March Madness is here, and Bomani Jones has one message for the people: it’s time to hate Duke again. On this episode of The Right Time, Bomani breaks down why the tournament is better when everybody unites against the Blue Devils, and how his Duke hatred has never changed, even though his relationship to college basketball has. Plus, Bomani dives into the Lakers’ rise in the West, Luka’s clutch stretch, and why LA might still be the playoff matchup everybody wants. He also gets into Oklahoma City, the Thunder’s ridiculous setup, and what could make this NBA postseason a lot of fun. Finally, Bomani sounds off on Bruce Pearl's absurd comments, Kanye West doing concerts again, and a perturbed Morehouse Alum who slid into his DM's. [0:05] Speaker 1: Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the right time presented by
[0:08] Speaker 1: Intuit TurboTax. My name is Beaumontie Jones. Thanks for listening
[0:12] Speaker 1: wherever you get your podcast. Thanks for watching us on YouTube. Subscribe, like,
[0:17] Speaker 1: rate us, review us, give us five stars. You only
[0:20] Speaker 1: give us four stars. I'm inclined to believe you are
[0:23] Speaker 1: a hater. We're going to get to what's going on
[0:25] Speaker 1: in the NBA in just a moment. But the NCAA
[0:30] Speaker 1: tournament starts this week. We just got through Selection Sunday.
[0:36] Speaker 1: People who watch and to a degree don't watch college
[0:40] Speaker 1: basketball have sounded more excited about what has happened this
[0:44] Speaker 1: season than honestly any season that I can remember. And
[0:49] Speaker 1: it makes sense, right? There's a very high profile class
[0:53] Speaker 1: of freshmen that, you know, looks like it'll be a
[0:56] Speaker 1: lot of draft action going on. But this ain't about
[0:58] Speaker 1: the pros right now. Right. We talk about this. We
[1:00] Speaker 1: got a lot of young cats that are there that
[1:02] Speaker 1: have been exciting to watch that have been excellent. Then
[1:07] Speaker 1: you combine that with the fact that this NIL money
[1:10] Speaker 1: set up a world where it really isn't that advantageous
[1:15] Speaker 1: for dudes to just run out of school and go
[1:17] Speaker 1: try to get that NBA bread, right? And what I
[1:20] Speaker 1: mean by that is like second round pick money. Like, Ryan,
[1:24] Speaker 1: you're an LSU grad. In this day and age, How
[1:27] Speaker 1: many years would Nas Reed have stayed at LSU? And
[1:31] Speaker 1: for those who don't know, you think of Nas Reed as,
[1:33] Speaker 1: I think he was undrafted or a second-round pick or something.
[1:36] Speaker 2: Second-round pick.
[1:37] Speaker 1: Yeah, second-round pick, but he was a five-star big deal.
[1:40] Speaker 2: Yes. Big deal. Probably stays at least three.
[1:45] Speaker 1: Maybe.
[1:46] Speaker 2: I mean, the way the eligibility rules are going could
[1:47] Speaker 2: be six.
[1:48] Speaker 1: Yeah, but why would you leave if you could get
[1:50] Speaker 1: a couple million dollars?
[1:52] Speaker 2: Of course.
[1:52] Speaker 1: Just for laying in the cut.
[1:54] Speaker 3: Right.
[1:54] Speaker 1: I mean, although to be fair, the way it's looking
[1:56] Speaker 1: right now, Go to the NBA and come back.
[1:58] Speaker 4: Shit.
[1:59] Speaker 1: Yeah, who knows? Nothing makes any sense right now. But
[2:02] Speaker 1: think about what it would be if Nas Reed were
[2:05] Speaker 1: still in school.
[2:06] Speaker 3: Yes.
[2:06] Speaker 5: Right?
[2:06] Speaker 1: Like the idea of the good junior that's not necessarily
[2:11] Speaker 1: going to be a great NBA player, but will be like...
[2:15] Speaker 1: It's just going to be deeper. I think is the
[2:17] Speaker 1: biggest point to make. Now, how that talent gets distributed,
[2:20] Speaker 1: where it goes, that becomes its own discussion. But it
[2:25] Speaker 1: makes sense. There's going to... there has been a bit
[2:28] Speaker 1: of a talent shortage for a while. And what happened was,
[2:31] Speaker 1: and I think this to a degree may still be
[2:34] Speaker 1: the case, but the discrepancy won't be nearly as great.
[2:38] Speaker 1: When I was growing up, we could say with confidence
[2:42] Speaker 1: that the best players in the world under 22 years
[2:47] Speaker 1: old were playing college basketball with the exception of just
[2:51] Speaker 1: like tip top guys that just kind of sort of
[2:55] Speaker 1: had no business being in college. But overall, those were
[2:59] Speaker 1: the best players under 22 in the NBA. Then you,
[3:02] Speaker 1: I mean, in the world, we're playing in college basketball.
[3:04] Speaker 1: Then it got to the point where you're watching the
[3:05] Speaker 1: NBA draft and everybody that gets drafted in the first
[3:07] Speaker 1: round is 20 or under. Like it never gets there.
[3:11] Speaker 1: Now those dudes are staying in school. And now this
[3:14] Speaker 1: is going to be on display. Like there's, there are,
[3:20] Speaker 1: and I'm going to get into another part of this
[3:22] Speaker 1: for a second. But I know back when I used
[3:24] Speaker 1: to really, really, really watch these things closely. The one
[3:28] Speaker 1: thing that you could say pretty confidently about who the
[3:31] Speaker 1: national champion would be is it would be somebody on
[3:34] Speaker 1: Ken Pomeroy's rankings, adjusted rankings for offensive and defensive rating,
[3:39] Speaker 1: that the teams that were in the top 10 in both,
[3:42] Speaker 1: those were the teams that were going to be national
[3:44] Speaker 1: championship contenders. Ryan, we got four of those. Those are
[3:49] Speaker 1: the four number one seeds. They fit that distinction. If
[3:52] Speaker 1: you go by Pompoy's rankings, they're the top four. Number
[3:55] Speaker 1: five overall, that's Houston. Number five in defensive rate. Iowa State,
[4:03] Speaker 1: don't ask me, but they're there. That's what they're telling me.
[4:07] Speaker 1: You know what I'm saying? Now, I will tell you this.
[4:09] Speaker 1: In my history, when they get there, that first round loss,
[4:14] Speaker 1: They lost to a black school one year. I'm trying
[4:15] Speaker 1: to remember which one it was. Was it Hampton? It
[4:18] Speaker 1: was Hampton. I think they did. Either way it goes.
[4:21] Speaker 1: Even the black people are like, I don't know about that. Ryan,
[4:25] Speaker 1: great story for you. This is back when I was
[4:29] Speaker 1: in a school in North Carolina and we weren't too
[4:31] Speaker 1: far removed from that 8-20 season that they had in
[4:34] Speaker 1: 2001 and 2002. You got to understand, man. They had
[4:37] Speaker 1: some real PTSD about that season for a long time.
[4:40] Speaker 1: They'd never been bad.
[4:42] Speaker 2: You're right.
[4:42] Speaker 1: Let alone just being abjectly terrible. And so I was
[4:46] Speaker 1: talking to a buddy of mine and I was telling
[4:49] Speaker 1: him they lost to Hampton that year. At home. And
[4:54] Speaker 1: he was like, nope, we ain't lose to Hampton. We
[4:57] Speaker 1: lost to Davidson. Because he just couldn't imagine they lost
[5:00] Speaker 1: to black school. We lost to Davidson, but we ain't
[5:02] Speaker 1: lose to Hampton. Had to bring him in close. You
[5:07] Speaker 1: lost to both of them.
[5:09] Speaker 3: Oh, man. Yeah.
[5:10] Speaker 2: I'm sure they were unhappy.
[5:12] Speaker 1: Yeah, like that moment felt a lot like one of
[5:16] Speaker 1: my favorite Simpsons moments when Homer went to community college
[5:22] Speaker 1: and he decided he wanted to look the part. And
[5:24] Speaker 1: so he had like a bomber jacket with these patches
[5:27] Speaker 1: and it looked ridiculous. And Marge is like, oh, Homer.
[5:31] Speaker 1: You're supposed to put leather patches on a tweed jacket
[5:34] Speaker 1: and you put tweed patches on a leather jacket. You've
[5:37] Speaker 1: ruined a perfectly good jacket. And then he holds up
[5:40] Speaker 1: this jacket with these cutouts in it. He's like, no, Marge,
[5:42] Speaker 1: two perfectly good jackets. That was how it felt in
[5:49] Speaker 1: that moment. But anyway, it's a lot going on here.
[5:54] Speaker 1: I am looking forward to watching these games. Because I'm
[5:58] Speaker 1: going to be honest with you people, I ain't watched
[6:00] Speaker 1: a college basketball game yet this year. I've seen these clips. Oh, no,
[6:03] Speaker 1: that is not true. I watched Carolina beat Duke at
[6:06] Speaker 1: the Dean Dome earlier, the first game that they played
[6:10] Speaker 1: this year. I did, in fact, watch that. Ryan, have
[6:14] Speaker 1: you been watching any college basketball? I don't know how
[6:16] Speaker 1: I feel about myself about this because people say it's
[6:18] Speaker 1: really been cracking, but I just kind of got.
[6:19] Speaker 3: Out of the habit.
[6:20] Speaker 2: I've been on a Peterson watch for the show.
[6:22] Speaker 1: Well, yes, yes, but that doesn't necessarily involve watching any
[6:26] Speaker 1: basketball because Darren Peterson was not necessarily playing. So it
[6:29] Speaker 1: has become abundantly clear. Remember when he had, we had
[6:32] Speaker 1: 40 on here talking about that. And I was like,
[6:34] Speaker 1: I'm inclined to believe that he's just been hurt. And
[6:36] Speaker 1: apparently he's been.
[6:37] Speaker 2: Really, really hurt. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
[6:39] Speaker 1: Like he's, he's, we're... If he can play now, this
[6:43] Speaker 1: is going to be an interesting introduction for him because
[6:47] Speaker 1: he's not only, it doesn't appear that it is a
[6:49] Speaker 1: great team, which opens up the possibility for balling out
[6:54] Speaker 1: of control because you have to.
[6:56] Speaker 3: Yes.
[6:56] Speaker 1: Right? AJ Debonza, who I have seen enough of in
[7:01] Speaker 1: clips to say, ooh.
[7:03] Speaker 4: Yeah.
[7:05] Speaker 2: Yeah.
[7:06] Speaker 1: He looks to be rather incredible. Same thing with him.
[7:10] Speaker 1: Not a really good team, but that's how you might
[7:12] Speaker 1: go off on that Wally Zerbiak, right? Hit you with
[7:15] Speaker 1: a couple 40 balls to start the tournament. But there
[7:19] Speaker 1: are things going on. This is going to be an
[7:22] Speaker 1: interesting tournament. Now, I mentioned Duke earlier and how I
[7:27] Speaker 1: watched them play a game this year and lose. Ryan,
[7:30] Speaker 1: did you know they had only lost two games all year?
[7:32] Speaker 2: I did know that.
[7:33] Speaker 1: They have only lost two games all year long. They
[7:36] Speaker 1: are the number one overall seed in the tournament. They
[7:42] Speaker 1: have not one boozer, but two boozers that are on
[7:48] Speaker 1: this team. And I'm bringing this up because we got
[7:54] Speaker 1: to do something about it. Like all of us. We
[7:58] Speaker 1: just can't just say bye-bye-bye-bye-ba-da-ba-da-ba-da-ba-da. I buy that shit. Like
[8:02] Speaker 1: you're telling me you're telling me that Duke is the
[8:04] Speaker 1: favorite to win the whole tournament.
[8:05] Speaker 2: Oh, yeah.
[8:06] Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah. Well, let's let's get this together.
[8:09] Speaker 5: Right.
[8:10] Speaker 1: Like, I know this isn't like it used to be.
[8:13] Speaker 1: And I know that things have changed a little bit
[8:16] Speaker 1: and people don't hate Duke nearly as much because in
[8:19] Speaker 1: an ironic twist, they stopped having so many white boys.
[8:23] Speaker 1: Like it just got so out of control that even
[8:26] Speaker 1: white people have begun to resent them. about having all
[8:29] Speaker 1: them white boys out there. You know what I mean?
[8:31] Speaker 1: The same white people that love Macklemore. Like, everyone just like, hey, hey, man,
[8:36] Speaker 1: this shit's going too far, right? Like, it was, they
[8:38] Speaker 1: was like, hey, any white boys left? Let's go get them. Like,
[8:41] Speaker 1: that was really happening in recruiting where you look up
[8:44] Speaker 1: and they were just like, oh, we got one scholarship
[8:45] Speaker 1: left and there's one white dude in the top 100
[8:48] Speaker 1: that doesn't have a home. Why don't you come on
[8:50] Speaker 1: down right here, right? And it was the white dudes
[8:53] Speaker 1: they was getting were the kind of white people that
[8:55] Speaker 1: white people didn't like. Now, granted, they had been doing that,
[8:58] Speaker 1: you know, a little easy. Either way it goes, all
[9:00] Speaker 1: I'm saying is once they stop going and getting them
[9:03] Speaker 1: white dudes, people stop hating them in the same capacity.
[9:07] Speaker 1: But Ryan, what nobody has ever told me was when
[9:09] Speaker 1: they stopped getting all those white dudes, were there also
[9:11] Speaker 1: people that stopped loving them in the same capacity that
[9:14] Speaker 1: they had prior?
[9:15] Speaker 2: I don't think so.
[9:16] Speaker 1: I don't know. Because, I mean, they kind of messed
[9:19] Speaker 1: with the thing that made the thing the thing. Right.
[9:23] Speaker 1: They kind of, you know.
[9:24] Speaker 2: You're saying they messed with the recipe a little bit?
[9:25] Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah. They kind of new coked it.
[9:29] Speaker 5: Yeah.
[9:29] Speaker 1: You know what I'm saying? They're like, no, but this is,
[9:31] Speaker 1: you know, it's exactly new coke. Because the thing about
[9:33] Speaker 1: new coke was they made new coke taste more like Pepsi.
[9:37] Speaker 1: And people was like, we don't want Pepsi. We want coke.
[9:40] Speaker 1: You understand what I'm saying? And so when they was
[9:43] Speaker 1: out there with all the white dudes and then they
[9:44] Speaker 1: was like.
[9:45] Speaker 2: No, no, no.
[9:45] Speaker 1: But Pepsi is rising up in the rankings. They like
[9:48] Speaker 1: we don't want no Pepsi. We want to drink Coke.
[9:53] Speaker 1: Give us this pure white basketball is.
[9:57] Speaker 2: What we looking for and then grayson allen comes back oh.
[10:00] Speaker 1: He's the last one they have not had like a
[10:03] Speaker 1: truly objectionable obnoxious like totally by the brand white boy
[10:07] Speaker 1: since then think about this man they had not just
[10:11] Speaker 1: two white dudes last year who wound up being drafted
[10:14] Speaker 1: in the lottery Them two white dudes are the top
[10:16] Speaker 1: two candidates for rookie of the year in the NBA
[10:20] Speaker 1: this year. They had two cold white boys, and they
[10:24] Speaker 1: couldn't even really get the, like, it just ain't the same.
[10:29] Speaker 1: You understand what I'm saying? Like, when Duke got two
[10:31] Speaker 1: cold-ass white boys, and they don't even get hyped that
[10:34] Speaker 1: much anymore. They didn't even get hyped. They didn't even
[10:36] Speaker 1: really get that hated. You know, and look, Cooper Flagg,
[10:40] Speaker 1: if that don't sound like Duke, Cooper Flagg, his mama's
[10:44] Speaker 1: favorite player was Christian Layton. He dreamed of going there.
[10:46] Speaker 1: We should have been hating him on a generational basis.
[10:48] Speaker 1: And we was just kind of like, hey, I hear
[10:49] Speaker 1: he's going to be pretty good. Right? We have lost.
[10:53] Speaker 2: He went out of high school early to get to do.
[10:55] Speaker 1: Yes, yes. He couldn't wait. He was so excited. We,
[10:58] Speaker 1: I'm just saying at a sum total, all the way
[11:00] Speaker 1: across the board, all of this, we are no longer vigilant.
[11:04] Speaker 1: You know what I'm saying? And you got to understand this.
[11:06] Speaker 1: If ever you had to be vigilant, you must always
[11:08] Speaker 1: be vigilant. Right? Case in point. All them x-rays and
[11:12] Speaker 1: shit at the airport. They ain't been back to the
[11:15] Speaker 1: airport since.
[11:16] Speaker 3: Right?
[11:17] Speaker 1: You know that line, Ron? You read a lot of
[11:19] Speaker 1: stuff like this. Generals always fighting the last war.
[11:22] Speaker 2: Right.
[11:23] Speaker 1: They probably not going to come back to the airport.
[11:25] Speaker 2: Probably not.
[11:27] Speaker 1: That's me knocking on wood. They probably not going to
[11:30] Speaker 1: come back to the airport. But you know what? If
[11:32] Speaker 1: you were ever vigilant, you must always be vigilant. And
[11:38] Speaker 1: we done fell off. Right? Like, that's how I feel
[11:42] Speaker 1: about it. And I think it's also weird because of
[11:45] Speaker 1: these boozers. Because for the most part, once the Duke
[11:47] Speaker 1: guys leave Duke and go to the NBA, with the
[11:51] Speaker 1: exception of Grayson Allen, we don't really hate him the
[11:54] Speaker 1: same way no more. Like, Grayson Allen insisted upon bringing
[11:59] Speaker 1: his same old tricks and shenanigans with him.
[12:03] Speaker 2: Right?
[12:04] Speaker 1: Like, he made it impossible for us to... We let J.J.
[12:08] Speaker 1: move on.
[12:09] Speaker 3: Right.
[12:10] Speaker 1: And I didn't hate J.J. in college.
[12:12] Speaker 4: Right?
[12:12] Speaker 1: But we let J.J. move on.
[12:14] Speaker 2: J.J. Redick is what got me into hating Duke.
[12:18] Speaker 1: Yeah, I see the argument.
[12:19] Speaker 2: Because that's like the perfect age.
[12:21] Speaker 1: Yeah, that's right. You're there. You didn't have the opportunity
[12:25] Speaker 1: for the Christian Laettner era.
[12:27] Speaker 4: Correct.
[12:27] Speaker 1: And the difference between J.J. and Christian Laettner is J.J.
[12:31] Speaker 1: went to a Final Four, but... Christian Laitner went to
[12:34] Speaker 1: four of them.
[12:35] Speaker 2: I can only imagine.
[12:37] Speaker 1: And the thing about Christian Laitner was, looking back on it,
[12:40] Speaker 1: when he made the Dream Team, we were like, that
[12:41] Speaker 1: was Shaq's spot on the Dream Team. But he gave
[12:44] Speaker 1: Shaq the work when they played. He gave them all
[12:46] Speaker 1: the work. Every single one of them. It wasn't just
[12:48] Speaker 1: like Duke manufactured it. Christian Laitner gave all of them
[12:52] Speaker 1: the work. I've never hated a stranger. And it's not
[12:56] Speaker 1: just me. I'll tell you about this. I covered the
[12:59] Speaker 1: 2007 NCAA tournament. I mean, not NCAA, the ACC tournament.
[13:02] Speaker 1: And they do an ACC Legends thing at halftime. You know,
[13:06] Speaker 1: it's like a ring of honor sort of thing or whatever.
[13:08] Speaker 1: Rodney Rodgers, God rest his soul, he was there. Because
[13:11] Speaker 1: I remember I talked to him for the story that
[13:12] Speaker 1: I wrote about it. And it was at halftime of
[13:16] Speaker 1: one of the semifinal games. And the semifinal games are
[13:19] Speaker 1: usually not that well attended, or at least they weren't.
[13:21] Speaker 1: They were like Saturday afternoon early.
[13:23] Speaker 2: Yeah.
[13:24] Speaker 1: And I just remember they started saying, and from Duke,
[13:28] Speaker 1: the Christian got one foot on the wood.
[13:31] Speaker 2: Boo!
[13:35] Speaker 1: At that time, the ACC had 12 schools. It was
[13:38] Speaker 1: 11 schools of boo. Never seen anything like that.
[13:43] Speaker 2: 15 years later.
[13:44] Speaker 1: And Laitner looked at them, looked around, and just went,
[13:50] Speaker 1: And blew a kiss to them all. It was perfect.
[13:52] Speaker 1: It was an amazing moment, right?
[13:54] Speaker 4: It's incredible.
[13:54] Speaker 1: But anyway, we got to get back on this. And see,
[13:57] Speaker 1: I understand this. A lot of you people, too young
[14:01] Speaker 1: to have been on the Duke hating wagon. In some
[14:03] Speaker 1: of your cases, too white to be on the Duke
[14:06] Speaker 1: hating wagon. And in some of these cases, y'all don't
[14:10] Speaker 1: make no sense to me, right? And so, like, The
[14:14] Speaker 1: black girls who had crushes on Grant Hill and continued
[14:18] Speaker 1: to root for Duke passed that. I mean, I get it.
[14:21] Speaker 1: I don't approve necessarily, but I see how you wound
[14:24] Speaker 1: up getting there. But some of the rest of y'all,
[14:27] Speaker 1: and yes, talking specifically about black people, I don't know
[14:31] Speaker 1: what the set of circumstances was that got you to
[14:34] Speaker 1: that place where you decided you was going to root
[14:36] Speaker 1: for Duke, but it's confusing. Ryan, I don't know if
[14:39] Speaker 1: you're familiar with my man, Karam Phillips. He's a sports
[14:42] Speaker 1: writer and He from, like, Saginaw. He from some of
[14:50] Speaker 1: that Michigan. You know what I'm saying?
[14:51] Speaker 2: Yes, yes, yes.
[14:53] Speaker 1: And he'd be out here writing about the revolution. He'd
[14:56] Speaker 1: be giving the white folks the blues, all of that stuff. Man,
[14:59] Speaker 1: he'd be out here rooting for Duke like he went there.
[15:02] Speaker 1: And I got bad news, Karan. You can't do both.
[15:06] Speaker 1: You got to pick a cause. It's us or them.
[15:09] Speaker 1: What are you talking about? You know what I'm saying?
[15:12] Speaker 1: You're calling yourself giving the white folks the blues and
[15:13] Speaker 1: then you used to root for Greg Paulus. That was you.
[15:19] Speaker 2: Yeah, so white he left Duke and went to be
[15:21] Speaker 2: your quarterback.
[15:21] Speaker 1: Hell yeah! That's what I'm saying. That was when you
[15:24] Speaker 1: was a... No, no, no, no, no. You got a
[15:27] Speaker 1: Cherokee Parks jersey in the closet and you be out here. No, no. No, no, no.
[15:33] Speaker 1: It's not allowed. So anyway, we all got to get together.
[15:36] Speaker 1: We all got to be on the same team. One
[15:39] Speaker 1: big old team. If you ain't Duke, then the rest
[15:41] Speaker 1: of it don't matter. We just all need to be
[15:43] Speaker 1: there together. And I need to put this in some
[15:46] Speaker 1: ways because some of y'all might not be prepared to
[15:49] Speaker 1: get on the Duke wagon, right? So maybe we need
[15:51] Speaker 1: to remind some people of some things. For example, don't
[15:58] Speaker 1: forget Richard Nixon went to Duke. Now, you may be
[16:01] Speaker 1: too young to care about the fact that Richard Nixon
[16:04] Speaker 1: went to Duke, right? And I think it was Duke
[16:06] Speaker 1: Law School, just to be clear. But it's all good.
[16:10] Speaker 1: It's all good. We don't even need to bring up
[16:12] Speaker 1: Richard Nixon no more. That one don't even rate. Stephen
[16:16] Speaker 1: Miller went to Duke. That's right. Stephen Miller went to Duke.
[16:24] Speaker 3: Mm-hmm.
[16:26] Speaker 1: And if Stephen Miller going to Duke don't do enough
[16:29] Speaker 1: for you, just wait a couple days because I'll be
[16:32] Speaker 1: watching the news and seeing what's going on in this world, Ryan.
[16:36] Speaker 1: And it's only a matter of time before Kyrie snaps.
[16:40] Speaker 2: Oh, yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
[16:42] Speaker 1: He's been good about it for a while.
[16:43] Speaker 2: He might have deleted Twitter off his phone.
[16:45] Speaker 6: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
[16:45] Speaker 1: He's been holding it together. But I'm just saying it is,
[16:47] Speaker 1: if he get on there and snaps, those of you
[16:49] Speaker 1: who don't care about the fact that Stephen Miller went
[16:51] Speaker 1: to Duke, Kyrie went to Duke.
[16:53] Speaker 4: Oh, yeah. Yeah.
[16:55] Speaker 1: That's right. Let's bring all the forces together, baby. That's
[17:01] Speaker 1: what we need to do. I wish Bruce Pearl had
[17:03] Speaker 1: gone to Duke. Shit, that would have been stupendous if
[17:07] Speaker 1: we could do that.
[17:08] Speaker 2: Who else?
[17:09] Speaker 1: Oh, Warriors fans. Warriors fans. I hear you guys aren't
[17:13] Speaker 1: really too fond of your general manager right now. You
[17:16] Speaker 1: feel like he's contributed to wasting these years of Steph
[17:19] Speaker 1: Curry still being productive. That would be Mike Dunleavy Jr.,
[17:23] Speaker 1: Duke alum. Do you follow Jason Williams on Twitter? Or
[17:29] Speaker 1: any other platform? Or Instagram? Or see him on television?
[17:32] Speaker 1: He be getting on your nerves, don't he? Don't he?
[17:36] Speaker 1: He's always been nice to me, but on TV?
[17:38] Speaker 2: Really nice guy.
[17:39] Speaker 1: He be getting on my nerves. He went to Duke too.
[17:43] Speaker 1: And by the way, for those of you too young
[17:45] Speaker 1: to remember, and Ryan, you may be one of them. Ooh, boy.
[17:51] Speaker 2: Rob yeah that's right yeah.
[17:55] Speaker 1: Jason williams jason williams is so cold like when you
[18:00] Speaker 1: start putting together the list of yeah but he was
[18:03] Speaker 1: cold duke dudes jason williams is jason williams great hill
[18:07] Speaker 1: that's like one two jason williams great hill zion williamson
[18:12] Speaker 1: well he got eight games of kairi but anyway fuck
[18:15] Speaker 1: that he went there um so we can we can
[18:18] Speaker 1: we can get in that one some of y'all are
[18:20] Speaker 1: a little bit what's the word fat phobic zion um
[18:25] Speaker 1: are you a knicks fan it felt like you ain't
[18:27] Speaker 1: get enough out of maple mamba rj barrett all right
[18:32] Speaker 1: it's right there but They can't do it. We got it.
[18:36] Speaker 1: We are on our second generation of boozers.
[18:38] Speaker 2: Charlie Rose went to Duke. Google why he's not on
[18:41] Speaker 2: TV anymore.
[18:42] Speaker 1: Didn't realize he had gone to Duke. Okay. There's another one.
[18:46] Speaker 1: Y'all be out here complaining about everything that has to
[18:48] Speaker 1: do with the NBA. Everything under the sun about the NBA.
[18:52] Speaker 1: Adam Silver. Duke alum. That's right. We got to get
[18:59] Speaker 1: it there.
[19:00] Speaker 3: Right.
[19:01] Speaker 1: They appear to be cold. They appear to be cold, cold, cold.
[19:04] Speaker 1: Very good. The boozer, the better boozer, that's Cam. That's
[19:09] Speaker 1: better boozer, right? I have seen enough to be like, oh,
[19:13] Speaker 1: he seems to be a very good basketball player. So
[19:18] Speaker 1: who going to get him fouled out? Somebody got to
[19:22] Speaker 1: get that done. It's been 11 years since Duke won
[19:28] Speaker 1: a national championship. Can't have it in my life, bro.
[19:31] Speaker 1: Can't do it. Can't do it. Can't do it.
[19:33] Speaker 6: No, no, no.
[19:34] Speaker 1: So that's my thing. I'm looking forward to filling out
[19:37] Speaker 1: a bracket because I feel like I will perform better
[19:39] Speaker 1: than I ever have without having watched a game because
[19:42] Speaker 1: watching games never did much for my actual ballot. I
[19:46] Speaker 1: think I'm in better shape on what I'm going to
[19:49] Speaker 1: get there to. how come Rick Pitino couldn't have gone
[19:51] Speaker 1: to Duke? Too bad he's not. I mean, I'm glad
[19:55] Speaker 1: he's not their coach, though, because then they would be beautiful.
[19:59] Speaker 2: I can't believe he's still doing this at this age.
[20:01] Speaker 2: Just getting St. John's back to its old glory. It
[20:06] Speaker 2: really is.
[20:07] Speaker 1: I would make point number one. I'd be worried about
[20:11] Speaker 1: what he would do with his free time.
[20:13] Speaker 2: It's a fair counter.
[20:14] Speaker 1: And point number two, and I guess this is somewhat
[20:18] Speaker 1: similar to LeBron and why he still plays, though LeBron
[20:20] Speaker 1: doesn't still fit in this category in this way. I
[20:24] Speaker 1: can't imagine being as good at anything as Rick Petito
[20:28] Speaker 1: is at coaching basketball.
[20:30] Speaker 4: Yeah, I know.
[20:31] Speaker 2: It's... For the bridges he's burned and the places he's been,
[20:38] Speaker 2: people just can't quit him.
[20:40] Speaker 1: He's just too good to turn down. I'm thinking in
[20:44] Speaker 1: terms of strictly coaching basketball in college, because Patino's pro thing.
[20:49] Speaker 1: They won the Atlanta Division once when he coached the
[20:51] Speaker 1: Knicks for what it's worth. But let's just keep this
[20:53] Speaker 1: to college basketball. I'm not sure who's in the same
[20:57] Speaker 1: zone as him. Like Larry Brown at his best. Like
[21:00] Speaker 1: Larry Brown is like the top to bottom. Like what
[21:02] Speaker 1: Rasheed Wallace is called a pound for pound. Like he's
[21:05] Speaker 1: that guy. But anyway, let's get back to this hate
[21:08] Speaker 1: and Duke. Let's all do it.
[21:12] Speaker 2: None of us need to get distracted from keeping the
[21:14] Speaker 2: main thing.
[21:15] Speaker 3: No, no.
[21:15] Speaker 1: The main thing got to stay the main thing. And
[21:18] Speaker 1: we done made the main thing fall off. If we
[21:21] Speaker 1: had truly hated Duke the way we could, they team
[21:23] Speaker 1: could never look the way it would. We as a people,
[21:26] Speaker 1: not you or yours, Ron, talking about me and mine.
[21:28] Speaker 1: We should have been boycotted that shit a long time ago.
[21:31] Speaker 1: I can't, like, how? How'd you, like, how did that happen?
[21:35] Speaker 1: I remember the time somebody tried to come in our
[21:37] Speaker 1: house rooting for Duke and almost got kicked out. I
[21:40] Speaker 1: can't imagine being like, yeah, you can go there. I
[21:42] Speaker 1: ain't signing that shit. No circumstance would I let that happen.
[21:48] Speaker 1: So anyway, Arizona, Michigan, Florida, Houston, everybody out there, we
[21:54] Speaker 1: rooting for you, baby. Cause I'm scared. All right, Ryan,
[22:04] Speaker 1: this weekend I had to do some traveling for work.
[22:07] Speaker 1: So I didn't a different kind of work. I'll tell
[22:09] Speaker 1: you guys about it shortly, but you hit me on Sunday.
[22:13] Speaker 1: It was like, did you see what happened last night?
[22:16] Speaker 1: And I'm like, what do you mean? Did I see
[22:17] Speaker 1: what happened last night? And so Luca hit a game
[22:19] Speaker 1: winner and had a clutch defensive play.
[22:21] Speaker 4: Yeah.
[22:24] Speaker 2: Lakers doing us a favor, programming the show.
[22:26] Speaker 1: Hey, let me tell you what the Lakers are doing,
[22:28] Speaker 1: because the Lakers have played themselves up to, what, third
[22:31] Speaker 1: in the West right now?
[22:32] Speaker 4: Right.
[22:32] Speaker 1: All right, so that is Thunder Spurs, which, that's one-two.
[22:38] Speaker 2: One-two probably in the NBA.
[22:39] Speaker 1: Yeah, but for the playoffs, the Thunder's going to be one,
[22:42] Speaker 1: the Spurs are going to be two. The Lakers, Rockets, Nuggets,
[22:47] Speaker 1: Timberwolves in a bit of a cluster, okay? But I think,
[22:53] Speaker 1: In all likelihood, those are the six teams that are
[22:55] Speaker 1: not going to have to go into the play-in. It
[22:59] Speaker 1: is debatable. I don't know how much it matters where
[23:04] Speaker 1: those teams fall in 3-6, given that they're not going
[23:07] Speaker 1: to play the Thunder or the Spurs in the first round.
[23:10] Speaker 1: I think, and I'm curious if you agree with me,
[23:14] Speaker 1: that they all want to play against the Lakers.
[23:17] Speaker 2: The other three teams?
[23:19] Speaker 3: Yes.
[23:19] Speaker 4: Yes.
[23:21] Speaker 1: Everybody wants to play against the Lakers. Because the Lakers
[23:23] Speaker 1: got three dudes that you can hunt.
[23:26] Speaker 3: Right.
[23:27] Speaker 1: On defense.
[23:28] Speaker 2: And no one wants to play Joker.
[23:32] Speaker 4: No. Yeah.
[23:33] Speaker 1: I mean, look here. I don't think anyone wants to
[23:36] Speaker 1: play Joker. I don't think anybody really wants to see Minnesota.
[23:40] Speaker 3: Right.
[23:40] Speaker 1: If we're being honest, like for this level of basketball,
[23:43] Speaker 1: they are tested. The Rockets, I think because they have
[23:47] Speaker 1: the glaring point guard hole. And the fact that Shingun
[23:50] Speaker 1: is an awful defensive player.
[23:53] Speaker 2: Yeah, he's really regressed.
[23:54] Speaker 1: Can you imagine what Joker would think about the idea
[23:58] Speaker 1: of squaring up with Shingun every game?
[24:02] Speaker 3: Yeah.
[24:04] Speaker 2: Yeah.
[24:05] Speaker 1: Give me... Brother, I have 47. Like, that's the kind
[24:09] Speaker 1: of performance that you're going to get there. But a
[24:12] Speaker 1: good Lakers team with just enough to keep it interesting? Ooh. Right? Because, hey...
[24:22] Speaker 1: Luka Doncic is a playoff performer, and it appears, I
[24:26] Speaker 1: saw pictures implying this, and you let me know if
[24:27] Speaker 1: I'm wrong here, it appears that he has replayed his
[24:30] Speaker 1: way into shape.
[24:31] Speaker 2: Yes.
[24:33] Speaker 1: So he's replayed his way into shape. LeBron is healthy now.
[24:36] Speaker 1: I mean, the tricky thing with figuring out the Lakers is, one,
[24:42] Speaker 1: how healthy will he be when the games are every
[24:44] Speaker 1: other night? Right. And number two, are they better off
[24:49] Speaker 1: when he doesn't play With the other guys.
[24:52] Speaker 2: Or it's just weird. This weird thing where it's like
[24:54] Speaker 2: the less he's featured on offense, the better they are.
[24:56] Speaker 4: Yes.
[24:57] Speaker 1: Or, you know, JJ implied that they had one of
[25:00] Speaker 1: them conversations and he let them know that he was
[25:02] Speaker 1: going to have to step it back. And apparently that
[25:05] Speaker 1: has happened to positive results. I just don't think they're
[25:09] Speaker 1: going to be able to play good enough defense at
[25:11] Speaker 1: the point at which it matters. But man, they give
[25:14] Speaker 1: us a good first round. seven game series or something
[25:18] Speaker 1: just to get the blood pumping, just to get a
[25:20] Speaker 1: nice big win on game one.
[25:22] Speaker 2: Yeah.
[25:23] Speaker 3: TV.
[25:23] Speaker 1: Yeah. Cause look, it's really starting to feel like something
[25:27] Speaker 1: now it's easy to lose sight of the fact that
[25:30] Speaker 1: we're a month away from the playoff start.
[25:31] Speaker 4: Right.
[25:32] Speaker 1: I believe the first game of the playoffs is April 18th.
[25:35] Speaker 2: I think that's exactly right. Yeah.
[25:36] Speaker 1: Like we're, you know how I know, but yeah, We're
[25:44] Speaker 1: getting there. All these Sunday and Saturday games, they're feeling
[25:49] Speaker 1: like something, right? Minnesota and Oklahoma City played on Sunday,
[25:54] Speaker 1: and it wound up being a big Oklahoma City win,
[25:56] Speaker 1: but Minnesota was up for most of the first two
[25:59] Speaker 1: and a half quarters of that game. It's at the
[26:02] Speaker 1: point where you're seeing these matchups that are coming up,
[26:05] Speaker 1: and it's like, yo, I got to get my eyes
[26:07] Speaker 1: on this one. Cats out here. We talked about this before.
[26:11] Speaker 1: Anybody that thinks the idea is that in the regular season,
[26:13] Speaker 1: nobody plays hard, this simply isn't true. They're going, going, going,
[26:19] Speaker 1: going right now. But in the West, they're really playing
[26:22] Speaker 1: for something in that shuffle. I feel like in the East,
[26:26] Speaker 1: what the seeds are now are kind of sort of
[26:29] Speaker 1: what the seeds are, right? Maybe Miami plays their way
[26:32] Speaker 1: into six and Minnesota goes down, but Detroit's going to
[26:35] Speaker 1: be one, Boston's going to be two, New York is
[26:37] Speaker 1: going to be three, Cleveland's going to be four, Orlando's
[26:40] Speaker 1: going to be five. I think we know that. I
[26:43] Speaker 1: don't think we're going to really start caring about what's
[26:46] Speaker 1: going on over there until the second round, at which
[26:48] Speaker 1: point it does get very interesting. You know, what happens
[26:53] Speaker 1: in that round? If we get another Boston, New York
[26:56] Speaker 1: conference semi with Jason Tatum, who, don't ask me how.
[27:03] Speaker 2: Yeah, seems to be working so far.
[27:04] Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah. Like, I was actually thinking about him in
[27:06] Speaker 1: the context that we were talking about with Duke, because
[27:08] Speaker 1: I know Duke's got some players that are hurt. Those
[27:10] Speaker 1: of us who are old enough to remember this, they
[27:13] Speaker 1: be having miracle cures over there. Duke be having cats
[27:17] Speaker 1: come back. You'd be like, wait a minute. I thought
[27:18] Speaker 1: you said he had a compound fracture of his femur.
[27:22] Speaker 1: That was two weeks ago. Them cats be coming back.
[27:26] Speaker 1: I don't know what they S & C. They train
[27:28] Speaker 1: a situation, whatever it is. Them cats be coming back.
[27:30] Speaker 1: Duke alum, but you know, that's a figure of speech.
[27:34] Speaker 1: Jason Tatum, back like he never left. I do not know.
[27:40] Speaker 1: But if we get Luka out here playing high-level Luka
[27:44] Speaker 1: playoff ball, I don't care if the Lakers win. Just
[27:48] Speaker 1: make it fun.
[27:49] Speaker 2: Yes. Right?
[27:50] Speaker 1: It doesn't matter who wins and loses early like that.
[27:53] Speaker 1: You know? Who's supposed to win is going to matter
[27:55] Speaker 1: at the end. But just... Give us some excitement.
[27:59] Speaker 2: Yes.
[27:59] Speaker 1: Give us some fun. And I feel like we're going
[28:03] Speaker 1: to have plenty of that. By the way, before I forget,
[28:06] Speaker 1: and I see that people on the internet talk about this,
[28:08] Speaker 1: but I think this matters. How in the world did
[28:12] Speaker 1: Daryl Morey just give Jerry McCain away?
[28:15] Speaker 2: It's insane. Just gave him away to the thunder.
[28:18] Speaker 1: And it's interesting because I am told that the guys
[28:21] Speaker 1: in Philadelphia really liked him. Like he was a, you know,
[28:25] Speaker 1: but goodness, that.
[28:27] Speaker 5: the zoomer zoomer zoomer whoever zoomed he needed to be
[28:32] Speaker 5: on the thunder yeah right like he's down there and
[28:35] Speaker 5: nobody even thinks nobody even thinks this shit is.
[28:37] Speaker 1: Weird it's it's really remarkable right but he he can
[28:40] Speaker 1: play for my team man yeah like i cannot believe
[28:43] Speaker 1: that they i don't care what the luxury tag was
[28:45] Speaker 1: hitting on any of that i cannot believe they let
[28:48] Speaker 1: that do he looked like he was gonna be rookie
[28:49] Speaker 1: of the year last year yeah until he got hurt
[28:52] Speaker 1: and oklahoma city gets to have him for free Somebody
[28:57] Speaker 1: sent me a text, friend of the program, after his
[28:59] Speaker 1: team played Oklahoma City, and he was like, somebody's got
[29:04] Speaker 1: to take these dweebs out. They are the least cool,
[29:08] Speaker 1: great NBA team there's ever been.
[29:10] Speaker 2: It really is amazing because– If Shea wins another title
[29:13] Speaker 2: and wins another MVP and another title, another finals MVP,
[29:17] Speaker 2: we're all going to have to have some serious conversations
[29:19] Speaker 2: about how great he is.
[29:21] Speaker 1: He's there.
[29:21] Speaker 2: That none of us are going to like.
[29:23] Speaker 1: But, I mean, he has all the things.
[29:27] Speaker 2: Correct.
[29:28] Speaker 3: Right?
[29:28] Speaker 1: Like, if there were another MVP, another finals MVP, absurd
[29:34] Speaker 1: advance numbers. Winning titles with, I mean, it's a new era,
[29:39] Speaker 1: and there are very... good team, but I don't think
[29:42] Speaker 1: any of us thought Jalen Williams was the second best
[29:44] Speaker 1: player on a title team.
[29:46] Speaker 4: Right.
[29:46] Speaker 1: I don't think until that happened, either of us looked
[29:48] Speaker 1: at him in that way. No, the conversations, it's the
[29:51] Speaker 1: same thing it was with Jokic, where it was like, hey, man, the, what?
[29:55] Speaker 2: At some point, it's undeniable. Yeah, yeah, it is.
[29:58] Speaker 1: And boy, let me tell you, If we get Oklahoma
[30:01] Speaker 1: City-Denver in the second round, which is what it looks
[30:04] Speaker 1: like it might be, because they don't play the same position,
[30:08] Speaker 1: we won't really look at it the right way. But
[30:11] Speaker 1: that's a.
[30:12] Speaker 2: That's a heavyweight title fight.
[30:13] Speaker 1: Yeah, it's not a lose-or-leave town, right? But those are
[30:17] Speaker 1: still the two best players to me in the NBA, right?
[30:21] Speaker 1: And then the winner of that will get to go
[30:24] Speaker 1: play the future in the conference finals. That's what they...
[30:28] Speaker 1: Everybody called him the alien and everything else.
[30:30] Speaker 4: No, man.
[30:31] Speaker 1: He's the future. He's like flying cars were when we
[30:36] Speaker 1: watched the Jetsons. Like, oh, that's what the future's going
[30:39] Speaker 1: to be like. Except the future has population one.
[30:42] Speaker 3: Yes.
[30:42] Speaker 1: It has just one. There's no one like him. Just
[30:46] Speaker 1: one dude. I told you, Harrison Barnes is like, how
[30:49] Speaker 1: do you look at pickup games like Wilt? He's 33
[30:52] Speaker 1: years old and the only point of comparison that he
[30:55] Speaker 1: has is Wilt Chamberlain. Oh man, we got a lot
[31:00] Speaker 1: of fun. And by the way, we also might get
[31:03] Speaker 1: Kawhi Leonard who's been balling his ass off. Balling.
[31:08] Speaker 2: Can't be a bummer. I'll believe it when I see it.
[31:12] Speaker 1: I don't blame you. I don't blame you.
[31:14] Speaker 2: I want to like, Game three. Reports that Kawhi Leonard,
[31:20] Speaker 2: this is fake me reading. She has this fake tweet
[31:23] Speaker 2: from a month from now. Reports are Kawhi Leonard will
[31:25] Speaker 2: miss this game with a mysterious lower leg injury. You know, like.
[31:30] Speaker 1: That's fair, but.
[31:32] Speaker 2: It would be fun, but he's playing out of his mind.
[31:35] Speaker 1: Allow me to tell you what's on the board. Best
[31:39] Speaker 1: of seven series. Kawhi Leonard returns to San Antonio.
[31:47] Speaker 2: I don't think about that.
[31:49] Speaker 1: And they'll lose this. I don't think they can beat
[31:51] Speaker 1: the Spurs, but he will go for 35 at night.
[31:56] Speaker 2: Yes.
[31:56] Speaker 1: And that's, I can't believe how good he's been. I,
[32:00] Speaker 1: at his age.
[32:01] Speaker 4: Yeah.
[32:01] Speaker 2: Siki. What is he?
[32:02] Speaker 3: 34.
[32:02] Speaker 1: This is year 15. I think he's 35. This is
[32:07] Speaker 1: year 15 with all those injuries that he has suffered.
[32:10] Speaker 1: Like I talk about going to those 2019 finals games.
[32:13] Speaker 1: I went to a couple of games in person. And
[32:15] Speaker 1: I don't know why the cameras never picked it up.
[32:17] Speaker 1: He was dragging one of those legs that whole series.
[32:20] Speaker 1: That was seven years ago. And, like, two catastrophic injuries
[32:25] Speaker 1: have transpired since then. And since Pablo got out here
[32:29] Speaker 1: in his business, he been out here hooping. Even though
[32:32] Speaker 1: they traded away. Like, what if they still had James Harden?
[32:37] Speaker 1: If they still had James Harden and they played against
[32:38] Speaker 1: the Spurs, you'd have to give them a chance.
[32:40] Speaker 6: Of winning, right?
[32:43] Speaker 2: Again, it's James Harden and Kawhi. It's just so tough.
[32:47] Speaker 1: I just said a chance. I just said a chance.
[32:49] Speaker 2: A chance, yes.
[32:50] Speaker 1: A chance. But yeah, no, no, no. We got some

[36:43] Speaker 2: We got you. Now, if you haven't heard, If you
[36:48] Speaker 2: haven't heard, Bo, a couple stories we're going to get to.
[36:51] Speaker 2: Bruce Pearl on CBS's coverage was advocating for his son's
[36:55] Speaker 2: Auburn team to be in the tournament. He had a quote,
[36:58] Speaker 2: Auburn beat three champions this year. They beat Florida, they
[37:01] Speaker 2: beat St. John's, and they beat Arkansas. They played the
[37:03] Speaker 2: toughest schedule in the country. Don't know if they were
[37:06] Speaker 2: rewarded for it. Bo, what was your reaction to this?
[37:09] Speaker 1: First of all, shout out to you, John Calipari, because
[37:12] Speaker 1: you were down bad. I mean bad. And you had
[37:17] Speaker 1: to take this demotion of a job where you got
[37:20] Speaker 1: to wear a funny looking coat. Well, the coat ain't
[37:22] Speaker 1: even really funny looking. It's a nice, it's a coat, but...
[37:24] Speaker 1: it's the kind of coat that the coach at Arkansas wears.
[37:27] Speaker 2: Yes, it's the nicest coat someone has.
[37:29] Speaker 4: In Little Rock.
[37:29] Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Like, it's not to the Wimp
[37:32] Speaker 1: Sanderson level of coat, but it is the coat that, like,
[37:36] Speaker 1: it's the coat the coach at Arkansas wears because they
[37:38] Speaker 1: play in a big game. He would have never worn
[37:40] Speaker 1: that coat when he was coach at Kentucky. But you
[37:42] Speaker 1: won the SEC. You got a great player in the
[37:44] Speaker 1: A-cuff kid. Good for you. As for Bruce Pearl... Yes,
[37:55] Speaker 1: his son, who he should not have given the job
[37:57] Speaker 1: to in the first place, is the head coach at Auburn.
[38:00] Speaker 1: And he wants to give Auburn credit because they have beaten,
[38:02] Speaker 1: they have won games against the three champions. And I believe,
[38:08] Speaker 1: if I'm not mistaken, that he was directly, it's Miami
[38:12] Speaker 1: of Ohio that he was going for. The undefeated team
[38:17] Speaker 1: is the one that he was going for. Ryan, do
[38:19] Speaker 1: you know what Auburn's record is?
[38:21] Speaker 2: I'm going to guess 18 and 15.
[38:25] Speaker 1: They are, for this year, 17 and 16. Two and
[38:33] Speaker 1: eight on the road. And Bruce Pearl is sitting on
[38:38] Speaker 1: television trying to put them into the tournament. Did you
[38:46] Speaker 1: see him cussing at people during the SEC tournament?
[38:48] Speaker 2: Sure did.
[38:49] Speaker 1: Where was security? You know how much I would love
[38:52] Speaker 1: to see security? haul Bruce Pearl out of the building.
[38:57] Speaker 1: They never would. They never would. But we should talk
[39:01] Speaker 1: about something else because all I want to do is
[39:02] Speaker 1: say things about him that I shouldn't say about a
[39:04] Speaker 1: man that I don't know personally.
[39:07] Speaker 8: All right.
[39:07] Speaker 2: Speaking of people whose politics we don't agree with, Kanye West.
[39:10] Speaker 1: I was past that. By the way, it ain't just
[39:12] Speaker 1: that about him. It goes back well before I even
[39:14] Speaker 1: knew what his politics were.
[39:15] Speaker 2: All right.
[39:15] Speaker 1: It go back 40 years. I fucking hate that guy.
[39:19] Speaker 2: Speaking of well-documented assholes, Kanye West is set to perform
[39:23] Speaker 2: at SoFi Stadium April 1st and 3rd. um and yeah
[39:29] Speaker 2: two shows.
[39:30] Speaker 1: So we think that he can sell 70 000 tickets
[39:36] Speaker 1: twice or excuse me he not only does he think
[39:41] Speaker 1: that there is some promotional operation that thinks that he
[39:47] Speaker 1: can do that I mean, it's a Nazi rally, right? Like,
[39:55] Speaker 1: who else is going? His shit don't even slap. And
[40:01] Speaker 1: don't he be doing like the Nazi? Who's insuring this?
[40:08] Speaker 2: I had to re-Google because I saw the April 1st
[40:10] Speaker 2: date and thought about that holiday. But there's two of them.
[40:17] Speaker 2: There's two dates. So that, you know.
[40:20] Speaker 1: So as I recall, a part of the problem that
[40:23] Speaker 1: Kanye had been having was, you know, the way the
[40:28] Speaker 1: ticket game is so controlled. It didn't seem like anybody
[40:31] Speaker 1: was willing to book him. But somebody thinks they can
[40:35] Speaker 1: get him to buy.
[40:36] Speaker 3: I can't.
[40:39] Speaker 1: I'm going to be really disheartened if he could sell
[40:41] Speaker 1: that many tickets at this point.
[40:44] Speaker 2: Yeah, it's do these people not have Google?
[40:48] Speaker 1: Or is that the problem that they do? What is
[40:52] Speaker 1: that parking lot going to look like? What is that
[40:56] Speaker 1: crowd going to look like? And I feel very confident
[40:58] Speaker 1: saying a bunch of white dudes. Some of them with
[41:02] Speaker 1: chains hanging from their belts. You know what I'm.
[41:07] Speaker 2: Saying? Yeah, it's whatever is going on at SoFi when
[41:11] Speaker 2: Con is there. I am not.
[41:13] Speaker 1: Couldn't be me.
[41:14] Speaker 2: Not interested in any part of that. All right, with
[41:19] Speaker 2: the war in Iran going on, you've seen a lot
[41:20] Speaker 2: of things from the U.S. government almost treating this like
[41:23] Speaker 2: a video game, tweeting out AI-generated quips, celebrating their strikes via,
[41:31] Speaker 2: you know, through the presidents and many other politicians, social channels. Beau,
[41:37] Speaker 2: this caught your eye. What are your thoughts?
[41:43] Speaker 1: I would feel a little better about this whole situation.
[41:47] Speaker 1: if them boys in Iran didn't seem so completely unafraid, Ryan,
[41:53] Speaker 1: everything I see them say goes beyond tough talk into
[41:57] Speaker 1: that place where you'd be like, Hey man, leave them
[41:58] Speaker 1: alone though. Like, like, like they don't this, this, they're not,
[42:05] Speaker 1: they're not worried in the least about what it feels like.
[42:09] Speaker 1: They trying to dare the U S into like, it's,
[42:14] Speaker 1: it feels like, it's like when you dare, like, they
[42:17] Speaker 1: got eight men up on the line, and they throw it,
[42:20] Speaker 1: throw it. You say, you got it like that, throw it.
[42:23] Speaker 1: Or they put five men in the box. Like, hey,
[42:25] Speaker 1: it's right there, you can just run it. And little
[42:27] Speaker 1: do you know, they got a plan for that. Like,
[42:30] Speaker 1: this is not, this, this is going to take a while.
[42:39] Speaker 2: It always looks like it's going to go fast, and
[42:40] Speaker 2: it takes a lot longer than Yeah. Than people anticipated.
[42:44] Speaker 1: But it's entirely possible that this is going to go
[42:47] Speaker 1: long enough to lead us into, like, international economic ruin.
[42:52] Speaker 3: Yes.
[42:52] Speaker 1: That's the big one. With none of the ships being
[42:54] Speaker 1: able to go through the Strait of Hormuz, I think
[42:56] Speaker 1: that's how you say it. However you say it, that's
[42:59] Speaker 1: not the part that matters. You see what Trump said,
[43:02] Speaker 1: that the guys driving the oil tankers just need to
[43:04] Speaker 1: get some guts and drive their tanks through.
[43:06] Speaker 2: Hey, just stick it through that hole, see what happens.
[43:08] Speaker 1: Yeah, guts ain't bulletproof, homeboy.
[43:10] Speaker 3: No. Right?
[43:11] Speaker 1: Like, they are not... No, that's not. And by the way,
[43:15] Speaker 1: he wasn't talking about soldiers. Right. You can tell the
[43:18] Speaker 1: soldiers they need to toughen up. These people just work
[43:20] Speaker 1: for the oil company.
[43:22] Speaker 2: Yeah, that's that's, you know, they don't get paid that much.
[43:25] Speaker 1: No, no, no. They're not going to do this. This
[43:28] Speaker 1: is not. It's interesting. The news from the West looks
[43:31] Speaker 1: different than the news from the East. The news, the
[43:33] Speaker 1: news that is not from like the United States gives
[43:35] Speaker 1: the impression that this is not. It's like the U.S.,
[43:40] Speaker 1: They running against some boys that's out here running an
[43:43] Speaker 1: option that you've never seen. Like, you remember what it
[43:45] Speaker 1: was like, like the first time you saw Rich Rodriguez
[43:47] Speaker 1: in West Virginia? You're like, yo, that's the option, but
[43:50] Speaker 1: that's a whole new spin on that.
[43:52] Speaker 2: I remember the Darren McFadden days at Arkansas. Yeah, I
[43:57] Speaker 2: didn't realize they could do that. Like, to your point,
[44:00] Speaker 2: I didn't realize that was an option.
[44:02] Speaker 1: Yeah, that's what's going on here. And this is what
[44:04] Speaker 1: we've got. And these gas prices are about to go
[44:07] Speaker 1: through the roof. There's a World Cup. That's about to
[44:11] Speaker 1: happen here. That sounds a little anxiety inducing.
[44:15] Speaker 2: Yeah.
[44:17] Speaker 1: It's not what I thought life was going to be
[44:22] Speaker 1: like in my.
[44:23] Speaker 2: 40s, Ryan.
[44:24] Speaker 1: It's not.
[44:27] Speaker 2: All right, Bo, a couple of voicemails. A lot of
[44:35] Speaker 2: good ones. Here's our first.
[44:37] Speaker 3: Hey, Bo.
[44:38] Speaker 7: This is Curtis from Dallas, Texas.
[44:41] Speaker 2: Love your show.
[44:41] Speaker 7: Love everything that you're doing. I'm thinking about the hip-hop
[44:44] Speaker 7: segment that you've been doing, and I'm thinking about in 96,
[44:49] Speaker 7: when we think about the features of R & B
[44:52] Speaker 7: artists with some of these hip-hop tunes, kind of want
[44:56] Speaker 7: to get your take on it, and what are you
[44:57] Speaker 7: thinking of what are some of the best in 96
[45:01] Speaker 7: that were able to get with R & B artists?
[45:03] Speaker 3: Thank you.
[45:06] Speaker 1: I just have to say that every single person involved
[45:08] Speaker 1: has an amazing level of faith. and my ability to
[45:12] Speaker 1: pull information off the top of my head is your
[45:16] Speaker 1: favorite R & B feature.
[45:17] Speaker 2: To be fair.
[45:18] Speaker 1: Specifically from the year.
[45:20] Speaker 2: To be fair, I did that too.
[45:22] Speaker 4: Yes.
[45:22] Speaker 1: I don't know. I was also talking about you.
[45:26] Speaker 2: Yes.
[45:28] Speaker 1: Don't you worry, buddy. You were also involved in this.
[45:32] Speaker 1: And I feel a little bit lucky because I just
[45:35] Speaker 1: looked it up. And while it does not exactly fall
[45:38] Speaker 1: in this category, at the 23rd Annual American Music Awards
[45:41] Speaker 1: on January 29th, 1996, Mariah Carey performed Fantasy, and I
[45:47] Speaker 1: believe with the ODB remix, because that's the OG of them,
[45:52] Speaker 1: is that one. Which is to say, let's just give
[45:56] Speaker 1: that as the answer and let both slide.
[45:58] Speaker 2: See, I knew you'd get there.
[46:00] Speaker 1: Thank you so much. I appreciate your faith in me
[46:03] Speaker 1: as well. A great way to spend that.
[46:06] Speaker 2: All right. Here's our next one that you'll enjoy a
[46:08] Speaker 2: lot more.
[46:09] Speaker 3: Yes.
[46:10] Speaker 4: Hey, Bomani. This is Adrian. I'm a longtime listener. And
[46:14] Speaker 4: I just had a question. You and I are around
[46:18] Speaker 4: the same age. I grew up in Tennessee. I'm a
[46:22] Speaker 4: black man who reveres Dr. King like yourself. But I've
[46:27] Speaker 4: always wondered when you're making fun of Morehouse, how easy
[46:33] Speaker 4: that was to Because when I first heard you do it,
[46:36] Speaker 4: I was shocked because I'm like, whoa, we don't talk
[46:38] Speaker 4: about Dr. King's alum like that. And then I realized, oh,
[46:43] Speaker 4: you know, you're from Atlanta. You went to Clark Atlanta University.
[46:47] Speaker 4: So was that just natural? Is that natural for someone
[46:51] Speaker 4: from Atlanta or who goes to, you know, Clark Atlanta
[46:55] Speaker 4: to just, hey, we're going to bang on that. We're
[46:58] Speaker 4: going to bang on Morehouse. Sorry, guys. Or was there
[47:02] Speaker 4: any kind of hesitation like, Outside looking in, I've always
[47:06] Speaker 4: wondered about that. You clearly revere the man, as we
[47:10] Speaker 4: all do, but those Morehouse jokes always hit and are hilarious,
[47:15] Speaker 4: but I just didn't know if that came natural or
[47:18] Speaker 4: if there was ever any kind of hesitation. Love the show.
[47:23] Speaker 1: Let me read something for you right fast. Ryan, I
[47:27] Speaker 1: don't think I sent this to you. The other day,
[47:30] Speaker 1: I went into the stranger box on my Instagram. I
[47:33] Speaker 1: rarely do that. Um, so rarely, like one of the
[47:36] Speaker 1: boxes I ain't even know was there. It was like
[47:37] Speaker 1: the hidden request box. And I rolled back. I went
[47:40] Speaker 1: back a long way because I was just seeing what
[47:42] Speaker 1: was in there. And I see this. I don't know
[47:45] Speaker 1: why I read it, but I did. Love your show,
[47:50] Speaker 1: but your intentional mispronunciation of wrestling, while funny in the early,
[47:55] Speaker 1: early days, now feels played. And I think you do
[47:58] Speaker 1: it because it annoys. Having dated someone from CAU, This
[48:02] Speaker 1: explains a great deal about both of you. I guess
[48:05] Speaker 1: I'll be the bigger person and just skip the episodes
[48:08] Speaker 1: where this happens and hope for better in a couple
[48:11] Speaker 1: of days. I knew the second I clicked on this
[48:15] Speaker 1: motherfucker's account and looked at his pictures that it would
[48:18] Speaker 1: be a goddamn Morehouse hoodie in here somewhere. And you
[48:21] Speaker 1: know what? It's there. It's there. And so I replied
[48:27] Speaker 1: to him and told him what he needed to hear,
[48:30] Speaker 1: which was... What a dork. What a dork. I just
[48:39] Speaker 1: couldn't believe. You a grown man watching wrestling. and you
[48:45] Speaker 1: going to try to be hoity-toity with me? How could
[48:49] Speaker 1: you possibly do that? You watch wrestling as a grown man.
[48:53] Speaker 1: You see the right to be snooty at that point.
[48:57] Speaker 1: If you're going to be snooty and wrestling, you have
[49:00] Speaker 1: to be the snooty wrestler. You got to be Lord
[49:04] Speaker 1: Steven Regal. You know what I'm saying? Like you got
[49:06] Speaker 1: to be, you got to actually be the character to
[49:08] Speaker 1: be that. I bring that up in response to what
[49:11] Speaker 1: that man said to say, does it come naturally? Do you,
[49:16] Speaker 1: see how they be acting? Because let me tell you something.
[49:19] Speaker 1: I never met Dr. King. Okay? But I met all
[49:23] Speaker 1: these other dudes that went to Morehouse. And let me
[49:25] Speaker 1: tell you something. Not one of them has ever reminded
[49:28] Speaker 1: me of Martin Luther King in any way whatsoever. So
[49:32] Speaker 1: is it hard for me to joke on Morehouse because
[49:35] Speaker 1: Martin Luther King went there? Brother, if Martin Luther King
[49:38] Speaker 1: was here, I'd have to joke on him because it
[49:40] Speaker 1: doesn't make any sense that he went there deep down.
[49:44] Speaker 1: What are you talking about? Look, I was actually thinking
[49:47] Speaker 1: about this, right? Because I think about King, and this
[49:52] Speaker 1: is bigger than King, right? This is broader, but even still.
[49:58] Speaker 1: King got shot on the balcony of a motel where
[50:01] Speaker 1: he was staying in Memphis. And the biggest contrast between
[50:05] Speaker 1: those days and now is that a man in the
[50:08] Speaker 1: position that Martin Luther King had been in, a man
[50:09] Speaker 1: who had won a Nobel Prize, right, was staying in
[50:12] Speaker 1: a motel. Like, whatever version of that is now is
[50:16] Speaker 1: probably riding first class, is probably staying at a super
[50:19] Speaker 1: fancy hotel and all of that, right? Like, that's the
[50:22] Speaker 1: dopeness of King is in part. Now, there's a lot
[50:24] Speaker 1: of factors there, obviously, but still. When they won the
[50:27] Speaker 1: Nobel Prize, he gave all the money to the movement. Like,
[50:29] Speaker 1: that's what kind of man he was, okay? You telling me?
[50:34] Speaker 1: How many of them Morehouse cats you know that be
[50:37] Speaker 1: trying to stay in no motel? And I say that
[50:39] Speaker 1: confidently because I wouldn't be trying to stay at that
[50:41] Speaker 1: motel myself, right? I'm just saying. What he got to
[50:47] Speaker 1: do with them?
[50:51] Speaker 2: All right, here's our next one.
[50:54] Speaker 4: Hey, Bo.
[50:55] Speaker 3: This is Ed calling to you from San Antonio.
[50:58] Speaker 8: I used to live in Memphis many.
[50:59] Speaker 4: Many years ago.
[51:00] Speaker 3: At the time, I was doing TV installs back when
[51:04] Speaker 3: flat panel TVs were like $ 8, 000. So anyway, this is
[51:08] Speaker 3: early 2000s, and Jason White Chocolate Williams is on the Grizzlies,
[51:14] Speaker 3: and I get hired to head over to his house
[51:18] Speaker 3: to install some TVs.
[51:20] Speaker 8: I'd never met Jason before.
[51:21] Speaker 3: But Jason's wife was there, and she was really, really
[51:23] Speaker 3: nice and, like, really, really cool. She was really helpful
[51:27] Speaker 3: and a nice person, so she was helping me around there.
[51:30] Speaker 8: But she is a white lady whose name is Danika, D-E-N-I-K-A, Danika.
[51:38] Speaker 8: There's something sort of beautiful about white chocolate marrying a
[51:42] Speaker 8: white woman whose first name is Danika.
[51:44] Speaker 4: Shout out.
[51:47] Speaker 1: I was about to say, on brand, number one, number two,
[51:49] Speaker 1: and that is West Virginia different, man. I was about
[51:54] Speaker 1: to say, I feel very confident that they've been together
[51:58] Speaker 1: since 11th grade. Wow.
[52:02] Speaker 4: Yeah.
[52:04] Speaker 1: I'd watch a Jason Williams documentary.
[52:06] Speaker 2: For sure.
[52:07] Speaker 1: We could go back with him to West Virginia and
[52:09] Speaker 1: catch up with some of the homies, the non-Randy Moss homies.
[52:15] Speaker 1: I'd watch.
[52:16] Speaker 2: All right, here's our last one.
[52:18] Speaker 6: Bo, this is Devin calling from Florida. Had to get
[52:22] Speaker 6: in on the naming trend. Had an appointment with a
[52:27] Speaker 6: client on Friday via Zoom. Never met the client.
[52:31] Speaker 4: I traded some voicemails.
[52:33] Speaker 6: Just knew that when I met with Letitia, I was
[52:37] Speaker 6: meeting with one of my own. Bo, when she answered
[52:43] Speaker 6: the line, my face must have said it all. Because
[52:48] Speaker 6: this was 100% the whitest Letitia I have ever seen
[52:53] Speaker 6: in my entire life. I'm talking dress bar white. This
[52:58] Speaker 6: lady must have seen my face because the first words
[53:01] Speaker 6: out of her mouth were, not what you expected, huh?
[53:06] Speaker 6: So after I picked up my face, put it back on,
[53:09] Speaker 6: had a great conversation.
[53:11] Speaker 7: She was cool.
[53:12] Speaker 6: We got everything done. But, yeah, was not expecting to
[53:16] Speaker 6: have that happen to me after all of the times
[53:20] Speaker 6: I've heard it talked about on the show. That's all.
[53:23] Speaker 6: Keep doing what you're doing. Love it. Ryan, love having
[53:26] Speaker 6: you on the program.
[53:27] Speaker 4: Talk to y'all later.
[53:28] Speaker 1: You know, the irony of it, Ryan, is in hearing him,
[53:31] Speaker 1: I thought that that was like a Dusty Rhodes type
[53:33] Speaker 1: white man. When he said, I thought it was one
[53:36] Speaker 1: of my own. I was like, oh, so you're not
[53:38] Speaker 1: one of... Oh, okay, cool.
[53:39] Speaker 5: Let's go.
[53:41] Speaker 1: We are scrambling all the brain wires.
[53:44] Speaker 2: For sure. It is very funny, the difference in those
[53:48] Speaker 2: calls between the two Americas.
[53:50] Speaker 3: It is.
[53:52] Speaker 2: Because One America calls and I was like, oh, look
[53:54] Speaker 2: at this. And then there's always like a element of
[53:57] Speaker 2: confusion from the other one. Like, I don't understand how
[54:01] Speaker 2: we got here.
[54:02] Speaker 1: And I love that we have a place that we
[54:03] Speaker 1: can all come together and discuss these things. Because what
[54:05] Speaker 1: I'm learning in this is y'all been waiting for the
[54:07] Speaker 1: place to feel comfortable to come out here and have
[54:09] Speaker 1: these discussions. Somebody to tell you it was okay.
[54:12] Speaker 2: Yeah, it's my job to give everyone equal time.
[54:14] Speaker 1: There we go. Great job. It's a great job. It's appreciate.
