[0:04] Speaker 1: Welcome to NFL Daily, the originator of The Holden. I'm
[0:09] Speaker 1: Greg Rosenthal in the Chris Westling podcast studio with my
[0:13] Speaker 1: friend Nick Shook, still recovering from Lebron James oh spiting
[0:20] Speaker 1: his hometown. Shook's hometown too, of Cleveland. He's in Cleveland.
[0:24] Speaker 1: Hopefully we'll get him out to Los Angeles at some point.
[0:26] Speaker 1: That would be amazing. This is a new type of show, Shook.
[0:29] Speaker 1: It's a news only show on this Wednesday with the
[0:33] Speaker 1: entire NFL practicing at training camp for the first time.
[0:36] Speaker 2: Are you ready?
[0:37] Speaker 3: I am ready. I was hoping I could avoid you twist.
[0:40] Speaker 3: Sorry Lebron, but we got it. You know, I knew
[0:43] Speaker 3: it was going to come eventually, So here we are.
[0:45] Speaker 2: I don't know what's wrong with me. They blew it
[0:48] Speaker 2: love language.
[0:49] Speaker 1: Yeah it is, and it's not a good one. When
[0:52] Speaker 1: I mentioned that this show is going to be a
[0:55] Speaker 1: little different, We're just going to update you on the
[0:57] Speaker 1: news because of how training camp is structured. Do this
[1:01] Speaker 1: pretty often where it's just a news only type of show,
[1:03] Speaker 1: and then our longer, bigger segments like our AFC North
[1:07] Speaker 1: preview with Jordan rod reeg Will we'll drop it on
[1:10] Speaker 1: a separate show, so look out for that one. But
[1:11] Speaker 1: this is news only, and there was a lot of
[1:13] Speaker 1: it on Wednesday. Let's start with the Falcons, which had
[1:17] Speaker 1: a no good, very bad, terrible awful first day of
[1:20] Speaker 1: training camp. Here's what happened to them on the first day.
[1:23] Speaker 1: But John Robinson not practicing, he's holding in. Did you
[1:27] Speaker 1: know shuk that I believe I originated the term holding in.
[1:31] Speaker 1: I only mention it like twice a year on this
[1:32] Speaker 1: Wait wait really, I started writing that and talking about
[1:37] Speaker 1: it on around the NFL, and I started writing on
[1:39] Speaker 1: NFL dot Com. I never seen it anywhere else, I
[1:41] Speaker 1: know Florio's, you know, people started picking it up other places,
[1:45] Speaker 1: and I was like, I came up.
[1:46] Speaker 2: I came up with the holding and now it's everywhere.
[1:49] Speaker 3: I mean, I'm not surprised because you're a creative and
[1:51] Speaker 3: innovative type, but I mean, I would love to cross
[1:54] Speaker 3: references because if we.
[1:55] Speaker 1: Can actually confirm this it's on an NFL dot com article.
[1:57] Speaker 1: I was like, I'm like, we're gonna call these hold ins.
[2:01] Speaker 1: Because it was after the new Collective Bargaining Agreement, it
[2:03] Speaker 1: became just a thing that people do and what they
[2:06] Speaker 1: do shook is they want more money. They don't want
[2:09] Speaker 1: to get the fines that the new collective barneying bargaining agreement,
[2:13] Speaker 1: you know, cost them by skipping camp, and so they
[2:15] Speaker 1: just show up and they're there, They're going to the meetings.
[2:18] Speaker 2: Kind of everyone's happy.
[2:19] Speaker 1: The coaches are happier because at least they're there and
[2:22] Speaker 1: not falling behind the players, not getting fined, and that's
[2:24] Speaker 1: what Bajan is doing. So that's number one thing that
[2:26] Speaker 1: happened to the Falcons today. Tua Tongue Biloa is not
[2:29] Speaker 1: ready for the start of camp. We don't know when
[2:30] Speaker 1: he's going to be back. He has a back injury
[2:32] Speaker 1: that we didn't know about, something that flared up. Michael
[2:35] Speaker 1: Pennock spoke to the media and said that he could
[2:38] Speaker 1: be out up to four weeks. And then the one
[2:40] Speaker 1: that hurt me personally is that they released Trevor Simeon
[2:44] Speaker 1: with a non football injury designation. Trevor Simeon team trev
[2:48] Speaker 1: had a chance to be the starting quarterback on day
[2:50] Speaker 1: one a camp and he will not be and it
[2:54] Speaker 1: sounds like this might be like a career ending type
[2:56] Speaker 1: of thing. They decided to sign Cooper Rush to help
[2:59] Speaker 1: in the meantime, let's listen to Michael Pennix talking about
[3:03] Speaker 1: his rehab.
[3:04] Speaker 4: Right now.
[3:04] Speaker 5: We're just seeing seeing where I'm at, you know, and
[3:07] Speaker 5: just you know, just trusting the process. You know, it's
[3:09] Speaker 5: more seeing how my body is feeling, you know, with
[3:12] Speaker 5: these practices. But I know I was told that like
[3:16] Speaker 5: another four weeks possibly going into that next stage. But
[3:20] Speaker 5: at the same time, it could be earlier. You know,
[3:22] Speaker 5: it just depends on, you know, how my body is
[3:24] Speaker 5: doing throughout this whole camp process.
[3:27] Speaker 1: So to be clear, Michael Pennox is involved on the
[3:30] Speaker 1: individual drills. He's doing some practice, maybe some of the
[3:34] Speaker 1: seven on sevens, I'm not sure. But because he's not
[3:37] Speaker 1: available Tua, who's had a lot of injuries over the
[3:39] Speaker 1: year back injury entering camp is a bad sign. He's
[3:42] Speaker 1: not available. Cooper Rush they just signed today. I don't
[3:45] Speaker 1: think he was available for today. Can you name the
[3:49] Speaker 1: QB one of the Atlanta Falcons on day one of
[3:51] Speaker 1: training camp. I'm considering this a bad omen.
[3:54] Speaker 3: Because I live on the news desk when I'm not
[3:57] Speaker 3: in the podcast studio virtually. His name is Jack Strand.
[4:00] Speaker 3: He is not left handed, and he is the man
[4:03] Speaker 3: with the job right now.
[4:05] Speaker 1: He went to Minnesota State Moorhead undrafted rookie. I'm not
[4:09] Speaker 1: familiar with his work. They signed him back in May.
[4:14] Speaker 1: I'm going to consider it a bad omen for the
[4:16] Speaker 1: season when Jack Strand is taking your first team rep
[4:19] Speaker 1: at training camp and your best player is holding in
[4:23] Speaker 1: which no one particularly expected. This kind of came out
[4:26] Speaker 1: of left field for Bajohn Robinson.
[4:28] Speaker 3: Yeah. I don't want to sound the panic alarm too much, though,
[4:31] Speaker 3: because neither of these quarterbacks are on pup. That's when
[4:34] Speaker 3: you would really be concerned the back flare up thing.
[4:38] Speaker 3: We'll see what happens with Tua. I mean, that could
[4:40] Speaker 3: be a tricky thing, that could be a recurring thing.
[4:42] Speaker 3: That was obviously what dominated Matthew Stafford's lead up to
[4:45] Speaker 3: his eventual NFL MVP season last year. But it's not
[4:49] Speaker 3: a good way to start the camp for sure. And
[4:50] Speaker 3: I think I'm actually more concerned about Bijon, Like, you're
[4:53] Speaker 3: gonna sign him eventually, but he's the most important part
[4:56] Speaker 3: of this team, even beyond the quarterback.
[4:58] Speaker 1: They'll get that deal done, so whether it's in a
[5:01] Speaker 1: week in two weeks, I don't think he is going
[5:05] Speaker 1: to lose too much missing a chunk of training camp.
[5:08] Speaker 2: So I'm not too worried.
[5:09] Speaker 1: It is a new offense that you want to see
[5:11] Speaker 1: him behind this new offensive line. In terms of the
[5:15] Speaker 1: offensive line coach, it's basically the same players, but it's
[5:17] Speaker 1: going to be a different scheme. But this was always
[5:20] Speaker 1: going to be the risks signing to a along with Pennex,
[5:23] Speaker 1: like two injury risks together, like like expecting eight games
[5:28] Speaker 1: out of each of them. That's not really like a
[5:30] Speaker 1: way to build a team. And it's just it's just
[5:33] Speaker 1: bad vibes. And I feel bad for Trevor Simeon too.
[5:35] Speaker 3: Could have been a recommendation. Okay, I have a recommendation
[5:38] Speaker 3: for Ian Cunningham, the GM of the Falcons, and for
[5:40] Speaker 3: Matt Ryan, president of football the Falcons. Okay, pick up
[5:43] Speaker 3: the phone and call Kevin Stefanski's former employer and kick
[5:47] Speaker 3: the tires on Dylan Gabriel. Okay, that's all I'm saying
[5:50] Speaker 3: a little depressing. It is, so is Jack Strand.
[5:53] Speaker 6: No.
[5:53] Speaker 1: I could see that happening if Deshaun Watson doesn't have
[5:58] Speaker 1: the biggest fiasco of a training camp ever and they're
[6:01] Speaker 1: just like, hey, we will give you a fifth for
[6:03] Speaker 1: Dylan Gabriel if this thing isn't going well in a
[6:08] Speaker 1: couple of weeks. So holdens were the order of the day.
[6:11] Speaker 1: As we talked about on Tuesday show. All the teams
[6:14] Speaker 1: showed up to camp on Tuesday. Wednesday was the first
[6:16] Speaker 1: day they were all practicing, and so we learned about
[6:19] Speaker 1: a lot of these holdens.
[6:20] Speaker 2: I'm going to go through them one by one.
[6:23] Speaker 1: Jamir Gibbs, like Bajon Robinson, these two are, you know,
[6:28] Speaker 1: two birds of a feather. They're affecting each other. We'll
[6:30] Speaker 1: be interesting to see who signs first. Jamir Gibbs not
[6:33] Speaker 1: practicing at Lions camp. Chris o'lave is practicing on seven
[6:37] Speaker 1: on sevens in individuals, but not doing teamwork. I noted
[6:41] Speaker 1: earlier Christian Gonzales, for instance, for the Patriots not only
[6:44] Speaker 1: doing teamwork, but he's going to do the full padded everything,
[6:46] Speaker 1: so he's not holding in at all. Olave kind of
[6:50] Speaker 1: splitting the difference. Tully Polo two not practicing fully at
[6:55] Speaker 1: Chargers training camp. Jim Harbaugh had said earlier in the
[6:59] Speaker 1: day the entire team was healthy and ready to go,
[7:02] Speaker 1: so that would indicate that that is contract related. Jonathan
[7:05] Speaker 1: Taylor of the Cults is practicing, He says, you know,
[7:10] Speaker 1: he wants to approach it this way, and he's hoping
[7:13] Speaker 1: for a new contract, and he's taking the route that
[7:16] Speaker 1: maybe maybe practicing will work out better. He had a
[7:18] Speaker 1: very contentious hold out last time around. Maybe doesn't want
[7:21] Speaker 1: to go through that again. Before I get your take, Chuck,
[7:24] Speaker 1: think about which one you think is most significant, if
[7:27] Speaker 1: any of them are. Let's listen to Dan Campbell talk
[7:29] Speaker 1: about Jamiir Gibbs.
[7:31] Speaker 4: Of course we you know, you guys know how we
[7:33] Speaker 4: feel about Gibbs and all of our guys. Laparda brand,
[7:37] Speaker 4: you know, And so we'll take this as it comes.
[7:41] Speaker 4: This is uh, you know, this will this will kind
[7:44] Speaker 4: of continue, it'll it'll come as it comes. I think
[7:47] Speaker 4: that's the best way to say it. And so you know,
[7:49] Speaker 4: this is uh, this is both both sides working through
[7:53] Speaker 4: something and and uh, and we'll take it as it comes.
[7:55] Speaker 4: But that's where it is.
[8:00] Speaker 1: I'm not putting that on a T shirt. It'll come
[8:02] Speaker 1: as it comes. But you know, it's the first day
[8:04] Speaker 1: of camp for everyone. What is the answer to my question,
[8:10] Speaker 1: which was which of these matter? If any of them.
[8:13] Speaker 3: Gives matters, even though they'll get that deal done eventually.
[8:15] Speaker 3: Like Dan Campbell said, not to repeat his catchphrase a
[8:18] Speaker 3: third time, but it will get done eventually. Olave is
[8:21] Speaker 3: in a contract year, it makes sense, Taylor, I am
[8:24] Speaker 3: the least concerned about That's to answer your question in reverse,
[8:27] Speaker 3: because in June he basically anticipated this. On June tenth,
[8:31] Speaker 3: I wrote about it, and he said last time, just
[8:34] Speaker 3: understanding that, Hey, some people are gonna run with some
[8:35] Speaker 3: of the media narratives. Some people won't, but I know
[8:37] Speaker 3: that true Indianapolis fans they'll be able to see through
[8:39] Speaker 3: the weeds and understand exactly what's going on and not
[8:42] Speaker 3: just believe everything that they read. Basically, he's saying, I
[8:45] Speaker 3: got caught in the drama last time. It got really ugly,
[8:47] Speaker 3: and luckily we worked it out. I'm not interested in
[8:49] Speaker 3: doing that again. And that's why he's participating, and that's
[8:52] Speaker 3: why they'll figure out this contract eventually. So that's positive
[8:55] Speaker 3: news over there. I understand the security risk. I think
[8:59] Speaker 3: for Chrystal LaVey, who has struggled to say on the
[9:00] Speaker 3: field because of health issues going into a contract year,
[9:02] Speaker 3: you want an extension. We'll see what happens with that one.
[9:06] Speaker 2: Tully.
[9:06] Speaker 1: Tully blowtu I think is a tricky one for them.
[9:08] Speaker 1: They have a lot of cap space the chargers, but
[9:12] Speaker 1: they're spending a lot up front. We'll see. That's what
[9:14] Speaker 1: I could actually see of all of these like lasting
[9:16] Speaker 1: the longest, we'll see. Kyle Shanahan spoke to the forty
[9:21] Speaker 1: nine ers media. I did want to circle back to
[9:23] Speaker 1: this before we got to some disappointing injury news around
[9:27] Speaker 1: the NFL on this first full scale day of training camp,
[9:31] Speaker 1: and it is a very interesting headline to read. Shook
[9:35] Speaker 1: after we had updated it on our previous show that
[9:38] Speaker 1: Kyle Shanahan wanted to correct the record, the record being
[9:43] Speaker 1: the police write up of his accident and clarify two
[9:47] Speaker 1: local reporters who he gathered together to talk off camera
[9:52] Speaker 1: that the accident that he was involved in that wasn't
[9:56] Speaker 1: reported on for eleven days was his fault. He said
[10:00] Speaker 1: he dropped his phone. He said he wasn't on his phone,
[10:03] Speaker 1: but he dropped his phone while he was driving and
[10:07] Speaker 1: was like looking for his phone while driving. He said,
[10:10] Speaker 1: He's going twenty miles an hour and he puts his
[10:13] Speaker 1: head down and is like searching around for your phone.
[10:15] Speaker 1: You know, sometimes you get it stuck between the seat
[10:18] Speaker 1: and whatever. I don't know where he was looking for it,
[10:21] Speaker 1: and he pulled his head up, he says, two seconds later,
[10:25] Speaker 1: and the air bags are going off, Like he drifted
[10:29] Speaker 1: into the other lane and got into this collision with
[10:33] Speaker 1: a woman who is reportedly doing okay. But he said
[10:37] Speaker 1: it really made him sick to think about, you know,
[10:40] Speaker 1: her seeing this that she was at fault when that
[10:43] Speaker 1: wasn't the case. So Shanahan and the way this has
[10:47] Speaker 1: all come out, it being held for ten or eleven
[10:49] Speaker 1: days and now you have to correct, like the police
[10:53] Speaker 1: right up of it. At first, I just wanted the
[10:56] Speaker 1: conspiracy theorist just just shut up, like not everything has
[10:59] Speaker 1: to be a conspiracy theory. But they're kind of helping
[11:02] Speaker 1: out the conspiracy theorists with just how all the information
[11:05] Speaker 1: has come out in this unfortunate incident.
[11:08] Speaker 3: Yeah, you know, I tend to want to say good
[11:11] Speaker 3: on Kyle for acknowledging that it was his fault and
[11:14] Speaker 3: correcting the record to take responsibility for the action. But
[11:20] Speaker 3: it's also like it is making things a little complicated.
[11:25] Speaker 3: I mean, look, you don't ever want to take your
[11:28] Speaker 3: eyes off of the road when you're driving. First off,
[11:31] Speaker 3: and foremost. But yeah, I'm glad that everybody seems to
[11:34] Speaker 3: be okay and that maybe he's learned his lesson. But
[11:38] Speaker 3: it got weirder than it needed to be. I think
[11:40] Speaker 3: it's weird.
[11:41] Speaker 1: And yeah, we'll see if there's any agreement between him
[11:45] Speaker 1: and the victim here too, like whether there's any financial
[11:48] Speaker 1: We don't know, but it's not something that law enforcement
[11:51] Speaker 1: is dealing with. And the police confirmed, they said it
[11:55] Speaker 1: was a mistake in terms of them. They confirmed that
[11:58] Speaker 1: they made an error and that they made a mistake
[12:00] Speaker 1: and that it was like a I don't know, they
[12:04] Speaker 1: called it like a technical error entering the info.
[12:07] Speaker 2: Very strange.
[12:07] Speaker 1: Let's get to the disappointing injury news from the day.
[12:10] Speaker 1: Brian Bressi, who is a defensive tackle for the Saints,
[12:14] Speaker 1: a starter, one of their better pass rushers, although a
[12:18] Speaker 1: little inconsistent certainly against the run, but he's gotten a
[12:21] Speaker 1: lot of sacks in his career as a defensive tackle,
[12:23] Speaker 1: is feared to have a torn ACL. This is a
[12:27] Speaker 1: thin defensive line. I did Mina Kaimes's podcast this week.
[12:32] Speaker 1: Check it out. It's the preview of the NFC South.
[12:34] Speaker 1: We'll talk about the NFC South and an upcoming NFL
[12:37] Speaker 1: Daily Show. But one of the things I talked about
[12:39] Speaker 1: Shook was how man, I don't think this defensive line
[12:42] Speaker 1: has enough juice. As much as I like Chase Young
[12:46] Speaker 1: and Cam Jordan is back there, if you look at
[12:49] Speaker 1: the interior the edge, they are really asking the secondary
[12:54] Speaker 1: to kind of prevent big plays because I don't think
[12:57] Speaker 1: they're going to have much of a pass rush. And
[12:59] Speaker 1: now you lose for the season maybe your biggest breakout
[13:04] Speaker 1: potential young player, a fourth year guy who's had some
[13:07] Speaker 1: production that it's a very painful injury I think for
[13:09] Speaker 1: this team.
[13:10] Speaker 3: Yeah, former first round pick and Percy not your traditional
[13:14] Speaker 3: down lineman in just the way that he wins. And look,
[13:18] Speaker 3: when you build a team, it's difficult to fill out
[13:20] Speaker 3: all three levels of a defense with depth, and you're
[13:24] Speaker 3: inevitably going to have some sort of weakness in one
[13:26] Speaker 3: place or another and you hope that you can get by
[13:27] Speaker 3: without you know, losing one of your key guys. This
[13:30] Speaker 3: is a key guy. This is like behind him on
[13:32] Speaker 3: the depth depth chart right now is John Ridgway, who's
[13:34] Speaker 3: spent a couple years in Washington, last couple of years
[13:36] Speaker 3: in New Orleans. There is a lack of depth here.
[13:38] Speaker 3: Tyree Wilson is also existing on this depth chart, former
[13:42] Speaker 3: high pick that's never really delivered, right, So you wonder
[13:46] Speaker 3: if maybe they're going to be hitting the free agent
[13:49] Speaker 3: market and checking on some veterans who might be available
[13:51] Speaker 3: to fill anything. Yeah, I think there's a guy who
[13:55] Speaker 3: tends to sign really late in the process pretty much
[13:58] Speaker 3: annually for high pick. He's out there.
[14:03] Speaker 2: Who are you talking about Clowney?
[14:04] Speaker 1: Yeah, well, he's visiting the Browns today and they're thinking
[14:08] Speaker 1: about it too. He's spoiled an exciting Brown section coming up.
[14:14] Speaker 1: But first I'll just run through the other bigger injuries.
[14:16] Speaker 1: On the first day of training camp, we learned that
[14:19] Speaker 1: Luke Musgrave, who is tight end two for the Packers,
[14:22] Speaker 1: has a neck injury. Sounds serious, which most neck injuries are.
[14:26] Speaker 1: The way Matt Laffler talked about Luke Musk's Grave, who
[14:28] Speaker 1: plays a lot for the Packers, this could be a while,
[14:31] Speaker 1: so best wishes to him that that's always really scary.
[14:35] Speaker 1: My guy from two Lane by way of Tennessee, Chris
[14:38] Speaker 1: Brazl of the Panthers, is out with a torn elcl
[14:41] Speaker 1: that's usually about an eight week injury for the Panthers.
[14:44] Speaker 1: That hurts their receiver depth. We've been talking about they're
[14:48] Speaker 1: quite thin. They've had a really injury plagued week and
[14:51] Speaker 1: a half now, very disappointing for them. He's a rookie
[14:54] Speaker 1: they wanted to contribute. And then Shamar Stewart, who is
[14:57] Speaker 1: an edge for the Bengals, their first round pick from
[15:00] Speaker 1: a year ago, was going to be part of a rotation,
[15:03] Speaker 1: potential starter, although I didn't think he was going to
[15:06] Speaker 1: be carted off the field with what appeared to be
[15:09] Speaker 1: a nasty injury. So some teams losing spots at positions
[15:13] Speaker 1: that I already thought with relatively thin Let's pivot to
[15:16] Speaker 1: your Browns. They gave out some big contracts even before
[15:20] Speaker 1: Jadavian Clowney hit the scene. We don't know if he's
[15:22] Speaker 1: going to sign for sure yet. Denzel Ward two years,
[15:25] Speaker 1: sixty two million grant, Delpit their safety three years, forty
[15:29] Speaker 1: eight million dollars. What do you think about the Browns
[15:32] Speaker 1: investing long term in these guys in the secondary.
[15:35] Speaker 3: Well, the talk after the Miles Garrett trade is this
[15:38] Speaker 3: the start of the fire sale? Is Denzel Ward going
[15:40] Speaker 3: to be next on the trade block? And they quickly
[15:43] Speaker 3: denied that at the time, and then they back it
[15:45] Speaker 3: up with the dollars by extending Denzel Ward, making him
[15:48] Speaker 3: the highest paid corner for the second time in his career.
[15:52] Speaker 3: A deserved payday for Denzel in a corner market that
[15:55] Speaker 3: tends to reset itself annually. Probably the last time that
[15:59] Speaker 3: he had is in big time. He's a local product.
[16:01] Speaker 3: It makes all the sense in the world. Grant Delpit meanwhile,
[16:04] Speaker 3: getting a deal that what's that pay him an average
[16:06] Speaker 3: of what nineteen in the year.
[16:08] Speaker 2: Yeah, three for eight on what the extension is.
[16:11] Speaker 3: Yeah, so that'd be it's top ten money. That lands
[16:16] Speaker 3: along the likes of Jesse Bates, David McKinney, a little
[16:19] Speaker 3: bit behind Budda Baker and Trevon merrig. I mean, he's
[16:23] Speaker 3: been a decent safety for them. He's a former second
[16:27] Speaker 3: round pick who came in with pretty high expectation. He
[16:29] Speaker 3: dealt an injury early in his career. He's been pretty
[16:31] Speaker 3: productive statistically, but he's never really taken that next step.
[16:35] Speaker 3: But if you're going to look, you save a lot
[16:38] Speaker 3: of money by moving on from Miles Garrett. If you're
[16:40] Speaker 3: going to redistribute that wealth among your other key defenders,
[16:43] Speaker 3: you start with Denzel Ward, and then you go over
[16:45] Speaker 3: to safety with Grant Delput who plays opposite Ronnie Hickman.
[16:48] Speaker 3: And I'm sure you're going to see Emmanuel McNeil Warren
[16:50] Speaker 3: take over in that spot before long. So it makes
[16:52] Speaker 3: sense the way that they're distributing their money right now. Defensively,
[16:56] Speaker 3: they have a lot of young talent that's on rookie contracts,
[16:58] Speaker 3: Jared Versus, Mason Graham, Carson Questioner among them, so you
[17:01] Speaker 3: can afford to do this now. I don't really know
[17:04] Speaker 3: if the money necessarily matches the productivity, if he's a
[17:06] Speaker 3: little bit more than what he's produced the rate he's
[17:10] Speaker 3: produced at, but good for him. Look, anytime somebody gets paid,
[17:13] Speaker 3: he wants to pay in their key part of the defense.
[17:15] Speaker 2: Go for it.
[17:15] Speaker 3: That's fine.
[17:16] Speaker 1: We love all our listeners. Everyone you know who listens
[17:20] Speaker 1: on the podcast. Give us a five star review, leave
[17:22] Speaker 1: us a comment. Everyone that watches on YouTube, subscribe, leave
[17:26] Speaker 1: us a comment, and enjoy the facial expression of Nick
[17:29] Speaker 1: Shook when he started to talk about Grant Delta. That
[17:32] Speaker 1: to me said more than him talking about the contract.
[17:36] Speaker 1: I don't know how these contracts age. I have a
[17:39] Speaker 1: question about Denzil Ward quickly. I don't want to spend
[17:41] Speaker 1: too much time.
[17:42] Speaker 2: Is he that good the show?
[17:44] Speaker 3: Friend of the show, Friend of the show, Denzel Ward?
[17:46] Speaker 2: Is he that good?
[17:46] Speaker 1: I sometimes want like he gets talked about like one
[17:48] Speaker 1: of the best cornerbacks, and maybe I'm missing something. I
[17:51] Speaker 1: also want to see the details on this. It could
[17:53] Speaker 1: just be a big one year raise and there's not
[17:55] Speaker 1: that much guaranteed money into twenty seven, which would make
[17:58] Speaker 1: a lot of sense for me. I haven't seen all
[18:00] Speaker 1: the guaranteed money, and so the devil's in the details
[18:03] Speaker 1: sometimes with these.
[18:03] Speaker 2: But do you think he's that good?
[18:05] Speaker 3: I think he's a blanket corner who has had some
[18:08] Speaker 3: concussion issues throughout his career, which has robbed him of
[18:11] Speaker 3: some opportunities to play. I think he is a top
[18:15] Speaker 3: tier corner, but I wouldn't necessarily call him quite an
[18:18] Speaker 3: elite elite corner. But we're also in this weird period
[18:21] Speaker 3: right now where like, if you look at the cornerback salaries,
[18:24] Speaker 3: McDuffie's a top it, Sauce garter behind it, Derek Stingley, J. C. Horn,
[18:27] Speaker 3: Jalen Ramsey, there's kind of room to justify moving him
[18:32] Speaker 3: to the top of that group because going on at
[18:34] Speaker 3: that point right now, where we just have that absolute
[18:36] Speaker 3: pats Er Tans, the absolute elite lockdown corner right He's
[18:39] Speaker 3: sixth in this list.
[18:40] Speaker 1: So I have a hard time believing like Denzel Ward
[18:43] Speaker 1: is worth as much as like a thirty million dollar
[18:45] Speaker 1: edge out there. These cornerbacks are getting paid, But I
[18:48] Speaker 1: get they have money to spend again, Yeah, so it's fair,
[18:50] Speaker 1: and they might spend it on Jadavian Clowney. By the
[18:53] Speaker 1: time you listen to this, he is visiting the team.
[18:56] Speaker 1: I also thought it was a notewhere the Harald Fan
[18:57] Speaker 1: in their second year tight end to his really good
[19:00] Speaker 1: as a rookie, revealed that he had groin surgery, which
[19:02] Speaker 1: the team had not revealed previously. But he was a
[19:05] Speaker 1: full go for first day of practice. So ultimately he
[19:08] Speaker 1: is back also at Browns, and I jumped in this
[19:10] Speaker 1: quick on Harold fannin release folks who expect him and
[19:16] Speaker 1: I could be wrong weeks months from now, folks who
[19:18] Speaker 1: expect him to take this massive leap forward, I would
[19:21] Speaker 1: temper your expectations because this is he's now tight end
[19:24] Speaker 1: one in a group that had David A.
[19:26] Speaker 3: Joeguin it last year. Different style of tight end. I
[19:29] Speaker 3: think he's going to be a key part of this offense.
[19:30] Speaker 3: But I just I want to temper the expectations of
[19:33] Speaker 3: them because I'm hearing it a lot, and I just
[19:35] Speaker 3: want you guys to get a little more realistic.
[19:36] Speaker 1: Well, especially in fantasy, where they're going to run the
[19:39] Speaker 1: ball a lot, where their quarterbacks are lackluster, and where
[19:44] Speaker 1: they're going to spread the ball out around like you're
[19:46] Speaker 1: going to hear it on our AFC North preview.
[19:48] Speaker 2: But they got to figure out that order.
[19:51] Speaker 1: They have actually four or five guys that can play
[19:53] Speaker 1: play some football, but it's a lot of mouse to feed.
[19:56] Speaker 1: Deshaun Watson struggling to feed mouse in terms of connecting
[20:00] Speaker 1: with his receivers. Picked off on back to back throws
[20:03] Speaker 1: on the first day trading camp.
[20:04] Speaker 2: You don't want that.
[20:05] Speaker 1: Vitavea is another guy holding in. Should have mentioned him.
[20:09] Speaker 1: We talked about his trade request, but he is not
[20:11] Speaker 1: practicing until he gets that gap or until they listen
[20:16] Speaker 1: to him and trade him. But they're calling him up.
[20:19] Speaker 1: They're calling it a back injury, a quote unquote back injury.
[20:22] Speaker 1: Tristan Wurfs though their left tackle is out right now
[20:24] Speaker 1: with the hamstring injury. A little more concerning Malik Neighbors
[20:27] Speaker 1: of the Giants, I mentioned not being on pup list
[20:30] Speaker 1: doesn't mean he's fully back. When Joe Shane the GM
[20:32] Speaker 1: talked on Wednesday, he mentioned, you know, Molik Neighbors is cutting,
[20:36] Speaker 1: he's doing individual drills. We will let his body kind
[20:40] Speaker 1: of dictate how this rehab goes. Doesn't mean he's gonna
[20:46] Speaker 1: be ready for Week one. Joe Shane was not, you know,
[20:48] Speaker 1: promising that by any means. So just just blow your
[20:52] Speaker 1: role a little bit. Fantasy football players out there, let's
[20:55] Speaker 1: go to Jerry Jones. I wanted to play you this
[20:56] Speaker 1: clip Nick Shook about him him talking about possibly shaking
[21:04] Speaker 1: up the team a little bit. It's almost like Jerry
[21:06] Speaker 1: doesn't like the lack of attention on the Cowboys and
[21:09] Speaker 1: he wants them.
[21:09] Speaker 6: Candidly, I'd be very interested. I'd give up future to
[21:13] Speaker 6: add substive to where we are today as to a player,
[21:17] Speaker 6: to give you an idea about what I invest something
[21:22] Speaker 6: substantive to get the right kind of deal to improve
[21:26] Speaker 6: us opening day. I would I feel that good about
[21:29] Speaker 6: this thing this year?
[21:30] Speaker 3: Conversations that are ongoing, or is that something Hey, let's
[21:33] Speaker 3: look at the first two weeks of camp and then
[21:35] Speaker 3: address to see if you want to put something.
[21:36] Speaker 6: Else talk to I talked to.
[21:39] Speaker 3: Yesterday.
[21:40] Speaker 6: I talked about a situation yesterday with another team and
[21:43] Speaker 6: another owner.
[21:45] Speaker 1: Jane Slater also had a question as part of this
[21:49] Speaker 1: back and forth where she literally asked if Max Crosby
[21:54] Speaker 1: might be someone that they would think about circling back to,
[21:58] Speaker 1: and for once, Jones was just silent. He had no
[22:03] Speaker 1: idea how to answer the question. And she said, like,
[22:09] Speaker 1: is that something that you just like kind of closed
[22:11] Speaker 1: the book on and he and he said, well, we didn't.
[22:14] Speaker 2: We didn't close the book on that.
[22:17] Speaker 1: And I was like, oh, you didn't close the book
[22:19] Speaker 1: on that. That's pretty interesting. And then he went into
[22:22] Speaker 1: this long spiel about we can't tamper. He's on another team.
[22:25] Speaker 1: This is literally tampering. As I'm talking right now, I'm tampering.
[22:30] Speaker 1: I found that combination of answers quite interesting, and I
[22:35] Speaker 1: think I would specifically relates to Max Crosby because he
[22:37] Speaker 1: talked about he would only do it for a substantive movie.
[22:41] Speaker 1: They're not looking to, you know, fix around the edges,
[22:43] Speaker 1: but they might take a big swing.
[22:45] Speaker 3: Okay, Okay, so this is this is a rare offseason
[22:49] Speaker 3: in which the Cowboys have not spent a lot of
[22:51] Speaker 3: time in the news cycle. They almost always dominate the
[22:54] Speaker 3: news cycle for one reason or another. The George Pickens
[22:57] Speaker 3: franchise tag and Flatley saying they're not going to any
[23:00] Speaker 3: an extension, he's gonna play on the tack and him
[23:01] Speaker 3: essentially agreeing and showing up for off these and activities
[23:04] Speaker 3: really took away any opportunity for us to you know,
[23:07] Speaker 3: circle the drain on the Cowboys or whatever you might
[23:10] Speaker 3: want to do it. But I love the idea of
[23:15] Speaker 3: entertaining a Max Crosby trade to get that news cycle
[23:17] Speaker 3: and that machine fired up again. You know, prime the
[23:20] Speaker 3: machine a couple of times, press that button, pull started.
[23:23] Speaker 3: But here's a better realistic opportunity. Okay, you take a
[23:27] Speaker 3: look at their death chart real quick. They're a little
[23:29] Speaker 3: thin defensively in one specific spot. I think they should
[23:33] Speaker 3: pick up the phone on Vitavea.
[23:35] Speaker 1: Oh that would be weird that you like, you trade
[23:38] Speaker 1: for Quinn Williams, then you trade away osi Osa, think
[23:41] Speaker 1: you do it, then you trade for Vienavea. It's just
[23:43] Speaker 1: like they're all over the place. But yes, he would
[23:45] Speaker 1: help them. They are a little thin next to Quinn Williams.
[23:50] Speaker 1: Why not guess it might pay Quinn Williams. Again, very
[23:54] Speaker 1: interesting back and forth for a team that everyone says
[23:56] Speaker 1: gets all the attention in the world. I was surprised
[23:58] Speaker 1: this didn't get more attention because Jerry was really like
[24:02] Speaker 1: hamanahamanahamana when she asked him about Mass Crosby, and I
[24:06] Speaker 1: was like, oh, is this a thing? I didn't even consider.
[24:08] Speaker 1: Max Crosby could still get traded. That would be crazy.
[24:11] Speaker 1: Clint Kubiak did confirm that Max Crosby is ready to go.
[24:15] Speaker 1: He's taken first team reps. He's at training camp. So
[24:18] Speaker 1: Max Crosby, you know, despite the injury that the Ravens
[24:21] Speaker 1: were worried about long term, in the short term, he's practicing.
[24:25] Speaker 1: Is he available, We'll find out. Brian Schottenheimer also broke
[24:28] Speaker 1: a little bit of news to start camp, saying that
[24:31] Speaker 1: Tyler Smith, their longtime guard, one of the best in
[24:33] Speaker 1: the league, paid highly, and one of your favorite interior players,
[24:38] Speaker 1: is another guard on that team, Tyler Booker. The two
[24:40] Speaker 1: Tylers are cross training. They're having Tyler Smith getting some
[24:44] Speaker 1: work at left tackle and your boy, Tyler Booker at center.
[24:49] Speaker 1: The fact that he volunteered this. I'm not even sure
[24:52] Speaker 1: if it was asked, but either way, he volunteered it
[24:55] Speaker 1: before they even got on the field. That training camp
[24:58] Speaker 1: is compelling to me. There they're moving things around and
[25:01] Speaker 1: like seeing what the best offensive line could be. This
[25:03] Speaker 1: is maybe only for offensive line nerds, but I find
[25:05] Speaker 1: it interesting two pretty premium players for them maybe changing positions.
[25:10] Speaker 3: I think there's always some value in cross training, especially
[25:12] Speaker 3: because most starting fives don't make it throw full season
[25:15] Speaker 3: healthy and together. I also think this is a sign
[25:17] Speaker 3: that they're pushing Tyler Guyton at left tackle and trying
[25:21] Speaker 3: to light a little bit of a fire under him
[25:22] Speaker 3: as they try to, you know, bolster this offensive line,
[25:25] Speaker 3: make it, make sure they're as good as possible. But
[25:27] Speaker 3: I think it's a little bit of both.
[25:29] Speaker 1: Of this Tyler and Tyler crime. You're saying right now,
[25:32] Speaker 1: there's three Tyler's up there. It's inevitable. It's tough when
[25:37] Speaker 1: when you've got that Tyler, you know, simbaiosis they actually
[25:42] Speaker 1: use the Tylers in terms of their their schedule release remember,
[25:45] Speaker 1: and then you have one Tyler going against another.
[25:47] Speaker 2: You hate it, You hate to see it.
[25:49] Speaker 3: There's a town named Tyler in Texas.
[25:52] Speaker 1: It's like when it's like when Serena and Venus had
[25:54] Speaker 1: to play each other in the Grand same final, and
[25:56] Speaker 1: that's hard for everyone.
[25:57] Speaker 2: You don't you don't want to see it.
[25:58] Speaker 1: Wrapping up the show, and thank you Shook for joining
[26:01] Speaker 1: us on this first news only camp show. My two
[26:05] Speaker 1: more of these, let us know what you think. Just
[26:07] Speaker 1: some nuggets. Jordan James, the backup running back for the
[26:10] Speaker 1: forty nine ers, fractured his rib, so he'll be out
[26:13] Speaker 1: for a little while. Opens the door for their draft
[26:15] Speaker 1: pick Kaylin Black to play a little Are you surprised,
[26:18] Speaker 1: Shook that Ricky Pearsall has concerning knee swelling after a
[26:22] Speaker 1: few days of camp.
[26:24] Speaker 3: No, and he said it was linked to the issue
[26:26] Speaker 3: that he dealt with last year. And I'm not surprised.
[26:28] Speaker 3: I'm sad because I just wanted to be fully healthy.
[26:32] Speaker 3: He was one of my players that I listed to
[26:34] Speaker 3: have to be better in twenty twenty six than they
[26:36] Speaker 3: were in twenty twenty five, because I thought, all right,
[26:38] Speaker 3: off season, get healthy. Mike Evan shows up, That attracts
[26:41] Speaker 3: a bit of attention away from you, opens up more opportunities.
[26:43] Speaker 3: Oh no, we have another health issue right away, healthy.
[26:47] Speaker 2: Right away, like he was one of the guys to
[26:49] Speaker 2: watch Mike.
[26:50] Speaker 3: Crazy, Am I crazy? Are we dealing with more health
[26:52] Speaker 3: issues at the start of camp this year than we
[26:54] Speaker 3: usually do?
[26:55] Speaker 1: Feels like a lot, and it's a lot for him specifically,
[26:59] Speaker 1: I let my self get excited the first three days
[27:01] Speaker 1: of camp. They're like, oh, Pearceall's clearly why, you know,
[27:03] Speaker 1: just looking awesome.
[27:04] Speaker 2: And he always looks awesome when he plays. That's not
[27:06] Speaker 2: the problem.
[27:07] Speaker 1: He just hasn't been able to stay healthy up by
[27:09] Speaker 1: that DeShawn dribbling stock take Dell not on the pup
[27:15] Speaker 1: list to start camp.
[27:15] Speaker 2: There's some good news for the Texans.
[27:17] Speaker 1: Love that Jalen Noel, who was a second round pick
[27:20] Speaker 1: for them a year ago, is out a couple of
[27:22] Speaker 1: weeks with an injury. He's on the pup list. But
[27:25] Speaker 1: they do have some depth that wide receiver Jonathan Grenard,
[27:28] Speaker 1: who the Eagles traded for is also on pup I
[27:32] Speaker 1: saw for the Chiefs Rashi Rice and Lagarious Sneed. Rashi
[27:35] Speaker 1: Rice at receiver and Lagarius Sneed, who's trying to, you know,
[27:38] Speaker 1: revive his career at cornerback. Right now, they're pretty limited
[27:41] Speaker 1: that's especially concerning for Rashi Rice. But it's early in camp.
[27:44] Speaker 1: They're just they're just ramping up, just like we are. Shook,
[27:48] Speaker 1: that's it, Yeah, just ramping up.
[27:50] Speaker 3: Indeed, I am so excited to hear Tank Dell and okay,
[27:54] Speaker 3: that's not on the pup. I am so excited to
[27:55] Speaker 3: see him wearing a helmet at camp. Saw clip of
[27:57] Speaker 3: him trotting out there today and this offense. Not to
[28:00] Speaker 3: put too much pressure on one player, but the fate
[28:04] Speaker 3: of the Texans passing game will rest heavily on Tank Dell. Oh,
[28:08] Speaker 3: if he can be healthy. I'm just saying that, not
[28:10] Speaker 3: that he's going to be the ultimate producer, but his
[28:12] Speaker 3: presence will matter to the passing game more than anybody else,
[28:15] Speaker 3: including Nico Collins. Because Tank Dell's on the field, Nico
[28:18] Speaker 3: Collins also out there, it's got more options.
[28:22] Speaker 1: It's a bold statement, and I hope you're right because
[28:25] Speaker 1: it hurt me that injury he had against the Chiefs
[28:28] Speaker 1: in a great game. Didn't hurt doing this. Look, if
[28:32] Speaker 1: you are watching us, you see that shook. He's wearing
[28:35] Speaker 1: that Pro Football Hall of Fame shirt. He's going to
[28:37] Speaker 1: be in Canton next week. He's going to be on
[28:38] Speaker 1: the show of course next week too. That's it for
[28:40] Speaker 1: the News Show. Next in your feed our AFC North
[28:44] Speaker 1: Preview will see them
