[0:05] Speaker 1: Welcome to NFL Daily, where we've got a couple of
[0:08] Speaker 1: week baring walls on this show. I'm Greg Rosenthal and
[0:10] Speaker 1: I'm with Jordan Rodrieg. He's joining me on the other
[0:14] Speaker 1: side of the West side of Los Angeles, wrapping up
[0:18] Speaker 1: the week with some news. Half the teams in the
[0:21] Speaker 1: NFL are done for the off season, so we'll recap
[0:25] Speaker 1: what's been going on at mini camps. I know we've
[0:27] Speaker 1: been wrapping up each week with our NFL Daily thirty
[0:30] Speaker 1: two ranking series that will be back next week and
[0:33] Speaker 1: continuing on through the summer. But while we got men
[0:37] Speaker 1: talking football at a podium, Jordan, well, let's just do
[0:40] Speaker 1: a little bit of that today.
[0:41] Speaker 2: One of the big sales for me filling in on
[0:44] Speaker 2: this show was that you told me it wasn't going
[0:46] Speaker 2: to be a ranking show.
[0:47] Speaker 3: So it's great music to my ears.
[0:50] Speaker 1: I know you don't like that, but yes, we've still
[0:52] Speaker 1: got some big ones to go wide receivers, quarterbacks that's
[0:55] Speaker 1: coming up in the future. For now, we'll talk about
[0:58] Speaker 1: a guy that will be very high on that quarterback's
[1:01] Speaker 1: ranking show, but maybe not number one because Patrick Mahomes
[1:04] Speaker 1: might not be ready for Week one, and we're only
[1:06] Speaker 1: talking about twenty twenty six. The Chiefs are not worried
[1:09] Speaker 1: about just twenty twenty six. They're thinking all the way
[1:13] Speaker 1: to twenty thirty three. What will we be doing in
[1:15] Speaker 1: twenty thirty three? Who knows. If Patrick Mahomes actually finishes
[1:20] Speaker 1: out his contract that he just signed with the Chiefs,
[1:23] Speaker 1: he will be still playing for Kansas City. They extend
[1:27] Speaker 1: his contract two years. The total remaining years on the
[1:30] Speaker 1: contract eight. The total amount of money a little over
[1:34] Speaker 1: five hundred.
[1:36] Speaker 3: Dollars million greg million dollars.
[1:39] Speaker 1: No, I think it's just five hundred dollars. They're paying
[1:41] Speaker 1: him about like forty eight forty nine dollars per season.
[1:45] Speaker 1: They've been like restructuring this every year practically since they
[1:48] Speaker 1: sign it. It's like they go to the bank and
[1:50] Speaker 1: Patrick Mahomes just helps him out. He was falling lower
[1:54] Speaker 1: and lower on the average salary and so they needed
[1:57] Speaker 1: to do something about that. And yet I've seen all
[2:01] Speaker 1: this like reporting on this deal. It's like, this is
[2:03] Speaker 1: crazy that it's a half a billion dollars. Like, of course,
[2:06] Speaker 1: if anyone's worth it, it's it's Patrick Mahomes. And my
[2:09] Speaker 1: biggest takeaway was, just like man, Patrick Mahomes just signing
[2:11] Speaker 1: another team friendly deal for the Chiefs. He is just
[2:15] Speaker 1: that guy, whether he wants to be or not. That's
[2:18] Speaker 1: just like kind of helping them out with their salary
[2:20] Speaker 1: cap despite all the money in this deal.
[2:22] Speaker 2: Yeah, and I think we had a news cycle I
[2:24] Speaker 2: believe last off season as well or the one before that,
[2:28] Speaker 2: that he was poised to become the first like half
[2:30] Speaker 2: a billion dollar quarterback.
[2:33] Speaker 3: So this is not new.
[2:34] Speaker 2: This is good business just by the Chiefs and obviously
[2:37] Speaker 2: for Patrick Mahomes too, because this can help them not
[2:42] Speaker 2: only have a set number for him for while they
[2:44] Speaker 2: maneuver what their roster is going to look like this
[2:46] Speaker 2: season and beyond.
[2:47] Speaker 3: My colleague Jesse Nowell.
[2:49] Speaker 2: At The Athletic is reporting that the cap number in
[2:53] Speaker 2: twenty twenty six for this contract does not change at all,
[2:56] Speaker 2: so helps them in the short term. They have very
[2:58] Speaker 2: very limited on cap spasis and there are areas of
[3:01] Speaker 2: their roster that are a little bit top heavy just
[3:04] Speaker 2: in terms of probably turn overcoming.
[3:06] Speaker 3: So this just helps.
[3:08] Speaker 2: This helps them, Like I like how you put it at
[3:09] Speaker 2: the bank of Mahomes, because that's exactly what it is.
[3:13] Speaker 1: And yet, to be fair, the new money on the deal,
[3:16] Speaker 1: which is only two years, is two hundred and thirty
[3:19] Speaker 1: nine million dollars, so the new money, like that's one
[3:22] Speaker 1: hundred and fifteen per year. But they had to do
[3:24] Speaker 1: that to make his average go up enough to pass
[3:28] Speaker 1: Dak Prescott. So he's you know, he's in the now.
[3:30] Speaker 1: He's in the sixties in terms of average. When I
[3:32] Speaker 1: say that it's friendly to the team in some ways,
[3:35] Speaker 1: it's because obviously as the years go on, this will
[3:38] Speaker 1: you know, decrease, but more that if you have him
[3:41] Speaker 1: signed up for eight years, like they will just control
[3:44] Speaker 1: the rest of his career. And that's fine. He is
[3:45] Speaker 1: fine with that. He wants to be a Chief for life.
[3:48] Speaker 1: They'll very likely renegotiate this in three or four years
[3:52] Speaker 1: as long as he's playing at a high level and
[3:54] Speaker 1: is interesting. No, he's got the first four years of
[3:56] Speaker 1: this contract guaranteed, so it's not quite Deshaun Watson's fully
[4:01] Speaker 1: guaranteed contract, but in terms of total years, it's four
[4:04] Speaker 1: fits of the way there. So that is a you know,
[4:06] Speaker 1: quote unquote concession that the Chiefs made giving him an
[4:09] Speaker 1: extra year or two fully guaranteed that even the best
[4:12] Speaker 1: quarterbacks haven't gotten then, So that's nice, but this isn't
[4:16] Speaker 1: changing my world. It You know what has changed my world,
[4:20] Speaker 1: Jordan is just seeing all the AI social posts very
[4:24] Speaker 1: annoying like that, the quotes coming out from the team
[4:28] Speaker 1: and the GM and everything about Patrick Woms, it's all
[4:32] Speaker 1: in the same format. I keep bringing this up because, like,
[4:34] Speaker 1: I got invited to like a fifth grade party this week,
[4:37] Speaker 1: and then I see different players camps getting put out
[4:40] Speaker 1: and then teams putting out their training camp schedule and
[4:42] Speaker 1: they all look the exact same, and it bothers me,
[4:45] Speaker 1: Like it just annoys me. Yeah, you all look the same.
[4:48] Speaker 1: We know what you're doing.
[4:49] Speaker 2: We could do an entire separate show on the vampiric
[4:54] Speaker 2: effect on creativity that AI is having on our society
[4:59] Speaker 2: at large, and also the dwindling AI literacy that's.
[5:04] Speaker 3: Having in effect on our society at large.
[5:07] Speaker 2: That's not this show, Greg, No, but yes I could.
[5:10] Speaker 3: I could stand on that hill and shout for quite
[5:12] Speaker 3: some time.
[5:13] Speaker 1: I think we keep you on your toes. Jordan on
[5:15] Speaker 1: a Thursday morning, early as I as I get ready
[5:18] Speaker 1: for some I.
[5:19] Speaker 2: Know I don't really talk to people at this hour, Yes,
[5:22] Speaker 2: but if I'm going to talk to someone, I will
[5:24] Speaker 2: talk to you.
[5:24] Speaker 1: Greg. I'm going to bring the energy to make up
[5:27] Speaker 1: for it. I just don't think it's a good look
[5:29] Speaker 1: that the fifth grade pool party has literally the exact
[5:33] Speaker 1: same layout as a professional NFL billionaire teams plans for
[5:38] Speaker 1: training camp, and they look at they all look the
[5:40] Speaker 1: exact same all right, Alec Pierce is our next in
[5:43] Speaker 1: our news. Actually, let's hit just one or two other
[5:46] Speaker 1: really small chiefs things, which is I saw that Andy
[5:49] Speaker 1: Reid said the right tackle battle is totally up for grabs.
[5:54] Speaker 1: It is a little concerning to me that Jalen Moore,
[5:56] Speaker 1: who they gave all that money to, at right tackles
[5:59] Speaker 1: like in the middle of a bat with an undrafted
[6:01] Speaker 1: free agent. So I found that interesting. And then your
[6:04] Speaker 1: colleague got the athletic Jesse Nowle noted I Marii de
[6:07] Speaker 1: Marcado might be the running back too right now, if
[6:09] Speaker 1: you're into that sort of thing. So, just like I
[6:12] Speaker 1: like throwing out these little nuggets as they break for
[6:15] Speaker 1: the offseasons, go let's go to Alec Pierce next. Alec
[6:17] Speaker 1: Pierce is expected now, according to Stephen Holder at ESPN,
[6:21] Speaker 1: to be out through the preseason, through much of training camp,
[6:26] Speaker 1: maybe he could return late in the preseason, right before
[6:29] Speaker 1: training camp. Pierce talked too, and it does point out
[6:32] Speaker 1: that this surgery that he had on his ankle was
[6:35] Speaker 1: really serious. It's a four to six month recovery. Do
[6:38] Speaker 1: the math, Jordan, if like that's one that he had
[6:40] Speaker 1: had in September, that would have knocked him out the
[6:42] Speaker 1: whole season. And he said publicly this is not something
[6:45] Speaker 1: that they were hoping or planning to do when he
[6:48] Speaker 1: signed that big contract for the Colts. It makes you
[6:51] Speaker 1: wonder like how his free agency would have gone maybe
[6:55] Speaker 1: a little differently if he had had that surgery, let's say,
[6:57] Speaker 1: in January.
[6:58] Speaker 2: Well, and if this was more public knowledge. I find
[7:01] Speaker 2: it really hard to believe that the Colts didn't at
[7:04] Speaker 2: least think he had to have something done. Right, But
[7:06] Speaker 2: the level, like to me, some of the phrasing and
[7:09] Speaker 2: some of the vibes I'm getting from his you know,
[7:12] Speaker 2: his comments from the team, from the reporting around it
[7:15] Speaker 2: is that they knew, they knew he was going to
[7:17] Speaker 2: have some sort of cleanup quote, you know, essentially, but
[7:20] Speaker 2: then this becomes something a lot more serious.
[7:22] Speaker 3: That's concerning you know, he is one of.
[7:24] Speaker 2: The most explosive receivers in the NFL, and now he's
[7:28] Speaker 2: his timeline is is a little bit more tentative than
[7:32] Speaker 2: it otherwise felt like it should have been or would
[7:34] Speaker 2: have been. And I also think it's interesting because it
[7:36] Speaker 2: kind of puts him on a more Daniel Jones esque
[7:39] Speaker 2: timeline too, So maybe on some level they're looking at
[7:43] Speaker 2: it that way of like, Okay, we're going to get
[7:44] Speaker 2: like our two guys that we paid back at around
[7:47] Speaker 2: the same time.
[7:47] Speaker 3: We'll just figure it out until then.
[7:49] Speaker 1: Just adds a little layer of difficulty that the real
[7:53] Speaker 1: difficulty for Daniel Jones and Aleck Pierce to get up
[7:56] Speaker 1: to speed. And yet you're you're right, he said the
[7:58] Speaker 1: initial plan was for him to rehabit and they had
[8:01] Speaker 1: a special transfusion and all this stuff that they tried
[8:04] Speaker 1: to do that and let it rest for six or
[8:06] Speaker 1: eight weeks, and then it didn't happen, and so they
[8:07] Speaker 1: had to unfortunately go for option number two, which was
[8:10] Speaker 1: get this big surgery three weeks after he signed or
[8:13] Speaker 1: after the offseason started, and he signed that contract. You
[8:16] Speaker 1: know who'll sign a big contract the weight bearing wall.
[8:18] Speaker 1: I was referring to Aaron Brewer, the All Pro center
[8:22] Speaker 1: for the Dolphins gets a three year, fifty two million
[8:25] Speaker 1: dollar extension. I know you're big on the Dolphins sprint rebuild,
[8:29] Speaker 1: and Aaron Brewer are a big, big part of that.
[8:32] Speaker 2: Yes, I you know, I say I will always say
[8:35] Speaker 2: weight bearing Wall because I think it's hilarious. Jeff Hafley
[8:39] Speaker 2: and John Eric Sullivan call them pillars, which probably is
[8:42] Speaker 2: a little bit more flattering, honestly, but I just think
[8:45] Speaker 2: weight bearing Wall is funnier.
[8:46] Speaker 3: So this is great.
[8:48] Speaker 2: One of the best centers in the NFL, A great story,
[8:52] Speaker 2: a great journey for him, Still very underrated. I think
[8:55] Speaker 2: more people are catching on him. Certainly his peers are.
[8:58] Speaker 2: He was a runner up for Protector of the U
[9:00] Speaker 2: which is voted upon by a board of current former
[9:03] Speaker 2: offensive linemen, so appreciate that he's getting a little pop there.
[9:07] Speaker 2: He's outstanding, He's excellent, and I think that, you know,
[9:11] Speaker 2: when we talk about what a sprint rebuild actually is,
[9:15] Speaker 2: and I know people probably tired of me saying those words,
[9:19] Speaker 2: it's not just having good players at key positions. It's
[9:23] Speaker 2: having among the best in the NFL players at certain
[9:26] Speaker 2: positions that lift the rest of the floor of your
[9:29] Speaker 2: roster and really solidify elements of things that are very
[9:33] Speaker 2: very important to that roster, the offensive line being one
[9:35] Speaker 2: of them here. So I just think this is great
[9:38] Speaker 2: once again the Dolphins. Whether or not they're actually any
[9:42] Speaker 2: good this year remains to be seen.
[9:44] Speaker 3: But that's part of it.
[9:45] Speaker 2: Is like their roster, a lot of it looks very
[9:47] Speaker 2: questionable on paper, but what you can't really question, in
[9:51] Speaker 2: my opinion, is the process and the blueprint that they're following.
[9:54] Speaker 2: And so I appreciate good process. I'm a process girly,
[9:57] Speaker 2: so I like seeing what they're doing.
[9:59] Speaker 1: Yeah, and they have guys on the offensive line that
[10:02] Speaker 1: they hope can get to that level that Aaron Brewer
[10:06] Speaker 1: is at. Patrick Paul is a promising left tackle. They
[10:08] Speaker 1: of course use their first ever draft pick in this
[10:11] Speaker 1: regime on Caleb Procter in top of the first round,
[10:15] Speaker 1: and so they hope that they develop into those guys.
[10:18] Speaker 1: The Cowboys are still in OTA's They are not one
[10:20] Speaker 1: of the teams that's breaking for the offseason. By the way,
[10:22] Speaker 1: we have a very fun segment Jordan came up with
[10:25] Speaker 1: players should have mentioned just some corporate goodbyes for the
[10:29] Speaker 1: teams that are going on a break. Maybe the communication
[10:33] Speaker 1: they will use some corporate lingo as they say goodbye
[10:37] Speaker 1: for about forty days, but the Cowboys still have work
[10:39] Speaker 1: next week. I thought it was interesting that Brian Schottenheimer
[10:41] Speaker 1: said there was a wide open competition at both left
[10:44] Speaker 1: tackle and cornerback left tackles fascinating because Tyler Guidon is
[10:48] Speaker 1: a first round pick from a couple of years ago,
[10:49] Speaker 1: and the other option is one of their weight bearing walls,
[10:53] Speaker 1: Tyler Smith, who openly doesn't want to play left tackle.
[10:56] Speaker 1: He plays left guard, and so he's hoping that Tyler
[10:59] Speaker 1: Booker looks good enough, or rather Tyler Geyton. I'm mixing
[11:03] Speaker 1: up by Tyler's he plays well enough so that he
[11:06] Speaker 1: doesn't have to play, So that is an open competition. Also,
[11:08] Speaker 1: cornerback is wide open. Deron Bland is hurt there, Kobe
[11:11] Speaker 1: Durance in the mix, Ron Ravel is in the mix,
[11:14] Speaker 1: so that just some battles to watch. One guy who
[11:17] Speaker 1: doesn't need to earn a spot as a starter is
[11:18] Speaker 1: Christian Gonzales for the Patriots, who did show up for
[11:22] Speaker 1: mini camp this week, but said, look, I want to
[11:24] Speaker 1: be rewarded as a member of the Patriots, and he's
[11:27] Speaker 1: doing the hold in type of thing, kind of like
[11:29] Speaker 1: Jacoby Brissette over in Arizona. He is actually not working out,
[11:32] Speaker 1: so just something to watch as training camp approaches.
[11:37] Speaker 3: I always kind of like a hold like a hold in.
[11:39] Speaker 2: I always think that it's a little bit more passive
[11:42] Speaker 2: aggressive in a positive way for the player for a
[11:46] Speaker 2: hold in, because when things go wrong, they're standing there
[11:49] Speaker 2: watching it right and just sort of receiving more validation.
[11:52] Speaker 2: Why they should be, you know, getting paid. Christian Zalez
[11:56] Speaker 2: is one of the best young corners in the entire NFL.
[11:59] Speaker 2: There with some concern obviously with the injury patterns in
[12:02] Speaker 2: the history and all of that, but he should be
[12:04] Speaker 2: getting paid. I don't really see a reason why they
[12:07] Speaker 2: would drag this out very long into training camp, although
[12:10] Speaker 2: you know, at his level, I don't think he I
[12:14] Speaker 2: don't think it would be terrible if he missed some
[12:15] Speaker 2: time like some of training camp. But I just I
[12:18] Speaker 2: really don't expect this. I would not expect this to
[12:20] Speaker 2: drag on because what they have shown us is that
[12:23] Speaker 2: they are willing to reward their good players. And it
[12:26] Speaker 2: sounds like, you know, Mike Rabel has been asked about
[12:29] Speaker 2: this a little bit throughout the offseason, and it does
[12:32] Speaker 2: sound like you know at least there's a positive trend
[12:34] Speaker 2: in that direction.
[12:36] Speaker 1: It's a tricky one because do you give him Patrick's
[12:39] Speaker 1: Ertan money or close to it, like that's the level
[12:41] Speaker 1: that he's played at. I think Mike Rabel wanted to
[12:45] Speaker 1: see it first last year, and he obviously played really
[12:48] Speaker 1: well at the end of the season, played well over all.
[12:50] Speaker 3: He did really well too.
[12:51] Speaker 1: Incredible, was among their best players, if not their best.
[12:55] Speaker 1: But he also has two years left on his deal
[12:57] Speaker 1: because he has that fifth year option. So if you're
[13:00] Speaker 1: the Patriots, they want a little bit of a discount
[13:02] Speaker 1: because there's still two years left. Do you give them
[13:05] Speaker 1: that monster money. Devin Witherspoon, you know, is another cornerback
[13:10] Speaker 1: that's due monster money. So watching those two guys, All right,
[13:13] Speaker 1: it's time for the off season ride along presented by
[13:16] Speaker 1: Toyota at Raiders Camp. I think it's a little concerning
[13:18] Speaker 1: na Kobe Dean hasn't been out there at all. We
[13:20] Speaker 1: don't really get much injury information this time of year,
[13:23] Speaker 1: so we don't know the reason for that. But he's
[13:24] Speaker 1: had a lot of injuries in his career. And then
[13:27] Speaker 1: you know who is out there is Fernando Mendoza, who
[13:30] Speaker 1: is working with the twos and the three so far.
[13:32] Speaker 1: I feel like everyone really got on the Jaguars back
[13:35] Speaker 1: in the day for not letting Trevor Lawrence work with
[13:37] Speaker 1: the ones right away. This is a different situation and
[13:40] Speaker 1: we're not at training camp, but sometimes Mendoza is even
[13:43] Speaker 1: with the third team. Let's listen to Mendoza talk about
[13:47] Speaker 1: his transition to this offense under Clint Kubiak.
[13:51] Speaker 4: There're a similar situation going from cal to Indiana, and
[13:54] Speaker 4: you had to learn it in a hurry. Yes, with
[13:56] Speaker 4: some high expectations at Indiana, and it didn't necessarily always
[13:59] Speaker 4: start off well, but it got better, It got better,
[14:01] Speaker 4: it got better.
[14:02] Speaker 1: How much can that benefit you in this transition?
[14:06] Speaker 5: Yeah.
[14:07] Speaker 6: I think having that experience of coming from cal to
[14:12] Speaker 6: then go to Indiana and honestly having a really rough
[14:14] Speaker 6: spring in Indiana of learning there's a big learning curve
[14:17] Speaker 6: to now which is I wanna say which now? You know,
[14:20] Speaker 6: with more experience and having dealt with that transition already,
[14:24] Speaker 6: it has been smoother in the fact of learning new offense,
[14:27] Speaker 6: getting new information, learning new teammates, receivers, offensive linemen, and
[14:31] Speaker 6: being able to take that experience and have a neutral
[14:35] Speaker 6: mindset of where Hey, I'm learning, I'm growing. This isn't
[14:39] Speaker 6: the super Bowl today. This day, I'm trying to become
[14:42] Speaker 6: the best version of myself so I can best serve
[14:44] Speaker 6: my teammates down the road.
[14:45] Speaker 1: You're going to put on your media critic at here, Jordan,
[14:48] Speaker 1: your thoughts of the question, the answer, the presentation right
[14:52] Speaker 1: now with Mendoza.
[14:53] Speaker 2: I just think that players have to really appreciate when
[14:58] Speaker 2: the answer is in the question itself, honestly, because I
[15:03] Speaker 2: that's exactly what the question. I mean, really, he answered
[15:06] Speaker 2: exactly what he knew what the answer should be for
[15:11] Speaker 2: at all.
[15:12] Speaker 1: He laughed a little listening to the question, like like
[15:15] Speaker 1: maybe he understood that too well.
[15:17] Speaker 2: I mean, it's like, you know, when this time of year,
[15:21] Speaker 2: if you're going to set up what you're going to
[15:22] Speaker 2: write about, then go for it, you know, because and
[15:25] Speaker 2: he's going to answer it. He's he's been he's been
[15:27] Speaker 2: a quote like a kind of a quote machine, uh,
[15:31] Speaker 2: in that regard for as long as we've he's been
[15:33] Speaker 2: on our radar over the last calendar year. So this
[15:37] Speaker 2: seems no different to me. I wish I had his
[15:41] Speaker 2: level of energy the you know, the when he first
[15:46] Speaker 2: came onto the screen. His his eyes were very wide,
[15:48] Speaker 2: and I was like, oh, yeah, I should open mind
[15:50] Speaker 2: a little bit more at this moment.
[15:53] Speaker 1: Yeah, I have a question charmingly earnest or getting too
[15:58] Speaker 1: much love for his earnest personality by some in the media.
[16:02] Speaker 1: I've heard some criticism. I want to hear your vantage
[16:05] Speaker 1: point here.
[16:05] Speaker 2: I have also heard some criticism, but I'm like, also
[16:08] Speaker 2: an earnest person and sometimes that ca grate on people.
[16:12] Speaker 2: I understand that, but I'd rather be that way than cynical.
[16:16] Speaker 3: So good for him. I love that for him. I
[16:18] Speaker 3: hope he stays that way.
[16:19] Speaker 2: Also, more serious answer to your question, I feel like
[16:24] Speaker 2: this is exactly what the Raiders told us they were
[16:26] Speaker 2: going to do with him, so it should not surprise
[16:30] Speaker 2: anybody to see this. They literally told us this is
[16:33] Speaker 2: what his progression would be, and this is where he
[16:35] Speaker 2: would start as the two, if not, you know, even
[16:38] Speaker 2: further down, taking some of those scout team reps whatever. Like,
[16:42] Speaker 2: they told us exactly this, So this is I mean,
[16:47] Speaker 2: not really to me. I mean, I know it's snoozy fine,
[16:49] Speaker 2: but this is exactly what they said they were going
[16:51] Speaker 2: to do. Just like the question, it's all laid out
[16:55] Speaker 2: for us right there.
[16:56] Speaker 1: It is. It'll be interesting to watch how it is
[16:58] Speaker 1: in training camp.
[16:59] Speaker 7: Now.
[16:59] Speaker 1: It's more we're just trying to, you know, have different
[17:01] Speaker 1: textures in the show, some some different sound and I
[17:04] Speaker 1: too land on charmingly earnest. But I think it's fair
[17:07] Speaker 1: if people just get annoyed at some of the fanboys
[17:11] Speaker 1: in the media get annoyed at the media, though, don't
[17:12] Speaker 1: get annoyed at the man Fernando, who I find charmingly ernest.
[17:16] Speaker 1: You know who else?
[17:17] Speaker 2: I think when people get annoyed at the media, either
[17:19] Speaker 2: just saying like we just everyone just be nice to
[17:22] Speaker 2: each other.
[17:23] Speaker 3: How about that? What a concept be Brazinski's I love
[17:25] Speaker 3: that bit from your show. Everyone just chill.
[17:29] Speaker 1: People deserve our annoyance, but not us. We're the weight
[17:32] Speaker 1: bearing walls for iHeartMedia. I hope they're listening out there,
[17:37] Speaker 1: NFL media too. Everyone. That was the off season ride
[17:40] Speaker 1: along presented by Toyota, because when people are the destination,
[17:44] Speaker 1: your ride is important. Learn more at toyota dot com
[17:48] Speaker 1: and find the vehicle that fits your people. Dalton Schultz
[17:52] Speaker 1: came on our show after you know, the AFC Championship,
[17:57] Speaker 1: so at that point it was weeks and weeks removed
[17:59] Speaker 1: from when and his Texans went down in the divisional round,
[18:03] Speaker 1: and yet he was so sad in that interview, but
[18:06] Speaker 1: also just showed how much he cared. And so I've
[18:09] Speaker 1: just been on the Schultz radar for some sound this offseason.
[18:14] Speaker 1: A good talker, and I like the way that he
[18:16] Speaker 1: talked about how he sees his offense looking different this offseason.
[18:21] Speaker 5: And I think from the new faces that we have
[18:24] Speaker 5: and the new guys that we brought in, Like that's
[18:26] Speaker 5: the first thing that's jumped out to me, is just
[18:28] Speaker 5: the mindset. Like I think Demico threw a few clips
[18:33] Speaker 5: on in the first week of like pulling some of
[18:36] Speaker 5: the old line back, saying like hey, like we can't
[18:39] Speaker 5: you know, on pass block and we can't go clean
[18:42] Speaker 5: out like a d N who's just kind of sitting
[18:45] Speaker 5: there holding up. We had, you know, guys flying around
[18:48] Speaker 5: trying to trying to hit people, and so I think,
[18:51] Speaker 5: you know, just that from that mindset, like that's a
[18:55] Speaker 5: problem that we hadn't necessarily had for the last couple
[18:58] Speaker 5: of years, and that's something that jumped out like immediately,
[19:01] Speaker 5: like having to pull guys back and be like, hey,
[19:03] Speaker 5: like slow down, which usually what he's saying to the defense,
[19:06] Speaker 5: So to see it on the offensive side it was nice.
[19:10] Speaker 1: I love it. It's a little offseason trophy, but I
[19:13] Speaker 1: but I still think it's a good sign, which is
[19:15] Speaker 1: the hey we're having that tell our guys to back
[19:18] Speaker 1: off a little bit because they're going too hard at
[19:20] Speaker 1: that Texans defense.
[19:21] Speaker 2: The O line's game's really slowing down for them. Greg No,
[19:25] Speaker 2: I like this. He was so sad that week. I
[19:29] Speaker 2: remember we sat back and we kind of just looked
[19:31] Speaker 2: at each other after the interview, and I remember Eric
[19:34] Speaker 2: came over to debrief with us and we were like,
[19:37] Speaker 2: he was so sad. It was we and and I
[19:40] Speaker 2: get it. They were To me, they were They should
[19:42] Speaker 2: have been a favorite. They were one of my favorites
[19:45] Speaker 2: to go all the way last year, and it to
[19:47] Speaker 2: be in the in the championship game, if not close
[19:50] Speaker 2: contention for it.
[19:53] Speaker 3: But I like that.
[19:53] Speaker 2: I don't really mind that it's trophy. I think that
[19:57] Speaker 2: they needed it, and the offensive line in particular, and
[20:01] Speaker 2: I think it's very specific that he brought those guys up.
[20:03] Speaker 3: He's good. He's good at the podium like that.
[20:07] Speaker 2: They all know that that's the number one criticism of
[20:11] Speaker 2: this roster and this team right now. So to bring
[20:14] Speaker 2: them up and sort of try to gas them up
[20:17] Speaker 2: from afar, that's a good locker room. That's what good
[20:20] Speaker 2: teammates do. We'll see if it's actually real when the
[20:23] Speaker 2: pads come on, but I do like it. It shows
[20:27] Speaker 2: a real connectedness to me that he's sort of picking
[20:31] Speaker 2: his spots to do good pr for his teammates.
[20:35] Speaker 1: Tank Dell has been in and out of the off
[20:37] Speaker 1: season program, not doing full teamwork at mini camp, but
[20:39] Speaker 1: I just like seeing them out there running routes. Nice
[20:42] Speaker 1: to see. I'm also buying all there's more. CJ. Stroud
[20:45] Speaker 1: looks better, is playing better hype than maybe anyone else
[20:49] Speaker 1: in the entire offseason, and I wish I had bought
[20:52] Speaker 1: stock in him the other day in our buying stock segment,
[20:54] Speaker 1: I would also buy stock and Colston levelin as the
[20:56] Speaker 1: tight end one in Chicago, but also just the wide
[21:00] Speaker 1: receiver one. Ben Johnson this week called him the most consistent,
[21:03] Speaker 1: were one of the most consistent players that he's ever
[21:05] Speaker 1: been around. He's been around a lot of players, and
[21:08] Speaker 1: it's just all systems go for Lovelin kind of as
[21:10] Speaker 1: the hub of that offense, Brandon Ayuk. I don't think
[21:13] Speaker 1: it's going to be the hub of any offense this year.
[21:17] Speaker 1: We'll see if he's even a member of the Washington Commanders.
[21:19] Speaker 1: I think there's some red flags about that for them.
[21:22] Speaker 1: But he keeps releasing these social videos, and we alluded
[21:27] Speaker 1: to it the other day, so I don't want to
[21:29] Speaker 1: linger on it. But he had another one that came
[21:31] Speaker 1: out this week just saying that the forty nine ers
[21:33] Speaker 1: were mad that they paid him fifty million dollars in
[21:36] Speaker 1: eight months, which you know, I don't think is going
[21:38] Speaker 1: to make the commanders feel great about signing him now.
[21:41] Speaker 1: But he's clearly trying to push publicly at least that's
[21:43] Speaker 1: what it looks like to get released. You know who's
[21:46] Speaker 1: not going to get released is another one of the
[21:48] Speaker 1: great young tight ends in the NFL. That's Tucker Kraft.
[21:52] Speaker 1: Let's listen to him talk about his recovery. Obviously, the Packers'
[21:58] Speaker 1: offense was not the same after his injury a year ago.
[22:01] Speaker 1: He is working his way back.
[22:04] Speaker 4: I starting the starting camp on the puff and coming
[22:07] Speaker 4: off camp. My anticipation is, you know, they don't really
[22:11] Speaker 4: want us talking about our injuries and stuff, But with
[22:13] Speaker 4: how I feel, I would say I'm gonna get all
[22:16] Speaker 4: the conditioning I need in camp to start week one
[22:19] Speaker 4: on NOE pitch count.
[22:20] Speaker 2: I love when players do that just as a reporter,
[22:22] Speaker 2: because the teams are so angsty about it. He's right,
[22:26] Speaker 2: they don't want them talking about their injury. That the
[22:29] Speaker 2: coaches will sidestep however many questions and actual, like legitimate
[22:35] Speaker 2: answers as possible for as long as they can. And
[22:38] Speaker 2: I just I really appreciate when a player is just like,
[22:41] Speaker 2: I don't care about any of that. I'm just gonna
[22:42] Speaker 2: tell you what's going on and I will be back.
[22:45] Speaker 1: It's a great sign. And when I saw the insider
[22:48] Speaker 1: schefter ian kind of co sign, it maybe like they
[22:50] Speaker 1: had been hearing that too. You never know. Players are
[22:53] Speaker 1: always optimistic, but that's a great sign. I noted too
[22:56] Speaker 1: when we're talking just little nuggets and the Packers are
[22:58] Speaker 1: one of the teams that are wrapped up their off
[23:01] Speaker 1: season for the Veterans on Thursday. They do have rookies
[23:04] Speaker 1: working out next week, but in terms of the veterans,
[23:07] Speaker 1: they're basically done that. Matt Lafleur noted rookie offensive lineman Yager,
[23:13] Speaker 1: Burton working with the ones, saying in line for playing time,
[23:17] Speaker 1: so they're actually still maybe figuring out their offensive line.
[23:20] Speaker 1: But sometimes this time of year. I know, now it's
[23:22] Speaker 1: non padded work, so it doesn't mean that much, but
[23:25] Speaker 1: sometimes guys like that pop up a little bit and
[23:27] Speaker 1: they're still trying to figure out like the right five
[23:29] Speaker 1: for their offensive line.
[23:30] Speaker 2: Yeah, I think it's you know, we've heard some from
[23:32] Speaker 2: Matt Lafleur this off season about reconnecting with the locker room,
[23:37] Speaker 2: reconnecting with his offense and sort of retooling a lot
[23:41] Speaker 2: of it as well. And I think this is a
[23:43] Speaker 2: good personal pr move for him with the Vets because
[23:47] Speaker 2: the Vets want to see that the rookies have to
[23:49] Speaker 2: do something that they don't have to do. And then
[23:52] Speaker 2: on Yager, it's great Green Bay Packers alignment name by
[23:57] Speaker 2: the way, Oh yeah, Kentucky right, because and that's like
[24:00] Speaker 2: a zone. I mean, it makes sense. It's sort of
[24:02] Speaker 2: a tell for me. It's his own team. It's a
[24:05] Speaker 2: team will Stein is there. It's a team that does
[24:08] Speaker 2: a lot of its principles that are predicated off of
[24:10] Speaker 2: this Shanahan system, early iterations of it that ran a
[24:15] Speaker 2: lot his own, and so I think, like, yeah, that
[24:17] Speaker 2: makes sense.
[24:18] Speaker 3: It's sort of a tell for me.
[24:19] Speaker 1: You know, it doesn't make sense me saying his name
[24:22] Speaker 1: was Yoger, just guessing because.
[24:27] Speaker 3: Is it just Jagger Jagger Jagger.
[24:29] Speaker 2: Still we're going to forever refer to him as Jaeger
[24:34] Speaker 2: on this show.
[24:34] Speaker 1: Jaeger Yoger, Yager. He's a rookie, but apparently he is.
[24:38] Speaker 3: Actually he does a run. He yogs is.
[24:41] Speaker 1: Jagger, which is you know, like named after Mick Spaking
[24:46] Speaker 1: a great wordplay craft just dropped in a line in
[24:50] Speaker 1: the middle of his press conference that I had not heard,
[24:54] Speaker 1: and he said, look, you know, we haven't been He
[24:56] Speaker 1: was pretty upset about how last season ended, how they
[24:59] Speaker 1: keep losing. He says, it's no slight to anyone who's
[25:03] Speaker 1: been here, but we haven't. We haven't performed well enough.
[25:07] Speaker 1: You know, It's it's time to nut up or shut up.
[25:10] Speaker 1: And I was just like, oh, not up or shut up,
[25:12] Speaker 1: Like I didn't know that.
[25:14] Speaker 3: That's a phrase You've never heard nut up or shut up?
[25:17] Speaker 1: No, No, we got to put that on a T shirt. Yeah,
[25:19] Speaker 1: not uper shut up. He says that he said football
[25:23] Speaker 1: is as simple as that.
[25:24] Speaker 8: I don't.
[25:24] Speaker 1: We don't need to talk about it. It's not Uper
[25:26] Speaker 1: shut up time for the Green Bay Packers, It's not
[25:28] Speaker 1: up for shut up time for the corporate lingo. See
[25:33] Speaker 1: you for the summer segment. We are going to take
[25:35] Speaker 1: a quick break, and when we come back, we're gonna
[25:38] Speaker 1: go through a couple teams that just sent some corporate
[25:41] Speaker 1: jingle reminders to their players before breaking for the next
[25:46] Speaker 1: forty days or so. Back on NFL Daily. Apparently, not
[26:00] Speaker 1: upper shut up a commonly used phrase that our producer
[26:04] Speaker 1: Eric even uses with his two year old. Everyone knows
[26:07] Speaker 1: not upper shut up. Now I do as well. I'm
[26:11] Speaker 1: more familiar with the corporate lingo.
[26:16] Speaker 3: Yeah, you've sent some emails in your day.
[26:20] Speaker 1: I'm a little removed from it now. I gotta be honest.
[26:22] Speaker 1: You know we're here, we're making shows. Eric does a
[26:25] Speaker 1: great job shielding me from the shield in some ways,
[26:29] Speaker 1: and we're in our little bubble. I don't feel like
[26:33] Speaker 1: our job is too corporate. The most corporate thing about
[26:35] Speaker 1: the job is having to fill out all the security
[26:39] Speaker 1: videos and answer quizzes at the end of him and
[26:42] Speaker 1: variety of those like once a month and stuff like that.
[26:45] Speaker 1: But otherwise I don't feel like it's a corporate You're
[26:48] Speaker 1: you know, you've worked for multiple corporations, so I'm really
[26:50] Speaker 1: excited to see where you take this. And yes, as
[26:53] Speaker 1: I mentioned, over half the league broke for the summer
[26:56] Speaker 1: this week. A number of teams will be doing that
[26:59] Speaker 1: next week. But for the teams that broke this week,
[27:01] Speaker 1: we have just some communications going out.
[27:04] Speaker 3: Yeah, I think we've all been there.
[27:06] Speaker 2: I think we've all gotten the before summer break email.
[27:09] Speaker 2: I think we've all gotten the corporate speak, whether it's
[27:13] Speaker 2: on Slack or via email or g chat or even
[27:17] Speaker 2: on like some sort of PowerPoint presentation, corporate language is
[27:22] Speaker 2: all around us, and even sometimes we might be guilty
[27:25] Speaker 2: of using it ourselves. My first one is for the
[27:29] Speaker 2: Baltimore Ravens who broke camp this week for the summer.
[27:33] Speaker 2: This is a tribute of the eternally annoying I'm just
[27:35] Speaker 2: circling back before the break email.
[27:38] Speaker 3: That we've all gotten.
[27:40] Speaker 2: Here's actually a really not annoying circle back that I
[27:42] Speaker 2: thought was a nice touch for the Ravens. On Wednesday,
[27:45] Speaker 2: the coaching staff put kicker Tyler Loop out on the
[27:48] Speaker 2: field with a chance to send the players off the
[27:51] Speaker 2: field early about a half an hour before practice, and
[27:55] Speaker 2: therefore camp was scheduled to mini camp was scheduled to
[27:58] Speaker 2: actually end. And I loved the reports of his vibe
[28:02] Speaker 2: because if he was going to make a field goal,
[28:05] Speaker 2: he could send everybody home early.
[28:07] Speaker 3: If he missed it, you know.
[28:09] Speaker 2: With with specters of wide right sort of still looming
[28:12] Speaker 2: in his mind, then they would still have to practice.
[28:14] Speaker 2: And according to the Baltimore reporters there, Tyler Lup walked
[28:18] Speaker 2: on the field and told coaches to start packing their
[28:21] Speaker 2: stuff up and like, get ready to go home. Boy
[28:23] Speaker 2: is the kind of a thing. And so he makes
[28:25] Speaker 2: the kick, they go home early. I just thought, in
[28:28] Speaker 2: terms of circling back the way the Ravens circled back
[28:32] Speaker 2: on a really terrible memory of how their season or
[28:35] Speaker 2: postseason unfortunately ended, and how Tyler loop was was a
[28:39] Speaker 2: key element of that. To have this moment as the
[28:42] Speaker 2: last memory before their summer vacation, I thought was pretty solid.
[28:46] Speaker 1: That is great. And he spoke about a little bit
[28:49] Speaker 1: afterwards too, and that's an interesting spot there, and I
[28:53] Speaker 1: like it. It's a new coaching staff and you're you're
[28:56] Speaker 1: starting to start fresh. But man, imagine if you had
[28:58] Speaker 1: missed that kick, they totally duffed it to the right,
[29:02] Speaker 1: like everything sucks. Then you like like a total crisis.
[29:06] Speaker 1: It is sneaky, a lot of pressure. So they must
[29:09] Speaker 1: have been feeling great about what they had been seeing
[29:11] Speaker 1: from time.
[29:12] Speaker 2: Yeah, well they didn't bring in another kicker, they never did.
[29:15] Speaker 2: They don't didn't bring in competition, so I think that
[29:17] Speaker 2: helped too. The funny thing that I think about is like,
[29:21] Speaker 2: so for the listeners that don't know, in mini camp
[29:25] Speaker 2: and OTAs and training camp, they don't often use regulation
[29:30] Speaker 2: size field goalposts. They use what are called the skinny posts,
[29:33] Speaker 2: and they're about a third of the width of a
[29:36] Speaker 2: regular set of goalposts. They're easier to store obviously for
[29:40] Speaker 2: that reason, and then it also makes it a little
[29:42] Speaker 2: bit more challenging for the kicker to have to aim.
[29:45] Speaker 2: So it's like the stakes are already that your teammates
[29:47] Speaker 2: are going to be really annoyed with you if you
[29:50] Speaker 2: miss it. And then also they roll out in such
[29:52] Speaker 2: a high stakes situation this like circus set of goalposts,
[29:57] Speaker 2: which to me is like that even ups the end
[30:00] Speaker 2: to you a little bit more because you got to
[30:02] Speaker 2: hit it through a pinhole at that point.
[30:03] Speaker 1: That it's badass. It's Badass's that it sounds like he
[30:06] Speaker 1: had the right attitude. He said he heard from a
[30:08] Speaker 1: lot of other kickers who've gone through similar things, and
[30:11] Speaker 1: even some kickers' wives reached out to his wife. It's
[30:14] Speaker 1: like it's a whole community that and it's easy to
[30:17] Speaker 1: forget that they would have been a dangerous if nothing
[30:20] Speaker 1: else more, entertaining first round opponent for the Houston Texans
[30:24] Speaker 1: didn't happen. But now I think I think it worked
[30:26] Speaker 1: out better for them. I think they would have fired
[30:27] Speaker 1: John Harbaugh anyways, but you never know if maybe they
[30:30] Speaker 1: would have won a playoff game and then that would
[30:32] Speaker 1: have changed things. Because Declan Doyle lamar, like it's a
[30:36] Speaker 1: different vibe all the way around, and I'm excited to see,
[30:40] Speaker 1: like how that actually plays out.
[30:42] Speaker 5: Yeah.
[30:42] Speaker 2: I don't mean to overstate this because I think this
[30:45] Speaker 2: time of year, we do pay a lot of attention
[30:47] Speaker 2: and sometimes too much so to vibes coming out of
[30:51] Speaker 2: these ots or exciting reports coming out of these OTAs.
[30:55] Speaker 2: But Deckland Doyle another thing I do want to circle
[30:57] Speaker 2: back on Greg he He's given me a little bit
[31:00] Speaker 2: of Ben Johnson vibes in camp. First of all, the
[31:03] Speaker 2: way that players are talking about him. Second of all,
[31:06] Speaker 2: the way that he is on their asses every single day,
[31:11] Speaker 2: Like he took Mark Andrews off the field apparently, according
[31:15] Speaker 2: to reports there for a pre snap penalty that was
[31:18] Speaker 2: very Ben Johnson a year ago just remember like just
[31:21] Speaker 2: losing his gored absolute mind at these practices. He got
[31:25] Speaker 2: on Lamar Jackson for running the wrong play and Lamar
[31:29] Speaker 2: was laughing about it afterward that he cursed at him
[31:31] Speaker 2: and he was.
[31:31] Speaker 3: Like whoa man?
[31:32] Speaker 2: Like okay, and like was it seems like he's and
[31:36] Speaker 2: obviously Lamar is making light of it at the end
[31:39] Speaker 2: of the practice, but he's coaching hard over there, and
[31:42] Speaker 2: I think it's interesting. We'll see if he's really got
[31:45] Speaker 2: the stuff that they're saying about. I've heard really good
[31:47] Speaker 2: things even previous to him taking this job, but this
[31:52] Speaker 2: time year, it's always good to exercise caution about the
[31:54] Speaker 2: reports of the young new hotshot coordinator or assistant coach
[31:59] Speaker 2: that's on these teams. In this case, though, it is
[32:02] Speaker 2: something I'm gonna want to circle back on at training camp.
[32:05] Speaker 1: Lamar was seen in New York after the Knicks win,
[32:10] Speaker 1: celebrating with a bunch of Knicks fans just taking videos
[32:14] Speaker 1: outside and he's being super friendly about it. But I'm
[32:17] Speaker 1: not sure if that Lamar went to the game and
[32:19] Speaker 1: there were he did have some quotes that was like
[32:21] Speaker 1: the floor seats, you know, were so expensive, like it
[32:25] Speaker 1: was like fifty sixty K. Not the floor seats were crazy,
[32:28] Speaker 1: but even like the middle seat where you'd have to
[32:30] Speaker 1: be packed in, he was like, was like fifty K.
[32:32] Speaker 1: So I don't know if he actually paid the money
[32:34] Speaker 1: and he was just happened to be walking around New
[32:35] Speaker 1: York but celebrating the greatest comeback in finals history. All right, right?
[32:40] Speaker 1: Is that it for the Ravens or should we circle
[32:42] Speaker 1: back on We're.
[32:43] Speaker 3: Just one more thing?
[32:43] Speaker 2: Because he's his contract is not up this year obviously,
[32:49] Speaker 2: but there is some contract talk about him, and our
[32:52] Speaker 2: friend Ian Rapaport so on The Insiders the other day
[32:54] Speaker 2: that he would not be surprised if Lamar waited until
[32:57] Speaker 2: twenty twenty seven to really start pushing a little bit
[33:01] Speaker 2: more on that type of extension. He's got two years
[33:05] Speaker 2: left technically, has got next year and then a bunch
[33:07] Speaker 2: of void years, so undrafted free agency wouldn't be till
[33:12] Speaker 2: twenty twenty eight, and then there's like a ton of
[33:13] Speaker 2: void years. But there's also there's also that question you
[33:17] Speaker 2: don't want to play, you know, you know, want your
[33:19] Speaker 2: franchise quarterback. Leading up to the last year of his deal,
[33:22] Speaker 2: and there was such an annoying cycle about that last
[33:27] Speaker 2: contract and teams putting statements out there that they're by
[33:31] Speaker 2: no means were that interested in have that work out
[33:33] Speaker 2: for you, Atlanta Falcons. So I just I'd like to
[33:36] Speaker 2: avoid the annoying parts this time around. You know, pay
[33:40] Speaker 2: your best players, pay your superstars. But it sounds like
[33:43] Speaker 2: he would also, according to what Rapaport was saying, would
[33:47] Speaker 2: also be willing to wait to probably up the price
[33:49] Speaker 2: a little bit more right.
[33:51] Speaker 1: I think this is the case, and you don't think
[33:53] Speaker 1: of this for a multiple MVP winner. He's betting on
[33:58] Speaker 1: himself because he knows he holds the leverage here. His
[34:01] Speaker 1: salary cap number is eighty four million dollars next year,
[34:05] Speaker 1: so you have to adjust that. It's forty two the
[34:07] Speaker 1: year after that. So that's a total of one twenty
[34:09] Speaker 1: six the next two years, and he's not coming off
[34:11] Speaker 1: his best season. I love this as a race. If
[34:13] Speaker 1: you're a Ravens fan and you're hearing this it's a
[34:15] Speaker 1: new like everything we've heard so far in terms of
[34:18] Speaker 1: the shape is and all that, it sounds great, And
[34:20] Speaker 1: to me it sounds like I think that price is
[34:23] Speaker 1: going to go up even more after the badass season
[34:25] Speaker 1: I have. And I'm going to have you over a
[34:28] Speaker 1: barrel because that contract is untenable for you right now
[34:31] Speaker 1: the way the way it's structured in.
[34:33] Speaker 3: The South and no contingency plan.
[34:36] Speaker 1: Yes, well, of course, yeah, there's there's no replacing Lamar Jacks. Yeah,
[34:41] Speaker 1: although we do have Snuwpuntley there, which which I like
[34:44] Speaker 1: yelling at a rookie. I saw in one of the
[34:46] Speaker 1: write ups from your colleague, get the athletic. All right,
[34:48] Speaker 1: let's go to the Eagles, where we have a bunch
[34:51] Speaker 1: of little things. But I actually was able to procure
[34:54] Speaker 1: an email from Sean Manny and to Jalen Hurds brief
[35:00] Speaker 1: but he says, before we break for the summer, I
[35:03] Speaker 1: just want to say how much I appreciated you saying
[35:06] Speaker 1: Tuesday that it was a good spring because you onboarded
[35:09] Speaker 1: a new system. The synergy between our run game and
[35:12] Speaker 1: pass game has never been better. There's greater alignment with
[35:15] Speaker 1: aj Brown out of the building, and I love to
[35:18] Speaker 1: hear that you are going to touch base offline with
[35:20] Speaker 1: the receivers before camp. Can't wait to id eight on
[35:24] Speaker 1: ways to scale this up after the break, ping me
[35:27] Speaker 1: when you are back in town. Seems like they're.
[35:29] Speaker 2: Going, oh my god, you hit all the Bengos. That's great,
[35:34] Speaker 2: Oh my god. I d eight offline was was That's
[35:39] Speaker 2: where I started losing the alignment.
[35:41] Speaker 1: There's there's always a lot of alignment. I tried to
[35:44] Speaker 1: jam decision tree in there. That's one of the most
[35:47] Speaker 1: annoying ones that I couldn't think of how to get
[35:50] Speaker 1: decision tree synergy though, to uh to pivot to some
[35:54] Speaker 1: actual points that they're they're trying to make some synergy
[35:58] Speaker 1: between the run game and the pass game. That's been
[36:00] Speaker 1: the issue. I think that they've lived in these different worlds.
[36:04] Speaker 1: And I listened in prep for this very five minute
[36:07] Speaker 1: segment here to our friend bo Wolf doing a great
[36:11] Speaker 1: job with EJ. Smith on the Phoy podcast, and they said,
[36:14] Speaker 1: in this offseason, they would say it's been about eighty
[36:17] Speaker 1: percent under center snaps for Jalenhers, which is insane. Now,
[36:23] Speaker 1: there's no way they're going to be eighty percent in
[36:24] Speaker 1: the season. No NFL team is doing that, but I
[36:26] Speaker 1: think they're working on something. And they said it's been
[36:29] Speaker 1: uneven as you would expect. They haven't had DeVante Smith
[36:31] Speaker 1: out there for a lot of it. Makay Lemons hurt
[36:34] Speaker 1: and it's a new offense. Like, I'm not really worried
[36:36] Speaker 1: about how it's looking, but just the fact that they're
[36:38] Speaker 1: doing that tells me they're trying to marry the past
[36:41] Speaker 1: and the running And they said, for what it's worth,
[36:43] Speaker 1: which is in a ton in June, that the Running
[36:45] Speaker 1: game has popped a lot more than they believe it
[36:48] Speaker 1: normally would this time of year.
[36:49] Speaker 2: Yeah, I would just I would also say, and obviously
[36:52] Speaker 2: those guys do a great job, but as someone who's
[36:55] Speaker 2: kind of watched the system being built installed from the
[36:57] Speaker 2: ground up before, that's a direct setup for everything else
[37:03] Speaker 2: they're going to install. In training, camp is getting heavy, heavy,
[37:06] Speaker 2: heavy under center installs in OTAs, setting up the play
[37:10] Speaker 2: action out of under center packages, really understanding keywords, cues,
[37:15] Speaker 2: timing of those snaps, and what the play action has
[37:18] Speaker 2: to look like, and then getting more a little bit
[37:22] Speaker 2: more multiple gun runs, pistol things like that shotgun in general.
[37:27] Speaker 2: As camp progresses and installing a more diverse set of
[37:31] Speaker 2: pre snap looks and alignments. But you have to start
[37:34] Speaker 2: when you're building this thing from the ground up, you
[37:36] Speaker 2: do have to start there really get that timing and
[37:39] Speaker 2: a lot of those keywords down in what you're communicating
[37:43] Speaker 2: with the rest of your offense.
[37:44] Speaker 1: So one of the keywords was maybe, and I don't
[37:48] Speaker 1: want to paint with the broadbash. There's a few corporate
[37:51] Speaker 1: quarterbacks out there who have really taken the mantle from
[37:54] Speaker 1: how Peyton Manning used to be used to drive Chris
[37:57] Speaker 1: Westling crazy. He believes Peyton Manning chain quarterback press conferences
[38:01] Speaker 1: forever for how corporate he was. Jalen hurts Is is
[38:05] Speaker 1: kind of the next generation of that. Let's let's listen
[38:08] Speaker 1: to him find the corporate buzzword. In his statement, I thought.
[38:11] Speaker 7: It was a really good spring on being able to
[38:13] Speaker 7: onboard another new system and put everything together later foundation.
[38:19] Speaker 7: So you know, I'm encouraged by that. I'm encouraged by
[38:22] Speaker 7: the work that we were able to put in. Got
[38:24] Speaker 7: a fun summer ahead of us and it'll be a
[38:26] Speaker 7: fun training camp, being able to get back on the grass.
[38:28] Speaker 1: On board, on board, I mean, we got an NFL quarterback,
[38:32] Speaker 1: saying that he onboard it. He also answered some tough
[38:34] Speaker 1: questions on AJ Brown lead, and I thought he handled
[38:37] Speaker 1: that all really well. No major headlines out of that,
[38:40] Speaker 1: but my biggest headline is just that the offense is
[38:42] Speaker 1: going to be different and that he seems in a
[38:44] Speaker 1: very good mood. Was he's been defensive in the past
[38:46] Speaker 1: about a lot of things. Didn't think he's defensive right now.
[38:49] Speaker 1: Nick Sirianni not defensive really about the AJ Brown of
[38:51] Speaker 1: it all either, just saying they had great times together,
[38:53] Speaker 1: it's time to move on. But now they have the
[38:56] Speaker 1: battle that everyone is watching. Yeah, it's Andy Dalton versus
[39:00] Speaker 1: Tanner McKee.
[39:00] Speaker 9: Were obviously are rotating there at the two spot. I'm
[39:05] Speaker 9: not ready to say anybody is anything with as far
[39:09] Speaker 9: as positions, We don't have to make any determinations there.
[39:13] Speaker 9: But what Andy and Tanner been doing every other day
[39:16] Speaker 9: is rotating there with the twos and both getting a
[39:19] Speaker 9: lot of good work.
[39:20] Speaker 1: Supposedly, Andy Dalton's thrown like a million interceptions. I'm not
[39:25] Speaker 1: I'm not going to draw too many conclusions here, but yeah,
[39:28] Speaker 1: Bo has been joking about like every other Yeah, just
[39:31] Speaker 1: a ton of interceptions. So we'll see who wins that battle.
[39:33] Speaker 1: They also made us signing I found interesting Ajpanessa, who
[39:36] Speaker 1: I had in my top seventy free agents overall available.
[39:39] Speaker 1: I didn't I don't think fully understand the injury issues
[39:42] Speaker 1: that he was dealing with, which actually caused the Browns
[39:47] Speaker 1: to back out of an agreement where he failed a physical.
[39:49] Speaker 1: But he's an interesting name who's provided solid rotational snaps.
[39:53] Speaker 1: So they added a little more to their edge depth
[39:57] Speaker 1: and now they are done for the off seasons, so
[40:00] Speaker 1: along to the Eagles until late July. Are we ready
[40:03] Speaker 1: for the Cardinals uh to get corporate? Yes?
[40:07] Speaker 2: First of all, though I'm curious, what is what's one
[40:10] Speaker 2: that like really annoys you? Like, what's a what's a
[40:14] Speaker 2: corporate A corporate word or phrase that actually does kind
[40:20] Speaker 2: of get grind your gears a little.
[40:22] Speaker 1: Like the the from the tree Tops. I feel like that's.
[40:25] Speaker 3: Got from the Treetops.
[40:26] Speaker 1: Yes, it's like I think the problem is in like
[40:29] Speaker 1: the thirty thousand foot view different stuff. I think the
[40:32] Speaker 1: problem is people who use corporate lingo realize which ones
[40:36] Speaker 1: have gotten overused, and then they cycle in new ones.
[40:39] Speaker 1: But they're always just using some just just don't use
[40:41] Speaker 1: them in general.
[40:42] Speaker 2: I came upon a new one about a year ago
[40:46] Speaker 2: that really I don't know what it is about it
[40:49] Speaker 2: that it drives me nuts, and I don't understand why
[40:53] Speaker 2: it's used in meetings or whatever. When somebody makes a
[40:57] Speaker 2: point or brings up a suggestion. It's it's not even
[41:01] Speaker 2: an argument, it's okay, good call out, good call out,
[41:06] Speaker 2: And I'm like, well, who.
[41:08] Speaker 3: Who's being called out? That's a negative thing. This was
[41:11] Speaker 3: just a suggestion.
[41:12] Speaker 2: That one drives me nuts because I just think we
[41:14] Speaker 2: should say what we mean about things, right, like.
[41:18] Speaker 3: Good call out.
[41:19] Speaker 2: Well, that makes it sound like there's conflict when there's not.
[41:22] Speaker 2: There's there's you know, no functional suggestion, making.
[41:27] Speaker 1: Jordan famously avoiding conflict. I've been trying to coach her
[41:31] Speaker 1: up to call people out a little more.
[41:33] Speaker 2: No, you need to start saying good call out when
[41:35] Speaker 2: I when I actually do enter into conflict.
[41:40] Speaker 1: Offline Maybe actually is the one that makes my skin
[41:42] Speaker 1: crawl the most because it's just you. So it's so
[41:45] Speaker 1: that's let's just call it life.
[41:48] Speaker 3: Really upload you want to upload offline?
[41:50] Speaker 1: On that offline presumer presumes that the rest of life
[41:53] Speaker 1: is online. All right, we're going to wrap up here
[41:55] Speaker 1: with the Cardinals. We've got a lot to talk about
[41:57] Speaker 1: the Cardinals team of twenty twenty five NFL Daily That
[42:02] Speaker 1: let us all down. I think the expectation is going
[42:05] Speaker 1: to be a little lower this year.
[42:07] Speaker 3: Yeah, and similar to you.
[42:08] Speaker 2: I mean, we've done some really good sleuth thing here Greg,
[42:10] Speaker 2: because I've also procured an email. This is to owner
[42:15] Speaker 2: Michael Bidwell CC, head coach Mike Lafleur CC Management from
[42:21] Speaker 2: Jacoby Brissett, subject line per my last email. Hi, y'all
[42:28] Speaker 2: just wanted to put a final note on your desk
[42:30] Speaker 2: before the break. As per my last email and the
[42:33] Speaker 2: one before that, I will not be throwing live reps
[42:36] Speaker 2: until my contract is adjusted. If you'd like your brand
[42:39] Speaker 2: new head coach, already an underdog in the division to
[42:41] Speaker 2: roll out his new offense and training camp with a
[42:43] Speaker 2: rookie middle round draft pick at quarterback and not at
[42:46] Speaker 2: least pay me more money than Anthony Richardson is making
[42:48] Speaker 2: this year.
[42:49] Speaker 3: That's on you.
[42:50] Speaker 2: I mean, my cap number is in Gardner Minshew Jared's
[42:53] Speaker 2: Didham territory. Your all pro tight end will get more frustrated.
[42:56] Speaker 2: You'll waste more years of your young receivers rookie contract
[43:00] Speaker 2: and what happens to your new star Jeremiah Love and
[43:02] Speaker 2: your precious run game. If nobody fears the pass you
[43:05] Speaker 2: need me Jimmy g decided to contemplate retirement as a
[43:09] Speaker 2: backup rather than join this franchise as a starter, And
[43:12] Speaker 2: that's saying something because can you even imagine the kind
[43:14] Speaker 2: of damage that guy would do in Scottsdale? And are
[43:16] Speaker 2: you guys, by the way, are you guys watching Widow's Bay?
[43:18] Speaker 2: If I don't get paid, I'm gonna just keep showing
[43:21] Speaker 2: up on your sidelines looming in the distance as you
[43:23] Speaker 2: try to run from this conversation. Joining all the off
[43:26] Speaker 2: season memes about you all is another reminder of your
[43:28] Speaker 2: particularly circular organizational curse. And unlike Widow's Bay Episode eight,
[43:33] Speaker 2: the Boogeyman wins this one, bitch, And I say that
[43:36] Speaker 2: as a member of Team Patricia, my best all your
[43:39] Speaker 2: families and have a great summer.
[43:40] Speaker 1: Jacoby, WHOA that that wasn't passive aggressive? That was just aggressive.
[43:46] Speaker 1: I could imagine if you know, Bidwell was more you know,
[43:50] Speaker 1: conversant with the lingo like it just would reply like
[43:53] Speaker 1: t LDR, you know. But I to get to the
[43:57] Speaker 1: end of that because he's taken he's taken major shots there.
[44:01] Speaker 1: To Kobe Pressett, I don't know if that's the way
[44:03] Speaker 1: to approach it. If you're Dacoby Brissett. Let's let's actually
[44:06] Speaker 1: listen to Mike Lafleur talk about this quarterback battle right now?
[44:10] Speaker 9: Can you guys view as QB one hit in any
[44:12] Speaker 9: training camp?
[44:13] Speaker 8: Not really concerned about QB one right now. I'm concerned
[44:16] Speaker 8: about these guys all reporting one July twenty second. Really
[44:19] Speaker 8: more concerned about the next forty days and what these
[44:21] Speaker 8: guys are doing to, you know, continue, like you can't
[44:25] Speaker 8: take steps backwards.
[44:26] Speaker 1: That's not the quarterback, that's all these guys.
[44:28] Speaker 8: So literally, my only focus right now is that we
[44:30] Speaker 8: don't play again until September. It is June, whatever it
[44:34] Speaker 8: is right now, tenth or whatnot. So not worried about
[44:36] Speaker 8: that right now.
[44:37] Speaker 1: Your thoughts no longer the presumptive starter. Jacobey Brissett.
[44:42] Speaker 2: Yeah, okay, Like okay, I'm just gonna like upparse the
[44:46] Speaker 2: subtext there or download it, right like, yeah, I mean
[44:50] Speaker 2: that's that's and you know, Mike's got to do the
[44:54] Speaker 2: best he can in this situation, right It's not really
[44:57] Speaker 2: his call. He's not the one signing the contract, and
[45:01] Speaker 2: he wants to get his offense off the ground.
[45:03] Speaker 3: I would imagine that. So he's got to say that.
[45:06] Speaker 2: He has to say that, and he also has to
[45:09] Speaker 2: deflect immediately from questions about the quarterback to broadening it
[45:12] Speaker 2: out to the rest of the roster, like, good job
[45:14] Speaker 2: on the corporate on the corporate coach being there, Mike
[45:18] Speaker 2: learning fast.
[45:20] Speaker 1: I you know, had my ears perk up just a
[45:23] Speaker 1: little bit when he said July twenty second, they are
[45:27] Speaker 1: playing in the Hall of Fame game. This is the
[45:30] Speaker 1: latest possible that teams are showing up for training game
[45:34] Speaker 1: like we are in the latest cycle, the season starting
[45:36] Speaker 1: the latest except for that Wednesday game, But that is
[45:40] Speaker 1: a late first team to be showing up to training Gamp.
[45:42] Speaker 1: It's I don't know if that's good or bad for
[45:44] Speaker 1: us Jordan. We have a little more time to fill
[45:47] Speaker 1: in July, but yeah, maybe maybe look at the calendar,
[45:49] Speaker 1: take a few extra days off. Well, we're gonna be
[45:52] Speaker 1: taping through the dead period, but we aren't going to
[45:55] Speaker 1: be living up to our name. We're not going to
[45:56] Speaker 1: be exactly daily during the quiet time. They're the first
[46:00] Speaker 1: team to show up. That's when we really crank up,
[46:03] Speaker 1: and most of the teams are showing up at the
[46:05] Speaker 1: very end of camp. One of the things we'll be
[46:07] Speaker 1: tracking with this Cardinals team is just how they use
[46:10] Speaker 1: Jeremiah Love and he he being Mike Lafleur in the
[46:14] Speaker 1: middle of June where there's not a lot of news
[46:16] Speaker 1: to latch onto, concern the fantasy football community with his
[46:20] Speaker 1: quotes about his running back situation this week.
[46:23] Speaker 8: Just like if Steph Curry's on fire and he's supposed
[46:27] Speaker 8: to get his sub he's not taking the hot hand out,
[46:29] Speaker 8: And that's kind of the same approach he ended up taking.
[46:31] Speaker 1: With a back.
[46:32] Speaker 8: Like a back, just like a basketball player, any football
[46:35] Speaker 8: player can get into a rhythm. It's like, just keep
[46:37] Speaker 8: giving him the football like he's just feeling it right now.
[46:39] Speaker 1: So it's a totally nothing burger of a quote. Calm down, fantasy.
[46:44] Speaker 1: If Tyler Algier is really rolling, like yeah, there's plenty
[46:49] Speaker 1: to go around for both of them, don't worry.
[46:51] Speaker 2: I mean, if there's one thing that every NFL head
[46:54] Speaker 2: coach and offensive coordinator is specifically thinking about when putting
[46:57] Speaker 2: together their game plan, it is your fantasy football roster.
[47:01] Speaker 1: And Steph Curry apparently. I don't know if Algier or
[47:04] Speaker 1: James Connor at this point of his career is going
[47:07] Speaker 1: to get hot like Steph Curry. I'd view that as
[47:08] Speaker 1: a positive that Jeremiah Love could be that guy getting
[47:11] Speaker 1: hot and they're going to leave him out there. I'm
[47:13] Speaker 1: not worried about him at all. I am worried about
[47:16] Speaker 1: the other Proctor in the draft. By the way, kind
[47:18] Speaker 1: of an under the radar gem that a lot of
[47:20] Speaker 1: people like Caleb Proctor, who the Cards drafted, is going
[47:23] Speaker 1: to be out for the season. It was revealed unfortunately.
[47:26] Speaker 1: So those are the worst items of news. I think
[47:29] Speaker 1: it was an achilles injury and and so that's a
[47:32] Speaker 1: fourth round pick that they won't be able to get
[47:34] Speaker 1: any production out of. We got production out of our
[47:39] Speaker 1: We don't like weight bearing walls. But you do, you do?
[47:44] Speaker 1: You said you didn't say it sounded great, But well,
[47:46] Speaker 1: I think it's funny.
[47:47] Speaker 3: I think it sounds trying to be the.
[47:48] Speaker 1: Foundation upon which you know, NFL Daily, NFL Media podcast
[47:54] Speaker 1: group is built. Jordan, I think we're doing a hell
[47:57] Speaker 1: of a job. We got a big show on Monday.
[48:00] Speaker 1: We have our Flag Football Extravaganza, you and Eric and
[48:06] Speaker 1: Chris and all the people at Flag and NFL. You've
[48:09] Speaker 1: been working on this one behind the scenes. It's been percolating.
[48:13] Speaker 1: And Yeah, while the rest of the world talks football,
[48:17] Speaker 1: we're going to talk about our new Olympic sport a
[48:19] Speaker 1: little bit on Monday. So that's going to be a
[48:21] Speaker 1: deep dive. I'm looking forward to that with you.
[48:23] Speaker 2: Yeah, anytime you get to talk to future Olympians, sign
[48:26] Speaker 2: me up.
[48:27] Speaker 1: Yes, it is exciting. Next week we will also be
[48:31] Speaker 1: wrapping up all the mini camps for all the teams
[48:34] Speaker 1: around the league, so that we'll have covered on that.
[48:35] Speaker 1: We'll have some rankings, but this is it for this
[48:38] Speaker 1: week on NFL Daily. Now, if we're leaving for forty days,
[48:42] Speaker 1: football is not really quite back
