[0:04] Speaker 1: Welcome to NFL Daily, where we're ready to crank up
[0:08] Speaker 1: that supplemental mock draft coming. I'm Greg Rossethal here in
[0:12] Speaker 1: the Chris Wesley podcast studio with my friend Patrick Clayband.
[0:15] Speaker 1: Appreciated everyone who checked out and enjoyed the Flag Football
[0:19] Speaker 1: Extravaganza on Monday.
[0:21] Speaker 2: If not, go check it out.
[0:22] Speaker 1: But for today's show, Patrick, we're diving back into the news.
[0:27] Speaker 1: A lot to catch up on, including what's going to
[0:30] Speaker 1: be our first supplemental draft. It appears in seven years.
[0:34] Speaker 1: Do you know what the supplemental draft is? Yeah, guys
[0:37] Speaker 1: get left out of the process. Maybe you know something
[0:40] Speaker 1: doesn't necessarily work out. There's a supplemental an extra and
[0:44] Speaker 1: adendum to the NFL draft where you can utilize your
[0:48] Speaker 1: pick value on one of these players. And generally it
[0:53] Speaker 1: hasn't been worth it.
[0:54] Speaker 2: Well they haven't. It hasn't happened very often lately.
[0:56] Speaker 1: But back back in my day, you know, I feel
[1:00] Speaker 1: like in the in the oughts, in the early you
[1:03] Speaker 1: know tens, we had a supplemental draft every year, just
[1:06] Speaker 1: usually be like a third or fourth or fifth round
[1:07] Speaker 1: pick because some player would be ruled ineligible that wasn't
[1:11] Speaker 1: expected to be now that doesn't tend to happen. But yes,
[1:14] Speaker 1: Brandon Soresby is where we're starting the news. We have
[1:18] Speaker 1: some important chip Watch updates. Yes, we have some contracts.
[1:22] Speaker 1: We have some of our old favorites with good sound,
[1:26] Speaker 1: Dan Campbell, Jim Harbaugh, and we do have a little
[1:28] Speaker 1: update from Patrick Claibon who watched the beautiful game live
[1:32] Speaker 1: across the street, so Fie, so I do want to
[1:34] Speaker 1: hear a little bit about that. To wrap the show,
[1:36] Speaker 1: we'll start with Soresby. If you have n't been tracking
[1:39] Speaker 1: this story, he was a transfer from Cincinnati to Texas Tech,
[1:43] Speaker 1: thought of as a promising pro prospect, got about five
[1:47] Speaker 1: million dollars reportedly in nil money.
[1:50] Speaker 3: Thank you for that.
[1:51] Speaker 1: You always don't believe the NL nil recording. But he
[1:58] Speaker 1: then admitted to gambling a lot on a lot of
[2:04] Speaker 1: college football games and other sports, including his own team,
[2:08] Speaker 1: and entered a rehabilitation program. The college football world was
[2:14] Speaker 1: up in arms when a judge in Texas decided Soresby
[2:19] Speaker 1: would be eligible to play, but weirdly that decision seems
[2:23] Speaker 1: to have led directly to him not playing for Texas
[2:25] Speaker 1: Tech because the criticism the outroar of the college football
[2:32] Speaker 1: like apparatus allowing Soorsby to potentially play this year was
[2:35] Speaker 1: so aggressive. I think he just decided in Texas Tech
[2:39] Speaker 1: decided it is not worth the trouble that came on
[2:41] Speaker 1: the same day as the Big Twelve actually filed a
[2:44] Speaker 1: lawsuit which would have allowed teams to sanction Texas Tech,
[2:47] Speaker 1: maybe not even play against them.
[2:49] Speaker 2: Who knows.
[2:49] Speaker 1: It sounds like either Soresby or Texas Tech or both
[2:53] Speaker 1: of them just decided this isn't worth the trouble, and
[2:56] Speaker 1: so he is applying for the supplemental draft. And it's
[2:59] Speaker 1: a rare time that I've covered the league where the
[3:02] Speaker 1: supplemental draft has a real intrigue because if you squinted,
[3:06] Speaker 1: like I'm hearing some people say they would some team
[3:08] Speaker 1: use a first round pick, would some team use a
[3:10] Speaker 1: second round pick? I think a third round pick is
[3:12] Speaker 1: very much in play for a talented quarterback. But there
[3:16] Speaker 1: are obviously concerns about him.
[3:18] Speaker 2: Patrick.
[3:19] Speaker 3: Yeah.
[3:19] Speaker 4: We you know, those of us shield adjacent now and
[3:24] Speaker 4: who still protect and carry the Shield do countless hours
[3:27] Speaker 4: of Ninjao training to be fully aware of the NFL
[3:31] Speaker 4: gambling policy, to know every apparatus in every aspect everything
[3:35] Speaker 4: you were allowed to do and not do with relation
[3:37] Speaker 4: to a casino or sports betting, which is nothing. You
[3:40] Speaker 4: can't do nothing. In fact, the prescription is to snitch
[3:44] Speaker 4: on people who do. There's a specific snitch hotline to
[3:47] Speaker 4: call out anybody who's taking part in this process. And
[3:49] Speaker 4: so Brendan Storesby's gonna have to navigate that. The decision
[3:53] Speaker 4: and the appeal decision. The statements, everything to me seems
[3:58] Speaker 4: to indicate that Brendan Storesby is still very willing to
[4:01] Speaker 4: take calculated risks.
[4:03] Speaker 1: Mmm.
[4:05] Speaker 2: Nailed it is.
[4:06] Speaker 4: This is a bet on yourself, and I think teams
[4:11] Speaker 4: are going to be comfortable with it. You know, you see, Kylee,
[4:14] Speaker 4: you see all these things in any number of places,
[4:17] Speaker 4: or people are willing to partner up with. Are you
[4:20] Speaker 4: willing to devote the energy and attention to a particular
[4:22] Speaker 4: player that's at quarterback?
[4:23] Speaker 3: That's going to be all of these things.
[4:25] Speaker 4: Because there's been a lot of distraction talk during my
[4:28] Speaker 4: time covering the National Football.
[4:30] Speaker 3: League, this would fall into that.
[4:32] Speaker 4: But it seems that only certain distractions are worthwhile, and
[4:37] Speaker 4: so this one probably wouldn't be that much of an issue.
[4:41] Speaker 3: For other teams.
[4:42] Speaker 1: I think he's only taking that calculated risk because they
[4:45] Speaker 1: felt like they had no other good alternatives because it
[4:50] Speaker 1: would have been miserable to try to play for Texas Tech.
[4:53] Speaker 2: Maybe they were.
[4:54] Speaker 1: Getting the feel legally that it wasn't going to happen anyways,
[4:57] Speaker 1: it was going to become a problem for the university
[5:00] Speaker 1: and in general. It was just like, Okay, I guess
[5:02] Speaker 1: I'll do the thing I didn't really want to do,
[5:04] Speaker 1: which was go pro instead of getting this money and
[5:08] Speaker 1: getting better, because he seems like a player that could
[5:12] Speaker 1: use the development. Plus he might want his life to
[5:16] Speaker 1: calm down a little bit after being embroiled in this
[5:19] Speaker 1: you know, crazy gambling fiasco.
[5:21] Speaker 4: Yeah, the supplemental draft isn't going to calm it down
[5:24] Speaker 4: very much. But six three, two thirty five, twenty seven touchdowns,
[5:27] Speaker 4: five interceptions, this is a player that's going to get
[5:29] Speaker 4: a lot of energy and attention. I think about Tim
[5:32] Speaker 4: Tebow's cell phone number getting leaked. I think about people
[5:35] Speaker 4: throwing fake money at Johnny Manziel and at Cam Newton.
[5:39] Speaker 4: Message board drama is always going to be a part
[5:41] Speaker 4: of college football, as well as snippy lawsuits and teams
[5:44] Speaker 4: saying that they're going to do this and threatening consequences
[5:47] Speaker 4: for that. That's just a general part of college football.
[5:51] Speaker 4: And if those things were enough to say, all right,
[5:53] Speaker 4: I'm out for Texas Tech and for Soresby. I just
[5:57] Speaker 4: think those are the things that everybody has to deal
[5:59] Speaker 4: with an extent, especially when you're playing at a high level.
[6:02] Speaker 3: But good luck to him. Hopefully he's better.
[6:06] Speaker 1: And and yeah, well I think NFL teams have to
[6:09] Speaker 1: be concerned if he's was truly addicted to gambling, which
[6:15] Speaker 1: by his actions and his statements, you have to take
[6:18] Speaker 1: them at their word.
[6:19] Speaker 2: And he was gambling a lot. I mean it was.
[6:24] Speaker 1: And losing that's the most important part, as one does
[6:28] Speaker 1: when one gambles generally, I mean, he's he's one strike away,
[6:33] Speaker 1: you would think from lifetime banishment, and there is a
[6:37] Speaker 1: world where he could be suspended. We don't know that.
[6:41] Speaker 1: NFL teams don't really know that. I don't know if
[6:43] Speaker 1: they're going to get any clarity on that. Kish On
[6:46] Speaker 1: Booty admitted to gambling in college, not as extensively, and
[6:50] Speaker 1: he only admitted it a year after he was already
[6:53] Speaker 1: in the NFL. They didn't take any action against kaish
[6:56] Speaker 1: On Booty, so who knows they.
[6:59] Speaker 4: But you know, NFL conduct, the decisions tend to track
[7:04] Speaker 4: with reaction and conversation.
[7:06] Speaker 2: Good point.
[7:07] Speaker 1: So yeah, the NFL might feel like they have to
[7:09] Speaker 1: make a stance here, so he would maybe be suspended.
[7:13] Speaker 1: For those curious, like what kind of player he is?
[7:15] Speaker 1: And I read a lot about him. I watched some
[7:18] Speaker 1: of his tape. Look, he was the number one ESPN
[7:24] Speaker 1: Transfer portal recruit this offseason and this is before all
[7:28] Speaker 1: this happened.
[7:29] Speaker 2: So he was a highly thought of player.
[7:33] Speaker 1: Depending on the draft analysts that you want to trust,
[7:35] Speaker 1: people think he probably would have been the third quarterback
[7:38] Speaker 1: in this last draft. It wasn't a great draft. If
[7:41] Speaker 1: you put him into next year's draft, who knows. You
[7:43] Speaker 1: could go from Nate Tice, who I reached out to
[7:46] Speaker 1: last week actually when it sounded like he was going back,
[7:49] Speaker 1: and yeah, he thought he had him as like a
[7:52] Speaker 1: third or fourth round type of guy. Back in the day,
[7:54] Speaker 1: he would say, supplemental draft, you almost knock a round
[7:56] Speaker 1: off it because it's it's a pain in the ass.
[7:58] Speaker 1: Almost put him around lower than he normally would. That's
[8:01] Speaker 1: where he had him. But he is the type of
[8:03] Speaker 1: player that some teams could get excited about because it's
[8:06] Speaker 1: like arm angles, it's scrambling.
[8:11] Speaker 2: He looked.
[8:12] Speaker 1: He's physically talented a lot of rushing yards as a pro,
[8:16] Speaker 1: and then he's really avoided like turnover worthy plays according
[8:20] Speaker 1: to PFF, and mistakes and sacks. So that's a nice
[8:23] Speaker 1: combination of like, highly talented, doesn't make a lot of mistakes,
[8:28] Speaker 1: but doesn't necessarily show a lot of the stuff that
[8:32] Speaker 1: gets Tice specifically excited, which is a lot of like
[8:35] Speaker 1: the real quarterback, he going through your progressions and anticipation,
[8:39] Speaker 1: and so you haven't really seen a lot. He's kind
[8:42] Speaker 1: of an unmolded clay type of guy who could have
[8:44] Speaker 1: used another year of college.
[8:45] Speaker 4: And so somebody that feels comfortable in a developmental situation
[8:51] Speaker 4: where you can coincide that with monitoring and making sure
[8:54] Speaker 4: that there's relapse, you know that we don't have any
[8:56] Speaker 4: issues like that, then I think a team will be
[8:59] Speaker 4: perfectly with a two.
[9:00] Speaker 2: I mean, yeah, how can you be that sure of that?
[9:04] Speaker 1: But okay, I looked at the teams that have some
[9:07] Speaker 1: extra draft picks here that also need quarterbacks.
[9:10] Speaker 2: Here's a few.
[9:11] Speaker 1: The Miami Dolphins have four third round picks. I mean
[9:15] Speaker 1: that one stood out to me. So the way it
[9:19] Speaker 1: works with the supplemental Draft, you can't. First of all,
[9:22] Speaker 1: it's done over email. It's way too complicated to explain
[9:26] Speaker 1: how the teams are structured, but it's essentially six wins
[9:31] Speaker 1: are under teams that didn't make the playoffs, six wins
[9:34] Speaker 1: and over and other teams, and then they randomly.
[9:38] Speaker 2: Sort of create an order each round.
[9:40] Speaker 1: So it's it's very confusing, but it's basically by email,
[9:43] Speaker 1: which is funny. And I looked at the teams with
[9:47] Speaker 1: the extra middle round picks and need the quarterback. Miami
[9:49] Speaker 1: has four third round picks. Okay, Minnesota, they could use
[9:53] Speaker 1: a quarterback. They could, they could add someone.
[9:55] Speaker 2: They have two.
[9:56] Speaker 1: The Jets have two twos and two to one. My
[10:00] Speaker 1: Jets friends are asking the Jets were the Jets going
[10:03] Speaker 1: on sowersby what do you think? That seems a little rich,
[10:05] Speaker 1: but a two you have an extra two?
[10:06] Speaker 4: Yeah, I guess it depends. And this is something we
[10:09] Speaker 4: were discussing in our meeting. When you have multiple picks
[10:11] Speaker 4: in the same round for the supplemental draft, can you
[10:13] Speaker 4: do you designate which pick?
[10:15] Speaker 2: That is no idea, but good, good question.
[10:18] Speaker 1: Probably right, I would guess yeah, Because then the other teams,
[10:23] Speaker 1: for instance, that.
[10:25] Speaker 2: I don't even know how that would work.
[10:26] Speaker 1: Yeah, because the NFL would need to know the order
[10:29] Speaker 1: if another team went for a second round pick. You
[10:32] Speaker 1: have to have a established order. So yes, I would
[10:33] Speaker 1: guess that they would designate which of their twos. Pittsburgh
[10:37] Speaker 1: could use a quarterback, although they've got some young ones.
[10:40] Speaker 1: They have three third round picks. Arizona could use a quarterback.
[10:43] Speaker 1: I would say in general, they don't have any extra pick.
[10:46] Speaker 1: Pittsburgh also has two fours, so between three threes and
[10:49] Speaker 1: two fours. In Miami having four threes, I think a
[10:53] Speaker 1: third round pick is possible here. If I had to
[10:56] Speaker 1: do the over under, that's where I would put it.
[10:58] Speaker 3: Yeah, I think third round is expected.
[11:01] Speaker 1: Really, I think teams are anxious to give up future picks.
[11:05] Speaker 1: And you mentioned the timing of it. All teams are
[11:07] Speaker 1: breaking for the summer right now. Although the supplemental Draft
[11:10] Speaker 1: doesn't have a date on it, it might be late July,
[11:12] Speaker 1: so so someone will be working on this surely, But
[11:17] Speaker 1: teams to want to give up extra picks in next
[11:20] Speaker 1: year's draft, which is supposed to be loaded, so maybe
[11:22] Speaker 1: a third.
[11:23] Speaker 4: They love quarterbacks, okay, they love certain types of quarterbacks
[11:26] Speaker 4: and you know, he has an agent, so he's not
[11:28] Speaker 4: a bad person.
[11:31] Speaker 3: There's none of those concerns. He speaks their language back in.
[11:35] Speaker 1: The day, and we will move on and then fly
[11:36] Speaker 1: through the rest of this news. Back in the day.
[11:38] Speaker 1: One of my favorite items of annual content on NFL
[11:42] Speaker 1: dot com, back when Henry Hodgson, who now runs all
[11:45] Speaker 1: of international and runs nfl.
[11:48] Speaker 3: UK basically a global emperor.
[11:50] Speaker 1: Yeah, he used to just run the NFL dot on website,
[11:54] Speaker 1: like where things go on it and whatnot. And he
[11:56] Speaker 1: used to have the piece of content he would write
[11:59] Speaker 1: every year, supplemental mock draft where it just would have
[12:02] Speaker 1: pass pass pass, pass pass for three straight rounds, all
[12:06] Speaker 1: thirty two teams until like someone took a guy in
[12:09] Speaker 1: the fifth round or whatever. It was great, So let's
[12:13] Speaker 1: bring that content back. But I went, knowing how much
[12:15] Speaker 1: he loved the supplemental draft, I asked him for a quote.
[12:19] Speaker 1: I didn't really ask him, we were just texting, but
[12:21] Speaker 1: I asked if I could use this quote and he
[12:23] Speaker 1: said it was okay. He says, I can say, with authority,
[12:26] Speaker 1: as a supplemental draft enthusiast that this will be the
[12:29] Speaker 1: greatest supplemental draft since either the nineteen eighty five Bernie
[12:33] Speaker 1: Kozar Draft.
[12:34] Speaker 2: That was crazy.
[12:35] Speaker 1: He was one of the highly most highly touted guys
[12:37] Speaker 1: goes out in the Supplemental or the nineteen eighty nine
[12:40] Speaker 1: Supplemental Draft when the Cowboys shocked the world to take
[12:43] Speaker 1: Steve Walsh first just to compete with Troy Aikman who
[12:47] Speaker 1: they had just taken first, and then the great Bobby
[12:50] Speaker 1: Humphrey went a few rounds later, as well as Tim Rosenbach.
[12:53] Speaker 1: So we have not had the heat in the supplemental
[12:56] Speaker 1: draft according to Henry since nineteen eighty nine that we
[12:59] Speaker 1: have this.
[13:00] Speaker 4: One fourth round nineteen eighty seven to one Chris Carter.
[13:03] Speaker 1: Okay, so there's been some other great players. Yeah, the
[13:06] Speaker 1: Hall of Famer guys with controversy end up in the
[13:09] Speaker 1: album that Steve Wallsh's story is one of those where
[13:13] Speaker 1: I think about how different it would be in today's media.
[13:15] Speaker 1: Obviously was getting a lot of attention back then in
[13:18] Speaker 1: Dallas too, But for Jimmy Johnson, who didn't really like
[13:22] Speaker 1: Troy Aikman, to take this guy Steve Walsh first in
[13:25] Speaker 1: the supplemental Draft and ended up being like you know,
[13:28] Speaker 1: immediately after, and that was when they were the worst
[13:32] Speaker 1: team in the league. So, you know, immediately after having
[13:35] Speaker 1: Troy Aikman first overall and being like this is gonna
[13:39] Speaker 1: this was kind of his favorite in Jerry Jones like
[13:42] Speaker 1: Akman was Jerry Jones's guy. I mean that's spicy, and
[13:44] Speaker 1: then Aikman ends up being, you know, a legend.
[13:47] Speaker 2: Yeah, that's good stuff.
[13:48] Speaker 4: Walsh torched Arkansas in his senior year. That's what happened.
[13:51] Speaker 4: That's how you got Jerry on board.
[13:52] Speaker 1: Okay, we've got some contracts Sean Payton five year extension
[13:57] Speaker 1: to align with George Peyton. We've got the Peyton locked
[14:00] Speaker 1: up in Denver, and also the Broncos signed UFL MVP
[14:06] Speaker 1: Keem Butler. If you remember a draft back in the
[14:09] Speaker 1: day that a lot of us in football Twitter got
[14:11] Speaker 1: excited about Keem Butler.
[14:12] Speaker 2: He's now in the Broncos.
[14:13] Speaker 4: Yeah, and he's killing the UFL every single season, and
[14:16] Speaker 4: it's like he ends up back there and it's like,
[14:17] Speaker 4: stop letting this dude go in there and torch those guys.
[14:20] Speaker 3: They don't deserve that.
[14:21] Speaker 1: How about Sean Payton just making it happen in his
[14:24] Speaker 1: second tenure.
[14:25] Speaker 4: Somebody asked Somebody asked him, like how much long are
[14:27] Speaker 4: you going to do this? He's sixty two years old.
[14:29] Speaker 4: He got like the well coach, this is the last one.
[14:34] Speaker 1: He I view him differently, not that I wouldn't have
[14:38] Speaker 1: viewed him as one of the greatest offensive coaches of
[14:40] Speaker 1: this generation, but to do it again that not only
[14:44] Speaker 1: so many coaches have done that Bo Nicks. By the way,
[14:46] Speaker 1: at Mini camp, they're one of the eleven teams practicing
[14:49] Speaker 1: right now. We are down to eleven. They're practicing Tuesday Wednesday.
[14:52] Speaker 1: I think they're done. I don't know if there's a
[14:54] Speaker 1: team practicing on Thursday, maybe one or two. The Broncos
[14:57] Speaker 1: are one of them. Bo Nicks is out there doing
[14:59] Speaker 1: individual so that's good progress for him coming off of
[15:02] Speaker 1: an injury, and in camp he'll be throwing a Hikeeen Butler.
[15:05] Speaker 1: Another contract, Jalen Cocher gets a three year, thirty five
[15:10] Speaker 1: million dollar extension. Great money for a guy who came
[15:14] Speaker 1: in as an undrafted free agent, but also a great
[15:18] Speaker 1: bet by the Panthers on a player who's been outstanding
[15:22] Speaker 1: for them. This is a contract where in a year
[15:24] Speaker 1: or two, even right now, you might be like, huh,
[15:27] Speaker 1: that's one of the best deals for a team. But yeah,
[15:30] Speaker 1: I never I never mind a player taking the bird
[15:32] Speaker 1: in the hand and taking that money.
[15:33] Speaker 4: Yeah, and the team sending that offer out there because
[15:37] Speaker 4: you can do it like the Jags, Like, what is
[15:40] Speaker 4: it going to take to pay Parker Washington next year?
[15:43] Speaker 3: You could just go ahead and solve the issue.
[15:46] Speaker 2: Now here's the thing.
[15:47] Speaker 1: If Parker Washington got offered that contract you, it would
[15:50] Speaker 1: have turned it down.
[15:50] Speaker 2: Just my guess, Yeah, turn it down, and he should.
[15:52] Speaker 3: You gotta go up.
[15:54] Speaker 1: I I do want, Like, I don't know how much
[15:59] Speaker 1: guaranteed money is in that Coker deal, Probably a lot
[16:01] Speaker 1: over the first two years. But you're a guy who,
[16:03] Speaker 1: for what it's worth, has only as good as he's looked,
[16:07] Speaker 1: only as eight hundred and seventy two yards in his
[16:09] Speaker 1: first two seasons he was undrafted. As someone is willing
[16:12] Speaker 1: to give you, let's say, twenty million dollars guaranteed, I'm
[16:17] Speaker 1: just taking that.
[16:18] Speaker 2: I don't care.
[16:19] Speaker 1: I'm not I'm not I'm not negotiating hard, just like,
[16:21] Speaker 1: let's change my life. Joe Tipman also getting life changing money.
[16:26] Speaker 1: He was a mid round or was he second round
[16:29] Speaker 1: pick by the Jets who was starting at center, but
[16:32] Speaker 1: last year they moved him to guard thirty five million
[16:35] Speaker 1: dollars guaranteed if you ground up on a four year,
[16:37] Speaker 1: sixty six million dollar extension. A great young offensive line.
[16:43] Speaker 1: They really like Tipman. You obviously like the talent at
[16:46] Speaker 1: tackle playing in front of Gino Smith, who looked rejuvenated
[16:49] Speaker 1: and quite fresh and happy at the podium in a
[16:52] Speaker 1: Jets uniform on Tuesday.
[16:53] Speaker 4: Yeah, the vibes are up in the area clearly. You know,
[16:57] Speaker 4: you go from the og tip Man to tip Man
[17:01] Speaker 4: getting a deal where it's it's things are looking up.
[17:05] Speaker 4: And you know, in terms of Jets that have gotten extensions,
[17:07] Speaker 4: like Sauce and Quinn got extended, but they got traded
[17:10] Speaker 4: like this is. They haven't had a homegrown Jet get
[17:16] Speaker 4: a deal where you know it's gonna work out in
[17:18] Speaker 4: a while.
[17:18] Speaker 1: So well, it's interesting the positions that this new staff
[17:21] Speaker 1: has invested. I mean, Garrett Wilson got his contract and
[17:24] Speaker 1: then this offseason specifically Briest Hall a running back and
[17:28] Speaker 1: Tipman at right guard. But yeah, you have Tipman, Membu
[17:31] Speaker 1: and Fashanu locked in long term as three core pieces.
[17:36] Speaker 2: I like that line.
[17:37] Speaker 1: I like the vibes coming out of floor him. Let's
[17:41] Speaker 1: talk about Dallas. George Pickens shows up to Mini camp,
[17:45] Speaker 1: no surprise, he is sitting out team drills. That's kind
[17:48] Speaker 1: of the move that is happening for players who are
[17:51] Speaker 1: either a little injured but not too injured, or are
[17:53] Speaker 1: looking for new contracts. The Cowboys said they were excited
[17:56] Speaker 1: to have him. Brian Schottenheimer he always handles these things well.
[18:00] Speaker 1: He said, it's gonna be coach Pickens this week.
[18:02] Speaker 3: I like that.
[18:03] Speaker 1: Schottenheimer's like he's a you know, they used to use
[18:06] Speaker 1: players coach as like a derogatory word. I think Brian
[18:09] Speaker 1: Schottenhomer is a player's coach in a positive sense.
[18:12] Speaker 4: Yeah, a person who understands people, including the people he
[18:15] Speaker 4: works for, and he's not trying to manipulate them.
[18:17] Speaker 3: He just manages them properly. So shout out to coach Shotty.
[18:20] Speaker 1: Michael Pennix is at mini camp for the Falcons, not
[18:24] Speaker 1: yet cleared for teamwork. That was up in the air.
[18:27] Speaker 1: He of course coming back from that big knee injury.
[18:30] Speaker 1: They say he should be ready for teamwork in training camp,
[18:34] Speaker 1: but for now it's too a tongue of Biloa getting
[18:36] Speaker 1: those reps. We've got an exciting chip Watch update, so
[18:42] Speaker 1: much chipwatch talk. But this really was kickstarted by Patrick
[18:46] Speaker 1: noticing some Leonard Williams quotes from last week. We actually
[18:52] Speaker 1: have the sound for this. Let's listen.
[18:54] Speaker 5: I think I'd be lying if I said there wasn't
[18:55] Speaker 5: a little extra motivation from here in that type of stuff.
[18:58] Speaker 5: There's a little extra like on our shoulder. You know,
[19:01] Speaker 5: we just came off of a Super Bowl, you know,
[19:06] Speaker 5: winning season, and people are still you know, giving other
[19:08] Speaker 5: people favorites over us. But at the same time, like
[19:11] Speaker 5: I said, it's like, it's always about us, it's about
[19:12] Speaker 5: our process. I think that is still adding fuel to
[19:16] Speaker 5: the fire for guys. But at the same time, we're
[19:17] Speaker 5: going to stick to our process regardless of what other
[19:19] Speaker 5: people outside may think.
[19:22] Speaker 4: He is so motivated now just imagine, just imagine, because
[19:27] Speaker 4: people said things, they said things about Sam Darnold last year. Yeah,
[19:30] Speaker 4: and now they're saying about them after they won. He's
[19:33] Speaker 4: not just putting chips on. He's putting extra chips on
[19:37] Speaker 4: Super Bowl back to back.
[19:38] Speaker 1: You've been you've been monitoring different chips in the different
[19:42] Speaker 1: ways that they can help a team perform. I mean,
[19:45] Speaker 1: you just put a little chip on my shoulder. The
[19:47] Speaker 1: fact that you were professionally able to answer a phone call,
[19:50] Speaker 1: take the information and while that sound was happening, hang
[19:53] Speaker 1: up in time, just in time for to end, and
[19:56] Speaker 1: then have a cojin thought right after it.
[19:58] Speaker 4: Well, yeah, because the when I heard, when I heard,
[20:01] Speaker 4: because that was one of my first entries into the
[20:04] Speaker 4: twenty twenty six chip Tracker. Okay, was the fact that
[20:07] Speaker 4: not only because you have to add yourself off the
[20:10] Speaker 4: chip tracker, but what he did was he added the
[20:12] Speaker 4: entire team. The entire team is going to try extra hard.
[20:15] Speaker 4: So I'm sorry, Rams like Miles like Welcome to Los Angeles,
[20:19] Speaker 4: not gonna work out.
[20:20] Speaker 2: Yeah, I do worry about him now.
[20:22] Speaker 1: Ernest Jones has a really interesting perspective on Chipwatch in
[20:27] Speaker 1: terms of being a defending champ because he was on
[20:30] Speaker 1: the defending champs when the Rams were defending the title
[20:34] Speaker 1: five years ago, and so he can compare it one
[20:36] Speaker 1: to one comparison. He was quoted this week saying, I
[20:39] Speaker 1: think the mindset it's just kind of different the first
[20:41] Speaker 1: time with the Rams. We were trying to defend it
[20:44] Speaker 1: this time. Last year doesn't matter. Last year is not
[20:47] Speaker 1: going to help us. So he's he's saying we aren't
[20:50] Speaker 1: we aren't like that team which collapsed under the way
[20:54] Speaker 1: of Sean McVay, not fulfilling you know, his soul by
[20:58] Speaker 1: winning a Super Bowl.
[20:59] Speaker 4: And that's what makes it difficult about chips and the
[21:03] Speaker 4: mode that they provide it. Sometimes it's not authentic and
[21:05] Speaker 4: somebody will tell you that they are trying extra hard,
[21:09] Speaker 4: but regardless of all the actual quantifiable things that we
[21:13] Speaker 4: can see that were done on the football field, you
[21:15] Speaker 4: can just look back afterwards and say they didn't try
[21:17] Speaker 4: as hard because they weren't motivated.
[21:18] Speaker 3: So being facetious.
[21:19] Speaker 1: By the way, so Kyle Uschek was on our air
[21:24] Speaker 1: NFL Insiders, Yeah, just the Insiders.
[21:29] Speaker 3: Yeah, I wasn't there for that one.
[21:31] Speaker 2: Oh you weren't there for that. Yeah, you are going
[21:32] Speaker 2: to be hosting though I.
[21:33] Speaker 4: Was hosting a show, but I wasn't there to talk
[21:36] Speaker 4: to Juice, gotcha. So it was like CMC's wedding.
[21:37] Speaker 1: Okay, And so let's hear from Uschek kind of compare
[21:41] Speaker 1: where the forty nine ers are at. This is a
[21:43] Speaker 1: little bit of an NFC West three pack in terms
[21:45] Speaker 1: of Chip watch.
[21:46] Speaker 6: The Seahawks, they won a Super Bowl.
[21:48] Speaker 7: The Rams had a great season, and they've had some
[21:50] Speaker 7: great additions in the offseason, so I can understand why
[21:54] Speaker 7: that is the case. But I think we feel great
[21:57] Speaker 7: about where we're at and I love our squad. I
[21:59] Speaker 7: think that we have only improved. Guys are getting healthy.
[22:04] Speaker 7: You know, we had to Mike Evans and Osa on defense,
[22:06] Speaker 7: which I think both of those guys are just gonna
[22:08] Speaker 7: make such an impact.
[22:10] Speaker 6: And I think we're sitting in a good spot.
[22:13] Speaker 7: Man, if people want to forget about us, that's that's fantastic.
[22:16] Speaker 6: That's a good place to be sometimes.
[22:18] Speaker 4: M Yeah, and I can't because Juice is awesome and
[22:23] Speaker 4: they're perfectly comfortable with that. Like this team comfortable enough
[22:27] Speaker 4: to cancel mini camp. There's so many veterans that they've
[22:29] Speaker 4: been through so much they recognize it. It literally doesn't matter,
[22:34] Speaker 4: Like all the conversation literally does nothing, Like what can
[22:36] Speaker 4: we get on the field, how can we execute? And
[22:39] Speaker 4: if they're healthy, you know, and Kyle's calling and plays
[22:42] Speaker 4: and Brock's doing good and everything's gonna work.
[22:43] Speaker 2: Out, especially in this division.
[22:45] Speaker 1: I think it has worked out pretty well for the
[22:47] Speaker 1: teams that aren't expected to be the teams that year,
[22:49] Speaker 1: including the forty nine ers of twenty twenty five, who
[22:52] Speaker 1: won a lot of games despite losing a lot of
[22:54] Speaker 1: their best players to injury. When everyone was saying going
[22:57] Speaker 1: into the year, oh, this is like a step back
[22:59] Speaker 1: type of year. He knows they're in a good place.
[23:02] Speaker 1: You wouldn't think the Cardinals would be in a good place.
[23:05] Speaker 1: But mac Wilson disagrees. When asked about Miles Garrett coming
[23:11] Speaker 1: too the Rams, he flipped the script.
[23:13] Speaker 3: How do you people the Miles drag? They how to
[23:15] Speaker 3: deal with us at the end of the day, they
[23:17] Speaker 3: got to deal with us.
[23:19] Speaker 1: That's damn right. That's the attitude to have. I don't
[23:24] Speaker 1: even know if that's a chip, that's just reality.
[23:26] Speaker 3: No, yeah, he's being honest.
[23:27] Speaker 4: They do have to play them twice in fact, but
[23:31] Speaker 4: you want to talk about on off like, I don't
[23:32] Speaker 4: have it for this show. But mac Wilson's injury, the
[23:36] Speaker 4: Cardinals were laughable. After mack Wilson got interest down the stretch,
[23:39] Speaker 4: it was it was very bad.
[23:41] Speaker 2: Okay.
[23:42] Speaker 1: Mac Wilson a linebacker with the team. They lost to
[23:45] Speaker 1: the Rams thirty seven to twenty in a game that
[23:49] Speaker 1: I'm not sure Stafford stayed in that whole game, and
[23:51] Speaker 1: yet they went by that much and then forty five
[23:53] Speaker 1: to seventeen, So yeah, they dealt with them fine last year.
[23:57] Speaker 1: Let's listen to a few more sound clips before we
[23:59] Speaker 1: go on our way. Caleb Williams, yes, the Madden cover
[24:05] Speaker 1: man for twenty twenty six, talking about the differences between
[24:09] Speaker 1: year one with Ben Johnson.
[24:11] Speaker 2: In year two.
[24:12] Speaker 8: That's a hell of a lot more fun for me
[24:15] Speaker 8: than it was last year, just because it was you know,
[24:17] Speaker 8: I was sent to coach Coach Stews, Who's like, did
[24:20] Speaker 8: I feel like I was drowning for you know, trying
[24:22] Speaker 8: to breathe or you know, stay alive and wait for
[24:25] Speaker 8: a boat to come around last year. You know, now
[24:28] Speaker 8: this year it's like I said earlier, it's being able
[24:30] Speaker 8: to start where we finished last year, play calls and
[24:34] Speaker 8: words and verbiage and speak the same language.
[24:36] Speaker 1: And I do think it's a huge advantage for Caleb Williams,
[24:40] Speaker 1: specifically in year two of this offense. You could see
[24:43] Speaker 1: that he was swimming certainly in the off season even
[24:47] Speaker 1: to start the year. The fact that he was able
[24:50] Speaker 1: to do that, well, I'm excited, And he said the
[24:55] Speaker 1: completion percentage, that is one of the things that he
[24:57] Speaker 1: is most focused on.
[24:58] Speaker 4: Yeah, you subtract so the thinking and the process from
[25:02] Speaker 4: it and get Caleb in a position where he can
[25:04] Speaker 4: just execute and make plays without having to, as he said,
[25:08] Speaker 4: swim and navigate the waters of digesting and understanding all
[25:11] Speaker 4: of the sky's the limit.
[25:14] Speaker 1: The Buccaneers are team that I believe in, and yet
[25:18] Speaker 1: in the NFC West is so loaded it's almost hard
[25:20] Speaker 1: to see a team from the NFC West not representing
[25:23] Speaker 1: the team in the Super Bowl. But Baker Mayfield was
[25:27] Speaker 1: talking about some of the defensive additions on Tuesday, and
[25:31] Speaker 1: I just I wanted your take on this, he said
[25:34] Speaker 1: about his defense, talking about as Robinson specifically, who's known
[25:39] Speaker 1: for just like getting in a lot of fights at practice,
[25:42] Speaker 1: like with his teammates, also with other teams. He said,
[25:46] Speaker 1: we needed some asxles over there, and he's one of them.
[25:51] Speaker 1: First of all, if you're Ashawn Robinson, would you just
[25:53] Speaker 1: want to be known as an asshole? And do you
[25:55] Speaker 1: believe in the theory that every football team needs some asles?
[26:00] Speaker 3: No, I don't.
[26:01] Speaker 4: I don't think there's generally anything positive that comes from
[26:04] Speaker 4: the introduction of an apple other than, like you know,
[26:07] Speaker 4: the sphincter rolls. And we're being literal because there's a
[26:11] Speaker 4: containment there, but with an actual apple, the containment is broken,
[26:15] Speaker 4: right and people are uncomfortable.
[26:17] Speaker 3: Okay, but what A'shawn Robinson.
[26:19] Speaker 4: Does is put a very very good football player next
[26:22] Speaker 4: to Vita Vea, and you know, the Bucks will be
[26:25] Speaker 4: able to probably not be as poorous as they were
[26:29] Speaker 4: even with Veya in the lineup last year. And Bulls
[26:32] Speaker 4: figures some some things out with the new additions on defense.
[26:35] Speaker 4: Where just got to just gotta keep Baker upright and
[26:38] Speaker 4: healthy seventeen games.
[26:40] Speaker 1: Baker said that Ashawn Robinson's fighting nature is quote stamped
[26:43] Speaker 1: on his forehead.
[26:44] Speaker 2: I don't even know what that means.
[26:45] Speaker 1: This is maybe what is this explaining why Ashawn Robinson,
[26:48] Speaker 1: who's had a very good career, he does tend to
[26:50] Speaker 1: bounce around, whereas his own team maybe is like, okay,
[26:53] Speaker 1: that was enough.
[26:54] Speaker 4: I don't think they care about defensive lineman fighting. What
[26:56] Speaker 4: Baker is making commentary, Ashawn's looked old since he was
[26:59] Speaker 4: like fifteen mm, and so he's got he has a lived,
[27:03] Speaker 4: experienced face.
[27:05] Speaker 1: I think, yeah, throwing a you know, I think you
[27:10] Speaker 1: can't have too many apples in the mix. But someone
[27:12] Speaker 1: who's willing to just you know, spice it up a
[27:15] Speaker 1: little bit. I think it's good for balance. You can't
[27:17] Speaker 1: all you can't all be just a bunch of nice guys.
[27:19] Speaker 1: Add a little mapple to the mix. No, we just
[27:23] Speaker 1: spent an entire off season because A. J. Brown answered questions.
[27:25] Speaker 2: Honestly, he's not that's fair, but I mean justice for the.
[27:34] Speaker 3: Yeah, but that was the Eagles got value in a trade.
[27:37] Speaker 1: So, like you know, I don't know if Eric's gonna
[27:39] Speaker 1: have to beep all that up. I apologize if so.
[27:42] Speaker 1: Dan Campbell definitely a good guy.
[27:45] Speaker 2: He was asked.
[27:46] Speaker 3: I just this.
[27:47] Speaker 1: I just caught my attention in terms of what it
[27:49] Speaker 1: means in terms of, you know, how you live your life.
[27:52] Speaker 1: Let's listen to a question to Dan Campbell about burnout coach.
[27:56] Speaker 3: Who wears his heart on his sleeve.
[27:58] Speaker 5: I'm just curious if there's anything you do during the
[28:00] Speaker 5: season two prevent against burnout or just to.
[28:02] Speaker 4: Alleviate the emotional toll of the most recent season of
[28:05] Speaker 4: the upcoming seasons.
[28:06] Speaker 3: I just burned the ashes and then come back up. Oh.
[28:14] Speaker 2: I don't even know what that means exactly, but I
[28:16] Speaker 2: love it.
[28:16] Speaker 4: It means, projected Dan Campbell to head coach the Arizona Cardinals.
[28:20] Speaker 4: He is going to Phoenix. He's going to rise from
[28:22] Speaker 4: the ashes of being burned out. Just some people are,
[28:27] Speaker 4: you know, love what they do and it's not.
[28:29] Speaker 1: Yeah, he's a good guy and tried to answer the
[28:31] Speaker 1: question honestly after that, and the way he answered it
[28:34] Speaker 1: made me realize, like he's not taking any breaks barely.
[28:38] Speaker 1: He's not worried about burn it burnout. He's just gonna
[28:41] Speaker 1: hit that thing. What do you what do you think
[28:42] Speaker 1: about burnout? We need we need time away. We're going
[28:44] Speaker 1: to be taking some time away from the NFL. We're
[28:46] Speaker 1: keeping the NFL daily feed, going, got some pre tape stuff.
[28:49] Speaker 1: You're gonna host some shows, but I'm heading over to
[28:51] Speaker 1: Japan for a little bit.
[28:52] Speaker 3: Yeah.
[28:52] Speaker 4: Life continues to happen while people go through experiences, experience
[28:57] Speaker 4: things with with with other folks, and some of it's negatives,
[28:59] Speaker 4: some of it's positive.
[29:00] Speaker 3: And you need a break.
[29:03] Speaker 4: There's that lie that if you love what you do,
[29:05] Speaker 4: you never work a day in your life. You're hopefully
[29:08] Speaker 4: being compensated by somebody who is extracting the surplus value
[29:12] Speaker 4: of your labor. You need Tom off, You need Tom
[29:15] Speaker 4: to see and enjoy the beautiful world that we get
[29:18] Speaker 4: to live in with so many beautiful I.
[29:19] Speaker 2: Think you can do both at once.
[29:21] Speaker 1: But I also disagree with the idea that you've never
[29:23] Speaker 1: worked day in your life. You love what you do,
[29:25] Speaker 1: because I love what I do. But no matter how
[29:27] Speaker 1: much you love it, there's times there's aspects to any
[29:31] Speaker 1: job that yeah, you yeah, it's a job, you got
[29:35] Speaker 1: to work at it. We're working at it here. You
[29:37] Speaker 1: know who loves his job and shows it on the
[29:39] Speaker 1: field is Cam Jordan. Cam Jordan is back in the NFL,
[29:44] Speaker 1: longtime NFL media podcast host and guests of this podcast,
[29:51] Speaker 1: is working on a new deal as of this taping.
[29:53] Speaker 1: According to Ian rappaport to return to the Saints. Alvin Kamara,
[29:58] Speaker 1: by the way, is at Saints Mini camp some individual drills,
[30:01] Speaker 1: not with the team, but again it seems like he's
[30:03] Speaker 1: staying on that team. Jordan Tyson, caught my eye, is
[30:07] Speaker 1: still rehabbing his injuries, not going to participate in mini camp,
[30:11] Speaker 1: and Chris o'lobby they're just being extra careful, is only
[30:13] Speaker 1: doing individual drills.
[30:15] Speaker 2: They just don't want to risk anything.
[30:17] Speaker 1: All that combined was just sort of a reminder of
[30:19] Speaker 1: like this is a really high ceiling but low floor
[30:23] Speaker 1: if those two guys got hurt team, but also great
[30:26] Speaker 1: news that they get Cam Jordan back.
[30:28] Speaker 2: It sounds like to their defensive line.
[30:30] Speaker 4: Yeah, and how did you just talk to Chase Young
[30:32] Speaker 4: a couple weeks ago on the Insiders and they want
[30:35] Speaker 4: Cam back. The players want Cam back, you know, even
[30:40] Speaker 4: if he wasn't playing, there's a benefit to having him there.
[30:43] Speaker 4: And so I think it works out great for the
[30:44] Speaker 4: people in New Orleans.
[30:46] Speaker 1: And they need some depth there. It's not a great
[30:48] Speaker 1: defensive edge group in general. And Okam Jordan's getting up there,
[30:53] Speaker 1: but he a lot of sacks last year, so they
[30:55] Speaker 1: could use the help. Look, Jim Harbass spoke in front
[30:59] Speaker 1: of a microphone, which means we're going to have him
[31:01] Speaker 1: saying something. Lad McConkie was out there doing some individual drills,
[31:06] Speaker 1: by the way, but more attention has been paid this
[31:09] Speaker 1: offseason on what Justin Herbert has been doing in terms
[31:14] Speaker 1: of his off season routine. Not throwing the ball at
[31:17] Speaker 1: least as much when the media has been around, But
[31:19] Speaker 1: he was throwing it on Tuesday.
[31:21] Speaker 2: Let's listen to Jim.
[31:22] Speaker 9: Just working harder and smarter, both of those two things.
[31:28] Speaker 9: And you know, it's just some guys you gotta you
[31:30] Speaker 9: gotta say whoa, some guys you gotta say second, you'd
[31:35] Speaker 9: rather have the guys you've got to say whoa and yeah,
[31:39] Speaker 9: justin h throwing you know, mid season form in April,
[31:46] Speaker 9: in May, in June.
[31:49] Speaker 10: Has been the way we've done it. Hundreds of balls,
[31:54] Speaker 10: you know, per practice. So we're gonna try it a
[31:57] Speaker 10: different way this year. We are we are, We have
[32:00] Speaker 10: tried it a different way.
[32:01] Speaker 1: You'd rather have the guys that you have to say whoa. Yeah,
[32:05] Speaker 1: you don't want to say something that on a T shirt.
[32:07] Speaker 1: If if he has to go out there and like, hey,
[32:09] Speaker 1: justin Sickham, he's ripping three hundred balls of practice.
[32:12] Speaker 3: Don't want that?
[32:14] Speaker 2: Like whoa by Black Rob, the Great Black Rob. Yeah.
[32:20] Speaker 1: One of the best yeah banger anthems of the that
[32:25] Speaker 1: late nineties, early.
[32:30] Speaker 3: Like whoa?
[32:30] Speaker 2: What a classic?
[32:32] Speaker 1: Also a classic? Is just one more Jim Harbaugh quote
[32:35] Speaker 1: before we get out of here is that.
[32:42] Speaker 10: Uh no, give me give me a guy, give me
[32:52] Speaker 10: a guy.
[32:54] Speaker 5: Yeah.
[32:55] Speaker 9: Pretty pretty darn healthy team, Yeah, pretty uh pretty pretty good.
[33:03] Speaker 11: My friend Larry David would say, just up there, Yeah,
[33:10] Speaker 11: that just was a delightful little moment, and he was
[33:14] Speaker 11: talking about laudvan Conki in terms of the injuries, but
[33:16] Speaker 11: it sounds like there's nothing too big to be concerned
[33:19] Speaker 11: with their Speaking of injuries, Gabeyakis is a player for
[33:23] Speaker 11: the New England Patriots that was drafted in the second
[33:25] Speaker 11: round who missed really all this offseason sounded after a
[33:28] Speaker 11: knee procedure that was pointed out by Mike Reese.
[33:32] Speaker 1: Also has had a torn laborhm in his shoulder, a
[33:34] Speaker 1: stress fracture in his foot that was during the pre
[33:36] Speaker 1: draft process, and a hamstring kept him out of his
[33:40] Speaker 1: combine and proday. He is the only unsigned second round
[33:43] Speaker 1: pick out there. There's some concern about just where he's at,
[33:48] Speaker 1: what's going on there, So just watch this space when
[33:51] Speaker 1: we get to training camp and probably get more news there.
[33:53] Speaker 1: Harold Fannin is a tight end for the Cleveland Browns
[33:56] Speaker 1: who was outstanding as a rookie who we found out
[33:58] Speaker 1: missed all of the offseason with an undisclosed lower body injury.
[34:02] Speaker 1: But we know we had surgery on a growing that
[34:04] Speaker 1: bothered him at the end of last year, so it
[34:05] Speaker 1: looks like that that was the reason he was out.
[34:07] Speaker 1: Rashi Rice was released from jail on Tuesday. There's an
[34:13] Speaker 1: unfortunate video or funny to but I don't know how
[34:16] Speaker 1: you want to look at it, Like these guys like
[34:19] Speaker 1: taping him as he gets out of jail and he
[34:21] Speaker 1: like runs away from them to jump into the car.
[34:23] Speaker 1: But Rashee Rice is expected to be at training camp.
[34:25] Speaker 1: According to Andy Reid, he might even be at mini
[34:29] Speaker 1: camp later this week. We had mentioned on the show
[34:32] Speaker 1: Jonathan Cooper, the edge for the defensive of the Denver Broncos,
[34:36] Speaker 1: who was arrested for domestic violence charges a week and
[34:40] Speaker 1: a half ago, was arrested again for violating some of
[34:45] Speaker 1: the terms of agreement. Obviously a situation will be monitoring
[34:49] Speaker 1: and that the Broncos are monitoring. And yeah, I'm ending
[34:52] Speaker 1: this show with some down news in terms of that
[34:55] Speaker 1: legal stuff and also the news that Alden Smith died
[34:58] Speaker 1: at the age of thirty six since the last time
[35:01] Speaker 1: we do a news catch up type of show. One
[35:04] Speaker 1: of the most productive edge rushers to start his career
[35:08] Speaker 1: in NFL history full stop, literally the most sacks in
[35:11] Speaker 1: NFL history in his first two seasons, had had trouble
[35:16] Speaker 1: after that with drinking, with a great number of DUI charges.
[35:20] Speaker 2: Some suspensions in the NFL.
[35:21] Speaker 1: Eventually came back and played for the Raiders and the
[35:24] Speaker 1: Cowboys later in his career. But rest in peace to
[35:27] Speaker 1: Aldon Smith.
[35:27] Speaker 4: Yeah, there's the clip of Mike mcclinchy and Trent Williams
[35:30] Speaker 4: talking about the toughest players they've ever played against, and
[35:33] Speaker 4: they both said simultaneously Alden Smith their teammate.
[35:37] Speaker 3: And you know, his friend told.
[35:39] Speaker 4: The San Francisco Chronicle the things he was doing on
[35:42] Speaker 4: his last day on Earth was taking food to houseless people,
[35:46] Speaker 4: and it was just it's sad.
[35:48] Speaker 3: We should have had more Alton Smith.
[35:50] Speaker 1: Yeah, his friend said they found him in the in
[35:52] Speaker 1: the car after outside his house, and so, yeah, rest
[35:56] Speaker 1: in peace. But for those who weren't paying as close
[35:58] Speaker 1: attention just to the football side of it. And Jim
[36:00] Speaker 1: Harbow was asked about him and just said it was
[36:02] Speaker 1: just tragic that he was a great friend and a
[36:05] Speaker 1: great guy to be around. He was the Defensive Rookie
[36:09] Speaker 1: the Year runner up with fourteen sacks. I mean, that's
[36:12] Speaker 1: a loaded year for Defensive Rookie of the Year When
[36:15] Speaker 1: fourteen sacks can't get you Rookie the Year, But can
[36:18] Speaker 1: you guess who got it with less sacks, but in
[36:21] Speaker 1: all time ed rusher in the twenty eleven draft class.
[36:25] Speaker 3: Yeah, that's JJ. No, No, it wasn't j J.
[36:28] Speaker 1: That's the next year I think, or wait, JJ's in
[36:30] Speaker 1: that draft class, but he didn't get that many secks.
[36:32] Speaker 4: It was von Miller. Oh what Yeah, Cam was in
[36:35] Speaker 4: that class. Walials in that class is crazy class.
[36:37] Speaker 2: It's a crazy class.
[36:38] Speaker 1: So von Miller gets the rookie year and then the
[36:39] Speaker 1: next year after that, Aldon Smith goes nineteen and a
[36:42] Speaker 1: half sex and in a loaded time for ed rushers
[36:45] Speaker 1: in the NFL, was the first team All Pro selection.
[36:49] Speaker 1: And yeah, obviously went through some struggles, but that season
[36:53] Speaker 1: that he had with the Cowboys where he came back
[36:55] Speaker 1: and played every game was kind of a nicer coda
[36:58] Speaker 1: to his career. But out with a lot to rest
[37:01] Speaker 1: in peace to Alden Smith. We'll get you out of here. Patrick,
[37:03] Speaker 1: You've got to go host The Insiders. You're talking to
[37:06] Speaker 1: Quinton Johnston for Tuesday show. So everyone checked that out
[37:09] Speaker 1: on NFL Network. But before I let you go, I
[37:14] Speaker 1: just want to know how was the World Cup? You
[37:16] Speaker 1: were at an exciting Yeah, back and forth too, two
[37:20] Speaker 1: banger between Iran and New Zealand.
[37:23] Speaker 4: Yeah, I have a lot of instant Iranian friends in
[37:27] Speaker 4: our section.
[37:28] Speaker 3: Malcolm was very passionately cheering for Iran.
[37:32] Speaker 4: It was great to just just because yeah, well the
[37:35] Speaker 4: guy next to me is like, ask you a question,
[37:37] Speaker 4: why are you guys such big fans of Iran?
[37:39] Speaker 3: And I'm like, somebody, somebody's got to be you know,
[37:42] Speaker 3: this is underdogs.
[37:44] Speaker 4: Yeah, the circumstances are heavily against this group of guys,
[37:48] Speaker 4: and so, you know, in honor of them, in honor
[37:50] Speaker 4: of the number of children killed in the school attack.
[37:54] Speaker 1: You know, what was the atmosphere and just your experience,
[37:59] Speaker 1: like compare to other sporty events you've attended in your life.
[38:02] Speaker 4: Well, the two things I've gone to it so far.
[38:04] Speaker 4: We're a super Bowl in a World Cup game. Huge
[38:07] Speaker 4: advocate for both.
[38:08] Speaker 3: Of those things.
[38:08] Speaker 4: If you can get into either one of those things,
[38:10] Speaker 4: they're pretty good. But it was electric, you know, people
[38:15] Speaker 4: getting to see and understand how beautiful, you know, the
[38:17] Speaker 4: city that's adopted me can be.
[38:20] Speaker 1: It was great And that game specifically was great because
[38:24] Speaker 1: it it felt like two teams that were just going
[38:26] Speaker 1: for broke the whole time. It almost felt like a
[38:27] Speaker 1: junior not a junior soccer. I just mean there was
[38:30] Speaker 1: a lot going on. It was very chaotic. There's a
[38:32] Speaker 1: million chances, there are lots of mistakes, there's goal It
[38:35] Speaker 1: just that that was one of, if not my favorite
[38:38] Speaker 1: games I've watched so far. So you were there for
[38:40] Speaker 1: a banger.
[38:40] Speaker 4: Yeah, I'd put it up there with the Netherlands in
[38:43] Speaker 4: Japan in terms of life.
[38:45] Speaker 3: Good soccer games, back.
[38:46] Speaker 2: And forth, four goals in the second half of that one.
[38:49] Speaker 1: Yeah, one of my friends go into the last Japan
[38:53] Speaker 1: game in the group stage in Dallas. Japan is Jerry
[38:57] Speaker 1: World's team this month. A couple of games there. All right,
[39:00] Speaker 1: let's get Patrick out of here. Let's get out of
[39:01] Speaker 1: here as well. It's a busy week. We're going to
[39:04] Speaker 1: be back on the program, wrapping up all the mini
[39:08] Speaker 1: camp season. We're doing it winners and losers style. If
[39:11] Speaker 1: you've missed anything over the last couple of months. Myself
[39:13] Speaker 1: and Evan Silva, who fantasy goats on the show.
[39:18] Speaker 2: We'll see you that.
[39:19] Speaker 3: He's
