[0:05] Speaker 1: Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the right time. A wave original.
[0:09] Speaker 1: My name is Beaumont Jones. Thanks for listening wherever you
[0:12] Speaker 1: get your podcast. Thanks for watching us on YouTube. Subscribe, like,
[0:17] Speaker 1: rate us, review us, give us five stars. You only
[0:20] Speaker 1: give us four stars. I'm inclined to believe you are
[0:23] Speaker 1: a hater. We're going to talk about, shall we call
[0:27] Speaker 1: it an economic downturn of sorts in college football. I'll
[0:30] Speaker 1: tell you what I mean in a minute. But first,
[0:34] Speaker 1: the Chiefs. and the Eagles played a week two battle
[0:39] Speaker 1: in the game of the week slot, the late afternoon game, right?
[0:45] Speaker 1: I wonder sometimes when these things come up as they do,
[0:48] Speaker 1: what the network people are thinking about it. Because when
[0:51] Speaker 1: you put that sort of game in week one, like
[0:53] Speaker 1: the Thursday night game, it's kind of cool, right? Like
[0:56] Speaker 1: I think they shut out on this, but I remember
[0:58] Speaker 1: the last time that I could think of off the
[0:59] Speaker 1: top of my head where the week one game was
[1:01] Speaker 1: a rematch of the Superbowl. was the Panthers and the
[1:04] Speaker 1: Broncos to start 2016, right? It's like, oh man, they
[1:07] Speaker 1: just played, right? Like you get a crack and you
[1:09] Speaker 1: got like a certain level of excitement about it. But
[1:12] Speaker 1: the other part is when that happens, they're both 0-0, right?
[1:17] Speaker 1: You put this in week two. You get the possibility
[1:20] Speaker 1: of either both teams being 1-0 or at the very least,
[1:26] Speaker 1: one of those teams being 0-1. Highly unlikely that they
[1:29] Speaker 1: both be 0-1, but at least one of those teams
[1:32] Speaker 1: being 0-1. And we all know the damning doom and
[1:35] Speaker 1: gloom statistics about what happened to teams that start seasons
[1:39] Speaker 1: 0-2 in terms of them going to the playoffs or
[1:41] Speaker 1: going to the Super Bowl or anything else. Now, as
[1:45] Speaker 1: I recall... The goddamn Bengals have started a couple of
[1:48] Speaker 1: seasons 0-2 and managed to get their way into the playoffs.
[1:52] Speaker 1: And so that means anybody can do it. I don't
[1:53] Speaker 1: care if they got Joe Burrow or not. They still
[1:55] Speaker 1: got them ugly helmets. They still, they are who they are.
[1:58] Speaker 1: They still got the owner that used to make them
[2:00] Speaker 1: reuse jock straps in there. You know what I'm saying? Like,
[2:03] Speaker 1: if they can do it, anybody can. They out here
[2:06] Speaker 1: itching like a motherfucker. Anyway, we now have 0-2 Chiefs.
[2:13] Speaker 2: All right?
[2:14] Speaker 1: Congratulations to the Eagles. They are 2-0. They did not
[2:17] Speaker 1: look great. I don't think that they look great in
[2:20] Speaker 1: either of the games that they played to start this season.
[2:22] Speaker 1: But they did not look great. But they're 2-0, which
[2:25] Speaker 1: means how they look becomes a much more secondary concern. Okay?
[2:31] Speaker 1: The Chiefs are 0-2. And you have to understand, and
[2:35] Speaker 1: maybe this is unfair of me to do this in
[2:38] Speaker 1: this way, but I want to make sure that I
[2:40] Speaker 1: get these numbers right. But, um, I know these two
[2:44] Speaker 1: games don't have anything to do with each other. There's
[2:46] Speaker 1: a great separation between the two. I don't want to
[2:49] Speaker 1: be too exaggerate. Um, but I'm just saying for me,
[2:53] Speaker 1: it is very difficult on the same day where I
[2:55] Speaker 1: thought saw Russell Wilson throw for 450 yards to watch
[2:59] Speaker 1: Patrick Mahomes throw for a buck 87. Like that was
[3:03] Speaker 1: jarring Ryan. You know, we're both up here in New
[3:05] Speaker 1: York city. I don't know if you got an opportunity
[3:07] Speaker 1: to watch any of Russell Wilson, but, uh, apparently what
[3:11] Speaker 1: they have decided for that team or maybe just against
[3:14] Speaker 1: the Cowboys was, yeah, like it was a video game.
[3:18] Speaker 1: All I do is throw bombs.
[3:20] Speaker 3: Yeah, four verts. Let's chuck it to Malik and see
[3:25] Speaker 3: what happens.
[3:25] Speaker 1: Every play. You know what happens? He runs by everybody, right?
[3:29] Speaker 1: Like the Cowboys, good for you guys. Glad you guys
[3:32] Speaker 1: got a win. But Russell Wilson, who we all thought
[3:34] Speaker 1: was washed, I would start calling that Cowboys defense if
[3:37] Speaker 1: they keep doing stuff like that, the fountain of youth.
[3:39] Speaker 1: Start calling them the time machine. Like all of a
[3:41] Speaker 1: sudden people get right back at it. They're like Epsom salts.
[3:44] Speaker 1: Russell Wilson got in the game. I was like, wow,
[3:46] Speaker 1: my knee hasn't felt this good in years.
[3:48] Speaker 3: Yeah. Nate Tice talked about how Russell Wilson always wanted
[3:51] Speaker 3: to be president. And he was feeding his constituents, his
[3:54] Speaker 3: constituents being Malik.
[3:56] Speaker 2: He was.
[3:57] Speaker 1: By the way, he got himself into trouble because it
[3:58] Speaker 1: clearly became video game time and he's just like, I
[4:00] Speaker 1: just throw it deep, except Malik wasn't going deep that
[4:02] Speaker 1: time and he threw the interception. And then the game
[4:05] Speaker 1: went back the other way. But watching the Chiefs, Ryan
[4:08] Speaker 1: and I were texting during the game and he made
[4:11] Speaker 1: the best point. And I think I heard Tom Brady
[4:12] Speaker 1: also say the same thing or Kevin Burkhardt. I can't
[4:15] Speaker 1: remember which one of them in the broadcast. But the
[4:18] Speaker 1: point was, it all looks like work. Like the Chiefs,
[4:23] Speaker 1: it all looks like work that's not fun i almost
[4:28] Speaker 1: don't care about their record i care about us and
[4:30] Speaker 1: this is not fun.
[4:31] Speaker 3: It's not fun to watch it uh mahomes doesn't look
[4:34] Speaker 3: like he's having a good time he's handing it off
[4:36] Speaker 3: to a geriatric running back and it like you see
[4:41] Speaker 3: the offenses exploding all all over the league today you
[4:44] Speaker 3: know the bills put up 30 your lions put up
[4:47] Speaker 3: 50 and yes they did and mahomes and the chiefs
[4:51] Speaker 3: they look like they're playing a different sport and not
[4:53] Speaker 3: in a good.
[4:53] Speaker 1: Way Yo, so as a visual product, something I find
[4:57] Speaker 1: to be interesting about this, I'm going to ask you
[4:58] Speaker 1: to ride this out with me because I'm going to
[5:00] Speaker 1: get a little bit touchy-feely, a little.
[5:04] Speaker 1: You know those words that feel like they go somewhere
[5:07] Speaker 1: in a sentence, but you don't always know exactly what
[5:10] Speaker 1: they mean? I was about to put ethereal in there,
[5:13] Speaker 1: but I don't really know exactly what that means. But
[5:17] Speaker 1: neither here nor there. Okay, so me and my brother
[5:21] Speaker 1: and the homie Trey... Over here, hanging out the other day,
[5:26] Speaker 1: and we watched a YouTube video of a concert of
[5:31] Speaker 1: Prince in 1990. Now, over the course of the last,
[5:36] Speaker 1: call it a month or so, I have watched three
[5:39] Speaker 1: live Prince shows through streaming, all right? I promise you
[5:44] Speaker 1: it's going to make sense. First one is Prince Live
[5:47] Speaker 1: 1985 in Syracuse, which I think is the best live
[5:50] Speaker 1: concert I've ever seen documented on film. I recommend that
[5:54] Speaker 1: you go check it out. And that is Prince at
[5:56] Speaker 1: the absolute height of his powers. That's Michael Jordan in
[5:59] Speaker 1: 92 with LeBron James in 2012. Like, that is the
[6:04] Speaker 1: pinnacle of that rare generational talent, right? It was never
[6:08] Speaker 1: going to look like that ever again. And I noticed
[6:11] Speaker 1: that especially after watching the concert from Love Sexy Tour
[6:15] Speaker 1: in 1998, which is, I mean, 1988, which is just
[6:19] Speaker 1: three years after. And it's going great. but it ain't
[6:23] Speaker 1: the same, right? The homie Fink is still there playing
[6:26] Speaker 1: the keys, but it ain't the same band that it was.
[6:28] Speaker 1: You know what I mean? Like, the vibes, he's still
[6:32] Speaker 1: as good as he ever was, right? But the vibes,
[6:34] Speaker 1: they're not the same, right? Then you fast forward to
[6:37] Speaker 1: this concert in Tokyo, 1990, on the Nude Tour. And again,
[6:42] Speaker 1: we're not that far removed from absolute peak of powers.
[6:46] Speaker 1: And the songs are still good. He's still capable of
[6:49] Speaker 1: doing all kinds of things. After we watched the concert
[6:53] Speaker 1: from 1990, me and my brother pulled up, we were
[6:55] Speaker 1: talking about the song 17 Days, hashtag IYKYK, right? And
[6:59] Speaker 1: I was like, yo, I got this, there's a dope
[7:01] Speaker 1: video of Prince playing 17 Days at the Forum in 2011.
[7:07] Speaker 1: So he pulled that up, right? 17 Days goes, first
[7:12] Speaker 1: of all, right? That was why I pulled that up,
[7:14] Speaker 1: because it's, man has so much heat, he was just
[7:17] Speaker 1: throwing super heat on the B-sides. But anyway, so... Watch
[7:21] Speaker 1: this eight-minute version of 17 Days. And it's excellent. It's
[7:28] Speaker 1: absolutely excellent. The band is excellent. He's playing some dope-ass
[7:32] Speaker 1: funk licks on the guitar. All of it goes. But
[7:35] Speaker 1: my brother stops and he looks at me and he
[7:36] Speaker 1: makes the point. He's like, the thing is, he's plenty good,
[7:42] Speaker 1: but the light ain't there. Like, the light in 85
[7:48] Speaker 1: just shone so bright, right? But that light ain't there,
[7:57] Speaker 1: and you watch in 2011, and the light ain't the
[8:00] Speaker 1: same when you watch it in 1990 versus when it
[8:05] Speaker 1: was bright as it had ever been in 1985, right?
[8:11] Speaker 1: This is kind of the evolution for us, I would say,
[8:16] Speaker 1: of the Patrick Mahomes experience. Now, it's a little different
[8:19] Speaker 1: with the Mahomes experience because it really took a couple
[8:21] Speaker 1: years for the pressure to really get to crack like that.
[8:25] Speaker 1: But Mahomes walked in the door, and the light was
[8:27] Speaker 1: blowing us away. It's the reason why people like me
[8:29] Speaker 1: say he's the best quarterback that we've ever seen, right?
[8:34] Speaker 1: You're not going to convince me that he got worse,
[8:36] Speaker 1: but you're going to look out there. The band, it
[8:41] Speaker 1: ain't really the same band, right? In this case, where
[8:44] Speaker 1: I say you still see Fink and the Scrubs, You
[8:46] Speaker 1: still see Travis Kelsey out there in the uniform, but
[8:51] Speaker 1: it ain't the same band. They don't ascend to the
[8:55] Speaker 1: same highs, and subsequently, they don't push Mahomes to rise
[9:00] Speaker 1: to those highs in the way that you saw it
[9:04] Speaker 1: happen before, right? And so, I don't think 0-2 means
[9:10] Speaker 1: that the Chiefs are somehow not going to make the playoffs.
[9:13] Speaker 1: I still think they will. I know they're going to
[9:15] Speaker 1: be in a very difficult division and all those things.
[9:17] Speaker 1: But I think that they're still going to get it cracking.
[9:20] Speaker 1: I think they're going to get some players back. I
[9:23] Speaker 1: think some stuff will happen. I don't think they're an
[9:28] Speaker 1: excellent team. but I think they'll be okay. But in
[9:31] Speaker 1: terms as this matters to most of us as fans,
[9:34] Speaker 1: is that even if the Chiefs weren't your squad, unless
[9:37] Speaker 1: you were in the AFC West, you had to marvel
[9:40] Speaker 1: at the light, right? Like you had to marvel at
[9:43] Speaker 1: what the shine is. Like right now, the light off
[9:46] Speaker 1: of Josh Allen is crazy, right? The Lamar Jackson light
[9:51] Speaker 1: still goes crazy. I don't know if they got better
[9:56] Speaker 1: than Mahomes. I don't know if they would be doing
[9:58] Speaker 1: much different under the same circumstances. as Mahomes. But I
[10:02] Speaker 1: know the light don't shine as bright. And man, that
[10:05] Speaker 1: is not nearly as much fun over here. Especially since
[10:11] Speaker 1: I like to watch football with my buddy Nick. Now
[10:15] Speaker 1: I didn't watch this game with him. I don't even
[10:17] Speaker 1: know if he was over there.
[10:18] Speaker 4: Right?
[10:19] Speaker 1: But If they don't get this light going.
[10:22] Speaker 5: Or get something figured out, man, that's going to interfere
[10:25] Speaker 5: with my whole experience.
[10:26] Speaker 1: It ain't pleasant when that happens. You feel me? You
[10:29] Speaker 1: see what I'm saying? But that's what stuck. Like when
[10:33] Speaker 1: Ryan said it all looked like work and felt like work,
[10:35] Speaker 1: I was like, damn, yeah, I think that is the characterization.
[10:39] Speaker 1: And I think that's what we get here. And by
[10:40] Speaker 1: the way, the Eagles, it doesn't quite look the same.
[10:43] Speaker 1: Their offense did not look great. That Chiefs defense that
[10:46] Speaker 1: did not look good against San Diego, they were looking
[10:48] Speaker 1: pretty damn good against the Eagles because the Eagles, it's
[10:51] Speaker 1: a little bit different over there too. But they seem
[10:54] Speaker 1: to be in that we just going to find a
[10:56] Speaker 1: way to win space. And that is what happens when
[10:59] Speaker 1: any short yardage comes up and you know you got it.
[11:03] Speaker 1: I just can't imagine how dispirited it is when they
[11:06] Speaker 1: decide to run the booty push. I just can't. What
[11:11] Speaker 1: are we supposed to do? I have no idea. I
[11:14] Speaker 1: do have this question. Ryan, I was curious if anybody
[11:19] Speaker 1: else had thought this thing I'm going to say, even
[11:21] Speaker 1: though it's unlikely anybody else did. Okay. So you know
[11:26] Speaker 1: how I started off looking for a team, and then
[11:30] Speaker 1: I found the Lions, and I like what the Lions
[11:33] Speaker 1: were doing. And then I watched them more and more.
[11:35] Speaker 1: And then I didn't fully realize that I had truly
[11:38] Speaker 1: become a fan because when they went to the NFC
[11:40] Speaker 1: championship game, I was just happy they got there. It
[11:42] Speaker 1: didn't really hit me that the space that I had
[11:44] Speaker 1: gotten into to a goddamn JMO threw that ball away.
[11:49] Speaker 1: Remember that dude that got caught gambling at the team
[11:51] Speaker 1: facility with big brain being put the ball in his
[11:53] Speaker 1: hand and let him make an important decision at an
[11:55] Speaker 1: important time. It's my fist balled up. Okay. Um, let
[11:58] Speaker 1: me let that go. Right. But it was in that
[12:00] Speaker 1: moment that I realized, damn, I'm really in on this. Right.
[12:03] Speaker 1: So the Chiefs got all these new fans. Swifties, right?
[12:09] Speaker 1: They came in because they Swifties, right? They rooting for
[12:13] Speaker 1: the Chiefs because they rooting for Travis because it goes
[12:16] Speaker 1: back to they queen. It all goes together, right? But
[12:19] Speaker 1: I imagine the farther and farther along that this has gone,
[12:23] Speaker 1: some of them truly got into the Chiefs. You know
[12:27] Speaker 1: what I'm saying? Like some of them truly got became
[12:31] Speaker 1: fans and they really want the Chiefs to win and
[12:34] Speaker 1: they're really invested. You think any of them started cussing
[12:39] Speaker 1: at Travis Kelsey when they saw him on the TV?
[12:44] Speaker 3: When he dropped the go-ahead touchdown?
[12:46] Speaker 1: Hell yeah, when he dropped that go-ahead pass. Like, look,
[12:49] Speaker 1: that's the thing about the Chiefs in this game. If
[12:51] Speaker 1: you really want to give them the benefit of the doubt,
[12:53] Speaker 1: this really turns on just a couple of things, right?
[12:56] Speaker 6: Right.
[12:57] Speaker 1: Like, Kelsey does not drop that pass. They're probably, or
[13:00] Speaker 1: let's just say, forget about doesn't drop. Let's give him
[13:03] Speaker 1: a catch, right? Because it's part of it if he doesn't,
[13:05] Speaker 1: how many drops and it doesn't get intercepted. But, you know,
[13:08] Speaker 1: but if he catches that pass, they score that touchdown there.
[13:12] Speaker 1: And it's probably Nip and Tuck all the way there, right?
[13:15] Speaker 1: They went from probably going up four to then going down, what,
[13:19] Speaker 1: 10 when the ball got back the other way, right?
[13:23] Speaker 1: Somebody had to be furious for Travis Kelsey at that point, right? Like, yeah, yeah, yeah.
[13:29] Speaker 1: They're not Travis Kelsey fans. They're Taylor Swift fans, and
[13:32] Speaker 1: they became Chiefs fans forever. because of taylor swift but
[13:36] Speaker 1: then that still means he gotta do his part she
[13:39] Speaker 1: you think she's you think they want her to be
[13:42] Speaker 1: with a man that can't catch.
[13:46] Speaker 5: You know what i'm saying like the day might come
[13:47] Speaker 5: that she fall out of burning building or something like
[13:49] Speaker 5: that they're gonna need to know that he got hands
[13:51] Speaker 5: they're not happy with that somewhere there's a message board
[13:54] Speaker 5: on a dark web or something like that where the
[13:56] Speaker 5: real swifties are like hey man that motherfucker look old
[14:02] Speaker 5: There's somebody there that's feeling that way because Ryan, he
[14:06] Speaker 5: look old.
[14:07] Speaker 3: I mean, he is– I mean, we forget he's 35, 36,
[14:12] Speaker 3: and he looks like it out there. I mean, he
[14:14] Speaker 3: doesn't run the way he used to. And, you know,
[14:17] Speaker 3: when you start dropping balls at the goal line, obviously,
[14:19] Speaker 3: you know, you're not causing an interception. But he is
[14:22] Speaker 3: not making the plays that he's making. needs to make,
[14:25] Speaker 3: and as long as they're down their top two receivers,
[14:28] Speaker 3: that offense is going to keep looking like work.
[14:30] Speaker 1: Right, so the thing is, it's asking too much for
[14:32] Speaker 1: him to be dynamic.
[14:34] Speaker 6: Right.
[14:36] Speaker 1: But you do need him to be steady in the
[14:38] Speaker 1: face of what everything else is. I mean, their best
[14:41] Speaker 1: running threat in this game, without question, was Patrick Mahomes. Who,
[14:45] Speaker 1: by the way, I will note, I agreed with the
[14:48] Speaker 1: argument that him faking like he going out of bounds
[14:50] Speaker 1: and him hitting them cats with them shoulders was dirty poo.
[14:52] Speaker 1: But I don't know. He hit that, that, that, that, that, that,
[14:56] Speaker 1: that swole ass dude for the 49ers. What's his name? Mustafa.
[15:00] Speaker 1: He gave him that shoulder last year. And apparently this
[15:03] Speaker 1: is like his new thing. He gave somebody a shoulder
[15:05] Speaker 1: in this game too. Where I'm like, damn dog, you
[15:07] Speaker 1: don't even look like you lift weights.
[15:10] Speaker 3: You think he's trying to compensate for the dad bod?
[15:13] Speaker 1: Man, all I'm saying is this. In that case, it
[15:16] Speaker 1: ain't dad bod, it's dad strumpf. You know, like he just,
[15:20] Speaker 1: I'm not saying he don't lift weights. I just have
[15:22] Speaker 1: no reason to believe it. Like it looked like he
[15:24] Speaker 1: lift weights with Paul Pierce and Jokic. Right, I'm not
[15:28] Speaker 1: saying that they don't. I just don't, you know. You know,
[15:32] Speaker 1: like I always say, Jokic looked like he went to
[15:34] Speaker 1: the trainer With that picture of Tom Brady at the combine,
[15:36] Speaker 1: it was like.
[15:37] Speaker 3: Like one of these, yeah. This is my dream body.
[15:41] Speaker 1: Body goals, body goals right here. This is where they are.
[15:44] Speaker 1: But all right, so if the Chiefs.
[15:46] Speaker 1: Let's say the Chiefs are at this point. The Chiefs
[15:49] Speaker 1: are 0-2, all right? Let's say that they come out
[15:55] Speaker 1: of this weekend, because I think we got the Chargers
[15:57] Speaker 1: playing against the Texans on Monday night.
[16:00] Speaker 2: Chargers.
[16:01] Speaker 3: Yeah, Chargers-Raiders.
[16:03] Speaker 1: Chargers Raiders.
[16:05] Speaker 4: Okay.
[16:06] Speaker 1: Oh, the Texans. Oh, and the Texas. It's a Monday
[16:08] Speaker 1: night doubleheader in the second week of the year. I
[16:12] Speaker 1: thought that when they didn't do the doubleheader on week one,
[16:15] Speaker 1: I was like, oh, cool. Somebody finally got wise. Apparently
[16:20] Speaker 1: I was wrong. I'll let you think I'm staying up
[16:23] Speaker 1: to watch the Raiders and the Chargers. this is preposterous
[16:29] Speaker 1: they think we can do anything and i'm just talking
[16:31] Speaker 1: about me they'll come back up highest overnight rating ever.
[16:34] Speaker 3: Yeah i mean someone will watch it may just might
[16:37] Speaker 3: not be uh us on the east.
[16:39] Speaker 1: Coast yeah but right let me ask you this right
[16:43] Speaker 1: um five catches for 27 yards for aj brown how
[16:46] Speaker 1: much longer do you think that this is going to
[16:48] Speaker 1: be sustainable.
[16:50] Speaker 3: I don't i mean after he got one target last
[16:53] Speaker 3: week i i um if there's one thing i know
[16:56] Speaker 3: about um receive outspoken wide receivers. It's that they do
[17:01] Speaker 3: not suddenly become less outspoken as they get older.
[17:04] Speaker 1: They threw for 101 yards in this game. My bad.
[17:13] Speaker 1: It can't be that. No, it, it, it, it cannot
[17:17] Speaker 1: be that. Like again, a chiefs team whose defense we
[17:20] Speaker 1: have questions about coming off of week one. And I
[17:23] Speaker 1: guess we'll see what it is. for the rest of
[17:24] Speaker 1: the year. But I think the Eagles were this close
[17:28] Speaker 1: to us having all this talk that I'm doing about
[17:31] Speaker 1: the Chiefs about them.
[17:32] Speaker 2: Right. Right.
[17:33] Speaker 1: It was just there. But, yeah, no, no, no, no, no.
[17:36] Speaker 1: It ain't going to be so long that A.J. Brown
[17:37] Speaker 1: is going to be going for that. Devontae Smith, four
[17:39] Speaker 1: for 53 in this one. <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL>
[17:43] Speaker 1: I'm just telling you right now, they're going to need
[17:45] Speaker 1: to tighten some things up for them. But at least
[17:48] Speaker 1: they ain't going to have no angry Swifties going at them.
[17:56] Speaker 1: All right, another NFL story that is interesting to watch
[18:00] Speaker 1: is that boy Mike McDaniel, the head coach of the
[18:04] Speaker 1: Miami Dolphins, he needs to watch out. And here's why
[18:07] Speaker 1: he needs to watch out. NFL teams typically like to
[18:11] Speaker 1: wait until a bye week before they fire their coaches,
[18:14] Speaker 1: all right? The Dolphins don't have a bye week until
[18:20] Speaker 1: week 12. Week 12, okay? That means there's a chance
[18:29] Speaker 1: that they can fire Mike McDaniels at any given time. Ryan,
[18:33] Speaker 1: do we have this sound to try to explain how
[18:38] Speaker 1: it is that his wide receivers need to start running
[18:40] Speaker 1: so fast?
[18:40] Speaker 3: We do not, but it is not. He is. The
[18:44] Speaker 3: team seems to be in almost open revolt. I mean,
[18:46] Speaker 3: you had Tyreek on Friday going at a reporter for,
[18:51] Speaker 3: you know, asking him about why he hasn't had, you know,
[18:54] Speaker 3: more than a 30 yard catch in over a year.
[18:56] Speaker 1: Yes.
[18:57] Speaker 3: Him and Tua seem to genuinely hate each other. Mike
[19:00] Speaker 3: McDaniel looks miserable on the sidelines in a loss to
[19:02] Speaker 3: the Patriots, and it looks like he can go sideways
[19:05] Speaker 3: at any time.
[19:06] Speaker 1: All right, so look, Tyreek Hill is not as fast
[19:08] Speaker 1: as he used to be, right? But his quarterback stood
[19:11] Speaker 1: at the podium after the game and basically said that
[19:14] Speaker 1: he tells Jalen Waddell and Tyreek Hill, you know damn
[19:18] Speaker 1: well I can't throw the ball that far. So y'all
[19:20] Speaker 1: out here running 80 yards down the field, you know
[19:23] Speaker 1: I can't get that to you. Ho, ho, ho, ho, ho, ho, ho,
[19:27] Speaker 1: big dogs. Deontay Lee said, you don't need to be
[19:29] Speaker 1: this honest in front of people. But if your whole
[19:33] Speaker 1: game is being fast and running far and catching the
[19:36] Speaker 1: ball and you got a quarterback who can't do it,
[19:40] Speaker 1: although didn't Tyreek Hill say that Tua threw a better
[19:46] Speaker 1: ball than Patrick Mahomes? Didn't he do that? Yeah. I
[19:51] Speaker 1: bet they miss the hell out of each other, boy.
[19:53] Speaker 1: They like that commercial, that turn around every now and then.
[19:57] Speaker 1: You know that commercial right there? I bet you they
[20:00] Speaker 1: be thinking that about themselves. But anyway, I bring this
[20:03] Speaker 1: up about Mike McDaniel. I think he can get fired
[20:06] Speaker 1: at any time. Because if I'm learning anything from college football,
[20:10] Speaker 1: you really can get fired at any time. Like, look,
[20:14] Speaker 1: college football coaches have gotten fired early in seasons, but
[20:18] Speaker 1: it normally takes a lot. For example, the time that
[20:23] Speaker 1: Arkansas lost their first game of the season at home
[20:26] Speaker 1: to the Citadel in 1992, and they fired the coach
[20:30] Speaker 1: the same night. Right?
[20:33] Speaker 2: Right.
[20:34] Speaker 1: The same night you also have like the example of
[20:39] Speaker 1: when people was getting crooned ryan i think you're probably
[20:42] Speaker 1: too young to remember when people was out here getting crooned.
[20:46] Speaker 3: I remember that one yeah i remember yeah mississippi state sylvester.
[20:51] Speaker 1: Yes mississippi state hired sylvester crew the first black head
[20:54] Speaker 1: coach in the history of the southeastern conference and team
[20:56] Speaker 1: saying to have this Incredible coincidence of losing to Mississippi
[21:00] Speaker 1: State and then suddenly firing their coaches. The first one
[21:04] Speaker 1: of note was Ron Zook. And Jeremy Foley, the AD
[21:08] Speaker 1: at Florida, gave the all-time classic line, that which will
[21:11] Speaker 1: be done eventually must be done immediately. And he was right.
[21:15] Speaker 1: But Zook, for whatever it's worth, stuck around the rest
[21:17] Speaker 1: of the year. They hired Urban Meyer to win a
[21:19] Speaker 1: couple of national championships. All this stuff. Hey, man, Virginia
[21:22] Speaker 1: Tech lost to Old Dominion. which is an absolutely indefensible loss.
[21:26] Speaker 1: They fired their coach three weeks into the season. UCLA,
[21:31] Speaker 1: it's not just that they lost to New Mexico. They
[21:35] Speaker 1: lost to New Mexico, and it looked like 15 people
[21:38] Speaker 1: were at the game. And so Deshaun Foster's the head coach.
[21:42] Speaker 1: He just got fired, and it was never going to
[21:45] Speaker 1: go too well for him in the first place because...
[21:49] Speaker 1: they chip kelly moved on from that job in like
[21:53] Speaker 1: february of that year because he realized it was time
[21:56] Speaker 1: to get out ahead of the cavalry and i think
[21:58] Speaker 1: he just decided he didn't want to be a head
[21:59] Speaker 1: coach anymore he just wanted to call plays.
[22:01] Speaker 3: He left to be like i don't remember the i've
[22:04] Speaker 3: ever seen a head coach leave of their own volition
[22:06] Speaker 3: to be an oc.
[22:07] Speaker 1: Yes he just seems like that's how miserable he was
[22:10] Speaker 1: there yeah he didn't want to do that so then
[22:12] Speaker 1: you get the job late ucla as a program doesn't
[22:15] Speaker 1: have any money which certainly tells me that in terms
[22:18] Speaker 1: of getting players, they don't have any money, but they
[22:21] Speaker 1: didn't just lose to New Mexico. They got their asses
[22:24] Speaker 1: kicked by New Mexico, right? Like that was a, that was,
[22:28] Speaker 1: that's a job. That's a loss that gets you fired.
[22:32] Speaker 1: And Virginia coach, Virginia Tech lost to Old Dominion.
[22:35] Speaker 4: That's right.
[22:35] Speaker 1: It was Dabo that lost to Georgia Tech. My bad.
[22:37] Speaker 1: I almost got it mixed up. But anyway, they getting
[22:41] Speaker 1: them out of here faster than ever. Right now, one
[22:43] Speaker 1: thing about it is you get to coach out of there.
[22:46] Speaker 1: The transfer portal, if I'm not mistaken, opens up for
[22:49] Speaker 1: 30 days immediately after that. So teams are going to
[22:52] Speaker 1: try to stretch it out as long as they can.
[22:55] Speaker 1: But one of the fascinating things about college football to
[22:58] Speaker 1: me is that what is what is different for every
[23:02] Speaker 1: single team? What is tolerable? What is intolerable? All of
[23:05] Speaker 1: these things. None of it is the same for from
[23:08] Speaker 1: school to school. Right. Caleb DeBoer. Good job. Alabama beat
[23:11] Speaker 1: the Brakes. off of Wisconsin this week, doesn't matter, buddy.
[23:15] Speaker 1: You might as well have done that to Jacksonville State.
[23:17] Speaker 1: They got a different standard over there, right? Billy Napier
[23:20] Speaker 1: right now is lucky, coach at Florida, where he is,
[23:24] Speaker 1: I mean, he's under 500 going into year four of
[23:27] Speaker 1: this job, and that's not a job where you get
[23:29] Speaker 1: to have a losing record and typically, or have a
[23:31] Speaker 1: record like he does, and typically get this far. For me,
[23:36] Speaker 1: Charlie Strong is the great example of that, where I
[23:38] Speaker 1: thought he was handed that job in really bad time.
[23:41] Speaker 1: He got handed a bare cupboard, but no excuses are
[23:44] Speaker 1: ever going to allow you to have two straight losing
[23:47] Speaker 1: seasons at the University of Texas. It's not happening. You're
[23:49] Speaker 1: going to get fired, period.
[23:51] Speaker 3: Yeah, speaking of Florida, they still have to play Georgia, Texas, Miami,
[23:57] Speaker 3: and Florida State.
[23:59] Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah. For Napier, it's not if, but it's when. Right,
[24:07] Speaker 1: it's not going to get better. But think about this, right?
[24:10] Speaker 1: When I talk about how quirky it can be about
[24:12] Speaker 1: keeping your job and losing your job. They lost that
[24:15] Speaker 1: game to South Florida, right? After South Florida started the
[24:18] Speaker 1: season beating Boise State, they lost a close one to
[24:22] Speaker 1: South Florida, okay? South Florida was ranked number 18 going
[24:27] Speaker 1: into last week's game and then played Miami and got
[24:29] Speaker 1: their doors blown off. If South Florida had lost to Miami...
[24:34] Speaker 1: and then lost to Florida, I think Billy Napier gets fired. Instead...
[24:40] Speaker 1: Billy Napier simply took Florida to Death Valley at LSU
[24:45] Speaker 1: and lost by 10 points in a game with a
[24:47] Speaker 1: quarterback through five interceptions. And that is a survivable loss, right?
[24:52] Speaker 1: It's still LSU, right? People still think very, very highly
[24:57] Speaker 1: of them. That remained a survivable loss. And so he
[25:01] Speaker 1: could wind up keeping his job. I am still, though,
[25:04] Speaker 1: just simply blown away that the stakes of college football
[25:07] Speaker 1: have gotten so high. that Virginia Tech can't just ride
[25:12] Speaker 1: this out a little bit long. Like, with all due respect,
[25:17] Speaker 1: who do y'all think y'all are? I understand that Virginia
[25:24] Speaker 1: Tech has had a great deal of success a long
[25:27] Speaker 1: time ago.
[25:30] Speaker 3: Right.
[25:31] Speaker 1: OK, they might as well be army at this point
[25:33] Speaker 1: for a horseman of the apocalypse. You know what I'm saying?
[25:35] Speaker 1: Like that was a long time ago, but that's what
[25:37] Speaker 1: this has become. UCLA, look, you wind up in this situation,
[25:42] Speaker 1: especially when people stop showing up to the games, especially
[25:46] Speaker 1: at a school that needs the money. When people stop
[25:49] Speaker 1: showing up to the games, you got to do that
[25:50] Speaker 1: if you're UCLA. I just don't see what this is
[25:54] Speaker 1: actually going to help. at this point. Like, do you
[25:58] Speaker 1: think now that they fired the coach, all of a
[25:59] Speaker 1: sudden these boys that could not beat, that could not
[26:03] Speaker 1: beat New Mexico, you think all of a sudden they're
[26:06] Speaker 1: going to become a Big Ten capable school? Because they
[26:11] Speaker 1: might not win a game. I'll run the rest of
[26:13] Speaker 1: this schedule by you. They got a game this week
[26:16] Speaker 1: at Northwestern. After that, home for Penn State, at Michigan State,
[26:21] Speaker 1: home for Maryland, at Indiana, home for Nebraska, at Ohio State,
[26:26] Speaker 1: home for Washington at USC. They might not win another game.
[26:35] Speaker 1: And I could be wrong, but I feel like if
[26:37] Speaker 1: all you're going to do is lose all your games,
[26:39] Speaker 1: you might as well keep the same loser that you
[26:40] Speaker 1: started with.
[26:44] Speaker 2: Right?
[26:45] Speaker 1: Like, it also gets to the next question. Ryan, you
[26:47] Speaker 1: tell me if I'm tripping here, but I'm sure that
[26:49] Speaker 1: man got a buyout in his contract. If y'all ain't
[26:51] Speaker 1: got no money, can y'all just be throwing it around willy-nilly?
[26:55] Speaker 3: I just... I don't know how you win in a
[26:58] Speaker 3: major conference at UCLA. I don't know. The interesting thing
[27:03] Speaker 3: about college football, what you said, is every school has
[27:05] Speaker 3: a different standard. Every school has to figure out who
[27:08] Speaker 3: you want to be. How is UCLA ever going to
[27:10] Speaker 3: compete with Oregon and Ohio State and Michigan and Nebraska?
[27:16] Speaker 1: You didn't even say USC.
[27:18] Speaker 3: I didn't even get to USC across the street.
[27:21] Speaker 1: My thing is they are going to regret it. this
[27:24] Speaker 1: decision to go to the big 10 so much. And
[27:26] Speaker 1: I understand, I guess they're not going to regret it
[27:28] Speaker 1: because it was the only option, right? Like this was
[27:30] Speaker 1: the decision that was required for survival. And as a university,
[27:34] Speaker 1: like on an academic level, being part of the big 10,
[27:38] Speaker 1: that's the conference that means something in terms of academic reputation, right?
[27:41] Speaker 1: I get that all the way, but you're just not
[27:43] Speaker 1: going to tell me that this is going to be
[27:44] Speaker 1: any fun for them. Like everything that's changing in college sports,
[27:49] Speaker 1: it's making it all less fun. fun. It's making it
[27:53] Speaker 1: a lot more serious. It's making it a lot more professional. Now,
[27:57] Speaker 1: I want to be very clear about this. I have
[28:02] Speaker 1: always been a proponent of paying the players. I am
[28:05] Speaker 1: glad that they are finally getting money that is in
[28:07] Speaker 1: line with the market wage that they swore to us
[28:09] Speaker 1: for decades that nobody would ever pay it, that the
[28:12] Speaker 1: market would never bear out, and that they weren't actually
[28:14] Speaker 1: worth any money. And we have obviously seen that they
[28:16] Speaker 1: are worth this money.
[28:18] Speaker 3: And it would run off all the fans who somehow
[28:21] Speaker 3: would stop watching on television.
[28:23] Speaker 1: Correct, correct, right? Every argument they gave is none of
[28:26] Speaker 1: them hold. The part that we didn't say loud enough,
[28:30] Speaker 1: and I do, I can say, I did say this
[28:33] Speaker 1: in spite of what my belief is that they should
[28:34] Speaker 1: get paid, right? This is not fun. This is not,
[28:38] Speaker 1: this isn't going to be. what we've wanted it to be, right?
[28:41] Speaker 1: We don't know who plays for anybody anymore. The stakes
[28:44] Speaker 1: for the coaches are so high. As you're firing coaches
[28:47] Speaker 1: and firing them in week three and all of this,
[28:50] Speaker 1: this conference realignment has gone in such a way that
[28:53] Speaker 1: the conferences barely make any sense. So you don't get
[28:57] Speaker 1: any really true sense of rivalry because you don't play
[29:00] Speaker 1: enough games against teams that matter to you or that
[29:02] Speaker 1: your friends went to or stuff like that. All of
[29:05] Speaker 1: this is thrown off in a way that is not...
[29:11] Speaker 1: for me. But I do wonder this. What's it going
[29:15] Speaker 1: to be if schools like these make these decisions at
[29:18] Speaker 1: these rates? And as I say all of this and
[29:21] Speaker 1: how it's all gotten so serious to everybody else, I
[29:24] Speaker 1: admit the more that I talk, I've basically talked myself
[29:27] Speaker 1: into calling for Billy Napier's job this week. I'm not
[29:29] Speaker 1: saying that I think, I mean, look, he's going to
[29:31] Speaker 1: get paid. One thing I need to be very clear about,
[29:34] Speaker 1: you know, everybody's like, no, you don't need to call
[29:36] Speaker 1: for people's jobs, dot, dot, dot. Let me tell you something, man.
[29:39] Speaker 1: Every time I got fired from a job, the check stopped.
[29:42] Speaker 1: That ain't the case with these jokes. You know what
[29:44] Speaker 1: I'm saying?
[29:44] Speaker 3: Big boy jobs have big boy responsibilities.
[29:46] Speaker 1: Yeah, look, man, the problem with losing your job is
[29:48] Speaker 1: not losing your job, it's losing your check. If you
[29:51] Speaker 1: still got a check, I don't really understand what we
[29:54] Speaker 1: out here, well, your kids have to go through this.
[29:58] Speaker 1: Don't tell them then. You ever think about that? Little kid,
[30:02] Speaker 1: three years old. He's seven years old. The kids at
[30:05] Speaker 1: school are saying that his daddy got fired. Tell him
[30:07] Speaker 1: daddy's still getting paid. Daddy going to pull up to
[30:09] Speaker 1: school in a Rolls Royce. Ask him if they daddies
[30:13] Speaker 1: got Rolls Royces working 60 hours a week. Hell no,
[30:16] Speaker 1: I bet they don't. You know what I'm saying? But
[30:20] Speaker 1: this is what it is going to be. Mike McDaniel,
[30:24] Speaker 1: you better hope that Stephen Ross is not paying attention
[30:27] Speaker 1: to what is going on in college sports, because he
[30:30] Speaker 1: might mess around and get a bright idea. Football is back,

[33:14] Speaker 3: All right, let's get to some stories from around the weekend.
[33:16] Speaker 3: Terrence Crawford defeated Canelo Alvarez for a historic undisputed crown.
[33:21] Speaker 3: You won on a unanimous decision. He became 42-0 and
[33:25] Speaker 3: became the first mailbox in the four-belt era to be
[33:27] Speaker 3: undisputed champion three weight classes. Bo, were you surprised by
[33:31] Speaker 3: the result?
[33:33] Speaker 1: I was. I don't know if I was surprised by
[33:36] Speaker 1: the result. Yes, I was, because I felt like going
[33:38] Speaker 1: up that high in weight class, like going up that
[33:40] Speaker 1: high in weight as Crawford did, was a daunting task
[33:44] Speaker 1: for him to perform. But it was a clear victory
[33:49] Speaker 1: on top of that. I don't think anybody could have
[33:52] Speaker 1: fairly come away from that thinking that when it went
[33:55] Speaker 1: to the cards that Canelo had any chance once it
[33:58] Speaker 1: got that far. I want to ask this question, and
[34:02] Speaker 1: I'm going to ask it on behalf of I feel
[34:06] Speaker 1: like all of us. I don't even think that we
[34:09] Speaker 1: can split this up into different demographics. I think this
[34:13] Speaker 1: is an across the board feeling. What took so long?
[34:15] Speaker 1: And when I say what took so long, this is
[34:18] Speaker 1: what I mean. I know why I fell asleep on
[34:21] Speaker 1: my couch, but I don't remember what time I fell
[34:24] Speaker 1: asleep on my couch. But I remember I woke up
[34:27] Speaker 1: on my couch and it was somewhere around 1130, maybe
[34:31] Speaker 1: close to 12. And I look up and I see
[34:35] Speaker 1: some dude wearing garb patterned after the Mexican flag and
[34:40] Speaker 1: he was coming to the ring, but he wasn't no
[34:43] Speaker 1: Canelo Alvarez. And then after he gets to the ring,
[34:48] Speaker 1: it's some dude from Ireland who gets in the ring.
[34:51] Speaker 1: And I'm like, wait a minute. It's about to be midnight.
[34:56] Speaker 1: I was afraid that I had slept through the fight.
[35:00] Speaker 1: It's about to be midnight and it's the fight before
[35:04] Speaker 1: the fight. That fight did not start until one o'clock
[35:08] Speaker 1: in the morning Eastern time. It cannot, who voted for this?
[35:15] Speaker 3: If they want to fix boxing, there's many things they
[35:18] Speaker 3: can do and it seems like they're very, there are
[35:21] Speaker 3: clearly resources between the Saudis and Dana White trying to
[35:24] Speaker 3: fix it. The first thing they can do is start
[35:27] Speaker 3: these fights at a reasonable hour.
[35:28] Speaker 1: Yeah, not that late. Look, I'm willing to go like 11,
[35:30] Speaker 1: even 12. Like, I get it. You're having the fight
[35:32] Speaker 1: on the West Coast. Like, oh my God, I could
[35:35] Speaker 1: not believe that fight took so long. I will also
[35:37] Speaker 1: say it did feel a bit dystopian seeing Dana White
[35:40] Speaker 1: and that Saudi man sitting there front row watching. Like,
[35:44] Speaker 1: it was a lot going on. That was like, ugh,
[35:46] Speaker 1: like under the heading of I'm not sure this is
[35:49] Speaker 1: making things better. But let me tell you this. One
[35:53] Speaker 1: of the homies was down there in Vegas for that fight.
[35:56] Speaker 1: And he said it was as dead a fight weekend
[36:00] Speaker 1: as there had ever been. And this is the Mexican
[36:03] Speaker 1: Independence Day weekend fight that has been a sure shot
[36:07] Speaker 1: for the boxing industry and for Las Vegas as anything
[36:10] Speaker 1: has ever been. And he said that Vegas felt dead.
[36:13] Speaker 1: I am saying all that to say that sound like
[36:16] Speaker 1: a session is coming.
[36:18] Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, there's been a lot of stories about,
[36:21] Speaker 3: you know, The recent decline of Vegas and people with
[36:24] Speaker 3: the rise of gambling and the amount of private equity
[36:28] Speaker 3: that's trying to squeeze every dollar of every Vegas tourist
[36:32] Speaker 3: that people have become less and less interested in. It's
[36:35] Speaker 3: interesting that as Vegas is trying to become a big
[36:38] Speaker 3: event town, those things seem to be in conflict.
[36:41] Speaker 1: So I would say– and this is my thought. I
[36:45] Speaker 1: think that this speaks– Part of it is price stuff,
[36:48] Speaker 1: but I think it just speaks to an overall economy
[36:50] Speaker 1: level thing. And also foreign tourism, right? You're afraid the
[36:55] Speaker 1: ice gun comes sweeping these streets. That is a consideration.
[36:59] Speaker 1: But the Zoomers were making the argument that they were
[37:03] Speaker 1: the ones that was causing the drop off in Vegas
[37:05] Speaker 1: because they don't like it because it's inauthentic and da-da-da
[37:07] Speaker 1: and all of this stuff. But if you never went,
[37:09] Speaker 1: you aren't the reason for the fall off, right? I
[37:12] Speaker 1: would think that a... special event, but a regular special event, right?
[37:19] Speaker 1: Like a fight is different than Labor Day or just
[37:22] Speaker 1: a holiday weekend.
[37:23] Speaker 3: I would think that- Because the Super Bowl a couple
[37:26] Speaker 3: of years ago didn't feel dead.
[37:27] Speaker 1: Oh no, it wasn't dead at all. It was not
[37:29] Speaker 1: dead at all. But I would have thought that a
[37:31] Speaker 1: fight like this, it would have cracked no matter what.
[37:33] Speaker 1: And it's not. And like I say, that is, we
[37:36] Speaker 1: are getting lots of harbingers for this economy, including the
[37:39] Speaker 1: one that said that the economy in like the last
[37:41] Speaker 1: year actually created a million less jobs or something like that.
[37:45] Speaker 1: Then advertise.
[37:48] Speaker 3: All right, let's get to college football. We talked about
[37:53] Speaker 3: this earlier, but LSU beat Florida 20 to 10, forcing
[37:57] Speaker 3: five interceptions. However, Brian Kelly was not happy after the result.
[38:01] Speaker 3: Let's take a listen. I know you love these immediate
[38:04] Speaker 3: postgame sessions, but what are you seeing with your offense?
[38:07] Speaker 1: Stop. Really?
[38:09] Speaker 7: Is that the first question? We won the game 20
[38:11] Speaker 7: to 10. Try another question. What do you want me
[38:14] Speaker 7: to tell you? I just laid it out for you.
[38:17] Speaker 7: We played the game to win the game. We played
[38:21] Speaker 7: the game to win the game.
[38:23] Speaker 2: All right.
[38:23] Speaker 3: How about third down? What is going on with third down?
[38:26] Speaker 1: It's one game.
[38:28] Speaker 7: Last game, we were great on third down. You're micro.
[38:32] Speaker 7: You're looking at this from the wrong perspective. LSU won
[38:36] Speaker 7: the football game, won the game. I don't know what
[38:39] Speaker 7: you want from me. What do you want? You want
[38:42] Speaker 7: us to win 70 to nothing against Florida?
[38:45] Speaker 1: People don't like Brian Kelly. I.
[38:49] Speaker 3: As an LSU fan, I underestimated how much people did
[38:51] Speaker 3: not like Brian Kelly until he got there. And it
[38:56] Speaker 3: is worse to four years in than it was in
[38:58] Speaker 3: terms of people not liking him.
[39:01] Speaker 1: I knew it off the rip because I just paid
[39:03] Speaker 1: a lot of attention to the Notre Dame situation. And again,
[39:07] Speaker 1: one of the wildest things ever. he didn't bring a
[39:11] Speaker 1: single assistant with him from Notre Dame to LSU. Like,
[39:15] Speaker 1: that is.
[39:15] Speaker 3: That never happens.
[39:16] Speaker 1: Yeah, however that happens, that is crazy. However, I think
[39:21] Speaker 1: that everything that involves Brian Kelly doing something we don't
[39:24] Speaker 1: like is obviously colored by the fact that people don't
[39:27] Speaker 1: like him in the first place.
[39:29] Speaker 2: But in.
[39:30] Speaker 1: in this case, asking the third down questions with the
[39:35] Speaker 1: first question at the press conference, if your goal was
[39:40] Speaker 1: to get a thoughtful answer, was bad strategy. One could
[39:45] Speaker 1: even argue it was bad form. But if you were
[39:47] Speaker 1: trying to get Brian Kelly to engage you and give
[39:50] Speaker 1: you something illuminating about those struggles, that was not the
[39:55] Speaker 1: time to do it. The reporter also sent a tweet
[39:57] Speaker 1: after that said, maybe I shouldn't have asked off the gate,
[40:02] Speaker 1: out the gate, but it had to be asked or whatever,
[40:06] Speaker 1: which is absolutely you reporters centering yourself in this story here,
[40:11] Speaker 1: which is the kind of thing that makes people standing
[40:14] Speaker 1: at microphones talk crazy to you. Right? Like, I just,
[40:18] Speaker 1: I just, I just, there are fair questions to be asked.
[40:23] Speaker 3: Especially for someone like Brian Kelly, who's known to say
[40:25] Speaker 3: crazy things at these post-game references. This is correct.
[40:27] Speaker 1: This is correct, right? I think it is a fair
[40:29] Speaker 1: question to say that a team that won at home
[40:34] Speaker 1: by 10 points against a team that looks bad and
[40:36] Speaker 1: threw five interceptions. maybe you should have won by more
[40:39] Speaker 1: than 10 points, right? Like this is it. And also
[40:42] Speaker 1: the new penny shine is off of that Clemson win.
[40:45] Speaker 1: Now that Clemson has lost to Georgia tech. Okay. I
[40:49] Speaker 1: get all of those things, but I also acknowledge there
[40:54] Speaker 1: was a better way to go about doing that in
[40:58] Speaker 1: that moment, but nobody, nobody is going to weep for Brian.
[41:03] Speaker 3: All right, but let's have a little bit more fun. Um,
[41:06] Speaker 3: Calypse and Pharrell played a free show at the Vatican.
[41:11] Speaker 3: Star-studded lineup of artists, including Jennifer Hudson, Bam Bam, Joe Roll,
[41:17] Speaker 3: and John Legend. Bo, what were your thoughts when you
[41:20] Speaker 3: saw this news?
[41:21] Speaker 1: I had two thoughts on this. Number one, you can't
[41:24] Speaker 1: even go to the Holy Land of Europe without goddamn
[41:31] Speaker 1: Jelly Roll being there. Jelly Roll is everywhere. I can't, like.
[41:36] Speaker 3: Culturally ubiquitous in a way that I thought would never
[41:39] Speaker 3: be possible.
[41:39] Speaker 1: Yes, and I've never heard a Jelly Roll song. I
[41:42] Speaker 1: have seen Jelly... I mean, like, Jelly Roll songs I
[41:45] Speaker 1: have heard are not this incarnation of Jelly Roll, right? It's, like,
[41:49] Speaker 1: the more, like, hip-hop-ish. Although I don't even know what
[41:54] Speaker 1: Jelly Roll does right now. I've just seen Jelly Roll
[41:56] Speaker 1: tell everybody that Jesus loves them. And after that, Jelly
[42:00] Speaker 1: Roll is everywhere. Jelly Roll everywhere... I remember once I
[42:05] Speaker 1: was at the Super Bowl, not Super Bowl, All-Star Game
[42:08] Speaker 1: in New Orleans in 2014. And I did Dan Levitard's
[42:12] Speaker 1: radio show. After I'd done that, I come back and
[42:16] Speaker 1: I was saying something. I was like, so I went
[42:18] Speaker 1: to this event and I said who the sponsor of
[42:20] Speaker 1: the event was. And I said to Mike Ryan, I said,
[42:25] Speaker 1: and guess who was at the party? He was like,
[42:26] Speaker 1: I don't know. I was like, who's everywhere? And he goes,
[42:29] Speaker 1: Kevin Hart. I was like, Kevin Hart was at the party.
[42:31] Speaker 1: That was exactly who it was because in 2014, Kevin
[42:34] Speaker 1: Hart was everywhere. That's how Jelly Roll feel right now.
[42:38] Speaker 1: All that being said, I just can't. Booking clips at
[42:44] Speaker 1: the Vatican. I struggle with this. What is the set list?
[42:49] Speaker 1: What songs are they going to... Who vetted this?
[42:52] Speaker 3: I know the new Pope is from Chicago, but is
[42:55] Speaker 3: this the kind of music he listens to?
[42:56] Speaker 1: Yo, who clears this? I'm assuming they're going to have
[43:00] Speaker 1: to play edited mixes?
[43:03] Speaker 3: I just.
[43:06] Speaker 3: Who is this for?
[43:08] Speaker 1: That is a great question because the bill is all
[43:11] Speaker 1: over the place. Run through again, who's going to be there?
[43:14] Speaker 3: It was Pharrell, Jennifer Hudson, Jelly Roll, Quips and Teddy Swims.
[43:22] Speaker 1: Ah, Teddy Swims. I saw him on the New Year's
[43:24] Speaker 1: TV show one time. I know nothing about him.
[43:28] Speaker 3: I know nothing about him either. I think Post Malone...
[43:31] Speaker 3: Did Post Malone say no? Or was Post Malone... Talk
[43:36] Speaker 3: about someone who also seems to be everywhere.
[43:38] Speaker 1: Yo, Post Malone. I think I've talked about this on
[43:43] Speaker 1: this show. I want to know what the moment is
[43:47] Speaker 1: that you get you a white rapper, and then finally
[43:50] Speaker 1: somebody hands him that acoustic guitar, and it's like, why
[43:56] Speaker 1: don't you start being serious about your life, huh?
[43:59] Speaker 2: Right?
[44:00] Speaker 1: Like, it's time for you to, what did the Bible say?
[44:03] Speaker 1: It's time for you to put away childish things.
[44:07] Speaker 5: Come come come over here come over here son.
[44:15] Speaker 3: Over here and let's start playing some balance.
[44:17] Speaker 1: Yeah pull your fucking pants up and let's go get
[44:19] Speaker 1: this money uh.
[44:21] Speaker 3: Sports illustrated model brooks nader was seemed to be having
[44:24] Speaker 3: a great time at the u.s open he she was
[44:26] Speaker 3: dating both alcariz and sinner according to page six you
[44:31] Speaker 3: know they obviously faced off in the U.S. open file,
[44:35] Speaker 3: and were apparently dating the same woman.
[44:38] Speaker 1: Okay. I am very curious as to whether or not
[44:42] Speaker 1: they knew they were dating the same woman. Right? I
[44:46] Speaker 1: don't have the answer. That part would be interesting, but
[44:51] Speaker 1: I am also... I feel like... I wonder how much
[44:57] Speaker 1: she knows about Don King. Okay, so this is what
[45:02] Speaker 1: I mean. Don King had a rule about doing fights.
[45:09] Speaker 1: Always leave in the limo with the champ. Maybe that
[45:17] Speaker 1: was her play, right? Maybe that was her game. Is
[45:20] Speaker 1: it possible?
[45:22] Speaker 3: Look, you can't not leave with a champ if you're
[45:24] Speaker 3: dating both of them.
[45:25] Speaker 1: That's what I'm saying. That's what I'm saying. She always leaves.
[45:27] Speaker 1: She's like a fight promoter, right? Like she got, she
[45:30] Speaker 1: takes care of both sides. It's like real estate to her.
[45:32] Speaker 1: I wonder like, do they both, did they both leave
[45:34] Speaker 1: her tickets at the window? Right? Or did she at
[45:37] Speaker 1: least have the decency to be like, nah, I'm gonna
[45:39] Speaker 1: be busy that weekend. I can't just be in here.
[45:42] Speaker 1: Can you imagine if you looked up into your box
[45:46] Speaker 1: And you thought she was going to be there. You're like, huh,
[45:48] Speaker 1: I wonder what that's about. And then you happen to
[45:50] Speaker 1: look over into the other box and that's where she's at.
[45:56] Speaker 1: And then you win and she leave the other box
[45:59] Speaker 1: and come try to get next to you. And you
[46:02] Speaker 1: know damn well you're going to go for it.
[46:06] Speaker 4: Wow.
[46:08] Speaker 1: Props to her. Props to her. We need to get
[46:11] Speaker 1: a TV show with her and Jordan Hudson and find
[46:13] Speaker 1: out who else out here. Like, she out here, she
[46:15] Speaker 1: coiled a ray, and girls are players, too. She got
[46:19] Speaker 1: all the gang.
[46:25] Speaker 3: All right, we've opened up the voicemail line. You know,
[46:28] Speaker 3: people hitting us up with all sorts of things. Great responses,
[46:32] Speaker 3: as always. Here's our first one.
[46:34] Speaker 2: Hey, Beaumonti, this is Jimmy from Chicago. I just want
[46:39] Speaker 2: to say thank you, bro. I've been following you for
[46:42] Speaker 2: a long time. I just want to say thank you.
[46:45] Speaker 2: I cut hair in Chicago. And one of the talks
[46:50] Speaker 2: in my barbershop, one of the debates, is Scottie Pippen overrated.
[46:59] Speaker 2: And I just want to say thank you because it
[47:01] Speaker 2: seems like you're the only person that seems to have it.
[47:06] Speaker 2: I don't know why people have this misconception that this
[47:10] Speaker 2: dude is clutch, that I had a guy bet me
[47:17] Speaker 2: that Scotty averaged 20 points for his career. Easiest money
[47:22] Speaker 2: I ever made. Oh, let me take that back. I
[47:25] Speaker 2: had a dude bet me that Scotty scored more points
[47:30] Speaker 2: for his career than Dominique Williams. I can't make this
[47:33] Speaker 2: shit up, but why? I just want to say thank you.
[47:36] Speaker 2: I don't know what these people changed the narrative on
[47:39] Speaker 2: Scottie Pippen. As a defender, I'll say I'm grateful. But
[47:45] Speaker 2: overall player, come on, man. This dude was a choke artist. Supreme.
[47:55] Speaker 2: Anytime they need a big presence from him. 9 times
[48:01] Speaker 2: out of 10.
[48:01] Speaker 1: Y'all.
[48:05] Speaker 2: Cheeks, basically. Now, he's picking his reasons to this day
[48:08] Speaker 2: that I'm going to send Antonio Spurs there because of
[48:11] Speaker 2: game seven against the Pistons in the migraine. After that game,
[48:16] Speaker 2: I stopped rooting for the Bulls and stopped rooting for
[48:18] Speaker 2: the Spurs. Like I said, I just want to say
[48:21] Speaker 2: thank you, Bomani. I know the people at home when
[48:24] Speaker 2: they hear it, they know exactly who this is. And
[48:29] Speaker 2: I don't like no Chicago teams. And I'm from Chicago
[48:32] Speaker 2: born and raised. Take care.
[48:34] Speaker 4: Later.
[48:35] Speaker 1: Yeah, I do have to say, though, right, ditching the
[48:38] Speaker 1: Bulls in 1990 to pick up the Spurs, like, it
[48:42] Speaker 1: just needed to wait one more year.
[48:44] Speaker 3: Yeah, it just had to wait.
[48:47] Speaker 1: The bus was right down there. It was coming for you.
[48:51] Speaker 3: You know, selling your Apple stock.
[48:53] Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah.
[48:54] Speaker 1: But no, man, that Scottie thing, man, it is. Only
[48:58] Speaker 1: people think Scottie is overrated or underrated. There's no room.
[49:02] Speaker 1: in between on that. It's the only two spaces that
[49:05] Speaker 1: you have. Scottie overrated or Scottie underrated. That is it.
[49:08] Speaker 1: That is. And barbershop, I think I told you, man,
[49:11] Speaker 1: when I moved to Miami, that's when I cut my
[49:13] Speaker 1: hair off because I was like, man, I can't get
[49:15] Speaker 1: involved with no new barbershop conversations yeah it's a re-bob.
[49:19] Speaker 3: Yeah you know you can only hear so many uh
[49:22] Speaker 3: your brain always space for so many takes yeah.
[49:24] Speaker 1: I tapped out i was tapped out i was like
[49:25] Speaker 1: especially now that i'm a quote-unquote somebody nah man i
[49:28] Speaker 1: had to uh i had to tap out on that entirely.
[49:31] Speaker 3: All right here's one of our listeners from uh international waters.
[49:37] Speaker 6: Hi, Mr. Balmari Jones. How are you doing, sir? It's
[49:40] Speaker 6: Emmanuel Cooley from London. Big fan of the podcast for
[49:44] Speaker 6: many years. I find your talks expensable, particularly in flight, fallout,
[49:49] Speaker 6: so on, from a boy who doesn't really understand or
[49:52] Speaker 6: doesn't have that in-depth knowledge.
[49:53] Speaker 3: Of American culture.
[49:54] Speaker 6: Just a real eye-opener to how things go on. Yeah,
[49:58] Speaker 6: so my question was, I often hear you refer to
[50:02] Speaker 6: someone being an Atlanta dude. I think it was Anthony
[50:05] Speaker 6: Edwards you described him that way. or your conversation with
[50:08] Speaker 6: Elle Duncan, I think you mentioned something being so Atlanta.
[50:12] Speaker 6: I'm just curious, what exactly is meant by that? My
[50:16] Speaker 6: only real understanding of it was once where I was
[50:18] Speaker 6: at a school trip with some kids from abroad, and
[50:22] Speaker 6: there was this one guy or one kid from Atlanta
[50:25] Speaker 6: who couldn't be an older, like nine, maybe 10. He
[50:29] Speaker 6: had the gumption to go up to a grown-ass woman
[50:32] Speaker 6: and essentially speak to her when most of us are
[50:34] Speaker 6: too scared to speak to girls our own age.
[50:36] Speaker 3: So I think I've got.
[50:37] Speaker 6: Early understanding of it, but I just really like your
[50:40] Speaker 6: description of what's meant by an Atlanta dude or something
[50:43] Speaker 6: we saw at Atlanta in a bit more detail. But
[50:45] Speaker 6: genuinely and truly, I just want to say thank you
[50:47] Speaker 6: for all the hard work you do and for being
[50:50] Speaker 6: so great.
[50:52] Speaker 1: First of all, thank you, my brother. I appreciate you.
[50:55] Speaker 1: And wow, I am trying to think of the ways
[50:58] Speaker 1: to explain this in terms that somebody from London would
[51:01] Speaker 1: fully understand. Okay. So the thing about Atlanta is at
[51:05] Speaker 1: least at this point in America, there is no city
[51:09] Speaker 1: that at its median is now more culturally black than
[51:16] Speaker 1: Atlanta is.
[51:16] Speaker 2: Right.
[51:17] Speaker 1: Like, like it, it's, it's nothing else. I can't. So
[51:22] Speaker 1: that is a part of it.
[51:23] Speaker 3: Right.
[51:24] Speaker 1: Is a, and then it comes to the question, well,
[51:26] Speaker 1: what does it mean to be culturally black? Look, man,
[51:28] Speaker 1: that's this, I ain't got words for everything.
[51:31] Speaker 2: Right.
[51:31] Speaker 1: But specifically with Anthony Edwards, it is the specific accent
[51:35] Speaker 1: with which he speaks. It is his diction, like the
[51:39] Speaker 1: specific words that he chooses at various points. It is
[51:43] Speaker 1: a certain air of I always say the thing about
[51:46] Speaker 1: Atlanta dudes like him. is that you can tell that
[51:49] Speaker 1: there's an air of an awareness of a larger world,
[51:53] Speaker 1: even if there's not quite a familiarity with it. But
[51:57] Speaker 1: with him, it is the outright confidence that I never
[52:00] Speaker 1: have to edit this. I never have to change this.
[52:03] Speaker 1: Because that's one thing about it. If you're really an
[52:05] Speaker 1: Atlanta dude and you're always around it, you don't really
[52:08] Speaker 1: have to change how you kick it very much. There's
[52:10] Speaker 1: an understanding that there's just a bunch of y'all who
[52:12] Speaker 1: kick it like this. Anthony Edwards has taken that with
[52:15] Speaker 1: him to Minnesota. But if I took you to Atlanta
[52:18] Speaker 1: and let you hang out for a day and a half,
[52:20] Speaker 1: you would understand what I was talking about. Putting it
[52:22] Speaker 1: into words, more difficult than I realized it would be
[52:25] Speaker 1: until you asked.
[52:26] Speaker 3: I would recommend if you want to understand what it
[52:29] Speaker 3: means to be so Atlanta, I would say go listen
[52:31] Speaker 3: to clips from Cam Newton's podcast.
[52:33] Speaker 1: That helps. That's a start.
[52:36] Speaker 3: If I was putting together a syllabus, that's where I
[52:39] Speaker 3: would start. All right, Bo, here's our last one.
[52:42] Speaker 4: Hey, Ramani, my question is, have you ever had a
[52:45] Speaker 4: homie who didn't have good hygiene or his homegirl didn't
[52:49] Speaker 4: have good hygiene? I remember one of my homies.
[52:53] Speaker 2: Girl, well, before they was even dating, he.
[52:57] Speaker 4: Knew that she had bad hygiene. And then they got together.
[53:01] Speaker 4: My first question was like, hey, has her hygiene changed?
[53:04] Speaker 4: And he was like, yeah, she good. And then she
[53:07] Speaker 4: came over to the house one time, and she smelled terrible.
[53:13] Speaker 4: And I tried to tell my homie, hey, bro, you
[53:15] Speaker 4: need to tell your girl about her hygiene. And he said,
[53:18] Speaker 4: ain't nothing wrong with it. So this man was in denial.
[53:23] Speaker 4: Has it ever happened to you? It's Cordae from the Bay.
[53:28] Speaker 4: All right.
[53:28] Speaker 1: So I used to have a homie that was a
[53:30] Speaker 1: little bit musty. And one time, me and my best
[53:33] Speaker 1: friend went to kick it with this other homie. And
[53:36] Speaker 1: we was about to roll out. And he was like, yo,
[53:39] Speaker 1: I was going to take a shower. But I ain't musty,
[53:42] Speaker 1: so be cool. And then he walked out. They're my
[53:44] Speaker 1: best friend. And anybody who knows Will knows exactly how
[53:48] Speaker 1: he sounded. He was like, bro, I don't know what
[53:50] Speaker 1: your boy is talking about because he is rank. And
[53:54] Speaker 1: he was. He was rank. The thing is, brother, that's
[53:57] Speaker 1: when I was like 15 or 16. I ain't kicking
[54:02] Speaker 1: it with nobody musty in a musty.
[54:04] Speaker 4: No.
[54:05] Speaker 7: No.
[54:05] Speaker 4: No.
[54:09] Speaker 1: Unfortunately, brother, I don't have any advice for you other
[54:13] Speaker 1: than evaluate things. Lots of them. All of them. Yeah. Hey, man,

[54:54] Speaker 1: couple of days. Take it easy.
