[0:04] Speaker 1: Welcome to NFL Daily, where we always love to see
[0:08] Speaker 1: three of the biggest superstars in the game getting paid.
[0:11] Speaker 1: I'm Greg Rosenthal with Patrick Claibhon and the Chris Westling
[0:14] Speaker 1: podcast studio. And yes, that that good news. Later in
[0:18] Speaker 1: the show, as I call the big three in the
[0:20] Speaker 1: NFL Derwin James, Nico Collins and Mac Jones, I'll get
[0:25] Speaker 1: in their mind. NFL Daily, all legends, good, good young players. Unfortunately,
[0:31] Speaker 1: we got to start off the news today with news
[0:35] Speaker 1: that we never want to see coming across our timeline.
[0:38] Speaker 1: We're going to do some news and we're also going
[0:41] Speaker 1: to do some fun would you rathers later in the show.
[0:44] Speaker 1: I know Patrick has been furiously coming up with complicated
[0:47] Speaker 1: scenarios for this, but before that, as always, we start
[0:50] Speaker 1: with the news, and we have to start with the
[0:52] Speaker 1: Packers running back. Josh Jacobs getting arrested on five different
[0:58] Speaker 1: charges in relation to assault, felony strangulation was the felony charge.
[1:06] Speaker 1: It arrests thems from an incident on Saturday morning in
[1:10] Speaker 1: which police in Wisconsin were dispatched to a disturbit involving Jacobs.
[1:16] Speaker 1: He was booked also on four misdemeanor counts of assault,
[1:19] Speaker 1: criminal damage to property, disorderly conduct, and intimidation of victim.
[1:26] Speaker 2: Matt Lafleur was asked about it.
[1:28] Speaker 1: The Packers also released the statement that just said they
[1:31] Speaker 1: are aware of the matter. Let's actually listen to Matt
[1:34] Speaker 1: Lafleur after his OTA on Wednesday.
[1:39] Speaker 3: Well, I know there's gonna be a lot of questions
[1:40] Speaker 3: about Josh. I'm gonna stick with the statement that we
[1:44] Speaker 3: put out as an organization and just let the process
[1:47] Speaker 3: play out. Not as far as kickball goes, do you
[1:50] Speaker 3: have to prepare for the possibility that you might be
[1:52] Speaker 3: playing some of this season about him, especially the summer year.
[1:55] Speaker 2: Well, I think a lot of happen that's going to happen.
[1:57] Speaker 4: Between now and then.
[1:59] Speaker 1: Yeah, obviously Josh Bac an important part of that team,
[2:03] Speaker 1: and these are extremely serious charges. Just to spell out
[2:07] Speaker 1: the process of all this happened, how this happens. The
[2:10] Speaker 1: Brown County District Attorney's office also said the investigation into
[2:14] Speaker 1: Jacob's remains open and ongoing. After reviewing the available evidence
[2:19] Speaker 1: in the case, the Brown County District Attorneys is not
[2:22] Speaker 1: yet prepared to make a formal charging decision, so they've
[2:26] Speaker 1: requested an additional investigation. Just to be clear, youated, there's
[2:31] Speaker 1: a certain bar that they indicated has to be reached
[2:34] Speaker 1: for him to be brought in. He has since been
[2:38] Speaker 1: let out after posting bond, and we will see if
[2:42] Speaker 1: he has charged any further on the matter.
[2:45] Speaker 3: Yeah, and to me, you know, to go through and
[2:47] Speaker 3: evaluate all these situations first and foremost, hopefully everybody, you know,
[2:52] Speaker 3: the victim in this, we're able to find out what happened.
[2:55] Speaker 3: The Green Bay Packers were able to find out what happened,
[2:58] Speaker 3: and you know, the the legal process, you know, as
[3:01] Speaker 3: it plays out. You know, Josh Jacobs, being a person
[3:03] Speaker 3: with money and privilege, has access to a lot of
[3:06] Speaker 3: things that other people charged in these circumstances.
[3:09] Speaker 4: They may not need.
[3:10] Speaker 3: More information to go back and review and determine whether
[3:12] Speaker 3: or not they want to make any formal charges in
[3:17] Speaker 3: this circumstance. We're not necessarily there yet in terms of
[3:20] Speaker 3: information that we have access to, but hopefully, you know,
[3:24] Speaker 3: we we get some answers at a certain point. I
[3:28] Speaker 3: generally am skeptical that the US criminal legal system provides
[3:32] Speaker 3: those answers in a meaningful capacity, as it is a
[3:34] Speaker 3: net distributor of sexual violence.
[3:36] Speaker 1: And this you know these are domestic violence charges. The
[3:39] Speaker 1: NFL has made kind of a strict rule of how
[3:43] Speaker 1: many games you miss for domestic violence charges. They made
[3:46] Speaker 1: it clear as a league how seriously they take it,
[3:49] Speaker 1: and this is going to be a test case of that.
[3:51] Speaker 1: So we'll be watching what happens with Josh Jacobs moving forward.
[3:55] Speaker 1: Some other notes, just while we're on the Packers, who
[3:58] Speaker 1: you know is having their OTA. Eight more teams are
[4:01] Speaker 1: having OTAs as of Wednesday, I believe it was eleven
[4:05] Speaker 1: that started Tuesday. The whole league is going. It is
[4:08] Speaker 1: basically OT season. I think there's only one or two
[4:10] Speaker 1: that are not on this week. So just a couple
[4:13] Speaker 1: notes because we hadn't heard from Lafleur in a long
[4:15] Speaker 1: time about the players on the field. Zire Franklin is
[4:19] Speaker 1: the one wearing the headset their acquisition from the Colt,
[4:22] Speaker 1: so he's gonna have a big part in their defense
[4:25] Speaker 1: this offseason. Zach Tom they're tackle, not expected to be
[4:29] Speaker 1: back until camp. Micah Parsons is expected to open camp
[4:32] Speaker 1: on the pup list. No surprise there, but Tucker Kraft,
[4:36] Speaker 1: They're vital tight end, may be ready for the start
[4:40] Speaker 1: of camp. According to Lafleur, who, by the way, canceled
[4:44] Speaker 1: all availability which was previously set for his players. With
[4:49] Speaker 1: the Jacobs situation looming, I think that's somewhat unfortunate.
[4:54] Speaker 2: I assume it won't last.
[4:56] Speaker 1: More than one day or or maybe more than this week,
[4:58] Speaker 1: but they wanted Lafleur to be the only voice talking
[5:01] Speaker 1: on that issue today. Let's get to the contract stuff
[5:03] Speaker 1: that I was talking about earlier. Three big deals. Tongue
[5:08] Speaker 1: in cheek a little bit. Mac Jones's deal wasn't that big,
[5:11] Speaker 1: but three big deals to guys who well, I mean literally,
[5:15] Speaker 1: the money wasn't that big for him. Derwin James's money
[5:18] Speaker 1: is massive. Three years, seventy five million dollars on his extension.
[5:23] Speaker 1: I think the key number here fifty seven point five
[5:27] Speaker 1: million dollars guaranteed.
[5:28] Speaker 2: We'll have to look under the hood.
[5:29] Speaker 1: My guess is that's the majority of the next two
[5:33] Speaker 1: years of his salary are probably guaranteed, if not all
[5:37] Speaker 1: of it, plus maybe a little bit into a third.
[5:40] Speaker 1: It's been really fascinating watching his career. There have been
[5:43] Speaker 1: some ups and downs. There's been times where he's one
[5:45] Speaker 1: of the best defensive players in the league. There's other
[5:48] Speaker 1: times where he's hasn't fit with the defense, he's had
[5:50] Speaker 1: a lot of different coordinators, or he's been hurt, and
[5:52] Speaker 1: there's been little dips. So it was great to see
[5:55] Speaker 1: last season and really with Brandon's daily there rather Jesse
[6:01] Speaker 1: Minter there in the Jim Harbaugh era that he has
[6:04] Speaker 1: been just an incredible fit and they're looking to continue that.
[6:07] Speaker 1: I think he is coming off of a high in
[6:09] Speaker 1: terms of his play last season.
[6:11] Speaker 4: Yeah, the Freudian slip there.
[6:12] Speaker 3: Taking us back to this tailor the defensive genius and mastermind,
[6:16] Speaker 3: where I think the most important aspect of a defensive genius.
[6:19] Speaker 3: You have a player who does things that other people
[6:21] Speaker 3: at his position can't do. You have him do those
[6:24] Speaker 3: things and do them successfully and well. And Jesse Mentor
[6:27] Speaker 3: was very very good at that with Derwyn James and
[6:30] Speaker 3: I you know, would hope that you know, Harball is
[6:33] Speaker 3: able to, you know, get this team able to be
[6:37] Speaker 3: in the position to duplicate that success on that side
[6:39] Speaker 3: of the ball, because that's how that's how team buildings
[6:42] Speaker 3: should work. You get somebody that can do stuff and
[6:44] Speaker 3: you have to do it.
[6:45] Speaker 1: I gotta admit I had to Google while you're talking.
[6:48] Speaker 1: I keep forgetting who's the defensive coordinator. And I always
[6:51] Speaker 1: want to say, like, O'Reilly otto parts. I know it's
[6:54] Speaker 1: an Irish name, and that's being stereotypical and unfair to
[6:58] Speaker 1: Chris O'Leary. So the thing I like about him is
[7:02] Speaker 1: that he was with the team earlier, then he goes
[7:05] Speaker 1: into college and then comes back similar to how Minteror
[7:08] Speaker 1: did it. And Ali Connelly has pointed out this is
[7:12] Speaker 1: a specific strategy that the Harbob Brothers have essentially started.
[7:18] Speaker 1: Maybe more coaches will start it where they tell their
[7:20] Speaker 1: assistance go to college, learn some stuff, get a bigger position,
[7:25] Speaker 1: and that can kind of be your way to learn
[7:27] Speaker 1: more and then come back to us. They're using the
[7:29] Speaker 1: college as almost a feeder system and very cool. Now
[7:33] Speaker 1: it's Chris O'Leary who's going to be using similar I
[7:36] Speaker 1: think ideas to what Jesse Mintor had, so that that
[7:38] Speaker 1: bodes well.
[7:39] Speaker 3: For yeah, what's in Western Michigan. I'm saying this to
[7:41] Speaker 3: commit Chris O'Leary to my m as I was struggling
[7:44] Speaker 3: to remember that, you know, Chris son of Patrick and
[7:47] Speaker 3: Julie O'Leary, My apologies for forgetting you, but I will
[7:50] Speaker 3: not yes, so Leary the defensive coordinator of the Los
[7:53] Speaker 3: Angeles Chargers.
[7:55] Speaker 1: Now I'm putting two and two together because you know
[7:57] Speaker 1: who used to work for Western Michigan back in the day.
[8:00] Speaker 1: It was Western Michigan, right yeah, Ollie Connolly as Scott
[8:03] Speaker 1: So I see he's gotten in. I'm not trying to,
[8:06] Speaker 1: you know, call him out source people. Outsource people. Uh.
[8:09] Speaker 2: Derwin James.
[8:10] Speaker 1: I just like the fact that he could be retiring
[8:12] Speaker 1: as a Charger. There's only so many like LA Chargers
[8:16] Speaker 1: that are that you think of as like, I know,
[8:19] Speaker 1: he's been with the team a long time. To me,
[8:21] Speaker 1: obviously you think of Herbert, but Durwin James is kind
[8:23] Speaker 1: of the definitive LA Charger.
[8:25] Speaker 4: Very cool.
[8:26] Speaker 1: Nico Collins trying to become one of the definitive Houston
[8:29] Speaker 1: Texans certainly becoming, you know, right there with the best
[8:34] Speaker 1: wide receivers in their history behind Andrey Johnson.
[8:36] Speaker 2: Is Nico Collins already number two.
[8:39] Speaker 1: Off the top of my head, I believe that he
[8:40] Speaker 1: would be he gets a raise over the next two years.
[8:43] Speaker 1: He signed one of the most i would say team
[8:46] Speaker 1: friendly deals.
[8:47] Speaker 2: They were ahead of the game at the time.
[8:48] Speaker 1: People thought they gave Nico Collins too much money because
[8:52] Speaker 1: they signed him really early, but they knew what they
[8:53] Speaker 1: had and suddenly he's going into these next two years
[8:56] Speaker 1: at only about twenty one to twenty two million dollars
[8:58] Speaker 1: a year, which is very underpaid for his level of production.
[9:01] Speaker 1: And so what they do is they don't give him
[9:03] Speaker 1: an extension. They just give him a raise. I like that.
[9:07] Speaker 1: So he's still going to be a free agent in
[9:08] Speaker 1: a couple of years, but they give him seventeen million
[9:11] Speaker 1: dollars more over the next two years, spread out pretty
[9:15] Speaker 1: evenly in each year, so like an eight nine million
[9:18] Speaker 1: dollar raise in each of the next two seasons for
[9:21] Speaker 1: Nico Collins. What do you think about this trend of
[9:24] Speaker 1: just raises that that's it's kind of new. You just, hey,
[9:27] Speaker 1: you're so good, we're gonna give you a raise. We're
[9:29] Speaker 1: not even going to extend you because you probably don't
[9:30] Speaker 1: want that extension. You want to get to free agency.
[9:33] Speaker 1: But just you're so good. We have to reconize it.
[9:35] Speaker 3: And I feel like there's probably some teams that don't
[9:37] Speaker 3: like teams just going and using the available space to
[9:40] Speaker 3: provide raises to players because it's a solution to a problem.
[9:43] Speaker 3: That a lot of teams, just in terms of public perception,
[9:47] Speaker 3: pretend like it's not available to them, like, oh, well,
[9:50] Speaker 3: we got to you know, this this deal. He's on
[9:52] Speaker 3: this deal, and we can't we can't make alterations and
[9:55] Speaker 3: have a new deal. You can just give somebody a raise.
[9:57] Speaker 3: That would solve a lot of you know, talk about
[9:59] Speaker 3: people being discred Ronald and all of these other circumstances
[10:01] Speaker 3: and camp holdouts. You could just give somebody a raise,
[10:04] Speaker 3: bottoms off.
[10:05] Speaker 2: It's so rare.
[10:06] Speaker 1: This is a pretty unique case, and I don't think
[10:09] Speaker 1: it's a total coincidence that there was some trade whispers
[10:15] Speaker 1: going into the draft, and it was more teams. To
[10:18] Speaker 1: be clear, it was reported interested in Nico Collins, but
[10:22] Speaker 1: I had actually separately heard some whispers of that teams
[10:28] Speaker 1: thought maybe there was a situation where he could be
[10:31] Speaker 1: shaken loose, and according to Nicosia, the GM that was
[10:35] Speaker 1: Poppy Coot was wishful thinking well because he said, we're
[10:38] Speaker 1: not trading Nico Collins. But at least the teams for
[10:42] Speaker 1: whatever reason, thought hey, if we gave a godfather offering
[10:45] Speaker 1: a new contract, maybe we'd get Nico Collins. Houston, by
[10:48] Speaker 1: all accounts, just shut that down. Smart, smart move by them.
[10:51] Speaker 1: I don't know why this all popped up, but if
[10:53] Speaker 1: it resulted in him getting a little money out.
[10:54] Speaker 3: I wish dickas Area would tell us which team would
[10:56] Speaker 3: would be most incentivized to participate in the poppycock.
[11:01] Speaker 1: Well that's interesting. What do you well, maybe they really
[11:04] Speaker 1: wanted Nick. Oh you're saying like another team that doesn't
[11:06] Speaker 1: like the Texans is trying to like raise me.
[11:08] Speaker 4: No, it's a team that wanted Nico Collins.
[11:10] Speaker 2: Oh yeah, I mean if I was the Patriots, I
[11:11] Speaker 2: would have wanted him.
[11:12] Speaker 4: How about that one?
[11:13] Speaker 3: And so you go and say, hey, I think, yeah
[11:16] Speaker 3: that maybe we can make Nico Collins available by facilitating
[11:20] Speaker 3: this discussion that I'm having with you right now.
[11:22] Speaker 1: Right And I don't know how this particular sausage gets made,
[11:26] Speaker 1: but that's just a little window into sometimes how the
[11:28] Speaker 1: sausage gets made. But yeah, he'll still be a contract
[11:32] Speaker 1: in terms of his free agency year, will still pop
[11:36] Speaker 1: up in what twenty eight, a couple of years from now,
[11:39] Speaker 1: He'll still be young. Mac Jones also got a three
[11:41] Speaker 1: hundred thousand dollar race, not a not a big one,
[11:44] Speaker 1: but they did decide to just give Mac Jones. I mean,
[11:47] Speaker 1: three hundred thousand dollars is still a lot of money
[11:49] Speaker 1: in my mind.
[11:50] Speaker 2: Mac Jones, Baby.
[11:52] Speaker 4: Mac Jones also featured in one of mine would you
[11:54] Speaker 4: rathers for? Great? Oh?
[11:55] Speaker 2: Okay?
[11:56] Speaker 1: He also got two point five million dollars added in
[11:59] Speaker 1: incentives if he happens to wind up starting and playing
[12:02] Speaker 1: well like he did a year ago. So he is
[12:05] Speaker 1: not getting traded and he will be a free agent
[12:07] Speaker 1: after this season. Speaking of how the game is played
[12:11] Speaker 1: in terms of trade, Jordan Schultz reported that there has
[12:17] Speaker 1: been interest in a Josh Sweat trade other teams wanting
[12:22] Speaker 1: to pry Josh Sweat loose. We ranked him quite high
[12:27] Speaker 1: on our edge defender rankings. A lot of controversy people
[12:32] Speaker 1: commenting on some of those rankings. Abdul Carter, we had
[12:35] Speaker 1: quite high people just upset that their favorite player is
[12:39] Speaker 1: not getting ranked high enough. I thought we properly rated
[12:42] Speaker 1: Josh Sweat here. And apparently there's a bunch of teams
[12:45] Speaker 1: that are kind of sniffing around Josh Sweat as a
[12:47] Speaker 1: potential edge to add. Maybe it would be during the season,
[12:51] Speaker 1: but maybe in training camp.
[12:52] Speaker 4: Yeah.
[12:52] Speaker 3: Eighteen game where the team defense really fell off towards
[12:56] Speaker 3: the end of the year, he was top ten in
[12:58] Speaker 3: time to pressure converted about twenty eight percent of his
[13:03] Speaker 3: pressures into sacks.
[13:04] Speaker 4: He was top five in that regard.
[13:06] Speaker 3: A solid season rushing the passer for Josh Sweat, even
[13:09] Speaker 3: if the defense was nowhere to be found towards the
[13:12] Speaker 3: end of the year.
[13:13] Speaker 1: Yeah, it was not his fault. He wound up getting
[13:16] Speaker 1: taken fifteenth. I would say the most common complaint, weirdly
[13:19] Speaker 1: was from Seahawks fans that were like, well, I guess
[13:22] Speaker 1: you guys ranked the offensive line below average and we
[13:25] Speaker 1: got no defensive linemen are great edges on the team,
[13:28] Speaker 1: and yet we were supposed to be like one of
[13:30] Speaker 1: the best teams up front. First of all, they didn't
[13:33] Speaker 1: really read it. They were noticed that DeMarcus Lawrence was
[13:37] Speaker 1: there at twenty seven. Get he counts. Second boy Mafe
[13:41] Speaker 1: made the list. He was on the team last year.
[13:43] Speaker 1: He's just no longer on the team. He had two sacks.
[13:46] Speaker 1: I mean, for what it's worth, we put two guys
[13:49] Speaker 1: at edge on the list out of thirty two who
[13:51] Speaker 1: combined for eight sacks. Now, I think their value is
[13:55] Speaker 1: why we put them there and valued them. But I
[13:57] Speaker 1: think that was being fair to those two gentlemen, and
[14:00] Speaker 1: sometimes it's more about the team than it is about
[14:02] Speaker 1: the individual players.
[14:03] Speaker 2: Seahawks just enjoy winning this.
[14:05] Speaker 4: I think most of them are happy. Couple is you know?
[14:09] Speaker 4: There were three do a bit itchy here?
[14:11] Speaker 1: Yeah, there were like three different ones. There were three
[14:15] Speaker 1: blaming this on like three. I'll take ads, okay. Some
[14:19] Speaker 1: injuries at the running back position. We've had an audible
[14:23] Speaker 1: this week in terms of our weekly ranking series, the
[14:27] Speaker 1: NFL Daily thirty two, where we rank the best across
[14:30] Speaker 1: the NFL in a variety of positions or even head
[14:34] Speaker 1: coaching gms. We're now doing running backs this week, and
[14:37] Speaker 1: so we're going to be talking about Devon a Chan.
[14:40] Speaker 1: We might be talking about Bucky Irving. Does he make
[14:42] Speaker 1: the top thirty two. Some updates on their injuries. Devon
[14:46] Speaker 1: ah Chan is officially coming off a shoulder surgery. Didn't
[14:49] Speaker 1: know that for sure before, and he's not one hundred
[14:52] Speaker 1: percent back that Dolphins anticipate he'll be ready for training camp.
[14:56] Speaker 1: He is doing some activity at OTAs, but not fully
[14:59] Speaker 1: so that that's interesting. Most interesting there is, though, that
[15:02] Speaker 1: they gave him his contract extension knowing everything about his surgery,
[15:06] Speaker 1: and so they're obviously not concerned, so I won't be either.
[15:09] Speaker 1: Bucky Irving maybe a little more concern after listening to
[15:13] Speaker 1: Todd Bowles's comments this week.
[15:15] Speaker 4: But he's come along fine, he's working out, he's rough.
[15:19] Speaker 3: We expect him sometime back in the summer to fall,
[15:21] Speaker 3: and you know, we'll look forward to him when he
[15:23] Speaker 3: gets back.
[15:24] Speaker 1: Our friend Josh Norris noted this is like an annual
[15:27] Speaker 1: occurrence where Todd Bowles just says something very loose at
[15:30] Speaker 1: the podium that makes fantasy football experts like yourself say like, wait.
[15:35] Speaker 2: What fall Bucky Irving? Are you concerned?
[15:39] Speaker 4: Uh? Yeah, I'm generally concerned. He plays football.
[15:42] Speaker 3: I think maybe that was a little more hesitation in
[15:46] Speaker 3: Todd Bowles's mind. You know, he's focused on football and
[15:49] Speaker 3: maybe not like equinoxes in such things, and he's realizing that,
[15:53] Speaker 3: you know, August September.
[15:55] Speaker 1: Sure is like, but that would kind of indicate if
[15:58] Speaker 1: you're staying into the that's like a serious injury that
[16:03] Speaker 1: he We knew he was coming off an injury, but
[16:06] Speaker 1: we didn't know it was, you know, potentially that serious.
[16:08] Speaker 1: The fall does technically start, you're right, September twenty first,
[16:13] Speaker 1: twenty second.
[16:15] Speaker 3: So i would say, you know, I'm not selling all
[16:19] Speaker 3: my Bucky Irving shares.
[16:20] Speaker 4: I think he's that good of a football player.
[16:22] Speaker 3: I'm trying to win in weeks ten, eleven, twelve, thirteen,
[16:25] Speaker 3: fourth or fifteen, and so I'm willing to deal with
[16:28] Speaker 3: some light action in the first few weeks of the season.
[16:31] Speaker 3: Maybe get a couple Sean Tucker games in there. I'm
[16:33] Speaker 3: completely fine with that. I'm not dropping his ADP that much.
[16:35] Speaker 1: Yeah, it's a it's a shoulder injury for Bucky Irving
[16:39] Speaker 1: as well, so he's coming off a shoulder surgery as well.
[16:43] Speaker 1: Ken Kenny G's there. Kenny G's there to soak up
[16:46] Speaker 1: Some wouldn't be surprised if he leads the Bucks in touches.
[16:52] Speaker 1: In fact, I ate the Bucks running backs. I would
[16:55] Speaker 1: pick him. Knowing Bucky Irving's injury especially puts it over
[16:59] Speaker 1: the top. If you're just saying who gets the most
[17:01] Speaker 1: touches in that backfield, I would guess it's Kenny Gamo.
[17:04] Speaker 2: Good player.
[17:05] Speaker 3: I mean it's he'll live where Kenny g lives. It's
[17:09] Speaker 3: going to be some fourth quarter Baker scrambles and dump
[17:12] Speaker 3: offs where you'll look up and ah, Kenny g has
[17:14] Speaker 3: seventeen Fantasy points again.
[17:18] Speaker 4: Double war.
[17:19] Speaker 1: Yeah, that might be what happens after Shan Tucker gets
[17:21] Speaker 1: the Scaries of the Goland like you did last year.
[17:24] Speaker 1: Lamar Jackson has returned to OTA's If you're on Lamar Jackson, Oh,
[17:27] Speaker 1: he's trying OTA watch. He's also going to be talking
[17:30] Speaker 1: as we're doing this show, so we'll see if he
[17:31] Speaker 1: says anything interesting. And I've got a trade for you.
[17:38] Speaker 1: Maybe the lowest octane trade of the offseason. No offense
[17:41] Speaker 1: to IRV Charles, but wasn't as familiar with the special
[17:45] Speaker 1: teamers work was very good on special teams for the
[17:48] Speaker 1: twenty twenty four Jets. Tore his ACL that hasn't been
[17:51] Speaker 1: as much in the mix. Traded to the Seahawks for
[17:55] Speaker 1: a twenty twenty eight conditional seventh round pick. You can
[17:59] Speaker 1: trade the twenty twenty eight picks now that we are
[18:02] Speaker 1: past the twenty six draft. That's according to Zach Rosenblatt
[18:07] Speaker 1: of The Athletic, an exclusive IRV Charles trade. While we're
[18:11] Speaker 1: talking Seahawks, I did find it fascinating that Mike McDonald
[18:19] Speaker 1: has a new slogan that he wanted to break out.
[18:21] Speaker 1: He wanted to test it being asked about how it
[18:25] Speaker 1: is to coach a team defending a Super Bowl title.
[18:29] Speaker 1: Every coach kind of has to make a decision. They're like, no,
[18:31] Speaker 1: we're not defending it. The season starts over. No, we're
[18:34] Speaker 1: doing this. They get really hung up about the idea
[18:37] Speaker 1: of defending the Super Bowl. Here is Mike McDonald being
[18:41] Speaker 1: asked about running back.
[18:43] Speaker 5: We're using the term we want to run it forward,
[18:46] Speaker 5: it meaning our process and who we are. And I
[18:51] Speaker 5: think I think this is going to be a conversation that,
[18:53] Speaker 5: you know, something that we're going to talk about consistently.
[18:55] Speaker 5: I don't think it's a one and done type of conversation.
[18:59] Speaker 2: Really, it's just.
[19:02] Speaker 5: How we talk about how we operate all the time,
[19:04] Speaker 5: you know. It's something that we We're having conversations with
[19:07] Speaker 5: our team and our units every day about who we
[19:09] Speaker 5: want to be and how we want to do things.
[19:10] Speaker 5: And this situation is no different. So it's really nothing
[19:14] Speaker 5: more than or less than that.
[19:16] Speaker 3: The exact same confidences when he came in there and
[19:19] Speaker 3: he took all the old slogans and standards off the wall,
[19:22] Speaker 3: and people had a lot of things to say about
[19:24] Speaker 3: it at the time. He hasn't changed and it's not
[19:27] Speaker 3: lip service. I think we are oriented towards the process.
[19:31] Speaker 4: M h.
[19:32] Speaker 3: And yeah, they would like to win another Super Bowl, right,
[19:35] Speaker 3: that's why everybody's playing. And he doesn't care, like when
[19:39] Speaker 3: he said I don't care and his eyes sparkled up
[19:41] Speaker 3: and everybody went crazy. Bike Mac does not care at all.
[19:44] Speaker 2: He does not.
[19:47] Speaker 1: What do you think just as someone who is a
[19:50] Speaker 1: lover of words speaks words about just the slogan run
[19:54] Speaker 1: it forward. Now that's you don't want to run it backwards.
[19:59] Speaker 1: It is what the sport is built on. Running it forward. Yeah,
[20:05] Speaker 1: run it for, don't run it back.
[20:06] Speaker 4: Don't run it back.
[20:07] Speaker 1: Run it back you lose yardage. Run it forward, like,
[20:10] Speaker 1: let's get two or three yards.
[20:11] Speaker 3: And also that team doesn't exist anymore. Yeah, like big
[20:14] Speaker 3: time contributors aren't there anymore. And so look the rearview mirror.
[20:17] Speaker 3: You know, whatever slogan you would like to apply, uh,
[20:20] Speaker 3: you know, Mike MiG again, it won't matter.
[20:23] Speaker 4: But now they've got herv Charles.
[20:25] Speaker 1: Now, well what about what Ken Walker, who's not there anymore,
[20:28] Speaker 1: used to do, which is I would find a lot
[20:30] Speaker 1: of times he would run it back.
[20:31] Speaker 2: He would run to run it forward.
[20:34] Speaker 4: Sometimes sometimes you got to make three lefts.
[20:37] Speaker 2: Let's take a quick break.
[20:38] Speaker 1: We're going to have some fun playing a game we
[20:40] Speaker 1: like to call would you Rather. We're going to decide
[20:43] Speaker 1: the most important issues either ors in the NFL today
[20:47] Speaker 1: after this.
[21:00] Speaker 3: Back on NFL Daily. The music very appropriate here. Before
[21:04] Speaker 3: we get to would you Rather? I did want to
[21:06] Speaker 3: update you guys on something before Greg demeaned and diminish
[21:09] Speaker 3: the trade for IRV Charles. IRV Charles his freshman year
[21:13] Speaker 3: at Penn State average fifty three yards per reception.
[21:17] Speaker 4: Whoa, now that was two catches.
[21:20] Speaker 3: We gotta get we gotta get earth. Charles the Baltimore
[21:24] Speaker 3: sixty three twenty three, so.
[21:26] Speaker 1: That's one hundred and six yards. I want to find
[21:28] Speaker 1: out how that was broken down. Yeah, eighty five and
[21:31] Speaker 1: twenty one, that would be my guess.
[21:32] Speaker 2: Probably something like that. Charles the fourth.
[21:38] Speaker 1: PFF Adham as a Pro Bowl Special Teams level player
[21:43] Speaker 1: in twenty twenty four for that injury.
[21:45] Speaker 4: I'll block that guy.
[21:47] Speaker 2: It's would you Rather? Time?
[21:50] Speaker 1: Patrick and myself will post questions to each other and
[21:55] Speaker 1: we might take some questions that were created back there
[21:59] Speaker 1: by Chris Pavone and Eric Roberts that we both answer
[22:03] Speaker 1: very simple. Would you rather Eric killed.
[22:05] Speaker 4: It on this music?
[22:06] Speaker 1: Either?
[22:06] Speaker 3: Or it's like it's like a true crime documentary where
[22:08] Speaker 3: people profit off of somebody else's grizzly murder.
[22:13] Speaker 1: It's like, Yeah, I'm reading a great true crime book
[22:16] Speaker 1: right now, London Falling by Patrick rad and Keith This.
[22:19] Speaker 1: This would be an appropriate background sick for a lot
[22:22] Speaker 1: of what I'm learning.
[22:23] Speaker 2: Recommended.
[22:24] Speaker 1: All Right, all right, I'm gonna start with Let's start
[22:26] Speaker 1: with Patrick. We need him to carry this thing.
[22:28] Speaker 3: No, Wall, you don't. That's false, by the way, But okay,
[22:33] Speaker 3: let's do this. Greg Rosenthal, Okay, would you rather?
[22:39] Speaker 2: Yeah?
[22:40] Speaker 3: Drake May a successful career as the starting quarterback of
[22:43] Speaker 3: the New England Patriots, starts until the year twenty forty.
[22:47] Speaker 3: In the year twenty thirty seven, they win the Super Bowl,
[22:50] Speaker 3: shattering a lot of doubters.
[22:52] Speaker 2: Yes or that's it?
[22:55] Speaker 4: They battle out May's next deal. After some CJ.
[22:58] Speaker 3: Stroud esque down years leading to many departed and winning
[23:01] Speaker 3: two Super Bowls for the Detroit Lions in the twenty thirties,
[23:04] Speaker 3: the Patriots cobble together a pair with journeyman starting quarterbacks,
[23:08] Speaker 3: one in twenty thirty two and another in twenty forty. Oh,
[23:12] Speaker 3: that first journeyman quarterback is none other than Jacksonville, Florida's
[23:16] Speaker 3: I'm acorkel jonp.
[23:17] Speaker 2: My god, that was a journey.
[23:21] Speaker 1: Just thought I was taking the first one, to thought
[23:22] Speaker 1: I'm then taking the second one. Is the amount of
[23:25] Speaker 1: Super Bowls that your team wins ultimately more important than
[23:30] Speaker 1: who is one.
[23:32] Speaker 3: You get one with Matt Jones Drakeman famously, the only
[23:35] Speaker 3: thing that matters gets to be your quarterback until twenty
[23:38] Speaker 3: forty or he's discarded in search of one.
[23:42] Speaker 1: Well, I'm a big fan of mccorkyl and as a man,
[23:45] Speaker 1: as an NFL daily guest, and as a quarterback. And
[23:48] Speaker 1: yet I like the journey, and you're telling me he's
[23:54] Speaker 1: going to get that super Bowl eventually. I like the
[23:57] Speaker 1: relationships that we form Parasoa with the players we root for,
[24:02] Speaker 1: and so I want the long may. And now this
[24:05] Speaker 1: might be you know as our as our friend Dan
[24:08] Speaker 1: Hansis would have said that me talking about the Throne
[24:11] Speaker 1: of V's, you know that I've seen the Patriots win
[24:15] Speaker 1: a lot of super Bowls. So the whole like two
[24:17] Speaker 1: versus one. I'm getting two with Mac and one with
[24:19] Speaker 1: versus me feels like a little less of a big deal. Yeah,
[24:23] Speaker 1: I want me. I just want to watch him play football.
[24:25] Speaker 1: I'm going to watch him play fooball no matter who
[24:27] Speaker 1: he's on. I mean, he does get two with the
[24:28] Speaker 1: Lions and this stuff. Yeah you shoot, wait a second,
[24:33] Speaker 1: I didn't really think about the Lions angle of it.
[24:35] Speaker 1: That was specifically the Lions.
[24:37] Speaker 4: That's why I made it very convoluted.
[24:41] Speaker 1: I might I might be switch switching because what this
[24:44] Speaker 1: does is guarantee the Lions two super Bowls. Specifically, the
[24:47] Speaker 1: Lions get two super Bowls.
[24:48] Speaker 3: Drake May gets two super Bowls and the Patriots get one.
[24:51] Speaker 4: But well they get two.
[24:54] Speaker 2: Yeah you don't they get two with they.
[24:56] Speaker 3: Get two super Bowls, but you don't get a Drake
[24:59] Speaker 3: May super Bowl with with the Patriots.
[25:00] Speaker 1: Okay, I'm switching it just because I'm such a good
[25:03] Speaker 1: guy and out of the goodness of my heart, I
[25:05] Speaker 1: think Kevin Patrick and all the Lions.
[25:07] Speaker 2: Fans deserve that. I'm still getting what I want.
[25:10] Speaker 4: For the most part, I've made it too sweet.
[25:12] Speaker 1: Since I have a similar ish question. Okay, this is
[25:16] Speaker 1: just more testing how aligned you are with the Ravens.
[25:21] Speaker 1: Would you either a Raven super Bowl win or a
[25:26] Speaker 1: youth league title. You know, pick a pick a kid
[25:29] Speaker 1: like this year. I'm talking about this year. Yeah, either kid,
[25:34] Speaker 1: I don't want to, I don't wanna name them necessarily,
[25:37] Speaker 1: but they each could be like, yeah, it could be
[25:38] Speaker 1: the basketball title. I don't know what sports they're playing, Soccer,
[25:42] Speaker 1: or I'll throw this one in another Lebron's Lebron James title.
[25:49] Speaker 1: And to be clear, this is not your youth league.
[25:52] Speaker 1: Now you are coaching though right now, right not actively this,
[25:56] Speaker 1: but you were coaching. Yeah, but I was coaching, okay,
[25:58] Speaker 1: and so would you rather like a Malcolm Youth League
[26:02] Speaker 1: title in that league or Ravens Super Bowl or Lebron.
[26:05] Speaker 2: I'll throw Lebron in.
[26:06] Speaker 3: There, honestly, because the team that won the title, they
[26:12] Speaker 3: beat us in the championship game this year. Some methods
[26:16] Speaker 3: I don't necessarily align with. Some attitudes I don't necessarily
[26:20] Speaker 3: align with. My team had fun. They they they loved
[26:25] Speaker 3: the game of basketball. They grew and learned together with
[26:28] Speaker 3: each other. And I would not trade that for a ring, Okay,
[26:32] Speaker 3: I would I'd trade it because again, a lot of
[26:37] Speaker 3: the affinity for the Baltimore Ravens is specifically based on.
[26:41] Speaker 2: This year I'm counting Lamar Lamar's yeah and.
[26:44] Speaker 4: Being right, which is a big thing for me.
[26:47] Speaker 3: Oh okay, so yeah, I would take the Baltimore Ravens.
[26:51] Speaker 1: I think that makes sense, honestly. Youth league titles, the
[26:55] Speaker 1: kids are fine, the kids are happy. Either way is
[26:57] Speaker 1: eight year old team right. When they get older, it
[27:01] Speaker 1: gets to be a little bit of a bigger deal.
[27:02] Speaker 1: But their kids, they're resilient. They win some, they lose them.
[27:06] Speaker 1: I was so much more crushed when the basketball team
[27:10] Speaker 1: I coached once lost soap badly in the championship that
[27:14] Speaker 1: they had to do the thing where you couldn't guard
[27:16] Speaker 1: them anymore outside of like inside of or outside of
[27:19] Speaker 1: fifteen feet. They just had to let them shoot because
[27:21] Speaker 1: we were losing like forty to nine, and I thought
[27:23] Speaker 1: they would be crushed.
[27:24] Speaker 2: They were fine.
[27:25] Speaker 4: They didn't care. You know. Yeah, youth league is like cared,
[27:28] Speaker 4: but not really.
[27:29] Speaker 3: Youth league is like those early relationships if it doesn't
[27:32] Speaker 3: work out. Yeah, that's a part of the learning process exactly.
[27:36] Speaker 3: You get the one that they really want, and you
[27:37] Speaker 3: focus on.
[27:38] Speaker 1: You probably get one eventually some in some sport. Anyways,
[27:41] Speaker 1: keep playing. I'll give you another question. Host or analysts.
[27:46] Speaker 1: Would you rather host the show or be in the
[27:49] Speaker 1: spot that I guess you're in here NFL Daily.
[27:55] Speaker 4: Caveat.
[27:56] Speaker 3: Yeah, I enjoy being employed and able to support family
[28:00] Speaker 3: in Los Angeles, California.
[28:01] Speaker 4: Whatever it goes.
[28:02] Speaker 1: Both is the pay of the bills.
[28:05] Speaker 3: But but I I do enjoy getting to answer things
[28:11] Speaker 3: that's okay as opposed to asking them just okay, you know,
[28:15] Speaker 3: because I'm verbose.
[28:16] Speaker 2: I like to talk, not compared to the rest of
[28:21] Speaker 2: NFL Daily, but not.
[28:22] Speaker 4: On this show.
[28:23] Speaker 3: Like like when it when it comes to TV, there's
[28:26] Speaker 3: there's some times where it's like, oh, NFL Network insider
[28:29] Speaker 3: Ian Rappaport joining us now to tell us more about
[28:31] Speaker 3: this circumstance. Ian, we just found out about this, tell
[28:36] Speaker 3: us more. I know all the things that Ian's about
[28:39] Speaker 3: to set. Yeah, I could just say that, but there's
[28:41] Speaker 3: the like like here, let's do this presentation in a
[28:46] Speaker 3: format that pays the bills.
[28:48] Speaker 4: Uh, so we do it that.
[28:49] Speaker 1: You could also do that, but in this format I
[28:52] Speaker 1: want I want you to start, you know, hosting NFL
[28:54] Speaker 1: Daily when I'm not here, and then maybe you could
[28:56] Speaker 1: play in my style, which is a little more like
[28:59] Speaker 1: Jalen br Hunt and playing point guards like you like, Yeah,
[29:02] Speaker 1: I guess he's the point guard. But he's gonna get
[29:05] Speaker 1: his shots up.
[29:05] Speaker 4: Yeah, that's for sure. Do what great put on this
[29:09] Speaker 4: arf to do?
[29:09] Speaker 2: Absolutely what a comp I'm giving myself the edits.
[29:11] Speaker 4: The edits have been great on Brunson.
[29:13] Speaker 1: By the way, Uh, he really is incredible. They might
[29:17] Speaker 1: just do it all right, your next give me a.
[29:19] Speaker 3: Would you rather greg? Two unbeaten teams no common schedules.
[29:25] Speaker 3: One in the AFC, for example, the Cincinnati Bengals don't
[29:27] Speaker 3: play the Dallas Cowboys. The AFC and the NFC make
[29:31] Speaker 3: their respective championship games as an undefeated teams and both lose.
[29:39] Speaker 1: Okay, or two undefeated teams losing the championship game.
[29:43] Speaker 3: In the AFC and in the championship game, it's it's
[29:45] Speaker 3: very disappointing. We missed the game of the millennium. Or
[29:49] Speaker 3: Riley Leonard goes on what can only be described as
[29:52] Speaker 3: a insanity run. It's dimes two point zero at the
[29:55] Speaker 3: start of the season except full Balco labs. He has
[29:58] Speaker 3: four games over the course of the season with a
[30:00] Speaker 3: perfect passer rating, maybe threatening the league's first ever six
[30:04] Speaker 3: thousand yard passing season, but prior to the team's week
[30:07] Speaker 3: seventeen game in Cleveland, a one hundred year storm coming
[30:10] Speaker 3: off of Lake Erie renders football impossible, not just to see,
[30:14] Speaker 3: but to play. The game endto zero zero time in overtime,
[30:18] Speaker 3: and Leonard finishes with negative twenty six passing yards that
[30:21] Speaker 3: ultimately leave him to finish the season and fifty passing
[30:25] Speaker 3: yards twenty seven short of Peyton manner ah single season record.
[30:29] Speaker 3: Would you rather have an all time team matchup ruin
[30:32] Speaker 3: or an all time single season record be ruined by weather?
[30:35] Speaker 1: Briley Leonard, for sure. I mean, all of that is delightful.
[30:39] Speaker 1: And I don't know the young man, but that story
[30:43] Speaker 1: is so good all the way through that.
[30:47] Speaker 2: He'll live.
[30:48] Speaker 1: He'll be remembered more for not getting that record and
[30:52] Speaker 1: having it taken away by the one hundred year storm
[30:55] Speaker 1: and that game. As a viewer, I know you say
[30:57] Speaker 1: like you're not big being a weather game. Miserable, Greg,
[31:00] Speaker 1: I think there is a moment where the weather gets
[31:03] Speaker 1: so bad that it's entertaining in something you remember, what
[31:09] Speaker 1: do you mean you you would be barely able to
[31:11] Speaker 1: see zero zero? Well, first of all, this is a
[31:13] Speaker 1: regular season game. He played so well in his insanity run.
[31:17] Speaker 1: I assume he's going to the playoffs. Yeah, maybe he's
[31:19] Speaker 1: even one.
[31:20] Speaker 3: Of those he clipsing the Kurt Warner. Who is this
[31:23] Speaker 3: guy season?
[31:24] Speaker 2: What's a? What's a?
[31:25] Speaker 5: No?
[31:25] Speaker 1: One cares about the passing yard record that that is
[31:28] Speaker 1: helping to inform it plus it, you know, seventeen games
[31:30] Speaker 1: or sixteen, I don't know if that's a factor here.
[31:34] Speaker 1: He's gonna be remembered for that anyways, and the rest
[31:37] Speaker 1: of it is great, Although the one knit I would
[31:40] Speaker 1: have to pick is you said it's like dimes two
[31:42] Speaker 1: point zero. But on Balco Labs mode, I don't know
[31:46] Speaker 1: if you saw the enhanced games or heard about them
[31:49] Speaker 1: over the weekend the the Olympics where they got to
[31:52] Speaker 1: use it didn't help to enhance Balco.
[31:55] Speaker 2: Maybe just not that big of a deal.
[31:57] Speaker 3: Yeah, I don't necessarily put Peter Thiel's assemblage of horrors
[32:03] Speaker 3: on par with San Francis.
[32:05] Speaker 2: I did not know he was involved with that, Yeah,
[32:07] Speaker 2: did not. Yeah.
[32:10] Speaker 1: Honestly, the two unbeaten teams in the AFC NFC losing
[32:15] Speaker 1: in the championship games I think would be great. I'm
[32:18] Speaker 1: not saying that's what I would be going into the
[32:20] Speaker 1: weekend rooting for. But maybe I'm a contrarian enough and
[32:25] Speaker 1: just like hey sports, it's unpredictable. That would be maybe
[32:29] Speaker 1: as epic a championship game weekend as we've ever had.
[32:32] Speaker 1: You come into it thinking we're gonna get this matchup. Instead,
[32:34] Speaker 1: they both go down and it'd be a great day.
[32:37] Speaker 1: It'd be a great day. Wow, great day of football.
[32:41] Speaker 1: That's all I'm looking for at this point, I'm going
[32:43] Speaker 1: to give you a simple one. I should have gotten
[32:48] Speaker 1: more complicated like you did. You can take either Travis
[32:55] Speaker 1: Hunter moving forward, considering age, contract, everything, he's on your team, or.
[33:03] Speaker 2: You can take Cooper Degene moving forward.
[33:08] Speaker 1: Now, obviously Cooper de Gene you've seen two years out
[33:11] Speaker 1: of him. Yeah, so you feel even better, I would
[33:14] Speaker 1: think than you did as a rookie when he was great.
[33:16] Speaker 2: Which player would you rather have moving forward? Cooper Degene
[33:18] Speaker 2: or Travis Hunter.
[33:19] Speaker 4: I would rather have the cornerback.
[33:21] Speaker 3: And I'm not even I don't even consider the possibility
[33:25] Speaker 3: of taking Travis Hunter as anything else. Purely playing out
[33:31] Speaker 3: wide at cornerback, I think he can be all.
[33:35] Speaker 2: Pro Oh I thought you. I thought you were going
[33:37] Speaker 2: to Cooper Degene. There he played a lot of cornerbacks.
[33:39] Speaker 3: He did play a lot of corner and again go
[33:41] Speaker 3: back to the pre Cooper Degene is not a safety.
[33:43] Speaker 3: I'm not saying yeah, just saying cornerback Travis Hunter, Okay,
[33:49] Speaker 3: just playing, just playing cornerback, like not trying to have
[33:52] Speaker 3: him go in there and burn himself to death doing
[33:55] Speaker 3: all this safe off to play to play wide receiver,
[33:57] Speaker 3: purely playing.
[33:58] Speaker 1: In this In this scenario, you do have control of
[34:02] Speaker 1: how he's going to be used. So that's that's an
[34:04] Speaker 1: important case.
[34:06] Speaker 4: Think.
[34:06] Speaker 2: I think I agree with you.
[34:09] Speaker 1: I'm leaving open the possibility to use him a little
[34:12] Speaker 1: bit at receiver here and there, kind of like Dion's style,
[34:14] Speaker 1: or it's just like for fun, yeah eventually, because I
[34:18] Speaker 1: mean Dion was pretty useful. He made some big plays
[34:21] Speaker 1: as a receiver, but ultimately he was like a fourth,
[34:24] Speaker 1: fourth receiver.
[34:26] Speaker 2: It's it's a.
[34:26] Speaker 1: Tough one though, in general, in the NFL, it's such
[34:29] Speaker 1: a brutal sport, so hard to predict. In general, I
[34:34] Speaker 1: will take the bird in the hand, and Cooper de
[34:38] Speaker 1: Jean's bird in the hand is very possibly like a
[34:44] Speaker 1: multi time All Pro player, And that's tough. It's tough
[34:47] Speaker 1: when I feel like, man, I've seen enough to feel
[34:50] Speaker 1: like he actually has a chance.
[34:53] Speaker 2: It's way too early.
[34:54] Speaker 1: He has a chance to be one of the best
[34:56] Speaker 1: players at his position in his era, and you know
[35:00] Speaker 1: where that leads.
[35:00] Speaker 2: And so that it's tough when Travis Hunter hasn't shown it.
[35:03] Speaker 1: And I was as high as Travis Hunder as anyone,
[35:05] Speaker 1: and yet I do think I want the mystery box
[35:07] Speaker 1: that is Travis under Yeah.
[35:08] Speaker 4: This is two very very good players right now.
[35:10] Speaker 1: So I thought it was a good I thought it
[35:12] Speaker 1: was a good one. Yeah, you want it to be
[35:14] Speaker 1: even But Bona had one that was, would you rather
[35:23] Speaker 1: have Matt Ryan win the twenty sixteen Super Bowl after
[35:30] Speaker 1: that season? Or Cam Newton win the twenty fifteen Super Bowl?
[35:34] Speaker 1: And I thought, Chris, why would I not want the
[35:39] Speaker 1: Patriots to complete the greatest comeback in the history of
[35:41] Speaker 1: Super Bowl?
[35:42] Speaker 2: You know, well, why would I not want that? You
[35:44] Speaker 2: know the answer?
[35:44] Speaker 1: Maybe that's more for me that's unfortunate, but he explained,
[35:49] Speaker 1: it's more which quarterback would you rather see kind of
[35:52] Speaker 1: have that ring for legacy purposes? That it's unfair that
[35:55] Speaker 1: the Super Bowl is kind of unfairly not happen for
[35:59] Speaker 1: those two or tarnished them.
[36:00] Speaker 3: Yeah, and I'm not even thinking about the quarterbacks in
[36:04] Speaker 3: that scenario. Julio Jones got four targets in that Super Bowl.
[36:07] Speaker 3: He caught them all, four of them, in my estimation,
[36:10] Speaker 3: the greatest catch, the best catch, the most difficult catch
[36:14] Speaker 3: in Super Bowl history, and it's just kind of lost
[36:16] Speaker 3: and he doesn't get that cherry on top of his
[36:19] Speaker 3: career where.
[36:22] Speaker 4: They should have won that game.
[36:24] Speaker 2: So you're going to choose Falcons.
[36:25] Speaker 4: Yeah, they did.
[36:27] Speaker 3: You know, Julio chose literally everything he could possibly do
[36:31] Speaker 3: in this you know, team game and it just all
[36:33] Speaker 3: fell apart.
[36:35] Speaker 1: Well, that shows it was an underrated question because I'm surprised.
[36:38] Speaker 1: I thought, just as a big Cam Newton fan, Uh,
[36:40] Speaker 1: it would have been really incredible. I mean to imagine
[36:44] Speaker 1: him as such a unique athlete in our sports history
[36:49] Speaker 1: in that he had one of the most memorable college
[36:51] Speaker 1: seasons in dominant and one of the most memorable and
[36:54] Speaker 1: dominant professional seasons. And even if you know, he didn't
[36:58] Speaker 1: have the longevity and the amount of big seasons as
[37:00] Speaker 1: other quarterbacks had, that would have been cool for him
[37:03] Speaker 1: to beat that no fly zone Broncos.
[37:05] Speaker 3: Yeah, I wish, you know, they had a little bit
[37:09] Speaker 3: more on offense on that Panthers team, including up front.
[37:13] Speaker 1: Okay, I would at this point like to get Chris
[37:16] Speaker 1: on the mic to defend because I kind of went
[37:19] Speaker 1: after him a little bit on text, and I feel
[37:22] Speaker 1: bad about it.
[37:23] Speaker 4: Chris my pleasure.
[37:24] Speaker 6: No, I feel like, especially with Cam Newton, you think
[37:27] Speaker 6: about how that dragged him, and he was dragged weided
[37:31] Speaker 6: on his legacy in the media cycle post Super Bowl.
[37:34] Speaker 6: For him to win that game, what would it mean
[37:36] Speaker 6: for like his psyche And I know that he had
[37:38] Speaker 6: the shoulder injury too, but like, where does Cam Newton's
[37:41] Speaker 6: career go? And then I think with Matt Ryan, you're
[37:43] Speaker 6: more thinking if he gets a ring. It's more of
[37:46] Speaker 6: like when does he become a Hall of Famer. I
[37:48] Speaker 6: think that happens expeditiously if he wins that sixteen Super Bowl.
[37:53] Speaker 1: I think Matt Ryan is properly respected and rated. I
[37:56] Speaker 1: think people think of him as one of the best
[37:58] Speaker 1: quarterbacks of his era, but certainly not like in the
[38:00] Speaker 1: top three or four. And then he did get to
[38:02] Speaker 1: have that MVP season similar to Cam Newton, where they
[38:04] Speaker 1: had that one season that popped up and people kind
[38:07] Speaker 1: of forget Cam Newton you know, still had a couple
[38:11] Speaker 1: of really good seasons, a great season a couple of
[38:13] Speaker 1: years later after that happened.
[38:16] Speaker 2: But yeah, I think that would have been cool. I
[38:17] Speaker 2: would have gotten and also I don't want my Patriots
[38:20] Speaker 2: to lose that game, and also.
[38:21] Speaker 3: The fumble situation and everything the criticism of that. Those
[38:25] Speaker 3: people would have been on Cam regardless, okay, of what
[38:28] Speaker 3: happened in that game, regardless of how it played out
[38:31] Speaker 3: or however they lost, those same people were going to
[38:34] Speaker 3: be saying the same things regardless this season.
[38:36] Speaker 1: And this is exactly related to the running back rankings
[38:40] Speaker 1: that we're going to be doing to wrap up the
[38:42] Speaker 1: week here. I think it's going to go up on
[38:44] Speaker 1: Friday morning. I thought this was tough. Jeremiah Love, It's
[38:48] Speaker 1: just this season, Okay, this season. Fantasy wise, Nope, real
[38:52] Speaker 1: life wise, not really because in this case, Jeremiah Love
[38:56] Speaker 1: is not on the Cardinals. There, He's on your imaginary team,
[38:58] Speaker 1: which has a better scheme an offensive line hopefully, Oh
[39:02] Speaker 1: just on any old it's on a generic team. Okay,
[39:06] Speaker 1: this season twenty twenty six, Jeremi, I love James Cook
[39:10] Speaker 1: or Saquon Barkley.
[39:12] Speaker 3: Would you rather on my hypothetical football team.
[39:19] Speaker 1: Who's better right now? Who would you have faith in?
[39:23] Speaker 4: James Cook?
[39:24] Speaker 1: Ooh that was the least likely answer. I thought, that's
[39:27] Speaker 1: why you ask.
[39:31] Speaker 3: Running, receiving, you know, cohesion in the blocking, and I'm
[39:38] Speaker 3: I'm going James Cook. There is the total package Jeremiah
[39:41] Speaker 3: could get there. It's one of those things where like
[39:43] Speaker 3: I need this, I've seen it, I've seen it from Jams. Yeah,
[39:46] Speaker 3: because I was at this point where there was a
[39:48] Speaker 3: question like, ah, this, you know, Dalvin versus James.
[39:52] Speaker 4: Where are we now That's not even a discussion anymore.
[39:55] Speaker 1: I'm struggling between those three when it comes to making
[39:57] Speaker 1: my ranking. So that's why I was kind of looking
[39:59] Speaker 1: for your help, Takuan. Just the second you doubt him,
[40:04] Speaker 1: I know it's a little boom or bust, but and
[40:06] Speaker 1: he didn't look at his best self.
[40:08] Speaker 2: Maybe pops back up. I'm leaning love, but kind of thinking.
[40:12] Speaker 1: That might be a little too little, too over My
[40:15] Speaker 1: skis all right, it's going to be televised at halftime
[40:21] Speaker 1: on Netflix Thanksgiving Day. It's gonna be a forty yard
[40:27] Speaker 1: dash between you Patrick.
[40:30] Speaker 2: Andreek Woolen.
[40:33] Speaker 1: Weird that they would think that that would be Oh,
[40:35] Speaker 1: I don't something people would be interesting. But you versus
[40:37] Speaker 1: Reek Woolen. Now they fly your family down there. Uh huh,
[40:43] Speaker 1: they pay for your rooms. Okay, they don't necessarily get
[40:49] Speaker 1: you Thanksgiving, but they'll probably be some sort of staff
[40:53] Speaker 1: meal you can get or maybe some leftover of the
[40:55] Speaker 1: craft service a steak or whatever. But it kind of
[40:58] Speaker 1: disrupts your Thanksgiving and there's a chance you would be humiliated.
[41:04] Speaker 1: Or you have to hit one of three free throws
[41:10] Speaker 1: at halftime of an NBA Finals game. If you hit
[41:15] Speaker 1: one of those free throws, you get three a lot
[41:19] Speaker 1: of pressure on you.
[41:20] Speaker 2: Though three feces.
[41:23] Speaker 1: You get a raise, you double your salary, multi year
[41:29] Speaker 1: security in terms of what would happen if you hit
[41:33] Speaker 1: one of the free throws, But if you miss all three,
[41:38] Speaker 1: you get slimed Nickelodeon style. You get to pay reduction
[41:46] Speaker 1: by fifty percent, and you have to pay your families
[41:49] Speaker 1: way home. They also did come with you to the
[41:51] Speaker 1: Christmas halftime. You have to pay your famili's way home.
[41:55] Speaker 4: Yeah, I'm shooting the free throws. Oh you are, Yeah.
[41:58] Speaker 1: Fifty a lot though it's a lot of pressure. In
[42:03] Speaker 1: the other case, you're not losing any money.
[42:04] Speaker 2: No matter what.
[42:05] Speaker 4: But I'm also running for free, okay, okay.
[42:10] Speaker 3: And like I got a call one time because there
[42:12] Speaker 3: was a discussion about the fastest on air talent. Yeah,
[42:15] Speaker 3: I was actually getting a root canal and Jenkowsky calls
[42:18] Speaker 3: and was like, yeah, are you the fastest? And I'm
[42:20] Speaker 3: like yeah, it's like, would you like I'm not running
[42:23] Speaker 3: for free? Oh I wouldn't. I wouldn't.
[42:26] Speaker 2: Are you fast though? I mean you just had surgery?
[42:30] Speaker 3: I mean, yeah, Greg, I would be willing to, okay,
[42:33] Speaker 3: to run and if somebody were willing to.
[42:34] Speaker 4: Compensate me for it, Well they're not. I'm not going
[42:37] Speaker 4: to do a hamstring for free.
[42:38] Speaker 2: They're paying you to go down there for Thanksgiving and stuff.
[42:41] Speaker 4: Yeah.
[42:41] Speaker 3: But if I mean even even involving the risk, and
[42:45] Speaker 3: I would love to be slimmed.
[42:46] Speaker 2: Okay.
[42:47] Speaker 4: You know, I don't know if the Paramount family is
[42:49] Speaker 4: interested in.
[42:50] Speaker 2: Partnering with What if I made it one free throw?
[42:53] Speaker 4: One?
[42:54] Speaker 2: Yeah, you got to make the free throw.
[42:55] Speaker 1: I got to make it, and you I thought the
[42:57] Speaker 1: fifty pay reduction was was going to be enough to
[43:00] Speaker 1: you know that's that's a significant yep.
[43:02] Speaker 4: But I also you know risk reward there.
[43:04] Speaker 2: Okay, got it.
[43:06] Speaker 3: I feel confident feet good one pressure bust poet, a
[43:09] Speaker 3: good one by me or whatever, go ahead. Hell one
[43:14] Speaker 3: injury in NFL history, et style, Andrew lugs shoulder or
[43:19] Speaker 3: the hip of one Vincent bo Jackson.
[43:26] Speaker 1: Bo Jackson, Now I wasn't there for it in the
[43:30] Speaker 1: same way, but I was a kid that I was
[43:34] Speaker 1: like nine years old when he had that run against
[43:36] Speaker 1: the Seahawks or so, I believe that was eighty eight.
[43:38] Speaker 1: That was old enough to kind of enjoy that. That
[43:41] Speaker 1: felt more devastating. I appreciate the struggles that Andrew Luck
[43:47] Speaker 1: went through, so it's a tough choice, but ultimately I
[43:50] Speaker 1: think he also helped to make that choice. You know,
[43:53] Speaker 1: his body was telling him the answer, whereas bo Jackson
[43:55] Speaker 1: almost was given no choice.
[43:57] Speaker 2: Yeah, that sucks.
[43:58] Speaker 3: There's nothing to say that even if Andrew Luck solder
[44:02] Speaker 3: wasn't bothering him, if he just makes the decision on
[44:05] Speaker 3: after that, he was going to be done with football,
[44:09] Speaker 3: bo had a lot left to give to sports in general.
[44:11] Speaker 4: Yeah, he still does, so I'm with you there.
[44:16] Speaker 2: An NFL Daily guest too.
[44:17] Speaker 1: Yeah, although I love I love Andrew Luck as well
[44:20] Speaker 1: because he wants as a player, had his own book club,
[44:24] Speaker 1: which you would just send tweets about.
[44:26] Speaker 4: I was like, that's.
[44:26] Speaker 1: Great, we get an eighteen game season, or we stay
[44:33] Speaker 1: at seventeen. But they permanently play five days a week,
[44:37] Speaker 1: So Saturdays Fridays are getting into the mix, and we've
[44:44] Speaker 1: got like a primetime game on extra days, but we
[44:48] Speaker 1: don't have the eighteen game season.
[44:50] Speaker 2: Which would you.
[44:51] Speaker 3: Rather as a as a fan, I'd rather have the
[44:56] Speaker 3: eighteen game season. Me personally, I feel like, you know,
[45:01] Speaker 3: sorry to keep bringing up job security. Yeah, I think
[45:04] Speaker 3: seventeen games games, five days a week, Yeah, provides an opportunity.
[45:08] Speaker 4: That's more people to be employed.
[45:09] Speaker 2: What about the health of the players?
[45:11] Speaker 1: You're not I mean, it's no surprized by Patrick not
[45:14] Speaker 1: considering that.
[45:15] Speaker 3: No, people, I am considering that. But you know, these
[45:19] Speaker 3: are troubling times, Greg Rosenthal. You know it's already it's
[45:23] Speaker 3: already not safe.
[45:23] Speaker 1: Also the five days a week in that case, like
[45:26] Speaker 1: you are playing on less rest more often, and you
[45:29] Speaker 1: you're presumably getting an extra bye week with the eighteenth game.
[45:32] Speaker 1: So although the extra game probably is worse, you know,
[45:36] Speaker 1: there's mitigating factors there.
[45:37] Speaker 3: Yeah, and probably some roster expansion too, you know, much
[45:41] Speaker 3: to the chagrin because you know, they feel like they'd
[45:44] Speaker 3: probably be and I know, mister Craft kind of let
[45:46] Speaker 3: it slip that they be willing to have the second
[45:49] Speaker 3: by there early.
[45:52] Speaker 4: But I think that, you know, look.
[45:55] Speaker 2: At you going your craft.
[45:57] Speaker 1: Yeah, breakfast burrito or Alpa store burrito. I'll accept other candidates,
[46:06] Speaker 1: but to me, those are the obvious candidates.
[46:10] Speaker 3: I will go al Pastor And the thing is, I
[46:13] Speaker 3: will go there twenty four hours a day. I think
[46:15] Speaker 3: the note that you can't have certain things for breakfast
[46:17] Speaker 3: is preposterous. If it's good at one point thirty in
[46:20] Speaker 3: the afternoon, it's good all day.
[46:23] Speaker 1: And the Mexican places I like give you that option.
[46:27] Speaker 1: You can get the Alpha store at ten thirty in
[46:28] Speaker 1: the morning at Taco's Port Football.
[46:30] Speaker 3: But Bona suggests pasta as some sort of non applier here.
[46:34] Speaker 1: It doesn't even make sense. But obviously both they're still inferior.
[46:39] Speaker 1: To have pasto whenever. Oh yeah, sure, I bet not
[46:44] Speaker 1: not over the alpastore burrito.
[46:47] Speaker 4: You know.
[46:47] Speaker 1: Finding the perfect Alpa store brito, and there is no
[46:50] Speaker 1: such thing where taco in La is one of the
[46:52] Speaker 1: joys of living here.
[46:53] Speaker 4: I will I will do a lot. I can to
[46:55] Speaker 4: find it.
[46:57] Speaker 3: All right, you would you rather regrect officials never miss
[47:00] Speaker 3: a defensive pass interference call, or officials never mint, never
[47:05] Speaker 3: miss an offensive holding call on the edge.
[47:07] Speaker 4: Specifically.
[47:10] Speaker 1: Whow never miss never miss. Well, I think it's clearly
[47:15] Speaker 1: PI holding I can live with. I mean, I'm not
[47:21] Speaker 1: you know, it would be great if at all calls
[47:23] Speaker 1: were perfect, that you can only pick one. I wonder
[47:26] Speaker 1: what it would do to this sport if they could call,
[47:29] Speaker 1: by the letter of the law, call every hole to hold.
[47:33] Speaker 2: That actually might be negative.
[47:34] Speaker 1: I mean it would change I think how tackles have
[47:37] Speaker 1: to play. It really might help out the edges quite
[47:40] Speaker 1: a bit in a way that we don't like.
[47:41] Speaker 4: Yeah, and that's the thing.
[47:43] Speaker 3: The letter of the law includes so much gray that
[47:45] Speaker 3: it would be impossible. They'd have to actually get the rules,
[47:50] Speaker 3: you know, in a certain way where that could apply.
[47:53] Speaker 3: But I'm just assuming in this hypothetical, like you're watching
[47:56] Speaker 3: the game and you never disagree with one of the calls.
[48:00] Speaker 1: I think we did it. I think that's it. We
[48:04] Speaker 1: decided what we would rather. But Bona had another one
[48:07] Speaker 1: that was your favorite team wins a super Bowl or
[48:10] Speaker 1: your rival never wins a super Bowl again. And to me,
[48:13] Speaker 1: the fact that even asked that question tells me something
[48:16] Speaker 1: about our friend.
[48:17] Speaker 4: Chris got a little hate in his heart.
[48:19] Speaker 2: I mean, who.
[48:19] Speaker 1: Would possibly choose the rival He hates the San Francisco
[48:25] Speaker 1: Giants that much that.
[48:27] Speaker 4: It's taking the ball and going home like tw winning stream.
[48:30] Speaker 1: Yeah, that is a Dodgers fan question if I ever
[48:32] Speaker 1: saw one. I mean, who would not want just their
[48:36] Speaker 1: team to win?
[48:36] Speaker 2: That's insane.
[48:38] Speaker 1: I know it says never, but still I don't have
[48:40] Speaker 1: that much hate in my heart. We got a lot
[48:41] Speaker 1: of love for Patrick and Eric Roberts and Chris who
[48:45] Speaker 1: helped put this show together.
[48:46] Speaker 4: Thanks buddy, Thank you.
[48:48] Speaker 1: Patrick will be back next week, but we're not done
[48:50] Speaker 1: this week. We are going to be back on Thursday
[48:52] Speaker 1: with a quick news update with Nick Schuok.
[48:56] Speaker 2: Let's hit that music.
[48:58] Speaker 1: As long as the fine people of Cleveland do not
[49:01] Speaker 1: call him to jury duty. So far, he's been like
[49:04] Speaker 1: on call all week and haven't called him, so don't
[49:06] Speaker 1: do it. We need him for Thursday on NFL Daily.
[49:09] Speaker 1: And yes, we'll have our running back ranks later in
[49:13] Speaker 1: the week.
[49:15] Speaker 2: I can't wait to see you then,
