Bomani Jones reacts to a wild NBA playoff weekend, from James Harden somehow escaping slander despite a rough stat line to the Knicks, Cavaliers, and the fascinating Donovan Mitchell vs. Jalen Brunson subplot. Bo also breaks down why Karl-Anthony Towns may be quietly changing the Knicks’ ceiling, and why one bad game could flip the conversation all over again. Then, Bomani turns to the matchup he’s been waiting for all year: Victor Wembanyama and the Spurs against Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and the defending champion Thunder. Bo explains why Wemby’s defensive dominance already feels historic, why the MVP presentation could add even more juice to the series, and why OKC’s style of play gets under his skin. Plus, Bomani discusses Aaron Rodgers signing with the Steelers, Waffle House workers rallying for better pay and safer working conditions, the fake-feeling internet age of stealth marketing campaigns, and listener voicemails. [0:09] Speaker 1: Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to The Right Time, presented by
[0:12] Speaker 1: FanDuel Predicts. My name is Beaumont Jones. Thanks for listening
[0:16] Speaker 1: wherever you get your podcasts. Thanks for watching us on YouTube. Subscribe, like,
[0:20] Speaker 1: rate us, review us, give us five stars. You only
[0:22] Speaker 1: give us four stars. I'm inclined to believe you are
[0:25] Speaker 1: a hater. We will talk about the most exciting playoff
[0:29] Speaker 1: series in my recent memory in just a few. First,
[0:32] Speaker 1: we got a lot like it was a very, very
[0:35] Speaker 1: interesting weekend of NBA basketball. I want to say, James Harden,
[0:43] Speaker 1: you did your part. You really, really did your part.
[0:49] Speaker 1: And your teammates prevented you from doing your part. Now, obviously,
[0:53] Speaker 1: I'm not talking about doing your part to help your
[0:56] Speaker 1: team make it to the Eastern Conference finals. Like, obviously,
[1:00] Speaker 1: your teammates did their part to help get to the
[1:02] Speaker 1: Eastern Conference finals. And, you know, you did what you do.
[1:05] Speaker 1: I'm talking about your part for us. You know what
[1:09] Speaker 1: I'm saying? People I hear that do TV shows and stuff. Sometimes,
[1:13] Speaker 1: if we can, me and Ryan like to record the
[1:16] Speaker 1: show on Sunday night. It makes it easier for people
[1:18] Speaker 1: to package it, produce it, turn it back around. But
[1:20] Speaker 1: if there's something important that's going on on Sunday night,
[1:23] Speaker 1: then we can't do it. And then we get up
[1:25] Speaker 1: Monday morning, and then we do the show. And so
[1:27] Speaker 1: we had this game at... 7, 8 o'clock, whatever time
[1:30] Speaker 1: it came on last night, and we was like, damn, nah,
[1:33] Speaker 1: we gonna need to wait until the morning in order
[1:35] Speaker 1: to record, but I'm gonna be perfectly honest with you.
[1:37] Speaker 1: If we knew that the Cavs was just gonna whoop
[1:40] Speaker 1: the Pistons' ass, we'd have recorded last night and then
[1:42] Speaker 1: got up and been like, oh, the Cavs beat the Pistons' ass,
[1:45] Speaker 1: because the truth is, y'all don't really care about that.
[1:48] Speaker 1: You know what I mean? Like, it dawned on me
[1:51] Speaker 1: after the game. I was like, oh, damn. Donovan Mitchell
[1:54] Speaker 1: finally got himself to the conference finals. Like, he has
[1:57] Speaker 1: managed to live his whole NBA career in places that
[2:01] Speaker 1: we don't really care about that much. Like, we cared
[2:03] Speaker 1: about LeBron in Cleveland, but we don't care about, like, Cleveland, Cleveland.
[2:07] Speaker 1: You know, nobody looks at Brad Doherty and is like, damn,
[2:10] Speaker 1: number one pick and you never got to the finals, right?
[2:13] Speaker 1: We just don't care that much about what's going on
[2:16] Speaker 1: over there. And I guess it's a very similar situation
[2:19] Speaker 1: with the Pistons. Either way it goes. If they win
[2:22] Speaker 1: that game by 30 points, that means it's not even
[2:25] Speaker 1: really an exciting game. Ain't nobody really waking up in
[2:28] Speaker 1: the morning like, oh, damn, did you watch the game
[2:30] Speaker 1: last night? Because I probably turned that shit off about 9.30.
[2:32] Speaker 1: You know what I'm saying? Like, that don't really feed
[2:36] Speaker 1: our beast the same way. Although, shout out to you,
[2:39] Speaker 1: Donovan Mitchell. Way to finally get to the conference finals.
[2:45] Speaker 1: But Jim Horton doing something like going two for 10
[2:49] Speaker 1: with only nine points. Ordinarily, Ryan, we could get a
[2:53] Speaker 1: half hour worth of content off of that shit. Instead, no,
[2:56] Speaker 1: they won by 30 points.
[2:57] Speaker 2: Easy. Easy half hour.
[2:59] Speaker 1: Right, right. Like, he did what he was supposed to do.
[3:05] Speaker 1: And it was going to justify our decision to adjust
[3:09] Speaker 1: what we would prefer to do as a recording strategy.
[3:13] Speaker 1: I just want to tell him, I don't want him
[3:15] Speaker 1: to think that I don't notice anything. That he did
[3:19] Speaker 1: his part for everybody else. Because, I mean, let's be
[3:23] Speaker 1: real about it at this point. Especially now that he
[3:25] Speaker 1: done fell out with Daryl Morey. Don't nobody really want
[3:29] Speaker 1: to see James Harden do good except for James Harden.
[3:36] Speaker 1: I don't wish ill upon him.
[3:38] Speaker 3: Correct.
[3:38] Speaker 1: I don't want him to fail. I just have absolutely
[3:43] Speaker 1: nothing to gain from him overcoming his shit.
[3:46] Speaker 3: Right.
[3:47] Speaker 1: Him staying the same buddy.
[3:50] Speaker 4: Yeah.
[3:52] Speaker 1: That's excellence for us. Him getting it one time, it
[3:56] Speaker 1: don't change what has happened the whole time. You understand
[3:59] Speaker 1: what I'm saying? Like, it doesn't actually alter. People are like, well,
[4:02] Speaker 1: would this change what you think of him? Doing this
[4:05] Speaker 1: shit one time would change what I've been thinking for
[4:07] Speaker 1: 17 years? Is that what you're asking me? No, not really.
[4:11] Speaker 1: Not really.
[4:12] Speaker 2: Instead.
[4:14] Speaker 1: I was up here like, shit, what are we going
[4:15] Speaker 1: to talk about? Because it was such a blowout, right?
[4:18] Speaker 1: Maybe that's what it is. I didn't think they had
[4:20] Speaker 1: it in them. I thought that the Pistons had blown
[4:23] Speaker 1: that series with that indefensible collapse that they had at
[4:27] Speaker 1: the end of Game 5.
[4:28] Speaker 4: Right?
[4:29] Speaker 1: I was just like, oh, wow, this is over. And then...
[4:32] Speaker 1: calves calved and they went out there and lost that
[4:34] Speaker 1: game at home and so i thought detroit was gonna
[4:37] Speaker 1: come in here make it happen and then detroit new
[4:39] Speaker 1: york would have been a very divinity goodwill invitational right
[4:42] Speaker 1: as i like to call that that would have been
[4:43] Speaker 1: a very very very interesting series for a number of
[4:47] Speaker 1: reasons right and all the calves calves got up i
[4:51] Speaker 1: was talking to the homie jason and he wasn't able
[4:53] Speaker 1: to catch the game and uh Yeah, he saw Harden
[4:56] Speaker 1: wasn't playing well. I was like, yeah, but they whooping
[5:00] Speaker 1: that ass. And he said, well, who's doing all the scoring?
[5:04] Speaker 1: And I said, everybody else. And then sent him a
[5:08] Speaker 1: snapshot of the box score at the moment, which was
[5:11] Speaker 1: basically everybody else getting buckets. Even Sam Merrill, whom.
[5:21] Speaker 1: Is it possible that his daddy is somebody, his family
[5:24] Speaker 1: was like the Merrill for Merrill Lynch?
[5:26] Speaker 2: Or maybe those are different Merrills.
[5:29] Speaker 1: Yeah, or is Merrill, no, no, it's the same spelling.
[5:31] Speaker 2: Oh, really? I thought it was a one R, two
[5:33] Speaker 2: R situation.
[5:34] Speaker 1: Well, it's the same spelling. The question is whether or
[5:37] Speaker 1: not Merrill Lynch was a person or it was two
[5:39] Speaker 1: of them.
[5:39] Speaker 2: Yes, or Merrill and Lynch.
[5:41] Speaker 1: Yes, yes, yes. Like it was like, I don't really
[5:43] Speaker 1: have the answer for that. But you can never be
[5:45] Speaker 1: sure with athletic white boys, right?
[5:47] Speaker 3: Right.
[5:47] Speaker 1: Athletic black people, you'd be assuming they came from the
[5:50] Speaker 1: hardest scrabble of environments. Athletic white boys be like David Duvall,
[5:55] Speaker 1: like Duvall County. They'd be going back all kinds of places.
[6:00] Speaker 1: You'd be like, damn, okay, right? But anyway, good for them.
[6:06] Speaker 1: They made that happen. I don't really know what they
[6:08] Speaker 1: got for the Knicks, but I mean, look, here's my
[6:12] Speaker 1: question about the Knicks in that regard, Ron. I'm curious
[6:14] Speaker 1: what you think about this. They have been so dominant.
[6:18] Speaker 1: these last seven games that they've played, it didn't feel
[6:21] Speaker 1: like luck. It didn't feel like heat. It felt like
[6:24] Speaker 1: a really good team got really good.
[6:26] Speaker 2: Especially because they changed their style of play so much.
[6:29] Speaker 3: Yes.
[6:30] Speaker 1: But do we throw it all out the window if
[6:32] Speaker 1: they lose game one? Like, how much does it take?
[6:37] Speaker 2: Yeah, what it takes is Don Mitchell scoring 45 in
[6:40] Speaker 2: the garden. And yes, yes. And then we throw most
[6:43] Speaker 2: of it out.
[6:43] Speaker 1: Because look, there is that. That's a serious angle here.
[6:47] Speaker 1: The whole Donovan Mitchell-Knicks angle, right? Like, it is there.
[6:52] Speaker 1: But I think about this, and as good as the
[6:54] Speaker 1: Knicks have played, as well as this has rolled, something
[6:57] Speaker 1: I will never forget as long as I live, the
[6:59] Speaker 1: 2012 playoffs. The San Antonio Spurs, counting the regular season,
[7:05] Speaker 1: were up 2-0 against the Thunder in the Western Conference Finals,
[7:09] Speaker 1: and were on literally a 20-game winning streak. and lost
[7:16] Speaker 1: four in a row because the Thunder kept calling the
[7:20] Speaker 1: same play over and over again, that pin down, and
[7:24] Speaker 1: the Spurs couldn't do nothing with it because it was Westbrook, Durant,
[7:27] Speaker 1: Harden deployed in positions that left you with no, what
[7:30] Speaker 1: are we supposed to do here, right? What does it take?
[7:34] Speaker 1: Because the Knicks fans are excited, right? But they're also
[7:38] Speaker 1: playing against the Cavaliers, right? The non-LeBron Cavaliers. It's kind
[7:43] Speaker 1: of like I was talking to a friend with the
[7:44] Speaker 1: Hawks and the Knicks were playing, and she was like,
[7:46] Speaker 1: how's the game going? And I was like, it's the
[7:47] Speaker 1: Hawks and the Knicks, so nobody really wants to win. Now,
[7:51] Speaker 1: these are teams that can taste it. We got the
[7:53] Speaker 1: other part, too. Ryan, you mentioned this before the show.
[7:57] Speaker 1: I'm pretty axiomatic about the limitations of small guards. This
[8:01] Speaker 1: is small guard versus small guard, right? This is also
[8:05] Speaker 1: an element of Donovan Mitchell. Got to look at Jalen
[8:09] Speaker 1: Brunson like, how does it feel to be me that
[8:15] Speaker 1: was supposed to be Donovan Mitchell right like Jalen Brunson
[8:17] Speaker 1: really came in there and turned into what they would
[8:20] Speaker 1: hope Donovan Mitchell had been like at this point I
[8:22] Speaker 1: don't think Knicks fans would trade Jalen Brunson for Donovan
[8:25] Speaker 1: Mitchell but how many of the rest of us would.
[8:30] Speaker 2: I think that's interesting. I think it's right.
[8:31] Speaker 3: Yeah.
[8:32] Speaker 4: Right.
[8:32] Speaker 1: It's a fair, like which, who would you take at
[8:34] Speaker 1: this point? I mean, at what, at some point, Jalen
[8:36] Speaker 1: Brunson has to stop being where he was drafted. Right.
[8:38] Speaker 1: Like he has to stop being in our minds, what
[8:41] Speaker 1: he was when he came into the league. I mean,
[8:43] Speaker 1: Donovan Mitchell is not like, you know, we thought that
[8:45] Speaker 1: he was going, he was the number three pick in
[8:47] Speaker 1: the draft or anything like that. But I still think
[8:49] Speaker 1: that there's a way that we view Donovan Mitchell as
[8:51] Speaker 1: like having a superstar potential where I think we still
[8:54] Speaker 1: view Jalen Brunson as a bit of a yeoman, but,
[8:57] Speaker 1: They both 6'1, 6'2, guards.
[9:00] Speaker 2: Yeah, 6'2, max.
[9:01] Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, they're kind of the same. They have different games,
[9:04] Speaker 1: but they're kind of the same guy. Well, looks like
[9:07] Speaker 1: one of them is going to have to go to
[9:10] Speaker 1: the NBA finals, right? The Knicks should win it, obviously.
[9:16] Speaker 1: I mean, the big thing with the Knicks is Karl-Anthony
[9:18] Speaker 1: Towns and Mitchell Robinson are so much bigger than Evan
[9:21] Speaker 1: Mobley and Jared Allen.
[9:24] Speaker 2: Yeah, that's the weird series where Karl-Anthony Towns is the
[9:28] Speaker 2: big man, not the tall man.
[9:29] Speaker 1: Hey, man, I don't think anybody is redeeming himself quite
[9:35] Speaker 1: like Karl-Anthony Towns is in this. Because what I've been saying,
[9:40] Speaker 1: he has to be their best player for them to win, right?
[9:42] Speaker 1: And not just he has to play the best. He
[9:45] Speaker 1: has to be the Knicks best player for them to win.
[9:50] Speaker 1: And what has happened quietly, he has become their best player.
[9:55] Speaker 1: Like we're running the offense through him. He's the hub
[9:58] Speaker 1: of the offense. That's what you do with your best player, right?
[10:03] Speaker 1: Jalen Brunson can be treated as the guy that gets
[10:05] Speaker 1: the shots and everything else, da-da-da. They seem to have
[10:08] Speaker 1: figured out a way that allows room for both, right?
[10:12] Speaker 1: For Towns to be their best player in a capacity
[10:15] Speaker 1: that he seems to be able to live up to.
[10:18] Speaker 1: And let Jalen Brunson be a little close, you know,
[10:20] Speaker 1: just to what we think of Jalen Brunson as being, right?
[10:23] Speaker 1: But just as I say, will it only take one
[10:26] Speaker 1: bad game for you to jump off the bandwagon of
[10:28] Speaker 1: what the Knicks have been doing? There's also that with
[10:32] Speaker 1: our buddy Carl.
[10:33] Speaker 3: Yes.
[10:34] Speaker 1: You know? But, counterpoint, can Cavaliers do anything to make
[10:40] Speaker 1: Towns have to guard people? Because that's the shortcoming with him.
[10:42] Speaker 2: Right.
[10:42] Speaker 1: Like, primarily is like, weird defensive decisions. Can you make
[10:47] Speaker 1: him have to foul people? Can you make him?
[10:49] Speaker 2: Because he wants to.
[10:50] Speaker 3: Badly.
[10:52] Speaker 2: So badly.
[10:53] Speaker 1: Badly. But I mean, I imagine that what they do
[10:56] Speaker 1: is they have him guard Jared Allen, which means he
[10:58] Speaker 1: doesn't really have to do that much.
[10:59] Speaker 3: Right. Right.
[11:00] Speaker 1: But also, do you want to leave him as rim protector?
[11:03] Speaker 1: Because you don't want him necessarily doing that.
[11:05] Speaker 3: Right.
[11:05] Speaker 1: I mean, this is going to be an interesting one. Also,
[11:09] Speaker 1: Mike Brown fired twice by the Cleveland Cavaliers under circumstances
[11:13] Speaker 1: that weren't really that fair.
[11:15] Speaker 3: It's true.
[11:16] Speaker 2: I forgot about that. The Mike Brown redemption.
[11:19] Speaker 1: JB Biggerstaff, fired by the Cavaliers under circumstances that weren't
[11:23] Speaker 1: necessarily that fair. You know he wanted that one bad. Bad.
[11:27] Speaker 1: They just got their asses kicked.
[11:30] Speaker 4: Yeah.
[11:31] Speaker 1: But also, I want to say this to James Harden,
[11:32] Speaker 1: and I need him to understand this. Yes, while I
[11:36] Speaker 1: said that maybe I was over here for my own
[11:40] Speaker 1: selfish reasons, not hoping that he didn't play well, but
[11:45] Speaker 1: prepared to capitalize on the moment.
[11:47] Speaker 2: Right. The moment he did not capitalize on. We were
[11:51] Speaker 2: prepared to do that in his stead.
[11:52] Speaker 1: Yes, we were there. But again, he really did give
[11:54] Speaker 1: it a go. By the way, I read off those
[11:56] Speaker 1: stats for him and how poor they were. Do you
[11:59] Speaker 1: know what his plus minus was?
[12:01] Speaker 2: I saw it, yeah.
[12:02] Speaker 1: A plus 31. I saw. Okay. Guess he did something. Man,
[12:11] Speaker 1: we were so thirsty for mess. that they was mad
[12:14] Speaker 1: at the Ant-Man for acknowledging the obvious. Now, like, I
[12:18] Speaker 1: wasn't watching that game because I was doing a show
[12:20] Speaker 1: in Atlanta. Put a pin in that thought. I'm going
[12:22] Speaker 1: to tell you guys something about that a little later
[12:23] Speaker 1: in the show. I was doing a show in Atlanta.
[12:25] Speaker 1: I looked up, saw what the score was. The Spurs
[12:27] Speaker 1: decided that they were done fooling around with Minnesota, and
[12:30] Speaker 1: apparently Minnesota went as far as they went. And, well,
[12:35] Speaker 1: that next thing I'll wait to break out. However, I
[12:38] Speaker 1: heard about this. Anthony Edwards went with eight minutes left
[12:40] Speaker 1: in the game. dapped up the Spurs bench and then
[12:44] Speaker 1: sat down and Dirk Nowitzki and Udonis Haslam chastised him
[12:49] Speaker 1: and said that he showed poor leadership and showed weakness
[12:53] Speaker 1: in that moment and that you should never allow your
[12:55] Speaker 1: team to see you show weakness. Ryan, correct me if
[12:58] Speaker 1: I'm wrong, but wasn't Minnesota losing by 75 points?
[13:02] Speaker 2: Around there.
[13:04] Speaker 1: Like, it was over, right?
[13:06] Speaker 2: Where they were only in the situation because Anthony Edwards
[13:08] Speaker 2: dragged them there with a bum knee.
[13:10] Speaker 1: Yo, I mean, Edwards said, look, man, I wasn't going
[13:13] Speaker 1: back in the game. I did not think I was
[13:15] Speaker 1: going back in the game. And you know why Anthony
[13:16] Speaker 1: Edwards wasn't going back in the game? Because that shit
[13:19] Speaker 1: was over. What was the leadership that he was supposed
[13:22] Speaker 1: to show in that game that he wasn't going back into?
[13:25] Speaker 1: Was he supposed to be out there with Jack Haley
[13:27] Speaker 1: with the towel, mate, spinning like a helicopter? It was
[13:33] Speaker 1: obvious that game was over. I thought that he demonstrated, like,
[13:39] Speaker 1: I thought that was actually a standup sort of move.
[13:41] Speaker 1: Like the thing that, as I saw the, the criticism
[13:45] Speaker 1: from the players about that, the reason it struck me
[13:50] Speaker 1: was I am one of those people that like to
[13:54] Speaker 1: chastise the youth a little bit. You know what I mean?
[13:57] Speaker 4: Right.
[13:57] Speaker 1: You say it again. You, you, you just, but I'm
[14:02] Speaker 1: not really chastising them. I, chest ass and y'all and
[14:06] Speaker 1: by y'all i mean they parents like y'all are that
[14:08] Speaker 1: age now these are these are your kids okay yeah
[14:11] Speaker 1: right and a lot of this shit is your fault
[14:14] Speaker 1: and you know it okay but when i think about
[14:18] Speaker 1: what's you know what we're looking at these playoffs are
[14:20] Speaker 1: like who's left or whatever um i'm thinking about in
[14:23] Speaker 1: particular shea victor and anthony edwards I think one of
[14:29] Speaker 1: the coolest things the NBA has going for it as
[14:32] Speaker 1: it stands is that their young guys who are at
[14:35] Speaker 1: the top of the league also appear to be excellent leaders.
[14:39] Speaker 1: And not just excellent leaders, but guys who want to
[14:42] Speaker 1: take the responsibility and are willing to, right? Like, I
[14:46] Speaker 1: understand when people get mad at Stephen A. Smith where
[14:48] Speaker 1: he says that Kawhi Leonard is the worst example of
[14:50] Speaker 1: a superstar that this league has ever had. But I
[14:53] Speaker 1: get what he's saying and may even agree. Because the
[14:57] Speaker 1: one thing, Kawhi just want to hoop and go home
[14:59] Speaker 1: while also making all the money, while also showing up late, right?
[15:04] Speaker 1: While also, no, no, no. I respect these guys willing
[15:09] Speaker 1: to be the guy, right, and who understand this. Anthony Edwards,
[15:14] Speaker 1: he appears to be not just like some good leader,
[15:17] Speaker 1: a willing leader, an excellent leader, a guy who has
[15:20] Speaker 1: empowered dudes like Carl Anthony Towns, who has empowered Rudy Gobert,
[15:25] Speaker 1: who got to drag Eeyore around with this particular team.
[15:29] Speaker 1: Like when Nas Reed after the game was talking about,
[15:31] Speaker 1: you know, we got to be a little less moody.
[15:33] Speaker 1: Every Knicks fan knew exactly who he was talking about.
[15:36] Speaker 1: And he was talking about Julius Rand. And that's what
[15:38] Speaker 1: you asked Anthony Edwards. And dragged him through on one leg.
[15:42] Speaker 1: Got him to the conference finals two years in a
[15:44] Speaker 1: row with rosters that none of us think have any
[15:47] Speaker 1: chance of winning a championship.
[15:48] Speaker 2: Took down Jokic twice and LeBron.
[15:52] Speaker 1: Took down everybody. Took down Kevin Durant.
[15:53] Speaker 4: Yeah. Right?
[15:56] Speaker 1: He's the legend killer. He's gone through and taken all
[15:58] Speaker 1: these people down at all of these points. Hey, man,
[16:02] Speaker 1: they were going to lose the game. The game was over,
[16:06] Speaker 1: but we were so thirsty for some mess, right? Because
[16:09] Speaker 1: that's the thing about a blowout. There's nothing to talk about.
[16:12] Speaker 1: So thirsty for some mess that people were there making
[16:15] Speaker 1: an argument about how, no, man, I don't think that
[16:18] Speaker 1: he was, that that was demonstrating good leadership. My good friend,
[16:22] Speaker 1: Jamel Hill, she made the same point. And on one
[16:26] Speaker 1: of the apps, and LZ Granderson came over. I forget
[16:31] Speaker 1: what he said, something that kind of pushed back on it.
[16:33] Speaker 1: Jamel said that Ant-Man should have been on the bench. Oh,
[16:36] Speaker 1: he was talking about how Gobert and Randall didn't show up.
[16:41] Speaker 1: Jamel said he should have been on the bench, Cousin
[16:43] Speaker 1: Gobert and Randall out. I'm like, what, to get them
[16:45] Speaker 1: ready for a potential do or die game nine? Yes.
[16:49] Speaker 1: It was over. It's over. It was over. Let me
[16:54] Speaker 1: dap them up now so that when 5 o'clock come,
[16:57] Speaker 1: I can get right in my car and I can
[16:59] Speaker 1: go home.
[17:00] Speaker 2: Right.
[17:00] Speaker 1: That was dope. That dude has demonstrated leadership bona fides
[17:04] Speaker 1: in a way where rather than question him in that moment,
[17:07] Speaker 1: we should be just asking him. You know? Tell me,
[17:11] Speaker 1: how is it that you deal with these cats, right?
[17:14] Speaker 1: How did you guys go win that game one? against
[17:17] Speaker 1: San Antonio on the road with you on one leg, right?
[17:21] Speaker 1: He's like, my guys play better when I'm in here.
[17:24] Speaker 1: And knowing that, Chris Finch was like, take a load off, brother. Yeah.
[17:31] Speaker 1: No need to keep up this charade.
[17:33] Speaker 2: Yeah, it's over. What are we doing?
[17:36] Speaker 1: What are we doing? This is all it was. So, yeah,
[17:39] Speaker 1: we was ready for you, James Harden. We was so
[17:41] Speaker 1: hungry for you that we jumped on that before we
[17:43] Speaker 1: even got to it. Thank you. Thank you. But it
[17:48] Speaker 1: turned out that we had already eaten. We didn't have
[17:51] Speaker 1: what we need. But don't you worry. You get to
[17:53] Speaker 1: play against the New York Knicks. Plenty, plenty of time
[17:57] Speaker 1: for one of two things to happen. Him to completely
[17:59] Speaker 1: redeem himself. LOL. Or he's about to be on the
[18:06] Speaker 1: biggest stage. All right, Ryan. This is it. This is
[18:17] Speaker 1: the series. This is the one we've been waiting on
[18:19] Speaker 1: all year long, right? Like there was a point during
[18:22] Speaker 1: the season where we had a turn where we said
[18:24] Speaker 1: to ourselves, oh, wait a minute. No, San Antonio might
[18:29] Speaker 1: be this good, right? Like I don't think, I think
[18:33] Speaker 1: the majority of us thought next year would be the
[18:37] Speaker 1: more likely time that they began to make a leap
[18:39] Speaker 1: like this because they had not won a playoff series.
[18:42] Speaker 2: Especially when Wimby starts off the year Correct. Correct.
[18:46] Speaker 4: Right.
[18:46] Speaker 1: And we weren't exactly sure how that was going to go. Right.
[18:49] Speaker 1: But like, we got to think about this. For example,
[18:51] Speaker 1: the Shaq and Penny magic, they made it to the
[18:55] Speaker 1: NBA finals, their second year together in the playoffs. But
[19:00] Speaker 1: the first year they got swept in the first round.
[19:03] Speaker 1: You know, these things take steps. Like I was thinking
[19:05] Speaker 1: about that with respect to the Shaq and Kobe Lakers.
[19:09] Speaker 1: Like it's easy to forget that that was a long climb.
[19:11] Speaker 1: This is a different NBA, but I don't, I don't
[19:15] Speaker 1: think that I thought that this team was good enough
[19:18] Speaker 1: to get to the conference finals or to consistently be
[19:21] Speaker 1: a top two, top three seed. I didn't think they
[19:24] Speaker 1: were there because I just didn't think their other guys
[19:27] Speaker 1: were quite that good. And I mean, they appear to
[19:30] Speaker 1: be that good. But the other part is Victor is
[19:34] Speaker 1: better than. then I did not think that he was
[19:37] Speaker 1: ready to do things as he has done them. And
[19:40] Speaker 1: I don't think I truly gave enough credit to how
[19:43] Speaker 1: good he could be defensively. <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL>
[19:58] Speaker 1: He might be the best defensive player of all time.
[20:02] Speaker 1: Like he can guard the ball, the pass, the rim,
[20:05] Speaker 1: the mirror at the same damn time. All of these
[20:08] Speaker 1: grown men, petrified, terrified, unsure, and just saying it after
[20:14] Speaker 1: the game like it's a matter of fact. I ain't
[20:17] Speaker 1: never seen a show like this before. Yeah. What are
[20:19] Speaker 1: we supposed to do?
[20:20] Speaker 2: What are we supposed to do? He's eight feet tall.
[20:21] Speaker 1: Right. And he appears to be able, like you think
[20:26] Speaker 1: about it when the guys can just like lock in
[20:29] Speaker 1: and decide they're going to score 30 or something like that.
[20:32] Speaker 1: There's something to be said about a guy that can decide,
[20:34] Speaker 1: I'm going to lock in and nobody's getting anything.
[20:36] Speaker 2: Yeah, I can lock in and take over half side
[20:39] Speaker 2: of the court like I'm Darrell Rivas.
[20:40] Speaker 1: No, but what if Rivas could guard a radius, like
[20:45] Speaker 1: a circumference?
[20:46] Speaker 2: Yes.
[20:47] Speaker 4: Right?
[20:47] Speaker 1: Like a circle.
[20:49] Speaker 4: Yeah.
[20:50] Speaker 1: That's what I'm saying.
[20:50] Speaker 3: A circle.
[20:51] Speaker 1: He can do that. That's what's going on here. And
[20:54] Speaker 1: now we have got the Thunder who saw Brian Windhorst
[20:59] Speaker 1: make this point. Ryan, I know you're a little too
[21:01] Speaker 1: young for this. They're about to give shade, that MVP,
[21:05] Speaker 1: in front of Victor.
[21:07] Speaker 3: Yep.
[21:08] Speaker 1: Shades of giving David Robinson the MVP in front of
[21:13] Speaker 1: Akeem Olajuwon. Now, it's important to note, it's not simply
[21:20] Speaker 1: that they gave the MVP to David Robinson in front
[21:22] Speaker 1: of Olajuwon, who did not deserve the MVP that year.
[21:26] Speaker 1: I don't think he played enough games, as I recall.
[21:29] Speaker 1: The issue is, was that Robinson gave a speech where
[21:34] Speaker 1: he gave credit to the great big men who came
[21:37] Speaker 1: before him and he left out one guy.
[21:43] Speaker 2: Of course.
[21:44] Speaker 1: He left out Akeem Olajuwon. That, that there, that was the,
[21:51] Speaker 1: that was the mistake.
[21:53] Speaker 3: Right.
[21:53] Speaker 1: And then that's when Olajuwon, quite honestly, ruined David Robinson's
[21:59] Speaker 1: reputation forever. never been the same. We talked about this
[22:04] Speaker 1: the other day. David Robinson was so cold. It was
[22:08] Speaker 1: always out there, just him and his lonesome. Right? It
[22:11] Speaker 1: was not like David and Olajuwon rendered that. By the way,
[22:15] Speaker 1: the Rockets won the first two games of that series,
[22:17] Speaker 1: and they ultimately won the series in six games, but
[22:19] Speaker 1: they won the first two games in San Antonio. The
[22:21] Speaker 1: Spurs came back and won the next two games at
[22:23] Speaker 1: the Summit. Right? None of that mattered. All that anybody
[22:27] Speaker 1: remembers is that one particular up fake where it looked
[22:30] Speaker 1: like Olajuwon went through his legs. to get that layup.
[22:34] Speaker 1: It did everything. Perhaps shades of that in this. Because
[22:39] Speaker 1: I think an important difference is I never got the
[22:43] Speaker 1: feeling that Olajuwon hated David Robinson. Victor hates these guys.
[22:50] Speaker 1: They all seem to hate Oklahoma City. I'm assuming Oklahoma
[22:55] Speaker 1: City hates them back, but I don't know if they're.
[22:58] Speaker 2: I don't know if they're up for that kind of emotion.
[23:00] Speaker 1: Yeah, I don't... I mean, they need to figure it
[23:03] Speaker 1: out if they're not.
[23:04] Speaker 3: Right.
[23:04] Speaker 1: Cause I mean, I don't know if you guys been
[23:05] Speaker 1: seeing that shit. Jalen Williams been wearing to the games,
[23:07] Speaker 1: but he don't look like he can hate a soul.
[23:11] Speaker 1: He looked like he, he loved everybody. Like that, that, that, that, that, that,
[23:15] Speaker 1: that shade of salmon on that little ass jacket is
[23:18] Speaker 1: not one of a man who hates.
[23:20] Speaker 4: Right.
[23:20] Speaker 1: Just doesn't work that way. You know what I mean?
[23:22] Speaker 1: Like you ain't getting no job at Benetton hating people. Just,
[23:27] Speaker 1: it's just, that's just not how things work. I understand it.
[23:29] Speaker 1: And it's cool. Um, But the Thunder, I mean, they're
[23:33] Speaker 1: in one of the great runs of NBA history, it
[23:34] Speaker 1: looks like, right? The level of regular season success they have.
[23:38] Speaker 1: The fact they won this year, what, 64 games? And
[23:40] Speaker 1: this is without their second best player? Like, if Chet
[23:44] Speaker 1: Holmgren is their third best player, if that's the case,
[23:47] Speaker 1: or if Jalen Williams is your third best player, dude,
[23:52] Speaker 1: what are we talking about here? Because it's easy to
[23:54] Speaker 1: kind of look at them as just a collection of dudes, right?
[23:57] Speaker 4: Right.
[23:57] Speaker 1: Like a lot. And they do have like a lot
[23:59] Speaker 1: of high level role player action going on there. But
[24:02] Speaker 1: they're really, really good at the top end. But the
[24:04] Speaker 1: Spurs are too. Like I I've seen the theory that
[24:09] Speaker 1: Lou Dort is the guy to guard Victor just because,
[24:12] Speaker 1: you know, how he be how he be acting. You know,
[24:15] Speaker 1: like the idea is just to get him to be
[24:17] Speaker 1: out there muscling Victor. Okay, so who's going to muscle Castle?
[24:20] Speaker 1: Who's going to muscle Vassal? I know his name is
[24:22] Speaker 1: not Vassal, but I just like calling him Castle and Vassal, right?
[24:24] Speaker 1: Like who's going to do something with those guys? Spurs
[24:27] Speaker 1: got a lot of dudes that you got to pay
[24:29] Speaker 1: attention to. Then you got Fox with all that speed.
[24:32] Speaker 1: Dylan Harper, who is exceeding what one would expect from
[24:35] Speaker 1: a rookie under these circumstances. Luke Cornett's not the toughest
[24:39] Speaker 1: guy in the world, but my point is they got
[24:41] Speaker 1: size other than Victor. Like they got dudes. that they
[24:45] Speaker 1: can roll out here, this is going to be excellent.
[24:48] Speaker 1: It's going to be murder on the people that got
[24:51] Speaker 1: to catch these little puddle jumpers in order to get
[24:53] Speaker 1: to the game, like a 15-minute flight from San Antonio
[24:56] Speaker 1: to Dallas in a 15-minute flight. It'd just feel like
[24:58] Speaker 1: a waste. But anyway, it's here. I cannot wait, and
[25:04] Speaker 1: I have no idea who's going to win it. I
[25:06] Speaker 1: guess I could come out here and throw out some pick.
[25:09] Speaker 1: I just, I would like to think Me and my
[25:12] Speaker 1: man Rod talk about this a lot. And his question
[25:15] Speaker 1: is whether experience matters as much as it used to
[25:17] Speaker 1: in the NBA because of the parody and the kind
[25:20] Speaker 1: of like turnover that we're having with who's good and
[25:22] Speaker 1: who's not. There's the fact that the Spurs not have
[25:24] Speaker 1: any experience going against the defending champions. How much does
[25:29] Speaker 1: that matter? The defending champions part should matter. And just
[25:33] Speaker 1: about everything we know about the ascension and stories of
[25:37] Speaker 1: guys like Victor, you got to bang your head at
[25:39] Speaker 1: least once. on the way to the top. And remember,
[25:42] Speaker 1: the reason they didn't get to have anything close to
[25:44] Speaker 1: a headbanger last year is because he got hurt. He
[25:46] Speaker 1: had the thrombosis that slowed him down. It hasn't happened yet.
[25:54] Speaker 1: History would indicate that this is the time that it would.
[25:58] Speaker 1: I can't bring myself to say it. I just can't.
[26:06] Speaker 1: Am I being a coward by saying I just want
[26:08] Speaker 1: to watch and see who wins? Because I need you
[26:10] Speaker 1: to understand, I want the Spurs to win. And you
[26:17] Speaker 1: have to understand this. My mama is from Oklahoma City.
[26:23] Speaker 1: The general manager of the Oklahoma City Thunder helped an
[26:27] Speaker 1: initiative that built a statue of my mama in Oklahoma City.
[26:34] Speaker 1: And I still want Oklahoma City to lose. That's how
[26:40] Speaker 1: much I hate that shit they be doing. I hate
[26:46] Speaker 1: it so much.
[26:48] Speaker 3: What?
[26:48] Speaker 1: It gets on my nerves. Like, I was watching that
[26:51] Speaker 1: with James Harden.
[26:52] Speaker 2: That shit.
[26:52] Speaker 1: His thing, we always act like somebody punched him in
[26:54] Speaker 1: the face. And look, I saw Victor engaged in some
[26:57] Speaker 1: of them shenanigans, too. Nah, Mr. Ethical Basketball. You not
[27:01] Speaker 1: allowed to do that. Stand tall. Be an example. Be
[27:05] Speaker 1: bigger than them. That's your whole brand.
[27:07] Speaker 4: Right?
[27:07] Speaker 1: Be bigger than that. Be bigger than them. Because these
[27:10] Speaker 1: suckers about to be out here doing all that fouling
[27:12] Speaker 1: and doing all that flopping. And I hate you. I... See, now...
[27:20] Speaker 1: I kind of hate. It's going to sound terrible. I
[27:26] Speaker 1: hate that Victor wasted his elbow in the last series
[27:29] Speaker 1: because if you do it again, they definitely go to suspension. Yes. Right?
[27:33] Speaker 1: But if he had got.
[27:34] Speaker 2: Essentially against Lou Dort who deserves it more.
[27:36] Speaker 1: That's what I'm saying. If he had done that in
[27:39] Speaker 1: the first quarter against Lou Dort and they threw him
[27:41] Speaker 1: out the game, I'm going to be honest with you.
[27:43] Speaker 1: They might have started to go fund me around the
[27:46] Speaker 1: league to get him his money back. I'm going to
[27:48] Speaker 1: tell you this on the other end though. You might
[27:50] Speaker 1: elbow Lou Dort and just pop your shit out of joint. Yeah.
[27:54] Speaker 1: That is a giant, giant man. I said it was
[27:58] Speaker 1: that if Lou Dort grew up in Mississippi, Lou Dort
[27:59] Speaker 1: would be an edge rusher somewhere. And somehow people got
[28:01] Speaker 1: mad at me about this. I'm like, what are you
[28:02] Speaker 1: talking about? That's a football player. Yeah. I know a
[28:07] Speaker 1: football player when I.
[28:08] Speaker 2: Because he's built like a football player and he plays
[28:10] Speaker 2: basketball like a football player does.
[28:11] Speaker 1: Yeah, but see, that's the other thing, though, about Victor
[28:13] Speaker 1: with the Thunder. Because they're so deep, they're going to
[28:15] Speaker 1: be sending dudes out there to foul. Like Jalen Williams,
[28:19] Speaker 1: the one who daddy looked like he in the Army.
[28:21] Speaker 1: Or who looked like his daddy in the Army. That one. Yes,
[28:26] Speaker 1: that's what I mean. That guy. That's six fouls.
[28:31] Speaker 4: Um... Um.
[28:34] Speaker 1: My man, bright-skinned Hartenstein. That's what he called himself. Don't
[28:39] Speaker 1: get on me about that. He called himself bright-skinned. He
[28:41] Speaker 1: said he'd go past light-skinned all the way to bright-skinned.
[28:44] Speaker 1: He got six. I mean, Cech got six to offer.
[28:48] Speaker 1: He got to be a little bit more judicious.
[28:50] Speaker 2: He's got at least four.
[28:52] Speaker 1: Yeah, and then all them other dudes. They like shit.
[28:54] Speaker 1: We can foul, too. I don't think there's any question.
[28:57] Speaker 1: We saw Minnesota try it. And now, again, since Victor
[29:01] Speaker 1: used up his elbow... That one's off the board for
[29:05] Speaker 1: right now. You're not going to be able to do it.
[29:07] Speaker 1: But I will say this. The NBA need to watch out.
[29:11] Speaker 1: This is the summer camp that needs to get started
[29:15] Speaker 1: that nobody's talked about. Let me double check and make
[29:17] Speaker 1: sure that it's possible to have this summer camp open
[29:20] Speaker 1: because it might be too late. But I think it's
[29:22] Speaker 1: still time. Oh, okay, cool. He's still in the league.
[29:24] Speaker 3: All right.
[29:25] Speaker 1: So you know how them cats be going down there
[29:27] Speaker 1: and they work out with Olajuwon. And I'm convinced that
[29:29] Speaker 1: when they work out with Olajuwon, the only thing that
[29:31] Speaker 1: you learn is that there's only one Akeem Olajuwon. And
[29:35] Speaker 1: I assure you, he ain't doing it for free. I
[29:39] Speaker 1: used to live in... Nigeria, partner. He ain't doing it
[29:42] Speaker 1: for free. But cats go down there. Victor, by the way,
[29:46] Speaker 1: seemed to be one of the rare guys that may
[29:47] Speaker 1: have picked something up from his time doing that. But whatever.
[29:51] Speaker 1: Olajuwon is not the only center that you can go
[29:56] Speaker 1: work out with. And It really dawned on me when
[30:00] Speaker 1: I saw Victor swing that elbow that there's another player
[30:04] Speaker 1: that he kind of reminds me of. And maybe if
[30:07] Speaker 1: he puts some of this guy's work into his game,
[30:09] Speaker 1: it would make him even better and even more fearsome.
[30:13] Speaker 1: That's right. I'm talking about Bill Cartwright. Now, look, don't
[30:19] Speaker 1: be trying to shoot like him. Like, don't ever shoot.
[30:22] Speaker 1: But let Cartwright teach you about how to use those
[30:25] Speaker 1: elbows to establish your presence in the NBA, right? Y'all
[30:30] Speaker 1: cats think y'all got something now? Wait till you got
[30:32] Speaker 1: to worry about Bill Cartwright once broke Hakeem Olajuwon's face
[30:35] Speaker 1: going for a rebound. Have you ever seen the clips
[30:37] Speaker 1: of Goggle Olajuwon? That was because Bill Cartwright went up
[30:41] Speaker 1: for a rebound and came down and bowled him in
[30:43] Speaker 1: the face. That's who... Imagine, if Victor go work out
[30:46] Speaker 1: with Bill Cartwright during the summer, whole league going to
[30:49] Speaker 1: be terrified. Terrified, I tell you. He's going to get
[30:52] Speaker 1: 25 rebounds a game. Ain't nobody going to want to
[30:54] Speaker 1: guard him. He ain't never going to have to shoot
[30:55] Speaker 1: another three-pointer again. He just stand in the lane. Everybody
[30:58] Speaker 1: be like, all right, Big Peppa, you got this, dog.
[30:59] Speaker 1: We're not even going to get in the way.
[31:02] Speaker 4: That.
[31:03] Speaker 1: Bill Cartwright, if he can't set up a camp, somebody
[31:06] Speaker 1: can write the sketch of just Bill Cartwright big man camp.
[31:11] Speaker 1: And it's just big men throwing a bunch of elbows.
[31:14] Speaker 1: That's all. I'm telling you, Victor put a little bit
[31:18] Speaker 1: of that in his game. Sky's the limit. I'll tell
[31:21] Speaker 1: you this, too. If Victor played for the Thunder, they
[31:24] Speaker 1: would have called Bill Cartwright in to teach the whole team. Shit,
[31:26] Speaker 1: I'm surprised they ain't done that already, the way they
[31:28] Speaker 1: be out there playing. You can predict the playoff action

[32:49] Speaker 2: finally over in Pittsburgh. Aaron Rodgers has signed a one-year
[32:53] Speaker 2: deal with the Steelers worth up to $ 25 million. Reports
[32:56] Speaker 2: are he is at OTAs this morning. Bo, what was
[33:01] Speaker 2: your reaction to this news?
[33:03] Speaker 1: None of it has made sense. And I guess... I
[33:10] Speaker 1: guess their argument is that there's not a better quarterback
[33:15] Speaker 1: available than Aaron Rodgers. And it is possible that that
[33:18] Speaker 1: is true. But that is in a I would call
[33:22] Speaker 1: it risk minimization sort of approach. Like it was on
[33:27] Speaker 1: the board for the Steelers to do what Miami did.
[33:31] Speaker 1: And Miami is not making any sense of what they did.
[33:32] Speaker 1: But go get Malik Willis. Go get somebody that gives
[33:36] Speaker 1: you a chance at a higher ceiling, that there's a possibility.
[33:40] Speaker 1: The possibility that Aaron Rodgers is better than he was
[33:43] Speaker 1: last year is low. That's just not how getting old works.
[33:45] Speaker 1: It's highly unlikely.
[33:47] Speaker 2: And he was bad last year.
[33:48] Speaker 1: And he was bad last year. He is a 20
[33:52] Speaker 1: to 25 range quarterback. Because he just tore his Achilles
[33:56] Speaker 1: a couple years ago. He's not mobile like that. He
[33:58] Speaker 1: can't move like that. He's actually pretty good considering. But
[34:03] Speaker 1: he's not.
[34:05] Speaker 1: He's not like LeBron James at 41. Even though Aaron
[34:08] Speaker 1: Rodgers is really good to be 43. But he's not
[34:11] Speaker 1: the equivalent of what LeBron James is at his age. Right?
[34:14] Speaker 1: He should not still be out there. And they should
[34:17] Speaker 1: not have still been wanting to do this. Now that
[34:20] Speaker 1: he out there with his ex-coach.
[34:23] Speaker 4: Right?
[34:23] Speaker 1: And they got sick of each other after a point.
[34:27] Speaker 2: That's the thing that's crazy about this. He's doing this.
[34:31] Speaker 2: He's dragging us out to do this again with Mike McCarthy,
[34:34] Speaker 2: who he dragged the whole time he was in Green Bay.
[34:38] Speaker 1: So something I do seem to appreciate about Aaron Rodgers
[34:40] Speaker 1: is that he does seem to be a guy that's
[34:42] Speaker 1: willing to look back and be like, hey man, maybe
[34:44] Speaker 1: we should just let this go, right? Like a guy
[34:46] Speaker 1: that deals with stuff. And so I think there may
[34:49] Speaker 1: be something admirable about the fact that he's willing to
[34:53] Speaker 1: play for McCarthy again. My thing about that is, as
[34:56] Speaker 1: wild as it is and seemed to be a risk
[34:58] Speaker 1: minimization play to go with Aaron Rodgers, you know what
[35:01] Speaker 1: else applies to that?
[35:03] Speaker 2: Mike McCarthy.
[35:04] Speaker 1: Mike McCarthy. Like, it was a reminder of, wait, hey,
[35:07] Speaker 1: that shit didn't make any sense either. Hey, guys, what
[35:09] Speaker 1: are we doing here? And their thing is, you know,
[35:12] Speaker 1: the Steelers, they don't want to rebuild or they don't rebuild.
[35:17] Speaker 1: At some point, you're going to have to. And it
[35:20] Speaker 1: looks like that point is going to be next year
[35:22] Speaker 1: because it's on the board that they could stink this year.
[35:26] Speaker 2: I mean, yes, it is. It has to be like
[35:30] Speaker 2: Aaron Rodgers has not been good in five years.
[35:34] Speaker 1: That's fair. That's it. And and he's and he's still
[35:38] Speaker 1: going to have moments where you can dial it up.
[35:40] Speaker 3: Of course.
[35:40] Speaker 4: Right.
[35:41] Speaker 1: You're going to be able to put together like a
[35:42] Speaker 1: snippet of great. I mean, a cut of great plays
[35:46] Speaker 1: that's going to remind you that he's Aaron Rodgers. But
[35:49] Speaker 1: he's not like it's it's it's it's abundantly clear that.
[35:53] Speaker 1: That he's not. And they've decided that they're going to
[35:56] Speaker 1: go ahead and do this again. Something I didn't realize either.
[35:57] Speaker 1: They got the oldest defense in the NFL.
[36:00] Speaker 4: Yeesh.
[36:01] Speaker 2: Yeah. That's going to be interesting to see how that goes.
[36:05] Speaker 2: Moving on to Atlanta. Big news in Waffle House. Some
[36:09] Speaker 2: workers staged a rally demanding $ 25 an hour and safer
[36:16] Speaker 2: working conditions. Representative from Clark Atlanta University said, You have
[36:21] Speaker 2: people coming in, inebriated, harassing employees, particularly women who feel unsafe.
[36:27] Speaker 2: People don't always tip even when they do. We don't
[36:30] Speaker 2: get all our tips. They go to our paychecks. They're taxed.
[36:32] Speaker 2: So Waffle House workers trying to change their situation in Atlanta. Beau,
[36:37] Speaker 2: what was your reaction to this?
[36:38] Speaker 1: So Waffle House is a very interesting place. fixture in
[36:43] Speaker 1: commerce and culture to me.
[36:45] Speaker 2: In America.
[36:46] Speaker 1: Yeah. As a full-on notion, everybody's got a Waffle House story,
[36:53] Speaker 1: and all of them imply that the worker should make
[36:56] Speaker 1: more than $ 25 an hour. Every single story. I think
[36:59] Speaker 1: the best one, my partner's head, they were in the
[37:02] Speaker 1: Waffle House one day, and some dude got into it
[37:05] Speaker 1: with a woman in there. I don't want to say
[37:06] Speaker 1: he called her a bitch or something like that. She
[37:08] Speaker 1: got on the phone and was like, uh-huh. Okay.
[37:12] Speaker 2: All right.
[37:13] Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah. Okay, cool. And she's like, hey, that's my husband.
[37:17] Speaker 1: He weighs 300 pounds. He's on the way here. So
[37:19] Speaker 1: do you want me to call the ambulance now or
[37:20] Speaker 1: you want to wait? The guy's left. This is what
[37:28] Speaker 1: goes down at the Waffle House.
[37:30] Speaker 2: Waffle House workers should make $ 25 an hour everywhere in America,
[37:34] Speaker 2: including if you went back in time 20 years.
[37:37] Speaker 1: Yes. Here's the only problem with what's going to happen
[37:41] Speaker 1: if this happens. OK, and I would love to see
[37:44] Speaker 1: the profit margins at Waffle House.
[37:45] Speaker 4: Yes.
[37:46] Speaker 2: Yeah.
[37:47] Speaker 1: I'm very, very curious, like what the books look like.
[37:49] Speaker 1: But I just know there are two things that are
[37:52] Speaker 1: going to happen. And this doesn't mean that people shouldn't
[37:54] Speaker 1: get paid $ 25 an hour. Just throwing it out here. Right.
[37:58] Speaker 1: If the food at the Waffle House is as it
[38:01] Speaker 1: currently stands at current wages, how much worse is that
[38:05] Speaker 1: food going to get if they start paying the workers
[38:08] Speaker 1: $ 25 an hour?
[38:09] Speaker 4: Right.
[38:11] Speaker 1: Just asking that question. And number two, and this is
[38:16] Speaker 1: a big one, what is going to happen to the
[38:19] Speaker 1: prices at Waffle House if they start paying these people
[38:22] Speaker 1: $ 25 an hour? Because let me tell you what is
[38:25] Speaker 1: going to happen to those prices. They are going to
[38:27] Speaker 1: be offensive for the idea of eating at Waffle House.
[38:33] Speaker 2: And then more people might want to fight.
[38:34] Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah. I don't even know what stuff costs at
[38:38] Speaker 1: Waffle House anymore because going to Waffle House at actual
[38:42] Speaker 1: breakfast hours doesn't make any sense. So it's been a
[38:44] Speaker 1: long time since I've been awake at Waffle House hours.
[38:47] Speaker 1: I don't know what anything costs right now. But there's
[38:52] Speaker 1: only so much I'm paying for cold scrambled eggs because
[38:55] Speaker 1: they always put the eggs on the grill first. And
[38:57] Speaker 1: I just don't know how they don't have a best
[38:59] Speaker 1: practices binder that tells you not to do that. Everybody
[39:03] Speaker 1: else knows better at their own fucking house. How do
[39:05] Speaker 1: you know that you're not supposed to do that? So
[39:08] Speaker 1: I'm hoping they win. I really, really am. This to
[39:12] Speaker 1: me is the wildest thing about Waffle House. Waffle House
[39:15] Speaker 1: is the only place that I can think of where
[39:18] Speaker 1: if you decide to rob the Waffle House... there is
[39:21] Speaker 1: just a good a chance that the Waffle House is
[39:23] Speaker 1: going to rob you. Like the fear that you have
[39:28] Speaker 1: to have of robbing the Waffle House is that you're
[39:31] Speaker 1: going to get robbed. Like, I just can't imagine, like,
[39:35] Speaker 1: we're going to come set it off and the ruckus
[39:37] Speaker 1: is going to start here at the Waffle House. I
[39:41] Speaker 1: don't think you should, I got to tell you something too, man.
[39:43] Speaker 1: I got to pot in there. He was a manager
[39:46] Speaker 1: at the Waffle House. His stories. But the staff are amazing.
[39:51] Speaker 2: I can only imagine.
[39:53] Speaker 1: And I think a big part of why Waffle House
[39:55] Speaker 1: should consider paying $ 25 an hour is then when my
[40:00] Speaker 1: man was working at Waffle House, if they were paying
[40:02] Speaker 1: $ 25 an hour, he might not have had to be
[40:04] Speaker 1: so tolerant of the employees smoking crack on their brakes.
[40:09] Speaker 1: Because that's who he was getting to work at Waffle
[40:10] Speaker 1: House for the prices that Waffle House was paying. You
[40:13] Speaker 1: could get a different caliber of employee if you take
[40:15] Speaker 1: it up. Problem also, though, maybe if you take it
[40:18] Speaker 1: up to $ 25 an hour, now you won't have employees
[40:21] Speaker 1: capable of robbing robbers. They may be a little bit
[40:24] Speaker 1: too bougie. They may be a little, you know, $ 25
[40:26] Speaker 1: an hour this day and age. Shit, you could have
[40:28] Speaker 1: somebody on the grill with a degree.
[40:30] Speaker 4: Right?
[40:30] Speaker 3: I don't know.
[40:31] Speaker 2: Might be a master's degree the way the economy is.
[40:33] Speaker 1: A lot of ways this could go. But I root
[40:36] Speaker 1: for always team labor over here.
[40:38] Speaker 2: All right, and finally, this one piece made the rounds
[40:42] Speaker 2: on the Internet in sort of an ironic way, a
[40:45] Speaker 2: piece in Vulture. The feed is fake. That viral song, movie, meme, influencer,
[40:52] Speaker 2: and celebrity drama was probably the product of a stealth
[40:55] Speaker 2: marketing campaign. Bo, you've been talking to us for a while,
[40:58] Speaker 2: and this piece caught your eye. What was your thoughts?
[41:00] Speaker 1: Well, you know, there's something to the idea of the
[41:02] Speaker 1: zombie Internet, right? Like, for example, Twitter at this point
[41:05] Speaker 1: is largely a zombie app. It is bots by and
[41:10] Speaker 1: large sending out content that just keep people engaged, who
[41:14] Speaker 1: are addicted to scrolling and addicted to responding. And I'm
[41:17] Speaker 1: saying that more in the first person than I am
[41:19] Speaker 1: in the third, just to be clear. That's where, I mean,
[41:23] Speaker 1: that's what the stuff is. But it does always seem right,
[41:27] Speaker 1: right around the time somebody's got something coming out, some album, whatever,
[41:31] Speaker 1: all this stuff just floods the zone, like all this
[41:33] Speaker 1: Michael Jackson content that, you know, because this is the
[41:36] Speaker 1: part I think that happened that nobody really talks about,
[41:38] Speaker 1: which is people complain about the For You tab. I
[41:43] Speaker 1: use the For You tab on those apps. And you
[41:46] Speaker 1: know why? Because people are like, I just want to
[41:48] Speaker 1: get something from the people I follow. I've been listening
[41:50] Speaker 1: to those people for 15 years. Kind of tired of
[41:54] Speaker 1: their shit, right? Like you need, you want to sprinkle.
[41:57] Speaker 1: A little something else in there, right? That's what it
[41:59] Speaker 1: turns into. And by the way, those people are on
[42:02] Speaker 1: the For You tab, so they're going to sprinkle in
[42:04] Speaker 1: that same stuff that's coming from the other place. It's
[42:08] Speaker 1: going to be there. But the change that's happened is
[42:11] Speaker 1: just in terms of how we consume, it's gone from
[42:14] Speaker 1: using those apps to keep up with your friends or
[42:16] Speaker 1: the friends that you've made to just responding to stuff, right?
[42:21] Speaker 1: It's like they stepped on that dope. You were getting
[42:23] Speaker 1: the pure dope that you wanted at first. And then
[42:26] Speaker 1: it just got stepped on, stepped on. And then they
[42:28] Speaker 1: started putting that fentanyl in and it's killing us.
[42:31] Speaker 5: Right.
[42:32] Speaker 1: And that's what my thought was when I read this
[42:34] Speaker 1: story about how like an album comes out or something
[42:36] Speaker 1: or some project and a company will put together 65,000
[42:40] Speaker 1: bots just to flood the zone with the content. And
[42:44] Speaker 1: what gets me for me about it is, is the
[42:47] Speaker 1: idea that nothing is organic at all. And there's always
[42:51] Speaker 1: been at every turn on every form of media or whatever,
[42:53] Speaker 1: an element that was not organic, like payola is to radio,
[42:56] Speaker 1: for example. But there's something about that feeling that something
[43:00] Speaker 1: is like really building. And there's something about feeling like
[43:03] Speaker 1: you caught up on something. And then, you know, there's
[43:06] Speaker 1: a movement that starts and then it goes from there.
[43:08] Speaker 1: That's really cool. My question, and it gets back to
[43:11] Speaker 1: what I talked about before, when people would hit me
[43:13] Speaker 1: up and talk about how do I get my career
[43:15] Speaker 1: going again? I don't know. Because if what you're up
[43:19] Speaker 1: against as a regular person is 65,000 bots, right? And
[43:25] Speaker 1: you'd be like, well, I mean, and it's not even
[43:27] Speaker 1: like if you're a rapper, for example, but you got
[43:29] Speaker 1: to go up against whatever the flood of Drake stuff
[43:31] Speaker 1: is that's coming out because people have been sitting up.
[43:34] Speaker 1: How do you get anybody to see your stuff when
[43:36] Speaker 1: everybody says it's all about social, it's all about your
[43:39] Speaker 1: follower count, right? How many people you get. Except it's
[43:41] Speaker 1: not about that. It's about your willingness to pay for
[43:44] Speaker 1: people that don't even have to follow you just to
[43:45] Speaker 1: flood the zone. So how is anybody supposed to make
[43:49] Speaker 1: anything happen? Like we're really at that point where you
[43:51] Speaker 1: start sounding like those people that used to sound crazy
[43:53] Speaker 1: about the fact that we live in a simulation, right?
[43:56] Speaker 1: If the attention is all bought and paid for, it
[44:00] Speaker 1: is truly a simulation of a zeitgeist rather than a
[44:04] Speaker 1: zeitgeist that truly gives you a reflection of where culture
[44:07] Speaker 1: is and stands. And that's after we moved everything into
[44:10] Speaker 1: these spaces, I find that incredibly worrisome.
[44:19] Speaker 2: All right, Bo, a lot of good voicemails. Here's our first.
[44:23] Speaker 6: Bo, what's happening? It's your boy, Ricky Cortez, for usual,
[44:27] Speaker 6: back at you. Just listening to you talking about why
[44:30] Speaker 6: the Spurs don't have a goon, man. I got a
[44:32] Speaker 6: question for you. Why haven't, to answer somebody, not even
[44:36] Speaker 6: just the Spurs, why hasn't somebody called Boogie, man? That
[44:39] Speaker 6: is the goon of all goons out there available right now,
[44:42] Speaker 6: ready to smack somebody's head off. Imagine him just sitting
[44:47] Speaker 6: at the end of the bench, whispering words like Draymond
[44:52] Speaker 6: did to KD back in Golden State, hyping him up
[44:55] Speaker 6: for the championship, bro. We need Boogie waiting for somebody
[45:00] Speaker 6: to mess, for somebody to look twice at Wimby so
[45:04] Speaker 6: he can get checked into the game and roll somebody over.
[45:07] Speaker 6: That's all I had to say. Let me know what
[45:09] Speaker 6: you think about that. But we need, yeah, the way
[45:11] Speaker 6: Beef Stew does it big in Detroit, we need Boogie
[45:16] Speaker 6: back in the league just to Just to reinforce. I'm
[45:18] Speaker 6: here in envy, man. Just like, you know, nobody wanted
[45:21] Speaker 6: to mess with Hallie once they brought in Big JJ.
[45:26] Speaker 6: Juwan Johnson. Juwan Johnson? Whatever his name is.
[45:29] Speaker 3: Him.
[45:30] Speaker 6: Yeah. Let me know what you think. I like you both.
[45:34] Speaker 1: All right. That is James Johnson.
[45:36] Speaker 2: Yes.
[45:37] Speaker 1: I will just throw this out here, though, just to
[45:39] Speaker 1: make you feel old. Do you realize it has been
[45:43] Speaker 1: eight years since DeMarcus Cousins tore his Achilles tendon?
[45:48] Speaker 2: No, I did not.
[45:49] Speaker 1: It has been eight years. He was only 27, by
[45:52] Speaker 1: the way, when he tore his Achilles. And he is
[45:55] Speaker 1: now still only 35. He feels much older.
[46:01] Speaker 3: Right.
[46:02] Speaker 1: But the answer to your question is all in the old.
[46:06] Speaker 3: Right.
[46:07] Speaker 5: Right.
[46:07] Speaker 1: He's there. And also a little unwieldy.
[46:12] Speaker 2: Just a touch.
[46:13] Speaker 1: Just a touch. He is in the Rasheed Wallace category of, wow,
[46:20] Speaker 1: he became beloved. When did that happen?
[46:23] Speaker 2: For sure.
[46:24] Speaker 1: Guys I have no problem with, by the way. I
[46:25] Speaker 1: met DeMarcus in Vegas one time. He seemed real cool.
[46:28] Speaker 2: Yeah, Rasheed seems really cool if you get along with him.
[46:31] Speaker 1: Yeah, that's a great way to put it.
[46:34] Speaker 2: All right, here's our next one.
[46:36] Speaker 1: Yo, what's up, Bo?
[46:38] Speaker 4: Courtney from Louisiana. I just wanted to give you a call,
[46:42] Speaker 4: a shout-out. Just watched the pod with you and Nick Wright,
[46:46] Speaker 4: and I just thought of an interesting question for you guys.
[46:50] Speaker 4: So we talked about LeBron going to a situation where
[46:54] Speaker 4: he wasn't liked, and y'all brought up the Jeannie Buss situation.
[46:58] Speaker 4: Knowing Jeannie Buss is a big Magic Johnson, Kobe Bryant,
[47:03] Speaker 4: like a true Lakers person. And what type of tension or, like,
[47:07] Speaker 4: kin tension– do you think just got brought up during
[47:12] Speaker 4: this time? Nick always talks about them wanting him to
[47:17] Speaker 4: be washed a little bit sooner than what he is.
[47:19] Speaker 4: But actually, like, what if Jeannie Buss was just like
[47:22] Speaker 4: a diehard Kobe fan? Been watching you a long time.
[47:26] Speaker 4: Appreciate you. Love the pod.
[47:28] Speaker 2: Keep them coming.
[47:29] Speaker 4: Go Tigers.
[47:30] Speaker 3: All right.
[47:32] Speaker 1: So he said just what if Jeannie Buss was just
[47:35] Speaker 1: a Kobe fan?
[47:36] Speaker 2: Yeah.
[47:36] Speaker 1: No, I mean.
[47:39] Speaker 1: I think Nick is fair to say that the LeBron
[47:42] Speaker 1: era has been successful. It was certainly better than it
[47:44] Speaker 1: was before, but I think it's hard to argue it
[47:47] Speaker 1: also that it hasn't been a little disappointing. I thought
[47:50] Speaker 1: it would be more than this. And I think people
[47:52] Speaker 1: just thought that it would feel better than this. And
[47:54] Speaker 1: so I don't even, I mean, I think the, the
[47:56] Speaker 1: Kobe stand element of it always made it a little
[47:59] Speaker 1: tough with Lakers fans, you know, as it went, but
[48:03] Speaker 1: I just really think it just hadn't been what they
[48:04] Speaker 1: thought it was going to be.
[48:05] Speaker 2: I think it's very clear. that the longer you've been somewhere,
[48:11] Speaker 2: the more you believe in your own mythos.
[48:14] Speaker 4: Yes.
[48:15] Speaker 2: And I think the Lakers wanted LeBron things to do
[48:18] Speaker 2: things the Laker way, and LeBron wanted the Lakers to
[48:21] Speaker 2: do things the LeBron way.
[48:22] Speaker 1: Yes.
[48:23] Speaker 2: And that is where the tension has been at all times.
[48:25] Speaker 1: I think that's fair, because there was that run where
[48:27] Speaker 1: they were letting Clutch have the run of the place, right? Right.
[48:30] Speaker 1: And get all their guys. That was not the Magic
[48:32] Speaker 1: Johnson era, but it was the one that came after it.
[48:35] Speaker 4: But.
[48:39] Speaker 1: I would understand why LeBron thought he knew more about
[48:43] Speaker 1: running a franchise than the current Lakers regime. Jerry Buss
[48:48] Speaker 1: seemed to be good at it. Second generation Busses? Not
[48:54] Speaker 1: so much, right? And LeBron is not... LeBron, you gotta
[48:57] Speaker 1: prove it to. You gotta show him. Like, Steph Curry
[49:00] Speaker 1: seems content to let the Warriors run that. LeBron is like,
[49:03] Speaker 1: I have to answer for everything that goes wrong all
[49:06] Speaker 1: the time. And He probably knew better than they did.
[49:09] Speaker 1: That's the truth.
[49:10] Speaker 2: All right, here's our next one.
[49:13] Speaker 3: Hey, Bomani.
[49:13] Speaker 1: Hey, Ryan.
[49:14] Speaker 5: This is Jasper from D.C. I'm watching. a clip right
[49:21] Speaker 5: now on social media of Joel lining up against somebody
[49:27] Speaker 5: when they were on the ringer tailgate stuff at UCLA.
[49:33] Speaker 5: And Joel gets burnt pretty bad. And I was curious
[49:38] Speaker 5: if you guys had seen the clip. and what your
[49:42] Speaker 5: analysis of the film is. Have a good one.
[49:47] Speaker 3: Thanks.
[49:49] Speaker 1: First of all, yes, I saw the clip, and I
[49:52] Speaker 1: saw the clip because Van couldn't wait to send it
[49:54] Speaker 1: to me. I saw the clip well before any of
[49:56] Speaker 1: you did.
[49:57] Speaker 2: You might have been the first person to see that
[49:58] Speaker 2: clip who wasn't there.
[49:59] Speaker 1: It is totally possible I received that clip, and I
[50:04] Speaker 1: am Team Joel on this one. Joel was out there
[50:08] Speaker 1: in sneakers. and jeans try to backpedal, that's not easy
[50:15] Speaker 1: to do. And as Joel has pointed out, go look
[50:18] Speaker 1: at that clip of him running the nine route on
[50:20] Speaker 1: Billy and making the catch. Joel also has some criticisms
[50:23] Speaker 1: of Van as all-time quarterback that I wasn't in a
[50:27] Speaker 1: position to evaluate, but I did not bully Joel like
[50:31] Speaker 1: the rest of y'all have because I am a friend
[50:35] Speaker 1: to Joel Anderson. You understand what I'm saying? Now, would
[50:38] Speaker 1: Joel take this same approach for me? Hell no. No
[50:43] Speaker 1: chance in the world. But me?
[50:45] Speaker 3: Nope.
[50:46] Speaker 1: I'm here riding for Joel on this one, and I
[50:48] Speaker 1: look forward to him getting in shape and getting ready
[50:51] Speaker 1: for his race against Billy. And Ryan, I feel like
[50:53] Speaker 1: we got to find a way to get ourselves to.
[50:56] Speaker 2: Yeah, we got to go.
[50:57] Speaker 1: I know you might be a little busy around that time,
[50:59] Speaker 1: but I want to find a way to get there
[51:02] Speaker 1: and be there. But nah, y'all ain't going to get
[51:04] Speaker 1: me to pile on my buddy Joel in that moment.
[51:07] Speaker 1: No sirree Bob. In fact, I don't know if any
[51:09] Speaker 1: of y'all got the right to do that. Y'all getting
[51:11] Speaker 1: a little familiar with Joel. And, you know, that's why
[51:14] Speaker 1: he be on the internet cussing y'all out. My God, boy.
[51:19] Speaker 2: I got to say, you know what the real lesson
[51:20] Speaker 2: for me here is? Unless you're a pro athlete, don't
[51:24] Speaker 2: let anyone film you.
[51:25] Speaker 1: Doing anything athletic. No, I refuse.
[51:27] Speaker 2: Not in a million years.
[51:29] Speaker 1: I refuse. Not a way in the world. Not a
[51:32] Speaker 1: way in the world. By the way, speaking of cousin people,
[51:34] Speaker 1: I need to say something right fast, Ryan. So we
[51:36] Speaker 1: did an event in Atlanta, kind of Beaumont Jones live.
[51:40] Speaker 1: Shout out to my man, Rod. Shout out to Karen.
[51:42] Speaker 1: Shout out to my guy, Dimitri. It was a real
[51:44] Speaker 1: good time. And thanks to everybody who came out. I
[51:47] Speaker 1: don't think I've told you about this. We had a
[51:50] Speaker 1: meet and greet where people paid a little extra to
[51:52] Speaker 1: come do the meet and greet. People were afraid to
[51:59] Speaker 1: come speak to me because they had received the impression
[52:03] Speaker 1: from listening to me that I do not like it
[52:06] Speaker 1: when people come up and talk to me.
[52:09] Speaker 2: Well, maybe not in the street, but this is a
[52:11] Speaker 2: different situation.
[52:13] Speaker 1: I started with that point. I understood that you paid, right?
[52:17] Speaker 1: I actually noticed it. And I told Dimitri, I was like, dude,
[52:20] Speaker 1: you got to get on the microphone and tell people
[52:22] Speaker 1: it's okay to come talk to me, right? And people
[52:26] Speaker 1: who did, they're like, well, we know you don't. I'm like, no,
[52:28] Speaker 1: I just like people to read the room a little bit, right?
[52:30] Speaker 1: Don't feel as though you're entitled to me. I will listen.
[52:33] Speaker 1: I will speak to you. I will be very nice.
[52:36] Speaker 1: I'll take a picture, whatever it is. But not if
[52:38] Speaker 1: I got a plate of food in front of me,
[52:40] Speaker 1: you know, where I'm out with somebody or whatever it is.
[52:42] Speaker 1: But I'm like, oh, damn, I'm really doing something wrong here.
[52:46] Speaker 1: If I have given you guys the impression that I'm
[52:49] Speaker 1: mean like that.
[52:51] Speaker 4: Right.
[52:51] Speaker 1: You can vouch for this.
[52:52] Speaker 2: You're not mean.
[52:54] Speaker 3: At all. At all.
[52:55] Speaker 2: Not even slightly. You are not mean, but. You are
[52:59] Speaker 2: not mean.
[53:00] Speaker 1: That's not what I do. I don't do mean.
[53:02] Speaker 2: Quite nice, actually.
[53:03] Speaker 1: Yeah, so if you see me, right, I might just
[53:05] Speaker 1: keep it quick. I might not want it to go
[53:07] Speaker 1: on forever. We might not talk, you know, the whole
[53:09] Speaker 1: leeway or whatever, but I could not believe those people
[53:11] Speaker 1: paid money and then did what. I'm like, yo, in fact,
[53:15] Speaker 1: I could break down one of the walls of this show, right?
[53:18] Speaker 1: Ryan and I have a thing with certain guests where
[53:21] Speaker 1: we have a line on them. Too much respect. And
[53:24] Speaker 1: what we mean by too much respect is people who
[53:27] Speaker 1: get on and they want to make sure they sound
[53:29] Speaker 1: smart or look whatever it is. And where I'm like, no, man,
[53:32] Speaker 1: just come on here and kick it. It ain't that
[53:34] Speaker 1: big a deal, right?
[53:35] Speaker 2: Put your feet up. It's fun.
[53:37] Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah. Some of the people on the too much
[53:38] Speaker 1: respect list might surprise you. They're good, but it's still like, hey,
[53:40] Speaker 1: a little too much respect. This is an example in
[53:43] Speaker 1: the wild of, hey, just a little too much respect.
[53:45] Speaker 1: So I don't need you running up on me everywhere, right? However,
[53:50] Speaker 1: if you paid money to talk to me, Come talk
[53:55] Speaker 1: to me. It's okay. I promise. It's cool. But no, seriously,
[54:00] Speaker 1: it was a great time. I really love the opportunity
[54:03] Speaker 1: for members of the audience to meet each other. I
[54:05] Speaker 1: love because the way Rod and I have worked together
[54:07] Speaker 1: in different ways for so long and where our audiences
[54:10] Speaker 1: kind of overlap. I love, like I had somebody there
[54:12] Speaker 1: tell me how they found out about me through Rod, right?
[54:15] Speaker 1: Like I love the idea that we had that exchange,
[54:17] Speaker 1: that interplay and to see people come together. And I
[54:20] Speaker 1: want to read something. right fast because it's in line
[54:24] Speaker 1: with this that I want you guys to hear. I
[54:26] Speaker 1: received a message on Instagram, and I'm glad in this
[54:31] Speaker 1: occasion that I read the stranger Instagram inbox, which I
[54:37] Speaker 1: rarely do. And this is what I received. It's from
[54:45] Speaker 1: a gentleman, I believe it's Rhea or Rhea. I'm not
[54:47] Speaker 1: sure how to pronounce it, but he said, hey, Bo,
[54:49] Speaker 1: I just graduated from college in the U.S. from South Africa.
[54:52] Speaker 1: I'm leaving the States tomorrow and just wanted to say
[54:54] Speaker 1: thank you. These past four years were really difficult and
[54:57] Speaker 1: the right time was my daily piece of joy. I
[54:59] Speaker 1: honestly just wanted to express my gratitude for you helping
[55:02] Speaker 1: me think critically and challenge my own values. As I
[55:04] Speaker 1: leave the country and look to do greater things, you
[55:07] Speaker 1: have impacted me significantly and I want to express my gratitude. Joel, Dominique, Van, Ryan, Nick, Steven, Roy, Howard,
[55:14] Speaker 1: and everyone on your platform genuinely motivate me to not
[55:17] Speaker 1: only learn, but give back and have the necessary discussions
[55:20] Speaker 1: that make sense but explore the journey of life. Thank you.
[55:23] Speaker 1: And that just made my day. Like I just thought
[55:25] Speaker 1: that was, that was very nice of him. And I'm
[55:27] Speaker 1: glad that we don't get that many at this point.
[55:30] Speaker 1: I don't get that many opportunities to hear from people
[55:33] Speaker 1: who actually like what we do.
[55:35] Speaker 2: Right.
[55:35] Speaker 1: Like I have to kind of just take for granted
[55:36] Speaker 1: that you guys are out there. So to be able
[55:38] Speaker 1: to meet people and to receive something like that, like
[55:42] Speaker 1: I appreciate that. I say thank you greatly. And yeah,
[55:46] Speaker 1: if you paid money to talk to me, don't worry.
[55:50] Speaker 1: I'll talk to you.
[55:54] Speaker 2: All right, let's run this last voicemail.
[55:57] Speaker 3: Hey, Bomani and Ryan. This is Jake from the Champaign-Urbana
[56:00] Speaker 3: area of Illinois. Just calling to give you guys a
[56:03] Speaker 3: little bit of an update. After bouncing back and forth
[56:07] Speaker 3: between the Puerto Rican barbershop and my regular barbershop, last
[56:12] Speaker 3: time I went into the Puerto Rican shop and just
[56:15] Speaker 3: asked them if it was cool that a white guy
[56:17] Speaker 3: like myself kept showing up to get his hair dyed.
[56:21] Speaker 3: the barber that I was talking to laughed, said something
[56:25] Speaker 3: in Spanish to the rest of the barbershop. They all laughed.
[56:30] Speaker 3: And then he looked at me and said that as
[56:31] Speaker 3: long as I keep bringing cash and a smile, I'm
[56:35] Speaker 3: always welcome to go there to get my haircut. So
[56:40] Speaker 3: shout out to Urban Chates in Urbana, Illinois, because they
[56:47] Speaker 3: let me keep showing up.
[56:48] Speaker 2: Hope you guys have a good one.
[56:49] Speaker 5: Bye-bye.
[56:50] Speaker 1: Efectivo y una sonrisa. I would love to know what
[56:55] Speaker 1: he told them, what they said. Of course, for me, unfortunately,
[56:59] Speaker 1: it's that Puerto Rican Spanish. I wouldn't have been able
[57:00] Speaker 1: to help you with nothing. Nothing at all. White guys misunderstand.
[57:08] Speaker 1: That's what y'all do. Y'all be churning away good-ass money. Jessica,
[57:15] Speaker 1: who is coming from?
[57:16] Speaker 2: Not us.
[57:18] Speaker 1: No, sirree, Bob. Come on in here, gringo. I don't
[57:24] Speaker 1: think that's applicable when you're in Champaign. By the way,
[57:26] Speaker 1: that's where my parents met, was in Champaign or about.
[57:29] Speaker 2: That's incredible.
[57:30] Speaker 1: Yes, it is. Hey, but ladies and gentlemen, thanks so
[57:33] Speaker 1: much for joining us here on The Right Time. We
