[0:05] Speaker 1: Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the right time, a wave original.
[0:10] Speaker 1: My name is Beaumont Jones. Thanks for listening wherever you
[0:12] Speaker 1: get your podcast. Thanks for watching us on YouTube. Subscribe, like,
[0:16] Speaker 1: rate us, review us, give us five stars. You only
[0:19] Speaker 1: give us four stars. I'm inclined to believe you are
[0:22] Speaker 1: a hater. We got some NFL coaching moves to talk about.
[0:25] Speaker 1: We'll get to them in a second, and I'm going
[0:27] Speaker 1: to be honest with you. We are currently recording at
[0:29] Speaker 1: 921 Eastern Time.
[0:30] Speaker 2: And.
[0:35] Speaker 1: We're going to wait a little while before we talk
[0:37] Speaker 1: about the coaches because we want to give a little
[0:41] Speaker 1: bit more time for people to get fired. All right,
[0:43] Speaker 1: I don't know what this says about me, what this
[0:46] Speaker 1: says about us, but I was watching the TV before
[0:49] Speaker 1: we came in here. Adam Schefter had to get up
[0:52] Speaker 1: and get off the set and go take phone calls
[0:55] Speaker 1: in the middle of the show, which, I mean, I
[0:57] Speaker 1: got to say is a little weird, but whatever.
[0:59] Speaker 3: Interesting television for sure.
[1:01] Speaker 1: It is, but the thing is, like, whenever he come
[1:04] Speaker 1: back is real disappointing if somebody ain't get fired. And
[1:08] Speaker 1: that's that, and that like, I don't feel that bad.
[1:13] Speaker 1: Cause they going to get their money.
[1:14] Speaker 2: Correct.
[1:15] Speaker 1: Right. Like it's not the problem with getting fired. Isn't
[1:18] Speaker 1: getting fired. is where my check at?
[1:22] Speaker 3: Yes.
[1:22] Speaker 1: Right? Like, that's all this comes down to. Where my
[1:26] Speaker 1: check at? And if they're like, yo, but the check's
[1:27] Speaker 1: still going to come, they're like, you know, it's a
[1:29] Speaker 1: big deal for your kids and everything. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Whatever, man.
[1:34] Speaker 3: I mean, when Pete Carroll gets fired in the next
[1:36] Speaker 3: couple hours, you know, no one's going to feel sorry
[1:40] Speaker 3: for his family. He's fine. Yeah, yeah.
[1:41] Speaker 1: We ain't got time to wait for the sun to
[1:43] Speaker 1: come up in Las Vegas before we start doing this show. Like,
[1:46] Speaker 1: I think we all feel pretty confident. that he is
[1:48] Speaker 1: going to wind up getting fired. But we'll get to
[1:51] Speaker 1: the fired people in just a second. One of them
[1:53] Speaker 1: we think eventually will be Jim Harbaugh.
[1:55] Speaker 3: Right.
[1:56] Speaker 1: John Harbaugh. Big difference. Boy, this is the Jordan-Justin Jefferson
[2:01] Speaker 1: situation all over the game, except the consequences are much
[2:03] Speaker 1: more serious in terms of what phrasing we happen to choose. But,
[2:08] Speaker 1: I mean, we had talked about their Ravens steal this game. Well,
[2:12] Speaker 1: I guess we didn't talk about it on the show
[2:13] Speaker 1: because we just got off taking a couple weeks off.
[2:14] Speaker 1: But we had talked about it beforehand. The possibility of
[2:17] Speaker 1: a loser leaves town match in that week 18 matchup, right?
[2:20] Speaker 1: And it really came down to the last playoff spot
[2:23] Speaker 1: was who was going to win that game and who
[2:25] Speaker 1: was going to lose it. And I'll be honest with you.
[2:31] Speaker 1: If the Steelers had lost that game... I don't even
[2:34] Speaker 1: know what they would have let Mike Tomlin come and
[2:36] Speaker 1: talk to the players. I mean, they probably would have
[2:39] Speaker 1: because it would have been somewhat beneath his dignity to
[2:41] Speaker 1: not allow him to do that. But they let Lamar
[2:45] Speaker 1: and the Ravens just get huge chunk plays walking down
[2:49] Speaker 1: the field on them in the fourth quarter in a
[2:52] Speaker 1: way where if your job is on the line and
[2:55] Speaker 1: these sorts of things happen, you're not going to have
[2:58] Speaker 1: a job. Right? Like that's the game. That's how that
[3:03] Speaker 1: happens to work. Instead, it wound up being the Ravens who,
[3:08] Speaker 1: you know, let a pretty nondescript offense take them down
[3:13] Speaker 1: the field, and then we don't talk about this nearly enough, Ryan.
[3:16] Speaker 1: I guess it's because we don't think about the Ravens
[3:18] Speaker 1: as being one of these star-crossed kind of teams, and
[3:20] Speaker 1: that's fine, but they got a long track record of
[3:23] Speaker 1: everything going wrong at the end, right? When Lee Evans
[3:26] Speaker 1: dropped that pass way back when, and then Lee Evans
[3:30] Speaker 1: dropped the pass, and then Billy Cundiff missed the kick.
[3:33] Speaker 3: Right.
[3:34] Speaker 1: This kick that they just missed with the rookie in
[3:37] Speaker 1: this game, Zay Flowers with the way he fumbled up
[3:40] Speaker 1: the game while they still had a chance. against the
[3:42] Speaker 1: Chiefs in 2023? What happened last year with Mark Andrews?
[3:46] Speaker 3: Right. And you have to remember, John Harbaugh has this
[3:50] Speaker 3: insane record. I think it's now 18 double-digit leads blown.
[3:53] Speaker 2: Yes.
[3:54] Speaker 3: Yeah, which he added to last night.
[3:56] Speaker 1: But if this was Boston in the 1990s? Right. we
[3:59] Speaker 1: would be talking about like, if this was back in
[4:01] Speaker 1: the day, man, somebody would have brought a goat to
[4:04] Speaker 1: the stadium, you know, like all kinds of things. It
[4:06] Speaker 1: had been the curse of, of, of, I don't even know.
[4:09] Speaker 3: Right. Sports debate topic.
[4:10] Speaker 4: There is.
[4:11] Speaker 1: Yeah. Oh yeah.
[4:12] Speaker 3: Do you believe curses are real? Yes.
[4:14] Speaker 1: It had all been, it would have all been there
[4:15] Speaker 1: for the things that had happened with them. And Lamar
[4:18] Speaker 1: Jackson is in this somewhat interesting space to me. And
[4:21] Speaker 1: I'm asking, I don't know if you remember this. Okay. 2010,
[4:25] Speaker 1: 2010 NBA playoffs, second round game five, Celtics, Cavaliers. It's
[4:32] Speaker 1: hard to argue that LeBron... Well, LeBron quit, yes. It's
[4:34] Speaker 1: hard to say he didn't quit. It looked very much
[4:36] Speaker 1: like he quit. He was so good that he looked
[4:39] Speaker 1: quit-ish in game six. With a triple-double. Right, right. It's
[4:43] Speaker 1: hard for me to say he quit when he got
[4:45] Speaker 1: the triple-double, right? But I saw where people are coming from. 2011,
[4:48] Speaker 1: I don't think he quit. I just think they ran
[4:51] Speaker 1: out of gas. It was, yeah, it was all here.
[4:53] Speaker 1: Like it was a, it was a lot for him.
[4:57] Speaker 1: And that version of him reminds me a lot of
[4:59] Speaker 1: what we've seen in Lamar Jackson and a lot of
[5:01] Speaker 1: these playoffs where he's come up short, where you've seen
[5:03] Speaker 1: the stress, right? You've seen him coming to the sideline
[5:06] Speaker 1: and slamming the helmet and everything else, right? Like he
[5:09] Speaker 1: gets tight. I think enough has happened for us to
[5:12] Speaker 1: say that with a measure of confidence. Last year against
[5:15] Speaker 1: Buffalo was tight early, brought it back together, and I
[5:19] Speaker 1: thought if you were a Ravens fan, you had to
[5:21] Speaker 1: feel good about that, right? That he did not become
[5:23] Speaker 1: imprisoned by whatever was going on in his head. He
[5:26] Speaker 1: shook it off, and then, of course, Mark Andrews was like.
[5:28] Speaker 3: I don't want to win.
[5:30] Speaker 1: What's with you talking about? I don't want to win.
[5:33] Speaker 1: It wasn't that.
[5:35] Speaker 1: I remember people thinking that somehow there was a Trumpy
[5:38] Speaker 1: element to what had gone on. I don't remember exactly why.
[5:42] Speaker 3: Yes, I don't remember either.
[5:44] Speaker 1: I can't remember exactly what went down, but it was
[5:46] Speaker 1: a lot of people who were saying that they thought
[5:50] Speaker 1: that he chose country over party. He chose country over TV.
[5:56] Speaker 1: In that moment, I wish I could remember the details,
[6:00] Speaker 1: but I remember and somebody y'all gonna get in these
[6:02] Speaker 1: YouTube comments. Y'all gonna talk about it. But I remember
[6:06] Speaker 1: joking with people about it and then realizing in the
[6:09] Speaker 1: replies that they weren't joking.
[6:11] Speaker 3: No, that's the thing when you start alleging conspiracy theories.
[6:13] Speaker 3: There's always people who really believe it.
[6:15] Speaker 1: Oh, no, no, no. But that was, it was tense times, Ryan.
[6:18] Speaker 3: Yes.
[6:19] Speaker 1: This is after the, this is around inauguration. Yeah, this
[6:24] Speaker 1: is a tough situation for the people or anything. But
[6:27] Speaker 1: this game, Lamar Jackson, I saw a stat. And of course,
[6:31] Speaker 1: this is like, you know, this is what I call
[6:33] Speaker 1: a database stat where somebody just takes everything from the game,
[6:35] Speaker 1: puts it into a database and asks it to do
[6:37] Speaker 1: calls and like what's never happened before. but this is
[6:40] Speaker 1: the first time anybody had taken the lead in the
[6:42] Speaker 1: fourth quarter with two plays over 50 yards, and they
[6:46] Speaker 1: still lost the game?
[6:48] Speaker 3: Man, that feels impossible.
[6:51] Speaker 1: Now, I want to be very clear about this. Good
[6:53] Speaker 1: on Lamar Jackson for making those throws, but it would
[6:57] Speaker 1: be like me throwing the ball to somebody in my
[6:59] Speaker 1: apartment right now. Where nobody is, nobody else is. Like, like,
[7:05] Speaker 1: Zay Flowers was butt naked open. I don't know what
[7:08] Speaker 1: the Steelers were playing, right? Zay Flowers out there, butt
[7:11] Speaker 1: naked open, but the plays were getting made. The Ravens
[7:14] Speaker 1: got it done. And that's why I'm saying that if
[7:17] Speaker 1: the Steelers had lost that game, it would have been
[7:21] Speaker 1: really hard not to fire Mike Tomlin. In fact, if
[7:24] Speaker 1: I was the Steelers, I might have even considered being like, hey, hey, hey, everybody, fans, fans,
[7:29] Speaker 1: if you could please stay in your seats. We have
[7:32] Speaker 1: a very special ceremony. Come on out here, Mike. You
[7:35] Speaker 1: didn't know we were going to do this. No, no, no, no.
[7:37] Speaker 1: It's okay. Chill out, chill out, chill out. Look whose
[7:42] Speaker 1: name is in the ring of honor.
[7:44] Speaker 3: I thought you were going to give him the watch.
[7:48] Speaker 1: I guess we could do that next. Hold on, hold on,
[7:50] Speaker 1: hold on. We're not finished. We're not finished. Look at this.
[7:53] Speaker 1: It's black and it's gold and it's got diamonds in it. Yeah,
[7:56] Speaker 1: you like that, don't you? Come on, come on. Come on,
[7:59] Speaker 1: bring your wife and kids out. Come on down to
[8:00] Speaker 1: the field. Dad needs you right now. Dad's going to
[8:03] Speaker 1: need a hug.
[8:04] Speaker 3: Right?
[8:04] Speaker 1: Like, you go ahead and do that right then and there.
[8:07] Speaker 1: The players on the sideline, you do that shit like
[8:09] Speaker 1: they did when Krzyzewski retired.
[8:11] Speaker 3: Yeah.
[8:12] Speaker 1: Remember when they lost? Yes. And then they still made
[8:14] Speaker 1: the kids sit out there? Oh, my God. That'll never
[8:19] Speaker 1: get old.
[8:20] Speaker 3: And I think that's interesting with Lamar, right, is, like,
[8:23] Speaker 3: similar to LeBron, we have all this simmering reporting about
[8:27] Speaker 3: his contract and renegotiating and figuring out his future and
[8:30] Speaker 3: his un-nappy... And then he comes out and has, I know,
[8:35] Speaker 3: a weird end to the season.
[8:36] Speaker 1: But this was actually, this is what I meant to
[8:39] Speaker 1: say when it relates to LeBron. And I don't know
[8:41] Speaker 1: if you remember this, but in 2012, where he was
[8:46] Speaker 1: comically good, right? Like they came off that lockout and
[8:49] Speaker 1: 2012 and 2013 LeBron James. 2012 is the, is that's
[8:51] Speaker 1: the 23 or 24 game win streak, correct? Correct. I
[8:59] Speaker 1: think that's 2013. 2013 is the second year, yeah. Yeah,
[9:02] Speaker 1: but it was what happened in 2012, though. They had
[9:07] Speaker 1: a run of games because I don't for those of
[9:09] Speaker 1: you who aren't old enough to remember this or who
[9:11] Speaker 1: weren't around. America has never been fixated on one sports
[9:15] Speaker 1: team the way we were on the Miami Heat for
[9:16] Speaker 1: those four years. Nothing has ever been the same. They
[9:19] Speaker 1: were A1 on highly questionable basically every game they played
[9:24] Speaker 1: unless it was the Super Bowl. It was that level.
[9:27] Speaker 1: But they were playing a lot of games that were
[9:29] Speaker 1: coming down late and LeBron was hitting a lot of
[9:33] Speaker 1: game winning shots except they were losing the games.
[9:37] Speaker 4: Right?
[9:37] Speaker 1: Like, it was these shots with two seconds left, and
[9:39] Speaker 1: LeBron is nailing them week after week after week. But
[9:44] Speaker 1: none of them counted, at least in terms in the
[9:46] Speaker 1: eyes of people who questioned whether or not he was clutch.
[9:49] Speaker 1: Because then they would come back and somebody would hit, like,
[9:50] Speaker 1: a half-court shot or, like, a fadeaway 27-footer.
[9:53] Speaker 3: Yeah, I remember this. I was watching. I mean, I
[9:55] Speaker 3: was in college, so I was watching a lot of
[9:56] Speaker 3: NBA basketball and a lot of sports TV.
[9:58] Speaker 5: Yes.
[9:58] Speaker 1: I mean, it just carried. happening over and over again
[10:01] Speaker 1: and that's what it feels like now with lamar like
[10:03] Speaker 1: they got he got it done against buffalo last year
[10:06] Speaker 1: but they lost the game he kind of pulled it
[10:08] Speaker 1: together against the chiefs the year before but they lost
[10:11] Speaker 1: the game and he made huge plays he was treating
[10:14] Speaker 1: the stealers like they were the like like the bangles
[10:18] Speaker 1: getting those plays and they still manage to lose they
[10:21] Speaker 1: got them down there in the field goal range and
[10:25] Speaker 1: they still manage to lose that game like that's a
[10:31] Speaker 1: tough goal it really really is but either he or
[10:35] Speaker 1: the coach has to go um i talked about this
[10:38] Speaker 1: on dominique foxworth's podcast the other day um I believe,
[10:42] Speaker 1: and if you have not seen the Mike Preston reporting,
[10:44] Speaker 1: Mike Preston of the Baltimore Sun, he's talking about Lamar
[10:46] Speaker 1: Jackson falling asleep in meetings and all the changes that
[10:50] Speaker 1: the Ravens have made to work around him and how
[10:53] Speaker 1: it's caused this kind of simmering sort of feud between
[10:56] Speaker 1: him and John Harbaugh. And the truth is, if you
[10:59] Speaker 1: have to pick one of these, it's no question. You
[11:02] Speaker 1: take Lamar. This is it. Lamar Jackson, who, by the way,
[11:05] Speaker 1: has no more guaranteed money. left in his contract. I
[11:09] Speaker 1: have seen the reporting that his mother, who is his
[11:13] Speaker 1: de facto agent, would like for him to be back
[11:17] Speaker 1: in Miami. I have heard other people say the same thing.
[11:23] Speaker 1: I'm just saying, we trying to get back to Miami
[11:25] Speaker 1: so we can handle some business. Unless your business is cocaine. Nah, nah,
[11:33] Speaker 1: that's not, that's not wise. It's going to throw it
[11:37] Speaker 1: out there. That's not wise. So, yeah, my guess, John
[11:41] Speaker 1: Harbaugh is going to be out of there. And I
[11:46] Speaker 1: take somewhat of an example from my own life. If
[11:48] Speaker 1: it does happen, you know, I did a lot. I
[11:52] Speaker 1: spent a lot of time of my career working on
[11:55] Speaker 1: Around the Horn. And, you know, it's obviously very, very
[11:59] Speaker 1: important to where I wound up, a reason that a
[12:02] Speaker 1: lot of you even have any idea who I am.
[12:04] Speaker 4: Right.
[12:04] Speaker 1: It's a very important show to me, Around the Horn.
[12:07] Speaker 1: had been on for, I want to call it 21
[12:11] Speaker 1: or 22 years when they decided to let it go.
[12:16] Speaker 1: And I would talk to Tony Reale and I would
[12:20] Speaker 1: talk to Aaron Solomon, who was the coordinator producer of
[12:24] Speaker 1: the show. And when it was all over, I always
[12:27] Speaker 1: said congratulations to them, but I never said, I'm sorry.
[12:31] Speaker 1: I never said that I felt bad about the show
[12:33] Speaker 1: ending because it's just like, what, 23 years? You know
[12:37] Speaker 1: what I mean? Like you get 22 years in this business.
[12:40] Speaker 1: I congratulate you on getting 22 years. Like you can't
[12:43] Speaker 1: really lock in on what didn't go right at the
[12:46] Speaker 1: end when you got to do this for 22 years.
[12:50] Speaker 1: You know what I mean? I did my show on
[12:52] Speaker 1: HBO and we got two years. And do you know
[12:54] Speaker 1: how excited I was about the second? You know what
[12:57] Speaker 1: I mean? Like this is what it is. John Harbaugh
[13:01] Speaker 1: has worked that job for 18 years. Congratulations to you,
[13:07] Speaker 1: big dog. If they let you go, it is not sad.
[13:10] Speaker 1: It is not sad at all if they let you go.
[13:12] Speaker 1: You have been victorious in the course of this. You
[13:15] Speaker 1: might be a little bit salty that the guy who
[13:17] Speaker 1: saved your fucking job seven years ago is the reason
[13:20] Speaker 1: that you got fired. I know why maybe that wouldn't
[13:23] Speaker 1: feel so good, but what did I just say? You
[13:26] Speaker 1: know what I mean? Good for you. And by the way,
[13:30] Speaker 1: remember this. When the Steelers have to play the Houston Texans,
[13:36] Speaker 1: At the crib, and Ryan, I don't think that's going
[13:40] Speaker 1: to work out well for the Steelers at all. Like,
[13:43] Speaker 1: good for them that they'll get Metcalf back, but the
[13:45] Speaker 1: Texans are your great example of a team that caught
[13:48] Speaker 1: up to the point differential, right? A team whose record
[13:51] Speaker 1: caught up to all the advanced numbers.
[13:53] Speaker 3: If I was Aaron Rodgers and I'm out there looking,
[13:56] Speaker 3: not trying to get hit, the thing I don't want
[13:58] Speaker 3: to see is Will Anderson on one side and Daniil
[14:01] Speaker 3: Hunter on the other side and Derek Stingley guarding my
[14:04] Speaker 3: best receiver.
[14:05] Speaker 1: Yes. Oh, this is... Are these guys LSU's backup team?
[14:10] Speaker 3: Well, that's two LSU guys and, I mean, Williamson was
[14:13] Speaker 3: an Alabama All-Star.
[14:15] Speaker 1: Yes, he was.
[14:16] Speaker 3: Yeah, so, like, that is... And again, D'Amico Ryan scheming
[14:20] Speaker 3: up how to stop my very bland offense.
[14:23] Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, the Arthur Smith special. Hey, man, Arthur Smith
[14:26] Speaker 1: figured out how to hand it off to the tight
[14:27] Speaker 1: end now, boy. All right. Like, that's what he's got.
[14:32] Speaker 1: By the way, nobody... I give Arthur Smith credit in
[14:35] Speaker 1: the sense that I don't know if I was Arthur Smith,
[14:37] Speaker 1: if I would have a real job.
[14:40] Speaker 3: No.
[14:41] Speaker 1: No. And for those of you who don't know, Arthur
[14:43] Speaker 1: Smith's father is the founder of Federal Express.
[14:45] Speaker 3: I think it's his grandfather.
[14:47] Speaker 4: No.
[14:48] Speaker 3: It's the father. Yes. His daddy?
[14:54] Speaker 1: That's his dad. And so it's so interesting because Arthur
[14:56] Speaker 1: went to Carolina. He was at Carolina in the time
[14:59] Speaker 1: that I was there. They had another son named Cannon,
[15:02] Speaker 1: who I want to say played quarterback at Miami. And
[15:05] Speaker 1: I don't know how good any of these guys were,
[15:07] Speaker 1: but I imagine they had to be the hottest recruits
[15:10] Speaker 1: because you're just like, yo, man, we can get you
[15:12] Speaker 1: on board here. We got a chance that they're going
[15:14] Speaker 1: to give us some money.
[15:16] Speaker 3: Right?
[15:17] Speaker 1: Like, just, you know, what's a little bit of money
[15:18] Speaker 1: to him is all the money in the world to us. Like,
[15:21] Speaker 1: just you watch out. When Memphis football gets good, if
[15:24] Speaker 1: it ever happens, it's going to be because of that.
[15:27] Speaker 1: But anyway, yeah, D'Amico on one side, Arthur Smith, look,
[15:30] Speaker 1: say what you want about Mike Tomlin. Mike Tomlin is
[15:32] Speaker 1: not beating you with scheme. No. On offense or defense.
[15:35] Speaker 3: Right.
[15:36] Speaker 1: That's not the game that he plays. That's not what
[15:39] Speaker 1: it is that he provides. And I think they are
[15:41] Speaker 1: going to be out-talented in this game they're going to play.
[15:45] Speaker 1: And their quarterback is a million years old. Do not
[15:48] Speaker 1: believe that he is out of the woods, but do
[15:50] Speaker 1: believe this. I couldn't believe how happy he was about
[15:53] Speaker 1: winning that division. Did you see how happy they were
[15:55] Speaker 1: at the end of that game? Like, has he maybe
[15:58] Speaker 1: recalibrated expectations that they felt like that was a win?
[16:01] Speaker 3: I mean, that looked like a guy who thought he
[16:05] Speaker 3: was coaching for his job. Yes. Like, I mean, there
[16:08] Speaker 3: was some rumblings about some of, you know, whether or
[16:12] Speaker 3: not they'd renew his contract, whether or not he was
[16:13] Speaker 3: already looking at television as another option. Like, that looked
[16:17] Speaker 3: like a guy who was, you know, again, thought he
[16:20] Speaker 3: saved his job last night.
[16:22] Speaker 1: Yeah, but here's the thing about that to me. We
[16:28] Speaker 1: never know what they're doing. Every time we thought the
[16:30] Speaker 1: block was hot on Mike Tomlin, it wasn't. They were like,
[16:34] Speaker 1: oh yeah, we extended his contract 18 months ago. Y'all
[16:36] Speaker 1: ain't know? We're not. I do think the Steelers understand
[16:41] Speaker 1: this part. If they would be changing coaches, it would
[16:45] Speaker 1: be for the sake of doing so.
[16:47] Speaker 4: Right.
[16:47] Speaker 1: It would do it be.
[16:48] Speaker 3: Probably, especially this cycle when there's not, it's not like
[16:51] Speaker 3: they could go out and like change their whole identity
[16:53] Speaker 3: and get Ben Johnson like last year. Right.
[16:55] Speaker 1: Right. This is what I'm saying. Like who, who do
[16:57] Speaker 1: you want to get and be, and this is an
[16:58] Speaker 1: important part. What makes you think they want to change
[17:00] Speaker 1: their identity?
[17:02] Speaker 3: Right.
[17:03] Speaker 1: Like the identity of this franchise is not a byproduct
[17:05] Speaker 1: of Mike Tomlin. That's coming from up top. Like Mike
[17:08] Speaker 1: Tomlin was a, like a four, three Tony Dungy sort
[17:11] Speaker 1: of dude on defense. And they brought him in and
[17:13] Speaker 1: were like, yes, you're going to run our defense. The
[17:16] Speaker 1: defense that we've been running for all this time. It's
[17:18] Speaker 1: a little cheaper to get linebackers than it is to
[17:20] Speaker 1: get defensive ends.
[17:21] Speaker 3: Right.
[17:21] Speaker 1: So yeah, we're going to, we're, we're, we're going to
[17:23] Speaker 1: do that. Like you can make this change, but who's,
[17:28] Speaker 1: who's Mike Tomlin for them. Becomes the question. And you
[17:31] Speaker 1: know what? Put a pin in that thought. Three, two, one.
[17:41] Speaker 3: All right.
[17:41] Speaker 1: So now we get into talking about our Black Monday conversation.
[17:46] Speaker 1: And I got to be honest with you, at least
[17:49] Speaker 1: as of this moment at 938 Eastern Time on Monday morning, Ryan,
[17:53] Speaker 1: Monday ain't been as black as we thought it was
[17:54] Speaker 1: going to be. So far, just Raheem Morris.
[17:58] Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, there were some other people who, you know,
[18:01] Speaker 3: might go down, but they haven't gone down yet.
[18:03] Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, so for the Black Monday with black and italics,
[18:07] Speaker 1: we got, as far as candidates go, I don't, we
[18:13] Speaker 1: got six, but like, it's kind of like five. Yes,
[18:19] Speaker 1: I'm talking about Mike McDonald.
[18:22] Speaker 3: Mike McDaniel.
[18:24] Speaker 1: Mike McDonald is actually doing a very good job with
[18:27] Speaker 1: the Seattle Seahawks.
[18:28] Speaker 3: My one coach of the year.
[18:29] Speaker 1: Yes, yes. And has anybody asked Mike McDonald of the
[18:33] Speaker 1: Seahawks if he could sing? Anytime you're here. Anybody ask
[18:38] Speaker 1: him to do that? No? Hey, all I'm saying is this.
[18:45] Speaker 1: If Mike McDonald can sing like Michael McDonald, he might
[18:49] Speaker 1: wind up on the Black Monday list in his own way,
[18:52] Speaker 1: kind of like Michael McDonald did.
[18:54] Speaker 3: Michael McDonald still in the league, still touring.
[18:56] Speaker 1: Yes, he is. Yes, he is. By the way, if
[18:58] Speaker 1: Mike McDonald can sing as good as Michael McDonald, we
[19:01] Speaker 1: might trade Mike McDaniel for Mike McDonald and maybe even
[19:06] Speaker 1: give you guys a late round pick to go along
[19:09] Speaker 1: with it. But anyway, Mike McDaniel might still be keeping
[19:14] Speaker 1: the job. And do you think Steven Ross knew it
[19:20] Speaker 1: when he hired him?
[19:24] Speaker 3: I'm sure he was told, but he might have doubted it.
[19:26] Speaker 1: He was told about who? The only person that could
[19:29] Speaker 1: tell him is Mike McDaniel. Like, when they went through,
[19:32] Speaker 1: when he got the list from the Fritz Pollard people,
[19:35] Speaker 1: and he was like, hey, you guys got a mistake here.
[19:39] Speaker 3: Someone's in the wrong column?
[19:40] Speaker 1: Yeah, it says Mike McDaniel. Like, what are you talking about?
[19:42] Speaker 1: We just met him. He just came in here. Like,
[19:44] Speaker 1: that's not... Like, no chance. Like, Mike McDaniel does not
[19:47] Speaker 1: have to own this. I think we have to give him...
[19:49] Speaker 1: I don't think people give him nearly enough credit for
[19:52] Speaker 1: the fact that telling us that he was black, he
[19:55] Speaker 1: didn't have anything to gain from that in his industry whatsoever.
[19:58] Speaker 1: He chose to. We might go to his house and
[20:00] Speaker 1: find out that, like, he might be like Louis Armstrong.
[20:05] Speaker 1: Little did you know, he hates the white man's guts.
[20:08] Speaker 1: Who's to say? Have no idea. Anyway, our other candidates
[20:13] Speaker 1: in this discussion are Mike Tomlin, who not quite out
[20:17] Speaker 1: of the woods yet. Domingo Ryans, you straight. We saw
[20:23] Speaker 1: what happened with Raheem. I feel like I missed one,
[20:26] Speaker 1: but I'm kind of scanning through the list really fast. Oh,
[20:29] Speaker 1: Aaron Glenn.
[20:31] Speaker 4: Who.
[20:33] Speaker 1: I really don't understand how you justify not firing him
[20:36] Speaker 1: after the team didn't get no interceptions the whole year.
[20:39] Speaker 1: And they look, they mailed it in for the rest
[20:42] Speaker 1: of the year, like when they traded Sauce Gardner and
[20:44] Speaker 1: they traded Quentin Williams. But, Ron, I couldn't believe how
[20:47] Speaker 1: and we've been living here for a long time. I
[20:50] Speaker 1: could not believe how bad they were.
[20:51] Speaker 3: I mean, again, we already threw around the quit word
[20:55] Speaker 3: that team this month. I mean, I don't know how
[20:58] Speaker 3: much I would try if Brady Cook was my quarterback,
[21:00] Speaker 3: but that team.
[21:02] Speaker 1: Who was the quarterback?
[21:03] Speaker 3: Brady Cook.
[21:04] Speaker 1: Who is that?
[21:05] Speaker 3: He played for Missouri.
[21:08] Speaker 1: Like recently?
[21:09] Speaker 3: Yeah. I think he was a seventh round pick, but again. Wow.
[21:13] Speaker 3: I mean, again, you went from Justin Fields to Tyrod
[21:17] Speaker 3: Taylor to Brady Cook.
[21:18] Speaker 1: Yeah. Look, man, if you had asked me if Brady
[21:22] Speaker 1: Cook was a quarterback for the New York Jets, I
[21:26] Speaker 1: the goaltender for the Winnipeg Jets, or the quarterback of
[21:30] Speaker 1: the Akron Zips. It could have been. You could have
[21:35] Speaker 1: told me that he was the hottest quarterback in the portal. Hell,
[21:37] Speaker 1: for all we know in NCAA rules, he might be
[21:40] Speaker 1: the hottest quarterback in the portal right now, baby. Like, yo,
[21:42] Speaker 1: they offering me a little bit more money to go
[21:45] Speaker 1: back to Mizzou, which y'all got to say about this.
[21:48] Speaker 1: But my question, if generally speaking, And this is why
[21:54] Speaker 1: the Raheem firing in Atlanta was a little strange because
[21:57] Speaker 1: they didn't quit.
[21:59] Speaker 3: They won four straight.
[22:01] Speaker 1: They won their last four to, by the way, finish
[22:03] Speaker 1: in a tie for the division lead while being eliminated
[22:06] Speaker 1: from the playoffs for the last month.
[22:08] Speaker 3: Right.
[22:09] Speaker 1: That is a strange year as it went down. They
[22:12] Speaker 1: have a weird roster of somewhat mismatched parts. They still
[22:18] Speaker 1: haven't figured it. They got a quarterback problem. I don't
[22:20] Speaker 1: think there's any way around that. They have heavily invested
[22:23] Speaker 1: in a man whose body, Probably can't get in two
[22:25] Speaker 1: men whose body bodies limit what you could do. They
[22:29] Speaker 1: did a great job drafting this year and they got
[22:31] Speaker 1: a lot of good players on defense. But if you
[22:34] Speaker 1: look at that team, how exactly are you going to
[22:36] Speaker 1: make things better? Now, from what I could tell, though,
[22:39] Speaker 1: about the Falcons is. As is often the case, when
[22:42] Speaker 1: a coach get fired and the record doesn't look so bad,
[22:45] Speaker 1: the people who watch the team all the time are like, hey.
[22:49] Speaker 1: It had to be done. Like they were a team
[22:53] Speaker 1: that the more you watch them, the more you believe
[22:56] Speaker 1: that they were not well coached. And you kind of
[22:58] Speaker 1: know it when you see it. And quite frankly, Arthur
[23:01] Speaker 1: Blake is too old to be trying to be patient.
[23:04] Speaker 1: If he want to see what happens, like he don't
[23:06] Speaker 1: already put himself in the ring of honor, for example, right?
[23:09] Speaker 1: This is not, he ain't talk about no five-year plan.
[23:15] Speaker 3: I mean, he famously didn't bring in Belichick because he's like,
[23:19] Speaker 3: I don't want to, you know, Cycle through coaches two
[23:21] Speaker 3: years later and look what they're doing now. They're cycling
[23:23] Speaker 3: the coach and the GM.
[23:25] Speaker 1: Right. And by the way, they're getting hell for not
[23:27] Speaker 1: hiring Belichick.
[23:28] Speaker 3: And I'm like... They made the right decision.
[23:29] Speaker 1: Say it again?
[23:30] Speaker 3: Sounds like they made the right decision.
[23:31] Speaker 1: Yo, that's what I was about to say. Like, if
[23:33] Speaker 1: your look back on it was we could have had
[23:34] Speaker 1: Bill Belichick, what are you talking about?
[23:36] Speaker 4: Right.
[23:36] Speaker 1: Like, were you not paying any... Here's my question. What
[23:39] Speaker 1: would Bill Belichick have done to Michael Pennix and Kirk
[23:41] Speaker 1: Cousins in a quarterback situation? Like, what... I think the
[23:46] Speaker 1: Falcons problems are somewhat fundamental. And by the way, the
[23:49] Speaker 1: Browns problems are similarly fundamental. The Colts decided to keep
[23:53] Speaker 1: Steichen and Chris Ballard. And I think in large part,
[23:57] Speaker 1: you had to look at what are we offering here?
[24:00] Speaker 1: Their quarterback situation is what are you going to put
[24:03] Speaker 1: Daniel Jones off the Achilles? You think that's going to
[24:07] Speaker 1: be the answer? Or, I mean, the best path to
[24:10] Speaker 1: save Steichen, saving his job is Anthony Richardson. The problem is,
[24:14] Speaker 1: is he going to be able to see? Like, literally,
[24:17] Speaker 1: after what happened with his face getting busted up and
[24:19] Speaker 1: everything else, like, who knows what happens next when it
[24:23] Speaker 1: comes to this guy? The Falcons. Pennix? I don't expect
[24:27] Speaker 1: Pennix to play next year.
[24:28] Speaker 3: I mean, it doesn't... You can only blow your knees
[24:32] Speaker 3: so many times.
[24:32] Speaker 1: That is correct, right? I don't imagine Kirk Cousins winds
[24:36] Speaker 1: up coming back. The Raiders, I got people asking me, like, yo,
[24:42] Speaker 1: so this Fernando Mendoza, like, is he what the Raiders need?
[24:46] Speaker 1: And Okay, I watched Mendoza. We'll talk a little bit
[24:50] Speaker 1: more about that game later. But I watched Mendoza there,
[24:53] Speaker 1: and Mendoza looks like something I've seen very many times,
[24:56] Speaker 1: which is a very good college quarterback. That is not–
[25:00] Speaker 1: I know what the number one pick in a draft
[25:02] Speaker 1: looked like. That ain't it. Like, even if you think
[25:05] Speaker 1: Cam Ward's not going to be that guy, you look
[25:06] Speaker 1: at Cam Ward with the Titans, and you're like, oh,
[25:09] Speaker 1: that guy was the number one pick in the draft. Like,
[25:11] Speaker 1: you see that. Mendoza? I don't know. I don't know
[25:17] Speaker 1: what you're going to do. But Pete's going to wind
[25:19] Speaker 1: up being out of there. Who else we think going
[25:21] Speaker 1: to wind up getting tossed on Nick Keister? Like, at
[25:23] Speaker 1: least with the Ravens, you better jump on that job
[25:25] Speaker 1: fast if you got that opportunity. Arizona, what are they
[25:28] Speaker 1: going to do? Like, I mean, I haven't heard about
[25:30] Speaker 1: if they're going to fire Gannon, but I don't know
[25:32] Speaker 1: how much longer they're going to keep doing that.
[25:34] Speaker 3: And apparently since Cincinnati, Joe Burrow and the receivers really
[25:37] Speaker 3: like Zach Taylor. And I don't, I don't know what
[25:39] Speaker 3: kind of, you know, me and they enjoy.
[25:41] Speaker 4: Yeah.
[25:42] Speaker 1: But I feel like those guys need to be happy.
[25:43] Speaker 1: They got their money.
[25:44] Speaker 3: Yeah.
[25:45] Speaker 1: Shut the fuck up and let's figure something else out.
[25:47] Speaker 1: I can't believe that man's had that job as long
[25:49] Speaker 1: as he has.
[25:50] Speaker 3: Right.
[25:50] Speaker 1: I mean, the credit he's been to a Superbowl, but
[25:53] Speaker 1: nobody came away from that. Like, Hey man, you know,
[25:55] Speaker 1: we've really been underestimating that Zach Taylor. Nah, that's not.
[25:59] Speaker 1: That's not how that felt. Oh, Ty Bowles. I forgot
[26:01] Speaker 1: he was also in the italic Black Monday.
[26:03] Speaker 3: That's the one we forgot, yeah.
[26:04] Speaker 1: Yeah, but they say they're going to keep everybody.
[26:06] Speaker 3: Yeah.
[26:07] Speaker 1: Good for him because he is not a great coach,
[26:11] Speaker 1: but he is a much better coach than he was
[26:13] Speaker 1: when he was with the Jets.
[26:14] Speaker 3: Oh, so much better.
[26:15] Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Like, he learned some things. Like,
[26:17] Speaker 1: his OG is Bruce Arians. And he picked up some things. Anything.
[26:22] Speaker 1: Anybody else? Are we sure Matt LaFleur going to keep
[26:24] Speaker 1: his job if they go out there? I mean, they
[26:26] Speaker 1: were the seventh seed. They go out here and lose
[26:27] Speaker 1: to the Bears.
[26:29] Speaker 3: And the game they're favored in. Yeah.
[26:31] Speaker 1: By the way, that job, I would jump on that pronto.
[26:36] Speaker 5: Right.
[26:36] Speaker 3: And then another coach that might lose his job if
[26:38] Speaker 3: they lose is Sean McDermott. Yes. And I.
[26:43] Speaker 1: They've given it as long as it could go. But
[26:44] Speaker 1: they don't feel like a team that needs to fire
[26:47] Speaker 1: their coach. But what else are you going to do? Like,
[26:52] Speaker 1: if you're at the point of trying to make a
[26:53] Speaker 1: change to make this happen, I don't really know what
[26:55] Speaker 1: else you're going to do. Kevin O'Connell is not going
[26:57] Speaker 1: to get fired this year, but he's got to be
[26:59] Speaker 1: on the hot seat for next year, right?
[27:01] Speaker 3: I mean, they're going to have to bring in another quarterback,
[27:03] Speaker 3: and if he doesn't get it figured out. Like, the
[27:05] Speaker 3: part of the reason they let Sam Darnold go, and
[27:07] Speaker 3: someone else we're going to talk about later in the show,
[27:11] Speaker 3: Kevin O'Connell is the quarterback whisperer. He might be, but
[27:15] Speaker 3: he certainly didn't fix J.J. McCarthy.
[27:18] Speaker 1: They hate that kid. Did you see that press conference,
[27:21] Speaker 1: not this last game, but the week before, where McCarthy
[27:24] Speaker 1: did the gritty in the end zone, and apparently he
[27:26] Speaker 1: had been told not to do that?
[27:29] Speaker 3: I did not see that, no.
[27:29] Speaker 1: Okay, so he did a gritty into the end zone.
[27:32] Speaker 1: The coaches had told him not to do that, and
[27:35] Speaker 1: he said, well, they told me not to, so that
[27:37] Speaker 1: made me want to do it more. Son, you have
[27:38] Speaker 1: to grow up.
[27:40] Speaker 4: Right.
[27:40] Speaker 1: And did O'Connell have that conversation every day?
[27:45] Speaker 5: Right.
[27:45] Speaker 1: So O'Connell is talking after the game and he says
[27:48] Speaker 1: something about, yeah. And JJ, he, you know, he always
[27:53] Speaker 1: talks about that 40 yard dash that he brags about
[27:56] Speaker 1: how he didn't have to run. And I heard that.
[27:58] Speaker 1: And I was like, I said, there's a fossil podcast, too.
[28:01] Speaker 1: This is the way people talked about Austin Rivers when
[28:03] Speaker 1: he was at Duke. I'm just saying that to say
[28:06] Speaker 1: that they don't like him. And they are so sour
[28:10] Speaker 1: on him in a way. The guy's only been there for, like,
[28:12] Speaker 1: played for a year. He's been consistent. They are down
[28:17] Speaker 1: on him. But what are you going to do to
[28:19] Speaker 1: fix that? Who's arching and coming out? And by the way,
[28:26] Speaker 1: Nate Tice looks like he was right.
[28:28] Speaker 3: Right.
[28:29] Speaker 1: He looks like he's the best of those guys.
[28:31] Speaker 3: Did you see that run?
[28:32] Speaker 1: Yes.
[28:34] Speaker 3: He's not fast for a man. He's fast, fast.
[28:36] Speaker 1: Dude, when people forget, he's not fast for a Manning
[28:39] Speaker 1: because the OG Manning was fast. Every day, Archie Manning
[28:45] Speaker 1: had to be so ashamed at how slow those last
[28:49] Speaker 1: two boys were.
[28:50] Speaker 3: Right, and the oldest boy was a wide receiver.
[28:52] Speaker 1: That's right. Coop was a wide receiver, and that is
[28:55] Speaker 1: Archie's dad. But no, this is in the Archie Manning archetype.
[28:59] Speaker 1: This right here. I think Archie was like, look, man.
[29:02] Speaker 1: I haven't been able to feel my left thumb for
[29:05] Speaker 1: 30 years. Cause all that running, learn how to do
[29:07] Speaker 1: the pocket son. It'll be, it'll be better for like,
[29:10] Speaker 1: I just, it's been so long. And Archie Manning is
[29:13] Speaker 1: a generation of so removed for me that people just
[29:15] Speaker 1: don't understand what the Manning thing actually is. No, no, no.
[29:18] Speaker 1: Arch is in line with the actual factual archetype of
[29:22] Speaker 1: the Manning quarterback, but he's not going to be in
[29:26] Speaker 1: this draft. There's a small chance. Trinidad Chambliss will be
[29:29] Speaker 1: in this draft, but he's small. Like, What is that
[29:34] Speaker 1: going to turn out to be? This is a weird year.
[29:37] Speaker 1: that if there ain't so many coaching jobs but remember
[29:40] Speaker 1: cleveland still got deshaun watson on the payroll next.
[29:43] Speaker 3: Year yeah we haven't even mentioned cleveland yes like i
[29:46] Speaker 3: mean stefansi got canned about a half an hour ago
[29:48] Speaker 3: and talk about a situation you do not want to
[29:50] Speaker 3: walk into.
[29:50] Speaker 1: No because hey man um shidora was good for vibes
[29:56] Speaker 1: he was bad at football It just wasn't like I've
[29:59] Speaker 1: heard the people make the argument that are watching him
[30:01] Speaker 1: that it was at it's obvious that he shouldn't have
[30:03] Speaker 1: been a fifth round pick. No, no, no. I don't
[30:05] Speaker 1: think that's true at all. I don't like it wasn't
[30:09] Speaker 1: an optimal situation. As I said from the very beginning,
[30:12] Speaker 1: of course, he wasn't set up for success. He played
[30:14] Speaker 1: for the Browns. I know it wasn't, but he did
[30:19] Speaker 1: seem like he was better than Dylan Gabriel. That that's
[30:23] Speaker 1: what they offer in you if you get that job.
[30:26] Speaker 1: Maybe you're the team that decides to figure out a
[30:28] Speaker 1: way to get Kyler Murray, for example. Like, I guess
[30:31] Speaker 1: I still say Trey Lance is there looking for somebody,
[30:33] Speaker 1: but there aren't many attractive jobs that are out there
[30:40] Speaker 1: to be taken. And we will see if that results
[30:43] Speaker 1: in teams deciding that they're not actually going to fire
[30:47] Speaker 1: their coaches. Maybe that's what it is. But it's going

[33:37] Speaker 3: All right, Bo, quick stories from over the weekend. The
[33:46] Speaker 3: transfer portal is open. Over one-third of D1 players are
[33:51] Speaker 3: in it. Texas Tech just got the biggest recruit in
[33:56] Speaker 3: the portal, a guy named Brendan Sorsby from Cincinnati. What
[34:00] Speaker 3: is your reaction to this? Who?
[34:04] Speaker 1: And look, this is the thing for me with the
[34:05] Speaker 1: transfer portal, because it's added this interesting wrinkle in terms
[34:09] Speaker 1: of being a fan or observer of college football. Like
[34:12] Speaker 1: it's free agency now.
[34:14] Speaker 3: Right.
[34:14] Speaker 1: But it's a different kind of free agency. It's free
[34:17] Speaker 1: agency that anybody can choose to participate in. Anybody can
[34:22] Speaker 1: get out here and just be like, oh, OK, I'm
[34:24] Speaker 1: out here. The problem is, right. I can't keep up
[34:27] Speaker 1: with all who all these people are.
[34:29] Speaker 3: Of course not.
[34:31] Speaker 1: I don't know who they all are. I don't think
[34:33] Speaker 1: it's necessarily wise. I think that there's a segment of
[34:38] Speaker 1: guys that this is your chance to get some money.
[34:41] Speaker 1: And so you're going to go ahead and get, especially
[34:43] Speaker 1: with a lot of these quarterbacks, right? You get paid
[34:46] Speaker 1: more for being a college quarterback than you get paid
[34:48] Speaker 1: for being a backup quarterback in the NFL. This is
[34:52] Speaker 1: your chance to get that bread in an economy that's
[34:54] Speaker 1: not going to provide many opportunities for you to get
[34:56] Speaker 1: a couple million dollars ever, right? So I get it
[35:01] Speaker 1: if you have your opportunities to go and to make
[35:04] Speaker 1: the moves. But everybody's in this portal, man. Fran Brown,
[35:08] Speaker 1: the coach at Syracuse, made the point like we're all
[35:09] Speaker 1: swapping seconds, right? Your number twos for my number twos.
[35:13] Speaker 1: There are situations that make perfect sense. For example, when
[35:16] Speaker 1: Jameson Williams transferred from Ohio State because they had three
[35:19] Speaker 1: first round wide receivers over him. So we had to
[35:22] Speaker 1: go to Alabama to be a top 15 pick and
[35:24] Speaker 1: wide receivers. Yeah. Yeah. We get that. Right. You know,
[35:28] Speaker 1: if you are behind somebody at quarterback where you don't
[35:32] Speaker 1: think you're going to get your opportunity to play. OK, cool.
[35:35] Speaker 1: Go ahead and do that. I still think for most
[35:39] Speaker 1: of you guys, you need to understand it. The long
[35:41] Speaker 1: money for you is to stay at one place and
[35:45] Speaker 1: build some relationships with some rich people. And those people
[35:48] Speaker 1: will take care of you and make sure that you
[35:50] Speaker 1: got a job. for the rest of your life.
[35:52] Speaker 3: Rich people who are clearly out here willing to spend money.
[35:55] Speaker 1: Yes, but this is what it is now, man. The
[35:59] Speaker 1: game is to get into that network and to have
[36:03] Speaker 1: some people who look out for you. That's the way
[36:05] Speaker 1: it goes. But I look up and it's these alerts
[36:08] Speaker 1: and trackers and everything. You know what it feels like, Ryan?
[36:11] Speaker 1: It's like trying to keep up with recruiting. Right.
[36:14] Speaker 3: But it's even more condensed.
[36:16] Speaker 1: Right. It's even more condensed, but it's still just as
[36:19] Speaker 1: many truly relevant people.
[36:21] Speaker 4: Right.
[36:21] Speaker 1: So if you are just as an observer, if you're
[36:24] Speaker 1: trying to keep up with recruiting, you can really keep
[36:27] Speaker 1: up with it on two levels. Keep up with like
[36:30] Speaker 1: the top 100 list kind of sorta. Or your school.
[36:33] Speaker 1: Your own school. Right. And then from your school, you
[36:35] Speaker 1: will kind of find out where different people are going.
[36:38] Speaker 1: like the offshoots of the guys that you're looking at.
[36:40] Speaker 1: But that's about the only way that you can keep
[36:42] Speaker 1: up with this. There's no way in the world I
[36:44] Speaker 1: can keep up with every goddamn player in the NCAA
[36:46] Speaker 1: because they all might be including division twos and division
[36:52] Speaker 1: ones and everything else. I can't do it.
[36:57] Speaker 3: No, it's insane. I don't think anyone, when they thought
[37:01] Speaker 3: the transfer portal was created, that, again, nearly a third
[37:05] Speaker 3: of D1 players would be in it.
[37:07] Speaker 1: And so but what's going to wind up happening is
[37:08] Speaker 1: two things. One, a bunch of these young guys are
[37:11] Speaker 1: going to wind up with musical chairs is over with
[37:13] Speaker 1: no place to go. Right. And I understand the argument
[37:18] Speaker 1: that is made that a lot of these guys are
[37:21] Speaker 1: being forced off their scholarships. No, I think some of
[37:24] Speaker 1: these guys are being forced off their scholarships. I don't
[37:27] Speaker 1: know how much of them, how many of them are
[37:29] Speaker 1: necessarily being told there won't be a place for you here.
[37:34] Speaker 1: I will make the note, though, that there is one
[37:37] Speaker 1: guy who has made it fairly clear that he's trying
[37:39] Speaker 1: to stick with his own guys and not run people
[37:42] Speaker 1: off of their scholarships. And the results haven't been that great.
[37:45] Speaker 1: And y'all laugh at him all the time. And that's Dabo. Right.
[37:50] Speaker 1: Dabo's trying to run a program that keeps it together
[37:52] Speaker 1: the way y'all say it should be kept together. And
[37:55] Speaker 1: he winds up being ridiculed. And then when the guys
[37:58] Speaker 1: get out here, you mad at the other people for
[38:00] Speaker 1: forcing them out. You understand what I mean? Bottom line.
[38:04] Speaker 1: And I'll keep it moving from here. I said this
[38:06] Speaker 1: from the beginning. I mean, you can go find I've
[38:09] Speaker 1: written this in places you can find 15 years ago.
[38:11] Speaker 1: I was saying this. There were changes that needed to
[38:13] Speaker 1: be made because the previous status quo was morally wrong
[38:18] Speaker 1: and indefensible. But we were not going to like what
[38:22] Speaker 1: we got as a result. And I personally don't like
[38:27] Speaker 1: what we've gotten as a result. You could argue that
[38:30] Speaker 1: in some ways the football and the sports have gotten
[38:32] Speaker 1: better and they're better players. Guys are more likely to stay. Okay, cool.
[38:36] Speaker 1: But it's too hard to follow, man. It's too hard
[38:38] Speaker 1: to follow. And there is a certain charm to the
[38:43] Speaker 1: idea of going to senior night and being like, yo,
[38:46] Speaker 1: I remember what it was like when he first got here.
[38:49] Speaker 1: And this is what it is now. That's a big
[38:51] Speaker 1: part of the appeal of this. And that's gone, man.
[38:56] Speaker 1: This is just something to watch. It's becoming more and
[38:58] Speaker 1: more simply something to watch on television, which I guess
[39:03] Speaker 1: is what these conferences are, just basically TV negotiating packages, right?
[39:06] Speaker 1: That's what it is. And you've taken something that has
[39:09] Speaker 1: a great cultural significance, and maybe it will have this
[39:11] Speaker 1: significance forever. We will see. But you just basically reduced
[39:14] Speaker 1: it to a television show, or that is what we
[39:16] Speaker 1: are in the process of doing. And I don't think
[39:18] Speaker 1: that's good business.
[39:20] Speaker 4: All right.
[39:20] Speaker 3: Speaking of a big TV show, Indiana blew off Alabama's
[39:23] Speaker 3: doors at the Rose Bowl, 38-3. Bo, does this say
[39:27] Speaker 3: more about Indiana or Alabama? Okay.
[39:30] Speaker 1: The answer is yes. This is what I did not realize, however,
[39:35] Speaker 1: about Indiana. They are old.
[39:39] Speaker 3: Yeah.
[39:39] Speaker 1: Like, this is the Bill Snyder era. Kansas state.
[39:43] Speaker 3: I mean, those Snyder almost like, um, Gonzaga. Yes.
[39:47] Speaker 1: Yeah.
[39:47] Speaker 3: Like just old, old guys.
[39:49] Speaker 1: Yeah. Like now the guys can stay in school forever.
[39:52] Speaker 1: Cause this is what, what is amazing about watching Indiana
[39:55] Speaker 1: and what they pulled off being Indiana is that it's
[39:59] Speaker 1: OB tries real name, no gimmicks. They are just lining
[40:03] Speaker 1: up and hitting you in hard, by the way, like,
[40:06] Speaker 1: and they got some orange, some bitches on that team.
[40:09] Speaker 1: That dude that broke Ty Simpson's ribs is 5'9, 170 pounds.
[40:12] Speaker 3: Yeah, they used to have a name for that.
[40:19] Speaker 1: He's that guy.
[40:19] Speaker 3: Yes.
[40:20] Speaker 1: But they are out here knocking the hell out of people.
[40:24] Speaker 1: That's the game they're playing. One of those running backs
[40:28] Speaker 1: in there, and I saw him going, I was like, oh,
[40:30] Speaker 1: you're not getting him with no arm tackles. They were
[40:34] Speaker 1: clearly better than Alabama. They made Alabama tap. By the
[40:40] Speaker 1: time the third quarter came around, Alabama tapped. They quit.
[40:45] Speaker 1: They gave up. They were standing across from something bigger
[40:49] Speaker 1: and better than them. It was bananas to observe and watch.
[40:56] Speaker 1: So I do think it says something about Alabama. I
[41:01] Speaker 1: think Indiana.
[41:04] Speaker 1: They figured out an approach. And by the way, I
[41:05] Speaker 1: don't know if you've seen it, but they're cleaning up
[41:07] Speaker 1: in the portal.
[41:08] Speaker 3: Yeah, they just got one of the big QBs from TCU.
[41:10] Speaker 1: They got a QB. They got a couple. They got
[41:12] Speaker 1: a big-time receiver. They got a bunch of other dudes that, again,
[41:15] Speaker 1: I've never heard of these people, but apparently they're all
[41:17] Speaker 1: very good according to the transfer portal tracker or whatever
[41:21] Speaker 1: it is that they've got. But, yeah, they've decided we're
[41:25] Speaker 1: going to get big old dudes because one thing that's
[41:27] Speaker 1: very important in college football is discipline. And older dudes,
[41:31] Speaker 1: just a little bit more mature.
[41:32] Speaker 3: Big difference between 23 and 19.
[41:34] Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah. And I think that matters, right? In terms,
[41:38] Speaker 1: especially if you're going to try to play the type
[41:39] Speaker 1: of ball that Indiana is trying to play. I think
[41:42] Speaker 1: that matters. As it relates to Alabama, Caleb DeBoer is
[41:47] Speaker 1: going to really wish they had lost that game against Oklahoma.
[41:51] Speaker 1: And he could have just gone and taken that Michigan job.
[41:55] Speaker 3: They were getting blown out too. They were down 17-0
[41:56] Speaker 3: in that game.
[41:57] Speaker 5: Yes.
[41:58] Speaker 1: Did I send you the guy from the message board?
[42:00] Speaker 1: That said, this shows how important coaching is. And I
[42:04] Speaker 1: want to, what is the exact quote? I want to
[42:08] Speaker 1: make sure I get this right because it was just
[42:10] Speaker 1: that funny. My man said, damn, I can't find it.
[42:15] Speaker 1: But basically he said, we are being, he's an Alabama fan.
[42:20] Speaker 1: We are being abused by three-star whites.
[42:23] Speaker 4: Right.
[42:25] Speaker 3: Right. Right, right, right. Like, just like. Like, was desegregation
[42:30] Speaker 3: that important? Yes. That's the kind of thing that they
[42:34] Speaker 3: have Alabama fans saying now.
[42:35] Speaker 1: This is what has happened, though, I think, very clearly
[42:39] Speaker 1: to Alabama.
[42:40] Speaker 2: Here we go.
[42:41] Speaker 1: This game shows how important coaching is now that college
[42:43] Speaker 1: football is so even at the top. Bunch of three-star
[42:45] Speaker 1: whites abusing us. White people have such low athletic self-esteem.
[42:52] Speaker 1: But what has happened, though, with the SEC, and I've
[42:54] Speaker 1: seen people mention this, that these SEC teams have been
[42:56] Speaker 1: getting mauled in the bowl game, and in the playoff.
[43:01] Speaker 1: And what the SEC used to have, where they had
[43:04] Speaker 1: comparative advantage over the rest of the country, was really
[43:06] Speaker 1: with defensive linemen. Big and fast.
[43:10] Speaker 3: Yeah, especially depth.
[43:12] Speaker 1: Depth. That's it. They could stack them. Just wave after
[43:16] Speaker 1: wave after wave of big, strong, fast defensive linemen. And
[43:20] Speaker 1: now those guys are going everywhere. And that, to me,
[43:24] Speaker 1: is the biggest change is they're at the line of scrimmage. Right.
[43:27] Speaker 1: Like this is not back in the day where like
[43:29] Speaker 1: the Big Ten teams can win because they can put
[43:32] Speaker 1: together good offensive lines. Like they've been able to do that.
[43:35] Speaker 1: But it's still the SEC where those big boys are
[43:38] Speaker 1: just a lot more athletic, just a lot more athletic.
[43:41] Speaker 1: And now everybody's got a few of those. And that
[43:43] Speaker 1: has completely altered the game.
[43:45] Speaker 3: I mean, look at Texas Tech. Like, that was their whole, like,
[43:48] Speaker 3: plan in the portal. We're going to get big, fast
[43:50] Speaker 3: defensive linemen.
[43:51] Speaker 1: Yeah, they did. But you know what, though? They ain't
[43:52] Speaker 1: have enough on the other side.
[43:54] Speaker 3: Right.
[43:54] Speaker 1: And they got mauled. Like, that was, for them, that
[43:57] Speaker 1: was embarrassing.
[44:00] Speaker 3: All right. Let's move on to the NFL. Sam Darnold
[44:03] Speaker 3: won't be playing this weekend because the Seahawks got the
[44:05] Speaker 3: number one overall seed. He becomes the first quarterback to
[44:09] Speaker 3: have 14 win back-to-back seasons since Tom Brady. Bo, do
[44:13] Speaker 3: you believe in Sam Darnold?
[44:15] Speaker 4: Nope.
[44:18] Speaker 1: My brother sent me a test because he don't really
[44:20] Speaker 1: follow that close. And he was like, Sam Darnold is,
[44:25] Speaker 1: dare I say, cold. And I was like, hey, big dog.
[44:28] Speaker 1: I can't even let you get out in the streets
[44:29] Speaker 1: talking like this, man.
[44:30] Speaker 3: That's a full time out.
[44:31] Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, yeah, man.
[44:32] Speaker 6: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
[44:33] Speaker 4: No, no, no.
[44:34] Speaker 1: I can't even. I can't even allow you. to put
[44:36] Speaker 1: yourself in this position saying these things. He is talented.
[44:40] Speaker 1: There's no question about the fact that he is talented.
[44:43] Speaker 1: Did you think he was great in that game on Saturday, though?
[44:45] Speaker 3: No.
[44:45] Speaker 1: Because I did not.
[44:47] Speaker 3: He's had a bad last month of the year.
[44:49] Speaker 1: Yeah. I came away from Saturday impressed that Kyle Shanahan
[44:53] Speaker 1: got that team as far as he did, especially they
[44:56] Speaker 1: had 11 starters on defense. I ain't never heard of
[45:00] Speaker 1: 10 of them. And the 11th is that big old
[45:03] Speaker 1: swole dude with the Arabic name that Patrick Mahomes put
[45:06] Speaker 1: his shoulder in his chest at the goal line that
[45:08] Speaker 1: one time. You remember that? That dude built like a
[45:11] Speaker 1: tank and got run through by Patrick Mahomes. I can't
[45:13] Speaker 1: believe that they have gotten this as far as they
[45:16] Speaker 1: have with the players that they have left on that team.
[45:19] Speaker 1: It has been shocking. However, Seattle, it's so funny. They're
[45:25] Speaker 1: playing offensively. Feels a lot like Pete Carroll football.
[45:29] Speaker 3: Yes.
[45:30] Speaker 1: Maybe not like.
[45:32] Speaker 3: I mean, Jackson was the best wide receiver that they've had. Yes.
[45:37] Speaker 3: In a long time.
[45:38] Speaker 1: Well, since since Steve Largent.
[45:40] Speaker 3: Yes.
[45:42] Speaker 1: That's how far back we're going. But the way they
[45:45] Speaker 1: run the ball, like I don't know enough about schematics
[45:47] Speaker 1: and stuff with a run game to be like, oh,
[45:49] Speaker 1: are they running a Pete Carroll type of run game? No,
[45:51] Speaker 1: but they're playing like Pete Carroll would prefer to run
[45:53] Speaker 1: the ball, play, run, run, run. And then when we
[45:56] Speaker 1: need to, we'll make big play throws with our athletic,
[45:58] Speaker 1: strong arm quarterback, which is what Russell Wilson was just
[46:01] Speaker 1: of a different size paradigm. But no, man, I ain't
[46:04] Speaker 1: trusting no Sam Darnold, baby. Like, I'm okay with being second.
[46:08] Speaker 1: You know what I mean? I ain't got to be
[46:09] Speaker 1: the first one to get on board with this. Y'all
[46:11] Speaker 1: let me know if it happens. I will give you
[46:13] Speaker 1: guys all the credit in the world. I promise you
[46:16] Speaker 1: that I will. At the same time, I root for
[46:19] Speaker 1: a team with Jared Goff as the quarterback, which is
[46:20] Speaker 1: to say I understand if you choose to believe in
[46:22] Speaker 1: Sam Darnold because it beats the alternative. Belief is a choice.
[46:26] Speaker 1: Belief is a choice.
[46:28] Speaker 3: All right, Bo. Getting the voicemails here. A lot of
[46:35] Speaker 3: good ones off the break. Here's our first one.
[46:38] Speaker 2: Yo, Bomani Jones. This is Rod from Delaware. So check
[46:42] Speaker 2: this out. I've got a real quick one for you here, right?
[46:45] Speaker 2: So I'm always into what words enter and exit our
[46:48] Speaker 2: popular lexicon or what phrases and stuff, right? And there's
[46:51] Speaker 2: one that's been in our lexicon for a while and
[46:54] Speaker 2: nobody really has talked about.
[46:56] Speaker 3: It much, right?
[46:57] Speaker 2: That's been widespread and that's people saying, I have the itis, right?
[47:01] Speaker 2: Now this used to be just a You know, just
[47:03] Speaker 2: uses the black folks thing. I remember the original comic
[47:06] Speaker 2: stand up where it came from. And then, you know,
[47:08] Speaker 2: as it became as popular, gained its popularity, people just
[47:12] Speaker 2: use the suffix. Oh, it's the itis. But people don't
[47:14] Speaker 2: have the entire full term or original version, as we
[47:19] Speaker 2: can put it. Right. So I want to know, do
[47:23] Speaker 2: people outside of black people know the full original version? terminology,
[47:28] Speaker 2: or is it okay with using the suffix? Because I
[47:31] Speaker 2: feel if people knew the entirety of it, it wouldn't
[47:35] Speaker 2: be so widespread. What do you think?
[47:39] Speaker 1: That actually is not a question for me.
[47:42] Speaker 3: I don't know.
[47:43] Speaker 1: That is a question for Ryan.
[47:45] Speaker 3: I do not know.
[47:46] Speaker 1: Oh, you do not know the origins?
[47:47] Speaker 3: I do not know. And I have a good rule.
[47:49] Speaker 3: If I don't know the origins, I try not to
[47:51] Speaker 3: use it.
[47:51] Speaker 1: Wise play. Wise play.
[47:53] Speaker 3: Defense wins championships.
[47:55] Speaker 5: Yeah, so.
[47:56] Speaker 1: It's very similar to, I've talked about this on this
[48:04] Speaker 1: show before. Let us say that there's something that is
[48:10] Speaker 1: broken in some form or fashion and it needs to
[48:13] Speaker 1: be repaired very quickly or perhaps haphazardly with a certain ingenuity.
[48:18] Speaker 1: There is a phrase that one might use.
[48:21] Speaker 6: Yeah.
[48:21] Speaker 1: So similar to that, Except it's the itis.
[48:26] Speaker 4: Copy.
[48:26] Speaker 1: I don't know if you've ever seen the movie Bamboozled
[48:29] Speaker 1: with the character named Sleep and Eat. Yes.
[48:32] Speaker 3: It's been a long time, but yes.
[48:33] Speaker 1: Yes, yes, yes. So we're in line with that. And
[48:36] Speaker 1: so to answer your question, brother, I assure you some
[48:40] Speaker 1: people know exactly what they're saying. Some. But also, this
[48:45] Speaker 1: is a dangerous thing of never forget that they can
[48:50] Speaker 1: hear you when you talk. And they are They kind
[48:54] Speaker 1: of like AI. They be learning. They be soaking up game. Now,
[48:59] Speaker 1: don't get me wrong. They use it in clumsy ways
[49:01] Speaker 1: that might make you want to throw them out the window,
[49:03] Speaker 1: but they can hear you.
[49:07] Speaker 3: All right, here's our next one.
[49:08] Speaker 5: Bomani, Ryan, this is Brady from Montana. Thanks for taking
[49:11] Speaker 5: my call. Though we entertain ourselves with the likes of
[49:15] Speaker 5: Conn Knipple, and though I appreciate the recent reference to
[49:18] Speaker 5: the infamous Peterman, I would like to lend my support
[49:21] Speaker 5: to your years-old pronunciation assistance for the quarterback who plays
[49:24] Speaker 5: on the practice squad for your Detroit Lions, the young
[49:28] Speaker 5: man who goes by the name of CJ. And for
[49:30] Speaker 5: those who contend that his last name is Bethard, I
[49:33] Speaker 5: must also assume that they think the collection of staff
[49:35] Speaker 5: and editors at a magazine is called a mass feed.
[49:39] Speaker 5: And when their kids are being annoying and won't leave
[49:41] Speaker 5: them alone, they refer to them as little shitheads. Bomani, I,
[49:45] Speaker 5: like you, am a beat-hard truther. Keep preaching the gospel.
[49:49] Speaker 5: And when the Providence Friars make the NCAA tournament and
[49:52] Speaker 5: their seven-footer from Latvia wearing number 17 hits a game-winning shot,
[49:56] Speaker 5: you know where I'll be.
[49:59] Speaker 1: I have to be honest with you, Ryan. I don't
[50:01] Speaker 1: think that this is my gimmick, but it may need
[50:03] Speaker 1: to become it.
[50:04] Speaker 3: Yeah.
[50:05] Speaker 1: CJ beat hard.
[50:06] Speaker 3: I had really, uh, it's a good, it's a good bit.
[50:10] Speaker 1: I had also need to go find out who this
[50:12] Speaker 1: guy is now.
[50:12] Speaker 3: And, uh, same.
[50:14] Speaker 1: And, uh, and what'd you call it?
[50:15] Speaker 3: Uh, I thought that was a reference you would understand,
[50:17] Speaker 3: but I, I, I.
[50:19] Speaker 1: Ain't gonna lie to you. Right. Maybe just baby. I
[50:23] Speaker 1: got so much clever in me that I can't even
[50:25] Speaker 1: keep it all straight. You know what I'm saying? But
[50:27] Speaker 1: I don't, every now and then, I saw somebody on
[50:29] Speaker 1: the internet the other day complaining about some blog post
[50:31] Speaker 1: I wrote like 15 years ago, and the post said
[50:33] Speaker 1: something like, remember when Bomani doubled down on this? And
[50:37] Speaker 1: I wanted to comment underneath. I don't remember when I
[50:40] Speaker 1: did that. Like, what are you talking about? Like, I
[50:44] Speaker 1: have no idea. I can't keep all this stuff straight.
[50:46] Speaker 1: All right, buddy number is 17. Oh, oh, have you
[50:50] Speaker 1: looked up number 17? I have not. um, his, everybody
[50:57] Speaker 1: needs to look up number 17 for Providence basketball. It'll
[51:01] Speaker 1: ruin it. If I try to say it and it'll
[51:03] Speaker 1: ruin it. If I spell it, you just need to
[51:06] Speaker 1: look at it. And I will say to Brady from Montana.
[51:09] Speaker 1: Good call, brother. Good call.
[51:11] Speaker 3: All right. Here's our last one.
[51:13] Speaker 5: Hey, Bo, this is Bert.
[51:15] Speaker 4: Uh, long time listener. First time caller, uh, and Raleigh,
[51:20] Speaker 4: by the way, Dayton, Ohio, uh.
[51:23] Speaker 7: My question is, if you had to build an all-star
[51:28] Speaker 7: ensemble similar to the player-haters ball, who are your four
[51:35] Speaker 7: haters you're picking to go with you and why? Who's
[51:37] Speaker 7: going to be your Buck Nasty? Who's going to be
[51:39] Speaker 7: your Silky Johnson? Pretty, or whatever Ashley Larry's name.
[51:45] Speaker 4: Was, and then the Asian dude. Who's going to be
[51:48] Speaker 4: your starting five as your player-haters ball? It can even
[51:51] Speaker 4: be time travel. Where would you go and do the
[51:54] Speaker 4: most hatin'? Thanks.
[51:56] Speaker 6: I mean, the truth is, brother, I don't even know
[51:58] Speaker 6: if I need four of them. I just feel like
[52:02] Speaker 6: I need one. He'll be tomorrow's guest, by the way.
[52:08] Speaker 6: Joel from Missouri City.
[52:10] Speaker 1: But the thing about Joel, and this is very important
[52:12] Speaker 1: to note, Joel does not do it for recreation. Like,
[52:19] Speaker 1: when Joel get to hatin', it's because Joel mean it.
[52:23] Speaker 3: Yeah, you don't have to get ready if you stay ready.
[52:25] Speaker 1: That's right. And by the way, once Joel starts, like,
[52:31] Speaker 1: it ain't stopping, right?
[52:33] Speaker 3: Oh, I see Joel on Twitter.
[52:35] Speaker 1: Yeah, he's way high on the list. Rest in peace
[52:38] Speaker 1: to Billy Packer. Billy Packer was definitely very high on
[52:44] Speaker 1: the list of haters. Trying to think who else it
[52:49] Speaker 1: is we might throw out there. I mean, truth is,
[52:51] Speaker 1: Whether you think he was justified or not is its
[52:53] Speaker 1: only discussion, but I don't think anybody will never hate
[52:55] Speaker 1: harder than pot. Like, to this day, I imagine if
[52:59] Speaker 1: it was your job to produce pot on Hit Em Up, like,
[53:04] Speaker 1: all right, I need you to do that again. He
[53:06] Speaker 1: can't do that again. He can't do that again. He
[53:09] Speaker 1: just passed out. He just fell out of the corner
[53:10] Speaker 1: from hating so hard.
[53:12] Speaker 3: My historical hater was J. Edgar Hoover.
[53:15] Speaker 1: That's an all-time. That is an all-time off.
[53:21] Speaker 3: Racists, creeds.
[53:23] Speaker 1: Yes.
[53:24] Speaker 3: Genders.
[53:25] Speaker 1: Hey, look, if you do what you love, you'll never
[53:28] Speaker 1: work a day in your life.
[53:29] Speaker 3: Yeah. Hoover had that job for 50 years.
[53:32] Speaker 1: Yeah. You just got through reading the Hoover book, right?
[53:35] Speaker 3: Yes.
[53:36] Speaker 1: Did that book get into the lie it appeared that
[53:39] Speaker 1: he had been living?
[53:40] Speaker 3: Well, two of them. I mean, the main one, yes.
[53:43] Speaker 1: Okay. Well, I don't even know what the main one
[53:44] Speaker 1: is anymore.
[53:45] Speaker 3: Well, the main one is his living boyfriend.
[53:49] Speaker 1: Okay. Oh, I was thinking about the other one, which
[53:51] Speaker 1: is in that day and age, that's a black man.
[53:56] Speaker 3: Oh, yeah.
[53:57] Speaker 1: Oh, yeah.
[54:00] Speaker 3: I did not get into that one. Yeah.
[54:01] Speaker 1: As I was talking about the black part, I completely
[54:04] Speaker 1: forgot about the whole other thing.
[54:06] Speaker 3: Yes.
[54:06] Speaker 1: Like the gay wear women's underwear.
[54:09] Speaker 3: Yes.
[54:09] Speaker 1: Type stuff. Yeah.
[54:10] Speaker 3: Like the live-in male assistant for 45 years.
[54:17] Speaker 1: Yeah.
[54:17] Speaker 5: Yeah.
[54:17] Speaker 3: No, that's from the twenties to the seven.
[54:21] Speaker 1: It is amazing to think that people who were like
[54:23] Speaker 1: adults in the twenties were still around in the seventies.
[54:26] Speaker 3: Yes. And it's still at the same job.
[54:32] Speaker 1: You're right. That is that, that is that's George Washington.
[54:36] Speaker 3: Yes.
[54:36] Speaker 1: On our hater list.
[54:38] Speaker 3: Yeah, for sure.
[54:39] Speaker 1: Oh man. Ladies and gentlemen, thanks so much for joining
[54:42] Speaker 1: us here on the right time. Happy New Year to
[54:45] Speaker 1: you all. Speaking of which, Ryan, I don't know if
[54:50] Speaker 1: you know about this thing I'm about to do right now.
[54:52] Speaker 1: Do you know about this thing I'm about to do
[54:53] Speaker 1: right now?
[54:54] Speaker 3: I do not.
[54:55] Speaker 1: I have a good friend named Ryan Cortez who hates
[54:59] Speaker 1: being told Happy New Year too long after the New Year.
[55:04] Speaker 3: Oh, that's the Larry David bit.
[55:05] Speaker 1: Yes, and so every year I call Ryan. Let's see
[55:09] Speaker 1: if he'll answer.
[55:16] Speaker 3: Don't even say that shit. Don't even say that shit.
[55:21] Speaker 3: I'm fucking dead.
[55:26] Speaker 5: What?
[55:27] Speaker 1: Say what you're about to say. Why you approach me
[55:32] Speaker 1: with such hostility with the first time that we have
[55:35] Speaker 1: talked this year? Even what? How you been, brother?
[55:45] Speaker 2: Go ahead.
[55:45] Speaker 4: Say what you really want to say.
[55:47] Speaker 5: Not that. Go ahead.
[55:48] Speaker 1: Happy New Year, man. God damn it. You would have
[55:53] Speaker 1: been better off calling me and just saying, fuck you.
[55:57] Speaker 3: That is the point of saying Happy New Year after
[56:00] Speaker 3: January 1st. You know that.
[56:02] Speaker 1: That's not the point. That's not the point. The point
[56:07] Speaker 1: is to share my cheer with you. Hold on. At
[56:14] Speaker 1: least this year I did it all. Was it today
[56:16] Speaker 1: the 5th?
[56:16] Speaker 6: It's a little more respectful than doing.
[56:19] Speaker 1: It on the 12th, admittedly. It's the first business day
[56:22] Speaker 1: of the year. In my record book, after January 1st,
[56:27] Speaker 1: you're not allowed to say it.
[56:28] Speaker 3: You get one day.
[56:32] Speaker 1: I love you too, man. All right, love you too.
[56:35] Speaker 3: I know. When you said he hates it, I was like, okay, like,
[56:42] Speaker 3: I like, I understood. I was like, I thought you
[56:45] Speaker 3: just didn't like, like thought was annoyed by it, but
[56:48] Speaker 3: he sounded actually mad. I mean, I don't know.
[56:51] Speaker 1: That's, that's, that's, that's Ryan Cortez default setting. Ryan probably
[56:58] Speaker 1: handles everything behind the scenes. Thank you, sir. Remember, follow
[57:01] Speaker 1: the right time. Subscribe, like, rate us, review us, hit
[57:04] Speaker 1: the voicemail line. 3, 2, 3, 5, 9, 6, 7, 7, 6, 7. Um,
[57:09] Speaker 1: Give us five stars. You only give us four stars.
[57:10] Speaker 1: I'm inclined to believe you are a hater. We'll talk
[57:12] Speaker 1: to you guys in a couple of days. Take it easy.
