[0:05] Speaker 1: Well in the NFL Daily Patrick Claybourne here in the
[0:08] Speaker 1: Chris Westling podcast studio, all alone, because our fearless leader,
[0:14] Speaker 1: fresh off of Father's Day, the show Dad, Greg Rosenthal
[0:17] Speaker 1: is taking a much deserved vacation. So it is myself
[0:20] Speaker 1: and Nick Shook in his streaming venue at his home
[0:24] Speaker 1: in his casa right here, Shook, what's up man?
[0:27] Speaker 2: I love that you called Greg the show dad. That's fantastic.
[0:30] Speaker 2: I never thought about it like that, but you're right.
[0:32] Speaker 2: Father's Day.
[0:33] Speaker 1: Yeah, Happy belated to Father's Day to our show dad,
[0:36] Speaker 1: Greg Rosenthal. Who if you're listening to this Greg on
[0:39] Speaker 1: your vacation, don't like stop step away from the football
[0:44] Speaker 1: where the football tender is cutting off Greg Rosenthal because
[0:47] Speaker 1: he frankly needs to be and shog. This time of
[0:51] Speaker 1: year can be won where there's slight news. But we
[0:55] Speaker 1: did get a little bit of news today that we
[0:57] Speaker 1: can share with the people. Congratulations to Jeffrey Simmons over
[1:01] Speaker 1: the weekend signing a deal that his agent would like
[1:03] Speaker 1: everybody to know. Shook is the biggest deal in NFL
[1:07] Speaker 1: history for a defensive tackle three years, up to one
[1:10] Speaker 1: hundred and five million dollars one hundred million of that guaranteed.
[1:15] Speaker 2: Yeah, and it's tacking on to a deal that already
[1:18] Speaker 2: you know, it was still existing, had a couple more
[1:19] Speaker 2: years left to it.
[1:20] Speaker 3: So it's it's well deserved, well.
[1:22] Speaker 2: Earned on the part of Jeffrey Simmons, a player who
[1:24] Speaker 2: I think is routinely overlooked, not overrated, but overlooked, pretty
[1:29] Speaker 2: underrated unless you spend a lot of time paying attention
[1:31] Speaker 2: to the Tennessee Titans, which if you haven't over the
[1:33] Speaker 2: last few years, I understand why. But if you want to,
[1:35] Speaker 2: you know, try to understand exactly why he got this money,
[1:38] Speaker 2: and you go look at his stats and you say, well,
[1:39] Speaker 2: you know, he didn't make his first All Pro team
[1:41] Speaker 2: until this year. That was overdue. All you got to
[1:44] Speaker 2: do is cut on the tape play by play. Few
[1:46] Speaker 2: players make more of an impact on a defense than
[1:49] Speaker 2: Jeffrey Simmons does. He's just a relentless, game wrecking type
[1:52] Speaker 2: of player who makes everybody around him better. And I
[1:54] Speaker 2: know sounds kind of crazy coming from a defensive tackle,
[1:57] Speaker 2: but I'm telling you right now, you watch him, He's
[1:58] Speaker 2: one of my favorite players to watch a weekly basis.
[2:00] Speaker 2: You can find him on the tape wherever because he's
[2:02] Speaker 2: usually wearing those that red sleeve or something, and if
[2:05] Speaker 2: you don't see the red sleeve, you're just gonna see
[2:06] Speaker 2: the hulking mass that is Jeffrey Simmons causing problems for
[2:09] Speaker 2: opposing offenses. So definitely a deserved contract and congratulations Dan.
[2:13] Speaker 1: Also those moments in Jeffery Simmons career where he's caused
[2:16] Speaker 1: problems for opposing defenses as well, just a pure playmaker.
[2:21] Speaker 1: Where again we're in this situation. The Tennessee Titans had
[2:25] Speaker 1: the number one overall pick. They had the number one
[2:26] Speaker 1: overall pick. We did not discuss cam Ward and as
[2:29] Speaker 1: I say we collectively as a football media apparatus, he
[2:33] Speaker 1: has an entire rookie season, a lot of it's great,
[2:35] Speaker 1: he has multiple Thrower of the Year candidates, and the
[2:40] Speaker 1: Nashville of it all kind of gets lost. But shout
[2:42] Speaker 1: out to the Tennessee Titans, shout out to Jeffrey Simmons.
[2:46] Speaker 1: A fun team where we get to see what the
[2:49] Speaker 1: day ball and Giants' influence is going to be, what
[2:52] Speaker 1: the influence of Bob Sola's belief all seed oils is
[2:55] Speaker 1: ultimately going to be. It's a fun off season with
[2:59] Speaker 1: sprinkled in with some udo science. Are excited shook for
[3:02] Speaker 1: just what the Titans are going to do here in
[3:04] Speaker 1: twenty twenty six.
[3:05] Speaker 2: Look as somebody who has transitioned to using avocado oil
[3:08] Speaker 2: when I cook, I can get on.
[3:10] Speaker 3: Board with this.
[3:10] Speaker 2: I also like the fact that that Jeffery Simmons fits
[3:13] Speaker 2: the solid mold when it comes to building his defense.
[3:15] Speaker 2: He's always got a game wrecking defensive tackle. It was
[3:17] Speaker 2: either Quinn Williams. It was back in the day, it
[3:19] Speaker 2: was Deforce Buckner with the forty nine ers. After that
[3:21] Speaker 2: it was Eric Armstead. Now it's Jeffrey Simmons. So it
[3:24] Speaker 2: makes a ton of sense. Look, you're right, there's a
[3:26] Speaker 2: lot of intrigue with this Titans team because of the
[3:28] Speaker 2: new staff, because of the change and the defensive identity,
[3:31] Speaker 2: and also because of cam Ward. Oh and then by
[3:33] Speaker 2: the way, they just decided, you know, to listen to
[3:35] Speaker 2: the claims from Houston about them wanting the Oilers colors back,
[3:38] Speaker 2: and they're like, no, those are ours, and in fact,
[3:39] Speaker 2: we're going to go all in and just change our
[3:41] Speaker 2: uniforms to straight Oilers colors and just kind of.
[3:43] Speaker 3: Thumb our nose at you.
[3:44] Speaker 2: So Titans on the revenge path with some big money
[3:47] Speaker 2: to the defensive tackle.
[3:48] Speaker 1: Yeah. And also there's there's fossil fuels there in the
[3:52] Speaker 1: in the Tennessee Mountains, there's there's access to why not
[3:56] Speaker 1: just just go ahead and do the whole thing we
[3:59] Speaker 1: all enjoy Yeah, alliteration. But at a certain point, if
[4:03] Speaker 1: you're gonna keepumbing your notes that the people, the people
[4:05] Speaker 1: in Texas, just just go ahead and put that Derek
[4:08] Speaker 1: on the helmets and bring the whole thing back, if
[4:11] Speaker 1: you know, because because the Derek in the helmet you
[4:13] Speaker 1: decided to let go and he's playing it ball the
[4:15] Speaker 1: fort and they enjoy him.
[4:15] Speaker 2: Ooh, Now that that is why you are a top
[4:18] Speaker 2: tier host right there.
[4:19] Speaker 1: Stop stop it. Speaking of top tier, I like music.
[4:25] Speaker 1: I set out with a task almost every show. Any
[4:29] Speaker 1: idea involves me having Eric make something. He went shook
[4:33] Speaker 1: above and beyond uh with our idea here for NFL
[4:38] Speaker 1: Unsolved off season mysteries. Because those of us born in
[4:42] Speaker 1: the eighties in the nineties remember Robert Flack in a
[4:47] Speaker 1: trench coat standing for some reason in the rain talking
[4:50] Speaker 1: about Unsolved. And there's a lot of questions that we
[4:53] Speaker 1: have here in the off season that are frankly unsolved mysteries.
[4:57] Speaker 1: And so we have collectively assembled these unsolved mysteries, and
[5:02] Speaker 1: I will go first show with mine to it unsolved
[5:06] Speaker 1: mystery some you know, because we have questions that need answer.
[5:13] Speaker 1: On a quiet June Monday morning, near an office park
[5:16] Speaker 1: in Santa Clara, an aging roster takes mini camp off
[5:19] Speaker 1: as there's no reason to do it also while avoiding
[5:22] Speaker 1: to pay. Brandon Ayuk, a cap expert, walks through the
[5:25] Speaker 1: copy room and prints a piece of paper. He navigates
[5:28] Speaker 1: the walls of the em shielded complex to the wall
[5:31] Speaker 1: in his office and ties a thread to a new
[5:34] Speaker 1: piece of paper, attaching it to the wall, all adding
[5:37] Speaker 1: up to a question, seventy one million dollars in cap space.
[5:42] Speaker 1: The camera pulls out reveal what the thread spells. Why,
[5:47] Speaker 1: Nick Shuk, why does a team and win now mode
[5:51] Speaker 1: in a very competitive division in June have seventy one
[5:55] Speaker 1: million dollars in cap space?
[5:57] Speaker 2: With all due respect to the great Pepe Sylvia Conspiracy
[6:01] Speaker 2: from Always Sunny in Philadelphia, this one is absolutely mystifying.
[6:05] Speaker 2: Why do they have all of this cap space? Why
[6:07] Speaker 2: are they still you know, sitting on all of this
[6:10] Speaker 2: money when they could you know, make their team better.
[6:12] Speaker 2: And the first thing I could think of, and this
[6:14] Speaker 2: is gonna sound crazy, is just the fact that you
[6:16] Speaker 2: can roll that cap space over next year, So why
[6:18] Speaker 2: not have enough you know, cap space available right now.
[6:21] Speaker 2: It also makes me wonder why have they not moved
[6:25] Speaker 2: on from the whole brandon Au situation. Are they going
[6:28] Speaker 2: to sit on this situation and wait for somebody to
[6:31] Speaker 2: make a call that they're never going to call to
[6:32] Speaker 2: try to acquire him?
[6:34] Speaker 3: What is going on?
[6:35] Speaker 2: Is the electromagnetic impact on the practice field a real
[6:39] Speaker 2: thing or not? Yeah, this is actually, honestly outside of
[6:41] Speaker 2: the you know, the idea of making you know, leaving
[6:43] Speaker 2: room for rollover cap and just kind of building on
[6:45] Speaker 2: your riches going forward kind of doesn't make a lot
[6:47] Speaker 2: of sense other than the fact that, like the way
[6:49] Speaker 2: that they've constructed their roster over the last few years,
[6:51] Speaker 2: they've they've hit on some of their draft picks and
[6:53] Speaker 2: they've been a team that's you know, not afraid to
[6:55] Speaker 2: pay certain guys let other guys go. I mean, I
[6:58] Speaker 2: think about like the Ricky piersoll of it all. It's like, well,
[7:00] Speaker 2: you know, receiver wise, we wint got Mike Evans, this year,
[7:02] Speaker 2: but we also had Peers all there and he was
[7:04] Speaker 2: going to be probably going to be our number one,
[7:06] Speaker 2: you know going into this year. If they hadn't signed
[7:08] Speaker 2: Mike Evans, they let Juwan Jennings go. It's just a
[7:10] Speaker 2: team that I think consistently kind of turns over it's
[7:12] Speaker 2: cap and roster and tries to stay as you know,
[7:15] Speaker 2: competitive as possible. I'm just worried about injuries more than anything.
[7:17] Speaker 2: But this is still cap space wise a mystery to me.
[7:20] Speaker 3: So what do you have? What answer do you have
[7:22] Speaker 3: as you wear your trench coat.
[7:23] Speaker 1: In the rain? Well, I honestly think about the overall
[7:27] Speaker 1: questions for the strategy because when you can roll over things,
[7:31] Speaker 1: and they have rolled over a lot of cap space
[7:32] Speaker 1: in the past, and they use it to do things
[7:35] Speaker 1: like fix that Trent Williams contract. But eventually the foundation
[7:38] Speaker 1: of your team, which is aging superstars like Trent, like CMC,
[7:42] Speaker 1: like Kyle Huschek, You've already paid brock Party. Eventually, it's
[7:46] Speaker 1: like the delay in dynasty drafting and fantasy football. Eventually
[7:51] Speaker 1: you would like to have a team that particular season
[7:54] Speaker 1: that is making the quest and not to diminish the
[7:57] Speaker 1: efforts that they've done to build this particular football team,
[8:00] Speaker 1: and Mike Evans, I think is a great addition, but
[8:02] Speaker 1: there's a lot of things that they could still do
[8:05] Speaker 1: and I think it would be a big time miss.
[8:07] Speaker 1: Now you spoke about Brandon Ayuk, and I think that's
[8:09] Speaker 1: a wonderful question that I would also like to ask,
[8:12] Speaker 1: because you go back to twenty twenty five, because you
[8:14] Speaker 1: want folks to play along and have great relationships. Taking
[8:18] Speaker 1: twenty seven million dollars from someone, albeit may not be
[8:21] Speaker 1: the best way to maintain lines of communication. And I
[8:24] Speaker 1: would like to know when they initially decided that taking
[8:29] Speaker 1: that guaranteed money, which why did we call it guaranteed?
[8:32] Speaker 1: I have no idea, but taking that guaranteed money from
[8:35] Speaker 1: Brandon Ayuk, at what point was that communicated to him
[8:39] Speaker 1: in that process and decision making? And when did the
[8:41] Speaker 1: forty nine ers decide that they would have liked out
[8:43] Speaker 1: of that contract and could maybe submarining that relationship be
[8:48] Speaker 1: a method towards doing that, But it saved a ton
[8:50] Speaker 1: of money. I just I hope that the forty nine
[8:53] Speaker 1: ers have a plan to use it because there's a
[8:55] Speaker 1: lot of people that like the forty nine ers and
[8:56] Speaker 1: they would like to see them be successful.
[8:58] Speaker 2: Yeah, of course, and you know, maybe some of that
[9:00] Speaker 2: space is reserved for dealing with the fallout that comes
[9:03] Speaker 2: from this eventually. I'm not sure, but that, like the
[9:06] Speaker 2: IYUK situation itself, is such a great mystery now, Like
[9:09] Speaker 2: if you look at you know, their current situation, like
[9:11] Speaker 2: a post June first cap cut which we're now at
[9:14] Speaker 2: June twenty second, is only going to cost them seven
[9:16] Speaker 2: point three million dollars this year. Because it's the post juniversity,
[9:19] Speaker 2: he can split it over multiple years, right, so it's
[9:21] Speaker 2: not like they're putting away a ton of money for that.
[9:22] Speaker 2: But the greater mystery is just like what happened? And
[9:24] Speaker 2: I think this is something that even they can't understand
[9:27] Speaker 2: as of this point. And I can solve one thing,
[9:29] Speaker 2: which is that at what point did they decide that they,
[9:32] Speaker 2: you know, wanted to submarine that relationship, Probably when, as
[9:35] Speaker 2: they said, he stopped showing up, you know, for rehab
[9:37] Speaker 2: and everything else. And that's their account on this whole thing.
[9:41] Speaker 2: We'll probably never know for quite some time. But until then,
[9:43] Speaker 2: it's just one of those lingering things that it's like,
[9:46] Speaker 2: why can't we solve this already?
[9:47] Speaker 3: But then again, that's why this is Unsolved Mysteries.
[9:50] Speaker 1: Yeah, the biggest issue was the devastating knee injury that
[9:53] Speaker 1: Brandon Ayuk Cornder went And much like a lot of
[9:57] Speaker 1: discussion around AJ Brown in Philadelphia was about his relationships
[10:00] Speaker 1: and all these other things, there's really opportunity for the
[10:03] Speaker 1: Eagles to get exactly what they spent in value to
[10:05] Speaker 1: acquire AJ Brown in return for AJ Brown going to
[10:09] Speaker 1: the Patriots. It's so like there's a lot of other
[10:11] Speaker 1: stuff how that comes in. But the team being able
[10:14] Speaker 1: to kind of get out of a deal that they
[10:16] Speaker 1: didn't necessarily want to be in in the first place,
[10:19] Speaker 1: I think leans heavily into that. So we'll leave that
[10:22] Speaker 1: up to the mystery solvers in Santa Clair. They broke
[10:24] Speaker 1: down em radiation so they'll be able to get to
[10:29] Speaker 1: the bottle of this.
[10:30] Speaker 2: I mean, look, one way or another, it's a win
[10:32] Speaker 2: for science, right, run that music europe Ship all Right,
[10:37] Speaker 2: here we go. So I want to tell you first,
[10:40] Speaker 2: I actually pulled up an all episode of Unsolved Mysteries
[10:42] Speaker 2: because I wanted to get fully into character.
[10:44] Speaker 3: Here's my best.
[10:45] Speaker 2: Robert Stack, a legendary defender, disappeared from the game nearly
[10:50] Speaker 2: three years ago, but rumors of his return have picked
[10:53] Speaker 2: up in recent weeks. A new hero, zach Master Miles Garrett,
[10:58] Speaker 2: has arrived in Los Angeles, potential lighting the beacons for
[11:01] Speaker 2: Aaron Donald to ride back into town.
[11:04] Speaker 3: Would this icon find the spark to.
[11:06] Speaker 2: Light his fire and form the most fearsome duo in football?
[11:12] Speaker 3: Tonight on Unsolved Mysteries.
[11:16] Speaker 1: Perfect, I see stack, I see the crane shots back
[11:20] Speaker 1: when you know cable I mean free oh, the over
[11:24] Speaker 1: the air television used to spend money on serialized TV shows,
[11:28] Speaker 1: even even like reenactment shows like this. It's perfect. It
[11:33] Speaker 1: sets the mood.
[11:34] Speaker 2: It sets me by the way the production efforts that
[11:37] Speaker 2: they went to to reenact these things are insane, Like
[11:39] Speaker 2: just watch it.
[11:40] Speaker 3: I was like, my god.
[11:41] Speaker 2: They filmed them going to the cemetery and exooming this
[11:43] Speaker 2: body three times.
[11:45] Speaker 3: What's going on?
[11:46] Speaker 1: And there were multiple takes. It's not like now where
[11:48] Speaker 1: it's just like I'll leave it in, you know, we'll
[11:50] Speaker 1: fix it and post like you could tell there was
[11:52] Speaker 1: care and energy because we used to be you know,
[11:56] Speaker 1: a proper place.
[11:57] Speaker 3: Hi.
[11:58] Speaker 1: We used to shook this. This one. This one's tough
[12:01] Speaker 1: for me because I think Aaron loves to have fun.
[12:05] Speaker 1: I don't think I don't think he wants to squash this,
[12:08] Speaker 1: and I think it will remain unsolved until there's this
[12:12] Speaker 1: inflection point late in the season where it's like, guys,
[12:16] Speaker 1: even even with Miles Garrett and Braden Fisk, like even
[12:19] Speaker 1: with the way this defense is murdering people right now,
[12:23] Speaker 1: they can't rush the passer and they put that signal
[12:25] Speaker 1: up in the sky, like I think it's gonna take that.
[12:29] Speaker 1: It's just tough for me to see Aaron Donald saying
[12:32] Speaker 1: before the football season, like driving around and is Lambeau
[12:36] Speaker 1: over there on the west side that like, yeah, I
[12:39] Speaker 1: want to I want to put my body through that,
[12:41] Speaker 1: Like his body's looking great and feeling great right now.
[12:43] Speaker 1: It's just tough for me to imagine.
[12:45] Speaker 2: Well, it's funny because you know, you mentioned that he
[12:47] Speaker 2: likes to have fun. I think he likes to have
[12:48] Speaker 2: fun with all of us by just like kind of
[12:50] Speaker 2: flirting with the idea of coming back, by posting Instagram
[12:52] Speaker 2: captains and just say like always ready or something along
[12:55] Speaker 2: those lines, By having Jared Verse come work out with
[12:57] Speaker 2: him and then putting him through hell just to like
[12:59] Speaker 2: send them Is that, yeah, I'm still demand even though
[13:01] Speaker 2: I'm retired, I'm still the man. But I also think
[13:04] Speaker 2: that he would find a lot of fun in being
[13:07] Speaker 2: with the Rams. It's just a matter of win, and
[13:09] Speaker 2: I think your inflection point example really works well. But
[13:11] Speaker 2: I also see a situation in which the momentum builds
[13:14] Speaker 2: for this team, Like I'm getting a if. I hate
[13:17] Speaker 2: to say it, but if Sports Illustrated covers really carried
[13:19] Speaker 2: the same weight that they used to the Rams are
[13:21] Speaker 2: on it with Super Bowl, you know, dreams and aspirations,
[13:24] Speaker 2: and he sees that that's not like around the start
[13:27] Speaker 2: of training camp, that's their season, pree edition or whatever, right,
[13:30] Speaker 2: And then they go through training camp and then we
[13:31] Speaker 2: get the Michael Strahan approach, which is that like I'm
[13:33] Speaker 2: just gonna wait until the end of camp and then
[13:35] Speaker 2: I'm gonna come back.
[13:36] Speaker 3: And I think this is a guy who could totally
[13:38] Speaker 3: do it.
[13:39] Speaker 2: It's just a matter of if he hasn't played football
[13:40] Speaker 2: since twenty twenty three, does he want to do it.
[13:43] Speaker 2: We all probably felt like he retired a little bit early.
[13:45] Speaker 2: I mean, there was a period where he almost could
[13:47] Speaker 2: have retired right after winning the Super Bowl, But what
[13:49] Speaker 2: better time for you to come back and give it
[13:51] Speaker 2: one more shot or at least test the will, like
[13:53] Speaker 2: you said, gotta find the fire to play again. Then
[13:56] Speaker 2: with this team right now when they are clearly all
[13:58] Speaker 2: in and they are dealing with the onto two year
[14:00] Speaker 2: window of trying to go after a Super Bowl because
[14:02] Speaker 2: of you know where Matthew Stafford is right now. I
[14:04] Speaker 2: just think that the the addition of Miles Garrett made
[14:06] Speaker 2: a lot of sense for you know, people thinking like, oh,
[14:08] Speaker 2: is he gonna undertire? And I think it's a fun
[14:10] Speaker 2: thing for us to talk about, But I also believe
[14:12] Speaker 2: that there is some legit smoke to this fire, and
[14:15] Speaker 2: we're not gonna see it really solved or resolved until
[14:19] Speaker 2: late August at the earliest.
[14:21] Speaker 1: Yeah. You mentioned his Instagram and I'm looking at it
[14:23] Speaker 1: right now. He's on this shopping trip with his daughters.
[14:26] Speaker 1: It's sponsored, uh, you know, by by a brand that
[14:30] Speaker 1: producers clothing. You know, I gotta be extra safe with
[14:32] Speaker 1: branding and sugar. We don't even know how. Yeah, And
[14:35] Speaker 1: so the comments, every single one of the comments is like, yeah,
[14:40] Speaker 1: you know your daughter's everything's going great? Is she gonna
[14:43] Speaker 1: get a Rams jersey?
[14:45] Speaker 2: Like?
[14:45] Speaker 1: Uh, y'all are Hey, love this, whisper to your dad,
[14:49] Speaker 1: I wont another super Bowl. It's there's a lot of
[14:53] Speaker 1: energy and attention that gets devoted, uh to this. And
[14:57] Speaker 1: you mentioned, you know, back in the day also May,
[15:00] Speaker 1: when Unsolved Mysteries was on the air, when that Sports
[15:02] Speaker 1: Illustrated cover meant something, I think we yeah, again, we
[15:07] Speaker 1: built to that point where we get like a ten
[15:09] Speaker 1: and oer team, and there's questions floating about like could
[15:13] Speaker 1: the Rams do this and then go unbeaten? Like it
[15:15] Speaker 1: takes that drum beat and the you know, we saw
[15:18] Speaker 1: the drum beat in New York that the Knicks got
[15:20] Speaker 1: to a championship. If if the Rams are pushing towards history,
[15:24] Speaker 1: then I think you've got a more viable case for
[15:27] Speaker 1: Aaron Donald to go back in that building over there
[15:29] Speaker 1: and win another Super Bowl.
[15:30] Speaker 3: Yeah.
[15:30] Speaker 2: And you know, I like that idea because I feel
[15:32] Speaker 2: like this was something that I don't know, maybe this
[15:35] Speaker 2: is just like nostalgia kicking in here, but I feel
[15:37] Speaker 2: like when Peyton Manning and the Colts were like at
[15:40] Speaker 2: their peak, there was there were multiple seasons in which
[15:42] Speaker 2: they went like twelve or thirteen or oh, and the
[15:44] Speaker 2: talk was like could the Colts go undefeated. Obviously the
[15:47] Speaker 2: Patriots we undfeated until they lost in the Super Bowl,
[15:49] Speaker 2: but it felt like that was an almost annual conversation
[15:51] Speaker 2: where it was like, could this team really go undefeated?
[15:53] Speaker 2: And I don't think we've had that for the last
[15:55] Speaker 2: four or five years. The Colts kind of flirted with
[15:58] Speaker 2: it until you know, things kind of fell up part
[16:00] Speaker 2: for them this year. But it doesn't really like it
[16:04] Speaker 2: makes a lot of sense that this would be the
[16:05] Speaker 2: team to reopen that and then for that to be
[16:07] Speaker 2: the right time for Aaron Donald to consider coming back.
[16:10] Speaker 2: I just think it would be fun. It's just one
[16:12] Speaker 2: of those things that we just haven't been able to
[16:13] Speaker 2: track in the last few years. That would be very fun.
[16:15] Speaker 1: And the parallels, right, having two all time greats on
[16:18] Speaker 1: that Patriots offense and Tom Brady and Randon and Randy Moss,
[16:23] Speaker 1: and to think about two of the all time greats
[16:25] Speaker 1: being on this hypothetical Rams defense. It will be fun.
[16:28] Speaker 1: It would be a fun story.
[16:29] Speaker 3: Defense would be back.
[16:31] Speaker 1: We did it. We've restored defense in the NFL. All right,
[16:36] Speaker 1: let's do it. I can't. I can't. I can't do
[16:41] Speaker 1: it as well as you. Right, A forty one year
[16:45] Speaker 1: old Ian Cunningham bolts out of bed. He'd just gotten
[16:48] Speaker 1: this job after navigating a sea of consultants, but the
[16:51] Speaker 1: consultants have abandoned him. In this time of need. This
[16:54] Speaker 1: young man with a bachelor's degree in psychology knew what
[16:57] Speaker 1: to say and when to say it. Now he needs
[16:59] Speaker 1: to know what to pay and when to pay it.
[17:02] Speaker 1: As he frets, Brad Holmes waits seven hundred miles away.
[17:06] Speaker 1: He's older, with more success. He knows there's a top
[17:09] Speaker 1: dollar running back to be paid in Atlanta and in Detroit.
[17:13] Speaker 1: He knows he has the power and a nation of
[17:15] Speaker 1: people waiting for the position to be brought back to
[17:18] Speaker 1: the financial position it was in long ago. And he wonders,
[17:22] Speaker 1: as we do, who pays first, who gets their money?
[17:27] Speaker 1: Shook Bijean word Jamir Hm.
[17:30] Speaker 2: I love this because I love the idea of a
[17:31] Speaker 2: standoff between two gms across the country. That's the first
[17:35] Speaker 2: adversarial situation that I'm really into right now. The answer
[17:41] Speaker 2: really lies in the details and the details of be
[17:42] Speaker 2: in the salar cap situation. If you look at the
[17:44] Speaker 2: Lions for next year, they're projected to have roughly forty
[17:47] Speaker 2: seven points, says forty eight million in available caspaces according
[17:50] Speaker 2: to over the Cap. You go over to the Falcons, Look,
[17:53] Speaker 2: we know what they did at quarterback, right, we know
[17:55] Speaker 2: that they are in a bit of a flux situation
[17:57] Speaker 2: at that position. But that's also allowed them to have
[17:59] Speaker 2: over one hundred and ten million dollars in available cap
[18:02] Speaker 2: space next year according to over the Cap. So I
[18:05] Speaker 2: think that the first player that gets paid is probably
[18:07] Speaker 2: be Jean Robinson. Now, if you look at their their career,
[18:10] Speaker 2: you know where they are on their career path. It
[18:13] Speaker 2: if you think about, all right, so who came to
[18:15] Speaker 2: relevance first, who rows into the spotlight first? Well, you're
[18:18] Speaker 2: going to go with probably Jimior Gibbs because of the Lions,
[18:21] Speaker 2: you know longer, you know history of success in recent years.
[18:25] Speaker 2: He could also say the same thing about Brad Holmes.
[18:27] Speaker 2: Like you mentioned, he's older, he's wiser. But I feel
[18:29] Speaker 2: like if there's one team that needs to score a
[18:31] Speaker 2: big win and this team could have that situation on
[18:34] Speaker 2: their hands this year, it's not going to be the
[18:36] Speaker 2: Detroit Lions. When it comes to off the field stuff,
[18:38] Speaker 2: it's going to be the Atlanta Falcons. Because I think
[18:39] Speaker 2: the Lions will bounce back and be fine, and the
[18:40] Speaker 2: Falcons could be competitive and everything, but it just makes
[18:43] Speaker 2: more sense to pay one of the best players in
[18:45] Speaker 2: football in my opinion, in Bjhon Robinson. So I'm going
[18:47] Speaker 2: to pay him first because I got more money to
[18:49] Speaker 2: work with next year. I can front load this deal.
[18:51] Speaker 3: I can.
[18:52] Speaker 2: You know, I don't have to stretch the money out
[18:53] Speaker 2: into future years like the Lions might have to with Gibbs.
[18:56] Speaker 2: Let's pay Bjon first, not because he's my favorite running
[18:59] Speaker 2: back between to but because the finances just make the
[19:02] Speaker 2: most sense.
[19:03] Speaker 1: And to be perfectly honest, you save money by paying
[19:05] Speaker 1: him first because of this situation exactly, and like considering
[19:09] Speaker 1: the financial constraints that Brad Holmes is in on a
[19:12] Speaker 1: team that's been historically more successful, which is wild to
[19:15] Speaker 1: say because we're talking Lions and falconsy or but recently,
[19:18] Speaker 1: like the historical success generally favors the Detroit Lions. And
[19:22] Speaker 1: as you said, this is not a commentary on which
[19:25] Speaker 1: one of these football players is best, because breaking news,
[19:28] Speaker 1: they're both spectacular. Both of these offenses would wilt and
[19:32] Speaker 1: fall apart without them. I would make the case the
[19:34] Speaker 1: Falcons rely more on Bajan than anybody else. And that's
[19:37] Speaker 1: not just like saying that Bajan is a better football player.
[19:41] Speaker 1: It's about everything that's around him. And he's had that
[19:43] Speaker 1: success despite all that. So I just wonder again, as
[19:47] Speaker 1: this army of consultants brought all these people to Atlanta
[19:50] Speaker 1: and Flowery Branch, was this a part of those conversations?
[19:55] Speaker 1: And why wait? Why wait when potentially Brad Holmes could
[20:00] Speaker 1: could wake up do some chicnry with the numbers. He
[20:03] Speaker 1: has the full faith and support of the Ford family
[20:06] Speaker 1: and the people of Detroit. Get a deal done. That's
[20:09] Speaker 1: only gonna cost the Falcons more. It's only going to
[20:11] Speaker 1: cost Atlanta more. Yeah.
[20:13] Speaker 2: Absolutely, And while they might have the luxury of being
[20:16] Speaker 2: able to wait because of the effective CAS space that's
[20:18] Speaker 2: gonna be available them in the future years good you know,
[20:20] Speaker 2: smart businesses do it sooner rather than later. I think
[20:22] Speaker 2: that we're gonna get closer to Jamiir being relied upon
[20:27] Speaker 2: about as much as Beijon this year, because he is
[20:29] Speaker 2: now clearly the bellcow in Detroit, which he'd been, you know,
[20:32] Speaker 2: part of a two headed backfield over the last couple
[20:34] Speaker 2: of years. It became more of a Jamir gives backfield
[20:36] Speaker 2: last year, which is why the Lions moved on from
[20:38] Speaker 2: David Montgomery. But that also gives you incentive to pay
[20:41] Speaker 2: him before that happens. So it is kind of a
[20:43] Speaker 2: race against time. But like we know, Bijon is like
[20:46] Speaker 2: the lynchpin of the Falcons offense. You cannot go. It
[20:49] Speaker 2: all falls apart without him. But now or now Jamir
[20:53] Speaker 2: is kind of going to move into that role too,
[20:55] Speaker 2: So you're right, sets of a really good race against time.
[20:57] Speaker 2: And like you said, the market's only going to increase
[20:59] Speaker 2: once one guy gets it's.
[21:00] Speaker 1: Paid yesterday's price, not today's price. The official position of
[21:04] Speaker 1: this program, I will say without Greg here, even though
[21:07] Speaker 1: he would echo my sentiments. They both they both deserve
[21:10] Speaker 1: to be compensated handsomely. But yeah, Shook and I both agree. Good,
[21:15] Speaker 1: you know, Ian, let's slid it across the table.
[21:19] Speaker 3: Man, how good? How good is president of football?
[21:21] Speaker 1: Meant?
[21:22] Speaker 2: What were his math courses like at Boston College? That's
[21:24] Speaker 2: what I want to know.
[21:25] Speaker 1: Well, it's the psychology thing because it worked on the consultants, right,
[21:29] Speaker 1: So let's let's use that. We'll hit up the agent.
[21:33] Speaker 1: Jean has already done one season of you know great, Uh,
[21:38] Speaker 1: television for you guys may not be familiar, uh, you know,
[21:42] Speaker 1: with with the Pogue life as we as we look
[21:45] Speaker 1: over uh to just one of the the the greatest shows,
[21:49] Speaker 1: uh in television history, which my for some reason, I'm
[21:54] Speaker 1: blanking on Outer Banks, which I've seen every single episode of.
[21:58] Speaker 3: It's a great It doesn't surprise me at all.
[22:00] Speaker 1: Yeah, he played a pirate, you know, and they play
[22:03] Speaker 1: the Buccaneers twice a year. So good luck to Jean Robinson,
[22:06] Speaker 1: Engemier Gibbs. Let's get our next mystery, all right.
[22:12] Speaker 2: A top pick has seen it all in his NFL career,
[22:15] Speaker 2: a coaching change, a benching, a fortunate return to action,
[22:21] Speaker 2: a career best performance followed by a dreadful showing on
[22:25] Speaker 2: the national stage, and a division title one despite losing
[22:29] Speaker 2: the regular season finale. None of it has produced a
[22:32] Speaker 2: clear conclusion on his future. Is Bryce Young the answer
[22:36] Speaker 2: in Carolina or not? And can he finally answered this
[22:40] Speaker 2: question in twenty twenty six?
[22:44] Speaker 1: Yes? My first answer because there's so many parallels sick
[22:50] Speaker 1: and I hate to do it. I hate to because
[22:51] Speaker 1: you know, this is not about height supremacy. Is shook
[22:55] Speaker 1: and I both are at and shook. Well, above six
[22:59] Speaker 1: feet tall. The standards for how tall a quarterback should
[23:03] Speaker 1: be do not favor folks like Bryce Young. But I
[23:07] Speaker 1: will point to another quarterback that played in the NFC South,
[23:10] Speaker 1: and again it's a player comp and it's unfortunate because
[23:12] Speaker 1: he wears the same number as Bryce Young. But there
[23:14] Speaker 1: was a moment where the Los Angeles Chargers made a choice,
[23:18] Speaker 1: and this was after a devastating shoulder injury for Drew Brees.
[23:21] Speaker 1: I completely understand the idea of not making a collective
[23:24] Speaker 1: investment that also Nick Saban didn't invest in which led
[23:28] Speaker 1: to him becoming the head coach of the University of Alabama,
[23:31] Speaker 1: Dante Culpepper going to Miami, and yes, Drew Brees going
[23:34] Speaker 1: to New Orleans. The Panthers could be in a situation
[23:37] Speaker 1: shook where if they do, and it's always regrettable if
[23:40] Speaker 1: you do give up on Bryce Young, he finds a
[23:43] Speaker 1: place where he's able to be successful in a different offense,
[23:47] Speaker 1: in a place that doesn't have to necessarily look back
[23:49] Speaker 1: at the investment that they made in him. And not
[23:52] Speaker 1: to say that sunk costs is some sort of thing
[23:54] Speaker 1: that we should always be worried about, but if we
[23:58] Speaker 1: examine those games where the Panthers were successful where they
[24:01] Speaker 1: did make plays, they were high leverage moments where it
[24:05] Speaker 1: could have gone either way, and it was Bryce Young
[24:08] Speaker 1: having to make a play. He has at least made
[24:11] Speaker 1: those plays. There are some quarterbacks who get in these
[24:13] Speaker 1: discussions shook that have successful offense as successful teams, but
[24:19] Speaker 1: it's tough to think about a lot of situations where
[24:21] Speaker 1: those plays are made. I leaned towards believing long term
[24:26] Speaker 1: in the guys that make the plays on the field.
[24:28] Speaker 1: That's my belief. Those biased yeah, clear.
[24:31] Speaker 3: Yeah, And I think there's a cautionary tale.
[24:33] Speaker 2: That's also another parallel that exists in the NFC South
[24:36] Speaker 2: right now, which is that the guy who wears Bryce
[24:38] Speaker 2: Young's number flipped upside down to Baker Mayfield because the
[24:42] Speaker 2: Browns basically made the decision in a similar situation because
[24:46] Speaker 2: they thought the grass was greener with Deshaan Watson. We
[24:48] Speaker 2: know how that all played out, and you know, Baker
[24:51] Speaker 2: has created quite a career for himself with the Buccaneers,
[24:53] Speaker 2: which you fear, if you're a Panthers fan, that would
[24:55] Speaker 2: happen to Bryce somewhere else if they were to move
[24:57] Speaker 2: on from him. The only difference I think is that
[25:01] Speaker 2: Baker Mayfield's issues were usually injury related, him playing through injury,
[25:05] Speaker 2: which happened again this past season. This guy needs to
[25:07] Speaker 2: learn how to just take a breather and heal up
[25:09] Speaker 2: for a couple of weeks.
[25:10] Speaker 3: I think.
[25:11] Speaker 2: But and it wasn't so much about questions of whether
[25:14] Speaker 2: he could deliver in the clutch or not. He did
[25:15] Speaker 2: a pretty good job of that with the Browns when
[25:17] Speaker 2: he was there, Yet they still moved on from him
[25:19] Speaker 2: because of the way his final season there ended. I
[25:21] Speaker 2: wouldn't want the Panthers to make the same mistake if
[25:23] Speaker 2: something like that happened. But I would very much understand
[25:27] Speaker 2: that if he had a tumultuous season, that if he
[25:29] Speaker 2: did struggle, if they didn't, you know, meet the same
[25:32] Speaker 2: expectations that were set by last season winning the division
[25:35] Speaker 2: title in what was the worst division football, that they
[25:38] Speaker 2: would be you know, inspired to move on thinking that
[25:41] Speaker 2: they could find something better in this upcoming class. Now,
[25:43] Speaker 2: if you're looking at a terrible season and everything's fallen
[25:46] Speaker 2: apart and you got a top five pick, then maybe
[25:49] Speaker 2: that makes a little bit more sense because of this
[25:50] Speaker 2: class that's coming up with quarterbacks. But otherwise, it's a
[25:53] Speaker 2: tough situation to be in, and a lot of it
[25:55] Speaker 2: speaks to continuity. How long have you played with Dave Canalis?
[25:58] Speaker 2: Now to mention the coach change, Frank Reich was his
[26:01] Speaker 2: coach's first year that ended, you know, in ugly fashion
[26:03] Speaker 2: rather quickly. You thought, like last year maybe would be
[26:07] Speaker 2: the first step. And I think that there were moments
[26:08] Speaker 2: of you know, optimism and reason to believe in him.
[26:12] Speaker 2: But like I said, there was you know, the four
[26:13] Speaker 2: hundred and forty yard game against Atlanta where they win
[26:15] Speaker 2: an overtime. The next week he delivers an absolute clunker
[26:18] Speaker 2: in San Francisco in prime time.
[26:20] Speaker 3: I can't have both sides that.
[26:21] Speaker 2: I don't think the Panthers can either, if they're going
[26:23] Speaker 2: to invest long term in a guy like this. They
[26:24] Speaker 2: do have the fifth year option already, so they're fine,
[26:26] Speaker 2: Like I wouldn't worry about, you know, security wise, I
[26:28] Speaker 2: still have that deal. It does jump to twenty five
[26:30] Speaker 2: point nine million dollars next year, but that's not a
[26:32] Speaker 2: huge issue for them. That's still below market rate for
[26:34] Speaker 2: a starting quarterback in the NFL at this point, so
[26:36] Speaker 2: it's fine. It's just that, like the pressure is on
[26:38] Speaker 2: He's going to have to start proving one way or
[26:40] Speaker 2: the other. And I think Dave Canalis is going to
[26:41] Speaker 2: have to too. Yes, they won the division last year, but
[26:43] Speaker 2: it wasn't the most like impressive victory in the division,
[26:47] Speaker 2: especially in the greater landscape of the NFL. So this
[26:50] Speaker 2: has gotta be the year that he takes the next step.
[26:52] Speaker 2: I want to believe that he can, but I'm gonna
[26:54] Speaker 2: be one of those skeptics that needs to be have
[26:56] Speaker 2: it proven to me before I believe it.
[26:57] Speaker 1: Yeah, being in the wild card game against the team
[27:00] Speaker 1: almost beat the team that won the Super Bowl is
[27:02] Speaker 1: not gonna that Banner's not going up in Charlotte.
[27:05] Speaker 3: We were that other team that everybody forgets.
[27:07] Speaker 1: Yeah, there's bringing up like the Canalis of it all.
[27:12] Speaker 1: If there is a bad enough season to move on
[27:14] Speaker 1: from Bryce, then is that bad enough that it's long
[27:18] Speaker 1: term bad for day of Canals? And that's the decision?
[27:21] Speaker 1: Like this offensive, you know, the guru Tad just gets
[27:25] Speaker 1: thrown around everybody. Every new coordinator has been called a
[27:27] Speaker 1: genius at some point this offseason, you know, so it
[27:32] Speaker 1: kind of becomes superfluous. But Canal is brought in to
[27:35] Speaker 1: repair an offense and give a young quarterback hope of
[27:38] Speaker 1: growing into and developing into something in the future. And
[27:41] Speaker 1: we've seen the hope. Now it's time for the sustained success.
[27:44] Speaker 1: Staying success is not there, like is it up for
[27:48] Speaker 1: both of them? There was the improvement right because Bryce's
[27:51] Speaker 1: pressure to sack ratio was horrible. It was twenty two
[27:55] Speaker 1: and a half percent coming into last year, dropped down
[27:57] Speaker 1: a thirteen point four percent. Check Down options being there
[28:01] Speaker 1: more and Bryce being more willing to take them was
[28:04] Speaker 1: a sign of growth. Cooker just gets the deal that
[28:07] Speaker 1: they believe in their group at receiver. Let's see what
[28:09] Speaker 1: they could do. I think twenty seven points a game
[28:13] Speaker 1: is that's it. It's Brison canal because it's an offensive situation.
[28:18] Speaker 1: Maybe there's change with Azure Everro on the other side.
[28:21] Speaker 1: You know, they just invested all that on defense. But
[28:25] Speaker 1: right around, like if he gets close to thirty, I
[28:28] Speaker 1: think they're both back. Yeah.
[28:30] Speaker 2: I actually really like the twenty seven point indicator because
[28:32] Speaker 2: I think that's the mark that you said for any
[28:33] Speaker 2: team that believes heavily in their defense, that if you
[28:35] Speaker 2: can put twenty seven on the board, you're gonna win
[28:37] Speaker 2: most games. And it points exactly what you said in
[28:39] Speaker 2: the investments in the defense, like they attack their defense
[28:41] Speaker 2: as offseason. Obviously with the addition of Jalen Phllips. They
[28:43] Speaker 2: got Lee Hunter in the second round to kind of
[28:44] Speaker 2: help their run stopping, and you can continue go down
[28:47] Speaker 2: the list, so it's like, yeah, maybe if that side comes,
[28:50] Speaker 2: you know, closer to where they want it to be,
[28:51] Speaker 2: then maybe there's a little bit of pressure off of
[28:53] Speaker 2: Bryce Young and it could mask the idea that like,
[28:56] Speaker 2: maybe he's not really proved himself as a franchise quarterback,
[28:59] Speaker 2: but it's more than good enough, and that's good enough
[29:01] Speaker 2: for them to invest him. I just don't want them
[29:03] Speaker 2: to be in the situation. I remember I was on
[29:05] Speaker 2: a vacation. I was going meet up with a bunch
[29:07] Speaker 2: of college friends a couple of summers ago, and I
[29:09] Speaker 2: saw on the ticker an NFL Network two a tong
[29:11] Speaker 2: about low as signs extension and I was just like that,
[29:13] Speaker 2: you're gonna regret that, and they did, and I don't
[29:16] Speaker 2: want that to be the situation in Carolina.
[29:18] Speaker 1: Yeah, and you mentioned Baker. I hope hopefully Baker gets
[29:21] Speaker 1: his deal, but yeah, if something happens to Bryce and
[29:25] Speaker 1: his shoulder is wrecked, and for some reason they continue
[29:28] Speaker 1: to put him into games like the Browns did. Then
[29:30] Speaker 1: it's just a foul on everybody.
[29:32] Speaker 3: Yes, protect players of the Cleveland Browns.
[29:35] Speaker 1: Protect players from themselves. Speaking of teams perennially taking quarterbacks,
[29:40] Speaker 1: I'll do my final unsolved. A young man throws a
[29:45] Speaker 1: ball in Austin, Texas. It's a hot day. He's the
[29:48] Speaker 1: target of a state's attention, the dreams of a nation,
[29:52] Speaker 1: a torrent of potential energy for the upcoming college football season,
[29:55] Speaker 1: but also a specter hanging over the NFL season for
[30:00] Speaker 1: who starts the season with problems. But they're all teams
[30:04] Speaker 1: that might be thinking about losing before any losing even happens.
[30:10] Speaker 1: Who already knows that they're going to march for Arch?
[30:13] Speaker 1: Who is planning for Manning? Who hopes to lose a
[30:17] Speaker 1: ton for Cooper's son? Do you think anybody's thinking about
[30:23] Speaker 1: it like that? We know the players and coaches aren't
[30:27] Speaker 1: thinking about it, right they, But what front offices are like,
[30:32] Speaker 1: hey man, we let's not try.
[30:37] Speaker 2: I don't think at this point that anybody is saying
[30:39] Speaker 2: let's not try. But I think there are some teams
[30:41] Speaker 2: that are constructed as if they are not going to
[30:43] Speaker 2: try or are they.
[30:43] Speaker 3: Expect to lose a lot of games.
[30:45] Speaker 2: One of those teams just signed a quarterback in Miami,
[30:47] Speaker 2: but that's a you know, massive rebuild that they're willingly undertaking.
[30:50] Speaker 2: Another team had a couple of strong draft classes, one
[30:53] Speaker 2: that we've actually gotten results from, another one that we
[30:55] Speaker 2: haven't seen them play because they're gonna be rookies this year.
[30:57] Speaker 2: It's the Cleveland Browns, and we know that their biggest
[30:59] Speaker 2: you know need it still is quarterback.
[31:02] Speaker 1: Uh.
[31:02] Speaker 2: And I think that they're going to trudge through this
[31:03] Speaker 2: season and be in prime position to potentially spend a
[31:06] Speaker 2: pick on Arch Banning.
[31:07] Speaker 4: Uh.
[31:07] Speaker 2: That those are probably the first two teams that come
[31:09] Speaker 2: to mind. Another one is Arizona, but Arizona did spend
[31:12] Speaker 2: that you know, third round pick on Carson Beck and
[31:14] Speaker 2: I then's something that we'll get to later in this
[31:16] Speaker 2: show that I think you should keep an eye on.
[31:19] Speaker 2: So those are the first three teams that really come
[31:21] Speaker 2: to mind. And you think about like the Raiders, you
[31:23] Speaker 2: know their situation that they were in last year, Well
[31:24] Speaker 2: they have for Nanda Mendoza now, so they're off the board,
[31:27] Speaker 2: and from there you just have to kind of kind
[31:28] Speaker 2: of continue to go down the list. Who needs answers.
[31:29] Speaker 2: The Jets need an answer after Geno. Are they just
[31:31] Speaker 2: going to ride this weird like honeymoon? Like this is like, oh,
[31:34] Speaker 2: the first marriage didn't work out, but we've we've worked
[31:36] Speaker 2: everything out and we actually want to get married again.
[31:38] Speaker 3: That does work sometimes?
[31:41] Speaker 1: Is our therapist in this marriage? By the way? Oh God?
[31:45] Speaker 2: But I think that yeah, I would put I would
[31:47] Speaker 2: put the Browns in prime position for that just ba.
[31:50] Speaker 2: I think that they'll actually probably be competitive enough to
[31:52] Speaker 2: maybe not end up with a top two pick.
[31:55] Speaker 3: And that's not me being hopeful or aspirational.
[31:57] Speaker 2: I just think that there they're personnel wise, is probably
[31:59] Speaker 2: gonna say that they'll be competitive enough to not be
[32:02] Speaker 2: one of the absolute worst teams in the league, even
[32:04] Speaker 2: though it would behoove them to end up with one
[32:06] Speaker 2: of those picks. But my biggest question this is a
[32:08] Speaker 2: mister that I need solve for me this season in
[32:10] Speaker 2: college football. I don't know if I'm that much of
[32:12] Speaker 2: a believer in our Smanning Stock, Like I know, this
[32:15] Speaker 2: is a kid that we have followed since he was
[32:16] Speaker 2: a freshman in high school because of his family name
[32:19] Speaker 2: and because of how tightly guarded the family kept his
[32:22] Speaker 2: whole recruitment and everything else, they have really managed this
[32:25] Speaker 2: like a professional agency would understandably so given their you know,
[32:29] Speaker 2: decades of experience with being an NFL quarterback going.
[32:32] Speaker 3: All the way back to Archie.
[32:33] Speaker 2: But I just need to see improved over the entire
[32:35] Speaker 2: course of the season, because I saw him way back
[32:37] Speaker 2: in Week one of last season, which is a long
[32:39] Speaker 2: time ago at this point, struggle mightily with accuracy with
[32:42] Speaker 2: decision making. He did improve later in the season, but
[32:44] Speaker 2: it all felt like too little, too late for that
[32:46] Speaker 2: Texas team. Can he build on the strides that he
[32:48] Speaker 2: made in the back half of last season and put
[32:50] Speaker 2: together one of those performances that rockets him up the
[32:52] Speaker 2: draft board at least justifies his reputation as it stands
[32:55] Speaker 2: right now, or are we going to see one of
[32:56] Speaker 2: those situations in which he never really quite fulfills that
[33:00] Speaker 2: maybe somebody overdrafts him. That's I'm not a hundred percent
[33:03] Speaker 2: bought in guy on arch Manning as at this point
[33:06] Speaker 2: right now.
[33:06] Speaker 1: Well, I think, and it's completely justifiable to feel that
[33:09] Speaker 1: way regarding the expectations versus the reality of what we've
[33:13] Speaker 1: seen on the field, but being who he is that
[33:17] Speaker 1: spark those those moments, that two hundred and fifty yard
[33:21] Speaker 1: three iron that hits within four inches of the pen
[33:24] Speaker 1: and stops dead. That keeps you coming back and keeps
[33:26] Speaker 1: you buying clubs. That's the thing that we have to
[33:30] Speaker 1: chart with these organizations because if they see that, like
[33:33] Speaker 1: at the performance from the Bowl game, if there's three
[33:36] Speaker 1: of those late in the season, they're they're selling the farm.
[33:40] Speaker 1: And like you mentioned, like Gardner Minshew or Carson Beck
[33:44] Speaker 1: or Jacoby Brissett, like these teams, they're gonna need these
[33:47] Speaker 1: guys to play standing on their heads, throwing touchdowns with
[33:49] Speaker 1: both arms at the same time before they get this
[33:52] Speaker 1: vision of this kid with Manning on the back of
[33:55] Speaker 1: the jersey running out there for their teams, which, you know,
[33:59] Speaker 1: gives me a chance to sh horn my case for
[34:00] Speaker 1: draft abolition in there, because we shouldn't be nine weeks
[34:03] Speaker 1: in the season and teams that like aren't necessarily out
[34:06] Speaker 1: of it with fan bases that are like, yeah, gozas
[34:09] Speaker 1: loves you know, like I think that's I think that's
[34:12] Speaker 1: bad for the game, But it's just it's an addiction
[34:16] Speaker 1: at this point and understandably, So these guys have been successful. Like, statistically,
[34:23] Speaker 1: Arch Manning is probably gonna play football. He's probably going
[34:25] Speaker 1: to play football somewhere, and you can make the case
[34:27] Speaker 1: that he could be successful with that, especially considering we
[34:30] Speaker 1: just saw and a lot of that was media generated,
[34:33] Speaker 1: but so much energy and attention going to Brettin Soresby,
[34:36] Speaker 1: who has not even accomplished what Arch has done. Shook
[34:40] Speaker 1: like people are so hard up for quarterbacks that they're
[34:42] Speaker 1: willing to do anyone anything, and this one has Manning
[34:44] Speaker 1: on the back of his jersey.
[34:45] Speaker 2: I liken it to the idea of driving past a
[34:48] Speaker 2: luxury car a lot and it's definitely way out of
[34:51] Speaker 2: your price range, but you're like, Oh, wouldn't it be
[34:53] Speaker 2: nice to have that Bugatti?
[34:54] Speaker 3: Would it be nice to drive that Lamborghini? Wouldn't it
[34:57] Speaker 3: Let's just go.
[34:57] Speaker 2: For a test dright, I could justify, you know, can
[35:00] Speaker 2: considering even just this Cadillac? Right, Like, eh, you know what,
[35:03] Speaker 2: I owe it to myself. Let me treat myself that
[35:05] Speaker 2: Folks just get that obsessed with quarterbacks. And I thought
[35:07] Speaker 2: Sorophy was a great comparison because that's immediately what came
[35:10] Speaker 2: to mind for me. Because I think back to his
[35:11] Speaker 2: first game last season when he was dreadful when they
[35:14] Speaker 2: played at Arrowhead, and then he you know, put together
[35:16] Speaker 2: a solid year and everything else goes in Texas tack.
[35:18] Speaker 3: We all know what happened from there, right.
[35:19] Speaker 2: But I do believe that you're right that teams have
[35:23] Speaker 2: made more desperate decisions in the draft than drafting Arch Manning.
[35:27] Speaker 2: We can go all the way back to selecting Mitch
[35:29] Speaker 2: Trubisky second overall, if we want to, like, teams constantly
[35:32] Speaker 2: reached for quarterbacks. The Rams, you know, convince themselves that
[35:35] Speaker 2: Ty Simpson was the future and spent a first round
[35:37] Speaker 2: pick on him this year, and I was like, there's
[35:39] Speaker 2: no way he's going that high, and then he did.
[35:41] Speaker 2: So crazier things have happened, and it wouldn't be crazy
[35:43] Speaker 2: at all. But I just need, as somebody who really
[35:47] Speaker 2: I guess I'm risk averse. Sometimes I need to see
[35:49] Speaker 2: it proven to me to really buy in, just because
[35:51] Speaker 2: the hype has been so loud and so strong with
[35:54] Speaker 2: Arch for so long.
[35:55] Speaker 1: Just again, everybody draft responsibly, and good luck to Arch
[36:00] Speaker 1: and and yeah, good lucks to Brendan Soresby. Stay you know, yeah,
[36:05] Speaker 1: don't don't scratch the itch.
[36:07] Speaker 3: But we'll see yeah, yeah, yeah, definitely that.
[36:10] Speaker 1: We'll see you when you get We got some we
[36:12] Speaker 1: got some power points that you can watch that are
[36:14] Speaker 1: going to prevent all that. Do you have one more shown?
[36:17] Speaker 3: Yeah? Got one more? Hit that music, Let's do it.
[36:24] Speaker 2: The story of a team in transition, a quarterback with
[36:28] Speaker 2: new opportunity, and an undetermined to pass forward Tonight on
[36:33] Speaker 2: Unsolved Mysteries, Malik Willis knows who his best running mate
[36:37] Speaker 2: is in Devon a Chan, But football is a game
[36:40] Speaker 2: one as a team two cannot do it alone. So
[36:44] Speaker 2: who might emerge as the next best partner in crime
[36:48] Speaker 2: in Miami?
[36:52] Speaker 1: I've got an answer for you, Shore, Let's do it. It's
[36:55] Speaker 1: for the for the folks who, again, not you, Brandon,
[36:58] Speaker 1: leave it alone, the folks who play fantasy football. Malik Washington,
[37:04] Speaker 1: this shook. This is the Malik Washington season, which makes me,
[37:08] Speaker 1: it makes me feel a little bit rough for miliquals
[37:11] Speaker 1: that we're having this conversation. It's honestly a little bit
[37:13] Speaker 1: unfair considering the overall circumstances. And it's like, yeah, we
[37:17] Speaker 1: gotta save a franchise. You're gonna have to do it alone. Man,
[37:20] Speaker 1: because we're gonna everybody out here, so you and this
[37:23] Speaker 1: five to nine hundred and fifty pound running back, it's
[37:27] Speaker 1: all you guys, Yeah, go out there. I guess he's
[37:29] Speaker 1: got to be the power back. Shook.
[37:32] Speaker 3: I know it's such a problem.
[37:34] Speaker 2: I'm so concerned about this entire situation because look, it
[37:37] Speaker 2: made sense for them to be like, hey, we're gonna
[37:38] Speaker 2: be the team to pull the trigger on Melik Willis.
[37:40] Speaker 3: We like what you know he became under Matt Lafleur
[37:43] Speaker 3: in Green Bay.
[37:43] Speaker 2: And then we're also gonna go trade away Jaylen Waddle
[37:46] Speaker 2: and yeah, we have a bit of an investment in
[37:48] Speaker 2: our offensive line.
[37:48] Speaker 3: That's probably our strength on the offensive side.
[37:50] Speaker 2: But title number one is Greg Dolcic, who had a
[37:52] Speaker 2: nice little bounce back, you know, first four a with
[37:55] Speaker 2: with the Dolphins. But I mean this corps is Malik
[37:58] Speaker 2: Washington and Jalen Tolbert and two to hours well and
[38:00] Speaker 2: Chris Bell coming off in acl you know, as a rookie, like,
[38:04] Speaker 2: I'm going all the way down to THEO Wiese junior.
[38:07] Speaker 2: And I remember last season when THEO wist Junior scored
[38:09] Speaker 2: a touchdown and Fox flew up his name. You know
[38:12] Speaker 2: on the graphic underneath him, and I went, who, Like,
[38:15] Speaker 2: that's gonna be the story of the Dolphins season. Offensively,
[38:17] Speaker 2: who this guy? But somebody's gotta emerge, So honestly, I
[38:22] Speaker 2: like that pick. I would love to believe in the
[38:24] Speaker 2: two two conspiracy, right, the two two push the agenda,
[38:28] Speaker 2: but I just don't think it happens in a team
[38:30] Speaker 2: that actually might need to rely on him. Jalen Tolbert
[38:32] Speaker 2: was a guy that you know in Dallas, never lived
[38:35] Speaker 2: up to his expectation, was often an unfair target of
[38:40] Speaker 2: fans iire in his first couple of years there.
[38:42] Speaker 3: I like the idea of.
[38:43] Speaker 2: Him getting a fresh start with the Dolphins, but again,
[38:45] Speaker 2: this is going to just be a challenge for this
[38:47] Speaker 2: entire unit. And I pray Devon ay chenkn play the
[38:49] Speaker 2: majority of the season because they're going to need him desperately.
[38:52] Speaker 1: Yeah, it's it's a question of who makes the place right.
[38:54] Speaker 1: And that's why I bring up Malik Washington because I've
[38:56] Speaker 1: seen them make plays and I know too too, and
[38:59] Speaker 1: Jay and Tolbert have played football. They played a lot
[39:02] Speaker 1: of football. They played with really good quarterbacks and really
[39:05] Speaker 1: good offenses where they weren't even the top one or
[39:07] Speaker 1: two options, and we still didn't see those plays. That's
[39:11] Speaker 1: the concerning part to me, where they're like pieces in
[39:15] Speaker 1: something that's really good. It's gonna be tough for this
[39:19] Speaker 1: assembly to be really good. And Malik Washington like, let's
[39:25] Speaker 1: let's go. I'm worried, but in terms like it could
[39:30] Speaker 1: all be Malik, I just hope we can get sixteen
[39:33] Speaker 1: seventeen games of Malik Willis being healthy considering all that
[39:38] Speaker 1: he's going to need to do for this offense to
[39:40] Speaker 1: move the ball.
[39:41] Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, yeah, And that's that's my greatest concern. Is
[39:44] Speaker 2: that look like when he came out of college, when
[39:46] Speaker 2: he came out of Liberty as a Tennessee he just
[39:47] Speaker 2: looked lost, like he was not ready for the pro game.
[39:49] Speaker 2: And fortunately he was able to land in a good
[39:51] Speaker 2: spot where he could actually grow and learn the plays.
[39:54] Speaker 2: And even he said that he's like, y're too with
[39:56] Speaker 2: the backers. He was like, I know the plays now,
[39:58] Speaker 2: Like that's half the battle. He was able to use
[40:00] Speaker 2: this natural talents to the best of his ability and
[40:02] Speaker 2: kind of, you know, raise enough eyebrows to attract you know,
[40:05] Speaker 2: the contract that he's earned in a small sample size.
[40:08] Speaker 2: But now is where the real test begins, and it's
[40:11] Speaker 2: with leading this team. And it's funny because they asked
[40:14] Speaker 2: him about Jaylen Wadle getting traded away and he was
[40:16] Speaker 2: very blunt about and he was just like, yeah, this
[40:19] Speaker 2: is exactly what he said.
[40:20] Speaker 3: But he essentially said this, it sucked.
[40:22] Speaker 2: Oh wait wait, I gotta be the quarterback now, I
[40:24] Speaker 2: can't say this.
[40:25] Speaker 3: I will be fine. I hope that they'll be fine.
[40:28] Speaker 1: No, it's the right answer, Malik. If something sucks, say
[40:32] Speaker 1: it sucks. You know. We we just you know, we
[40:34] Speaker 1: just finished a conversation about teams maybe not trying so hard,
[40:37] Speaker 1: and maybe that team has a history of maybe not
[40:39] Speaker 1: trying so hard. So we just want, we want everything
[40:42] Speaker 1: to be in the up and up. Let's do a
[40:43] Speaker 1: quick run before we do have a solved mystery that
[40:46] Speaker 1: I can give you and the folks, uh shook quick
[40:49] Speaker 1: run through here, who's gonna sound Debo or Stefan Digs?
[40:52] Speaker 1: If you had to pick a spot for those guys
[40:54] Speaker 1: where they're going, I lean.
[40:56] Speaker 2: Diggs because all due respect to Debo, he I think
[41:00] Speaker 2: he's one of those players that the style of play,
[41:02] Speaker 2: you know, being the rugged, short, more explosive receiver, when
[41:05] Speaker 2: you get older, I think that time that tends to
[41:07] Speaker 2: fall off, and we kind of saw that in Washington,
[41:09] Speaker 2: just being his availability not being the best, And I
[41:12] Speaker 2: think that he's somebody that ends up latching on with
[41:14] Speaker 2: the team that develops a need at receiver in training camp.
[41:17] Speaker 2: Right whereas Diggs, I think, you know the role that
[41:20] Speaker 2: he played with the Patriots, you know, in the leader
[41:23] Speaker 2: to the Super Bowl.
[41:24] Speaker 3: You know, I was embedded with the Patriots all week,
[41:26] Speaker 3: and all.
[41:27] Speaker 2: Those guys just talked about like him being the older
[41:29] Speaker 2: guy in the room that was really showing them how
[41:30] Speaker 2: to do things. They basically presented Stefan Diggs in a
[41:33] Speaker 2: positive light that we've never seen Stefan Diggs presented in
[41:35] Speaker 2: the course of his career. And yes, he didn't really
[41:38] Speaker 2: do anything in the Super Bowl, but the idea that
[41:40] Speaker 2: he was able to kind of bring that room together
[41:42] Speaker 2: and serve as a veteran leader on their march to
[41:44] Speaker 2: the Super Bowl carried a lot of weight with me,
[41:46] Speaker 2: and I think will land him with the right team.
[41:48] Speaker 3: It's just a matter of who.
[41:49] Speaker 2: So you think about some potential pairings, and a quick
[41:53] Speaker 2: one is he's a Maryland kid. Why not go back
[41:56] Speaker 2: to the commanders where it's Terry McLaurin and some guys
[41:59] Speaker 2: that would make a lot of sense. The guys that
[42:01] Speaker 2: they've spent draft picks on in recent years haven't worked out.
[42:03] Speaker 2: They could use a running mate in that receiving court.
[42:05] Speaker 2: You look at the Raiders, we know that their whole
[42:08] Speaker 2: group has not been you know, anything to really write
[42:11] Speaker 2: home about. Whether it started with the idea of drafting
[42:13] Speaker 2: Jack Besh and he failed to really make a difference.
[42:15] Speaker 2: They did add Jalen Naylor, but Trey Tucker is the
[42:17] Speaker 2: other guy out there, and they have Dante Thornton as
[42:19] Speaker 2: you know, somebody who could potentially make a difference downfield.
[42:21] Speaker 3: But that group is not very deep.
[42:23] Speaker 2: There's way too much of a reliance on Brock Bowers,
[42:25] Speaker 2: and we saw what happens when Brock is not at
[42:27] Speaker 2: one hundred percent health and your offensive line isn't very good,
[42:30] Speaker 2: you fall apart offensively, which is what they did last year.
[42:32] Speaker 3: Obviously.
[42:32] Speaker 2: You know, the offensive line has gotten a little bit
[42:34] Speaker 2: better with the addition of Tyler Linderbaum, and hopefully it's
[42:36] Speaker 2: just a better group overall with Kirk Cousins or Fromanda
[42:39] Speaker 2: Mendoza leading that offense. So I think that's another good
[42:41] Speaker 2: fit there where he could make an impact on a
[42:43] Speaker 2: team that could use some leadership and some experience.
[42:45] Speaker 3: But then I think about contenders.
[42:47] Speaker 2: And that's not to say that, like, you know, Commanders
[42:49] Speaker 2: fans and Raiders fans shouldn't be excited for the season,
[42:51] Speaker 2: because they should.
[42:51] Speaker 3: Everybody should. It's June, it's optimism season.
[42:54] Speaker 2: But let's talk about real contenders, and let's think about
[42:56] Speaker 2: the Rams, and let's think about the fact that they
[42:58] Speaker 2: considered getting rid of DeVante a favor of AJ Brown
[43:01] Speaker 2: and then they didn't. They backed off, They went out
[43:02] Speaker 2: of the AJ Brown seep sweepstakes. Their top three right
[43:05] Speaker 2: now are Pukakua, Devonte Adams, and Jordan Whittington. And all
[43:07] Speaker 2: due respect to Jordan Whittington, a player who I think
[43:09] Speaker 2: is nice and makes good plays in spots they could
[43:12] Speaker 2: use more death too. This is a team that wants
[43:13] Speaker 2: go win a Super Bowl. Go ad a guy like
[43:15] Speaker 2: that who has experienced, who was just in the Super Bowl.
[43:18] Speaker 2: As long as you can break keep it all together
[43:19] Speaker 2: in the locker room, which I think that they'll be
[43:21] Speaker 2: able to do. So that makes a lot of sense
[43:22] Speaker 2: for me, And they could also make it work capwise,
[43:24] Speaker 2: and the last team that really couldn't make it work capwise,
[43:26] Speaker 2: but just stays on our radar, and it's going to
[43:27] Speaker 2: be on our radar for years and years to come
[43:29] Speaker 2: because they never quite fill out this position. Group is
[43:31] Speaker 2: the Kansas City Chiefs. Yes, you have Rachet Rice coming
[43:34] Speaker 2: back from injury and everything else. You have Xavier Worthy
[43:36] Speaker 2: coming back as well, and you have Taekwon Thornton, a
[43:38] Speaker 2: fun little downfield guy. Right, but this is a group
[43:41] Speaker 2: that has never really had the fully fledged receiving corpse
[43:45] Speaker 2: since the days of Tyreek Hill, and why not, you know,
[43:49] Speaker 2: try to find a way. The problem is you'd have
[43:51] Speaker 2: to make the money work. They only have like four
[43:52] Speaker 2: million dollars in cap stays right now. That would be
[43:54] Speaker 2: a big hurdle for them. But everybody wants to be
[43:56] Speaker 2: on a contender. Why not go join the Chiefs.
[43:58] Speaker 1: Yeah, it's been a long time since there's been that
[44:00] Speaker 1: technician in case where like you got to go back
[44:03] Speaker 1: to Sammy Watkins. Was that the last the actual why
[44:08] Speaker 1: there was the late stage nuke for for some time?
[44:11] Speaker 1: But yeah, and let's do one more here. Well, we'll
[44:15] Speaker 1: go quickly in these quarterback battles, tour or Michael Pennock junior.
[44:21] Speaker 2: Mm okay, this is probably the one that I'm most
[44:24] Speaker 2: conflicted on because I think it really could go either way.
[44:26] Speaker 2: It also depends on Penix's health coming back from injury.
[44:30] Speaker 2: I feel like this is a neck and neck one
[44:31] Speaker 2: that could go either way to start the season, and
[44:34] Speaker 2: it's gonna be one of those campaigns which maybe Tua
[44:36] Speaker 2: starts and Penix ends up healthy enough and to find
[44:38] Speaker 2: some struggles at some point in the season they go
[44:40] Speaker 2: back to Penis and I just hope it's not one
[44:42] Speaker 2: of those yeo yo things they go back and forth
[44:43] Speaker 2: beteen quarterbacks because that's just going to ruin Penix's long
[44:45] Speaker 2: term development. But it is a different regime that you know,
[44:48] Speaker 2: this isn't their guy, so that's always very possible there.
[44:50] Speaker 2: But I think we start with Tua as QB one
[44:53] Speaker 2: to begin the season.
[44:53] Speaker 1: All right, Are we going to be subjected as a
[44:55] Speaker 1: football family to Deshaun Watson playing football?
[44:58] Speaker 3: Yes, And I don't know how it's going to go.
[45:01] Speaker 2: I you know, if the last four years or any
[45:05] Speaker 2: proof it's not going to go well.
[45:07] Speaker 3: But that's pretty much the Browns.
[45:08] Speaker 2: That's the position they've you know, put themselves in with
[45:11] Speaker 2: him in Shador. I saw a social media posts to
[45:13] Speaker 2: say about people hearing rumors about trade calls for Shadoor
[45:16] Speaker 2: because the Shadoor agenda never stops among the fans. Just
[45:19] Speaker 2: what is going on here? It's going to be ugly.
[45:21] Speaker 2: I'm gonna get tired of it by week three. But
[45:23] Speaker 2: I think that they are laying the groundwork to put
[45:25] Speaker 2: to Sean in the starting role in seeing where it goes.
[45:28] Speaker 1: How many weeks off Kirk Cousins as the starting quarterback
[45:30] Speaker 1: of the Las Vegas Raiders do we.
[45:32] Speaker 3: Get Okay, I'm going to set you a range.
[45:34] Speaker 2: We're at least four and this is not a Russell
[45:36] Speaker 2: Wilson four where I always felt like that was his
[45:38] Speaker 2: job that he was going to lose. This is a
[45:40] Speaker 2: four to eight game range because I think that's what
[45:43] Speaker 2: Clint Kubiak wants to get his offense settled and everybody
[45:46] Speaker 2: understanding exactly what they want to do their roles, how
[45:49] Speaker 2: they want to execute from a week to week basis
[45:51] Speaker 2: with a veteran, a mature guy, like he said, he
[45:53] Speaker 2: wanted to lead this offense into their first year together.
[45:56] Speaker 2: But eventually fans are going to want to see for
[45:57] Speaker 2: Nana Mendoza and if they struggle, it's going to be
[45:58] Speaker 2: sooner than later, which is why my ranges foward to
[46:00] Speaker 2: eight weeks.
[46:01] Speaker 1: In terms of fans wanting something sooner rather than later.
[46:04] Speaker 1: The Dallas Cowboys fan base would like to have sustained
[46:07] Speaker 1: success in the postseason. The overall mystery are the Dallas
[46:15] Speaker 1: Cowboys going to win the Super Bowl? Brian Schottenneimer has
[46:17] Speaker 1: an answer for us.
[46:18] Speaker 2: Looking at head into the season. If I ask your
[46:20] Speaker 2: confidence level, I know you're say confident, but you look
[46:23] Speaker 2: at the schedule. You also look at a lot of
[46:24] Speaker 2: the movies on Mayo Devin side of all looks.
[46:27] Speaker 1: To be some good moves.
[46:28] Speaker 2: Where's your confidence low right now?
[46:31] Speaker 1: I mean.
[46:33] Speaker 4: Very confident. I love our roster, you know. I love
[46:36] Speaker 4: the changes that we've made on defense. I love Dax
[46:39] Speaker 4: grasp of what we're doing offensively. I love watching Tyler Booker,
[46:43] Speaker 4: you know, going to year or two and donovanez Aroku.
[46:45] Speaker 4: I love the addition to Kobe Durant, Rashan Gary. We're
[46:48] Speaker 4: seeing the best versions of Kenny Clark and Quinn Williams.
[46:51] Speaker 4: You know, I feel very, very confident and believe that
[46:54] Speaker 4: we're gonna find a way to be in that game
[46:55] Speaker 4: and win.
[46:56] Speaker 1: That game, being the super Bowl. Next shock? Are you sold?
[47:00] Speaker 1: Mentioned nine players there? The Cowboys are gonna win the
[47:03] Speaker 1: Super Bowl, be in that game and win it.
[47:05] Speaker 2: The best version of Kenny Clark when he's approaching his
[47:08] Speaker 2: thirty first birthday.
[47:09] Speaker 3: Okay, all right, Brian.
[47:12] Speaker 2: In order to get to that game, they need to
[47:13] Speaker 2: win the game that they haven't won in thirty years,
[47:15] Speaker 2: which is the divisional game.
[47:16] Speaker 3: So let's start with that. How about that?
[47:18] Speaker 2: Of course, everybody wants to be in the Super Bowl,
[47:19] Speaker 2: and if you ask any team at this point in
[47:21] Speaker 2: the season.
[47:22] Speaker 3: They're all going to say that they love their roster,
[47:24] Speaker 3: whether they believe it or not.
[47:26] Speaker 2: I actually am a believer in the Cowboys because they
[47:29] Speaker 2: had one of the best offenses last year and the
[47:31] Speaker 2: defense just couldn't stop a nosebleed. Do you have numbers
[47:34] Speaker 2: for me to explain exactly how bad their defense?
[47:36] Speaker 4: Yes?
[47:37] Speaker 3: How much?
[47:37] Speaker 1: In terms of success rate? If we go back in
[47:39] Speaker 1: the Next Gen Stats era, the Dallas Cowboys' opponents from
[47:43] Speaker 1: twenty twenty five would have been the best offense in
[47:46] Speaker 1: the entire NNGS era by five percentage points. Sure, five
[47:50] Speaker 1: percentage points they were in terms of explosive play rate
[47:53] Speaker 1: and success rate. They played a mismatch with the twenty
[47:56] Speaker 1: twenty five rams and twenty twenty five to forty nine
[47:59] Speaker 1: ers at the same time. Every time they stepped on
[48:01] Speaker 1: the field, they just got to be marginally better. That's
[48:04] Speaker 1: why all those players that shot he mentioned, most of
[48:07] Speaker 1: them played defense. It was a casual mention to Dak
[48:09] Speaker 1: and Tyler Booker, but everybody else, including the best version
[48:12] Speaker 1: of Kenny Clark. So congratulations to the Dallas Cowboys fans.
[48:15] Speaker 1: They did it.
[48:16] Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean they got the best version of George
[48:17] Speaker 2: Pickens last year and hopefully he's an even better version
[48:19] Speaker 2: of himself last yar this year. I mean, they had
[48:21] Speaker 2: two thousand yard receivers last year. How do we have
[48:23] Speaker 2: believe in this team? If they can figure it out
[48:24] Speaker 2: defensively with all the additions they've made, this should be
[48:26] Speaker 2: a playoff team that has legitimate Super Bowl aspirations. I'd
[48:29] Speaker 2: call me crazy. Don't say it's because they wear the
[48:31] Speaker 2: star on their helmet. I'm just saying the math is
[48:33] Speaker 2: mathing as long as that math you just gave me
[48:36] Speaker 2: ain't math.
[48:36] Speaker 3: And again this year, Yeah.
[48:38] Speaker 1: And the math that we enjoy is having Nick Chook
[48:41] Speaker 1: on this podcast. He mentioned several sports car brands, with
[48:45] Speaker 1: which Eric pointed out that Schuk could only fit in
[48:47] Speaker 1: one of those, and that was a catial. So thanks
[48:51] Speaker 1: to Nick Chook, thanks to Eric Roberts, thanks to Robert Flack,
[48:54] Speaker 1: and everybody who worked on Unsolved Mysteries back in the
[48:59] Speaker 1: day to give us a theme for our off season
[49:02] Speaker 1: edition of NFL Daily. For Nick Schuk, Eric Roberts, I'm
[49:06] Speaker 1: Patrick Claybond. We'll be back on Thursday with more podcasts
[49:10] Speaker 1: for all of you. Stay safe, happy belated Father's Day,
[49:13] Speaker 1: and we'll see you guys later this week.
