[0:31] Speaker 2: That is the cross that we bear. And I don't
[0:33] Speaker 2: believe you that there's nothing else that you'd rather be. Actually,
[0:35] Speaker 2: I do know, Sico, you're a sicko. We're all sick of.
[0:38] Speaker 1: I love this time of year because I do love
[0:40] Speaker 1: just seeing the machinations of these teams getting put together.
[0:45] Speaker 1: And there's always stuff in this first week of training
[0:47] Speaker 1: camp that surprise you. So it's Sunday Night Football. We're
[0:51] Speaker 1: doing it five straight weeks. So thank you to everyone

[1:13] Speaker 1: So we're gonna hit the sixteen NFC teams tonight and
[1:16] Speaker 1: Patrick Claybahn and I are going to hit the sixteen
[1:19] Speaker 1: AFC teams on Monday. And obviously much love to most
[1:23] Speaker 1: people are listening to us in their ear. We love
[1:26] Speaker 1: the podcast. I'm a podcast og. That's what I go with.
[1:28] Speaker 1: But let's start with Minnesota, and let's start about the
[1:32] Speaker 1: quarterback battle with the Vikings, and we'll go NFC North first,
[1:37] Speaker 1: NFC West next. I thought those had the best stories.
[1:39] Speaker 1: Kyler Murray started to make his move. We shouldn't be
[1:42] Speaker 1: surprised about this shook, but I did think it was interesting.
[1:45] Speaker 1: The first few days of camp, the reports were a
[1:48] Speaker 1: didn't look great. JJ McCarthy actually, you know, maybe looked
[1:51] Speaker 1: a little better, but Kyler Murray's getting way more first
[1:54] Speaker 1: team reps. And then on Saturday, Murray reportedly looked awesome.
[1:59] Speaker 1: He's been more willing to push the ball down the field.
[2:01] Speaker 1: And one thing I really found interesting were the notes
[2:04] Speaker 1: that they're running a lot of pistol and shotgun when
[2:07] Speaker 1: Kyler Murray's on the field, and when JJ McCarthy's on
[2:11] Speaker 1: the field, it's just kind of the same old Vikings offense,
[2:13] Speaker 1: which means to me, Kevin O'Connell's already planning for this
[2:17] Speaker 1: thing to be over. He's trying to make a hybrid
[2:20] Speaker 1: Kevin O'Connell Kyler Murray offense, something that I find very intriguing.
[2:25] Speaker 2: Yeah, this is not going to be one of those
[2:26] Speaker 2: instances in which a team spends a Day three pick
[2:28] Speaker 2: on a guy they're like, well, we'll make a package
[2:29] Speaker 2: for him, you know, we'll make up a package for
[2:32] Speaker 2: Jalen Milroe in Seattle and or we'll make a package
[2:34] Speaker 2: for Taylor Green and Cleveland. No, this is we're going
[2:36] Speaker 2: to mold our offense around the strengths of Kyler Murray
[2:38] Speaker 2: and add some wrinkles that we've never seen or haven't
[2:41] Speaker 2: seen from the Kevin O'Connell Vikings in his time there.
[2:44] Speaker 2: Because we now have a quarterback suited and capable of
[2:47] Speaker 2: doing those things. That's exciting, but none of us really
[2:50] Speaker 2: surprises me because we as you and I both agree,
[2:53] Speaker 2: and we've agreed for a while now, this is Kyler's job,
[2:55] Speaker 2: and it's going to be Kyler's job.
[2:57] Speaker 1: And yet like Kyler does have to go out there
[2:59] Speaker 1: and do it. It is interesting to like watch how
[3:02] Speaker 1: it all goes down. And after the first few days
[3:04] Speaker 1: I was like, Okay, they actually are letting this be
[3:06] Speaker 1: a real battle. But the difference on Saturday was apparently stark,
[3:09] Speaker 1: and if Kyler stacks a few days like that, I
[3:13] Speaker 1: think his willingness to go down the field is accuracy
[3:15] Speaker 1: down the field and and certainly intermedia is gonna be
[3:17] Speaker 1: what separates him from JJ McCarthy. I love hearing from
[3:22] Speaker 1: Purple Daily, and a lot of these reports they're from
[3:24] Speaker 1: the people on the ground, so I'll try to cite
[3:26] Speaker 1: where they're coming from when possible. And Purple Daily is
[3:29] Speaker 1: a podcast I listened to, and they happen to note
[3:32] Speaker 1: that like unless they're just pretending for the cameras, Kyler Murray,
[3:35] Speaker 1: JJ McCarthy, they don't say one word to each other
[3:38] Speaker 1: when they're out on the field, and they're very different.
[3:42] Speaker 1: Like JJ hits a throw down the field. It's not
[3:43] Speaker 1: like JJ hasn't hit some passes, although on Saturday reportedly
[3:46] Speaker 1: he was very indecisive and just did not look good.
[3:49] Speaker 1: Had a really bad day when Kyler was working.
[3:51] Speaker 3: Like.
[3:53] Speaker 1: When he hits a big pass, like he's running, he's
[3:55] Speaker 1: high five in everyone. He's doing the JJ McCarthy stuff,
[3:58] Speaker 1: Whereas Kyler, like, he's just not that guy and he's
[4:01] Speaker 1: not going to pretend to be that guy. I don't
[4:02] Speaker 1: think it matters if he's gotten Jordan Addison in, Justin
[4:06] Speaker 1: Jefferson and the whole group, Juwan Jennings there down the field.
[4:10] Speaker 2: Yeah, That's what was kind of funny and stuck out
[4:12] Speaker 2: to me from our Back Together weekend coverage on Saturday,
[4:15] Speaker 2: as I'm sitting here monitoring and Stacy Dale's is in Egan, Minnesota,
[4:18] Speaker 2: you know, with Vikings, and one of the things that
[4:20] Speaker 2: she noted was that Kyler's quiet, and that's exactly who
[4:23] Speaker 2: Kyler has always been. He's not a raw, raw guy,
[4:26] Speaker 2: but he's gonna, you know, make a difference on the
[4:28] Speaker 2: field with his play. So you could twist it or
[4:31] Speaker 2: at least kind of pitch it as, oh, well, he's
[4:32] Speaker 2: just a professional. He's just doing what he knows he's
[4:34] Speaker 2: supposed to do. That's just who he's always been. And
[4:37] Speaker 2: I really don't think that that part is going to
[4:39] Speaker 2: matter as much as long as he can be successful
[4:41] Speaker 2: on the field, which I think he will be.
[4:42] Speaker 1: Love everyone that's watching right now, Let's love Justin Jefferson,
[4:46] Speaker 1: who has become pretty expert over the last few years
[4:49] Speaker 1: answering difficult questions of like which quarterback you know does
[4:53] Speaker 1: he like playing with?
[4:55] Speaker 4: And right now we just don't know who's the number
[4:57] Speaker 4: one guy. So it's just all about having communication and
[5:01] Speaker 4: connection with both of the guys until further notice. So
[5:04] Speaker 4: coming out here and just getting work with both of them,
[5:06] Speaker 4: talking to both of them, making sure you know, we
[5:10] Speaker 4: all understand and being on that same page. So yeah,
[5:14] Speaker 4: it's a lot of connection talking and just building on that.
[5:19] Speaker 1: He's too smart to say anything that's going to get
[5:21] Speaker 1: him in trouble, and just just something we're watching there.
[5:23] Speaker 1: I'm excited to see this is going but the pistol
[5:25] Speaker 1: and Kevin O'Connell and how they're going to use the
[5:27] Speaker 1: running game, like very intrigued by that. I think their
[5:29] Speaker 1: running game could be better because Christian Darisaw, their left tackle,
[5:32] Speaker 1: reportedly looks way healthier this year. He is all Pro
[5:36] Speaker 1: upside and has not been himself for two years in
[5:39] Speaker 1: a row, got hurt, missed most of twenty twenty four
[5:41] Speaker 1: and even at this time last year, like was just
[5:43] Speaker 1: a different guy. Was clear he wasn't one hundred percent
[5:46] Speaker 1: missed some of last season and wasn't great when he
[5:48] Speaker 1: was out there. So that's great news for them, and
[5:50] Speaker 1: I think that's really going to help Kyler Murray, assuming
[5:52] Speaker 1: he's the quarterback.
[5:53] Speaker 5: Got some other little things.
[5:54] Speaker 1: I noticed There was a package that they had out
[5:57] Speaker 1: there at practice where Caleb Banks their first round pick,
[6:00] Speaker 1: and Dominique Orange, Big Citrus, and then rookie Kenny gold
[6:04] Speaker 1: Day all in one package as rookies, an intriguing like
[6:08] Speaker 1: young group. Brian Flores usually doesn't like to play rookies,
[6:12] Speaker 1: but I think gold Day, especially at linebacker, is going
[6:14] Speaker 1: to play. Some talk that Ivan Pace might not even
[6:17] Speaker 1: make this team right now, partly because of what Jake
[6:19] Speaker 1: gold Day could do, but interesting kind of the youth
[6:21] Speaker 1: movement there at a pretty veteran Leyden defense, well, I
[6:26] Speaker 1: think that.
[6:27] Speaker 2: You know, when they selected Golday in the draft, I thought, God,
[6:30] Speaker 2: that's perfect because he is one of those more athletic
[6:32] Speaker 2: type of linebackers that will work perfectly in this sub
[6:35] Speaker 2: package dominated world that we live in now. But also
[6:37] Speaker 2: the exotic defense for Brian Flores. So to see them,
[6:40] Speaker 2: you know, getting a lot of their rookies out there
[6:41] Speaker 2: in the same package. I think that could be a
[6:43] Speaker 2: precursor of what's to come this year. Is they you know,
[6:46] Speaker 2: spent the offseason trying to get deeper, and you know
[6:48] Speaker 2: they were limited cap wise, So I'm excited about what
[6:51] Speaker 2: the potential is for that. And I'd like the fact
[6:54] Speaker 2: that you brought up Christian Darris on the idea of
[6:56] Speaker 2: elevating the running game because you're creating more space, right.
[6:58] Speaker 2: But at the same time, I think that the pis
[7:00] Speaker 2: involvement is really important here because think about the Ravens
[7:03] Speaker 2: when they were with Greg Roman back in the day
[7:05] Speaker 2: and Lamar Jackson's mobility. Kyler is not quite the same
[7:07] Speaker 2: type of guy, but it was hard to predict where
[7:09] Speaker 2: they were going to attack you on the ground. You
[7:10] Speaker 2: could do the same thing with Kyler and the pistol
[7:12] Speaker 2: in this offense and that running back room, which is
[7:14] Speaker 2: headlined of course by the return of Aaron Jones, but
[7:16] Speaker 2: you also have Jordan Mason, Demon Claiborne, Xavier Scott. I
[7:19] Speaker 2: don't care that they're not necessarily the biggest names, because
[7:21] Speaker 2: if they're unpredictable, it's gonna be that much harder to defend.
[7:24] Speaker 5: So I'm up. I'm high on the Vikings.
[7:25] Speaker 1: Velvet Thunder ninety four asked would Nick Shook beat Kyler
[7:28] Speaker 1: Murray at Matten Shook famously a gamer kind of works
[7:31] Speaker 1: for Matten.
[7:32] Speaker 5: I'm gonna say yes, Yeah, you're going to be confident.
[7:35] Speaker 1: I also like the question asking if Koc can't make
[7:40] Speaker 1: it work with Kyler, like how many shots as it
[7:42] Speaker 1: a quarterback will he realistically get? So it's a good question.
[7:46] Speaker 1: I think there's a world where this season goes horribly wrong,
[7:49] Speaker 1: where Kevin O'Connell doesn't look great, But I think understandably
[7:52] Speaker 1: everyone in Minnesota is a big Kevin O'Connell's supporter, even
[7:55] Speaker 1: though I think criticism would get there if for some
[7:58] Speaker 1: reason they won six or seven games in a tough division.
[8:00] Speaker 1: I think he has a longer rope than that. So
[8:03] Speaker 1: my answer would be one more quarterback after this, let's
[8:06] Speaker 1: go to the Bears. We got to pick it up.
[8:08] Speaker 1: There's a three way battle there at left tackle. It's
[8:11] Speaker 1: Braxton Jones, it's Jedrick Wills, it's a Keeme a Magadaje
[8:17] Speaker 1: like who's in the mix too, So three way battle
[8:20] Speaker 1: there that could possibly be their left tackle. I've noted
[8:23] Speaker 1: that Roma Dunze looks healthy at camp. Everyone watching says
[8:27] Speaker 1: his foot looks great. That is huge news for them.
[8:30] Speaker 1: It's a lot of Khalif Raymond, who came from the
[8:32] Speaker 1: Detroit Lions with the starters, which to me is no surprise,
[8:35] Speaker 1: like I expect him to be their number three receiver.
[8:38] Speaker 6: They also have a rookie Xavion Thomas who is in
[8:41] Speaker 6: the mix.
[8:41] Speaker 1: Kyle Manungai is their backup running back and is out
[8:44] Speaker 1: right now with an injury. Doesn't seem like it's anything serious,
[8:46] Speaker 1: but he's been out for three straight days, and they're
[8:49] Speaker 1: really emphasizing the two minute drill. They noticed that they
[8:51] Speaker 1: were great at the end of games, but were horrible
[8:54] Speaker 1: in situations at the end of the first half. So
[8:57] Speaker 1: Ben Johnson has really been emphasizing that. Not a lot
[9:00] Speaker 1: of screaming headlines out of Chicago, which is good this
[9:03] Speaker 1: time of year. It means things are on track in general.
[9:06] Speaker 1: Maybe the thing that's most talked about with the Bears
[9:08] Speaker 1: is like, how are you going to handle the increased expectations.
[9:13] Speaker 1: Ben Johnson got a variation of that question this weekend,
[9:17] Speaker 1: but with Caleb.
[9:17] Speaker 7: I don't know if you saw this, but Liam Cohen
[9:20] Speaker 7: of the Jaguars said he it's very easy to motivate
[9:23] Speaker 7: his players because nobody ever talks about them.
[9:25] Speaker 5: All he ever hears about is Caleb Williams.
[9:27] Speaker 7: I'm curious what you think about another coach throwing his
[9:31] Speaker 7: name out there and whether you're dealing with the opposite
[9:33] Speaker 7: situation here of hammering to your guys not to believe
[9:37] Speaker 7: the hype.
[9:38] Speaker 6: Well, we're the number one regression candidates, so I think
[9:41] Speaker 6: we got plenty of motivation ourselves.
[9:44] Speaker 5: We talked about Caleb in the past.

[9:46] Speaker 6: Handling a lot of attention, so I'm not worried about that.

[11:00] Speaker 1: hurt again? Yes, that is one of the injuries at
[11:04] Speaker 1: Bears camp to keep an eye on. He has not
[11:06] Speaker 1: been out there at all. TJ Edwards, their linebacker, also
[11:10] Speaker 1: has not been out there. But to me, Kyler Gordon
[11:12] Speaker 1: is a bigger concern because he's just been hurt way
[11:16] Speaker 1: too often in his career. Let's go to the Lions,
[11:18] Speaker 1: where on Sunday they signed Devin White. I was like, man, okay,
[11:25] Speaker 1: is that a bad sign for the linebackers that they
[11:27] Speaker 1: have right now? They're starting, you know, middle linebacker, of course,
[11:31] Speaker 1: is Jack Campbell, who's been a great young player for them,
[11:34] Speaker 1: and they're gonna they got him locked up long term.
[11:37] Speaker 1: And then on the weak side it's Derek Barnes who's
[11:39] Speaker 1: not always been there, or Malcolm Rodriguez.
[11:41] Speaker 6: So now guys maybe playing a little out of position.
[11:44] Speaker 1: But it turns out I think this signing was more
[11:46] Speaker 1: about this fourth round rookie Jimmy Rolder, who has a
[11:49] Speaker 1: serious injury and I think is gonna miss a lot
[11:51] Speaker 1: of the season, and so they're given Devin White, the
[11:54] Speaker 1: old Super Bowl MVP candidate for the Bucks, a chance
[11:58] Speaker 1: over there just for a little bit depth a lot
[12:00] Speaker 1: of defensive questions I think for the Lions.
[12:03] Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, And this is a team that's learned the
[12:05] Speaker 2: importance of depth over the last few years. I think
[12:07] Speaker 2: it's kind of held them back and in their pursuit
[12:10] Speaker 2: of a Super Bowl. But I think this is also
[12:11] Speaker 2: just about trying to build out this linebacking corp post
[12:15] Speaker 2: and this is crazy Alexandeloni, who they lost in free agency, Like,
[12:19] Speaker 2: you gotta fill it with another veteran, did you know?
[12:20] Speaker 5: Greg?
[12:21] Speaker 2: And this kind of flew under my radar because he
[12:23] Speaker 2: played for the Raiders last year. Devin White finished third
[12:25] Speaker 2: in the NFL and tackles last year, played all seventeen games.
[12:29] Speaker 2: He had a terrible PFF grade, but he finished third
[12:31] Speaker 2: in the league in tackles.
[12:32] Speaker 5: Now there's that is.
[12:33] Speaker 1: Wild chose not to trust the tackle numbers. But Jamal
[12:36] Speaker 1: Adams Devin White still getting jobs out here in twenty
[12:39] Speaker 1: twenty six coming off that Raiders run that they had.
[12:43] Speaker 1: Other than that, I just like hearing Sam Laporte is
[12:45] Speaker 1: not just out there healthy, but he's out there making play,
[12:48] Speaker 1: So that's great. Jamir Gibbs is holding in, and our
[12:53] Speaker 1: insider Ian Rappaport said the talks for Jamir Gibbs's extension
[12:57] Speaker 1: not quite as active or close as Jon Robinson contract talk,
[13:01] Speaker 1: So not sure what that means, but I think these
[13:03] Speaker 1: two dudes are rightfully trying to reset the market and
[13:06] Speaker 1: it could be a while. And I am noting that
[13:08] Speaker 1: Sioni Vaki is splitting with Isaiah Pachecko, And yeah, if
[13:13] Speaker 1: you're in fantasy leagues. There aren't many running backs that
[13:17] Speaker 1: looked worse than to me. All respect to Isaiah Pachecko,
[13:21] Speaker 1: who's been better than I ever would have expected, but
[13:24] Speaker 1: he was not great last year. So if you're telling
[13:26] Speaker 1: me you had a young player got a little more
[13:28] Speaker 1: juice in his legs, like, wouldn't shock me if Sioni
[13:31] Speaker 1: Vaki is the guy to pair with Gibbs and like
[13:34] Speaker 1: Gibbs can only carry the ball so much like this
[13:36] Speaker 1: is gonna be a run heavy offense.
[13:37] Speaker 6: It's just something to watch there.
[13:39] Speaker 5: Yeah.
[13:39] Speaker 2: I don't mean to knock on Pacheco either, but I
[13:42] Speaker 2: vividly remember sitting at one of the chief Super Bowls
[13:45] Speaker 2: with a fellow you know around the NFL NFL dot
[13:48] Speaker 2: com writer Kevin Patra, talking about Pacheco's running style, and
[13:51] Speaker 2: we both looked at each other during that game. I
[13:52] Speaker 2: think this might have been Niner's Chiefs in Vegas, and
[13:55] Speaker 2: we're like, God, he's fun to watch, but he's not
[13:57] Speaker 2: gonna last long. So the idea of him not look
[13:59] Speaker 2: I think that there's a shorter shelf life on his
[14:01] Speaker 2: career because of his style of play. I would be
[14:06] Speaker 2: slightly worried about depth with the Lions. With that considered,
[14:09] Speaker 2: but Gibbs is going to get done eventually. It's got
[14:12] Speaker 2: to get done. He's one of the key parts of
[14:13] Speaker 2: his team. I'm not worried about these holdings. There's a
[14:16] Speaker 2: few happening around the league too. Lead two lead below
[14:18] Speaker 2: two for the Chargers is another one.
[14:20] Speaker 1: But yeah, depth is an issue, including at the edge
[14:23] Speaker 1: spot where Derek Moore, their rookie that they're county on
[14:25] Speaker 1: to do a lot, is getting evaluated for an injury
[14:27] Speaker 1: that was a Sunday injury. We're taping this Sunday evening,
[14:30] Speaker 1: so we don't know much about that. We'll see Greg
[14:33] Speaker 1: Dortch right now. Is their wide receiver for according to
[14:35] Speaker 1: people at practices like little thin there. And then we
[14:38] Speaker 1: have a question that ties in with something I wanted
[14:41] Speaker 1: to talk about Jamison Williams and just asking how important
[14:45] Speaker 1: he's going to be and Drew Petsking's offense. I think
[14:47] Speaker 1: like this is the year to take a big step
[14:50] Speaker 1: for Jamison Williams. He's gotten better each and every year.
[14:52] Speaker 1: And my answer to that question is massively important and
[14:56] Speaker 1: so far, the most consistent report for what it's worth, Chuck, No,
[15:00] Speaker 1: it's early, is that he has just been awesome at practice.
[15:04] Speaker 1: And he's a guy who's been more of a body
