[0:04] Speaker 1: Welcome to NFL Daily, where we're going to be watching
[0:07] Speaker 1: Aaron Donald play football in Australia.
[0:10] Speaker 2: I'm Greg Rosenthal. I'm in my garage.
[0:12] Speaker 1: I'm joined across town by my friend Jordan Rodrigue. It
[0:16] Speaker 1: is cut down day, a day of complicated feelings.
[0:19] Speaker 2: Jordan, as many players experience. get cut.
[0:24] Speaker 1: Their dream ends for now, but maybe they end up
[0:26] Speaker 1: on a practice squad. And yet the Rams, as they've
[0:28] Speaker 1: been doing all offseason, stole the show by finding out
[0:32] Speaker 1: today is the day that Aaron Donald decided to return
[0:35] Speaker 1: to the team. So we will get to all 32
[0:38] Speaker 1: teams and the takeaways from their cuts and some suspensions
[0:43] Speaker 1: and commissioners exempt list announcements. But we have to start
[0:47] Speaker 1: with the team that you were broadcasting on Thursday night.
[0:50] Speaker 2: Great job.
[0:50] Speaker 1: Again, it would have been nice if Aaron Donald came
[0:52] Speaker 1: back during that broadcast for you, but he did it
[0:55] Speaker 1: nicely for this podcast. Not a shock to us, but
[0:59] Speaker 1: what do you think about the timing, about the usage?
[1:02] Speaker 1: We've kind of waited to analyze the actual football impact
[1:06] Speaker 1: of it all until it actually happens, and now it's
[1:09] Speaker 1: actually happened.
[1:11] Speaker 3: Yeah, I'm trying to think of even where to start.
[1:12] Speaker 4: Cause there's so much great stuff to dig into with this,
[1:15] Speaker 4: but let's, I guess, start with the timing. I don't
[1:18] Speaker 4: think it should be a surprise to anybody that after
[1:20] Speaker 4: training camp is the timing here. This is something where
[1:24] Speaker 4: it could have been at this point into the season.
[1:27] Speaker 4: It's really clear to me that Aaron Donald really wanted.
[1:30] Speaker 3: To be a part of.
[1:31] Speaker 4: The speciality that this team is trying to build and
[1:34] Speaker 4: also reinvest into his teammates the whole way through. I've
[1:38] Speaker 4: been working up a column today for the athletic that'll
[1:41] Speaker 4: run tomorrow. Please go check it out about how. Back
[1:46] Speaker 4: when the Rams went on their Superbowl run last time
[1:48] Speaker 4: in 2021, he was paired with a different future hall
[1:51] Speaker 4: of fame, potentially, probably a edge rusher in, in Von
[1:55] Speaker 4: Miller and Von Miller used to sit next to Aaron
[1:57] Speaker 4: Donald on the planes to, and from these games, especially
[2:00] Speaker 4: late in the season and into the post season. and
[2:03] Speaker 4: just tell him stories about what playing in the Super
[2:05] Speaker 4: Bowl was like and winning it, because obviously Aaron Donald
[2:08] Speaker 4: had played in one previously, and what it felt like
[2:11] Speaker 4: to hold the Lombardi Trophy and even brought his Lombardi
[2:13] Speaker 4: Trophy in so that it would just sort of stand
[2:15] Speaker 4: in the equipment room as a reminder to everybody what
[2:17] Speaker 4: they were chasing. And Aaron Donald is going to be
[2:20] Speaker 4: that person for other players. There's not a lot of
[2:23] Speaker 4: Rams players on this roster now. who know what that
[2:26] Speaker 4: was like or had felt that. And Miles Garrett has
[2:28] Speaker 4: not felt what that is like. Like this is the
[2:30] Speaker 4: most intrinsically motivated guy ever. There's no question about that.
[2:33] Speaker 4: But when the season gets hard and when the goals
[2:36] Speaker 4: seem to be very, very small, very, very large, and
[2:39] Speaker 4: the chances of attaining them seem to be very, very small.
[2:42] Speaker 4: This is when having a player like this and somebody
[2:45] Speaker 4: who shows up when the best is required.
[2:47] Speaker 3: This is when it will matter.
[2:49] Speaker 4: Yeah.
[2:50] Speaker 1: I loved seeing the, practice videos out there today of
[2:54] Speaker 1: him going through just the positional drills. I believe he's
[2:56] Speaker 1: going to speak actually later on Sunday evening. Thank you
[3:01] Speaker 1: to everyone joining us live, you know, give us questions.
[3:04] Speaker 1: But yeah, we're taping this for everyone listening on the
[3:07] Speaker 1: podcast side on Sunday evening as about 27, 26 teams
[3:12] Speaker 1: have announced their cuts. We're watching you other five team jets.
[3:15] Speaker 1: Just give us your cuts. So the contract is, Is
[3:20] Speaker 1: interesting to me. I don't want to linger too much
[3:22] Speaker 1: on it, but a $ 10 million base salary, $ 10 million
[3:25] Speaker 1: in per game roster bonuses that he has to be
[3:27] Speaker 1: active for. So a lot is really tied to him
[3:30] Speaker 1: being on the team. And then fascinatingly, $ 10 million more
[3:33] Speaker 1: on playoff bonuses where he has to be active. They
[3:36] Speaker 1: have to make the playoffs. So if the team just
[3:38] Speaker 1: stinks for whatever reason, he can't make any of those
[3:41] Speaker 1: $ 10 million. He has to be active for the first round,
[3:44] Speaker 1: and then you make a couple million dollars more. You
[3:46] Speaker 1: have to be active for the second round. You have
[3:47] Speaker 1: to make a couple million dollars more, and he maxes
[3:51] Speaker 1: out if they win the actual Super Bowl at $ 10 million.
[3:54] Speaker 1: So to me, the expectations are the thing that I'm
[3:59] Speaker 1: more interested in from your perspective, Jordan, because when we
[4:02] Speaker 1: last saw him, extremely effective player, one of the leaders
[4:07] Speaker 1: in pass rush win rate, one of the best players
[4:10] Speaker 1: at his position, hasn't won a defensive player of the
[4:13] Speaker 1: year since 2020. Those three now are six-plus years old.
[4:19] Speaker 1: What do you think about how they're going to use
[4:21] Speaker 1: him role-wise and what's a reasonable expectation after being two
[4:26] Speaker 1: years away and he's, what, 35 years old now?
[4:28] Speaker 4: Yeah, I think it's going to be situational and game-by-game,
[4:31] Speaker 4: which is a double-sided... Meaning, because first of all, that
[4:36] Speaker 4: should be very worrisome for opponents because you're already having
[4:40] Speaker 4: to try to game plan for one of the most
[4:43] Speaker 4: difficult players on the planet to game plan for in
[4:45] Speaker 4: miles Garrett. And now you're not quite sure that I
[4:48] Speaker 4: think what the Rams are really wanting to do with
[4:50] Speaker 4: this is making it sure, making sure to, um, not
[4:54] Speaker 4: show any tendencies and having a player who is at
[4:57] Speaker 4: Aaron Donald's age, which is what 35 right now. And
[5:01] Speaker 4: to and also the fact that they're so deep along
[5:04] Speaker 4: their defensive line. You know, I've been saying for weeks
[5:06] Speaker 4: that I think this defense is going to really surprise
[5:09] Speaker 4: people with how multiple it is and how much it
[5:11] Speaker 4: can rotate even on the field without subbing players out.
[5:15] Speaker 4: There's so many players in the front and the back
[5:17] Speaker 4: that can play multiple positions and can rotate all around
[5:21] Speaker 4: each other and really activate against a bunch of different
[5:24] Speaker 4: types of personnel's.
[5:25] Speaker 3: Without needing to come off the field.
[5:27] Speaker 4: So if teams, which we think they will try to
[5:29] Speaker 4: go quick game on them or tempo in order to
[5:31] Speaker 4: try to mitigate some of this pass rush that they'll
[5:33] Speaker 4: see from miles Garrett, et cetera, You are, you now
[5:36] Speaker 4: have a counter punch for that. And that that's pretty worrisome.
[5:40] Speaker 4: I think when you factor in, you're not going to really,
[5:42] Speaker 4: really know what Aaron Donald's going to do week to week.
[5:45] Speaker 4: I was thinking about this today, you know, you mentioned
[5:46] Speaker 4: at the top and we'll hear from him later today.
[5:48] Speaker 4: So this might be wrong already that I'm saying this,
[5:51] Speaker 4: but I actually don't know if he's playing or not
[5:53] Speaker 4: in Australia. And there's precedent to where he has missed
[5:57] Speaker 4: the first couple of games of the season or the
[5:59] Speaker 4: first game, at least out of a thing like a holdout,
[6:02] Speaker 4: for example, which he had in the past. and still
[6:05] Speaker 4: went on obviously to win defensive player of the year
[6:07] Speaker 4: that season. But this is the long game for, for
[6:10] Speaker 4: the Rams. And certainly it's a mind game for everybody
[6:13] Speaker 4: else because we are so, we got so used to,
[6:17] Speaker 4: and we never really got used to, but we kind
[6:19] Speaker 4: of got used to all the stories of these opposing
[6:20] Speaker 4: coaches talking about how, when you play Aaron Donald, that's
[6:24] Speaker 4: actually the only player you're game planning around on defense
[6:27] Speaker 4: for the Rams. That's how much of the week that
[6:29] Speaker 4: it takes up in their meetings and how much of
[6:31] Speaker 4: the the reinstallation of offensive line protections and blocks and
[6:35] Speaker 4: slides and all these different things that you have to
[6:37] Speaker 4: focus on. And so now the fact that he is
[6:39] Speaker 4: going to be used situationally and you don't, you won't
[6:42] Speaker 4: be able to tendency predict week over week. That's a
[6:45] Speaker 4: real problem, I think. And I think it, it plays
[6:47] Speaker 4: to the Rams benefit. And I think they know that,
[6:49] Speaker 4: which again is one of the reasons why among all
[6:52] Speaker 4: of this other super team building thing, just the way
[6:55] Speaker 4: that they're doing it is also the reason why the
[6:57] Speaker 4: Rams have such a big target on their back this year.
[6:59] Speaker 1: It, It's wild because, you know, Von Miller was great
[7:03] Speaker 1: in that run. He was not 2025 Miles Garrett. We'll
[7:07] Speaker 1: see if 2026 Miles Garrett is that good. But assuming
[7:10] Speaker 1: he is having those two guys in the field, it's
[7:12] Speaker 1: just special. It's the first team ever to have two
[7:15] Speaker 1: defensive players of the year on the same roster, which
[7:17] Speaker 1: kind of surprised me, I believe, at the same coming
[7:20] Speaker 1: into the season.
[7:21] Speaker 4: Yeah.
[7:22] Speaker 1: You add Braden Fisk, who's a good depth piece. You
[7:25] Speaker 1: add Puna Ford, who is a great run stopper. You
[7:28] Speaker 1: have Byron Young, who's a great edge rusher in a
[7:32] Speaker 1: contract year for him. You have a young player in
[7:34] Speaker 1: Josiah Stewart. It's a very deep front. Kobe Turner, of course,
[7:39] Speaker 1: is the guy who's also in a contract push. It
[7:44] Speaker 1: really stood out to me how... many free agents are
[7:47] Speaker 1: on this team. I'm putting together my list and man,
[7:50] Speaker 1: now Aaron Donald is another one of them. I mean,
[7:52] Speaker 1: the amount of players on this team that are in
[7:55] Speaker 1: the final years of their contracts, I know it's not
[7:58] Speaker 1: Superbowl or bus, but like for, for like a long-term vision,
[8:03] Speaker 1: but for this particular team, it is pretty crazy that
[8:07] Speaker 1: Kobe Turner is, Puka Nakua, both their guards, Kevin Dotson,
[8:11] Speaker 1: Steve Avila, Aaron Donald, Byron Young. I'm missing a few
[8:16] Speaker 1: more like Coleman Shelton, their center, like are all free
[8:18] Speaker 1: agents this year. And it's really exciting. If I had
[8:21] Speaker 1: to guess, yeah, you're right. It's possible he might not
[8:23] Speaker 1: even play that week. He's getting those bonuses each week.
[8:27] Speaker 1: He'll want to play, you know, but that will not
[8:29] Speaker 1: make the decision for them. And Ian Rappaport spoke on
[8:32] Speaker 1: NFL Network just like, look, they might. start him out
[8:35] Speaker 1: 10 to 15 snaps or something, but he just can't
[8:38] Speaker 1: imagine that that's going to last particularly long.
[8:40] Speaker 4: Well, I did see Albert Breer talking about the contract,
[8:43] Speaker 4: and I thought it said up to 15 games were
[8:46] Speaker 4: eligible for these bonuses, which made my wheels start ticking.
[8:51] Speaker 4: So maybe if he's not there right away, they still.
[8:55] Speaker 4: But the thing is, is I'm curious. Wolf, again, this
[8:58] Speaker 4: could be all us having fun right before they come
[9:01] Speaker 4: out and say, yes, he is or isn't playing in Australia.
[9:04] Speaker 4: I think that it would be so because especially because
[9:07] Speaker 4: they're playing the 49ers. I mean, they won't even talk
[9:10] Speaker 4: about what their travel plans are publicly. Like this, I
[9:15] Speaker 4: would not be surprised. Well, again, I might be wrong
[9:18] Speaker 4: at about 15 minutes, but I would not be surprised
[9:20] Speaker 4: at all.
[9:20] Speaker 3: If they're just like, Hmm, he might play. He might not.
[9:23] Speaker 2: We'll see.
[9:24] Speaker 3: It's going to be a game time decision. We don't
[9:26] Speaker 3: know if he's going to travel.
[9:27] Speaker 4: And then it's like a bunch of really interesting social
[9:30] Speaker 4: media shots where you see everybody boarding the plane, but
[9:32] Speaker 4: not him. And is he on the plane or is
[9:34] Speaker 4: he not on the plane? And, Yeah, it's a whole thing. Again,
[9:37] Speaker 4: that's what I'm saying. The Rams already have a target
[9:39] Speaker 4: on their back, but the way that they are doing
[9:41] Speaker 4: this also would create an even bigger one. And because
[9:45] Speaker 4: it's Kyle Shanahan, because it's the 49ers, I wouldn't be
[9:47] Speaker 4: surprised if they try to gamesmanship this one a little
[9:50] Speaker 4: bit too.
[9:51] Speaker 1: Kobe Turner and Aaron Donald next to each other because
[9:53] Speaker 1: they're very different styles of players is pretty exciting to
[9:58] Speaker 1: think about.
[9:59] Speaker 2: And for.
[10:00] Speaker 1: just when I saw the money, even before I knew
[10:02] Speaker 1: it was only $ 10 million base salary, I was just like,
[10:05] Speaker 1: this guy, it is still Aaron Donald. And I know
[10:08] Speaker 1: you can't expect him to be exactly the same, but
[10:09] Speaker 1: he's making less money than Kenny Clark. And Deron Payne
[10:14] Speaker 1: and Zach Seeler, like he essentially took a discount and
[10:19] Speaker 1: helped them out because he wants to be part of this.
[10:21] Speaker 1: And I know they had a previous contract, but exciting.
[10:25] Speaker 1: And we have a listener watching us right now from Melbourne. And,
[10:28] Speaker 1: you know, I hope Aaron Donald, just for the excitement
[10:30] Speaker 1: of that game, goes over there. But if not, we
[10:32] Speaker 1: will see him soon enough. We will presumably see Puka
[10:35] Speaker 1: Nakua week one. He was not placed on the commissioner's
[10:38] Speaker 1: exempt list like some other players around the league, although
[10:41] Speaker 1: the NFL still could suspend him potentially.
[10:44] Speaker 2: We'll find out.
[10:45] Speaker 1: He was at practice, though, so he's back on the field.
[10:47] Speaker 1: All expectations, he's ready to go week one. Miles Garrett,
[10:50] Speaker 1: it's not believed it's anything serious as far as we know,
[10:53] Speaker 1: but he was not back at practice on Sunday. Tutu
[10:55] Speaker 1: Atwell is now part of this team, so it really
[10:58] Speaker 1: is a super team.
[11:00] Speaker 2: In Los Angeles. Let's go to the rest of the
[11:02] Speaker 2: cut down. Two back, two, two.
[11:05] Speaker 4: Right.
[11:05] Speaker 2: Oh, there we go.
[11:06] Speaker 3: Two back, two furious.
[11:07] Speaker 2: I don't know.
[11:08] Speaker 1: I wasn't sure two, two would make the team, but
[11:11] Speaker 1: he's definitely going to be on that team.
[11:12] Speaker 2: Why would he trade for him? I guess if he's
[11:13] Speaker 2: not going to make the team.
[11:15] Speaker 1: So unfortunately, the other biggest items of news before we
[11:18] Speaker 1: get to kind of who made the team, some nice
[11:20] Speaker 1: stories and some surprising cuts. were a couple decisions by
[11:24] Speaker 1: the NFL related to domestic violence cases. Number one, Josh
[11:29] Speaker 1: Jacobs was placed on the commissioner's exempt list. And Jonathan Cooper,
[11:34] Speaker 1: who is an edge rusher for the Broncos, very good player,
[11:37] Speaker 1: also was placed on the commissioner's exempt list. We'll get
[11:40] Speaker 1: back to the Cooper news in a second. What the
[11:43] Speaker 1: commissioner's exempt list means for everyone watching and listening is
[11:48] Speaker 1: that the player actually remains paid. And it's a way
[11:53] Speaker 1: for the NFL to step in and not let the
[11:56] Speaker 1: legal process play out and kind of put this guy
[11:59] Speaker 1: on the shelf in the meantime while they figure out
[12:02] Speaker 1: what the punishment is going to be. Josh Jacobs, since
[12:06] Speaker 1: we last taped, learned he faces two misdemeanor charges. one
[12:10] Speaker 1: of battery and one of criminal damage to property. Matt LaFleur,
[12:13] Speaker 1: his coach, said he will be on the team. Those
[12:17] Speaker 1: were actually lesser charges than the original charges that he faced.
[12:20] Speaker 1: So a lot of people saw that news and thought it's,
[12:22] Speaker 1: quote unquote, good news for Josh Jacobs and the Packers.
[12:28] Speaker 1: But as part of the police report and everything that
[12:31] Speaker 1: came out, they say there is a video where Josh Jacobs, quote,
[12:36] Speaker 1: grabs the victim and throws her to the ground and
[12:38] Speaker 1: and she struck her head, suffering an injury. Jacobs then
[12:41] Speaker 1: took her phone from her while she was on the ground.
[12:43] Speaker 1: She laid on the ground and struggled to walk back
[12:45] Speaker 1: to the house. That is on video. The NFL obviously
[12:47] Speaker 1: knows about all of this, Jordan. The punishment for anything
[12:52] Speaker 1: domestic related is supposed to be a baseline of minimum
[12:55] Speaker 1: six games. I know I'm doing a lot of explaining here,
[12:57] Speaker 1: but I had to go back and even check. This
[12:59] Speaker 1: was a past precedent. Jabril Peppers had a very similar case.
[13:05] Speaker 1: where he was placed on the exempt list while they
[13:07] Speaker 1: figured out his punishment. Eventually, they suspended him seven games
[13:12] Speaker 1: at the point that they announced that he had already
[13:13] Speaker 1: been out for seven weeks, and they essentially considered that
[13:16] Speaker 1: time served. He then lost that money that he had
[13:20] Speaker 1: been making in the meantime, and that's, I guess, how
[13:23] Speaker 1: we're going to do this.
[13:24] Speaker 2: We won't know the timeline.
[13:25] Speaker 1: No one's going to know the timeline exactly, but I
[13:27] Speaker 1: think it's fair knowing the NFL's precedent that it's a
[13:30] Speaker 1: minimum six games for Josh Jacobs. Yeah.
[13:33] Speaker 3: And I would just add to that too.
[13:34] Speaker 4: We're on a hashtag noticing watch for Matt LaFleur too,
[13:38] Speaker 4: in his response to this and his continued response to this.
[13:42] Speaker 4: So that's what I would make sure to add to
[13:44] Speaker 4: this too, because it is not a secret how unstable
[13:50] Speaker 4: the depth at running back is there on their roster.
[13:53] Speaker 4: And you don't ever want to think that that factors
[13:55] Speaker 4: into some of the things that you say to reporters
[13:57] Speaker 4: and some of the decisions you make as a head coach,
[14:00] Speaker 4: But maybe it is.
[14:02] Speaker 3: And, you know, hashtag noticing.
[14:05] Speaker 1: We literally talked about on this podcast, can't remember if
[14:09] Speaker 1: it was you or Shook, that like, I don't want
[14:11] Speaker 1: this to be a Ray Rice thing where this has
[14:12] Speaker 1: been quiet for a while and that, well, then the
[14:15] Speaker 1: video falls, comes out and then everyone says, oh, he
[14:17] Speaker 1: can't play in the NFL again. So the video still
[14:20] Speaker 1: could come out in theory. We know there is a video,
[14:23] Speaker 1: but maybe that at least forced the NFL to act.
[14:28] Speaker 2: Who knows?
[14:29] Speaker 1: The Packers did make a move at running back. They
[14:30] Speaker 1: traded for Caleb Johnson, who was a day two pick
[14:34] Speaker 1: by the Steelers just last year, who was not going
[14:36] Speaker 1: to make that team. And I saw the Steelers fans
[14:40] Speaker 1: kind of like, oh, we got something for Caleb Johnson.
[14:43] Speaker 2: The terms aren't out.
[14:45] Speaker 1: It's very likely like a late round pick swap, like
[14:47] Speaker 1: a sixth or a seventh if he does something. So
[14:50] Speaker 1: I assume it's for almost nothing. Marshawn Lloyd is presumably
[14:54] Speaker 1: is going to be the starter there. The Packers also,
[14:56] Speaker 1: while we're on the Packers, signed Johnnie Smith at tight end,
[14:59] Speaker 1: traded for a Rams tight end rookie. So they added
[15:03] Speaker 1: a couple of tight ends. They got a sixth round
[15:05] Speaker 1: pick by trading away Kyle McCord. We'll hit that later
[15:07] Speaker 1: with the Dolphins. And then Micah Parsons was placed on
[15:10] Speaker 1: the PUP list. That means he's out at least four weeks.
[15:13] Speaker 1: None of that particularly surprising, but we'll see how much
[15:17] Speaker 1: their running backs hurt that running game. Cause it's a,
[15:20] Speaker 1: it's a lot of questions in terms of the, offensive.
[15:23] Speaker 2: Line and the running backs.
[15:25] Speaker 1: I mentioned Jonathan Cooper, and I kind of just want
[15:27] Speaker 1: to get these two out of the way here. He
[15:29] Speaker 1: is also placed in the commissioner's exempt list. He had
[15:32] Speaker 1: a couple incidents where he was arrested this offseason. And again,
[15:35] Speaker 1: we don't know how the legal process is going to
[15:37] Speaker 1: play out, but he has been kind of a core
[15:40] Speaker 1: edge rusher for them opposite Nick Benito. I think the
[15:43] Speaker 1: Broncos probably expected this to happen if you watch what
[15:46] Speaker 1: they were doing throughout the preseason and listen to them.
[15:49] Speaker 1: So not a huge surprise, but an important player for
[15:52] Speaker 1: them that they also are choosing not to cut.
[15:54] Speaker 2: So the point you made.
[15:55] Speaker 1: About LeFleur, the Broncos organization. Yeah, making the same decision.
[16:00] Speaker 4: We are on noticing duties, Greg. That's unfortunately the case.
[16:05] Speaker 4: A lot of players on that commissioner exempt list right now.
[16:08] Speaker 1: Yeah, Terryon Arnold is the third who we'll get to.
[16:12] Speaker 1: He has a different situation. He is now a member
[16:14] Speaker 1: of the Seattle Broncos.
[16:16] Speaker 2: Seahawks.
[16:18] Speaker 1: That's the Broncos. That's the pass rushers. We still don't
[16:21] Speaker 1: know everything. Alaric Jackson of the Rams, I expected to
[16:25] Speaker 1: get a suspension. That still has not happened. I still
[16:28] Speaker 1: would not be surprised if it does happen before the season.
[16:32] Speaker 1: So just the fact that he wasn't suspended or placed
[16:35] Speaker 1: on a commissioner's exemplar list today does not mean the
[16:37] Speaker 1: NFL can't do it in the upcoming days.
[16:38] Speaker 2: We will see.
[16:39] Speaker 1: Let's get to some happy news. Odell Beckham is on
[16:42] Speaker 1: the New York Giants. He's going to be on the
[16:45] Speaker 1: week one roster. That means like he's making his salary.
[16:49] Speaker 1: It's not compared to the money he used to make, Jordan.
[16:51] Speaker 1: It's not a ton of money, but it's guaranteed throughout
[16:54] Speaker 1: the season. It is one of my favorite things. like
[16:57] Speaker 1: cut down day stories that Odell Beckham is on the
[17:00] Speaker 1: Giants active roster heading into the season.
[17:03] Speaker 4: Yeah. And he actually I mean, he had to sort
[17:07] Speaker 4: of like nerve this one out, too, because we weren't
[17:10] Speaker 4: really sure if he was going to make it or not.
[17:12] Speaker 4: And so obviously a very, very different circumstance than he
[17:16] Speaker 4: was used to when he played. actually trying to figure
[17:19] Speaker 4: out and then, and then the discussions about whether, you know,
[17:21] Speaker 4: is he going to contribute on special teams and what,
[17:24] Speaker 4: what kinds of things will he be asked to do
[17:26] Speaker 4: for this football team? Um, you know, it's, I think
[17:31] Speaker 4: you love a story like this because it's just a
[17:33] Speaker 4: testament to something that I think went really, really underrated
[17:37] Speaker 4: and under talked about or under discussed about Odell when
[17:41] Speaker 4: he was playing is how much he loves football. I mean,
[17:44] Speaker 4: that was, I got to cover him when he was
[17:46] Speaker 4: trying to make, you know, help the Rams win a
[17:48] Speaker 4: Super Bowl. And everyone said all these things before he
[17:53] Speaker 4: came in and there was all these headlines about him
[17:55] Speaker 4: and all of these things. But man, his teammates absolutely
[17:58] Speaker 4: loved him and that dude loves football. And so I
[18:01] Speaker 4: just thought, you know, this is cool to see because
[18:04] Speaker 4: go have fun out there and go give it your
[18:06] Speaker 4: best and see what's going to happen and.
[18:09] Speaker 2: Let it rip.
[18:11] Speaker 1: All that needs to happen for me And I'm sure
[18:14] Speaker 1: he has different thoughts and the Giants have different thoughts.
[18:16] Speaker 1: It's just like one big Odell play to whether it's
[18:19] Speaker 1: a touchdown or a monster first down in a primetime
[18:22] Speaker 1: game and the crowd is just going crazy. Just that
[18:25] Speaker 1: happening again is a really cool full circle story. And
[18:29] Speaker 1: to your point, yeah, we didn't know if he'd make it.
[18:30] Speaker 1: Calvin Austin is their slot receiver who is out for
[18:32] Speaker 1: the season. That might have had a knockdown effect. Although
[18:36] Speaker 1: right now, Darius Slayton is still on the roster. Darnell
[18:39] Speaker 1: Mooney is still on the roster. Mooney, I believe, will
[18:42] Speaker 1: be staying there. Braxton Berrios is not on the roster,
[18:44] Speaker 1: but it's already been reported that it's a procedural move
[18:47] Speaker 1: where they cut him and they're going to bring him
[18:49] Speaker 1: back before week one. But they're doing the thing where
[18:51] Speaker 1: like his contract won't be guaranteed, which is like shady
[18:54] Speaker 1: business NFL teams. But Darius Slayton might be the guy
[18:57] Speaker 1: who still gets traded. I did notice like hashtag noticing
[19:02] Speaker 1: this doesn't really qualify, but that this is the longest
[19:04] Speaker 1: between cut down day and the start of the season.
[19:08] Speaker 2: I believe ever.
[19:09] Speaker 1: And they did it because of the teams going to
[19:12] Speaker 1: Australia and the season starting on Wednesday. It's only by
[19:14] Speaker 1: a couple of days, but at this time of year,
[19:16] Speaker 1: you have an entire week for these teams. Now you
[19:19] Speaker 1: have a couple extra days to possibly still be making trades.
[19:22] Speaker 1: So with all these announcements, it's all kind of written
[19:25] Speaker 1: in pencil. Like Darius Slayton is on the team now.
[19:27] Speaker 1: If he lands on another team in a few days,
[19:31] Speaker 1: that wouldn't shock me. But most of the players that
[19:33] Speaker 1: were traded today and will be traded in the next
[19:35] Speaker 1: couple of weeks, even though I find it very interesting, Jordan,
[19:38] Speaker 1: I know it's not like rocking everyone's world in just
[19:41] Speaker 1: the same way. Maybe not your world either. You're not
[19:43] Speaker 1: as into spots 48 to 53 on the roster.
[19:47] Speaker 4: I would say, though, I'm really actually quite liking this
[19:50] Speaker 4: adjusted schedule. I know that you can ask me again
[19:53] Speaker 4: in February when the Super Bowl's like a little bit
[19:55] Speaker 4: later than normal, but I am quite enjoying this. I
[20:00] Speaker 4: like the fact that we have an entire week to
[20:02] Speaker 4: sort of gather ourselves into this. It's a great content
[20:05] Speaker 4: week for NFL Daily. Got some really fun shows planned
[20:08] Speaker 4: this week.
[20:09] Speaker 2: QB Island. We're not going to hide it. QB Island's coming.
[20:11] Speaker 3: We got our over-unders.
[20:13] Speaker 2: It's prediction week. Exactly.
[20:15] Speaker 3: I love it. I think it's going to be fun.
[20:17] Speaker 2: Yeah.
[20:17] Speaker 1: And to be clear, I went and checked. It's just
[20:19] Speaker 1: a couple extra days. Usually it would have been Tuesday night.
[20:22] Speaker 1: Here it's on a Sunday. So nothing too crazy. But
[20:25] Speaker 1: the news is fast and furious. And one of the trends...
[20:30] Speaker 1: that I noticed on Sunday, and we were texting about
[20:33] Speaker 1: it earlier, when we thought the Browns were going to
[20:35] Speaker 1: keep four quarterbacks, they got out of it by putting
[20:38] Speaker 1: Dylan Gabriel on one of the most conveniently timed injuries
[20:42] Speaker 1: that no one saw when he was put on injured reserve. Like, wait,
[20:45] Speaker 1: didn't he just finish that game and was totally healthy?
[20:47] Speaker 2: He's on injured reserve.
[20:48] Speaker 1: So the Browns did not carry four quarterbacks, but at
[20:53] Speaker 1: least four teams did. And I might be missing someone.
[20:56] Speaker 1: The Vikings kept four, including J.J.
[20:59] Speaker 2: McCarthy.
[21:00] Speaker 1: The Steelers kept four, including Will Howard and Drew Aller,
[21:04] Speaker 1: plus Mason Rudolph and Aaron Rodgers. The Falcons kept four,
[21:09] Speaker 1: including Jack Strand. Jack Strand! And the Eagles kept four, including...
[21:17] Speaker 1: Who's their guy? Cole Payton, Tanner McKee, and Andy Dalton.
[21:21] Speaker 1: I don't expect all these teams to keep four going
[21:24] Speaker 1: into the season.
[21:24] Speaker 2: That speaks.
[21:26] Speaker 1: to the point I just made that more moves could
[21:29] Speaker 1: be happening. If I had to power rank the most
[21:31] Speaker 1: likely QB move of these four packs, I'm still thinking
[21:36] Speaker 1: JJ McCarthy is an ex-Viking by next week.
[21:39] Speaker 2: But I could be wrong. I could be wrong. What
[21:40] Speaker 2: do you think?
[21:41] Speaker 4: I think that you're hating on Jack Strand unnecessarily because
[21:45] Speaker 4: the young man played well in the preseason.
[21:47] Speaker 2: He really did.
[21:48] Speaker 4: Yeah, he threw the ball well. By the way, I
[21:51] Speaker 4: just showed my phone to you. I was getting notifications earlier.
[21:55] Speaker 4: As predicted, we're going to, quote unquote, we're going to
[21:58] Speaker 4: take it one day at a time, ramping up Aaron Donald.
[22:01] Speaker 2: Thank you.
[22:02] Speaker 4: Per Sean McVay, which we could have all seen that
[22:06] Speaker 4: one coming. And also the Chiefs finally did release their.
[22:09] Speaker 2: Congratulations to the Chiefs.
[22:11] Speaker 3: So I know you're on noticing duty for that as well.
[22:14] Speaker 3: So I wanted to let you know.
[22:14] Speaker 2: But yeah, this.
[22:16] Speaker 4: you have a saying that I say a lot now, Greg,
[22:18] Speaker 4: where if you have four quarterbacks, you have no quarterbacks.
[22:20] Speaker 4: I think that the, actually the, the team that I
[22:22] Speaker 4: trust here, two teams that I trust here in this
[22:25] Speaker 4: entire process are the Steelers and the Eagles. I think
[22:28] Speaker 4: the Eagles have been stockpiling as resort quarterbacks as resources
[22:33] Speaker 4: for a while. I don't, I don't wouldn't be surprised
[22:36] Speaker 4: at all to see them be active. And then over
[22:39] Speaker 4: the next week and then the Steelers, I will say
[22:41] Speaker 4: this again. I think Mike McCarthy so underrated over his
[22:44] Speaker 4: history as a coach and, whether a head coach or
[22:47] Speaker 4: an assistant coach, of his work that he's done with quarterbacks.
[22:50] Speaker 4: And so I really think they're sort of extending this
[22:53] Speaker 4: particular assessment to see. And one of them I would
[22:56] Speaker 4: believe is tradable, but it wouldn't surprise me if that
[22:58] Speaker 4: guy's like Mason Rudolph or something.
[23:01] Speaker 2: Right.
[23:01] Speaker 1: I think the Steelers actually will keep their four, and
[23:04] Speaker 1: maybe they cut Mason Rudolph at the last second and
[23:06] Speaker 1: put him back on the practice squad, but probably they
[23:08] Speaker 1: keep their four unless someone comes calling.
[23:10] Speaker 2: I think J.J.
[23:10] Speaker 1: McCarthy would be available, but maybe there's not going to
[23:13] Speaker 1: be enough interest in him We'll see. The Chargers, you know,
[23:17] Speaker 1: with Jim Harbaugh, who could use a backup quarterback, are
[23:20] Speaker 1: certainly a logical landing spot. But you could also just
[23:24] Speaker 1: cut Max Brosner closer to the season and hope he
[23:28] Speaker 1: slides through and put him on the practice squad. The
[23:30] Speaker 1: fact that they're worried someone's going to claim Max Brosner,
[23:33] Speaker 1: I think shows how thin it is out there for
[23:35] Speaker 1: a lot of teams at quarterback.
[23:38] Speaker 2: The Eagles are.
[23:38] Speaker 1: Probably trying to get something, anything for Andy Dalton would
[23:43] Speaker 1: be my guess. Because he played behind Tanner McKee and
[23:46] Speaker 1: didn't look as good as Tanner McKee at the end
[23:48] Speaker 1: of the preseason. So can we get like a 6-7
[23:50] Speaker 1: swap for Andy Dalton from one of these desperate teams?
[23:54] Speaker 1: Which could include the Falcons. Because I wasn't sure going
[23:56] Speaker 1: into their preseason finale, Jordan, that Tua Tungavailoa was even
[24:00] Speaker 1: going to make the team. The reporting starting to come
[24:02] Speaker 1: out there was like pretty crazy. And then Michael Penix
[24:06] Speaker 1: didn't play in their final game. Tua's numbers looked okay,
[24:09] Speaker 1: but I went back and watched. He fumbled a snap.
[24:11] Speaker 2: It was a little....
[24:13] Speaker 1: They did play starters there, but he was out there
[24:16] Speaker 1: with the starters. It would be weird to me if
[24:18] Speaker 1: they cut him, but maybe he could be available.
[24:22] Speaker 2: I don't even know.
[24:24] Speaker 1: We're 10 days out and no one knows who their
[24:26] Speaker 1: starting quarterback is going to be in Atlanta. I feel
[24:29] Speaker 1: like this offseason has gone about as bad as it
[24:31] Speaker 1: could for the Atlanta quarterback situation.
[24:34] Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean, that's a tough look for the franchise
[24:37] Speaker 4: overall to come in and try to be establishing this
[24:41] Speaker 4: new coaching staff and this new front office and like
[24:43] Speaker 4: this new team president situation and to not have real
[24:47] Speaker 4: clarity of a plan quite yet. Your best player in
[24:50] Speaker 4: the preseason was Jack Strand. It's a huge issue.
[24:54] Speaker 2: Wait, who is their fourth quarterback? I should know this.
[24:57] Speaker 3: Now I accidentally shaded Jack Strand.
[24:58] Speaker 2: Sorry, Jack. That's rude. That's rude. No, he actually really
[25:01] Speaker 2: did look good.
[25:02] Speaker 1: We just weren't familiar with him before him, and he
[25:05] Speaker 1: hasn't played football at a high level. He was at
[25:07] Speaker 1: Minnesota State Moorhead, but who knows? He might be the
[25:11] Speaker 1: most exciting long-term quarterback on that roster. They kept Cooper Rush, too,
[25:14] Speaker 1: for now. That was like, you couldn't cut Cooper Rush,
[25:16] Speaker 1: but that maybe indicates to me maybe there's something else
[25:20] Speaker 1: going on eventually.
[25:21] Speaker 4: Do you ever think it's funny how some of these
[25:23] Speaker 4: backup quarterbacks have just an iron grip on... the roster
[25:29] Speaker 4: churn of their respective franchises, like Tanner McKee, the power
[25:33] Speaker 4: that that guy has within the, within the roster planning
[25:37] Speaker 4: part of it when it's like, he's like a hinge
[25:40] Speaker 4: between the rest of the roster. And then all the
[25:42] Speaker 4: guys on the roster that are sort of churned in
[25:44] Speaker 4: and out practice squad and regular transactions over the course
[25:47] Speaker 4: of the year and standing in the middle, like Spider-Man
[25:50] Speaker 4: holding the bus together is Tanner McKee.
[25:53] Speaker 2: I mean, he's, he's what matters the most. Um, Who knows?
[25:57] Speaker 1: He could be playing big time snaps. Jalen Hurts is,
[26:00] Speaker 1: among other things, you know, very durable, handsome, durable. You know,
[26:04] Speaker 1: he gets a lot of knocks. And yet he finished
[26:07] Speaker 1: first on the Ringer Fantasy Show's hottest quarterbacks draft. And
[26:12] Speaker 1: that's worth something. I don't know how we got here,
[26:14] Speaker 1: but we're going to get out. The Falcons, by the way,
[26:16] Speaker 1: I mentioned the bad offseason. Matt Ryan traded like a
[26:19] Speaker 1: pick swap for Wanya Morris, who was a tackle from
[26:21] Speaker 1: the Chiefs, and then they cut him today. I always
[26:22] Speaker 1: notice when those things happen. You You trade for someone
[26:25] Speaker 1: and then you cut them. Like the Packers traded for
[26:29] Speaker 1: Zaire Franklin from the Colts, but the guy they traded
[26:32] Speaker 1: away to the Colts, today, Colby Wooden got cut. So
[26:36] Speaker 1: I know Zaire Franklin was maybe not long for the
[26:38] Speaker 1: Colts anyways, but that just looks bad. Like the guy
[26:41] Speaker 1: you traded him away for didn't even make your team.
[26:44] Speaker 1: Let's stay with the Steelers. They traded their first round
[26:46] Speaker 1: pick from a couple of years ago, Broderick Jones, who
[26:49] Speaker 1: played both left and right tackle for them. and a
[26:52] Speaker 1: fourth-round pick to the Cowboys for a third and a sixth.
[26:56] Speaker 1: That sounds good until you kind of add it up,
[26:58] Speaker 1: and then you're like, that's really just fifth-round-type value because
[27:01] Speaker 1: you sent the fourth back. So they give up on
[27:04] Speaker 1: Broderick Jones, who's been hurt. The Cowboys need a swing tackle.
[27:08] Speaker 1: They traded away Nate Thomas to the Texans. It was
[27:11] Speaker 1: kind of a trade-a-palooza. We don't like this guy, but
[27:14] Speaker 1: you can have him around the entire NFL. The Patriots
[27:17] Speaker 1: got one from the Vikings, the Texans. traded one to
[27:21] Speaker 1: the 49ers, but these are guys that they ultimately didn't
[27:24] Speaker 1: believe in. I did notice our guy Omar Khan, who
[27:26] Speaker 1: we had on the show, all his draft picks are
[27:30] Speaker 1: either great or they don't last on the team at all.
[27:34] Speaker 1: He has a lot of big swings and misses, and
[27:36] Speaker 1: having to trade a first-round pick a couple years after
[27:38] Speaker 1: you have him for a fifth-round value is a big
[27:40] Speaker 1: loss for him, and we'll see if the Cowboys can
[27:43] Speaker 1: rehabilitate Project Jones' career.
[27:46] Speaker 4: It's interesting because they do need swing tackle depth, but
[27:48] Speaker 4: their offensive line is pretty established as what it's going
[27:50] Speaker 4: to be. And I wouldn't be surprised if some of
[27:53] Speaker 4: their plan for Broderick Jones is using him as like
[27:55] Speaker 4: an extra tackle in some of these jumbo personnel, because
[27:59] Speaker 4: their tight end depth isn't, you know, they have a great,
[28:01] Speaker 4: like a one, you have a great one and they've
[28:03] Speaker 4: got a one too, even, but you know, the, the
[28:06] Speaker 4: tackle depth sometimes can reinforce the fact that you want
[28:10] Speaker 4: to get into some of these heavier personnels, but you
[28:12] Speaker 4: don't necessarily have the tight end depth to do it.
[28:14] Speaker 1: That's why Jordan Roderig makes the big bucks from all
[28:18] Speaker 1: three of the jobs she has. That's a great call
[28:20] Speaker 1: with Clayton Adams, you know, who you profiled there. And
[28:26] Speaker 1: if you think about what Broderick Jones, there was a
[28:27] Speaker 1: minute where he looked like he kind of figured out
[28:29] Speaker 1: that's the thing he does well. He's a big mauler
[28:32] Speaker 1: on the move. So that would absolutely make sense. And yeah,
[28:34] Speaker 1: the way their roster looks, he'll be their third tackle.
[28:37] Speaker 1: The Steelers also caught Landon Roberts, which surprised me. They
[28:39] Speaker 1: caught Malik Harrison, who was kind of a free agent
[28:41] Speaker 1: bust for them. They gave a lot of money to
[28:43] Speaker 1: him last year. from the Ravens, and they also activated
[28:46] Speaker 1: Joey Porter Jr. off their PUP list. Let's go to
[28:51] Speaker 1: the Colts, where I thought they might be in the
[28:53] Speaker 1: quarterback market, but instead they're keeping Anthony Richardson. It appears
[28:56] Speaker 1: that he is the QB, too, because he started the
[28:59] Speaker 1: final preseason game, and he was their best backup quarterback
[29:04] Speaker 1: throughout the preseason, although reportedly at practice, it was a
[29:08] Speaker 1: little tough to... You know, choose who is the best,
[29:11] Speaker 1: but I think Anthony Richardson played the best in the preseason,
[29:13] Speaker 1: so he's probably the backup. They also cut Nick Westbrook-Akina
[29:17] Speaker 1: because they brought in Keenan Allen, who was arrested for
[29:21] Speaker 1: DUI just hours after his preseason appearance for the Colts. Literally,
[29:27] Speaker 1: I think it was that night. They played the game,
[29:29] Speaker 1: and then he got arrested for DWI like hours later
[29:35] Speaker 1: in downtown Indianapolis. So that's very disappointing, but... It does
[29:40] Speaker 1: not mean he's not going to be on the roster.
[29:42] Speaker 1: In fact, he is on the roster right now. And
[29:44] Speaker 1: in general, DUIs take a while to adjudicate and NFL
[29:48] Speaker 1: suspensions don't happen until they do. So just based on
[29:51] Speaker 1: past precedent, unless the Colts want to do something about it,
[29:55] Speaker 1: he probably is just going to be on their roster
[29:56] Speaker 1: this year and face a suspension at some later time.
[30:00] Speaker 1: disappointing you know you bring in keenan allen i'm just
[30:04] Speaker 1: saying like i saw keenan allen you know the leaving
[30:08] Speaker 1: the jail and someone got him on camera and whoever
[30:10] Speaker 1: was driving the car with keenan allen like kind of
[30:12] Speaker 1: yelled at the person who was taking the picture from
[30:15] Speaker 1: a local news site like really bro really you're gonna
[30:17] Speaker 1: do that and i'm thinking like well yeah don't drink
[30:21] Speaker 1: and like don't get arrested for.
[30:22] Speaker 3: Dui Never drink and drive.
[30:26] Speaker 4: Right.
[30:27] Speaker 1: Just like it's not a hot take. Don't be mad
[30:29] Speaker 1: at someone doing.
[30:32] Speaker 4: That.
[30:32] Speaker 1: That's the Colts situation. We'll see if Alec Pierce is
[30:35] Speaker 1: healthy for week one. More QB news. Quinn Ewers is
[30:40] Speaker 1: a Jacksonville Jaguar. The Jaguars swapped 2028 day three picks.
[30:47] Speaker 1: It was like a sixth and a seventh round pick.
[30:48] Speaker 1: Like barely anything to get Quinn Ewers from the Dolphins.
[30:54] Speaker 2: They traded... They gave up so little, Jordan.
[30:57] Speaker 1: You would think this is for their third quarterback spot,
[31:01] Speaker 1: but they released Nick Mullins, and no one else is
[31:04] Speaker 1: on the roster other than Trevor Lawrence, so presumably Quinn Ewers.
[31:08] Speaker 2: Is there backup quarterback?
[31:10] Speaker 1: What are we doing here that backup quarterbacks are so
[31:13] Speaker 1: little valued that all you're doing is trading like late
[31:17] Speaker 1: round pick swaps? There's something about the backup quarterback market
[31:20] Speaker 1: that's completely effed that even the smart teams have not
[31:24] Speaker 1: quite figured out, at least most of them.
[31:26] Speaker 3: I mean, this screams Liam Cohen, honestly.
[31:29] Speaker 4: Like Quinn Ewers is somebody who a couple of people
[31:32] Speaker 4: in the quote unquote, the tree had one eye on.
[31:35] Speaker 4: Mike McDaniel went and pursued him. in part because of, quote-unquote,
[31:40] Speaker 4: being of, quote-unquote, the tree. He just seemed like a fit.
[31:45] Speaker 4: You know, I was on Quinn Ewer's duty last year.
[31:47] Speaker 3: Famously. Not the most fun time.
[31:50] Speaker 4: Of my career.
[31:50] Speaker 2: Haven't stopped complaining about it since.
[31:52] Speaker 1: You know, you should have relished a chance to learn
[31:56] Speaker 1: about a college superstar in his day, you know?
[31:59] Speaker 4: Yeah, so I just, but to me, this is like
[32:02] Speaker 4: a total I can fix him, this is total get
[32:05] Speaker 4: him in my system type of move here. Um, the
[32:08] Speaker 4: Hunter long trade to the Cardinals is interesting because the
[32:11] Speaker 4: Cardinals are going to want to play 13 personnel, but
[32:13] Speaker 4: tip Ryman's on PUP.
[32:15] Speaker 3: So, and he was their third.
[32:17] Speaker 4: So now Hunter long, we'll sort of fast track into
[32:19] Speaker 4: the third spot and Mike LaFleur we'll get to the
[32:22] Speaker 4: Cardinals in a minute, but Michael floor has a lot
[32:23] Speaker 4: of familiarity with him. Obviously the Jaguars went out and
[32:27] Speaker 4: were active in the draft at tight end. So they've
[32:29] Speaker 4: sort of replaced him anyway. That's sort of one of
[32:30] Speaker 4: those rare win-win trades, although not as rare this time
[32:33] Speaker 4: of year, when you have these sort of late, late
[32:36] Speaker 4: depth chart guys swapping for each other.
[32:38] Speaker 1: Okay, I guess what I'm thinking about this depth chart
[32:41] Speaker 1: thing is, you could have invested more in a better
[32:47] Speaker 1: veteran in the offseason. Why is Jameis Winston only making
[32:51] Speaker 1: $ 4 million a year if half the league is trading
[32:55] Speaker 1: a 6th, 7th pick swap to get their quarterback to.
[32:59] Speaker 2: late. You know what I mean?
[33:00] Speaker 1: It's just worth the money. I think like Joe Flacco
[33:03] Speaker 1: only got $ 6 million. That would be worth the money
[33:06] Speaker 1: because basically you're saying if Trevor Lawrence is hurt, the
[33:08] Speaker 1: season's completely over, which maybe that's just a realistic way
[33:13] Speaker 1: to look that you'd be done with Jameis Winston and
[33:15] Speaker 1: whoever too, but I don't know.
[33:18] Speaker 4: Also, one thing that you fail to factor into this
[33:21] Speaker 4: equation is the idea that Somebody can build him and
[33:26] Speaker 4: make him do all of the things that I want
[33:29] Speaker 4: you to do and point and shoot at where I
[33:31] Speaker 4: tell you. And you're not factoring in the little bit
[33:34] Speaker 4: of that, like in the back, maybe subconscious, maybe in
[33:37] Speaker 4: the forefront of some people's minds that, hey, if I
[33:39] Speaker 4: get this guy, I can really make something happen with him.
[33:42] Speaker 1: Like Drew Locke's making $ 2. 5 million a year. I just
[33:45] Speaker 1: feel like that's actually quite a bargain compared to what
[33:48] Speaker 1: these good teams are having to be stuck doing just
[33:51] Speaker 1: to have someone that's played and knows how to play quarterback.
[33:53] Speaker 2: All right. I'm lingering way too long on these quarterbacks.
[33:56] Speaker 2: I apologize.
[33:56] Speaker 1: Yes.
[33:57] Speaker 2: But you know what?
[33:57] Speaker 4: You've opened the door and now I'm walking through it.
[33:59] Speaker 4: So I, I really think though that you see where,
[34:04] Speaker 4: where the league sees guys that really are high value backups.
[34:07] Speaker 4: Like that clearly the Rams, when they paid Jimmy Garoppolo,
[34:11] Speaker 4: they thought he was, he was making something like five
[34:13] Speaker 4: or 6 million a year. Marcus Mariota, uh, unfortunately is hurt,
[34:17] Speaker 4: but one of the best backup quarterbacks in the NFL,
[34:20] Speaker 4: you saw, you saw the team really. So it's like,
[34:23] Speaker 4: it's not that they're not going to pay these guys.
[34:25] Speaker 4: It's that there's a huge drop off between the backup
[34:28] Speaker 4: quarterbacks that the league thinks are very good and can
[34:31] Speaker 4: help them win some games. Davis Mills can help them
[34:34] Speaker 4: win some games or, and the ones that they just don't,
[34:36] Speaker 4: that they don't regard that way.
[34:38] Speaker 2: Fair.
[34:38] Speaker 1: It's still the toughest position in sport. There's just not
[34:41] Speaker 1: enough great ones around. Speaking of which the Titans had a, uh,
[34:45] Speaker 1: former future franchise quarterback in Will Levis. He is now
[34:49] Speaker 1: on waivers. Any team could claim Will Levis. I mean,
[34:52] Speaker 1: I assume he's going to get a job because someone
[34:55] Speaker 1: will try to turn his career around, but they couldn't
[34:58] Speaker 1: find a trade partner for him. I mentioned Kyle McCord earlier.
[35:01] Speaker 1: He is the guy replacing Quinn Ewers. Quinn Ewers was
[35:05] Speaker 1: traded for a pick swap. The Dolphins traded a clean
[35:09] Speaker 1: 2028 sixth to get Kyle McCord. I'm actually surprised the
[35:14] Speaker 1: Packers gave him up just because he had such an
[35:17] Speaker 1: awesome preseason that I thought Matt LaFleur would look at
[35:20] Speaker 1: it like, hey, here's a guy maybe we could have
[35:22] Speaker 1: as our two slash three for a couple of years
[35:25] Speaker 1: at very cheap price that I'm developing.
[35:28] Speaker 2: I mean, he looked gangbuster.
[35:29] Speaker 1: He's kind of a feather in Matt LaFleur's cap that
[35:32] Speaker 1: he looked so bad in Philadelphia last year. And you
[35:34] Speaker 1: have him like he was one of the preseason MVPs,
[35:37] Speaker 1: but it shows you how little they valued that because
[35:39] Speaker 1: they just they still just gave him up for a
[35:41] Speaker 1: twenty twenty eight. And he presumably is the the Dolphins
[35:46] Speaker 1: backup and Dolphins like you can do something other than
[35:49] Speaker 1: just go get old Packers backup quarterbacks. Jeff Halfley, you know,
[35:53] Speaker 1: you're allowed to do that.
[35:55] Speaker 2: Yeah.
[35:55] Speaker 3: And they have Tyrod Taylor there, too.
[35:58] Speaker 4: And I think part of it probably is who's going
[36:01] Speaker 4: to run the scout team better because you need a
[36:04] Speaker 4: player who's going to be able to do that. And
[36:06] Speaker 4: you're not necessarily thinking about his development long term. Um,
[36:10] Speaker 4: you are instead thinking about who's going to run your
[36:13] Speaker 4: scout team. And it's one of those teams where it's like,
[36:16] Speaker 4: I think Tyrod is a great backup. And I think
[36:18] Speaker 4: that he does a lot of the things that Matt
[36:20] Speaker 4: LaFleur wants his backup quarterbacks to do. But I don't
[36:24] Speaker 4: think that Matt LaFleur is, is wanting to get back
[36:26] Speaker 4: in the quarterback development business and then have someone else
[36:29] Speaker 4: pay the guy that you just developed for a few years,
[36:31] Speaker 4: you know? Yeah.
[36:32] Speaker 2: That's that I get. That's fair. Um, you're right.
[36:36] Speaker 1: I just thought they'd keep three quarterbacks because quarterbacks is
[36:38] Speaker 1: so important, but To me, when you make a trade
[36:40] Speaker 1: like that, it's because you don't believe in your heart
[36:43] Speaker 1: Kyle McCord could be your long-term backup. And so they
[36:46] Speaker 1: essentially disagreed with Miami's assessment. Jeff Halfley had some interesting
[36:50] Speaker 1: quotes after their preseason game, which I wanted to throw
[36:53] Speaker 1: to you as.
[36:55] Speaker 3: Ms.
[36:55] Speaker 2: Dolphins on this podcast. Okay.
[36:58] Speaker 1: He said, no, I appreciated these comments, by the way.
[37:02] Speaker 1: In other news, by the way, for the Dolphins before
[37:04] Speaker 1: we get to half of these comments, they put Kenneth
[37:06] Speaker 1: Grant on injured reserve designated to return. So that's a
[37:09] Speaker 1: serious injury for their defensive tackle.
[37:11] Speaker 2: First round pick.
[37:12] Speaker 1: They had one of the most surprising cuts to me
[37:15] Speaker 1: of the day with Tyrell Dodson, who is a longtime
[37:18] Speaker 1: starter for them. Jacob Rodriguez will be the starter there.
[37:21] Speaker 1: as a rookie, which isn't a shock, but Dodson is
[37:24] Speaker 1: a good player. He'll get picked up somewhere. Hefley said
[37:27] Speaker 1: after the preseason game that success this year will not
[37:30] Speaker 1: be measured in wins and losses. And he went on
[37:34] Speaker 1: from there talking about what was going to be important
[37:37] Speaker 1: was seeing how much they could develop their players, especially
[37:40] Speaker 1: their young players. Not a surprise that that's how they're thinking, Jordan.
[37:46] Speaker 1: Rare to hear an organization and a coach say, be
[37:50] Speaker 1: so straightforward with this year is not about wins and losses.
[37:55] Speaker 2: I appreciate it. Yeah.
[37:57] Speaker 4: He's telling the truth because how could you look at
[37:59] Speaker 4: this roster and think anything else? Honestly, what really annoyed
[38:03] Speaker 4: me actually was watching some of the takes on this
[38:08] Speaker 4: or the social media on this, which was, oh, wow,
[38:11] Speaker 4: they're admitting they're tanking or whatever.
[38:13] Speaker 3: Like, No, this is the, this is.
[38:15] Speaker 4: The phase of the rebuild where you don't set expectations
[38:19] Speaker 4: on the roster that you have. And everybody is very,
[38:22] Speaker 4: very clear on what this team is and what their
[38:26] Speaker 4: goal is to get better over the course of a season.
[38:29] Speaker 2: That's it.
[38:30] Speaker 4: Do you know, it's for these young players too. And
[38:32] Speaker 4: some of them who I thought really flashed positively in the,
[38:35] Speaker 4: in the preseason for these young players, that's maybe the
[38:38] Speaker 4: best thing you can do for them as a head
[38:40] Speaker 4: coach is to just totally remove Any pressure, any expectations
[38:44] Speaker 4: and say, go out there and get better every single week.
[38:48] Speaker 4: And that is how we will grade your time here.
[38:51] Speaker 4: Like that's that's one of the it's a gift you
[38:54] Speaker 4: do not get in the NFL.
[38:55] Speaker 3: You just don't.
[38:57] Speaker 2: I like it. And I hope those quotes aren't thrown
[38:59] Speaker 2: back at them. They won't be.
[39:00] Speaker 1: And I think everyone there understands them. Even the veterans
[39:03] Speaker 1: that they got on board to sign long term contracts
[39:06] Speaker 1: like Jordan Brooks, like Devani Chan.
[39:08] Speaker 2: I think, understand that. And I think they've been sweet
[39:10] Speaker 2: with everything. So I'm with you.
[39:12] Speaker 1: I think they've approached it the right way, whether it
[39:14] Speaker 1: all works out like that comes down to how good
[39:17] Speaker 1: their player evaluation and development is in terms of the draft.
[39:20] Speaker 1: And we'll find out about that as we go.
[39:22] Speaker 2: All right.
[39:22] Speaker 1: The rest of the news, there's just like a firestorm
[39:26] Speaker 1: of transactions.
[39:26] Speaker 2: And you're right.
[39:27] Speaker 1: Some are happening now. Cater Kohu was cut by the Chiefs.
[39:30] Speaker 1: So while you were talking before you told me about
[39:32] Speaker 1: the Chiefs, that was surprising news to me. And these
[39:34] Speaker 1: are just like the little veteran news. Kier Elam, who's
[39:37] Speaker 1: a first round pick from just three years ago, might
[39:39] Speaker 1: be out of the league now. That's less surprising. He
[39:41] Speaker 1: got cut by the Chiefs. So did Emmanuel Agba, familiar name.
[39:44] Speaker 1: But Cater Kohu was a guy that just hasn't been
[39:48] Speaker 1: able to get over injuries and was a guy I
[39:50] Speaker 1: thought would have a big role for the Chiefs when
[39:52] Speaker 1: they first signed him, and now he does not even
[39:54] Speaker 1: make the team. Speaking of fun slot corners, Kyler Gordon
[39:58] Speaker 1: for the Bears, placed on the PUP list. Jalen Jones,
[40:02] Speaker 1: one of two Jalen Joneses in the NFL, don't know
[40:04] Speaker 1: if you're tracking that situation because it confused me today,
[40:09] Speaker 1: was placed on injured reserve.
[40:10] Speaker 2: He was a key reserve.
[40:12] Speaker 1: We've been talking about their secondary is really banged up
[40:15] Speaker 1: in the Kyler Gordon news continues to get worse. PUP
[40:18] Speaker 1: into the season means you miss at least the first,
[40:22] Speaker 1: what is it, four to five games of the season.
[40:24] Speaker 1: I think then you can start practicing and possibly return.
[40:27] Speaker 1: So Gordon's going to be out for a while. They
[40:30] Speaker 1: also traded Gervon Dexter, who was a high pick a
[40:34] Speaker 1: couple years ago. One of Ryan Poles' misses, and he's
[40:38] Speaker 1: had some pretty big misses with guys up front. um
[40:42] Speaker 1: and but he started 19 games uh a year ago
[40:45] Speaker 1: every single game they played he started uh they traded
[40:47] Speaker 1: him to the falcons for a fifth rounder and clark
[40:51] Speaker 1: phillips so i look at their front and the names
[40:56] Speaker 1: don't inspire you i just hope they they know what
[40:59] Speaker 1: they're doing i i trust their evaluation of gravon dexter
[41:02] Speaker 1: that it wasn't going to work out they've had him
[41:03] Speaker 1: for a number of years but the names behind them,
[41:07] Speaker 1: including Grady Jarrett, you know, don't make you think that's
[41:09] Speaker 1: a plus position.
[41:11] Speaker 2: And then on the edge, it's similar to that.
[41:13] Speaker 4: Galaxy brain thinking other teams score as fast as possible
[41:17] Speaker 4: so that we get the ball in our hands as
[41:18] Speaker 4: many times as possible. No, I mean, I, one of
[41:22] Speaker 4: the best posts that I saw about this Gervon Dexter
[41:25] Speaker 4: situation was, I believe it was my colleague, Ted Wynn,
[41:29] Speaker 4: who said, do the bears know something about their defensive tackle.
[41:32] Speaker 3: Depth that we don't know?
[41:33] Speaker 4: And I, this certainly seems like they think they do.
[41:38] Speaker 3: I'm not saying they do, but that they think they do.
[41:41] Speaker 4: And I would say I do think that the, I mean,
[41:44] Speaker 4: I always will love Grady Jarrett.
[41:46] Speaker 3: He's one of my favorite players of all time. I
[41:49] Speaker 3: don't know if you knew that.
[41:50] Speaker 4: And also Neville Gallimore, not a bad like rotational D line. Again,
[41:55] Speaker 4: these are all guys who you're like, ooh, in a rotation,
[41:58] Speaker 4: I could really see that working out.
[41:59] Speaker 3: But the problem is, is it's not really that.
[42:01] Speaker 1: Yeah, Contavious Street is probably DT3 there. James Lynch is there.
[42:07] Speaker 2: We'll see.
[42:08] Speaker 1: It's because they're surrounded by an edge group that you're
[42:10] Speaker 1: not sure about. Their defense is a huge question mark
[42:12] Speaker 1: coming into the season. They cut Jedrick Wills, by the way.
[42:15] Speaker 1: the former first-round pick of the Browns who was trying
[42:17] Speaker 1: to make a comeback after missing all of last year.
[42:20] Speaker 1: He is the odd man out in that four-way tackle
[42:22] Speaker 1: battle that they have. Marcus Davenport, the former Saint, was
[42:26] Speaker 1: also cut by that team. Also getting cut, the Bucs
[42:29] Speaker 1: cut Jake Browning, who then told them, I am not
[42:33] Speaker 1: going to your practice squad. He presumably has an option elsewhere.
[42:37] Speaker 1: either someone else's practice squad or someone else's active roster.
[42:40] Speaker 1: He probably wasn't thrilled about getting cut. But one of
[42:43] Speaker 1: my favorite stories of a guy making the team, UDFA,
[42:47] Speaker 1: Jalen Daniels, the prospect from Kansas is their QB too
[42:51] Speaker 1: behind Baker Mayfield. He had an awesome preseason. He was
[42:55] Speaker 1: fun to watch. I mean, again, it's you're put, you're
[42:58] Speaker 1: just hoping Baker stays healthy. If not, they'll at least
[43:01] Speaker 1: be like, wow, Jalen Daniels is starting an NFL game
[43:04] Speaker 1: in 2026. And unless they bring in some sort of
[43:06] Speaker 1: veteran and, And they could be a team where, like,
[43:08] Speaker 1: if you told me they got Andy Dalton for basically
[43:11] Speaker 1: nothing tomorrow, that would kind of make sense.
[43:14] Speaker 4: I'm on vibes watch for the Bucks quarterback room, too,
[43:16] Speaker 4: which I think this is a part of it, is, like,
[43:20] Speaker 4: make everybody feel as good as possible. And then as
[43:25] Speaker 4: Baker Mayfield continues to want to get paid, just, you know,
[43:29] Speaker 4: I guess we're on notice watch for a lot of
[43:30] Speaker 4: different things with a lot of connotations of the word notice.
[43:33] Speaker 1: We are also noticing... A viewer who is right to
[43:37] Speaker 1: point out Jordan Vanderberg is what the Bears know. Yes,
[43:41] Speaker 1: a young player that Brian Baldinger shouted out on their
[43:44] Speaker 1: defensive line. So sometimes it's these young players that you
[43:48] Speaker 1: never heard of that they're developing, and maybe it's Vanderberg.
[43:51] Speaker 1: That's a Bears name if I ever heard one. Let's
[43:54] Speaker 1: go to the Cardinals who put James Conner on injured reserve,
[43:57] Speaker 1: designated to return not surprising news. We'll see if he
[44:02] Speaker 1: plays for them or not. It's just been a really
[44:05] Speaker 1: serious injury he's trying to come back from. They also
[44:07] Speaker 1: cut Trey Benson. So as I mentioned last week, they
[44:10] Speaker 1: are quite thin at running back, even though going into
[44:13] Speaker 1: the offseason, they had so many guys. They cut B.J. Ojolari,
[44:15] Speaker 1: who was a high day two pick a few years ago.
[44:18] Speaker 1: Tip Ryman, who is a tight end. I know you
[44:21] Speaker 1: like a lot. You mentioned that earlier that created. a
[44:24] Speaker 1: tight end shortage for them. He is going to the
[44:26] Speaker 1: PUP list. Christian Gonzalez, hashtag noticing that him and the
[44:29] Speaker 1: Patriots don't seem close on a contract. And Gonzalez, who's
[44:33] Speaker 1: very soft-spoken and very diplomatic, the most out-of-bounds thing said
[44:38] Speaker 1: in this entire contract standoff was actually by Patriots ownership,
[44:42] Speaker 1: who kind of called out Gonzalez for not taking a
[44:45] Speaker 1: contract that would make him the highest paid cornerback in
[44:47] Speaker 1: the league, even though we know they're probably fudging the numbers.
[44:50] Speaker 1: And Gonzalez just seems a little less... happy about the
[44:54] Speaker 1: situation now and just something to watch as they enter
[44:57] Speaker 1: the season. I don't buy the Patriots kind of blogosphere
[45:02] Speaker 1: panicking of like, could Christian Gonzalez be on the trade block?
[45:05] Speaker 2: I really, really doubt it.
[45:06] Speaker 1: But there's a chance he just plays under his current
[45:07] Speaker 1: contract and isn't happy about it. They also put their
[45:11] Speaker 1: swing tackle Marcus Bryant to injured reserve, which means their
[45:14] Speaker 1: first round pick Caleb Lomu will have to step up
[45:16] Speaker 1: Harold Landry, who's a starting edge for them. is on PUP,
[45:19] Speaker 1: so he's out for at least the first month of
[45:21] Speaker 1: the season. And they showed you where they're not feeling
[45:24] Speaker 1: comfortable about their roster by trading for a running back
[45:27] Speaker 1: from Arizona, trading for a tackle from Minnesota. I'm not
[45:31] Speaker 1: going to pretend I have takes on these guys, but
[45:33] Speaker 1: it just shows they do not feel good about those
[45:35] Speaker 1: positions right now.
[45:36] Speaker 2: What did Mike Rabel call their depth? I forget.
[45:40] Speaker 3: Not good.
[45:42] Speaker 1: Yes. I think it was dog poop. I think it
[45:44] Speaker 1: was dog poop. Yeah, and just we're not very good
[45:48] Speaker 1: right now. And their third preseason game supported. It was
[45:51] Speaker 1: funny because after he said that, you know, they don't
[45:54] Speaker 1: send out any starters for their third preseason game. And
[45:56] Speaker 1: they get boat raced by the Browns and Dylan Gabriel.
[45:59] Speaker 3: He's like standing there like, see?
[46:02] Speaker 2: That's right. A little worried about that week one game
[46:05] Speaker 2: in Seattle.
[46:07] Speaker 1: You just want a close game, even if you're not
[46:09] Speaker 1: a Patriots fan in week one for the kickoff game.
[46:12] Speaker 1: One thing I noticed was a fun story for the Bengals.
[46:16] Speaker 1: Dante Myers made the team. And so they kind of
[46:18] Speaker 1: swapped out some of their depth wide receivers. I think
[46:21] Speaker 1: this might be the best wide receiver room top to
[46:23] Speaker 1: bottom in the entire league. Colby Young and Dante Myers
[46:26] Speaker 1: both look great in preseason. And so they got rid
[46:28] Speaker 1: of some of their old guys. Charlie Jones has been
[46:30] Speaker 1: a returner for them for a while. Mitchell Tinsley was
[46:32] Speaker 1: a fun camp story in the past. But Dante Myers
[46:35] Speaker 1: was the guy we talked about in one of our
[46:37] Speaker 1: Sunday shows who had no D1 offers. who was just
[46:42] Speaker 1: working a regular job, who paid out of his own
[46:46] Speaker 1: money $ 100 to try out for the CFL. And from
[46:51] Speaker 1: that tryout, made a CFL team and then balled out.
[46:55] Speaker 1: Very undersized. He's like 5'7, something like that, receiver. And
[47:00] Speaker 1: he makes this team. And they're pretty excited about him.
[47:03] Speaker 1: And it has a lot of similarities to me to
[47:05] Speaker 1: the Andrew Hawkins story with Cincinnati, who had kind of a,
[47:10] Speaker 1: Some details were a little different, but the undersized and
[47:13] Speaker 1: coming through the other leagues and being out of football.
[47:15] Speaker 1: I love the short Kings, Jordan, and Dante Myers.
[47:19] Speaker 4: I know you do, Greg.
[47:19] Speaker 2: He's my new guy.
[47:20] Speaker 3: He's my new guy.
[47:21] Speaker 4: I remember when I told you a couple weeks ago
[47:23] Speaker 4: about how you're going to start to see the Bengals
[47:26] Speaker 4: front office flex a lot of what their abilities are
[47:30] Speaker 4: and what they can do and basically leave the entire
[47:32] Speaker 4: onus on the coaching staff to make all of this
[47:34] Speaker 4: work finally with this roster.
[47:36] Speaker 1: Mm-hmm.
[47:38] Speaker 4: Um, this is one of those things also like a very,
[47:41] Speaker 4: very small scouting and front office executive staff famously. So
[47:45] Speaker 4: are infamously. So I guess in Cincinnati and they're like, look,
[47:49] Speaker 4: look who we can find. This guy is gold. Like, look,
[47:52] Speaker 4: you know, among all of our other things we did look.
[47:55] Speaker 4: And so I just, I told you, I said that
[47:57] Speaker 4: they're going to start flexing left and right here just
[47:59] Speaker 4: to make it extremely clear who's on the line here.
[48:03] Speaker 1: He's really not that small. I was just wish casting.
[48:06] Speaker 1: He's listed five, 11, one 86. That's pretty normal.
[48:08] Speaker 4: Yeah.
[48:08] Speaker 2: What did you say?
[48:09] Speaker 3: He was five, seven. No, you're five, seven. No, you're
[48:12] Speaker 3: not five, seven.
[48:13] Speaker 2: You're five, four, five, seven, five, six, five, six.
[48:15] Speaker 4: Yeah.
[48:16] Speaker 1: Um, yeah, I guess, I guess he's no baby Hawk,
[48:19] Speaker 1: but the, the, he had the, the conversation with the
[48:22] Speaker 1: media afterwards where he had the tearful call with his
[48:26] Speaker 1: entire family and they were on and he starts crying
[48:29] Speaker 1: immediately and, He said then once he cries, they cry.
[48:32] Speaker 2: And that stuff is great.
[48:34] Speaker 4: Yeah.
[48:34] Speaker 2: He's on the team.
[48:35] Speaker 1: Joe Fanano from the Ravens, the UConn undrafted quarterback, made
[48:39] Speaker 1: their team. That intrigued me. The Seahawks, as I mentioned,
[48:43] Speaker 1: finally signed Terryon Arnold. He's immediately placed on the commissioner's exemplars.
[48:47] Speaker 1: John Schneider spoke about the long-term aspects of this signing.
[48:51] Speaker 1: 2027 could really be the vision, I think, for Terryon Arnold.
[48:57] Speaker 1: He's not going to be a part of this year's
[48:58] Speaker 1: team anytime soon, maybe not at all. They traded a
[49:02] Speaker 1: sixth-round pick from a guy who was getting some buzz
[49:05] Speaker 1: when we were at Chargers camp, an undrafted rookie named
[49:07] Speaker 1: Avery Smith. I know Joe Hortiz is great, but wouldn't
[49:11] Speaker 1: you be a little worried about trading a cornerback to
[49:13] Speaker 1: the Seahawks?
[49:15] Speaker 2: I wouldn't want to do it.
[49:16] Speaker 4: Well, and his college tape is great.
[49:20] Speaker 3: He is sticky.
[49:21] Speaker 4: He, he makes plays. The fact that a guy like
[49:24] Speaker 4: that is going to Mike McDonald. Okay.
[49:28] Speaker 3: Let's, let's see how that works out for the chargers.
[49:30] Speaker 4: I guess.
[49:31] Speaker 1: I think they got a sixth with, you know, if
[49:33] Speaker 1: you're just looking brass tacks, they felt like their secondary
[49:36] Speaker 1: room was deep. You know, you have an undrafted guy
[49:39] Speaker 1: and you pick up a sixth round pick. I guess
[49:41] Speaker 1: that's a win. But the much bigger win is if
[49:43] Speaker 1: you find an undrafted guy that can contribute to you.
[49:46] Speaker 1: So I'm surprised they didn't do that. Tony Jefferson was
[49:49] Speaker 1: going to be part of that crowded secondary. We heard
[49:52] Speaker 1: early in the day that they were going to cut
[49:53] Speaker 1: him from Adam Schefter. Then later in the day, they
[49:55] Speaker 1: made a couple of trades and that opened up room
[49:57] Speaker 1: for Tony Jefferson. So our favorite 34-year-old.
[50:00] Speaker 2: Unk is on the team.
[50:02] Speaker 1: 34. Just the prime of athletic life, right?
[50:07] Speaker 2: Jordan Rodrigue. Famous 34 year old.
[50:09] Speaker 3: For some.
[50:11] Speaker 1: I mean, you're maybe not athletic like playing, but how
[50:14] Speaker 1: about working for the athletic and doing three jobs right now?
[50:18] Speaker 1: You're just you're just entering your prime. You're like, I'm
[50:21] Speaker 1: trying to think of a comp. You're three Drake May
[50:24] Speaker 1: right now, you know?
[50:25] Speaker 2: Oh, my God. That's the nicest thing I've ever said
[50:29] Speaker 2: to you.
[50:29] Speaker 3: That's the nicest thing you've ever said to me.
[50:32] Speaker 1: The Seahawks also cut Trevon Diggs, by the way. I
[50:34] Speaker 1: don't want to linger too much on this compliment and,
[50:37] Speaker 1: you know, get a big head there.
[50:39] Speaker 2: Monterey Foster.
[50:41] Speaker 1: Everyone, like literally my son, who's into cut down day
[50:45] Speaker 1: and stuff, did not want any Seahawks hard knock spoilers.
[50:48] Speaker 1: But Monterey Foster, who's probably the most likable kind of
[50:52] Speaker 1: under the radar Seahawks guy in hard knocks, has made
[50:56] Speaker 1: the initial roster. So I'm looking forward to that being shown.
[50:58] Speaker 1: And hopefully he, Continues to make the roster because, as
[51:01] Speaker 1: we say, these things are written in pencil right now.
[51:04] Speaker 1: The Cowboys cut the player from the Navajo Nation, Shaz Pete,
[51:10] Speaker 1: who had that great locker room speech.
[51:12] Speaker 4: Amazing speech.
[51:13] Speaker 2: I hope he lands on their practice. Oh, my gosh.
[51:15] Speaker 2: I hope he lands on that practice squad.
[51:16] Speaker 1: More surprising was Jaden Blue, their fifth-round pick from a
[51:20] Speaker 1: year ago at running back being cut. I mentioned Nate
[51:22] Speaker 1: Thomas got traded to the Texans. Camden Brown was an
[51:25] Speaker 1: undrafted rookie at receiver who made a bunch of big
[51:27] Speaker 1: catches in the preseason. He made the team. Sam Williams
[51:30] Speaker 1: was a high pick a few years ago. He got
[51:33] Speaker 1: cut in a pretty crowded edge room. The Raiders had
[51:36] Speaker 1: some disappointing edge news. Kieran Crawford was one of the
[51:40] Speaker 1: first picks of the third round. Maybe the first is
[51:43] Speaker 1: out for the season. They put him on injured reserve.
[51:46] Speaker 1: That was disappointing. I had no clue that that was
[51:48] Speaker 1: a serious injury. I thought he was going to be
[51:50] Speaker 1: a factor for them this year. They also only kept
[51:53] Speaker 1: three running backs right now. So that's if you're If
[51:56] Speaker 1: you're in fantasy leagues with Ashton Gentry, that might be
[51:58] Speaker 1: a good sign, although they could always look to see
[52:00] Speaker 1: who got cut over the last few days. But good
[52:03] Speaker 1: news for Gentry.
[52:04] Speaker 4: It's also a huge sign of what they think of
[52:06] Speaker 4: Mike Washington, too. And they think very, very, very highly
[52:11] Speaker 4: of him, as you would hope, based on the potential
[52:14] Speaker 4: that he's shown.
[52:15] Speaker 3: Been doing some digging around on that one. They love
[52:18] Speaker 3: that guy.
[52:19] Speaker 1: Another couple big runs in that preseason game. I.
[52:24] Speaker 2: Got a little overexcited.
[52:25] Speaker 1: And said, like, I'm not sure that Dash and Denty
[52:32] Speaker 1: is better than him.
[52:33] Speaker 2: Just like, period.
[52:33] Speaker 3: Oh, Greg.
[52:37] Speaker 2: I mean.
[52:37] Speaker 4: You do.
[52:37] Speaker 3: This is. I do.
[52:39] Speaker 4: Sometimes when you do, you do get excited. And then,
[52:42] Speaker 4: you know, sometimes things like that come out. Sometimes compliments
[52:44] Speaker 4: come out.
[52:45] Speaker 3: So I just sort of like sit back and let
[52:47] Speaker 3: you cook a little bit.
[52:48] Speaker 1: I'm going to stand on it. Everyone was like, well,
[52:51] Speaker 1: let's see how he does it. You know, it's not
[52:53] Speaker 1: against third stringers. If you're watching the game, it's about
[52:57] Speaker 1: the traits. Like, when you're watching the preseason, the juice
[53:00] Speaker 1: is the juice. You can see it. And the thing
[53:03] Speaker 1: I didn't like about Jenty last year sometimes, and I
[53:06] Speaker 1: know he broke a lot of tackles, I think he's
[53:07] Speaker 1: going to be a really good pro. My overarching point was,
[53:11] Speaker 1: if you told me they're in the same bucket of, like,
[53:14] Speaker 1: good running backs in the NFL... That's around the same bucket.
[53:18] Speaker 1: That is the expected outcome I have now. That's how
[53:21] Speaker 1: highly I think of Mike Washington.
[53:22] Speaker 2: But maybe I'll be wrong. They're going to use him, though.
[53:26] Speaker 2: You're the one. You should be patting yourself on the back.
[53:28] Speaker 1: You said he had some stuff to him, you know,
[53:30] Speaker 1: right off the bat.
[53:31] Speaker 4: Yeah.
[53:32] Speaker 2: And he does.
[53:33] Speaker 4: I saw him play against the Texans' defense. I'm a believer. Now,
[53:37] Speaker 4: I'm not going to get as carried away as you are,
[53:39] Speaker 4: but that's the old Roderick Hedge right there.
[53:42] Speaker 3: Never have a take.
[53:44] Speaker 2: Our friend... That's the bad podcasting. You've got to have takes.
[53:47] Speaker 1: Our friend Chris Wesseling, our old friend, would always say
[53:51] Speaker 1: that the one position in the preseason you can scout
[53:54] Speaker 1: easier than others is running back.
[53:55] Speaker 2: It's true.
[53:55] Speaker 1: Because it's the only time when it actually matters, actual gameplay.
[53:58] Speaker 1: And you can see it with your eyes, the ones
[54:00] Speaker 1: that are going to stick.
[54:01] Speaker 4: That's why I will be really surprised if the Cowboys,
[54:05] Speaker 4: among other teams, are not a team that's keeping an
[54:07] Speaker 4: eye on the fact that the Rams just had to
[54:10] Speaker 4: cut Dean Connors, the back out of Houston.
[54:13] Speaker 2: Good call.
[54:14] Speaker 4: I'm on noticing watch on that one, too.
[54:16] Speaker 1: I think there's going to be a lot of quarterbacks
[54:19] Speaker 1: and running backs changing position and changing rosters over the
[54:24] Speaker 1: next few days.
[54:24] Speaker 2: Some claims at those positions. I have a comment here.
[54:28] Speaker 1: That Washington's upright running style reminds him of Matt Forte. Now,
[54:32] Speaker 1: Matt Forte, you know, one of the greatest receiving backs
[54:36] Speaker 1: of all time, I think, like of my lifetime covering
[54:39] Speaker 1: the league, like so good in pass pro and catching
[54:42] Speaker 1: the ball. But if Washington can run like Matt Forte,
[54:45] Speaker 1: one of my absolute favorites, I see it. I do
[54:48] Speaker 1: see the vision as just like a tougher than you
[54:51] Speaker 1: think upright runner. The Commanders, and we're wrapping up here,
[54:55] Speaker 1: just a few more teams to get to. Cut Julian Good-Jones.
[54:59] Speaker 1: Hashtag noticing the guy they had snapping the ball to
[55:01] Speaker 1: Jane Daniels as the starter in that preseason game. Didn't
[55:05] Speaker 1: even make the team. That's a bad sign for the team.
[55:08] Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah.
[55:09] Speaker 1: That they just don't know what they're doing at center.
[55:11] Speaker 1: I know they hope Nick Allegretti gets healthy, but I
[55:13] Speaker 1: think they might be looking for a center on the
[55:15] Speaker 1: waiver wire.
[55:16] Speaker 2: It's like, good luck. Everybody is.
[55:18] Speaker 4: Right.
[55:18] Speaker 2: Everybody is.
[55:20] Speaker 3: There's so many teams that need a center or a
[55:22] Speaker 3: backup center right now. It's crazy.
[55:24] Speaker 1: And they're looking for like a starting center. And I
[55:26] Speaker 1: know Nick Allegretti might get healthy, but he hasn't been.
[55:29] Speaker 1: So we'll see. And even he hasn't played much. Trey
[55:31] Speaker 1: Amos was their top cornerback coming into the offseason. He's
[55:34] Speaker 1: on injured reserve designated to return. That's really disappointing for them.
[55:37] Speaker 1: Tank Dell is on injured reserve designated to return. Less
[55:40] Speaker 1: disappointing for him. I think it was always going to
[55:43] Speaker 1: be a long process, him coming back. You know, the
[55:45] Speaker 1: fact that it is designated to return. makes you believe
[55:49] Speaker 1: that they think Tank Dell will get there eventually this season.
[55:52] Speaker 1: There's only a few of those slots available throughout the season,
[55:55] Speaker 1: so they wouldn't use one on him unless they thought
[55:57] Speaker 1: he was coming back, but he won't be available early
[55:59] Speaker 1: in the season.
[56:00] Speaker 2: Jared Wayne made that team.
[56:02] Speaker 1: He's bounced off their practice squad for a number of years,
[56:05] Speaker 1: but he had a good camp.
[56:05] Speaker 2: He made the team at wide receiver.
[56:07] Speaker 1: The Panthers kept Haynes Kang on the roster, our Hall
[56:12] Speaker 1: of Fame game hero, Haynes Kang. The Hall of Fame
[56:14] Speaker 1: game matters, Jordan. Carson Beck, I mean, he was always
[56:17] Speaker 1: going to make the team.
[56:18] Speaker 2: Never forget.
[56:19] Speaker 1: Haynes King, I think, made the team basically off that
[56:21] Speaker 1: day because he's been barely healthy since. I think he's
[56:24] Speaker 1: back out on the field now, but he made the
[56:27] Speaker 1: Panthers team. Are you excited for the Haynes King era
[56:29] Speaker 1: in Carolina?
[56:31] Speaker 4: Sure.
[56:32] Speaker 2: I'm feeling bad.
[56:32] Speaker 1: Eric, this is where Eric is like, this is the
[56:34] Speaker 1: last time a lot of these guys are going to
[56:35] Speaker 1: get mentioned on the show.
[56:36] Speaker 2: You know what?
[56:37] Speaker 1: But they're people too. They had some injury news in
[56:39] Speaker 1: Carolina too. Tershawn Wharton and Ikim Kanwu to the PUP list.
[56:46] Speaker 1: Not a surprise for either of them, especially Wharton, though
[56:49] Speaker 1: I was keeping an eye on who hasn't been healthy
[56:50] Speaker 1: at all. Taylor Moten to the non-football injury list. He's
[56:53] Speaker 1: expected to miss at least half the season. The Browns
[56:55] Speaker 1: I mentioned kept four quarterbacks for a second, and then
[56:59] Speaker 1: they put Dylan Gabriel on injured reserve. Talon Green, the
[57:03] Speaker 1: dual threat Arkansas quarterback, keep an eye on him. If
[57:10] Speaker 1: we were still doing sandwiches, Jordan, or maybe if we
[57:15] Speaker 1: stand on the tiny table.
[57:16] Speaker 2: To make predictions like we did once, I would.
[57:19] Speaker 1: Stand on the tiny table and say, Talon Green is
[57:23] Speaker 1: the quarterback that the least amount of people know about
[57:27] Speaker 1: that will start a game in the NFL in the
[57:29] Speaker 1: year 2026. Like, Talon Green, week 18 starter for the
[57:34] Speaker 1: Cleveland Browns.
[57:34] Speaker 2: Book it. It's happening.
[57:36] Speaker 3: Okay, I'll write it down.
[57:37] Speaker 1: It's like, by the end, it's like, they've seen enough
[57:40] Speaker 1: of the other guys. Let's just roll with Talon Green
[57:43] Speaker 1: for the last couple of games.
[57:44] Speaker 2: Of the season.
[57:45] Speaker 3: I will write this down. Do you have a pen
[57:47] Speaker 3: I could borrow?
[57:49] Speaker 1: No, you've taken all my pens. You haven't, you know,
[57:53] Speaker 1: paid customs for them, and then you've lost them.
[57:57] Speaker 2: Final news.
[57:58] Speaker 1: Christian Kirk of the 49ers going to PUP list. Michael Williams,
[58:02] Speaker 1: their first round pick from a year ago. And Isaac
[58:04] Speaker 1: Garendo to injured reserve designated to return. And then they
[58:10] Speaker 1: did cut Dijon Love from their roster.
[58:14] Speaker 2: I thought he could make it.
[58:15] Speaker 1: If you haven't been following the story, he runs some
[58:20] Speaker 1: great routes for the ladies on the beach.
[58:24] Speaker 2: But yeah, didn't make the team.
[58:25] Speaker 4: It's that grapevine, you know, that really must have got
[58:29] Speaker 4: some ladies going.
[58:30] Speaker 3: You know, that just was, what a game changer.
[58:33] Speaker 1: My favorite thing about Dijon Love, who's had one of
[58:36] Speaker 1: the most underrated careers of anyone over the last handful
[58:39] Speaker 1: of years, is that he gives back to the community too.
[58:41] Speaker 1: He had a turkey giveaway last year. I don't know
[58:43] Speaker 1: if you saw that Instagram post, but he had a
[58:45] Speaker 1: turkey giveaway. So I hope that's not the end of
[58:48] Speaker 1: Dijon Love's career, as we hope all these guys who
[58:51] Speaker 1: got cut today have jobs. A few teams still haven't posted. rosters,
[58:54] Speaker 1: but we got to get out of here, Jordan. This
[58:56] Speaker 1: was a lot of fun.
[58:57] Speaker 2: We got to get ready for our next show.
[58:59] Speaker 3: Quarterback Island is back.
[59:01] Speaker 2: Quarterback Island is returning.
[59:03] Speaker 1: Not only that, it is the return of Colleen Wolfe
[59:07] Speaker 1: to the studio.
[59:08] Speaker 2: Let's go. Yay.
[59:10] Speaker 3: I can't wait to see her. Summer of Connie is over.
[59:13] Speaker 2: And let's be real.
[59:14] Speaker 1: We don't have Weisha on the show as often as
[59:17] Speaker 1: we would like anymore either. Big ESPN employee Weisha in
[59:21] Speaker 1: the mix too. So that'll be our show. On Monday,
[59:23] Speaker 1: let's hit the music. Let's get out of here.
[59:26] Speaker 2: Big week. We have QB Island.
[59:29] Speaker 1: We have our win totals where we draft the teams
[59:32] Speaker 1: basically predicting our record. And then Patrick Claibon returning to
[59:35] Speaker 1: the studio as well with Jordan. And that's where we
[59:38] Speaker 1: get her to actually make takes. Pick a Super Bowl winner.
[59:42] Speaker 1: Pick an MVP. All coming up during Predictions Week.
[59:45] Speaker 2: We'll see you then.
