Bomani Jones breaks down a wild stretch of playoff basketball, starting with why Kevin Durant keeps catching blame in Houston and what the Rockets’ mess says about the team around him. He also gets into Nikola Jokic, the Nuggets getting pushed around by Minnesota, and the kind of James Harden playoff history that somehow never stops following him. Later, he discusses the impending showdown between the Spurs and the Thunder and why it's both the best and worst thing for the NBA. After that, Bomani hits on the Rams’ surprising Ty Simpson pick and what it says about Sean McVay, the Klay Thompson/Megan Thee Stallion breakup discourse, the strange fallout from the White House Correspondents’ Dinner shooting, and a voicemail segment that turns into a great conversation about Nate Dogg, branding, and why being interesting still matters. [0:01] Speaker 1: Wave.
[0:09] Speaker 2: Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the right time. A wave original.
[0:14] Speaker 2: My name is Beaumont Jones. Thanks for listening wherever you
[0:16] Speaker 2: get your podcast. Thanks for watching us on YouTube. Subscribe, like,
[0:20] Speaker 2: rate us, review us, give us five stars. You only
[0:22] Speaker 2: give us four stars. I'm inclined to believe you are
[0:25] Speaker 2: a hater. We're going to talk about the collision course
[0:28] Speaker 2: situation that we got going in the NBA playoffs a
[0:31] Speaker 2: little bit later. But first, we're going to start off
[0:34] Speaker 2: in our terribly negative society by being incredibly negative about
[0:39] Speaker 2: two of the top maybe 25 players in the history
[0:43] Speaker 2: of the NBA. Now, yes. This is the thing about
[0:47] Speaker 2: the first round of the playoffs, right? It's very difficult
[0:51] Speaker 2: to truly lead with what excites you in the first
[0:55] Speaker 2: round of the playoffs because what excites you is either A,
[0:59] Speaker 2: something that you kind of knew was going to happen,
[1:03] Speaker 2: or B, someone exceeding expectations or some team exceeding expectations,
[1:10] Speaker 2: which requires almost by definition that somebody on the other
[1:15] Speaker 2: side is coming up short on expectations right that's that's
[1:20] Speaker 2: that's that's basically how this goes that's what we've got
[1:24] Speaker 2: however we wound up with two somewhat parallel situations which
[1:28] Speaker 2: is what's going on with the Rockets and what is
[1:31] Speaker 2: going on with Denver I think they are somewhat similar
[1:36] Speaker 2: though there are some you know some notable differences between
[1:40] Speaker 2: the two circumstances but I want to start with what's
[1:45] Speaker 2: happened with the Rockets because it is... Y'all are always
[1:52] Speaker 2: ready to bring it to Kevin Durant. I think that's
[1:55] Speaker 2: the conclusion that I've reached about this is that it
[1:57] Speaker 2: is very interesting that he has.
[2:01] Speaker 2: His career has gotten him to a place where... I
[2:08] Speaker 2: would not say that he is a player that people hate.
[2:13] Speaker 2: outside of Oklahoma City. I just wouldn't say it. I
[2:15] Speaker 2: don't think that he engenders that. I think he engenders
[2:20] Speaker 2: a measure of confusion from people around him because he confuses.
[2:27] Speaker 2: I understand that you're not supposed to answer your question
[2:33] Speaker 2: with the question in that way, but he confuses us.
[2:37] Speaker 3: I get that.
[2:38] Speaker 2: But What's happened here in Houston, right? I guess this
[2:41] Speaker 2: is the question. Did the, did the antics of get
[2:44] Speaker 2: off Mike Dickerson really get Durant to like a point
[2:47] Speaker 2: of no return?
[2:49] Speaker 3: It's starting to seem that way. And, and it's tough
[2:52] Speaker 3: because he has the devastating injury off the court three
[2:57] Speaker 3: days before game one, right? Where reportedly he knocks knees
[2:59] Speaker 3: with the player.
[3:00] Speaker 1: Right.
[3:01] Speaker 3: And now, and so now he's not, he doesn't play
[3:03] Speaker 3: game one game two. He's out there, but he's, a
[3:06] Speaker 3: shell of himself.
[3:07] Speaker 2: He couldn't move.
[3:08] Speaker 3: Couldn't move. Gets exploited in the second half of that game.
[3:12] Speaker 3: And then he doesn't play game three and game four.
[3:14] Speaker 3: And it kind of leads into every, if you have
[3:19] Speaker 3: questions about Kevin Durant, you can find the answers you're
[3:21] Speaker 3: looking for pretty easily.
[3:23] Speaker 2: I mean, I just want you to think about this
[3:24] Speaker 2: for a second. Anthony Edwards, who we'll talk about a
[3:27] Speaker 2: little bit later. Anthony Edwards was diagnosed with a bone
[3:31] Speaker 2: bruise after what happened to him in game four. of Nuggets, Timbers, Wolves.
[3:37] Speaker 2: It looked like he had torn his ACL. Like that
[3:40] Speaker 2: was the type of reaction that I had from seeing
[3:42] Speaker 2: that was like, damn, he's going to be out. He
[3:44] Speaker 2: did not have any ligament damage, but he is going
[3:47] Speaker 2: to be out for weeks in the playoffs. That is
[3:50] Speaker 2: the same injury that Kevin Durant suffered before game one.
[3:54] Speaker 2: He played game two. And since he wasn't on the
[3:58] Speaker 2: bench for game three, people were loudly accusing him of quitting.
[4:04] Speaker 2: When he played with a bone bruise in game two,
[4:08] Speaker 2: if he did quit in game three, it was after
[4:12] Speaker 2: playing through it in game two, which kind of would
[4:16] Speaker 2: mean that game three could not be quitting. The argument
[4:19] Speaker 2: was it was because he was not sitting on the
[4:22] Speaker 2: bench supporting his teammates. And you sound like an old
[4:25] Speaker 2: white man right now.
[4:27] Speaker 4: Right.
[4:27] Speaker 2: No matter who you are, think about who you sound
[4:30] Speaker 2: like at that moment with that one. No, it's just
[4:34] Speaker 2: that it's reached a point where people are so down
[4:38] Speaker 2: on him that we have come to the assumption of
[4:42] Speaker 2: worst case scenario. Everything get off by Dickerson said about
[4:45] Speaker 2: this team appears to be true.
[4:47] Speaker 1: Right.
[4:48] Speaker 2: Like in the grand scheme, this team just isn't that good.
[4:52] Speaker 2: That coach just isn't that good. That meltdown that they
[4:57] Speaker 2: had at the end of game three was a fireable
[5:01] Speaker 2: offense for the coach. There was no way they were
[5:04] Speaker 2: up six with 30 seconds left to LeBron. And now
[5:09] Speaker 2: LeBron is some dudes. That's who this is, right? LeBron
[5:14] Speaker 2: and some dudes. Like, let me tell you something. They
[5:18] Speaker 2: should technically still be in this series.
[5:21] Speaker 3: I mean, they were favored in all four games going in,
[5:24] Speaker 3: three of those without Kevin Durant.
[5:26] Speaker 5: Right.
[5:26] Speaker 2: And look, here's the thing. Say what you want about this.
[5:30] Speaker 2: The order of the games matters, right, in terms of succession.
[5:33] Speaker 2: But it's 3-1. And they have the ostensible home court advantage.
[5:39] Speaker 2: In theory. They should be able to come out here. Well,
[5:43] Speaker 2: they don't have home court advantage.
[5:44] Speaker 3: That's right.
[5:44] Speaker 2: They played the first two in L.A. But they should
[5:46] Speaker 2: be able to come out here and win game five.
[5:47] Speaker 2: I mean, they just won this last game by a
[5:49] Speaker 2: pretty big number. I think that it was a certain
[5:52] Speaker 2: measure of predictability to them winning this game. But it's
[5:55] Speaker 2: not over. This series is not over for them. It
[6:01] Speaker 2: feels unlikely. But it doesn't feel over. You're down Kevin Durant.
[6:05] Speaker 2: They're down Luka Doncic and Austin Reeves. They have played
[6:09] Speaker 2: over their heads up until this point. If your coach
[6:12] Speaker 2: is worth half a damn, you guys should maybe have
[6:15] Speaker 2: a chance. And maybe, look, maybe Ime telling them they
[6:17] Speaker 2: needed to grow up. Maybe that had some sort of
[6:19] Speaker 2: effect after game three, right? Now, Ime ignoring the fact
[6:23] Speaker 2: that part of his job is helping them to grow up. Hey, hey, hey, hey, hey.
[6:27] Speaker 2: That's a little bit weird here. Okay there. But again, I'm,
[6:31] Speaker 2: The last, I guess we'll call it seven years of
[6:34] Speaker 2: Kevin Durant's career. And I'm saying seven years on the
[6:38] Speaker 2: calendar right now, which allows me to say that in
[6:40] Speaker 2: that discussion, let us not forget, in 2019, that was
[6:44] Speaker 2: the year that in the playoffs, he had the I'm
[6:48] Speaker 2: Kevin Durant press availability sound, all-time great sound. And people
[6:53] Speaker 2: like Patrick Beverly was shutting him down. And he just
[6:57] Speaker 2: went super saiyan on them. It was unreal how good
[7:01] Speaker 2: he was until the calf strain. And then he comes
[7:04] Speaker 2: back from the calf strain and he tears his Achilles.
[7:08] Speaker 2: He made the mistake of hitching his wagon to Kyrie Irving.
[7:10] Speaker 2: But think about this. If there is no pandemic, how
[7:13] Speaker 2: much differently do we look at him? Do we look
[7:15] Speaker 2: at that whole experiment? Do we look at James Harden, right?
[7:18] Speaker 2: Like all those guys may come out to be winners,
[7:20] Speaker 2: except there was a pandemic. and there was a vaccine requirement,
[7:24] Speaker 2: and it was a dude who was acting crazy. And
[7:28] Speaker 2: all that tore down that whole situation. He goes to Phoenix.
[7:33] Speaker 2: Whatever did or didn't work in Phoenix is not Kevin
[7:35] Speaker 2: Durant's fault. He winds up in Houston. I think the
[7:40] Speaker 2: mistake they made in Houston is everybody's saying he's not
[7:43] Speaker 2: the franchise player. Get off my Dickerson, you'll notice, consistently
[7:46] Speaker 2: referred to Shingun as the franchise player. I can't tell
[7:49] Speaker 2: if Durant really didn't want to be the franchise player
[7:52] Speaker 2: or get off my Dickerson resents the idea that Shingun,
[7:57] Speaker 2: because Shingun is not a franchise player. You remember when
[7:59] Speaker 2: they were talking about trading him maybe for Giannis, they're like,
[8:02] Speaker 2: oh no, you'd have to give up Shingun. Oh my God,
[8:04] Speaker 2: we'll have to give up Shingun. Or Amin Thompson. You
[8:08] Speaker 2: remember last year when they were talking about, yeah, yeah,
[8:10] Speaker 2: but you can't give up Amin Thompson. The fuck you can't.
[8:13] Speaker 2: He can't shoot. What are we talking about here? People
[8:17] Speaker 2: were talking to me about Amin Thompson like he was
[8:20] Speaker 2: going to turn into shade.
[8:23] Speaker 1: Right?
[8:23] Speaker 2: Look, he's really athletic. He's really talented. He's really fun
[8:26] Speaker 2: to watch in person. He can't shoot. Oh, hold on, guys.
[8:32] Speaker 2: You can't give up Ahmed Thompson. That would be crazy.
[8:36] Speaker 2: I mean, you're trying to give up Ahmed Thompson for
[8:37] Speaker 2: one of the 30 greatest players of all time? Hey, hey, hey, hey, guys.
[8:40] Speaker 2: I don't know about this one.
[8:42] Speaker 3: Might be a little too rich for my blood.
[8:44] Speaker 2: Yeah, what are you talking about? Like, all those things
[8:46] Speaker 2: have to seem crazy right now to people, don't they?
[8:48] Speaker 1: Right.
[8:49] Speaker 2: Like, all those things that were said at that time
[8:51] Speaker 2: about why you can't give up these guys and get Giannis,
[8:53] Speaker 2: they have the same preposterous, and none of that has
[8:55] Speaker 2: to do with Kevin Durant. None of it at all
[8:58] Speaker 2: has to do with Kevin Durant. But the rest of
[9:01] Speaker 2: them cats got an answer for how sorry they been. Oh,
[9:04] Speaker 2: the other thing too, when they asked Ahmed Thompson where
[9:05] Speaker 2: Durant was coming from on his rehab and he didn't know.
[9:08] Speaker 2: And then that became a testament to Kevin Durant and
[9:11] Speaker 2: his relationship with the rest of the team. Hey man,
[9:13] Speaker 2: they busy over there. Like I do get the feeling
[9:16] Speaker 2: that these guys don't hang out, but it wasn't like,
[9:20] Speaker 2: it wasn't like McMiniman asked everybody and they were like, man,
[9:22] Speaker 2: we didn't see Kevin Durant since last week. No man,
[9:25] Speaker 2: they ain't know. How's his knee feel? I don't know,
[9:28] Speaker 2: ask him.
[9:30] Speaker 1: Right?
[9:30] Speaker 2: Like, we're all just looking for a reason to come.
[9:34] Speaker 2: It's the craziest thing. Look, Kevin Durant has given us
[9:37] Speaker 2: no reason to think that if he could play, he
[9:38] Speaker 2: would not play. In fact, that was the point that
[9:41] Speaker 2: people made sure to make around game one, is that
[9:43] Speaker 2: he has a rep for play. He played 78 games
[9:46] Speaker 2: this year. Right? I have no reason to think that
[9:51] Speaker 2: he quit, because the truth is, Get Off My Dickerson
[9:54] Speaker 2: has thought this team was no good from way back.
[9:58] Speaker 2: If Get Off My Dickerson and Kevin Durant agree that
[10:01] Speaker 2: this team was no good, then Kevin Durant wouldn't have
[10:03] Speaker 2: played 78 games. He'd have quit a long time ago, right?
[10:09] Speaker 2: So we all doubt on him and we all doubt
[10:12] Speaker 2: on Jokic, except that one makes a lot more sense.
[10:16] Speaker 2: a lot more sense. The Jokic career is going to
[10:19] Speaker 2: be interesting. I saw somebody make the point online that
[10:24] Speaker 2: Jokic will go down or perhaps will go down as
[10:29] Speaker 2: the only three-time MVP who has not won multiple NBA championships, right?
[10:37] Speaker 2: And so I can do this off the top of
[10:40] Speaker 2: my head, I believe. Fingers crossed. Oh, except for Moses Malone.
[10:46] Speaker 2: He's on that list. But the others are Bill Russell,
[10:51] Speaker 2: Will Chamberlain, Larry Bird, Magic Johnson, Michael Jordan, and LeBron James.
[11:02] Speaker 2: That feels like the list, okay? Kareem Abdul-Jabbar absolutely would
[11:08] Speaker 2: have gone down on this list. of three-time MVPs with
[11:12] Speaker 2: only one championship. If Magic Johnson, another guy on this list,
[11:18] Speaker 2: had not landed in his lap, okay? Like, that did happen.
[11:24] Speaker 2: Moses Malone, and this is where it gets interesting, Moses
[11:28] Speaker 2: Malone and Kareem, who would have been on that list
[11:30] Speaker 2: without Magic, have something very much so interesting in common
[11:32] Speaker 2: with Jokic, which is this is not a dynasty era,
[11:36] Speaker 2: nor were the 1970s. Okay, like you go look at it,
[11:42] Speaker 2: that run through the 1970s, you're not getting repeat champions.
[11:46] Speaker 2: It wasn't like somebody else was rattling off three championships
[11:49] Speaker 2: during that same run. That wasn't how it went. Malone
[11:54] Speaker 2: won MVP in 79, 81, a year where the Rockets
[11:57] Speaker 2: finished under 500. They got to the finals, but they
[12:01] Speaker 2: finished under 500 and Moses Malone still won MVP.
[12:06] Speaker 3: I didn't realize that that's nuts.
[12:07] Speaker 2: No, incorrect. I'm sorry. Malone won MVP in 82, I
[12:12] Speaker 2: want to say. But yeah, in 81, they went to
[12:15] Speaker 2: the finals after finishing under 500. That was the way
[12:18] Speaker 2: that that played. But you understand what I'm saying here.
[12:20] Speaker 2: And by the way, and then for Moses to get
[12:22] Speaker 2: that championship, he had to go play for the Sixers,
[12:27] Speaker 2: who in 81, Doc won the MVP, who had gone
[12:31] Speaker 2: to the NBA finals the year before. And two years
[12:33] Speaker 2: before that, that championship they won in 83 was their
[12:35] Speaker 2: third time to the finals in four years. Just saying,
[12:38] Speaker 2: it's interesting timing. But none of that changes the fact
[12:41] Speaker 2: that the Timberwolves have been giving it to them boys
[12:44] Speaker 2: and they give it to them every time they see them.
[12:47] Speaker 2: It feels like every game that I watch with Minnesota
[12:51] Speaker 2: and Denver starts off the same. Denver gets off to
[12:54] Speaker 2: a hot start. Looks like they're going to put Minnesota away.
[12:57] Speaker 2: The next thing you know, it's tied at halftime, right? Now,
[13:00] Speaker 2: what was different this time with game four is you're
[13:03] Speaker 2: getting toward halftime. It's what it is. Homie White Dante
[13:07] Speaker 2: is torn his Achilles. We think Anthony Edwards is blowing
[13:11] Speaker 2: out his knee. The Nuggets are up at halftime, as
[13:15] Speaker 2: I recall. Then Ryan, this is where it gets weird
[13:21] Speaker 2: for your boy. I don't know if y'all saw this.
[13:24] Speaker 2: I think we're going to talk about it a little later.
[13:26] Speaker 2: But they had it. They was acting like somebody shot
[13:29] Speaker 2: up the White House Correspondents Dinner. Yep. And so in
[13:34] Speaker 2: the middle of the game, They went to the press conference,
[13:37] Speaker 2: and they was like, hey, you can go watch the
[13:40] Speaker 2: rest of the game on ESPN if you would like.
[13:46] Speaker 2: And I'm like, I'm going to be a good American.
[13:49] Speaker 2: Let me find out what's going on. But then that
[13:52] Speaker 2: shit was taking too long, man, and they wasn't even
[13:54] Speaker 2: giving me none of the answers to the questions I
[13:57] Speaker 2: really wanted to get to the bottom of, right? Next
[14:01] Speaker 2: thing I know, the Nuggets are getting smoked. They are
[14:06] Speaker 2: running them out of the building at that point. And
[14:09] Speaker 2: the thing with the Nuggets has been historically, at least
[14:13] Speaker 2: during this Jokic era, they win the Jokic minutes. It's
[14:17] Speaker 2: just about whether or not they can hold it down otherwise.
[14:19] Speaker 2: They were getting destroyed in the Jokic minutes. By the way,
[14:23] Speaker 2: in this in a game where Aaron Gordon's out there
[14:26] Speaker 2: playing with a calf strain, which we all know, we
[14:28] Speaker 2: just talked about it with Duran a second ago. What
[14:31] Speaker 2: are you doing? Like, what is this? And they look
[14:34] Speaker 2: so completely discombobulated and like not ready for primetime in
[14:39] Speaker 2: this game that they absolutely have to win. And then
[14:41] Speaker 2: at the end of the game, Jaden McDaniels puts up
[14:44] Speaker 2: one of them late shots while the game is out
[14:47] Speaker 2: of hand and Jokic decides he's going to be the
[14:50] Speaker 2: one to go enforce the unwritten rules, right? On one level,
[14:54] Speaker 2: I recognize that I've had to learn this, whether it
[14:56] Speaker 2: be baseball or anything else. They got rules in that game.
[15:00] Speaker 2: They all know what the rules are. and McDaniels was
[15:03] Speaker 2: in violation of the rules that they have set. We
[15:06] Speaker 2: could think these rules are silly or whatever it is, right?
[15:08] Speaker 3: But they clearly don't.
[15:09] Speaker 2: They clearly don't. They have a way. Did you see
[15:11] Speaker 2: where they asked Mike Conley about it? Where if Mike
[15:13] Speaker 2: Conley said he wanted to put his hands on top
[15:15] Speaker 2: of his head after he realized he had thrown the
[15:16] Speaker 2: ball to Jaden McDaniels at that point, because McDaniels is
[15:18] Speaker 2: the one that hates them dudes the most.
[15:20] Speaker 3: No, but I did check. So even Conley knew.
[15:23] Speaker 2: Yeah, come on, man. They have a way that they
[15:28] Speaker 2: handle things over there, and that is a violation of
[15:30] Speaker 2: that norm. All right. And you can say, well, you
[15:33] Speaker 2: don't run up on somebody as stupid. Hey, their their world.
[15:37] Speaker 2: Somebody runs up on you. I remember the time I
[15:39] Speaker 2: saw PJ Tucker run up on somebody under those circumstances.
[15:42] Speaker 2: But you know what PJ Tucker is or more accurately
[15:44] Speaker 2: what PJ Tucker is not three time MVP. Right. Jokic
[15:50] Speaker 2: is not supposed to be the guy that goes and
[15:53] Speaker 2: gets in Buddy's face about that.
[15:54] Speaker 3: Right.
[15:55] Speaker 2: Somebody else's job is supposed to be to do that. Instead,
[16:00] Speaker 2: it was Jokic. And what happened? He got pumped. That's
[16:04] Speaker 2: what happened. Ran up on that dude. That dude grabbed
[16:07] Speaker 2: him by the shirt. You wasn't ready to do nothing.
[16:10] Speaker 2: And that dude knew that you wasn't ready to do nothing.
[16:13] Speaker 2: The reason you went down there is because you was
[16:15] Speaker 2: on your sore loser shit, which we have seen you
[16:18] Speaker 2: be on at various points in your career. And you
[16:21] Speaker 2: wound up in that place where everybody's looking at you
[16:25] Speaker 2: funny because Rudy Gobert. Rudy Gobert has been asking for
[16:31] Speaker 2: the ball to go at you. Rudy Gobert, by the way,
[16:36] Speaker 2: shot a three.
[16:38] Speaker 3: Yeah.
[16:40] Speaker 2: You want to talk about somebody who just can't make
[16:43] Speaker 2: peace with being who he is. You just can't be
[16:46] Speaker 2: a Hall of Famer, huh?
[16:48] Speaker 1: Right?
[16:48] Speaker 2: Like, you just can't be a Hall of Fame defensive player.
[16:50] Speaker 2: You just can't do that. Oh, okay. But you went
[16:53] Speaker 2: down there and that was embarrassing. Like, you guys are champions.
[16:57] Speaker 2: And I know that this is that year again where
[16:59] Speaker 2: the champion thing, this is just kind of going to
[17:01] Speaker 2: hop to hop, hop, right? And this Nuggets team has
[17:04] Speaker 2: this weird thing with what their window was because their
[17:06] Speaker 2: window truly opened when they traded for Aaron Gordon and
[17:08] Speaker 2: then right after Jamal Murray tore his ACL and they
[17:11] Speaker 2: lost two years of their window on the front end.
[17:13] Speaker 2: And then the third year when Murray comes back, they
[17:15] Speaker 2: win it. But now, like, it's over. They're getting handled
[17:19] Speaker 2: by Anthony Edwards and some guys. Or in the second half,
[17:23] Speaker 2: they got handled by the guys. Just Julius Randle and
[17:28] Speaker 2: Rudy Gobert. They are led by men whom we ridicule.
[17:33] Speaker 2: And they smoked them in the second half of that game.
[17:39] Speaker 2: Can't believe it. Can't believe it.
[17:40] Speaker 5: Right?
[17:41] Speaker 2: Also, coach. Think you guys have a coach problem. because
[17:45] Speaker 2: we've watched this team play for years. Guys don't just
[17:48] Speaker 2: turn soft, right? Like, how does that happen? Like, how
[17:52] Speaker 2: does this team suddenly look soft? It wasn't like Michael
[17:55] Speaker 2: Porter Jr. was the enforcer. Like, you guys turn soft.
[18:01] Speaker 2: That's what, it was so embarrassing. But here's the thing.
[18:08] Speaker 2: They should still win this series. They can still win
[18:13] Speaker 2: this series. You're going to have three games against the
[18:16] Speaker 2: Minnesota Timberwolves without Anthony Edwards. The next game is at
[18:20] Speaker 2: your place at altitude. My history of watching the NBA
[18:23] Speaker 2: indicates game five of this series should be a Nuggets
[18:26] Speaker 2: romp if they are anything, right? This is where the
[18:30] Speaker 2: champions get up. They are cornered. They have resolve and
[18:33] Speaker 2: they smoke them in this game. That's what this is
[18:37] Speaker 2: supposed to be when you have home court and you're
[18:39] Speaker 2: those guys. You're supposed to smoke them. This is supposed
[18:41] Speaker 2: to come down to what happens when you go back
[18:43] Speaker 2: to Minnesota in game six and all of this is
[18:46] Speaker 2: going to be on their shoulders and you have to
[18:49] Speaker 2: decide whether or not you're going to let Ayo Dosunmu
[18:54] Speaker 2: score 43 points. 43 points on you. What? Who? Are
[19:09] Speaker 2: you fucking serious? 43 points on you. Are you guys
[19:15] Speaker 2: really going to let that happen? Because the Minnesota Temple
[19:19] Speaker 2: Wolves are in a circumstance where in order for them
[19:22] Speaker 2: to win, they're going to need Ayo Dosunmu to get
[19:28] Speaker 2: them there. That's what's going to be required. He's going
[19:32] Speaker 2: to have to not just take the Anthony Edwards role,
[19:35] Speaker 2: play better than one would expect Anthony Edwards to play
[19:38] Speaker 2: in the Anthony Edwards role. And yeah, I would fire
[19:42] Speaker 2: the coach if my one-time NBA champions with the best
[19:46] Speaker 2: player in the NBA loses this one. And I would
[19:49] Speaker 2: look at that best player in the NBA and be like,
[19:52] Speaker 2: so what you got? Because this is on you, right?
[19:57] Speaker 2: We have seen a lot of Denver Nuggets basketball over
[19:58] Speaker 2: the years where we have been able to safely say, well,
[20:00] Speaker 2: it just wasn't enough around him, especially in those years
[20:03] Speaker 2: when Murray was down, right? Nah, nah, nah, nah, nah, nah, nah, buddy.
[20:06] Speaker 2: That's not what's going on here. What's going on here
[20:08] Speaker 2: is that Nikola Jokic has been outplayed in long stretches
[20:14] Speaker 2: by the most ridiculed future Hall of Famer in the
[20:19] Speaker 2: history of basketball. In the words of the great Billy
[20:24] Speaker 2: from Purple Rain, you better kick ass or else. Speaking
[20:34] Speaker 2: of kicking ass, Ryan, I feel like we need to
[20:36] Speaker 2: give kind of a perfunctory shout out to the people
[20:40] Speaker 2: in series that we don't care about. That's right. I'm
[20:42] Speaker 2: talking about you, Cleveland and Toronto.
[20:45] Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean... I mean, it's happening.
[20:48] Speaker 2: It's an even series. That was a pretty good game.
[20:50] Speaker 3: Pretty good game at the end.
[20:51] Speaker 2: Yeah, I watched that. I enjoyed it.
[20:53] Speaker 3: Pretty good game at the end. We got a vintage
[20:55] Speaker 3: playoff James Harden, and that is not a compliment.
[20:58] Speaker 2: Yeah, but hey, hey, maybe he got it out the
[21:00] Speaker 2: way early.
[21:02] Speaker 3: Maybe.
[21:02] Speaker 2: Maybe, boy.
[21:04] Speaker 3: Or history tell us the next two games will be worse.
[21:06] Speaker 2: Shout out to my buddy Nick. Ain't nobody keeping count
[21:09] Speaker 2: of anybody else's shortcomings and miseries that Nick Wright is
[21:13] Speaker 2: on James Harden. He was like, that is the 44th.
[21:15] Speaker 2: And this is a crazy stat. Nobody's better at keeping
[21:18] Speaker 2: these to dick. This is James Harden's 44th playoff game
[21:23] Speaker 2: where he had as many, if not more, turnovers than
[21:27] Speaker 2: field goals made.
[21:30] Speaker 3: Listen to this. So he came back with another one.
[21:33] Speaker 3: James Harden playoff games with five or less field goals, 77,
[21:37] Speaker 3: four or less field goals, 55, three or less field goals, 35.
[21:42] Speaker 3: two or less field goals, 22.
[21:44] Speaker 2: Those are crazy numbers, man. Those are insane numbers to
[21:52] Speaker 2: throw out here. But yeah, that series will be over
[21:55] Speaker 2: and they'll play against the winner of Detroit and Orlando.
[22:01] Speaker 2: Another series that one might argue deserves a little bit
[22:04] Speaker 2: more of my attention, but eh.
[22:06] Speaker 3: Do they have Amazon Prime 2? Because it would be
[22:09] Speaker 3: on it.
[22:11] Speaker 5: Nba nba nba prime tv yeah right like they they
[22:17] Speaker 5: they need to come up with a lower tier so
[22:19] Speaker 5: that we know who truly is.
[22:21] Speaker 2: In the um the nba tv slot yeah because look
[22:25] Speaker 2: the truth is i did not think look i did
[22:27] Speaker 2: not realize that amazon prime was going to have whole
[22:31] Speaker 2: nights of playoff games yeah i do think yeah i
[22:35] Speaker 2: do think that's a big shift for the average viewer
[22:37] Speaker 2: yes i think that is like oh Now, also, that's
[22:41] Speaker 2: always wild to me because everybody I know has Amazon Prime.
[22:46] Speaker 3: Yes.
[22:47] Speaker 2: But clearly not everybody has Amazon Prime.
[22:50] Speaker 3: I think people do not understand. I think more people
[22:53] Speaker 3: have Amazon Prime, like the service.
[22:55] Speaker 2: They don't know that.
[22:56] Speaker 3: But didn't have Netflix, but do not realize Amazon Prime
[22:59] Speaker 3: is where you watch the games.
[23:00] Speaker 2: I actually have a friend who worked for them for
[23:03] Speaker 2: a little while and said that at that time, that
[23:05] Speaker 2: was their biggest problem, is that people simply did not
[23:08] Speaker 2: know that they actually had this. That's a big part
[23:13] Speaker 2: of this for Amazon. You think about this. I don't
[23:16] Speaker 2: know anybody that has Amazon Prime Video as a standalone. Right.
[23:20] Speaker 1: You know?
[23:21] Speaker 2: Like, nah, nah, nah. You can keep all that free shipping.
[23:24] Speaker 2: I just want to watch these movies.
[23:26] Speaker 1: Yeah.
[23:26] Speaker 2: Right? I don't even know if that's an option. Right?
[23:30] Speaker 3: Neither do I.
[23:31] Speaker 2: But anyway, Detroit and Orlando, that's where they at. And
[23:35] Speaker 2: the Detroit people seem very, very nervous that Wendell Carter Jr. is...
[23:40] Speaker 2: outplaying Jalen Durant.
[23:43] Speaker 3: I would be nervous to talk about a team that
[23:44] Speaker 3: seems like they all didn't like each other now is,
[23:46] Speaker 3: you know, playing in a playoff, playing well in a
[23:48] Speaker 3: playoff series in Orlando.
[23:50] Speaker 5: Right.
[23:50] Speaker 2: Also, I want to throw this out here about Detroit.
[23:52] Speaker 2: Cleveland was pretty good when they fired JB Biggerstaff. Just
[23:56] Speaker 2: keep an eye on, not saying that's going to, anything's
[23:57] Speaker 2: going to happen this year, but winning, we've been at
[24:01] Speaker 2: a place where winning has not saved that man's job before. Right.
[24:03] Speaker 2: You know, like, I don't know what is or isn't
[24:05] Speaker 2: going on there. But also, hey, man, maybe this will
[24:08] Speaker 2: be like, I think it was 2003 where the Magic
[24:10] Speaker 2: went up 3-1 on the Pistons and Tracy McGrady said
[24:13] Speaker 2: it felt good to get out of the first round
[24:15] Speaker 2: and then didn't.
[24:16] Speaker 3: They didn't.
[24:16] Speaker 2: They did not. So maybe that's on there. But anyway,
[24:18] Speaker 2: that's another series that's happening. Boston and Philadelphia. Glad Philadelphia
[24:22] Speaker 2: got that win. Jason Tatum, surgeon. Hey, man, I can't
[24:27] Speaker 2: imagine all the fun. Every time somebody tear an ACL,
[24:29] Speaker 2: they need to call that motherfucker, man.
[24:30] Speaker 3: I can't believe, like, That's what White Dante did. Followed
[24:35] Speaker 3: the exact Jason Tatum protocol.
[24:37] Speaker 2: Like that guy, he got a beeper like the doctors
[24:39] Speaker 2: used to. Anytime at night, they're like, hey man, we're
[24:42] Speaker 2: flying somebody in, baby. They coming to you. Can you
[24:44] Speaker 2: imagine the prices he could charge? Price of the brick
[24:47] Speaker 2: going up, yo. Thud and mo.
[24:50] Speaker 3: Tatum's averaging 25, 9, and 8 on 63% true shooting.
[24:55] Speaker 3: And he tore his Achilles 11 months ago.
[24:57] Speaker 2: Yeah, look, we're going to see what happens with him
[24:59] Speaker 2: guarding people, like the farther this goes, but I am
[25:02] Speaker 2: I am stunned. Cause you know, we talked about this
[25:04] Speaker 2: when he came back and I was like, Hey man,
[25:06] Speaker 2: you can't give him to Joe. If Joe can't play
[25:08] Speaker 2: him like Joe play back. And they, they, they clearly
[25:11] Speaker 2: have there. They are, they are walking the Sixers.
[25:14] Speaker 1: Out of there.
[25:15] Speaker 2: Joel and B came back. That was nice of him
[25:17] Speaker 2: to do. Um, they, okay. Um, anyway, the Knicks Hawks,
[25:21] Speaker 2: we'll see how that goes. Um, I was talking to
[25:24] Speaker 2: a friend of mine. Um, I said to something because, uh,
[25:27] Speaker 2: the Hawks were playing a game. We had a story
[25:29] Speaker 2: about that, but anyway, um, She asked me how the
[25:33] Speaker 2: game was, and I said, well, it's the Knicks and
[25:36] Speaker 2: the Hawks, so nobody really wants to win. That was
[25:41] Speaker 2: how game three felt of that series. It's the Knicks
[25:43] Speaker 2: and the Hawks. Nobody really wants to get this done.
[25:47] Speaker 2: Oklahoma City and Phoenix, you know, like Phoenix. I guess, look,
[25:54] Speaker 2: Phoenix ain't got no picks, so you might as well
[25:55] Speaker 2: go to the playoffs. Good for them. Good for them.
[25:58] Speaker 2: It seems very clear to me who the three best
[25:59] Speaker 2: teams in this postseason have been so far. It is
[26:02] Speaker 2: the Oklahoma City Thunder. It is the Boston Celtics. And
[26:07] Speaker 2: it is the San Antonio Spurs. Shout out to Big Vic.
[26:10] Speaker 2: Big Vic came back on Sunday. I told you the
[26:12] Speaker 2: whole thing about playing with a concussion is not about
[26:15] Speaker 2: whether or not you can play with a concussion. It
[26:17] Speaker 2: is the acute risks that come from having another concussion.
[26:20] Speaker 2: And I will note, Victor seems to be implying that
[26:23] Speaker 2: he did not have a concussion.
[26:24] Speaker 3: Yes.
[26:25] Speaker 2: Like there's something to be said for that, that being
[26:29] Speaker 2: knocked unconscious is not the same thing necessarily as having
[26:33] Speaker 2: a concussion. You can be knocked unconscious and not have
[26:36] Speaker 2: a concussion. You can have a concussion and not be
[26:39] Speaker 2: knocked unconscious. That seems to be the thing, that football
[26:42] Speaker 2: has us on everything. Oh, it's got to be a concussion.
[26:45] Speaker 2: He hit his chin. He didn't hit his head. Maybe
[26:47] Speaker 2: there was a brain, whatever it was. The way that
[26:50] Speaker 2: he was talking about the protocol after the game implies
[26:53] Speaker 2: that this guy, who may be the smartest dude in
[26:55] Speaker 2: the NBA, was like, this shit is stupid. Why can't
[26:58] Speaker 2: I play? And as I said before... No one's head
[27:02] Speaker 2: is safer from injury than his.
[27:04] Speaker 3: For sure.
[27:05] Speaker 2: Like, they're not going to hit him in the head again, right? Right. Dude,
[27:07] Speaker 2: he's back out there against the Trailblazers, and they just
[27:12] Speaker 2: don't belong in the same place. They don't. This is not.
[27:15] Speaker 3: They were down 17 at half and one by more
[27:18] Speaker 3: than 20.
[27:19] Speaker 2: Ran away from him. Just flat out ran away from him.
[27:21] Speaker 2: They got dudes, man. Castle is a dude. Devin Vassell,
[27:25] Speaker 2: good enough. He's making all that money, by the way.
[27:27] Speaker 2: Remember when he signed that extension for like 30-something million dollars,
[27:30] Speaker 2: but you didn't know what he looked like?
[27:32] Speaker 1: Yep.
[27:32] Speaker 2: Yeah. The French dude that looked like Franklin Saint-Daddy on Snowfall,
[27:38] Speaker 2: Shan Pipple? How you say Shan Pipple's name? Is it Shan-Pack-San-Pack-
[27:47] Speaker 2: You know, the French dude. The French dude. Like, did
[27:51] Speaker 2: they give him Jessica Victor one and Sham Pitbull? I
[27:53] Speaker 2: know there's another Sham Pitbull on another team.
[27:57] Speaker 3: I guess he just needed a French friend.
[27:59] Speaker 2: Yeah, I forget how you, like, I've been watching their games,
[28:02] Speaker 2: but all them other dudes don't really matter that much
[28:04] Speaker 2: to me. Let me go to a basketball reference so
[28:06] Speaker 2: I can pronounce Sham Pitbull's name the right way, because
[28:08] Speaker 2: it's not champagne. Champagny. And I just want to point
[28:12] Speaker 2: out to those of you who don't know why I
[28:14] Speaker 2: could get this wrong. It spells C-H-A-M-P-A-G-N-I-E, right? So champagne
[28:20] Speaker 2: is not guaranteed. For sure. That ain't how you say
[28:23] Speaker 2: it in French.
[28:24] Speaker 1: No.
[28:24] Speaker 2: So anyway, champagne people and them dudes, they out here hooping.
[28:28] Speaker 2: They out here making it happen.
[28:31] Speaker 5: But it is just so crazy to watch grown men
[28:33] Speaker 5: have no desire to come anywhere near the basket.
[28:36] Speaker 2: Because there's a dude down there that's eight feet tall, right?
[28:40] Speaker 3: Eight feet tall coming back from injury. No, thanks.
[28:42] Speaker 1: Yeah.
[28:43] Speaker 2: Like I am of the belief that. The playoffs are different.
[28:47] Speaker 2: And you're, watch what's, look at what's happening with Detroit, right?
[28:51] Speaker 2: The playoffs are different and you have to figure out
[28:53] Speaker 2: how to play in this different type of basketball before
[28:56] Speaker 2: you can just walk to a championship, right? Like it's
[28:58] Speaker 2: not just the, oh, you got to lose. No, there's
[29:01] Speaker 2: a terrain that you have to get to understand that
[29:04] Speaker 2: this is just so completely different than whatever you've done
[29:06] Speaker 2: in the past. But you know what else is different?
[29:10] Speaker 2: Having a dude in the middle that's eight feet tall.
[29:15] Speaker 2: nobody's ever had to do that before in the playoffs.
[29:18] Speaker 2: Cause look, I believe that if Denver comes out there
[29:22] Speaker 2: and they play against San Antonio, San Antonio right now
[29:26] Speaker 2: is playing against a team that's in the same boat
[29:27] Speaker 2: as them as it relates to experience.
[29:29] Speaker 3: Right.
[29:29] Speaker 2: I think that if Denver figures out how to pull
[29:32] Speaker 2: it together against Minnesota, which again is very possible, right?
[29:35] Speaker 2: Like I would not write them off completely. Um, if
[29:40] Speaker 2: they go against San Antonio then we're gonna see slash
[29:43] Speaker 2: learn a lot about the Spurs and what they have
[29:47] Speaker 2: to get together because you saw that end of the
[29:49] Speaker 2: regular season game where Jokic put the 37 on victory
[29:52] Speaker 2: hit him with the chest tap like And.
[29:54] Speaker 3: I mean, that Spurs team is young.
[29:56] Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, yeah. There's a lot for them to get
[29:59] Speaker 2: figured out in the course of this. That's the series
[30:04] Speaker 2: that could be an issue, okay? However, if they get
[30:09] Speaker 2: to play against the Anthony Edwards-less Minnesota Timberwolves, guys, I
[30:16] Speaker 2: don't think that one's going to take very long. Right.
[30:19] Speaker 2: And it will also get us I know I've talked
[30:22] Speaker 2: about this on the show many times, but let us
[30:23] Speaker 2: not forget. When Rudy Gobert won defensive player of the
[30:27] Speaker 2: year two years ago, Victor said in French, congratulations to him,
[30:33] Speaker 2: that he would never win another one. I have never
[30:37] Speaker 2: gotten the feeling that Rudy and Victor are amis.
[30:42] Speaker 1: Correct.
[30:44] Speaker 2: You understand what I'm saying? I don't get the feeling
[30:47] Speaker 2: that they're buddies. I don't get the feeling. Here's what
[30:50] Speaker 2: I don't think.
[30:51] Speaker 5: I don't think Victor takes Rudy seriously, which is a
[30:55] Speaker 5: common thing in the NBA, I will point out.
[30:58] Speaker 2: But I don't think that he takes Rudy seriously. You
[31:02] Speaker 2: tell him that he's going to be matched up against Rudy,
[31:05] Speaker 2: he's going to be pulling Rudy out to the three-point
[31:07] Speaker 2: line and trying to destroy him.
[31:09] Speaker 3: For sure.
[31:11] Speaker 2: I don't think the Timberwolves have any chance and we
[31:13] Speaker 2: are hurtling toward at once Adam Silver's best dream and
[31:18] Speaker 2: worst nightmare.
[31:20] Speaker 3: A giant rivalry for the next 10 years involving San
[31:24] Speaker 3: Antonio and Oklahoma City.
[31:26] Speaker 2: Oh my God.
[31:27] Speaker 5: You know how furious it has to be that everybody
[31:30] Speaker 5: has to catch connecting flights between those places that really
[31:34] Speaker 5: aren't that far.
[31:35] Speaker 2: From each other.
[31:35] Speaker 3: David Stern is rolling over his grave.
[31:37] Speaker 2: Oh my God. David Stern would have sent Scott Foster.
[31:44] Speaker 2: Dangerous Danny Davis. Teddy Long, Richard Steele, like every referee.
[31:50] Speaker 3: He might have gotten Donahue out of retirement.
[31:53] Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. No, no, no, no, no, no.
[31:55] Speaker 2: He'd have got Earl Hebner. He'd have got every referee
[31:58] Speaker 2: that anybody has ever heard of for being janky anywhere else.
[32:02] Speaker 2: That dude that missed the call in the 85 World Series,
[32:05] Speaker 2: Don Deconger. They'd have any of them motherfuckers out here.
[32:09] Speaker 2: Terry Rozier, you'd make him a referee if you had to,
[32:12] Speaker 2: to try to prevent this from happening. It is going
[32:15] Speaker 2: to happen. Every single year.
[32:17] Speaker 3: Vince McMahon in a referee jersey before he heads.
[32:20] Speaker 1: Yes.
[32:21] Speaker 2: Hey, man, let me tell you something. Let me tell
[32:23] Speaker 2: you how good an organization Oklahoma City is. Think about this.
[32:26] Speaker 2: Not once has anybody been like, yo, you're going to
[32:28] Speaker 2: have to move them. Right. They talk about trying to
[32:31] Speaker 2: move the Grizzlies to Nashville. They talk about all this stuff.
[32:36] Speaker 2: Oklahoma City is like, no, we holding our brick over here.
[32:40] Speaker 2: We do our part. And they do. Like, we fill
[32:43] Speaker 2: this bitch up. Our teams are good. We get loud.
[32:46] Speaker 2: We have typically been a television draw throughout our history. Like,
[32:50] Speaker 2: it was, I mean, you probably remember what a big
[32:53] Speaker 2: deal it was when they got that team from Seattle
[32:55] Speaker 2: and everybody acted like it was such an injustice that
[32:58] Speaker 2: they had done that, you know, and everything else. And
[33:00] Speaker 2: they have held it down.
[33:02] Speaker 3: For two decades.
[33:04] Speaker 2: Yes. In a market that people would think would not
[33:07] Speaker 2: necessarily be that NBA-friendly.
[33:10] Speaker 3: Yeah.
[33:10] Speaker 2: Except they like, brother, we rooted for the very Switzerland,
[33:13] Speaker 2: Oklahoma Sooners. We know what it takes to win. They
[33:17] Speaker 2: ain't got all them dorks on that team for the people.
[33:22] Speaker 2: They got all them dorks on that team because they
[33:23] Speaker 2: need some people that's happy just playing PlayStation. And that's
[33:26] Speaker 2: all they need to satisfy their nightlife Jones. That's what
[33:31] Speaker 2: they got. A bunch of dudes that like each other.
[33:33] Speaker 2: But that series is coming. I cannot wait. I cannot wait.
[33:37] Speaker 2: Victor might get Rudy, who he hates, as his warm-up
[33:40] Speaker 2: for the guy that he really hates and he really
[33:44] Speaker 2: doesn't take seriously.
[33:46] Speaker 3: Victor.
[33:48] Speaker 2: Yeah, hey, hey, man. There's no way Victor be out
[33:52] Speaker 2: there posting up with the monks. I'm assuming he knows
[33:56] Speaker 2: some form of Kung Fu, which is terrifying. Can you
[34:00] Speaker 2: imagine getting jabbed in the face?
[34:03] Speaker 3: Can you imagine how far away Victor is when he
[34:05] Speaker 3: kicks you?
[34:06] Speaker 2: That's all I'm saying, man. Like he ain't got no
[34:09] Speaker 2: idea what his go-go gadget arms going to stroll off
[34:11] Speaker 2: on you. But now imagine all these things we know
[34:14] Speaker 2: about him and the way he talks. Imagine what he
[34:17] Speaker 2: thinks about Minnesota's most wanted Chet Holmgren. Can I take
[34:24] Speaker 2: my laugh right quick?
[34:32] Speaker 3: That's good stuff.
[34:33] Speaker 2: I did that.
[34:33] Speaker 5: I just came up with it right then, too. That
[34:35] Speaker 5: was the best part. I wasn't even planning for it.
[34:37] Speaker 5: He has to think nothing of him.
[34:39] Speaker 1: No.
[34:40] Speaker 2: Nothing at all. Oh, my God. And let me see
[34:42] Speaker 2: how much, like, the beef trickles down. The whole Spurs
[34:45] Speaker 2: don't fuck with Chet.
[34:46] Speaker 3: No.
[34:47] Speaker 2: Just because Victor doesn't fuck with Chet. Like, that's what
[34:50] Speaker 2: that is. We've got that, and then we got Boston.
[34:54] Speaker 2: These Knicks, as they have been behaving and currently constructed,
[34:57] Speaker 2: Boston is going to run them out of the building.
[35:01] Speaker 2: at least it feels that way. Maybe the Knicks mess
[35:03] Speaker 2: around and get it back together, right? My thing with
[35:06] Speaker 2: the Knicks, and I just don't know if you can
[35:08] Speaker 2: win this way. And I don't know if there's anybody...
[35:14] Speaker 2: I've been watching, I've watched every game of the Knicks
[35:16] Speaker 2: and the Hawks, right? I got attachments. I live here,
[35:19] Speaker 2: you know. Used to root for the Hawks before they
[35:22] Speaker 2: told me not to root for them anymore, February 24th, 1994.
[35:24] Speaker 1: So anyway.
[35:29] Speaker 2: There's only one person in that building that can guard
[35:32] Speaker 2: Carl Anthony Towns. And it's number 32 for the Knicks.
[35:37] Speaker 2: There's nobody. Look at who the Hawks are trotting out there.
[35:41] Speaker 2: They trotting out the tall and that's all all-stars. That's
[35:44] Speaker 2: like in the post from Clark Atlanta University, Bo Money Jones.
[35:54] Speaker 2: That's who they be having down there guarding him. Why
[35:57] Speaker 2: is he not scoring.
[35:59] Speaker 2: So many times that's like why are you not scoring
[36:02] Speaker 2: 40 points a game is my question there shouldn't be
[36:04] Speaker 2: a single there should be only one person in the
[36:06] Speaker 2: nba who can guard him and that's victor and it
[36:08] Speaker 2: don't never feel that way.
[36:11] Speaker 3: No and he has and he's good for a good
[36:15] Speaker 3: true playoff meltdown once a year and we haven't gotten
[36:17] Speaker 3: that yet.
[36:17] Speaker 2: He is but i just feel like boston and to
[36:22] Speaker 2: be fair to boston it feels like they've made it
[36:25] Speaker 2: to the conference finals every year for like the last
[36:27] Speaker 2: 10 Pretty close. I mean, Jalen Brown and Jalen Brown
[36:33] Speaker 2: and Jason Tatum, they're tested like Magic Johnson was through
[36:37] Speaker 2: nine years. Obviously not with the same number of championships,
[36:40] Speaker 2: but they just go deep. They've just gone deep in
[36:42] Speaker 2: the playoffs every year. They had that year with Kyrie,
[36:45] Speaker 2: you know, it got weird with Kyrie. I think that
[36:47] Speaker 2: was 2019, but otherwise they just go and they go
[36:50] Speaker 2: and they go. And yeah, the Knicks had them last year.
[36:53] Speaker 1: I don't know.
[36:56] Speaker 2: I don't, nothing that I've seen in this series with
[36:58] Speaker 2: them against the Hawks has indicated to me that they're
[37:01] Speaker 2: going to be there. They play it against a team
[37:03] Speaker 2: that is the, you know, about the, great rely on
[37:06] Speaker 2: for the lie. It's easy to kill a man that's
[37:08] Speaker 2: about the business of killing himself.
[37:10] Speaker 3: Jalen Brown's played in 139 playoff games. It's insane.
[37:15] Speaker 2: It's insane. And this is what year 10.
[37:16] Speaker 3: Right.
[37:17] Speaker 2: This is his, this is his 10th year in the NBA.
[37:20] Speaker 1: Right.
[37:20] Speaker 2: So that means you say how many? 139.
[37:22] Speaker 3: So they're averaging.
[37:25] Speaker 2: Getting to 139. So it's 14 a year. Yes.
[37:30] Speaker 3: It's going to be at least two series a year.
[37:32] Speaker 2: It's going to get to, well, it's going to get
[37:33] Speaker 2: to like 15. So that's two and change. You're averaging.
[37:37] Speaker 3: He's got the same amount of playoff games as Patrick Ewing.
[37:39] Speaker 2: Yeah. You're wow. You're basically averaging the conference finals.
[37:45] Speaker 3: Yes.
[37:46] Speaker 2: Every year since that guy has gotten there. No, they're
[37:49] Speaker 2: going to, they're going to win the East, right? Those
[37:55] Speaker 2: are our three right now. But San Antonio, Oklahoma City, buddy,
[38:01] Speaker 2: if I was not so allergic to connected flights at
[38:04] Speaker 2: this point in my bourgeois ass life, I'd consider following
[38:07] Speaker 2: that series like the Grateful Dead. Shit, I wouldn't care
[38:10] Speaker 2: if Marvin Gaye was playing at halftime. You ain't got
[38:12] Speaker 2: me catching all them little... And by the way, that's
[38:15] Speaker 2: the plane that... It's going to be the plane that
[38:16] Speaker 2: go from San Antonio to Dallas or San Antonio to Houston.
[38:21] Speaker 2: And then that same plane that go from Houston to
[38:23] Speaker 2: Dallas to Oklahoma City. Buddy, let me tell you, hope
[38:27] Speaker 2: you're not looking for no leg room. That plane, I
[38:30] Speaker 2: know that plane. That plane is the plane I took
[38:36] Speaker 2: when I was over there flying Hammer Sickle Airlines in Vietnam.
[38:43] Speaker 2: That's my thing. New plane, what for? That's the planes
[38:47] Speaker 2: you get on and you look around and they don't
[38:49] Speaker 2: even put the Wi-Fi sticker up.
[38:51] Speaker 3: Yeah, that's the Houston to Midland special.
[38:54] Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, yeah. It'll be... It ain't going... You can wait.
[38:59] Speaker 2: You can wait. We got Wi-Fi at home.
[39:01] Speaker 3: What's that important? You can wait 90 minutes.
[39:03] Speaker 2: Yeah, we got Wi-Fi at home, baby. You'll be all right.

[40:32] Speaker 2: Hey, let's be honest. At a certain age, our bodies
[40:35] Speaker 2: don't feel like they used to. Now, here's what I learned.
[40:39] Speaker 2: Your body makes testosterone, but a lot of it gets
[40:41] Speaker 2: locked up and can't be used. There's this protein called
[40:44] Speaker 2: SHBG that basically handcuffs your testosterone. Even if your body's
[40:49] Speaker 2: making testosterone, SHBG locks it up so you can't access it.
[40:54] Speaker 2: It's like having money in the bank, but your debit
[40:56] Speaker 2: card doesn't work. Mars Men is designed to free lock
[41:00] Speaker 2: testosterone so your body can actually use it. With eight
[41:04] Speaker 2: natural clinically dosed ingredients, Mars Men supports healthy T levels, energy,
[41:09] Speaker 2: and stamina. 90-day money-back guarantee. so there's no risk. Worst case,
[41:15] Speaker 2: you don't absolutely love it and you get your money back,
[41:18] Speaker 2: but over 91% of users report higher energy levels. Thousands

[41:55] Speaker 2: We know you can't be on top of all the
[41:57] Speaker 2: news and information of the day, No need for the
[41:59] Speaker 2: social media feeds.
[42:01] Speaker 3: We got you. Now, if you haven't heard. All right, Bo,
[42:05] Speaker 3: if you haven't heard, a little bit of a boring
[42:07] Speaker 3: NFL draft, but the biggest story of the weekend, Rams
[42:12] Speaker 3: take Ty Simpson at number 13. Wes Need, general manager
[42:18] Speaker 3: and head coach on base, seemed to be at odds
[42:20] Speaker 3: about this pick the night of. They've since walked it back,
[42:24] Speaker 3: saying they're in lockstep, picking the first round quarterback. At
[42:30] Speaker 3: 13 overall, Bo, what was your reaction to this decision?
[42:32] Speaker 2: Okay, first of all, shout out to you, Dan Arlovsky.
[42:37] Speaker 2: Like no one has ever been validated by somebody else's
[42:40] Speaker 2: questionable decision. Quite like Dan Orlowski was.
[42:43] Speaker 3: I bet that man was doing the big balls dance
[42:44] Speaker 3: all weekend.
[42:45] Speaker 2: Oh my God.
[42:46] Speaker 3: If he knows it, but if he was, yeah, but
[42:47] Speaker 3: he was a very happy guy.
[42:48] Speaker 2: And look, I don't know Dan very well, but I've
[42:50] Speaker 2: met Dan a couple of times. He seems like a
[42:52] Speaker 2: very pleasant person and everybody I know that really works
[42:54] Speaker 2: with him, really likes him. Like he seems like a
[42:56] Speaker 2: very genuine, nice man. And I appreciate about him on
[43:00] Speaker 2: television is, Sometimes, I feel the same way about Chris Sims.
[43:04] Speaker 2: Sometimes they think things that nobody else thinks. And they
[43:08] Speaker 2: say them. Like, your opinion is not obligated to be
[43:12] Speaker 2: the median opinion, right? Like, this is how we think.
[43:16] Speaker 3: And he doesn't have any back down either.
[43:18] Speaker 2: No, he doesn't have back down because he is... He
[43:20] Speaker 2: always has a logic to support what it is that
[43:23] Speaker 2: he's talking about. Now, the thing with Ty Simpson is,
[43:26] Speaker 2: as my good buddy Dimitri said, his big Alabama fan,
[43:30] Speaker 2: as he said when Ty Simpson got drafted, he was like,
[43:31] Speaker 2: have they watched him play? Like, I've been listening to
[43:34] Speaker 2: his scouting report and Ty Simpson the whole way, and
[43:36] Speaker 2: it's crazy. Ty Simpson is also 6'1, I want to say,
[43:40] Speaker 2: and it is kind of crazy town to take a
[43:42] Speaker 2: 6'1 quarterback that does not have unreal athleticism at the
[43:45] Speaker 2: number 13 pick in the draft at quarterback.
[43:48] Speaker 3: Who didn't play that much.
[43:49] Speaker 2: 15 starts like this. This is not Anthony Richardson where
[43:52] Speaker 2: you're like, hey, man, got to got to try. Right.
[43:56] Speaker 2: Don't give up yet. Tell you now, don't give up yet.
[44:00] Speaker 2: But but anyway, here's what got me about this is
[44:03] Speaker 2: that Sean McVay press conference and Sean McVay did not
[44:06] Speaker 2: have much to say about that selection.
[44:09] Speaker 3: Right.
[44:10] Speaker 2: Sean McVay, by the way, who has been spending the
[44:13] Speaker 2: last how long? Three weeks being like, oh, no need
[44:16] Speaker 2: to talk about me. Keep on talking about. The other
[44:20] Speaker 2: coaches don't talk about me. No, no, no. He has
[44:23] Speaker 2: been he has been asymptotically close to a major story
[44:28] Speaker 2: in the NFL. Asymptotically, though, stayed away. Anyway, he did
[44:34] Speaker 2: not sound very happy with that draft pick. Right. He
[44:37] Speaker 2: did not. And as you said, they have tried to
[44:39] Speaker 2: walk it back. I just want to point something out
[44:42] Speaker 2: to people right fast. Jeremy Fowler, ESPN, very good reporter.
[44:47] Speaker 2: He was inside the Rams draft room when they made,
[44:50] Speaker 2: by the way, imagine being him.
[44:52] Speaker 3: All right.
[44:52] Speaker 2: We're in the Rams draft room. Okay. Like what's the
[44:56] Speaker 2: most exciting thing that could possibly happen? Oh shit. They
[44:59] Speaker 2: took a quarterback when they have the rating league MVP.
[45:01] Speaker 1: Right. Okay.
[45:03] Speaker 2: And it's also worth noting that let's need the general manager,
[45:06] Speaker 2: his buddies with Ty Simpson's dad.
[45:09] Speaker 3: Yes.
[45:10] Speaker 2: We're also old enough now, Ryan, where people's dad's names
[45:12] Speaker 2: are Jason.
[45:13] Speaker 3: Yes.
[45:14] Speaker 1: Right.
[45:14] Speaker 2: We're at that point. So anyway, In the article, Fowler
[45:20] Speaker 2: had an anonymous quote attributed to somebody familiar with the
[45:24] Speaker 2: Rams thinking who said they are both in lockstep. Okay,
[45:31] Speaker 2: that was the phrasing. They are both in lockstep. The
[45:35] Speaker 2: next day, Les Snead does a presser and he says
[45:40] Speaker 2: that the Rams, let me say it says that McVay
[45:45] Speaker 2: and the whole everybody is in lockstep. Now maybe lockstep
[45:50] Speaker 2: is just their word, but I felt like I sniffed
[45:54] Speaker 2: out who told us that the whole organization was in lockstep.
[45:59] Speaker 2: And it's the same guy who put his name on
[46:02] Speaker 2: everybody being in lockstep. That makes me a little more questionable.
[46:06] Speaker 3: The more you say you're in lockstep, the less I
[46:09] Speaker 3: think you are in lockstep.
[46:10] Speaker 2: You couldn't even put your name on it. That's my thing,
[46:13] Speaker 2: is that it seems like you asked to be anonymous
[46:16] Speaker 2: saying lockstep so it wouldn't just seem like you was
[46:18] Speaker 2: the only motherfucker that was saying it. Like that way
[46:21] Speaker 2: we have two people saying it's lockstep, but it sounds
[46:23] Speaker 2: like it's only one person in lockstep. And I find
[46:26] Speaker 2: it far more likely that it's one person in lockstep
[46:28] Speaker 2: than two, because number one, nobody else would have taken
[46:32] Speaker 2: that dude at number 13. And number two, I watched
[46:35] Speaker 2: Sean McVay run Jared Goff out of town. And Jared
[46:39] Speaker 2: Goff was a definite better prospect coming out of school
[46:44] Speaker 2: than Ty Simpson was. And Jared Goff, for all his weaknesses,
[46:48] Speaker 2: is still a quarterback of a very, very, very good
[46:51] Speaker 2: team and has had like a 10-year career going into
[46:53] Speaker 2: year 11. It'll probably be like a 15-year career. And
[46:56] Speaker 2: the problems they've had up there have not been Jared Goff.
[47:01] Speaker 2: And that wasn't good enough for Sean McVay. But you're
[47:03] Speaker 2: telling me he okay with Ty Simpson?
[47:08] Speaker 1: Okay.
[47:10] Speaker 3: All right, speaking of two people who are not in lockstep,
[47:13] Speaker 3: Megan Thee Stallion and Kaleigh Thompson seem to have broken up.
[47:16] Speaker 3: Megan Thee Stallion shared on Instagram's story and released an
[47:20] Speaker 3: official statement that their relationship has ended. Per her story,
[47:25] Speaker 3: Thompson had cheated on her since she introduced him to
[47:27] Speaker 3: her family. And it said with him, quote, playing house.
[47:32] Speaker 3: But what was your reaction to this?
[47:34] Speaker 2: Oh boy, Ryan, one thing I can tell in this
[47:36] Speaker 2: is that you got married early, so you've never had
[47:38] Speaker 2: anybody use words like playing house in the likes to
[47:42] Speaker 2: describe the situation. Oh boy, it does not go, this
[47:46] Speaker 2: does not happen to me personally, just to be clear. But,
[47:49] Speaker 2: nothing they hate more than feeling like they play in
[47:53] Speaker 2: house as opposed to actually having a place in the house. Look, man,
[47:57] Speaker 2: I've been saying that whole time about that situation. I
[47:59] Speaker 2: didn't know why Clay was still playing basketball. They look
[48:01] Speaker 2: so happy. They said they had bought houses and all
[48:03] Speaker 2: of this stuff, but maybe he wasn't that happy. I
[48:09] Speaker 2: don't have the answer. I don't have the explanation. I
[48:11] Speaker 2: watched her be very happy, and I watched him kind
[48:14] Speaker 2: of be like Clay Thompson.
[48:15] Speaker 3: Right.
[48:16] Speaker 2: Right? I don't know. I just know this. That parasocial
[48:20] Speaker 2: relationship that many of the ladies have with Megan Thee Stallion,
[48:25] Speaker 2: vicious dog, vicious. Like, I don't know how online Klay
[48:29] Speaker 2: Thompson is. I do not know. But I do know this.
[48:33] Speaker 2: It is amazing how some things just live online. And
[48:37] Speaker 2: if you just let them stay online, you can have
[48:39] Speaker 2: no idea what's going on, right? Like, one of my
[48:42] Speaker 2: partners was telling me that one of my biggest haters
[48:46] Speaker 2: was going off on me over the weekend. And I
[48:50] Speaker 2: told him, I have no idea what you're talking about.
[48:52] Speaker 2: And I have no interest in knowing what he's talking about.
[48:55] Speaker 2: And I still have no idea. Like once I stopped
[48:58] Speaker 2: looking on the internet for what people had to say
[49:00] Speaker 2: to me, it all went away.
[49:03] Speaker 5: Right?
[49:04] Speaker 2: Like, when you feel like, oh my God, I'm under
[49:06] Speaker 2: assault online, right? Like, you know, look.
[49:09] Speaker 3: Not if you don't look at your mentions, you aren't.
[49:10] Speaker 2: Not if you don't look, right? It's amazing. It all
[49:13] Speaker 2: goes away. And I am saying for clay thompson if
[49:16] Speaker 2: you are not online like that keep it that way
[49:19] Speaker 2: brother because they are on your neck it is i
[49:24] Speaker 2: it whoo you know when megan had it she done
[49:27] Speaker 2: had a tough life right she had a lot of
[49:28] Speaker 2: tough things happen to her and the parasocial among us
[49:32] Speaker 2: really wrap their arms around her man like they they
[49:35] Speaker 2: they they want They want the best things for her.
[49:38] Speaker 2: And I see that and I understand it, but I
[49:39] Speaker 2: saw some of the craziest shit I've ever seen on
[49:41] Speaker 2: the internet. Like you would think that they, that people,
[49:44] Speaker 2: we don't know these people, man. Even if you have
[49:48] Speaker 2: an opinion, it's not the fact, it's not that people
[49:50] Speaker 2: have an opinion on it because having opinions on celebrity
[49:52] Speaker 2: stuff or whatever is one thing. It was the passion.
[49:56] Speaker 3: Well, let's say again, it's the parasocial. It's making it about. Yes.
[50:02] Speaker 2: Like I said, there's some people out here who don't
[50:04] Speaker 2: feel like they was playing house before.
[50:07] Speaker 5: There was some PTSD off of that or whatever it was.
[50:11] Speaker 2: I don't even know. But yeah, Clay was white. Nah.
[50:16] Speaker 2: The other lesson to be learned, and this is the
[50:18] Speaker 2: other thing about being very online. Hey, man. You deal
[50:23] Speaker 2: with somebody that's very online, eventually it's going to be
[50:26] Speaker 2: about you.
[50:27] Speaker 3: Yes.
[50:28] Speaker 2: It might not have your name in it, but eventually
[50:32] Speaker 2: it's going to be about you. And hey, maybe you
[50:35] Speaker 2: don't care, right? But she so online.
[50:40] Speaker 3: Right.
[50:40] Speaker 2: She's showing them watching movies at the house and cooking
[50:44] Speaker 2: dinner and everything else. And then I'd hear, you know, look,
[50:46] Speaker 2: that's the game. That's what that's part of the business
[50:48] Speaker 2: plan is selling access to her whole life. She does
[50:53] Speaker 2: the lives with people. And look again, she's been through
[50:55] Speaker 2: some things, man. I don't know what the relationship is
[50:57] Speaker 2: that she feels she has with her audience. Like if
[50:59] Speaker 2: those are her friends, fame is a very isolating thing.
[51:02] Speaker 2: sort of thing or whatever it is. But anyway, Clay
[51:05] Speaker 2: wound up in all of that, right? He was there.
[51:08] Speaker 2: And I don't think he realized that can turn on
[51:11] Speaker 2: you very, very, very quickly. But all you got to
[51:17] Speaker 2: do is log off. And it's like it never happened. However,
[51:23] Speaker 2: you can't ever log back on. They were saying fuck
[51:26] Speaker 2: him and his dog. I saw his dog catch some strings.
[51:32] Speaker 3: All right. We mentioned this earlier in the show, but
[51:35] Speaker 3: there was a shooting at the White House Correspondents Center
[51:38] Speaker 3: over the weekend. President rushed from the stage. It appears
[51:42] Speaker 3: to be OK. The suspect is in custody and being
[51:46] Speaker 3: arraigned in federal court this morning. Bo, what was your
[51:50] Speaker 3: reaction to this news?
[51:53] Speaker 2: Do you remember, and this is how crazy life is.
[51:56] Speaker 2: Do you remember that story that broke? I think it
[51:59] Speaker 2: was maybe a year or so ago. It was in
[52:02] Speaker 2: the New York Times and it was about Elon Musk
[52:05] Speaker 2: drug addiction.
[52:06] Speaker 1: Yes.
[52:07] Speaker 2: And it was a very extensive report about him just
[52:10] Speaker 2: being like flat out strung out on dope. That next day,
[52:15] Speaker 2: there was something going on in the Oval Office and
[52:18] Speaker 2: there was some press availability and it went to the
[52:21] Speaker 2: questions and I had never heard a softer, set of
[52:27] Speaker 2: questions ever. And it was the reminder that, yo, they
[52:31] Speaker 2: basically cleared out who the people were who get credentialed
[52:35] Speaker 2: and who show up to ask the questions, right? Like
[52:38] Speaker 2: it's all friendly fire whenever it's time to answer questions
[52:42] Speaker 2: in that setting. And I thought about that because after
[52:45] Speaker 2: whatever happened with this thing at the dinner, and hey,
[52:52] Speaker 2: I will not be speculating on what did or did
[52:56] Speaker 2: not happen, and why or why not. I think it
[53:00] Speaker 2: did or did not happen. You'll have to do that
[53:03] Speaker 2: without me. I will simply say, I understand your questions.
[53:08] Speaker 3: Right?
[53:09] Speaker 2: However, What jumped out to me was them cats come
[53:14] Speaker 2: out after it happened. They all tuxed up. Nobody looks nervous.
[53:18] Speaker 2: Nobody looked. Ryan, I don't know if you've ever been
[53:20] Speaker 2: somewhere where people started shooting, man, but that gets you
[53:22] Speaker 2: a little jittery. You know what I'm saying?
[53:26] Speaker 3: Yeah. I can imagine it's a little unnerving.
[53:29] Speaker 2: It's energy to it, right?
[53:30] Speaker 1: Yeah.
[53:31] Speaker 2: Nobody looked unnerved, right? They were all selling what a
[53:35] Speaker 2: great job law enforcement did. That was the sell of
[53:39] Speaker 2: that immediate press conference to me was how well law
[53:43] Speaker 2: enforcement did in handling the situation. And then it got
[53:48] Speaker 2: to the question. And the first question was from the
[53:50] Speaker 2: president of the White House Correspondents Association. And, bro, you
[53:56] Speaker 2: would have thought that they had just won the NFC
[53:58] Speaker 2: championship game. What was going through your mind in that moment?
[54:03] Speaker 2: Like I turned it off after like two questions because
[54:05] Speaker 2: the questions were all sound like sideline reporters. But like
[54:09] Speaker 2: Craig Sager would have had some real questions. They had
[54:12] Speaker 2: a real questions like. So how did somebody get. How
[54:15] Speaker 2: did this happen. Like not one person in the director
[54:18] Speaker 2: of FBI was there. Not one person was asking the
[54:21] Speaker 2: real important question. How did this happen. How did somebody
[54:26] Speaker 2: get close enough to any of this to be shooting?
[54:30] Speaker 2: How did this Secret Service officer get shot? Wow, so
[54:33] Speaker 2: this guy got in and it was shooting and nobody
[54:36] Speaker 2: shot him, but a Secret Service officer got shot. How
[54:38] Speaker 2: did this happen? Nobody had any of those actual factual
[54:42] Speaker 2: questions that one would typically need to have in a
[54:44] Speaker 2: media situation after this had gone down. Because all the
[54:48] Speaker 2: people whose job it would be to ask such questions,
[54:51] Speaker 2: those people are not allowed anymore anywhere near the dude
[54:55] Speaker 2: to actually ask any questions that was what jumped off
[54:59] Speaker 2: the page to me is that we came out of
[55:01] Speaker 2: that with so much mystery as to what exactly happened
[55:05] Speaker 2: in a room full of media people by the way
[55:07] Speaker 2: i guess everybody's like look man we off tonight but
[55:09] Speaker 2: we ain't even we ain't even doing this shit you
[55:11] Speaker 2: know what i'm saying maybe all i know is they
[55:15] Speaker 2: have decimated the question asking business at a time where
[55:20] Speaker 2: we should have more questions than we have ever had before.
[55:28] Speaker 3: All right, Bo, got a few voicemails. A lot of
[55:31] Speaker 3: great ones. Here's our first.
[55:34] Speaker 1: Hey, Bo, I got a music question for you. I've
[55:41] Speaker 1: been on a little 90s, 2000s kick in rap. And
[55:47] Speaker 1: one thing that I lived through, but I've forgotten now,
[55:52] Speaker 1: but now that I listen to the music, was how
[55:55] Speaker 1: prevalent Nate Dogg was with his hooks back in the day. 2000,
[55:59] Speaker 1: early 2000s, I mean, any hit, he was on it.
[56:03] Speaker 1: So my question to you is, has there ever been
[56:07] Speaker 1: anyone else in music that carved their spot, their niche,
[56:11] Speaker 1: as perfectly as Nate Dogg did with being the hook master?
[56:15] Speaker 1: I mean, he was basically the Mariano Rivera of rap, right?
[56:20] Speaker 2: Of hooks.
[56:21] Speaker 3: You bring him in, boom, it's closed.
[56:24] Speaker 1: So, Is there anyone else in music that had a
[56:27] Speaker 1: specific spot? I know there's greats in all their work,
[56:31] Speaker 1: but a specific spot like that. Love the show. Been
[56:34] Speaker 1: a fan forever. Love you and Ryan's chemistry.
[56:36] Speaker 3: Keep it going.
[56:39] Speaker 2: All right. Hola, mi vida es bien.
[56:44] Speaker 4: Yo dije a mis amigos mi español cuando estaba en
[56:49] Speaker 4: Buenos Aires.
[56:51] Speaker 2: Fue muy bien. Los locos.
[56:56] Speaker 4: Los locos me dijeron, tan bueno mi español fue. Estoy
[57:02] Speaker 4: muy orgulloso sobre mi progreso con el idioma. So, gracias
[57:08] Speaker 4: para tu pregunta en español. Yo entendí tu pregunta y
[57:12] Speaker 4: ahora estoy, ahora puedo responder en el idioma.
[57:20] Speaker 2: Hey. As for Nate Dowd, The Nate Dogg thing is
[57:25] Speaker 2: interesting because what people don't remember is, yes, like he,
[57:29] Speaker 2: I wonder if he just had really good taste, right?
[57:31] Speaker 2: It's kind of like Billy Preston. Every time Billy Preston
[57:33] Speaker 2: is on a jam for the Stones, it is a jam.
[57:36] Speaker 2: And I want to know what songs he was like, nah,
[57:38] Speaker 2: I ain't getting on that, right? Like how many times
[57:40] Speaker 2: Nate Dogg was like, nah, nah, this isn't.
[57:43] Speaker 3: Like his real skill was not making hooks, it was discretion?
[57:46] Speaker 2: Yes, discernment. That is the thing that he really had
[57:50] Speaker 2: down pat. I still wonder whatever happened to the homie Domino. See, Ryan,
[57:55] Speaker 2: when Nate Dogg came out and Regulate came out, it
[57:57] Speaker 2: was another dude who came out at the same time
[58:00] Speaker 2: named Domino. Domino had a jam called the Ghetto Jam.
[58:04] Speaker 2: And Domino and Nate Dogg were doing very similar things.
[58:08] Speaker 2: Domino was definitely a better singer. They was both from LA.
[58:11] Speaker 2: All of this. But Nate Dogg, I guess, was down
[58:14] Speaker 2: with the right crew. And so Nate Dogg's whole situation
[58:17] Speaker 2: took off. Nate Dogg also, it should be noted, Nate
[58:20] Speaker 2: Dogg came back when Dr. Dre came back. Remember when Dr.
[58:24] Speaker 2: Dre fell off a little bit, I don't feel like
[58:26] Speaker 2: we was hearing Nate Dogg that much. But what I
[58:29] Speaker 2: want to know for Nate Dogg and for Nate Dogg's
[58:31] Speaker 2: kinfolk is... Was he writing those hooks? Because if he
[58:35] Speaker 2: was writing those hooks, the dude that writes the hook
[58:37] Speaker 2: typically gets 50% of the publishing. And so if Nate Dogg,
[58:41] Speaker 2: Nate Dogg would have had a really great hustle if
[58:44] Speaker 2: he's the one writing those hooks. He could come in
[58:46] Speaker 2: and get the 50. When nobody working smarter, not harder
[58:51] Speaker 2: than Nate Dogg.
[58:53] Speaker 3: All right, here's our next one.
[58:55] Speaker 6: Hey, what's going on, folks? This is Sean calling from Georgia.
[58:58] Speaker 6: And I know I had a question for you. I
[59:01] Speaker 6: know that sports, nostalgia, nostalgia in general is like a
[59:03] Speaker 6: big thing that we have going on now. But I'm wondering, like,
[59:07] Speaker 6: is the sports nostalgia tied to the fact that, you know,
[59:09] Speaker 6: a lot of athletes we have nowadays, they're all kind
[59:12] Speaker 6: of like really curated and they've been like developed. You know,
[59:15] Speaker 6: we don't have no Charles Oakley no more, no Charles Barkley.
[59:19] Speaker 6: You know, people at P & A do a very different,
[59:20] Speaker 6: do their own thing. And I'm just wondering, do you
[59:22] Speaker 6: think it's just because of how, you know, like curated
[59:25] Speaker 6: our athletes are today?
[59:26] Speaker 1: Appreciate it.
[59:27] Speaker 2: I think that that is certainly a part of it.
[59:29] Speaker 2: I think the other part of it is this is
[59:31] Speaker 2: just what old people like to do. Always have, always will.
[59:35] Speaker 2: The new is always not going to be like the old,
[59:38] Speaker 2: and therefore we want ourselves a little piece of the old.
[59:40] Speaker 2: But it's interesting because, like I said, when we had
[59:43] Speaker 2: those athletes that I think were far more interesting than
[59:45] Speaker 2: the guys we had now, there was people that yearned
[59:47] Speaker 2: for the days when the athletes was boring as hell.
[59:50] Speaker 2: You know, there's people that yearn for the days the
[59:52] Speaker 2: athletes were political. There's people that yearn for the days
[59:54] Speaker 2: of whatever it was Because for most people, getting old sucks.
[59:59] Speaker 2: And therefore, they yearn for whatever the thing is. You
[1:00:03] Speaker 2: know what I mean? But I do think that's part
[1:00:05] Speaker 2: of it. I have said this for the longest. I
[1:00:08] Speaker 2: said this in a room full of athletes, and they
[1:00:10] Speaker 2: were not trying to hear what I was saying. Are
[1:00:12] Speaker 2: you familiar with Deal Book Ryan, the New York Times thing?
[1:00:15] Speaker 3: Yes.
[1:00:15] Speaker 2: And so they invited me to do a panel. But
[1:00:18] Speaker 2: the problem was, it was a panel that was about branding.
[1:00:20] Speaker 2: The problem was, everybody on the panel was an athlete
[1:00:23] Speaker 2: except me, and I wasn't the moderator.
[1:00:27] Speaker 3: Interesting group.
[1:00:28] Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, yeah. It's a little different. And so like
[1:00:31] Speaker 2: the point I was trying to make that they didn't
[1:00:32] Speaker 2: agree with me on. And I mean, look, I would
[1:00:34] Speaker 2: be honest. I was getting a little high minded for
[1:00:36] Speaker 2: this situation. But I'm like, we have to talk about
[1:00:38] Speaker 2: what branding needs in the first place. Like real high
[1:00:40] Speaker 2: school debate shit, right? Like we have to define the terms.
[1:00:43] Speaker 2: But I did think we need to define the terms
[1:00:45] Speaker 2: because we're not necessarily talking about the same thing when
[1:00:48] Speaker 2: we talk about branding. Like go ask people who have
[1:00:50] Speaker 2: a general idea. But if you ask them specifically what
[1:00:52] Speaker 2: they mean by branding, what are they talking about?
[1:00:55] Speaker 3: Probably, and people probably were talking about social media.
[1:00:57] Speaker 2: Yes, right, right. Or just the idea of doing commercials.
[1:01:02] Speaker 2: Like I am a brand and then I go sell stuff, whatever.
[1:01:04] Speaker 2: But I meant a brand in terms of when people
[1:01:07] Speaker 2: look at you, they know what it is, right? Like
[1:01:11] Speaker 2: that's what a brand is supposed to be. The brand
[1:01:13] Speaker 2: is supposed to be a shortcut that when you see
[1:01:16] Speaker 2: the logo, you see the name or whatever, it represents
[1:01:18] Speaker 2: something larger. That's what I'm thinking about when we talk
[1:01:21] Speaker 2: about brands, okay? People think that in order to be
[1:01:26] Speaker 2: a brand that you need to be you need to
[1:01:29] Speaker 2: be boring, basically, because otherwise you're going to offend people.
[1:01:33] Speaker 2: And that interferes with your branding. You see what I mean? Now,
[1:01:36] Speaker 2: it's like in terms of how that I was easy
[1:01:38] Speaker 2: to hop back and forth between the terms. But my
[1:01:40] Speaker 2: point was. That strategy only works for the best of
[1:01:44] Speaker 2: the best. The idea of I'm not going to say
[1:01:46] Speaker 2: anything interesting only works if you're able to make money
[1:01:50] Speaker 2: just on the basis of whatever it is that you do.
[1:01:52] Speaker 3: If your brand is excellence.
[1:01:53] Speaker 2: Right, right. Or you're so good at your job that
[1:01:56] Speaker 2: all that, like Michael Jordan, who wasn't boring, by the way,
[1:01:59] Speaker 2: but he didn't say anything controversial. But all you had
[1:02:02] Speaker 2: to do was watch Michael Jordan play basketball and that
[1:02:03] Speaker 2: was the brand. Okay. Charles Barkley, the brand was being outspoken.
[1:02:08] Speaker 2: Like there's, I contend there's more money in being interesting
[1:02:12] Speaker 2: than there is in being boring for 95% of the
[1:02:16] Speaker 2: people that we're talking about. You might lose some people,
[1:02:18] Speaker 2: but you'll get more people that like, well, Anthony Edwards,
[1:02:22] Speaker 2: great example. Okay. He is completely rough around the edges
[1:02:25] Speaker 2: and that's the brand. He would be far less attractive financially.
[1:02:31] Speaker 2: And I think in terms of to the people, if
[1:02:33] Speaker 2: he were not the way that he is. You see
[1:02:35] Speaker 2: what I mean? And so all these guys are being
[1:02:38] Speaker 2: bred from childhood on up to be boring and be
[1:02:43] Speaker 2: quiet and to say all the right things. And I'm like, brother,
[1:02:46] Speaker 2: the money for you is in being interesting. You're not
[1:02:50] Speaker 2: good enough to be uninteresting and make that money. The
[1:02:54] Speaker 2: money for you is in being interesting. So hopefully somebody
[1:02:58] Speaker 2: will take me up on this and then everybody will
[1:03:00] Speaker 2: see that I am right and then we'll get interesting
[1:03:02] Speaker 2: athletes again.
[1:03:03] Speaker 3: All right, here's our last one.
[1:03:05] Speaker 6: Hey, shout out to Bo Manny and Ryan.
[1:03:08] Speaker 7: This is A.A. Ryan here in Kansas City. Question for
[1:03:13] Speaker 7: you all.
[1:03:16] Speaker 3: Assuming Mr.
[1:03:18] Speaker 7: Vrabel is the coach of the Patriots starting the season
[1:03:23] Speaker 7: and doesn't resign, which this is harder to do in
[1:03:29] Speaker 7: NFL stadiums than in the NBA because sound is a
[1:03:32] Speaker 7: little bit more enclosed in the arenas and the DJs
[1:03:36] Speaker 7: usually are different in the NBA than in the NFL
[1:03:40] Speaker 7: which team in the NFL on the away game when
[1:03:43] Speaker 7: they play the Patriots is going to be petty enough
[1:03:49] Speaker 7: to play Dirty Diana by Michael Jackson and also just
[1:03:56] Speaker 7: a throw in question are y'all planning to go see
[1:03:58] Speaker 7: the new Michael Jackson movie I plan on I don't
[1:04:01] Speaker 7: go to the theater as much, but I'm planning on
[1:04:03] Speaker 7: checking it.
[1:04:03] Speaker 3: Out in the theater.
[1:04:05] Speaker 2: We'll see.
[1:04:06] Speaker 7: Anyway, love the show, Bo. Keep doing great things. Holla
[1:04:09] Speaker 7: at y'all later.
[1:04:11] Speaker 1: 31.
[1:04:11] Speaker 3: Oh, yes. All of them.
[1:04:14] Speaker 2: Everyone had the same bright idea. I knew what it
[1:04:16] Speaker 2: was before you even finished your sentence. Everybody's had that
[1:04:21] Speaker 2: same bright idea. I imagine the Jets will be the
[1:04:23] Speaker 2: ones to most fervently come out here. with that. You
[1:04:28] Speaker 2: know that the Minnesotas, Brian Flores still over there. You
[1:04:34] Speaker 2: remember Brian Flores was playing them Jay-Z songs at Kenny Stills,
[1:04:37] Speaker 2: and that dude was on his own team. You know
[1:04:41] Speaker 2: what I mean? Like, yeah, yeah, nah, they're going to
[1:04:43] Speaker 2: be the ones that do. And the thing that makes
[1:04:45] Speaker 2: that terrible is he's not Diana.
[1:04:51] Speaker 3: Right.
[1:04:52] Speaker 2: Damn, man. Tough go for Diana, man.
[1:04:55] Speaker 3: Tough beat.
[1:04:56] Speaker 2: It's a.
[1:04:58] Speaker 2: This is the part where people would be like, even
[1:05:01] Speaker 2: when you try to dog him, you're dogging her. And
[1:05:03] Speaker 2: it's like, you got a point.
[1:05:05] Speaker 1: Yes.
[1:05:06] Speaker 2: I see what you're saying. That does feel unfair. It
[1:05:09] Speaker 2: does feel unfair. But hey, ladies and gentlemen, thanks so
[1:05:13] Speaker 2: much for joining us here on The Right Time. We
[1:05:15] Speaker 2: do this four days a week. Ryan Brumley handles everything
[1:05:17] Speaker 2: behind the scenes. Thank you, sir. By the way, Ryan,
[1:05:20] Speaker 2: my mother wanted me to tell you you're doing a
[1:05:21] Speaker 2: good job of making your bed up.
[1:05:23] Speaker 3: Thank you so much.
[1:05:24] Speaker 2: She told me that yesterday.
[1:05:27] Speaker 3: It's the, you know, that's the audience who makes people happy.
[1:05:32] Speaker 2: Yes, he's like, I noticed.
[1:05:33] Speaker 3: Your mother and mine.
[1:05:35] Speaker 2: Yes, he's like, I noticed you're doing a better job

[1:05:50] Speaker 2: guys in a couple of days. Take it easy.
