Bomani Jones reacts to a wild NBA playoff weekend as the Celtics’ season ends, the Nuggets’ championship window gets a lot more complicated, and the New York Knicks suddenly have no excuse not to win the East. Bo breaks down why Boston may no longer be the same team that won the title, what Jason Tatum’s injury means for the Celtics going forward, and why the margins have gotten so tight for recent NBA champions. Then, he looks at Nikola Jokic, the Nuggets’ playoff exit, and why the backlash to Denver says as much about NBA discourse as it does about Jokic himself. Plus, Bomani explains why the Knicks should now be viewed as the favorite in the East, why Madison Square Garden is facing its biggest basketball pressure in decades, and why New York fans are right to expect this team to get it done. He also discusses his viral clip discussing The Wire vs. The Sopranos, the return of Verzuz and takes more of your voicemails! Learn more about your ad choices. [0:01] Speaker 1: Wave.
[0:09] Speaker 2: Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the right time. A wave original.
[0:13] Speaker 2: My name is Beaumont Jones. Thanks for listening wherever you
[0:15] Speaker 2: get your podcasts. Thanks for watching us on YouTube. Subscribe, like,
[0:19] Speaker 2: rate us, review us, give us five stars. You only
[0:21] Speaker 2: give us four stars. I'm inclined to believe you are
[0:25] Speaker 2: a hater. We're going to talk about who's going to
[0:27] Speaker 2: win or who better win the East in a few minutes.
[0:30] Speaker 2: But first, we're going to talk about who did not
[0:33] Speaker 2: win the East. I know, again, Ryan, this feels like
[0:37] Speaker 2: we societally are just being negative as a culture by
[0:40] Speaker 2: immediately going there. But the Celtics, What a way to
[0:45] Speaker 2: go out.
[0:46] Speaker 3: Right.
[0:47] Speaker 1: I can't even go.
[0:48] Speaker 2: As far as I want because this is an EPMD line.
[0:50] Speaker 2: My brothers say all the time, what a way to
[0:52] Speaker 2: go out, out like a sucker. And I don't think
[0:55] Speaker 2: that they went out like suckers.
[0:58] Speaker 4: Right.
[0:58] Speaker 2: That is not fair. They did go out with a
[1:02] Speaker 2: starting lineup that had Rod Harper Jr., Baylor, what's his name?
[1:09] Speaker 2: And did he start Luka Garza?
[1:13] Speaker 5: Luka Garza started.
[1:14] Speaker 1: No, Luka Garza, who is a very.
[1:19] Speaker 1: Wow, he's in the league. You know what I mean?
[1:21] Speaker 2: Remember, our question was about whether or not, because he
[1:23] Speaker 2: was such a good college player, as to whether or
[1:25] Speaker 2: not he's an NBA player. And I have no idea
[1:28] Speaker 2: if he's an NBA player. I just know he's been
[1:30] Speaker 2: on an NBA team, and he is on the NBA
[1:34] Speaker 2: team that has great value in somebody looking like him
[1:38] Speaker 2: wearing a warm-up suit. Just like they got old boy
[1:42] Speaker 2: Gonzalez that's out there.
[1:44] Speaker 1: And I know they took him in the first round.
[1:46] Speaker 2: I'm just saying, I know how the Celtics have operated
[1:49] Speaker 2: over time. They need you to fill out that white
[1:53] Speaker 2: warmup suit in a certain way. Like a few guys
[1:56] Speaker 2: got to do that. If you're not going to play,
[1:58] Speaker 2: people got to be happy to choose a round. Look
[2:00] Speaker 2: how much money Brian Scalabrini done made.
[2:02] Speaker 1: Off of that. You understand what I'm saying? Not that
[2:03] Speaker 1: he couldn't hoop.
[2:04] Speaker 2: But anyway, I ain't know Luka Garza got to, like,
[2:07] Speaker 2: get on the floor unless, you know, everything was under control.
[2:12] Speaker 1: And 0-0?
[2:14] Speaker 5: Game seven?
[2:15] Speaker 1: Yeah.
[2:15] Speaker 2: Like, I don't think Luka Garza ever again thought that
[2:17] Speaker 2: he would ever be able to play in a tie game.
[2:22] Speaker 1: You know what I'm saying?
[2:22] Speaker 2: Like a game where he was doing anything other than
[2:25] Speaker 2: making people feel good?
[2:26] Speaker 5: Not the human victory cigar?
[2:28] Speaker 1: Never dawned on him. Not one time.
[2:31] Speaker 2: But the Celtics... Look, the thing with the Celtics is...
[2:35] Speaker 2: I said this about Denver last week, where I think
[2:38] Speaker 2: in some ways we misunderstood what the window was. The
[2:41] Speaker 2: window really opened in 2021 when they got Aaron Gordon,
[2:44] Speaker 2: but the problem was Jamal Murray tore his ACL and
[2:47] Speaker 2: missed the next two postseasons. But that was in the window, right?
[2:51] Speaker 2: And before the window closed, they won in 2023. And
[2:56] Speaker 2: then the next year, I also thought that they were
[2:57] Speaker 2: going to win. But hey, a couple of moves made
[2:59] Speaker 2: the team a bit worse. And I think maybe part
[3:01] Speaker 2: of what we got here is that the margins... on
[3:05] Speaker 2: the changes that happened to your team have gotten a
[3:08] Speaker 2: lot tighter and a little change can make you a
[3:11] Speaker 2: lot worse relative to your peers than you were.
[3:15] Speaker 1: And Boston had those.
[3:17] Speaker 2: And that's before we talk about the Jason Tatum of
[3:20] Speaker 2: it all, right? Drew Holiday does not play for them anymore, right? Ryan,
[3:26] Speaker 2: correct me if I'm wrong. They got Drew Holiday out
[3:29] Speaker 2: of there and they got Anthony Simons back. Like those
[3:32] Speaker 2: are the parts that matter. And then- They traded Anthony
[3:35] Speaker 2: Simons to get Vucevic, who did not play in game seven.
[3:40] Speaker 1: Right. With Joel Embiid back, by the way, right? You
[3:45] Speaker 1: put Luka Garza on the floor.
[3:50] Speaker 2: And you told Vucevic, hey, no need for you to
[3:52] Speaker 2: put on the white socks. You could keep the ones
[3:57] Speaker 2: on that you wore to the arena or maybe not wear.
[4:01] Speaker 1: Any at all. It's your decision.
[4:05] Speaker 2: That's where they were. And they, look, they got smoked
[4:07] Speaker 2: off the top. It turned into a very good game
[4:10] Speaker 2: by the time it got to the end.
[4:11] Speaker 1: Embiid, man. Look, Embiid is always hurt.
[4:14] Speaker 2: You can make that argument, but you can't say he's
[4:17] Speaker 2: not tough.
[4:18] Speaker 4: Right.
[4:19] Speaker 5: Right?
[4:19] Speaker 2: Like, he gets out there and, you know, maybe he
[4:22] Speaker 2: Maybe he plays up a little bit some of this, right?
[4:25] Speaker 1: He janky as hell though, boy. He is the, he
[4:28] Speaker 1: out there like a wrestler.
[4:30] Speaker 2: Like I was talking to somebody and I was like,
[4:31] Speaker 2: he do all that Ric Flair shit where like he
[4:33] Speaker 2: throws you to the ground and act like you hit
[4:35] Speaker 2: him in the face. Right. Or like once he knows
[4:38] Speaker 2: he's going to be going down or whatever reason, he's
[4:40] Speaker 2: there to get somebody else along the way. He's also
[4:44] Speaker 2: an awesome basketball player, an awesome basketball player. And I
[4:49] Speaker 2: think I saw Michael Wilbon trying to make this point.
[4:51] Speaker 2: And I don't think he was making it by the NBA.
[4:53] Speaker 1: He missed it.
[4:53] Speaker 2: He was talking about how big man typically don't shoot
[4:56] Speaker 2: free throws well, but he's an 85 percent free throw
[4:58] Speaker 2: shooter who, if I am not mistaken, is the NBA
[5:01] Speaker 2: all time leader in free throws made per game. Like
[5:06] Speaker 2: he is, he's that guy in so many ways. He
[5:10] Speaker 2: just also has never played 70 games in an NBA season.
[5:14] Speaker 1: He never has. I have forgotten he was there, right?
[5:18] Speaker 2: Like, I knew he had the appendix thing, but I
[5:19] Speaker 2: felt like it was always something else. Like, you can't
[5:22] Speaker 2: count on him, and we can talk about what the
[5:23] Speaker 2: future is or whatever it is.
[5:24] Speaker 1: But, like, he got it done in this game.
[5:26] Speaker 2: And then Tyrese Maxey, like, look, the Sixers have made
[5:30] Speaker 2: the decision that they're going to put their future in
[5:33] Speaker 2: the hands of Maxey and now Vijay Edgecombe, right? Maxey
[5:38] Speaker 2: obviously has two problems that if you listen to me,
[5:40] Speaker 2: you know that I find to be very important, right?
[5:43] Speaker 2: One of them, small guard. Number two, he from Dallas.
[5:47] Speaker 2: And if you go, like, just follow somebody from Dallas
[5:50] Speaker 2: and say, hey, take me wherever you lead us, I
[5:52] Speaker 2: personally wouldn't do that. You're going to wind up somewhere
[5:56] Speaker 2: getting a shag haircut doing shit like that.
[5:59] Speaker 1: I'm just telling you, I would not recommend that. But anyway,
[6:03] Speaker 1: to the Celtics of it all, Ryan, I think it's fair.
[6:06] Speaker 2: Jason Tatum, we've seen the best of what he would be.
[6:11] Speaker 5: Most likely, yes.
[6:13] Speaker 2: It is possible that what happened here, we wound up
[6:16] Speaker 2: with a calf injury on the other leg.
[6:19] Speaker 1: If it ain't one thing, it's another.
[6:20] Speaker 2: Like I saw a quote where Elton Brand said, the
[6:22] Speaker 2: thing about coming back from an Achilles is everything else
[6:24] Speaker 2: breaks down after that, right? Like your body does all
[6:27] Speaker 2: the compensating and then everything else.
[6:29] Speaker 5: Especially if you sprint back like Jason Tatum did.
[6:32] Speaker 1: Yeah.
[6:33] Speaker 2: And he also has a very physically demanding game. All
[6:34] Speaker 2: them step backs and all this other stuff. Like at 27,
[6:39] Speaker 2: I guess he is now. he's had a Hall of
[6:43] Speaker 2: Fame career as it stands. It's not going to be
[6:46] Speaker 2: this good again, in all likelihood. Derek White does not
[6:50] Speaker 2: appear to be the player that he was two years ago.
[6:53] Speaker 2: Imagine watching Derek White in this series and somebody telling
[6:56] Speaker 2: you that he was on the Olympic team.
[6:59] Speaker 5: A crucial part of the Olympic team where Jason Tatum
[7:01] Speaker 5: was on the bench.
[7:01] Speaker 1: Jason Tatum was not playing, right?
[7:03] Speaker 2: Needing lots of, like, minutes that matter from Peyton Pritchard,
[7:08] Speaker 2: but in a circumstance where teams can now actually plan
[7:11] Speaker 2: for him, right? Or, like, have something to do to
[7:14] Speaker 2: deal with him when it comes up. Like, all these
[7:16] Speaker 2: things are going on. All I'm saying is this is
[7:19] Speaker 2: a far cry from the team of 2024. Like, this
[7:21] Speaker 2: team does not have Kristaps Porzingis. For example, it seems
[7:24] Speaker 2: to not have Drew Holiday. It seems to not have
[7:27] Speaker 2: healthy Jason Tatum. The window probably a bit shut down.
[7:31] Speaker 2: And on top of that, their best player sat his
[7:35] Speaker 2: ass up on a live stream and said that this
[7:39] Speaker 2: was the most fun season that he's ever had because
[7:42] Speaker 2: he got to be.
[7:42] Speaker 1: The number one option.
[7:44] Speaker 2: A totally understandable outlook. I get where you're coming from, right?
[7:50] Speaker 2: His ambitions have been to be the number one option
[7:53] Speaker 2: on a team, and he has always been, at most,
[7:56] Speaker 2: one beat. Right? But you don't say that after y'all
[8:03] Speaker 2: lost in the first round.
[8:04] Speaker 1: Are you supposed to be a champion?
[8:06] Speaker 5: You don't get up at your house, turn the live
[8:10] Speaker 5: stream camera on, start pulling up clips like he's breaking
[8:16] Speaker 5: down the Zapruder film.
[8:18] Speaker 1: Well, why are you doing this at all?
[8:21] Speaker 3: Yeah.
[8:21] Speaker 2: Right.
[8:22] Speaker 5: Let's show him how to do this.
[8:24] Speaker 1: Right.
[8:24] Speaker 2: Let's start there. Why are you doing this at all?
[8:27] Speaker 2: And look, the stuff he was talking about with flopping
[8:30] Speaker 2: and everything else.
[8:31] Speaker 1: A big dog. I hear you.
[8:32] Speaker 2: And nobody really wants to hear you whine about that.
[8:35] Speaker 2: But we'd much rather hear you whine about that. Then, man,
[8:39] Speaker 2: being the number one bet, being the man was great.
[8:40] Speaker 2: I mean, the season was kind of bomb.
[8:42] Speaker 1: Dog, ain't nobody trying to hear that out of.
[8:44] Speaker 2: You at this point. Then, you know, I, you know,
[8:49] Speaker 2: I feel about Missoula. I find him to be very,
[8:51] Speaker 2: very interesting. Missoula sat after the game and said that
[8:55] Speaker 2: he felt just as empty after winning a championship as
[8:58] Speaker 2: he does after a loss. And I'm like, oh, buddy,
[9:01] Speaker 2: what what kind of environment do you guys have going
[9:05] Speaker 2: on over here? He's very reasonable when he talks about
[9:08] Speaker 2: how you got to dedicate yourself to the process.
[9:10] Speaker 1: That's the good and the bad of Joe Mazzulla.
[9:12] Speaker 2: Joe Mazzulla coaches NBA basketball very similar to Dean Smith, where, hey,
[9:16] Speaker 2: we just execute, we'll be fine.
[9:18] Speaker 1: And what if what you're doing isn't working? Then we're
[9:21] Speaker 1: going to start executing, damn it.
[9:22] Speaker 2: Right? The plan doesn't ever change. There's never a, hey,
[9:25] Speaker 2: we've missed all these threes. Why don't we go get
[9:26] Speaker 2: an easy bucket right fast? That's not what they do.
[9:31] Speaker 2: That's not what they do.
[9:31] Speaker 1: Just keep shooting up. Just keep chucking up threes. The
[9:33] Speaker 1: game is close late. They're down one. They're down three.
[9:35] Speaker 1: They're chucking threes.
[9:37] Speaker 5: They're down one and Peyton Pritchard is chucking a three.
[9:40] Speaker 1: Right, right.
[9:41] Speaker 2: Guys that shouldn't even be allowed to shoot in a
[9:44] Speaker 2: moment like this.
[9:45] Speaker 1: They're still out here shooting threes. Like all I'm saying
[9:48] Speaker 1: is because of Tatum and Brown.
[9:50] Speaker 2: It felt like they were the same team. And I
[9:53] Speaker 2: had them as a team that's going to walk through
[9:56] Speaker 2: the way through the east obviously this was incorrect this
[10:00] Speaker 2: wasn't it because they weren't The same team. Like, you
[10:04] Speaker 2: realize how ridiculous I feel realizing I picked a team
[10:08] Speaker 2: to win the East that was out here giving real
[10:12] Speaker 2: minutes to Baylor Shireman? And I'll be honest, I almost
[10:16] Speaker 2: called him Bailey because it seemed like his name should
[10:18] Speaker 2: be Bailey. Sam Houser out here playing 30 minutes. That
[10:22] Speaker 2: boy Queda, number 88. He out here getting 33 minutes
[10:28] Speaker 2: in a playoff game.
[10:31] Speaker 1: I thought.
[10:34] Speaker 2: I thought the team that was doing this, a team that, again,
[10:37] Speaker 2: put Luka Garza out here in a game seven to start.
[10:39] Speaker 2: And by the way, Ryan, in Luka Garza's nine minutes,
[10:42] Speaker 2: they were a minus 15. I will also note that
[10:48] Speaker 2: in Jalen Brown's 40 minutes, they were a minus 16.
[10:52] Speaker 5: Starting lineup, game seven, never played together.
[10:56] Speaker 2: Yeah, that was for a man that seems like rigidly
[11:00] Speaker 2: dedicated to habit and process.
[11:03] Speaker 5: Rigidly dedicated, period.
[11:05] Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
[11:06] Speaker 2: He sure picked a hell of a time to like
[11:10] Speaker 2: throw this thing, like throw it all out of whack.
[11:12] Speaker 2: Although I'm looking at the rest of it. If you
[11:15] Speaker 2: had a better idea, I'd love to know what it is.
[11:17] Speaker 2: Like if you have decided that Vucevic is unplayable.
[11:21] Speaker 1: Like, okay, maybe you throw Quaid out. Like, what's the difference?
[11:23] Speaker 3: Right.
[11:24] Speaker 2: I guess is the question. We haven't even talked about
[11:26] Speaker 2: the fact that it's a 3-1 lead that they blew. No,
[11:30] Speaker 2: this team was just, they overachieved in the regular season.
[11:35] Speaker 2: And they just ain't really have what it takes at
[11:37] Speaker 2: this point because the window's probably closed.
[11:42] Speaker 1: Right? Maybe they're in a position, I don't know where
[11:44] Speaker 1: they stand with the aprons or whatever.
[11:46] Speaker 2: Right?
[11:46] Speaker 1: Oh, it was a knee issue for Tatum, not a calf.
[11:49] Speaker 1: My apology. Um, But.
[11:52] Speaker 2: What are they supposed to do at this point? Like,
[11:55] Speaker 2: what is the next move? This is the same thing
[11:57] Speaker 2: that happened with Denver. That window closed and you looked
[12:01] Speaker 2: up and eat away at the margins just a little bit. Now,
[12:06] Speaker 2: they were out there with Eric Gordon hurt, Peyton Watson hurt.
[12:12] Speaker 1: Those weren't small things, right?
[12:14] Speaker 2: The guys that made it possible for you to play
[12:17] Speaker 2: the way you do with Jokic because those guys play
[12:19] Speaker 2: defense weren't able to get out there and play defense.
[12:23] Speaker 1: Okay, that mattered. That was the thing. Jokic, probably a
[12:27] Speaker 1: bit banged up.
[12:29] Speaker 2: And I have seen, I think it's Jake Shapiro who
[12:32] Speaker 2: covers the Nuggets. I don't know if you saw this
[12:34] Speaker 2: on Twitter. Apparently there are questions there, not just about
[12:38] Speaker 2: their head coach, whom I do not think should be
[12:40] Speaker 2: their head coach, But, right, apparently they sound a lot
[12:44] Speaker 2: like the New Orleans, is it the Pelicans?
[12:46] Speaker 1: They had the Saints. Are they sharing training facilities? No,
[12:51] Speaker 1: but they got medical problems.
[12:53] Speaker 5: Yeah, got it.
[12:55] Speaker 1: There's questions about the medical staff.
[12:57] Speaker 2: And these guys continue to suffer like soft tissue injuries
[13:00] Speaker 2: and the likes.
[13:01] Speaker 5: You know, which is always frustrating when the owner of
[13:05] Speaker 5: your team owns.
[13:06] Speaker 1: A football team.
[13:08] Speaker 5: And also owns Wal-Mart.
[13:10] Speaker 1: He does own Walmart. He owns a lot of stuff.
[13:13] Speaker 5: He owns a lot of stuff.
[13:13] Speaker 1: No, no, no. He married into Walmart.
[13:15] Speaker 5: Married into Walmart. But still has Walmart money.
[13:17] Speaker 1: He has the keys.
[13:18] Speaker 5: Yes.
[13:19] Speaker 1: How about that, right? He has the keys.
[13:21] Speaker 5: That's right.
[13:22] Speaker 1: And Walmart owns the football team there.
[13:24] Speaker 3: Yeah.
[13:24] Speaker 1: That actual Walmart.
[13:26] Speaker 2: I would love to know how the real Walmart feels
[13:29] Speaker 2: about that Walmart.
[13:31] Speaker 1: Like, are you familiar with Bud's?
[13:34] Speaker 5: You're going to be more... I am not.
[13:35] Speaker 1: So Bud's is a.
[13:39] Speaker 2: Like a warehouse-style big box store?
[13:42] Speaker 5: Got it, yeah.
[13:43] Speaker 1: Okay.
[13:44] Speaker 2: Do you know what the arena at Arkansas, the basketball
[13:47] Speaker 2: arena is called?
[13:48] Speaker 5: It's not called the Bud's Dome. It's Bud Walton Arena.
[13:52] Speaker 5: Got it.
[13:52] Speaker 1: It's Sam Walton's brother, Bud.
[13:55] Speaker 5: Got it.
[13:56] Speaker 1: Which is to say, I feel like Stan Kroenke is
[13:59] Speaker 1: kind of the Buds.
[14:01] Speaker 5: Yeah, I thought we were going to make a Sam's
[14:03] Speaker 5: Club joke.
[14:05] Speaker 1: Yeah, with Sam's Club.
[14:06] Speaker 2: Yeah.
[14:07] Speaker 1: And then Buds.
[14:08] Speaker 5: Got it.
[14:09] Speaker 1: At his club, like Sam's. Yeah. There we go. Anyway,
[14:14] Speaker 1: people ask questions about their medical staff.
[14:17] Speaker 2: But their window, Aaron Gordon is 12 years in the
[14:20] Speaker 2: league now.
[14:20] Speaker 1: Right. Jokic was drafted the same year as Aaron Gordon.
[14:23] Speaker 2: It's 11 years in the league, but still we're talking
[14:25] Speaker 2: about 12. Jamal Murray, he's not young either. I want
[14:29] Speaker 2: to say Jamal Murray has been in the league for
[14:31] Speaker 2: 10 years now.
[14:33] Speaker 1: Right. I want to say he, like it's somewhere right
[14:35] Speaker 1: in that range. Not his window. Low key kind of close.
[14:41] Speaker 2: Now, again, maybe it would have been a little different,
[14:43] Speaker 2: you know, if they'd had those guys healthy that made
[14:46] Speaker 2: things different in the margins. Jokic paying the price for it, boy,
[14:49] Speaker 2: the internet. Can we be honest about this? The Jokic
[14:55] Speaker 2: arguments after they lost in game six were not arguments
[14:59] Speaker 2: about Jokic. It was people being sick and tired of
[15:03] Speaker 2: a particular class of dork. And the dork backlash just
[15:08] Speaker 2: came flooding in.
[15:11] Speaker 1: And here's what happened.
[15:14] Speaker 2: What happened was Jokic had put up a statistical profile
[15:20] Speaker 2: that was like Wilt Chamberlain-esque in sum total, right? Like
[15:25] Speaker 2: once you got to the advanced part, we'd never seen
[15:27] Speaker 2: anybody that was putting up those numbers like that.
[15:30] Speaker 1: And if you watched it, he was incredible to watch.
[15:33] Speaker 2: The problem was the people who get really wedded to
[15:39] Speaker 2: stats and numbers when making these decisions are ignoring that historically,
[15:46] Speaker 2: We've always made team success a very significant variable in
[15:52] Speaker 2: this discussion. It's the whole reason why nobody says Wilt
[15:57] Speaker 2: Chamberlain was the greatest basketball player of all time. Though
[16:00] Speaker 2: I guarantee you, if I pulled up some clips of
[16:02] Speaker 2: Wilt Chamberlain, you'd never believe that anybody was ever better
[16:06] Speaker 2: at basketball than that guy was, especially relative to his peers, right?
[16:11] Speaker 2: So Jokic, this is the point that Nick used to
[16:14] Speaker 2: make all the time. Like, sorry, maybe I'm just not
[16:17] Speaker 2: trying to call this guy one of the 10 best
[16:18] Speaker 2: players ever before he actually wins a championship. I think
[16:22] Speaker 2: the way it was put, though, was like, maybe I'm
[16:24] Speaker 2: not trying to give him a third MVP until he
[16:26] Speaker 2: wins a championship. And those are things that should have
[16:29] Speaker 2: been left separate from one another. But his general point
[16:32] Speaker 2: was correct.
[16:33] Speaker 1: People got way over their skis before Jokic.
[16:36] Speaker 2: Actually had the pelt on the wall that matters, right?
[16:40] Speaker 2: And by the way, the pelt on the wall, then
[16:41] Speaker 2: I think that matters to Jokic, right? But Jokic talks
[16:44] Speaker 2: about when they lose, if this is Serbia, everybody would
[16:46] Speaker 2: get fired.
[16:48] Speaker 1: He gets it. He understands what the point is.
[16:51] Speaker 2: But the joy that people took almost when Jokic and
[16:55] Speaker 2: them lost, it was simply back at the dorks. Because
[17:00] Speaker 2: think about this. It is one thing to have a
[17:04] Speaker 2: widespread argument about who is better, LeBron James or Michael Jordan,
[17:11] Speaker 2: or to have a widespread argument about who's better, LeBron
[17:16] Speaker 2: James or Kobe Bryant or Bill Russell and Wilt Chamberlain
[17:20] Speaker 2: or a host of others, even if you want to
[17:22] Speaker 2: say Charles Barkley and Karl Malone, Dirk Nowitzki and Kevin Garnett, right?
[17:29] Speaker 1: It makes sense to have arguments in that fashion.
[17:33] Speaker 2: A widespread argument about whether somebody falls between three and
[17:39] Speaker 2: 10 on the all-time list is the most internet contrived
[17:44] Speaker 2: nonsense in the history of all time. Does a person
[17:49] Speaker 2: fall into a range? That's not really an argument. You
[17:56] Speaker 2: understand what I'm saying? But the issue came down to,
[18:00] Speaker 2: it seemed very clear that a group of people had
[18:03] Speaker 2: adopted a new set of rules to adopt the player
[18:07] Speaker 2: that they really like watching at this particular point in time.
[18:16] Speaker 1: And then when that dude came.
[18:18] Speaker 2: Up short, as just about every great player has come
[18:21] Speaker 2: up short at one point in another, as he came
[18:24] Speaker 2: up short, Ryan, him coming up short in that series
[18:26] Speaker 2: reminded me of when Dirk Nowitzki and the Mavericks lost
[18:29] Speaker 2: in 07. But the difference was, They had blown that
[18:33] Speaker 2: 2-0 lead the year before, where it was almost about
[18:37] Speaker 2: to be 3-0 before I think it was Gary Payton
[18:39] Speaker 2: hit that shot in game three. And then they blew
[18:42] Speaker 2: that series, and then they came back, and Dirk was
[18:45] Speaker 2: the MVP, and they lost in the first round to
[18:47] Speaker 2: an eight seed. Right? But Dirk didn't have the receipt yet.
[18:53] Speaker 5: Right.
[18:54] Speaker 2: Jokic has it. And it's just a fight about us.
[18:59] Speaker 2: It ain't got nothing to do with him. And it
[19:00] Speaker 2: got nothing actual factual to do with basketball. It's not
[19:04] Speaker 2: like he's a dude for people to be upset with
[19:06] Speaker 2: or anything. No, people got sick and tired of these
[19:09] Speaker 2: fucking dorks. And the collateral damage was the guy who
[19:14] Speaker 2: quite honestly seems less like one of those dorks than
[19:17] Speaker 2: anybody I could think of. The guy from Sombor.
[19:23] Speaker 1: I wonder if Sombor got dorks. You know what I'm saying? Like,
[19:28] Speaker 1: that's what I would love to see.
[19:29] Speaker 2: Jokic's brothers hanging out with his biggest fans on the internet. Like,
[19:35] Speaker 2: what in the world would those guys talk about when
[19:39] Speaker 2: they were all in the same place?
[19:41] Speaker 1: But the truth is.
[19:42] Speaker 5: Why are you calling me a vorp, you know?
[19:44] Speaker 1: Right, right, right. But for them, what are they going
[19:46] Speaker 1: to do?
[19:46] Speaker 3: Yeah.
[19:47] Speaker 1: What are they going to do? And so what I
[19:48] Speaker 1: think we've seen happen... and i think we talked about
[19:51] Speaker 1: this on this show like look the repeat era is
[19:54] Speaker 1: kind of janky i talked about this alfonso show over
[19:56] Speaker 1: the weekend now the the whole in that there can't
[19:59] Speaker 1: be repeat is going to wind up being the thunder
[20:01] Speaker 1: of the spurs at least for a little while like
[20:03] Speaker 1: they're going.
[20:03] Speaker 2: To be the truest test um to what it is
[20:05] Speaker 2: but no you're not going to see guys i don't
[20:07] Speaker 2: think string together a bunch of rings In that regard,
[20:10] Speaker 2: like we're getting dangerously close to, are we going to have,
[20:15] Speaker 2: you know, wow, it's really interesting now that I think
[20:17] Speaker 2: about this, right? So with the Jordan era, you had
[20:19] Speaker 2: all these guys who didn't win, Ewing, Karl Malone, John Stockton,
[20:23] Speaker 2: Charles Barkley, you know, like just all these guys who
[20:25] Speaker 2: did not get rings because Michael Jordan was hogging all
[20:29] Speaker 2: the rings, right?
[20:31] Speaker 1: What if we also.
[20:32] Speaker 2: Wind up with a case where we get guys who
[20:34] Speaker 2: don't get them just because they never got the spin
[20:36] Speaker 2: on the wheel to get there? Like, when are we
[20:38] Speaker 2: going to get to the, hey, Luca, what's up with you, guy? Like,
[20:43] Speaker 2: guys like him, he's been in the league now for
[20:46] Speaker 2: nine years.
[20:48] Speaker 1: Where the ring at? But are we not, I don't
[20:51] Speaker 1: think we're going to do that. Joel Embiid. Joel Embiid
[20:54] Speaker 1: has been to a conference final.
[20:57] Speaker 2: You know, like, this is, What a window is is
[21:00] Speaker 2: going to be very, very interesting to see and to map.
[21:04] Speaker 2: But it seems like for Denver or for Boston to
[21:08] Speaker 2: be championship contenders, something drastic is probably.
[21:11] Speaker 1: Going to have to change.
[21:18] Speaker 2: When we first started recording this show, we had to
[21:21] Speaker 2: start it over and come back because I was trying
[21:23] Speaker 2: to do a tease, right, where I would say something.
[21:26] Speaker 2: Make you want to come back and listen a little later.
[21:28] Speaker 1: Hold through. You know what I'm saying? Be excited. Wet
[21:30] Speaker 1: your appetite. Wet with an H. You know what I'm saying?
[21:34] Speaker 1: That's what I was going for.
[21:35] Speaker 2: And I said, I'm going to get to the most
[21:38] Speaker 2: interesting thing to happen in New York in 30 years.
[21:40] Speaker 1: And we re-recorded it. Because Ryan made the fair.
[21:43] Speaker 2: Point, whether I wanted, you know, he was like, you know,
[21:45] Speaker 2: there's something that happened in the last 30 years.
[21:47] Speaker 1: Are you sure you want to do this? And I
[21:49] Speaker 1: was like, well, that wasn't really interesting.
[21:50] Speaker 5: Yeah, interesting. Yeah, it's not the most perfect adjective.
[21:54] Speaker 2: Yeah, nobody was like, yo, the most interesting thing happened today.
[21:58] Speaker 1: Let me tell you about it. Yeah.
[22:00] Speaker 2: Right.
[22:01] Speaker 1: Yes.
[22:01] Speaker 5: A plane.
[22:03] Speaker 1: But he was right. It plays better me explaining what
[22:08] Speaker 1: the story was. than he does actually doing it.
[22:11] Speaker 5: Especially, you know, 20 minutes in, then 20 seconds in.
[22:14] Speaker 2: That's great. We still made content out of that moment, right?
[22:18] Speaker 2: That's how pros do it, kids. That's how pros do it.
[22:22] Speaker 2: But no, I do think that this is, at least
[22:24] Speaker 2: in a sporting sense, this is the most interesting thing
[22:26] Speaker 2: I'd say to happen in New York in 30 years,
[22:28] Speaker 2: and it's this. The New York Knicks have zero excuse
[22:36] Speaker 2: if they do not win the East. I think they
[22:40] Speaker 2: should be the favorites.
[22:42] Speaker 5: They are.
[22:43] Speaker 1: To win the East. Yeah, they're the favorites to win
[22:46] Speaker 1: the East.
[22:46] Speaker 2: They easily looked superior to all the teams that are
[22:52] Speaker 2: this far in the East. And I think we need
[22:55] Speaker 2: to give them a measure of credit. I don't remember
[22:57] Speaker 2: if I said this here, but they got down 2-1
[23:02] Speaker 2: to the Hawks. And they didn't just beat them the
[23:05] Speaker 2: next three games. they blew their doors off in a
[23:08] Speaker 2: way where I think there's a confirmation bias element that
[23:13] Speaker 2: comes in circumstances like this. Like if you really thought
[23:15] Speaker 2: that they were some bosses, you would be like, hey,
[23:18] Speaker 2: they knew what time it was and then they stood
[23:20] Speaker 2: up and they decided to win, right? I just know
[23:25] Speaker 2: on Friday night, I've never seen a team with a
[23:31] Speaker 2: score in the 70s and the other team had a
[23:34] Speaker 2: score in the 20s.
[23:37] Speaker 1: It might have even been in the teens. I've never,
[23:42] Speaker 1: ever seen.
[23:42] Speaker 2: A team up by 50 points with like six minutes
[23:47] Speaker 2: left in the second quarter. They, it was outright destruction
[23:53] Speaker 2: and not just the Hawks are playing badly.
[23:57] Speaker 1: If you had put the Knicks in.
[23:59] Speaker 2: Golden State Warrior suits in 2016, Or the Thunder, right?
[24:05] Speaker 2: Or the Spurs or any team that you think of
[24:08] Speaker 2: as truly being in that championship caliber. That would have
[24:11] Speaker 2: been the first story on every show coming in here
[24:13] Speaker 2: was just like, so do you think anybody will ever
[24:16] Speaker 2: beat them?
[24:17] Speaker 5: Right?
[24:17] Speaker 1: Do you think there's a chance they can sweep it out?
[24:19] Speaker 1: That's how good they look against the Hawks. Running the
[24:23] Speaker 1: offense through towns.
[24:25] Speaker 2: It seems they fix the wildest thing. If you do
[24:29] Speaker 2: things through your most talented player. amazing what might happen, right?
[24:33] Speaker 2: You know, that's, look, that's a lot of, a lot of,
[24:35] Speaker 2: there's a lot going on with that decision and how
[24:37] Speaker 2: they got there or anything else. But the truth is,
[24:39] Speaker 2: they look like the best team in the East and
[24:40] Speaker 2: we said going into this year, there's no reason why
[24:43] Speaker 2: they could not win the East. Whether you thought they
[24:45] Speaker 2: would or not would be its own discussion. But there
[24:47] Speaker 2: was no, here's the reason why they can't win the East.
[24:50] Speaker 2: That was never there. The only reason that's been there
[24:52] Speaker 2: that they could not win the East was themselves. Which means,
[24:57] Speaker 2: and where this gets fun, this has to be the
[24:59] Speaker 2: most pressure that the New York Knicks have been under
[25:03] Speaker 2: since 1994, 1995?
[25:05] Speaker 1: It's got to be.
[25:09] Speaker 2: When I got here nine years ago, man, I always
[25:12] Speaker 2: say I feel like Knicks fans get a bad rap.
[25:14] Speaker 1: I really do.
[25:15] Speaker 2: Because they really care. They really, really do love that team.
[25:18] Speaker 2: And when I first got here, man, and they would
[25:20] Speaker 2: stop me on the street, they was just asking me
[25:22] Speaker 2: to say anything nice.
[25:24] Speaker 1: You know what I'm saying? Like....
[25:27] Speaker 2: They just like, please give us some reason for hope
[25:29] Speaker 2: for some optimism or whatever it is.
[25:31] Speaker 1: Now, here's the thing about the Knicks fans. Their transition
[25:35] Speaker 1: for we just want to be good to. All right,
[25:40] Speaker 1: let's go. It's quick. It is very, very quick. But
[25:45] Speaker 1: it is justified at this point.
[25:48] Speaker 4: Right.
[25:48] Speaker 2: For them to view this as a team that should
[25:51] Speaker 2: win and to demand of it that they do win
[25:54] Speaker 2: the East.
[25:57] Speaker 1: I see it. This is not the Knicks.
[25:59] Speaker 2: Went on a five-game winning streak in 2012, and now
[26:02] Speaker 2: they think they can win three championships. That's not what's
[26:04] Speaker 2: going on here this time. This is, you guys look
[26:07] Speaker 2: like the best team left.
[26:08] Speaker 1: You should get this done.
[26:09] Speaker 2: You are going to play against the Philadelphia 76ers. You
[26:13] Speaker 2: should beat them, right? Because even though Embiid has dialed
[26:17] Speaker 2: it up, that's still a fairly reduced form of Embiid.
[26:20] Speaker 5: And we, just because we got a good... Embiid is
[26:24] Speaker 5: playing through 30-plus minutes of one game.
[26:27] Speaker 2: Yes.
[26:27] Speaker 5: Does not mean he will be playing through 30 minutes
[26:29] Speaker 5: of the next game.
[26:30] Speaker 1: That is correct. But look, it really comes down to this, man.
[26:32] Speaker 1: Carl got a ball. Right.
[26:34] Speaker 2: Like, to me, for them to do the things that
[26:38] Speaker 2: I think they should do, he should be their best player, right?
[26:41] Speaker 2: He should be out there getting you 20-something a night.
[26:44] Speaker 1: Now.
[26:45] Speaker 2: The way he's played in these last few games and
[26:47] Speaker 2: dialing back the FGAs and stuff like that have been interesting.
[26:51] Speaker 1: But he can't be out there with the stupid fouls.
[26:54] Speaker 2: He's got to be on the floor to provide in
[26:57] Speaker 2: that way. But the Pistons, who also I think deserve
[27:01] Speaker 2: a measure of credit for making the we got to
[27:03] Speaker 2: dial it up decision, they have structural flaws that I
[27:07] Speaker 2: do not believe the Knicks have, which is they only
[27:09] Speaker 2: got one guy that can go get a bucket. The
[27:12] Speaker 2: Knicks don't have that problem. The Knicks have a lot
[27:15] Speaker 2: of good players. Like I think that's actually a little
[27:18] Speaker 2: bit underrated about them is the quantity of good players
[27:22] Speaker 2: that the Knicks have.
[27:24] Speaker 1: They got a lot of guys that you would like
[27:27] Speaker 1: to have on your team.
[27:28] Speaker 2: Like OG Ananobi being like the third or fourth name
[27:31] Speaker 2: that you typically talk about when you talk about this team.
[27:33] Speaker 1: Hey man, OG can ball, right?
[27:36] Speaker 2: They've got what it takes to go ahead and and
[27:39] Speaker 2: do this, and I can't wait to see how that
[27:42] Speaker 2: plays out here, boy. Like, I need to start doing
[27:45] Speaker 2: this where I go, one night I went over there,
[27:48] Speaker 2: I pulled up over by Madison Square Garden before the
[27:50] Speaker 2: game just to get the vibes. You know, it was
[27:52] Speaker 2: a little too early, but it was cool. I'm going
[27:54] Speaker 2: to tell you what I did notice, though. This is
[27:56] Speaker 2: about the Knicks. It ain't just them. They showed the
[27:58] Speaker 2: clip last night or the shots in Toronto from Jurassic Park,
[28:04] Speaker 2: and that's where they got this square in Toronto where
[28:06] Speaker 2: they showed a game on TV. And then people come
[28:09] Speaker 2: and watch it. And they do the same thing outside
[28:12] Speaker 2: of Madison Square Garden, right?
[28:13] Speaker 1: It looks good on TV.
[28:14] Speaker 2: It's fan engagement. And you get to, like, I don't
[28:17] Speaker 2: know exactly where it is in Toronto. I feel like
[28:19] Speaker 2: it's a few blocks away from the arena. It's right
[28:22] Speaker 2: next to Madison Square Garden. And, buddy, you want to
[28:26] Speaker 2: talk about the uncoolest place in the world.
[28:31] Speaker 1: They showed that clip of the people in Toronto.
[28:33] Speaker 2: And, buddy, that was the dork fest of all dork
[28:37] Speaker 2: fests when I looked up there.
[28:38] Speaker 1: Like, you know what you see a lot of up there?
[28:41] Speaker 1: Jerseys over hoodies. With glasses.
[28:46] Speaker 5: You know what you don't see a lot of there?
[28:49] Speaker 5: Guys with their girlfriends.
[28:50] Speaker 1: That's what I was about to say. There's number two.
[28:52] Speaker 5: Yeah.
[28:53] Speaker 1: Right?
[28:54] Speaker 2: You don't see a lot of guys with their girlfriends,
[28:56] Speaker 2: and the reason they all have is, my girlfriend go
[28:59] Speaker 2: to another school.
[29:02] Speaker 1: Right, ladies, on that clip. And I was like, yeah,
[29:03] Speaker 1: this is not the coolest place I have ever seen.
[29:06] Speaker 2: And I saw them piling in and getting ready at
[29:08] Speaker 2: Madison Square Garden that time.
[29:10] Speaker 1: And I was like, yeah, I'm not saying these guys.
[29:12] Speaker 2: Aren't big fans, but they are not a representative cross-section
[29:16] Speaker 2: of the entirety of the fan base.
[29:18] Speaker 1: I wonder what it looks like in Toronto for the Maple.
[29:19] Speaker 2: Leafs, though, because Paisan, Tirico, was saying that they had
[29:25] Speaker 2: first started doing that for the Maple Leafs and I'm
[29:28] Speaker 2: curious what the crowd is that's there because I don't
[29:30] Speaker 2: feel like I don't feel like the dorks are piling
[29:32] Speaker 2: up for that in Toronto I just I don't know
[29:36] Speaker 2: I could be wrong I don't think they're doing this
[29:37] Speaker 2: I'm also very disappointed in the Raptors because I hope
[29:40] Speaker 2: that the Raptors would win that because then they would
[29:41] Speaker 2: go play against Detroit.
[29:42] Speaker 1: And I was like, if Detroit plays against Toronto, the
[29:45] Speaker 1: winner gets Windsor. like i thought that was really clever.
[29:50] Speaker 5: You know what i'm saying that is a limited range
[29:53] Speaker 5: joke that is very funny yeah it is.
[29:55] Speaker 2: That's what i'm right right right right like anybody that
[29:57] Speaker 2: knows what i'm talking about the winner gets windsor you
[30:00] Speaker 2: know what i'm saying like windsor windsor windsor kind of
[30:02] Speaker 2: owls kind of there's you know what i'm saying get
[30:05] Speaker 2: the troops up at the border you know what i'm
[30:07] Speaker 2: saying and get.
[30:07] Speaker 1: Out there see they figure it out they figure it
[30:09] Speaker 1: out anyway next bit the next better win the east.

[31:58] Speaker 2: the house. They don't fall out and they don't get uncomfortable.

[32:28] Speaker 1: social media feeds.
[32:29] Speaker 5: We got you.
[32:30] Speaker 1: Now, if you haven't heard.
[32:33] Speaker 5: All right, Bo, if you haven't heard, you went viral
[32:35] Speaker 5: on the Internet over the weekend for your appearance on
[32:39] Speaker 5: Young Man III, a conversation about The Wire versus The Sopranos.
[32:43] Speaker 5: Would you like to elaborate and describe what happened?
[32:48] Speaker 2: Man, I'm on there. Mind of my own business. It's me,
[32:51] Speaker 2: it's Adam. It's young Trey Murphy III, though I will note.
[32:55] Speaker 2: You could be Murphy III, or you could be Trey.
[32:58] Speaker 2: There's no need to be both.
[32:59] Speaker 5: You're saying it's redundant and repetitive?
[33:01] Speaker 1: Yeah, no need to be both.
[33:02] Speaker 2: What's so funny, though, is I saw Trey at a
[33:04] Speaker 2: hotel lobby in Houston last year, and people thought I
[33:08] Speaker 2: was his dad. And he told me that, and I
[33:09] Speaker 2: thought he was just trying to unk me, because he
[33:11] Speaker 2: liked to try to unk me. But no, I kind
[33:13] Speaker 2: of look like his dad. Like, he showed me a picture.
[33:15] Speaker 2: I was like, oh, I see what you're talking about.
[33:16] Speaker 2: But I am also old enough to be his dad.
[33:20] Speaker 2: It's a lot going on at one time. Anyway, I
[33:23] Speaker 2: don't know how or why this came up. But something
[33:29] Speaker 2: came up about The Sopranos and The Wire. And I
[33:31] Speaker 2: was in the process of making an analogy that right
[33:34] Speaker 2: now I don't even remember what I was going to say.
[33:36] Speaker 2: But I was going to say that The Sopranos is
[33:39] Speaker 2: to The Wire as... And then he told me that
[33:43] Speaker 2: The Wire's characters were all cartoons and did not have
[33:48] Speaker 2: any depth to them. And I... lost my mind. Actually,
[33:55] Speaker 2: I feel like I did not lose my mind. I
[33:57] Speaker 2: was in the process of losing my mind. And he's like, well,
[34:01] Speaker 2: what nuance does Omar have? And now I'm at the
[34:05] Speaker 2: point where I don't even have anything else to say.
[34:09] Speaker 1: Where are we?
[34:10] Speaker 2: But I cooked up a nice professional answer on that one, right?
[34:15] Speaker 2: And I felt like people received me as trying to
[34:17] Speaker 2: say the Sopranos characters don't have depth and nuance.
[34:21] Speaker 1: And that wasn't what I was saying right then.
[34:23] Speaker 2: What I was saying or trying to make the point was,
[34:26] Speaker 2: even if you think the Sopranos characters or the Wires
[34:29] Speaker 2: characters lack depth, I don't understand your argument that the
[34:34] Speaker 2: Sopranos characters somehow have more depth.
[34:38] Speaker 1: Okay?
[34:38] Speaker 2: Because this is the thing about the Sopranos. And I
[34:40] Speaker 2: watched it, honestly, I just watched it for the first
[34:42] Speaker 2: time over Christmas. Like, I did a watch of the
[34:44] Speaker 2: whole thing. The Sopranos got worse as the Sopranos forgot
[34:49] Speaker 2: what the Sopranos really was.
[34:52] Speaker 1: A comedy.
[34:54] Speaker 2: As it got farther from comedy, it got less and
[34:57] Speaker 2: less interesting. Those first couple seasons are flat-out comedy. It
[35:00] Speaker 2: was the second episode where they got the woman from
[35:03] Speaker 2: Trinidad watching Tony's mom, and Tony comes up.
[35:05] Speaker 1: And says, hey, just letting you know, while you're in
[35:07] Speaker 1: the house, no ganja. what are we doing, right?
[35:14] Speaker 2: Like, Tony Soprano pulling up on people at their jobs,
[35:17] Speaker 2: not knowing that they were going to see him and
[35:18] Speaker 2: beating them up.
[35:19] Speaker 1: Like, all that stuff is hysterical. What's it stop being comedy?
[35:23] Speaker 1: Not so much.
[35:24] Speaker 2: But I could not understand how one would not see
[35:26] Speaker 2: the depth in characters of The Wire, but be like,
[35:29] Speaker 2: but The Sopranos, that's, now we're in, no, no, I
[35:32] Speaker 2: didn't think you could do both those things.
[35:34] Speaker 1: Ryan, I don't know the last time we did.
[35:35] Speaker 2: Anything on this show that got that level of engagement.
[35:38] Speaker 2: People really, really got charged up about this. In part,
[35:40] Speaker 2: because I don't think My man Adam understood what people
[35:44] Speaker 2: were going to assume about him.
[35:45] Speaker 4: Correct.
[35:46] Speaker 5: From saying that. The stumble into the accidental race war.
[35:52] Speaker 2: Yeah, and by the way, it seemed like a very
[35:55] Speaker 2: obvious thing to me.
[35:56] Speaker 4: Yes.
[35:57] Speaker 2: And I know it's a very obvious, it seemed obvious
[35:59] Speaker 2: to me because I.
[36:01] Speaker 1: In the moment, was like... What you trying to say?
[36:04] Speaker 1: I didn't say that. Cause I, you know, I ain't
[36:06] Speaker 1: really no cat or whatever, but I was like, Oh no.
[36:09] Speaker 2: I don't like, I think that Adam Friedland got home
[36:13] Speaker 2: and was like, huh?
[36:15] Speaker 1: I don't know what he did after he had such
[36:17] Speaker 1: the realization.
[36:18] Speaker 2: But I do think that he realized that, um, I
[36:24] Speaker 2: don't know if he had ever been invited to the cookout,
[36:28] Speaker 2: but there are going to be a few, like he
[36:29] Speaker 2: won't be going to one in Baltimore. No, no, no.
[36:35] Speaker 2: Not without a serious letter of credit.
[36:39] Speaker 5: All right. Since we last recorded, still in the league,
[36:44] Speaker 5: All-Star has retired. I'm talking about, of course, Ask Jeeves.
[36:49] Speaker 5: Nearly made it to 30 years. Launched in June of 1996,
[36:53] Speaker 5: ended May 1st of 2026. Bo, what's your biggest memory
[36:59] Speaker 5: of Ask Jeeves?
[37:00] Speaker 1: My biggest memory of Ask Jeeves is me and my
[37:02] Speaker 1: man Che. We used to ask Jeeves the same question.
[37:05] Speaker 1: We asked Jeeves the same question that we ask just
[37:08] Speaker 1: about every day.
[37:09] Speaker 2: And Jeeves ain't never had the answer. And we knew
[37:12] Speaker 2: that if Jeeves ain't have the answer to that existential question,
[37:15] Speaker 2: that question that always matters. And I know some of
[37:18] Speaker 2: y'all out here are like, well, what question are you
[37:19] Speaker 2: talking about? And the answer to that question, answers that
[37:22] Speaker 2: always work well for that question.
[37:24] Speaker 1: Atlanta. I was just in Rio. Rio was an answer.
[37:30] Speaker 1: to the question. You know what I mean?
[37:31] Speaker 2: Some people like Miami. Houston don't get enough credit. New
[37:34] Speaker 2: York don't either. But Jeeves never knew where. No matter
[37:38] Speaker 2: how many times I asked, Jeeves never knew where. And
[37:43] Speaker 2: that's when I knew it wasn't long for Jeeves. I'm
[37:45] Speaker 2: actually surprised that Jeeves made it this long. That's what
[37:49] Speaker 2: we always want to know. And Jeeves ain't never have
[37:53] Speaker 2: no idea. So, shout out to Jeeves for hanging on
[37:57] Speaker 2: as long as they did, but you know, You should
[38:00] Speaker 2: have known better.
[38:01] Speaker 1: Like, I bet Chad GPT got the answer. In fact,
[38:04] Speaker 1: let me check right now. Let me see if Chad
[38:07] Speaker 1: GPT can answer this question.
[38:11] Speaker 5: The question.
[38:12] Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Enter.
[38:17] Speaker 2: Idiot.
[38:26] Speaker 1: It may not be the right answer, but at least
[38:28] Speaker 1: it tried. And I felt, and I felt like Jeeves
[38:31] Speaker 1: never did.
[38:33] Speaker 5: All right. And finally, uh, Rick Ross and French Montana
[38:36] Speaker 5: will be battling in a versus on Thursday. Uh, Bo,
[38:40] Speaker 5: you have previously said versus are dead. Do you still
[38:43] Speaker 5: have the same opinion?
[38:46] Speaker 2: Say what you just said to me again, and then
[38:48] Speaker 2: ask me that question again.
[38:49] Speaker 5: Uh, Rick Ross in French Montana, squaring off in a
[38:54] Speaker 5: versus on Thursday. His verse is dead still.
[38:59] Speaker 2: French Montana in a versus is an indictment of a
[39:09] Speaker 2: whole generation. Because like, what, 20 French.
[39:17] Speaker 1: You guys enjoy that, man. If that's what y'all want
[39:19] Speaker 1: to do, man, y'all go ahead. No, no, no. Y'all
[39:21] Speaker 1: have fun. Y'all go ahead. If that's that's what you
[39:23] Speaker 1: feel I will not be watching.
[39:28] Speaker 5: All right Bo a lot of good voicemails here's our first.
[39:37] Speaker 3: This question is for uh Joelle Anderson uh what's going
[39:42] Speaker 3: on Bomani Jones podcast family we talked the other day
[39:46] Speaker 3: about having nicknames like if you made the If you
[39:49] Speaker 3: made the name Wi-Fi, you just go by and call
[39:52] Speaker 3: me Wi-Fi. So we call Joel Anderson something like quarter
[39:59] Speaker 3: fast for being the fastest fourth grader in America. And
[40:04] Speaker 3: I would like to also ask.
[40:06] Speaker 6: Could he currently be a fourth grader in a race?
[40:10] Speaker 5: All right. Peace and love.
[40:18] Speaker 1: I can't wait till Joel hears this.
[40:20] Speaker 5: I want to be clear. They asked us.
[40:25] Speaker 2: Joel is about to start getting into playing shape for
[40:30] Speaker 2: his race against Billy.
[40:31] Speaker 1: Because this is going to happen.
[40:32] Speaker 5: So this is really happening.
[40:33] Speaker 1: This is going to happen. Joel is also currently in
[40:36] Speaker 1: Los Angeles.
[40:38] Speaker 2: And the last I checked, they had taken Joel's phone
[40:41] Speaker 2: and was sending tweets from it.
[40:44] Speaker 5: Which is a very 2014 thing to do, but I
[40:46] Speaker 5: still found to be very funny.
[40:48] Speaker 2: I asked Van if he is simply going to antagonize
[40:51] Speaker 2: Joel all week, and in all caps, he replied, yes.
[40:59] Speaker 2: I love that currently Joel is providing enough content for
[41:05] Speaker 2: two podcasts, only.
[41:07] Speaker 1: One of which he is the host, just by being himself. Like,
[41:10] Speaker 1: this is one of the great developments of 2026.
[41:13] Speaker 2: The building, the star turn The year of Joel. The
[41:18] Speaker 2: year of Joel, all by leaning in on his inner hater.
[41:23] Speaker 2: The inner hater that he swears does not exist and
[41:27] Speaker 2: that was only invented by me and Van Lathan.
[41:32] Speaker 1: But look at the success that this is turning into. Also,
[41:35] Speaker 1: did you see me send you the answers from Chad GPT?
[41:42] Speaker 5: I sure did.
[41:43] Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah.
[41:44] Speaker 1: See what I mean?
[41:45] Speaker 5: Not incorrect.
[41:46] Speaker 1: Told you. Jeeves never stood a chance.
[41:50] Speaker 5: It might be more of a me answer than a
[41:51] Speaker 5: you answer, but still not incorrect.
[41:53] Speaker 1: Never stood a chance. Never stood a chance.
[41:56] Speaker 4: All right.
[41:56] Speaker 5: Here's our next one.
[41:58] Speaker 3: Hey, Bo.
[41:59] Speaker 6: Thoroughly enjoyed your Time Machine Tuesday recap of the lead
[42:04] Speaker 6: up to the 2016 Warriors. And my question is in
[42:09] Speaker 6: that light of between the 16 Warriors and the 2007 patch,
[42:14] Speaker 6: Which team's legacy is benefited more if they actually win
[42:19] Speaker 6: the title that year? Thanks again for everything that you do.
[42:24] Speaker 1: Oh, I think the answer there is obviously the 2007 Patriots.
[42:27] Speaker 1: And the reason I say that is it's easy to forget.
[42:31] Speaker 2: They went nine years between titles. They won a title
[42:36] Speaker 2: in 04 and they won one in 14. They did
[42:41] Speaker 2: not win a title in between.
[42:44] Speaker 1: Um, and.
[42:47] Speaker 2: I would say even if they go 73 and nine
[42:51] Speaker 2: and they win a championship, we have questions about whether
[42:53] Speaker 2: that's the greatest team we've ever seen.
[42:57] Speaker 1: I don't think there are any questions.
[42:59] Speaker 2: If the 2007 Patriots win with Tom Brady throwing 50
[43:02] Speaker 2: touchdown passes and Randy Moss.
[43:04] Speaker 1: Catching like 23 or 24 of them.
[43:07] Speaker 2: I think we look at that as the greatest team
[43:09] Speaker 2: of all time. A 16-game undefeated season. Right? Like, though,
[43:16] Speaker 2: it was a much different league and a much more
[43:18] Speaker 2: difficult league than the one that the Dolphins won in
[43:20] Speaker 2: in 72.
[43:21] Speaker 1: No, no, no, no, no. The Patriots win that one.
[43:22] Speaker 1: I think we look at them much different.
[43:25] Speaker 5: All right, here's our last one.
[43:27] Speaker 4: Hey, Bomani. Listening to you talk to Vinny Goodwill about
[43:31] Speaker 4: the Knicks and about their fans specifically. I'm a 60-year-old
[43:36] Speaker 4: New Yorker. I've been here my whole life. But I'll
[43:40] Speaker 4: tell you about Knicks fans, because they think they root
[43:43] Speaker 4: for the Yankees, but they're really just the Mets. They're
[43:47] Speaker 4: good every so often, but you've got to have a
[43:49] Speaker 4: lot of hope. Keep up the good work.
[43:54] Speaker 1: I will say this again about the Knicks.
[43:58] Speaker 2: When the Rangers won the Stanley Cup in 1994. Remember,
[44:01] Speaker 2: they had a game seven against the Devils in the,
[44:05] Speaker 2: I guess it's now called the Eastern Conference Finals, but
[44:07] Speaker 2: I think it was the Campbell Conference Finals back then.
[44:11] Speaker 2: But they had to print up two different versions of
[44:14] Speaker 2: the cover because there was no telling, you know, who's
[44:16] Speaker 2: going to win it or whatever. And the one if
[44:18] Speaker 2: the Devils had won just said 1940 on the cover
[44:20] Speaker 2: because 1940 had been the last time that the Rangers
[44:26] Speaker 2: had won a Stanley Cup. It had been 54 years
[44:30] Speaker 2: since they had won a Stanley Cup. It has been
[44:34] Speaker 2: 53 years since the Knicks have won. I don't think
[44:38] Speaker 2: that it's Knicks fans that act like this so much, though.
[44:41] Speaker 2: I think very much in the marketing of this, the
[44:43] Speaker 2: idea that the Knicks are one of the league's great franchises,
[44:47] Speaker 2: like all-time great historic franchises.
[44:51] Speaker 1: This league has two historic franchises. It is the Lakers
[44:54] Speaker 1: and the Celtics. That's it.
[44:56] Speaker 2: The Celtics were winning all those rings. And before that,
[44:58] Speaker 2: the Lakers were winning a gang of those rings. They
[45:01] Speaker 2: had George Mikan, right?
[45:03] Speaker 1: Like that's what it was turning into. The Knicks have
[45:06] Speaker 1: won two championships. That's it. I feel like Knicks fans
[45:12] Speaker 1: know that. And yeah, you're right. That is a little
[45:14] Speaker 1: bit more like the Mets. But my hot take is
[45:17] Speaker 1: all the New York sports teams are more like the Mets.
[45:21] Speaker 1: than the Yankees.
[45:22] Speaker 2: The Giants managed to pull off those 07 and 2011 titles, right?
[45:28] Speaker 1: That kind of beef up the total. But otherwise, let's
[45:33] Speaker 1: look this up. New York Giants.
[45:35] Speaker 2: I'm going to go to their wiki page and we'll
[45:37] Speaker 2: look at them in terms of like being a championship situation.
[45:42] Speaker 1: Yeah, Ryan. They ain't really... They won championship.
[45:48] Speaker 2: Look, 1927... 1934, 1938, 1956.
[45:56] Speaker 1: When the league had eight teams. And two of them,
[46:01] Speaker 1: Washington and Pittsburgh.
[46:03] Speaker 5: With those years, I thought you think you're talking about
[46:05] Speaker 5: the baseball giants.
[46:07] Speaker 1: Yeah, right, right. Now that's a team, right? That's a
[46:10] Speaker 1: team with some heritage. The Jets are the Jets. The
[46:14] Speaker 1: Rangers are the Rangers. The Islanders post 1980, whatever. They're
[46:18] Speaker 1: what they are.
[46:20] Speaker 2: Right?
[46:21] Speaker 1: No, no, no. Everybody in New York is the Mets. Basically.
[46:25] Speaker 1: Except the Yankees.
[46:28] Speaker 5: Who have been the Mets for 30 years.
[46:31] Speaker 1: They've been the Mets for more like 15.
[46:35] Speaker 2: Fair enough.
[46:37] Speaker 5: I mean, I know what your IMG markation is and
[46:39] Speaker 5: that makes sense.
[46:40] Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, they won a World Series in 09.
[46:41] Speaker 2: Right.
[46:42] Speaker 1: They were consistently going there.
[46:44] Speaker 4: Right?
[46:44] Speaker 1: And since then, it's been Metsy.
[46:46] Speaker 4: Fair.
[46:47] Speaker 1: Been Metsy.
[46:49] Speaker 2: But hey, Ladies and gentlemen, let me tell you something
