Bottom Line: By September 18, 2026, Ukrainian forces north of Lyman had liberated Hrekivka and pushed across the Zherebets into Luhansk oblast’, as Operation “Vivaldi” destroyed the northern arm of the russian maneuver to outflank Sloviansk and Kramatorsk. Deep drone strikes on logistics preceded gains such as Seredne, retaken without personnel losses, while a russian grouping near Lyman faced near-encirclement. The counteroffensive amounts to Kyiv’s answer to the “land for peace” proposal, leaving the initiative in Ukrainian hands.
