[0:05] Speaker 1: Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the right time, a wave original.
[0:09] Speaker 1: My name is Beaumontie Jones. Thanks for listening wherever you
[0:11] Speaker 1: get your podcast. Thanks for watching us on YouTube. Subscribe, like,
[0:15] Speaker 1: rate us, review us, give us five stars. You only
[0:18] Speaker 1: give us four stars. I'm inclined to believe you are
[0:20] Speaker 1: a hater. It is Deontay Lee Friday. Deontay Lee of
[0:24] Speaker 1: the Ranga by popular demand has returned.
[0:26] Speaker 2: What's going on, man?
[0:28] Speaker 3: Listen, I like Dominique. I don't need Dominique running down
[0:31] Speaker 3: my back. I'm not trying to take your corners, brother.
[0:34] Speaker 1: Dominique gave that corner away, brother. We ain't trying to
[0:37] Speaker 1: hear that shit from him. It is a rotating corner now.
[0:42] Speaker 1: This is what it is. I also hadn't really noticed
[0:44] Speaker 1: the last time you wanted these persistent hairline cats.
[0:49] Speaker 2: That's... Look, I.
[0:51] Speaker 3: Try to keep it up as much as possible. The
[0:53] Speaker 3: way I look at it is my barbershop is across
[0:55] Speaker 3: the street from where I live. I really don't have
[0:57] Speaker 3: an excuse not to be there other than the fact
[0:59] Speaker 3: that these prices is going up. I got to budget
[1:02] Speaker 3: it properly, but I try to get in as often.
[1:04] Speaker 1: As I can.
[1:04] Speaker 2: What haircut hit 40 days? I honestly have no idea.
[1:07] Speaker 3: I'm a San Diego native, so we're very competitive with
[1:10] Speaker 3: where market rates are at. I would say this probably
[1:13] Speaker 3: runs me about $ 60 before I get to tip if
[1:16] Speaker 3: I do full head plus hairline.
[1:18] Speaker 2: A haircut costs... 60.
[1:20] Speaker 3: 60. Yeah.
[1:24] Speaker 1: I really don't understand how it don't look like the
[1:27] Speaker 1: 95 Bulls outside. The 99 Pacers.
[1:31] Speaker 2: I don't really get that.
[1:32] Speaker 3: Due to knowledge. That's what I.
[1:36] Speaker 1: Was about to say. That's what I was about to say.
[1:38] Speaker 1: We all out here. Fredro changed the world. And for
[1:42] Speaker 1: those who have not seen that clip, that is the
[1:44] Speaker 1: funniest thing in the world. When Fredro Starr swears up
[1:46] Speaker 1: and down that Michael Jordan shaved his head.
[1:49] Speaker 2: Because of Onyx. Because of Onyx. Yo, crazy things have happened.
[1:54] Speaker 1: I'm going to pull this up on my phone and
[1:56] Speaker 1: play the audio here. I don't know if you have
[2:00] Speaker 1: seen this, but you do some high school football coaching.
[2:03] Speaker 1: So I want to ask you about this because I
[2:04] Speaker 1: talked about it a little last week. But good for
[2:07] Speaker 1: the Arizona Cardinals for playing a pretty good game last week.
[2:11] Speaker 1: But at the same time, I took the fact that
[2:14] Speaker 1: he got fined $ 100, 000 as a sign that I don't
[2:17] Speaker 1: know how long this thing is going to hold up.
[2:19] Speaker 2: That they've got going there. Like, what did you think.
[2:21] Speaker 1: As coach of seeing, once we realized that he has
[2:24] Speaker 1: put his hands on that grown man in that way?
[2:27] Speaker 3: I think that, like everybody, the first thought is like, damn,
[2:30] Speaker 3: 100 racks is a lot. That's a lot for a
[2:33] Speaker 3: coach's fine, for what seemed to just be a guy
[2:36] Speaker 3: being very heated in the moment. But then the moment
[2:38] Speaker 3: I got out of that and I started thinking, what
[2:41] Speaker 3: is he like in the building? That when that happened,
[2:44] Speaker 3: his GM... or his assistants, or the owner, looked and said,
[2:48] Speaker 3: all right, we have now crossed the threshold. Homeboy has
[2:51] Speaker 3: been pushing this line maybe a little bit too far,
[2:53] Speaker 3: and we have crossed it, and now we've got to
[2:55] Speaker 3: start dialing this thing back. So I'm with you. I'm
[2:58] Speaker 3: with you on that. I don't know how much longer
[3:00] Speaker 3: we got on this.
[3:01] Speaker 2: Would you like an idea, apparently, of what kind of
[3:03] Speaker 2: guy he is?
[3:04] Speaker 1: This is audio from his press availability this week, and
[3:09] Speaker 1: I was not aware that Jonathan Gannon had been an
[3:12] Speaker 1: assistant coach on the 2007 season.
[3:14] Speaker 2: Atlanta Falcons.
[3:16] Speaker 1: And this is how I found out he had been.
[3:19] Speaker 1: 2007 when our quarterback went to jail. 2007.
[3:43] Speaker 2: When the quarterback went to jail.
[3:46] Speaker 3: There's nothing better than somebody being at a press conference
[3:50] Speaker 3: and giving an answer that makes everybody in the press
[3:53] Speaker 3: just sit with what they just heard. That silence was palpable.
[3:57] Speaker 1: So here's the thing about it, and this is what
[3:59] Speaker 1: tells me what it's like to be around him, or
[4:01] Speaker 1: at least what it's like to be around him that day, right?
[4:05] Speaker 1: There are many ways to have given that exact same answer. Like, well,
[4:08] Speaker 1: you know, when I first got to the NFL, we
[4:10] Speaker 1: wound up in a situation with the Falcons where we
[4:12] Speaker 1: had the Michael Vick situation, which obviously was a tragedy. But,
[4:16] Speaker 1: you know, you realize at that moment, hey, sometimes you're
[4:18] Speaker 1: not going to have guys. Sometimes things just aren't going to.
[4:20] Speaker 2: Go the way.
[4:21] Speaker 1: He could have very easily said that. That's... That's what
[4:25] Speaker 1: he said, but it ain't how he said it.
[4:27] Speaker 3: You could have just said early in my coaching career. Okay.
[4:31] Speaker 3: Been through adversity as a coach. Had things happen that
[4:34] Speaker 3: were out of my control. You don't have to call
[4:37] Speaker 3: back to that specific memory in that way.
[4:39] Speaker 2: He did have to call back because that was the
[4:41] Speaker 2: exact moment.
[4:43] Speaker 1: He knew exactly when he realized he had to stop
[4:47] Speaker 1: doing that. When he got a call that the whole
[4:50] Speaker 1: reason that he took the job was going to jail. Right.
[4:54] Speaker 3: And I can only imagine because he got to start
[4:56] Speaker 3: with Petrino at Louisville. I can only imagine what those
[4:59] Speaker 3: conversations were like.
[5:00] Speaker 2: Like, hey, man.
[5:01] Speaker 3: I want to build a life some way or, you know,
[5:03] Speaker 3: he might have had a significant other at this time.
[5:05] Speaker 3: I got to go home and tell my wife or
[5:07] Speaker 3: my girlfriend that the whole reason why I'm getting paid
[5:10] Speaker 3: is about to be behind bars.
[5:11] Speaker 1: I mean, you've made the fraught decision to hitch your
[5:14] Speaker 1: wagon to a man as untrustworthy as Bobby Petrito.
[5:17] Speaker 3: Yes, to begin with.
[5:18] Speaker 2: Then this happens. Oh, my goodness.
[5:21] Speaker 3: But all right.
[5:21] Speaker 1: We got us a week of NFL football that, you know.
[5:25] Speaker 2: We're in our bi-week era, right? This is where we are.
[5:29] Speaker 1: I feel in a lot of ways like it's hard
[5:33] Speaker 1: not to do a lot of rewind on this season
[5:36] Speaker 1: because we don't have great teams. But I do think
[5:39] Speaker 1: we have interesting teams. And I want to stop talking
[5:43] Speaker 1: about the Eagles. I really, really do. But it never
[5:47] Speaker 1: stops being totally fascinating what's going on here. So now
[5:51] Speaker 1: they've got this game here against Minnesota and.
[5:56] Speaker 2: If they go to four.
[5:56] Speaker 3: And three, you cannot lose this football game.
[6:00] Speaker 2: Even on the road?
[6:02] Speaker 3: You cannot lose this football game because it don't seem
[6:04] Speaker 3: like J.J. McCarthy is going to play. I know he's
[6:06] Speaker 3: been limited in practice. So you're looking at Carson Wentz,
[6:09] Speaker 3: a guy that you quickly jettisoned out the door when
[6:12] Speaker 3: it was time. And you've got your quarterback who's struggling
[6:15] Speaker 3: in your offense that's struggling. You cannot afford to lose
[6:19] Speaker 3: this football game. We haven't even gotten to the fact
[6:24] Speaker 3: that every time I hear the wide receiver come to
[6:26] Speaker 3: the press conference, it sounds like he's talking with clenched
[6:28] Speaker 3: fists and gritted teeth.
[6:31] Speaker 2: That's just one of them.
[6:33] Speaker 3: That's just one of them. That's the one who's willing
[6:35] Speaker 3: to say it publicly. The other one is a little
[6:37] Speaker 3: bit better at finessing his way through. He's got the
[6:40] Speaker 3: Nick Saban media training, so he knows how to kind
[6:42] Speaker 3: of talk around his situations in Devontae Smith. And then
[6:46] Speaker 3: I'm looking at the head coach and the offensive coordinator,
[6:48] Speaker 3: and I know that you've said this multiple times. I'm
[6:50] Speaker 3: looking like, hey, man, what do you do here?
[6:52] Speaker 2: What do you do?
[6:55] Speaker 3: If this is what you're dealing with, why is this
[6:56] Speaker 3: problem not fixed? You don't call plays. You're not one
[6:59] Speaker 3: of these Shanahan guys. You're not a coach GM type.
[7:02] Speaker 3: We know who runs the roster here. The owner is
[7:04] Speaker 3: the one who was given all the directives. Your job
[7:07] Speaker 3: specifically is to make sure there are smiles on the
[7:09] Speaker 3: faces of the 53 guys in the locker room.
[7:11] Speaker 2: You say he's supposed to bring the oranges.
[7:14] Speaker 3: You the vibes guy. You're supposed to be the vibes guy.
[7:17] Speaker 3: And that's what he was sold as in the first place.
[7:19] Speaker 3: When he got hired, he was wearing the graphic tees
[7:21] Speaker 3: with Rocky and the Sixers and all this stuff, and
[7:24] Speaker 3: everybody was feeling great. And now all we've got are
[7:27] Speaker 3: shaved heads when things go sideways and a bunch of
[7:30] Speaker 3: sucking your teeth and rolling eyes and not wanting to
[7:34] Speaker 3: admit to the fact that you might have made a
[7:35] Speaker 3: mistake by hiring your buddy to call this offense.
[7:38] Speaker 1: Well, let's also think about this, right? There there's so
[7:45] Speaker 1: many ways to view what is going on with this team. And,
[7:49] Speaker 1: you know, one of them is obviously I think it's
[7:51] Speaker 1: interesting with Jalen Hurts where Jalen Hurts gives you a
[7:54] Speaker 1: turbo booster if everything else is going right. And then
[7:58] Speaker 1: if not everything else is going right, there's a chance
[8:01] Speaker 1: that he becomes what is not going right. I think
[8:08] Speaker 1: something that is very interesting that happens to us with
[8:10] Speaker 1: football teams is we act like. we've never watched football before.
[8:16] Speaker 1: And that there isn't a measure of variance from year
[8:19] Speaker 1: to year. So remember when the Bucks won that Super
[8:21] Speaker 1: Bowl in the COVID year, and then we kept talking
[8:24] Speaker 1: about it like a college.
[8:25] Speaker 2: Team, they're bringing back 22 starters. Are you sure that
[8:28] Speaker 2: you want to have all 22 back? Right? Like, is
[8:31] Speaker 2: that what it is?
[8:32] Speaker 1: The changes you do and the changes you don't make
[8:34] Speaker 1: are so much more important. But when the coach is
[8:38] Speaker 1: the vibes guy, And the quarterback, clearly, who is a
[8:42] Speaker 1: coach's son, is looking at the vibes guy like, hey, man,
[8:47] Speaker 1: this ain't no real coaching. Like, say what you want
[8:49] Speaker 1: about Jalen Hurts. We always say we love the coach's son,
[8:53] Speaker 1: but the coach's son is a tough audience.
[8:55] Speaker 2: Tough, tough audience.
[8:57] Speaker 1: It's like being the quarterback's son. Being Peyton Manning's coach
[9:00] Speaker 1: was not an easy job.
[9:01] Speaker 2: That's a really tough audience.
[9:04] Speaker 3: This is also another guy who comes from the Nick
[9:06] Speaker 3: Saban school and he doesn't seem to be the guy
[9:08] Speaker 3: that I'm just here to work hard and go home.
[9:10] Speaker 3: Obviously that's a part of his thing. He also seems
[9:13] Speaker 3: like the Nick Saban guy in the sense that if
[9:15] Speaker 3: something's wrong, you're going to know. Yes. And when he
[9:18] Speaker 3: shows up, at these press conferences, it always sounds like,
[9:21] Speaker 3: oh yeah, we talked and we seem to come to
[9:23] Speaker 3: an understanding. And I always hear that as Jalen Hurts
[9:26] Speaker 3: is going into office saying, this is what I want
[9:28] Speaker 3: to do. Can we make that happen? And less like
[9:31] Speaker 3: Kevin Petullo saying, this is the game plan for the week.
[9:34] Speaker 3: And I think that even with that, that's causing other
[9:36] Speaker 3: layers of issues as well, because now your wide receivers
[9:39] Speaker 3: feel like they're not getting enough opportunities. And, you know,
[9:42] Speaker 3: I know I'm not the only person to make this comparison,
[9:44] Speaker 3: but I look at Jalen and I think of him
[9:46] Speaker 3: as Russell Wilson in a lot of ways, right? He
[9:48] Speaker 3: might not be as weird or quirky at this stage
[9:52] Speaker 3: in his career, but it's very much whatever is happening
[9:55] Speaker 3: on the field is a direct result of what he
[9:57] Speaker 3: wants as a quarterback. And I don't know right now
[9:59] Speaker 3: if that's what's serving the best interest of this team.
[10:02] Speaker 1: The other thing about this team is, for reasons good
[10:04] Speaker 1: and bad, it's just always a new coordinator. They fire coordinators.
[10:08] Speaker 1: They've had coordinators go on to get better jobs. Like,
[10:11] Speaker 1: nothing is ever the same with this team. The Sirianni
[10:14] Speaker 1: era has been a rollercoaster, unlike any rollercoaster I believe
[10:17] Speaker 1: that I have ever seen.
[10:19] Speaker 4: Yeah.
[10:20] Speaker 3: I've never seen a team this good have this many problems,
[10:22] Speaker 3: this many headaches on a year-to-year basis. And I think that,
[10:26] Speaker 3: I don't know if you heard Lane Johnson after the
[10:28] Speaker 3: Thursday night game, speaking with Josina Anderson, and he sounds, A,
[10:33] Speaker 3: like a guy who's very tired, right? And very annoyed
[10:36] Speaker 3: when things go wrong, for one. But past that, he
[10:40] Speaker 3: is another guy who's willing to say, we're too predictable.
[10:43] Speaker 3: I need my head coach to kind of take the
[10:46] Speaker 3: reins of this because he should know what it takes
[10:48] Speaker 3: to win. He should know how to develop an offensive
[10:51] Speaker 3: coordinator because these guys have shuffled in and out. And
[10:54] Speaker 3: where we need to go to get back to what
[10:56] Speaker 3: it was in 2022, 2023, in the back half of 2024,
[10:59] Speaker 3: when this offense was moving the ball and the fact
[11:02] Speaker 3: that it's not and guys seem to be a little
[11:04] Speaker 3: angsty and people are banged up. I don't know if
[11:07] Speaker 3: you guys have noticed that they can't really run the
[11:09] Speaker 3: ball no more. I don't think the Saquon Barkley stopped
[11:11] Speaker 3: being fast. I think that The big guys up front
[11:14] Speaker 3: have 550 snaps of running the ball and touch pushes
[11:19] Speaker 3: on their body, and they look like it a little bit.
[11:21] Speaker 3: And if he's not there and that line's not there
[11:24] Speaker 3: the way it needs to be, we are running out
[11:26] Speaker 3: of options for this offense to be as good as
[11:27] Speaker 3: it should be.
[11:27] Speaker 2: Hold on.
[11:28] Speaker 1: What if two things are true at once? Because I
[11:30] Speaker 1: did think that Mekhi Becton at right guard is a
[11:33] Speaker 1: cheat code for run blocking.
[11:35] Speaker 3: 100%. Right?
[11:36] Speaker 2: And they don't have that anymore.
[11:37] Speaker 1: But also— Saquon Barkley is not young for a running back.
[11:42] Speaker 1: And that was a lot of yards and a lot
[11:44] Speaker 1: of touches last year. Like this is again, we act
[11:47] Speaker 1: like we've never watched football before, right? These, these things
[11:51] Speaker 1: happen from time to time. So he might be fast,
[11:53] Speaker 1: but the margins are thin.
[11:55] Speaker 2: You know what I mean? Like, like what it takes to.
[11:57] Speaker 1: Be that guy. Like, I feel like a 2000 yard season.
[12:00] Speaker 1: One of my buddies told me about making music that
[12:04] Speaker 1: the DOC.
[12:04] Speaker 2: Once told him.
[12:06] Speaker 1: That to make a classic album, three people have to
[12:08] Speaker 1: be operating at top of their game, like at a
[12:11] Speaker 1: Hall of Fame level to do a classic album.
[12:14] Speaker 2: I feel like a 2,000-yard.
[12:15] Speaker 1: Rushing season involves a similar level of everything coming up Milhouse, right?
[12:23] Speaker 3: For sure.
[12:23] Speaker 2: And a couple of those things are off.
[12:25] Speaker 1: But I just realized the thing I wanted to talk
[12:27] Speaker 1: to you about that's a bit broader that I think
[12:29] Speaker 1: is interesting. Ryan and I had been looking at this,
[12:31] Speaker 1: and I am blindsiding you with this to a degree.
[12:34] Speaker 1: But did you see the thing that ESPN did where
[12:36] Speaker 1: they were just basically looking at how all these number
[12:39] Speaker 1: one picks at quarterback, the next year their head coaches
[12:42] Speaker 1: have all been fired?
[12:43] Speaker 3: I think I've seen a tweet about it. I have
[12:46] Speaker 3: seen a tweet about that. And I know that this
[12:48] Speaker 3: has been a conversation that you've had on this show
[12:50] Speaker 3: a bunch about needing to be a little bit more
[12:52] Speaker 3: mindful that these guys don't leave college ready to lead
[12:55] Speaker 3: a franchise that was bad the year before they got there.
[12:58] Speaker 3: And that these teams, for whatever reason, bring these head
[13:01] Speaker 3: coaches on from one year to the next knowing that
[13:04] Speaker 3: they don't have the juice and hoping that a rookie
[13:06] Speaker 3: quarterback is going to save everybody's job. And when it
[13:09] Speaker 3: doesn't go right, now we are starting all over. And,
[13:12] Speaker 3: you know, Tennessee obviously being the most recent example, but
[13:15] Speaker 3: we have seen this over the last decade really of
[13:18] Speaker 3: teams hiring quarter, or excuse me, drafting quarterbacks with dead,
[13:22] Speaker 3: you know, kind of lame duck head coaches and expecting
[13:24] Speaker 3: everything to work out and then being shocked when it
[13:26] Speaker 3: does not.
[13:27] Speaker 1: So I had an interesting thought when I saw this.
[13:29] Speaker 1: So for example, Jameis Winston said, They fired the head coach.
[13:33] Speaker 2: The year after that.
[13:34] Speaker 1: Jarrett Goff, they fired the head coach the year after that.
[13:39] Speaker 1: Baker Mayfield, I believe they fired the head coach the
[13:42] Speaker 1: same year. Kyler Murray, they hired the coach specifically for him.
[13:49] Speaker 2: Put a pin in that thought. Trevor Lawrence, they fired
[13:54] Speaker 2: his guy. Joe Burrow... No, they've kept his guy for
[13:58] Speaker 2: better or worse. For better or worse, they have kept
[14:02] Speaker 2: his guy.
[14:04] Speaker 1: Ken Ward, they just fired his guy. Who was the
[14:06] Speaker 1: number one pick last year? Because I feel like they
[14:08] Speaker 1: fired his guy.
[14:10] Speaker 3: Caleb Williams.
[14:10] Speaker 2: Caleb Williams. Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. They fired his guy quick.
[14:13] Speaker 1: And then the year before that was Bryce Young, and
[14:15] Speaker 1: they fired his guy quick. My thought is this. If
[14:21] Speaker 1: you're going to get the rookie quarterback position, you probably
[14:25] Speaker 1: should go ahead and fire your coach now. And the
[14:28] Speaker 1: reason you should probably fire your coach now is you're
[14:31] Speaker 1: probably going to fire your coach because you're probably bad
[14:35] Speaker 1: enough that you're already behind the eight ball and that
[14:39] Speaker 1: rookie is not going to save you.
[14:41] Speaker 2: And they're going to be like, oh, we got it.
[14:43] Speaker 2: Once the ball gets rolling on firing you, then that
[14:45] Speaker 2: ball just kind of doesn't stop. Because I actually go
[14:48] Speaker 2: through that list and.
[14:49] Speaker 1: I realize, oh, this is what happens when we don't
[14:51] Speaker 1: offer context. Case in point, they fired Jameis' head coach
[14:57] Speaker 1: in the name of continuity because it's so crazy to
[15:00] Speaker 1: look back on. They were afraid that somebody was going
[15:02] Speaker 1: to hire Dirk Cutter and they had to have him
[15:05] Speaker 1: with Jameis. And so they kept Dirk Cutter and then...
[15:09] Speaker 1: fired him a couple years shortly thereafter right yeah jerry
[15:15] Speaker 1: goff yes they fired his coach the first year but
[15:17] Speaker 1: his coach was oh boy it was fitty fitty jeff
[15:20] Speaker 1: fisher and who did they bring in to replace him
[15:24] Speaker 1: the best thing that could have ever happened to jerry
[15:26] Speaker 1: goff they brought in sean mcveigh that worked out okay
[15:29] Speaker 1: they fired hugh jackson on baker mayfield and then brought in,
[15:34] Speaker 1: I guess, was Stefanski got the job.
[15:37] Speaker 2: Oh, I forgot. I forgot that even.
[15:39] Speaker 3: And that was a Baker call.
[15:41] Speaker 2: It was a Baker call.
[15:42] Speaker 3: That was a Baker call.
[15:43] Speaker 2: It was a Baker call.
[15:45] Speaker 1: Trevor Lawrence, they made literally one of the worst head
[15:48] Speaker 1: coaching hires of all time. With Bryce Young, they thought
[15:54] Speaker 1: they were hiring a quarterback guy and.
[15:56] Speaker 2: Then immediately were like, hey, this is a horrible idea.
[15:59] Speaker 1: Which, by the way, most people who watch that team
[16:01] Speaker 1: thought that the Frank Reich thing was not going to happen.
[16:06] Speaker 2: Cato Williams, they should have fired Ivo Flusch. before the season.
[16:10] Speaker 1: Like people get a little bit too sentimental about firing people.
[16:14] Speaker 1: Sometimes you just got to do it.
[16:17] Speaker 3: When you know, you know. Right. When you know, you know.
[16:20] Speaker 3: And this most recent example with Cam Ward, I felt
[16:23] Speaker 3: like we knew this before we got to Halloween last year.
[16:26] Speaker 4: Right.
[16:26] Speaker 3: That Brian Callahan was not cut out for the gig.
[16:28] Speaker 3: Like when you're screaming at your second round quarterback that
[16:32] Speaker 3: everybody seemed to agree should not be a starter, but
[16:34] Speaker 3: you had to start because Ryan Tannehill was banged up.
[16:37] Speaker 3: And you're screaming on him for making all the same
[16:39] Speaker 3: mistakes that he was making at Kentucky. I think people
[16:41] Speaker 3: were looking around then like, hey, boss, if you can't
[16:43] Speaker 3: develop his way out of these problems and you're not
[16:46] Speaker 3: willing to accept it and this is burning you up emotionally,
[16:49] Speaker 3: this don't seem like a guy that's got the kind
[16:50] Speaker 3: of constitution to be able to handle losing in the
[16:53] Speaker 3: way that you're probably going to lose being the Tennessee
[16:56] Speaker 3: Titans at that point in time. The same was the
[17:00] Speaker 3: same was true of Iberflues, man, like. It didn't seem
[17:03] Speaker 3: like you ever had two hands on the wheel. You
[17:06] Speaker 3: knew before that season was over that he had to go.
[17:08] Speaker 3: I don't get the thinking there.
[17:10] Speaker 2: The truth is this. If it's not your guy, fire him.
[17:16] Speaker 1: If it comes to where you're at some other inflection
[17:19] Speaker 1: point of what it is that you're doing, if this
[17:22] Speaker 1: is not your guy, if you're not like, no, I
[17:26] Speaker 1: believe in him. If you're saying to yourself, we'll see.
[17:30] Speaker 1: And you're trying to turn over the quarterback.
[17:32] Speaker 3: No, no, no, no, no, no.
[17:33] Speaker 1: You need to go ahead and do all those things
[17:36] Speaker 1: all at one time. But we were bad enough to
[17:38] Speaker 1: get the number one overall pick and we're going to
[17:41] Speaker 1: keep the coach.
[17:42] Speaker 2: There's a world for you to do that.
[17:44] Speaker 1: Like, I don't think that that's an indefensible decision, but
[17:46] Speaker 1: you need to be invested in that guy.
[17:48] Speaker 2: The problem is if the rest.
[17:51] Speaker 1: Of the team, if he, if that dude loses team,
[17:54] Speaker 1: then you wind up having to fire him.
[17:57] Speaker 2: Like, I'm not saying these are easy decisions.
[18:00] Speaker 3: But still, I think that the other problem too is
[18:03] Speaker 3: that ownership gets a little, maybe gets a little hesitant
[18:06] Speaker 3: about if we fire the coach, what does that say
[18:08] Speaker 3: about my GM?
[18:09] Speaker 4: Yes.
[18:09] Speaker 3: And I think that the truth is you should probably
[18:12] Speaker 3: be cleaning house anyways, right? This chain of events probably
[18:16] Speaker 3: doesn't have to stop at head coach. If your roster
[18:18] Speaker 3: is bad enough to get the first overall pick and
[18:21] Speaker 3: you know you're going to get a quarterback, you are
[18:23] Speaker 3: now transitioning into a different phase of roster building, right?
[18:26] Speaker 3: Everybody knows that A rookie scale quarterback is the most
[18:29] Speaker 3: valuable asset that you can have in roster building. And
[18:32] Speaker 3: why would you entrust that to a coach that couldn't
[18:34] Speaker 3: win beforehand and a GM that couldn't build a roster
[18:37] Speaker 3: good enough to keep you away from having a number
[18:39] Speaker 3: one or a top three overall pick? in the NFL draft.
[18:42] Speaker 3: I think that it would make more sense for some
[18:44] Speaker 3: of these owners to just cut bait when you know
[18:46] Speaker 3: you're bad. When you're bad, the rot usually doesn't stop
[18:49] Speaker 3: at the roster. It typically goes all the way up
[18:51] Speaker 3: through the front office as well. And I think that
[18:54] Speaker 3: we would probably see less of quarterbacks basically wasting their
[18:57] Speaker 3: rookie years because they're stuck with GMs that don't know
[19:00] Speaker 3: how to build rosters. Trevor Lawrence, I think, has definitely
[19:02] Speaker 3: been a victim of that, having to suffer through the
[19:04] Speaker 3: Trent Baalke years longer than just dealing with Urban Meyer.
[19:08] Speaker 3: I think that Caleb Williams is probably going to be
[19:10] Speaker 3: struggling with that, with Ryan Poles, who continues to find
[19:13] Speaker 3: his way to getting extensions and additional time to build
[19:16] Speaker 3: a roster in spite of not having any returns on
[19:19] Speaker 3: the players that he's bringing in, basically. And I think
[19:21] Speaker 3: that Tennessee is going to be dealing with that because
[19:23] Speaker 3: Amy Adams Strunk has shown a reactivity to being embarrassed
[19:28] Speaker 3: that you usually don't see from the kind of owners
[19:30] Speaker 3: that build up winning franchises. And sometimes you just got
[19:33] Speaker 3: to bring in different leadership, people who can let owners
[19:36] Speaker 3: know that they can build something in a different vision
[19:38] Speaker 3: around a rookie quarterback. And I think the fear to
[19:41] Speaker 3: do so is why we're losing early development on so
[19:44] Speaker 3: many of these players.
[19:45] Speaker 2: Now, I will also make this point.
[19:48] Speaker 1: Obviously, there's a giant outlier in Titans slash Oilers history,
[19:52] Speaker 1: which is the tenure of Jeff Fisher.
[19:54] Speaker 2: But let me tell you who loved a knee jerk firing.
[20:00] Speaker 2: Amy Strunk's daddy, Bud.
[20:03] Speaker 1: But Adams made some moves and let some people go
[20:06] Speaker 1: and coached teams pretty well, but also was inclined to
[20:10] Speaker 1: similar moves.
[20:10] Speaker 2: But it becomes an interesting conversation.
[20:12] Speaker 1: I think, for example, the Lions in the first year
[20:16] Speaker 1: under Campbell started 0-10-1. Say that that is a two-win
[20:20] Speaker 1: team or whatever. I believe that Sheila Hamp would have
[20:26] Speaker 1: looked at the world and said, I believe in our
[20:27] Speaker 1: head coach and we're going to do this.
[20:30] Speaker 2: Because they believed in the head coach. That's what you
[20:32] Speaker 2: got to do.
[20:33] Speaker 1: The problem Aaron Glenn is having right now with the Jets,
[20:36] Speaker 1: because they look bad. I don't think anybody can stand
[20:39] Speaker 1: up and say that they believe in him right now.
[20:42] Speaker 1: And so if something happens and they wind up getting
[20:44] Speaker 1: the first pick, you're inclined to keep Aaron Glenn because
[20:48] Speaker 1: it was just the first year, right? You're inclined to
[20:51] Speaker 1: go ahead and do that. but you're gonna need to
[20:55] Speaker 1: fire him in all likelihood.
[20:57] Speaker 3: Eventually.
[20:57] Speaker 2: Because you don't believe in him.
[20:59] Speaker 1: And it's the, if you're gonna do it eventually, you
[21:01] Speaker 1: might as well do it immediately, right? Like, I think
[21:04] Speaker 1: that that becomes, you know, kind of the case, but
[21:08] Speaker 1: we have such unrealistic expectations. of how easy it is
[21:13] Speaker 1: or is not to hire a coach, hire a GM,
[21:18] Speaker 1: bring in a quarterback. What we're learning, I feel like,
[21:22] Speaker 1: is that the growth arc of these quarterbacks is so
[21:24] Speaker 1: much longer than people give it credit for being. But
[21:27] Speaker 1: the jobs that people have, the timetables that they have
[21:30] Speaker 1: to operate on in the name of success does not
[21:32] Speaker 1: go for that. So with Baker Mayfield, for example, I'm like, oh,
[21:35] Speaker 1: the Browns were out on Baker Mayfield.
[21:37] Speaker 2: Yeah, but.
[21:38] Speaker 1: Baker Mayfield, as he was, was going to get everybody fired.
[21:43] Speaker 1: They didn't have the, hey man, just give me three
[21:46] Speaker 1: more years and I'm telling you, he might be a
[21:48] Speaker 1: candidate for the MVP.
[21:51] Speaker 2: That's not on the board.
[21:52] Speaker 1: Sam Darnold, he bounced to all these places for the
[21:54] Speaker 1: same reasons, right? Those guys' job timelines, people don't have,
[22:00] Speaker 1: and it's because.
[22:00] Speaker 2: Our expectations are so crazy.
[22:02] Speaker 1: I think about living in New York, they tell you,
[22:06] Speaker 1: you're going to need to live in like three apartments
[22:08] Speaker 1: before you find yours.
[22:10] Speaker 2: That's just how it works, right?
[22:11] Speaker 1: Like you got to get an apartment because you need
[22:13] Speaker 1: somewhere to live. You don't have time to get all
[22:16] Speaker 1: the way to the bottom of it and figure out
[22:17] Speaker 1: everything you need and everything that's important. You figure that
[22:19] Speaker 1: shit out once you in there and you find it
[22:21] Speaker 1: all out.
[22:21] Speaker 2: The hard way, right?
[22:24] Speaker 1: Like this is how it works. You get your third
[22:25] Speaker 1: place and you're like, oh, okay. Now I understand that
[22:28] Speaker 1: this is what I want. When I was hosting a
[22:32] Speaker 1: late night show for HBO, important job is head writer
[22:37] Speaker 1: and people don't understand the head writer is the manager
[22:40] Speaker 1: of the writing staff that is to relay like what
[22:42] Speaker 1: you want to them but they're kind of a black
[22:44] Speaker 1: box it goes in between them but it's a process
[22:46] Speaker 1: and they're like hey man It probably takes a couple
[22:50] Speaker 1: of three before you find the right one. I had
[22:53] Speaker 1: two that were very talented, not necessarily the one, but
[22:57] Speaker 1: you don't have time to go back to the network
[22:59] Speaker 1: and be like, hey, man, if you give me two
[23:01] Speaker 1: more choices on a head writer, I promise you this
[23:04] Speaker 1: thing is going to stink and skyrocket.
[23:06] Speaker 2: And the people I work with did great jobs. You
[23:08] Speaker 2: know what I mean? But it's like, is it exactly
[23:09] Speaker 2: what you need?
[23:11] Speaker 1: But nobody has time for you to do what is
[23:14] Speaker 1: actually prudent and realistic.
[23:16] Speaker 2: Right.
[23:17] Speaker 3: And I think that similar to playing quarterback, there is
[23:20] Speaker 3: a high bar to clear to be one of the
[23:22] Speaker 3: good guys. We're talking about coaching and GMs, but the
[23:25] Speaker 3: threshold to clear to just be a guy isn't that high.
[23:28] Speaker 4: Right.
[23:28] Speaker 3: And if you only got a guy, then, yeah, you
[23:30] Speaker 3: probably need to your turnaround rate probably needs to be
[23:32] Speaker 3: a little bit higher. But we see in the NFL
[23:34] Speaker 3: and I think that with Detroit, one of the reasons
[23:37] Speaker 3: why it worked out is because Brad Holmes and Dan
[23:39] Speaker 3: Campbell were brought in in the same offseason. So anything
[23:42] Speaker 3: you were saying that was a vote of confidence for
[23:44] Speaker 3: one applied to the other. And I think that Detroit
[23:47] Speaker 3: knew we were going to ride this out with both
[23:49] Speaker 3: of these guys, no matter what. That's a much different
[23:53] Speaker 3: proposition than what's happening in Tennessee, for example, where Mike
[23:57] Speaker 3: Borgonzi is hired last season with the lame, with the
[23:59] Speaker 3: lame duck head coach and the president of football ops
[24:02] Speaker 3: was hired the season before that. And he's been there
[24:05] Speaker 3: through multiple guys getting fired and taking jobs beneath him
[24:08] Speaker 3: on the org chart. That's the kind, I think that,
[24:12] Speaker 3: It's more of those kind of incongruencies with how you're
[24:14] Speaker 3: hiring guys and how you're handling timelines with people that
[24:18] Speaker 3: ends up being reflected on the field. Because like you said,
[24:20] Speaker 3: all these guys' jobs are usually tied to how good
[24:22] Speaker 3: the quarterback is. And everybody wants to know in two years. Yep.
[24:25] Speaker 3: You basically got two and a half years to show
[24:28] Speaker 3: us something.
[24:28] Speaker 4: Yep.
[24:28] Speaker 3: And in a lot of cases, it turns into one
[24:30] Speaker 3: and a half if your head coach is already walking
[24:32] Speaker 3: in on the hot seat. So I think that... I
[24:36] Speaker 3: do think that it's tough. And like you said, not
[24:37] Speaker 3: everybody can be good at this job. But I think
[24:40] Speaker 3: that more often than not, we see guys in the
[24:42] Speaker 3: NFL that hold these positions and you look at what
[24:45] Speaker 3: you're seeing on the field and thinking, man, any old
[24:48] Speaker 3: coordinator can be promoted to this, this gig and put
[24:51] Speaker 3: out results just like this. It is difficult to find
[24:54] Speaker 3: the right guy, but just finding a guy is not
[24:57] Speaker 3: as hard to find. And usually the ones with just
[24:59] Speaker 3: a guy are the ones that are most liable to
[25:01] Speaker 3: end up picking high in the draft and needing to
[25:03] Speaker 3: be replaced.
[25:04] Speaker 2: Yeah, by the way, firing Brian Callahan, tremendous idea.
[25:08] Speaker 3: Yes.
[25:09] Speaker 2: Just so we're clear.
[25:11] Speaker 1: Anybody say it, like, you're not doing Cam Ward a
[25:15] Speaker 1: disservice by firing Brian Callahan because you think he needs continuity, right?
[25:21] Speaker 1: That's like my brother once said about This cat we
[25:24] Speaker 1: knew who had a son, and I said that it
[25:27] Speaker 1: was good that he was around with that son. And
[25:29] Speaker 1: my brother said, we're going to call the man John.
[25:32] Speaker 1: I'm not sure that having John for a daddy is
[25:34] Speaker 1: better than having no daddy at all.
[25:41] Speaker 2: That's where Brian Callahan's situation was with Ken Ward. Like, no, no,
[25:47] Speaker 2: don't beg your daddy to stay.
[25:50] Speaker 1: That man walking out that man going to get that
[25:52] Speaker 1: pack of cigarettes is the best thing that's ever happened to.
[25:54] Speaker 3: You yes let that man leave i mean jeff simmons
[25:58] Speaker 3: was kind of intimating as much after uh sunday talking
[26:01] Speaker 3: about yeah we came off a win and this was
[26:03] Speaker 3: as flat as we've ever been all season and again
[26:06] Speaker 3: that leads me back to the same place i was
[26:07] Speaker 3: at with nick sirianni where you got to look at
[26:09] Speaker 3: the head coach and say what do you do here
[26:12] Speaker 3: the offense ain't good The roster ain't good. The quarterback
[26:16] Speaker 3: don't look as good now as he did in college.
[26:19] Speaker 3: And the guys don't seem to be enjoying being around
[26:21] Speaker 3: each other. Why are we paying you to be here?
[26:24] Speaker 2: Why are you here? That is the question all of
[26:28] Speaker 2: us have to answer every single day. Why are you here?
[26:33] Speaker 2: Whether you like it or not, that is the bottom line.
[26:36] Speaker 1: Why are you here? And the second you're like, yeah.
[26:44] Speaker 1: You won't be there for long. All right, we'll be
[26:47] Speaker 1: back with more coming up next. All right, Ryan, DraftKings,
[26:52] Speaker 1: pick six.
[26:53] Speaker 2: What you got?
[26:54] Speaker 4: All right, I like two picks this week. I like
[26:56] Speaker 4: Rasheed Rice to score a rushing or receiving touchdown against
[26:59] Speaker 4: the Las Vegas Raiders in his debut back from his suspension.
[27:04] Speaker 4: I like Saquon Barkley also to score either a rushing
[27:06] Speaker 4: or receiving touchdown against the Minnesota Vikings. DraftKings Pick Sense

[28:09] Speaker 2: All right, we're back on with Deontay Lee.
[28:13] Speaker 1: This is one of those weeks where you could tell that, like,
[28:16] Speaker 1: the TV networks, we know what the game of the
[28:18] Speaker 1: week has to be just because it's the Commandos and the.
[28:22] Speaker 2: Cowboys, right?
[28:23] Speaker 1: That's what TV wants. But that time slot has also
[28:26] Speaker 1: given us the Colts and the Chargers. Where is your
[28:29] Speaker 1: belief level in both of these?
[28:33] Speaker 3: I'll start with the Colts because we didn't spend a
[28:35] Speaker 3: lot of time talking about it the last time I
[28:36] Speaker 3: was on. I think the more I watch, the more
[28:40] Speaker 3: I realize that me believing in this really doesn't have
[28:43] Speaker 3: anything to do with Daniel Jones, which is a tricky
[28:45] Speaker 3: proposition because that means that Daniel Jones at any time
[28:48] Speaker 3: can show up and take all this belief and put
[28:51] Speaker 3: it on the bottom of his shoe. But I do
[28:54] Speaker 3: think that, A, Jonathan Taylor is probably playing the best
[28:57] Speaker 3: out of anybody in his position right now. And Shane Steichen,
[29:00] Speaker 3: a guy who I wasn't sure had the juice– And
[29:02] Speaker 3: maybe this is a lot of this was Anthony Richardson related.
[29:05] Speaker 3: Now he's got a quarterback that he can trust. And
[29:08] Speaker 3: all of a sudden they're just dicing defenses up. Play action,
[29:12] Speaker 3: deep passes, RPOs, getting Daniel Jones involved as a runner.
[29:16] Speaker 3: All the things that they could not do with Richardson
[29:18] Speaker 3: as a starter all of a sudden aren't a problem anymore.
[29:21] Speaker 3: So I think I am becoming a believer because the
[29:23] Speaker 3: coaching staff looks like they have a grip on what
[29:25] Speaker 3: they want to do. And the people who need to
[29:28] Speaker 3: protect Daniel Jones are doing so at a very high
[29:31] Speaker 3: level right now.
[29:32] Speaker 1: Just want to point out for people who don't know,
[29:34] Speaker 1: Anthony Richardson was just trying to exercise, stay in shape,
[29:38] Speaker 1: be ready for his chance.
[29:39] Speaker 2: And somehow managed to break his face.
[29:43] Speaker 1: Listen i'm not by the way guys i'm not exaggerating
[29:47] Speaker 1: he was working out with them bands and he broke
[29:49] Speaker 1: his orbital boat he's having a really tough year guys
[29:52] Speaker 1: he's having a really really really tough.
[29:54] Speaker 3: Year Look, I don't know if this is an experience
[29:58] Speaker 3: you share, but when I was in college, I've been
[30:00] Speaker 3: in a couple of classes where you're kind of teetering
[30:03] Speaker 3: on the edge and you start going to office hours
[30:05] Speaker 3: and you feel like you're doing everything you need to do.
[30:08] Speaker 3: And then you look up one day and you're like,
[30:10] Speaker 3: oh shit, I had a paper that I needed to
[30:13] Speaker 3: turn in on Tuesday. And it is Monday afternoon. I
[30:17] Speaker 3: don't know if I'm going to get this in on time.
[30:18] Speaker 3: And if I don't get this in, all this work
[30:20] Speaker 3: will be for naught. I feel like Anthony Richardson is
[30:23] Speaker 3: kind of transition into that can't get right kind of territory. Yeah.
[30:27] Speaker 1: The other thing with the Colts is the Colts have
[30:29] Speaker 1: been beaten up on bums, generally speaking. I think that
[30:32] Speaker 1: we would all agree that they have, they have put
[30:35] Speaker 1: the hurt on a bunch of bums. When they play
[30:37] Speaker 1: decent teams, they beat the Broncos on paper and they
[30:42] Speaker 1: lost to the Rams, right?
[30:44] Speaker 3: Probably should have beaten the Rams.
[30:45] Speaker 4: Yes.
[30:45] Speaker 3: Not for A.D. Mitchell.
[30:47] Speaker 2: Oh, forgot about that. He's the, he's the OG. It's
[30:50] Speaker 2: their safe stack and they put his hands on him.
[30:53] Speaker 3: Right.
[30:53] Speaker 1: Right.
[30:53] Speaker 3: He was.
[30:54] Speaker 1: Although the thing about A.D. Mitchell was that was why
[30:57] Speaker 1: you wouldn't in the first round.
[30:58] Speaker 2: Right.
[30:59] Speaker 3: Exactly.
[30:59] Speaker 2: He's one of those like it's a wonder he don't
[31:01] Speaker 2: play for the Bengals.
[31:03] Speaker 3: Right.
[31:03] Speaker 1: He's the sort of space case that the Bengals love
[31:05] Speaker 1: to have dudes like that on the team.
[31:07] Speaker 2: He had George picking situations.
[31:09] Speaker 3: Yes, he's one of those guys you ask a coach
[31:11] Speaker 3: off the record. They're like, oh man, we love him.
[31:13] Speaker 3: But he'd be tripping. He'd be tripping.
[31:17] Speaker 2: But the Colts have.
[31:20] Speaker 1: They're going to play the Chargers, but after that, the
[31:22] Speaker 1: schedule ramps up, but kind of ramps up.
[31:26] Speaker 2: So they get to go play the Titans. That should
[31:28] Speaker 2: be a win. They get the Steelers.
[31:30] Speaker 1: We're not exactly sure how good they are.
[31:33] Speaker 2: We have.
[31:36] Speaker 1: I'm not going to encourage y'all to believe in this,
[31:38] Speaker 1: but the Atlanta Falcons keep looking good on national television.
[31:40] Speaker 1: Just throwing it out there.
[31:43] Speaker 2: Then they get the Chiefs.
[31:44] Speaker 1: They get the Texans, who might be a little better
[31:47] Speaker 1: than their record indicates. The Jaguars, who might not be
[31:51] Speaker 1: as good as their record indicates, but their record indicates
[31:54] Speaker 1: that they are good. The Seahawks, the 49ers, who, I mean,
[31:58] Speaker 1: by then, they may be down to 30 people. Jaguars again,
[32:02] Speaker 1: and then the Texans. Like, They're going to be tested,
[32:05] Speaker 1: I guess, is the moral of the story that I'm getting.
[32:08] Speaker 3: We'll know if they're a mediocre team beating up on
[32:10] Speaker 3: bad teams or if they're actually a good football team
[32:12] Speaker 3: pretty quickly, I think, down the stretch of this season.
[32:15] Speaker 2: Yeah, this is going to be something.
[32:17] Speaker 1: And look, the thing about Daniel Jones, you're like, they
[32:21] Speaker 1: haven't really needed Daniel Jones. But what we learned from
[32:23] Speaker 1: Sam Darnold last year is at some point you will.
[32:26] Speaker 1: you will right and even that's still the thing with
[32:28] Speaker 1: even seattle this.
[32:29] Speaker 2: Year with donald where it's like okay i am.
[32:32] Speaker 1: Seeing him doing a good job of getting the ball
[32:33] Speaker 1: to wide open dudes at some point we're gonna need
[32:36] Speaker 1: a little bit more than that or the stakes are
[32:38] Speaker 1: going to be higher and we're going to need you
[32:40] Speaker 1: to just have a different constitution right will you be
[32:45] Speaker 1: able to do that.
[32:46] Speaker 3: I mean i mean sam donald has proven that that's
[32:49] Speaker 3: just not really in his in his bag right like
[32:52] Speaker 3: And I think that if you're looking at the Seahawks
[32:54] Speaker 3: and comparing it to what we saw last year of Minnesota,
[32:57] Speaker 3: a lot of the same warning signs are there, right?
[32:59] Speaker 3: You are throwing to a lot of wide open guys.
[33:01] Speaker 3: You don't really have a lot of support from the
[33:02] Speaker 3: run game. And right now, taking all these chances are
[33:05] Speaker 3: going great. The moment the defenses start adding a little
[33:09] Speaker 3: bit more pressure, like they did to Minnesota last year,
[33:11] Speaker 3: and they don't have to respect the run game on
[33:13] Speaker 3: early downs at all. Now you got Sam Darnold in
[33:16] Speaker 3: the gun on first and 10 in a game that
[33:18] Speaker 3: you got to win. You don't want to live there
[33:20] Speaker 3: if Sam Darnold's your quarterback. And I think the same
[33:22] Speaker 3: thing is going to be true of Daniel Jones eventually.
[33:24] Speaker 3: You talk about the Texans who are great on defense.
[33:27] Speaker 3: Kansas City, whose defense has taken a step back, but
[33:29] Speaker 3: they can game plan against a limited quarterback as well
[33:31] Speaker 3: as anybody in the league. And, you know, the Jaguars,
[33:34] Speaker 3: of course, turnovers at different points. You're going to get
[33:37] Speaker 3: one of these games where Indianapolis is behind the game script.
[33:41] Speaker 3: They've got to score, you know, two or three times
[33:43] Speaker 3: in the second half to stay in the football game.
[33:45] Speaker 3: And that's when you're not going to be able to
[33:46] Speaker 3: hand the ball off to Jonathan Taylor 15, 20 times
[33:49] Speaker 3: and expect him to carry this thing on his back.
[33:52] Speaker 3: I mean, we've seen enough of Danny Jones to know
[33:54] Speaker 3: that's not where you want to live. I'm interested to see, though,
[33:57] Speaker 3: if he can do just enough to keep Indianapolis in
[34:00] Speaker 3: the playoff picture. And based off the way they've been
[34:02] Speaker 3: playing right now, I guess I'm a little bit more
[34:04] Speaker 3: inclined to give them some benefit of the doubt.
[34:07] Speaker 1: All right. The NFL is doing a thing. I really
[34:10] Speaker 1: don't like it when they do this. which is giving
[34:13] Speaker 1: us a London night in the morning game worth watching.
[34:16] Speaker 1: I guess it's a little different. You live over there
[34:17] Speaker 1: on the West. You got to be really, really a sicko.
[34:20] Speaker 1: But at the same time, Rams and Jaguars, huh?
[34:23] Speaker 2: Something there?
[34:25] Speaker 3: There is something there. I will tell you, as a
[34:27] Speaker 3: West Coast guy, I don't know if I have made
[34:30] Speaker 3: a single opening kickoff for one of these London games.
[34:33] Speaker 3: I'm sure. Sorry to my bosses. Sorry to my buddies
[34:37] Speaker 3: who live on the East Coast and cover the NFL
[34:39] Speaker 3: and got to be up to watch this. This is
[34:41] Speaker 3: the YouTube invitational for me when the game is not
[34:44] Speaker 3: very interesting. But I do think we're going to learn
[34:47] Speaker 3: a lot about the Rams because this is another team
[34:48] Speaker 3: that has looked good and have a lot of pieces
[34:51] Speaker 3: that will lead you to believe that they're a good team.
[34:53] Speaker 3: And sometimes I watch them and I'm like, man, it's
[34:56] Speaker 3: a whole lot, a whole lot of weight on the
[34:59] Speaker 3: back of a 37 year old who couldn't practice at
[35:01] Speaker 3: all in the offseason. I don't know how much longer
[35:03] Speaker 3: this thing is going to last.
[35:04] Speaker 1: Hey, look, man, it's the classic Stafford experience. When he
[35:08] Speaker 1: looks great, he looks great. But who wants an interception?
[35:13] Speaker 1: There's one right there.
[35:14] Speaker 3: Waiting on you.
[35:15] Speaker 2: It's coming. It's coming hard, though. You're going to need
[35:19] Speaker 2: to think fast. Look alive.
[35:21] Speaker 3: Oh, yeah. Had them gloves nice and sticky. Go ahead
[35:24] Speaker 3: and spit on them.
[35:25] Speaker 1: Gloves before the play. You're going to hear that bitch coming.
[35:29] Speaker 1: Just spit it through the air. But he's looked good
[35:34] Speaker 1: this year. He's looked really good.
[35:35] Speaker 2: The Jaguars....
[35:38] Speaker 1: How much attention have you paid to the Travis Hunter experiment?
[35:40] Speaker 1: Because I feel like they've taken a once-a-generation talent and
[35:46] Speaker 1: made him into just another dude on the field by
[35:48] Speaker 1: trying to make him into a superhero.
[35:51] Speaker 3: He's very normal. There are times where it's dynamic, and
[35:54] Speaker 3: I'm not blaming the fact that he looks normal on
[35:57] Speaker 3: Travis Hunter, because there are times where they get on
[35:59] Speaker 3: the ball on these glorified punt returns, these bubble screens,
[36:02] Speaker 3: these little checkdowns out in space, and he shakes a guy.
[36:05] Speaker 3: And it looks like, you know, if you've ever been
[36:07] Speaker 3: to a youth football game where you just sit in
[36:09] Speaker 3: the stands, you're like, oh, OK, that's the kid. And
[36:12] Speaker 3: then y'all are everybody else. There are some times where
[36:14] Speaker 3: you can still make it look like that, but it's
[36:16] Speaker 3: not as often. And I think that when you're watching
[36:19] Speaker 3: all 22, there are some times where maybe the offense
[36:22] Speaker 3: is checking a play or signaling or trying to get
[36:24] Speaker 3: from one formation to the next. And it don't necessarily
[36:27] Speaker 3: look like Travis Hunter knows exactly where to be yet.
[36:30] Speaker 3: And again, I can't blame that on him. You got
[36:32] Speaker 3: the man in two different meeting rooms throughout the week.
[36:35] Speaker 2: It's a lot.
[36:36] Speaker 3: All right. It's a lot.
[36:38] Speaker 2: How does. How is this not such an obviously bad idea?
[36:44] Speaker 2: I just can't. I see people dream on it.
[36:47] Speaker 1: How is this just not clearly not what you should do?
[36:51] Speaker 2: Like, I'm going to throw this out here. You expect
[36:54] Speaker 2: me to believe that Bo Jackson couldn't play linebacker, perhaps
[36:57] Speaker 2: edge rusher. You know what I mean? Like, you know,
[37:00] Speaker 2: I'm sure there are other people who could have done
[37:02] Speaker 2: these things, but their coach. Oh, Derek Henry could have 100.
[37:05] Speaker 3: Sacks right now. Yeah, but their coach.
[37:07] Speaker 2: Didn't do that to him. You know what I'm saying? Like,
[37:10] Speaker 2: just let him pick one and let him be a
[37:13] Speaker 2: beast at that one.
[37:15] Speaker 3: Yes. And I think that what we're seeing is that
[37:18] Speaker 3: he could be that at receiver. In my opinion, the
[37:21] Speaker 3: way he runs, the way he tracks the ball, how
[37:23] Speaker 3: he can feel, you know, feel for guys out in space.
[37:26] Speaker 3: I'm like, why are we, why would we even mess
[37:28] Speaker 3: around with the DV thing? And this is me admitting
[37:30] Speaker 3: that I might've been wrong in my evaluation of this.
[37:32] Speaker 3: Cause I thought that for sure, put them out at corner,
[37:35] Speaker 3: let them play corner a hundred percent of the time.
[37:37] Speaker 3: The wide receiver stuff was nice in college, but I
[37:39] Speaker 3: don't know if that's who he can be at the
[37:41] Speaker 3: NFL level. I watched the way this guy moves. And
[37:43] Speaker 3: I'm like, maybe that guy does need to touch the
[37:45] Speaker 3: ball eight to 12 times a game. I just think
[37:48] Speaker 3: that it's hard to do that. If you're trying to
[37:50] Speaker 3: teach him how to be a slot, how to be
[37:52] Speaker 3: an outside receiver, and how to, you know, line up
[37:55] Speaker 3: at the line of scrimmage and play press technique on
[37:57] Speaker 3: number one wide receivers.
[37:59] Speaker 1: I mean, it's clearly affecting his decision making because he
[38:01] Speaker 1: signed off on that terrible, terrible commercial that him and
[38:04] Speaker 1: Trevor Lawrence did together.
[38:06] Speaker 2: You seen that?
[38:07] Speaker 3: I haven't seen this.
[38:08] Speaker 2: Oh, my God.
[38:09] Speaker 1: I'm amazed that you've avoided it. They run it all
[38:12] Speaker 1: the time. You ever seen Footloose?
[38:15] Speaker 3: I have seen Footloose.
[38:16] Speaker 1: I have never seen Footloose. But it's a commercial with
[38:19] Speaker 1: the Denise Williams song. And they out here, it look like.
[38:21] Speaker 2: They like dancing in TikTok videos, basically.
[38:23] Speaker 1: Like they got a part where they holding hands and
[38:25] Speaker 1: they do the thing where you go like that.
[38:28] Speaker 2: Y'all do the wave with your arm and you dance together.
[38:30] Speaker 2: And it's let's hear it for the boy.
[38:32] Speaker 1: And I'm like, I'm trying to figure out who this
[38:35] Speaker 1: make want to play football.
[38:36] Speaker 2: Whose idea was this?
[38:44] Speaker 3: Their relationship already don't strike me like that's the way
[38:46] Speaker 3: that they give it up with one another either. Nobody's
[38:48] Speaker 3: buying it.
[38:48] Speaker 1: I'm just going to tell you, you're going to look
[38:50] Speaker 1: at this commercial and we are so far away from
[38:52] Speaker 1: I am not a role model. Like, commercials when I
[38:54] Speaker 1: was a kid had a little bit more bite tool.
[38:58] Speaker 2: That one right.
[38:58] Speaker 1: There had me like, oh, and I ain't never seen,
[39:01] Speaker 1: like I said, I ain't never seen Footloose. I said
[39:03] Speaker 1: it to a friend of mine and she tells me
[39:04] Speaker 1: how it's from Footloose. I'm like, is it even from Footloose?
[39:07] Speaker 1: I just thought it was a literal interpretation of the song.
[39:10] Speaker 1: I had never seen Footloose.
[39:11] Speaker 3: That's funny.
[39:11] Speaker 2: And That's hilarious.
[39:12] Speaker 1: So apparently them boys is, is that the one about
[39:15] Speaker 1: the town where people ain't allowed to dance?
[39:17] Speaker 3: Yes.
[39:18] Speaker 2: Oh, okay. It's kind of like Baylor.
[39:21] Speaker 3: I think, I think Ryan made the same joke on
[39:24] Speaker 3: earlier very much.
[39:26] Speaker 1: Hey man i'm just saying when i was like say
[39:28] Speaker 1: baylor did not have his first school sponsored dance until
[39:30] Speaker 1: the year of our lord 1997 that just came up
[39:33] Speaker 1: on the show the other day i don't know why
[39:34] Speaker 1: and i'll bring it up every time i'll anytime anytime
[39:38] Speaker 1: they come up don't you worry i'll bring that up
[39:41] Speaker 1: but before we get you out of here i do
[39:42] Speaker 1: want to ask you this about these uh atlanta falcons
[39:47] Speaker 1: um I'm never going to encourage Falcons fans.
[39:50] Speaker 2: To believe because I don't. I stopped.
[39:55] Speaker 3: I quit.
[39:58] Speaker 2: They look aight.
[40:00] Speaker 3: Aight is a dangerous proposition when you're talking about the Falcons.
[40:03] Speaker 2: It is a dangerous proposition.
[40:04] Speaker 1: The part that got Charles McDonald and me, though, was
[40:08] Speaker 1: that defense, which is just children and spare parts.
[40:12] Speaker 2: At least when they're on national television, they be flyin'..
[40:16] Speaker 3: And there are some times where I'm like, it seems
[40:18] Speaker 3: like we're just flying to fly around and we end
[40:20] Speaker 3: up landing in the right spot a lot of times.
[40:23] Speaker 3: And it's very different from the typical Raheem Morris defense,
[40:26] Speaker 3: which has been a lot of just kind of grab bag.
[40:29] Speaker 3: We got a bunch of guys that are just doing
[40:31] Speaker 3: stuff out there. And sometimes we stop the run. And
[40:34] Speaker 3: a lot of times we don't. Sometimes we force turnovers.
[40:36] Speaker 3: And a lot of times we don't. I do think
[40:38] Speaker 3: when I watch them, guys like Billy Bowman, you know,
[40:41] Speaker 3: you're seeing guys up front. Jalen Walker has been a
[40:43] Speaker 3: little bit better than I expected. Their pass rush for
[40:46] Speaker 3: the first time, I guess, since what John Abraham was
[40:49] Speaker 3: playing on the edge for the Falcons looks like it's viable.
[40:52] Speaker 3: And that's a new development as well. And I think
[40:54] Speaker 3: that if you believe in the defense, you can believe
[40:56] Speaker 3: in the team. I'm just not there yet. I will say, though,
[41:00] Speaker 3: this is the perfect team for my own sensibilities because
[41:04] Speaker 3: every time they got the ball, all I'm saying is
[41:05] Speaker 3: where's number seven? Where's number seven? Zach Robinson, if this
[41:09] Speaker 3: play call is not for number seven, you're fired.
[41:11] Speaker 2: All right.
[41:12] Speaker 3: Everything for number seven, please. And less for everybody else.
[41:15] Speaker 1: In a different time, he is one of the five
[41:19] Speaker 1: most famous football players that there is. I say this
[41:23] Speaker 1: all the time here, but I don't believe that I
[41:25] Speaker 1: can say it enough.
[41:27] Speaker 2: I don't know the last time they made. Adrian Peterson
[41:31] Speaker 2: is the last time they made one of.
[41:33] Speaker 1: These in terms of similar talent.
[41:36] Speaker 2: But he can do more than Peterson could.
[41:37] Speaker 1: Peterson is just, like, seven yards deep, pitch him the ball, go.
[41:42] Speaker 1: I don't, you know, Derrick Henry, I guess, is the
[41:43] Speaker 1: other person that you could put in a, like, similar
[41:45] Speaker 1: category there.
[41:46] Speaker 2: But I can do.
[41:47] Speaker 3: All of this.
[41:48] Speaker 1: Bijan feels like a maybe more talented Marshall Falk. And
[41:52] Speaker 1: Marshall Falk has an argument for being the best running
[41:54] Speaker 1: back I've ever seen.
[41:56] Speaker 3: I think of him similarly to LaDainian Thomason and Marshall Falk,
[42:00] Speaker 3: where it's like, there is nothing that these guys cannot do.
[42:03] Speaker 3: And they make guys miss in ways. It's like, oh,
[42:05] Speaker 3: my God. Only you can do this, right? Like he
[42:08] Speaker 3: definitely fits in that paradigm. I do think if we
[42:11] Speaker 3: were in a little bit more of a run friendly NFL,
[42:15] Speaker 3: he's not just one of the most famous players. He
[42:17] Speaker 3: probably is the most marketable force right now in the
[42:20] Speaker 3: NFL because he does things that even guys like Saquon
[42:24] Speaker 3: don't do. Even guys like Jonathan Taylor can't do. I mean,
[42:26] Speaker 3: there are ways where he can catch the ball out
[42:28] Speaker 3: in the flat and it genuinely feels like nobody has
[42:31] Speaker 3: a chance to touch him more times than not. The
[42:33] Speaker 3: first guy to the ball is not the guy that
[42:34] Speaker 3: brings him down. I think that as this thing goes
[42:38] Speaker 3: on with him, he will be maybe the next. And
[42:41] Speaker 3: I feel like I say this every five years, the
[42:43] Speaker 3: last guy that has a chance to make the Hall
[42:45] Speaker 3: of Fame at this position.
[42:47] Speaker 2: OK, so you do that, too. I do that same
[42:49] Speaker 2: thing or run it back. I didn't have all that.
[42:51] Speaker 2: Like we're counting down the moments. Right.
[42:53] Speaker 1: Like we may not get another one of these. I'd
[42:56] Speaker 1: say this to anybody that felt like Falcons overdrafted with Bijan.
[43:00] Speaker 2: All you was doing was telling me you was a dork.
[43:03] Speaker 3: Hater.
[43:03] Speaker 2: Right?
[43:04] Speaker 1: Only a dork would have said that, and the rest
[43:07] Speaker 1: of y'all need to be glad because if the Falcons
[43:09] Speaker 1: had not taken him, what if he went down to
[43:12] Speaker 1: the next team that took a running back in the
[43:13] Speaker 1: first round that year? Because that means Bijan, as much
[43:17] Speaker 1: as you might like Jameer Gibbs, Bijan would be a
[43:20] Speaker 1: Detroit lying, in which case, first of all, Bijan would
[43:25] Speaker 1: be the quarterback.
[43:26] Speaker 2: Maybe they'd never throw the ball again.
[43:27] Speaker 3: Yeah. You want to talk about some big brain Ben Johnson.
[43:31] Speaker 3: That would have been the whole offense while he was here.
[43:35] Speaker 1: Well, clearly the big brain is actually Dan Campbell because
[43:38] Speaker 1: they still do that stuff now.
[43:40] Speaker 2: And it's like, oh, wow, Dan Campbell actually.
[43:42] Speaker 1: Does Dan Campbell have a streak that wants him to
[43:45] Speaker 1: prove to us how smart he is?
[43:48] Speaker 2: Because that would be bad.
[43:49] Speaker 3: I think there's a little bit of. not just the
[43:52] Speaker 3: meathead energy that we're getting from him. And I'm like,
[43:56] Speaker 3: hey man, ain't no shame in being a meathead. We
[43:58] Speaker 3: love you with this. This is your role.
[44:00] Speaker 1: But you know what he is though? He's one of
[44:02] Speaker 1: these guys. Mike Ditka fits this category. Les Miles was
[44:08] Speaker 1: a guy like this in college. And that is offensive
[44:13] Speaker 1: guys who seem like defensive guys.
[44:15] Speaker 3: Yes, yes.
[44:17] Speaker 2: Right? Like when you think about it, you're like, huh, really?
[44:19] Speaker 2: Mike Ditka? Yeah, Mike Ditka.
[44:20] Speaker 1: Hall of Fame, first tight end to go into the
[44:22] Speaker 1: Hall of Fame. He's an offensive guy. But, you know,
[44:26] Speaker 1: they all hardscrabble and got dirt on their fingernails and shit.
[44:28] Speaker 1: So they seem like that they are less, honestly, with
[44:31] Speaker 1: Les Miles. There's only one reason we think him as
[44:33] Speaker 1: the defensive guy is because we just don't think of
[44:35] Speaker 1: him as being particularly bright.
[44:37] Speaker 3: Exactly.
[44:37] Speaker 1: I'm not saying he isn't. I'm just telling you the
[44:40] Speaker 1: way that we be treating him.
[44:42] Speaker 3: That's fair. I think that's fair. Right. Exactly. By choice.
[44:46] Speaker 2: Yeah.
[44:47] Speaker 3: Just because.
[44:48] Speaker 2: Yeah.
[44:48] Speaker 3: Compulsively.
[44:49] Speaker 2: Yeah.
[44:50] Speaker 1: As an example to prove the point that I'm making here.
[44:53] Speaker 1: Not one of y'all looking at Ogeron like, oh, I
[44:56] Speaker 1: bet that man called plays.
[44:57] Speaker 2: No, no, no, no, no, no, no. That's not.
[45:00] Speaker 3: Not a half bad Cajun. Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
[45:04] Speaker 2: You know, like that's not. He ain't the guy that's
[45:07] Speaker 2: doing that.
[45:07] Speaker 1: But I mentioned the Lions because the Lions played a
[45:11] Speaker 1: Bucs on Monday Night Football. And obviously, I think the
[45:16] Speaker 1: Lions have given us a little bit more proof of
[45:17] Speaker 1: concept on the idea that they are for real. Tampa,
[45:21] Speaker 1: I think it's been a little tricky in terms of
[45:24] Speaker 1: who they've played and the results that they put up. Except,
[45:28] Speaker 1: The fair point, obviously, they got sweepstakes winners out there
[45:32] Speaker 1: playing wide receiver and they're still getting it done. They're
[45:35] Speaker 1: a little beat up everywhere and they still managed to
[45:38] Speaker 1: get it done.
[45:40] Speaker 3: I have been one of the few guys like in
[45:42] Speaker 3: this millennial sports media football circle that has been the
[45:46] Speaker 3: Baker Mayfield guy, so to speak. And it's less about
[45:49] Speaker 3: thinking that he's a great quarterback and more so what
[45:53] Speaker 3: we've gotten from him in Tampa Bay looks like a
[45:55] Speaker 3: good quarterback. For the most part, it's carried over as
[45:59] Speaker 3: coordinators have left. And I think that this year it's
[46:02] Speaker 3: been really tricky for me because this is about as
[46:05] Speaker 3: unsustainable a level of play as we've ever seen from Baker,
[46:07] Speaker 3: where he's scrambling, he's getting away from these sacks. It
[46:10] Speaker 3: seems like every time he puts the ball in harm's way,
[46:13] Speaker 3: it happens to be an incompletion instead of an interception.
[46:15] Speaker 3: And that usually don't last very long. But he's playing
[46:18] Speaker 3: better than ever. And now people are talking about him
[46:20] Speaker 3: as an MVP. And now I got to be the
[46:22] Speaker 3: asshole that stands up and says, this is not an MVP, guys.
[46:27] Speaker 3: We're not looking at the same thing. And I feel terrible.
[46:29] Speaker 3: I feel like I'm abandoning my post when I'm needed most, man.
[46:33] Speaker 3: But this is not an MVP that I'm watching right now.
[46:36] Speaker 2: I hate feeling like that person. Where it's like, look,
[46:39] Speaker 2: I just want to ride the bobs like you. You
[46:41] Speaker 2: don't want to feel like the Russian judge, right? You
[46:43] Speaker 2: don't want to feel like the Webb Blanket. But people
[46:46] Speaker 2: always got to go too far.
[46:49] Speaker 3: Feel like the damn hipster. Like, I like this thing
[46:51] Speaker 3: when nobody was in on this thing. And now when
[46:53] Speaker 3: everybody's in on this thing, I'm leaving.
[46:55] Speaker 2: I'm like one of those backpack hip hop fans, you know?
[46:58] Speaker 3: Like, oh, you listen to Most Def? I guess I
[47:01] Speaker 3: can't like Most Def no more. You listen to Talib?
[47:04] Speaker 3: I guess I can't listen to Talib no more.
[47:06] Speaker 2: Yeah, just like, oh, look who just showed up.
[47:09] Speaker 4: Exactly.
[47:10] Speaker 2: That is where... So many of the undergrounders did on
[47:13] Speaker 2: Eminem too.
[47:14] Speaker 1: Like before the Eminem thing happened, because I don't know
[47:16] Speaker 1: if you all know to remember when we all found
[47:18] Speaker 1: out like gradually and there was this mythical white dude
[47:20] Speaker 1: that was out here killing it.
[47:22] Speaker 2: And so people got in on it early. Then it
[47:23] Speaker 2: got out of hand.
[47:24] Speaker 1: It was like, yeah, you know, there are certain limitations
[47:28] Speaker 1: to his game.
[47:30] Speaker 3: Once you got to the Eminem show, I felt like
[47:32] Speaker 3: that was a great dividing line between These are the
[47:35] Speaker 3: fans that will have him going forward. And these are
[47:37] Speaker 3: all the fans who were here up to this point.
[47:40] Speaker 3: And y'all can have them from here.
[47:41] Speaker 2: That is a great point.
[47:43] Speaker 1: I want to say this also about Tampa because I
[47:45] Speaker 1: think that this gets lost. As much as we talk
[47:48] Speaker 1: about the redemption and the reclamation of Baker Mayfield from
[47:52] Speaker 1: being discarded and what we thought of him, Todd Bowles
[47:56] Speaker 1: is right there in the exact same boat and in
[48:00] Speaker 1: a way that is similar to Baker. And when I
[48:02] Speaker 1: say that, There was a reason that Cleveland moved on
[48:05] Speaker 1: from Baker, right? He wasn't doing this, and then they
[48:08] Speaker 1: were like, eh, no.
[48:09] Speaker 2: Good, right?
[48:11] Speaker 1: Nope, he had a rise, he had fall, and people
[48:14] Speaker 1: typically don't think that you have a rise that comes
[48:16] Speaker 1: after that.
[48:16] Speaker 2: That was the call they had made.
[48:18] Speaker 1: I do not think that Todd Bowles was a good
[48:20] Speaker 1: head coach when he was with the Jets. They had
[48:22] Speaker 1: that 2015 Fitzmagic year, but I did not think he
[48:26] Speaker 1: did a good job as coach there.
[48:29] Speaker 2: He just keeps winning the division here.
[48:32] Speaker 3: And he keeps hiring good coaches. Yeah. That's probably the
[48:35] Speaker 3: biggest trip to me is like usually a defensive guy
[48:37] Speaker 3: runs out of people to call to run his offense
[48:40] Speaker 3: after a certain amount. And it just seems like he
[48:42] Speaker 3: has just shuffled one guy in after another that has
[48:44] Speaker 3: gotten great results with their quarterback and with this offense.
[48:47] Speaker 3: And I would say that this also extends to GM
[48:50] Speaker 3: Jason Light as well. Like I would remember when he
[48:52] Speaker 3: first got that job because he was there right when
[48:54] Speaker 3: Jameis got brought in as the number one draft pick.
[48:56] Speaker 3: And that roster was awful. Outside of Mike Evans, there
[49:00] Speaker 3: was not a whole lot else going on. There were
[49:02] Speaker 3: a lot of misses. I think OJ Howard is a
[49:04] Speaker 3: tight end, you know, in the first round where they
[49:06] Speaker 3: really could have used some more help elsewhere. And then
[49:09] Speaker 3: he gets bailed out by Tom Brady. And I think
[49:10] Speaker 3: that the book on Jason Light before Tom Brady's retirement was, oh,
[49:15] Speaker 3: this is a guy that was kind of mediocre and
[49:18] Speaker 3: was just hanging around because the owner wanted him around.
[49:20] Speaker 3: and then Tom Brady came and bailed him out and
[49:22] Speaker 3: now that we are post Tom Brady what we're seeing
[49:24] Speaker 3: is this has probably been one of the teams that
[49:27] Speaker 3: has had the fewest amount of roster weaknesses on a
[49:30] Speaker 3: year-to-year basis basically since they brought in Tom Brady and
[49:33] Speaker 3: I think that all these guys deserve a lot of
[49:34] Speaker 3: credit because they've hung around and been a regular playoff team,
[49:38] Speaker 3: albeit in the NFC South, where there hasn't been a
[49:40] Speaker 3: whole lot of competition post Drew Brees and post Cam
[49:43] Speaker 3: Newton and post Matt Ryan. But they've held this thing
[49:46] Speaker 3: down basically no matter who has been at the helm,
[49:48] Speaker 3: or excuse me, with Todd Bowles and Jason Lack at
[49:50] Speaker 3: the helm, because they've done a great job of hiring
[49:53] Speaker 3: guys and acquiring depth across this roster.
[49:55] Speaker 1: I would also say 2020 Tom Brady was a little
[49:57] Speaker 1: closer to being Jalen Hurts than he was to being
[50:00] Speaker 1: Patrick Mahomes. Like that roster was a quarterback away. And
[50:05] Speaker 1: they got the best, oh, you're a quarterback away, question mark,
[50:08] Speaker 1: that you could possibly throw in under those circumstances.
[50:11] Speaker 2: They had dudes, man.
[50:14] Speaker 3: I think that Super Bowl has kind of biased us
[50:16] Speaker 3: to how we think about exactly what that team was.
[50:18] Speaker 2: Go watch that playoff run. Yeah.
[50:21] Speaker 1: Well, remember when they had to stop going out routes?
[50:24] Speaker 1: When they had to stop letting Tom Brady throw out routes?
[50:26] Speaker 2: Because they was just like, gotcha pops.
[50:29] Speaker 3: I think I remember, maybe it was 2019. No, I
[50:31] Speaker 3: think it was 2020, where they played the Saints. And
[50:34] Speaker 3: the Saints defense was just all over these guys. I
[50:37] Speaker 3: was like, this is the team that people want me
[50:39] Speaker 3: to believe that just because Tom Brady is here, they're
[50:41] Speaker 3: going to go win a title. That's not what I see.
[50:43] Speaker 3: And then they get to the playoffs. And then that's where,
[50:45] Speaker 3: you know, similar to Jalen Hurts. It's like, all we
[50:47] Speaker 3: needed was a guy that wasn't going to give this
[50:49] Speaker 3: thing away.
[50:49] Speaker 1: Yes.
[50:50] Speaker 3: We just needed to get you to this point. Now
[50:52] Speaker 3: you go on, you go on ahead, run free.
[50:54] Speaker 1: I assure you every day, Jalen, Jameis Winston was trying
[50:57] Speaker 1: to explain to people that it was this close.
[51:00] Speaker 2: Been me.
[51:00] Speaker 3: I was right there. I was right there.
[51:02] Speaker 2: I'm telling you, we talked about this before.
[51:05] Speaker 1: Anthony Richardson is saying the exact same thing right now.
[51:07] Speaker 2: About the Colts.
[51:08] Speaker 1: Like I said, the last time we saw both of
[51:10] Speaker 1: those guys play in a season, there was no question
[51:13] Speaker 1: who I thought was better.
[51:14] Speaker 2: Anthony Richardson. And not because Anthony Richardson was great.
[51:17] Speaker 3: Right.
[51:17] Speaker 2: You're never going to convince him he couldn't be doing this.
[51:21] Speaker 3: They sent Daniel Jones home. The Giants, a team that
[51:23] Speaker 3: has not had a quarterback since Eli Manning, sent Daniel
[51:26] Speaker 3: Jones home midseason. This was not supposed to play out
[51:30] Speaker 3: this way. And I'm Anthony Richardson. I'm really sitting here peeved.
[51:33] Speaker 3: So I'm like, yeah, all I needed was another year.
[51:36] Speaker 3: And then you can start telling yourself these lies of,
[51:38] Speaker 3: they didn't call those plays when I was quarterback. You know?
[51:41] Speaker 1: You say the Giants ain't had a quarterback. You say
[51:43] Speaker 1: the Giants ain't had a quarterback. My brother's favorite line
[51:46] Speaker 1: is that one right there.
[51:49] Speaker 3: Politics. That's politics. Management didn't believe in me. That's what
[51:54] Speaker 3: the problem was. Man, you know.
[51:56] Speaker 2: You know how it is, right?
[51:58] Speaker 3: You know how the bosses can be.
[52:00] Speaker 2: That's the invisible hand.
[52:04] Speaker 1: For those of you who are not familiar with the
[52:06] Speaker 1: concept of the invisible hand, in economics, there's a book
[52:08] Speaker 1: called The Wealth of Nations that is like this foundational
[52:10] Speaker 1: economic book and the rationale behind the market, like letting
[52:13] Speaker 1: the market work itself out. is the invisible hand will
[52:17] Speaker 1: guide everything where it's supposed to go. My interpretation is,
[52:20] Speaker 1: by the way, the invisible hand is a slick way
[52:22] Speaker 1: of saying, fuck if I know. The invisible hand is
[52:25] Speaker 1: basically saying, God, God don't make no mistakes. That is
[52:31] Speaker 1: what the invisible hand of the market is as a principle, right?
[52:35] Speaker 2: That's what it is.
[52:36] Speaker 1: Politics is like these seedy invisible hands. The invisible hand
[52:42] Speaker 1: of the underwear, man, you know, they just be doing
[52:44] Speaker 1: stuff Yes.
[52:46] Speaker 3: Absence of evidence is not the evidence of absence type
[52:49] Speaker 3: of mentality. You can't tell me that they're not trying
[52:52] Speaker 3: to sabotage me behind the scenes just because you ain't
[52:55] Speaker 3: heard it. Don't mean it can't be happening.
[52:58] Speaker 1: And it's always the same person who is the victim
[53:01] Speaker 1: of politics in every place, which means one of two things.
[53:04] Speaker 1: Either you're really not good at what you do or
[53:06] Speaker 1: you are a real jerk where everywhere you go, they're like.
[53:13] Speaker 3: Listen, I think we brought up Carson Wentz in that
[53:15] Speaker 3: respect the last time I was on. There is a
[53:18] Speaker 3: reason why some guys don't get to hang around as
[53:20] Speaker 3: backups for longer than a year or two.
[53:22] Speaker 2: Jeff George is the all-timer. And whether right or wrong,
[53:29] Speaker 2: that's what they decided about Cam Newton.
[53:30] Speaker 1: Now, I think Cam Newton also decided that about himself,
[53:34] Speaker 1: which I respect. He's like, I ain't just going to
[53:36] Speaker 1: be hanging around.
[53:38] Speaker 3: Not for no Mac Jones.
[53:39] Speaker 2: Yeah, I can't believe it.
[53:40] Speaker 3: Respectfully.
[53:41] Speaker 2: I'm just not going to be just.
[53:42] Speaker 4: I.
[53:42] Speaker 2: Ain't just trying to be on a team.
[53:45] Speaker 4: Right.
[53:46] Speaker 2: What are you talking about?
[53:47] Speaker 3: Same thing with, like, Odell Beckham, right? Like, do I
[53:49] Speaker 3: believe that Odell Beckham can go play in the slot
[53:51] Speaker 3: for a lot of teams right now? Yeah, I do.
[53:53] Speaker 3: But if I'm Odell Beckham, hey, man, I'm me. Okay?
[53:58] Speaker 3: This is beneath my dignity, okay? I'm not saying I
[54:02] Speaker 3: got to be the star, but you have to treat
[54:04] Speaker 3: me a certain kind of way. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
[54:05] Speaker 2: Like, sorry.
[54:06] Speaker 4: Like, I.
[54:07] Speaker 2: And y'all going to expect me to show up on time. Right.
[54:10] Speaker 3: That's the real problem.
[54:11] Speaker 1: So the reason that the Broncos, I think it was
[54:14] Speaker 1: the Broncos, Jerry Rice's last training camp, they didn't keep
[54:16] Speaker 1: him on.
[54:16] Speaker 2: They were like, oh, he could have been the fifth receiver,
[54:18] Speaker 2: but the fifth receiver does special teams.
[54:21] Speaker 3: I can't have Jerry.
[54:22] Speaker 2: Rice out here.
[54:23] Speaker 3: I'm Jerry Rice. I ain't covering no kickoff.
[54:27] Speaker 2: He ain't even got to say, I'm Jerry Rice. You
[54:30] Speaker 2: don't bring that to Jerry Rice. You're just like, hey, man.
[54:33] Speaker 2: We just ain't even going to do that. Can't even
[54:37] Speaker 2: do that.
[54:37] Speaker 3: We only got to have that conversation. I ain't even
[54:39] Speaker 3: going to disrespect you with that.
[54:40] Speaker 1: I ain't going to hold you, partner. I appreciate you. Exactly.
[54:46] Speaker 3: All love here.
[54:48] Speaker 2: No beef. No shade.
[54:50] Speaker 3: No nothing.
[54:50] Speaker 1: But that, Deontay Lee, check him out at the ring
[54:53] Speaker 1: covering the NFL. My brother, I appreciate you.
[54:55] Speaker 3: Appreciate you having me.
[54:57] Speaker 1: On, man.
[54:57] Speaker 3: All right, man.
[54:58] Speaker 1: And ladies and gentlemen, thanks so much for joining us
[55:00] Speaker 1: here on The Right Time. We do this here three

[55:21] Speaker 2: Take it easy.
