[0:07] Speaker 1: This podcast.
[0:10] Speaker 2: Welcome to Meet Eater Trivia, the only game show where
[0:12] Speaker 2: conservation always wins. I'm your host, Spencer Newhart and today
[0:16] Speaker 2: we're joined by Randall Brody, Corinne, Nate John and Roman.
[0:20] Speaker 2: This is a ten round quiz show with questions from
[0:23] Speaker 2: meat eaters four verticals which are hunting, fishing, conservation, and cooking.
[0:27] Speaker 2: There is a prize. Meat Eater will donate five hundred
[0:29] Speaker 2: dollars to the conservation organization of the winner's choosing for
[0:33] Speaker 2: the satura the week. This week we're looking at the
[0:35] Speaker 2: Shelby Index. For today's episode, she set a personal best
[0:39] Speaker 2: for a new Shelby Index record. Here's what we're gonna do.
[0:43] Speaker 2: If she wins today's show, We're gonna make it a
[0:45] Speaker 2: thousand dollars donation instead of five hundred dollars.
[0:48] Speaker 3: Did you clear that? With the power set.
[0:50] Speaker 2: Being no no, I just assume one of you is
[0:53] Speaker 2: going to beat her despite her high score. We'll get
[0:55] Speaker 2: to her score in a minute. Now, we have an ifaq.
[0:58] Speaker 2: If you have an ifaq, say it to Trivia at
[1:01] Speaker 2: the meadeater dot Com with the subject line I faq.
[1:04] Speaker 2: Sarah Sinco says, my local tavern has recently decided to
[1:09] Speaker 2: install a night of trivia, and I volunteered to host.
[1:12] Speaker 2: I'm wondering what tips or tricks you could suggest to
[1:15] Speaker 2: help make this event fun and successful for all. Randall,
[1:19] Speaker 2: you're a bar night, tavern going trivia connoisseur. Yes, what
[1:24] Speaker 2: advice could you give to Sarah be a great host?
[1:28] Speaker 4: I have three pieces of advice. Two of them have
[1:30] Speaker 4: thought of. The third one will come to me. Number
[1:33] Speaker 4: one is if there's a limit on the number of
[1:35] Speaker 4: people that consider at a table, and force it. Okay,
[1:39] Speaker 4: when there's ten people sitting at a table and then
[1:41] Speaker 4: every other table has three or four people, just be like, hey, guys,
[1:45] Speaker 4: you got to break if you're playing, you gotta break
[1:47] Speaker 4: up the group.
[1:48] Speaker 5: It's just it just it's a no brainer.
[1:51] Speaker 4: What are they gonna say, Oh no, we want to
[1:54] Speaker 4: have more people than as low. Number two is, it's
[1:58] Speaker 4: not all about you played some bark trivia games where
[2:02] Speaker 4: the guys treating it like a like a one man show.
[2:05] Speaker 5: An open mic, and it's like, did.
[2:07] Speaker 4: You practice all these one liners on your parents before
[2:10] Speaker 4: you left home tonight?
[2:12] Speaker 6: You know?
[2:13] Speaker 5: And I like to just say, keep it about the game.
[2:16] Speaker 4: It's fun to have a couple of cracks here and there,
[2:18] Speaker 4: but otherwise, you know, just just play the game straight
[2:22] Speaker 4: like people are there for the questions.
[2:24] Speaker 3: How important are drink specials?
[2:27] Speaker 6: Very important?
[2:27] Speaker 2: I doubt Sarah has that kind of power.
[2:31] Speaker 6: She can do.
[2:32] Speaker 4: There was a before before it was the Thomas Marbar
[2:36] Speaker 4: and Missoula. They used to have a trivia night there
[2:40] Speaker 4: and it was like eight dollars pictures of flat tire.
[2:44] Speaker 5: To the point that I cannot.
[2:45] Speaker 3: Flat tire or fat time, fat fat tire.
[2:49] Speaker 4: This boat's poorly for today's performance, like a swim or
[2:52] Speaker 4: fat tire. I can't smell the stuff anymore without getting sick.
[2:57] Speaker 4: I mean, just like six years of every two day
[3:00] Speaker 4: night drinking fat tire until what a funny promotion? Yeah, yeah,
[3:06] Speaker 4: it was odd. It's not like a very I just
[3:08] Speaker 4: feel like that's a weird beer to.
[3:09] Speaker 5: Drink in large volumes. Yeah. My third point about trivia is.
[3:13] Speaker 4: Just see if they can start it early.
[3:17] Speaker 5: Don't start trivia at eight.
[3:19] Speaker 7: Yeah, that's the that's a one thing against the molly
[3:21] Speaker 7: here in town.
[3:21] Speaker 5: Yeah. I mean it's great trivia.
[3:23] Speaker 4: I like the questions, but it'd be great if you
[3:26] Speaker 4: could get the thing going at at seven six thirty
[3:29] Speaker 4: even I feel like there's I feel like most people
[3:32] Speaker 4: are just going to go there from work instead of
[3:35] Speaker 4: going home. There's no reason to start trivia at eight
[3:37] Speaker 4: o'clock unless you're doing two games.
[3:39] Speaker 2: Fill any advice for Sarah You love bar trivia?
[3:42] Speaker 7: Yeah, this is kind of a follow up to Randall's
[3:44] Speaker 7: like it's not about you comment. But at the same time,
[3:47] Speaker 7: I do think you need to kind of present an
[3:48] Speaker 7: air of confidence, like you need to need to make
[3:51] Speaker 7: the players believe that they're they're at a they're on
[3:54] Speaker 7: a steady ship and that and that the captain is
[3:57] Speaker 7: is is trustworthy because once once holes start being poked,
[4:01] Speaker 7: the whole thing could fall apart.
[4:03] Speaker 4: I also want to tip my hat to Sarah and
[4:05] Speaker 4: to the bar that is initiating this. There's there's not
[4:09] Speaker 4: enough good trivia out there in the world, and kudos
[4:13] Speaker 4: for stepping up.
[4:14] Speaker 2: We don't know the name of the place, she says,
[4:16] Speaker 2: local tavern. Any other advice for Sarah.
[4:18] Speaker 6: Yeah, I got one. I would say, make the questions
[4:21] Speaker 6: easier than you think you need.
[4:22] Speaker 5: To make them.
[4:23] Speaker 2: That's exactly what I was going to say to Sarah.
[4:25] Speaker 2: I think it's important, Sarah that you have someone to
[4:27] Speaker 2: test these on, Like I have the Shelby index and
[4:30] Speaker 2: that is effective to an extent. But yeah, assume that
[4:34] Speaker 2: your audience needs they'll have more fun if the questions
[4:38] Speaker 2: tend to be easier than harder.
[4:40] Speaker 3: You could send them a night testomon.
[4:42] Speaker 4: There you go, And I had one more point just
[4:45] Speaker 4: on the format. There are some bar trivia games where
[4:50] Speaker 4: you write your ten answers for the round on a
[4:52] Speaker 4: single sheet of paper and take it up after it.
[4:54] Speaker 4: There's some bar trivia games where they have you write
[4:57] Speaker 4: an answer on a single piece of paper and run
[4:59] Speaker 4: it up after every question.
[5:00] Speaker 5: Don't do that.
[5:01] Speaker 2: Oh, you don't like that one.
[5:02] Speaker 5: There's too much standing up and sitting down. That's not
[5:05] Speaker 5: what we came for.
[5:07] Speaker 4: And then it's like someone got somebody. Yeah, someone who
[5:11] Speaker 4: has the chair on that corner gets stuck just getting up,
[5:14] Speaker 4: and you're gonna miss all the funny banter.
[5:16] Speaker 2: Yeah.
[5:17] Speaker 5: So those are just my thoughts.
[5:19] Speaker 2: Okay, Spencer, If I may good advice for Sarah, oh
[5:22] Speaker 2: I may I have a quick announcements.
[5:24] Speaker 5: Please, Hello Meat Eater Trivia listeners.
[5:27] Speaker 4: On Friday, March thirteenth, an episode of Trivia was recorded
[5:30] Speaker 4: in which I said several things I later regretted they
[5:33] Speaker 4: are as.
[5:34] Speaker 2: Follows, Oh this is from you.
[5:36] Speaker 5: I don't care. Terrible question. Hey Maggie, look at the scoreboard.
[5:42] Speaker 4: I don't care, don't be as smart ass Spencer, and
[5:46] Speaker 4: I don't want to be here anymore. I'd just like
[5:49] Speaker 4: to apologize for the listeners for all that negativity and
[5:51] Speaker 4: borish behavior. There's too much of it in the world,
[5:53] Speaker 4: and I regret my partner contributing to that. I do
[5:55] Speaker 4: stand by my critique of the question about revolvers and
[5:58] Speaker 4: about the California gold Rush, and I wish I'd remembered
[6:00] Speaker 4: to mention the film norbit when we were discussing Eddie
[6:02] Speaker 4: Murphy films.
[6:03] Speaker 2: That's all okay, thank you. That will satisfy some folks.
[6:07] Speaker 6: We need more of that in this world.
[6:08] Speaker 2: Yeah, good, good. Addition, we have a little bit of housekeeping.
[6:12] Speaker 2: This is geography related housekeeping. On a previous episode of Trivia,
[6:17] Speaker 2: I said in the flavor text that Harvard University's Arborreedam
[6:21] Speaker 2: is located in Connecticut. But of course that's wrong. It's
[6:24] Speaker 2: located in Boston, Massachusetts, a full fifty miles from the
[6:27] Speaker 2: Connecticut border. And in a different episode, Randall said he
[6:30] Speaker 2: didn't think they had minards in Ohio, but that's wrong.
[6:33] Speaker 2: There are thirty two minards in Ohio. Phil has a
[6:36] Speaker 2: store map for us randall lits as though they've built
[6:38] Speaker 2: minards on top of minards.
[6:40] Speaker 4: Yeah, I guess my question is when did they move
[6:43] Speaker 4: into Ohio?
[6:44] Speaker 2: You think in the last month.
[6:46] Speaker 6: No, but.
[6:48] Speaker 4: I haven't lived in Ohio for twenty years, more than
[6:52] Speaker 4: twenty years, so I think that's fair.
[6:54] Speaker 2: Okay, that's part of your culture.
[6:56] Speaker 4: Minard shout up to Loveland, right on the Little Miami
[6:59] Speaker 4: River out to Loveland.
[7:00] Speaker 3: You need to go back there and do a little
[7:01] Speaker 3: tree stand hunting with Kenyon or someone.
[7:03] Speaker 4: Oh, I'd love to do that. I'd love to do that.
[7:05] Speaker 4: I'd like to just make a whole series where I
[7:07] Speaker 4: just live in Ohio and do all of my favorite things.
[7:10] Speaker 5: All rights.
[7:12] Speaker 2: The Shelby index for today is a six point six seven,
[7:16] Speaker 2: So I'm putting us on perfect say that again, six
[7:20] Speaker 2: point six and seven. First time spend two thirds of
[7:24] Speaker 2: a point, She got two thirds of a question. The
[7:26] Speaker 2: winner should get uh well, so I'm putting us on
[7:32] Speaker 2: perfect score Alard again. If nobody beats Shelby today, if
[7:35] Speaker 2: nobody gets a seven, it's going to be one thousand
[7:37] Speaker 2: dollars donation. Are we gonna get like scores and like thirds?
[7:41] Speaker 3: Today Randall had seven and a.
[7:44] Speaker 2: Third exclusively for the Shelby Index.
[7:46] Speaker 5: That's that's it. I like it.
[7:48] Speaker 2: And with that we're out of the game of trivia.
[7:50] Speaker 2: I played the drag post. I need to know what
[7:55] Speaker 2: I shoul stay to win.
[7:56] Speaker 5: Everything, saying, here's tend to win everything.
[8:08] Speaker 2: Game on suckers.
[8:10] Speaker 3: Question one, you're gonna join us? Are you gonna keep
[8:12] Speaker 3: typing on that phone?
[8:15] Speaker 2: Turtle?
[8:16] Speaker 5: Turtle?
[8:18] Speaker 3: Question one?
[8:18] Speaker 2: The topic is fishing. This first great question is via
[8:21] Speaker 2: Chris Porter, and as always, this will be multiple choice.
[8:25] Speaker 2: Which of these rivers has the highest elevation? Is it
[8:30] Speaker 2: Yellowstone River, Niobrera River, Tennessee River, or Columbia River?
[8:37] Speaker 6: I hate you, Chris.
[8:39] Speaker 2: Which of these rivers has the highest elevation, Chris Porter?
[8:43] Speaker 2: This is Chris Porter, Yellowstone, Niabrera, Tennessee, Columbia.
[8:50] Speaker 5: If it's the Chris Porter I'm thinking of, that's a
[8:51] Speaker 5: good guy.
[8:52] Speaker 7: If we don't know what states a certain river.
[8:55] Speaker 2: Runs through, I'm not going to help you with that one.
[9:00] Speaker 2: Which of these rivers has the highest elevation Yellowstone, Niabrera, Tennessee, Colombia,
[9:12] Speaker 2: m No, no confidence, zero room, Brody. Do you have
[9:19] Speaker 2: a nailed narrowed down to a.
[9:20] Speaker 3: Few Yeah, OK, I'm just gonna stick with you.
[9:25] Speaker 2: Which it should be elevation? The Yellowstone River, Niabrera River,
[9:32] Speaker 2: Tennessee River, or Columbia.
[9:35] Speaker 8: What it not?
[9:36] Speaker 2: Should everybody ready go ahead and reveal your answers? Nate
[9:40] Speaker 2: says Colombia, Roman Colombia, Randall Yellowstone, John Colombia, Corinne, Colombia, Brody, Yellowstone.
[9:50] Speaker 2: The correct answer is the Yellowstone River or Brody and
[9:55] Speaker 2: Randall got that one right. The highest point of the
[9:58] Speaker 2: Tennessee River is eight hundred feet, the Columbia is two
[10:01] Speaker 2: thousand and seven hundred feet, of the Niabrera is five thousand,
[10:05] Speaker 2: five hundred feet, and of the Yellowstone is eleven thousand feet.
[10:09] Speaker 2: The Yellowstone is formed near Yout's Peak in northwest Wyoming,
[10:13] Speaker 2: where small streams combined to make the longest undamned river
[10:16] Speaker 2: in the lower forty eight.
[10:17] Speaker 9: If you want to like bad ass back country trip,
[10:22] Speaker 9: like go into the thoroughfare in the headwaters of the Yellowstone,
[10:26] Speaker 9: bring bear spray.
[10:27] Speaker 2: It would look very unfamiliar.
[10:29] Speaker 9: It's super cool country in there.
[10:32] Speaker 2: Eleven thousand feet. That's twice steven high.
[10:35] Speaker 5: He's just giving us two middle fingers.
[10:37] Speaker 2: Twice as high as the next closest of the Niabrera River.
[10:42] Speaker 2: Question two, the topic is wildlife. Stanley and Zero learned
[10:47] Speaker 2: that eating onions will prevent the highly venomous yellow spotted
[10:51] Speaker 2: lizard from biting them in this two thousand and three movie.
[10:57] Speaker 6: We're Back, Nate with.
[10:58] Speaker 2: A quick answer. Stanley and Zero learn that eating onions
[11:03] Speaker 2: will prevent the highly venomous yellow spotted lizard from biting
[11:07] Speaker 2: them in this two thousand and three movies Millennial Chree.
[11:11] Speaker 6: Think this is This is the first movie that's like squarely.
[11:17] Speaker 4: Is this an adult destroys children?
[11:21] Speaker 5: Or for people that are like to know it's got
[11:23] Speaker 5: a next?
[11:24] Speaker 6: No hints, John, what's going on? Man struggling this star?
[11:31] Speaker 4: John was born in two thousand and one.
[11:35] Speaker 6: Close enough?
[11:36] Speaker 5: That's pretty good.
[11:38] Speaker 2: Gosh, so much Roman? Do you have this one? Right?
[11:41] Speaker 6: I do? I'm so excited. Okay, I never felt so good.
[11:43] Speaker 2: Stanley and Zero learn that eating onions will prevent the
[11:47] Speaker 2: highly venomous yellow spotted lizard from biting them in this
[11:51] Speaker 2: two thousand and three movie, Phil We're gonna get a
[11:53] Speaker 2: movie review from you.
[11:55] Speaker 3: This movie live action or animated?
[11:58] Speaker 5: No hints, not giving you any hints.
[12:01] Speaker 6: Close the gap, Baby, We're back.
[12:04] Speaker 2: Robin, Randall, and Brody the only players to get questioned
[12:08] Speaker 2: one right, and they have blank whiteboards. For question two,
[12:13] Speaker 2: Stanley and Zero learn that eating onions will prevent the
[12:17] Speaker 2: highly venomous yellow spotted lizard from biting them in this
[12:21] Speaker 2: two thousand and three movie. Randall, do you like your answer?
[12:25] Speaker 5: I've never seen my answer?
[12:28] Speaker 2: Okay?
[12:28] Speaker 5: It involves animals?
[12:30] Speaker 2: And do you think that Nate and Roman would have
[12:33] Speaker 2: seen this movie and liked this movie?
[12:35] Speaker 5: My guess?
[12:36] Speaker 2: Yeah, which is the energy they're giving off?
[12:39] Speaker 5: Maybe? Okay, I don't know.
[12:41] Speaker 2: John, do you have a guess? No?
[12:43] Speaker 10: I got nothing?
[12:44] Speaker 2: All right, Brody? Do you like your answer?
[12:47] Speaker 3: I don't have an answer, so no, I had to
[12:49] Speaker 3: test my answer.
[12:50] Speaker 2: Does everybody give up? Go ahead and reveal your answers.
[12:54] Speaker 2: Nate and Roman say, holes, Randall mad a gascar, John
[12:58] Speaker 2: without an answer? Without an answer, Brody without an answer?
[13:01] Speaker 2: The correct answer is holes h O L E S.
[13:05] Speaker 6: Is that?
[13:06] Speaker 2: Like?
[13:06] Speaker 6: Yeah? It's a great book.
[13:09] Speaker 2: Based on a book for I don't know, like teenage
[13:13] Speaker 2: grade middle schoolers.
[13:15] Speaker 3: I remember this movie.
[13:16] Speaker 9: Now, I never saw it, but in that troublemaker actor
[13:20] Speaker 9: who's a real child maker, Now.
[13:22] Speaker 7: That was a pre mental break.
[13:24] Speaker 6: They survive off splosh exactly.
[13:27] Speaker 2: Although the yellow spotted lizard is real, the movie uses
[13:30] Speaker 2: bearded dragons to portray them. The real yellow spotted lizard
[13:34] Speaker 2: is frown, is found from Texas to Panama and does
[13:37] Speaker 2: have a venomous bite, but it's far less toxic than
[13:40] Speaker 2: the movie describes. According to holes Lower, the lizard has
[13:44] Speaker 2: exactly eleven spots, but by the time you get close
[13:46] Speaker 2: enough to count them, you'll already be dead. Of course,
[13:50] Speaker 2: they hate the taste of quote onion blood. Phil Did
[13:53] Speaker 2: you love the movie Holes?
[13:55] Speaker 7: I love the book and the movie I think is
[13:57] Speaker 7: a great adaptation. It's got an awesome cast to Ornie Weaver,
[14:00] Speaker 7: Tim Blake Nelson who kicks ass of John Voight, Henry Winkler,
[14:05] Speaker 7: Yeah it's Henry. He plays the dad.
[14:08] Speaker 5: What what's the author?
[14:10] Speaker 7: Louis Sachar, who wrote a bunch of kid books.
[14:13] Speaker 2: There had an iconic cover as well. I think you've
[14:16] Speaker 2: seen it, you know, Nate Roman. Did you guys love Holes?
[14:21] Speaker 5: Oh?
[14:21] Speaker 6: Yeah, dude, that's like right up there with the hardy boys.
[14:25] Speaker 2: That's that's in the same like tier of like if
[14:28] Speaker 2: you're a twelve year old boy, you read Hatchet and Holes,
[14:32] Speaker 2: those hatch books.
[14:33] Speaker 9: That's back when Nate used to drug as he does
[14:36] Speaker 9: right now, like draw guns on pieces of paper.
[14:39] Speaker 6: Like Sky's fighting each other on mountains and stuff. Stanley's
[14:44] Speaker 6: last name is Yell Nats, which is what backwards Randall Stanley?
[14:48] Speaker 2: Sorry, wow, question three.
[14:52] Speaker 6: This feels good when you know a whole bunch of
[14:53] Speaker 6: stuff that Randall and Brody don't know.
[14:56] Speaker 2: Coology, that's your movie club on Holes, that's your movie club.
[15:03] Speaker 2: This next great question, Adam.
[15:06] Speaker 7: Sorry, I've got.
[15:07] Speaker 2: I've got one more thing than got.
[15:08] Speaker 7: The movie's great because it's like a last vestige of
[15:11] Speaker 7: when they used to wrap through the plot of the
[15:14] Speaker 7: movie during the credits, doesn't Shila, oh dig it? Yeah.
[15:21] Speaker 7: If you want to hear a recap you just watched
[15:24] Speaker 7: question three.
[15:25] Speaker 2: The topic is ecology and this next great question is
[15:29] Speaker 2: via Adam Leister. Also known as the Bush, this region
[15:34] Speaker 2: of Australia refers to the continent's interior that's famous for
[15:39] Speaker 2: its deserts, savannahs, and shrublands. Also known as the Bush,
[15:47] Speaker 2: this region of Australia refers to the continent's interior that's
[15:51] Speaker 2: famous for its deserts, savannahs and shrublands. Gran you have
[15:57] Speaker 2: this one right, yes, Randall, you have this one right boy?
[16:00] Speaker 5: Hope?
[16:00] Speaker 2: So okay, why am I drawn?
[16:02] Speaker 4: After not knowing about the movie Holes, I find myself,
[16:05] Speaker 4: Oh yeah.
[16:07] Speaker 2: You must have just been slightly too old. In two
[16:09] Speaker 2: thousand and three.
[16:10] Speaker 5: To Yeah two thousand and three, Yeah yeah.
[16:16] Speaker 7: Rick Fox plays a character named Clyde's sweet Feet.
[16:20] Speaker 2: That's right in Randall's sweet spot, Rick Fox fil that's
[16:23] Speaker 2: a good guy, also known as the Bush. This region
[16:27] Speaker 2: of Australia refers to the continent's interior that's famous for
[16:31] Speaker 2: its deserts, savannahs and shrublands. Brodie, do you have this
[16:35] Speaker 2: one right now?
[16:36] Speaker 3: I think I do now?
[16:37] Speaker 8: Yeah?
[16:37] Speaker 5: Yeah.
[16:38] Speaker 7: First Light.
[16:41] Speaker 3: Oh it's nice, lightweight, love it.
[16:44] Speaker 10: It's new heather gray colors.
[16:51] Speaker 9: Uh.
[16:51] Speaker 10: It's also going to be available in black.
[16:53] Speaker 5: Oh.
[16:54] Speaker 2: What's been hot at the store lately? John? What are
[16:56] Speaker 2: people buying up there?
[16:59] Speaker 10: Not bare? No, I'm still working on that.
[17:03] Speaker 11: But a lot of turkey stuff has been becoming popular

[17:22] Speaker 11: All the turkey stuff phelps easy cluck or diaphragm. That

[17:43] Speaker 5: How's the morale doing. How's the morale doing at the store?
[17:46] Speaker 10: Morale Yeah, couldn't be higher.
[17:48] Speaker 6: That's why we go there.
[17:51] Speaker 2: That's good one more time. Also known as the Bush,
[17:54] Speaker 2: this region of Australia refers to the continent interior that's
[17:57] Speaker 2: famous for its desert savannahs and bins. Go ahead and

[18:06] Speaker 2: the Outback, John, the Outback Krincess has Mania Brody says
[18:11] Speaker 2: the Outback. The correct answer is the Outback.
[18:13] Speaker 7: I thought you were going for a.
[18:16] Speaker 3: Come on, there's a chain of restaurants named after it.
[18:20] Speaker 2: Although about seventy five percent of Australia is considered the outback,
[18:24] Speaker 2: only about five percent of the Continence population lives there.
[18:28] Speaker 2: The area is known for its mar like, mars like appearance,
[18:32] Speaker 2: unique wildlife, and Aboriginal people. It's also home to the

[18:43] Speaker 2: for sheep.
[18:44] Speaker 6: Herders that looks like the DMZ Dude.
[18:46] Speaker 2: There is a map of that dingo fence.
[18:48] Speaker 5: Why didn't they just do a straight line?
[18:50] Speaker 3: And it's seriously like there's not dingos on the other side.
[18:53] Speaker 2: They say there are some holes in it, and there's
[18:56] Speaker 2: certainly some dingos that have made it through, but for
[18:58] Speaker 2: the most part it does its job. Phil has a photo,
[19:02] Speaker 2: an aerial photo of the Dingo fence as well.
[19:05] Speaker 6: How is that compared to the length of the Great Wall?
[19:07] Speaker 2: I don't know. This is the longest fence though, three
[19:09] Speaker 2: thy five hundred miles long. How long is the Great
[19:13] Speaker 2: I don't know.
[19:13] Speaker 4: I just know I watched a video the other day
[19:15] Speaker 4: of Anthony Edwards on the Great Wall, and he said
[19:19] Speaker 4: that ship's deep. Okay, that's the only great wall fact.
[19:23] Speaker 4: Question four the topic is hunting. This next great question
[19:27] Speaker 4: is via Lauren Hope.
[19:29] Speaker 2: Leon Leonwood created this type of boot in nineteen twelve
[19:33] Speaker 2: by combining a leather upper with a rubber lower shell.
[19:40] Speaker 2: Not looking for the brand, we are looking for what
[19:43] Speaker 2: that type of boot is called? Leon Leonwood created this
[19:47] Speaker 2: type of boot in nineteen twelve by combining a leather
[19:50] Speaker 2: upper with a rubber lower shell.
[19:53] Speaker 6: There's a name, dude, I.

[19:58] Speaker 9: Mm yeah, I don't think there's about this particular question.
[20:04] Speaker 2: Grin, do you have this kind of boot at home?
[20:05] Speaker 7: I do not?
[20:06] Speaker 2: Okay, do you Brody?
[20:08] Speaker 7: I do?
[20:09] Speaker 5: John?
[20:09] Speaker 2: Do you have this type of boot?
[20:11] Speaker 10: I do not? Actually I used to, but pour them
[20:14] Speaker 10: out pretty good.
[20:16] Speaker 2: Randall, you have this one right?
[20:18] Speaker 3: I do?
[20:19] Speaker 2: Do you own this boot?
[20:20] Speaker 5: I own a pair of these boots that I won
[20:23] Speaker 5: from Schnee.
[20:23] Speaker 2: Okay, that's not it's not a.
[20:31] Speaker 5: Going to say whatever.
[20:32] Speaker 6: Sorry, I don't think I have this right now?
[20:36] Speaker 2: Do you have them over?
[20:38] Speaker 5: I'm feeling good about it, but your brand point kind
[20:40] Speaker 5: of threw me out.
[20:41] Speaker 2: Now looking for the break.
[20:42] Speaker 6: That's why I feel good about mine.
[20:44] Speaker 2: Leon Leonwood created this type of boot in nineteen twelve.
[20:47] Speaker 5: Is that his real name?
[20:48] Speaker 2: Like finding a leather.
[20:50] Speaker 5: You're going to kick yourself from making a big deal

[21:32] Speaker 5: Would you get onto his name please?
[21:33] Speaker 2: Spencer ll Being designed the duck boot.
[21:37] Speaker 5: To survive hunting season in Maine.
[21:40] Speaker 2: His idea was to combine the comfort of a leather
[21:43] Speaker 2: boot with the durability of a rubber boot, but the
[21:46] Speaker 2: concept nearly didn't make it off the ground. After ninety
[21:49] Speaker 2: of the first one hundred pairs were returned, customers found
[21:52] Speaker 2: that the single stitch easily tore, which got Leon to
[21:56] Speaker 2: instead go with a triple stitch that is still used today.
[21:59] Speaker 6: Flavor text, Well, I they're kind of dead to me

[23:29] Speaker 5: I think they do.
[23:31] Speaker 2: You'd see leather.
[23:32] Speaker 5: It's a rubber. It's a rubber lower leather.

[29:46] Speaker 3: Know it works? Real good slug.
[29:48] Speaker 5: You're distracting.
[29:50] Speaker 2: You're distracting Nate from coming up with an answer. Marmots

[31:04] Speaker 4: Always wanted to explain where the.
[31:08] Speaker 2: Groundhogs have different whistles for different predators. Biologists say they've
[31:14] Speaker 2: heard unique chirps to signal the presence of eagles, coyotes, bears, humans,
[31:18] Speaker 2: and more. Here is what they sound like.
[31:26] Speaker 5: That's very cute.
[31:29] Speaker 8: They're good whistlers. I think Brodie's impatient.

[32:08] Speaker 2: every time. It's it's crazy. I've never seen so many
[32:12] Speaker 2: woodchucks or rock chucks in one spot. Question eight. The
[32:14] Speaker 2: topic is conservation. The source and blank dynamic describes how
[32:20] Speaker 2: different habitats create population growth or decline for organisms, and
[32:26] Speaker 2: the room is stumped. The source and blank dynamic describes
[32:33] Speaker 2: how different habitats create population growth or decline for organisms.
[32:43] Speaker 2: Do you have this one right, Randall?

[33:05] Speaker 9: board nicely in this round of trivia.
[33:08] Speaker 7: Yeah, I come here to learn, not to play.
[33:11] Speaker 2: The source and blank dynamic describes how different habitats create
[33:16] Speaker 2: population growth or decline for organisms. Brodie, do you have

[33:23] Speaker 9: But I did not know this the answer to this thing.
[33:27] Speaker 2: This is one of those questions that I feel like
[33:29] Speaker 2: a seventh grade science class kid a better chance than.
[33:34] Speaker 6: You, guys.
[33:35] Speaker 5: I don't think I've ever heard of this.
[33:36] Speaker 9: Yeah, I'm not like the seventh grade science thing. They
[33:39] Speaker 9: weren't teaching this when I was in seventh.
[33:41] Speaker 2: The source and blank dynamic describes how different habitats create
[33:45] Speaker 2: population growth or decline for organisms.

[34:35] Speaker 2: Rody says resource. The correct answer, which Nate crossed out,
[34:39] Speaker 2: is sink. The source and sink dynamic the source and
[34:47] Speaker 2: sink dynamic. The source and sink model shows how populations
[34:53] Speaker 2: change across adjacent habitats. At the source habitat, you have
[34:57] Speaker 2: growing populations. At the sink habitat, you have declining populations.
[35:01] Speaker 2: Here's an example. On one side of a fence, you
[35:03] Speaker 2: have a state park with a lush forest that doesn't
[35:06] Speaker 2: allow any hunting. This is the source population for white tails.
[35:09] Speaker 2: And on the other side of the fence is a
[35:11] Speaker 2: beanfield with tree stands and tower blinds. This would be
[35:14] Speaker 2: the sink population for deer. Source and sink dynamics like
[35:18] Speaker 2: this factory into game management across state lines and unit boundaries.
[35:22] Speaker 3: I'm very disappointed. I've never heard of that.
[35:24] Speaker 2: Source and sink. We have one neighbor in my little
[35:29] Speaker 2: area who is the source population of voles because he
[35:33] Speaker 2: has a very trashy yard, and then the rest of
[35:35] Speaker 2: us are the sink where the.
[35:37] Speaker 9: Trashy yard is just natural. Um, it doesn't be the
[35:41] Speaker 9: standards for your neighborhood.
[35:43] Speaker 2: It's just a lack of grooming around some of his
[35:45] Speaker 2: little buildings and.
[35:46] Speaker 3: That association getting after him.
[35:48] Speaker 2: No, No, it's all behind a fence.
[35:50] Speaker 5: It's not that bad.
[35:51] Speaker 2: I was the source of the vole population for a while.
[35:55] Speaker 2: Many source and sink. All right, Phil, we have two
[35:58] Speaker 2: questions left. Give us a scoreboard update.
[36:02] Speaker 7: Two questions remaining. It's a fairly tight game for three players.
[36:07] Speaker 7: John Curran and Roman are no longer in the running,
[36:09] Speaker 7: but Nate and Randall have five points and Brody is
[36:14] Speaker 7: one point ahead with six in first place.
[36:16] Speaker 2: With two questions to go. Question nine the topic is gear.
[36:20] Speaker 2: This Seattle based outdoor store with the word co op
[36:24] Speaker 2: in their logo is America's largest consumer co op.
[36:28] Speaker 3: Oh, I've been spending a lot of money there.
[36:32] Speaker 6: What have you been buying there? Brody?
[36:34] Speaker 3: No, I'll talk about I don't want to get I'm
[36:36] Speaker 3: like kind of a hint, kind of hint.
[36:38] Speaker 2: Seattle based outdoor stupid. That was a stupid thing to
[36:41] Speaker 2: say the word co op in their logo is America's
[36:45] Speaker 2: largest consumer co op.
[36:46] Speaker 3: But I feel like you, like, how could you not know?
[36:48] Speaker 2: This could have a one hundred percent in the room here?
[36:53] Speaker 2: What are some other source and sinks, like like the
[36:55] Speaker 2: bison ding of the dingo fence.
[36:58] Speaker 5: Well, that was the first one that came to mind.
[37:00] Speaker 2: It would be good to be a sink. They'd have
[37:01] Speaker 2: to get to the other side.
[37:02] Speaker 5: And yeah, I figure there's a couple you'd be like.
[37:07] Speaker 2: The source would be the park. The sink would be
[37:09] Speaker 2: if they wander out of the park and get killed
[37:10] Speaker 2: by a tribal member or a Montana tag holder. This
[37:15] Speaker 2: Seattle based outdoor store with the word co Op in
[37:18] Speaker 2: their logo is America's largest consumer co op.
[37:22] Speaker 6: I had a neighbor grown up who had like a
[37:24] Speaker 6: vendetta out for holes. In his process, he'd taped down
[37:27] Speaker 6: all the mole holes and then come back like twenty
[37:30] Speaker 6: minutes later and see which ones had opened back up
[37:33] Speaker 6: that they'd run through, and then he'd tamp them down again.
[37:35] Speaker 6: And he'd sit out there with a with a spade
[37:37] Speaker 6: and wait to see the little trail and commitment and
[37:40] Speaker 6: hit a great yard. Oh.
[37:42] Speaker 9: I used to work on golf course many years ago,
[37:44] Speaker 9: and we used to get a bounty for.
[37:48] Speaker 6: What was a bounty.
[37:49] Speaker 3: It was like five bucks.
[37:50] Speaker 6: That's a good ude green or a tea.
[37:53] Speaker 3: They can really do a lot. So we used to
[37:55] Speaker 3: just stomp them when we saw him.
[37:58] Speaker 2: That was it every ready, go ahead and reveal your answers.
[38:04] Speaker 2: We have Nate and Roman and Randall and John and
[38:08] Speaker 2: Corin and Brody. The whole room, says ARII. The whole
[38:10] Speaker 2: room got that correct. It's ore EI. As a consumer
[38:15] Speaker 2: co op, ARII says their business is run by the
[38:18] Speaker 2: customers who use it instead of external shareholders. This has
[38:21] Speaker 2: been part of their identity since ari I was founded
[38:24] Speaker 2: in nineteen thirty eight. There are twenty five million co
[38:26] Speaker 2: op members, with one of the unique benefits being that
[38:29] Speaker 2: you get to vote in their annual election for the
[38:32] Speaker 2: board of directors. Huh, question ten, Before we do question ten,
[38:36] Speaker 2: we will get another scoreboard update before phil.
[38:39] Speaker 7: The song remains the same since that was one hund
[38:42] Speaker 7: Brody as seven, Randall and Nate have six.
[38:46] Speaker 9: Question ten the topic wait, aren't you doing a roundup
[38:48] Speaker 9: of correct answers?
[38:49] Speaker 5: Oh? You good?
[38:50] Speaker 2: Thank you? I wasn't going to just saved me from
[38:55] Speaker 2: a conservation donation. Number one was Yellowstone River. Number two
[39:00] Speaker 2: is the movie Holes. Three the outback four? Uh, that
[39:04] Speaker 2: is the duck boot, the bean boot or the main
[39:07] Speaker 2: hunting shoe. Five was Rockabye Baby, Six was t S S.
[39:12] Speaker 2: Seven is whistle pig, eight was the sink, and nine
[39:17] Speaker 2: was ri e I.
[39:18] Speaker 5: Who's question ten?
[39:19] Speaker 2: The topic is cooking. P e I muscles are named
[39:24] Speaker 2: after this island that's found in the Gulf of Saint Lawrence.
[39:30] Speaker 2: Brody gets this one right. He's writing his ants around Hepencer.
[39:37] Speaker 6: This is just a fishing question. P e I.
[39:40] Speaker 2: Muscles are named after this island that's found in the
[39:43] Speaker 2: Gulf of Saint Lawrence.
[39:45] Speaker 6: Did you do this on purpose?
[39:47] Speaker 3: Muscles? Randall?
[39:49] Speaker 6: Uh?
[39:49] Speaker 5: Yes, God, I love those things.
[39:52] Speaker 2: Uh what do you got, Randall?
[39:54] Speaker 5: I'm just looking at uh pack boots. Yeah, pack boots
[39:58] Speaker 5: versus boots? What do you I mean?
[40:00] Speaker 4: It does say Leon Leon wood being invented the precursor
[40:05] Speaker 4: to modern pack boots none as the main hunting shoe
[40:07] Speaker 4: in nineteen eleven.
[40:09] Speaker 5: The difference is that a.
[40:12] Speaker 4: Pack boot is lined with felt, which is definitely something
[40:18] Speaker 4: that ll Bean did.
[40:21] Speaker 2: A lot of Pei muscles are named after this island
[40:25] Speaker 2: that's found in the Gulf of Saint Lawrence.
[40:30] Speaker 3: Budget on that one.
[40:31] Speaker 2: Apparently, I don't think we're going to give you the
[40:34] Speaker 2: pack boot. It sounds like that came later. The duck
[40:37] Speaker 2: boot was the og. Do you have this one right?
[40:41] Speaker 5: Name?
[40:41] Speaker 2: No, Roman, do you have this one right?
[40:43] Speaker 5: I'm feeling suspiciously decent about.
[40:45] Speaker 2: Oh okay, good Brody. I didn't know that about you.
[40:47] Speaker 2: I didn't know you were a big muscle ga.
[40:49] Speaker 7: Oh god, man, I have broth and bread, muscles and
[40:52] Speaker 7: fries probably my top three meals.
[40:54] Speaker 2: Yeah, I love that.
[40:55] Speaker 3: It's the worst thing, is it?
[40:57] Speaker 9: Like we go to Steve's shack and it's just like
[41:00] Speaker 9: miles of muscle encrusted shoreline, but we're like never there
[41:04] Speaker 9: at a time of year when it's like, yeah, you could,
[41:06] Speaker 9: you can go get.
[41:07] Speaker 2: Them because the seasons.
[41:10] Speaker 9: Because of that what the what is it called the Yeah,
[41:16] Speaker 9: Second Street Bistro in Livingston is probably where we do
[41:19] Speaker 9: most of our muscles and fries.
[41:21] Speaker 2: P e. I Muscles named after this island that's found
[41:24] Speaker 2: in the Gulf of Saint Lawrence. Nate is gonna make
[41:26] Speaker 2: one last change. Then we're gonna flip them over. Go
[41:33] Speaker 2: ahead and reveal your answers. Nate says, Prince Edward Island. Roman,
[41:38] Speaker 2: Prince Edward Island, Randall, same answer, John without an answer,
[41:41] Speaker 2: Krin and Brody said. Prince Edward Island says Prince Edward Island.
[41:49] Speaker 3: Come on, don't give.
[41:54] Speaker 2: It to me. I don't care.
[41:58] Speaker 5: You know, his belly was like grumbling.
[42:01] Speaker 2: The answer is Prince Edward, don't get Edward mussel.
[42:07] Speaker 7: I would give it to him, but if he wants
[42:08] Speaker 7: to go to it, I don't.
[42:12] Speaker 2: We're gonna give him the point. Pi muscles are a
[42:15] Speaker 2: type of blue muscle that comes from the coastline of
[42:18] Speaker 2: Canada's smallest province, Prince Edward. A bunch of people are
[42:21] Speaker 2: gonna be like Brodie. They are. They are considered a
[42:27] Speaker 2: superior muscle thanks to the cold, nutrient rich waters where
[42:31] Speaker 2: they're raised. Pei muscles are known for their jet black shells,
[42:34] Speaker 2: sweet flavor, and tender meat.
[42:36] Speaker 4: Another way of looking at it is, if you count
[42:38] Speaker 4: pack boot and you don't count Prince Edward muscles, I
[42:41] Speaker 4: would have just won outright, So we don't even need to.
[42:44] Speaker 2: Go to Yeah, yeah, Randall won it. We'll give it
[42:50] Speaker 2: to Brody for Prince Edward muscles. Brody's the winner today
[42:54] Speaker 2: with eight correct.
[42:55] Speaker 5: Answers, I feel like this fell flat beats.
[42:58] Speaker 2: The Shelby index by one point.
[43:00] Speaker 8: Another episode three three, that whole thing just threw me off.
[43:07] Speaker 2: Should we do it, Tiebreaker Spencer, No, since.
[43:13] Speaker 9: We have a new Conservation director and Mark Kenyon, and
[43:18] Speaker 9: we're gonna do like a new version of the l
[43:20] Speaker 9: A I.
[43:21] Speaker 5: Let's throw some.
[43:22] Speaker 3: Money in the med Eater land access is okay.
[43:25] Speaker 2: Mark thinks it's coming this summer. We haven't done an
[43:27] Speaker 2: auction house of it. He's in wild that we have
[43:29] Speaker 2: all kinds of good stuff. Join us next week for
[43:33] Speaker 2: more meat Eater Trivia, the only game show Conservation always wins.
[43:37] Speaker 1: Thanks Spencer, Spencer, Yeah, Spencer from South Dakota. He's the host,
[43:43] Speaker 1: using those smooth mellow tones. He lays them questions down,
[43:53] Speaker 1: and he likes taking those two and three year old bucks.
[43:57] Speaker 1: It is an avid amateur lock how
