, yeah.
[11:54] Speaker 1: Well, I'll tell you who really doesn't feel good. I'll
[11:56] Speaker 1: tell you this. I don't know who watched Sunday Night Football,
[12:01] Speaker 1: but it was layup lines for America's team, the Detroit Lions. Like,
[12:06] Speaker 1: after the game, they were talking to Campbell about whether
[12:08] Speaker 1: or not he would consider making a move off Kelvin Shepard,
[12:10] Speaker 1: the defensive coordinator. What? What's that going to change? Their
[12:14] Speaker 1: problem is their defensive backfield is me, Ryan, and a
[12:19] Speaker 1: couple of y'all. They are down four safeties. They are
[12:24] Speaker 1: on their number five and six safeties. They're on the
[12:28] Speaker 1: last line of defense of their last line of defense.
[12:32] Speaker 1: And the corners aren't good.
[12:34] Speaker 4: Right?
[12:34] Speaker 1: So let's start there. And Collinsworth was talking about this.
[12:37] Speaker 1: Like they want to play man to man. They know
[12:39] Speaker 1: they can't play man to man. They went to zone.
[12:41] Speaker 1: The dudes can't play zone. So they're just like, fuck it.
[12:43] Speaker 1: We might as well play man to man. That's what
[12:45] Speaker 1: we're trying to do. Except the problem is they can't
[12:48] Speaker 1: play man to man. This is, woo.
[12:53] Speaker 6: This.
[12:57] Speaker 1: I chose this life. You opted in. I opted in
[13:02] Speaker 1: with no, like, obvious reason why one would opt in.
[13:06] Speaker 1: But I did opt in. And that was tough, man.
[13:11] Speaker 1: That was demoralizing. I think that's the worst part about it.
[13:14] Speaker 1: Bryce Young, a.k.a. the little homie, somebody sent me a
[13:16] Speaker 1: text and was like, yo, so is Bryce Young good?
[13:18] Speaker 1: I don't know. He's got to play it against a
[13:21] Speaker 1: high school secondary out there. I mean, the little homie,
[13:24] Speaker 1: I say, we will say this from infamously when I
[13:27] Speaker 1: said His first or second year, the little homie's doing
[13:30] Speaker 1: the best he can. The little homie's doing the best
[13:33] Speaker 1: he can, and the best he can is better than
[13:34] Speaker 1: we thought it would be. We're going to have to
[13:36] Speaker 1: kind of adjust the way we look at it when
[13:37] Speaker 1: these guys have awful rookie years.
[13:41] Speaker 2: I mean, he got benched for Andy Dalton.
[13:42] Speaker 1: In year two. In year two. And this is him
[13:46] Speaker 1: being the quarterback that the owner drafted, basically. Right. He's
[13:52] Speaker 1: turned it around, right? Good for him. They're showing him
[13:54] Speaker 1: in the pocket. He's doing them tricks that the little
[13:57] Speaker 1: homies be doing, standing on his toes and all this
[14:00] Speaker 1: stuff to try to figure it out. He's manufactured this,
[14:03] Speaker 1: but they didn't enjoy watching that game at all. That's
[14:09] Speaker 1: what I got. I didn't like how it felt. Oh, shit.
[14:14] Speaker 1: I just didn't. Packers don't feel good either, even though
[14:18] Speaker 1: they won that game. No. I mean, they barely beat
[14:20] Speaker 1: a team with a quarterback Hey, okay, so this is,
[14:26] Speaker 1: I know I've seen people in the comments that when
[14:27] Speaker 1: I say the team must not be good because I
[14:30] Speaker 1: ain't never heard of any of the players. Guys, I
[14:31] Speaker 1: do do this for a fucking living, okay? If it's
[14:34] Speaker 1: at the point where your name has never come up anywhere,
[14:37] Speaker 1: it's okay for me to say, I got a feeling
[14:39] Speaker 1: those guys aren't really that good. No. Right? It's never
[14:42] Speaker 1: come up at all. None of you, right? I mean,
[14:45] Speaker 1: is there a certain arrogance to that? No, because this
[14:48] Speaker 1: is like, I don't know what you think about me
[14:50] Speaker 1: as a practitioner of my craft. I promise you, I
[14:53] Speaker 1: try to keep up. Right. But when we got black
[14:55] Speaker 1: quarterbacks starting in the NFL that I've never heard of, shit.
[14:59] Speaker 1: I don't know who, am I not doing my professional duty?
[15:03] Speaker 1: Am I not doing my personal duty? I don't know
[15:04] Speaker 1: what it is, but they got a brother named Jalen, Jalen,
[15:08] Speaker 1: not to be convinced who Jalen, Jalen Daniels. He went
[15:11] Speaker 1: to Kansas. He played for Tampa Bay and the Packers
[15:15] Speaker 1: beat them by three. And, uh, Packers had an opportunity
[15:22] Speaker 1: to move off the coach last year. They didn't, and
[15:24] Speaker 1: they chose to re-up, and I think they're going to
[15:27] Speaker 1: regret that. Now, part of this, I don't know how
[15:29] Speaker 1: much of it is coaching when you literally can't block. Right.
[15:32] Speaker 5: Right.
[15:33] Speaker 1: For that, I do not have an answer. I'm going
[15:35] Speaker 1: to say one last thing about a team that doesn't
[15:37] Speaker 1: feel good, that I don't think feels good, and that
[15:40] Speaker 1: is the 4-0 Minnesota Vikings.
[15:43] Speaker 2: Oh, I was going to say that was a team
[15:45] Speaker 2: that should feel good. I was going to transition off
[15:47] Speaker 2: them with the Giants in terms of fraud.
[15:50] Speaker 1: Well, well, well, okay. The Vikings played the Dolphins, and
[15:58] Speaker 1: I would argue the game was closer than what we'd
[15:59] Speaker 1: prefer for it to be if you are the undefeated team.
[16:02] Speaker 2: Did not score a touchdown.
[16:03] Speaker 1: Did not score a touchdown.
[16:04] Speaker 4: Now.
[16:09] Speaker 1: This Kyler Murray guy appears to be making a fool
[16:13] Speaker 1: of you, boy. I don't really appreciate that. These other
[16:17] Speaker 1: people didn't stand with you, but I did. in spite
[16:21] Speaker 1: of that weird shit that happened that time I met him.
[16:23] Speaker 1: I stood, right? I was like, no, man, this guy
[16:26] Speaker 1: got it. I don't really understand why they so down
[16:29] Speaker 1: on him down there, the way they acted about it.
[16:30] Speaker 1: If Sam Darnold can get good, I don't see why
[16:33] Speaker 1: Kyler Murray can't get good. And I still don't see
[16:35] Speaker 1: why Kyler Murray can't get good. I would like him
[16:38] Speaker 1: to do it, though, because I got news for you, Jack.
[16:41] Speaker 1: If he doesn't, we put out some social content that's
[16:44] Speaker 1: going to bite me in the keister repeatedly. Repeatedly. I
[16:49] Speaker 1: learned last week. It's a lot of people waiting for
[16:52] Speaker 1: moments like these. And Kyler Murray appears to be playing
[16:55] Speaker 1: for an 18. There's two of them in a row.
[16:58] Speaker 1: First one, like, hey, man, you ain't played in a while.
[17:00] Speaker 1: Then right there, it happened again. Son, I need you
[17:03] Speaker 1: to understand this. They have already parked you for Jacoby Brissett,
[17:08] Speaker 1: which means they will definitely park you for Carson Wentz. Please, please, please.
[17:14] Speaker 1: They've already seen a little proof of concept.
[17:16] Speaker 2: I have a Kellen O'Connell thought.
[17:18] Speaker 1: Fire away.
[17:19] Speaker 2: You know how they always refer to these guys as
[17:21] Speaker 2: the quarterback whisperer?
[17:22] Speaker 1: Yes.
[17:22] Speaker 2: Maybe he needs to speak up.
[17:24] Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, yeah. That's the one thing about the quarterback whisperer. Like, yeah,
[17:27] Speaker 1: some people need to, like, talk to him. Now, for
[17:30] Speaker 1: what it's worth, it was clear that they were not
[17:32] Speaker 1: whispering at J.J. McCarthy anymore.
[17:33] Speaker 2: No.
[17:34] Speaker 1: They were speaking with their chests when they... Gave him
[17:38] Speaker 1: the boot. Oh, my God. Before they gave him the boot.
[17:41] Speaker 1: All of it. They were just like, we are sick
[17:42] Speaker 1: of this. Like, what is this? But, yeah, I need.
[17:47] Speaker 1: For the Vikings to really have a chance to win
[17:49] Speaker 1: the Super Bowl. Because here's what the Vikings are going
[17:52] Speaker 1: to be susceptible to is, they're going to give up
[17:53] Speaker 1: some big plays every now and then because they're blitzing 80%
[17:56] Speaker 1: of the time or 70% of the time, whatever it is.
[17:58] Speaker 2: Which is not what you do when you're actually good.
[18:00] Speaker 1: Yes, except they kind of are, right? Every now and then,
[18:06] Speaker 1: something big is going to happen. They're going to give
[18:09] Speaker 1: up a 53-yard run in this game, for example. And
[18:13] Speaker 1: every now and then, the 85 Bears had a game
[18:15] Speaker 1: where they need to score some points. Right. Right. They're
[18:17] Speaker 1: going to need to score some points and nine yards
[18:23] Speaker 1: of completion. That's not. No. That's, that's, that's, that's, that's
[18:30] Speaker 1: not going to do. Okay. I feel like, I don't
[18:39] Speaker 1: know why I waited so long into the show to
[18:43] Speaker 1: get here, but Sunday was another Nick Wright special.
[18:47] Speaker 4: Yes.
[18:47] Speaker 1: Right? His birthday was over the weekend, and he got
[18:51] Speaker 1: another bad Justin Herbert game, which, again, is another situation of,
[18:54] Speaker 1: but they can't block.
[18:55] Speaker 4: Right. Right?
[18:56] Speaker 1: And I am not the excuse Justin Herbert for everything,
[18:59] Speaker 1: but I think it was fair to mention with Hurts
[19:01] Speaker 1: who wasn't playing. Everybody got hurt this week, it felt like.
[19:06] Speaker 1: But they're not doing a lot of blocking. For him.
[19:10] Speaker 3: Okay.
[19:10] Speaker 1: Let's throw it out there. But he still stunk. And, oh, boy,
[19:15] Speaker 1: Josh Allen. Time machine. Yes. This is the– this is
[19:24] Speaker 1: throwing it up to the square body in the playoffs.
[19:27] Speaker 1: Josh Allen.
[19:28] Speaker 2: You'll never move on from that.
[19:30] Speaker 5: No.
[19:31] Speaker 2: No.
[19:31] Speaker 1: And apparently neither will he. He threw two of the
[19:35] Speaker 1: craziest passes I've ever seen in this game. One of them.
[19:38] Speaker 1: Did you see where they had him near the goal
[19:41] Speaker 1: line and he just backhand flipped that shit? Yeah. How
[19:44] Speaker 1: was that not intentional grounding? It had to be intentional
[19:47] Speaker 1: grounding or fumble the only argument on how it wasn't
[19:51] Speaker 1: intentional grounding is if it was a fumble otherwise what
[19:56] Speaker 1: are we that's the conspiracy theory right there it's all
[20:01] Speaker 1: fakes josh allen it's if It's not his fault. It's
[20:06] Speaker 1: not his fault. But y'all know what y'all doing. And
[20:09] Speaker 1: when I say y'all, I mean it in italics. Y'all
[20:13] Speaker 1: know what y'all doing. They still call him an MVP.
[20:15] Speaker 1: We still talking that. Remember how ready everybody was to
[20:17] Speaker 1: make him the best quarterback in the league and everything else?
[20:19] Speaker 1: Are they still saying that now? I'm asking that sincerely
[20:22] Speaker 1: because it feels like a fluid situation.
[20:24] Speaker 2: I bet he is the betting favorite.
[20:29] Speaker 3: Ah, ah.
[20:30] Speaker 1: I know who I got as the betting favorite, and
[20:32] Speaker 1: we'll talk about him in a minute.
[20:33] Speaker 6: But, um.
[20:34] Speaker 1: The Patriots, the Patriots, I don't know if save their
[20:37] Speaker 1: season is the right way to put it, but I
[20:39] Speaker 1: think save their season is the right way to put it.
[20:41] Speaker 1: They got a good half out of Drake May. Right.
[20:43] Speaker 1: And that interception Josh Allen threw at the end. Okay.
[20:49] Speaker 1: Where he just heaved it. Just one minute left. They
[20:52] Speaker 1: got all their timeouts. He just threw it up there.
[20:56] Speaker 1: Did he forget what color his team was wearing? Right.
[21:00] Speaker 1: There's two white shirts over there. Absolutely no need. Full
[21:04] Speaker 1: on ridiculous. Why are you doing this? And look, they've
[21:08] Speaker 1: cast their lot on the idea that we're just going
[21:11] Speaker 1: to live with Josh Allen and whatever he does. But
[21:14] Speaker 1: that's not I don't think that's what they're talking about.
[21:16] Speaker 1: Like the idea isn't, and every now and then be
[21:19] Speaker 1: a moron. The idea is every now and then take
[21:22] Speaker 1: some chances because you can do superhuman things. That was
[21:25] Speaker 1: not an example of like, I just have so much
[21:27] Speaker 1: faith in my arm. That was a freak out. And
[21:30] Speaker 1: what he does do, and this is something I don't
[21:32] Speaker 1: believe that people can change if they got it in them.
[21:35] Speaker 1: Every now and then he's going to freak out. Every
[21:37] Speaker 1: now and then he's going to throw it up there
[21:39] Speaker 1: to the square body. That's why the square body comes up.
[21:42] Speaker 1: It was some of our first evidence that he's that guy.
[21:45] Speaker 2: That was about, what, five, six years ago?
[21:47] Speaker 1: It was 2019. So six and a half.
[21:52] Speaker 3: Yeah.
[21:53] Speaker 1: Okay. But he's that guy. What guy? That guy. You
[22:00] Speaker 1: saw it, right? This is going to be the fun
[22:02] Speaker 1: part of the year because they fully decided that that's
[22:06] Speaker 1: what they're going to do. But he's going to do that, right?
[22:09] Speaker 1: That was, whew. I also saw something, too, where the
[22:12] Speaker 1: Bills were like, the defense has got to get used
[22:14] Speaker 1: to the fact that the stadium's so loud. Don't say
[22:15] Speaker 1: that out loud, big dog.
[22:16] Speaker 6: Don't, don't, don't.
[22:18] Speaker 1: Don't do that. Don't do that. Keep that to yourself.
[22:20] Speaker 2: Yeah, that's a don't telling yourself.
[22:23] Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah.
[22:24] Speaker 6: Shh.
[22:26] Speaker 1: But no, the Patriots, yeah, I think it's fair to say,
[22:28] Speaker 1: Patriots saved their season. Yes. Did you watch much of
[22:31] Speaker 1: Chiefs Raiders?
[22:32] Speaker 2: Yes, I had that on.
[22:35] Speaker 1: I watched the vast majority of it. I popped in
[22:37] Speaker 1: every now and then to San Francisco. Damn, there goes
[22:39] Speaker 1: San Francisco. Didn't get around to talking about them again.
[22:42] Speaker 1: But we can now and say Denver, not feeling good.
[22:45] Speaker 4: Right.
[22:46] Speaker 1: Okay. Yeah. Not feeling good because they did a good
[22:51] Speaker 1: enough job defensively that, If your quarterback is what people
[22:55] Speaker 1: keep telling me their quarterback is, they should have had
[22:57] Speaker 1: a chance to win that game, and I don't really
[22:59] Speaker 1: ever feel like they truly had a chance to win
[23:01] Speaker 1: that game. Also, hot take that I just thought about
[23:04] Speaker 1: as I saw it in that game with that big
[23:06] Speaker 1: play Kittle made at the end, and I've said this
[23:08] Speaker 1: for years, just throwing it out there. If you gave
[23:13] Speaker 1: me the choice of Kelsey and Kittle, I have always
[23:17] Speaker 1: been on give me Kittle every single time.
[23:18] Speaker 2: Really?
[23:19] Speaker 1: I don't think it's. Kelsey is a bit closer to
[23:24] Speaker 1: the Jason Witten end of things. And I feel like
[23:27] Speaker 1: Kittle is a little closer to Antonio Gates. Big play guy.
[23:31] Speaker 1: Better blocker. Kelsey is very good. Yes. I'm not calling
[23:35] Speaker 1: him Jason Witten. He's much better than Jason Witten.
[23:38] Speaker 4: But.
[23:39] Speaker 1: Kittle's a beast.
[23:40] Speaker 2: Kittle is a beast.
[23:40] Speaker 1: Kittle's been a beast. The big thing I'm saying here
[23:43] Speaker 1: is not Travis Kelsey is overrated.
[23:45] Speaker 2: Right.
[23:46] Speaker 1: And I've learned people take that word very seriously.
[23:48] Speaker 2: Very seriously. Yeah, yeah.
[23:49] Speaker 1: It's a slur. I had no idea. Overrated is a
[23:52] Speaker 1: slur to people. But Kittle is underrated. Yeah. That I
[23:56] Speaker 1: have always felt. But anyway... Back to that other team,
[24:00] Speaker 1: the Buffalo Bills. Are we going to play the roller coaster?
[24:03] Speaker 1: Then let's do it. My man Keyon is back out
[24:05] Speaker 1: there getting it done. Sounds like the problem with Sean
[24:08] Speaker 1: McDermott when it came to him. Right? That sounds like
[24:13] Speaker 1: the issue. But that's going to be a wild ride
[24:16] Speaker 1: with Buffalo if this is how it's going to go
[24:18] Speaker 1: all year long. Hey, I'm looking forward to watching. But
[24:21] Speaker 1: we have gotten back. That's right. Chiefs Raiders. Yes. Sorry
[24:23] Speaker 1: about that. I don't know how I would say I
[24:29] Speaker 1: felt about the Raiders coming out of that game. I
[24:32] Speaker 1: will say this. They felt to me, and a lot
[24:36] Speaker 1: of this is just vibes, and of course a lot
[24:38] Speaker 1: of this is you come into the game with your priors.
[24:40] Speaker 1: You know what it feels like when you're watching a
[24:42] Speaker 1: game and you don't think a team is good, and
[24:44] Speaker 1: they always have to overcome the fact that you don't
[24:46] Speaker 1: think they're good, even though they're getting it done, like
[24:49] Speaker 1: they were playing well. You know, right there with the
[24:51] Speaker 1: Chiefs for the vast majority of the game. But then
[24:54] Speaker 1: next thing you know, Patrick Mahomes just throws something up
[24:56] Speaker 1: soft and high. And you're like, oh, somebody's going to
[24:58] Speaker 1: catch that. Yes.
[24:58] Speaker 4: Right?
[24:59] Speaker 1: It never felt like the Raiders were going to win.
[25:01] Speaker 1: But it felt like they were losing in that way
[25:03] Speaker 1: that they are a team that has gotten better and
[25:05] Speaker 1: just wasn't quite ready for a game that had the
[25:07] Speaker 1: stakes that that game had. For sure. They're not frauds,
[25:11] Speaker 1: I guess is the way that I would put it.
[25:12] Speaker 1: Their defense looked like fraud. It was pretty good. And
[25:15] Speaker 1: the Chiefs weren't getting any pressure. I asked Mina. I
[25:17] Speaker 1: was like, so what's the issue here? She's like, no,
[25:19] Speaker 1: the Raiders offensive line is good. Yeah. You know, so.
[25:22] Speaker 1: Good for them. On the other side, our guy Mahomes
[25:25] Speaker 1: is back, dawg. Now, obviously there are issues on guys
[25:29] Speaker 1: to throw to, and we had a dislocated ankle situation,
[25:32] Speaker 1: and that guy having a career game. Okay, so you
[25:34] Speaker 1: guys know me. I don't do catastrophic injuries. I don't
[25:37] Speaker 1: watch them. If there's any way that I can avoid
[25:39] Speaker 1: looking at a catastrophic injury, I'm going to absolutely pull
[25:42] Speaker 1: that off, right? I saw what happened to Thornton in
[25:46] Speaker 1: that game. It was wild because he caught it and
[25:49] Speaker 1: he got up to do his whole first down thing
[25:51] Speaker 1: and then he looked down and was like, oh shit,
[25:52] Speaker 1: my ankle is hanging off. What a weird injury. Because
[25:57] Speaker 1: the last of those catastrophic injuries that I saw like
[25:59] Speaker 1: that was Dak Prescott with a dislocated ankle where he
[26:03] Speaker 1: made the play and then he's on the ground and
[26:04] Speaker 1: he's just like... Like, nobody can tell what the issue is. Yeah. Right?
[26:09] Speaker 1: And the same thing happened with Thornton. And the dude's like, yo, yo,
[26:11] Speaker 1: what's going on? He's like, bro, look at my ankle.
[26:13] Speaker 2: Yeah.
[26:14] Speaker 4: Oh, whoa.
[26:15] Speaker 1: And I have to say, man, I know you was hurt,
[26:16] Speaker 1: but don't be telling nobody to look at nothing like that. Like,
[26:19] Speaker 1: I'd have waited.
[26:20] Speaker 2: Even for the people who it's their job?
[26:22] Speaker 1: After he did that, man, I'd have waited a couple
[26:24] Speaker 1: of days. And I'd have been like, hey, man. You
[26:26] Speaker 1: ain't need to tell me to look at it. All
[26:27] Speaker 1: you had to do was tell me that it hurt. Like,
[26:29] Speaker 1: your word was good enough.
[26:32] Speaker 2: We trust you.
[26:32] Speaker 1: I didn't need no verification. Why I got to look
[26:34] Speaker 1: at this? Now they all out there, you know, it's
[26:36] Speaker 1: prayer circle time, right? They locked up. They about to
[26:39] Speaker 1: get it done. But now the Chiefs are down another guy.
[26:44] Speaker 2: Again. You know who they're about to go get.
[26:46] Speaker 4: Oh, yeah.
[26:46] Speaker 1: But he's not going to be ready. They're talking about
[26:48] Speaker 1: going to get Tyreek, but Tyreek's probably not going to
[26:50] Speaker 1: be ready for a month.
[26:51] Speaker 2: At least.
[26:52] Speaker 1: And what's he got left?
[26:55] Speaker 3: I mean.
[26:57] Speaker 1: But Mahomes looks like that guy again.
[26:58] Speaker 2: Yes.
[26:59] Speaker 1: I do know that. Mahomes is that guy again. We
[27:02] Speaker 1: talked about this a little bit, but the return of
[27:04] Speaker 1: the enemy. Yes, it matters. That's a big deal. That man,
[27:12] Speaker 1: talk about going through a lot, by the way. I
[27:14] Speaker 1: feel like we have just completely forgotten what his situation is.
[27:18] Speaker 2: Just haven't mentioned it.
[27:19] Speaker 4: I don't.
[27:21] Speaker 1: Look, I ain't the one to tell that man what
[27:23] Speaker 1: he should or should not be doing or anything as such.
[27:25] Speaker 1: But at the same time.
[27:26] Speaker 2: He's out there.
[27:27] Speaker 1: He's out there. We all cope as we cope. It's funny, though.
[27:32] Speaker 1: They ain't giving him the Deshaun Watson treatment. No. Like, oh,
[27:35] Speaker 1: after everything he's been through. And by the way, he's
[27:37] Speaker 1: been through a lot. It's just an uncomfortable topic. But
[27:42] Speaker 1: if you're giving people credit for overcoming adversity, I don't
[27:48] Speaker 1: know who's overcoming more of it than he is right now.
[27:52] Speaker 1: I just don't. Anyway, the Chiefs are really good.
[27:56] Speaker 2: They're really good. Kenneth Walker's really good. Well, that's the
[27:59] Speaker 2: big one, man.
[28:01] Speaker 1: I am all here for the reinvestment in the bell
[28:04] Speaker 1: cow running back. The dude you give the ball to
[28:08] Speaker 1: who runs through people, who runs around people. There's still,
[28:11] Speaker 1: to me, nothing more entertaining to watch in a football
[28:15] Speaker 1: game because the running back that does that is actually,
[28:17] Speaker 1: to me, embodying and doing all the things that are
[28:21] Speaker 1: why we're here in the first place. You know, like
[28:24] Speaker 1: this precision passion game and basically the idea that the
[28:28] Speaker 1: star is the coach. Fuck that. The stars are dudes
[28:32] Speaker 1: out there. In the running game, that is Jimmy's and Joe's.
[28:35] Speaker 4: Yes.
[28:35] Speaker 1: You know, you can talk scheme. You can talk everything else.
[28:38] Speaker 1: That is a Jimmy's and Joe's situation. Put them out front. Oh, yeah.
[28:43] Speaker 1: I forgot about that. Not feeling good about it. Jacksonville Jaguars.
[28:47] Speaker 1: I think those guys feel good.
[28:48] Speaker 2: Feel good.
[28:49] Speaker 1: Got an important win there over the Cincinnati Bengals. The
[28:52] Speaker 1: shockingly best division in the league is the AFC North,
[28:55] Speaker 1: where every team is over 500. Where the Browns are 3-1. However,
[29:00] Speaker 1: 3-1 with a minus 14 point differential. You don't see
[29:04] Speaker 1: that every day.
[29:05] Speaker 5: No.
[29:06] Speaker 1: But Lamar Jackson's hurt. And it's a shame because he
[29:09] Speaker 1: was Dealing. He is. This old situation with Declan Doyle,
[29:15] Speaker 1: the one who daddy I don't like. Apparently he and
[29:18] Speaker 1: Lamar got something figured out because Lamar's out there dealing.
[29:21] Speaker 1: And by the way, that boy Snoop Huntley came in
[29:24] Speaker 1: there and he was dealing a little bit himself. But dealing. Dealing.
[29:29] Speaker 1: And Ryan, this actually points out something you were mentioning.
[29:31] Speaker 1: And Doyle is not off that Shanahan-McVeigh tree. He's a
[29:36] Speaker 1: Ben Johnson guy.
[29:38] Speaker 2: Yes.
[29:38] Speaker 4: And I don't.
[29:39] Speaker 1: Schematically. I don't really know where Campbell and Johnson stuff
[29:42] Speaker 1: stems from like off the top of my head, but
[29:44] Speaker 1: I don't, I don't think they're from that tree. You
[29:47] Speaker 1: made a very, you raised an interesting question about the
[29:49] Speaker 1: Eagles off Mike that I think is something that's going
[29:51] Speaker 1: to be interesting to keep track of with all these teams,
[29:54] Speaker 1: which was why is it that the Eagles always have
[29:58] Speaker 1: like a teenager in As their offensive coordinator.
[30:01] Speaker 2: A teenager and someone, it's the first time they're doing it.
[30:03] Speaker 1: Yes. And the answer is, everybody is trying to move
[30:07] Speaker 1: into what the future has become in these schemes. They
[30:09] Speaker 1: want these Shanahan schemes. They want these McVay schemes. I mean,
[30:12] Speaker 1: I guess Ben Johnson's going to wind up with a
[30:14] Speaker 1: tree of his to a degree. All those guys are young. Yes.
[30:19] Speaker 1: Like every single one of them is young. McVay, for example,
[30:23] Speaker 1: clearly has a priority for getting these young guys, which
[30:26] Speaker 1: I also think is important for these guys who were
[30:28] Speaker 1: young coaches. You kind of need people that you could
[30:30] Speaker 1: be in charge of. Yes. Like Sean McVay was a
[30:33] Speaker 1: head coach at 30. I wouldn't have listened to him
[30:36] Speaker 1: at 30. No, of course not. Yeah, why would I
[30:38] Speaker 1: have done something like that?
[30:39] Speaker 4: Right.
[30:39] Speaker 6: Right?
[30:41] Speaker 1: So many of these teams, it feels like, I mean,
[30:43] Speaker 1: we need to probably go count it to a degree,
[30:45] Speaker 1: but they're going to hire these guys like Doyle and
[30:47] Speaker 1: everybody else because these are the guys that are.
[30:49] Speaker 2: Davis Webb's calling plays for the Broncos.
[30:52] Speaker 1: Yeah, exactly. These guys are going to be the ones
[30:55] Speaker 1: that are like on the vanguard. So they're going to
[30:57] Speaker 1: be the ones to call the plays. But what that
[30:59] Speaker 1: also means is these teams are going to have a
[31:01] Speaker 1: bunch of kids calling plays. How that manifests itself is
[31:06] Speaker 1: going to be interesting where everybody has somebody young calling
[31:11] Speaker 1: the plays. I don't have a great answer for it,
[31:15] Speaker 1: but I do think that there's something interesting to that.
[31:17] Speaker 1: We're going to have like how many of the teams
[31:19] Speaker 1: that matter are we going to get to like in
[31:21] Speaker 1: the postseason? And you got somebody 31 years old who
[31:24] Speaker 1: hasn't really been doing this very long. Because the other
[31:26] Speaker 1: thing that happens is with these guys is if they're
[31:28] Speaker 1: any good, they become head coaches.
[31:30] Speaker 2: Immediately.
[31:31] Speaker 1: Yeah, immediately. You can't keep them. Yeah. Because if people
[31:34] Speaker 1: want that scheme, they're like, we want to bring you in. Yeah,
[31:36] Speaker 1: bring me in as the head coach. And we've seen
[31:37] Speaker 1: the teams are willing to fire the head coach to
[31:39] Speaker 1: bring the offensive coordinator that they want if that's what
[31:42] Speaker 1: they have to do. You know, that's going to be
[31:46] Speaker 1: a thing. You're talking about people not feeling good. The
[31:51] Speaker 1: Houston Texans, shockingly, 4-0.
[31:53] Speaker 4: I mean, 0-6.
[31:55] Speaker 5: 0-4.
[31:56] Speaker 1: Yes. Slight difference. Yeah. And Stroud wasn't bad in that game. No.
[32:01] Speaker 1: That game, they couldn't stop anybody. That's crazy. Their season's over.
[32:05] Speaker 4: Yes.
[32:05] Speaker 1: They're cooked. The Titans, look, the Titans was never a thing, okay?
[32:10] Speaker 1: But at the same time, did you see the thing
[32:12] Speaker 1: that happened with Cam Ward? And it doesn't sound like
[32:15] Speaker 1: it was his fault.
[32:17] Speaker 2: Whatever's going on between him and the media there is
[32:20] Speaker 2: super weird.
[32:22] Speaker 1: You only have a media go that hard at the quarterback,
[32:26] Speaker 1: let alone the young quarterback on a team that nobody
[32:29] Speaker 1: expects to be good, with the consent of either coaching
[32:34] Speaker 1: or management. I don't know what they are telling people
[32:37] Speaker 1: about him, but I don't know how that turns around.
[32:43] Speaker 1: He was the number one overall pick last year. The
[32:47] Speaker 1: only thing that to me seems to be his saving
[32:50] Speaker 1: grace right now Is there a quarterback in this upcoming
[32:56] Speaker 1: draft that's so good that you can do a Josh
[32:59] Speaker 1: Rosen type of situation on him? Because everything about it
[33:04] Speaker 1: seems sour. And in a way, again, I don't think
[33:07] Speaker 1: I've ever felt like I've seen anything like this that
[33:10] Speaker 1: felt this hour. And he hasn't been good, but what
[33:13] Speaker 1: we were just talking about before with Bryce Young, the
[33:15] Speaker 1: growth arc on these guys, it feels like we have
[33:17] Speaker 1: to look at that a little bit differently. Now, he's
[33:18] Speaker 1: a lot older than Bryce Young was.
[33:20] Speaker 6: Right.
[33:20] Speaker 1: But we still, I don't know if we can go
[33:23] Speaker 1: about looking at teams.
[33:24] Speaker 2: It's just so wild how hostile it is.
[33:27] Speaker 1: I've never seen anything like that.
[33:30] Speaker 2: That's not how. American media works ever.
[33:33] Speaker 3: No.
[33:34] Speaker 1: Especially not where the teams have so much control over
[33:37] Speaker 1: the media guys. That's... Now, they did have that one
[33:41] Speaker 1: guy that came and asked him that question, and I
[33:43] Speaker 1: think they took his press pass away from him. But
[33:45] Speaker 1: then we saw more stuff come after. Somebody's telling these
[33:48] Speaker 1: guys this is okay. And it's interesting because they have
[33:51] Speaker 1: an obvious ownership problem with that team. Like, the only
[33:55] Speaker 1: thing worse than Bud Adams being your owner is a
[33:57] Speaker 1: second-generation Bud Adams situation. And that's what they've got. Like,
[34:01] Speaker 1: this team doesn't look good. The organization doesn't seem to
[34:03] Speaker 1: be strong. People around them have been complaining about Amy
[34:06] Speaker 1: Strzok for as long as I can think of, you know,
[34:08] Speaker 1: since she got there. The quarterback is not, the quarterback
[34:12] Speaker 1: may be a reflection of an issue, but their issues
[34:15] Speaker 1: are grand and they are giant. And it all seems
[34:18] Speaker 1: that right now, the face of it is their 20
[34:21] Speaker 1: something year old quarterback who, I mean, I don't know.
[34:25] Speaker 1: I don't, I don't know what exactly to make of it,
[34:29] Speaker 1: but it's bad.
[34:31] Speaker 2: It's, and this is the same organization that ran off
[34:33] Speaker 2: Mike Vrabel.
[34:34] Speaker 1: Yes.
[34:35] Speaker 2: Gave away AJ Brown and said, no, thanks, Derrick Henry.
[34:39] Speaker 1: When you put it like that. Last thing I'll say
[34:43] Speaker 1: before we get out of here, Ryan mentioned this about
[34:45] Speaker 1: we'll never have a good football team in this city.
[34:47] Speaker 1: Shout out to the Jets. They had their first interception
[34:49] Speaker 1: in 21 games. And which one of these 30-year-old offensive
[34:54] Speaker 1: coordinators are we talking about that's going to be their
[34:56] Speaker 1: head coach next year? Because their head coach is not
[34:59] Speaker 1: going to be Aaron Glenn.
[35:01] Speaker 2: The Bears had more first downs than the Jets ran plays.
[35:06] Speaker 1: Tyson Bajent. was the quarterback in that game. But let
[35:11] Speaker 1: me tell you about a man that is not comfortable
[35:13] Speaker 1: with vulnerable emotions. Did you see the post-game clip of
[35:16] Speaker 1: him where, and I get it, like somebody in the
[35:19] Speaker 1: media was going to the well-worn tale of he's from
[35:22] Speaker 1: some little bitty town in West Virginia, and he talked
[35:24] Speaker 1: about how important it was to be a guy from
[35:26] Speaker 1: West Virginia. And Bajan was like, well, the song is
[35:28] Speaker 1: not called West Virginia. He does not seem pleasant. But
[35:32] Speaker 1: he's like, the song is not called West Virginia. It's
[35:34] Speaker 1: called something else. That's fine, you know, but, you know,
[35:38] Speaker 1: As you know, I'm from a little town, from West Virginia, da-da-da.
[35:42] Speaker 1: I will cry if I start talking about this, so
[35:46] Speaker 1: don't ask me that again. He said that like twice. Yes. Like,
[35:50] Speaker 1: don't ask me that again. That man is not prepared
[35:53] Speaker 1: to cry in front of us.
[35:54] Speaker 2: No.
[35:54] Speaker 1: He is absolutely not. That's some hard-scrabble West Virginia shit
[35:58] Speaker 1: right there. But it was just, he was so, don't
[36:01] Speaker 1: ask me that again. Sorry, buddy. I thought you'd be
[36:04] Speaker 1: a little happier to be here. Be glad somebody asking

[37:44] Speaker 5: Now, if you haven't heard.
[37:48] Speaker 2: All right, Bo, if you haven't heard, presented by PrizePix,
[37:51] Speaker 2: the Fever season ended over the weekend, but the controversy
[37:56] Speaker 2: did not. On Saturday, the Fever's general manager defended the
[37:59] Speaker 2: Fever fan base after a series of criticisms. Quote, the
[38:02] Speaker 2: attacks on our fan base have no basis in reality,
[38:04] Speaker 2: and they need to stop, especially with members of the media.
[38:07] Speaker 2: I'm talking about media who have never been to a game.
[38:09] Speaker 2: At Fieldhouse, every organization in the league, every organization to
[38:12] Speaker 2: which professionals work, All the way down to youth, rec
[38:14] Speaker 2: weeds have to deal with occasional bad behavior from the spectators. Bo,
[38:19] Speaker 2: what was your reaction to this comment?
[38:20] Speaker 1: Boy, she spelled black Twitter wrong. That's what she's talking about.
[38:28] Speaker 1: That's what she's talking about. Black people have decided that
[38:33] Speaker 1: this is the worst fan environment that there's ever been.
[38:37] Speaker 1: Everywhere they go. And here's the thing. I can't speak
[38:41] Speaker 1: to whether that's true or not, okay? I am inclined
[38:45] Speaker 1: to agree with the people and not with that woman,
[38:48] Speaker 1: the general manager. Wow, that sounded awful. That sounded terrible.
[38:54] Speaker 1: My God. Her name is Amber Cox, right? Yes. Okay.
[38:58] Speaker 1: I am inclined to believe the people, not Amber Cox.
[39:03] Speaker 4: Yes.
[39:04] Speaker 1: There are two reasons why, okay? Shit. Number one. Did
[39:09] Speaker 1: you watch, I think it's called Winning Time. It was
[39:14] Speaker 1: a game time. It was the 30 for 30 about
[39:16] Speaker 1: the Knicks Pacers rivalry during the 90s.
[39:20] Speaker 2: That was Winning Time, yes.
[39:21] Speaker 1: Well, it was Winning Time. Yes. Okay. One theme of
[39:27] Speaker 1: that documentary is the story. startling racism from Indiana Pacers fans.
[39:34] Speaker 1: including a sign that was held up by a fan,
[39:39] Speaker 1: and I can't remember the exact wording, but the poster
[39:42] Speaker 1: board had a picture of a noose, and it was like,
[39:46] Speaker 1: hang the Knicks, string the Knicks up, like something in
[39:49] Speaker 1: the lynching family. Yes, okay? Now, it used to be
[39:54] Speaker 1: back in the day when you would bring up something
[39:56] Speaker 1: like that that happened 30 years ago, you would say, well,
[39:58] Speaker 1: that was a long time ago. That don't work no more.
[40:01] Speaker 1: In fact, if that's what it was 30 years ago, unfortunately,
[40:05] Speaker 1: now you got to wonder if the shit's worse, right?
[40:08] Speaker 1: Like this isn't, it's not the sixties anymore. No, no, no.
[40:10] Speaker 1: You can't play that card no more. Look around you,
[40:12] Speaker 1: watch the news. We'll talk about some of that a
[40:14] Speaker 1: little bit later. But anyway, um, I believe, I don't
[40:18] Speaker 1: think all these people are making this up, right? I
[40:22] Speaker 1: don't believe that all these women who are in the
[40:25] Speaker 1: league are just, like, jibber-jabbering when it comes to this.
[40:30] Speaker 1: There is an issue with the way that players and
[40:35] Speaker 1: other fans are receiving the fans of the fever. Now,
[40:41] Speaker 1: you notice the woman was very careful. Amber Cox.
[40:45] Speaker 2: Amber Cox.
[40:46] Speaker 1: Amber Cox. Man, I might need to do some introspection.
[40:51] Speaker 1: But she was like, her problem, she made it very clear,
[40:55] Speaker 1: was with people who haven't even been there. So my
[40:59] Speaker 1: question for her is, what do you have to say
[41:02] Speaker 1: about the people who have been there and are saying
[41:06] Speaker 1: very similar things? And the answer is, whatever she might
[41:12] Speaker 1: say to them, She can't say it in front of everybody.
[41:16] Speaker 1: They're in a bind, all right? And this is why
[41:19] Speaker 1: I say they're in a bind. And I'm not saying
[41:20] Speaker 1: this to absolve her of anything. I'm just saying, let's
[41:23] Speaker 1: just be honest about this. I don't know if any
[41:25] Speaker 1: of you remember the night of the malice in the
[41:27] Speaker 1: palace in 2004. But if you remember, Bill Walton was
[41:31] Speaker 1: on the mic and I forget who was with him.
[41:32] Speaker 1: It might've been John Saunders. I'm not sure who was
[41:34] Speaker 1: doing the play-by-play. But the play-by-play team after it happened
[41:39] Speaker 1: and the post-game set, unanimously chastised the fans for their
[41:46] Speaker 1: poor behavior. The villains that night were the fans. And
[41:51] Speaker 1: if you read, those guys have all the fun, the
[41:54] Speaker 1: oral history of ESPN. Everybody went to sleep, and by
[41:57] Speaker 1: the time they had woke up, there had been meetings,
[41:59] Speaker 1: there had been calls, and it had been determined Now,
[42:01] Speaker 1: what we're not going to do is get on TV
[42:04] Speaker 1: and blame the fans.
[42:06] Speaker 2: Blame the customers.
[42:07] Speaker 1: The customers. They completely changed the entire tenor of the discussion,
[42:13] Speaker 1: and there was no room for anything that was anything
[42:16] Speaker 1: other than the players were wrong because you cannot tell
[42:19] Speaker 1: the customers it's their fault. Right or wrong, that is
[42:23] Speaker 1: not how these things work. And so, Amber Cox... Amber
[42:30] Speaker 1: Cox is not going to get on the microphone and
[42:32] Speaker 1: be like, well, you know, the problem we got is
[42:34] Speaker 1: it's a lot of racists up here.
[42:36] Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
[42:36] Speaker 1: We're trying to do something about it. I don't know
[42:38] Speaker 1: what to tell you, man, but it's a lot of them. No, man,
[42:40] Speaker 1: that's not on the board in terms of how to
[42:43] Speaker 1: handle it. So what are they supposed to do? Because
[42:45] Speaker 1: Kelsey Mitchell, given those quotes where she said, you know,
[42:48] Speaker 1: it's tough when you don't even know if your fans
[42:50] Speaker 1: like you. Your players are saying this, right? That got
[42:56] Speaker 1: so crazy to the point where... Kelsey Mitchell is getting
[43:00] Speaker 1: hell from fans for playing too well because they interfering
[43:04] Speaker 1: with the Kaitlin Clark MVP case. I don't know how
[43:06] Speaker 1: many of the people that are responding like that are
[43:08] Speaker 1: actual people and how many are bots, but I'm just
[43:11] Speaker 1: saying that's in the air in your incredibly online league.
[43:15] Speaker 1: This is what it is, right or wrong. Players and
[43:18] Speaker 1: fans believe this is you. And it's the player part
[43:22] Speaker 1: that you got to watch out for. Because I don't know,
[43:25] Speaker 1: why would you want to go play there? If you
[43:28] Speaker 1: had any other option given this, why would you want
[43:32] Speaker 1: to play on that team? The only person that seems
[43:34] Speaker 1: to be getting auxiliary benefits from playing next to Kaitlin
[43:38] Speaker 1: Clark and her fame is who? Who's getting it?
[43:41] Speaker 2: Sophie Cunningham.
[43:41] Speaker 1: That's the only person that's getting it. So why is
[43:44] Speaker 1: the rest of the league, and put it in italics,
[43:47] Speaker 1: the rest of the league, why they want to go
[43:50] Speaker 1: do this? Why in the world do they want to
[43:52] Speaker 1: put up with this? I don't know what anybody involved
[43:56] Speaker 1: is supposed to do here. Right. This is wild that
[44:00] Speaker 1: it's all played out that way.
[44:02] Speaker 3: Yeah.
[44:03] Speaker 1: But they better figure it out.
[44:04] Speaker 2: Because clearly some things are going on in that stadium,
[44:07] Speaker 2: and then clearly things are happening online as well.
[44:09] Speaker 1: And you not just go tell these people they wrong. They, oh, well,
[44:14] Speaker 1: since you put it like that, I'll change my whole season.
[44:16] Speaker 1: That's not going to work. That's not it. And this
[44:19] Speaker 1: whole league has really got to figure out what to
[44:22] Speaker 1: do with that because the vibes are bad, man. Like
[44:25] Speaker 1: now they're at a place, and people talk about this,
[44:28] Speaker 1: that's a win for them, is now it'll be a
[44:29] Speaker 1: lot more about basketball. Right, like- But is it? Well,
[44:34] Speaker 1: because the fever are out. Like, you shouldn't have a
[44:38] Speaker 1: situation where many of your diehard fans as a league
[44:42] Speaker 1: find it relieving when one of your up-and-coming stars is
[44:46] Speaker 1: out of there. Because right now, as far as it
[44:48] Speaker 1: relates to Clark, this is part of the story. This
[44:52] Speaker 1: is the climb that everybody goes through. You're not good
[44:57] Speaker 1: enough right now. Your team's not good enough right now.
[45:00] Speaker 1: They came up short and didn't shoot well enough and
[45:03] Speaker 1: didn't play good enough defense. That's what people were telling
[45:05] Speaker 1: me about when they got put out of there. You're
[45:08] Speaker 1: supposed to be doing the shooting, and we know you
[45:10] Speaker 1: don't come up on the defense. This is the climb.
[45:13] Speaker 1: You're supposed to go into some tunnel or wherever it
[45:15] Speaker 1: is and grind it out and come back.
[45:16] Speaker 2: Like Wimby is supposed to be doing right now.
[45:18] Speaker 1: Exactly. I saw that dude tackling a– a tackling dummy.
[45:22] Speaker 1: No lie.
[45:23] Speaker 2: Yeah, I saw that too.
[45:24] Speaker 1: No lie. He mad. He mad.
[45:26] Speaker 2: You can barely tell he's lowering his shoulder because his
[45:28] Speaker 2: shoulder says that.
[45:29] Speaker 1: That is correct. That is correct. But he gave it
[45:31] Speaker 1: his best, right? But no, man. This is– I don't
[45:36] Speaker 1: know what anybody involved here is supposed to do because–
[45:40] Speaker 1: The women of the WNBA should not back off of
[45:43] Speaker 1: what their truth is, right? But I ask this question,
[45:48] Speaker 1: and I'm asking it somewhat rhetorically. Ron, I don't want
[45:51] Speaker 1: to put you on the spot because I don't know
[45:52] Speaker 1: how close you follow this. That situation that happened with
[45:55] Speaker 1: Asia Wilson, does that happen in any other building? Like,
[45:58] Speaker 1: does she have that reaction in any other building? Because
[46:03] Speaker 1: let's get to an uncomfortable truth here. Where Sophie Cunningham
[46:06] Speaker 1: said they didn't suspend her because she's LeBron James of
[46:08] Speaker 1: the league. I don't know why people are acting like
[46:11] Speaker 1: there's nothing to that. Especially post-2004, you don't get to
[46:19] Speaker 1: run up on the customers that close. You just don't.
[46:23] Speaker 1: I once saw Antonio Davis get suspended for going in
[46:25] Speaker 1: the crowd to get his wife out. We have decided
[46:29] Speaker 1: that's something.
[46:29] Speaker 2: Can't do it.
[46:30] Speaker 1: You can't do it. We've made that decision that that
[46:32] Speaker 1: is something that you cannot do. She did that, and
[46:34] Speaker 1: they did nothing. Nothing. So that means one or two
[46:38] Speaker 1: things is true or maybe some combination of them. One,
[46:41] Speaker 1: that is the best player in the league and you
[46:44] Speaker 1: don't want to have her out for a game three
[46:47] Speaker 1: in a best of three series under those circumstances, which
[46:50] Speaker 1: would be understandable. Or number two, despite the fact that
[46:55] Speaker 1: your investigation said that there was no violation of the
[46:59] Speaker 1: code of conduct, you felt like something was kind of
[47:03] Speaker 1: a violation of the code of conduct, right? But either way,
[47:07] Speaker 1: You made a call to let that slide, that you
[47:09] Speaker 1: did not have to. You could say that part with
[47:12] Speaker 1: no judgment. If they had decided to suspend her, I
[47:14] Speaker 1: don't think there would have been much leg to stand up.
[47:16] Speaker 1: Or just a fine.
[47:17] Speaker 4: Right.
[47:18] Speaker 1: They could have done, they chose nothing. Because I don't
[47:22] Speaker 1: think they have any idea what to do. But they
[47:24] Speaker 1: need to ask themselves, what is it about that building
[47:27] Speaker 1: and that team and the people around it? And I
[47:30] Speaker 1: don't say that rhetorically. Like, they need to get to
[47:32] Speaker 1: the bottom of it. Because otherwise, this is ratcheting up.
[47:36] Speaker 1: You got a while before next season comes, but all
[47:38] Speaker 1: the feelings that surround this aren't going anywhere. In fact,
[47:40] Speaker 1: they're only going to get stronger. And so you're going
[47:42] Speaker 1: to have a game next year where the Aces come
[47:44] Speaker 1: play the Fever. What's going to happen? They're going to try.
[47:46] Speaker 1: They're going to boo her into the ground. And it's
[47:49] Speaker 1: going to be whatever that environment is now is going
[47:51] Speaker 1: to wind up being worse. And that's going to be
[47:53] Speaker 1: the thing that's on TV. And it's going to be
[47:55] Speaker 1: just like this, where we talk about everything except basketball.
[48:00] Speaker 2: All right, also over the weekend, John Gruden showed up
[48:02] Speaker 2: at a Trump rally for an Ohio senator. He said, quote,
[48:06] Speaker 2: I'm from Ohio. My mom and dad are from Cleveland.
[48:08] Speaker 2: I was born in Sandusky, and I'm damn proud of it. Bo, you...
[48:14] Speaker 2: What do you what do you make of John Gruden
[48:16] Speaker 2: showing up here?
[48:16] Speaker 1: That man was so happy to be somewhere that people
[48:21] Speaker 1: were happy to see him. Like, do we know where
[48:24] Speaker 1: he lives? Like, does he still live in Tampa?
[48:26] Speaker 2: I think he's down in Florida.
[48:27] Speaker 1: He looked in that room. I've been here. Ryan, I
[48:34] Speaker 1: don't know if you've had any situation like this, but
[48:37] Speaker 1: I imagine it may have happened at some point because
[48:39] Speaker 1: white people don't talk about it when it happens to them.
[48:41] Speaker 1: But there's nothing quite like what you like. Like when
[48:43] Speaker 1: I went to graduate school in California, I went to
[48:45] Speaker 1: a little town, a graduate school in a little town
[48:47] Speaker 1: called Claremont. You can look up the demographics of Claremont.
[48:52] Speaker 1: John Gruden looked like I did when I would get
[48:55] Speaker 1: back to Atlanta. Oh, my God. I don't have to
[49:00] Speaker 1: explain anything. Right. Every old of my people. Me and
[49:04] Speaker 1: they me and they. Oh, don't say that to John Gruden.
[49:07] Speaker 1: He might have a conniption. But anyway, John Gruden was
[49:11] Speaker 1: so ramped up giving that speech in there. And I
[49:14] Speaker 1: don't know how much any of them actually cared, but
[49:16] Speaker 1: he was so excited to be in that vast. sea
[49:21] Speaker 1: of Republican-ness.
[49:22] Speaker 2: Yes.
[49:22] Speaker 1: Right. He's he still think he just go come back
[49:26] Speaker 1: without having to say anything about anything.
[49:29] Speaker 2: And not only that, he wasn't even a good coach.
[49:35] Speaker 1: John Gruden's last playoff win was in January of 2003,
[49:39] Speaker 1: the Super Bowl. That was the last playoff win that
[49:45] Speaker 1: he had.
[49:46] Speaker 2: Speaking of a sea of Republican-ness, Vivek Swamy was there,
[49:52] Speaker 2: and you pointed out something to me that happened that
[49:55] Speaker 2: you wanted to bring up.
[49:56] Speaker 1: Okay. We've got to get our tech up so we
[50:00] Speaker 1: can share people's videos of this. So Vivek Ramaswani. Didn't
[50:07] Speaker 1: he run for president?
[50:08] Speaker 2: He did run for president.
[50:09] Speaker 1: Okay. He ran for president a little bit. He went
[50:14] Speaker 1: to Harvard. Pablo refers to him very stridently as a dork.
[50:22] Speaker 1: So Vivek is running for governor of Ohio against hashtag
[50:27] Speaker 1: white charade. Is charade a charade?
[50:30] Speaker 2: I believe it's Chirag.
[50:31] Speaker 1: I mean, it's Chirag to me. Right? But anyway, he's
[50:35] Speaker 1: running for governor. He has the Republican nomination. Indian cat.
[50:40] Speaker 1: And He's up there at the dais. And I don't,
[50:45] Speaker 1: why was that kid up there?
[50:47] Speaker 3: I'm not sure.
[50:47] Speaker 1: So there's some kid on the stage. And the kid
[50:50] Speaker 1: looked like he had to be like seven or so.
[50:53] Speaker 2: I would say, yes, between seven and nine.
[50:55] Speaker 1: Yeah, right, somewhere in seven and nine. And it looked
[50:58] Speaker 1: like the vet got the bright idea to like let
[51:01] Speaker 1: the little homie say something on the microphone. But the
[51:03] Speaker 1: microphone was up too high. And so he's like, no problem.
[51:07] Speaker 1: I'll pick you up. And he went to go pick
[51:10] Speaker 1: that kid up. And I want to be fair to Vivek.
[51:13] Speaker 1: He bent his knees. He did everything that he was
[51:16] Speaker 1: supposed to do.
[51:16] Speaker 2: He braced his core.
[51:17] Speaker 1: He did. He engaged his core. That is exactly what
[51:20] Speaker 1: he did. And apparently that little boy has swallowed a
[51:23] Speaker 1: brick because he went to go pick him up. And, oh,
[51:26] Speaker 1: he couldn't get him up. And he kept trying.
[51:29] Speaker 5: Right, Lazy?
[51:29] Speaker 1: He kept going. But the kids got on like a shirt.
[51:31] Speaker 1: So he started sliding. And he couldn't get him all
[51:34] Speaker 1: the way up. And he goes, oh, big guy.
[51:37] Speaker 6: Right?
[51:38] Speaker 1: And the thing he didn't get was, what he needed
[51:41] Speaker 1: to do was, he needed to start low, and then
[51:44] Speaker 1: once he realized it was going to take too much,
[51:46] Speaker 1: he'd stop and be like, whoa, big fella, you're going
[51:49] Speaker 1: to have to wait.
[51:49] Speaker 6: Yeah.
[51:50] Speaker 5: Right?
[51:50] Speaker 1: Like, he needed to make a joke about it right there.
[51:52] Speaker 1: But instead, no. He tried to power through. It was
[51:55] Speaker 1: like his girl was watching, and he was ashamed. He
[51:58] Speaker 1: tried to power through, and he.
[52:01] Speaker 1: That's the kind of shit that loses elections. You need
[52:04] Speaker 1: to understand that. What was it, Michael Dukakis with the joint?
[52:07] Speaker 2: The Howard Dean stream.
[52:10] Speaker 1: Never heard of Howard Dean again. I ain't heard that
[52:12] Speaker 1: man say a word. I know he had other jobs.
[52:13] Speaker 1: I ain't seen him. They put that man in front
[52:15] Speaker 1: of a camera. He was on top going into that primary,
[52:19] Speaker 1: and all he did was get excited. This dude right
[52:22] Speaker 1: here looked like half a man. It was so bad
[52:25] Speaker 1: that the next day, his account put up on Twitter
[52:27] Speaker 1: a picture of him holding his son with the caption,
[52:31] Speaker 1: happy eight-month anniversary, because he needed to show us holding
[52:35] Speaker 1: a child. Sir, that was a baby. You could not
[52:40] Speaker 1: pick up that child. It's okay. That boy looked heavy.
[52:44] Speaker 1: You just didn't, you don't know your limitations. That's not
[52:48] Speaker 1: a good look for a politician. That boy, I'm surprised
[52:52] Speaker 1: that boy, White Sherrod, ain't pulled up somewhere with like
[52:55] Speaker 1: a kid on his back.
[52:57] Speaker 2: And one in each arm.
[52:58] Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, yeah, right? Or just in the gym. Just don't,
[53:01] Speaker 1: like that's what Vivek needed to do. Vivek needed to
[53:03] Speaker 1: show that he was just throwing it up, right? Getting
[53:05] Speaker 1: ready for the next time. He learned his lesson from
[53:07] Speaker 1: this happening to him.
[53:09] Speaker 2: All right, and finally, there is an online trend of
[53:12] Speaker 2: people showing their nine most important albums to them. Bo,
[53:16] Speaker 2: you posted yours. I wanted to give you the opportunity
[53:19] Speaker 2: to discuss it now.
[53:21] Speaker 1: Sure. Though I did see after I posted this that
[53:24] Speaker 1: somebody said, we've had enough of your music takes. And,
[53:30] Speaker 1: you know, just some things that I can't say to women.
[53:32] Speaker 1: So anyway... These are the nine I did. Now, I
[53:37] Speaker 1: needed people to understand that the nine I did were
[53:41] Speaker 1: not my nine favorite, per se. They were albums that
[53:45] Speaker 1: had different roles at different places in my life, right?
[53:49] Speaker 1: So the first one was Bill Withers Live at Carnegie
[53:53] Speaker 1: Hall because that is the Jones Family Road Trip staple. Oh, interesting. Yeah,
[53:57] Speaker 1: if I had to associate an album with my dad
[53:59] Speaker 1: or with family, it's that one. Anytime we're on a
[54:02] Speaker 1: road trip and it's time to bring it in, The
[54:04] Speaker 1: song with a whole stretch is the Heart of Cold
[54:07] Speaker 1: Bologna version on that record. So that's how that got
[54:10] Speaker 1: on there. I had Tribe Called Quest, Midnight Marauders, because
[54:13] Speaker 1: as I recall, that is the first album that I
[54:16] Speaker 1: bought with my own money, you know? And it's also,
[54:20] Speaker 1: it is a banger. Outkast, Southern Playlist, Cadillac Music, because
[54:24] Speaker 1: that was the first album I'd ever heard of and
[54:26] Speaker 1: was like, oh, this feels like relatable content. And the
[54:29] Speaker 1: reason it felt like relatable content was The Houston that
[54:32] Speaker 1: people rapped about at that time was not the Houston
[54:35] Speaker 1: that I lived in. That's not a class thing. That's
[54:37] Speaker 1: a geography thing. Southside and Fifth Ward is basically where
[54:42] Speaker 1: all this is coming out of. Places I never had
[54:43] Speaker 1: very much reason to ever be. The parts of Atlanta
[54:46] Speaker 1: that these cats were talking about, I knew. I heard
[54:49] Speaker 1: streets and things that I was aware of on there.
[54:52] Speaker 1: And I was like, oh, okay. And it bangs. Only
[54:56] Speaker 1: built for Cuban links just because it jams. Side of
[55:00] Speaker 1: the Times, because that's the first Prince album that I really,
[55:05] Speaker 1: really super deeply explored on my own. I remember when
[55:09] Speaker 1: I bought it, I think I was in 12th grade
[55:10] Speaker 1: or something like that. And that was the first one
[55:12] Speaker 1: that myself, I really, really got to. And I was like, okay,
[55:15] Speaker 1: now I get it. It Takes a Nation of Millions
[55:18] Speaker 1: to Hold Us Back. I remember when I was a
[55:22] Speaker 1: freshman in college, the source put out their 100th issue.
[55:27] Speaker 1: And in their 100th issue, they had lists of the
[55:29] Speaker 1: top 100 albums, top 100 singles, and they did voting
[55:33] Speaker 1: on what the best of everything was in a time
[55:35] Speaker 1: that people had forgotten. The number one album of all
[55:38] Speaker 1: time there and in many other places was It Takes
[55:40] Speaker 1: a Nation of Millions to Hold Us Back. And so
[55:42] Speaker 1: I remember after I'd seen that, And my brother used
[55:44] Speaker 1: to jam it a lot, but I didn't pay that
[55:46] Speaker 1: much attention. After I'd seen that, I remember I went
[55:48] Speaker 1: to the record store and I saw the CD and
[55:50] Speaker 1: I picked it up. And I will just never forget
[55:53] Speaker 1: running brain to noise. And when he hit that never
[55:55] Speaker 1: badder than bad because a brother is madder than mad
[55:57] Speaker 1: at the fact that's so corrupt like a senator's soul
[55:59] Speaker 1: on a rope. But you treat it like soap on
[56:01] Speaker 1: a rope because the beats and the lines are so dope.
[56:03] Speaker 1: And I was like, oh, that's what you guys were
[56:06] Speaker 1: talking about. So we got that. Uh, burning by the whalers.
[56:11] Speaker 1: That is, I put that there because I would never
[56:14] Speaker 1: put legend here because I'm not that kind of guy. However,
[56:17] Speaker 1: I admit we listened to a lot of legend on
[56:19] Speaker 1: road trips also, but burning is the tracks on burn.
[56:23] Speaker 1: I just remember my dad had burning on the tape too.
[56:25] Speaker 1: Like the tracks on burner, the ones that jumped out
[56:27] Speaker 1: is like my intro and Bob stuff. Juvenile 400 Degrees,
[56:31] Speaker 1: because that album, more than any other, expanded me as
[56:35] Speaker 1: a more open-minded person in terms of what I could
[56:40] Speaker 1: and could not say was dope for whatever reason it was.
[56:42] Speaker 1: Because I remember the first time I saw that Ha
[56:44] Speaker 1: video and them dudes with them gold teeth and everything else,
[56:47] Speaker 1: and it sounded like he was mumbling. I'm like, what?
[56:48] Speaker 1: what are we talking about here? Like, is this what
[56:50] Speaker 1: we're really doing? I ran that album. It was like,
[56:52] Speaker 1: this is the most incredible thing I have ever heard.
[56:54] Speaker 1: And these dudes is rapping, right? So like my very
[56:57] Speaker 1: heavy East Coast lean and sensibilities at that time, it
[57:00] Speaker 1: wasn't like there was no Southern records that I was into,
[57:03] Speaker 1: but it put me in a place to have to
[57:04] Speaker 1: actually do some revisiting on some of them and be like, okay,
[57:07] Speaker 1: you might've been being a hater. And David Bowie, The
[57:12] Speaker 1: Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and The Spiders from Mars,
[57:14] Speaker 1: because that's the first Bowie album I really got into.
[57:17] Speaker 1: It's not the best one, but I still think it's
[57:19] Speaker 1: really interesting. And I still remember getting toward the end
[57:23] Speaker 1: of Moon Age Daydream and being like, oh, that's what's
[57:26] Speaker 1: going on here. Gotcha. So I could do another nine.
[57:31] Speaker 1: I could do nine more. I could do nine on
[57:33] Speaker 1: themes or whatever it is. But that was how I
[57:35] Speaker 1: picked that nine. And number 10 would have been Babyface,
[57:37] Speaker 1: Tend to Love Her. But I just only had nine spaces.
[57:40] Speaker 1: I just couldn't find a way to work it.
[57:46] Speaker 2: All right, Bo, let's get to voicemails. Speaking of babyface.
[57:50] Speaker 5: Hey, Bomani, this is Dylan from New York City. Loved
[57:53] Speaker 5: listening to you for a long time, so it's a
[57:55] Speaker 5: pleasure to connect. I've long really enjoyed your music takes
[58:01] Speaker 5: in addition to your sports stuff. You've helped get me
[58:04] Speaker 5: into Prince and the Isley Brothers and some really other
[58:06] Speaker 5: great artists. So I've been enjoying the discourse around Babyface.
[58:12] Speaker 2: I'm a little.
[58:12] Speaker 5: Agnostic about him in particular, but I was wondering if
[58:16] Speaker 5: there is a white songwriter equivalent to how you feel
[58:20] Speaker 5: about Babyface, someone who is either critically loved or popularly
[58:26] Speaker 5: loved that you just don't rock with. So would love
[58:31] Speaker 5: to hear your perspective on that. Thanks so much.
[58:34] Speaker 1: Okay, so songwriter, that's a little bit more difficult for
[58:40] Speaker 1: me to give you the direct analog to. But I
[58:44] Speaker 1: will tell you someone that is revered in his field,
[58:47] Speaker 1: similar to the way Babyface is revered as a songwriter,
[58:50] Speaker 1: that I don't find myself being nearly as excited about,
[58:53] Speaker 1: even though every now and then he hits the mark,
[58:55] Speaker 1: and that's Eric fucking Clapton. Eric Clapton as guitar player.
[59:01] Speaker 1: Not here for it. And it don't even have to
[59:03] Speaker 1: do with the xenophobia situation. He could have the same
[59:06] Speaker 1: politics as me and I would feel the same way.
[59:09] Speaker 1: I just don't. i don't feel it when he gets
[59:11] Speaker 1: to go and there's a whole gang of guitar players
[59:13] Speaker 1: that i throw out there that i find to be
[59:14] Speaker 1: more interesting Been listening to Eric Clapton. Again, that's not
[59:17] Speaker 1: to say he can't never hit it. That's not to
[59:20] Speaker 1: say the stuff with Cream is not good. He is,
[59:22] Speaker 1: to me, another case of you surround him with some Beast,
[59:25] Speaker 1: he'll do okay with the Beast. You ask him to
[59:27] Speaker 1: carry the Beast, nah.
[59:29] Speaker 6: No, not really.
[59:31] Speaker 1: That's not going to get you there. And people really
[59:35] Speaker 1: like that wonderful Tonight song. That's some babyface shit right there,
[59:38] Speaker 1: if you want to be perfectly honest. Like that, that, that.
[59:42] Speaker 1: That right there. So, yeah, a lot of people get
[59:44] Speaker 1: mad at me with the Eric Clapton one, too. Yeah,
[59:47] Speaker 1: that's the best one I'll give you.
[59:49] Speaker 2: All right, here's our next one.
[59:52] Speaker 5: What's up, Bo?
[59:53] Speaker 2: This is your boy Ant from the DMV.
[59:58] Speaker 7: I was first by being born into a family that
[1:00:02] Speaker 7: loved the Miami Dolphins, even though we lived nowhere near Miami.
[1:00:08] Speaker 7: And it's been a long, long, long lifetime of disappointment.
[1:00:14] Speaker 4: The Tua, Tyreek, Daniels, Seasons, you know, got me living
[1:00:22] Speaker 4: a little bit. You know, I was excited about the future,
[1:00:25] Speaker 4: and then the collapse, it just brought me down, bro.
[1:00:30] Speaker 4: I don't think I have another rebuild in me. You know,
[1:00:33] Speaker 4: music don't sound as good. Sun don't shine as brightly.
[1:00:38] Speaker 4: Food doesn't taste as sweet. And my question to you
[1:00:42] Speaker 4: as someone that was successfully able to get off that
[1:00:45] Speaker 4: narcotic is should I just rip the band-aid off or
[1:00:50] Speaker 4: should I slowly just kind of pull away?
[1:00:53] Speaker 7: Because, like I said, I don't have another rebuild in me.
[1:00:57] Speaker 1: I don't know what to do.
[1:00:58] Speaker 2: So, please, help your boy out. By the way, babyface
[1:01:04] Speaker 2: is the man.
[1:01:05] Speaker 1: Later. All the people for y'all to ride for. Ride for. Anyway,
[1:01:18] Speaker 1: the Dolphins. The thing about the Dolphins that's easy to
[1:01:22] Speaker 1: forget is that from 1971 to 1984, they went to
[1:01:30] Speaker 1: the Super Bowl five times. They had, I want to say,
[1:01:35] Speaker 1: three quarterbacks who won MVP or at least first-team All-Pro.
[1:01:41] Speaker 1: And then they just been whatever. Like they are not,
[1:01:45] Speaker 1: the difference between the Dolphins and the Raiders is scant.
[1:01:49] Speaker 1: The Raiders have won a Super.
[1:01:52] Speaker 2: Bowl suit and the Dolphins have.
[1:01:54] Speaker 1: The difference is, though, the worst of the Raiders has
[1:01:57] Speaker 1: been worse than the worst of the Dolphins and has
[1:02:00] Speaker 1: been more of a consistent bottom. But they are teams
[1:02:02] Speaker 1: that were venerable franchises that you're of a certain age
[1:02:05] Speaker 1: and you have no idea that this was the case, right?
[1:02:11] Speaker 1: So what you need to do is.
[1:02:15] Speaker 1: Yeah, just stop. Like you can make the decision. Just stop.
[1:02:19] Speaker 1: Take some what you need to do. It took me
[1:02:21] Speaker 1: a while before I found the right one. Just take
[1:02:23] Speaker 1: some time and look around. Date some teams. And if
[1:02:27] Speaker 1: somebody really kind of jumps out to you like something
[1:02:28] Speaker 1: they got going, go ahead and like see what it
[1:02:31] Speaker 1: is that they got for you. And I'm going to
[1:02:32] Speaker 1: tell you now it's going to come with some ups
[1:02:33] Speaker 1: and downs. Like right now, not happy with my choices,
[1:02:37] Speaker 1: but I'm there and I'm going to stick with it.
[1:02:38] Speaker 1: And you can do the same.
[1:02:40] Speaker 2: But my Jones fan rehab is.
[1:02:42] Speaker 1: We need to start this. We need to start. I
[1:02:43] Speaker 1: tell you, I bet if we could, like, set up
[1:02:46] Speaker 1: a one-day workshop, I bet we could do it. Man,
[1:02:50] Speaker 1: if Game Theory was still on, that would be an
[1:02:52] Speaker 1: amazing field sketch.
[1:02:53] Speaker 2: Yes.
[1:02:54] Speaker 1: Just how to quit your team.
[1:02:55] Speaker 2: All right, here's our last one.
[1:02:58] Speaker 3: Hey, this is Jake in Durham.
[1:03:00] Speaker 2: Love the show.
[1:03:01] Speaker 3: Been a big fan for years. One of my favorite
[1:03:04] Speaker 3: things is where people call in and tell the stories
[1:03:07] Speaker 3: about the... the white people that have names that you're
[1:03:11] Speaker 3: surprised they're white. And you and Dominique were talking about
[1:03:16] Speaker 3: Liam Cohen, and I got wondering, I've never heard of
[1:03:20] Speaker 3: a black Liam before. And I've heard of a lot
[1:03:23] Speaker 3: of Liams. And so just to make sure, I searched,
[1:03:26] Speaker 3: and Liam was apparently the most popular boy's name. But
[1:03:30] Speaker 3: all the Liams I can think of, Gallagher, Nielsen, Cohen,
[1:03:35] Speaker 3: they're white. But I'm pretty white myself. So Have you
[1:03:40] Speaker 3: ever heard of a black Liam? I'll hang up and listen.
[1:03:44] Speaker 3: Have a good one.
[1:03:46] Speaker 1: No, I haven't heard of a black Liam, but it's
[1:03:48] Speaker 1: only a matter of time. There's a whole run there
[1:03:50] Speaker 1: that started really like in like the mid 2000s. where
[1:03:53] Speaker 1: black people started giving their kids these clueless-ass names, like,
[1:03:57] Speaker 1: trying to white it up a little bit, like they're
[1:03:59] Speaker 1: not going to have to go in for that job
[1:04:00] Speaker 1: interview eventually. You know what I mean? But ain't no
[1:04:03] Speaker 1: white people ever did that we ain't going to find
[1:04:05] Speaker 1: no way to adopt or throw into our shit at
[1:04:07] Speaker 1: some point or some fashion. So I have not met that.
[1:04:10] Speaker 1: It was a long time, by the way, before I
[1:04:12] Speaker 1: realized that Liam was short for William. I did not
[1:04:14] Speaker 1: realize that until sometime in the last, like, two or
[1:04:17] Speaker 1: three years. You know? I will say this, though.
[1:04:20] Speaker 3: Um.
[1:04:21] Speaker 1: There hasn't been like, I guess Liam Neeson is the
[1:04:23] Speaker 1: only one, but like a Liam that was cool enough
[1:04:25] Speaker 1: to like really cross over to where we might want
[1:04:28] Speaker 1: to jump on that. Like Liam Gallagher. Not that guy. No, no, no.
[1:04:31] Speaker 1: In fact, he's the opposite. In fact, if Liam Gallagher
[1:04:34] Speaker 1: comes over here, we gonna fuck him up. We heard
[1:04:37] Speaker 1: what he'd been saying, you know. But ladies and gentlemen.
