On today’s episode, Vinnie Goodwill of Yahoo Sports joins Bomani Jones to recap some NBA offseason headlines. They start off the show by saying how shocking the Damian Lillard news was (0:58) and how it most likely won't help keep Giannis in Milwaukee (2:16). Continuing with the Giannis topic, Bo and Vinnie say why the Bucks would want Amen Thompson from the Rockets in return (15:24). After the break, Bo explains why it would be a mistake for the Lakers to acquire Deandre Ayton (31:45) and if the Denver Nuggets are now back to being the best team in the Western Conference again (41:15)? Bo and Vinnie round out the show by reacting to the Detroit News article on who Malik Beasley owed money to. (45:30) . . . [0:05] Speaker 1: Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the right time. A wave original.
[0:10] Speaker 1: My name is Beaumont Jones. Thanks for listening wherever you
[0:12] Speaker 1: get your podcast. Thanks for watching us on YouTube. Subscribe, like,
[0:16] Speaker 1: rate us, review us, give us five stars. You only
[0:19] Speaker 1: give us four stars. I'm inclined to believe you are
[0:21] Speaker 1: a hater. It is that time of week where we
[0:23] Speaker 1: have a guest join us. Coming to us live from
[0:26] Speaker 1: Yahoo Sports with all the shoes on the wall of
[0:28] Speaker 1: any goodwill that's going on.
[0:30] Speaker 2: What's happening, man?
[0:31] Speaker 1: Hey, man. It is very interesting what NBA free agency
[0:36] Speaker 1: has become, right? Because we are out of the era
[0:40] Speaker 1: of the big giant free agent deal, right? Where the
[0:43] Speaker 1: guy goes from one team to another. The cats have
[0:45] Speaker 1: all decided, I'm going to just lock in on this
[0:47] Speaker 1: deal and then I'm going to strong arm my way
[0:50] Speaker 1: out of here if it comes down to it. Now,
[0:53] Speaker 1: put a pin in that one because I have some
[0:54] Speaker 1: thoughts about that very idea. But I don't know if
[0:59] Speaker 1: I have been more shocked by any transaction ever in
[1:03] Speaker 1: the NBA. Keep it in mind, I woke up one
[1:06] Speaker 1: day at four o'clock in the morning and Luka Doncic
[1:09] Speaker 1: got traded for Anthony Davis, okay? I have never been
[1:13] Speaker 1: more shocked than you and I, you and I were
[1:16] Speaker 1: texting while this is going on because you actually got
[1:17] Speaker 1: to talk to people. I just be out here watching television.
[1:20] Speaker 1: So we see that Miles Turner has signed a $ 25
[1:23] Speaker 1: million a year deal to go to Milwaukee, which was
[1:27] Speaker 1: a surprise on a number of levels. Chief amongst them,
[1:30] Speaker 1: Milwaukee had no cash space. So I'm watching on TV
[1:33] Speaker 1: and it's Tim Bon Temps and Brian Windhorst and Bon
[1:36] Speaker 1: Temps is hypothesized that maybe, maybe they traded Kyle Kuzma
[1:41] Speaker 1: because Kyle Kuzma's salary matched up in order to make
[1:44] Speaker 1: this happen. And wrong. We found out that they waived
[1:49] Speaker 1: Dame Lillard. Somebody sent me a text and said they
[1:52] Speaker 1: waived Dame Lillard and not a person in the game,
[1:55] Speaker 1: just somebody. And I was like, hey, I need to
[1:57] Speaker 1: investigate this matter. I don't know if I can trust you,
[2:00] Speaker 1: my very intelligent friend, because nothing like this ever happened.
[2:05] Speaker 1: They waived him, stretched the $ 110 million out that they
[2:08] Speaker 1: owe him over five years of salary cap, presumably in
[2:14] Speaker 1: an attempt to keep Giannis. You think that's going to work?
[2:19] Speaker 3: Giannis will leave if he wants to leave. And I
[2:22] Speaker 3: think that's the thing that we miss. We naturally assume
[2:25] Speaker 3: that Giannis wants to leave when we've seen and we've
[2:29] Speaker 3: probably been in situations where you don't leave relationships unless
[2:33] Speaker 3: you want to. And plenty of times you get reasons
[2:37] Speaker 3: to leave, but you stay because you want to stay.
[2:38] Speaker 3: Milwaukee has given him reasons to leave. And then they
[2:42] Speaker 3: have gone and done something in the 23rd hour to
[2:45] Speaker 3: try to get him to stay. Now, this isn't getting
[2:47] Speaker 3: Drew Holiday in 2020. This isn't getting Dame Lillard two
[2:50] Speaker 3: years ago to get him to resign.
[2:53] Speaker 2: Bo, think about it like this.
[2:54] Speaker 3: His extension hasn't even kicked in yet. The extension that
[2:57] Speaker 3: he signed when they got Dame Lillard two years ago
[3:01] Speaker 3: doesn't kick in until this season.
[3:04] Speaker 2: So it's almost like the game just rewinds.
[3:07] Speaker 3: Now, on the Dame Lillard thing, it is utterly fascinating
[3:12] Speaker 3: for me that 110 over five.
[3:15] Speaker 2: Years, and they're like, you know what? We can swallow that.
[3:18] Speaker 2: We can eat that.
[3:19] Speaker 3: That is a above-level, mid-level player that you are saying
[3:23] Speaker 3: will be dead money.
[3:25] Speaker 2: And we think.
[3:25] Speaker 3: That will be the best course of action to keep
[3:29] Speaker 3: Giannis Antetokounmpo. And Miles Turner is only replacing Brooke Lopez.
[3:35] Speaker 3: He's not adding on to what they've had over the
[3:38] Speaker 3: past couple of years. He's just a younger version of
[3:42] Speaker 3: everything that Brooke Lopez is. Stretch the floor, defend in space, rebound,
[3:46] Speaker 3: block shots.
[3:48] Speaker 2: He's just younger. That's all.
[3:49] Speaker 3: And by younger, I mean he graduated or he left
[3:51] Speaker 3: college in 2016.
[3:54] Speaker 2: Like, this ain't no young dude, Bo. Like, he's 30
[3:56] Speaker 2: years old.
[3:57] Speaker 3: But this is where the Milwaukee Bucks are at, this
[4:01] Speaker 3: level of desperation to the point that the only move left,
[4:05] Speaker 3: keeping in mind that they don't even have a point guard, Bo.
[4:07] Speaker 3: What are they going to do? Go get Chris Paul,
[4:09] Speaker 3: Vincent Danwitty, Russell Westbrook? Like, they don't have a point guard.
[4:12] Speaker 3: But the only move left, the only card left to
[4:15] Speaker 3: play is to throw the big joker on the table
[4:18] Speaker 3: and say, hey, y'all, this is all we got. Y'all
[4:20] Speaker 3: know what you want to do. That's all they have left.
[4:24] Speaker 1: To be fair, Miles Turner is much younger than Brook Lopez.
[4:29] Speaker 2: That's a good point.
[4:31] Speaker 1: Well, you are correct. I agree with you 100% that
[4:34] Speaker 1: it is another version of the same thing, right? And
[4:39] Speaker 1: I think I would argue– The evolution of Brook Lopez
[4:42] Speaker 1: in his career and what his skills are has been
[4:45] Speaker 1: fascinating because there was a point where he was a
[4:46] Speaker 1: seven rebound a game guy at his size, which is crazy.
[4:50] Speaker 2: We have four different versions of Brook Lopez. Four.
[4:54] Speaker 1: Incredible, right? There are a handful of guys who are
[4:59] Speaker 1: active and are the all-time leading scorer of a franchise
[5:05] Speaker 1: in the NBA, right? LeBron James is. Damian Lillard is.
[5:11] Speaker 1: Who's the other one I was just thinking about? Russell Westbrook.
[5:14] Speaker 1: He is. If he gave me a little more time,
[5:17] Speaker 1: I could probably stop. Oh, I said LeBron James. If
[5:19] Speaker 1: he gave me a little time, I could cook up
[5:20] Speaker 1: some more, right? I think Steph Curry now is the
[5:22] Speaker 1: Warriors guy, right?
[5:24] Speaker 2: Yes, yes.
[5:25] Speaker 1: And one of those people is Brook Lopez.
[5:29] Speaker 2: For the Brooklyn Nets.
[5:30] Speaker 1: Brook Lopez, he's the all-time leading scorer in the history
[5:34] Speaker 1: of the mostly New Jersey Nets. He did a lot
[5:37] Speaker 1: of New Jersey. No, he was Brooklyn. But either way.
[5:39] Speaker 1: Fun fact about Brooke Lopez. I say this, though. If
[5:43] Speaker 1: you're Milwaukee, future, what future? We got no chance if
[5:47] Speaker 1: we're burning 50 a year for two years, right? They
[5:50] Speaker 1: are betting on cap increases that will certainly occur that
[5:54] Speaker 1: will smooth this out just a little bit. But I
[5:56] Speaker 1: also think they're looking at this one. I don't think
[6:00] Speaker 1: they think that Giannis is leaving. And at this point,
[6:03] Speaker 1: I don't think. Giannis is going to want to leave.
[6:07] Speaker 1: And I got a couple of reasons behind that. Number one,
[6:11] Speaker 1: I remember once I was in a negotiation with a
[6:15] Speaker 1: place and had a pretty strong push from another place
[6:21] Speaker 1: to get me. But I didn't want to do that. Right.
[6:25] Speaker 1: And I remember telling the first place, hey, don't make
[6:29] Speaker 1: me do this. Like, I'm telling you right here, this
[6:33] Speaker 1: is what I want it to be, but if you
[6:35] Speaker 1: make me do it, I mean, of course, they damn
[6:37] Speaker 1: near did, but I'm like, don't make me do this, okay?
[6:43] Speaker 1: That's where I feel like Giannis has been with Milwaukee, right? Like, look, man,
[6:47] Speaker 1: I really, really, really want to do this, okay? Don't
[6:49] Speaker 1: make it to where, don't make me look stupid, right?
[6:52] Speaker 1: Don't make me feel foolish for being loyal to what's
[6:56] Speaker 1: going on here, right? Like, that seems to be the
[6:58] Speaker 1: way that he's going about this, but I think that
[7:02] Speaker 1: this CBA, and I'm curious your thoughts about this. While
[7:07] Speaker 1: we look at all the things that I think are
[7:09] Speaker 1: ultimately negative about this CBA, and the biggest thing that
[7:11] Speaker 1: I hate about it is they're basically rewarding incompetence, or
[7:14] Speaker 1: at the very least, they are penalizing competence, right? Like
[7:17] Speaker 1: they came up with this salary cap way back when,
[7:19] Speaker 1: and then they had to put the Larry Bird provisions
[7:21] Speaker 1: in because they realized, oh shit, we're making it where
[7:25] Speaker 1: the Boston Celtics can't keep Larry Bird. That's a terrible idea, right?
[7:29] Speaker 1: Like just as a principle. That's a terrible idea. And
[7:31] Speaker 1: so they did all these things with the cap to
[7:33] Speaker 1: try to make it such that you can keep your
[7:35] Speaker 1: own team together without just going and poaching players from
[7:38] Speaker 1: other teams. That seemed to be what the provision was.
[7:41] Speaker 1: Then it reached a place where they were like, yo, man,
[7:43] Speaker 1: now we can't get these guys to stay anymore because
[7:45] Speaker 1: they decided they wanted to put the max salary provision
[7:47] Speaker 1: in there. And that made it such that the difference
[7:49] Speaker 1: between the max and what you get in these other
[7:51] Speaker 1: places by and large was not that high. Then they
[7:54] Speaker 1: kept doing more.
[7:55] Speaker 3: Right.
[7:55] Speaker 1: They added the idea of the Supermax, for example, so
[7:58] Speaker 1: that now they make it even more, make it easier
[8:01] Speaker 1: for the teams to keep the guys. But that still
[8:04] Speaker 1: wasn't really working that well in order to keep guys.
[8:08] Speaker 1: Now they set these aprons up. Right. And aside from
[8:12] Speaker 1: the fact that the aprons, you know, have these punitive
[8:15] Speaker 1: tax penalties when you go over the second apron and
[8:17] Speaker 1: everything else that comes with it. What it really does
[8:19] Speaker 1: that I think is most interesting and quite honestly problematic
[8:22] Speaker 1: is that once teams get into these second aprons, it's
[8:25] Speaker 1: what you can't do to improve your team. It's the
[8:28] Speaker 1: trades and acquisitions that you can't make in order to
[8:32] Speaker 1: get your team just a little bit better. So once
[8:34] Speaker 1: you decide to go into second apron, hard cap is
[8:37] Speaker 1: basically where we are, except it's not even just a
[8:39] Speaker 1: hard cap. you can't maneuver, right? So it's one thing
[8:43] Speaker 1: to be like, yo, you can't go add more players
[8:45] Speaker 1: because then it's too much. But now we can't even
[8:47] Speaker 1: make little moves. I say all that to say this.
[8:51] Speaker 1: If you're Giannis, if a team makes a move to
[8:55] Speaker 1: get you, How unlikely or how likely is it that
[8:58] Speaker 1: you're going to be right back in the same situation
[9:00] Speaker 1: in 18 to 24 months looking around like what y'all got,
[9:04] Speaker 1: what y'all going to be able to do for me.
[9:07] Speaker 1: And now we're going to be doing this same exact
[9:09] Speaker 1: thing over and over again. So to me, it feels
[9:11] Speaker 1: like the owners have finally gotten what they wanted to
[9:15] Speaker 1: me at the expense of everything else. But they finally
[9:18] Speaker 1: got what they wanted. We're going to make these dudes stay.
[9:21] Speaker 1: These guys that we think sell all the tickets, we're
[9:25] Speaker 1: going to make it really hard for them to leave.
[9:28] Speaker 2: Well, it's funny.
[9:29] Speaker 3: You said penalizing competence. I think they're penalizing excellence, right?
[9:33] Speaker 3: And now players, it's going to be so much more important,
[9:37] Speaker 3: because I'm going to get to a point. It's going
[9:38] Speaker 3: to be so much more important, to your last point,
[9:40] Speaker 3: about where players are drafted now. Because before it would
[9:43] Speaker 3: be you could spend seven years somewhere, and then once
[9:46] Speaker 3: you get into a certain place where you could get 25%
[9:49] Speaker 3: of the cap, Then you go somewhere, sign a shorter deal,
[9:53] Speaker 3: then sign a longer deal, and you're in the place
[9:55] Speaker 3: that you want to be. That no longer exists. And folks,
[9:58] Speaker 3: let us appreciate Bomani having his Samuel L. Jackson and
[10:02] Speaker 3: Jungle Fever moment where he says... Don't make me beat
[10:06] Speaker 3: somebody over the head.
[10:07] Speaker 2: I'll do it.
[10:08] Speaker 1: I'll do it. That's all I'm saying. I'll do it.
[10:12] Speaker 1: I'll do it. That was very much. I've been there
[10:15] Speaker 1: a couple times. One time it worked out the way
[10:18] Speaker 1: it wanted. One time it was just like, all right, cool.
[10:20] Speaker 1: You know, we'll do this.
[10:21] Speaker 2: Cool.
[10:22] Speaker 1: You got it.
[10:24] Speaker 2: All right, man. Wesley Snipes. All right, man. Here, here.
[10:26] Speaker 2: Just don't make me beat somebody over the head.
[10:28] Speaker 1: No.
[10:29] Speaker 3: But I think the CBA, amongst other things, has landlocked
[10:36] Speaker 3: players into deciding either you want the money that you
[10:40] Speaker 3: are going to be underpaid for anyway, right?
[10:44] Speaker 2: LeBron, underpaid. Giannis, underpaid.
[10:46] Speaker 3: Like the top of the top level guys, they know
[10:49] Speaker 3: how much they're worth to their franchises, so they can't
[10:52] Speaker 3: take a penny less. The union has set it up
[10:54] Speaker 3: so that if Giannis takes less, then that sets the
[10:57] Speaker 3: precedent for every other superstar coming.
[11:00] Speaker 2: Down the pike. LeBron has to take the Max.
[11:03] Speaker 3: He absolutely cannot afford for the future help of the
[11:06] Speaker 3: league and the players in the league not take a
[11:10] Speaker 3: dollar less at this stage because of all the discounts
[11:14] Speaker 3: or because of the discount he took in Miami. Well,
[11:17] Speaker 3: I think I think his first year he was getting
[11:18] Speaker 3: 13 million dollars. Oh, that is mid-level exception money now.
[11:25] Speaker 1: Yo, and that's the reason why he ain't taking a
[11:27] Speaker 1: dime less ever again. I tell you, he did it
[11:29] Speaker 1: once and y'all ain't give him no credit for it.
[11:32] Speaker 2: Not never.
[11:33] Speaker 3: So with Giannis, and I'm with you on the point
[11:36] Speaker 3: that not only it makes players stay and you wind
[11:39] Speaker 3: up being in the exact same situation.
[11:41] Speaker 2: For me, it's twofold.
[11:43] Speaker 3: If I'm a rival team and I'm looking at the
[11:46] Speaker 3: NBA moving so much faster, like we never would have
[11:49] Speaker 3: thought Luka Doncic would have gotten traded. We don't know
[11:52] Speaker 3: how many times we thought Kevin Durant would be traded,
[11:54] Speaker 3: like all the machinations and things that have changed over
[11:57] Speaker 3: the NBA just in the last 24 months, right? I'm
[12:03] Speaker 3: still operating under the guise that maybe this don't work,
[12:06] Speaker 3: and I'm going to keep my powder dry, and I'm
[12:09] Speaker 3: going to hold my war chest just in case Giannis says,
[12:12] Speaker 3: you know what, I've had enough. That's why if I'm
[12:14] Speaker 3: the Houston Rockets, yeah, I will give you but so much,
[12:18] Speaker 3: Phoenix Suns, Kevin Durant. But I'm keeping my Jabari Smiths.
[12:23] Speaker 3: I'm keeping my Cam Whitmores. I'm keeping Reed Shepard. I'm
[12:27] Speaker 3: keeping a man Thompson who was never going anywhere, anywhere, anyway.
[12:30] Speaker 3: I'm keeping all of my young players just in case
[12:35] Speaker 3: Giannis decides I've had enough. Because you can go from
[12:38] Speaker 3: saying I'm a Milwaukee Buck for life to saying, man,
[12:42] Speaker 3: in a week Eastern conference, we couldn't get it done
[12:45] Speaker 3: in 2026 to saying.
[12:47] Speaker 2: Get me up out of here.
[12:49] Speaker 3: If I'm Giannis, and there is no clear-cut place besides Houston,
[12:53] Speaker 3: I'm saying let's play this out for at least a
[12:56] Speaker 3: year because then he has one more year left after
[13:00] Speaker 3: next year, and then he goes into an option year.
[13:02] Speaker 3: Not saying that because nobody goes into free agency anymore, right?
[13:05] Speaker 3: The Stars don't go into free agency anymore. You get traded,
[13:09] Speaker 3: and you get your extension. That's how it goes. But
[13:11] Speaker 3: if I'm honest, I'm playing this out for at least
[13:13] Speaker 3: one year so that all these other teams that maybe
[13:16] Speaker 3: want to make a run for me They get your
[13:18] Speaker 3: draft picks in order, you get your house in order,
[13:20] Speaker 3: and then you go from there.
[13:21] Speaker 1: All right, but let me throw something else out here.
[13:24] Speaker 1: And I feel bad for Giannis because I can often
[13:28] Speaker 1: feel like this in my own life, and it doesn't
[13:31] Speaker 1: feel good. But if I'm Milwaukee, say Giannis come upstairs
[13:37] Speaker 1: and say, I want a trade. Duly noted. We're going
[13:41] Speaker 1: to work on finding you a trade. You telling me
[13:44] Speaker 1: Giannis ain't going to come out here and play hard, bro? Oh,
[13:49] Speaker 1: it's just what he does. It's what he does. It's
[13:52] Speaker 1: what he does. It's what he does. Like, this is not...
[13:55] Speaker 1: James Harden says he wants to trade. You need to
[13:57] Speaker 1: go trade James Harden right now.
[14:00] Speaker 2: Okay?
[14:01] Speaker 1: Before somebody got to whoop his ass in the locker room.
[14:04] Speaker 1: You need to go trade James Harden, right? Because that's
[14:06] Speaker 1: in Houston. That's what it almost came down to. Look,
[14:10] Speaker 1: it was a bunch of new. What was it? DeMarcus Cousins?
[14:13] Speaker 1: John Wall. John Wall. PJ Tucker was on that team.
[14:17] Speaker 1: Like James Harden. Hey, brother, myself first. And I believe
[14:21] Speaker 1: the word that I saw used by at least one
[14:24] Speaker 1: of them was disrespect. They felt as though James Harden
[14:28] Speaker 1: was behaving in a disrespectful manner.
[14:33] Speaker 3: And this is post-Achilles boogie.
[14:36] Speaker 1: It's great.
[14:37] Speaker 2: He had zero of the Fs to give.
[14:40] Speaker 1: No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, man. No, man.
[14:44] Speaker 1: And they had to get James Harden out of there.
[14:46] Speaker 1: But Giannis, Giannis is going to show up. Look, remember
[14:48] Speaker 1: when Kevin Durant asked for a trade from the Nets
[14:50] Speaker 1: and they was like, yeah, gotcha. Okay. That's nice. Kevin Durant,
[15:00] Speaker 1: they treated that Kevin Durant trade proposal like it is
[15:02] Speaker 1: with Trump when they bring him to daily briefing. He's like, ah, cool.
[15:07] Speaker 1: Toss that bitch over his shoulder like nothing ain't even happened. Like,
[15:11] Speaker 1: what I need to know with that? What I need
[15:12] Speaker 1: that for? Are you going to be kidding me? Right?
[15:15] Speaker 1: And so I think in part, that's kind of where
[15:17] Speaker 1: if I'm the... Because here's... If I'm the Bucks and
[15:19] Speaker 1: we've all talked about the Rockets and... I think if
[15:23] Speaker 1: you are a Milwaukee fan, you absolutely say, we have
[15:26] Speaker 1: to get Amin Thompson in such a trade. If you
[15:30] Speaker 1: are a Rockets fan, you're saying, we're not giving Amin
[15:33] Speaker 1: Thompson up in that trade. If I am Milwaukee, I
[15:35] Speaker 1: am very clear with Giannis. Look, if you want to
[15:37] Speaker 1: go to Houston, that's cool. But I'm telling you right now,
[15:40] Speaker 1: if they don't give us Thompson, we're not doing it. Right?
[15:44] Speaker 1: And for what it's worth, if I'm the Rockets, I'd
[15:47] Speaker 1: probably do it.
[15:49] Speaker 2: You have to. You hold your nose.
[15:51] Speaker 3: And you do it because if you're getting Giannis at age, okay,
[15:55] Speaker 3: Giannis is 30 now. He'll be 31 in December. And
[15:58] Speaker 3: you look at the years of excellence that Giannis has had,
[16:02] Speaker 3: these elite years. Let's just go back to, let's say 2018, right?
[16:06] Speaker 3: Let's say 2018 is the first year where Giannis has
[16:10] Speaker 3: turned into an absolute superhero. And then 2019 was his
[16:13] Speaker 3: first MVP. He's been a superhero for seven years at 6'11.
[16:18] Speaker 3: 240 pounds with the beating on his body. And let's
[16:23] Speaker 3: just say the lack of outside development from three-point shooting.
[16:28] Speaker 3: So his game is predicated on power and strength and
[16:32] Speaker 3: speed and all these things that diminish over time, unless
[16:36] Speaker 3: you are LeBron James by and large.
[16:40] Speaker 2: If you're going to acquire him, you can only play
[16:42] Speaker 2: for two years at a time.
[16:47] Speaker 1: Right.
[16:47] Speaker 3: You're going to get two rings out of it, but
[16:49] Speaker 3: you're going to play for those two years with him
[16:51] Speaker 3: and KD and you're going to be OK with it.
[16:54] Speaker 1: Right. So here's my question for you on that idea,
[16:59] Speaker 1: because I think you're correct about that. Right. All of
[17:02] Speaker 1: us are wild excited about Ahmed Thompson.
[17:05] Speaker 2: OK. Yes.
[17:06] Speaker 1: And I think you tell me if I'm wrong, he's
[17:08] Speaker 1: taller and he's more slender. But I think the comp
[17:11] Speaker 1: that we're really looking at is Kawhi Leonard. right? That
[17:15] Speaker 1: to me is like a guy that has the potential
[17:16] Speaker 1: to be the best perimeter defender in the NBA can
[17:20] Speaker 1: go and get his own shot. He's slender, but he's strong, right?
[17:24] Speaker 1: I feel like he's got a kind of no-must, no-fuss
[17:26] Speaker 1: offensive game that is similar to that. The thing is,
[17:29] Speaker 1: Kawhi Leonard turned himself into an excellent three-point shooter, and
[17:33] Speaker 1: Ahmed Thompson, as it stands right now, is a mediocre
[17:36] Speaker 1: to bad three-point shooter. I bring all that up to say,
[17:40] Speaker 1: I think that we're operating on an assumption of how
[17:42] Speaker 1: good Thompson is going to be. That is actually a
[17:45] Speaker 1: touch optimistic, especially considering he's 22. Right. This is not
[17:48] Speaker 1: a guy who is like, you know, came into the
[17:50] Speaker 1: league at 18. Right. I it's a big risk if
[17:54] Speaker 1: you're the Rockets. But if you decide you're playing the
[17:57] Speaker 1: honest game, then I think this is a dude you trade.
[18:01] Speaker 1: You can't have this with so many ways. But then
[18:03] Speaker 1: the problem, Vinny, is that Ahmed Thompson does not make
[18:05] Speaker 1: a lot of money right now. And so if you
[18:07] Speaker 1: do make this trade and you have Giannis, you have
[18:09] Speaker 1: Giannis and Kevin Durant. Kevin Durant, who's going to want
[18:11] Speaker 1: some more money after this. So then what do you do?
[18:16] Speaker 3: So, Bo, I think there's something to that, right? I
[18:19] Speaker 3: think the comp for all of these hypothetical deals is
[18:22] Speaker 3: a Sam Presti combo deal, right?
[18:24] Speaker 2: Where we get Shea Gildas Alexander.
[18:27] Speaker 3: You get Paul George, and we get every single draft
[18:30] Speaker 3: pick known to mankind. Let me ask you this, and
[18:33] Speaker 3: not to change the subject, but let me just ask
[18:35] Speaker 3: you as far as worth of a trade.
[18:37] Speaker 2: If the L.A.
[18:38] Speaker 3: Clippers win a championship, do we think of that deal
[18:42] Speaker 3: as so lopsided? If they win one championship, even if
[18:46] Speaker 3: they win the goddamn bubble championship in 2020, do we think.
[18:50] Speaker 2: That the L.A.
[18:51] Speaker 3: Clippers get fleeced by Sam Presti and the Oklahoma City Thunder?
[18:55] Speaker 3: Is that trade worth his weight in gold for one championship?
[19:00] Speaker 1: So that is an interesting question because it raises this.
[19:04] Speaker 1: What is a championship worth depending upon the franchise, right?
[19:10] Speaker 1: For example, the one championship that LeBron won for the
[19:13] Speaker 1: Cavs means way more than the one championship that LeBron
[19:17] Speaker 1: won for the Lakers. They are not the same, right?
[19:21] Speaker 1: To me, if the Clippers, The Clippers had won a championship.
[19:32] Speaker 1: Everything that you could ever imagine is worth it. I
[19:35] Speaker 1: actually make the argument that for the Clippers, that trade
[19:39] Speaker 1: was not nearly as lopsided as advertised. They had some
[19:42] Speaker 1: horrible luck. And some of it, I mean, it's just
[19:45] Speaker 1: what Kawhi Leonard's body was. They had some injury issues
[19:47] Speaker 1: with Paul George also.
[19:49] Speaker 2: But.
[19:50] Speaker 1: I don't think that we can be so short-sighted in
[19:53] Speaker 1: our memories to lose sight of the fact that That
[19:57] Speaker 1: trade completed what started with the Chris Paul trade in
[20:01] Speaker 1: the fall of 2011 and completely legitimized this franchise to
[20:05] Speaker 1: the point where they could have their own arena and
[20:07] Speaker 1: everything that came with it. You know what I mean?
[20:10] Speaker 1: And the Clippers, by the way, are not a bad team.
[20:12] Speaker 1: They were still in a position to make some moves
[20:15] Speaker 1: and do some things and make some stuff happen. Kawhi
[20:19] Speaker 1: Leonard was more tattered than they had understood. But if
[20:23] Speaker 1: they had won that championship, yep, you make that trade.
[20:26] Speaker 1: Every single time. It is a no-brainer. The question is,
[20:31] Speaker 1: how much is one ring worth it to the Houston Rockets?
[20:35] Speaker 2: And I was going to say that.
[20:36] Speaker 3: I was going to say that because Houston has a
[20:37] Speaker 3: championship lineage. Houston has won championships. They have gone to
[20:42] Speaker 3: the NBA. They went to the NBA Finals twice in
[20:43] Speaker 3: the 80s, twice in the 90s, been a contender over
[20:47] Speaker 3: the Daryl Morey, James Harden years.
[20:49] Speaker 2: They aren't the little engine that could. And they are
[20:52] Speaker 2: the team.
[20:53] Speaker 3: Or the franchise that you made this point before. They
[20:56] Speaker 3: are very welcoming to stars. When you look at their
[20:59] Speaker 3: all-time list, you're like, man, okay, yeah, you drafted a king.
[21:03] Speaker 3: You traded for Clyde. You traded for Charles. You traded
[21:05] Speaker 3: for Chris Paul. You traded for James Harden. You traded,
[21:08] Speaker 3: you know, Moses Malone, even going back to those guys. Like,
[21:10] Speaker 3: you wind up having.
[21:17] Speaker 2: You know?
[21:18] Speaker 1: And keep in mind, when they drafted Ralph Sampson and
[21:20] Speaker 1: Elijah Ward, what that meant in both cases.
[21:22] Speaker 2: Yes. And duplication. Who cares? You're going to the NBA finals.
[21:26] Speaker 2: That's what that meant. That legit. I mean, let's.
[21:29] Speaker 3: Appreciate the fact that Hakeem Olajuwon in year two put out,
[21:35] Speaker 3: put out arguably the greatest center of the modern era
[21:38] Speaker 3: in Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and and then basically gave the works to.
[21:46] Speaker 3: the greatest front line we've ever seen in Larry Bird,
[21:48] Speaker 3: Kevin McHale, Robert Parrish, right in year two.
[21:52] Speaker 2: That was Akeem Abdul Olajuwon.
[21:55] Speaker 1: Not Akeem.
[21:56] Speaker 2: That's correct.
[21:57] Speaker 1: Can I make my quick point about Akeem starting with A, Olajuwon,
[22:00] Speaker 1: that everyone needs to remember, and it is the greatest
[22:02] Speaker 1: compliment that anybody could ever make? I grew up in Houston.
[22:06] Speaker 1: Never once heard nobody say we could have had Jordan.
[22:11] Speaker 2: That's the win.
[22:12] Speaker 1: How crazy that is. And by the way, baby, I
[22:17] Speaker 1: don't know anybody who had the majority of his prime
[22:22] Speaker 1: completely wasted by the front office. You can blame it
[22:26] Speaker 1: on the dope.
[22:27] Speaker 3: Right.
[22:27] Speaker 1: But the dope was Mitch Wiggins and Lou Lloyd. This
[22:30] Speaker 1: is like the, the, the dope was not, the dope
[22:33] Speaker 1: did not take out Ralph Sampson. Everything else got Ralph Sampson,
[22:36] Speaker 1: but the dope did not take out Ralph Sampson. It
[22:37] Speaker 1: was Elijah Watt and his lonesome out there. And he
[22:41] Speaker 1: won a ring with it. And by the way, Elijah
[22:43] Speaker 1: Watt told the Rockets, I want to trade. And Charlie Thomas,
[22:48] Speaker 1: the dead owner told him, you call me whatever you want,
[22:51] Speaker 1: but I got tickets to sell. And all Elijah Watt
[22:54] Speaker 1: did was say, okay. And then two years later, won
[22:56] Speaker 1: a championship. And then the next year won another.
[22:59] Speaker 3: Look, The fact that he went to them and said,
[23:02] Speaker 3: I want to trade. That's like me saying, I want
[23:04] Speaker 3: to date with Kelly Rowland. You know what we're going
[23:06] Speaker 3: to do?
[23:07] Speaker 2: Laugh.
[23:10] Speaker 1: He said they wanted to trade after they accused him
[23:12] Speaker 1: of faking an injury. It was terrible. And they were like, nope.
[23:17] Speaker 1: Everybody's just going to have to get over it.
[23:20] Speaker 3: And you know what we're going to give you? We're
[23:23] Speaker 3: going to give you Otis Thorpe, Sam Cassell, Kenny Smith,
[23:29] Speaker 3: And Vernon Maxwell, go make it happen.
[23:33] Speaker 2: Make it enough. And he made it enough. And he
[23:36] Speaker 2: put out in consecutive years.
[23:38] Speaker 1: Hold on. We would have got you Robert Ory, but
[23:42] Speaker 1: then that wasn't actually going so good. So we decided
[23:45] Speaker 1: to trade him to get you Sean Elliott, except he
[23:50] Speaker 1: needed a new kidney. We just didn't know it at
[23:52] Speaker 1: the time. And so they sent Robert Ory back. Can
[23:55] Speaker 1: you imagine? I mean, these sorts of things have happened before, right?
[23:59] Speaker 1: But I don't know what it would have been like
[24:01] Speaker 1: in this day and age, the Robert Ory for Sean
[24:03] Speaker 1: Elliott trade. It was Robert Ory and Matt Bullard for
[24:07] Speaker 1: Sean Elliott. Sean Elliott failed his physical. It was years
[24:10] Speaker 1: before the kidney got replaced, but he failed his physical.
[24:14] Speaker 1: And Matt Bullard now does TV for the Rockets, and
[24:16] Speaker 1: Robert Ory became Big Shot Bob in the 95.5s.
[24:20] Speaker 2: Think about it like this.
[24:22] Speaker 3: In a two-year span, the San Antonio Spurs said, we're
[24:26] Speaker 3: going to trade Sean Elliott for Dennis Rodman. And then
[24:30] Speaker 3: they traded for Sean Elliott again and got him back
[24:33] Speaker 3: for the Lolo. For the Lolo. And then they decided
[24:36] Speaker 3: to take that gift horse in the mouth and say,
[24:38] Speaker 3: you know what, Dennis Rodman? You're a little too crazy
[24:41] Speaker 3: for us. We're going to trade you for Will Purdue.
[24:43] Speaker 1: Gave him away. They were like, just whatever you got.
[24:48] Speaker 2: Just, just. You want him. You want him.
[24:52] Speaker 3: Just name something. Name a price and we're going to
[24:56] Speaker 3: say yes. I mean, I don't have a lot.
[24:59] Speaker 2: Name a price. I promise you, I don't have a lot.
[25:03] Speaker 2: Name a price. Okay, man.
[25:05] Speaker 1: Okay.
[25:06] Speaker 2: I'm serious. Will Purdue. Sold!
[25:08] Speaker 1: Sold! Sold! They would have took Will Purdue. They would
[25:11] Speaker 1: have took Ed Neely. They would have took Bobby Hanson.
[25:15] Speaker 1: They would have took John Paxson. They would have took
[25:18] Speaker 1: Bill Winnington. What other white boys am I forgetting that
[25:21] Speaker 1: the Bulls had? Because Phil Jackson loved to keep a couple.
[25:25] Speaker 2: Jack Haley. They kept Jack Haley. They had to keep
[25:29] Speaker 2: Jack Haley for Rodman.
[25:31] Speaker 1: For Dennis Rodman. That is correct.
[25:33] Speaker 2: God bless his soul. God bless his soul. Sorry, Jack Haley.
[25:37] Speaker 3: But to your point, circling back about the man Thompson,
[25:41] Speaker 3: the question I have is, Why does he need to
[25:44] Speaker 3: be a three point shooter to be even an elite
[25:47] Speaker 3: offensive player?
[25:49] Speaker 1: I think he needs to be a better than 28
[25:53] Speaker 1: percent three point shooter.
[25:55] Speaker 3: Right.
[25:56] Speaker 1: I don't need him to be I don't need him
[25:57] Speaker 1: to shoot like Brad Beal. Right. But 28, we can
[26:02] Speaker 1: leave you alone. That is what you can't have. And
[26:06] Speaker 1: that is the point that he's at now. Now, of course,
[26:09] Speaker 1: with Durant now, they'll be able to spread the floor
[26:12] Speaker 1: a little better and that'll make him a bit more dangerous.
[26:15] Speaker 1: But the reason to keep Ahmed Thompson is not what
[26:18] Speaker 1: he can do for you right now. It's the idea
[26:20] Speaker 1: and thought that you have a real live frontline franchise
[26:23] Speaker 1: player for many years. And he's a guy that all
[26:25] Speaker 1: the guys who play basketball, they see it. They immediately
[26:28] Speaker 1: see it with him. I'm probably going to get Giannis, right? Like,
[26:32] Speaker 1: It's in the same situation as the Clippers. We're going
[26:34] Speaker 1: to get Kawhi Leonard and Paul George. Okay, but you
[26:37] Speaker 1: got to give us Shea. All right, we'll see what happens.
[26:41] Speaker 3: Now, here's the question I have for you. This is
[26:43] Speaker 3: a general philosophical question that I ask NBA executives and coaches.
[26:50] Speaker 3: Can you build a team beyond a two-year window? Like,
[26:54] Speaker 3: can you look beyond two years in today's NBA? Because
[26:58] Speaker 3: the game moves so damn fast. fast, all the things
[27:02] Speaker 3: we thought existed two years ago, just a short two
[27:05] Speaker 3: years ago after Denver won their NBA championship. Oh, they're
[27:09] Speaker 3: going to be here for a while, right? And we're
[27:12] Speaker 3: going to talk about them. We'll be like, oh, they're
[27:13] Speaker 3: going to be here for a while. No, we're not
[27:16] Speaker 3: really sure. So I think because of free agency and
[27:19] Speaker 3: everything that happens in trade markets and Achilles injuries and
[27:22] Speaker 3: all the other type of stuff, you can't plan beyond
[27:25] Speaker 3: two years in today's NBA. I don't think that's a
[27:29] Speaker 3: good thing. I think some people laugh and think, oh,
[27:30] Speaker 3: it's more like the NFL. I think it's too seismic.
[27:34] Speaker 3: There's not enough connective tissue for fans to build upon,
[27:38] Speaker 3: for the media to build upon, for your own storylines.
[27:41] Speaker 3: If it's too much change, too much like violent change,
[27:45] Speaker 3: but that's the way that the NBA is now.
[27:47] Speaker 2: I don't think you can build beyond two or three years.
[27:50] Speaker 1: These owners wanted the NFL, and this is what they've gotten,
[27:53] Speaker 1: and we're going to see whether that's something anybody actually wants.
[27:57] Speaker 1: But coming up next, we are going to get to
[27:59] Speaker 1: talking about the Denver Nuggets, but we're also going to
[28:01] Speaker 1: talk about what is, or more specifically, is not going
[28:04] Speaker 1: on with the Los Angeles Lakers. Let me tell you
[28:08] Speaker 1: about Z-Biotics pre-alcohol probiotic. Z-Biotics pre-alcohol probiotic drink is the
[28:13] Speaker 1: world's first genetically engineered probiotic. It was invented by PhD
[28:18] Speaker 1: scientists to tackle rough mornings after drinking. Here's how it works.
[28:22] Speaker 1: When you drink, alcohol gets converted into a toxic byproduct
[28:26] Speaker 1: in the gut. It's a buildup of this byproduct, not dehydration,
[28:30] Speaker 1: that's to blame for rough days after drinking. Pre-alcohol produces
[28:34] Speaker 1: an enzyme to break this byproduct down. Just remember to
[28:37] Speaker 1: make pre-alcohol your first drink of the night, drink responsibly,
[28:41] Speaker 1: and you'll feel your best tomorrow. Summer is here, which
[28:44] Speaker 1: means more opportunities to celebrate the warm weather. Before that
[28:48] Speaker 1: backyard barbecue brew, glass of Pinot watching the sunset at
[28:51] Speaker 1: the beach, or cocktail by the campfire, don't forget your
[28:55] Speaker 1: Z Biotic pre-alcohol. Drink one before drinking and wake up
[28:59] Speaker 1: feeling great and ready to take on the next day
[29:01] Speaker 1: and all that summer has to offer. Go to zbiotics.com

[29:29] Speaker 1: with vinnie goodwill um i went over it on the
[29:32] Speaker 1: show on monday the lebron james soap opera of sorts
[29:36] Speaker 1: and again i get it from where lebron's coming from
[29:39] Speaker 1: right like lebron thing is you got to put the
[29:41] Speaker 1: screws to these cats every year to get it done.
[29:45] Speaker 1: But I think, again, the new CBA doesn't really make
[29:48] Speaker 1: it possible. To make moves in the way that he
[29:51] Speaker 1: is talking about and be sustainable on it. Now, of course,
[29:53] Speaker 1: if you only got one or two years left, you
[29:55] Speaker 1: like fuck a future dog. Like y'all need to go
[29:57] Speaker 1: ahead and make this happen. There are all the things
[29:59] Speaker 1: that come with it. But I just want to ask
[30:00] Speaker 1: you about this one thing.
[30:02] Speaker 2: OK.
[30:05] Speaker 1: The Lakers need a center. We have known that they
[30:07] Speaker 1: needed a center since. The middle of last season, when
[30:12] Speaker 1: they made the trade for Mark Williams, and then they
[30:14] Speaker 1: said he failed his physical, but Mark Williams just got
[30:17] Speaker 1: traded to somebody else who apparently thinks he going to
[30:20] Speaker 1: be all right. That is its own story for another day.
[30:24] Speaker 1: I saw Lakers fans hoping that the Lakers would get
[30:29] Speaker 1: DeAndre Ayton.
[30:31] Speaker 2: Okay. I.
[30:34] Speaker 1: was a DeAndre Ayton defender for a while, or a
[30:38] Speaker 1: defender of him in the sense that I did not
[30:41] Speaker 1: think I think that when you make a draft pick,
[30:44] Speaker 1: your hope is to get a good player, and you
[30:46] Speaker 1: can't get so caught up in whether or not somebody
[30:48] Speaker 1: else got a better player. And I thought that Phoenix
[30:51] Speaker 1: got a good player when they had them, and I
[30:53] Speaker 1: would note that Phoenix made it to the NBA Finals
[30:55] Speaker 1: before Dallas did, right? I don't know if they wind
[30:58] Speaker 1: up with Chris Paul and all the other stuff, if
[31:00] Speaker 1: they get Luka. There's all kinds of things that are there,
[31:03] Speaker 1: and I don't think Luka had any interest in going
[31:05] Speaker 1: to play for Phoenix, even if their coach was his
[31:07] Speaker 1: Slovenian home, right? All of that stuff. However... In 2022, which, wow,
[31:16] Speaker 1: long time ago now. When DeAndre did not go into
[31:19] Speaker 1: the second half of game seven against Dallas. Flat out
[31:22] Speaker 1: did not go. That was losership right there. And from
[31:28] Speaker 1: what we are hearing out of Portland, where he missed
[31:31] Speaker 1: a game because the roads was frozen. And look, baby,
[31:33] Speaker 1: I know you from the Bahamas, but come on now.
[31:38] Speaker 2: They sent somebody to get him and he was like, no,
[31:41] Speaker 2: I'm straight.
[31:45] Speaker 1: I cannot believe that you would be trying to win
[31:50] Speaker 1: a championship and think that bringing this guy is a
[31:55] Speaker 1: good idea. Like, the only reason you do that if
[31:57] Speaker 1: you're the Lakers is if you try to make LeBron quit.
[31:59] Speaker 1: Can you imagine? Like, what? LeBron, like, look, only person
[32:04] Speaker 1: that gonna be late all the time is me.
[32:08] Speaker 3: It is... Okay, I'm going to start back to what
[32:12] Speaker 3: I saw when I saw DeAndre Ayton. I saw a
[32:15] Speaker 3: big man with decent feet, a good touch, and a
[32:19] Speaker 3: decent enough rebounder.
[32:21] Speaker 2: You know what I saw? I saw Patrick Ewing, right?
[32:25] Speaker 3: I remember seeing, oh, Patrick Ewing, drop.
[32:28] Speaker 2: Step, fade away. I saw the skill set.
[32:31] Speaker 3: I didn't see the meanness. I saw a nice dude
[32:36] Speaker 3: to talk to, in a way. He's a good dude
[32:38] Speaker 3: to talk to. But I didn't see the mean. I
[32:40] Speaker 3: didn't see the nasty. And I'm like, man, I hope
[32:43] Speaker 3: he gets it somewhere along the way. And then it
[32:46] Speaker 3: doesn't happen. And then when Portland drafts someone to take
[32:50] Speaker 3: his job a year after they get him, he becomes
[32:54] Speaker 3: the kid's biggest mentor and cheerleader. yo, you sitting somebody
[32:58] Speaker 3: to take, you trying to take my spot, Flash? I'm
[33:01] Speaker 3: not going to encourage you to take my spot.
[33:05] Speaker 2: I'm going at your neck. Somehow.
[33:08] Speaker 1: They just bought him out.
[33:09] Speaker 3: They bought him out, which shows you how much they
[33:13] Speaker 3: want you to go. Like, whatever you've done, and remember,
[33:17] Speaker 3: Chauncey Billups is not one of these fire and brimstone
[33:21] Speaker 3: head coaches. He's a former player who is very sympathetic
[33:25] Speaker 3: to players. This is not one of these PJ Carlissimo
[33:29] Speaker 3: type dudes who don't have any, you know, lack of
[33:31] Speaker 3: a better phrase, like an understanding of today's player, like
[33:33] Speaker 3: Chauncey understands today's player. And he's like, nah, this ain't it.
[33:37] Speaker 3: So now you're going to send, listen to this part, bro.
[33:41] Speaker 3: You're going to send DeAndre Ayton, Not to LeBron James' team.
[33:45] Speaker 3: You're going to send DeAndre Ayton to J.J.
[33:47] Speaker 2: Redick's team?
[33:48] Speaker 3: Do you want that man to have a heart attack
[33:51] Speaker 3: on the sidelines?
[33:53] Speaker 2: Do you want to see.
[33:53] Speaker 3: That man's vein in his neck pop out during an
[33:59] Speaker 3: actual game? That's what y'all want to see? You want
[34:01] Speaker 3: to see Rob Pelinka?
[34:03] Speaker 2: Okay, cool. Go ahead. Entertainment.
[34:06] Speaker 1: Let me throw the other level on this. Forgive me
[34:09] Speaker 1: if I interrupted you. We got a little internet traffic
[34:12] Speaker 1: lag game, right? But I was gonna throw this out
[34:14] Speaker 1: here at you. We got the one year that you
[34:17] Speaker 1: could rest assured that you're going to get tip-top shape
[34:20] Speaker 1: Luka Doncic. And I say this because I watched Shaquille
[34:23] Speaker 1: O'Neal play basketball for 20 years, okay? Get a new coach,
[34:27] Speaker 1: make a move to a new team or whatever, you
[34:30] Speaker 1: gonna get it, all right? But people are who they are, okay?
[34:35] Speaker 1: Luka did not turn into a new person. If he
[34:37] Speaker 1: does not have that dedication and that vigilance about it,
[34:42] Speaker 1: then it's not naturally within him. I don't think you're
[34:45] Speaker 1: going to develop it in an off season because people
[34:48] Speaker 1: were picking on you. That's not it, right? And so
[34:51] Speaker 1: with Shaq, Shaq year 2000, for example, that MVP year,
[34:54] Speaker 1: we never saw Shaq like that before. We never saw
[34:57] Speaker 1: Shaq like that after. The next year, he was still
[34:59] Speaker 1: pretty good, but that's when we start. Isn't that when
[35:01] Speaker 1: we started getting into, I got hurt on company time,
[35:03] Speaker 1: so I heal on company time, right? Like that's when
[35:06] Speaker 1: we started.
[35:06] Speaker 2: Yeah, it's a year after that, but you're right. You're right.
[35:08] Speaker 3: We start trending in that area, but you're right.
[35:10] Speaker 1: Yeah. Because he is who he is. And I'm not
[35:14] Speaker 1: saying that, I'm not trying to say that it's an
[35:16] Speaker 1: insult necessarily, but I'm just saying that's his inclination. Kobe
[35:20] Speaker 1: Bryant was that from day one. LeBron James was that
[35:24] Speaker 1: from day one. Luka Doncic at 25 or 26 years old,
[35:29] Speaker 1: I don't think you're going to suddenly turn into that guy.
[35:31] Speaker 1: So you're going to get that guy this year. And
[35:34] Speaker 1: then you're going to bring in a dude who's been
[35:36] Speaker 1: acting like a loser for the last three, four years?
[35:39] Speaker 3: No, I look up a name. I will look up
[35:43] Speaker 3: a name. I will give you a name of a
[35:44] Speaker 3: player who may dispute that. May dispute that. I'm looking
[35:49] Speaker 3: up his age.
[35:52] Speaker 2: I will give you a.
[35:52] Speaker 3: Three-time MVP who got in the best shape of his
[35:55] Speaker 3: life at age 27 after they shipped away one of
[36:00] Speaker 3: his drinking buddies.
[36:03] Speaker 2: Okay.
[36:03] Speaker 1: Let me hit you with a counterpoint on that. Because
[36:06] Speaker 1: who you are talking about is Larry Joe Byrd. Right?
[36:12] Speaker 1: Larry Bird's problem could be fixed by trading his drinking buddy.
[36:19] Speaker 1: Luka Doncic is the drinking buddy. everybody mama swear the
[36:32] Speaker 1: other one is the problem right like they i put
[36:36] Speaker 1: it to you like this and for those of you
[36:37] Speaker 1: who don't know this story i want to say it
[36:40] Speaker 1: is in the year 1984 the uh celtics traded rick
[36:44] Speaker 1: robey to phoenix for dennis johnson And the big reason
[36:49] Speaker 1: was that Rick Robey was dragging Larry Bird down. And
[36:53] Speaker 1: so they got him out of there. They brought in
[36:54] Speaker 1: Dennis Johnson. Obviously, they want two more championships.
[36:57] Speaker 2: Right.
[36:58] Speaker 1: This is this is this is it. I totally get it.
[37:02] Speaker 1: Our problem with Luca has not been he spent too
[37:05] Speaker 1: much time hanging with nobody, right? We don't quite have
[37:10] Speaker 1: the answer to what that is. And I will just
[37:13] Speaker 1: also note that while it's not the same thing, Larry
[37:16] Speaker 1: Bird threw out his back running a jackhammer in his
[37:18] Speaker 1: own driveway, which implies not the greatest dedication to his
[37:23] Speaker 1: physical fitness for basketball.
[37:27] Speaker 2: Or just decision-making.
[37:27] Speaker 1: In a different way, right?
[37:29] Speaker 2: Not in an amazing way. Just decision-making. That's all. Just decision-making.
[37:32] Speaker 2: Not the smartest move. That's all.
[37:35] Speaker 1: You're not locked in enough on the task. Like, this
[37:39] Speaker 1: is not what it is. So maybe you're right, okay?
[37:43] Speaker 1: Maybe Luka can go and he can turn this thing
[37:46] Speaker 1: into whatever it is. I'm just saying the only one
[37:49] Speaker 1: we can be sure of is this one. This is
[37:54] Speaker 1: the chance. This is the opportunity. What we get with LeBron,
[37:57] Speaker 1: I have no idea what is going to happen. But
[38:01] Speaker 1: they do need a center. I would take old Al
[38:04] Speaker 1: Horford before I took DeAndre Ayton.
[38:09] Speaker 3: I mean, look, the question becomes, do you try to
[38:14] Speaker 3: fill all of your needs now? Or do you keep
[38:18] Speaker 3: a little powder dry, see what happens in the regular season,
[38:22] Speaker 3: and then see if you can get, I would say
[38:24] Speaker 3: see if you can get a Walker Kessler out of Utah,
[38:26] Speaker 3: but that means you got to deal with Danny Ainge. Nah,
[38:29] Speaker 3: let's just move on from there because Danny Ainge is
[38:31] Speaker 3: going to try to.
[38:32] Speaker 1: You're not going to win that trade. Nope.
[38:35] Speaker 2: Rob you for all that you got, right?
[38:38] Speaker 3: I'm a proponent of don't just go and chase bad
[38:41] Speaker 3: money just because you need to fill a position. I
[38:44] Speaker 3: am a proponent of you not coming in the training
[38:47] Speaker 3: camp with nobody there because especially on LeBron James' team,
[38:53] Speaker 3: If you have nobody there, what happens? LeBron James says,
[38:56] Speaker 3: all right, y'all, I'll do it. You can't have LeBron
[38:59] Speaker 3: doing that no more. He's not at the stage of
[39:01] Speaker 3: his career that you can do that. And the question
[39:04] Speaker 3: I have in general for LeBron and Luka Doncic, Bo,
[39:07] Speaker 3: is can you fulfill all the objectives for what Luka
[39:12] Speaker 3: Doncic needs and for what LeBron James needs all at
[39:16] Speaker 3: the same time? The only thing they both need in
[39:19] Speaker 3: conjunction is... athletic wings that can help defend because neither
[39:25] Speaker 3: one of them are equipped to do it. But LeBron
[39:27] Speaker 3: needs shooting and Luka needs vertical spacing. You can't go
[39:30] Speaker 3: get that when you get two players on super big
[39:34] Speaker 3: boy maxes. Back to your point, you can't do that
[39:37] Speaker 3: in today's league. You can't go and get mid-level exception.
[39:40] Speaker 3: And not all maxes are, when I say big boy maxes,
[39:44] Speaker 3: the rookie max, totally different.
[39:47] Speaker 2: Then the big boy max.
[39:48] Speaker 3: The big boy, that extra 5%, that extra 10% is
[39:52] Speaker 3: a huge, huge change in what you can afford and
[39:55] Speaker 3: what you cannot afford in the open market. And you
[39:58] Speaker 3: get two dudes on super big boy maxes that leaves
[40:02] Speaker 3: you next. They, bro, they make $ 100 million together on
[40:06] Speaker 3: the same team.
[40:08] Speaker 2: What are we doing?
[40:10] Speaker 1: It's tough, man. It's tough, tough, tough. But I got it.
[40:16] Speaker 1: Two things I want to hit before we get out
[40:18] Speaker 1: of here. One, both kind of quickly, but we'll get
[40:21] Speaker 1: it right. One of them is we talked about Denver.
[40:24] Speaker 1: And I think Denver did a lot by doing a
[40:27] Speaker 1: little because Denver's problem was depth. Denver's problems was depth
[40:31] Speaker 1: and an unreliability of Michael Porter Jr., which I attribute
[40:39] Speaker 1: to his body, not because there was something wrong with him.
[40:42] Speaker 1: I don't think we talked nearly enough about what it
[40:44] Speaker 1: takes for Porter to simply play basketball. All the contraptions
[40:48] Speaker 1: they got because it dropped foot and stuff like that.
[40:50] Speaker 1: They traded here for Cam Johnson. They are not the
[40:53] Speaker 1: exact same player, but they are reasonable facsimiles of one another.
[40:56] Speaker 1: And Cam Johnson is going to give them much of
[40:58] Speaker 1: what they hope to get. out of Michael Porter, right?
[41:02] Speaker 1: They got Bruce Brown. And the big one is Jonas
[41:04] Speaker 1: Valachunas gives them something they have not had, which is
[41:07] Speaker 1: an actual real live backup to Jokic because they just
[41:10] Speaker 1: get destroyed in the non-Jokic minutes. I think they back up.
[41:15] Speaker 1: Like I'm not saying they're the best team in the West,
[41:17] Speaker 1: but they back up.
[41:20] Speaker 3: I think, look at the fact that you got Cam
[41:23] Speaker 3: Johnson who shot 39% from three on seven threes a night.
[41:29] Speaker 3: and he wasn't playing with Nikola Jokic? Do you mean
[41:32] Speaker 3: to tell me what type of looks he's going to
[41:34] Speaker 3: go get? They get Tim Hardaway Jr., who's just a
[41:37] Speaker 3: capable vet? Just a capable vet. Think about it like this, Bo.
[41:42] Speaker 3: If Aaron Gordon's hamstring was not made of paper mache
[41:46] Speaker 3: a couple of months ago, they may beat the eventual
[41:50] Speaker 3: NBA champions, the 68-win NBA champions in a seven-game slugfest,
[41:56] Speaker 3: and all I needed was a second guy. All I
[41:58] Speaker 3: needed was a second dude that I could depend on
[42:02] Speaker 3: while I take on the bulk of everything else, of
[42:05] Speaker 3: all the responsibility. And you go and get me a
[42:08] Speaker 3: couple of dudes. That speaks to me and says to
[42:10] Speaker 3: me a bunch of different things. Remember how Boston won
[42:14] Speaker 3: the championship last year and everybody said, oh, Boston's going
[42:18] Speaker 3: to go on a run. And everybody in the East
[42:20] Speaker 3: just better pack up for the next couple of years
[42:22] Speaker 3: because Boston's on it. The Knicks of all teams said,
[42:25] Speaker 3: we're going to go get Carl Towns and Mikael Bridges.
[42:28] Speaker 3: And then they put the Celtics out. Mitigating circumstances, a
[42:31] Speaker 3: bunch of stuff.
[42:32] Speaker 2: You know, Chris S.
[42:32] Speaker 3: Porzingis got the cooties and all that, but they put
[42:35] Speaker 3: the Celtics out even before Jason Tatum went down with
[42:37] Speaker 3: that Achilles. Now you look at the 68-win champs and
[42:41] Speaker 3: you see Houston loading up, Denver's loading up. We can't
[42:44] Speaker 3: even talk about the Lakers or Golden State or any
[42:46] Speaker 3: of these other teams or Dallas.
[42:48] Speaker 2: Because these other teams are chasing you and chasing you
[42:53] Speaker 2: with aggression.
[42:54] Speaker 3: Denver didn't even have the resources and got back up,
[42:57] Speaker 3: making a lot out of a little. We might be
[43:00] Speaker 3: spending next June in Denver if Nikola Jokic is healthy
[43:03] Speaker 3: and that team is put together.
[43:06] Speaker 1: Look, what I don't like about this CBA, and in
[43:08] Speaker 1: line with what you just said, having the best team,
[43:12] Speaker 1: having the best player in the NBA should make you
[43:13] Speaker 1: a contender for a title.
[43:14] Speaker 3: Yes.
[43:15] Speaker 1: Yes. Like, I don't like this idea that they have
[43:18] Speaker 1: the best. He's still the best player in the NBA.
[43:21] Speaker 2: Yes.
[43:22] Speaker 1: Great job, buddy. Ain't no hating, baby. But number one
[43:24] Speaker 1: guy is still that dude over there. That should make
[43:27] Speaker 1: you a championship contender. Instead, they just did not have
[43:30] Speaker 1: the depth, right? They could not keep the guys. And
[43:33] Speaker 1: we're talking about keeping guys like Bruce Brown. You know
[43:35] Speaker 1: what I mean? Like the dudes that we're talking about
[43:37] Speaker 1: them needing to keep in order to keep it up
[43:38] Speaker 1: and they couldn't. That is what I don't like. But
[43:40] Speaker 1: I think they managed to support. I think they managed
[43:43] Speaker 1: to put enough around him to where they don't have
[43:45] Speaker 1: to run him into the ground, right? They replaced. I
[43:49] Speaker 1: was always a big Porter guy. Like I am not
[43:52] Speaker 1: a big Jamal Murray guy. I think Jamal Murray is
[43:55] Speaker 1: entirely a product of playing with Nick Aliota. And we're
[43:59] Speaker 1: going to see how it goes with him with all
[44:00] Speaker 1: these injuries and how they stack up and how he
[44:02] Speaker 1: looked when he, when instead of playing with Jokic, he
[44:04] Speaker 1: had to play with dudes from Canada. You know, it
[44:06] Speaker 1: wasn't really, it wasn't really, it wasn't really hitting the same,
[44:10] Speaker 1: you know what I'm saying? So we're going to see
[44:12] Speaker 1: it here. I don't want to cut, I hate to
[44:14] Speaker 1: cut that so short. I just have to, I have to,
[44:17] Speaker 1: I have to get this in. Okay. We talked on
[44:20] Speaker 1: Monday about Malik Beasley and I talked about it in
[44:22] Speaker 1: larger terms about how this gambling stuff is going to
[44:25] Speaker 1: be a thing and everything else. Just, you know, Not
[44:27] Speaker 1: kicking a dead horse because the horse is still limping around.
[44:29] Speaker 1: I'm just making sure y'all know I've been talking about
[44:31] Speaker 1: this for a minute. But the Detroit News, your alma mater,
[44:36] Speaker 1: put out a story about Malik Beasley, formerly of the
[44:38] Speaker 1: Detroit Pistons, who I don't think will be of the
[44:40] Speaker 1: Detroit Pistons. And you had not seen this, which is
[44:43] Speaker 1: disappointing because you're one of the few people who's outside
[44:46] Speaker 1: of Detroit who actually has a Detroit News subscription. And therefore,
[44:50] Speaker 1: you could have seen this article that I had to
[44:52] Speaker 1: trust snippets that came from other people. I'm going to
[44:56] Speaker 1: read you some things about who he owes money to.
[45:04] Speaker 1: And I quote, in March, Beasley was sued in Detroit's
[45:08] Speaker 1: 36th District Court for failing to pay $ 14, 150 in rent
[45:12] Speaker 1: at the Stott. The historic high-rise apartment building in downtown
[45:16] Speaker 1: Detroit is owned by Bedrock Detroit, the real estate arm
[45:19] Speaker 1: of the business empire built.
[45:21] Speaker 2: By Dan Gilbert.
[45:23] Speaker 1: Take a guess. There you go.
[45:25] Speaker 2: There you go.
[45:27] Speaker 1: That's right. So Malik Beasley owes his landlord Dan Gilbert. Okay.
[45:34] Speaker 1: I have more. Last month, Beasley was sued again by
[45:38] Speaker 1: the stock for failing to pay $ 7, 355. A hearing is
[45:41] Speaker 1: scheduled for July 15th. Oh, a couple of weeks.
[45:43] Speaker 3: Okay.
[45:43] Speaker 1: In January... A celebrity barbershop with a long roster of
[45:53] Speaker 1: NBA stars won a $ 26, 827 judgment against Beasley. The barbershop,
[46:01] Speaker 1: Cairo Cuts, operates in Milwaukee, where Beasley paid for the
[46:04] Speaker 1: Milwaukee Bucks from 2022 to 2024. How do you run
[46:07] Speaker 1: up a $ 27, 000 bill at the barbershop?
[46:13] Speaker 2: I was about to ask that very... Who's getting haircuts?
[46:17] Speaker 2: How many kids you got? Do you got a bunch
[46:19] Speaker 2: of kids? Y'all on a friends and family plan? You
[46:22] Speaker 2: get a haircut every day?
[46:23] Speaker 1: Hold on. I need to know this, man. If y'all
[46:27] Speaker 1: from Milwaukee, tell me about what's going on at Cairo Cuts.
[46:32] Speaker 1: Because apparently, they cutting the fuck out of heads. Tell
[46:36] Speaker 1: me what they got. Tell me what they can do
[46:38] Speaker 1: for me. Because if that's what they... $ 26, 000. Okay, but wait.
[46:44] Speaker 2: There's more?
[46:45] Speaker 1: This is where we got more. In January, a Minnesota
[46:49] Speaker 1: dentist won a $ 34, 390 default judgment against Beasley, according to
[46:55] Speaker 1: court records. The dentist, Hassan Al-Shahabi of Delicate Smiles, started
[47:01] Speaker 1: garnishing Beasley's paychecks from the Pistons in February, court records show.
[47:07] Speaker 1: The debt has not subsided. been satisfied according to court documents.
[47:11] Speaker 1: Malik Beasley has made $ 60 million in the NBA. And
[47:14] Speaker 1: my question about that garnishment is, who else is on
[47:17] Speaker 1: his check if the dentist ain't got his $ 35, 000 yet? Because,
[47:22] Speaker 1: you know, don't forget Malik Beasley also once pulled the
[47:25] Speaker 1: yap on the wife and kids, right? Or the woman
[47:27] Speaker 1: and kids. I don't know if it was the wife,
[47:29] Speaker 1: but I'm assuming he got to send checks to them. I...
[47:33] Speaker 1: Tom Havishaw would a very good thing about how let's
[47:36] Speaker 1: be careful about being sure about what they're investigating Beasley
[47:40] Speaker 1: for because he had some compelling evidence that some of
[47:42] Speaker 1: what's come up, there's reason to believe that he did
[47:44] Speaker 1: not do the things that they said. And I think
[47:46] Speaker 1: that that's all totally fair. All that stuff is totally true. However,
[47:51] Speaker 1: them clips of him trying to hurry up and cover
[47:53] Speaker 1: the spread at the end. Oh, no, no, no, no.
[47:55] Speaker 1: I see what time it is there. And I got
[47:57] Speaker 1: to be honest, if you're the Pistons, After they start
[48:00] Speaker 1: garnishing checks, y'all got to start looking at these dudes
[48:03] Speaker 1: a little bit more closely, you dig?
[48:06] Speaker 2: It's a weird thing, right? Like, you owe Dan Gilbert.
[48:10] Speaker 3: Like, that is the wild thing to me.
[48:14] Speaker 1: A man that I don't think I would want to
[48:16] Speaker 1: owe money to. I don't think he has a sense
[48:18] Speaker 1: of humor about those things.
[48:21] Speaker 3: Dan Gilbert was a former bookie at Michigan State, right?
[48:26] Speaker 3: That's not slander, right?
[48:28] Speaker 2: Right.
[48:29] Speaker 1: I hope that's right.
[48:31] Speaker 2: I hope the right time don't get sued for this.
[48:33] Speaker 2: I'm sorry.
[48:34] Speaker 3: But yeah, that's Dan. The pinky might be that man's
[48:39] Speaker 3: real name in East Lansing or something like that.
[48:41] Speaker 2: So, no, this is.
[48:44] Speaker 3: Bo, this is fascinating to me because, A, he was
[48:47] Speaker 3: about to sign three for 42. He was playing his
[48:51] Speaker 3: ass off last year. I think he came second in
[48:55] Speaker 3: threes to Anthony Edwards, who all of a sudden turned
[48:58] Speaker 3: to Klay Thompson, right? The bad thing for this is
[49:02] Speaker 3: you go back and you look at those games and
[49:05] Speaker 3: you're like, oh, yeah, he's trying to cover the spread.
[49:07] Speaker 3: Or the worst thing is, and I don't know if
[49:09] Speaker 3: you remember this, Bo, do you remember the last play
[49:12] Speaker 3: of the Pistons season last year? The very last play.
[49:16] Speaker 3: You probably don't. You remember the second to last play,
[49:18] Speaker 3: which was Jalen Brunson. The last play of the season
[49:22] Speaker 3: was a perfectly executed, out-of-bounds play to set up Malik
[49:28] Speaker 3: Beasley on the right wing for a wide-open three, which
[49:31] Speaker 3: would have tied the game and sent it to overtime.
[49:34] Speaker 1: That's right.
[49:35] Speaker 2: And he dropped the pass.
[49:37] Speaker 3: And I'm not saying that to say, oh, look at
[49:39] Speaker 3: what happened there. Because he hit six threes in the
[49:42] Speaker 3: second quarter when they were on the verge of getting
[49:43] Speaker 3: blown out. I say that to say, when stuff like
[49:47] Speaker 3: this comes up, people start becoming Twitter detectives, amateur-ass detectives,
[49:52] Speaker 3: and saying, look at that.
[49:54] Speaker 2: He threw the game.
[49:55] Speaker 3: And for me, if there is one sport that cannot
[49:59] Speaker 3: afford a scandal of integrity or of validity, it is
[50:04] Speaker 3: the NBA.
[50:05] Speaker 1: Okay.
[50:05] Speaker 3: Because every time you look up, every single team that
[50:09] Speaker 3: wins a championship, everybody points to and says, oh, man,
[50:12] Speaker 3: the league.
[50:13] Speaker 2: Wanted Oklahoma City to win.
[50:14] Speaker 3: They wanted Oklahoma City to win?
[50:18] Speaker 1: What type of crack are you smoking?
[50:20] Speaker 3: But that's what people believe with the league. Oh, the
[50:23] Speaker 3: refs wanted this to happen. The league put Scott Foster here.
[50:26] Speaker 2: Blah, blah, blah.
[50:27] Speaker 3: And now you got to put the players and prop
[50:29] Speaker 3: bets and over-unders into this.
[50:32] Speaker 2: And man.
[50:33] Speaker 3: Ain't this just weird to talk about ain't even just
[50:36] Speaker 3: it's just weird to read.
[50:39] Speaker 1: Yeah and so i have this question for the league
[50:42] Speaker 1: are they going to reach a point where it's like
[50:44] Speaker 1: and there are there are jobs like this um we
[50:47] Speaker 1: got to run credit checks like can you afford to
[50:50] Speaker 1: sign a dude that owns a bunch owes a bunch
[50:51] Speaker 1: of people a bunch of money at this point in
[50:54] Speaker 1: time Because like, we're going to find out what it
[50:57] Speaker 1: comes down to with this dude. But if you want
[50:59] Speaker 1: to do just a straight line quip, we see how
[51:01] Speaker 1: it happens. We understand where these things go. Can you, again,
[51:05] Speaker 1: this dude made $ 60 million and he's apparently, I mean,
[51:10] Speaker 1: what is wrong with his teeth, by the way? I
[51:11] Speaker 1: don't think we got around to talking about that. Like,
[51:15] Speaker 1: he'd just been, you know, look, I had times where,
[51:17] Speaker 1: you know, I didn't have dental insurance. I was skipping it.
[51:19] Speaker 1: You know what I'm saying? I got back. I ain't
[51:21] Speaker 1: have to do no $ 50, 000 worth of stuff, though. Like,
[51:23] Speaker 1: what's up with your grill, homie? What's your breath smell like?
[51:29] Speaker 2: Yeah.
[51:30] Speaker 3: I mean, I thought we, I thought we had health
[51:33] Speaker 3: insurance in the league though.
[51:35] Speaker 2: He never spent time out of the league. I don't,
[51:38] Speaker 2: as far as I, as far as I can remember.
[51:40] Speaker 1: No, but I want to say this though, and this
[51:43] Speaker 1: is very important. They investigated Terry Rozier and apparently nothing
[51:47] Speaker 1: has come up. Right. I don't, I think there's more coming.
[51:51] Speaker 1: Don't get me wrong, but We can't go so far
[51:54] Speaker 1: to make these assumptions about what is actually happening.
[51:57] Speaker 2: Right.
[51:58] Speaker 1: However, they're going to have to get this under control. Right.
[52:02] Speaker 1: Because what actually surprised me about that would be easily
[52:04] Speaker 1: was I felt like we had the era of these
[52:07] Speaker 1: dudes going broke is kind of gone away because they
[52:10] Speaker 1: get so caught up with people who help them take
[52:12] Speaker 1: care with their money and all that stuff so early now.
[52:15] Speaker 1: Like it's a much different world than it used to be.
[52:18] Speaker 1: Your money guy is far less likely to steal from you.
[52:21] Speaker 1: In this day and age, like, I don't think you're
[52:22] Speaker 1: going to end up with a Kareem Abdul-Jabbar type of situation.
[52:25] Speaker 2: Or Tim Duncan and Kevin Garnett.
[52:28] Speaker 1: Right, right, right. The industry that surrounds this is so
[52:31] Speaker 1: much better built out. Right. And these guys make so
[52:34] Speaker 1: much money that even if they get got, they can
[52:37] Speaker 1: build the stack back up pretty quick. But clearly this dude,
[52:42] Speaker 1: he ain't got it. Like I saw somebody on Twitter
[52:45] Speaker 1: make a response on one of these and was like,
[52:46] Speaker 1: if this is only $ 100, 000, all the money he makes,
[52:49] Speaker 1: he can obviously pay this back. Obviously he, but maybe
[52:53] Speaker 1: he can, but he didn't.
[52:55] Speaker 3: I mean, look, if you're getting garnished at that point,
[52:59] Speaker 3: you want to get that off. You want to get
[53:02] Speaker 3: that off of your paperwork ASAP because they're going to
[53:05] Speaker 3: take more than what someone's going to take more off
[53:09] Speaker 3: of that than what you actually owe.
[53:11] Speaker 2: So it behooves you to take care of that. It
[53:14] Speaker 2: was just unfortunate.
[53:16] Speaker 3: Like he was just going to sign a three and
[53:17] Speaker 3: 42 contract, not to say as soon as he signed
[53:20] Speaker 3: this money, everybody was going to get paid.
[53:22] Speaker 2: Like that's usually not necessarily how it works. But Bo,
[53:26] Speaker 2: what are we doing here?
[53:27] Speaker 3: Like, like you said, I thought we were out of
[53:28] Speaker 3: this era and apparently, and maybe we're not, but when
[53:32] Speaker 3: you add all those things up together and then he's
[53:34] Speaker 3: getting investigated by the feds, It removes a level of
[53:39] Speaker 3: benefit of the doubt. And that's the unfortunate thing for
[53:42] Speaker 3: him is that people will look at him and say,
[53:45] Speaker 3: you don't get benefit of the doubt anymore.
[53:48] Speaker 1: Hey man, let me ask you this. You ever had
[53:51] Speaker 1: them hop up on your check before? I ain't never
[53:57] Speaker 1: had them hop up on my check. I did once
[53:59] Speaker 1: have the state, erroneously, that's the word I'm looking for here,
[54:03] Speaker 1: erroneously hop up and scoop my whole bank account one day, boy.
[54:07] Speaker 1: That is embarrassing. Man, the motherfucker. Instead of adding, instead
[54:14] Speaker 1: of subtracting, they add it. Like, it really happened just
[54:18] Speaker 1: like that. Something that was supposed to go in one
[54:19] Speaker 1: column went in the other column. And I had to
[54:22] Speaker 1: call them because I was like, my shit was gone.
[54:23] Speaker 1: And I called the bank. Like, what's that code? And
[54:25] Speaker 1: they were like, oh, that's the state. That's the tax man.
[54:28] Speaker 1: I was like, I don't know what I'm joking. There's
[54:29] Speaker 1: no money in that column. They were like, oh, damn,
[54:31] Speaker 1: my bad. We put it in column B instead of
[54:34] Speaker 1: column A. But it was Friday. I couldn't get no
[54:38] Speaker 1: money until Monday. How was you living for the weekend?
[54:45] Speaker 1: Like I used to, dog. Figuring it out. That's what
[54:49] Speaker 1: I was doing. Figuring it out. Let me tell you something.
[54:52] Speaker 1: That wasn't the first time I had no money till Monday.
[54:55] Speaker 1: You know what I'm saying? I don't even remember what
[54:59] Speaker 1: I did. This is after I was on TV. So
[55:01] Speaker 1: I'm in the restaurant getting ready to go to Around
[55:03] Speaker 1: the Horn. I got my suit on. They know it's me.
[55:06] Speaker 1: You know what I'm saying? And they just hopped in
[55:08] Speaker 1: and got me for my shit, right? But I can't
[55:11] Speaker 1: imagine nothing more embarrassing. I'm talking to people that's like
[55:14] Speaker 1: that when they call your job and that means there's
[55:16] Speaker 1: at least one person at your job that knows that
[55:19] Speaker 1: they hopping in and taking your bread. There's at least one.
[55:22] Speaker 1: And let me tell you something, that person, whoever handles payroll,
[55:27] Speaker 1: you know what I'm saying? Office manager, whoever run the checks,
[55:31] Speaker 1: they the ones that was like, hey, I don't know, man.
[55:33] Speaker 1: You see the way he dropped that pass? I don't
[55:37] Speaker 1: know if y'all know this, but uh, His dentist hopped
[55:41] Speaker 1: up in his check.
[55:45] Speaker 2: Now you're thinking about the man's grill.
[55:49] Speaker 1: Yo, man, like what is wrong with you? I mean,
[55:51] Speaker 1: apparently his grill is fine, but I ain't seen no
[55:53] Speaker 1: diamonds in that bitch. Like what is what's going on
[55:57] Speaker 1: in your mouth, dog? He can't pay the rent. He
[56:02] Speaker 1: can't pay for his teeth. And by the way, shout
[56:03] Speaker 1: out to him. You ain't got the money, but you
[56:05] Speaker 1: still take care of your teeth, man. That's teaching your
[56:08] Speaker 1: kids the right way, I suppose. The barber, and by
[56:11] Speaker 1: the way, let me tell you something, man. I'm glad
[56:13] Speaker 1: that Cairo Cuts took him to court because I don't
[56:16] Speaker 1: know about your experience with barbers and not every barber
[56:18] Speaker 1: I've had, just to be clear, but I feel like
[56:21] Speaker 1: barbers are a profession that are likely to adjudicate matters
[56:25] Speaker 1: on their own.
[56:27] Speaker 2: Fist to cuffs. If you're lucky. Or something. Hey, you
[56:34] Speaker 2: seen Belly?
[56:35] Speaker 1: I was thinking pistol cuffs.
[56:37] Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
[56:39] Speaker 1: If you want to combine the pistol and the fist
[56:41] Speaker 1: of cuffs together, that's everybody's favorite friend, the pistol whip.
[56:46] Speaker 2: Oh, shit.
[56:48] Speaker 3: Look, how much did you really owe the barber for
[56:52] Speaker 3: the barber to win that type of judgment?
[56:55] Speaker 2: Okay, because clearly.
[56:56] Speaker 3: There's legal fees and everything else, but how many haircuts
[56:59] Speaker 3: How many times do you get your hair cut? Clearly,
[57:02] Speaker 3: you get your hair cut, you get your teeth right.
[57:05] Speaker 3: How many times do you get your hair cut in Milwaukee?
[57:07] Speaker 3: Where do you have to go in Milwaukee that you
[57:10] Speaker 3: got to be fresh that often? If you're in LA,
[57:14] Speaker 3: I can swallow that.
[57:16] Speaker 1: But why did you keep cutting his hair?
[57:18] Speaker 2: That's a great point.
[57:21] Speaker 1: At some point, you're just going to have to be raggedy, homie.
[57:24] Speaker 1: great point right now granted who know I just maybe
[57:26] Speaker 1: interest racked up and that'd be the fun part too
[57:29] Speaker 1: if the barber added on his own interest like at
[57:31] Speaker 1: the at the bank at Cairo Mutual they stack that
[57:38] Speaker 1: up I have no idea but yo damn like Malik
[57:44] Speaker 1: Beasley you are officially known as the brokest ass of
[57:47] Speaker 1: the whole NBA dog that is that is.
[57:55] Speaker 3: When he comes back and plays, the trash talk will
[58:00] Speaker 3: be merciless.
[58:02] Speaker 1: I'm going to be out here with him like, hey man,
[58:04] Speaker 1: you need anything? Do you need to go get a
[58:11] Speaker 1: rebound right quick? We're getting all the boards today. We're
[58:15] Speaker 1: getting all the rebounds today. I got the over, he
[58:18] Speaker 1: got the under.
[58:19] Speaker 3: I saw somebody have the child support people Run up
[58:23] Speaker 3: on them as soon as they left the floor.
[58:28] Speaker 1: That, by the way, happens all the time. That is underrated.
[58:32] Speaker 1: I talked to one Hall of Fame caliber player talking
[58:35] Speaker 1: about somebody. They come to get you at the games
[58:37] Speaker 1: because you can't go nowhere.
[58:38] Speaker 2: Because they know where you at.
[58:41] Speaker 1: The whole game of the team figuring out how to
[58:43] Speaker 1: get the process server to another place. Yeah, that happens.
[58:48] Speaker 1: I think we may have come up with the voicemail
[58:50] Speaker 1: topic for the day. Ladies and gentlemen, that is Vinny Goodwill.
