[0:05] Speaker 1: Welcome to NFL Daily, where we never get tired of
[0:08] Speaker 1: ranking things. I'm Greg Roosevelt here in the Chris Wesley
[0:11] Speaker 1: podcast studio with my friends Jordan rod Reeg and Patrick Clayband.
[0:17] Speaker 1: Little known fact for the listeners, this is the crew
[0:20] Speaker 1: of the first ever NFL Daily right here there.
[0:22] Speaker 2: It is symmetryg crew.
[0:26] Speaker 3: And you even almost hit Patrick in the face just now. Yes,
[0:30] Speaker 3: just like season two and just like season one.
[0:33] Speaker 1: My arms are flying around. And yes, there's not a
[0:37] Speaker 1: lot of news going on in the NFL, which is good.
[0:39] Speaker 1: It's the as I mentioned on Monday show, everyone checked
[0:42] Speaker 1: that out. We talked about the teams most likely to
[0:45] Speaker 1: climb the summit for the first time ever as champions.
[0:49] Speaker 1: I mentioned now we were nine days away from a
[0:52] Speaker 1: full team or teams two teams showing up for training game.
[0:55] Speaker 1: We are now eight days away as we are taping this.
[0:58] Speaker 1: But it's it's the last quiet week.
[1:00] Speaker 2: Yes.
[1:00] Speaker 1: The only thing really making news, Patrick, are rankings, off
[1:03] Speaker 1: season rankings, and we're not doing that today. We're doing
[1:06] Speaker 1: a mail bag. But I saw this, this tweet from
[1:08] Speaker 1: you on Blue Sky. Gonna rank the top ten off
[1:10] Speaker 1: season rankings based on a survey of people who rank things,
[1:15] Speaker 1: which as someone who's ranked a lot of things here,
[1:17] Speaker 1: that's it. I almost take it as a shot.
[1:19] Speaker 2: It's not a shot.
[1:20] Speaker 4: I'm going to utilize the resources available to me, which
[1:23] Speaker 4: is a few people who do rankings lists, okay, and
[1:26] Speaker 4: I'm going to have some rank the varied rankings lists
[1:29] Speaker 4: that we've seen, some of them which have inspired controversy
[1:33] Speaker 4: or controversy if you are.
[1:34] Speaker 1: I need some time to think about this, but I
[1:36] Speaker 1: actually would like to do I was.
[1:38] Speaker 3: Gonna say, I love that he's assuming that he will
[1:40] Speaker 3: be asked to do.
[1:42] Speaker 1: Of course, who else would be no, because it's only
[1:45] Speaker 1: going to be the top ten, So I got to
[1:46] Speaker 1: give love. You don't have to give any problems, but
[1:50] Speaker 1: I would like to.
[1:51] Speaker 3: You're lighting up just at the thought of another ranking project.
[1:55] Speaker 1: We don't have many left, and yes this is a
[1:58] Speaker 1: mail bag. We're going to start getting into our preseason
[2:01] Speaker 1: content looking ahead. We're gonna have Aaron shots on the
[2:04] Speaker 1: show coming up soon and his projections. It's really starting
[2:08] Speaker 1: to dive in. You know, we're gonna get into the
[2:09] Speaker 1: training camp battles. But for now, we asked for the
[2:12] Speaker 1: help of our our great listeners. Let's get to the mailbag.
[2:14] Speaker 1: Let's get to as many questions as we can before
[2:17] Speaker 1: Patrick gets back to his regular job. The daily host
[2:20] Speaker 1: of NFL Insiders on NFL Network saw I'm at the
[2:23] Speaker 1: gym last night while I was trying to burn off
[2:25] Speaker 1: that burn off that jet lag.
[2:28] Speaker 3: You know, Greg climbs mountain. Two days later, goes back
[2:31] Speaker 3: to Jim.
[2:32] Speaker 2: Yeah, he can't be stopped.
[2:34] Speaker 1: Sh I just knew I was gonna be up till
[2:36] Speaker 1: five am, and I was like, Okay, I'm gonna do
[2:38] Speaker 1: this at like nine. Charlie miss on Ig shout out
[2:41] Speaker 1: to the Instagram responses. Really good stuff there, asked listening
[2:46] Speaker 1: every day, big fan. That helps you get on the show.
[2:48] Speaker 1: By the way, if you give us a little bit
[2:50] Speaker 1: of love. Three rookies that people aren't talking about enough
[2:54] Speaker 1: this season, Why don't we start with Jordan here, but
[2:58] Speaker 1: we'll all get a turn.
[2:59] Speaker 2: Yeah.
[2:59] Speaker 3: I love this exercise. I love this question. This is
[3:02] Speaker 3: a really fun little dive into all the beat writer
[3:06] Speaker 3: reports and all of the draft analysis and all of
[3:09] Speaker 3: my personal favorites from the draft and seeing how they're doing.
[3:12] Speaker 3: I want to talk about Logan Jones, Okay at the center,
[3:16] Speaker 3: trying to compete with Garrett Bradbury for the starting center
[3:20] Speaker 3: job with the Chicago Bears right now apparently had a
[3:23] Speaker 3: really really good spring notepads, so we'll kind of hedge
[3:27] Speaker 3: that for a minute, but drawing really good reviews from
[3:29] Speaker 3: Ben Johnson, but worth.
[3:30] Speaker 1: Pointing out, like the Patriots, you know, traded a Super
[3:33] Speaker 1: Bowl starter for a reason. Yeah, Like that's the guy
[3:37] Speaker 1: that you could beat out.
[3:38] Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean you look at Eve I mean started
[3:41] Speaker 3: really sliding in Minnesota too. I mean it's really been
[3:44] Speaker 3: a little bit of a rough go of it for him,
[3:46] Speaker 3: and the fact that they're talking about this rookie as
[3:49] Speaker 3: a potential guy who's going to come in and start.
[3:51] Speaker 3: I don't think Ben Johnson is afraid to play young players.
[3:54] Speaker 3: He saw this with Audie Trappilo, who came in and
[3:56] Speaker 3: as a reserve role at first, but then really looked
[3:59] Speaker 3: like he could he could make some waves at the
[4:00] Speaker 3: tackle spot. The other player I want to talk about
[4:04] Speaker 3: who I don't think people are talking about enough another lineman,
[4:07] Speaker 3: because I don't think people are talking about linemen enough
[4:09] Speaker 3: in general. Maybe fair when they're coming in as rookies.
[4:12] Speaker 3: Jake Slaughter, the left guard a one of the coolest
[4:15] Speaker 3: names you can have if A you play football, B
[4:18] Speaker 3: you're a an offensive lineman for the Chargers, not only
[4:21] Speaker 3: because he's slotting into start immediately at left guard, but
[4:25] Speaker 3: also it is really, really, really really important that this
[4:28] Speaker 3: guy not only plays well but stays healthy because the
[4:31] Speaker 3: two tackles are coming back from the injuries that ended
[4:34] Speaker 3: their season last season. And also there's very little depth
[4:37] Speaker 3: behind him. In third, I'm not giving you guys anything.
[4:40] Speaker 1: I go for it.
[4:41] Speaker 3: And third, Jacob Rodriguez, the linebacker for the Dolphins. This
[4:46] Speaker 3: is I was informed Luke Keekley's favorite prospect this year.
[4:51] Speaker 3: When he says something about a linebacker, I tend to listen.
[4:54] Speaker 1: But that's really like an undersized, fast, quote unquote instinctive linebacker.
[4:58] Speaker 3: Yeah he's I mean, he's got I got some good
[5:00] Speaker 3: size to him. Actually, And and I went back and
[5:02] Speaker 3: I watched his tape at Texas Tech, and I just think,
[5:06] Speaker 3: I mean, this this kid really hits soup, hits hard
[5:09] Speaker 3: and was drawing. Lindzerline comped him to potentially Carson Swessinger,
[5:14] Speaker 3: who had a great rookie season. I don't think the
[5:16] Speaker 3: Dolphins are going to be talked about much this season.
[5:20] Speaker 3: And I think there's gonna be some really good young.
[5:21] Speaker 1: Players from that. You love that Dolphins. You got a
[5:23] Speaker 1: lot right, You've got a lot of chips on the Dolphins.
[5:25] Speaker 3: I will be proven right about the Dolphins over the
[5:28] Speaker 3: long term. Maybe not this season, but over the long term.
[5:31] Speaker 1: Jake Slaughter too.
[5:32] Speaker 2: Uh.
[5:33] Speaker 1: You know, it's a lot of people's favorite center in
[5:35] Speaker 1: the draft and then they're moving positions. That's raised some eyebrows.
[5:38] Speaker 1: But he's one of the more high leverage guys and
[5:40] Speaker 1: I picked a couple of those. Max Ianacher who's probably
[5:44] Speaker 1: gonna start at left tackle for the Steelers, and he's
[5:47] Speaker 1: a high ceiling, you know, prospect that people really love.
[5:51] Speaker 1: Then again, like a lot of top ten picks that
[5:53] Speaker 1: tackle have struggled in their rookie seasons. But if he,
[5:55] Speaker 1: if he hits that offensive line, could be great. But
[5:57] Speaker 1: if he if he struggles, like a lot of rookie tackles,
[6:01] Speaker 1: that could really hurt, you know, a playoff contending team.
[6:03] Speaker 1: Denzel Boston in Cleveland Browns offseason got a lot of notice.
[6:08] Speaker 1: That's like, yeah, Conception Own's good, they're gonna use him,
[6:10] Speaker 1: But Denzel Boston kind of profiling as potentially their wide
[6:14] Speaker 1: receiver one as a rookie, So that's pretty rare. I mean,
[6:17] Speaker 1: you never know, but he's got a chance. It's pretty
[6:19] Speaker 1: rare for a rookie to maybe be the best receiver
[6:21] Speaker 1: on the team. And then one of my draft loves CJ.
[6:24] Speaker 1: Allen for the Colts, who I think can step in
[6:26] Speaker 1: and make a big difference to the linebacker who's gonna
[6:29] Speaker 1: immediately step in and start for them.
[6:30] Speaker 4: Yeah, I mainly just focused on the guys that are
[6:33] Speaker 4: gonna be on contenders, like as much as I think
[6:35] Speaker 4: there could be more Caden Procerter discussion, shout out to
[6:38] Speaker 4: Jordan's chosen franchise of the of the Miami Dolphins. But
[6:42] Speaker 4: Blake Miller is expected to come in and kind of
[6:45] Speaker 4: be a guy on the team that's had a lot
[6:47] Speaker 4: of veterans produced on you know, Blake Miller drafted by
[6:51] Speaker 4: the Detroit Lions in that spot where they've had the
[6:53] Speaker 4: injuries and issues and retirements at tackle where they need
[6:56] Speaker 4: him and they're a team that wants to contend.
[7:00] Speaker 2: And then Ruben Bain.
[7:02] Speaker 4: So much discussion about ruben Bain before and during the
[7:05] Speaker 4: draft about arm length, and it feels like, you know,
[7:08] Speaker 4: and I can say this as one of the people
[7:10] Speaker 4: with the microphones. It's on TV five days a week
[7:12] Speaker 4: now because Patrick says yes to everything.
[7:14] Speaker 2: Is like, where is the ruben Bain hype and discussion
[7:18] Speaker 2: going right here?
[7:19] Speaker 3: Would you say it's shorter than expecting.
[7:21] Speaker 1: Also, you know Patrick's been on TV a lot. When
[7:25] Speaker 1: he starts going third person early in the show, I went,
[7:28] Speaker 1: good person, you're feeling you're feeling yourself home?
[7:30] Speaker 2: Good?
[7:30] Speaker 1: Well, I just you're the face of NFL network, right.
[7:33] Speaker 2: Stop it. That's that's that's insanity.
[7:36] Speaker 1: You're a face that's on NFL network.
[7:38] Speaker 2: Yes, I do have a face.
[7:41] Speaker 1: Uh.
[7:41] Speaker 4: And we still have the branding and Caleb downs for
[7:45] Speaker 4: all of these Yes, it's like overwrought and Cowboys this
[7:49] Speaker 4: and it's like, okay, so this guy is really good
[7:52] Speaker 4: and he's gonna come in and fix this defense and
[7:53] Speaker 4: make It's just assumed to the extent that like I
[7:57] Speaker 4: haven't felt any conversation. There's more conversation about the coordinator
[8:00] Speaker 4: and the god that's gonna be on the field plan.
[8:01] Speaker 1: We'll be exciting to see him. We might be going
[8:03] Speaker 1: up to Cowboys training camp. Maybe we'll see him in person.
[8:06] Speaker 1: All right. Our next question is from Cheese Tony. We
[8:09] Speaker 1: actually got a couple of questions about Jordan Love and
[8:12] Speaker 1: his rankings, and so I decided to put them in
[8:15] Speaker 1: this one's representing it. What is it about Jordan Love?
[8:19] Speaker 1: Number seventy two in the NFL's top one hundred, left
[8:21] Speaker 1: off the ESPN Top ten quarterbacks list, which is kind
[8:24] Speaker 1: of a compilation of executives from around the league, anonymous executives.
[8:29] Speaker 1: He didn't make their top ten. Is there a Packers
[8:31] Speaker 1: tax on Jordan Love because they quote did it again?
[8:36] Speaker 1: I don't think that's the reason why. I definitely, if anything,
[8:40] Speaker 1: the Packers get more attention than most. We had them
[8:44] Speaker 1: ninth when we drafted quarterbacks, So to me, it's like there,
[8:49] Speaker 1: I would I think it's a solid top nine and
[8:51] Speaker 1: that he's in it for what it's worth, but we're not.
[8:53] Speaker 1: It's no crime that he's like outside of like the
[8:56] Speaker 1: top ten here, I do think for whatever reason, and
[9:00] Speaker 1: he has the reputation of a guy who makes a
[9:02] Speaker 1: lot of big mistakes, and yet that reputation just was
[9:05] Speaker 1: not born out on the field last year and people
[9:07] Speaker 1: are a year behind catching up to the development that
[9:09] Speaker 1: he had specifically in twenty five.
[9:11] Speaker 3: I do I do note though that the question was
[9:14] Speaker 3: about these other two rankings, not yours. I thought you
[9:17] Speaker 3: had him put fairly in your right.
[9:19] Speaker 1: But my point is sort of like, oh, they left
[9:21] Speaker 1: him off the top ten qbs. But it's like we
[9:23] Speaker 1: had him ninth, and I think that was like the
[9:25] Speaker 1: perfect spot for him. He could have been eight, could
[9:27] Speaker 1: have been nine, like you know what I mean. So
[9:28] Speaker 1: it's like two more spots. It's not a big deal.
[9:31] Speaker 3: I mean, I think I do think it's a big
[9:32] Speaker 3: deal when you think about like leaving him out of
[9:34] Speaker 3: a discussion of who is in the top third of
[9:36] Speaker 3: quarterbacks in the NFL, because I absolutely think that Jordan
[9:39] Speaker 3: Love is in the discussion of the top third of
[9:42] Speaker 3: quarterbacks in the NFL. I have maybe a more logical take,
[9:46] Speaker 3: and I also have a Galaxy brain take, which, okay,
[9:48] Speaker 3: you guys like first Galaxy, oy, Galaxy, Okay, let me
[9:56] Speaker 3: see Galaxy First. Let's say if I can walk the
[9:58] Speaker 3: line here. No, my Galaxy brain take is I think
[10:01] Speaker 3: that overall, when a team underperforms relative to expectation, not
[10:07] Speaker 3: only is the quarterback punished, but sometimes the quarterback is
[10:10] Speaker 3: also punished for the coach. Right, They're not grading coaches, right,
[10:15] Speaker 3: they're not saying who are the top ten coaches in
[10:17] Speaker 3: the NFL right now? They're asking about quarterbacks. Well, if
[10:19] Speaker 3: the quarterback is the extension of the head coach and
[10:22] Speaker 3: offensive play caller here, sometimes I would just say the
[10:26] Speaker 3: intrinsic or subconscious bias when you are asking anonymous people
[10:31] Speaker 3: to say things and not worrying about putting their name
[10:33] Speaker 3: on them, then you, as a evaluator or as a
[10:37] Speaker 3: rival or a competitor of said team that's watching them
[10:40] Speaker 3: underperform relative to expectation, maybe are going to project a
[10:44] Speaker 3: little bit and maybe the quarterback gets punished a little
[10:47] Speaker 3: bit more than for the entire team's shortcomings, and that
[10:51] Speaker 3: does include the defense in this case. My more logical
[10:55] Speaker 3: take is, I just think people have a tendency to
[10:59] Speaker 3: firefly toward big mistakes and they crave a succession of
[11:05] Speaker 3: it factor moments. Now, I think, as someone who watched
[11:07] Speaker 3: every single snap of Jordan Love, especially last season, like
[11:10] Speaker 3: I do think he has enough big moments. There are
[11:13] Speaker 3: mistakes too, There are there is some streakiness, and sometimes
[11:16] Speaker 3: the throwing angles don't necessarily look like how could he
[11:19] Speaker 3: possibly make that throw work? And then it works?
[11:21] Speaker 1: Right?
[11:22] Speaker 3: So I think that if you are just looking at
[11:23] Speaker 3: him just a very smaller a smaller sample size, or
[11:26] Speaker 3: if you're not necessarily looking at everything down to down,
[11:29] Speaker 3: snap to snap in the totality of what he is
[11:32] Speaker 3: playing with and all of the circumstances of the game
[11:36] Speaker 3: and the team, then yeah, I think that anyone is
[11:39] Speaker 3: going to be knocked down a little bit more. I
[11:41] Speaker 3: think that Jordan Love is a top ten quarterback. I
[11:43] Speaker 3: think he should be in the top ten on any
[11:45] Speaker 3: list because I think he is in the top third.
[11:49] Speaker 1: Of So you have him over Caleb and jaredy NFL, Well,
[11:52] Speaker 1: you have to tell who's who's like, for instance, on
[11:54] Speaker 1: the ESPN list. Yeah, it doesn't seem too objectionable, like
[11:57] Speaker 1: Herbert and May and dak are ahead of course not okay,
[12:00] Speaker 1: So then it's Goff and Caleb on that specific list
[12:04] Speaker 1: that you would bump out.
[12:05] Speaker 3: I'm going to put him over Caleb for now because
[12:07] Speaker 3: and maybe even Gough because I just think that the
[12:09] Speaker 3: high the ceilings are that much are so high with him.
[12:13] Speaker 1: Those would be the two idea. And I don't know
[12:15] Speaker 1: if they put the honorable mentions in order, but they
[12:16] Speaker 1: had Darnald and Daniels next.
[12:18] Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, I'm with the the logical view of Jordan
[12:23] Speaker 4: In terms of the way that people evaluate things, a
[12:26] Speaker 4: lot of it comes down to.
[12:28] Speaker 2: The apparent talent that we can see on the field.
[12:32] Speaker 4: It would be very much more punitive for Jordan Love
[12:34] Speaker 4: to go in to a game in you know, in
[12:38] Speaker 4: the playoffs in Denver and have the turnovers that Josh
[12:41] Speaker 4: Allen had. But because he's Josh Allen and we can
[12:43] Speaker 4: see him do all these other things that are clear
[12:45] Speaker 4: to people who might have never seen anybody play football,
[12:48] Speaker 4: where it's like, okay, well there's these problems, but I
[12:51] Speaker 4: can see that when Jordan Love does things, he either
[12:53] Speaker 4: makes them look so easy or lackadaisical. There's all the
[12:56] Speaker 4: fade away passes. He gets punished for that. And also
[12:59] Speaker 4: a lot of these off season polls are just analysis
[13:02] Speaker 4: of recency bias itself, Like that's how Lamar ends up
[13:06] Speaker 4: at sixty nine. And to be completely fair to the
[13:08] Speaker 4: folks who administrate the top one hundred, it's not people
[13:11] Speaker 4: getting every single player in the NFL, locking him in
[13:14] Speaker 4: the room and saying, okay, rank, yeah, these players relative
[13:17] Speaker 4: to one another one through one hundred. They get a
[13:19] Speaker 4: list of ten they put Dames down and the math calculates.
[13:22] Speaker 1: However, I think it's I think it's twenty and they
[13:25] Speaker 1: do it during the season.
[13:26] Speaker 3: They do it during the season, and they also don't
[13:28] Speaker 3: get ballots from everybody. And that's again with a lot
[13:30] Speaker 3: of respect for the effort they're trying to do here.
[13:32] Speaker 3: That's a tough thing to do, is get everybody to
[13:34] Speaker 3: something at one time during a football season. But yeah,
[13:38] Speaker 3: to your point, Patrick, I do think that, like I
[13:41] Speaker 3: I think the NFL one hundred is entertaining. I don't
[13:45] Speaker 3: know that we're like we should be thinking about people's
[13:47] Speaker 3: legacy relative to where most.
[13:49] Speaker 1: Of the time of tell what time of the season
[13:51] Speaker 1: that it's administered, which I've found is I think it's
[13:55] Speaker 1: like October November. It's like Lamar Jackson just didn't happen
[13:57] Speaker 1: to be playing football at that point.
[13:59] Speaker 4: So that's why if if I had access to NFL
[14:02] Speaker 4: executives anonymously, I may ask them about how they feel
[14:06] Speaker 4: about certain metrics or systems that we use to evaluate
[14:09] Speaker 4: quarterbacks and then use that to assemble some sort of
[14:12] Speaker 4: model where if I'm the ranker, I'm not passing the
[14:15] Speaker 4: buck onto these unknown names and faces that you know
[14:18] Speaker 4: to be perfectly honest, I'm sitting next to two friends
[14:20] Speaker 4: were affiliated with the league, like it could be anybody,
[14:24] Speaker 4: and then just put put all the data out there
[14:26] Speaker 4: and show us how you're ranking these quarterbacks.
[14:28] Speaker 1: There's a lot of there's a lot of analytics talk
[14:31] Speaker 1: right now in the NBA. You know, these executives not
[14:36] Speaker 1: too worried about the numbers, because the numbers would tell you,
[14:39] Speaker 1: Jordan Love it was right behind the two MVP candidates,
[14:44] Speaker 1: probably best statistical quarterback in the league. All right. The
[14:47] Speaker 1: next question, I like this one from Joe Bert on
[14:50] Speaker 1: Blue Sky Falcons. Why the Falcons? Will the Falcons? If
[14:57] Speaker 1: the Falcons? Who Falcons? And my answer is no, the Falcons.
[15:03] Speaker 4: My answer is yes the Falcon because of my affinity
[15:06] Speaker 4: with the people of Georgia and specifically Atlanta. It's a
[15:09] Speaker 4: franchise that's been through a lot, that's seen a lot
[15:11] Speaker 4: and experienced a lot. Why the Falcons because they're a
[15:15] Speaker 4: football team in a great place with great people. If
[15:19] Speaker 4: the Falcons, that's generally the question, and I don't have
[15:23] Speaker 4: an exceedtion.
[15:23] Speaker 1: I think if it was a multiple choice question, the
[15:26] Speaker 1: answer actually would be why the Falcons. The next question,
[15:29] Speaker 1: what NFL player would be the best sumo wrestler. I think,
[15:34] Speaker 1: you know, I framed this question as that I just,
[15:38] Speaker 1: you know, I had the picture of me on fuji,
[15:40] Speaker 1: so there were a lot of Japanese themed questions. I
[15:43] Speaker 1: went and checked the average sumo wrestlers about three hundred
[15:46] Speaker 1: and fifty pounds. But there's some that are much bigger,
[15:50] Speaker 1: and there are some like slightly skinnier guys that you're like,
[15:54] Speaker 1: how are they going to do it? They don't usually
[15:55] Speaker 1: do that well, but but they they're up there. Anyone
[15:59] Speaker 1: stand out to you, Jordan.
[16:01] Speaker 3: Well, I'm thinking more like quickness and leverage, right, so
[16:05] Speaker 3: I'm thinking interior offensive lineman. I think that's the typical
[16:09] Speaker 3: you know you big guys playing position. Big guys are
[16:12] Speaker 3: sumer wrestling. But I'm more thinking of like power speed
[16:17] Speaker 3: to power footwork. I'm gonna go Miles Garrett here because
[16:21] Speaker 3: I mean, you try stopping that sort of leverage attack.
[16:24] Speaker 3: If Jason Kelcey was still playing, I would probably say
[16:26] Speaker 3: that particular you know, size and height combination and that
[16:32] Speaker 3: I think I just, I mean, he was too small
[16:34] Speaker 3: his whole career.
[16:35] Speaker 1: Greg, Yeah, Oh, I think Garrett is a great choice
[16:40] Speaker 1: because if you get Garrett into the sumo program, you know,
[16:43] Speaker 1: they all live together, they eat a certain type of food.
[16:46] Speaker 1: You can even go there and kind of sample like
[16:48] Speaker 1: what the sumos like. He would have to transform his
[16:51] Speaker 1: body in a way actually that I think most Western
[16:55] Speaker 1: ideals of beauty would say would be a downgrade, like
[16:58] Speaker 1: he would need to add a little, but he absolutely could.
[17:01] Speaker 1: He would have the frame and the athleticism would the
[17:03] Speaker 1: sumos have, it would still be there. That made me
[17:05] Speaker 1: think of, you know, more like how they are now.
[17:09] Speaker 1: I thought more, yeah, offensive lineman, like a mylotta you
[17:12] Speaker 1: would you would think would be. But I also thought, like,
[17:16] Speaker 1: who are the best run stoppers? I think that would
[17:18] Speaker 1: because it's basically who cannot get moved?
[17:21] Speaker 3: Thinking short people who afford.
[17:23] Speaker 1: Derek Brown, I think would be an interesting choice, like
[17:28] Speaker 1: the most I mean, I don't know. I'm no sumo expert,
[17:30] Speaker 1: but I did go last year with Andrew Siciliano, and
[17:32] Speaker 1: I do watch it now. I think not being able
[17:35] Speaker 1: to be moved is like the number one thing you
[17:37] Speaker 1: can have.
[17:38] Speaker 4: Well, it's just the dimensions of the playing surfaces are
[17:40] Speaker 4: so different, and I think being able to have that
[17:43] Speaker 4: explosive long speed is a place where we prioritize somebody
[17:47] Speaker 4: like Miles Garrett, or maybe that's not necessarily the advantage
[17:51] Speaker 4: because by the time you turn that corner for Miles Garrett,
[17:53] Speaker 4: you're sixteen feet outside of the playing surface. For sumo wrestlers,
[17:57] Speaker 4: I did delve into the numbers because the average weight
[18:00] Speaker 4: for champions and this year's events in Tokyo and Osaka
[18:03] Speaker 4: was under three hundred and ten pounds. Really, and Mason
[18:07] Speaker 4: Graham has a storied Wow high school wrestling history. It
[18:11] Speaker 4: was an early and rollee at Michigan, and I think financially,
[18:14] Speaker 4: the way things play out, it's not beneficial for guys
[18:17] Speaker 4: to have that sustained dual sport career once they get
[18:20] Speaker 4: into college. But Lorenzo O'Neil shout out to Lorenzo O'Neil
[18:23] Speaker 4: finished seventh in the NCAA's his senior year in a
[18:26] Speaker 4: two hundred and seventy five pound weight class. So I
[18:30] Speaker 4: think there are some positions stylistically as the game has changed,
[18:34] Speaker 4: maybe we've left behind some people who would have been
[18:36] Speaker 4: able to play very well.
[18:38] Speaker 3: This makes me think, now I had no idea. This
[18:40] Speaker 3: is breaking news to me that under three ten is
[18:43] Speaker 3: now the sort of going rate for champions.
[18:45] Speaker 2: Well, I mean that's just it.
[18:47] Speaker 3: Begs the question. Is sumo wrestling getting moneyballed?
[18:51] Speaker 1: You know, I wonder. I don't know enough. You know,
[18:56] Speaker 1: we got a cute a few of the yakazuna's right now.
[18:59] Speaker 1: You know that are at the higher level. You got
[19:01] Speaker 1: to win a certain amount of tournaments to get there.
[19:04] Speaker 1: Those they're big boys. I would guess they're well over
[19:07] Speaker 1: three ten. I think Quinn Minors would be a good
[19:11] Speaker 1: one at bally going Twinton Nelson, I just think, yeah,
[19:15] Speaker 1: explosive guard play for some reason. Stuff out to me.
[19:18] Speaker 1: Are we going to see Justin Herbert turn into a
[19:22] Speaker 1: top ten quarterback this year? This is from AJJ forty
[19:26] Speaker 1: six on Blue Sky. I'm only mentioning this one because
[19:29] Speaker 1: it sort of was such a slide dig that I
[19:32] Speaker 1: had to approve it, and I was like, is this
[19:35] Speaker 1: a dig? And then I noticed there was a winking
[19:37] Speaker 1: emoji from AJJ forty six, So I see what you're
[19:40] Speaker 1: doing there?
[19:40] Speaker 2: Are we?
[19:41] Speaker 1: You know, I don't know if she's a Herbert hater,
[19:43] Speaker 1: but she is a clay Bon Bond. Yeah, clay Bond Vivon.
[19:47] Speaker 1: I went and checked out her profile to see because
[19:49] Speaker 1: I was seeing like was this a Raiders fan or something?
[19:51] Speaker 1: I think it was an Eagles fan.
[19:53] Speaker 3: She is, but she is a great, great listener, super
[19:57] Speaker 3: nice and we appreciate she listens to the show. She
[20:02] Speaker 3: gives us feedback, and that is hilarious because I do
[20:04] Speaker 3: think she's I think it's a dig at the commentary,
[20:07] Speaker 3: you know. I think it's a dig at the at
[20:09] Speaker 3: the conversation that often.
[20:10] Speaker 4: Happens, and it attaches on to the Justin Herbert if memes. Yeah,
[20:14] Speaker 4: where you know it's you know, fans and supporters of
[20:16] Speaker 4: other quarterbacks and then they say, like the if man
[20:18] Speaker 4: comes up and there's all these graphics in associated But
[20:21] Speaker 4: I think like in terms of the outcomes, he has
[20:24] Speaker 4: a successful year into turning it back to like peak
[20:28] Speaker 4: Brandon Staley time where the.
[20:30] Speaker 2: Chargers were on top of the world.
[20:33] Speaker 4: Yeah, there was a peak Brandon Staley time at one point,
[20:36] Speaker 4: and they're making all these fourth down conversions and everything
[20:38] Speaker 4: is everything is going well, Like they could have a
[20:41] Speaker 4: like to go from a Greg Roman offense to something
[20:44] Speaker 4: that is within the tree. I think is such a
[20:47] Speaker 4: leap forward in terms of football ideology that that you know,
[20:51] Speaker 4: things are gonna be better.
[20:51] Speaker 2: Maybe the if memes will go.
[20:53] Speaker 1: I thought Herbert was great last year. I thought it
[20:54] Speaker 1: was a great season. I really think the two seasons
[20:56] Speaker 1: under Harbaugh have been great. And then the worst games
[20:59] Speaker 1: he's played have been in the playoffs, which is a
[21:01] Speaker 1: pretty significant thing to consider, Like he was legit bad
[21:04] Speaker 1: in those playoff games, but other than that, he was
[21:06] Speaker 1: certainly a top ten quarterback. But I like what you
[21:08] Speaker 1: did there, AJJ. How concerned are you with Washington's offense
[21:12] Speaker 1: right now? This is from the Outback QB podcast on Instagram.
[21:15] Speaker 1: I feel like we haven't talked a lot about Washington's offense,
[21:19] Speaker 1: and so I thought it'd be a good time to
[21:22] Speaker 1: do that.
[21:23] Speaker 4: We'll get to see David Blau in his first time
[21:26] Speaker 4: calling plays with a quarterback that we thought could be
[21:29] Speaker 4: the future of the NFL. I think it's quiet because
[21:31] Speaker 4: we just have no idea and no expectations. After Dan
[21:34] Speaker 4: Quinn kind of seemingly clean's house everywhere. What what are
[21:39] Speaker 4: the out.
[21:39] Speaker 1: I see like the Commanders fans are mad with the
[21:41] Speaker 1: Jaydon Daniels rankings after this. To me, that's just about injuries,
[21:45] Speaker 1: Like can he stay on the field? And he won
[21:47] Speaker 1: in a very unique offense in his rookie year that
[21:51] Speaker 1: his second year he wasn't as effective in. But I
[21:53] Speaker 1: think the offense as a whole, it's a fair question.
[21:55] Speaker 1: Like they like their offensive line, we'll see. I mean,
[21:58] Speaker 1: you have Larry M. Tunzel, you have seen him. You
[22:00] Speaker 1: have talented players, but it's a new offense. If you're
[22:03] Speaker 1: just ranking, if we were doing another you know ranking
[22:06] Speaker 1: of like skill position talent, and you're not counting quarterback
[22:11] Speaker 1: like you're you're just counting running backs, wide receivers, tight ends.
[22:15] Speaker 1: I think it's a pretty bottom group. It's got to
[22:17] Speaker 1: be bottom eight. McLaurin as you're one, you have no
[22:20] Speaker 1: clue who your number two is. It could be Daomie Brown,
[22:22] Speaker 1: it could be the rookie Antonio Williams. You're running backs
[22:25] Speaker 1: Rashad White and Corey Krofsky, Merritt. We like Bill, but
[22:28] Speaker 1: you know Chico Konquos solid at titan, John Bates like.
[22:31] Speaker 1: But it's a lot of questions. I think it's a
[22:33] Speaker 1: fair question to ask that this team in general, to
[22:35] Speaker 1: me is a mystery box.
[22:37] Speaker 3: Yeah, I do. Actually I could buy that their offensive
[22:40] Speaker 3: line might would take a step forward right in terms
[22:43] Speaker 3: they just were they were so banged up, and Cosme
[22:45] Speaker 3: has been banged up, and so getting some stability back
[22:49] Speaker 3: I think will be fine. Obviously, you know, Jaden Daniels
[22:52] Speaker 3: coming back healthy does a lot just to give you
[22:56] Speaker 3: a threat against the defense. But then it's like, outside
[22:59] Speaker 3: of McLaury and like seven slot receivers, who is he
[23:03] Speaker 3: throwing to? How are they going to affect defenses in
[23:06] Speaker 3: a way that really does have depth and dimension. That's
[23:08] Speaker 3: obviously David Blow, new offensive coordinator's problem to sort out.
[23:12] Speaker 3: And then they're gonna ask a lot like they always do,
[23:14] Speaker 3: it seems like to me from their tight ends. But
[23:17] Speaker 3: and I've been a Chico Kong Quo fan, even though
[23:19] Speaker 3: he took a step back in production, I've been a
[23:22] Speaker 3: fan of his. It could be a big year for him.
[23:25] Speaker 3: But it's also like, okay, so are you gonna just
[23:27] Speaker 3: continue to roll out the same things that Cliff Kingsbury
[23:30] Speaker 3: was doing with John Bates and then Zach Ertz. That
[23:34] Speaker 3: was effective to a time, but it really depended on
[23:37] Speaker 3: Anthony Lynn's impact and that run game getting off the
[23:40] Speaker 3: ground the way that it did back before. You know,
[23:43] Speaker 3: Bill's breakout season last year and all of that. So
[23:46] Speaker 3: I just have so many questions. I just I want
[23:49] Speaker 3: to see it. I think we'll get a lot of
[23:50] Speaker 3: answers really quickly from this group. But good or bad.
[23:54] Speaker 3: But I just I have I have a lot of
[23:56] Speaker 3: more so on the fence, questions about pretty much every position.
[24:01] Speaker 1: HI variance group. I mean they could have they have
[24:03] Speaker 1: a high ceiling because they could have a top five
[24:06] Speaker 1: to six quarterback and David Blou could be the next guy.
[24:09] Speaker 1: He's not exactly in the tree, but he's basically part
[24:12] Speaker 1: of the tree. That's the type of offense that he
[24:13] Speaker 1: wants to run.
[24:14] Speaker 4: I just wonder with all the you know, because the
[24:16] Speaker 4: constant Brandon ayukub at all this offseason, why not Stefan Diggs.
[24:21] Speaker 2: Why not just go ahead and get that done? Get
[24:22] Speaker 2: him in there?
[24:23] Speaker 1: Wouldn't surprise me. Have yourself a solid too, That makes sense.
[24:26] Speaker 1: Here's a question, what is the most thing I'm most
[24:30] Speaker 1: grateful for from my trip to Japan? And what is
[24:35] Speaker 1: the best thing I ate the most grateful? You know,
[24:40] Speaker 1: it's cliche, but it's just like the most concentrated family
[24:42] Speaker 1: time I get. I get to be roommates with my
[24:44] Speaker 1: daughter Ellis, who is the coolest person, and best writer
[24:47] Speaker 1: I know, so just the way the rooms line up,
[24:50] Speaker 1: and my in laws, like me and Ellis are are roommates,
[24:52] Speaker 1: and it's cool that she's still cool being roommates with,
[24:55] Speaker 1: you know, with her dad. But the best thing I
[24:58] Speaker 1: ate I did want to tell this story was on
[25:00] Speaker 1: the very top of Mount Fuji. I got we got.
[25:05] Speaker 1: We got there for some reason. We got the hut
[25:07] Speaker 1: at the very top, which was actually like I guess
[25:09] Speaker 1: a little bit of a rookie move, so you know,
[25:11] Speaker 1: you got to climb the whole thing basically quickly. You
[25:13] Speaker 1: got to get up there. I had to almost like
[25:16] Speaker 1: you're supposed to be there by six to get your
[25:18] Speaker 1: dinner or else the kitchen closes supposedly, so I literally
[25:22] Speaker 1: like kind of raced at the very end to get it.
[25:24] Speaker 2: You know.
[25:24] Speaker 1: I was with my friend and his and his son,
[25:27] Speaker 1: and they were like, you should just go up there,
[25:29] Speaker 1: like you're feeling better than us, get up there and
[25:31] Speaker 1: make sure like we're good to still get it. It
[25:33] Speaker 1: was fine. You could have showed up late. People were
[25:34] Speaker 1: shot up seven thirty eight. It's like climbing a mountain.
[25:37] Speaker 1: They just say that to like make you hurried up.
[25:38] Speaker 1: But we got there. And we hadn't pre paid for
[25:41] Speaker 1: the dinner, which was curry, and most everyone is just
[25:44] Speaker 1: buying like five dollars ramen. Those are your only options.
[25:47] Speaker 1: You know, there's no lake, not a lot going on
[25:49] Speaker 1: up there. But they do offer for five, you know,
[25:54] Speaker 1: thousand yen or fifty thousand yen, which is like, you know,
[25:56] Speaker 1: fifty bucks or whatever, some munagi, some eel, and it's
[26:01] Speaker 1: the only place on the entire mountain that took credit cards.
[26:04] Speaker 1: Was there because and I well, at that point we
[26:06] Speaker 1: did not bring enough cash and we needed to save
[26:08] Speaker 1: that cash for the next day for water, and we
[26:12] Speaker 1: still did not have enough, which was a big mistake.
[26:15] Speaker 1: And I'm like, I'll get in that unagi. I'm only
[26:18] Speaker 1: gonna be on that who knows how long I'll be there.
[26:20] Speaker 1: And they were so excited. They're like, oh, they like
[26:23] Speaker 1: you made a good decision. And when they brought it
[26:26] Speaker 1: out and gave it to me, it's a beautiful looking eel,
[26:29] Speaker 1: you know, over rice. Everyone else is just eating their
[26:31] Speaker 1: ramen or whatever. They came out and the entire kitchen
[26:34] Speaker 1: crew cheered for me and said some sort of chance
[26:37] Speaker 1: and they were like, you are the first person to
[26:40] Speaker 1: order the Onagi this year, like thank you and congratulation,
[26:46] Speaker 1: enjoy and they all cheered and there was almost like
[26:48] Speaker 1: a little chance. I'm not even sure what was going
[26:50] Speaker 1: on there, but I was like, I will remember this
[26:53] Speaker 1: moment for the rest of my life, like fucking incredible.
[26:56] Speaker 3: I wonder what everyone else in the restaurant thought.
[26:59] Speaker 1: They were pissed should have been. And it was the
[27:01] Speaker 1: first day it was open. We went up on the
[27:02] Speaker 1: first day it was open. That that was why I
[27:04] Speaker 1: was so close to what I left and everything. And uh,
[27:08] Speaker 1: I was the only person to order that day. And
[27:09] Speaker 1: I think the next morning because we had made a
[27:12] Speaker 1: mistake we didn't pre order like the meals. We hadn't
[27:15] Speaker 1: gotten it and pre ordered any breakfast or anything. And
[27:18] Speaker 1: the guy who took my Unagi order saw me the
[27:20] Speaker 1: next morning. I think he just liked me so much
[27:22] Speaker 1: from ordering it, he just gave me a free breakfast.
[27:25] Speaker 4: That that is so the other diners like the the
[27:32] Speaker 4: the sense of regret that you get when somebody walks
[27:35] Speaker 4: by with like a.
[27:35] Speaker 2: Hot plate of fajitas in the restaurant.
[27:37] Speaker 4: Oh yeah, bad order. Yeah, the absolute most of that.
[27:41] Speaker 4: People climbed all of the mountain. Yeah, And then you
[27:44] Speaker 4: get the applause.
[27:45] Speaker 3: That's next time you summit Mount Fuji, you see your
[27:49] Speaker 3: photo in the restaurant or the eel, and then it
[27:54] Speaker 3: just be Greg's picture.
[27:56] Speaker 1: I also had like the best tasting. He had an
[27:58] Speaker 1: actual restaurant with my father, and yeah, do it up
[28:01] Speaker 1: if you ever go. Next question, who you guys are
[28:06] Speaker 1: supporting for the World Cup? Now this this could be
[28:08] Speaker 1: out of date because Spain is leading as we're taping this.
[28:12] Speaker 1: I apologize for taping a show in the middle of
[28:15] Speaker 1: the World Cup. It's too nothing. I think that that
[28:17] Speaker 1: sounds like we got an upset on our hand. So
[28:19] Speaker 1: let's let's figure Spain wins that thing. There's three teams
[28:23] Speaker 1: left as we're taping, who are you rooting for?
[28:25] Speaker 2: It's coming home? Greg? Come on, you're asking me want
[28:31] Speaker 2: to pick Argentina.
[28:32] Speaker 3: Yeah, well you can pick Spain.
[28:34] Speaker 1: You could pick Spain.
[28:35] Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean I'll go let's go with the comeback here.
[28:39] Speaker 1: Okay, you could be a big enough messy fan that
[28:43] Speaker 1: you just look past all. There are plenty of those
[28:46] Speaker 1: out there, and I get it, you love greatness.
[28:50] Speaker 3: No, no, I think I'm rooting for two of the
[28:53] Speaker 3: three remaining temes to just have a good time.
[28:56] Speaker 1: I'm so small literally and figure itively that even though
[29:01] Speaker 1: I like have so many friends that are British, there
[29:04] Speaker 1: is a part of me that like enjoys them being
[29:07] Speaker 1: like the Charlie Brown and getting the ball pulled away
[29:10] Speaker 1: at the last second. So like, I wouldn't hate it
[29:12] Speaker 1: if we just had a great final, but Spain wins.
[29:14] Speaker 1: I don't have a lot emotionally at Steak, and I
[29:16] Speaker 1: feel bad about that. I should care about my friends.
[29:19] Speaker 4: No, I think if it does come home and you know,
[29:22] Speaker 4: be those that enjoy their time in the British media
[29:27] Speaker 4: rude and disrespectful and dismissive to Jude Bellingham, we'll have
[29:30] Speaker 4: to spend at least two weeks pretending like he's a
[29:33] Speaker 4: decent and valuable athlete.
[29:35] Speaker 1: Then I would be happy, though for Ally Connelly, I
[29:38] Speaker 1: mean I would be happy to remember of the show,
[29:40] Speaker 1: Nat Coombs, my friend will Gab you know, yeah, Data
[29:44] Speaker 1: be over the moon.
[29:45] Speaker 3: I am an incredibly sappy person, you guys now know,
[29:50] Speaker 3: and I there is something that makes my heart just
[29:53] Speaker 3: swell a little bit when I hear them saying hey Jude,
[29:57] Speaker 3: after Jude Bellingham does something amazing. I love chance you
[30:01] Speaker 3: know when they're not hideously offensive, of course, and I
[30:05] Speaker 3: love that England's got songs for everything, and they've got
[30:08] Speaker 3: their little you know, their inside jokes that are born
[30:10] Speaker 3: of pain over many many years. I don't know if
[30:14] Speaker 3: I could fully commit I think that Spain, if you know,
[30:18] Speaker 3: I had a moment when I was I was taking something.
[30:21] Speaker 3: I took a lot of time off. It was wonderful.
[30:24] Speaker 3: And I was watching Spain play at one point, and
[30:28] Speaker 3: they have this player. I'm gonna I'm so sorry to
[30:30] Speaker 3: the fans abroad if I butcher the name of Lamina
[30:32] Speaker 3: Mal who is young and his footwork is insane, and
[30:36] Speaker 3: had I had drank an ipa. So I was feeling
[30:38] Speaker 3: like a little slower than the rest of the world
[30:40] Speaker 3: in general. And I was watching some of his footwork
[30:43] Speaker 3: and I found myself I was standing like a like
[30:47] Speaker 3: a coach watching a team from the sideline five inches
[30:52] Speaker 3: from my TV, staring at this guy as he was
[30:55] Speaker 3: just the footwork and the quickness and the speed, and
[31:00] Speaker 3: it blew my mind. And then I started laughing at
[31:02] Speaker 3: myself because I recognized how ridiculous I must have looked.
[31:05] Speaker 3: And now I'm sharing it with all of you. So
[31:07] Speaker 3: I just I'm having fun watching them play.
[31:09] Speaker 1: I know it's sad. It is sad uh that it's ending.
[31:12] Speaker 1: I was there was a little bit of a negative
[31:14] Speaker 1: being over in Japan. Yeah right here, like the time
[31:16] Speaker 1: zone matched up so perfect. But a lot of my
[31:18] Speaker 1: mornings I'll remember this trip of waking up and watching
[31:21] Speaker 1: like the second half of a World Cup game. It's
[31:23] Speaker 1: already gone.
[31:23] Speaker 2: It was.
[31:24] Speaker 1: It was a beautiful thing. Let's take a quick break
[31:26] Speaker 1: and we'll hit many more football questions after the break
[31:31] Speaker 1: instead of football back on NFL Daily, rolling through your
[31:47] Speaker 1: mail bag questions. Oh George on Instagram asks what is
[31:52] Speaker 1: your biggest head coach? What if you could take you
[31:56] Speaker 1: could interpret this in any way you want?
[31:58] Speaker 2: Patrick?
[31:59] Speaker 3: Uh?
[31:59] Speaker 4: Well, the biggest one I think, because I think he
[32:02] Speaker 4: will go down as the best to ever do it
[32:03] Speaker 4: is what if the Eagles never fired Andy Reid?
[32:06] Speaker 2: Ah, I think the.
[32:09] Speaker 4: Lity of things that happened after that, You know, who
[32:11] Speaker 4: knows if things line up and they get these these
[32:14] Speaker 4: super bowls.
[32:15] Speaker 2: But that that's my big what if.
[32:17] Speaker 4: And then recently, if we make it more recent, if
[32:20] Speaker 4: Ben Johnson had agreed to take the Colt's job in
[32:22] Speaker 4: twenty twenty three. Wow, would they have drafted Anthony Richardson?
[32:26] Speaker 4: Would they have taken Will Levis? H Would you know?
[32:31] Speaker 4: Psycham was able to work magic as Gardner Minshew got
[32:33] Speaker 4: away with it as the season went on, but eventually
[32:35] Speaker 4: he couldn't get away with it any longer, messed up their pick.
[32:37] Speaker 4: The twenty twenty four draft class was incredible. Who would
[32:40] Speaker 4: they have gotten out of that?
[32:41] Speaker 1: It was?
[32:42] Speaker 2: That was a big one.
[32:43] Speaker 1: The Any Reid thing is is crazy because I remember
[32:46] Speaker 1: covering that at the time, and it actually did feel
[32:49] Speaker 1: like it was time. I think he sort of wanted
[32:51] Speaker 1: out for what you know. Now they could have nurtured
[32:53] Speaker 1: that relationship in a different way, but it was one
[32:56] Speaker 1: of those things. Even as it was happening, it was
[32:58] Speaker 1: like this guy's want of the greatest coaches ever, and
[33:01] Speaker 1: yet I understand why this is happening. Maybe they would
[33:04] Speaker 1: have had to maybe choose Andy over Howie or the
[33:06] Speaker 1: kind of the structure that it was going on there,
[33:09] Speaker 1: But it did feel like time. My I love those
[33:11] Speaker 1: what ifs. One that popped to me, I got a
[33:13] Speaker 1: few of these what if John Madden didn't retire?
[33:16] Speaker 3: That was one of mine.
[33:17] Speaker 1: Yeah, So for that books episode, I went back and
[33:22] Speaker 1: read the first John Madden book, which is very readable
[33:24] Speaker 1: and great, like not a surprise, but like it's fun
[33:27] Speaker 1: to read, and he just had it in his head.
[33:30] Speaker 1: He almost retired the year before. He just had it
[33:32] Speaker 1: and said, I wanted to win one hundred games in
[33:35] Speaker 1: my first ten years. It's is just a big round number.
[33:38] Speaker 1: That just sounded good to me, and like me, I
[33:40] Speaker 1: talked about it with my wife and I was like,
[33:42] Speaker 1: I want to get to one hundred in year ten.
[33:44] Speaker 1: No one's ever done that, by the way before, And
[33:46] Speaker 1: so that's what he did and then he retired. Didn't
[33:49] Speaker 1: have a great final season as compared to his others,
[33:51] Speaker 1: but he finished one hundred and three and thirty two.
[33:54] Speaker 1: He was forty two years old when he retired. I mean,
[33:57] Speaker 1: I know Sean McVay came in as like a boy
[34:00] Speaker 1: wonder and had a lot of success. He wasn't one
[34:02] Speaker 1: hundred and three and thirty two and retiring at forty two.
[34:04] Speaker 1: That is outrageous. So I hope he doesn't retire at
[34:06] Speaker 1: forty two. That was yours, well, that was one of mine.
[34:09] Speaker 3: Another of mine was like super super niche But I'm
[34:12] Speaker 3: curious to hear what you guys, think about this, because
[34:14] Speaker 3: you remember very much the dialogue and discussion that immediately
[34:18] Speaker 3: started after this. But what if Dan Campbell didn't go
[34:21] Speaker 3: for it successfully as much on fourth down early in
[34:24] Speaker 3: his tenure and in his head coaching tenure, because we
[34:28] Speaker 3: really started talking about that, not only because he was
[34:32] Speaker 3: doing it successfully, but also because he wasn't out there saying,
[34:37] Speaker 3: you know, we are looking at this specific probability every
[34:41] Speaker 3: single time. Instead, he was combining a lot of information
[34:45] Speaker 3: into one decision. I wonder how all of that conversation.
[34:50] Speaker 3: Maybe it would have delayed until this year or whatever year,
[34:53] Speaker 3: but he sort of is the face I want to say,
[34:57] Speaker 3: of restarting that modern conversation of situational football analytics, analytics
[35:03] Speaker 3: in football, and as infuriating as those conversations can sometimes be,
[35:10] Speaker 3: especially when you're listening to your television broadcast, other than
[35:13] Speaker 3: when Greg Olsen talks about it because he's great, I
[35:16] Speaker 3: think that it's he really inadvertently ushered in, like another way,
[35:21] Speaker 3: of of the larger collective thinking about it. When a
[35:25] Speaker 3: lot of really smart people you know, obviously already were.
[35:27] Speaker 1: He was the perfect representative to do it. I think
[35:29] Speaker 1: it was inevitable that because it was just coming. It
[35:31] Speaker 1: was creeping that way all along, and he was the
[35:33] Speaker 1: perfect manly guy to take it.
[35:36] Speaker 3: I was gonna say, that's my That was my other question.
[35:38] Speaker 3: I'm curious if if like someone who didn't look like
[35:40] Speaker 3: he could like step on you or put you through
[35:43] Speaker 3: a wall, like if he didn't look like that, would
[35:45] Speaker 3: it have been as a fact, that's an I'm just
[35:47] Speaker 3: I think so.
[35:48] Speaker 1: I think I think I honestly would have because I
[35:50] Speaker 1: do think like it's a question that I've been tired
[35:52] Speaker 1: of hearing on broadcasts since the late like oughts, and
[35:57] Speaker 1: so I think it was just a natural progressive and uh,
[36:01] Speaker 1: he did a little extra, but there were others that
[36:03] Speaker 1: did an extra too. It would have happened, but he
[36:05] Speaker 1: was the perfect vessel I feel like to make it happen.
[36:09] Speaker 1: Another one I had. And this is more of like
[36:10] Speaker 1: a player thing, but it's it's a way we think
[36:12] Speaker 1: about coaches. Uh, what if Philip Rivers didn't tear his
[36:15] Speaker 1: acl in the Divisional round against the Colts? Would North
[36:20] Speaker 1: Turner be a Super Bowl winning head coach for the
[36:23] Speaker 1: San Diego Chargers. I believe he would.
[36:25] Speaker 2: Yeah, they were in the Patriots game with a torn
[36:28] Speaker 2: A in the AFC.
[36:29] Speaker 1: I think they would have been the Patriots. They would
[36:31] Speaker 1: have been the The Patriots were getting rickety by that.
[36:33] Speaker 1: If you really look at their last handful of games,
[36:36] Speaker 1: they were feeling they were feeling the pressure. North Turner
[36:39] Speaker 1: also had like a thirteen and three season great offensive coordinator.
[36:42] Speaker 1: Justice for north Turner's.
[36:43] Speaker 3: I'm probably a little rusty at it, but I used
[36:45] Speaker 3: to do a great north Turner impression.
[36:46] Speaker 1: Okay, I mean impression. You literally can't say that without
[36:52] Speaker 1: doing it. Let's do it.
[36:53] Speaker 3: Oh, I don't know.
[36:56] Speaker 2: I'll take it. I'll take you. Yeah, that's so long,
[36:59] Speaker 2: that's it.
[37:00] Speaker 3: Nor good to be here.
[37:03] Speaker 1: Yeah, what if John Gruden wasn't found to be like
[37:06] Speaker 1: a huge racist at virtually any time other time in
[37:09] Speaker 1: our country's history. That was actually the one time where
[37:12] Speaker 1: it caught him. So yeah, yeah, he what would have
[37:14] Speaker 1: happened with rs of that time?
[37:16] Speaker 4: He found the like the three month timeframe, but it
[37:20] Speaker 4: generally works out for you could be the wealthiest person
[37:22] Speaker 4: on the history.
[37:23] Speaker 1: He's doing fine. Does your boss leaving work affect productivity?
[37:28] Speaker 1: Cough cough. Seahawks talking about the ownership change, I don't
[37:33] Speaker 1: think it's gonna matter at all. Yeah, No, I'm I
[37:36] Speaker 1: guess there is an outcome where they're bad owners that
[37:39] Speaker 1: want to get super involved and mess it up. And
[37:43] Speaker 1: I guess that could be a problem. The previous ownership
[37:46] Speaker 1: was already hands off before Paul Allen died, and then
[37:49] Speaker 1: really was hands off. It's why I often said Pete
[37:51] Speaker 1: Carroll I thought was the most powerful coach in the NFL,
[37:55] Speaker 1: one of the most powerful people. He was essentially an
[37:57] Speaker 1: acting owner. Now it's been John Schneider. But I don't
[38:00] Speaker 1: think it's gonna matter.
[38:01] Speaker 4: No, I don't think they would have bought the team
[38:03] Speaker 4: if it wasn't like a senator and forget it type circumstance.
[38:07] Speaker 4: They can just have a you know, financial space to
[38:11] Speaker 4: where other purchases may be able to be offset by
[38:14] Speaker 4: this one.
[38:15] Speaker 3: Don Hyder's team maybe.
[38:17] Speaker 1: Which is yeah, and they both got extension they're good,
[38:20] Speaker 1: which is more likely. Kyler Murray Oarns earns a Malik
[38:24] Speaker 1: ish Willis contractor or better, or ends the season on
[38:30] Speaker 1: injured reserve and or never sees top QB money or
[38:32] Speaker 1: an extended starter gig. Again this from Chris Klein and Blusk.
[38:36] Speaker 3: I tend to think the former. I think that he
[38:39] Speaker 3: at the minimum, could potentially earn maybe the last, you know,
[38:43] Speaker 3: big contract or multi year extension of his career, depending
[38:47] Speaker 3: on how the season goes in Minnesota. I am curious
[38:50] Speaker 3: if it starts to go very well. You know, we've
[38:53] Speaker 3: seen Minnesota fumble that decision before, so I'm very curious
[38:56] Speaker 3: about how that would go. Obviously, the age and the
[38:59] Speaker 3: injury history with Kyler are much different questions than they
[39:03] Speaker 3: were necessarily having about like Sam Darnold or Daniel Jones.
[39:06] Speaker 3: That was more of a talent question. With Kyler, I
[39:09] Speaker 3: think we see that the ceiling can be very, very high.
[39:12] Speaker 3: This is one of the most This is one of
[39:14] Speaker 3: the situations I'm most curious about entering the season. I
[39:17] Speaker 3: feel like, I know it's going to look cool if
[39:19] Speaker 3: everyone's healthy, but I don't know exactly what type of
[39:22] Speaker 3: cool it's going to look like.
[39:24] Speaker 1: Yeah, I think Murray and that team is fascinating. They
[39:27] Speaker 1: have a huge variance. He has a chance, like Maliquist,
[39:30] Speaker 1: to be a number one overall free agent on my list.
[39:32] Speaker 1: If the Vikings can't get him resigned and he is
[39:35] Speaker 1: playing well, I think it's very likely that he gets
[39:40] Speaker 1: a good contract. Again.
[39:42] Speaker 2: Yeah, I am hopeful for the former.
[39:44] Speaker 4: I unfortunately feel like the latter based on the circumstances
[39:47] Speaker 4: where if you do get hurt and you're a Kyler Murray,
[39:50] Speaker 4: you are too talented to live in that forever backup
[39:54] Speaker 4: quarterback circumstance that a lot of guys are in, and
[39:56] Speaker 4: there's this, well, if we bring in Kyler, then there's
[39:59] Speaker 4: all this conversation and does he make our starter feel worried?
[40:02] Speaker 4: And these circumstances where he it's either like he maintains
[40:07] Speaker 4: his career and he's a starting quarterback or I worry
[40:10] Speaker 4: that Kyler just won't be in the league anymore like
[40:12] Speaker 4: a lot of other talented guys.
[40:14] Speaker 1: He and that Maliquylist contract is sort of in between
[40:16] Speaker 1: starter and not starter, So that makes it an easier
[40:19] Speaker 1: answer for yeah too. How much longer is the forty
[40:21] Speaker 1: nine ers contention window? This is from TMP on Blue Sky.
[40:25] Speaker 1: I like this one. I just assume Shanny pieces out
[40:28] Speaker 1: after Trent Williams, CMC, Christian McCaffrey, and George Kittle are done.
[40:33] Speaker 1: It's hard to see him stick through a rebuild. Well,
[40:37] Speaker 1: first of all, I think they could contend after those
[40:40] Speaker 1: three guys and Warner are done. Like, I just think
[40:42] Speaker 1: he's that good a coach. But it's a fair point
[40:45] Speaker 1: that it's maybe two years left with at most with
[40:47] Speaker 1: like kind of that core. I don't know, Like, I
[40:51] Speaker 1: don't know if he'll ever want to leave. I think
[40:53] Speaker 1: he'll be like his dad, where you got to kick
[40:55] Speaker 1: him out, like you gotta essentially get fired. Yeah, he's
[40:58] Speaker 1: got a great situation.
[40:59] Speaker 3: Let go or be dragged right as the saying goes,
[41:02] Speaker 3: I think this is an interesting question because I understand
[41:05] Speaker 3: where it's coming from. It is such a top heavy roster.
[41:08] Speaker 3: It's been top heavy for a long time. What I
[41:10] Speaker 3: think the question is kind of missing, though, is they've
[41:12] Speaker 3: been rebuilding underneath it for quite some time, even at
[41:15] Speaker 3: the detriment of some of these guys that can't see
[41:17] Speaker 3: the field, that they've tried to draft and develop, and
[41:19] Speaker 3: the best thing for them is I'm thinking of a
[41:21] Speaker 3: couple of alignment they've had, you know, would be to
[41:23] Speaker 3: get on the field and play, but for often for better.
[41:27] Speaker 3: Some of these old guys just aren't done yet. And
[41:29] Speaker 3: they aren't done yet and it's very productive for the team,
[41:32] Speaker 3: but at some point they will be done. And so
[41:35] Speaker 3: I do think, yeah, one or two years with this
[41:37] Speaker 3: particular top heavy core. But I do think they the
[41:41] Speaker 3: question of him not being around for a rebuild, I
[41:44] Speaker 3: think is not the right question, because they've already been
[41:48] Speaker 3: partially rebuilding pretty much every year for the last two
[41:51] Speaker 3: at least two off seasons.
[41:53] Speaker 1: They need to draft better, though, They need to find
[41:55] Speaker 1: their next guys, And that's why I think it's much
[41:58] Speaker 1: more likely that John Lynchley at some point in Danny
[42:01] Speaker 1: states because I just can't imagine Jed York ever wanting
[42:05] Speaker 1: to fire Kyle Shannon. I guess you never know.
[42:08] Speaker 3: I mean, this was it was interesting. This was the
[42:11] Speaker 3: first off season that we started hearing I think a
[42:14] Speaker 3: little bit more like Kyle was actually asked, would you
[42:17] Speaker 3: ever do broadcasting? You know what I mean? Like those
[42:19] Speaker 3: little thing when those little things start coming out, especially
[42:22] Speaker 3: after the coach has already gotten paid, that's interesting to me,
[42:25] Speaker 3: Like what do you know that you're asking that question?
[42:27] Speaker 1: Would he ever take a break? Because he's still a
[42:29] Speaker 1: young in terms of coaching a young man, and so
[42:34] Speaker 1: he is what forty six right now, so me were
[42:37] Speaker 1: the same age, and uh yeah, he could take He
[42:40] Speaker 1: could take a year off at some point and still
[42:42] Speaker 1: have a lot of good years.
[42:43] Speaker 4: Left, Like I guess my follow up question though to
[42:46] Speaker 4: these questions is would Kyle Shanahan rather take a year
[42:50] Speaker 4: off or have Jed York walk in and say, hey,
[42:53] Speaker 4: can we have a conversation about John Lynch and how
[42:56] Speaker 4: you feel he's performing Because some of these Wiggley John
[42:58] Speaker 4: Lynch picks do we feel like Kyle may have heavily
[43:02] Speaker 4: influenced those, So like, whose picks?
[43:04] Speaker 2: Are those really the same? Right?
[43:06] Speaker 1: It's the same thing. It's all the same as happened
[43:08] Speaker 1: with his dad, which is also why, like I think
[43:10] Speaker 1: if John if he didn't want John Lynch to be there,
[43:13] Speaker 1: I don't think John Lynch would be there. So I
[43:15] Speaker 1: I consider their relationship to be good enough. You know,
[43:20] Speaker 1: if he is there, I think I think there.
[43:23] Speaker 3: I think they have a really really really strong relationship
[43:26] Speaker 3: and a lot of collaboration, even if we see little
[43:28] Speaker 3: clips on social media about someone not seeming to know
[43:31] Speaker 3: what's going on in the draft.
[43:32] Speaker 1: Room and in John Lynch, I think it's a really
[43:35] Speaker 1: important skill set. There aren't that many coach first organizations,
[43:41] Speaker 1: so you need your GM in that situation to serve
[43:46] Speaker 1: the head coach and be okay with that and I
[43:47] Speaker 1: think John Lynch does that. I think they work well together.
[43:51] Speaker 1: We got a question, will Max Crosby be traded before
[43:53] Speaker 1: the season begins? This is a quick one, that's a
[43:55] Speaker 1: non starter. I don't. I just don't think that is happening.
[43:58] Speaker 1: Mary kay Caine asked, do you like podcasting? I guess
[44:01] Speaker 1: this one is for me because it's the only place
[44:04] Speaker 1: in your life that people listen to your opinions. Is
[44:10] Speaker 1: that a shot? You think that's a shot?
[44:13] Speaker 2: I don't. I don't think it's a shot.
[44:15] Speaker 1: I mean, oh, they listen. If they didn't listen, they
[44:18] Speaker 1: wouldn't be in my life.
[44:20] Speaker 3: An existential question, yes, yeah.
[44:23] Speaker 1: I mean that's the hardest no ever though, Yeah, like
[44:27] Speaker 1: you're getting the opinions?
[44:29] Speaker 3: Yeah, do you really think you could silence this man?
[44:32] Speaker 3: Take the mic away and he's still going?
[44:36] Speaker 1: And it was a similar one. Did you miss talking
[44:37] Speaker 1: about the NFL and death during your time away? That
[44:40] Speaker 1: was from Ivan mtz on on I g I do
[44:45] Speaker 1: bring up mortality sometimes within the family doesn't go over
[44:50] Speaker 1: like as well. I gotta be careful about it, but
[44:53] Speaker 1: we talk about we talk about the meaning of life
[44:54] Speaker 1: in the family. You gotta you gotta pick your spots
[44:57] Speaker 1: when you're talking to kids about that. But it's it's
[44:59] Speaker 1: not about I'll say that.
[45:01] Speaker 3: I'd say I learned a lot about grief this offseason,
[45:04] Speaker 3: and I think that for me personally, and everybody's different.
[45:08] Speaker 3: Everybody carries it differently and learns to live around it. Essentially,
[45:12] Speaker 3: is what I've learned is is really what it is,
[45:15] Speaker 3: and man found I found some real clarity and really
[45:20] Speaker 3: just not pushing it aside, if that makes sense, and
[45:23] Speaker 3: not and not making myself busy to distract and not
[45:29] Speaker 3: in not running away from it or avoiding it and
[45:31] Speaker 3: just sort of like being there with it in the room.
[45:35] Speaker 3: And I think, like I'm I'm kind of amazed by
[45:39] Speaker 3: that entire experience, to be honest.
[45:41] Speaker 1: Yeah, it's it's the universal experience. Everyone will go through
[45:47] Speaker 1: it literally at some point, but they're you're gonna go
[45:51] Speaker 1: through it with someone close to them at some point,
[45:54] Speaker 1: and it's it's weird because it makes you feel alive
[45:58] Speaker 1: in a different way because it's just like the most
[46:02] Speaker 1: human thing that can that can happen. And Yeah, I
[46:05] Speaker 1: learned a lot from Lakeisha Wesseling, Uh, wife of Chris
[46:09] Speaker 1: whose name is on this studio because she she really
[46:13] Speaker 1: kind of as you're saying, like she loved talking about Chris,
[46:15] Speaker 1: she loved talking about what she was going through and
[46:18] Speaker 1: it makes you feel closer. And I think that's important
[46:22] Speaker 1: when when it comes to grief, everyone's going to go
[46:24] Speaker 1: through it, but like you said, people go through it
[46:27] Speaker 1: in different ways. Speaking of grief, what a transition.
[46:33] Speaker 3: He's back, He's so back.
[46:36] Speaker 1: Jonathan Gannon went through a lot last year.
[46:39] Speaker 3: Oh my god.
[46:42] Speaker 1: What can Packers fans expect from Jonathan Gannon as defensive coordinator?
[46:46] Speaker 4: I think right the the issues in Arizona, a lot
[46:50] Speaker 4: of them are related to the talent on the team.
[46:53] Speaker 1: Fair Okay, But the second part of this question I
[46:55] Speaker 1: want to point out was good context from Matthew Propes
[46:57] Speaker 1: on a Blue Sky. I know he had success in
[46:59] Speaker 1: phil but every Eagles fan I know hates him and
[47:02] Speaker 1: his Gladdy.
[47:03] Speaker 4: Well, there's a couple of things I was gonna say,
[47:06] Speaker 4: where do we start? Okay, hit me list of people
[47:10] Speaker 4: and players that every Eagles fan I know hates and
[47:13] Speaker 4: is glad he left. Also, like we just had the
[47:17] Speaker 4: Indie Ross quession. Yeah, like it's it's it's everybody. At
[47:20] Speaker 4: a certain point. We just watched the greatest home run
[47:22] Speaker 4: derby I've seen in the past fifteen years. The chairman
[47:25] Speaker 4: was getting booed in Philadelphia while it was happening.
[47:28] Speaker 1: One of two Super Bowl winning defensive coordinators in the
[47:31] Speaker 1: history of the organization, Jonathan Gannon, So you you wouldn't
[47:34] Speaker 1: think you would be so.
[47:34] Speaker 3: I think there's there's only if I was actually I
[47:37] Speaker 3: was going back and thinking about this, and I was, like,
[47:39] Speaker 3: of people who have left the organization, I actually cannot
[47:43] Speaker 3: think of one. Maybe and I don't remember. I don't
[47:48] Speaker 3: think he was even at the court. Was he at
[47:49] Speaker 3: the coordinator level? Ssichen Maybe just quarterbacks you're passing. I
[47:52] Speaker 3: don't remember. But I think they only just don't hate
[47:56] Speaker 3: him because they they never really paid attention to him,
[48:00] Speaker 3: and he was there. I mean, and he's not a
[48:01] Speaker 3: hatterable guy, let me be clear, But I cannot think.
[48:04] Speaker 3: My point is I could not think of somebody that
[48:06] Speaker 3: Eagles fans don't hate for leaving them.
[48:08] Speaker 1: Is that, I would say, fair like even even the
[48:12] Speaker 1: great players, like they always come back around pretty quickly.
[48:15] Speaker 1: Like but they hated Shady McCoy when he left, but
[48:18] Speaker 1: then they loved him pretty soon after that once they
[48:21] Speaker 1: got to like look back at at the times. Gannon
[48:24] Speaker 1: is a weird case though, because his scheme was often
[48:29] Speaker 1: very Vanilla, had a lot of talent in that and
[48:33] Speaker 1: they felt like they underperformed a little at times. Yeah,
[48:36] Speaker 1: and they ended up winning the Super Bowl. It was
[48:39] Speaker 1: the opposite in Arizona, which I think was the impact
[48:41] Speaker 1: also of his staff and Nick Rollis where they were
[48:44] Speaker 1: super creative, like the opposite of Vanilla. But he's like
[48:49] Speaker 1: not maybe great in front of a room, so he's
[48:53] Speaker 1: not like that guy either, But is he a scheme wizard?
[48:56] Speaker 1: And yet if you talk to people in the Eagles organization,
[48:59] Speaker 1: they loved Jonathan Gannon. I think the people that have
[49:02] Speaker 1: worked with him and the generally players have pretty high
[49:05] Speaker 1: opinions of them, so that that should count for something.
[49:07] Speaker 2: He's a confusing guy, yeah, Cotes.
[49:10] Speaker 3: As as do we all. I think that this is
[49:15] Speaker 3: I think probably somewhere in the middle of both systems
[49:17] Speaker 3: that you saw, or both at least game plans that
[49:21] Speaker 3: you saw, because I do think that Jonathan Gannon is
[49:24] Speaker 3: obviously not going to have especially right away. He will
[49:27] Speaker 3: have Micah Parsons eventually, but in the short term is
[49:31] Speaker 3: going to be a little bit more scheme reliant like
[49:34] Speaker 3: we saw in Arizona, and I think this McDuffie signing
[49:37] Speaker 3: was really sort of a tell on some of what
[49:39] Speaker 3: they're going to be planning on doing, because you notice
[49:42] Speaker 3: that when he was in Arizona, and he didn't necessarily have,
[49:46] Speaker 3: you know, pass rushers, he could always rely on and
[49:49] Speaker 3: really keep the coverage complicated behind them. He would design
[49:52] Speaker 3: and manufacture different types of pressures, certain odd fronts, things
[49:56] Speaker 3: like that, using linebackers, using defensive backs, using more of
[50:00] Speaker 3: those hybrid players. So I think that's something that's that's
[50:03] Speaker 3: a tell for what you might see in the short
[50:04] Speaker 3: term when Micah Parsons comes back. Then you can open
[50:08] Speaker 3: up and do things that might might truly look a
[50:11] Speaker 3: little bit more simple honestly, but then allows the coverage
[50:15] Speaker 3: to set up the way that he wants it. Behind that,
[50:17] Speaker 3: I do know you're gonna see a lot of match zone,
[50:20] Speaker 3: which is fun because because I think Packers fans who
[50:23] Speaker 3: are really going crazy over the fact that sometimes they
[50:25] Speaker 3: couldn't see their cornerbacks on the TV screen because they
[50:28] Speaker 3: were playing so off in that shell zone that that
[50:32] Speaker 3: you know, Joe Barry ran and and that a lot
[50:34] Speaker 3: of this the coaches from the Tree like to have
[50:37] Speaker 3: because they want a limit explosive so that they can
[50:39] Speaker 3: then be more aggressive with their own explosives. On the
[50:41] Speaker 3: other side, Offensively, you give up the time battle. In
[50:44] Speaker 3: that case, I could go on about this for an
[50:47] Speaker 3: entire show. If we don't want to do that. The
[50:50] Speaker 3: The other thing is, I think that you're gonna the
[50:52] Speaker 3: more the more confidence he has in the defensive backs,
[50:56] Speaker 3: and they've been sort of rebuilding that defensive backfield a
[50:59] Speaker 3: little bit more confidence he has, the more complicated you're
[51:02] Speaker 3: going to see. And he's one of those coordinators that
[51:05] Speaker 3: if he's confident, he's gonna throw heat like you're not
[51:08] Speaker 3: going to see him stay within one set of rules
[51:10] Speaker 3: just because that's how he always plays. If he believes
[51:14] Speaker 3: in in in the abilities or he thinks someone can
[51:16] Speaker 3: move around like, he's gonna throw some heat at these I.
[51:19] Speaker 1: Don't think it's that talented a defense, even when Micah
[51:21] Speaker 1: Parsons is there, I think they'll have to schew it up.
[51:23] Speaker 3: I just think my only point it's.
[51:26] Speaker 1: Kind of talented. I mean, I'm just saying if you
[51:28] Speaker 1: line them all up, I would say they'd be below average. Sure.
[51:31] Speaker 3: My only point is that when you add the best
[51:33] Speaker 3: pass rusher on the planet to a defense, it's probably
[51:36] Speaker 3: going to get better.
[51:37] Speaker 1: No, I'm supporting what you're saying that. I think he's
[51:39] Speaker 1: gonna have to be creative. I think he also just
[51:40] Speaker 1: suffered in Philly that he was not Jim Johnson, who's
[51:43] Speaker 1: probably on the Mount Rushmore of most beloved coordinators of
[51:48] Speaker 1: all time anywhere. Yeah, and he was not Vic Fangio.
[51:51] Speaker 1: And he's not Jim Schwartz either. Like so, it's just
[51:54] Speaker 1: they've had a, you know, just a high, high level
[51:58] Speaker 1: of these defensive coordinators that have been there.
[52:00] Speaker 3: Yes, they are a wealth of riches there with their
[52:03] Speaker 3: with their dcs.
[52:04] Speaker 1: Will should the NFL make guardian caps mandatory? Question? I'm Anya,
[52:09] Speaker 1: a trans girl fan. I love y'all. Shout out to
[52:13] Speaker 1: our trans listeners out there. We love y'all too, Love
[52:16] Speaker 1: you guys. Tough, tough question. I don't have an answer
[52:19] Speaker 1: to this. I don't. I don't. I don't think so,
[52:22] Speaker 1: But I don't know.
[52:23] Speaker 2: Yeah, I don't know either.
[52:25] Speaker 4: I know there's some data that you know, exemplifies and
[52:29] Speaker 4: justifies the use, you know, as we get closer to
[52:33] Speaker 4: you know, in a goal to trying to make football safe.
[52:36] Speaker 4: At a certain point, it becomes like should we be
[52:39] Speaker 4: playing football at all? I think that's the question that
[52:42] Speaker 4: this kind of leads us down. But to to make
[52:45] Speaker 4: it mandatory, I think requires a whole bunch of other
[52:48] Speaker 4: steps that we could be taking in other places. But
[52:52] Speaker 4: if it, if it actually does make football safer, then it.
[52:57] Speaker 1: So far and I think they still need more research.
[52:59] Speaker 1: But I think the ideas like it. It does reduce
[53:01] Speaker 1: the impact of hits period, but not necessarily just the
[53:05] Speaker 1: amount of concussions, and so it's a little imperfect in
[53:10] Speaker 1: terms of the data that's out there. Let's go to
[53:12] Speaker 1: uh Andy on Ig who says, what do you think
[53:16] Speaker 1: the ceiling is for Tyler Shuck this year? I thought
[53:19] Speaker 1: asking ceiling is interesting Jordan, just because to me, he's
[53:23] Speaker 1: a high variance guy, and which I don't know if
[53:26] Speaker 1: he if people are thinking about him that way. Where
[53:29] Speaker 1: I do think the ceiling when it all is hitting
[53:33] Speaker 1: might be pretty damn high. But it could be rocky.
[53:37] Speaker 1: It could like in a it could be big ups,
[53:39] Speaker 1: big downs, because he's he's gonna get his throes in,
[53:42] Speaker 1: He's he's gonna he's gonna either make some big mistakes
[53:46] Speaker 1: or make some big plays.
[53:47] Speaker 3: I don't think, though, I think the system as it
[53:50] Speaker 3: continues to be constructed, I'm starting to see a little
[53:53] Speaker 3: bit more of the steps in the progression that Kellen
[53:55] Speaker 3: Moore wants to do with that offense, and certainly at
[53:58] Speaker 3: the personnel they've added. They've added a couple of more
[54:00] Speaker 3: guys who will be layers within that passing game. They
[54:05] Speaker 3: clearly feel, like, you know, trying to mitigate some of
[54:08] Speaker 3: the things that would cause him to be streaky, whether
[54:11] Speaker 3: that's pressure, giving him outlets, solidifying or at least identifying
[54:15] Speaker 3: like who the personnel is going to be in the
[54:17] Speaker 3: run game. I can actually see them as they are
[54:22] Speaker 3: constructing this offseason and adding or subtracting in some cases
[54:27] Speaker 3: sort of leveling out where they think he might have
[54:29] Speaker 3: some of those those variants issues come in because I
[54:32] Speaker 3: do think the ceiling is incredibly high. I don't have
[54:35] Speaker 3: a one to one comp. I try to stay away
[54:36] Speaker 3: from comps from like really young, really young quarterbacks. I
[54:39] Speaker 3: think those gets you into a lot of trouble. But
[54:42] Speaker 3: I liked him because I thought he saw the field
[54:45] Speaker 3: really well. He has the bit like the size and
[54:48] Speaker 3: the arm talent of an NFL starting quarterback. And I
[54:52] Speaker 3: think that again, getting rid of some of the factors
[54:56] Speaker 3: in any trademark of a good play caller and a
[54:58] Speaker 3: good offensive designer is going to be trying to at
[55:02] Speaker 3: least re level or set a higher floor for some
[55:05] Speaker 3: of those things that would cause the streakiness we did
[55:07] Speaker 3: see from some of his college tape. And I'm also
[55:09] Speaker 3: less worried about the injuries now than I was when
[55:11] Speaker 3: he came out because of how how good he looked
[55:13] Speaker 3: when he when he was playing.
[55:15] Speaker 1: All right, we're getting towards the end here. Let's speed
[55:17] Speaker 1: around these rests. All right, This one I don't have
[55:21] Speaker 1: who it's from, but the question was the Rams are
[55:23] Speaker 1: back all in f them picks mode. But the backup
[55:27] Speaker 1: situation has echoes of the Brett Rippon travesty who had
[55:31] Speaker 1: to play for them in.
[55:32] Speaker 3: A meaningful This has got to be a diehard Rams.
[55:34] Speaker 1: Yes, are they?
[55:35] Speaker 3: That's a poll right there?
[55:36] Speaker 1: Are they really going to go with Stetson, Bennett or
[55:40] Speaker 1: Simpson during a pivotal year or is there a nod
[55:43] Speaker 1: in wink agreement with Jimmy.
[55:44] Speaker 4: G Yeah, I agree one hundred percent. It does have
[55:47] Speaker 4: echoes of the Brett Rippon travesty because these any of
[55:51] Speaker 4: these situations, Yeah, things like that.
[55:53] Speaker 1: Why are you where we've gotten so far that you
[55:56] Speaker 1: can't trust the number thirteen overall him picking the draft
[55:59] Speaker 1: to be your best quarterback? I should hope that number
[56:02] Speaker 1: thirteen overall pick can be your backup quarterback. I don't
[56:04] Speaker 1: think that's crazy at all. If you can't coach up
[56:07] Speaker 1: your first round quarterback to at least feel like he
[56:10] Speaker 1: can be a backup, it's like, what are we doing?
[56:12] Speaker 2: What if he's only in the first round because that's
[56:14] Speaker 2: where you picked.
[56:15] Speaker 1: Him, right, I get it, But you believe in you
[56:17] Speaker 1: believe in him enough to take him there. I think
[56:20] Speaker 1: I think you can have a number thirteen overall pick
[56:22] Speaker 1: me your backup. Come down to top, Trevor, what coordinators
[56:25] Speaker 1: are you the most excited for in twenty twenty six
[56:28] Speaker 1: Speed round? Here? Jordan, I don't know if you got any,
[56:30] Speaker 1: I'll throw out I have a bunch, okay, Deronte Jones
[56:34] Speaker 1: I throughout the defensive coordinator? Can he be the next
[56:36] Speaker 1: Flores in Washington? Declan Doyle in Baltimore? Your guy Clayton
[56:41] Speaker 1: Adams year two and that.
[56:43] Speaker 3: Christian Parker Clayton Adams combo and Dallas. Sean Mannion now
[56:47] Speaker 3: pairing with Vic Fangio and Philadelphia. I think there's some
[56:50] Speaker 3: interesting potential to that. I think that's going to look
[56:52] Speaker 3: more like a Lafleoor tight end heavy well, you know,
[56:56] Speaker 3: twelve personnel version of that offense, the necessary like the
[57:00] Speaker 3: rest of the tree. Quote unquote Mike McDaniel, come on,
[57:04] Speaker 3: I mean we all were, and I want him micd
[57:06] Speaker 3: up for every game. And also Patrick Graham is now
[57:08] Speaker 3: in Pittsburgh and that dude throws heat. I am really
[57:11] Speaker 3: excited to see what that looks like.
[57:13] Speaker 4: Yeah, it's it's Mike mac Obviously, I would like to
[57:16] Speaker 4: see Declan Doyle. But congratulations to Justin Herbert and liberating them.
[57:19] Speaker 1: From Chris and Massachusetts rates. I have no question. I
[57:23] Speaker 1: just want you to know I'm glad you got to
[57:24] Speaker 1: get vacation and we get another season of NFL Daily.
[57:27] Speaker 1: Let's go Patriots, I mean, thank you, Chris.
[57:30] Speaker 3: Greg wrote that to him.
[57:31] Speaker 1: So is this the year we're gonna finally experience joy
[57:33] Speaker 1: as a Chargers fan? This is from Stephen Haglin on
[57:37] Speaker 1: on Twitter. I believe it was Who's part of the
[57:39] Speaker 1: Guiltiest Barge Podcast?
[57:41] Speaker 3: End of the show.
[57:42] Speaker 1: And I actually do know the answer to this, Stephen,
[57:47] Speaker 1: you are gonna experience some joy this year until horrible paint.
[57:54] Speaker 1: That's a little bit of as a that's a step forward,
[57:57] Speaker 1: step forward.
[57:58] Speaker 3: Do we think that Chargers simply know the true experience
[58:03] Speaker 3: of what it is to be human?
[58:06] Speaker 1: They're gonna find out. I think they are feeling good
[58:08] Speaker 1: this week because I saw Max Crosby on some podcasts
[58:11] Speaker 1: say when he was asked, who are the fans that
[58:14] Speaker 1: like annoy you the most, that you hate the most,
[58:17] Speaker 1: that are the tough that like they're the worst? And
[58:19] Speaker 1: he said Chargers fans, which actually is a feather in
[58:21] Speaker 1: his cap. He's like, they're vicious, they come at me,
[58:24] Speaker 1: They they they're the worst, Like they're small but mighty
[58:28] Speaker 1: in a way. And I was like, this is actually
[58:29] Speaker 1: the best pub that the Charges fans have got huge.
[58:36] Speaker 1: Houston Stressens asked, could you see that Texans have a
[58:39] Speaker 1: historically great defense.
[58:42] Speaker 3: I was ready for this because I'm going to answer
[58:44] Speaker 3: this in the style of Houston Stressen is a great
[58:46] Speaker 3: fellow on social media. Of the choices between blessing or stressing,
[58:54] Speaker 3: I'm going to pick blessing.
[58:57] Speaker 1: I think they got a chance. I think defense is
[58:59] Speaker 1: more on predictable, so it's harder. But if any defense
[59:03] Speaker 1: has a chance, this one, this one. And they've kind
[59:07] Speaker 1: of built up in a way like the Bears when
[59:10] Speaker 1: they were coming into that eighty sixty. They've kind of
[59:12] Speaker 1: built up a couple years of like, oh, we're really
[59:14] Speaker 1: getting to know this group and we know that they're great.
[59:17] Speaker 1: I think you kind of need that. Like the Ravens
[59:18] Speaker 1: back in the day, it was like a slow build
[59:20] Speaker 1: and then it went nuclear.
[59:22] Speaker 2: Let's go.
[59:25] Speaker 1: Da Rosenthal unrelated says on a Japanese fiction kick, can
[59:29] Speaker 1: you recommend some quickly Convenience Store Woman by Sayaka Murata?
[59:35] Speaker 1: For sure? I mean that's the one that got got
[59:38] Speaker 1: me going. And then each one of her books is
[59:41] Speaker 1: successfully like successfully successively rather like more crazy, just the
[59:46] Speaker 1: craziest books ever. I love all of her stuff. A
[59:49] Speaker 1: Thousand Cranes by Yesnuri Kawabata, who won the Nobel Peace Prize.
[59:55] Speaker 1: That's like, that's as Japanese as you get short. It's
[59:57] Speaker 1: perfect pale view of the hills. Uh, that's actually a
[1:00:01] Speaker 1: British writer, British Japanese casu Ushiguru. But that's about post
[1:00:05] Speaker 1: Wardshpan that's a good one. And then the Kawa kamis
[1:00:08] Speaker 1: Romi and Mi Echo. Uh, no relation, but they're both great.
[1:00:13] Speaker 1: Heaven by Mieko kaw Kami's awesome Ten Loves of Nishino
[1:00:17] Speaker 1: is probably my favorite by Heiromi.
[1:00:18] Speaker 3: But how many books total did you read on your vacation?
[1:00:21] Speaker 1: Six or seven?
[1:00:22] Speaker 3: I would say he's a machine?
[1:00:25] Speaker 1: Oh yeah, we are an hour in? Is that how
[1:00:30] Speaker 1: we want to finish the show?
[1:00:31] Speaker 2: I mean, I see a question?
[1:00:33] Speaker 1: I am okay. Patrick is going to choose one final question.
[1:00:37] Speaker 1: I don't even know what it is I went through, but.
[1:00:39] Speaker 2: Well it's one that you you went past.
[1:00:41] Speaker 1: No, it might not have been on purpose.
[1:00:42] Speaker 2: There was no name attached to it. How has Ai
[1:00:44] Speaker 2: changed football? Oh? Yeah?
[1:00:46] Speaker 4: Have you found it useful for running any analysis that
[1:00:48] Speaker 4: aren't available elsewhere? The answers made it unquestionably worse and
[1:00:52] Speaker 4: it needs to die immediately.
[1:00:53] Speaker 2: M hm, that's the death that I'd like to celebrate.
[1:00:56] Speaker 1: Has not? Has that helped? I don't know if it's
[1:00:59] Speaker 1: Jane anything not in my personal life or but yeah,
[1:01:05] Speaker 1: I don't not that I know of.
[1:01:08] Speaker 3: I think it's a travesty. I uh, I don't, I don't,
[1:01:13] Speaker 3: I don't try to say this as like in an
[1:01:16] Speaker 3: arrogant way or whatever. But I am a football reporter
[1:01:20] Speaker 3: as a as a writer as well, and I am
[1:01:24] Speaker 3: terrified of it. I think it is making people able
[1:01:28] Speaker 3: to think less critically. I think people are uh in
[1:01:33] Speaker 3: danger of of not understanding the validity to what sometimes
[1:01:38] Speaker 3: they see, particularly if if ai uh you know, chum
[1:01:43] Speaker 3: is being pumped out over and across social media. I
[1:01:46] Speaker 3: think that it is a really scary thing for the
[1:01:51] Speaker 3: profession of journalism in general. And on the other side
[1:01:56] Speaker 3: of it, I do understand when, for example, NFL organizations
[1:02:01] Speaker 3: or franchises use it to shortened tasks that would otherwise
[1:02:05] Speaker 3: take days and days and days logging medical information from
[1:02:08] Speaker 3: the scouting combine, for example, organizing and ranking information.
[1:02:12] Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, and that's I think. I want to say,
[1:02:14] Speaker 1: that's like computers.
[1:02:17] Speaker 4: I want to say, yeah, using machine learning and this,
[1:02:20] Speaker 4: yes direct that's been churned out by a chatbots.
[1:02:23] Speaker 3: Yeah. And so for that reason, I am terrified of it,
[1:02:26] Speaker 3: and I think it's healthy to to feel that way
[1:02:29] Speaker 3: as And also I understand that this is a tool
[1:02:33] Speaker 3: that a lot of the world around us, and certainly
[1:02:36] Speaker 3: NFL teams are are exploring and I think that the
[1:02:42] Speaker 3: problem that I just get really icked out by is
[1:02:45] Speaker 3: like when it crosses into the things that you're supposed
[1:02:47] Speaker 3: to be doing that make us innately human. I am
[1:02:50] Speaker 3: supposed to be speaking to you to understand your life
[1:02:54] Speaker 3: perspective and what makes you who you are, and how
[1:02:58] Speaker 3: you put a game plan together and why this core
[1:03:01] Speaker 3: memory from your you know, third game of your high
[1:03:04] Speaker 3: school football season has now evolved over thirty years to
[1:03:08] Speaker 3: become a play that you call in the divisional round. Like,
[1:03:11] Speaker 3: I need to understand that on an emotional human human
[1:03:15] Speaker 3: level and dig into that myself in order to actually
[1:03:19] Speaker 3: share that in a way that reflects the entirety and
[1:03:22] Speaker 3: and the and the the the justice done to humanity.
[1:03:25] Speaker 3: So I am terrified of it. I think it's a
[1:03:28] Speaker 3: travesty a lot in a lot of ways. I also
[1:03:30] Speaker 3: do understand the tool, the tool elements of it.
[1:03:33] Speaker 2: Yeah, it's and that's an aspect I didn't even consider.
[1:03:36] Speaker 3: I didn't really expect myself to go that long.
[1:03:38] Speaker 4: Sorry, but yeah, because we do this to try to
[1:03:42] Speaker 4: bridge a gap and communicate the lives of these players
[1:03:44] Speaker 4: and coaches and the people who are part of this
[1:03:46] Speaker 4: game to other people where we may eventually get in
[1:03:48] Speaker 4: a situation where you're trying to correspond with a player
[1:03:51] Speaker 4: or a coach and they're using some chatbot that's really
[1:03:53] Speaker 4: just the assemblance of all Reddit posts and history to respond, right,
[1:03:57] Speaker 4: and so like, what are we even doing?
[1:03:58] Speaker 1: Well, that's the main thing is it's just not inaccurate
[1:04:03] Speaker 1: search function. I try to explain that.
[1:04:05] Speaker 3: Real example of that. This year I did it was
[1:04:08] Speaker 3: I was, I was just like perturbed by it.
[1:04:10] Speaker 1: It's too shy, I would always assume, and I've I've
[1:04:13] Speaker 1: had this, I've I have talked about with my son
[1:04:15] Speaker 1: and stuff like most of it's wrong because it's just
[1:04:18] Speaker 1: combining a ton of sources in a way that's right,
[1:04:22] Speaker 1: Like it's wrong more often than not. Maybe that'll change
[1:04:25] Speaker 1: at some point, but I have my doubts.
[1:04:28] Speaker 3: Go to the original source, if you if and if
[1:04:29] Speaker 3: you don't mind, Like the example, I'm time, I was
[1:04:31] Speaker 3: even maybe even more insidious than that, because I think
[1:04:36] Speaker 3: there's a lot of really awesome data out there and
[1:04:38] Speaker 3: we're learning more about it every every day, and I
[1:04:40] Speaker 3: think being able to package that data in ways that
[1:04:44] Speaker 3: are digestible for like my human brain is super super helpful.
[1:04:48] Speaker 3: But I'm starting to notice that it is the parameters
[1:04:52] Speaker 3: of the goalposts around packages of data are being queried
[1:04:56] Speaker 3: into AI bots or aih you know, queries whether it's
[1:05:01] Speaker 3: like Clode or whatever, into goalposts moving the way that
[1:05:05] Speaker 3: humans would do it, to come up with erroneous comps
[1:05:08] Speaker 3: or comps that are not one to one or like
[1:05:10] Speaker 3: what we would call moving the goalpost in an argument.
[1:05:13] Speaker 3: I'm starting to notice this happening in NFL buildings and
[1:05:17] Speaker 3: that is scary to me. If you were going to query,
[1:05:21] Speaker 3: you need to you need to do it in a
[1:05:23] Speaker 3: way that is as comprehensive to your question and the
[1:05:26] Speaker 3: data points that you're looking for as possible, not saying, oh,
[1:05:28] Speaker 3: I'm going to comp this person from this year to
[1:05:31] Speaker 3: this year with all these other people in totality make
[1:05:35] Speaker 3: an argument.
[1:05:35] Speaker 1: Making everyone dumber. Good great way to show and the show.
[1:05:40] Speaker 3: Sorry, sorry, I'm so sorry. I did want to hear
[1:05:45] Speaker 3: your Hall of Fame opinions, Greg, I do it.
[1:05:46] Speaker 1: I didn't. I didn't have them. That'll be a whole episode.
[1:05:48] Speaker 1: There was a Hall of Fame question and then I
[1:05:51] Speaker 1: thought I want to do a segment, or at least
[1:05:53] Speaker 1: part of an episode more about the upcoming Hall of Fame.
[1:05:57] Speaker 1: Not the upcoming class, but who should be it. So yeah,
[1:06:00] Speaker 1: circle back to the space. We've got a lot of
[1:06:02] Speaker 1: shows you want to get it.
[1:06:03] Speaker 4: After we got put on Tom out, Bill's gonna be
[1:06:05] Speaker 4: very excited to be a part of the Proceders.
[1:06:08] Speaker 1: We will be back later this week. As I mentioned,
[1:06:10] Speaker 1: one more show this week before next week. Yes, the
[1:06:14] Speaker 1: final week. This is it before teams show up for
[1:06:18] Speaker 1: training camp. I know the Seahawks rookies are showing up
[1:06:21] Speaker 1: on Friday. I don't count the whole rookies showing up
[1:06:23] Speaker 1: for a week as it. So this is the last
[1:06:25] Speaker 1: week with only three shows and then we start cranking
[1:06:27] Speaker 1: them up next week. We'll have one more show for
[1:06:30] Speaker 1: you later in the week. In the meantime, thank you
[1:06:33] Speaker 1: to the original crew Jordan Rodrieg and Patrick Claybahn. We'll
[1:06:37] Speaker 1: see you next time.
