[0:00] Speaker 1: Welcome to NFL Daily, where we love our producer giving
[0:16] Speaker 1: us a little surprise with some music off the top
[0:19] Speaker 1: of the show and where we're ready. to hand out
[0:24] Speaker 1: the hardware that will be handed out in Los Angeles
[0:28] Speaker 1: at NFL Honors this February. Learn the winners here first. Also,
[0:34] Speaker 1: learn who myself and Jordan Rodrigue will be interviewing on
[0:38] Speaker 1: the field after this Super Bowl as the Super Bowl champions.
[0:44] Speaker 1: And our friend Patrick Claiborne is here as well.
[0:48] Speaker 2: Glad to be back.
[0:50] Speaker 1: It was too long? And yet it feels so right.
[0:54] Speaker 3: Well, it would have felt wrong to have a bad
[0:58] Speaker 3: performance on my most recent NFL Daily show.
[1:01] Speaker 1: What was that?
[1:02] Speaker 2: It was just bad. It wasn't good. I appreciate you
[1:04] Speaker 2: casting me up.
[1:04] Speaker 4: You never have a bad.
[1:06] Speaker 2: Come on.
[1:06] Speaker 3: It was a bad one, but it's not going to
[1:08] Speaker 3: be today because I'm back here with you guys and
[1:09] Speaker 3: I'm glad for you.
[1:10] Speaker 1: No, and you've contributed so much already as we were
[1:13] Speaker 1: taping or getting ready to tape. Patrick and I came
[1:16] Speaker 1: up with a scoring system. Which we're going to illuminate
[1:20] Speaker 1: halfway through the show.
[1:21] Speaker 2: It doesn't sound like we excluded Jordan in that.
[1:23] Speaker 1: No, no. She just didn't want a part of it.
[1:25] Speaker 4: Willingly zoned out.
[1:26] Speaker 1: Willingly zoned out. So what we're going to do here,
[1:28] Speaker 1: we're going to put our chips on the table. We're
[1:32] Speaker 1: less than a week out from NFL kickoff. We've gotten
[1:36] Speaker 1: to the end of this off-season road. And we're going
[1:41] Speaker 1: to pick all the award winners, all the division winners,
[1:44] Speaker 1: all the wild card winners, the Super Bowl winner in one...
[1:48] Speaker 1: big show and it's with the OG crew that we
[1:52] Speaker 1: started NFL Daily with on a show where we gave
[1:56] Speaker 1: our reasons for joy. My reason for joy is just
[1:58] Speaker 1: being with you two for this program.
[2:00] Speaker 4: Third season, guys.
[2:02] Speaker 1: Third actual season is coming up and what we do
[2:06] Speaker 1: at NFL Daily is we don't warm up to the
[2:08] Speaker 1: big stuff. We start right at MVP.
[2:11] Speaker 4: Oh my.
[2:12] Speaker 1: And we're going to finish the show with our Super
[2:15] Speaker 1: Bowl winner. So you start big and you end big.
[2:19] Speaker 1: Like a great TV show. MVP. And now that there's
[2:23] Speaker 1: stakes involved, I started to rethink some of my picks.
[2:26] Speaker 1: I should play it a little safer, but I'm not
[2:30] Speaker 1: going to do that. But I am going to let
[2:32] Speaker 1: you go first, Patrick, since we haven't had you in
[2:33] Speaker 1: a minute. Okay.
[2:35] Speaker 2: This is not a safe pick at all.
[2:37] Speaker 3: But the 2026 MVP for me is Rain Dakota Prescott.
[2:41] Speaker 3: As he utilizes, which was a big part of the conversation,
[2:45] Speaker 3: the lifetime achievement aspect that I think helped Matthew Stafford
[2:50] Speaker 3: down the stretch.
[2:51] Speaker 2: I think it helps.
[2:52] Speaker 3: Dak Prescott, as a lot of people have come to
[2:55] Speaker 3: eventually realize, hey, this guy's pretty good at football. Maybe
[2:58] Speaker 3: we should reevaluate how we feel about him.
[3:01] Speaker 4: I love this because, I mean, I know we as
[3:05] Speaker 4: a collective, as the media, we are all going to
[3:08] Speaker 4: be talking about Dak Prescott and the Dallas Cowboys like
[3:11] Speaker 4: quite a lot over the course of this season. But
[3:13] Speaker 4: I think he can actually be one of the favorites
[3:16] Speaker 4: in this competition. And I think it will start pretty soon.
[3:20] Speaker 4: immediately in the discussion about this because I do believe
[3:23] Speaker 4: this offense will hit the ground literally running and passing.
[3:27] Speaker 4: And I just think I love this too because he's
[3:30] Speaker 4: a different name, you know? And I know you think Dak,
[3:33] Speaker 4: we think the Cowboys. It's like, well, we always talk
[3:35] Speaker 4: about Dak and the Cowboys. But in terms of this conversation,
[3:38] Speaker 4: he is a new name.
[3:39] Speaker 1: He did come in second. A few years ago, but
[3:41] Speaker 1: he was never really in the mix there. That was
[3:44] Speaker 1: the year where Purdy kind of fell out of the mix.
[3:46] Speaker 1: He had a great year. I love it. I will
[3:48] Speaker 1: be informing the listeners of just kind of like who
[3:52] Speaker 1: are the favorites going into the season. Now, I see
[3:53] Speaker 1: Dak Prescott as the seventh or eighth favorite, but honestly,
[3:56] Speaker 1: there's not a huge gap after Josh Allen to the
[3:59] Speaker 1: rest of the group. He's kind of in that strong
[4:02] Speaker 1: second group. And it really is setting up year two
[4:06] Speaker 1: offensive line weapons, everything that he's had come before leading
[4:11] Speaker 1: to this, where he's still got his physical skills and
[4:13] Speaker 1: everything good around him. I love that pick. All right.
[4:15] Speaker 1: Your MVP.
[4:16] Speaker 4: Mine is an absolute dark horse here. I wouldn't even,
[4:19] Speaker 4: I would even be surprised. I don't know. I don't
[4:21] Speaker 4: speak gambling, so I don't really know what the odds
[4:23] Speaker 4: even would be for this, but I certainly probably very,
[4:26] Speaker 4: very small, but I think people are really underestimating where
[4:30] Speaker 4: this guy's at in his career right now. the weapons
[4:33] Speaker 4: around him.
[4:33] Speaker 1: Can I guess before you say it?
[4:35] Speaker 4: No, you may not. It's Jordan Love, baby.
[4:37] Speaker 1: I knew it.
[4:38] Speaker 4: I knew it. I'm going with a very different pick.
[4:40] Speaker 4: It's not that I.
[4:44] Speaker 1: Oh, no!
[4:46] Speaker 2: Jordan Love!
[4:47] Speaker 1: What the f * * *?
[4:49] Speaker 2: This time so perfectly.
[4:50] Speaker 4: That was amazing.
[4:52] Speaker 2: Greg and Eric are simpatico right now.
[4:55] Speaker 4: I just think, you know, I... is he going to
[4:58] Speaker 4: be the favorite? Probably not. And until we actually see
[5:01] Speaker 4: real football being played, you know, we'll see, but Tucker
[5:04] Speaker 4: craft being back, Matthew golden, ready and poised to emerge
[5:06] Speaker 4: the way that he is, you know, the way that
[5:09] Speaker 4: he can play and throw the ball. And the fact
[5:11] Speaker 4: that he's going to be throwing more this year to
[5:13] Speaker 4: my assumption, because their run game is very much a
[5:16] Speaker 4: big question mark. I just think Jordan love has, he's
[5:19] Speaker 4: put it all together. And I think he's, he's got
[5:22] Speaker 4: the ability to be so steady through the course of
[5:25] Speaker 4: a season. I think this is going to be a
[5:27] Speaker 4: really fun season for him, and I think he's going
[5:29] Speaker 4: to be in the conversation.
[5:30] Speaker 1: I think it makes a lot of sense. I think
[5:31] Speaker 1: he is sort of the younger version of Dak where
[5:34] Speaker 1: it's been building to this moment. I think a lot
[5:36] Speaker 1: of things are set up for him, and I do think, oh,
[5:39] Speaker 1: they have less receivers, and maybe there's a little less
[5:41] Speaker 1: around him in terms of the running game. There's a
[5:43] Speaker 1: little less expectations. That actually would help him narratively for
[5:47] Speaker 1: the voters of this award. Which? Which I am one now.
[5:50] Speaker 1: A little commotion.
[5:52] Speaker 2: I can.
[5:53] Speaker 1: Yes. Put my thumb on the scale to try to
[5:55] Speaker 1: win it. No, I would never do that. Please don't
[5:58] Speaker 1: take it away from me.
[6:02] Speaker 4: Go ahead, Greg.
[6:03] Speaker 1: Tell us.
[6:03] Speaker 2: Who is it, Greg? Who wins the NBA?
[6:05] Speaker 1: Well, I'm struggling because I picked Patrick Mahomes on NFL.com
[6:11] Speaker 1: and yet I had an advantage. I filed it late.
[6:16] Speaker 1: I didn't like that no one had picked Patrick Mahomes.
[6:18] Speaker 1: In my heart, who do I think is the most
[6:20] Speaker 1: likely person to win MVP? He would be a very
[6:23] Speaker 1: close second to your man, Lamar Jackson. Am I influenced
[6:28] Speaker 1: by the fact that you said MVP is going to
[6:30] Speaker 1: be worth two points in our scoring system? Double? Maybe
[6:33] Speaker 1: a little bit. Will I be regretting this hard if
[6:35] Speaker 1: it is Patrick Mahomes? A lot. I just think the
[6:40] Speaker 1: way that he has come into this season, sounding fresh,
[6:45] Speaker 1: sounding that he's ready to run the ball more with
[6:48] Speaker 1: a new offensive coordinator where he's done so well when
[6:51] Speaker 1: he's started new systems in the past that he has
[6:56] Speaker 1: more around him maybe than Patrick Mahomes does in terms
[7:00] Speaker 1: of getting help. Patrick Mahomes gets helped, I believe, narratively
[7:03] Speaker 1: coming off the injury. And Patrick Mahomes and Lamar Jackson
[7:06] Speaker 1: are both about to have like remind me, remind everyone
[7:12] Speaker 1: who the they are season. But I think Lamar's numbers
[7:17] Speaker 1: will just be a little bit better in the end.
[7:19] Speaker 4: And I'm going, I like it.
[7:22] Speaker 3: I think the numbers are where he gets hurt in
[7:25] Speaker 3: terms of having to do so much as a, as
[7:29] Speaker 3: a part of those previous MVPC, just maybe not to
[7:32] Speaker 3: 2024 when they were just a death machine running down
[7:35] Speaker 3: the field, 26 yards per.
[7:37] Speaker 2: Play, all that crazy stuff.
[7:39] Speaker 3: Uh, where I just felt like the Cowboys would have
[7:43] Speaker 3: the numerical advantage, uh, with, with Dak and CD and
[7:46] Speaker 3: going up and down the field where I would have
[7:48] Speaker 3: loved to make the Homer pick, but, Also, the story,
[7:51] Speaker 3: the Patrick Mahomes story, where it's like only Greg Rosenthal
[7:54] Speaker 3: believed on me on NFL.com.
[7:56] Speaker 1: You know what, though? I'm changing it. We're allowed to
[7:59] Speaker 1: change our answers as long as we haven't moved on
[8:02] Speaker 1: with the award. I immediately regretted taking Lamar because I
[8:04] Speaker 1: hate the idea of putting two things in two places.
[8:08] Speaker 1: You got to be consistent in life. It's too late.
[8:10] Speaker 1: It's in digital pen. I won't feel bad if Lamar wins.
[8:15] Speaker 1: I think he comes in second. It is Patrick Mahomes.
[8:17] Speaker 1: I feel that better.
[8:18] Speaker 4: What?
[8:19] Speaker 1: I want that to be.
[8:21] Speaker 2: Sorry. Don't apologize.
[8:23] Speaker 1: What a stupid award this is, by the way. I
[8:25] Speaker 1: looked at the odds. It's hilarious how much of a
[8:26] Speaker 1: quarterback award it is. It's, you know, the top 20
[8:29] Speaker 1: something favorites are all quarterbacks. You get Tyler Shuck and
[8:35] Speaker 1: Jackson Dart as likely to win the MVP before you
[8:40] Speaker 1: get to the first non-quarterback with his Bajon Robinson. Speed round.
[8:45] Speaker 1: Long shot to win quarterback you kind of I mean
[8:49] Speaker 1: MVP you I kind of I kind of had one
[8:52] Speaker 1: with love he was about 14th which that's a pretty
[8:54] Speaker 1: big long shot I'd go Purdy if I had one
[8:56] Speaker 1: Trev Trevor is a good one That's a long shot. Yeah,
[9:00] Speaker 1: Purdy was in the mix before. He's so responsible, and
[9:04] Speaker 1: I think you get the numbers. All right, let's go
[9:05] Speaker 1: offensive player of the year. Let's switch up the order
[9:08] Speaker 1: so there's no advantage here. Let's start with Jordan.
[9:10] Speaker 4: I'm picking Jameer Gibbs because not only do I think
[9:13] Speaker 4: he's going to get the ball a lot in the
[9:15] Speaker 4: run and the pass game, so his scrimmage yards, I think,
[9:17] Speaker 4: are going to be really, really fun to watch. But
[9:19] Speaker 4: I also like the idea of him with Jared Goff,
[9:23] Speaker 4: with Drew Petzing in the featured role with the explosive
[9:26] Speaker 4: playmaking ability that he specifically has. I think that turns
[9:29] Speaker 4: voters heads. I think that is something that voters really watch.
[9:32] Speaker 4: And I think the Detroit lions are going to be
[9:33] Speaker 4: in the mix deep into the season and, and early
[9:36] Speaker 4: into the post season too. So all of these things
[9:38] Speaker 4: bode well for Jameer Gibbs. I had fun going back
[9:42] Speaker 4: historically and looking at pro football reference at the times
[9:45] Speaker 4: a quarterback won it too. So like Cam Newton used.
[9:48] Speaker 1: To happen more often. And now I think they've gotten
[9:50] Speaker 1: smarter and they just made it best non-quarter.
[9:53] Speaker 4: It was super interesting because it was like Cam Newton.
[9:56] Speaker 4: I believe that was 15. Cam Newton won MVP and OPOY.
[9:59] Speaker 1: And then.
[10:00] Speaker 4: Matt Ryan won it the second year, won both the
[10:02] Speaker 4: second year too, which I don't know that Matt Ryan
[10:05] Speaker 4: was running for a lot of touchdowns, but I digress.
[10:07] Speaker 1: There were some years where the best quarterback won MVP
[10:11] Speaker 1: and the second best quarterback won offensive player of the year.
[10:13] Speaker 1: I don't I've never liked this award. I used to
[10:15] Speaker 1: refuse to vote on it on NFL dot com out
[10:18] Speaker 1: of good conscience. But then I thought that's kind of
[10:20] Speaker 1: a look at me thing to do. But now I
[10:23] Speaker 1: feel like the voters have just accepted its best non quarterback.
[10:27] Speaker 1: So we should just call it that. Yeah, let's make
[10:30] Speaker 1: it best quarterback award slash MVP. Or we just get.
[10:35] Speaker 2: Rid of the MVP nomenclature altogether.
[10:38] Speaker 1: I like that.
[10:39] Speaker 4: Yeah, Grozenthal, year one as a voter, shaking up the
[10:41] Speaker 4: system a little bit.
[10:42] Speaker 2: Well, he's earned that right. And now he wants to
[10:45] Speaker 2: make it a look at the situation.
[10:46] Speaker 1: I'm just so happy.
[10:47] Speaker 4: When I found out, I was so happy. I yelled,
[10:49] Speaker 4: I sent you a rap air horn, voice memo. I
[10:54] Speaker 4: was really excited.
[10:55] Speaker 1: I've been excited. My family has been hearing the updates
[10:57] Speaker 1: throughout the course.
[10:58] Speaker 2: Of the year.
[10:58] Speaker 3: I'm excited and also excited. very retroactively angry that it
[11:02] Speaker 3: took so long. And so like, that's what I'll be.
[11:06] Speaker 1: Quickie wheel gets the grease. It all worked out. Um,
[11:09] Speaker 1: you're offensive player of the year.
[11:10] Speaker 2: Yeah. Very boring. I also have Jameer Gibbs.
[11:12] Speaker 1: Don't change the answer. Someone else has it. No.
[11:14] Speaker 3: And, and honestly, the, I would be concerned about Drew Petzing,
[11:18] Speaker 3: but we have, we have, we have, Evidence, right? That
[11:22] Speaker 3: if things do go wrong, Dan Campbell will grab the
[11:24] Speaker 3: clipboard and the headset, which he's already wearing anyway, and
[11:27] Speaker 3: just do it himself. And I still believe in the offense,
[11:30] Speaker 3: regardless of that. If the run game doesn't work, Jameer
[11:33] Speaker 3: Gibbs is going to be a large volume of the
[11:35] Speaker 3: passing game. And it's just like the accumulation of numbers
[11:38] Speaker 3: for such an explosive player gets you Offensive Player.
[11:41] Speaker 2: Of the Year. And should get you MVP votes, but
[11:44] Speaker 2: that's a quarterback award.
[11:47] Speaker 1: I would like to see a situation like Like J.J.
[11:50] Speaker 1: Watt's defensive season in 2014 where they could win the
[11:53] Speaker 1: MVP where different positions could win it. We haven't seen
[11:56] Speaker 1: that really.
[11:56] Speaker 4: Be the change.
[11:58] Speaker 1: Happen in a while. Jameer Gibbs is the favorite to
[12:00] Speaker 1: win Offensive Player of the Year by a decent margin,
[12:02] Speaker 1: but still, and I know you don't understand how odds work,
[12:04] Speaker 1: you know, still, it's like five to one, so it's
[12:07] Speaker 1: not like it's viewed as likely. Bajon Robinson's next, Jamar Chase,
[12:11] Speaker 1: Hukun Akua, Christian McCaffrey. I'm going with the next name
[12:14] Speaker 1: on the board, who I guess would be the sixth favorite,
[12:16] Speaker 1: and that's Justin Jefferson, for very similar reasons to Patrick
[12:19] Speaker 1: Mahomes at MVP. Just a season for him to remind
[12:23] Speaker 1: everyone who the bleep they were. See, I just wanted
[12:26] Speaker 1: to save... Eric, the trouble. I just think he's the best.
[12:32] Speaker 4: The genuinely kind and earnest, I know you don't understand
[12:35] Speaker 4: how odds work, face that you face.
[12:37] Speaker 2: He put his hand up, too.
[12:38] Speaker 1: It's not that hard. I don't care.
[12:40] Speaker 4: I don't want to know.
[12:41] Speaker 1: It's kind of like my offensive player of the year non-vote.
[12:44] Speaker 1: It's a little look at me. You could spend five
[12:46] Speaker 1: minutes once. You're one of the smartest people I know.
[12:50] Speaker 1: You could figure it out. You and our friend Adam
[12:52] Speaker 1: on the Saints Black Party Party, they're always like, I
[12:54] Speaker 1: don't understand. How does it work? Plus three, four? You know,
[12:56] Speaker 1: it's like you could... You could do it if you
[12:58] Speaker 1: wanted to.
[12:59] Speaker 4: The will is not there.
[13:00] Speaker 2: No, it's not.
[13:01] Speaker 1: Speaking of which, my defensive player of the year is
[13:03] Speaker 1: Will Anderson.
[13:04] Speaker 4: Oh, okay. Well, that's who I picked, too.
[13:06] Speaker 1: What a transition.
[13:07] Speaker 2: Wait, did we all pick Will Anderson Jr.
[13:09] Speaker 4: Yes, but I have dibs.
[13:12] Speaker 1: We all picked him. I don't want us to change
[13:14] Speaker 1: our minds just because the other person had him.
[13:15] Speaker 4: No, I mean, I think he is a rightful pick.
[13:18] Speaker 4: I think he would be the best pick here. I mean,
[13:20] Speaker 4: he's incredible. He is one of the best players in
[13:25] Speaker 4: football right now. And he has a case to be
[13:29] Speaker 4: the best defensive player in football this year. So yes, absolutely.
[13:34] Speaker 1: Look, there's a million great defensive players. Obviously, Myles Garrett
[13:38] Speaker 1: could get a lot of attention. Pass rushers tend to
[13:41] Speaker 1: win this award. So, you know, does Nick Benito or
[13:45] Speaker 1: Aiden Hutchinson or Daniel Hunter get in the mix? But
[13:49] Speaker 1: I kind of did it thinking about you know, when
[13:51] Speaker 1: we get to the team projections. We all are very
[13:53] Speaker 1: high on the Texans' defense, and sometimes you award the
[13:56] Speaker 1: best player on that defense. Will Anderson is the second
[13:59] Speaker 1: favorite for this award, and so I guess we were
[14:01] Speaker 1: all parking in the same EV-charging parking spot here.
[14:07] Speaker 4: I have a cool Will Anderson story from when I was.
[14:09] Speaker 1: I just plugged in at work for the first time ever.
[14:11] Speaker 2: There he is.
[14:12] Speaker 4: Congrats. Congrats. I have a cool Will Anderson junior story
[14:17] Speaker 4: from when I was at Texans' camp this summer. Basically...
[14:21] Speaker 4: there's this saying that permeates through the building that is
[14:24] Speaker 4: practice will go how will Anderson wants practice to go.
[14:27] Speaker 4: And so if he comes into the, onto the field,
[14:31] Speaker 4: even in the walkthrough and says, I'm, you know, I
[14:33] Speaker 4: have the capability of just like destroying this walkthrough or
[14:36] Speaker 4: this practice. That is how the practice will go. His
[14:39] Speaker 4: tone that he sets, his ability to even like let
[14:43] Speaker 4: up so that other people can get quality reps in
[14:47] Speaker 4: is it's very, again, players that are of this elite
[14:50] Speaker 4: status where they're, They don't want to give him veteran
[14:53] Speaker 4: rest days, and he probably wouldn't take them anyway. But
[14:56] Speaker 4: it is one of those things where he has the
[14:58] Speaker 4: capability to absolutely wreck down-to-down any play that you throw
[15:02] Speaker 4: at him.
[15:03] Speaker 1: Yeah, they're like, can you give Verante Arceri a break here?
[15:05] Speaker 1: We don't want to kill his confidence. Protector of the
[15:08] Speaker 1: Year is such a legit award that there are odds
[15:12] Speaker 1: on it, and we're picking it. Patrick.
[15:16] Speaker 3: And I am picking Dion Dawkins for another season. A sixth,
[15:20] Speaker 3: I believe, Pro Bowl. that he would earn this season
[15:24] Speaker 3: in one of those kind of career cherries on the
[15:26] Speaker 3: top where we can start maybe this march towards Canton
[15:29] Speaker 3: by getting him the protector of the year.
[15:32] Speaker 1: It feels like the groundswell would have to be really
[15:35] Speaker 1: loud because I do feel like these are awards that
[15:38] Speaker 1: are maybe almost awarded a year or too late, and
[15:40] Speaker 1: he's not thought of quite at the tippy top. I
[15:43] Speaker 1: went to a predictable name, which is Tristan Wirfs, just
[15:46] Speaker 1: the guy who can do everything, and I think if
[15:50] Speaker 1: he plays his best, is probably top two, three minimum
[15:54] Speaker 1: at his position.
[15:55] Speaker 4: I went to a very unpredictable name who, narratively speaking,
[15:59] Speaker 4: could receive said groundswell that we're talking about. If this
[16:04] Speaker 4: offensive line improves the way that this team hopes it improves,
[16:08] Speaker 4: and if this team is as elite as this group
[16:11] Speaker 4: thinks that it will be and hopes that it will be,
[16:14] Speaker 4: The narrative will fully be behind this very young player
[16:19] Speaker 4: as the person who the front office believes is the catalyst.
[16:21] Speaker 1: What a setup. I almost want to stop the podcast
[16:24] Speaker 1: right now, tease it, and take a break. But I'm
[16:26] Speaker 1: not going to do that. Let's hear it.
[16:27] Speaker 4: Keelan Rutledge, the rookie.
[16:30] Speaker 1: Whoa!
[16:30] Speaker 4: Guard, but potentially will be playing center for the Houston
[16:34] Speaker 4: Texans this year. And the reason why, first of all,
[16:36] Speaker 4: that dude's a dude, right? Like, he really gets in
[16:40] Speaker 4: the mix. He doesn't care against two. He was scrapping
[16:43] Speaker 4: with Max Crosby at, joint practices, all of those players,
[16:47] Speaker 4: including that incredibly elite defensive line is really, really impressed
[16:52] Speaker 4: with him, how he showed up so far. If he
[16:55] Speaker 4: helps turn this offensive line around narratively speaking, I think
[16:59] Speaker 4: he's got a real case because he is the catalyst point.
[17:01] Speaker 4: The front office has already stated their intent on that.
[17:05] Speaker 4: Nick Casario called him the best offensive lineman they have.
[17:08] Speaker 4: Like he's really, really dang good. And if he he'll
[17:11] Speaker 4: have bumps, rookies, rookies do they do, but he will
[17:14] Speaker 4: be representative of this team that the eyesore where it
[17:19] Speaker 4: was last year really needed to improve. If it does improve,
[17:22] Speaker 4: he will be the figurehead of that.
[17:23] Speaker 1: He would be the greatest, you know, one of the greatest,
[17:26] Speaker 1: Offensive lineman, rookie seasons of all time, if that happens.
[17:29] Speaker 4: Yeah.
[17:30] Speaker 1: Bold. I like bold.
[17:31] Speaker 4: Well, you know, I'm trying to go outside the box.
[17:33] Speaker 1: I like it here. I like it.
[17:34] Speaker 4: I'm not really clear on the point system.
[17:37] Speaker 1: You know, you get a point if you are right.
[17:40] Speaker 1: You don't get any if you don't, if you're not. Okay.
[17:42] Speaker 1: I'll go Jadarian Price as my offensive rookie of the year.
[17:46] Speaker 1: I'm not going to change it to Mendoza now that
[17:49] Speaker 1: there's a point system. Although, just likelihood, you know, if he...
[17:53] Speaker 1: gets in there by week four or five, like he
[17:56] Speaker 1: has a strong chance just because I think he's very
[17:58] Speaker 1: good at football and he plays quarterback. But we're going
[18:02] Speaker 1: to talk about the kickoff game on our next show
[18:05] Speaker 1: going up on Monday. You know, I think Jadarian Price
[18:08] Speaker 1: is going to be one of the key offensive engines
[18:09] Speaker 1: of one of the best teams in the NFL. It's
[18:13] Speaker 1: not like the deepest group of offensive rookies of the year.
[18:17] Speaker 1: And so I think he has a really strong chance
[18:19] Speaker 1: if he gets 250 touches on that team to win it. Well,
[18:22] Speaker 1: who do you got, Patrick?
[18:23] Speaker 2: I've got Dijon Stripling. Nice.
[18:25] Speaker 1: I like that.
[18:26] Speaker 3: Mainly because I was him and Hong with Jadarian Price,
[18:30] Speaker 3: and I know Jadarian Price will have the opportunity early on,
[18:34] Speaker 3: but to play an entire NFL season as the starter
[18:38] Speaker 3: at running back, I think maybe that's going to be
[18:41] Speaker 3: something difficult to get to the finish and get that
[18:44] Speaker 3: vote at the end.
[18:44] Speaker 2: But a wide receiver, especially in this offense, if he's... If.
[18:49] Speaker 3: Kyle and company feel good about him now and opportunities,
[18:52] Speaker 3: then at the end of the season, he'll be right
[18:54] Speaker 3: where he needs to be.
[18:54] Speaker 2: To get it.
[18:55] Speaker 1: Where I'm viewing him. He's the fifth favorite plus a thousand.
[18:58] Speaker 1: That's not a bad one. The favorite by little is
[19:00] Speaker 1: Jeremiah Love. Despite the injury, he might play still week one.
[19:03] Speaker 1: Shout out to the Cardinals, by the way, for getting
[19:05] Speaker 1: their Michael Wilson contract done on Thursday. I think that's
[19:08] Speaker 1: going to age really well for a good young player.
[19:11] Speaker 1: Carnell Tate is the second favorite. Mendoza's tied with him.
[19:15] Speaker 1: Price is right there. Basically, it's a big four. And
[19:18] Speaker 1: then it's Dijon's dribbling. Quarterbacks are so likely to win
[19:20] Speaker 1: this award that Carson Beck and Jack Strand are in
[19:24] Speaker 1: the top.
[19:25] Speaker 4: Jack Strand.
[19:26] Speaker 1: 12 options here at offensive rookie of the year. Jack Strand.
[19:30] Speaker 4: Just continues to just.
[19:32] Speaker 3: The odds makers saw the Falcons second preseason game and
[19:35] Speaker 3: were like, that's it.
[19:36] Speaker 4: Jack Strand just continues to elicit these responses from us.
[19:40] Speaker 1: From Minnesota Moorhead. It would be crazy if he was
[19:44] Speaker 1: good as a rookie, but I do think we are
[19:46] Speaker 1: now living in one of the multiverses. I don't know
[19:50] Speaker 1: which one, but let's say there's... The bad one. Let's
[19:53] Speaker 1: say there's 20 of them. Let's say there's 10 of them.
[19:57] Speaker 1: 10 of who? 10 multiverses. Oh, okay.
[19:59] Speaker 2: Universes. In the multiverse.
[20:01] Speaker 1: Oh, that's good. I don't know how this works.
[20:05] Speaker 4: If you just put the effort in, you're like the
[20:07] Speaker 4: smartest guy I know. If you just put a little
[20:09] Speaker 4: effort in.
[20:09] Speaker 1: What's the Hot Dog Fingers movie? That's all I know. Everything, everywhere,
[20:12] Speaker 1: all at once. In three of those, you know, universes,
[20:18] Speaker 1: like Jack Strand starts at least five games this year.
[20:22] Speaker 1: You know, I think there's like a pretty decent chance
[20:25] Speaker 1: that we see a lot of Jack Strand. Way more
[20:27] Speaker 1: than I was expecting. Things would have to go pretty
[20:29] Speaker 1: wrong for the Falcons, but. That's very possible. All right. Quickly, Jordan.
[20:35] Speaker 3: Okay.
[20:35] Speaker 1: I like that. Uh, defensive rookie. Why don't we start
[20:37] Speaker 1: with you then? Um, I liked crazy how deep this is.
[20:40] Speaker 2: Actually.
[20:40] Speaker 1: I want to read off just some options. Just want
[20:43] Speaker 1: to list the top favorites in order. Reuben Bain, pass
[20:46] Speaker 1: rusher for the Bucs. Wow, what a great option he
[20:48] Speaker 1: would be. David Bailey, pass rusher for the Jets. Caleb Downs,
[20:53] Speaker 1: I think would be the favorite in many years. Safety
[20:55] Speaker 1: for the Cowboys. Sonny Stiles has had a quiet camp.
[20:58] Speaker 1: He's starting for the Commanders, can rack up numbers. Arvel Reese,
[21:01] Speaker 1: another top pick for the Giants. Mansour Delane could be...
[21:05] Speaker 1: The version of Keelan Rutledge you're talking about, like help
[21:08] Speaker 1: turn around that defense at cornerback for the Chiefs. Akeem Mesidor,
[21:11] Speaker 1: great camp for the Chargers. Jacob Rodriguez is going to
[21:13] Speaker 1: be starting at linebacker for the Dolphins. That was about
[21:16] Speaker 1: eight names, which I think, no offense to last year's class,
[21:20] Speaker 1: but would have gone into the year last year, maybe
[21:23] Speaker 1: as a favorite of just over just about anyone that
[21:26] Speaker 1: we had last year. So a really good rookie defensive class.
[21:28] Speaker 2: Go ahead.
[21:29] Speaker 4: It was cool to go through. I picked David Bailey
[21:31] Speaker 4: with the Jets. not just because I think he's going
[21:33] Speaker 4: to be outstanding, but also because I think he's going
[21:35] Speaker 4: to play the most. A key mess door was a
[21:38] Speaker 4: close second for me, but he'll still be in a
[21:40] Speaker 4: three man pass rush rotation. And then David Bailey is
[21:43] Speaker 4: going to be really a featured player here. Pass rushers
[21:46] Speaker 4: are usually very popular for this award. I really wanted
[21:49] Speaker 4: to pick Caleb downs, but I just thought statistically speaking,
[21:52] Speaker 4: the eye popping stats are more possible with David Bailey.
[21:55] Speaker 1: I love that he had such a strong camp because
[21:58] Speaker 1: he was going against the jets tackles and their reporters
[22:01] Speaker 1: saw him win over and over. And then same thing
[22:03] Speaker 1: with the joint practices, same thing in preseason. So he
[22:06] Speaker 1: backed it up. Patrick, who do you got?
[22:08] Speaker 2: I have Mansour Delane.
[22:09] Speaker 3: I don't think Spags is going to put Delane in
[22:11] Speaker 3: a bad position at all. And I think he will
[22:14] Speaker 3: be in position to make plays to the extent where
[22:17] Speaker 3: we've seen good corners and they're all playing for the
[22:20] Speaker 3: Rams now. But we've seen good corners in Kansas City,
[22:23] Speaker 3: but I don't think we've seen this level of talent
[22:26] Speaker 3: for Spagnuolo. And so I think As you do, right,
[22:31] Speaker 3: with your MVP pick, that it's like this resurgent Chiefs season.
[22:34] Speaker 3: There's huge matchups, like primetime against the Rams. And we're
[22:38] Speaker 3: going to see Mansour Delane make enough plays to be
[22:40] Speaker 3: in this conversation to eventually get.
[22:42] Speaker 2: Him the vote.
[22:42] Speaker 4: I think it helps him that Noel Williams was really
[22:44] Speaker 4: good last year, too, because he's going to get– Mansour
[22:46] Speaker 4: Delane's going to get thrown at. And I think it
[22:49] Speaker 4: helps him rack up the statistics, to your point.
[22:51] Speaker 1: For sure, in that aggressive– defense. They really count on
[22:55] Speaker 1: their cornerbacks and I think that's a good one. I
[22:57] Speaker 1: wrote down I want to see what you guys choose
[22:59] Speaker 1: first because they all seem so even.
[23:01] Speaker 4: No, no.
[23:02] Speaker 1: This time I just wanted to be the third. I
[23:04] Speaker 1: just wanted three different names. Sonny Stiles had a quiet
[23:09] Speaker 1: camp so that scares me off of him just a
[23:11] Speaker 1: little because the other guys got such positive notes. I'll
[23:15] Speaker 1: go with my heart here a little over my head
[23:17] Speaker 1: and go Arvel Reese because I just love that dude
[23:19] Speaker 1: and I thought he should have gone higher. Bain is
[23:22] Speaker 1: a really strong Yeah, I'm surprised none of us picked that.
[23:25] Speaker 1: Is a really strong option. He is the slight favorite
[23:27] Speaker 1: for what it's worth, although all these guys have pretty
[23:29] Speaker 1: close odds. But I love watching Arvel Reese play football.
[23:33] Speaker 1: And back in the day, off-ball linebackers would routinely win
[23:37] Speaker 1: this award because of what you mentioned about the edge rushers.
[23:40] Speaker 1: They get stats. You know, you just see them making tackles,
[23:43] Speaker 1: and I think he'll force some fumbles. Comeback Player of
[23:46] Speaker 1: the Year. An admittedly vague award.
[23:50] Speaker 4: Minus five points.
[23:51] Speaker 1: Which I know not minus five points. You still get
[23:54] Speaker 1: a point for this. And this is where the fact
[23:58] Speaker 1: we're keeping score has me thinking. I'll let you go
[24:01] Speaker 1: first because of that.
[24:03] Speaker 3: OK, I have the comeback player of the year as
[24:06] Speaker 3: Kyler Murray coming back from it being all his fault
[24:09] Speaker 3: in the desert, finding a team that also had a
[24:13] Speaker 3: person to blame. And in solving that issue as well
[24:17] Speaker 3: and fixing things for Justin Jefferson to the extent that
[24:19] Speaker 3: he's Greg's Offensive Player of the Year, Kyler Murray is
[24:22] Speaker 3: my Comeback Player of the Year.
[24:23] Speaker 1: Kyler Murray is the third favorite. Now, in this category,
[24:29] Speaker 1: there is a heavier favorite to win an award, specifically
[24:34] Speaker 1: this one, Jordan, than there is in any other awards
[24:37] Speaker 1: category by quite a bit. Can you guess who that
[24:41] Speaker 1: player is?
[24:42] Speaker 4: I was not paying attention to you just now.
[24:44] Speaker 1: Oh, my God.
[24:45] Speaker 2: Is it Patrick Mahomes?
[24:46] Speaker 1: You've got to be present. We're in the studio.
[24:48] Speaker 4: I was looking up a rule clarification.
[24:52] Speaker 1: What rule? Our rules? We haven't even given out the
[24:54] Speaker 1: point system yet.
[24:55] Speaker 4: The Associated Press, I was remembering last year, they sent
[24:57] Speaker 4: out an advisory that said the player has to come
[24:59] Speaker 4: back from an injury or an illness. That was the
[25:02] Speaker 4: advisory they sent out last year. I was just.
[25:05] Speaker 1: Looking it up. Okay. Patrick Mahomes is the heaviest favorite
[25:09] Speaker 1: in this award compared to any other player in any
[25:12] Speaker 1: other award by far. Now, if I'm just playing the game,
[25:17] Speaker 1: you can see him winning this award, but I also
[25:19] Speaker 1: just picked him to win MVP. They're not going to
[25:21] Speaker 1: give him both.
[25:21] Speaker 4: Patrick Mahomes.
[25:24] Speaker 1: Is that going to be your pick too? If you're
[25:26] Speaker 1: playing the game, I think that's... Yeah, that's my pick.
[25:28] Speaker 2: It's a good choice.
[25:28] Speaker 1: Yeah. I'll go Aaron Donald. He's not coming back from
[25:31] Speaker 1: an injury, but certainly you could give him comeback player
[25:35] Speaker 1: of the year.
[25:36] Speaker 4: He was my second choice. I don't know if this
[25:38] Speaker 4: advisory will actually be followed. That's the thing. They sent
[25:42] Speaker 4: out like a stern because it was Flacco, right? Because
[25:44] Speaker 4: it was Flacco won it.
[25:45] Speaker 3: Yeah, there's an advisory for one of the more easily
[25:48] Speaker 3: determined awards that nobody's ever argued over, right?
[25:51] Speaker 2: But MVP can be as nebulous as we.
[25:53] Speaker 1: Possibly want it to be. Well, because once they gave
[25:55] Speaker 1: Phillip Rivers the award for bouncing back from being the
[25:58] Speaker 1: 17th best quarterback to the 8th, it like made zero
[26:02] Speaker 1: sense whatsoever. There's been a couple of times that happened.
[26:04] Speaker 1: Aaron Donald literally didn't play football. He's coming back. So
[26:07] Speaker 1: I feel like he qualifies.
[26:08] Speaker 4: Part of it was the, one of the issues where
[26:12] Speaker 4: the player who came back from his couch to play football,
[26:15] Speaker 4: wanted over a player who was hard, whose heart stopped
[26:19] Speaker 4: on the football field. So I think, in that case,
[26:22] Speaker 4: we got a sternly worded, it was a sternly worded. Um,
[26:26] Speaker 4: but yeah, my home, I'm picking my homes, but I
[26:28] Speaker 4: think Aaron Donald is a very close second. I love
[26:30] Speaker 4: the Kyler pick because I do think that he will
[26:33] Speaker 4: be very much in this conversation about, uh, quote unquote
[26:38] Speaker 4: redemption where maybe they didn't have to be even any redemption. Yeah.
[26:41] Speaker 3: And I think that that makes it difficult because you're
[26:43] Speaker 3: going to need the people who vote on this award
[26:46] Speaker 3: to feel like There's some sort of thing there, but
[26:48] Speaker 3: those are the people who are also willing to blame
[26:50] Speaker 3: Kyler for everything that went wrong in Arizona. Well, you
[26:54] Speaker 3: look at some of the principals involved and see how
[26:56] Speaker 3: things are going for them right now, and.
[26:58] Speaker 2: You have some questions.
[26:59] Speaker 1: Even though Mahomes is such a favorite, there's so many
[27:01] Speaker 1: incredible options because of how many big stars we lost
[27:04] Speaker 1: last year to injury. Jaden Daniels, Malik Neighbors, Micah Parsons,
[27:08] Speaker 1: Fred Warner. Tucker Kraft, George Kittles.
[27:12] Speaker 2: A lot of good players.
[27:13] Speaker 4: There's a lot of really good options here.
[27:15] Speaker 1: Daniel Jones is a solid one here.
[27:16] Speaker 2: I think Greg just named an all-pro team.
[27:18] Speaker 4: Yeah.
[27:20] Speaker 1: Last award is Coach of the Year. And this could
[27:25] Speaker 1: be a little preview of what's coming in the second
[27:29] Speaker 1: half of our show because it matches up. I have D'Amico.
[27:34] Speaker 1: Damn it. Me too. I had a feeling.
[27:37] Speaker 4: I think I picked him last year too. I have
[27:39] Speaker 4: D'Amico again.
[27:40] Speaker 1: D'Amico Ryan. He's never won the award. I went to check.
[27:42] Speaker 1: He came in second once. I think he tied. How
[27:45] Speaker 1: stupid is it to tie and then you don't get
[27:47] Speaker 1: the award? Stupid.
[27:49] Speaker 3: Because we had Steve McNair, rest in peace, and Peyton
[27:52] Speaker 3: Manning share an MVP once.
[27:53] Speaker 2: Why not share coach of the year?
[27:57] Speaker 1: I believe it was the Stefanski.
[27:59] Speaker 4: The egos involved.
[28:00] Speaker 1: Can you imagine?
[28:02] Speaker 4: Like, okay, stand together and hold the flag.
[28:04] Speaker 1: Okay. They each had 165 total points, him and Kevin Stefanski.
[28:11] Speaker 1: But Stefanski had one more first place votes, and that's
[28:15] Speaker 1: the tiebreaker. So someone probably had, you know, D'Amico. I
[28:20] Speaker 1: had Stefanski like third, but, you know, I had him first.
[28:23] Speaker 1: That is where you need to step in.
[28:26] Speaker 3: Matt Ryan's on Instagram concerned about fairness. Like, tell Kevin
[28:29] Speaker 3: to give that one.
[28:29] Speaker 1: Right.
[28:30] Speaker 2: Send that one to Houston.
[28:30] Speaker 1: This is where, first of all, D'Amico Ryan's was taking
[28:33] Speaker 1: over a team that had won I think, what, five
[28:36] Speaker 1: games in two years combined and won 10. Second of all,
[28:39] Speaker 1: this is where an awards commissioner just needs to step
[28:42] Speaker 1: in and be like, we can't be giving Kevin Stefanski
[28:44] Speaker 1: a second award here. This is not going to look
[28:46] Speaker 1: good when he is falling asleep coaching up Jack Strand
[28:51] Speaker 1: in week four of 2026.
[28:53] Speaker 4: Just, and some coaches just keep on winning and keep
[28:58] Speaker 4: on succeeding, and other coaches just sort of coast on
[29:00] Speaker 4: the glory of a Coach of the Year Award.
[29:03] Speaker 1: Ooh.
[29:04] Speaker 2: Wow.
[29:04] Speaker 3: Bringing us to my Coach of the Year pick, Kevin
[29:07] Speaker 3: O'Connell wins Coach of the Year because like D'Amico, players
[29:12] Speaker 3: come in, they have success early. You never get the
[29:15] Speaker 3: perception of, wow, this bad player really turned it around
[29:18] Speaker 3: under this coach. And so he gets the ding because
[29:21] Speaker 3: we take the players that he developed and say, oh, well,
[29:25] Speaker 3: they're good. where here you have this heroic head coach
[29:29] Speaker 3: who rescues players and brings them back from the depths
[29:32] Speaker 3: of despair.
[29:33] Speaker 2: And Kevin O'Connell wins another coach of the year.
[29:35] Speaker 1: That would be sad because that'll be the second time
[29:38] Speaker 1: in three years. It basically the only non like he
[29:42] Speaker 1: wins the award whenever J.J. McCarthy is not as well.
[29:44] Speaker 4: I was going to say that means they have to
[29:47] Speaker 4: trade J.J. Right. Because the reminder of this not working
[29:50] Speaker 4: is is right.
[29:51] Speaker 1: That is a long shot, by the way.
[29:53] Speaker 3: He is somebody wanting to trade for J.J.
[29:54] Speaker 1: He is the 15th favorite. Can you guess, this surprises me,
[30:01] Speaker 1: the favorite, maybe some of the favorites for coach of
[30:03] Speaker 1: the year?
[30:04] Speaker 2: Kyle Shanahan? No.
[30:08] Speaker 1: My hint will be like none of the old standbys
[30:11] Speaker 1: who are actually the best coaches of the year every year,
[30:14] Speaker 1: like Shanahan and McVay and Andy Reid are anywhere close
[30:20] Speaker 1: because it's all narrative. So that's ridiculous.
[30:23] Speaker 2: So Minter?
[30:24] Speaker 4: Jesse Minter.
[30:24] Speaker 1: Minter is second. Kellen Moore is third. Salah's fourth. They
[30:30] Speaker 1: like the new time coaches, which is the new coaches.
[30:33] Speaker 4: Give me a hint for one. He's not going.
[30:36] Speaker 1: To win the best introductory speech to his team award.
[30:40] Speaker 4: Oh, Liam Cohen.
[30:41] Speaker 2: No.
[30:41] Speaker 1: Oh, to his team. Harbaugh.
[30:43] Speaker 4: I thought you were meant to introductory speech.
[30:45] Speaker 1: John Harbaugh.
[30:46] Speaker 4: I jumped the gun on you there.
[30:47] Speaker 1: Solid favorite.
[30:48] Speaker 4: John Harbaugh is the favorite.
[30:49] Speaker 2: Okay. Provides me with an opportunity to say lines are
[30:51] Speaker 2: to spur action.
[30:52] Speaker 4: Yeah. That I know.
[30:54] Speaker 1: It's a great point.
[30:55] Speaker 4: That I know.
[30:56] Speaker 1: We don't go too heavy in terms of the lines
[30:58] Speaker 1: on this show, but I thought it was instructive. That
[31:00] Speaker 1: was fun. That was the awards. And I can't wait
[31:04] Speaker 1: to hear the sound effects and the music that Eric
[31:07] Speaker 1: has for the rest of the show. Let's take a
[31:10] Speaker 1: quick break. No pressure, Eric. Pressure is a privilege.
[31:15] Speaker 4: My chair just kept sinking, too.
[31:20] Speaker 1: Billie Jean King. We'll hear the Super Bowl winners after
[31:24] Speaker 1: the break.
[31:25] Speaker 2: What happened to Patrick? I'm sunk.
[31:39] Speaker 1: That's firing me up, firing me up to tell people
[31:44] Speaker 1: about a scoring system. One point for every award. Except
[31:50] Speaker 1: for MVP, we get two points. One point for every
[31:54] Speaker 1: division winner and wildcard team correctly named. Now, if you
[32:00] Speaker 1: pick a division winner that ends up a wildcard or
[32:03] Speaker 1: vice versa, no points. You got to get it exactly
[32:06] Speaker 1: on what they actually earn. You get an extra point
[32:11] Speaker 1: if you predict a team correctly into the conference championships.
[32:15] Speaker 1: an extra point into the Super Bowl, and then another
[32:17] Speaker 1: extra point for the correct Super Bowl champion. So if
[32:19] Speaker 1: you got that Super Bowl champion right, that's four points
[32:22] Speaker 1: right there. That's a big deal. We have one extra
[32:25] Speaker 1: award that was originated in the great mind of executive
[32:31] Speaker 1: producer Jordan Rodrigue of Quarterback Island fame. Quarterback Island's a hit.
[32:36] Speaker 4: Oh, man.
[32:36] Speaker 1: We had so much fun. We're at the point of
[32:38] Speaker 1: Quarterback Island. The numbers are great. The reaction. Everything's happening.
[32:43] Speaker 1: it's actually going to be hard to keep the group
[32:46] Speaker 1: together because people want to start getting paid more. It's
[32:48] Speaker 1: going to be a friend situation where they're all going
[32:50] Speaker 1: to start negotiating together.
[32:51] Speaker 4: I just, I like that the quarterback Island terminology is
[32:55] Speaker 4: starting to take hold. Like people were actually explaining the
[32:58] Speaker 4: rules better than I can explain them. And maybe you
[33:03] Speaker 4: need to talk to them.
[33:04] Speaker 3: Yeah.
[33:04] Speaker 1: I probably don't understand them either. So everyone go check
[33:06] Speaker 1: out all the content from this week. This was one
[33:08] Speaker 1: of my favorite weeks of the entire season. We have our,
[33:11] Speaker 1: Over under win totals, I did some making the leap
[33:13] Speaker 1: picks with Brett Coleman. We had quarterback Island kicking off
[33:17] Speaker 1: the week, and now we're really ending it in style,
[33:20] Speaker 1: going through every division. Let's start with the AFC East, Patrick.
[33:26] Speaker 2: I believe the Buffalo.
[33:26] Speaker 3: Bills will win the AFC East, and it's Bills, Patriots,
[33:34] Speaker 3: the Dolphins bringing up the very last bit. Um, the,
[33:39] Speaker 3: the jets falling there in between, uh, the Patriots and the,
[33:42] Speaker 3: and the fence, but it.
[33:43] Speaker 2: It all shapes up.
[33:44] Speaker 3: Not a lot of significant changes on, on offense. They
[33:47] Speaker 3: get better on offense, talent wise, uh, on defense. It's
[33:50] Speaker 3: a mystery box, but it's, it's safe to be chalky
[33:55] Speaker 3: with Josh Allen.
[33:55] Speaker 1: I think they just have a higher floor. I picked
[33:57] Speaker 1: them too. I want to change it to the Patriots
[34:01] Speaker 1: for the purposes of this exercise and not all being
[34:04] Speaker 1: the same. And for, picking what I root for, which
[34:07] Speaker 1: is generally what I do. But like I said, earlier
[34:10] Speaker 1: in the week, we had to put the picks down
[34:13] Speaker 1: without knowing anyone else's picks on NFL.com. 17 people picked
[34:17] Speaker 1: the Bills, including myself. Only two picked the Patriots. That
[34:21] Speaker 1: feels too mismatched, but I can't fault it because I
[34:24] Speaker 1: was one of the two. I have real concerns about
[34:27] Speaker 1: the Patriots' defense in a way that I don't over
[34:30] Speaker 1: anything specifically with the Bills.
[34:33] Speaker 4: And their depth. And as the, even the head coach
[34:36] Speaker 4: came out and, and made some pointed commentary on that
[34:39] Speaker 4: and that will really serve you well. And in October, November, December,
[34:44] Speaker 4: when you're trying to make a playoff push, I also
[34:45] Speaker 4: picked the Buffalo bills to win the AFC East. I
[34:49] Speaker 4: think they're upside on offense is even better. I love
[34:52] Speaker 4: the pairing of Josh Allen with DJ Moore. I think
[34:55] Speaker 4: that's going to be so much fun. Their run game
[34:57] Speaker 4: is really good. Their offensive line remains good. Yeah, defense,
[35:01] Speaker 4: like you said, it's a mystery box, but I really
[35:04] Speaker 4: like some of the guys that are there, and I
[35:07] Speaker 4: really like Jim Leonard, the new defensive coordinator.
[35:10] Speaker 1: Yeah, he's a huge X factor. He could upgrade that defense,
[35:14] Speaker 1: or he could make you miss Sean McDermott. We'll see.
[35:16] Speaker 1: I have the Ravens as my AFC North pick. I
[35:21] Speaker 1: think the NFL.com voters are instructive, just how people are
[35:24] Speaker 1: kind of thinking. They got 10 votes, they being the Ravens,
[35:27] Speaker 1: and the Bengals got nine. And no one else got any.
[35:30] Speaker 1: I think that's pretty typical that it's getting split, maybe
[35:33] Speaker 1: a slight edge to the Ravens. A lot of my
[35:37] Speaker 1: Ravens optimism, Patrick, is about the coaching, is about Minter
[35:42] Speaker 1: upgrading the defensive coaching. And frankly, them looking on paper
[35:46] Speaker 1: like they have a little better depth defensively, especially up
[35:49] Speaker 1: front than they did a year ago. So this was
[35:51] Speaker 1: not a hard pick for me.
[35:52] Speaker 3: No, and especially considering the rest of the division, I
[35:55] Speaker 3: was very low in the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Cleveland Browns.
[35:58] Speaker 3: And so that lifts up, obviously, the Ravens and the Bengals.
[36:01] Speaker 3: The Ravens with a couple game advantage over Cincinnati where
[36:04] Speaker 3: it's not necessarily even homerism in my view.
[36:06] Speaker 2: The way that the schedule specifically shakes out with some of.
[36:09] Speaker 3: The home road circumstances for the Bengals and the Ravens
[36:12] Speaker 3: as well as the primetime games where the confidence is there.
[36:17] Speaker 3: You get the plus side of a couple of defenders
[36:20] Speaker 3: where you didn't know during the Orr-Halbar era, if those
[36:25] Speaker 3: defenders were going to pan out. Seen evidence of that
[36:28] Speaker 3: in the preseason, enough to feel confident about it.
[36:30] Speaker 4: I also picked the Ravens. I think I really like
[36:35] Speaker 4: the points that you and Dave Damaschek, the great Dave Damaschek,
[36:38] Speaker 4: made earlier this week on your show that the Cincinnati
[36:43] Speaker 4: Bengals remind people a lot of the Dallas Cowboys in
[36:46] Speaker 4: terms of their variance or just how they're built or
[36:49] Speaker 4: the certain elements that... of the floors that have to
[36:51] Speaker 4: be raised here. I just am less high or certain
[36:55] Speaker 4: on that because I can't trust that the quarterback will
[36:57] Speaker 4: stay healthy. And I trust that when the quarterback is healthy,
[37:00] Speaker 4: he's elite. I like what they're doing. They're not being
[37:02] Speaker 4: shy about changing their, their scheme that the Cincinnati Bengals.
[37:06] Speaker 4: It's just that I also, I also look at a
[37:08] Speaker 4: team like the Baltimore Ravens and they're also going under
[37:11] Speaker 4: an offensive scheme change. And I just believe it so
[37:14] Speaker 4: much more. I believe in it so much more. And
[37:15] Speaker 4: I believe that the defense will be, will be so
[37:19] Speaker 4: much better in And this is just going to be
[37:21] Speaker 4: a wagon, honestly, the Baltimore Ravens. So I really, I
[37:24] Speaker 4: think that to me, when I'm thinking about even teams,
[37:28] Speaker 4: when we go through like our wild cards and stuff,
[37:30] Speaker 4: like it's getting kind of scary for a couple of
[37:33] Speaker 4: these very, very high variance teams of not maybe not
[37:35] Speaker 4: even making it. I would include the Bengals and the
[37:37] Speaker 4: Patriots in that.
[37:39] Speaker 1: The AFC is just so deep in the West.
[37:42] Speaker 4: The West is just skewing everything in favor of the West, really.
[37:46] Speaker 2: Yeah.
[37:47] Speaker 1: The South could make the case for depth, too. Do
[37:50] Speaker 1: we all have the Texans winning it?
[37:52] Speaker 4: Yes.
[37:52] Speaker 2: I do not. I have the Jacksonville Jaguars winning the division.
[37:56] Speaker 1: A little diversity.
[37:57] Speaker 2: And the Texans ruining somebody's very good season, getting in.
[38:00] Speaker 3: At 12-5, where these two teams, and not to spoil anything,
[38:05] Speaker 3: just kind of make things very difficult for the Dimes
[38:07] Speaker 3: bounce-back season. And it is the Jags and Texans just
[38:12] Speaker 3: wrecking everybody else, also beating each other up, because I
[38:14] Speaker 3: have them splitting their games, but just far and away,
[38:20] Speaker 3: at least in terms of top heaviness, maybe not as
[38:22] Speaker 3: even as the West, but those two teams, two of.
[38:25] Speaker 2: The best teams.
[38:25] Speaker 1: I suspect we'll talk more Texans coming up with the
[38:29] Speaker 1: conference title and who knows beyond that. So we'll put
[38:31] Speaker 1: a pin in that for now. But I do think
[38:34] Speaker 1: it's a big two here. And, man, I felt bad. Like,
[38:37] Speaker 1: they were one of my favorite win total picks, Jaguars,
[38:41] Speaker 1: and yet you do have to let some teams... go
[38:44] Speaker 1: when you're picking these playoff teams because they're on paper
[38:46] Speaker 1: like someone's really going to get disappointed there's nine or
[38:48] Speaker 1: ten teams i don't have a lot of hot takes
[38:50] Speaker 1: of like who's gonna be really disappointing but but someone's
[38:53] Speaker 1: gonna wind up being that like colts fans even think
[38:55] Speaker 1: that they have a chance and they should after how
[38:57] Speaker 1: last season started in the afc west you said great
[39:00] Speaker 1: division uh who do you have on top and since
[39:05] Speaker 1: you know we're getting there you can mention who else
[39:07] Speaker 1: you have in the wild card from this division, if
[39:11] Speaker 1: you have any.
[39:12] Speaker 4: Yeah, I do. I have the Broncos winning the AFC West,
[39:15] Speaker 4: and I have three AFC West teams making the playoffs
[39:18] Speaker 4: this year, inclusive to the Chargers and the Chiefs.
[39:20] Speaker 1: So I have the Chiefs winning the division. I'm staying
[39:24] Speaker 1: consistent when we did the division and did the order.
[39:26] Speaker 1: I went back and forth all three of these teams,
[39:28] Speaker 1: but I did the same thing. thing Jordan did and
[39:31] Speaker 1: put three teams from the West into the playoffs as
[39:34] Speaker 1: my second and third wildcard teams, the Broncos, the Chargers
[39:38] Speaker 1: and the Broncos. Did you have three?
[39:40] Speaker 2: I had two.
[39:41] Speaker 3: I had two because I have the New England Patriots
[39:43] Speaker 3: getting in 12 and five and the Kansas City Chiefs.
[39:47] Speaker 3: Finishing second in the division with the Denver Broncos going
[39:49] Speaker 3: back-to-back AFC West champions.
[39:52] Speaker 2: And the start of the Davis-Webb sweepstakes.
[39:55] Speaker 3: As soon as they get that division championship wrapped up,
[40:00] Speaker 3: the interviews will begin.
[40:01] Speaker 4: What is it? The Bengals?
[40:03] Speaker 1: It could be.
[40:05] Speaker 2: I mean, these teams that are out. Yeah. Over on
[40:09] Speaker 2: this side.
[40:09] Speaker 1: Well, we have an Eric Biennemi sweepstakes if the Chiefs,
[40:12] Speaker 1: you know, offense just turns it around. Probably not based
[40:14] Speaker 1: on his college career. Experience and his experiences interviewing at
[40:20] Speaker 1: an NFL level. But he is part of the reason
[40:22] Speaker 1: in the end, I feel like it's sometimes better to
[40:27] Speaker 1: pick without thinking too deeply. And to me, it's more
[40:31] Speaker 1: just like it's Patrick freaking Mahomes in a season where
[40:35] Speaker 1: they're expected to come in third by some people, but
[40:38] Speaker 1: plenty of others. I mean, they're over under. It's not
[40:39] Speaker 1: like there's some Cinderella's ten and a half wins. I
[40:42] Speaker 1: just think they will find a way and somehow be
[40:45] Speaker 1: rejuvenated with a bit of a fresh start. And they
[40:48] Speaker 1: got to play less football last year. That's not a
[40:51] Speaker 1: bad thing. That's a real thing.
[40:52] Speaker 4: Yeah, it's a real thing. I think it's a real
[40:53] Speaker 4: benefit to them. And you mentioned Eric Bien-Aimé, and I
[40:56] Speaker 4: really love what he will infuse into this offense. The
[41:01] Speaker 4: run game, but also the way that he marries the
[41:04] Speaker 4: run and the pass together, we'll see a lot of
[41:06] Speaker 4: the Patrick Mahomes players When Patrick Mahomes was thriving out
[41:09] Speaker 4: of a bunch of different alignments a few years ago,
[41:12] Speaker 4: we're going to see all of that. And I really
[41:14] Speaker 4: can't wait to see what we get from this.
[41:16] Speaker 1: I have the Pats as my first wildcard team. I
[41:19] Speaker 1: do think they're going to be good this season, double-digit wins.
[41:24] Speaker 1: We'll talk about them a little more at length going
[41:27] Speaker 1: into that kickoff game, Jordan, you and I. But I
[41:30] Speaker 1: just think their route is simple. It's being a top-five offense, having...
[41:35] Speaker 1: just one of the best passing games in the nfl
[41:38] Speaker 1: again like on paper it looks better in year two
[41:43] Speaker 1: of a complicated offense and by a lot of efficiency
[41:46] Speaker 1: metrics they were the best last year throwing the football
[41:49] Speaker 1: and so i think that gets lost that like drake
[41:51] Speaker 1: may can get better the passing game can get better
[41:53] Speaker 1: and that it's a flawed team that i think is
[41:55] Speaker 1: gonna be very entertaining to watch and so that's why
[41:58] Speaker 1: i have them as a wild card not as the
[41:59] Speaker 1: division winner but i like them getting in your, you
[42:02] Speaker 1: had the Pats in, you had the Jaguars and the
[42:05] Speaker 1: Texans in, and you had the, so we already know
[42:09] Speaker 1: your teams. You had the chiefs in as a wild card.
[42:11] Speaker 1: Is that what you said?
[42:12] Speaker 2: Uh, yeah. Chiefs in the wild card.
[42:13] Speaker 1: That's yours.
[42:14] Speaker 4: I had the Jaguars in.
[42:15] Speaker 2: Okay.
[42:16] Speaker 1: You had the Jag. So, cards on the table. I
[42:18] Speaker 1: had the Jaguars out. That one hurt me the most. Whoa.
[42:22] Speaker 4: Liam Cohen.
[42:23] Speaker 2: I like it. It helps my pick because Coach Cohen will,
[42:25] Speaker 2: you know, clip that, show the team.
[42:27] Speaker 4: Show the team.
[42:28] Speaker 1: But you know what? They were one of my highest picks.
[42:32] Speaker 1: in our wind totals draft. Cause eight and a half
[42:33] Speaker 1: just felt outrageous. So I do think they're going to
[42:36] Speaker 1: be good.
[42:36] Speaker 4: They're not going to care about that.
[42:37] Speaker 1: They're not going to.
[42:39] Speaker 2: Care about that.
[42:40] Speaker 4: That's not motivating.
[42:41] Speaker 2: Small text at the bottom of the bulletin board where
[42:43] Speaker 2: it's like.
[42:44] Speaker 1: They're also not my pick for the, you let us down.
[42:47] Speaker 1: Biggest disappointment team award. If this is a word, there's
[42:53] Speaker 1: no way to get points for this one to be clear. Unless, uh,
[42:57] Speaker 1: Unless Eric decides at the end of the year, why
[43:00] Speaker 1: don't we give the responsibility to Eric?
[43:02] Speaker 3: Eric.
[43:02] Speaker 4: Yeah, let's give Eric more work.
[43:04] Speaker 2: Maybe it's a tiebreaker.
[43:05] Speaker 1: I think Eric decides who's the winner of the AFC's
[43:10] Speaker 1: You Let Us Down Biggest Disappointment Team. Yeah, we'll officially
[43:13] Speaker 1: put this as a tiebreaker. If anyone ties, this will
[43:15] Speaker 1: be the tiebreaker, and Eric will decide it. Although, who knows?
[43:19] Speaker 1: We might have the same teams by the sound of it.
[43:23] Speaker 2: I've vacillated back and forth.
[43:25] Speaker 3: I will go Colts because they're a good team in
[43:28] Speaker 3: a tough division. Maybe, you know, maybe it's not fair
[43:30] Speaker 3: to say you let us down disappointed, but.
[43:32] Speaker 1: Like to me, and I'm not trying to sway future January,
[43:37] Speaker 1: Eric fun season. We had a good time here. I know,
[43:41] Speaker 1: I know I can be a jerk sometime, but like,
[43:44] Speaker 1: I think we made a great product and we learned
[43:46] Speaker 1: a lot about each other. Uh, I'm saying the Colts,
[43:50] Speaker 1: if the Colts win eight games, that's not a biggest
[43:52] Speaker 1: disappointment to me, even seven or eight games. To me,
[43:55] Speaker 1: the Colts' biggest disappointment, if they kind of bottom out,
[43:57] Speaker 1: which I think is a possibility. You know what I mean?
[44:00] Speaker 1: If they win eight games, that's fine.
[44:02] Speaker 4: I don't have them making the playoffs, so I can't
[44:04] Speaker 4: be disappointed by them, is kind of how I read it.
[44:08] Speaker 1: Well, in theory, any team that is your biggest disappointment...
[44:14] Speaker 1: Would be.
[44:14] Speaker 4: It's the Patriots for me, because to go from being
[44:17] Speaker 4: in the literal Superbowl and missing the playoffs to me,
[44:20] Speaker 4: that would be the biggest disappointment. The only reason is a,
[44:24] Speaker 4: because I think the AFC West is so strong and
[44:26] Speaker 4: I think the Jaguars and Texan ceilings are so high
[44:29] Speaker 4: that this just absolutely is a numbers game. And it just,
[44:32] Speaker 4: someone is miserable by the end of this. Right. And
[44:34] Speaker 4: I love that for the AFC in general, because it's
[44:36] Speaker 4: going to be fun football. But I look at their schedule.
[44:39] Speaker 4: I look at, again, the depth concerns. I look at just,
[44:42] Speaker 4: I think that this offense is going to be just fine.
[44:45] Speaker 4: I don't see them being able to be maybe as
[44:48] Speaker 4: multiple as other teams are, which would really help them.
[44:51] Speaker 4: I'm not convinced on the sustainability of their run game.
[44:54] Speaker 4: I'd like to see that improve. And I just don't know.
[44:58] Speaker 4: And their schedule is dense. So for me, they.
[45:02] Speaker 1: Were the odd man out. Plus, it's a good podcast move.
[45:05] Speaker 4: Well, I learned so much from you as you continue
[45:08] Speaker 4: to attempt to mold me in your image.
[45:10] Speaker 1: I'm not trying. If that's just what naturally happens, bye.
[45:15] Speaker 1: Being around greatness, then, you know, that's good influence.
[45:21] Speaker 3: You give the man an electric car and an MVP vote,
[45:23] Speaker 3: it's all over.
[45:26] Speaker 2: CX-5 Greg is gone.
[45:29] Speaker 1: I miss it. I miss the CX-5 life, I gotta say.
[45:32] Speaker 1: I might go back.
[45:33] Speaker 2: I'll let you know how it is.
[45:34] Speaker 1: Yeah. I like parking right next to Patrick with our
[45:38] Speaker 1: matching cars. The Bengals are my pick. And I could
[45:44] Speaker 1: be falling victim to the thing that happens in offseason
[45:46] Speaker 1: sometime where like back in March and April, I think
[45:49] Speaker 1: I was very high on the Bengals and then just
[45:51] Speaker 1: I got sick of it over time and everyone's high
[45:53] Speaker 1: on the Bengals. New scheme. Coaches I don't really believe in.
[45:58] Speaker 1: An offensive line I don't really believe in. It's a
[46:01] Speaker 1: bad combo. And then you could read the Joe Burrow
[46:04] Speaker 1: like urgency and all this stuff is like, eh. You
[46:08] Speaker 1: really need to do that. You know, the real ones
[46:11] Speaker 1: don't need.
[46:11] Speaker 2: To do that.
[46:13] Speaker 1: Joey B is happy. Joey B is happy. You know,
[46:15] Speaker 1: it's almost like voicing your biggest fears. So that would
[46:20] Speaker 1: be the Bengals. And to me, if they miss the
[46:22] Speaker 1: playoffs at all, that's a big disappointment. If they have
[46:24] Speaker 1: a losing record, forget about it. Let's do the Vibes
[46:26] Speaker 1: Awards at the end. Let's go to the NFC East
[46:29] Speaker 1: where the voters at NFL.com chose the Dallas Cowboys. The
[46:35] Speaker 1: biggest surprise I saw in terms of just consensus over the...
[46:41] Speaker 1: Philadelphia Eagles, by the way, in the West, the, the
[46:43] Speaker 1: Broncos got eight votes. The chargers got seven and the
[46:46] Speaker 1: chiefs got four. So split pretty well between those three, which,
[46:49] Speaker 1: which makes a lot of sense to me. Do you
[46:52] Speaker 1: have the Cowboys or the Eagles, Jordan?
[46:53] Speaker 4: I have the Cowboys. I think that it's not that
[46:56] Speaker 4: I doubt the Eagles. I think the Eagles are going
[46:58] Speaker 4: to be really interesting to follow this year. I just
[47:00] Speaker 4: think the Cowboys have all of the elements in the
[47:05] Speaker 4: equation to ultimately achieve this. Their offense is not getting worse.
[47:09] Speaker 4: In my opinion, the, high level quarterback play, good run game,
[47:14] Speaker 4: great receivers, great, really, really good to great offensive line
[47:18] Speaker 4: and a lifted floor on defense. So to me, I
[47:22] Speaker 4: think that they, and good special teams. So to me
[47:26] Speaker 4: in every phase, I just think they're, they are so quality. Um,
[47:30] Speaker 4: I think they're really well coached. I think that this
[47:33] Speaker 4: is just going to be a group that will earn
[47:36] Speaker 4: the hype that it gets this year.
[47:37] Speaker 1: Have them as my second wildcard team. I like what
[47:39] Speaker 1: you said about the offensive line, a lots on Clayton
[47:41] Speaker 1: Adams and, and the front, man, I think they have
[47:44] Speaker 1: a high variance offensive line. If you told me they
[47:46] Speaker 1: have a great offensive line, then the Superbowl is possible. Uh, this,
[47:50] Speaker 1: this to me could be, they could be average. It
[47:52] Speaker 1: could be a little below average. They could be, they
[47:53] Speaker 1: could be great, which is why I love taking the Eagles.
[47:56] Speaker 1: I mean, to me, it's a little, as I sat
[47:59] Speaker 1: with it more, it's just, it's a little cuckoo, cuckoo
[48:02] Speaker 1: puffs to not, just view the Eagles as the juggernaut
[48:05] Speaker 1: that they've been, that they win 11 games in bad seasons,
[48:07] Speaker 1: that their roster is awesome. And so I'm just going
[48:10] Speaker 1: to stick with the Eagles because whenever I don't, they
[48:12] Speaker 1: make me regret it.
[48:13] Speaker 4: I think they'll have one of the, top three defenses
[48:16] Speaker 4: in football.
[48:17] Speaker 1: You have them as one of your wild cards.
[48:18] Speaker 4: Yeah. And whether it's one to three, I don't, I
[48:20] Speaker 4: just don't know.
[48:20] Speaker 1: Do you have both these teams in Patrick?
[48:22] Speaker 2: I do not have both. Ooh, give us.
[48:25] Speaker 1: The spice now.
[48:26] Speaker 2: Why not? I have the Dallas Cowboys in and I
[48:28] Speaker 2: have the Philadelphia Eagles out.
[48:30] Speaker 1: Are they your biggest disappointment? You let us down because
[48:33] Speaker 1: if they're out, they're an extremely strong candidate, but they
[48:36] Speaker 1: don't have to be that award.
[48:37] Speaker 2: Yeah. No, it was the spoiler alert. The Eagles would
[48:40] Speaker 2: be the biggest disappointment team.
[48:42] Speaker 3: After winning 11 games in a division that is exceedingly
[48:45] Speaker 3: top heavy to me, one of the more top heavy teams.
[48:48] Speaker 2: But I, you know. Again, perhaps the comeback player of
[48:52] Speaker 2: the year.
[48:52] Speaker 1: Wait, you have them missing the playoffs but winning 11 games?
[48:55] Speaker 1: The Eagles?
[48:55] Speaker 2: I do.
[48:56] Speaker 1: Now, this is bad podcasting. You're trying to have your
[49:00] Speaker 1: cake and eat it too. That's a great season, 11 wins.
[49:02] Speaker 2: It's great. It's a great season.
[49:04] Speaker 3: But at the end of the season, if they're not in,
[49:06] Speaker 3: it's going to be a big disappointment because of the
[49:08] Speaker 3: talent that they have.
[49:09] Speaker 4: It's great podcasting.
[49:10] Speaker 1: I want... I have.
[49:12] Speaker 3: One division getting three games in. And so it's going
[49:14] Speaker 3: to it's going to be tough, uh, for the Philadelphia Eagles. Uh,
[49:17] Speaker 3: as I have Dallas, uh, running away, uh, honestly, well,
[49:21] Speaker 3: not running away. It's three game lead, uh, over the
[49:23] Speaker 3: Eagles and, and getting, getting the buy.
[49:25] Speaker 2: Honestly.
[49:26] Speaker 4: Wow.
[49:26] Speaker 2: Okay.
[49:27] Speaker 1: Cause I have, you made up for that.
[49:28] Speaker 2: I have horrible seasons for the commanders in the job.
[49:31] Speaker 1: Good, good move. Yeah. Do any of us have either
[49:34] Speaker 1: one of those teams? No, no, no. So I, I
[49:36] Speaker 1: still like the Cowboys plenty. Good offense, good schedule. Um,
[49:40] Speaker 1: with those two teams. NFC North, I suspect, could be
[49:45] Speaker 1: mixed up. Let's start with Patrick.
[49:47] Speaker 3: The Minnesota Vikings win the division after a tiebreaker.
[49:51] Speaker 4: See, you just had to give them some time.
[49:53] Speaker 2: Yeah, over the Detroit Lions.
[49:55] Speaker 3: They both finished 12-5, but the Vikings get the division
[49:58] Speaker 3: championship leaving two very, very good teams. A crazy season.
[50:03] Speaker 3: 11-6 Green Bay Packers out of the playoffs. 10-7 Chicago Bears.
[50:07] Speaker 1: You're just giving everyone a participation trophy. Everyone wins 11 games,
[50:11] Speaker 1: and yet they somehow don't make the playoffs.
[50:13] Speaker 3: I have two teams in the conference winning one game.
[50:15] Speaker 2: Okay, yeah.
[50:17] Speaker 4: He balanced it out.
[50:19] Speaker 1: I need to see how that even works out. I
[50:21] Speaker 1: don't know if it's possible. Wait, who are those two
[50:23] Speaker 1: teams that only win one game? Well, no.
[50:25] Speaker 2: The Falcons win two games. The Giants win two games.
[50:27] Speaker 2: The Commanders win one.
[50:28] Speaker 1: The Giants win two! That is... Wait, how many did
[50:30] Speaker 1: the Commanders win?
[50:33] Speaker 4: One. One!
[50:34] Speaker 2: I just went through and picked. Okay.
[50:35] Speaker 1: I just went through and picked. You've made... Oh, wow.
[50:39] Speaker 1: You went through every game and did everything.
[50:40] Speaker 2: Yeah, I picked every game.
[50:42] Speaker 1: And so the Commanders... It was.
[50:43] Speaker 2: The only way to make sure that I didn't have
[50:44] Speaker 2: 17 teams.
[50:46] Speaker 1: I don't know if you're able to pull this up quickly,
[50:48] Speaker 1: but you are saying... I'm just doing the math in
[50:54] Speaker 1: my head. In games, I'm assuming you had the Giants
[50:57] Speaker 1: and the Commanders split, correct? Yes.
[50:59] Speaker 2: Okay.
[51:00] Speaker 1: So in games, when they were not playing one another,
[51:05] Speaker 1: they went 1-31. And I'm curious where and what that
[51:11] Speaker 1: victory was.
[51:12] Speaker 3: After the show, we will click back through this.
[51:17] Speaker 1: Just for Giants and Commanders fans out there, when you
[51:19] Speaker 1: two bums don't play each other... You will go 131.
[51:23] Speaker 1: Who is the team? The Giants got a second win
[51:25] Speaker 1: in there somewhere. The Giants got a second win. I'll
[51:29] Speaker 1: let you handle that. I don't know how we got there.
[51:36] Speaker 1: I got the Vikings in the playoffs, too, by the way.
[51:39] Speaker 1: Let's just talk. I thought I was being cute with
[51:43] Speaker 1: the Vikings as a playoff team. I was like, man,
[51:45] Speaker 1: my picks are a little too chalky. So I had
[51:47] Speaker 1: them as my last wildcard team. But I have the
[51:49] Speaker 1: Lions winning the division. Who do you have?
[51:51] Speaker 4: I have the Packers winning the NFC North. I have
[51:54] Speaker 4: the Lions also making the playoffs. I do not have
[51:56] Speaker 4: the Vikings.
[51:57] Speaker 1: So none of us, even though we all... Did the
[52:01] Speaker 1: thing where we gave the Bears a good record. I
[52:03] Speaker 1: actually went over on them, I think, for their win total.
[52:06] Speaker 1: I didn't take it on the show, but if I
[52:08] Speaker 1: had to choose, I probably would. And yet none of
[52:10] Speaker 1: us have them in the playoffs. That's what the Bears
[52:12] Speaker 1: fans would call it.
[52:14] Speaker 3: Capital D disrespect. I've got the entire division within two games.
[52:17] Speaker 3: It could be a coin flip. And the answer to
[52:19] Speaker 3: your question was the Cleveland Browns Sunday in week 15
[52:22] Speaker 3: traveled to MetLife Stadium to.
[52:25] Speaker 2: Take on the Giants.
[52:25] Speaker 1: Where did the Browns end up? One in 16. People
[52:33] Speaker 1: really arch in their back for Mr. Manning. That's the
[52:38] Speaker 1: phrase we're trying to get going.
[52:41] Speaker 4: I'm sorry, what?
[52:43] Speaker 1: Inappropriate. You know, you know.
[52:47] Speaker 2: What?
[52:52] Speaker 1: NFC South is the division I feel the strongest about.
[52:55] Speaker 2: Family planning for Manning.
[52:56] Speaker 1: I think that's good. I stole mine.
[53:07] Speaker 4: Take a break.
[53:08] Speaker 1: I stole mine. We can't take a break. The Buccaneers
[53:13] Speaker 1: in the NFC South are my favorite favorite. For any division.
[53:19] Speaker 1: I think there's a gap. I think they're significantly more talented.
[53:21] Speaker 1: I think they bounce back. I think defense is excellent
[53:25] Speaker 1: this year. And they're closer to an Eagles, Lions, that
[53:30] Speaker 1: category of teams than they are to the rest of
[53:32] Speaker 1: the riffraff in the NFC South.
[53:34] Speaker 2: What about you guys?
[53:36] Speaker 4: I picked my beloved Carolina Panthers to repeat.
[53:39] Speaker 2: Yeah.
[53:39] Speaker 4: Win the NFC South. That does make the Bucs my
[53:42] Speaker 4: biggest disappointment team. Yeah.
[53:44] Speaker 2: Yeah.
[53:45] Speaker 1: They occupy an interesting space coming into the season. I
[53:48] Speaker 1: feel like their vibes and the Falcons' vibes are both
[53:50] Speaker 1: a little shaky where they're on awkward footing. There's some murmurs. Yeah,
[53:56] Speaker 1: you could have a quarterback unhappy, a coach on the
[53:58] Speaker 1: hot seat. So I could see it going poorly. And
[54:01] Speaker 1: yet I just think their players are excellent at playing
[54:03] Speaker 1: football and so they win games and prevent any of
[54:06] Speaker 1: that from happening what about you yeah I.
[54:07] Speaker 3: Have Jalen Phillips and Devin Lloyd being what it takes
[54:09] Speaker 3: to take the Panthers defense to the next level and
[54:12] Speaker 3: growth on offense with Bryce and Dave Canales back together
[54:15] Speaker 3: again Panthers win the division and I'll I'll keep the
[54:19] Speaker 3: win totals uh well this one actually makes sense uh
[54:22] Speaker 3: nine and eight Panthers win the division uh eight and
[54:25] Speaker 3: nine Saints second place eight and nine bucks and then
[54:28] Speaker 3: a two and fifteen Atlanta Falcons.
[54:32] Speaker 4: Wait, who are the two?
[54:32] Speaker 1: Well, you don't have to look it up. That's having
[54:36] Speaker 1: my back. They were my number one overall pick in
[54:38] Speaker 1: our either win total draft. They said under Falcons was
[54:41] Speaker 1: my favorite. I wish we had you on NFL.com in general,
[54:45] Speaker 1: Patrick and Jordan, but especially for the diversity we could
[54:48] Speaker 1: have used in the NFC South picks. Two Panthers picks here.
[54:53] Speaker 1: That's two more than all of a nfl.com. They got,
[54:56] Speaker 1: we had 17 bucks picks and two saints picks. No
[54:59] Speaker 1: one was on the Panthers.
[54:59] Speaker 4: I'm kind of, well, you see the talent of the
[55:01] Speaker 4: bucks roster. That's the thing. But for me, I'm always
[55:04] Speaker 4: super wary. If a team has that many questions around
[55:08] Speaker 4: some of the, you know, head coaching job about around
[55:12] Speaker 4: some of the, the players that the franchise is willing
[55:15] Speaker 4: to move on from some of the, the partial measures
[55:18] Speaker 4: that seem where one foot in the last era, one
[55:20] Speaker 4: foot in the new era. You know, I want Baker
[55:23] Speaker 4: Mayfield to thrive. But today at theathletic.com, my esteemed colleague,
[55:28] Speaker 4: Zach Kiefer, one of our great writers in sports that
[55:31] Speaker 4: we have, has a story about Baker Mayfield and how
[55:33] Speaker 4: he's basically playing against his own front office this year.
[55:36] Speaker 4: So that to me, I just, you know, the vibes.
[55:39] Speaker 4: I'm a little wary.
[55:41] Speaker 1: We've seen good examples of that in the past. It
[55:43] Speaker 1: can work. I mean, Lamar Jackson... I feel like he's
[55:46] Speaker 1: doing the same thing.
[55:47] Speaker 4: Lamar Jackson is not Baker Mayfield. No. Vice versa. Baker
[55:50] Speaker 4: Mayfield is not Lamar Jackson.
[55:52] Speaker 2: Right.
[55:52] Speaker 1: I do think it's a little underplayed, and we'll make
[55:55] Speaker 1: sure to correct that because we are the NFL media.
[56:00] Speaker 1: That Lamar Jackson has a chance to change the salary
[56:02] Speaker 1: structure for quarterbacks in a way that we thought he
[56:06] Speaker 1: might previously if he forces himself to free agency this year,
[56:10] Speaker 1: which feels possible based on his contract.
[56:12] Speaker 2: Well, we'll see.
[56:13] Speaker 3: We saw a collective effort, a union, if you will,
[56:18] Speaker 3: to collaborate to make sure that didn't happen last night.
[56:21] Speaker 2: That's true.
[56:22] Speaker 1: All right, let's go to the NFC West. Do we
[56:24] Speaker 1: all have the Rams winning, or does someone want to
[56:28] Speaker 1: throw a bone to the Seahawks?
[56:30] Speaker 3: I have the defending Super Bowl champions winning the NFC West.
[56:34] Speaker 1: Let's go. Not a single person on NFL.com, including myself.
[56:39] Speaker 1: picked the Seahawks to win the division. And I was
[56:41] Speaker 1: just like, and not a single person picked them to
[56:43] Speaker 1: win the Super Bowl either.
[56:44] Speaker 4: Wow.
[56:45] Speaker 1: Like, this is just, it's just icky. I have the
[56:50] Speaker 1: Seahawks as my number one wildcard team to try to
[56:52] Speaker 1: make up for it.
[56:53] Speaker 4: So do I.
[56:54] Speaker 1: Why do you have them over the Rams, Patrick?
[56:56] Speaker 3: I think in terms of maintaining at least some aspect
[56:59] Speaker 3: of what they had on offense, I understand the coordinator change.
[57:04] Speaker 3: You know, you bring in an offensive coordinator who, in
[57:07] Speaker 3: Brian Fleury, who the 49ers ran the second most outside
[57:11] Speaker 3: zone in the NFL. When Jadarian Price was running the
[57:14] Speaker 3: outside zone again, it's at Notre Dame. He averaged seven
[57:16] Speaker 3: yards a carry. I think they can maintain success in
[57:19] Speaker 3: the run game, and you get another darn old season
[57:23] Speaker 3: with these players, even if it's a different system.
[57:26] Speaker 2: He's back with these players.
[57:29] Speaker 3: And I understand the cornerback departure is significant for your
[57:35] Speaker 3: number two corner, Enrique Woolen, but not significant enough for
[57:39] Speaker 3: me to like hate the defense now. And this group
[57:43] Speaker 3: of veterans is still really good. So I believe.
[57:46] Speaker 2: Yeah.
[57:46] Speaker 4: I love this team. I love this team. I think
[57:49] Speaker 4: they're so there to me, they don't drop off there.
[57:52] Speaker 4: The questions will be answered very quickly into the season
[57:55] Speaker 4: about these guys. And those questions to me include their
[57:57] Speaker 4: cornerback depth right now with some injuries, Nick him and worry,
[58:01] Speaker 4: still not sure whether or not he's going to start
[58:03] Speaker 4: the season. Seems like some days he will. And then
[58:06] Speaker 4: other days he won't. their third corner, that being a
[58:09] Speaker 4: little bit of a question of a question mark is
[58:10] Speaker 4: still something we're going to talk about on the, on
[58:12] Speaker 4: the previous show. But that to me, those are not
[58:14] Speaker 4: long-term problems. Those are short-term problems. And I actually think
[58:17] Speaker 4: the potential of Sam Darnold having a better season is
[58:20] Speaker 4: upon us, frankly.
[58:22] Speaker 1: And look, sometimes champions come back and they still, this
[58:26] Speaker 1: happens in the NBA a lot, but it happens in
[58:28] Speaker 1: the NFL too. We've seen it with the Eagles teams
[58:29] Speaker 1: after they make the Superbowl. So they start off with
[58:32] Speaker 1: still that same mindset. And it's, It's about proving that
[58:35] Speaker 1: you can finish as strong as you did the previous season.
[58:37] Speaker 1: Like the Seahawks finished so strong November, December. What team
[58:41] Speaker 1: do they turn into? The schedule, I think, is a
[58:43] Speaker 1: little harder this year. You know, when their offense was
[58:45] Speaker 1: struggling down the stretch last year, they were helped out
[58:48] Speaker 1: a little bit by some opponents where their defense got
[58:50] Speaker 1: to just strangle other teams. But man, I just think
[58:53] Speaker 1: these are the two best teams in the NFL by
[58:55] Speaker 1: a decent amount. And people just don't recognize like how
[58:59] Speaker 1: dominant they were as a Super Bowl team. So Jordan
[59:02] Speaker 1: and I have the Rams. We talked Seahawks. I have
[59:05] Speaker 1: the Cowboys. I failed to mention as one of my
[59:08] Speaker 1: wildcard teams and the Vikings. I did mention as my third,
[59:10] Speaker 1: which means I do not have three NFC West teams.
[59:13] Speaker 1: And then the 49ers get my, you let us down,
[59:17] Speaker 1: biggest disappointment team. I don't feel it with my entire chest,
[59:21] Speaker 1: but going through this NFC, the NFC North is stacked
[59:24] Speaker 1: and the NFC West is stacked. Someone has to get
[59:27] Speaker 1: left behind to, And they just have more questions than
[59:31] Speaker 1: other teams. They just have more age. And I'll never
[59:36] Speaker 1: doubt Kyle Shanahan's ability to coach it up. But I
[59:39] Speaker 1: do see some losing record on his mark that you
[59:42] Speaker 1: don't see with McVay, for instance. And... It does still
[59:46] Speaker 1: stick in my head that they've lost by a combined
[59:48] Speaker 1: score of 54 to nine last year. So the Seahawks
[59:52] Speaker 1: down the stretch. So I know a lot of players
[59:54] Speaker 1: are back and everything, but it's not a big three
[59:56] Speaker 1: until they prove it. To me, it's a big two.
[59:58] Speaker 1: And then the 49ers, it's tough to come in third
[1:00:00] Speaker 1: and make the playoffs.
[1:00:01] Speaker 4: Yeah, I agree with your take on the two best
[1:00:03] Speaker 4: teams in football. And because because the Seahawks. you know, thing,
[1:00:09] Speaker 4: they won the way they did last year. I sort
[1:00:11] Speaker 4: of flipped it this year just in terms of when
[1:00:14] Speaker 4: I used to watch those epic 49ers Rams back and
[1:00:17] Speaker 4: forth when, you know, Kyle Shanahan wasn't just dominating that
[1:00:20] Speaker 4: entire series in a one-sided fashion. When they started to
[1:00:24] Speaker 4: really go blow for blow, it would always happen where
[1:00:26] Speaker 4: it would be like, okay, you get two and then
[1:00:28] Speaker 4: I get the next one. Then I get the next
[1:00:30] Speaker 4: two and then you get the next one. So I
[1:00:31] Speaker 4: sort of went with that a little bit more rhythmically
[1:00:33] Speaker 4: for how I think this is going to go. And
[1:00:35] Speaker 4: I actually, I just, The Eagles roster is so good.
[1:00:39] Speaker 4: I just don't... I know there's a lot of uncertainty,
[1:00:41] Speaker 4: but even when the Eagles completely hit a wall and
[1:00:46] Speaker 4: were creaking to their 10-win season and that finish after
[1:00:49] Speaker 4: their Super Bowl hangover, they still... were the Eagles. You know,
[1:00:53] Speaker 4: they still were like one of the best rosters we've
[1:00:56] Speaker 4: seen in, in modern football. And I just think this is,
[1:01:00] Speaker 4: this is the third, but in my opinion right now,
[1:01:01] Speaker 4: this is the third best team in football.
[1:01:03] Speaker 1: Who? The Eagles. So how are they the biggest letdown team?
[1:01:06] Speaker 4: No, no, they're not. The 49ers are for me. I agree.
[1:01:08] Speaker 4: I agree with you. I'm saying I have the Eagles
[1:01:09] Speaker 4: and the lions also in the playoff.
[1:01:11] Speaker 2: Okay.
[1:01:11] Speaker 4: Yeah.
[1:01:12] Speaker 1: Wildcards. Yeah.
[1:01:12] Speaker 2: Got it. I got confused.
[1:01:14] Speaker 1: No, the 40, I'm with you.
[1:01:15] Speaker 4: The bucks and the 49ers are my, are my letdown teams.
[1:01:18] Speaker 1: You went multiple.
[1:01:19] Speaker 4: Well, I just have enough disappointment to go.
[1:01:21] Speaker 1: Because at some point, Eric, future Eric, looking great, by
[1:01:26] Speaker 1: the way. I think the haircut makes a lot of sense.
[1:01:30] Speaker 1: I like you showing off the leg tats more often
[1:01:32] Speaker 1: in the office under NFL media leadership. Some great leg
[1:01:37] Speaker 1: tats that you just don't see out of Eric enough.
[1:01:40] Speaker 1: He's getting uncomfortable. But I think for the interest of
[1:01:43] Speaker 1: future Eric, who I'm speaking to, you have to pick
[1:01:45] Speaker 1: one team for the tiebreaker. The Bucs.
[1:01:47] Speaker 2: Okay.
[1:01:47] Speaker 4: Yeah.
[1:01:47] Speaker 1: All right.
[1:01:48] Speaker 3: So my wild card race essentially comes down to those
[1:01:51] Speaker 3: last couple of weeks. And the biggest reason that I
[1:01:56] Speaker 3: have the 49ers in and the Eagles out.
[1:01:57] Speaker 1: Yeah.
[1:01:58] Speaker 2: 49ers play host to the Eagles on January 3rd.
[1:02:02] Speaker 4: And. That's so much more work than I did.
[1:02:04] Speaker 2: No, I.
[1:02:05] Speaker 1: Some people are calling this the greatest wildcard race of
[1:02:08] Speaker 1: all time. Everyone goes 11 and 6. And what a
[1:02:11] Speaker 1: win for Roger Goodell and all of us down the stretch.
[1:02:15] Speaker 3: But that's why it could be a horrible situation for
[1:02:17] Speaker 3: either the 49ers fans, the Eagles fans, or the Packers fans,
[1:02:20] Speaker 3: or the Bears, right? Where... Everybody's going to be in
[1:02:23] Speaker 3: that range in the final three weeks. They're incredible weeks,
[1:02:26] Speaker 3: despite I can't carry the shield. I will protect it.
[1:02:30] Speaker 3: It's great football down the stretch, exciting games. And I
[1:02:35] Speaker 3: think the 49ers get in.
[1:02:36] Speaker 1: As long as you're here in the Chris Wesleyan podcast
[1:02:39] Speaker 1: studio or over your left shoulder, not pictured as a
[1:02:43] Speaker 1: big shield. Right there in the logo in NFL Daily
[1:02:49] Speaker 1: is kind of a, A blacked out shield.
[1:02:51] Speaker 3: The bots original programming is at its core.
[1:02:54] Speaker 1: I work for the NFL. Please send me to Japan
[1:02:57] Speaker 1: next year, Roger. It's all I've ever wanted for the game.
[1:03:01] Speaker 1: Don't know if you saw that. They now voiced it
[1:03:04] Speaker 1: publicly that they're looking at Tokyo for a game possibly
[1:03:08] Speaker 1: next year. That's exciting. Let's take a break where we
[1:03:12] Speaker 1: decide the most important thing. factors of the entire 2026
[1:03:17] Speaker 1: season the super bowl champion the conference title game participants
[1:03:22] Speaker 1: and most importantly who has the best vibes back on
[1:03:36] Speaker 1: what us weekly is calling the most important nfl daily
[1:03:40] Speaker 1: episode episode ever recorded we're doing great Late night at
[1:03:48] Speaker 1: the BTS show. Let me tell you.
[1:03:50] Speaker 4: Nice.
[1:03:50] Speaker 1: It was fun. Chaperoning my wife.
[1:03:55] Speaker 2: Ow!
[1:03:56] Speaker 1: There might have been more just pure happiness in SoFi
[1:03:59] Speaker 1: Stadium than like when the Rams won the Super Bowl.
[1:04:02] Speaker 1: It was just a lot of nice people enjoying a
[1:04:04] Speaker 1: nice time.
[1:04:05] Speaker 2: I had fun.
[1:04:08] Speaker 1: Such good vibes in this podcast studio when the three
[1:04:11] Speaker 1: of us get together that we give the floor to
[1:04:16] Speaker 1: our friend Jordan Rodrigue. for explaining whatever is the Vibes
[1:04:20] Speaker 1: Award and awarding one of them.
[1:04:22] Speaker 4: Yeah, you couldn't choose this award based on any data
[1:04:27] Speaker 4: off of any predictions or, you know, line projections or
[1:04:32] Speaker 4: desert projections. It could only, you could only choose whoever
[1:04:36] Speaker 4: or however you wanted to crown this team based solely
[1:04:39] Speaker 4: on the fact on the vibes that you, that she
[1:04:42] Speaker 4: sort of felt around them all through training camp. For
[1:04:45] Speaker 4: that reason, I think that the most likely vibes Super
[1:04:48] Speaker 4: Bowl appearance team is probably the Buffalo Bills. The vibes
[1:04:52] Speaker 4: are so good over there right now. Everyone's having fun.
[1:04:56] Speaker 4: Everybody seems to have loosened the expectations a little bit.
[1:05:00] Speaker 4: And I really like the, like, again, the apparent chemistry
[1:05:03] Speaker 4: already between Josh Allen and DJ Moore now. Really, really
[1:05:06] Speaker 4: good vibes can go south in a hurry if you
[1:05:08] Speaker 4: start losing games. I hope they, you know, they keep
[1:05:11] Speaker 4: the good vibes going. But, man, out of training camp,
[1:05:13] Speaker 4: I don't know if there was a better vibes team
[1:05:15] Speaker 4: than the Buffalo Bills.
[1:05:16] Speaker 1: Sneaky good vibe offseason. It's been quiet there, relatively, for
[1:05:21] Speaker 1: a new head coach and an MVP quarterback.
[1:05:24] Speaker 4: Good vibes.
[1:05:25] Speaker 1: Which is a good sign. I think Dave Canales' vibes
[1:05:28] Speaker 1: could power, you know, the earth, what he's brought to Carolina.
[1:05:32] Speaker 1: So I'm afraid not picking them. to win the division,
[1:05:35] Speaker 1: but similar to yours, I do think, you know, taking
[1:05:39] Speaker 1: John Harbaugh out of that building after a little while
[1:05:42] Speaker 1: and putting in some younger head coaches, you got all
[1:05:45] Speaker 1: the players talking about all the attention to details. Sometimes
[1:05:51] Speaker 1: it's just time for a new start. It's time for
[1:05:53] Speaker 1: a new relationship. The last relationship worked out better than
[1:05:56] Speaker 1: you could have ever expected, but it's getting a little stale.
[1:05:59] Speaker 1: And now they got just kind of a new regime
[1:06:01] Speaker 1: and a place that needed it. I think the vibes
[1:06:04] Speaker 1: are going to power the Ravens, hopefully, to the moon.
[1:06:08] Speaker 3: If I'm picking purely based on vibes, it does also
[1:06:11] Speaker 3: happen to be a very good team. The Jacksonville Jaguars
[1:06:15] Speaker 3: win a vibe championship in a community in Duval where
[1:06:19] Speaker 3: they deserve the team to be this good. They've been
[1:06:21] Speaker 3: through some rough times. And purely based on... the season
[1:06:27] Speaker 3: that I think Travis Hunter can have smile wise, uh,
[1:06:30] Speaker 3: just an electric glowing smile. Uh, when he makes plays,
[1:06:34] Speaker 3: it's going to light up that building and it's going
[1:06:36] Speaker 3: to provide a lot of positive attention to the people
[1:06:38] Speaker 3: of Jacksonville and the vibes are going to be through
[1:06:40] Speaker 3: the roof.
[1:06:40] Speaker 1: What is the ad where all the NFL players are
[1:06:43] Speaker 1: practicing their, their celebrations? Have you seen that yet? It's
[1:06:47] Speaker 1: been in heavy, heavy rotation, but Travis Hunter is giving
[1:06:50] Speaker 1: his all. Like Josh Downs is there. There's different players.
[1:06:54] Speaker 1: But his vibes pops off the screen in a way
[1:06:58] Speaker 1: that no other player does.
[1:06:59] Speaker 4: He's just joy personified. That's one of the things that
[1:07:03] Speaker 4: is so magnetic about him as a player is he's
[1:07:06] Speaker 4: just joy. He just is. I can't wait. We get
[1:07:09] Speaker 4: him back.
[1:07:09] Speaker 1: We get him back on the field. You know what
[1:07:10] Speaker 1: would have been good podcasting is checking out the odds
[1:07:13] Speaker 1: for Travis Hunter defensive player of the year. That would
[1:07:16] Speaker 1: have been easy. Getting in the mix there. Okay, we've
[1:07:20] Speaker 1: done it. We've reached the portion of the program where
[1:07:24] Speaker 1: we start to pick the final four teams of the NFL.
[1:07:28] Speaker 1: This is where it's really on Eric to give us
[1:07:31] Speaker 1: some inspiring type music. Let's start in the AFC with
[1:07:38] Speaker 1: Patrick Claiborne.
[1:07:40] Speaker 3: In the AFC, I have the Jacksonville Jaguars traveling to
[1:07:46] Speaker 3: take on the Baltimore Ravens for a shot to go
[1:07:49] Speaker 3: to the Super Bowl.
[1:07:52] Speaker 1: Who's going to win this game, Patrick?
[1:07:54] Speaker 3: Liam Cohen and the Jacksonville Jaguars win the Super Bowl
[1:07:58] Speaker 3: in the AFC.
[1:07:59] Speaker 4: Go.
[1:08:02] Speaker 1: Can you explain what happens in this game? Specifically... In
[1:08:06] Speaker 1: the fourth quarter.
[1:08:07] Speaker 3: In the fourth quarter of this game, the Jacksonville Jaguars
[1:08:11] Speaker 3: are trailing by five.
[1:08:12] Speaker 1: Yes.
[1:08:13] Speaker 3: Trevor Lawrence has two dump-off passes to Basial Tootin to
[1:08:17] Speaker 3: get over on the Baltimore Ravens' side of the field
[1:08:21] Speaker 3: as the clock ticks down. Liam Cohen takes a timeout.
[1:08:24] Speaker 3: During that timeout, Travis Hunter comes onto the field. There's
[1:08:27] Speaker 3: a lot of discussion as he goes into motion. Ravens
[1:08:30] Speaker 3: defenders are pointing at each other, and then Trevor Lawrence
[1:08:33] Speaker 3: drops back and hits... parker washington for 47 yard touchdown
[1:08:37] Speaker 3: and the people of baltimore are very sad and i
[1:08:40] Speaker 3: am very sad and i will come in here and.
[1:08:42] Speaker 2: Podcast immediately after probably with.
[1:08:45] Speaker 1: Tears in my eyes oh we've been together for some
[1:08:49] Speaker 1: tough ravens moments that would be.
[1:08:53] Speaker 2: At least this time it wouldn't be somebody fumbling it'd
[1:08:54] Speaker 2: be a.
[1:08:55] Speaker 1: Great play and you have a an affection for the
[1:09:00] Speaker 1: Jaguars I would say and it sounds like Lamar Jackson
[1:09:04] Speaker 1: had a great season and a game in that scenario
[1:09:06] Speaker 1: maybe that would ease the pains no not at all
[1:09:09] Speaker 1: how about the fact that you predicted all of it
[1:09:12] Speaker 1: exactly correct and then we played it on the show
[1:09:15] Speaker 1: including the part where you said you come into the
[1:09:17] Speaker 1: show teary eyed And that winds up being the part
[1:09:20] Speaker 1: that's not true because we played it for you and
[1:09:22] Speaker 1: it made you happy.
[1:09:23] Speaker 2: It made me happy. Just being able to podcast with
[1:09:26] Speaker 2: you in this situation.
[1:09:27] Speaker 1: A lot of time-space continuum nonsense happening in this show.
[1:09:32] Speaker 1: I'll let Jordan tell us about her AFC championship next.
[1:09:37] Speaker 4: My AFC champions are the Houston Texans. And that's really
[1:09:42] Speaker 4: all I have to say about it. I.
[1:09:45] Speaker 1: had a feeling it was going this way.
[1:09:46] Speaker 4: You know, we've been fighting over them.
[1:09:48] Speaker 1: We've been staking our claims as early in the off
[1:09:51] Speaker 1: season as possible.
[1:09:52] Speaker 4: My argument is whoever went to go see them in
[1:09:55] Speaker 4: person gets to stake the claim.
[1:09:57] Speaker 1: How about whoever's flesh and blood has been rooting for them?
[1:10:00] Speaker 2: There it is.
[1:10:01] Speaker 4: Oh, I see. Hold the kid card.
[1:10:03] Speaker 1: How about the best podcast move is actually not splitting up,
[1:10:09] Speaker 1: is presenting a semi-united front against That the AFC South
[1:10:17] Speaker 1: is going to the Super Bowl regardless, by the way.
[1:10:19] Speaker 1: That doesn't happen too often. The Jaguars are going.
[1:10:22] Speaker 4: Justice for the AFC South.
[1:10:24] Speaker 1: And that two-thirds of this crew today have the Texans
[1:10:29] Speaker 1: go into the Super Bowl. And that, yes, we extend
[1:10:35] Speaker 1: a little bit of the pain for fictional Patrick in
[1:10:39] Speaker 1: this scenario with the Texans beating the Ravens in this
[1:10:42] Speaker 1: particular scenario. game, the AFC Championship. So the Ravens make
[1:10:47] Speaker 1: it close. And yet it's an entirely different game than
[1:10:51] Speaker 1: the one that he imagined. Unfortunately, it's a showcase for
[1:10:57] Speaker 1: one of the greatest defenses we've ever seen. And they
[1:11:01] Speaker 1: win 9-3. It's in Baltimore, so bad weather affected it.
[1:11:09] Speaker 1: And they were actually down 3-2 late in the game
[1:11:12] Speaker 1: when Woody Marks rips off a run that ends up
[1:11:17] Speaker 1: being the difference. You kick the extra point, you win
[1:11:19] Speaker 1: nine to three. So they got to nine in a very... Wow.
[1:11:23] Speaker 1: Did you have a conference championship game loser or did
[1:11:25] Speaker 1: I miss it?
[1:11:26] Speaker 4: No, I just, I read, I picked exactly how I
[1:11:28] Speaker 4: read it. Conference title game results.
[1:11:30] Speaker 1: Okay. Well, you gotta, the conference title game results. You
[1:11:35] Speaker 1: have both teams.
[1:11:36] Speaker 4: Sometimes you get a lot of heat for being the
[1:11:38] Speaker 4: robot on this show, Greg, but I think sometimes it's
[1:11:41] Speaker 4: me and my brain that does it.
[1:11:42] Speaker 1: That's, that's fair. If you need. A few extra minutes.
[1:11:47] Speaker 1: I could give you my NFC pick. We could get
[1:11:50] Speaker 1: into the NFC picks and you could eventually get your
[1:11:53] Speaker 1: AFC runner up when you do your NFC pick.
[1:11:56] Speaker 4: No, I think it'll be Texans over Ravens.
[1:11:58] Speaker 1: Wow. Okay.
[1:12:00] Speaker 2: Simpatico.
[1:12:01] Speaker 1: Right now.
[1:12:02] Speaker 2: Identical AFC picks.
[1:12:04] Speaker 1: We live or die together.
[1:12:07] Speaker 4: This... This is how I keep getting invited back to NFL.
[1:12:11] Speaker 1: No, this is going to be good. I like that
[1:12:15] Speaker 1: we're going to be on the same side here. Let's
[1:12:17] Speaker 1: start the NFC with Patrick as well, because this will
[1:12:22] Speaker 1: give Jordan time to think of a NFC type of game.
[1:12:26] Speaker 3: Oddly enough, with the way that I had the division
[1:12:28] Speaker 3: shaking out, it's a rematch between the Rams and the
[1:12:31] Speaker 3: Carolina Panthers.
[1:12:33] Speaker 2: No, not in the championship.
[1:12:35] Speaker 1: To start things off.
[1:12:38] Speaker 3: The San Francisco 49ers getting a win over the Seahawks
[1:12:41] Speaker 3: in the divisional round. So it's 49ers losing to the
[1:12:45] Speaker 3: Dallas Cowboys, the Rams beating Minnesota Vikings in an NFC
[1:12:48] Speaker 3: championship game.
[1:12:49] Speaker 2: It is Rams, Cowboys, Rams go to the Super Bowl.
[1:12:52] Speaker 1: Wow. I like that. And because you are so good
[1:12:56] Speaker 1: at reading off what was clearly not improvised earlier and
[1:13:00] Speaker 1: what happens in this game. I actually want to know
[1:13:02] Speaker 1: what happens in the third quarter of this game. In
[1:13:05] Speaker 1: the third quarter of the Rams Cowboys NFC championship.
[1:13:09] Speaker 2: Is this close?
[1:13:09] Speaker 1: What's happening?
[1:13:10] Speaker 3: Yeah, no, because it's in Dallas as they won the
[1:13:13] Speaker 3: NFC East. And the third quarter is really where the
[1:13:15] Speaker 3: folks at AT & T Stadium start to believe.
[1:13:18] Speaker 1: Oh, it's a home game.
[1:13:19] Speaker 2: Yeah, it's a home game.
[1:13:21] Speaker 3: There's a big George Pickens catch, oddly enough, down the
[1:13:23] Speaker 3: left side of the sideline where it's not in Green Bay,
[1:13:26] Speaker 3: but where Dez actually caught the ball. George Pickens makes
[1:13:29] Speaker 3: a similar play, reaches around Trent McDuffie. And it's a
[1:13:34] Speaker 3: touchdown for the Dallas Cowboys. They go up by four
[1:13:37] Speaker 3: at the end of the third. The fourth quarter is
[1:13:39] Speaker 3: where Miles Garrett and Matthew Stafford take over and the
[1:13:42] Speaker 3: Rams are going back to the Super Bowl.
[1:13:44] Speaker 1: I love that. I love the story. I have the
[1:13:49] Speaker 1: Rams over the Seahawks. I did not want to get
[1:13:53] Speaker 1: it twisted. I wanted to imagine a world that I
[1:13:56] Speaker 1: want to live in where the Seahawks and the Rams
[1:14:00] Speaker 1: become a little bit like the 49ers and the Cowboys
[1:14:04] Speaker 1: back in the 90s, where for a certain stretch, they
[1:14:06] Speaker 1: really were the two best teams, that we had these
[1:14:10] Speaker 1: superpower teams that were different and loading up and trying
[1:14:13] Speaker 1: to beat each other, and it's all about each other,
[1:14:16] Speaker 1: and that for the second straight season, a team from
[1:14:19] Speaker 1: that division gets out of the wild card, wins a
[1:14:22] Speaker 1: couple road games. The problem is this time it's played
[1:14:25] Speaker 1: in Los Angeles. The Rams are at home, and they
[1:14:29] Speaker 1: do get the win. They get the Seahawks back. in
[1:14:31] Speaker 1: the conference championship.
[1:14:33] Speaker 4: I love, I love that in terms of the drama
[1:14:36] Speaker 4: between the two teams, because these two teams are, are
[1:14:40] Speaker 4: such heavyweights. And I think. All of their focus this
[1:14:43] Speaker 4: offseason on each other makes either of these two teams
[1:14:47] Speaker 4: just prime for the takedown by the Philadelphia Eagles.
[1:14:51] Speaker 2: Wow.
[1:14:51] Speaker 4: The original thorn in the Rams side over the 2023
[1:14:56] Speaker 4: and 2024. And even at times.
[1:14:58] Speaker 1: It's still season.
[1:14:59] Speaker 4: Didn't beat them last year either. 2025 season. So I
[1:15:03] Speaker 4: have the Rams over the Eagles. Finally, finally getting back.
[1:15:08] Speaker 1: Oh, you had me excited. All of that.
[1:15:11] Speaker 4: Now, that's the thing is, any one of those three teams,
[1:15:14] Speaker 4: to me, because of how well they play each other
[1:15:17] Speaker 4: and how intense those games are, this is so fun.
[1:15:20] Speaker 4: It's like, to me, it's those guys and then everybody else.
[1:15:23] Speaker 2: So, it.
[1:15:25] Speaker 1: Was my fault. I don't think you intentionally okie-doked me there.
[1:15:28] Speaker 1: I thought you were stunning me with an Eagles going
[1:15:30] Speaker 1: to the Super Bowl, but it was the big upset.
[1:15:32] Speaker 1: They get past the Seahawks.
[1:15:33] Speaker 4: No, you had too much faith in me there.
[1:15:34] Speaker 1: Yeah, that was like, that would have been surprising. You
[1:15:37] Speaker 1: have the Rams in. I have the Rams in. We
[1:15:40] Speaker 1: have the exact same Super Bowl right now, again.
[1:15:42] Speaker 4: We might have the same winner, too.
[1:15:44] Speaker 1: We are united. Patrick, who are you putting your belief by?
[1:15:52] Speaker 1: And this is an important part of the scoring system. Remember,
[1:15:55] Speaker 1: you get a total of four points if you get
[1:15:57] Speaker 1: the Super Bowl champion right. If you had this Super
[1:15:59] Speaker 1: Bowl result right, each one of these teams already would
[1:16:01] Speaker 1: have earned you three points. You'd be in great position.
[1:16:04] Speaker 2: Would be, hypothetically.
[1:16:06] Speaker 4: Who?
[1:16:07] Speaker 1: Patrick Claiborne's. people bowl championship this is really the end
[1:16:11] Speaker 1: of the Patrick Claiborne offseason the next time you're on
[1:16:13] Speaker 1: the show like we're talking season yes.
[1:16:17] Speaker 3: The season that leads up to this where there's so
[1:16:19] Speaker 3: much buildup and there's disappointment on the AFC side as
[1:16:22] Speaker 3: the Ravens can't get their disappointment for the Cowboys and
[1:16:25] Speaker 3: disappointment for the Jacksonville Jaguars overwhelming Super Bowl favorite Los
[1:16:30] Speaker 3: Angeles sorry.
[1:16:32] Speaker 1: Everybody I wanted a world where for some reason Liam
[1:16:37] Speaker 1: Cohen was like leaving for Kentucky at the wrong time
[1:16:40] Speaker 1: was like a huge story. I guess it would be
[1:16:43] Speaker 1: leading into that Super Bowl regardless, but that it was
[1:16:48] Speaker 1: the pupil beating the mentor in a big spot. Man,
[1:16:50] Speaker 1: that would hurt Sean McVay if he lost to Liam Cohen,
[1:16:52] Speaker 1: but instead it's Sean McVay's second Super Bowl title. I mean,
[1:16:56] Speaker 1: they've taken the steps here. They lost in the wildcard round.
[1:17:00] Speaker 1: They lost in the divisional round. They lost in the
[1:17:04] Speaker 1: conference championship game in order. But you know what that means, Jordan?
[1:17:10] Speaker 1: They're due to lose in the freaking Super Bowl. They're
[1:17:12] Speaker 1: due to lose in another one of the greatest defensive
[1:17:15] Speaker 1: performances that we've ever seen by the Super Bowl champion, Houston, Texas.
[1:17:22] Speaker 1: That's right, people. Going with my heart, going with my head,
[1:17:28] Speaker 1: going with a world in which the Rams make every...
[1:17:33] Speaker 1: prediction happen until the very end the moment uh that
[1:17:38] Speaker 1: they didn't and that this pass rush and that this
[1:17:41] Speaker 1: defense ultimately keyed and i'm sorry to do this to
[1:17:44] Speaker 1: kyron williams by a forced fumble returned by aziz al-shayer
[1:17:52] Speaker 1: is the difference in a 16 to 13 super bowl victory.
[1:17:56] Speaker 4: 16 to 13.
[1:17:58] Speaker 1: That's high scoring. Are we going in all the way together?
[1:18:03] Speaker 4: You already knew who I was going to pick. I
[1:18:06] Speaker 4: told you who my Super Bowl pick was.
[1:18:07] Speaker 1: I didn't know that. I didn't know who your winner
[1:18:09] Speaker 1: was necessarily.
[1:18:10] Speaker 4: The Houston Texans are my Super Bowl.
[1:18:12] Speaker 1: Wow!
[1:18:13] Speaker 4: They were also my Super Bowl pick last year, to
[1:18:15] Speaker 4: state that for the record, too.
[1:18:17] Speaker 1: Well, that was a bad pick last year.
[1:18:18] Speaker 4: That was a bad pick last year by me. But
[1:18:20] Speaker 4: the Houston Texans, to me, again, if their offense can
[1:18:26] Speaker 4: get to... top 12 top 15 this defense is one
[1:18:32] Speaker 4: of the most special groups I have ever seen on
[1:18:37] Speaker 4: a football field and has a chance to be one
[1:18:40] Speaker 4: of the most historically special groups on a football field
[1:18:44] Speaker 4: this season and and they are together they're also a
[1:18:48] Speaker 4: vibes pick for me in the same way as you
[1:18:50] Speaker 4: feel the Seahawks really being together and really felt that
[1:18:53] Speaker 4: all year last year you feel that from this Houston
[1:18:57] Speaker 4: Texans team and I think I think it'll be lower
[1:19:00] Speaker 4: scoring that I did not pick a score because, you know,
[1:19:03] Speaker 4: I'm still me at the end of the day. But
[1:19:06] Speaker 4: I think it'll be Texans over Rams. I think it'll
[1:19:09] Speaker 4: be incredibly low scoring. I think that for the real,
[1:19:13] Speaker 4: you know, in the weeds, football insane people, like it's
[1:19:18] Speaker 4: going to be just glory for all of us sitting
[1:19:20] Speaker 4: here to watch something like this. It's going to be fun.
[1:19:26] Speaker 1: Love that. And before anyone listening is like, oh, the media,
[1:19:29] Speaker 1: they're so high on the Texans. Why do you like
[1:19:31] Speaker 1: the Texans so much? It just happens to be the
[1:19:33] Speaker 1: two of the three of us in this studio. I mean, look,
[1:19:36] Speaker 1: if you wanted to go and.
[1:19:38] Speaker 4: I don't think they're the favorite.
[1:19:40] Speaker 2: It's three of them. I have them winning 12 games.
[1:19:44] Speaker 4: Who hasn't?
[1:19:45] Speaker 1: They are the number nine favorite, tied between nine and
[1:19:51] Speaker 1: 12 favorite. There are eight teams ahead of them. In
[1:19:54] Speaker 1: the desert, the Rams, Bills, Ravens, Seahawks, Chiefs, Chargers, Patriots, Eagles,
[1:19:59] Speaker 1: and then it's a four-way tie between the 49ers, Lions, Texans,
[1:20:02] Speaker 1: and Packers. So this is not a consensus pick, although
[1:20:04] Speaker 1: two people out of 19 at NFL.com did pick the
[1:20:08] Speaker 1: Texans to win the Super Bowl. The most people picked
[1:20:11] Speaker 1: the Rams with the Bills next on that list. What
[1:20:16] Speaker 1: a time it's been. Play that music. We have reached
[1:20:23] Speaker 1: the end of what I consider the off-season road.
[1:20:26] Speaker 2: What contributions.
[1:20:27] Speaker 1: Thank you, Jordan. Thank you for joining me. We are
[1:20:32] Speaker 1: going to live and die together. No, you have to
[1:20:34] Speaker 1: do this. You like the Texans, too. You know, we
[1:20:36] Speaker 1: like you.
[1:20:36] Speaker 3: Yeah.
[1:20:37] Speaker 1: You like the AFC South.
[1:20:39] Speaker 2: I do. I think it's a good division. Two teams
[1:20:42] Speaker 2: are really good.
[1:20:43] Speaker 1: Can we get some teams into the Super Bowl that
[1:20:45] Speaker 1: have never been there before? Like the Jaguars, like the Texans.
[1:20:51] Speaker 1: get an AFC South champion. It's been a while since
[1:20:53] Speaker 1: that Colts team. The offseason was fun, but you know
[1:20:58] Speaker 1: what's more fun?
[1:20:59] Speaker 2: The season.
[1:21:01] Speaker 1: On Monday, we will be previewing for the first time
[1:21:04] Speaker 1: an actual NFL game. Jordan and I will talk about
[1:21:09] Speaker 1: the kickoff game between the Seahawks and the Patriots, and
[1:21:11] Speaker 1: we'll talk about the Melbourne game. between the 49ers and
[1:21:14] Speaker 1: the Rams. That's coming Monday. We'll get into our regular
[1:21:17] Speaker 1: season programming next week. The previews, the recaps, all of it.
[1:21:21] Speaker 1: You cannot wait to hear that.
