[0:20] Speaker 1: you are a hater it is Beaumont Jones Friday.

[0:31] Speaker 1: Host of The Right Time with Beaumont Jones. Check it
[0:34] Speaker 1: out wherever you get your podcasts.
[0:36] Speaker 3: All right.
[0:39] Speaker 2: Yeah, gets bailed.
[0:40] Speaker 1: Anyway, we actually have a stupendous slate of NFL action
[0:44] Speaker 1: this weekend. And thank goodness, Ryan, because if we did not,
[0:46] Speaker 1: this would be a frantic, frantic program.
[0:50] Speaker 2: Correct.
[0:50] Speaker 4: But, you know, thankfully, the NFL, we did not have
[0:52] Speaker 4: a great slate of games yesterday. Last week, excuse me.
[0:56] Speaker 4: But this week it is. Excellent. Also, we got Texas,
[0:59] Speaker 4: Georgia that Saturday as well. Right.
[1:01] Speaker 2: We've got that.
[1:02] Speaker 1: But what we have on top of this that is
[1:05] Speaker 1: better than any of it is A.J.
[1:07] Speaker 2: Brown throwback NFL wide receiver. OK, now.
[1:13] Speaker 1: I actually don't even feel like this is truly throwback
[1:15] Speaker 1: wide receiver behavior because when I think about throwback wide
[1:17] Speaker 1: receiver behavior, I think about people acting bad, like just
[1:20] Speaker 1: being mad that they're not getting the ball and doing
[1:22] Speaker 1: a poor job of articulating perhaps that it's larger than them,
[1:25] Speaker 1: but it always just seemed like it was just about them.
[1:28] Speaker 2: But A.J.
[1:29] Speaker 1: Brown for the last year and a half has been
[1:31] Speaker 1: a little bit miffed that he's not getting the ball.
[1:33] Speaker 1: And by the way, so is Devontae Smith because their
[1:35] Speaker 1: problem doesn't simply appear to be that they're miffed about not.
[1:38] Speaker 2: Getting the ball.
[1:39] Speaker 1: The problem seems to be this offense stinks and everybody
[1:43] Speaker 1: knows it.
[1:44] Speaker 2: Can't you tell, right?
[1:46] Speaker 1: So yeah, you could run for 2000 yards of Saquon
[1:48] Speaker 1: Barkley last year and make everything work. But as is
[1:50] Speaker 1: often the case when a running back takes a bunch
[1:52] Speaker 1: of carries in a year and by the way, or
[1:54] Speaker 1: just gets to the age of Saquon Barkley, you can't
[1:58] Speaker 1: do this again. So in a very not throwback sort
[2:02] Speaker 1: of way, AJ Brown was perfect. on the stream playing
[2:07] Speaker 1: video games with somebody and somebody asked him some questions
[2:10] Speaker 1: about what was going on and what he was saying
[2:12] Speaker 1: with the offense. And he was saying, no, it's not
[2:15] Speaker 1: going good. Is it good enough? You know, all those
[2:18] Speaker 1: kinds of things.
[2:19] Speaker 2: And, you know.
[2:21] Speaker 1: From what I understand about you, people who play video
[2:24] Speaker 1: games to that level, you know, it's easy to like
[2:27] Speaker 1: forget that you're actually being recorded and people.
[2:30] Speaker 2: Can hear you. You know what I mean? You get
[2:32] Speaker 2: yourself just.
[2:32] Speaker 1: A little bit too comfortable and you say a little
[2:36] Speaker 1: bit too much. And I've been in situations where like
[2:39] Speaker 1: you're doing something that's.
[2:40] Speaker 2: Being recorded, but you do it with your friend.
[2:42] Speaker 1: And so you get a little bit too comfortable and
[2:45] Speaker 1: perhaps you say something, not that you didn't mean, but
[2:49] Speaker 1: something that you probably didn't. either didn't intend to say
[2:52] Speaker 1: or it was received in a way differently than you
[2:55] Speaker 1: expected just because you were so comfortable and you were
[2:58] Speaker 1: talking to a friend. And so you think since you're
[3:00] Speaker 1: talking to a friend, the fact that the rest of
[3:03] Speaker 1: the world can hear you goes away. And so your
[3:05] Speaker 1: friend understands your tone. Your friend understands what you mean.
[3:08] Speaker 1: Your friend extends you certain measures of grace if things
[3:12] Speaker 1: might be just a little bit.
[3:13] Speaker 2: Gruff, right?
[3:15] Speaker 1: But the rest of the world is listening and now
[3:17] Speaker 1: the rest of the world has questions. And You typically
[3:22] Speaker 1: have two options under those circumstances. Option one is just
[3:27] Speaker 1: not to say nothing about it. Just typically my choice.
[3:32] Speaker 1: Option two is to kind of be like, ah, you know,
[3:36] Speaker 1: maybe I got a little bit too comfortable.
[3:37] Speaker 2: That wasn't exactly what I meant. Those are normally the
[3:42] Speaker 2: two options. A.J. Brown went with the rarely used option three.
[3:52] Speaker 2: And option three for him, 10 toes down. Ryan, can
[3:59] Speaker 2: you play what A.J. Brown had to say?
[4:00] Speaker 5: A.J., can you explain the situation with the fact that
[4:03] Speaker 5: you said.
[4:04] Speaker 6: You took it?
[4:05] Speaker 4: It's not just solely.
[4:06] Speaker 3: About my situation.
[4:07] Speaker 7: I mean, guys, like, obviously, I want to win, too,
[4:09] Speaker 7: you know? And I think if we're really focusing on winning,
[4:14] Speaker 7: doing our job, like, we can't just keep slapping the
[4:16] Speaker 7: Band-Aid over the defense during their job. and getting us
[4:20] Speaker 7: out of trouble.
[4:21] Speaker 4: At what point are we going to.
[4:23] Speaker 7: Pick up our slack as an offense that we're so great,
[4:26] Speaker 7: you know? And that's what I'm getting at.
[4:28] Speaker 4: It's not about we're not winning or I don't care
[4:31] Speaker 4: about winning. All I care about is snap and step.
[4:33] Speaker 5: No.
[4:34] Speaker 4: It's been week after week sometimes.
[4:36] Speaker 2: We're not contributing. We're not doing our job on offense.
[4:39] Speaker 2: So you can't just keep slapping.
[4:40] Speaker 4: The Band-Aid over it.
[4:41] Speaker 2: You expect to win later in the year.
[4:42] Speaker 7: You don't think you're going to go to it at
[4:44] Speaker 7: the end of the year.
[4:44] Speaker 2: It's not going to fucking happen. It's not going to happen.
[4:46] Speaker 2: It's not going to happen.
[4:48] Speaker 6: You know?
[4:48] Speaker 8: Last year.
[4:49] Speaker 4: what it was.
[4:50] Speaker 7: Thank you for the ring but it's a new season
[4:52] Speaker 7: they adapted we have to adapt and we have to
[4:54] Speaker 7: continue to like get better and try to find new
[4:56] Speaker 7: ways so that's that's where the frustration comes in because
[4:59] Speaker 7: it's not about winning you guys like i want to
[5:02] Speaker 7: win yes and help contribute as well do our thing
[5:05] Speaker 7: on offense as well that's i think.
[5:07] Speaker 4: That's fair.
[5:09] Speaker 2: Right what was that in his.
[5:10] Speaker 4: Locker um it was a receipt that said jesus paid
[5:15] Speaker 4: it all oh.
[5:19] Speaker 2: Got to worry about a guy like that.
[5:20] Speaker 1: This dude in Dallas wants to sue Deion Sanders because
[5:23] Speaker 1: Deion took his car in to get fixed. When Buddy
[5:25] Speaker 1: asked for the money, Deion told him that Jesus told
[5:28] Speaker 1: him that he didn't have to pay.
[5:30] Speaker 4: Yeah, this is the truth.
[5:31] Speaker 2: I'm not making this up for you people who think
[5:33] Speaker 2: I'd be hating on Dion. That actually happened. So he
[5:35] Speaker 2: said Jesus paid the receipt. Now, OK, you you still
[5:39] Speaker 2: have to pay things to just just in case that
[5:43] Speaker 2: comes up. But you know what I find interesting about
[5:45] Speaker 2: this with A.J. Brown is that like it.
[5:47] Speaker 1: Sounds like he's pushing back on all this millennial zoomer positivity.
[5:52] Speaker 6: Right.
[5:52] Speaker 1: Right.
[5:53] Speaker 2: Somebody keeps saying everything is OK.
[5:55] Speaker 1: Like I used to work this one job. where every
[5:57] Speaker 1: day we would come off and somebody would tell us
[5:59] Speaker 1: what a great day we had. And I was like,
[6:00] Speaker 1: there's no way we had a great day every day.
[6:03] Speaker 2: Right. It's not possible. You're lying. This is useless. Like
[6:06] Speaker 2: this is actually becoming counterproductive.
[6:07] Speaker 4: Not every single show is a great show.
[6:08] Speaker 6: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
[6:09] Speaker 1: Like this is becoming counterproductive if this is the feeling
[6:12] Speaker 1: that you have about this.
[6:14] Speaker 2: Is Sirianni one of those guys? Like, is that what
[6:16] Speaker 2: it is?
[6:17] Speaker 1: But the tone that he's taking implies, guys, stop lying
[6:22] Speaker 1: to me.
[6:23] Speaker 2: I know what time it is. This ain't it.
[6:26] Speaker 4: Yeah. Last game, he had two catches for 13 yards
[6:30] Speaker 4: in the first half and had less in the second half.
[6:34] Speaker 4: He had less targets.
[6:35] Speaker 8: Yes.
[6:36] Speaker 1: And I mean, look, man, I was watching some TV
[6:40] Speaker 1: and they made a very good point that Nick Sirianni
[6:42] Speaker 1: didn't get enough trouble. for what a disaster it looked
[6:44] Speaker 1: like that team was going to be early in 2024,
[6:47] Speaker 1: and for riding the ship and getting everything okay.
[6:51] Speaker 6: Right?
[6:51] Speaker 2: Right.
[6:51] Speaker 4: They were 2-2. He's screaming at fans in Cleveland.
[6:54] Speaker 2: Correct.
[6:55] Speaker 6: Correct.
[6:55] Speaker 4: And shows up with a shaved head. Correct.
[6:58] Speaker 2: It didn't. But did he fix stuff, or did they
[7:01] Speaker 2: just start winning?
[7:03] Speaker 6: Right.
[7:03] Speaker 2: You know?
[7:04] Speaker 1: And so the point is, where A.J. Brown's talking about
[7:06] Speaker 1: we can't just keep throwing the Band-Aid over it. In
[7:10] Speaker 1: a way, winning is the Band-Aid, right? It's just like, hey,
[7:13] Speaker 1: it doesn't matter as long as we're winning. That's a
[7:18] Speaker 1: tricky situation. But now they're going to play this game
[7:20] Speaker 1: on Sunday night against America's team, the Detroit Lions. And
[7:24] Speaker 1: I do believe that they have to go to Detroit
[7:27] Speaker 1: to play this game. And look, this is two teams. Oh,
[7:32] Speaker 1: so no, they're going to get this game at home.
[7:34] Speaker 5: Okay. Okay.
[7:36] Speaker 1: So, Ryan, what I was about to say, I have
[7:38] Speaker 1: to take off the table, but now it makes for
[7:39] Speaker 1: what I think is perhaps a more interesting set of points.
[7:42] Speaker 4: What you got?
[7:43] Speaker 2: OK, so my thought was, hey, you got to go
[7:45] Speaker 2: play on the road.
[7:46] Speaker 1: It's going to be loud in there. That could be
[7:48] Speaker 1: extra tricky. Counterpoint on this is you get the game
[7:51] Speaker 1: at home.
[7:52] Speaker 4: Where it might be louder and trickier.
[7:54] Speaker 1: Here we go. Like if this offense does not get going. Hey, man,
[7:59] Speaker 1: Eagles fans know he's right. Right. That's a fan base
[8:03] Speaker 1: that's not falling for the just because we're winning. Certainly
[8:06] Speaker 1: happier for winning, but they're not falling for that. If
[8:08] Speaker 1: that offense comes out there looking sluggish, it's going to
[8:12] Speaker 1: be a thing.
[8:13] Speaker 2: I actually need to take.
[8:14] Speaker 1: A greater survey of Eagles fans to see do they
[8:16] Speaker 1: love A.J. Brown for this or hate A.J. Brown for
[8:18] Speaker 1: this because if I was an Eagles fan, he would
[8:20] Speaker 1: become my favorite player. He's my favorite player right now
[8:23] Speaker 1: and I root for the Lions.
[8:24] Speaker 4: Right. I appreciate anyone who is that Consistently honest. Say
[8:33] Speaker 4: what you want about Adrian. Man stays on message. Yes.
[8:35] Speaker 4: He wants the ball and he wants the offense to
[8:37] Speaker 4: be better. And he's clearly right.
[8:41] Speaker 2: And he hasn't said anything rude.
[8:42] Speaker 4: Right.
[8:43] Speaker 2: Right? Like, he hasn't come... He hasn't taken all.
[8:45] Speaker 4: It's not personal. It's not... He's not like... Remember when
[8:50] Speaker 4: Micah Parsons said on his pod, he listed the top
[8:52] Speaker 4: five quarterbacks and.
[8:53] Speaker 2: He did list Prescott.
[8:54] Speaker 4: Yeah. Like, he's never saying... anyone's not doing a good job,
[8:58] Speaker 4: he's saying we're not doing a good job.
[9:00] Speaker 6: Yes.
[9:01] Speaker 4: He is saying we're not doing a good enough job
[9:03] Speaker 4: getting me the ball.
[9:05] Speaker 8: Yes.
[9:05] Speaker 4: But he's not saying certain people aren't doing enough.
[9:08] Speaker 1: Well, the other part is they are not doing a
[9:11] Speaker 1: good enough job of getting him the ball.
[9:13] Speaker 4: Yeah. I don't think that's in dispute.
[9:16] Speaker 1: Everybody agrees with everything that he's saying, and I'm just
[9:19] Speaker 1: trying to figure out what the head coach is doing.
[9:21] Speaker 2: If that's how he feels.
[9:23] Speaker 1: Of course, the way this season is gone, that means
[9:26] Speaker 1: that the Eagles are going to win this game but
[9:28] Speaker 1: not cover the spread, and the spread is two and
[9:30] Speaker 1: a half, and their record is just going to keep
[9:32] Speaker 1: getting better. Is it going to be like it was
[9:34] Speaker 1: with the Chiefs last year, where we wound up in
[9:37] Speaker 1: this very similar situation?
[9:40] Speaker 2: Right.
[9:40] Speaker 4: I mean, like, but the Chiefs last year, they didn't
[9:44] Speaker 4: seem as frustrated. Like, there was no one sounding the alarms.
[9:50] Speaker 4: And maybe that's just Philadelphia, right? That's just kind of
[9:52] Speaker 4: the culture of the place.
[9:53] Speaker 2: Well, I think it's two years in a row it is, Schaefer.
[9:56] Speaker 4: That's true, yeah.
[9:57] Speaker 1: As it relates to him, I think, or maybe the
[9:59] Speaker 1: Chiefs have. greater track record there, or maybe AJ Brown
[10:02] Speaker 1: just go harder.
[10:03] Speaker 4: Right. Yeah.
[10:04] Speaker 2: Maybe, maybe he is just more of a perfectionist.
[10:06] Speaker 6: Yes.
[10:07] Speaker 1: Maybe he insists a little bit more, but the other
[10:10] Speaker 1: thing with the Eagles is this, they're not playing for
[10:12] Speaker 1: the division, man.
[10:12] Speaker 2: They're going to win that.
[10:13] Speaker 1: They're surrounded by bums in that division. Um, They are, however,
[10:19] Speaker 1: low key. And I don't think we're talking about this
[10:21] Speaker 1: part nearly enough. They are absolutely playing for the number
[10:25] Speaker 1: one seed in that conference because everybody else is going
[10:28] Speaker 1: to beat up on each other in the division by
[10:30] Speaker 1: and large, except for Tampa Bay.
[10:31] Speaker 2: But I just don't think they're that good. But there
[10:34] Speaker 2: look to.
[10:34] Speaker 1: Be perhaps four good teams in the north. There appear
[10:37] Speaker 1: to be three good teams.
[10:39] Speaker 2: In the west.
[10:40] Speaker 4: Right.
[10:40] Speaker 1: So they're all going to pound each other. And the
[10:43] Speaker 1: Eagles get to play a season with two games. against
[10:47] Speaker 1: the Cowboys, Commanders, and Giants.
[10:50] Speaker 4: Make a wish.
[10:52] Speaker 6: They do.
[10:53] Speaker 2: Oh, my God, the Commanders.
[10:54] Speaker 4: The Commanders.
[10:55] Speaker 1: Hey, man, the Commanders and the Cowboys play on Christmas,
[11:01] Speaker 1: and the name of that game should be The Spirit
[11:03] Speaker 1: of Giving. Like the, it is amazing how bad the
[11:08] Speaker 1: commander's defense is. So, you know, my man, Dan Campbell
[11:10] Speaker 1: took over play calling for the lions. He said he
[11:13] Speaker 1: wanted to, he wanted to show John Morton the way
[11:16] Speaker 1: he wanted a game to be called, which I think
[11:18] Speaker 1: is a fair thing to do here.
[11:21] Speaker 6: Right.
[11:21] Speaker 1: I also think Dan Campbell every now and then needs
[11:23] Speaker 1: to remind people that it's a brain up here.
[11:26] Speaker 4: Some people like to drive the car. They don't have
[11:28] Speaker 4: to drive. Some people don't have to, they don't have
[11:29] Speaker 4: to drive every day, but some people, you know, they
[11:31] Speaker 4: like to show they still got it.
[11:32] Speaker 1: But he also has to get tired of people thinking
[11:34] Speaker 1: that he's not a thinker. And this is his opportunity
[11:37] Speaker 1: to do so.
[11:37] Speaker 2: But anyway, a.
[11:40] Speaker 1: Friend of the program, I don't know if that person
[11:42] Speaker 1: has said this in public, so I want to be
[11:44] Speaker 1: careful putting their name on it. But they're like, nah,
[11:46] Speaker 1: I see through what Dan did. And that actually, no,
[11:50] Speaker 1: it was Mina. And she did send it on social.
[11:52] Speaker 1: She saw through what Dan Campbell did.
[11:55] Speaker 4: Oh, he picked up the Madden sticks, but he played
[11:58] Speaker 4: it on Rookie?
[11:58] Speaker 2: Yes, he did. That is exactly.
[12:02] Speaker 1: But however, to be fair to Dan Campbell, If you
[12:05] Speaker 1: want to show how you want it to be done.
[12:06] Speaker 5: Correct.
[12:07] Speaker 2: This is the best way to go about showing how
[12:10] Speaker 2: you want it to be done. Like, did he do
[12:12] Speaker 2: it to show everybody how good he was?
[12:15] Speaker 6: Maybe.
[12:16] Speaker 1: But if it was intended to be instructional, that was
[12:18] Speaker 1: the perfect time. Anyway, they're going to play against each other,
[12:21] Speaker 1: the Cowboys and the Commanders on Christmas.
[12:24] Speaker 2: And it's just going to look. Russell Wilson looked like
[12:28] Speaker 2: Russell Wilson. Against the Cowboys.
[12:32] Speaker 4: Also, that might be Marcus Mariota versus Joe Milton.
[12:37] Speaker 1: And it'll look like Joe Montana versus Dan Marino. It's
[12:43] Speaker 1: just going to be up and down, up and down.
[12:47] Speaker 1: That's what it's going to be. But this is a
[12:50] Speaker 1: great week of football, man. We got the Seahawks and
[12:53] Speaker 1: the Rams who might be, honest to God, the best
[12:56] Speaker 1: two teams in the NFC.
[12:57] Speaker 2: Some might argue the best two teams.
[13:00] Speaker 1: In the league, the Bears, who've got this thing rolling,
[13:03] Speaker 1: but Caleb Williams against Brian Flores, hey, hey, hey, that could,
[13:08] Speaker 1: you know, that could get ugly fast. The Bills, are
[13:11] Speaker 1: the Bills any must-win against Tampa Bay?
[13:16] Speaker 4: That's a great... white loyalty quarterback game between Josh Allen
[13:21] Speaker 4: and Baker Mayfield.
[13:22] Speaker 1: Yeah, there's going to be a lot of people unsure
[13:24] Speaker 1: of exactly who it is that they should be rooting
[13:27] Speaker 1: for or against in the course of this. But with
[13:29] Speaker 1: the Patriots being an actual factual football team and they
[13:33] Speaker 1: get to play the Jets on Thursday night at home,
[13:36] Speaker 1: so I presume they are going to be 9-2 going
[13:39] Speaker 1: into that game. If the Bills go down to 6-4,
[13:42] Speaker 1: they're playing the playoffs on the road. They're going to
[13:46] Speaker 1: have to go into other people's houses. And they've stacked
[13:48] Speaker 1: up a really good playoff record by feasting in large
[13:52] Speaker 1: part on the expansion of the playoffs to seven teams
[13:54] Speaker 1: because they are getting home games often against a team
[13:57] Speaker 1: that had no business being in the playoffs. And I
[14:00] Speaker 1: will throw this out here. And we've kind of lost
[14:02] Speaker 1: track of this. If the Bills really come up disappointing
[14:06] Speaker 1: this year, right? Let's say the Bills are a wildcard team.
[14:09] Speaker 1: Let's say the Bills lose in the first round. Ryan,
[14:16] Speaker 1: Sean McDermott's getting fired, right?
[14:17] Speaker 4: Getting him out of there.
[14:19] Speaker 2: Like, I think we forgot about the story.
[14:22] Speaker 4: The story.
[14:23] Speaker 2: The thorough, thorough.
[14:25] Speaker 5: Well-reported.
[14:26] Speaker 2: Thorough reporting.
[14:27] Speaker 4: Never disputed.
[14:28] Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah.
[14:29] Speaker 1: The Tyler Duds run up and down. And I say
[14:31] Speaker 1: this every time I talk about him. His newsletter is
[14:33] Speaker 1: a magazine, man.
[14:34] Speaker 2: Like it's, it's legit.
[14:35] Speaker 1: Like it's legitimately stunning that it's, it's, it ain't just,
[14:38] Speaker 1: I put some stuff.
[14:39] Speaker 2: Out here on Substack.
[14:40] Speaker 6: Right.
[14:40] Speaker 2: Right.
[14:41] Speaker 1: But he ran through it with McDermott and a, I
[14:44] Speaker 1: thought a reason case for why he was what held
[14:46] Speaker 1: Buffalo back. Now I think what holds Buffalo back as
[14:49] Speaker 1: much as anything else is Josh Allen's just being as
[14:51] Speaker 1: he's Atlas, right? He just got the world on his shoulders.
[14:55] Speaker 1: But if they don't get it done, he's been there
[14:57] Speaker 1: a long time. My buddy, Nick makes the point. I
[14:59] Speaker 1: think that no quarterback and coach have been together for
[15:02] Speaker 1: this long ever without going to a Super Bowl.
[15:05] Speaker 4: Right. And usually you go, I think if you don't,
[15:08] Speaker 4: the sad is if you don't win in the first
[15:10] Speaker 4: five years.
[15:11] Speaker 5: Yes.
[15:11] Speaker 4: With your coach and your quarterback together, you're not, you don't.
[15:14] Speaker 2: McDermott's had this job for eight years. This is year nine. Right.
[15:19] Speaker 2: Like it's easy to lose sight of that. Now look,
[15:22] Speaker 2: it's the.
[15:23] Speaker 1: 20 years prior to this were much different, right? They
[15:27] Speaker 1: missed the playoffs 19 years in a row. OK, it's
[15:31] Speaker 1: been an uptick, but if they lose this game, they've
[15:35] Speaker 1: got giant problems. I think if this goes, we got
[15:40] Speaker 1: any more like I feel like we got 49ers Cardinals
[15:43] Speaker 1: 49ers might lose that game, by the way. Ravens Browns,
[15:47] Speaker 1: the Browns do sneak up on people every now and then. Oh,
[15:50] Speaker 1: I forgot Chiefs Broncos. And where are those Broncos fans now?
[15:54] Speaker 5: Right.
[15:55] Speaker 2: When it comes to Bo Nix.
[15:56] Speaker 4: Give me interesting to say.
[15:58] Speaker 2: Yeah, because I don't know if you.
[15:59] Speaker 1: Saw this, but apparently Colin Coward has said publicly that
[16:02] Speaker 1: don't be surprised if Peyton wants to move on from
[16:05] Speaker 1: Bo Nix and Colin and Peyton are cool.
[16:08] Speaker 3: Yeah.
[16:09] Speaker 2: But isn't this just year two for Bo Nix?
[16:11] Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean, but if you didn't... I mean, you
[16:14] Speaker 4: also played eight years in college.
[16:16] Speaker 2: He did.
[16:18] Speaker 1: How you feel about Bo Nix and his potential really
[16:21] Speaker 1: has a lot to do with how much college football
[16:23] Speaker 1: you watch.
[16:23] Speaker 5: Correct.
[16:23] Speaker 2: Like overall.
[16:24] Speaker 4: And what point you watched it.
[16:26] Speaker 2: Correct.
[16:26] Speaker 1: Because if all you got was the Oregon, even Oregon
[16:29] Speaker 1: was a pretty clear fake out. But if you saw
[16:31] Speaker 1: Auburn Bo Nix, he's supposed to be a college quarterback.
[16:34] Speaker 1: You know what he's supposed to be like?
[16:35] Speaker 2: Major Applewhite?
[16:37] Speaker 3: No, no.
[16:37] Speaker 2: More like Chad Kelly.
[16:39] Speaker 4: Got it.
[16:39] Speaker 1: Major Applewhite, very similar in the sense that a college
[16:42] Speaker 1: quarterback that we remember and talk about.
[16:44] Speaker 2: But Bo Nix was an experience. Chad Kelly was an experience, right?
[16:50] Speaker 4: Where it's like, Oh, there's no, Steven Garcia was an experience.
[16:53] Speaker 2: Yes.
[16:53] Speaker 3: Yes.
[16:54] Speaker 2: Jordan Jefferson was an experience, right? That's the, how did
[16:59] Speaker 2: he get taken in the top 15 of the draft?
[17:02] Speaker 6: Right.
[17:03] Speaker 4: Like I remember Bo Nix in Auburn and seeing him.
[17:05] Speaker 4: I was like, wow, he's going to be really good
[17:08] Speaker 4: at radio or someone's quarterback coach by this point. The
[17:14] Speaker 4: idea that he would be an actual factual NFL starter
[17:17] Speaker 4: and then an actual factual NFL first round pick. I
[17:20] Speaker 4: never considered.
[17:21] Speaker 5: Yeah.
[17:21] Speaker 1: Like he couldn't even be selling cars. He should be
[17:23] Speaker 1: selling ATVs. Something, something a little bit more exciting. Right.
[17:27] Speaker 4: Right.
[17:28] Speaker 1: Like something, something that gets your blood pressure up just
[17:31] Speaker 1: a little bit, but they're.
[17:33] Speaker 2: Eight and two.
[17:34] Speaker 4: Somehow, some way.
[17:35] Speaker 1: Now, if the chiefs, this is a road game and
[17:37] Speaker 1: it's a division. So like thought it was possibly better. Oh,
[17:40] Speaker 1: if the chiefs lose this game, now I do think
[17:42] Speaker 1: they are in trouble.
[17:44] Speaker 3: Right.
[17:44] Speaker 1: Cause you got to come back and you got to
[17:45] Speaker 1: win the games to get up there. Right.
[17:47] Speaker 2: They are, they, they are right now.
[17:50] Speaker 1: On the outside looking again, which is something that none
[17:52] Speaker 1: of us really take seriously.
[17:55] Speaker 6: Right.
[17:55] Speaker 1: But one more loss, you kind of need to win
[17:58] Speaker 1: this game. So it's going to be a dope week.
[18:01] Speaker 1: Let's see how it goes. What if you could consistently
[18:05] Speaker 1: find whatever it is you're looking for right away? We're

[19:08] Speaker 2: All right, NBA. I fired up the league pass on
[19:13] Speaker 2: Wednesday night, watching some basketball.
[19:16] Speaker 1: I was watching the Warriors and the Spurs, and we
[19:20] Speaker 1: had talked about how things were getting a little dicey
[19:22] Speaker 1: for the Warriors. right I don't know how much of
[19:25] Speaker 1: that game that you got to see uh the Warriors
[19:28] Speaker 1: won the game because it was a Jimmy and Steph
[19:31] Speaker 1: run shit kind of game where Steph Curry had what
[19:34] Speaker 1: is it 46 points I want to say in that
[19:35] Speaker 1: game but there were long stretches of him off the
[19:38] Speaker 1: floor and Jimmy doing that Jimmy thing where I just
[19:41] Speaker 1: carry everything this is immediately after you know the the
[19:45] Speaker 1: heat on what exactly does Jimmy do We're starting to
[19:47] Speaker 1: come up.
[19:48] Speaker 4: Right.
[19:49] Speaker 2: And it was like, no, you can have long stretches
[19:50] Speaker 2: for stuff. Doesn't play.
[19:52] Speaker 1: Cause if nothing else, whether it goes exactly how you
[19:54] Speaker 1: want or not, this guy is going to do that.
[19:57] Speaker 4: He's got it. Whether or not it goes well as
[19:59] Speaker 4: to be seen, but he is certainly a, yeah. Let
[20:01] Speaker 4: me even talk about someone sneaky, old.
[20:04] Speaker 2: Sneaky, old, him, Draymond, um, Steph, um, Yeah, they're sneaky old.
[20:10] Speaker 1: Speaking of sneaky old Draymond, Draymond was out there trying
[20:14] Speaker 1: to guard Victor. First of all, I don't know how much,
[20:16] Speaker 1: like the Victor highlights are one thing. You got to
[20:19] Speaker 1: watch the whole game, man. Like he's the only guy
[20:23] Speaker 1: I've ever seen that can guard. So if it's two
[20:25] Speaker 1: on one break, right? You're at once trying to guard
[20:28] Speaker 1: the ball in the basket and you're trying to stop
[20:31] Speaker 1: before you have to commit to one or the other
[20:34] Speaker 1: on defense.
[20:35] Speaker 2: He can guard both.
[20:37] Speaker 1: Correct.
[20:37] Speaker 2: All the time.
[20:38] Speaker 4: He blocked a three-pointer with his foot in the paint.
[20:42] Speaker 2: He did. He did.
[20:44] Speaker 1: And by the way, I love that it was Draymond
[20:45] Speaker 1: Green that even tried. Because Jimmy Butler looked like me
[20:48] Speaker 1: playing against my brother when I was growing up. And understand,
[20:51] Speaker 1: my brother's 13 years older than me.
[20:54] Speaker 9: So it was probably a similar height difference. Yeah, he's not.
[20:57] Speaker 9: Jimmy Butler's 6'8. He's not putting this up like anywhere
[21:02] Speaker 9: near him. Get into the basket, dribble it right back out.
[21:06] Speaker 9: We're not doing this. Draymond's trying to guard him. Ryan,
[21:09] Speaker 9: he's dream shaking and shooting lefty hooks in the paint.
[21:13] Speaker 2: He didn't make it. But the fact that that was
[21:15] Speaker 2: even on the board, like how smoothly he's getting these
[21:19] Speaker 2: shots up at these. I don't know who's supposed to
[21:21] Speaker 2: guard him. The Spurs.
[21:23] Speaker 1: The Spurs are going to be a top three seed,
[21:25] Speaker 1: I think, in the West. I don't know how far
[21:27] Speaker 1: they're going to go because they are so young. And
[21:30] Speaker 1: shout out to that dude, Cisco. We talked about that
[21:32] Speaker 1: the other day. He's finally gotten his ass in line. And,
[21:36] Speaker 1: you know, somebody had to grab the back of his
[21:38] Speaker 1: neck to make them listen to them.
[21:40] Speaker 2: And he finally has chilled out with his behavior.
[21:43] Speaker 4: And he got a lot of guards. It's a lot
[21:45] Speaker 4: of Fox, Harper, and Castle.
[21:47] Speaker 2: Well, that's the other part, too, is they was running
[21:49] Speaker 2: Cisco at the point.
[21:50] Speaker 4: Right, right.
[21:51] Speaker 1: Greg Hopovich is a great coach. I do not think
[21:53] Speaker 1: they did a great job down the stretch there. This dude, Mitch,
[21:57] Speaker 1: the new coach, they seem to be playing better ball
[22:01] Speaker 1: in this regard. But the Warriors still came in and
[22:05] Speaker 1: got that. Like, we're going to see what ultimately happens
[22:08] Speaker 1: with them. But it seems pretty clear up through this
[22:11] Speaker 1: point in the NBA season. To me, the West, Oklahoma
[22:16] Speaker 1: City and Denver. By the way, Jokic put up.
[22:20] Speaker 2: I'm sorry. The guy that ain't no better than Drew.
[22:25] Speaker 1: Holiday put up an easy 55 on the Clippers.
[22:30] Speaker 2: An easy 55.
[22:31] Speaker 1: Ryan, I need to chill because I'm feeling like white
[22:34] Speaker 1: folks now where I ain't never going to let you
[22:36] Speaker 1: forget that you did that one thing ever wrong ever
[22:39] Speaker 1: in your life. No sirree, Bob. How dare you disrespect
[22:42] Speaker 1: this Caucasian hero? But on the real, how dare he?
[22:46] Speaker 4: People are going to start having some pretty crazy conversations
[22:49] Speaker 4: about Jokic if he wins another MVP. There's going to
[22:53] Speaker 4: start being Yogurt LeBron stuff. I'm just saying.
[23:01] Speaker 2: But here's where it becomes tricky.
[23:03] Speaker 5: Right.
[23:04] Speaker 2: The question becomes, why not?
[23:08] Speaker 4: Yeah. I'm not saying it's unfounded.
[23:10] Speaker 5: Yeah, now, a.
[23:10] Speaker 2: Championship would help.
[23:12] Speaker 1: Now, what's going to be interesting and I think helpful
[23:14] Speaker 1: for LeBron in terms of historical legacy is putting up
[23:18] Speaker 1: four championships the way that he did, the way that
[23:20] Speaker 1: Steph did.
[23:21] Speaker 2: I think that's going to be a lot harder now.
[23:23] Speaker 4: Almost impossible.
[23:24] Speaker 1: Yeah, the era of runs of championships. So you think
[23:27] Speaker 1: about it, for example, the 1980s, three teams won championships
[23:32] Speaker 1: in the 1980s. I mean, the Lakers, the Celtics... The
[23:36] Speaker 1: Pistons and the Sixers, right.
[23:37] Speaker 2: It was four. But you got to.
[23:41] Speaker 1: A point where the Lakers won two in a row.
[23:43] Speaker 1: The Pistons won two in a row. The Bulls won
[23:46] Speaker 1: three in a row. The Rockets won two in a row.
[23:48] Speaker 1: The Bulls won three in a row. The Spurs won one.
[23:51] Speaker 1: The Lakers won three. The Spurs won one. But you
[23:55] Speaker 1: see how this run goes.
[23:58] Speaker 4: The Bulls won six in eight years. The Lakers won
[24:00] Speaker 4: like five in 11 or something like that.
[24:02] Speaker 1: Yeah, but it was these long stretches with LeBron in
[24:05] Speaker 1: the heat and LeBron making the finals eight straight years,
[24:08] Speaker 1: for example. I don't think that's going to be something
[24:11] Speaker 1: that you could do. The 1970s were similar to this
[24:13] Speaker 1: where you did not have repeat champions. The Celtics won
[24:16] Speaker 1: two in the decade. The Knicks won two. Then otherwise,
[24:19] Speaker 1: you just got a lot of mixing and matching that's
[24:21] Speaker 1: going on. But Especially as the advanced numbers become a
[24:25] Speaker 1: bigger thing and the fact that I don't think Jokic
[24:27] Speaker 1: is going to play 23 years, but I think he
[24:29] Speaker 1: has a game that's going to be conducive to a
[24:31] Speaker 1: similar level of longevity to what LeBron's game was. Yeah,
[24:37] Speaker 1: if Jokic wins another MVP, those discussions are going to
[24:40] Speaker 1: come up.
[24:41] Speaker 2: Or how about this, Ryan?
[24:42] Speaker 1: Does it become a Jokic-Curry kind of discussion? Does it
[24:47] Speaker 1: become about an individual in that? Or is it just
[24:49] Speaker 1: about putting him in that space?
[24:51] Speaker 4: In that class.
[24:52] Speaker 1: Because the regular season results make it unequivocal that he
[24:55] Speaker 1: is of that level.
[24:57] Speaker 5: Right.
[24:57] Speaker 4: I mean, you're getting the four MVPs, which he's certainly
[25:01] Speaker 4: got to be one of the favorites for. It'll be him, Luka,
[25:04] Speaker 4: and Victor.
[25:05] Speaker 6: Yes.
[25:05] Speaker 4: And SGA probably running that as the four leading candidates.
[25:10] Speaker 5: Yes.
[25:11] Speaker 4: And people are going to start looking back at the
[25:13] Speaker 4: Joel Embiid MVP like the Steve Nash MVPs.
[25:17] Speaker 10: It is.
[25:18] Speaker 2: I mean, I do that. The Derrick Rose MVP is
[25:24] Speaker 2: not the exact same.
[25:25] Speaker 4: But it's in the same conversation.
[25:27] Speaker 5: You know what?
[25:27] Speaker 1: The Derrick Rose MVP, the more I think about it,
[25:30] Speaker 1: is kind of in the same lane as the Charles
[25:31] Speaker 1: Barkley MVP, which is.
[25:34] Speaker 2: A legitimate MVP, right?
[25:38] Speaker 1: But yeah, no, this is, by the way, I watched
[25:41] Speaker 1: the Thunders slap the taste out of the Lakers' mouths
[25:44] Speaker 1: on Wednesday night.
[25:45] Speaker 2: Jalen Williams isn't even playing, man.
[25:48] Speaker 3: Right.
[25:48] Speaker 1: Like, this is the thing about them. There's no reason
[25:51] Speaker 1: to believe that they've even come close to peaking as
[25:53] Speaker 1: to what they could be because the whole team is
[25:55] Speaker 1: 17 years old.
[25:58] Speaker 4: And if the season ended right now, they'd have two
[26:00] Speaker 4: top 10 picks.
[26:01] Speaker 2: And they have a zillion. What are you even supposed
[26:05] Speaker 2: to do? Like, if you're Presti, what are we supposed
[26:08] Speaker 2: to do with this team? We've got these picks. What
[26:11] Speaker 2: do I do?
[26:12] Speaker 1: Trade them and try to get Giannis? They have enough
[26:16] Speaker 1: stuff to get Giannis in and not really hurt. They
[26:19] Speaker 1: got a bunch of picks they don't really need.
[26:21] Speaker 4: They can trade for Giannis and not give up Chet, Jalen,
[26:25] Speaker 4: or SGA. I mean, obviously, you get into the cap
[26:27] Speaker 4: and the hard cap and all that stuff. Maybe not
[26:30] Speaker 4: the salaries, but before the second apron era of the NBA,
[26:33] Speaker 4: they have enough They could probably make the best offer.
[26:37] Speaker 4: It's them or Houston.
[26:38] Speaker 2: There's nothing that they can't do.
[26:41] Speaker 1: Like I don't, this, and I know we say this
[26:45] Speaker 1: just about every time a team wins a championship, but
[26:47] Speaker 1: I don't think we've ever had a championship team this
[26:48] Speaker 1: young where everybody just feels this young. There's another wave
[26:53] Speaker 1: of guys that's on the way.
[26:55] Speaker 2: To come up.
[26:55] Speaker 1: I don't, it's going to be tough for everybody. And
[27:00] Speaker 1: the Spurs, like I said, I think the Spurs are
[27:02] Speaker 1: going to be up there by the end of the year,
[27:04] Speaker 1: just because they look, they look really talented, man. They
[27:07] Speaker 1: got guards. They've got this, whatever you want to call them.
[27:11] Speaker 1: They're going to be up there. I watched some of
[27:13] Speaker 1: the Pistons last night, but then I found out that
[27:16] Speaker 1: they good players like Cade wasn't playing.
[27:19] Speaker 2: Just like, and I ain't really getting into this.
[27:21] Speaker 1: The East looks, the East looks like a bunch of
[27:25] Speaker 1: teams that should be very happy to get to the finals.
[27:29] Speaker 1: But with that in mind, the best story this year
[27:33] Speaker 1: to me, and I mean best in terms of it's
[27:35] Speaker 1: somewhat entertaining and I think it's actually kind of fascinating
[27:38] Speaker 1: as a topic of discussion is whatever is going on
[27:41] Speaker 1: with Memphis where John Morant is clearly done with this.
[27:47] Speaker 2: Clearly.
[27:49] Speaker 1: I said, and you could go look at it, I'm
[27:52] Speaker 1: sure we put out short videos of it and people
[27:54] Speaker 1: said I was crazy, but I said when they made
[27:57] Speaker 1: that move and they traded Desmond Bain to the Magic,
[28:02] Speaker 1: that the next play is to trade John Morant. Because
[28:07] Speaker 1: it's not so much that they traded Bain, it's that
[28:09] Speaker 1: they traded Bain for a bunch of picks, which means
[28:13] Speaker 1: that you made a trade that was not intended to
[28:15] Speaker 1: make your team better in the short run. And if
[28:17] Speaker 1: you're making trades with a player of the stature of
[28:22] Speaker 1: John Morant, and you also have Jaron Jackson, and you're
[28:25] Speaker 1: not trying to get better, then... Are you tearing this down?
[28:29] Speaker 1: That's the kind of move that you make when you're
[28:31] Speaker 1: about to tear a team down. Let me tell you
[28:33] Speaker 1: something about Jaron Jackson that I did not fully realize.
[28:37] Speaker 1: It's one of those things that is obvious when you
[28:39] Speaker 1: watch his game, but until you look at the numbers,
[28:42] Speaker 1: you don't really realize this. And I just don't understand
[28:45] Speaker 1: how this is possible. Jaron Jackson, for those of you
[28:49] Speaker 1: who are unfamiliar, is listed at 6'10. He has never
[28:55] Speaker 1: averaged seven rebounds a game and has only had one
[28:58] Speaker 1: season averaging six rebounds a game. Ryan, how is that possible?
[29:02] Speaker 4: That is a, I hate to be this person, but
[29:04] Speaker 4: that's a, we used to be a proper country. It is.
[29:07] Speaker 2: I don't see how this is possible.
[29:09] Speaker 6: Right.
[29:09] Speaker 2: I don't.
[29:10] Speaker 4: Right.
[29:10] Speaker 2: But John doesn't like what the team is doing.
[29:15] Speaker 1: It's fair to ask physically how much John Morant has left.
[29:19] Speaker 4: Right.
[29:20] Speaker 2: And he's clearly not trying very hard.
[29:24] Speaker 1: Which him not trying very hard jumps out, especially because
[29:29] Speaker 1: of what the strategy is that they're doing. So the
[29:32] Speaker 1: Grizzlies got this new coach. Let me read this off
[29:34] Speaker 1: the page. because I ain't heard nobody say his name,
[29:36] Speaker 1: but his name seems to be Thomas Isalo.
[29:40] Speaker 2: He from Europe. I know he worked over there in Finland.
[29:44] Speaker 1: He's got this idea of how he wants to play,
[29:47] Speaker 1: where he wants to have guys out there and play
[29:51] Speaker 1: as hard as they can, three or four minutes at
[29:56] Speaker 1: a time. And then kind of run line shifts to
[30:00] Speaker 1: get the guys out of there. Which, like to me,
[30:04] Speaker 1: if you're going to do that, you might as well
[30:05] Speaker 1: be running like 40 minutes of hell full court press.
[30:08] Speaker 2: Like that feels like very much a college approach.
[30:12] Speaker 1: Apparently there were some tough times with it in Europe
[30:15] Speaker 1: when he did it, but it ultimately worked. It is
[30:18] Speaker 1: counter to the conventional wisdom of NBA basketball. which is
[30:22] Speaker 1: to keep your best players on the floor as much
[30:23] Speaker 1: as you possibly can. He would not be the first
[30:26] Speaker 1: coach to try to play like 10 guys as your rotation.
[30:32] Speaker 1: QB Brown, this was his standard operating procedure.
[30:37] Speaker 4: Steve Kerr famously likes to almost play everyone on his bench.
[30:40] Speaker 2: Yeah, he tries, right? But when it's time to really
[30:43] Speaker 2: do something.
[30:44] Speaker 4: Correct.
[30:45] Speaker 1: None of these guys actually do that when it's time
[30:47] Speaker 1: to win. And so a guy like John Morant, yeah,
[30:50] Speaker 1: is going to push back. as something like this. Like,
[30:54] Speaker 1: I don't know if anybody's right in this situation, right?
[30:57] Speaker 1: Like this isn't one of those where I think that
[30:59] Speaker 1: nobody is wrong. I don't think that this is an
[31:01] Speaker 1: approach that can work for running an NBA team. And
[31:04] Speaker 1: I don't think that John Morant is, I don't think
[31:07] Speaker 1: he is comporting himself in a fashion befitting of an adult.
[31:12] Speaker 2: You know what I mean?
[31:13] Speaker 1: Like, nah, man, if this is what we doing, man,
[31:16] Speaker 1: get out here and play.
[31:17] Speaker 2: This is the way that I look at these things.
[31:19] Speaker 1: Um, but they're going to have to figure something out
[31:22] Speaker 1: because you don't have a lot of stories about guys
[31:24] Speaker 1: coming out here and acting like that.
[31:26] Speaker 2: And then suddenly coming around.
[31:28] Speaker 1: I don't think that the head coach is going to
[31:30] Speaker 1: be able to win him over if it is already
[31:32] Speaker 1: reached this point. I don't think anybody's right here, which
[31:37] Speaker 1: means I don't have any idea how to fix this
[31:40] Speaker 1: other than tear the whole thing down.
[31:42] Speaker 2: Here's the thing about tearing the whole thing down.
[31:47] Speaker 1: I hear people make the argument that the reason that
[31:50] Speaker 1: what's happening with the Mavericks is happening because Dumont, the owner,
[31:54] Speaker 1: wants to move the team to Las Vegas because.
[31:56] Speaker 2: They're Vegas people.
[31:57] Speaker 1: And I think that there might be something to the
[31:59] Speaker 1: idea that he wants to move the team to Vegas.
[32:02] Speaker 2: I just.
[32:04] Speaker 1: I wouldn't say I know Adam Silver, but I've met
[32:07] Speaker 1: Adam Silver. We've spoken many times. I've interviewed him multiple times.
[32:11] Speaker 1: He's not a fucking idiot, okay?
[32:13] Speaker 8: And.
[32:14] Speaker 1: Therefore, I don't think he's moving a team out of
[32:16] Speaker 1: Dallas to go to Las Vegas. Don't really see that happening, okay? However,
[32:24] Speaker 1: Memphis is a tough market for the NBA. The team
[32:27] Speaker 1: clearly has a foothold in the city, but I don't
[32:30] Speaker 1: know what the money hitting for there, okay? You tear
[32:34] Speaker 1: it down in a place like Memphis and the people
[32:36] Speaker 1: stop coming and that becomes a team that people try
[32:41] Speaker 1: to move.
[32:41] Speaker 2: To Las Vegas.
[32:44] Speaker 1: Just because of the size of the market that it's in, right?
[32:47] Speaker 2: That's how that sort of thing goes. If people start
[32:50] Speaker 2: talking about tearing.
[32:51] Speaker 1: This team down, I think you start then getting some
[32:54] Speaker 1: whispers of other stuff. But the larger point for me
[33:00] Speaker 1: is not every market can afford to tear things all
[33:03] Speaker 1: the way down to the studs because a lot of
[33:05] Speaker 1: markets don't have enough people who will still come to
[33:07] Speaker 1: games for you to do that and to make this
[33:10] Speaker 1: profitable and to make this worthwhile, right? So I don't
[33:13] Speaker 1: know what it is they're going to do there, but
[33:14] Speaker 1: whatever they're doing right now, they can't keep that up.
[33:16] Speaker 2: That ain't the business.
[33:19] Speaker 8: All right, Bo, like you said earlier, we had to
[33:27] Speaker 8: make a last-minute audible on this show, so we figured
[33:29] Speaker 8: it was a good time to empty out some of
[33:31] Speaker 8: the old voicemails.
[33:32] Speaker 4: Let's take a listen to some.
[33:35] Speaker 3: Hey, Bomani. It's Mike, originally from Rochester, now living in Charlotte,
[33:39] Speaker 3: North Carolina. And I'm just wondering, where is DJ Mike Hitman?
[33:44] Speaker 6: Where is he?
[33:45] Speaker 3: I haven't heard him in a long time. Maybe he's
[33:47] Speaker 3: on one of the other platforms. But just wanted to
[33:50] Speaker 3: see where is the OG, man? Is he doing well?
[33:53] Speaker 3: What's up? Or have I missed something? Can't wait to
[33:56] Speaker 3: hear from you. And also, I miss when you and
[33:59] Speaker 3: Shen will go on about Cam Newton and his yogisms, man.
[34:04] Speaker 3: I still laugh and chuckle about when you're standing on
[34:07] Speaker 3: the pinnacle. Keep doing what you're doing. I'm a longtime
[34:11] Speaker 3: subscriber and best of luck to y'all. Peace.
[34:15] Speaker 1: It is so funny that you mentioned that about Mike,
[34:18] Speaker 1: because I had a moment a couple of weeks ago
[34:20] Speaker 1: where I realized I had not talked to Mike in
[34:22] Speaker 1: a while. Like the last time I saw Mike, I
[34:26] Speaker 1: did a panel at the University of Chicago and and
[34:30] Speaker 1: Mike pulled up to check that out so you know
[34:32] Speaker 1: I love Mike pulling up me and Mike hanging out
[34:34] Speaker 1: at the University of Chicago like I'm up there with
[34:38] Speaker 1: prominent labor economists as the grad school flunk out right
[34:42] Speaker 1: I'm hanging in there and Mike down there Mike got
[34:44] Speaker 1: this clean light blue jacket a yellow.
[34:47] Speaker 2: Tie Mike had the hat and the whole night.
[34:50] Speaker 1: I had Mike in the front row and then that
[34:53] Speaker 1: night it snowed ridiculously it was crazy but anyway I
[34:56] Speaker 1: hadn't talked to Mike in a while and then I
[34:58] Speaker 1: called Mike And Mike did not answer, which never happens.
[35:03] Speaker 1: And then Mike did not call back, which also never happens.
[35:07] Speaker 1: And he called me back one day and I missed it.
[35:10] Speaker 1: And so he called me again. I mean, I called
[35:12] Speaker 1: him again, and he did not call back. And I
[35:15] Speaker 1: got nervous, right? Like, I was like, yo, is everything
[35:18] Speaker 1: okay with Mike? So I had to hit Goff, because
[35:19] Speaker 1: Goff know Chicago. Goff know Mike from up there, completely
[35:23] Speaker 1: separate from us, right? And so Goff hit him, and
[35:26] Speaker 1: Mike hit him back. And we're like, okay, cool.
[35:28] Speaker 2: Man, it turned out Mike was on the Tom Joyner cruise. Right.
[35:33] Speaker 2: So I talked to Mike. Mike calls me back. We
[35:36] Speaker 2: talked for a while. Mike told me that he was
[35:38] Speaker 2: on the town of Jordan Cruz. Mike was riding around
[35:41] Speaker 2: with two Nigerian prayer women is what he called them.
[35:44] Speaker 2: And I attempted to see if they was Nigerian and
[35:46] Speaker 2: they did. He put me on the phone with him.
[35:48] Speaker 1: We was talking about living in Nigeria, where I lived
[35:50] Speaker 1: and like, oh, in the north of the houses.
[35:52] Speaker 2: Yeah. So we were going back and forth. Mike sent
[35:55] Speaker 2: me some pictures of him in a sombrero with the homies.
[35:58] Speaker 2: They was all suited up. I bet Mike was in
[35:59] Speaker 2: a suit even on that cruise, by the way.
[36:03] Speaker 4: You turned me on to something that I, which was
[36:06] Speaker 4: a real treat, which DJ Mike hit man's Instagram.
[36:09] Speaker 3: Yes.
[36:09] Speaker 4: Because I had heard, I had obviously, you know, heard
[36:11] Speaker 4: the legends, but I had not, you know, gotten to put.
[36:14] Speaker 2: You had never seen Mike.
[36:14] Speaker 4: Never seen Mike. And man. Talk about something that lived
[36:18] Speaker 4: up to my expectations.
[36:20] Speaker 1: But you didn't realize that Mike Hitman is cock diesel.
[36:24] Speaker 4: You're also correct.
[36:26] Speaker 2: He told us that one day that by this workout,
[36:29] Speaker 2: we were like, all right, Mike, Mike.
[36:30] Speaker 1: And then he showed us Mike, Mike hit the vapor
[36:33] Speaker 1: rub under his nose before we get out there. Y'all
[36:35] Speaker 1: really want no problems with Mike Hitman. Mike told me
[36:37] Speaker 1: he gonna run for president of Mexico. He said he
[36:40] Speaker 1: was down there talking to the people. He said he
[36:42] Speaker 1: ain't know what they were saying because it was in Spanish,
[36:44] Speaker 1: but he know that they need him.
[36:46] Speaker 6: Sure.
[36:47] Speaker 2: And so, hey, you know, Mike para presidente. So, yeah, no,
[36:51] Speaker 2: Mike's good. Did you ever get in touch with him?
[36:54] Speaker 4: I have not gotten in touch with Mike. I have
[36:55] Speaker 4: to be honest, I'm almost nervous.
[36:59] Speaker 2: It's so easy.
[37:00] Speaker 1: As anybody, there are people who have listened to this
[37:02] Speaker 1: show back when Mike used to give his phone number
[37:04] Speaker 1: all the time, who just called Mike up, and all
[37:07] Speaker 1: you got to say.
[37:07] Speaker 2: Is, you cool with me, no matter who you are.
[37:10] Speaker 1: I wouldn't do it today, but I can put Mike's
[37:12] Speaker 1: phone number on here, and you can just call Mike
[37:14] Speaker 1: when you're in Chicago and say, hey, I'm with Beaumont.
[37:17] Speaker 2: Michael, meet you and show you around. You know, Michael,
[37:20] Speaker 2: come hang out with you.
[37:21] Speaker 1: No, just call, hey, I'm Ryan, I'm Bo's new producer. Bye, y'all,
[37:25] Speaker 1: because we do need more Mike. That was the hardest
[37:28] Speaker 1: thing about changing the show from radio to podcast was
[37:31] Speaker 1: it was much more difficult to get Mike involved because
[37:35] Speaker 1: I'm not sure we have any of these things, if
[37:37] Speaker 1: not for Mike.
[37:38] Speaker 4: Yeah, we'll have to sort that out. And again, the cam-isms.
[37:41] Speaker 4: Talk about something that never disappoints.
[37:43] Speaker 2: Oh, man, I forgot to tell Shannon. I got to
[37:44] Speaker 2: tell Shannon next time he comes on.
[37:45] Speaker 1: We got to we got to roll it back because
[37:47] Speaker 1: what's Shannon was doing that before we started doing the
[37:52] Speaker 1: national show together. So we came when we were doing local.
[37:54] Speaker 1: He wasn't doing it. And then he picked it up.
[37:57] Speaker 1: And so I did not feel comfortable taking it with
[37:59] Speaker 1: me because that's Shannon's right.
[38:01] Speaker 2: But it is great.
[38:02] Speaker 1: Anytime he comes back and we roll those out, especially
[38:05] Speaker 1: not in caves on TV.
[38:06] Speaker 4: Oh, yeah, and he's giving the cam-isms at all hours
[38:10] Speaker 4: of the day.
[38:11] Speaker 3: He is.
[38:11] Speaker 4: All right, here's our next one.
[38:14] Speaker 6: Hey, Bo.
[38:15] Speaker 10: This is Landon from Connecticut, and I've been a longtime fan.
[38:20] Speaker 10: You and I are the same age. I turned 45
[38:23] Speaker 10: back in April, and I know you have the same
[38:27] Speaker 10: birthday as Macaulay Culkin, fellow 1980 baby.
[38:29] Speaker 2: Anyway, I got.
[38:33] Speaker 10: Lots of praise I can give to you and all that,
[38:35] Speaker 10: but I just have one question. I remember an interstitial
[38:42] Speaker 10: on PTI, or not PTI, Round the Horn, excuse me,
[38:48] Speaker 10: and where they were talking about putting together a dream
[38:51] Speaker 10: band for a certain amount of money. You know, you
[38:53] Speaker 10: get a budget, you know, $ 1 for this drummer, $ 2
[38:56] Speaker 10: for this drummer, yada, yada, yada. And I remember you saying...
[39:01] Speaker 10: briefly in that commercial time frame prince prince prince prince
[39:06] Speaker 10: yep and the singer van morrison now i already knew
[39:12] Speaker 10: you were a huge prince fan as am i you
[39:14] Speaker 10: know um big time prince fan i got prince questions
[39:18] Speaker 10: galore for you another time but always curious where the
[39:23] Speaker 10: van morrison love came from and i'm you know don't
[39:27] Speaker 10: i heard you talk about bowie a lot but never
[39:29] Speaker 10: much about Van Morrison. Wonder if you can expand on that.
[39:33] Speaker 3: Thanks.
[39:35] Speaker 2: Yeah, man. So, I mean, what happened was very simple.
[39:38] Speaker 2: I started listening to Van Morrison. It was like, Hey man,
[39:42] Speaker 2: my boy can go. Like he's a one of one type.
[39:46] Speaker 2: I find is it's so interesting. I find that his
[39:50] Speaker 2: music is very soul music adjacent, right? Like them Irish cats, man.
[39:57] Speaker 1: Irish popular music always traffics in an interesting space. Now
[40:01] Speaker 1: he doesn't do the fun thing that I prefer, which
[40:03] Speaker 1: is clear out in front Irish accent when.
[40:07] Speaker 2: I wake up, you know, like that. He doesn't quite
[40:10] Speaker 2: give you that, right?
[40:12] Speaker 1: But it's the soul of the music that is so
[40:14] Speaker 1: clear and a really interesting like production style from him
[40:17] Speaker 1: because it is, Very jazz in some ways, but also, again, very,
[40:21] Speaker 1: very Irish folkish. And I'm really just talking about the
[40:24] Speaker 1: 68 to 74 run. But I will tell you.
[40:27] Speaker 5: This, man.
[40:28] Speaker 1: I went to go see Van Morrison at Forest Hills
[40:30] Speaker 1: in 2014. A, that is the whitest thing I have
[40:36] Speaker 1: ever done or been to in my life.
[40:39] Speaker 4: Oh, interesting.
[40:40] Speaker 2: I've never seen fewer people of color in a place.
[40:43] Speaker 4: Can I tell you the whitest concert I've ever been to?
[40:45] Speaker 2: Do tell.
[40:46] Speaker 4: Billy Joel at Madison Square Garden.
[40:48] Speaker 2: I could see that.
[40:49] Speaker 4: I mean, there was, it was single digits.
[40:55] Speaker 2: But what's so.
[40:55] Speaker 1: Interesting about that is, again, neither of them, I believe,
[40:58] Speaker 1: have music that is like people of color or verse.
[41:01] Speaker 1: I don't understand exactly how that goes. But let me
[41:04] Speaker 1: tell you, number two, no performer has ever treated me
[41:09] Speaker 1: as a patron with less respect.
[41:13] Speaker 2: Than Van Morrison. It's never felt more like a transaction.
[41:18] Speaker 2: then that Van Boren's a concert.
[41:19] Speaker 1: He got a band that's set in an arc, so
[41:22] Speaker 1: they don't even play for the crowd. They just play
[41:24] Speaker 1: for each other. He's standing still, and he's singing. The
[41:27] Speaker 1: last song is Gloria, and everybody in the band got
[41:31] Speaker 1: to do a little flourish or whatever, but I ain't
[41:33] Speaker 1: never had nothing quite like this, where that man walked
[41:35] Speaker 1: off the stage, and I went with my brother, and
[41:37] Speaker 1: I looked at him and was like, ain't no encore,
[41:39] Speaker 1: big dog.
[41:40] Speaker 2: We can leave right now.
[41:44] Speaker 4: All right, here's one more.
[41:46] Speaker 6: What's up, Bo?
[41:47] Speaker 5: I'm Ryan from Ryan.
[41:48] Speaker 6: Listening to you and Shannon talk, y'all mentioned the magician.
[41:53] Speaker 6: So I'm at my boy's party in Harlem. He does
[41:57] Speaker 6: his end of summer party every year. And I'm at
[42:00] Speaker 6: the party, you know, mainly when he is a mixed
[42:03] Speaker 6: friend group. Talking to one of the guests there, the
[42:06] Speaker 6: guy's talking, I'm like, yo, how do you know the
[42:08] Speaker 6: host of the party? And he's like, yo, I know him.
[42:12] Speaker 6: We're trying to organize like a fundraiser, charity run thing,
[42:15] Speaker 6: like organized events. So I actually just met him not
[42:18] Speaker 6: too long ago. You know, and that's what I do.
[42:21] Speaker 6: I plan charitable events, usually in the fitness realm. That's
[42:24] Speaker 6: my day job. Well, that's what I'm doing when I'm
[42:27] Speaker 6: not doing magic. You know, I've been doing it for
[42:29] Speaker 6: a few years. And he just talking about his job,
[42:31] Speaker 6: talking about his job. And I cut him off. And
[42:34] Speaker 6: I said, hold on, bro. Did you say you do magic?
[42:37] Speaker 6: And he's like, yeah. Bro, this motherfucker pulled out like
[42:43] Speaker 6: a deck of cards. Starts doing magic tricks. He did
[42:48] Speaker 6: magic for like the next hour. And then he just
[42:51] Speaker 6: said goodnight. He had dinner reservations and he left. And
[42:56] Speaker 6: the crazy thing is about a couple, I told one
[42:58] Speaker 6: of my boys about it, a mutual friend of the host.
[43:01] Speaker 6: And a couple months later, he linked up with that
[43:04] Speaker 6: host somewhere. And that's when my motherfucker was dead and
[43:08] Speaker 6: he did it again.
[43:08] Speaker 5: All right, man.
[43:10] Speaker 6: Enjoy your day, man. Love the show.
[43:14] Speaker 2: I mean... He is acknowledging, though, it was dope, right?
[43:18] Speaker 4: Magic is dope.
[43:19] Speaker 2: Like, I feel like if he did it for a
[43:21] Speaker 2: whole hour.
[43:22] Speaker 1: Yeah.
[43:23] Speaker 4: Do you know how long an hour is? Like, think
[43:27] Speaker 4: about how, like, that is, like, think about stand-up for
[43:30] Speaker 4: an hour or a concert for an hour. But now
[43:32] Speaker 4: this is a non-professional.
[43:34] Speaker 2: Hey, trying to do a podcast for an hour by yourself, right?
[43:40] Speaker 4: And you don't have to do any sleight of hand.
[43:42] Speaker 2: He did that for a full hour. After a certain point,
[43:44] Speaker 2: he's like, excuse me, young lady, what is your name?
[43:46] Speaker 1: Come up here for a second. All right, I'm going
[43:47] Speaker 1: to show you something. Okay, now everybody here. I love
[43:50] Speaker 1: that he's stay ready, right? And every turn, he's ready.
[43:53] Speaker 4: He has his gear with him.
[43:54] Speaker 2: Yeah, but I'm going to tell you this, man.
[43:57] Speaker 1: If you have a mastery at what you do and
[44:01] Speaker 1: the confidence to do it, you can own any room.
[44:05] Speaker 2: Forget about just magic. My man, Lyndon. I'm sure Lyndon
[44:08] Speaker 2: is listening to this show right now. Okay, Lyndon.
[44:11] Speaker 1: He's a skinny young man, but he's probably not skinny
[44:13] Speaker 1: anymore because he's a grown man now. But he is
[44:15] Speaker 1: from Kannapolis, North Carolina. He was one of my students
[44:19] Speaker 1: at North Carolina. Got a real strong, thick accent. Really, really,
[44:22] Speaker 1: really smart dude.
[44:23] Speaker 9: Right.
[44:23] Speaker 2: Knows a bunch of things about a bunch of stuff.
[44:24] Speaker 2: And he works in the shoe industry.
[44:26] Speaker 8: Right.
[44:26] Speaker 1: So one day I'm in California. This is about 15
[44:30] Speaker 1: years ago, I guess. I'm in California and I invite
[44:32] Speaker 1: him to hang out with me and a bunch of
[44:34] Speaker 1: my friends from graduate.
[44:35] Speaker 2: School, right?
[44:36] Speaker 1: So it's a wall-to-wall room of black people and Lyndon,
[44:39] Speaker 1: who is not, okay? Like we do not come from
[44:44] Speaker 1: the same places, right? So we are there and I
[44:48] Speaker 1: forget how this came up, but he was talking or
[44:51] Speaker 1: explaining how one would create a knockoff shoot, right? So
[44:57] Speaker 1: if one were to decide, To take a shoe that
[45:00] Speaker 1: is popular and to change it up just enough to
[45:05] Speaker 1: not get sued, but to still look like the shoe
[45:09] Speaker 1: that you hope to emulate.
[45:12] Speaker 2: And he got that confidence, right?
[45:14] Speaker 1: He's like, yeah, I will stand in this room full
[45:17] Speaker 1: of people and take off a shoe and give a
[45:19] Speaker 1: demonstration of how to create a knockoff.
[45:21] Speaker 2: And he did. And I watched as we were all engrossed.
[45:26] Speaker 4: That's awesome. It sounds fascinating.
[45:28] Speaker 2: We were not sober. He was. We weren't.
[45:31] Speaker 5: Right?
[45:31] Speaker 2: There was a bit of sobriety in the room.
[45:33] Speaker 1: And he stood up and he just took that off
[45:35] Speaker 1: and was like, okay, I take this and I put
[45:36] Speaker 1: this here.
[45:37] Speaker 2: We do this here. I turn this around. I do
[45:38] Speaker 2: this here. Ta-da! Knock-off shoot.
[45:41] Speaker 4: Right?
[45:42] Speaker 1: And I'm just saying, if you could pull that off
[45:43] Speaker 1: with knock-off shoes, imagine if you knew how to do magic. Like,
[45:48] Speaker 1: I bet you all of them did the... Well, David Copperfield,
[45:52] Speaker 1: wasn't he married to Claudia Schiffer?
[45:55] Speaker 4: I can't say that.
[45:56] Speaker 2: Yeah, that's what I'm saying.
[45:57] Speaker 1: I bet all the magicians, even them Penn and Teller dudes,
[46:01] Speaker 1: I bet they all got bad ones, man.
[46:03] Speaker 2: They can run a room. You can stand up there
[46:05] Speaker 2: and run a room. I love that anywhere this man go, though,
[46:07] Speaker 2: he got that deck of cards.
[46:09] Speaker 3: He is.
[46:12] Speaker 2: Doing tricks, all of this stuff.
[46:14] Speaker 4: All right, here's our last one.
[46:17] Speaker 5: Bo, long-time listener here. I have a really funny story
[46:21] Speaker 5: about a former pro basketball player and playing in an
[46:26] Speaker 5: intramural league in Parker, Colorado. This former basketball player is
[46:31] Speaker 5: none other than Earl Boykins, a whole 5'5 inches tall.
[46:37] Speaker 5: We were playing in a league, and we finally got
[46:40] Speaker 5: the opportunity to play against his team. A buddy of
[46:44] Speaker 5: mine on my team, and I really hope that he's
[46:46] Speaker 5: a listener of your show. I think he probably is.
[46:49] Speaker 5: pulls up to the game and says, man, Earl's 5'5.
[46:53] Speaker 5: Let me guard his little ass. Let me tell you
[46:56] Speaker 5: that there is a big, big, big, big difference between
[47:00] Speaker 5: a pro basketball player and a dude that has only
[47:03] Speaker 5: played high school. And he guarded Earl, and Earl dropped
[47:06] Speaker 5: probably 45 on us. Earl took it to the rack.
[47:10] Speaker 5: Not a single dude on our team could do anything.
[47:12] Speaker 5: He was shooting from beyond half court like it was
[47:15] Speaker 5: a regular three-pointer. I think we probably lost by 30
[47:19] Speaker 5: or 40, and they had to call the game early.
[47:21] Speaker 5: I've never seen anything like it, and I've never played
[47:23] Speaker 5: against somebody as talented as him. And all you have
[47:25] Speaker 5: to remind yourself in this situation is he's 5'5 and
[47:29] Speaker 5: played in the NBA. He had to be really good
[47:32] Speaker 5: to be 5'5 playing in the NBA. Love listening to
[47:35] Speaker 5: the show, man, and been wanting to tell this story
[47:38] Speaker 5: for a while.
[47:38] Speaker 4: Peace.
[47:40] Speaker 2: Hold on. Not just really good, but also really strong. Yes.
[47:43] Speaker 2: And so I think you need to be afraid.
[47:45] Speaker 4: Also strong and fast. Yes.
[47:48] Speaker 2: Like you need to be glad that there was not
[47:49] Speaker 2: a hard foul.
[47:50] Speaker 6: Right.
[47:51] Speaker 2: Mixed up in this. Like whose ass is little now, bitch?
[48:01] Speaker 1: I'll guard earl's little oh no no no i don't
[48:04] Speaker 1: care who it is if his name is earl don't
[48:07] Speaker 1: call him little ass nothing no just telling you he's
[48:10] Speaker 1: not man with that name ain't gonna.
[48:12] Speaker 4: Be an earl the third or an earl.
[48:14] Speaker 11: Junior no matter no little about earls because he was
[48:17] Speaker 11: raised by an earl right like like i got it

[48:24] Speaker 2: Earl a PhD. Earl is like a gourmet caliber chef.
[48:28] Speaker 2: Earl is from New Orleans.
[48:30] Speaker 4: Got it.
[48:31] Speaker 2: I don't think you want no problems with Earl.
[48:33] Speaker 4: I understand completely.
[48:34] Speaker 2: Earl been to Vietnam. You understand what I'm saying?
[48:39] Speaker 4: Earl seen some things.
[48:41] Speaker 1: And look, I ain't never seen Earl do nothing but smile.
[48:45] Speaker 1: But I say about New Orleans, I tell you right now,
[48:48] Speaker 1: I ain't met a sucker from New Orleans yet. Not
[48:52] Speaker 1: a single solitary one. Eli Manning will fuck you up.
[48:58] Speaker 1: You don't think that.
