[0:37] Speaker 1: any of our weekly uploads. Okay, let's get into today's stories.
[1:00] Speaker 1: One evening in July of 2016, a woman named Bei
[1:04] Speaker 1: carried a bowl of rice to the dining table at
[1:06] Speaker 1: her home in the city of Liuzhou, China. Her two
[1:10] Speaker 1: teenage kids and her ex-husband, Qin, were already seated and
[1:14] Speaker 1: they were talking and they were laughing. But when Bei
[1:17] Speaker 1: came over and set the rice down and took her seat,
[1:20] Speaker 1: the mood changed. It was like everybody suddenly got very
[1:24] Speaker 1: quiet and began passing the dishes around in this sort
[1:28] Speaker 1: of tense silence. So, Bei and Qin had a very
[1:32] Speaker 1: complicated relationship. They'd officially gotten divorced six years earlier. Like,
[1:37] Speaker 1: they are not married anymore. But at the time when
[1:41] Speaker 1: they got divorced, they had agreed to keep living in
[1:44] Speaker 1: the same house to keep the family together. Now, this
[1:48] Speaker 1: had been very hard on everyone, Bei, Qin, their kids,
[1:51] Speaker 1: for the first couple of years. But eventually, they sort
[1:54] Speaker 1: of got used to it. And then actually, after a
[1:57] Speaker 1: few years, the two, Bae and Chin, they actually began
[2:00] Speaker 1: to fall in love all over again. And they had
[2:02] Speaker 1: even begun talking about getting remarried, but they hadn't gotten
[2:06] Speaker 1: remarried yet. And so again, just a few years ago,
[2:09] Speaker 1: it seemed like they were on a path where the
[2:12] Speaker 1: family would be whole again, they'd be married again, and
[2:15] Speaker 1: nothing had really happened yet, but that's the path they
[2:17] Speaker 1: were on. But then a few months ago, everything had changed.
[2:22] Speaker 1: Chin had begun acting increasingly cold and distant toward Bae,
[2:26] Speaker 1: And even though, again, they've been divorced this whole time,
[2:29] Speaker 1: they were always very cordial. But now there was like
[2:31] Speaker 1: this icy front that he was putting up. And then
[2:34] Speaker 1: just a few days ago, Bae had discovered very likely
[2:38] Speaker 1: the reason behind this. She found out that Chin was
[2:42] Speaker 1: seeing another woman. Now, Bae, she obviously understood that Chin
[2:47] Speaker 1: can do this if he wants to. They are divorced.
[2:50] Speaker 1: I mean, they live together. They have kids together. But
[2:52] Speaker 1: they're not a couple here. You know, she knew logically
[2:55] Speaker 1: he could do that, but it just really hurt her.
[2:58] Speaker 1: You know, for years now, she was thinking, you know,
[3:01] Speaker 1: we're going to get remarried. And now it's like, what's
[3:03] Speaker 1: this about? And so Bay, after finding out about this,
[3:07] Speaker 1: she confronted him about what she called the affair, even though, again,
[3:11] Speaker 1: it's not really an affair. But it had just turned
[3:13] Speaker 1: into a huge fight, and they hadn't made up yet.
[3:16] Speaker 1: And so now the tension between them was palpable as
[3:21] Speaker 1: they sat at the table together. Like, it was so clear. There's, like,
[3:23] Speaker 1: this huge conflict that is just totally unresolved. But now,
[3:27] Speaker 1: as Bae looked around the table at her family, she
[3:30] Speaker 1: felt a wave of not, you know, anger anymore, but longing.
[3:35] Speaker 1: She did love Chin still. And she also loved having
[3:38] Speaker 1: him and her kids all under one roof, sharing meals
[3:42] Speaker 1: together and, like, being a true family. And she wondered,
[3:46] Speaker 1: you know, maybe if she could just show Chin... how
[3:49] Speaker 1: amazing she was, and how good he had it with
[3:52] Speaker 1: her and their family here, maybe he would stop seeing
[3:57] Speaker 1: this new girlfriend of his. So the next morning, after
[4:00] Speaker 1: Chin left for work, it was like Bae was on
[4:02] Speaker 1: a mission. She spent the entire day cleaning the house
[4:07] Speaker 1: and picking up all of Chin's dirty underwear and all
[4:10] Speaker 1: his laundry, doing his clothes. I mean, she made the
[4:12] Speaker 1: house look spotless. And by the time Chin finally came
[4:15] Speaker 1: home from work that night … She had prepared this
[4:18] Speaker 1: beautiful meal that was all ready for him. And even
[4:21] Speaker 1: though Chin really didn't have a huge reaction to any
[4:24] Speaker 1: of her efforts, it didn't matter because Bae knew this
[4:27] Speaker 1: is like a mission she's on. She is going to
[4:29] Speaker 1: show him that she is the best he's ever going
[4:32] Speaker 1: to get. And so the next day, she did it
[4:35] Speaker 1: all over again. Picked up after Chin and made the
[4:37] Speaker 1: house so beautiful, cooked more food. He comes home, sort
[4:41] Speaker 1: of doesn't care. And the day after that and the
[4:43] Speaker 1: day after that, she was just being the perfect wife.
[4:46] Speaker 1: But eventually it did sort of wear on her that
[4:48] Speaker 1: it's like he doesn't even seem to be noticing. But still,
[4:52] Speaker 1: she was not ready to give up. And so after
[4:54] Speaker 1: about a week of this, Bae was in her kitchen,
[4:57] Speaker 1: you know, dutifully cooking this big meal for Chin and
[5:00] Speaker 1: her kids, even though Chin wasn't even home and he
[5:03] Speaker 1: wasn't answering his phone. So Bae didn't even know if
[5:06] Speaker 1: he'd be home to eat this food. And her kids
[5:08] Speaker 1: weren't home either. I mean, it really was like truly
[5:11] Speaker 1: nobody cared or even noticed that she was trying so
[5:14] Speaker 1: hard to be the perfect wife here. But just then,
[5:17] Speaker 1: Bae's phone rang on the counter, and she glanced at
[5:20] Speaker 1: the screen, and she saw it was her daughter calling.
[5:22] Speaker 1: So Bae picked it up, and right away she heard
[5:25] Speaker 1: her daughter, who sounded really panicked, saying there was a
[5:28] Speaker 1: huge problem. She explained to her mother that her dad, Chin,
[5:33] Speaker 1: was in the hospital, that he had apparently had this
[5:35] Speaker 1: really painful rash. And that had led him to go
[5:38] Speaker 1: to the hospital because it wasn't going away. But now
[5:42] Speaker 1: he was having trouble breathing. And the doctors were saying
[5:45] Speaker 1: it was very, very serious that he might not survive.
[5:49] Speaker 1: And hearing this, Bay immediately felt this knot in her stomach.
[5:53] Speaker 1: Her heart began to race. And she told her daughter
[5:56] Speaker 1: it was going to be okay. She'd be there soon.
[5:57] Speaker 1: And then she hung up the phone. And with shaking hands,
[6:01] Speaker 1: she grabbed her keys and her purse and she headed
[6:03] Speaker 1: out the door. But she didn't go to the hospital. So,
[6:08] Speaker 1: Bae had been so desperate to show Chin that she
[6:11] Speaker 1: was the perfect wife for him that she had completely
[6:14] Speaker 1: thrown herself into all the housework and the cooking and
[6:17] Speaker 1: the cleaning to prove to him that she was better
[6:20] Speaker 1: for Chin than his new girlfriend. Except she took this
[6:24] Speaker 1: idea of, like, outperforming the new girlfriend a step too far.
[6:29] Speaker 1: In addition to all the genuine efforts that Bae was
[6:32] Speaker 1: making to tidy the house and make food and all
[6:34] Speaker 1: that stuff, She also was doing something to Chin's laundry
[6:38] Speaker 1: with a very specific intention in mind. She was soaking
[6:42] Speaker 1: Chin's laundry in something called paraquat, which is an herbicide
[6:46] Speaker 1: that causes burning and peeling when it comes into contact
[6:50] Speaker 1: with skin. Bay's hope was that this would cause a
[6:54] Speaker 1: rash on Chin, and it would make him think that
[6:57] Speaker 1: his new girlfriend was dirty and she had given him
[7:01] Speaker 1: a sexually transmitted disease that she's so gross, like, get
[7:04] Speaker 1: rid of her. However, it was not until Bay got
[7:07] Speaker 1: that call from her daughter that she finally realized just
[7:11] Speaker 1: how toxic paraquat really was, especially when applied in very
[7:16] Speaker 1: high concentrations to very sensitive areas of skin. And so Chin,
[7:21] Speaker 1: he's unknowingly wearing these poisoned underwear, and eventually the paraquat
[7:26] Speaker 1: seeped through his skin into his bloodstream and did nothing.
[7:30] Speaker 1: permanent damage. And so when Bae got that call from
[7:33] Speaker 1: her daughter and realized clearly it's because of her that
[7:37] Speaker 1: Chin is this sick and that he might even die
[7:39] Speaker 1: because of what she's done, she felt so guilty that
[7:43] Speaker 1: instead of going to the hospital, she immediately went to
[7:46] Speaker 1: the police and turned herself in. And unfortunately, two days
[7:50] Speaker 1: after that, Chin would die from the poisoning. He died
[7:54] Speaker 1: from organ failure. Ultimately, Bae was charged with intentional injury,
[7:58] Speaker 1: and sentenced to 11 years in prison. One night in
[8:21] Speaker 1: the winter of 1620, a soldier whose name was Jan
[8:25] Speaker 1: was crouched in this dark, cramped church loft in the
[8:28] Speaker 1: city of Prague, and what he was doing is he
[8:31] Speaker 1: was waiting for the people who took care of this
[8:33] Speaker 1: church to lock up for the night and leave. Jan
[8:36] Speaker 1: had actually been in this hiding spot for hours at
[8:39] Speaker 1: this point. His legs were going numb from the awkward
[8:42] Speaker 1: position he was in. But he knew this was going
[8:45] Speaker 1: to be worth it, because as soon as the church
[8:48] Speaker 1: was empty, he'd have free reign of the place, and
[8:50] Speaker 1: he could take whatever he wanted. So Jan was part
[8:54] Speaker 1: of an army that fought for the Habsburg Empire, which
[8:57] Speaker 1: ruled most of Europe at the time. And they had
[8:59] Speaker 1: just won this huge battle and taken over this city, Prague.
[9:03] Speaker 1: And since the battle was now all done, Jan and
[9:06] Speaker 1: many of his other soldiers were supposed to go home soon.
[9:10] Speaker 1: But before Jan left, he felt like he deserved some
[9:14] Speaker 1: spoils of war. And he'd heard that this specific church
[9:18] Speaker 1: was filled with all these gold and jewels and and
[9:21] Speaker 1: it had not been ransacked. Like, lots of buildings in
[9:24] Speaker 1: Prague had been ransacked by this point by the invading army,
[9:28] Speaker 1: but the church had gone untouched. Very likely because it's
[9:31] Speaker 1: a sacred building, and even the invading army recognized that.
[9:35] Speaker 1: But Jan, he could care less about the sanctity of
[9:39] Speaker 1: this building. He had snuck in earlier that day, pretending
[9:42] Speaker 1: to be a worshiper, and he had seen that the
[9:45] Speaker 1: rumors about this place being full of incredible jewelry and gold...
[9:49] Speaker 1: It was right. Pretty much everywhere he looked, there were
[9:51] Speaker 1: things to steal, like beautiful gilded furniture and little jewelry
[9:56] Speaker 1: pieces that worshipers had left around as offerings to the
[9:59] Speaker 1: church and its saints. I mean, this place was like
[10:02] Speaker 1: a gold mine. But what excited Jan the most was
[10:06] Speaker 1: up on the church altar. Up there, there was this
[10:09] Speaker 1: huge statue of the Virgin Mary holding Jesus on her lap,
[10:13] Speaker 1: with one hand behind his head and the other gently
[10:15] Speaker 1: resting on his stomach. And this statue had a massive
[10:20] Speaker 1: gold chain around the Virgin Mary's neck, which Jan really
[10:24] Speaker 1: wanted to steal. So he had snuck up to this
[10:27] Speaker 1: cramped church loft to wait for his chance to do
[10:30] Speaker 1: just that. Just then, Jan heard the heavy front doors
[10:33] Speaker 1: of the church close with a bang, and after that,
[10:36] Speaker 1: it was complete silence. He waited a few more minutes
[10:40] Speaker 1: just to be sure, and then when he knew the
[10:43] Speaker 1: coast was clear, he got out of his hiding spot,
[10:46] Speaker 1: he stretched, his way towards the altar. Moments later, Jan
[10:51] Speaker 1: found himself looking up at this huge statue of the
[10:53] Speaker 1: Virgin Mary and baby Jesus, and his eyes were fixated
[10:58] Speaker 1: on that gold chain, which was truly just stunning, enormous.
[11:02] Speaker 1: And he was thinking, man, it's going to be really
[11:04] Speaker 1: easy just to slip that thing right off of there. However,
[11:07] Speaker 1: the statue itself was huge, and it was also up
[11:12] Speaker 1: on this ledge above the altar. And so to just
[11:15] Speaker 1: physically get the chain was going to be a challenge. Like,
[11:18] Speaker 1: he couldn't reach it. I mean, he'd literally have to
[11:20] Speaker 1: climb up to get to it. But luckily, there was
[11:23] Speaker 1: a stool right nearby. And so he went over, he
[11:25] Speaker 1: grabbed the stool, he put it in front of the statue,
[11:28] Speaker 1: and then he began climbing basically up the statue and
[11:31] Speaker 1: the ledge to get up to this chain so he could,
[11:34] Speaker 1: you know, hook it off her neck and take it.
[11:35] Speaker 1: But right as he reached the point where he'd be
[11:38] Speaker 1: able to grab the necklace, he reached for it, and
[11:41] Speaker 1: as his fingers were about to close around the chain,
[11:45] Speaker 1: He suddenly felt this tight, searing pain in his arm,
[11:49] Speaker 1: and when he looked to see what had happened, he screamed.
[11:52] Speaker 1: The next morning, a priest walked into this church to
[11:56] Speaker 1: set up for morning service. And as soon as he
[11:58] Speaker 1: walked inside and looked towards the front altar, he froze.
[12:03] Speaker 1: Because there was a man dangling from the statue of
[12:06] Speaker 1: the Virgin Mary, and he was kicking his feet like
[12:08] Speaker 1: mad and begging the priest for help. like he was
[12:11] Speaker 1: stuck and couldn't get down. The priest had no idea
[12:14] Speaker 1: what was going on here, but he immediately hurried up
[12:17] Speaker 1: the aisle to try and help the guy. But when
[12:20] Speaker 1: he got there, he saw that the man was actually
[12:23] Speaker 1: like caught on the statue, like he was totally trapped
[12:27] Speaker 1: in some ways. However, when he got there and he
[12:30] Speaker 1: saw how this man was stuck on the statue, the
[12:34] Speaker 1: priest just stared in total disbelief because what he was
[12:38] Speaker 1: seeing was either a miracle or an act of divine vengeance.
[12:44] Speaker 1: Because the Virgin Mary's hand, which had been resting on Jesus,
[12:48] Speaker 1: was now reached out and was wrapped around the dangling
[12:52] Speaker 1: man's arm, like the statue had literally grabbed him. Now,
[12:57] Speaker 1: the priest is thinking, like, how is this even possible?
[13:00] Speaker 1: None of this makes any sense. But when he tried
[13:02] Speaker 1: to pull the man away and to help free him,
[13:06] Speaker 1: the hand wouldn't let go. The man was truly stuck.
[13:09] Speaker 1: And so in the end, They actually cut Jan's arm
[13:13] Speaker 1: off at the elbow. That's how they got him down.
[13:16] Speaker 1: And the instant his arm was severed, witnesses say the
[13:21] Speaker 1: Virgin Mary's grip relaxed and his arm was released. Jan
[13:25] Speaker 1: was arrested for trying to steal from the church, and
[13:27] Speaker 1: he actually was thrown in prison. However, the experience changed
[13:31] Speaker 1: him so dramatically that after he was released from prison,
[13:35] Speaker 1: he entered a monastery and became a monk. Now, this
[13:38] Speaker 1: story happened 400 years ago, and so we don't really
[13:41] Speaker 1: know what happened. I mean, maybe the statue of the
[13:44] Speaker 1: Virgin Mary came to life and grabbed Jan's arm and
[13:48] Speaker 1: pinned him there, like the priest claimed and like Jan claimed.
[13:52] Speaker 1: Or maybe Jan, after climbing up the statue, fell and
[13:55] Speaker 1: got sort of trapped, like hooked on the statue's arm.
[13:59] Speaker 1: Maybe that happened. And maybe they overreacted and lopped his
[14:02] Speaker 1: arm off. I mean, we don't know. But what we
[14:05] Speaker 1: do know is that his arm really did get cut
[14:07] Speaker 1: off because they kept the arm. And today, his severed arm,
[14:12] Speaker 1: his withered and dry severed arm, is hanging from a
[14:16] Speaker 1: meat hook by the entrance to that church in Prague
[14:19] Speaker 1: to discourage anyone else from trying to steal from the
[14:22] Speaker 1: Virgin Mary. Just before sunset in June of 1997, a
[14:45] Speaker 1: 31-year-old man named Nasiruddin rode a horse through a snowstorm
[14:50] Speaker 1: in the mountains of northern Pakistan. His younger brother, Kathiruddin,
[14:55] Speaker 1: followed right behind him on his own horse. Nasiruddin was
[14:58] Speaker 1: desperate to get them out of the mountains before the sunset,
[15:02] Speaker 1: because when it did, the temperature would get dangerously low,
[15:06] Speaker 1: and continuing to follow the trail in the dark was
[15:09] Speaker 1: like a death sentence. I mean, the ridge that they
[15:12] Speaker 1: were on now and would have to continue riding out
[15:15] Speaker 1: of the mountain range was, you know, icy. It was steep.
[15:18] Speaker 1: There were all these jagged drop-offs. And so one wrong
[15:21] Speaker 1: step and you were dead. Now, the reason these brothers
[15:24] Speaker 1: were even traveling through this very dangerous mountain pass in
[15:27] Speaker 1: the first place is because they had recently been pulled
[15:31] Speaker 1: into this violent feud with some neighbors of theirs. And
[15:35] Speaker 1: in fact, it had gotten so bad that they had
[15:37] Speaker 1: been forced to evacuate their village immediately. and they couldn't
[15:40] Speaker 1: travel along the main roads anymore where they could be seen.
[15:43] Speaker 1: And so here they are taking this horrible sort of
[15:46] Speaker 1: back roads way. And now on top of all the
[15:49] Speaker 1: hazards they were facing, it also had begun to snow.
[15:52] Speaker 1: And so Nasiruddin and his brother, they're racing against the
[15:56] Speaker 1: sun setting, they're making their way, they're getting hit with
[15:59] Speaker 1: all the snow, they can barely see anything because of it.
[16:02] Speaker 1: And then as they're racing along, a gunshot sounded from
[16:07] Speaker 1: somewhere down the mountain. And then a bullet whizzed past
[16:10] Speaker 1: Nasiruddin's ear. He could hear it snap next to his head.
[16:13] Speaker 1: Nasiruddin realized their neighbors had found them, even out here,
[16:17] Speaker 1: like they've been found. This feud is spilling over into
[16:20] Speaker 1: other areas. And he knew he and Kithiruddin, his younger brother,
[16:25] Speaker 1: were exposed out here. And so Nasiruddin desperately began looking
[16:28] Speaker 1: around for somewhere they could take cover from the gunfire
[16:32] Speaker 1: that was going to continue to come their way. And
[16:35] Speaker 1: he saw there was a cave off in the distance
[16:37] Speaker 1: in the cliff face. Like they just had to go
[16:39] Speaker 1: a little bit further and they could get inside of
[16:41] Speaker 1: this cave. And it seemed like it was their only chance.
[16:44] Speaker 1: And so Nasiruddin yelled out to his younger brother to
[16:48] Speaker 1: follow him. But his voice was sort of drowned out
[16:52] Speaker 1: by the wind and the snow and there was more gunfire.
[16:55] Speaker 1: And so he didn't know if his brother even heard him.
[16:57] Speaker 1: And so Nasiruddin, as more and more rounds are being
[17:00] Speaker 1: fired at them, they're landing pretty close. He just drove
[17:04] Speaker 1: his heels into his horse's flank and rode for the cave.
[17:07] Speaker 1: Nasiruddin's heart was pounding in his chest as he reached
[17:10] Speaker 1: the actual cave entrance. But right as they were about
[17:13] Speaker 1: to go inside, meaning him and his horse, his horse
[17:17] Speaker 1: pulled up sharp and refused to enter. And so Nasiruddin,
[17:20] Speaker 1: he just hopped off his horse and dragged it by
[17:23] Speaker 1: the reins to get it inside of this cave. And
[17:26] Speaker 1: then once he was in the cave, he turned around, hoping,
[17:29] Speaker 1: of course, that his brother, Kithiruddin, would be right behind him.
[17:33] Speaker 1: but he didn't see his brother at all. It was
[17:35] Speaker 1: just the wind and the snow whipping outside and just
[17:38] Speaker 1: the sound of more gunshots being fired. And, you know,
[17:42] Speaker 1: Nasiruddin knew it's like he should go out there and
[17:44] Speaker 1: try to save his brother. But he also thought, if
[17:47] Speaker 1: I poke my head out of this cave, I might
[17:49] Speaker 1: just get shot right then and there. And, you know,
[17:52] Speaker 1: hopefully my brother, who he's smart, he knows what he's doing.
[17:55] Speaker 1: I'm sure he's found cover somewhere else. And so Nasiruddin
[17:59] Speaker 1: decided to hunker down and just wait. But just then,
[18:02] Speaker 1: Nasiruddin noticed this light in his periphery, and he turned
[18:07] Speaker 1: and he gasped. Because this cave was apparently not an
[18:12] Speaker 1: ordinary cave. This cave was glowing. All around him, the
[18:16] Speaker 1: walls and the ceiling, they shimmered with this intense blue light.
[18:20] Speaker 1: It was so mesmerizing that for a second, it was
[18:23] Speaker 1: like time just stood still and Nasiruddin forgot all about
[18:26] Speaker 1: his brother. He just stood there trying to make sense
[18:30] Speaker 1: of these glowing walls. He didn't understand it. It was
[18:33] Speaker 1: like he had stepped into another world here. But then
[18:37] Speaker 1: more gunshots erupted outside, breaking Nasiruddin out of his trance.
[18:41] Speaker 1: And he rolled around. He's hoping maybe his brother's in
[18:44] Speaker 1: the cave now, but he's not. It's just him and
[18:46] Speaker 1: his horse. And he just thought, you know, I can't
[18:49] Speaker 1: stay here while, you know, this is going on out there.
[18:51] Speaker 1: I have to go out and find my brother. And
[18:54] Speaker 1: so Nasiruddin, he took two steps towards the entrance, then
[18:58] Speaker 1: felt this rush of cold air and the floor collapse.
[19:02] Speaker 1: disappeared beneath him. Outside the cave, Kathiruddin, so Nisiruddin's brother,
[19:08] Speaker 1: had found some cover. He was crouched down behind some
[19:10] Speaker 1: rocks with his horse lying down next to him. Kathiruddin
[19:14] Speaker 1: had seen his older brother go into that cave, but
[19:18] Speaker 1: he had not been able to follow him with all
[19:19] Speaker 1: the shooting. He knew if he got out from behind
[19:22] Speaker 1: the rocks, he'd be a dead man, so he had
[19:23] Speaker 1: just stayed. And he continued to stay there behind those
[19:26] Speaker 1: rocks until it got dark. And at that point, you know,
[19:30] Speaker 1: the shooting had stopped and had been done for quite
[19:32] Speaker 1: some time. And so he got up and he runs
[19:34] Speaker 1: over to the cave, pulling, literally pulling his horse behind him.
[19:38] Speaker 1: And when he stepped inside of this cave, the cave
[19:41] Speaker 1: was pitch black. Kathir Rudin couldn't see anything at all,
[19:45] Speaker 1: certainly not his brother. But he did feel this unsettling chilliness.
[19:50] Speaker 1: like there was just something off about this cave. And
[19:53] Speaker 1: so he called out for his brother, but there was
[19:56] Speaker 1: no response. And so Kathiruddin, he, by touch alone, because
[20:00] Speaker 1: he can't see anything, he felt his way to the
[20:03] Speaker 1: back of the cave. And the cave turned out to
[20:06] Speaker 1: actually be quite small, but it was totally empty. And
[20:09] Speaker 1: there was no sign of his brother or his horse.
[20:13] Speaker 1: And this just didn't make any sense. I mean, Kithiruddin,
[20:16] Speaker 1: from where he was behind that rock, he had a
[20:19] Speaker 1: view of the entrance to this cave. And he had
[20:22] Speaker 1: just come in here. There are no other exits. There's
[20:25] Speaker 1: only one way in or out. And the whole time
[20:28] Speaker 1: Kithiruddin had been taking cover, he basically was watching the cave.
[20:33] Speaker 1: He was looking for his brother, you know? And he
[20:35] Speaker 1: never saw his brother or the horse leave the whole
[20:37] Speaker 1: time he was there, so there's nowhere else he could
[20:39] Speaker 1: have been. And so the idea that they're not in here,
[20:42] Speaker 1: it just didn't add up. But at this point, Katheruddin
[20:46] Speaker 1: knew it was simply too dark and too cold to
[20:49] Speaker 1: effectively look for his brother. So he just hopped on
[20:53] Speaker 1: his horse and headed to a nearby village for the night.
[20:57] Speaker 1: The next morning, when Katheruddin woke up, He went right
[21:00] Speaker 1: back out to that mountainside, to that cave, and he
[21:02] Speaker 1: looked again for his brother and his brother's horse, but
[21:06] Speaker 1: there was no sign of them. He spent hours out there,
[21:08] Speaker 1: and now he's looking in this cave in the daylight,
[21:11] Speaker 1: like it's a small cave. There's nowhere else his brother
[21:13] Speaker 1: could have gone. And so it didn't make any sense.
[21:16] Speaker 1: And as the sun was getting ready to set again,
[21:18] Speaker 1: Katheruddin decided that really at this point, his only option
[21:22] Speaker 1: is to make the journey all the way to his
[21:24] Speaker 1: village and connect with some family and friends, and have
[21:28] Speaker 1: them join him in a few days and come back
[21:30] Speaker 1: out here and do an even bigger search, and just
[21:33] Speaker 1: hope that maybe in those couple of days, Kathiruddin would
[21:36] Speaker 1: turn up. However, in the coming days, he did not
[21:40] Speaker 1: turn up. And in the subsequent searches that Nasiruddin did
[21:44] Speaker 1: with other people, those also turned up nothing. And so eventually,
[21:49] Speaker 1: they just had to accept the fact that Kathiruddin must
[21:52] Speaker 1: have died somewhere in the snow. About six months later,
[21:56] Speaker 1: so towards the end of 1997, Kathiruddin, the younger brother,
[22:00] Speaker 1: went back up to that mountain pass to say some
[22:03] Speaker 1: funeral prayers for his brother. But when he got to
[22:07] Speaker 1: the spot where Nasiruddin had disappeared, the cave, well, the
[22:11] Speaker 1: cave was just gone. Now, at first, Kathiruddin thought he'd
[22:15] Speaker 1: just made a mistake and he was just in the
[22:16] Speaker 1: wrong spot. But he hiked up and down the ridge,
[22:20] Speaker 1: and there was no cave anywhere. And remember, like, he
[22:23] Speaker 1: and his family had been out here several times to
[22:26] Speaker 1: look for Nasiruddin. They had been back to the cave
[22:29] Speaker 1: on multiple occasions, and it was always there. And, like,
[22:33] Speaker 1: he knew where it was. And so the idea that
[22:35] Speaker 1: now it's just gone didn't make any sense. And so now,
[22:38] Speaker 1: Kathiruddin was even more confused about what happened to his brother.
[22:43] Speaker 1: He would go back home, and he would spend years
[22:46] Speaker 1: afterwards thinking about that strange cave and trying to make
[22:50] Speaker 1: sense of it all. but it would be decades before
[22:54] Speaker 1: he got any answers. 28 years later, on a morning
[22:57] Speaker 1: in August of 2025, Kathiruddin and his family were contacted
[23:02] Speaker 1: by the local police. A local shepherd had been grazing
[23:04] Speaker 1: his livestock in a nearby valley and had stumbled upon
[23:07] Speaker 1: some human remains just lying out on the ground. An
[23:10] Speaker 1: ID found on the body confirmed that the body belonged
[23:14] Speaker 1: to Nasiruddin, but there was something very strange about the body.
[23:18] Speaker 1: Although Nasiruddin had disappeared almost 30 years ago and was
[23:22] Speaker 1: presumed to have died, you know, approximately 30 years ago,
[23:26] Speaker 1: his body now was pristine with no signs of rot
[23:30] Speaker 1: and his clothes were all perfectly intact. It was as
[23:33] Speaker 1: if he had just died like 24 hours ago. But
[23:37] Speaker 1: in looking at Nasiruddin's body, it was clear he had
[23:41] Speaker 1: not aged. He looked like the young man he was
[23:45] Speaker 1: when he disappeared. It wasn't like He had magically survived,
[23:48] Speaker 1: not contacted anyone for 30 years and just happened to
[23:51] Speaker 1: die yesterday. It was like, no, this is the body
[23:54] Speaker 1: of someone who died 30 years ago, but somehow their
[23:57] Speaker 1: body has preserved perfectly. It was almost like Nasiruddin walked
[24:01] Speaker 1: into that cave and had been frozen in time. And
[24:05] Speaker 1: in fact, that's exactly what happened. Because it would turn
[24:08] Speaker 1: out the cave where Nasiruddin had disappeared wasn't made of rock.
[24:14] Speaker 1: It was an ice cave on the side of a
[24:16] Speaker 1: massive glacier. That's why it glowed in the sunlight, that
[24:19] Speaker 1: beautiful blue, but from the outside just looked like a
[24:22] Speaker 1: normal cave after dark. And somewhere inside of that cave,
[24:26] Speaker 1: there was a crack, like an ice crevasse that was
[24:29] Speaker 1: covered by snow. And at some point, Nasiruddin stepped on
[24:32] Speaker 1: the crack and fell into it. We don't know how
[24:36] Speaker 1: far he fell, but it must have been a significant crevasse.
[24:39] Speaker 1: And as soon as he fell into this crevasse, which
[24:42] Speaker 1: would have happened abruptly to the point where he probably
[24:44] Speaker 1: couldn't even scream out, As soon as he fell into
[24:47] Speaker 1: this crevasse, snow from inside the cave kind of toppled
[24:51] Speaker 1: down on top of this crack and covered it up.
[24:54] Speaker 1: And so in essence, Nasiruddin was like instantly encased in ice.
[25:00] Speaker 1: And unfortunately, he likely was alive for some period of time,
[25:04] Speaker 1: trapped in that ice crevasse before he froze to death.
[25:09] Speaker 1: And so that's why nobody found Nasir Rudin, because he
[25:12] Speaker 1: was literally trapped probably pretty far down inside of this
[25:15] Speaker 1: glacier covered with snow. He was basically under the ground,
[25:18] Speaker 1: if you will. And then a few months after he
[25:23] Speaker 1: froze to death inside of this crack, well, the ice,
[25:26] Speaker 1: the glacier, the top layer of the ice, it melted
[25:29] Speaker 1: enough that the cave opening melted away. And so that's
[25:33] Speaker 1: why Kathir Rudin went out there one day, months after
[25:37] Speaker 1: the fact, and said, well, where's the cave? Well, The
[25:39] Speaker 1: top part melted, but the rest of the ice down below,
[25:42] Speaker 1: the actual glacier that Nasiruddin had fallen into, that was
[25:46] Speaker 1: still intact. And his body would stay frozen in ice
[25:50] Speaker 1: deep inside of that glacier for decades, for nearly three decades,
[25:55] Speaker 1: until eventually at that point, the glacier melted enough that
[25:59] Speaker 1: his body was released and found by the local shepherd.
[26:03] Speaker 1: As for his horse, it was never found. All right,
[26:16] Speaker 1: until next time, see ya.
