[0:05] Speaker 1: Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the right time, a wave original.
[0:09] Speaker 1: My name is Beaumont Jones. Thanks for listening wherever you
[0:11] Speaker 1: get your podcast. Thanks for watching us on YouTube. Subscribe, like,
[0:16] Speaker 1: rate us, review us, give us five stars. You only
[0:18] Speaker 1: give us four stars. I'm inclined to believe you are
[0:21] Speaker 1: a hater. We will get to the madness of college
[0:24] Speaker 1: football playoff, which is not like March madness, because when
[0:27] Speaker 1: we say that, it's charming. When we talk about college
[0:30] Speaker 1: football madness, because them motherfuckers is crazy. But anyway, Chiefs
[0:36] Speaker 1: played the Texans Sunday night. The Chiefs lost to the
[0:39] Speaker 1: Texans Sunday night. The Chiefs are now 20 and, excuse me,
[0:44] Speaker 1: the game was 20 to 10. The Chiefs are now
[0:46] Speaker 1: six and seven right there with the Baltimore Ravens. Put
[0:50] Speaker 1: a pin in that thought. The Chiefs are somehow in
[0:54] Speaker 1: 10th place in the conference. And the reason that they
[0:57] Speaker 1: are in 10th place in the conference, which I didn't
[0:59] Speaker 1: understand because they were there with the Ravens, who what
[1:02] Speaker 1: I'm looking at said ninth place, but I'm like, but wait,
[1:06] Speaker 1: The Chiefs beat the Ravens in week one. And no,
[1:09] Speaker 1: that's because the Ravens and the Chiefs also have the
[1:12] Speaker 1: same record as the Miami Dolphins. That's right. That's where
[1:19] Speaker 1: they down there at right now, right? They down there
[1:22] Speaker 1: with the Dolphins, who I will be perfectly honest with
[1:25] Speaker 1: you guys. I completely forgot about. Like, I didn't think
[1:31] Speaker 1: that they got contracted.
[1:33] Speaker 2: Right?
[1:34] Speaker 1: Like, I didn't think that they weren't in the league anymore.
[1:38] Speaker 1: But you know, sometimes you just don't think about somebody
[1:40] Speaker 1: for a long time. People are like, oh damn, I
[1:41] Speaker 1: forgot that person even existed.
[1:43] Speaker 2: Especially when Tyreek Hill got hurt.
[1:45] Speaker 1: Yeah.
[1:46] Speaker 2: Then they disappeared from the Zeitgeist.
[1:48] Speaker 1: We didn't stop talking about them. Like, once we realized
[1:51] Speaker 1: they weren't going to fire... Might be Daniel. Might be Daniel.
[1:54] Speaker 1: I'll be honest with you. I don't know if two
[1:56] Speaker 1: are hurt or not. Like, I mean, at any given day,
[1:58] Speaker 1: it could be different. I'm assuming that he's out there playing. And,
[2:01] Speaker 1: of course, part of why I don't know anything about
[2:04] Speaker 1: them is I haven't noticed that they won four games
[2:06] Speaker 1: in a row. You know why I haven't noticed that
[2:09] Speaker 1: they won four games in a row? Yeah. One of
[2:11] Speaker 1: them was against the Bills. The rest... was against Cheeks, Ass,
[2:18] Speaker 1: and Boo Boo. Yes, there we go. The Commandos, the Saints,
[2:23] Speaker 1: and the Jets. That is who they were out there against.
[2:26] Speaker 1: But yeah, that's the company that the Chiefs keep right now.
[2:31] Speaker 1: They're just not good. And they are not good in
[2:36] Speaker 1: a way that happens from time to time. In football,
[2:41] Speaker 1: I don't... I don't think it so much happens as
[2:43] Speaker 1: much in baseball, though I guess it happens in stretches
[2:46] Speaker 1: in baseball, and it's just not the way that basketball works.
[2:51] Speaker 1: But the Chiefs are bad, but the players aren't. You
[2:57] Speaker 1: understand what I'm saying? Like, if you were to point
[3:00] Speaker 1: at the roster or point at, like, stats and stuff
[3:02] Speaker 1: like that, generally speaking, we don't really have an answer.
[3:06] Speaker 1: So why is it that they're bad? Like, what is
[3:09] Speaker 1: your explanation for why it is that they're bad? And
[3:12] Speaker 1: the answer is, they are. Coming into this week, Ryan,
[3:15] Speaker 1: you know where the Chiefs were at DVOA?
[3:18] Speaker 2: I'm going to guess 12th.
[3:19] Speaker 1: Sixth. Sixth. But you know who's fourth? America's team to
[3:26] Speaker 1: Detroit Lions.
[3:27] Speaker 2: Yeah, it's football.
[3:28] Speaker 1: Right, right. DVOA normally doesn't work like that. You normally
[3:32] Speaker 1: don't really get bogeys going in there in the way
[3:35] Speaker 1: that you got this year. But that's the thing with
[3:37] Speaker 1: the Chiefs right now is that the Chiefs are... They
[3:39] Speaker 1: are bogey-ish. Patrick Mahomes had three interceptions yesterday that felt
[3:44] Speaker 1: like the worst Patrick Mahomes game that we've ever seen.
[3:47] Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, the nerds were saying if you go
[3:50] Speaker 2: by the EPA stats or whatever, it was probably his
[3:53] Speaker 2: worst game as a starter.
[3:54] Speaker 1: Look, and we saw this team. We looked at the
[3:57] Speaker 1: guys they had at receiver, like the things they had
[3:58] Speaker 1: built up. Now, of course, they are in five-dot territory. Ryan,
[4:02] Speaker 1: you haven't been doing this with me for a very
[4:03] Speaker 1: long time. They do not have an offensive line. They
[4:05] Speaker 1: have five dots. And I got to be honest with you.
[4:08] Speaker 1: Some of those dots ain't even like symmetrical dots. They
[4:11] Speaker 1: just blots.
[4:12] Speaker 2: They're replacement dots.
[4:14] Speaker 1: Yes, yes.
[4:15] Speaker 2: Yeah, it's not even the original dots. They just wiggle
[4:17] Speaker 2: over them.
[4:18] Speaker 1: Yeah, I don't know if they are X's or O's,
[4:21] Speaker 1: but if they O's, they got holes in them. Like,
[4:25] Speaker 1: they are not, I mean, and it's not, these guys
[4:28] Speaker 1: are as good as they're supposed to be. They're not
[4:31] Speaker 1: all intended to be out there together at the same time. Like,
[4:34] Speaker 1: it's supposed to just be one of y'all. They just,
[4:36] Speaker 1: I mean, they're just, they out there with the second,
[4:39] Speaker 1: third unit type of dudes. And then you see another
[4:41] Speaker 1: one get hurt in the course of the game. And look,
[4:43] Speaker 1: maybe that's the depth of the explanation, right? Like maybe
[4:46] Speaker 1: we're being a little too hard on the Chiefs in
[4:49] Speaker 1: some total when it comes to this. But Ryan made
[4:51] Speaker 1: a great point right before the show about this. Man,
[4:53] Speaker 1: this really makes you look at the Patriots run of
[4:56] Speaker 1: the early 21st century and just be like, damn, y'all
[4:59] Speaker 1: really did it because this never happened, right? Like the
[5:04] Speaker 1: 80s and 90s 49ers had a very similar situation where
[5:10] Speaker 1: this never happened. But again, that is before the cap
[5:14] Speaker 1: and then after the advent and there was going to
[5:16] Speaker 1: be some trickle down in this, right? Patriots were just
[5:20] Speaker 1: coming out there, and as you put it, Ryan, retooling
[5:23] Speaker 1: around Tom Brady. There were different kinds of teams, and
[5:27] Speaker 1: the Chiefs, I think, had a certain element of how
[5:30] Speaker 1: it is that they retooled around Mahomes, and the league
[5:32] Speaker 1: kind of caught up paradigmatically, right? It's too high safety
[5:35] Speaker 1: time all around, so you're never going to get like
[5:37] Speaker 1: the 5,000-yard Chiefs passing again, and then they figured out
[5:40] Speaker 1: the nickel and dime game. They did all this, but this...
[5:44] Speaker 1: It never looked like this with the Patriots at this point.
[5:46] Speaker 1: There was that one year where me and everybody else
[5:50] Speaker 1: did a lot of work, said they were finished in
[5:53] Speaker 1: week four or five, and then they won the Super Bowl.
[5:57] Speaker 1: That did happen.
[5:58] Speaker 2: They had bad months. They would have bad Septembers, and
[6:02] Speaker 2: we would do the what's wrong with the Patriots thing.
[6:04] Speaker 2: But they were never– six and seven going into, you know,
[6:08] Speaker 2: week 15. Right.
[6:09] Speaker 1: But the, but the other part is they would always
[6:11] Speaker 1: be doing it with a bunch of low spades.
[6:14] Speaker 3: Right.
[6:14] Speaker 1: Right. Like Tom Brady, obviously a joker. I'd say Gronk,
[6:19] Speaker 1: qualified as joker you'd have like a chandler jones throwing
[6:22] Speaker 1: in there but then when he started asking for money
[6:25] Speaker 1: they would get him out of here right patriots love
[6:27] Speaker 1: to trade a 10 for five deuces right like they
[6:30] Speaker 1: are they are all about that one um but they
[6:33] Speaker 1: were out there by and large with low spades or
[6:36] Speaker 1: even i would say that like gronk well gronk was
[6:39] Speaker 1: a bit of a spade but that one dude that
[6:42] Speaker 1: was killing people was a very good player but like
[6:47] Speaker 1: not quite a joker he's almost kind of like like
[6:49] Speaker 1: a king of another suit. Like, you could trump it maybe,
[6:53] Speaker 1: but like, you know, the whole lot was going to
[6:55] Speaker 1: have to break right in order for you to do that.
[6:58] Speaker 1: It never was this, right? They are sitting, like I said,
[7:03] Speaker 1: they sitting down there with the Dolphins, bro. Anybody think
[7:06] Speaker 1: they could show up and get a game against the
[7:08] Speaker 1: Chiefs at this point? Now, look, the Texans are one
[7:10] Speaker 1: of those teams that all year long has been better
[7:13] Speaker 1: than their record, okay?
[7:15] Speaker 2: And a terrible matchup for the Chiefs in this specific
[7:17] Speaker 2: spot with how good their defensive line is and how
[7:20] Speaker 2: bad the Chiefs' offensive line is.
[7:21] Speaker 1: Yeah, you've got dots. They've got Will Anderson and Daniil Hunter. Like,
[7:27] Speaker 1: that's what they got. And them boys was coming, dog.
[7:31] Speaker 1: They were on the way. They were there. So now what?
[7:36] Speaker 1: Let me tell you something about the AFC. This is
[7:38] Speaker 1: very interesting to look at, okay? Patrick Mahomes, Lamar Jackson,
[7:44] Speaker 1: Joe Burrow. We would all agree, I think, that those
[7:48] Speaker 1: are three of the four best quarterbacks in the league.
[7:55] Speaker 1: Although Matthew Stafford is really messing up the math. Anyway,
[7:58] Speaker 1: those three guys will not be in the postseason. It
[8:02] Speaker 1: seems pretty clear that At this point, I guess it's
[8:05] Speaker 1: not too late for Baltimore to catch the Steelers. But Ryan,
[8:09] Speaker 1: we're talking about teams that look like cheeks. Specifically, Lamar
[8:12] Speaker 1: Jackson does not look like a good quarterback right now.
[8:15] Speaker 2: No, I mean, he has struggled with the Steelers historically. Like,
[8:19] Speaker 2: that's been kind of like the Lamar Jackson big game
[8:22] Speaker 2: narrative has always been around that. But he looked bad yesterday.
[8:26] Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
[8:26] Speaker 3: No, no, no.
[8:26] Speaker 1: He looked bad yesterday. He's looked bad this year. They
[8:29] Speaker 1: look bad. When are you going to fire the coach?
[8:32] Speaker 2: Yeah, that was a loser leaves town match between Tomlin
[8:35] Speaker 2: and Harbaugh yesterday.
[8:36] Speaker 1: That's exactly what it was. You got to get it done.
[8:42] Speaker 1: That's what that one was looking like, except we're not
[8:44] Speaker 1: having the same conversation about Harbaugh. And I find it. again,
[8:48] Speaker 1: a little bit interesting.
[8:49] Speaker 2: It's what happens when you play at 1 o'clock instead
[8:51] Speaker 2: of 425.
[8:52] Speaker 1: You know what? Great point. But I tell you who
[8:54] Speaker 1: else is playing in that game at 1 o'clock? Mike Tomlin.
[8:57] Speaker 1: And it would not have been treated like a 1
[8:59] Speaker 1: o'clock game if they had lost this. But yeah, AFC playoffs.
[9:02] Speaker 1: Get ready for Bo Nix, Drake May... Trevor Lawrence, who
[9:07] Speaker 1: looked great. I was looking up during that game, and
[9:11] Speaker 1: I was like, wow, that guy looks like he will
[9:14] Speaker 1: be the number one recruit in America.
[9:15] Speaker 2: Yeah, that guy looks like the number one recruit, the
[9:18] Speaker 2: number one pick in the draft.
[9:19] Speaker 1: Yeah, he looks like the reputed Trevor Lawrence that I
[9:22] Speaker 1: honestly had not seen. The ghost of Aaron Rodgers.
[9:26] Speaker 2: Justin Herbert with a broken hand.
[9:28] Speaker 1: Yes, Josh Allen, who, by the way, looked like Josh
[9:32] Speaker 1: Allen in the snow. but has not played well this year.
[9:35] Speaker 1: I think that we would all admit. So that's the
[9:37] Speaker 1: fourth of those four and his team is going to
[9:40] Speaker 1: be there. It looks like, but it isn't, but it
[9:43] Speaker 1: ain't in spite of him. I want to be clear,
[9:44] Speaker 1: but it's not so much because of him. And yes,
[9:46] Speaker 1: you say broken hand, Justin Herbert and CJ Stroud, who
[9:49] Speaker 1: got his egg scrambled, something vicious, right? This is a,
[9:54] Speaker 1: this is weird. I skipped over the Indianapolis Colts who,
[10:00] Speaker 1: man you want to talk about terrible luck terrible luck
[10:05] Speaker 1: so they traded two first round picks to get Sauce
[10:07] Speaker 1: Gardner a big part of that is because they had
[10:09] Speaker 1: found their quarterback or at least they believe they found
[10:11] Speaker 1: their quarterback I thought they got a little bit hasty
[10:14] Speaker 1: on leaning in on the idea that they had found
[10:15] Speaker 1: their quarterback. Anyway, Suss Gardner's out there, and we thought
[10:20] Speaker 1: he tore his Achilles last week. He did not.
[10:23] Speaker 2: And now he has a calf strain. Now you can't
[10:24] Speaker 2: play him because you have to treat him like he
[10:25] Speaker 2: tore his Achilles.
[10:27] Speaker 1: That is exactly it. You know what that is? It's
[10:29] Speaker 1: a pre-torn Achilles.
[10:30] Speaker 2: Basically, yeah.
[10:31] Speaker 1: That is what a calf strain is. But he did
[10:32] Speaker 1: not tear his Achilles, which had to be very relieving
[10:35] Speaker 1: to all parties involved since you traded two first-round picks
[10:38] Speaker 1: for him. But it's cool. You could do that because
[10:40] Speaker 1: you already had a quarterback, except the quarterback is Daniel Jones,
[10:43] Speaker 1: who had a bad left leg and then tore the
[10:46] Speaker 1: Achilles on his right leg on Sunday. And I would
[10:53] Speaker 1: presume that means that he can't play next week. I mean, yes,
[10:57] Speaker 1: I would presume that he cannot play next week. I
[11:00] Speaker 1: meant to say that he cannot play next season. My fault.
[11:04] Speaker 1: Though I got to tell you, Ryan, if Daniel Jones
[11:06] Speaker 1: came out there with a tour of the Achilles next
[11:08] Speaker 1: week and threw for 400 yards, oh my God, make
[11:11] Speaker 1: the movie now. Yeah.
[11:13] Speaker 2: Right.
[11:13] Speaker 1: And that movie would be not like an inspirational sports movie.
[11:18] Speaker 1: It would be science fiction.
[11:20] Speaker 2: Yeah. Bionic man.
[11:21] Speaker 5: Yes, yes.
[11:22] Speaker 1: That's what it would have to be. But how do
[11:25] Speaker 1: you feel if you're them, top to bottom? Like, mortgaging
[11:29] Speaker 1: your future, two fresh-out pictures of Sauce Gardner was kind
[11:32] Speaker 1: of wild.
[11:32] Speaker 2: Right. That was like the AFC is wide open. We're
[11:37] Speaker 2: going for it. And then, you know, you get this
[11:39] Speaker 2: great corner. He's hurt within three weeks. And then now
[11:42] Speaker 2: you're starting Riley Leonard because you're a backup quarterback. You
[11:45] Speaker 2: spent a top five pick on has a broken face. Yes.
[11:48] Speaker 3: Yes.
[11:49] Speaker 1: Now, also, I want to make this point about Sauce
[11:53] Speaker 1: Gardner and he is good.
[11:56] Speaker 3: Right.
[11:57] Speaker 1: I don't think any of us have any question about
[11:59] Speaker 1: the fact. That he is good. Do you know how
[12:01] Speaker 1: many interceptions he has in his career?
[12:03] Speaker 2: I'm going to say nine.
[12:05] Speaker 1: Three. Three.
[12:10] Speaker 2: That feels impossible.
[12:12] Speaker 3: Three.
[12:12] Speaker 1: He made first team all pro in two seasons where
[12:15] Speaker 1: he had two interceptions between them and one interception with none.
[12:21] Speaker 1: That's not to say he isn't good.
[12:23] Speaker 2: Of course.
[12:24] Speaker 1: But I am asking the question, if you're trading two
[12:26] Speaker 1: first round picks for a corner, Don't you kind of
[12:28] Speaker 1: want them to turn things or turn it around the
[12:30] Speaker 1: other way?
[12:31] Speaker 2: Right.
[12:31] Speaker 1: Like that was the thing about Deion Sanders. Deion Sanders,
[12:34] Speaker 1: nobody was throwing over there. And when they did, it
[12:36] Speaker 1: was coming back. Richard Sherman always made the point that
[12:40] Speaker 1: a great DB doesn't just make they shut it down.
[12:43] Speaker 1: You also sometimes got to lull them into giving you
[12:45] Speaker 1: some picks.
[12:46] Speaker 2: Right.
[12:46] Speaker 1: Like forcing turnovers is part of the job.
[12:48] Speaker 2: But anyway, you have to be so smart. You tricked
[12:50] Speaker 2: them into throwing a pick.
[12:51] Speaker 1: Correct. So they made that move and now they're stuck
[12:54] Speaker 1: like Chuck. And yes, their first round quarterback from two
[12:58] Speaker 1: seasons ago, Anthony Richardson has a broken face, right? He
[13:03] Speaker 1: has a broken orbital bone. It is really bad. Like
[13:06] Speaker 1: people have thought that it's like, oh man, they're, they're
[13:08] Speaker 1: not telling the truth about Angie Richardson. They're hiding him. No,
[13:10] Speaker 1: they're like, yo, you can't really put this cat on camera, man.
[13:13] Speaker 1: His face is all broke up. And guess what? If
[13:18] Speaker 1: you're the Colts, you have no other option but hope
[13:24] Speaker 1: that 2026 is the year that Anthony Richardson puts it
[13:30] Speaker 1: all together. That's what you got. I don't know what
[13:36] Speaker 1: else to tell you, man. Daniel Jones coming off of
[13:39] Speaker 1: a torn Achilles, I think, is cooked. You have to
[13:43] Speaker 1: treat Daniel Jones in a lot of ways like he...
[13:48] Speaker 1: treat him like you would if he was DeAndre Jones,
[13:50] Speaker 1: which is to say, um, you know, without his athleticism,
[13:54] Speaker 1: I don't really know if he's going to be able
[13:55] Speaker 1: to get it done out here. You know what I mean?
[13:57] Speaker 1: If he's just got to stand back there in the
[13:59] Speaker 1: pocket and, uh, use his noodle. I'm not sure that's
[14:02] Speaker 1: going to be enough. You got to treat him like
[14:04] Speaker 1: DeAndre Jones. Like, Hey man, you know, he really makes
[14:06] Speaker 1: it happen because he can move once he can't move.
[14:09] Speaker 1: Oh boy.
[14:09] Speaker 2: I don't know.
[14:10] Speaker 1: I think the league's going to figure them out. Yep.
[14:11] Speaker 1: You got to use all those terms when you talk
[14:14] Speaker 1: about that cat, that's what it's going to be. Um,
[14:17] Speaker 1: And Ryan, all those things happen in the week, and
[14:19] Speaker 1: we still have tonight where the Eagles have the opportunity
[14:22] Speaker 1: to be more hilarious. We haven't even gotten to them.
[14:25] Speaker 1: By the way, the Rams, I know they were playing
[14:27] Speaker 1: against the Arizona Cardinals, but the Rams looked like a machine.
[14:30] Speaker 2: Yeah, when they look good and Puka Deku is making
[14:34] Speaker 2: those catches, they look unstoppable.
[14:36] Speaker 1: They do. Also, for the NFC yesterday, or Sunday, I
[14:40] Speaker 1: thought it was interesting. I don't know how much of
[14:44] Speaker 1: Packers Bears you saw.
[14:45] Speaker 2: Decent amount.
[14:46] Speaker 1: Number one, that Jordan Love is an entertaining watch.
[14:50] Speaker 3: Yes.
[14:50] Speaker 2: He's so fun.
[14:52] Speaker 1: I'm glad he's not my quarterback. That would give me
[14:55] Speaker 1: a heart attack.
[14:56] Speaker 2: Correct.
[14:56] Speaker 1: However, I kind of wish he was my quarterback. Because
[14:59] Speaker 1: here's the thing. They're going to win a Super Bowl
[15:01] Speaker 1: with him. That was what really dawned on me in
[15:03] Speaker 1: watching that game. I don't know how many of them
[15:05] Speaker 1: they're going to win. They may only really be able
[15:07] Speaker 1: to pull it off once, but they're going to win
[15:09] Speaker 1: a Super Bowl with him because he is going to
[15:11] Speaker 1: have a month in the postseason once of absolute high-level
[15:14] Speaker 1: daredevil play where all the variance breaks on his side,
[15:18] Speaker 1: and it's fourth and three, and he's throwing it 30
[15:20] Speaker 1: yards down the field, and it never misses. All of
[15:23] Speaker 1: those things are going to happen. one time. I don't
[15:26] Speaker 1: know how you predict when that one time is going
[15:29] Speaker 1: to be, but it's going to happen one time. I
[15:32] Speaker 1: also thought that they had the bears. Caleb Williams had
[15:35] Speaker 1: a game where I think he was better than the numbers.
[15:39] Speaker 1: And that was, you know, I'm not there yet with him.
[15:42] Speaker 1: You guys know this, right? And I was watching the
[15:43] Speaker 1: game with Parkins and you know, Parkins has to believe
[15:46] Speaker 1: in Caleb Williams. Cause why wouldn't you do so? Otherwise
[15:48] Speaker 1: you just inflict your own misery upon yourself. It was
[15:50] Speaker 1: a little tough.
[15:51] Speaker 2: We'll chat about that tomorrow.
[15:53] Speaker 1: Yes, that's right. That's right. I left before it was
[15:57] Speaker 1: time to watch Nick's team lose. Markins handles things a
[16:01] Speaker 1: little bit more smoothly. So I was there watching his
[16:06] Speaker 1: team lose. But Caleb Williams, I didn't feel like he
[16:09] Speaker 1: was getting the requisite help that he needed in the
[16:12] Speaker 1: course of that game.
[16:14] Speaker 2: Going back to the Packers, it would be very hilarious
[16:16] Speaker 2: for them to win one sooner rather than later. and
[16:20] Speaker 2: then get into the playoffs and choke repeatedly, like each
[16:24] Speaker 2: quarterback they've had the last two years.
[16:26] Speaker 1: And by the last few, you mean the last 30.
[16:29] Speaker 1: I was about to say, this is exactly what happened
[16:32] Speaker 1: with Brett Favre.
[16:33] Speaker 2: And exactly what happened with Rodgers.
[16:35] Speaker 1: So what is so interesting to me is that of
[16:38] Speaker 1: their three quarterbacks, Brett Favre and Aaron Rodgers are completely
[16:42] Speaker 1: different archetypes, right? Brett Favre is out here on some YOLO.
[16:46] Speaker 1: Though I contend, those four years of Brett Favre, I
[16:49] Speaker 1: want to call it like 94 to 97.
[16:51] Speaker 2: Where he won three MVPs? Yes.
[16:54] Speaker 1: They're quite possibly the best four years of football that
[16:57] Speaker 1: any quarterback has had. Because you go back and look
[16:59] Speaker 1: at it, and this is in that era of football
[17:01] Speaker 1: where Brett Favre was throwing for like 39 touchdowns and
[17:04] Speaker 1: 11 interceptions.
[17:05] Speaker 2: Yeah.
[17:06] Speaker 1: Brett Favre, right? Like, that's what he was on. And
[17:10] Speaker 1: then you get to Aaron Rodgers, whose problem is he's
[17:12] Speaker 1: just a little bit too cautious. And then they got
[17:16] Speaker 1: Jordan Love.
[17:17] Speaker 2: And they ended up having the exact same career.
[17:19] Speaker 1: They did. That is crazy. And now they got Jordan Love,
[17:22] Speaker 1: who was like, y'all got that old thing back.
[17:24] Speaker 3: Yeah. Right?
[17:25] Speaker 1: Right? It's a rollercoaster ride, but he is their guy. Also,
[17:29] Speaker 1: shout out to you, Tampa Bay Buccaneers. How embarrassing is
[17:32] Speaker 1: that that you lost to the Saints?
[17:34] Speaker 2: Yeah. They've fallen apart.
[17:36] Speaker 1: At your own house.
[17:37] Speaker 2: Yeah. They've fallen apart.
[17:40] Speaker 1: And I guess, to be fair... let us not forget
[17:42] Speaker 1: that their quarterback kind of has one arm right now.
[17:45] Speaker 1: Now granted the arm he has is the one he
[17:48] Speaker 1: throws with.
[17:49] Speaker 5: Yeah.
[17:49] Speaker 1: But like, I feel like as a quarterback, your other
[17:52] Speaker 1: arm is kind of like walking. You don't think about
[17:54] Speaker 1: how much you use your big toe, but it is
[17:57] Speaker 1: like part of what every part of it.
[17:58] Speaker 2: It's like, it's like when you're a quarterback and you
[18:00] Speaker 2: tear the ACL on the plant leg and it's worse
[18:02] Speaker 2: than your lead leg.
[18:03] Speaker 4: Yeah.
[18:03] Speaker 2: Like you, you, you don't think of it that, you know,
[18:06] Speaker 2: that other leg is more important, but it turns out.
[18:08] Speaker 4: Yeah.
[18:08] Speaker 1: But this means that in all likelihood, the Carolina Panthers
[18:11] Speaker 1: are going to be in the playoffs. You want to
[18:13] Speaker 1: play that quarterback game in the NFC that has played
[18:16] Speaker 1: in the AFC? Like if this were the NBA, they
[18:19] Speaker 1: would be terrified of what the ratings are going to be.
[18:21] Speaker 2: Yeah, they'd be putting a lot of games exclusively on
[18:23] Speaker 2: the NFL network.
[18:24] Speaker 1: But I will say, though, that's really funny. The NFC
[18:29] Speaker 1: quarterbacks are all interesting. There's Stafford, who's the MVP. After
[18:34] Speaker 1: he threw those two picks last week, I was like, oh,
[18:36] Speaker 1: time for that Matthew Stafford regression.
[18:38] Speaker 2: Not this year.
[18:38] Speaker 1: Not this year. Matthew Stafford is set up if he
[18:41] Speaker 1: wants to, where they can win that Super Bowl. He
[18:43] Speaker 1: can ride out like John Elway.
[18:46] Speaker 2: First ballot Hall of Famer.
[18:47] Speaker 1: And trick these people into putting him into the Hall
[18:49] Speaker 1: of Fame.
[18:50] Speaker 2: Hey, man, you win an MVP in two Super Bowls,
[18:52] Speaker 2: you're in.
[18:52] Speaker 1: Yeah, and then if you go, yeah, you're right. Like
[18:55] Speaker 1: I said, Carson Palmer is like if I'd only stuck
[18:57] Speaker 1: around a little bit longer, right? Could have been me.
[19:00] Speaker 1: Jordan Love, who's up and down. Jalen Hurts.
[19:05] Speaker 2: We'll see you tonight.
[19:06] Speaker 1: I would love, by the way, I would love to
[19:08] Speaker 1: get Chris Ibsault here. Did you see when he was
[19:10] Speaker 1: on with Kevin Clark and just went with, it is
[19:12] Speaker 1: not the coach's fault at all in Philadelphia. It is
[19:15] Speaker 1: entirely on the quarterback.
[19:17] Speaker 2: He, he is very good. He really likes getting on
[19:20] Speaker 2: one of those islands.
[19:22] Speaker 1: He's willing.
[19:23] Speaker 2: Cause like everyone, every other person we talked about this
[19:26] Speaker 2: a while ago, I think it was last week about
[19:27] Speaker 2: how every other film person is like, it's the scheme.
[19:31] Speaker 2: It's the scheme.
[19:31] Speaker 1: It's the scheme.
[19:31] Speaker 3: Yes.
[19:32] Speaker 2: But now he's like, no, it's the quarterback.
[19:35] Speaker 1: He's willing. He's willing. And I have to tell you,
[19:38] Speaker 1: and you guys who ever rooted for the University of
[19:40] Speaker 1: Texas will understand, you'll never be able to ever would
[19:43] Speaker 1: have convinced the 2001 version of me that i would
[19:46] Speaker 1: like the chris sims this much in 2025 right i'm
[19:49] Speaker 1: not saying he's right about all these things but i
[19:52] Speaker 1: could write a book on like my voyage in sports
[19:55] Speaker 1: fandom and logic everything i.
[19:57] Speaker 2: Learned about football i learned through experiencing chris sims yeah.
[20:00] Speaker 1: Well realizing like hey man you've got a really passionate
[20:04] Speaker 1: opinion about this person you'd ever met before. You might
[20:09] Speaker 1: want to dial that back a little.
[20:10] Speaker 2: Are you guys the same age?
[20:13] Speaker 1: Effectively.
[20:14] Speaker 2: Yeah.
[20:14] Speaker 1: Effectively. Chris Sims, I'm probably like a couple of months
[20:18] Speaker 1: older than him.
[20:19] Speaker 2: Got it. Okay.
[20:20] Speaker 1: He's a high school class in 99.
[20:22] Speaker 2: Got it.
[20:23] Speaker 1: Okay. Ask me how closely I followed recruiting back in
[20:27] Speaker 1: those days.
[20:27] Speaker 2: Exactly.
[20:28] Speaker 1: Where I could do that. But anyway, what are Baker Mayfield?
[20:33] Speaker 1: Sam Darnold, if you believe that shit. Brock Purdy, Mac Jones,
[20:39] Speaker 1: does it really matter which? Caleb Williams. We might get
[20:44] Speaker 1: some more of that Jerry Goff. The little homie Bryce Young.
[20:48] Speaker 1: And then, outside of Dak Prescott, quite possibly the best
[20:52] Speaker 1: quarterback in the NFC this season, Dakota Prescott. And somehow
[20:57] Speaker 1: still eligible for the playoffs, J.J.
[20:59] Speaker 4: McCarthy.
[21:01] Speaker 1: This is unbelievable. Weird quarterbackness, ladies and gentlemen. Weird. I
[21:12] Speaker 1: don't know if it's too early to say that I
[21:14] Speaker 1: was right. I don't even know how many of you
[21:16] Speaker 1: fully agree with me that I was right, because I
[21:17] Speaker 1: don't think you agree with me, because you keep trying
[21:19] Speaker 1: to take a problem and make it better by doing
[21:23] Speaker 1: more of the problem. But I stood alone for decades, Ryan.
[21:31] Speaker 1: Decades explaining to people that the college football playoff was
[21:37] Speaker 1: never going to be a good idea. My argument for
[21:43] Speaker 1: why it was never going to be a good idea
[21:45] Speaker 1: largely hinged on the fact that there was never going
[21:50] Speaker 1: to be a good way to come up with a
[21:52] Speaker 1: national champion in college football because the point of this
[21:56] Speaker 1: was never to name a a national championship, okay? The
[22:03] Speaker 1: reason that college sports generally, but really college football more
[22:07] Speaker 1: than anything else exists is one reason and one reason only. Vibes.
[22:15] Speaker 1: That's it. It's fun. It's a good time. Makes people
[22:19] Speaker 1: feel good. But most importantly, this game began when everything
[22:28] Speaker 1: was regionals.
[22:30] Speaker 3: Right?
[22:31] Speaker 1: Everything was really about what was going on in your
[22:35] Speaker 1: own backyard. And I have always contended that this game
[22:40] Speaker 1: is at its best and at its most enjoyable when
[22:43] Speaker 1: it is its most regional. Now, is it logical to
[22:48] Speaker 1: have a system where you determine a champion by having
[22:53] Speaker 1: a bunch of people around the corner around the country vote?
[23:01] Speaker 1: It's not illogical, actually. And the reason I say it's
[23:05] Speaker 1: not illogical is that it is no less logical than
[23:10] Speaker 1: having a room full of people sit around and vote
[23:14] Speaker 1: about who gets into your little tournament that you put
[23:18] Speaker 1: together at the end of the year. It's a different
[23:21] Speaker 1: way to do it, but it doesn't make a lot
[23:24] Speaker 1: more sense. What it is, however, is perhaps just a
[23:28] Speaker 1: little easier for people to wrap their minds around because
[23:31] Speaker 1: the logic of a tournament and head to head, it
[23:36] Speaker 1: does not tell you who a quote unquote true champion is,
[23:39] Speaker 1: nor is it especially scientific, but it is easy to understand, right? Hey,
[23:45] Speaker 1: we beat them. Now we go play another round. Now
[23:47] Speaker 1: we beat them. We go to another round.
[23:49] Speaker 6: Okay.
[23:49] Speaker 1: Like everybody gets that, but this isn't like when you
[23:53] Speaker 1: have one of these tournaments in professional sports. And a
[23:56] Speaker 1: big part of the reason why it's different when it
[23:58] Speaker 1: runs a professional sports is The leagues are small enough
[24:02] Speaker 1: and partition into divisions and conferences in such a way
[24:07] Speaker 1: that all the teams play a reasonably similar set of games.
[24:14] Speaker 1: And since they play a reasonably similar set of games,
[24:17] Speaker 1: their records are close enough to being comparable that I
[24:22] Speaker 1: can say you are 11 and two, you are 10
[24:24] Speaker 1: and one. You should be ahead of that other person
[24:26] Speaker 1: because you are 11 and two in that team is
[24:29] Speaker 1: 10 and one. Right. And then if you wind up
[24:32] Speaker 1: in a situation where they have the same record and
[24:34] Speaker 1: they played head to head, you can determine the winner
[24:36] Speaker 1: and you can use that as a tiebreaker because tiebreakers
[24:39] Speaker 1: are always going to be to a degree, some bit
[24:40] Speaker 1: arbitrary anyway. But you can just go ahead and do that.
[24:43] Speaker 1: But the key to all of that was we were
[24:46] Speaker 1: working with manageable sets of information that make it very
[24:54] Speaker 1: easy to make decisions. There was always a bit of
[24:58] Speaker 1: an understanding in college sports that. that you were not
[25:01] Speaker 1: going to be working, at least in a national context,
[25:05] Speaker 1: with manageable sets of information. You weren't, okay? So as
[25:11] Speaker 1: a result, we had things like voters and polls because
[25:17] Speaker 1: that was what you needed to make sense of what
[25:20] Speaker 1: was going on. You trusted a group of people that
[25:22] Speaker 1: you perceived to have a certain measure of expertise and
[25:25] Speaker 1: then let them vote and come up with stuff. Now again,
[25:28] Speaker 1: They wasn't always going to be out here getting it
[25:30] Speaker 1: right and everything else. But all it took was somebody
[25:36] Speaker 1: didn't like a little something that somebody did, right? And
[25:41] Speaker 1: once somebody didn't like that little something that somebody did,
[25:45] Speaker 1: now we argue about it. And now it's, why don't
[25:48] Speaker 1: we have a playoff? Everybody else has a playoff. Why
[25:50] Speaker 1: don't we have a playoff? They got a playoff in
[25:53] Speaker 1: Division I AA and it works. Why don't we have
[25:56] Speaker 1: a playoff? And I would always ask the question, man,
[25:59] Speaker 1: how the fuck you know what they do in 1AA
[26:01] Speaker 1: work or not? You ain't watching. You understand what I'm saying? Like,
[26:08] Speaker 1: everybody got so caught up on this idea that it
[26:10] Speaker 1: was necessary that this was the only legitimate way to
[26:14] Speaker 1: come up with something, right? And now you got it.
[26:20] Speaker 1: You got the playoff that you always asked for. And
[26:24] Speaker 1: I know that it apparently TV ratings have been good, right?
[26:28] Speaker 1: People watch all the games, so forth and so on.
[26:31] Speaker 1: I hear you there. I'm just asking you. What has
[26:37] Speaker 1: this made better? I want you to think about something
[26:42] Speaker 1: right fast, because I don't know how many people I've
[26:44] Speaker 1: seen talk about this. I've talked about this in this context.
[26:48] Speaker 1: And Ryan, you read these things a little bit more
[26:50] Speaker 1: than I do, right? So you feel free to let
[26:52] Speaker 1: me know if I'm wrong about this. And I think
[26:54] Speaker 1: I told you, man, just by you a little bit,
[26:56] Speaker 1: but even still, I contend that in a different era,
[27:01] Speaker 1: even though that game was number one versus number two,
[27:05] Speaker 1: I contend Indiana, who, by the way, looks like Indiana
[27:13] Speaker 1: when they are playing against Ohio State. They beat Ohio
[27:18] Speaker 1: State for the Big Ten championship. As recently as, I'll
[27:24] Speaker 1: call it 15 years ago, maybe even 10 years ago,
[27:27] Speaker 1: but let's call it 15. I think that may have
[27:30] Speaker 1: gone down as one of the biggest upsets in the
[27:31] Speaker 1: history of college football.
[27:33] Speaker 2: It's up there.
[27:34] Speaker 1: Like, I don't care about what the betting line was.
[27:37] Speaker 1: I'm talking about, in effect, how many of you really
[27:40] Speaker 1: thought that Indiana had an actual factual chance against Ohio State?
[27:46] Speaker 3: Right.
[27:47] Speaker 1: In the end, like I remember what a big deal
[27:48] Speaker 1: it was when Northwestern went to the Rose Bowl in 1995. OK,
[27:52] Speaker 1: it was giant. All right.
[27:54] Speaker 2: Similar. Like the thing when I think of big upsets
[27:56] Speaker 2: in college football, the first thing that jumps to mind
[27:58] Speaker 2: is is Boise State and Oklahoma in that Fiesta Bowl.
[28:01] Speaker 1: Yes.
[28:01] Speaker 2: Like that, like those types of like. calibers of programs
[28:05] Speaker 2: going against each other and like looking the same on
[28:07] Speaker 2: the field and ultimately getting the win in the end.
[28:09] Speaker 1: Yeah. But Indiana to me is the same caliber of
[28:11] Speaker 1: college football program as Boise state.
[28:13] Speaker 3: Correct.
[28:13] Speaker 2: That's my point.
[28:14] Speaker 4: Yeah.
[28:14] Speaker 3: Yeah.
[28:14] Speaker 6: Yeah.
[28:15] Speaker 1: Now things are different now. And they'll talk about, Ooh,
[28:17] Speaker 1: it's NIL. This is a bunch of dudes from James Madison.
[28:19] Speaker 1: Like I don't think that NIL is the secret to
[28:21] Speaker 1: what Indiana is doing.
[28:22] Speaker 2: This is not what Texas tech is doing.
[28:24] Speaker 1: Right. Right. Like I think it may have something to
[28:26] Speaker 1: do perhaps with just the money, the big 10 brings
[28:28] Speaker 1: in and it allows Indiana to then be more competitive
[28:30] Speaker 1: relative to their peers or whatever, but, But no, Cignetti brought,
[28:33] Speaker 1: he brought, you remember when D.I. was like, I'm bringing
[28:37] Speaker 1: my luggage, and it's Louie? Look, Cignetti was like, I'm
[28:41] Speaker 1: bringing my luggage, and boy, is it ever sturdy. Look
[28:44] Speaker 1: at the stitching on this. It's put together so well, right?
[28:48] Speaker 1: But it's like, but they did this. And I don't
[28:51] Speaker 1: think that we are celebrating the fact that Indiana is
[28:53] Speaker 1: the number one team in the country going into the
[28:55] Speaker 1: postseason in the way that we would.
[28:57] Speaker 2: And there's no real argument for anyone else.
[29:00] Speaker 3: No.
[29:00] Speaker 4: No.
[29:01] Speaker 1: There's none. And look, they've only really played against two
[29:04] Speaker 1: good teams this year. But those two good teams are
[29:06] Speaker 1: the number three and the number five team in the country.
[29:09] Speaker 1: And they went into one of their houses and beat
[29:11] Speaker 1: them definitively. And not only did they beat Ohio State
[29:15] Speaker 1: in this championship game at a neutral site, it was
[29:17] Speaker 1: 13 to 10. Like, Ryan, you tell me if I'm crazy,
[29:19] Speaker 1: but normally you would expect in a circumstance like this
[29:21] Speaker 1: and you may use Boise State as the example. Trick plays.
[29:25] Speaker 2: Yeah, trick plays, high variance, special teams, touchdowns. But no,
[29:30] Speaker 2: they got into a needy, gritty Big Ten war with
[29:33] Speaker 2: Ohio State and beat them.
[29:34] Speaker 1: And beat them, okay? That doesn't feel like it matters
[29:39] Speaker 1: that much anymore. Like, I remember when they changed the Indiana,
[29:42] Speaker 1: speaking of Indiana, they changed the Indiana high school basketball tournament.
[29:45] Speaker 1: And I was talking to Pat Forty about this when
[29:47] Speaker 1: it happened. This is when I was first getting to
[29:48] Speaker 1: know him. And what they did was they changed it,
[29:51] Speaker 1: the Indiana State high school tournament, if you've seen Hoosiers,
[29:58] Speaker 1: it used to just be one state champion. For all
[30:01] Speaker 1: the high schools in Indiana. And then they broke it
[30:03] Speaker 1: down like it is in most states. And they have,
[30:06] Speaker 1: you know, I don't know how they call it, but 5A, 4A, 3A, 2A,
[30:09] Speaker 1: you know, up and down the line or whatever. And
[30:11] Speaker 1: 40 told me at the time, because I was like, oh,
[30:13] Speaker 1: more kids get to be champions. He's like, no, man,
[30:15] Speaker 1: they're messing with perfection. And what happens is in the
[30:18] Speaker 1: absence of all these different champions by gradiation, everybody was
[30:22] Speaker 1: playing for something different. Everybody had different stakes. And so
[30:26] Speaker 1: for the little schools, if you win one game, it
[30:28] Speaker 1: was like winning state. If you did this, that and
[30:30] Speaker 1: everything else, but allowed everybody else to come up with
[30:32] Speaker 1: what was important to them. And I think in large part,
[30:35] Speaker 1: that's what college football had always been. is we've got
[30:38] Speaker 1: these different levels. Going to the Gator Bowl means something
[30:40] Speaker 1: for different schools. Kansas went to the Orange Bowl one time.
[30:43] Speaker 1: You know what I mean? That was a big enough thing. Like,
[30:45] Speaker 1: the ability to get to all these different places, this
[30:48] Speaker 1: was what it was. This was cool. But we just
[30:51] Speaker 1: needed a national champion when the only winner from a
[30:54] Speaker 1: true national champion are nationalizing the consumption of college sports.
[30:58] Speaker 1: The only winners are television networks. ESPN in particular. Hold
[31:03] Speaker 1: that thought, okay? So, yeah. I think the Indiana example
[31:08] Speaker 1: to me points out how we kind of messed up
[31:11] Speaker 1: something just because it didn't make sense, even though it
[31:13] Speaker 1: was a lot of fun. We were better off in
[31:17] Speaker 1: that regard. So now we've got this playoff and it's
[31:20] Speaker 1: going to be a 12 team playoff and it gets
[31:23] Speaker 1: you to a committee that.
[31:26] Speaker 2: All right.
[31:27] Speaker 1: Talked about this many times as I've talked about the
[31:30] Speaker 1: playoff and everything else. And I'll say it again because
[31:33] Speaker 1: I think it's important for everybody to understand. All right.
[31:37] Speaker 1: The college football playoff is a package of television shows.
[31:43] Speaker 1: That's what it is. It is a package of television
[31:45] Speaker 1: shows presented to you by ESPN and its partners in
[31:51] Speaker 1: college football. That's what it is. They have weeks and
[31:55] Speaker 1: weeks and weeks of college football ranking shows because those
[32:00] Speaker 1: are television shows and they take those television shows and
[32:02] Speaker 1: then they go sell advertising against those television shows. And
[32:07] Speaker 1: every week, they put out their ratings. And then the
[32:11] Speaker 1: next day, you could turn on ESPN and you could
[32:13] Speaker 1: watch their television shows, as I do. And there will
[32:17] Speaker 1: be people arguing about the rankings. So it is a
[32:21] Speaker 1: television show that then begets more television. Because we will
[32:27] Speaker 1: now talk about this on all of the other television shows.
[32:31] Speaker 1: But the purpose of those rankings, and this is very
[32:34] Speaker 1: important as it goes along, is not really to keep
[32:39] Speaker 1: you posted on the progress of the teams or to
[32:43] Speaker 1: give you any real insight or understanding into what, who
[32:48] Speaker 1: is actually going to be in the college football playoff
[32:51] Speaker 1: at the end. No, sir. The purpose of those shows
[32:55] Speaker 1: are to be shows and to be television shows. The
[32:59] Speaker 1: logic that they used at any point during the process
[33:03] Speaker 1: has no tie to the What will happen in the end?
[33:09] Speaker 1: It has none whatsoever. Now, I want to say this
[33:14] Speaker 1: to that committee. You have a borderline impossible job that
[33:17] Speaker 1: you are being expected to do. It is very, very difficult.
[33:21] Speaker 1: We know this and we understand this. OK. However. And look,
[33:27] Speaker 1: you could have gone either way on this decision. You
[33:32] Speaker 1: can't explain to me how it is that Notre Dame
[33:34] Speaker 1: and Miami, it was Notre Dame ahead of Miami. And
[33:37] Speaker 1: then neither one of them played a game. And then
[33:41] Speaker 1: it was Miami over Notre Dame.
[33:43] Speaker 2: Unless you're doing a WWE style work.
[33:47] Speaker 3: Right.
[33:47] Speaker 1: I don't, by the way, they weren't doing this for
[33:50] Speaker 1: cynical reasons because the cynical move is always to put
[33:54] Speaker 1: Notre Dame in.
[33:55] Speaker 3: Right.
[33:56] Speaker 1: So I don't, The argument that people have made is
[33:59] Speaker 1: that if there was somebody between Notre Dame and Miami,
[34:02] Speaker 1: like it was BYU.
[34:03] Speaker 2: Right.
[34:04] Speaker 1: And so if BYU was in between them, then okay.
[34:08] Speaker 1: But then once you put them right next to each other,
[34:10] Speaker 1: then that meant you had to put, that doesn't make
[34:12] Speaker 1: any sense. Like if you took geometry in high school,
[34:15] Speaker 1: you couldn't write that proof.
[34:17] Speaker 2: Right.
[34:18] Speaker 1: Like you can't like it doesn't work. There's no logic
[34:21] Speaker 1: under which this makes sense. Now, the Miami fan argument
[34:25] Speaker 1: was we beat them head to head. You beat them
[34:28] Speaker 1: by three points at home in the first game of
[34:32] Speaker 1: the season. That's a wash, right? Now, if you just
[34:36] Speaker 1: think that this is wrestling or boxing and you want
[34:39] Speaker 1: a king of the hill contest, this is where we
[34:41] Speaker 1: get into head-to-head. It's easy to understand. But if you
[34:44] Speaker 1: think about it past the top level, it gets to be.
[34:47] Speaker 2: A little ugh, right?
[34:50] Speaker 1: I don't know. Like, put it like this. We always
[34:52] Speaker 1: say that a three-point spread in favor of the home
[34:53] Speaker 1: team is a pick-em.
[34:55] Speaker 3: Right.
[34:58] Speaker 1: You see what I mean?
[34:58] Speaker 2: Yeah.
[34:59] Speaker 1: Like, this was a pick-em.
[35:01] Speaker 3: But.
[35:02] Speaker 1: I'm not going to, I'd say I ain't going to
[35:03] Speaker 1: spend my time arguing about who's number 12. It just
[35:05] Speaker 1: doesn't like really make any sense. But where they mess
[35:08] Speaker 1: themselves up to me and why this job for the
[35:10] Speaker 1: committee is so difficult. And I'm not the first person
[35:12] Speaker 1: to bring this up, obviously. It's the conferences are just
[35:16] Speaker 1: so big that there is no ability to compare records
[35:20] Speaker 1: from team to team, right? Everybody plays all these different people.
[35:24] Speaker 1: They just, they just, this is how you wind up
[35:26] Speaker 1: with Duke being the ACC champion because Duke wins a
[35:29] Speaker 1: tiebreaker where, They're a five loss team. They're tied with Miami.
[35:35] Speaker 1: They're tied with Georgia Tech. But somehow, you know, whatever
[35:39] Speaker 1: the tiebreaker came down to, it went there because remember
[35:42] Speaker 1: when people were like, well, what's the point of having divisions?
[35:44] Speaker 1: The point of having divisions is so you have a
[35:47] Speaker 1: common set of information that then allows you to decide
[35:50] Speaker 1: these two teams in your championship. You won this bracket.
[35:53] Speaker 1: You won. OK, cool. We then go from there. Otherwise,
[35:56] Speaker 1: this is what you end up with or you end
[35:59] Speaker 1: up with Ohio State and Indiana, neither of whom really
[36:01] Speaker 1: had to play anybody all year long, although Ohio State
[36:04] Speaker 1: had the Texas game and the Oregon at least they
[36:06] Speaker 1: scheduled it. But it's all haywire. None of it makes
[36:09] Speaker 1: any sense logically in trying to put it together. And
[36:15] Speaker 1: what are we going to get out of this as
[36:16] Speaker 1: a result? If it's anything like last year, you're going
[36:19] Speaker 1: to get first round playoff games that are terrible to
[36:22] Speaker 1: watch because the home teams are going to kick the
[36:24] Speaker 1: teeth in of the teams that they play against. Oregon
[36:28] Speaker 1: at home against James Madison. They are going to stomp
[36:33] Speaker 1: them boys out. Ole Miss, and by the way, what
[36:37] Speaker 1: a press conference, Pete Golding. Ole Miss and Tulane. Ryan,
[36:43] Speaker 1: I feel pretty confident. Ole Miss is probably going to
[36:45] Speaker 1: stomp them out.
[36:46] Speaker 2: Yes.
[36:48] Speaker 1: What is it, Miami? Texas A & M. I think
[36:51] Speaker 1: Texas A & M is going to blow their doors off.
[36:53] Speaker 2: Yes.
[36:54] Speaker 1: Like, I just don't think they're, hoo, hoo, hoo, boy.
[36:56] Speaker 2: Yeah, I think they're ready for Marcel Reed. No.
[36:59] Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, and.
[37:00] Speaker 1: You want to talk about a coaching advantage.
[37:02] Speaker 2: Yes.
[37:03] Speaker 1: Elko versus Mario Cristobal.
[37:05] Speaker 2: Especially in game once the rosters are set.
[37:08] Speaker 4: Yeah.
[37:08] Speaker 1: That's kind of like Bobby Knight looking at Dale Brown
[37:10] Speaker 1: and being like, we're good. We'll be fine. Don't you
[37:14] Speaker 1: worry about that. And then what's the other one? Oh, Oklahoma, Alabama.
[37:19] Speaker 2: Well, that's good for that's good for business.
[37:21] Speaker 1: Would you like me to read the text from my
[37:23] Speaker 1: Alabama fan?
[37:24] Speaker 2: Sure would.
[37:26] Speaker 1: Friend. And just so you know, he's black. Win or
[37:31] Speaker 1: go home game for the boar. Can't lose the minimum
[37:35] Speaker 1: three times in 15 months.
[37:37] Speaker 2: That's it.
[37:37] Speaker 1: And that game's in Norman. I guess that one has
[37:42] Speaker 1: the chance to be a good one.
[37:43] Speaker 2: For sure.
[37:43] Speaker 1: That's it. But otherwise, these aren't going to be competitive games, man. Like,
[37:47] Speaker 1: that's what you got out of this. That's what you
[37:50] Speaker 1: got out of this. You had more fun when it
[37:53] Speaker 1: was a wide range of bowls. You had more fun
[37:56] Speaker 1: when they figured out one versus two setups, and then
[37:58] Speaker 1: everybody figured something else out to play for. But like this, oh,
[38:02] Speaker 1: everybody's got the chance to play. Ole Miss has a
[38:04] Speaker 1: chance to play for a title. No, they don't. They
[38:07] Speaker 1: ain't playing for no fucking title. James Madison ain't playing
[38:09] Speaker 1: for no title. Tulane ain't playing for no title. Miami
[38:14] Speaker 1: ain't playing for no title. Let me tell you who's
[38:16] Speaker 1: playing for a title. By the way, Ryan, is Indiana
[38:21] Speaker 1: playing for a title?
[38:22] Speaker 2: I guess so.
[38:24] Speaker 1: I think so.
[38:24] Speaker 2: I guess so.
[38:25] Speaker 1: I think so. But Georgia.
[38:27] Speaker 2: Playing for a title.
[38:28] Speaker 1: They're playing for a title.
[38:29] Speaker 2: Ohio State. Playing for a title.
[38:31] Speaker 1: They're playing for a title.
[38:32] Speaker 3: Oregon.
[38:32] Speaker 1: Texas Tech, maybe. Yeah, Oregon. Although, you know what? If
[38:35] Speaker 1: Oregon's playing for a title, then Indiana's playing for it.
[38:37] Speaker 2: That's fair.
[38:37] Speaker 1: But either way it goes. That's what we got. Yeah.
[38:40] Speaker 1: We got four teams playing for a title. And if
[38:42] Speaker 1: you liked having a playoff, you know what we just
[38:44] Speaker 1: had very recently? A four-team playoff. that might have satisfied
[38:50] Speaker 1: exactly what you were looking for. Instead, you got all
[38:54] Speaker 1: of this.
[38:55] Speaker 2: All right, Bo, a couple other stories from the weekend.
[39:05] Speaker 2: Shador Sanders had probably his best game as a pro
[39:09] Speaker 2: for over 350 yards, four total touchdowns. However, not in
[39:13] Speaker 2: for the two-point conversion to tie. And people are mad. Bo,
[39:18] Speaker 2: what was your reaction to this?
[39:19] Speaker 1: Buddy, I feel like everything in that game, whoever be
[39:23] Speaker 1: writing that Shador script, they got a little something for
[39:27] Speaker 1: everybody now, don't they?
[39:29] Speaker 3: Yes.
[39:30] Speaker 1: I feel like I watched a decent bit of that.
[39:32] Speaker 1: He made, because he's going to hold on to the ball,
[39:38] Speaker 1: he's going to make some big plays, right?
[39:42] Speaker 2: Right.
[39:42] Speaker 1: Right.
[39:42] Speaker 2: If you don't pressure him immediately, he's going to get
[39:45] Speaker 2: like that. Throw the the 60 yard TD to Judy. Yes.
[39:48] Speaker 2: Very good throw. Yes. And yeah, he's going and he's
[39:51] Speaker 2: going to. And yeah, if you do not pressure him,
[39:53] Speaker 2: he's going to make big throws.
[39:54] Speaker 1: He's going to make some things happen. But he also
[39:57] Speaker 1: like he had the 60 yard. Now, the 60 yard
[40:01] Speaker 1: was the Judy was the 50 yard pass to Jenkins.
[40:03] Speaker 1: But that was a screen.
[40:03] Speaker 2: Yeah. Right.
[40:04] Speaker 1: Like it doesn't. He was much better in the second
[40:07] Speaker 1: half in terms of like getting the ball down the
[40:09] Speaker 1: field and all of that stuff. Um, he's going to
[40:11] Speaker 1: be their starter for the rest of the year. They're
[40:13] Speaker 1: going to take a quarterback in the first round. Like
[40:16] Speaker 1: all of those things happen, but he did just enough
[40:18] Speaker 1: to serve whatever agenda anybody has in that one. Like
[40:22] Speaker 1: the picky through was awful. Um, it was very clear
[40:26] Speaker 1: that the Titans decided he's going to have to be
[40:28] Speaker 1: the one to beat us. He, I mean, I think
[40:31] Speaker 1: Ken Ward's out there for Dolo, like go play a
[40:33] Speaker 1: game and name that Titan. Like, go read who he's
[40:38] Speaker 1: throwing the ball over there to. You ain't heard of
[40:40] Speaker 1: none of them. I've heard of everybody that the Browns got.
[40:42] Speaker 1: I ain't ever heard of none of these guys that
[40:44] Speaker 1: the Titans are throwing to. But Shador outplayed him, right? Like,
[40:48] Speaker 1: he played against number one pick. He outplayed him. They
[40:51] Speaker 1: were in it at the end. And then Stefanski, like,
[40:54] Speaker 1: if I'm not mistaken, the way the two-point conversions work
[40:56] Speaker 1: for teams, they have a two-point play they practice all week.
[40:59] Speaker 1: And when it comes down to it, that's the one
[41:00] Speaker 1: that they're going to run. And, buddy, Stefanski, that couldn't
[41:03] Speaker 1: have been the two-point play that you practiced. Like, they
[41:06] Speaker 1: marched that all the way down the field, and you
[41:08] Speaker 1: took them off the field again. And then y'all ran
[41:12] Speaker 1: the play wrong.
[41:13] Speaker 2: That is– I'm not saying Stefanski was sabotaging Shadurah Sanders. However,
[41:21] Speaker 2: if you want– If that was your thought, I don't–
[41:26] Speaker 2: I don't have the camera.
[41:28] Speaker 1: But the problem is, if he had put him out
[41:31] Speaker 1: there and they didn't like the play that he called
[41:33] Speaker 1: for Shador Sanders, that would also be evidence of sabotage. Like,
[41:38] Speaker 1: that's what I'm saying. This game is like every game
[41:40] Speaker 1: with him seems to be a little bit of whatever
[41:43] Speaker 1: you need or want it to be, right? The part
[41:47] Speaker 1: that Stefanski is going to have the hardest part explaining
[41:50] Speaker 1: to anybody at this point is, how dylan gabriel got
[41:55] Speaker 1: to play this many games and look the people who
[41:58] Speaker 1: are like dismissive of the idea that dylan gabriel never
[42:01] Speaker 1: should have started over shador sanders no i think that's
[42:03] Speaker 1: ridiculous shador sanders was second team all-american last year first
[42:06] Speaker 1: team all-american was dylan gabriel like i don't know why
[42:08] Speaker 1: we act like these are two guys of wildly different
[42:12] Speaker 1: calibers like dylan gabriel won everywhere that he went in
[42:15] Speaker 1: college and look he went a lot of places a
[42:16] Speaker 1: lot of places yeah right but at the same time,
[42:20] Speaker 1: like what was buddy's name? Uh, during the elections, I've
[42:23] Speaker 1: seen enough. Like, I don't know. I've not seen enough
[42:25] Speaker 1: to say Shador is a starter or anything else, but
[42:28] Speaker 1: I've seen enough to say that he's better than Dylan Gabriel.
[42:30] Speaker 3: Yes.
[42:31] Speaker 1: And I don't know how Stefanski answers for that.
[42:33] Speaker 2: Yeah. We went from the Philly special to the Shador scandal.
[42:36] Speaker 1: Oh God. What are, what is this? This, but you
[42:40] Speaker 1: know what? At least it's at a place where, yeah,
[42:42] Speaker 1: we could do this every week, but we only have
[42:43] Speaker 1: to do it in this place.
[42:45] Speaker 2: Right. Exactly. Um, all right. So, uh, Magic and the
[42:49] Speaker 2: Knicks played yesterday. A little bit of a kerfuffle between O.G.
[42:56] Speaker 2: Onobi and Desmond Bain. You were in attendance for this.
[42:59] Speaker 2: You said you had a funny story.
[43:00] Speaker 1: Okay, so I was right there. A friend of mine,
[43:04] Speaker 1: my man Corey, shout out to him, had tickets to
[43:07] Speaker 1: the game, invited me to come. I came to the game, right?
[43:11] Speaker 1: Our seats were literally directly behind the Orlando Magic bench, right?
[43:19] Speaker 1: Here's the problem with that. My seats were directly behind.
[43:23] Speaker 1: A lot of tall people. Like, a lot of really
[43:27] Speaker 1: tall people. Like, you'd be wanting to be like, hey, yo. Like,
[43:30] Speaker 1: I had one so often. This one dude, man. He's like,
[43:32] Speaker 1: down in front. Just kept standing up the whole game.
[43:35] Speaker 1: But it was Jonathan Isaac.
[43:36] Speaker 2: I was about to say, is he still on the Magic?
[43:38] Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah. Like, I can't tell him to sit down.
[43:42] Speaker 1: But anyway, it was right there in front of me.
[43:45] Speaker 1: And I don't know what Desmond Bain was thinking. It
[43:48] Speaker 1: was such a preposterous thing. He cocked. He cocked back.
[43:53] Speaker 1: There was a whole fast break. Like, it wasn't like
[43:55] Speaker 1: he was about to fall out of bounds. And OG
[43:58] Speaker 1: got up just kind of like, I don't understand what just.
[44:02] Speaker 2: Yeah, he wasn't even angry. He seemed confused.
[44:05] Speaker 1: Yeah, like, it would have been different if he had heard, like,
[44:08] Speaker 1: Desmond Bain hit the ground after because he had jumped
[44:11] Speaker 1: up in the air or something.
[44:12] Speaker 3: Yeah.
[44:12] Speaker 1: No, he was just like, yo, what are you doing?
[44:14] Speaker 1: And Desmond Bain, it was wild to watch it wash
[44:18] Speaker 1: over the magic bench who didn't all necessarily see it
[44:21] Speaker 1: when it happened. Then as they watch it on the replay,
[44:24] Speaker 1: it'd be like, yeah, that was kind of messed up. Yeah,
[44:28] Speaker 1: he shouldn't have done that. One cat was on the bench.
[44:30] Speaker 1: He was like, it's legal, though. It's legal, though. Jokic
[44:33] Speaker 1: do it. He's still throwing. It's hard.
[44:35] Speaker 2: Well, kind of, you know, the... the amount of intensity
[44:40] Speaker 2: is kind of the problem. It's the difference between a
[44:42] Speaker 2: pat and a slap, you know?
[44:43] Speaker 1: There's nothing quite like when you're riding for your mans
[44:46] Speaker 1: and then you find out your mans is a hundred
[44:48] Speaker 1: percent wrong. And now you've got to figure out.
[44:51] Speaker 2: What you're going to do.
[44:53] Speaker 3: Yeah.
[44:53] Speaker 1: I just, it was, it was a really strange decision
[44:57] Speaker 1: by Desmond Bay. That's the, that's the best that I
[44:59] Speaker 1: got for you. I also was right there when Franz
[45:01] Speaker 1: got hurt and I'm lucky I didn't see that cause
[45:03] Speaker 1: that sounded like it was bad. Yeah. All right.
[45:06] Speaker 2: And finally, uh, The Diddy documentary on Netflix came out
[45:10] Speaker 2: this past week. Executive produced by 50 Cent. You have
[45:15] Speaker 2: mentioned it a couple times last week. Finally watched it.
[45:18] Speaker 2: I finally watched it. What was your biggest takeaway from
[45:21] Speaker 2: the Diddy documentary?
[45:21] Speaker 1: First of all, it's excellent.
[45:23] Speaker 2: It's really good.
[45:25] Speaker 1: It's a legitimately excellent piece of work. If you have
[45:27] Speaker 1: not seen it, you should see it. We're trying to
[45:29] Speaker 1: get an interview with the director. I don't know if
[45:31] Speaker 1: that's going to work out, but.
[45:31] Speaker 2: I'm just telling you. We're doing something ditty this week,
[45:34] Speaker 2: so everyone should watch it. Yes, yes.
[45:36] Speaker 1: It is excellent. Joel from Missouri City, we're talking to you.
[45:40] Speaker 1: Watch it, because you might be a guest. What is
[45:46] Speaker 1: so interesting in watching that is how abhorrent he has
[45:50] Speaker 1: always been. And we just didn't know it, but it's
[45:54] Speaker 1: not like you look at the old clips of him
[45:55] Speaker 1: and you're like, wow, he wasn't like anything like he
[45:57] Speaker 1: was later. No, he was the exact same person the
[46:00] Speaker 1: whole way. Just wow. Terrible. Lots of questions about different
[46:08] Speaker 1: things and different people involved. Some of those questions are
[46:11] Speaker 1: only questions that I ask when nobody else is around.
[46:14] Speaker 1: You know what I mean? But I will just tell
[46:19] Speaker 1: you guys this part. And this is what I thought
[46:22] Speaker 1: was the most diabolical thing. When Puff was all up
[46:27] Speaker 1: in the videos, dancing, I didn't know he was charging
[46:33] Speaker 1: people for it. Like, when he was all up in there,
[46:38] Speaker 1: he was stealing they shine and making them give him
[46:42] Speaker 1: money for it.
[46:45] Speaker 2: Yeah.
[46:45] Speaker 1: Yeah.
[46:46] Speaker 2: Just a, like, a clear from the get-go, I am
[46:51] Speaker 2: going to... places I'm stepping on every person I can
[46:54] Speaker 2: get to along the way.
[46:56] Speaker 6: Yes.
[46:56] Speaker 1: I can't imagine. And I don't have any other real
[46:59] Speaker 1: example of this, right? Because like, take a guy like
[47:01] Speaker 1: Master P for example, where to me, Master P was
[47:03] Speaker 1: not a rapper, but when we heard about Master P,
[47:06] Speaker 1: he was a rapper. You know what I mean? Like
[47:08] Speaker 1: he always led the business with his own rapping and
[47:11] Speaker 1: then like built a label around it, but he always
[47:14] Speaker 1: presented his rapper. Um, and it was a better rapper
[47:17] Speaker 1: than Puffy for whatever it's worth. I cannot, imagine being
[47:24] Speaker 1: puffy and being like, I'm going to start a record
[47:26] Speaker 1: company and then I'm going to start rapping because that's
[47:29] Speaker 1: where the shine is at. Because he's terrible. Ryan, you
[47:34] Speaker 1: said you had to learn the hard way.
[47:36] Speaker 2: I just always assumed that like, okay, at least he
[47:39] Speaker 2: was kind of good. He had songs on the radio.
[47:42] Speaker 5: No.
[47:43] Speaker 1: No. Awful rapper. Awful rapper. But you got to watch it.
[47:45] Speaker 1: I'm trying not to tell you too much about it,
[47:47] Speaker 1: but the Biggie Tupac episode, it'll make you mad. Whichever
[47:52] Speaker 1: side of the Biggie Tupac you were on, it'll make
[47:55] Speaker 1: you mad. By the way, fun thing about Biggie Tupac
[47:57] Speaker 1: is the years have gone on. Nobody ever acts like
[48:00] Speaker 1: they were on just one side of that. When you were.
[48:03] Speaker 1: I was there. I was here for this period of life.
[48:07] Speaker 1: You were, right? And whichever side you were on, the
[48:11] Speaker 1: bad guy is Diddy. Diddy is the bad guy behind everything.
[48:16] Speaker 1: Y'all need to be glad. Diddy need to be glad
[48:18] Speaker 1: that Shine is down there being a conservative politician in
[48:21] Speaker 1: his ancestral homeland. Because I would have loved to heard
[48:26] Speaker 1: the interviews with him. Like, it's so bad, they didn't
[48:29] Speaker 1: even have to talk about blowing up Kid Cudi's car.
[48:33] Speaker 1: Remember that? That happened. At least they said it happened.
[48:36] Speaker 1: I don't know. But anyway, no, you need to go
[48:38] Speaker 1: check that out, man. It's a serious piece of work.
[48:40] Speaker 1: I don't watch it twice, and I might watch it again.
[48:48] Speaker 2: All right, Bo, voicemail lines open. A lot of good ones.
[48:51] Speaker 2: Here's our first.
[48:53] Speaker 3: Hey, what's good, Bo? This is Jay from Kentucky. Man,
[48:57] Speaker 3: real quick, I was just thinking about how, you know,
[48:59] Speaker 3: it's great seeing teams like Indiana and Vanderbilt, you know,
[49:04] Speaker 3: finally having, you know, solid football programs after, you know,
[49:09] Speaker 3: what seems like forever. And it got me thinking, man,
[49:12] Speaker 3: I'd be pissed if I was a school like Kentucky or, UNC,
[49:17] Speaker 3: especially after this year. so I guess my question is
[49:21] Speaker 3: what do you think which school do you think is
[49:23] Speaker 3: the most pissed that they football program is cheeks right
[49:28] Speaker 3: now especially with NIL and everything love the show man
[49:32] Speaker 3: and keep doing what you're doing.
[49:36] Speaker 1: I mean look there's a I mean, Ryan, it probably
[49:40] Speaker 1: has to be you guys, right?
[49:41] Speaker 2: LSU. Well, well, this was six weeks ago before.
[49:44] Speaker 1: We got to do that.
[49:46] Speaker 2: People are much happier now.
[49:48] Speaker 1: So I think though, I need to like, I don't
[49:51] Speaker 1: know in, in the, in line with what my man
[49:53] Speaker 1: was talking about. Like I feel like there's two levels
[49:54] Speaker 1: of teams, right? Like there's the LSU type teams. They're
[49:56] Speaker 1: just not good right now. And then there are the
[50:00] Speaker 1: teams that are like systemically bad or systemic underachievers. And
[50:04] Speaker 1: I think those are the ones that get most upset
[50:06] Speaker 1: by seeing the Indiana and Vanderbilt. And I'm not sure
[50:11] Speaker 1: anybody is more upset about being mediocre at football right
[50:14] Speaker 1: now for the reasons that we just described than North Carolina.
[50:17] Speaker 2: Oh, interesting. I had a different top three.
[50:20] Speaker 1: Who were you thinking?
[50:21] Speaker 2: Number three, Florida State.
[50:23] Speaker 1: Oh, yeah.
[50:24] Speaker 2: Number two, USC.
[50:26] Speaker 3: Yeah.
[50:27] Speaker 2: And number one, Nebraska.
[50:29] Speaker 1: Okay. Nebraska's interesting because I don't know what their reasonable
[50:33] Speaker 1: expectations are. You know what I mean? Like, it'll never
[50:37] Speaker 1: be what it was.
[50:39] Speaker 2: I think their expectation is maybe not what it was,
[50:44] Speaker 2: but they watch, they're watching Texas tech BYU in the
[50:47] Speaker 2: big 12.
[50:47] Speaker 1: Well, my thing is they're like, why can't we be
[50:50] Speaker 1: as good as Wisconsin?
[50:51] Speaker 2: Right.
[50:52] Speaker 1: But as of right now, Wisconsin also stinks. Right. But
[50:54] Speaker 1: with North Carolina. So I think that those schools you describe,
[50:59] Speaker 1: I guess, generally speaking.
[51:01] Speaker 2: Yeah. I all did tier one types.
[51:03] Speaker 6: Yeah.
[51:03] Speaker 3: Yeah.
[51:03] Speaker 5: Yeah.
[51:03] Speaker 1: But I guess what I'm saying is this, I think
[51:04] Speaker 1: they are all very upset about being mediocre.
[51:07] Speaker 3: Right.
[51:08] Speaker 1: But not because they look at Vanderbilt and are like, yo,
[51:13] Speaker 1: what about us?
[51:14] Speaker 2: Right.
[51:14] Speaker 1: I think North Carolina, they look at Vanderbilt.
[51:18] Speaker 3: Right.
[51:19] Speaker 1: They look at Indiana, especially a basketball school. Right. They
[51:23] Speaker 1: look at them and they're like, OK, now we have
[51:25] Speaker 1: no excuse. Florida State looks at that, and they're just
[51:28] Speaker 1: even more offended. But North Carolina is like, so what's
[51:30] Speaker 1: wrong with us, huh? At least Florida State, they got
[51:33] Speaker 1: a proof of concept. They have reason to believe that
[51:36] Speaker 1: it can be something. North Carolina's like, oh, so we
[51:38] Speaker 1: went and hired the greatest football coach in the history
[51:40] Speaker 1: of Earth.
[51:42] Speaker 2: And we still stink.
[51:43] Speaker 1: And we still 80 out here embarrassing us.
[51:47] Speaker 2: All right, here's our next one.
[51:49] Speaker 4: Hey, Bomani, this is Ron in Tennessee. I'm a long-time listener, long-lived,
[51:54] Speaker 4: the Morning Jones. Hey, man, I got a question for you.
[51:58] Speaker 4: I'm a diehard Lakers fan, by the way, so take
[52:01] Speaker 4: that as an aside. But why do we keep saying
[52:05] Speaker 4: that Ty Lue is such a great coach? It's never
[52:08] Speaker 4: his fault. The last five years.
[52:11] Speaker 6: The Clippers, with all the talent that's gone back and
[52:14] Speaker 6: forth in all the different categories, manufacturing of these dream
[52:19] Speaker 6: rosters and everything else, I think they have won 50
[52:21] Speaker 6: wins in the last five years.
[52:24] Speaker 4: Maybe this is a loss.
[52:24] Speaker 2: Oh, wow.
[52:26] Speaker 6: Maybe to the Western Conference Finals in 2021.
[52:30] Speaker 2: They've not won shit.
[52:32] Speaker 6: Ty Lue is always a great coach, especially given the
[52:35] Speaker 6: fact that how he just unceremoniously told Chris Paul, as
[52:41] Speaker 6: you put it, to call us Tyrone. And they're 5-16
[52:44] Speaker 6: this year. Why does he always get a pass? Why
[52:48] Speaker 6: do we always say he's such a great coach and
[52:49] Speaker 6: he ain't did shit?
[52:51] Speaker 1: Go Lakers.
[52:52] Speaker 2: Appreciate you, Balani.
[52:55] Speaker 1: One of my favorite things about Lakers fans in the last,
[52:59] Speaker 1: we'll call it 15 years, right? Remember that year when
[53:04] Speaker 1: they had Dwight Howard and they had to scrape to
[53:06] Speaker 1: make it to the playoffs? I used to send out
[53:08] Speaker 1: a hashtag called, this is who you are now. because
[53:12] Speaker 1: they used to get on teams who were just happy
[53:14] Speaker 1: to go to the playoffs, and then they was on
[53:16] Speaker 1: Twitter all happy about going to the playoffs. And I
[53:18] Speaker 1: was like, this is who you are now. Lakers fans
[53:21] Speaker 1: have become different people than they used to be because
[53:25] Speaker 1: circumstances have changed. Circumstances change men. Men don't change circumstances.
[53:30] Speaker 1: I forget what book I read that in, but it's
[53:33] Speaker 1: a great book.
[53:34] Speaker 2: That's a great line. Right, right.
[53:36] Speaker 1: Anyway, so the Lakers have been changed, and They will
[53:40] Speaker 1: never believe the Clippers are their rival. But they are
[53:44] Speaker 1: much more concerned with explaining why the Clippers are not
[53:47] Speaker 1: their rival.
[53:48] Speaker 2: Than they used to be.
[53:48] Speaker 1: Than they ever were before, right? And so this is
[53:51] Speaker 1: one of my favorite subsets is Lakers fans talking down
[53:56] Speaker 1: on the Clippers. And I guess I would say the
[54:00] Speaker 1: Clippers have definitely been a better team the last 10 years.
[54:02] Speaker 1: Except the Lakers do have that championship.
[54:03] Speaker 2: They do.
[54:04] Speaker 1: Right? They do have that. But to add, it is
[54:08] Speaker 1: a fair question for you to ask. I do think
[54:10] Speaker 1: that Lou is a good coach. I don't know how
[54:14] Speaker 1: much of this is his fault, but don't you worry, buddy.
[54:17] Speaker 1: He'll be getting some blame. I'm shocked they haven't fired
[54:21] Speaker 1: him yet. Five of 16 gets you fired.
[54:25] Speaker 2: I think they have other things going on.
[54:27] Speaker 1: They do.
[54:28] Speaker 2: I think one thing that helps Ty Lou is he's
[54:31] Speaker 2: never been the biggest culprit. You could always blame... kawaii
[54:36] Speaker 2: you can always blame so like when whenever you're not
[54:39] Speaker 2: the worst issue you sometimes you manage to skate.
[54:43] Speaker 1: By yeah i think that is probably the best way
[54:47] Speaker 1: for us to put this but i do think it
[54:49] Speaker 1: is fair to say that there is a measure of
[54:53] Speaker 1: there there's some skating going on there's some skating.
[54:57] Speaker 6: All right here's our last one what's up omani uh
[55:00] Speaker 6: just heard the podcast yeah.
[55:03] Speaker 5: And somebody was talking about the first time they took
[55:04] Speaker 5: a walk with their cousin. I remember the first time
[55:07] Speaker 5: I took a walk with my cousins, because it was
[55:10] Speaker 5: a group of us, we was in Yosemite National Park.
[55:13] Speaker 5: And I didn't know what we was going for either.
[55:15] Speaker 5: I thought we was just walking because we was at
[55:17] Speaker 5: a campsite. And we walking and we walking. And then they,
[55:21] Speaker 5: you know, then they pull out like.
[55:23] Speaker 3: Oh, okay, this is what we're doing?
[55:24] Speaker 5: Oh, I didn't know we was doing this. And on
[55:27] Speaker 5: the way, we got lost on the way back to
[55:30] Speaker 5: the campsite. And good thing we got lost because if
[55:36] Speaker 5: we made it back exactly where we were supposed to,
[55:39] Speaker 5: we would have ran into a bear. And we came
[55:43] Speaker 5: back about 90 seconds later, and my family is running
[55:48] Speaker 5: around screaming for their life. And we're like, what happened?
[55:51] Speaker 5: What happened? Oh, y'all didn't see that bear? Nope, sure
[55:56] Speaker 5: didn't because we got lost on the walk with my cousin,
[56:01] Speaker 5: Cordae from the Bay.
[56:07] Speaker 1: Right. First of all, that is an amazing story. I
[56:13] Speaker 1: don't know what y'all would have took another walk if
[56:16] Speaker 1: y'all would have got some left. Right.
[56:18] Speaker 2: Yeah.
[56:19] Speaker 1: If y'all had encountered the bear.
[56:20] Speaker 5: But.
[56:22] Speaker 1: I'll feel bad about asking this question, not even in
[56:25] Speaker 1: front of Ryan. He said he, Corday from the Bay,
[56:29] Speaker 1: said they was at Yosemite. And I'm like, brother, was
[56:32] Speaker 1: you adopted?
[56:34] Speaker 2: I saw that look on your face.
[56:36] Speaker 1: It was on your face too. You just get to
[56:40] Speaker 1: listen to these for the first time in private. I
[56:42] Speaker 1: was like, huh, you guys are okay. Okay. You know,
[56:46] Speaker 1: West coast, y'all look different. I don't even know. Okay.
[56:49] Speaker 1: I got you. I got you.
[56:51] Speaker 2: Groups can mix.
[56:52] Speaker 1: Yeah.
[56:52] Speaker 3: Yeah.
[56:52] Speaker 5: Yeah.
[56:53] Speaker 1: This is, there's a, that's a, that's a serious, serious story.
[56:56] Speaker 1: I just want to, I want to know what it's
[56:59] Speaker 1: like when y'all got back to the bay and explain
[57:01] Speaker 1: to the other black people that y'all ran up on
[57:03] Speaker 1: a bear and After y'all had took a walk in Yosemite,
[57:06] Speaker 1: I told y'all not to go out there. Hey, man,
[57:09] Speaker 1: I told y'all not to go out there, man. You know, like, oh,
[57:13] Speaker 1: my God. That was that.
[57:15] Speaker 3: Wow.
[57:16] Speaker 1: That was absolutely amazing. Thank you, Cordae from the Bay.
[57:20] Speaker 1: You you you really made my day better with that story.
