[0:29] Speaker 1: Every team is practicing right now, and we're going to
[0:31] Speaker 1: get the people updated on everything that's happening elsewhere.
[0:34] Speaker 4: At its core, yes, the show is about giving people news.
[0:38] Speaker 2: It's true. I know a few.
[0:42] Speaker 1: Prominent people in the media who listen to this show
[0:46] Speaker 1: so that they can be updated on the news for
[0:49] Speaker 1: their shows. They know who they are, and I take
[0:51] Speaker 1: that as a compliment. But that's how serious we take it.
[0:54] Speaker 1: That's our responsibility. And yet we are going to start
[0:58] Speaker 1: with the Rams quickly. We're gonna get to a lot
[1:00] Speaker 1: of things. Are you Are you ready to just like
[1:02] Speaker 1: fire through like I'm ready forty items of it's gonna
[1:06] Speaker 1: make people smart.
[1:07] Speaker 3: And it's like a value deal.
[1:09] Speaker 1: Yes, But it will start with the Aaron Donald Rams situation,
[1:13] Speaker 1: which seems to becoming more serious as the Rams talk
[1:17] Speaker 1: more less. Need was on a lot of media on
[1:20] Speaker 1: Wednesday morning, was very open to the possibility and making
[1:25] Speaker 1: it sound like it could happen. Sean McVay was at
[1:29] Speaker 1: the podium with Miles Garrett Tuesday afternoon after Jordan and
[1:32] Speaker 1: I spoke, and he talked about eighty possibly returning as well.
[1:37] Speaker 3: Listen if he's interested.
[1:38] Speaker 5: You know, there is no question.
[1:40] Speaker 3: Here's what I say.
[1:40] Speaker 5: You talked to Aaron and you see what he's saying
[1:42] Speaker 5: about that. But here's what I would tell you guys
[1:45] Speaker 5: overall too is you know, Aaron's a guy that I
[1:48] Speaker 5: stay really close in touch with, and I know the
[1:51] Speaker 5: respect that he has for Miles. Talk to him about
[1:53] Speaker 5: the opportunity to be able to bring him on board.
[1:56] Speaker 5: If Aaron decides he wants to dust him off at
[1:58] Speaker 5: the age of thirty five, I bet you he could
[1:59] Speaker 5: still do it a pretty high clip.
[2:01] Speaker 1: This has gone from like a funny joke on social
[2:05] Speaker 1: to the way that the rams are talking about and
[2:07] Speaker 1: the way that Aaron Donald, by the way, is talking about.
[2:09] Speaker 2: I actually am starting to think this might happen.
[2:11] Speaker 4: Yeah, I think it's fun. It's fun to talk about.
[2:14] Speaker 4: Clearly they have a great relationship They've accomplished a lot
[2:17] Speaker 4: in Aaron Donald is one of the best players to
[2:19] Speaker 4: ever put on a football uniform. I would I'm leaning
[2:23] Speaker 4: towards not believing it. But I am a you know,
[2:26] Speaker 4: news curmudgeon that leads towards not believing a whole bunch
[2:29] Speaker 4: of them.
[2:29] Speaker 1: Here's a quote that Ada Aaron Donald gave Jordan Schultz.
[2:33] Speaker 1: I'm for sure flirting with the idea hell of an
[2:36] Speaker 1: opportunity with the Super Bowl and SOFI this year. If
[2:39] Speaker 1: I can find the fire, it's a possibility. Think if
[2:42] Speaker 1: it happened, it would maybe be you know, when I
[2:45] Speaker 1: come back halfway through the season, But man, that would
[2:48] Speaker 1: be cool.
[2:49] Speaker 3: Uh. Alternate headline. Yeah, Aaron Donald has not found fire.
[2:54] Speaker 2: Fair right, but he's flirting.
[2:56] Speaker 1: He's flirting with the opportunity like the Rams might be
[2:59] Speaker 1: flirting with the Super Bowl this year. I just thought
[3:02] Speaker 1: this back and forth between a reporter Miles Garrett and
[3:07] Speaker 1: Sean McVay was funny but also maybe instructive of how
[3:12] Speaker 1: things are going to be positioned this year when it
[3:14] Speaker 1: comes to the Rams.
[3:15] Speaker 6: Going from a work in progress with this Cleveland team,
[3:20] Speaker 6: it's been a work in progress for a while to
[3:21] Speaker 6: coming to this team that is the favorite to win
[3:24] Speaker 6: the Super Bowl, and anything less than that would be
[3:26] Speaker 6: a major disappointment.
[3:29] Speaker 3: I mean, every team's a work in progress.
[3:31] Speaker 2: That's how you feel.
[3:36] Speaker 1: I want to know who asked that question that did
[3:37] Speaker 1: feel a little bit not to be smirched, the local
[3:40] Speaker 1: news anchors or whatever kind of like, Hey, we only
[3:43] Speaker 1: show up to the Rams facility a handful of days
[3:45] Speaker 1: a year, but we're going to ask like a fiery question.
[3:49] Speaker 3: And again, I don't want to be presumptuous.
[3:51] Speaker 4: That sounded like a columnist question more than somebody's making
[3:54] Speaker 4: a daily grind picking up a DVC pro and bringing
[3:57] Speaker 4: it to the facility every single day. It's it is presumptuous.
[4:05] Speaker 4: There's a it's a long football season. Yes, I would
[4:08] Speaker 4: say the Rams are a very good football team who
[4:10] Speaker 4: just got the defensive Player of the year.
[4:12] Speaker 3: Yeah, and you can feel great about that.
[4:15] Speaker 4: But to say, you know, super Bowl or buzz like,
[4:17] Speaker 4: obviously they would like to win.
[4:18] Speaker 1: He said it would be a major disappointment if they
[4:21] Speaker 1: did not win the Super Bowl.
[4:23] Speaker 3: That's that's colinists speak. It's detached from reality.
[4:28] Speaker 1: Maybe you take one major like from our perspective, sure,
[4:31] Speaker 1: but I think Sean McVay might agree, like, I think
[4:35] Speaker 1: they're going to be majorly disappointed if they can't get
[4:38] Speaker 1: it done.
[4:39] Speaker 4: Sometimes teams, teams play on their heads, they call the
[4:42] Speaker 4: wrong defense like the Seattle Seahawks did, and Nicky Man
[4:45] Speaker 4: Worry makes a great play, right. I think a major
[4:47] Speaker 4: disappointment will be the Rams not playing up to their
[4:50] Speaker 4: standards and then they play poorly, and that's a disappointment.
[4:54] Speaker 1: The NFL season rarely has a real deal like favorite.
[4:58] Speaker 1: I think sports in general, it's always more interesting when
[5:02] Speaker 1: you have a great team entering a season. Sometimes usually
[5:06] Speaker 1: they're the defending champs, not in this case, like the
[5:08] Speaker 1: Thunder were to start this NBA season, they're not in
[5:11] Speaker 1: the finals. But I think it makes the season more
[5:14] Speaker 1: interesting to have kind of that high level Chiefs or
[5:17] Speaker 1: Patriots team that everyone's shooting for. It just happens to
[5:20] Speaker 1: be the Rams this year.
[5:21] Speaker 4: And you know, there's there's that frustration and that tiredness
[5:24] Speaker 4: that the Thunder kind of fell victim to. You know,
[5:27] Speaker 4: not to make it a full basketball thing, but you
[5:29] Speaker 4: know on the road, the Spurs had to go what
[5:32] Speaker 4: ten to fourteen in the fourth quarter sure to knock
[5:34] Speaker 4: off the champs and so it's now viewed right a
[5:37] Speaker 4: lot of people are saying, oh, it's a complete and
[5:39] Speaker 4: total disappointment.
[5:40] Speaker 1: Well, and have their second best player get hurt and
[5:42] Speaker 1: another key player. I get it.
[5:44] Speaker 3: Yeah, when the championships is hard, that's my unclem Okay.
[5:46] Speaker 1: So that's enough of the rams this week. Let's go
[5:49] Speaker 1: through some of the big contracts that have been signed,
[5:51] Speaker 1: including Drake London getting one hundred million dollars guaranteed four years,
[5:56] Speaker 1: one hundred and forty one million dollar extension. I've really
[6:00] Speaker 1: he loved watching his development. He is the ultimate better
[6:04] Speaker 1: than his numbers player to me because of the quarterback
[6:08] Speaker 1: situation that he's had over the last few years and yeat,
[6:10] Speaker 1: his numbers are still awesome and a development story that
[6:15] Speaker 1: I didn't expect to see coming coming out of college.
[6:17] Speaker 1: I know he was taken very high, but I didn't
[6:19] Speaker 1: know if he would become true top ten wide receiver
[6:22] Speaker 1: type of player.
[6:22] Speaker 2: And that's where I put him.
[6:23] Speaker 1: We're gonna rank our wide receivers later this offseason, but
[6:26] Speaker 1: he's getting in that top.
[6:27] Speaker 3: Yeah, two picks ahead of Garrett Wilson.
[6:28] Speaker 4: And we know what Garrett Wilson in the promise that
[6:30] Speaker 4: he's shown and nobody's looking back and saying, oh, Terry
[6:34] Speaker 4: that that was a horrible pick.
[6:36] Speaker 3: It was.
[6:37] Speaker 4: You know, he's done excellent, especially considering what the quarterback
[6:41] Speaker 4: circumstances have been during his time there, and he's been
[6:43] Speaker 4: very good. And another opportunity to say like, hey, you
[6:47] Speaker 4: can you can take a guy, provide him this with
[6:51] Speaker 4: this contract and it not necessarily be this long drawn
[6:54] Speaker 4: out thing. Get it done in June.
[6:56] Speaker 1: Good work by the Atlanta Falcons, who are repositioning themselves
[6:59] Speaker 1: as kind of a step back year. He's still going
[7:02] Speaker 1: to play the fifth year option out, so they've got
[7:05] Speaker 1: him long locked up for a long time. I've really
[7:08] Speaker 1: been noting this with some of the recent contracts. They're
[7:10] Speaker 1: getting longer again for a while, they're getting shorter, but
[7:13] Speaker 1: they basically control Drake.
[7:15] Speaker 3: London longer contracts for younger players.
[7:18] Speaker 1: Yes, he's twenty four years old and average salary if
[7:21] Speaker 1: you just do the extension, he's only behind JSN and
[7:23] Speaker 1: Jamar Chase. But in a couple of years that that
[7:26] Speaker 1: contract's going to age.
[7:27] Speaker 3: Well.
[7:27] Speaker 2: I think the Nick Herbig contract is also.
[7:29] Speaker 3: That's the one you want to talk about, Greg.
[7:32] Speaker 1: Well, they got a deal and I do think it's
[7:34] Speaker 1: fascinating that they gave a guy in Nick Herbig that
[7:38] Speaker 1: got a four year extension from the Steelers for one
[7:40] Speaker 1: hundred million dollars only quote unquote forty two million dollars guaranteed,
[7:44] Speaker 1: So that might really be more like a two to
[7:46] Speaker 1: three year deal. For whatever reason it didn't go well.
[7:49] Speaker 1: I think he's going to age really well because that's
[7:51] Speaker 1: it's also tacking on a year on average, he's really
[7:55] Speaker 1: averaging closer to twenty million dollars a year, which for
[7:57] Speaker 1: his talent, I think is exceptional. But what it does
[8:00] Speaker 1: for this year is make the highest paid trio of
[8:05] Speaker 1: edge rushers we've ever seen an NFL history, between him,
[8:09] Speaker 1: Alex high Smith, and TJ.
[8:11] Speaker 2: Watt.
[8:11] Speaker 1: There's no reason to believe that they're trading any one
[8:14] Speaker 1: of the three this season.
[8:16] Speaker 2: It's almost like a.
[8:17] Speaker 1: Win now at the edge position type of season for
[8:21] Speaker 1: the Steelers. I can't imagine they're going to keep all
[8:23] Speaker 1: three of them next year necessarily because then it gets
[8:25] Speaker 1: starts getting complicated. But that is quite a trio to
[8:29] Speaker 1: have on one roster.
[8:30] Speaker 4: And perhaps you know, if we wanted to don a
[8:33] Speaker 4: conspiracy hut and you're having an underachieving team, you're going
[8:37] Speaker 4: to make a change at the head coaching spot. You
[8:41] Speaker 4: have one of the more efficient pass rushers in the
[8:43] Speaker 4: NFL who's due for a pay day. Maybe you don't
[8:46] Speaker 4: play them that much down the stretch.
[8:49] Speaker 1: Oh, stop, that's ridiculous because they've so Yeah, the player
[8:54] Speaker 1: was gonna say, is they gave one hundred million dollars
[8:55] Speaker 1: to a guy that they wouldn't give thirty snaps a
[8:58] Speaker 1: game to.
[8:58] Speaker 2: Down the stretch.
[8:59] Speaker 4: Going on, I gave him thirty snaps, Greg, then it's
[9:01] Speaker 4: one hundred and thirty million dollars.
[9:02] Speaker 1: Well, his agent could still be like, hey, you know
[9:05] Speaker 1: how many people have ever gone back to back in
[9:08] Speaker 1: winning the pass rush Win Rate Championship? Literally none in
[9:12] Speaker 1: the history of the NFL. This stat's only like eight
[9:14] Speaker 1: years old or something. But Herbig went back to back
[9:17] Speaker 1: the last two years. It's outrageous. I think they're going
[9:19] Speaker 1: to trade Alex Higsmith after this year.
[9:21] Speaker 3: If I had to guess, yeah, like strength and size,
[9:23] Speaker 3: it doesn't.
[9:24] Speaker 4: Efficiency doesn't scale lineally, we're not thinking we can't necessarily
[9:28] Speaker 4: project to a twenty six sack herbig season.
[9:32] Speaker 2: But still, but for him, it did.
[9:33] Speaker 1: Early in the season when Watt and Highsmith kind of
[9:36] Speaker 1: took turns being injured. He was still just as effective.
[9:38] Speaker 1: That was what was annoying. He didn't have all the sacks.
[9:40] Speaker 1: He might not be that guy, but man, he bends
[9:43] Speaker 1: the edge. If you're thinking of trying to think of
[9:47] Speaker 1: a similar type of player, you know, like a young TJ. Watt. Really,
[9:51] Speaker 1: I just don't think TJ. Watt's going to be very tradable.
[9:53] Speaker 1: That contract where they guaranteed all his money for three
[9:57] Speaker 1: years including next year, which is like I got to
[10:00] Speaker 1: check out, it's around forty million dollars. I don't think
[10:02] Speaker 1: that's going to be that good of a contract. And
[10:04] Speaker 1: I saw Mark Coboli, who covers them for the Pat
[10:09] Speaker 1: McAfee show, saying there's no particular path to more snaps
[10:14] Speaker 1: for her big this year. So it's really more about
[10:18] Speaker 1: the future and just trying to win now and making
[10:21] Speaker 1: this team great and then maybe they trade him in
[10:23] Speaker 1: the future. And yeah, the cap number for TJ. Watt
[10:25] Speaker 1: next year is forty two million dollars, the salary is
[10:27] Speaker 1: thirty two million.
[10:28] Speaker 3: Yeah, Spotreck has a potential out in twenty twenty eight.
[10:31] Speaker 2: Sure twenty eight and twenty thirty four years old then
[10:34] Speaker 2: and at.
[10:34] Speaker 4: Twenty one million dollars, perhaps a you know, a return
[10:37] Speaker 4: to Wisconsin situation for TJ. Watt for for a couple
[10:40] Speaker 4: of years.
[10:41] Speaker 1: I think they might trade Highsmith after this year because
[10:44] Speaker 1: Watt will be untradeable, but maybe improves. But I wanted
[10:47] Speaker 1: to push back on the idea that there's no path
[10:49] Speaker 1: to play more snaps for Nick Krbrick. You can do
[10:51] Speaker 1: what the other thirty one teams do and rotate your
[10:53] Speaker 1: freaking pass rushers and not make TJ. Watt play seventy
[10:57] Speaker 1: eighty snaps a game. So that's the path. Yeah, I
[11:00] Speaker 1: think they'll be better play your good players. I think
[11:02] Speaker 1: I think that he will play more. And this is
[11:04] Speaker 1: a coaching staff being like, why why didn't he not play?
[11:06] Speaker 1: Another Edge got a contract an Edge and Derek Hall
[11:11] Speaker 1: for the Seahawks that can move inside, who got twenty
[11:15] Speaker 1: one million dollars guaranteed. It's about what fourteen million dollars
[11:19] Speaker 1: on the extension on average. Seahawks were pretty quiet this offseason,
[11:25] Speaker 1: but they have given a lot of money to their
[11:27] Speaker 1: own guys like Jackson Smith and Jibba we just mentioned,
[11:30] Speaker 1: and now Derek Hall part of like a bigger pass
[11:34] Speaker 1: rush plan in Seattle.
[11:36] Speaker 4: Yeah, and it's never the Seahawks are never going to
[11:38] Speaker 4: have at least this rendition of the Seahawks isn't going
[11:42] Speaker 4: to have that statistically dominant player to rush the pass
[11:46] Speaker 4: or because they're going to do it as a unit.
[11:48] Speaker 4: And you get those guys paid in this format where
[11:52] Speaker 4: you haven't looked at the Seahawks and gone, oh yeah,
[11:55] Speaker 4: this is the the repeat Seahawks roster. But that's that's
[11:59] Speaker 4: what this can struction is going to look like, because
[12:01] Speaker 4: we never felt like the other things splashes other than Darnold,
[12:05] Speaker 4: which generated a lot of discussion because he's a quarterback like.
[12:08] Speaker 2: He is Derek hall Is. He's long.
[12:10] Speaker 1: When I think of him, like he is just looking
[12:12] Speaker 1: like one of those velociraptors. He's like six', three somewhat lean,
[12:17] Speaker 1: ish but extremely, strong just a power. Player AND i
[12:22] Speaker 1: think what The seahawks have done in general and other
[12:25] Speaker 1: teams do is give a lot of money to these.
[12:28] Speaker 1: Guys they're not role, players but they're also not being
[12:32] Speaker 1: asked kind of like Boy mafey a year, ago to do.
[12:34] Speaker 1: Everything Boy mafi is a certain type of, player a
[12:37] Speaker 1: fireball around the. Edge he's going to create pressure haul
[12:40] Speaker 1: is a different type of like just strength based player
[12:44] Speaker 1: and you give them these mid tier. Contracts there's not
[12:47] Speaker 1: enough of these mid tier contracts and instead of putting
[12:49] Speaker 1: it all on, one they're kind of spreading their chips
[12:51] Speaker 1: out with four or, five six seven. Players it's a
[12:55] Speaker 1: lot to deal. With smart way to build a. Team you,
[12:58] Speaker 1: know who was once on The Seattle seahawks is.
[13:01] Speaker 2: No longer playing. Football we Think Russell.
[13:05] Speaker 1: Wilson so part of this exercise, Today, patrick we're hitting
[13:09] Speaker 1: as many news items as we can and we never
[13:12] Speaker 1: got to the news that Hit lake last weekend that

[13:34] Speaker 4: reunited With John schneider In seattle or. Something he's a
[13:38] Speaker 4: part of the ownership, group you, know and in the
[13:41] Speaker 4: change over there good FOR uss AND i wouldn't take
[13:46] Speaker 4: out a return to, football as you, mentioned For Russell wilson.
[13:50] Speaker 4: Either he could take some time deal with whatever lingering
[13:53] Speaker 4: issues he has physically and come back if.

[14:27] Speaker 1: fine with. It Nolan teasley is a name that MOST
[14:31] Speaker 1: nfl fans probably not familiar with until this, week maybe
[14:34] Speaker 1: not until this very. Second he is your New Minnesota
[14:38] Speaker 1: vikings general. Manager they had an interview process that felt
[14:43] Speaker 1: like a reality.
[14:44] Speaker 2: Show it was like twenty.
[14:45] Speaker 1: Deep we had second interviews coming, back we had, finalists
[14:50] Speaker 1: we had different, reporting and the big winner.
[14:53] Speaker 2: In the end Is Nolan.
